De Que Te Quiero, Te Quiero #40- Fri 5/2

De que no confío en el, no confío en el

Irene, Vicente, and Lala all come running into Diana's room.  No one got shot, but they see the gun on the ground and Diana laughing maliciously.

Alonso and Alberto talk chicks.  Alberto doesn't know where things are going with Brigitte.  Alonso says there's no one for him and he'd rather be alone right now.  He gets the call from Irene that Diana shot at Diego, but he wasn't hit.  They just don't know what to do, so she asks him to come over.  Los dos Als hit the road.

Paolo fills out his job application, where for some reason it's asking for the names of both his parents.  He jokes with Abdul…"Should I say my dad is Eleazar Medina or Chato Reynoso?"  He puts down Fonda Los 6 Garcia as his work experience and Abdul as his previous boss since, as Abdul says, Carmen is the owner, but he's the General Manager.  Paolo gets worried when it asks about his criminal record, but Abdul tells him the thing with the truck doesn't count and if they need proof, they can ask Eleazar for a letter.

Diego is in the study, drinking, when the Als arrive.  He has no idea how she found the gun in Rodrigo's room.  He doesn't know if he should call the cops or try to have her locked up or what.  Alonso goes up to see her.

She's predictably not happy to see him, since this is the five minutes per day when it's not Natalia's fault that she's getting divorced--it's Alonso's.  Alonso asks her to calm down and says he just came up to see if he could offer her a sedative.  She throws pillows at him, so he leaves.

Back downstairs, in temporary Bro Central, Alonso says it was stupid of him to go up there in the first place.  Vicente and Irene come in.  Vicente says Diana can't keep pulling this crap and he wants to know what they can do to stop her.  Alberto says accusing her of attempted murder is all they can do, but they all know what would happen.  Diego says no way, that would put his child's life in danger, but really…can it be any worse than what she's already doing?  Vicente actually seems upset at the thought that Diana could have shot Diego.  How many generations back since there have been twins in this family?  Is this really Vicente or has he been replaced?

Irene takes Vicente in to meet with his doctor.  The doctor is impressed that Vicente has been following his treatment recommendations.  Vicente's getting a bad case of cabin fever, but the doctor won't give him the green light to go back to work yet.

Natalia and Brigitte are working on samples in Irene's office. Or rather, Natalia is working on the samples and Brigitte is whining about how they should be doing designer clothes.  She sneers at the picture of what Natalia's working on and says it's boring.  Diego asks to speak with Natalia, so Brigitte starts cutting out pattern pieces as she mutters that no one wears this stuff anymore.  And from the way Brigitte's cutting, there had better be a seam allowance included in the pattern or we're about to have drama.

Out in the hallway--the best place for private, delicate conversations--Diego tells Natalia that he needs to go home so he can meet the nurse that Alonso is hiring for Diana.  He tells her about what happened yesterday and Natalia asks him to please take care of himself.

While Irene is waiting for Vicente to go to the bathroom, she runs into Tad's maid.  Tad's maid is so loyal, she says Tad's fine and she's just there getting her diabetes checked on.

Alonso introduces Diego to Melina, the nurse.  She's gotten the details on Diana's condition and is prepared to sedate her if necessary.  Alonso confirms that the sedative won't harm the baby, but they shouldn't go overboard with it.  He lets Diego and Melina go upstairs without him and accepts Lala's offer of a cup of coffee.

Diego enters alone and gets the usual crap from Diana about how she won't calm down until Diego gives her her "place" as his wife.  The nurse comes in and Diana freaks, saying she doesn't want a jailer.  Melina asks Diego to leave them alone.  She starts chattering away to Diana about how there's nothing to worry about and they'll be BFFs in no time.  As she unpacks her case and starts laying out the vial of sedative and needles, she talks about how her last job was caring for a sweet woman with narcolepsy….  Diana eyes the needles speculatively.

Tad's doctor comes in to tell him he needs to stay in the hospital for a few days.  It'll be easier for him to stay there and let them keep giving him the drugs he needs via IV instead of going back and forth for all the testing.  Tad's maid comes in all flustered from running into Irene, but she says she kept up the lie for him.  Tad calls Irene and tells her he has to go to New York today.

Vicente heard Irene's side of the call and expresses his disapproval of her continuing to see Tad.  Irene says she's not a kid to be forbidden from anything.

Chato, in a red jacket, brings Carmen a big bouquet of red roses, behind which he's hiding his equally red face.  For some unknown reason, she draws clown eyebrows on him.  Then she gives him a written list of everything he has to do if he wants her to marry him.

Diana comes out of her room and asks Lala, who's busy mopping the floor, to please bring her something to eat, out on the patio.  Lala gets suspicious and, after Diana heads downstairs, she goes into her room to check on Melina.  Melina is, hopefully, knocked out on the floor.  Pro tip: if you're not going to turn the attempted murderer in to the cops, at least hire a bodyguard for her nurse.

Vicente and Irene go to Rodrigo's room.  Vicente wonders if he's really alive. Rodrigo, in Comaland, hears them talking about "killing" him.

Lala can't rouse Melina, but she's at least breathing.  She calls Diego, who calls Alonso.  Diego tells his new secretary he's on his way home.  Brigitte and Natalia see him leaving and when the new secretary says he went home, Brigitte smarms to Natalia that there must be some problem with his WIFE.

Vicente and Irene are still with Rodrigo when the nurse comes in to bathe him.  Vicente asks her if there's been any change, but she says there hasn't.  Vicente strokes Rodrigo's hand and Rodrigo's eyelids twitch.  Vicente sees it, but he doesn't say anything.

Carmen's list: Drop Lupita off at school and pick her up from school every day.  Help Lupita with her homework every day.  Help with all the household chores.  Read Lupita bedtime stories.  Hand over money for the weekly expenses.  Talk to Lupita.  Spend time with the other kids.  Do something so Lupita feels proud of him.  Spend an entire day doing whatever Lupita wants.

Chato feels Carmen is asking for too much, but she says that's the only way he'll get a "yes" out of her.  Chato asks for the keys to the house so he can start cleaning.

Diana sits out on the patio.  After Hilda brings her breakfast, she asks if Diana needs anything else.  Diana says everyone in this house is trying to make her life difficult and she needs an ally.  Hilda will be that ally.  Lala comes out to see how Diana is doing and Diana tells her to go away.  "We have to watch out with her.  She's the Cacares' spy.  I want you to listen to everything.  I know they're plotting against me and I have to be prepared.  I can't trust anyone.  They're all my enemies, but I'm going to crush them.  And I'll use this thing in my womb to do it."

Vicente waits until they're in the car to tell Irene about seeing movement.  He didn't want to tell the doctor because he thought the doctor would say it was a reflex.  "I think it was just my imagination, because I want him to wake up."  Vicente still has no idea what to do, but he thinks it might be better to "disconnect" him.  Better for Rodrigo and better for all of them.  He looks upset at this.

Diana has finished her breakfast and when Hilda points out she only had a few bites of fruit, she screeches at Hilda not to insist she eat like everyone else does .  Diana tells Hilda to call HR at Caprico and get Natalia's email address.  Hilda protests.  She has no idea what an email address is or why or how she'd be able to get HR to give it to her.  "Just do it!  Ask just like that.  He'll know what you're talking about.  And write down everything he says.  What are you waiting for!"  Hilda passes Lala on the way into the house and just says Diana's in a bad mood, as always.  Lala tries to ask if Diana would like something else for breakfast, but again, Diana just tells her to go away.

Lala lets Alonso in.  Diego isn't there yet.  She didn't call 911?!  Melina is still upstairs in Diana's room, knocked out.  Diana apparently injected the entire vial of sedative.  Diego comes in and asks what to do.  Alonso doesn't think it's necessary to take her to the hospital, just sit her up in bed and wait for the effects to wear off.

Chato shows Andres the list…and tells Andres that he and a couple of the other guys are going to be helping him with the housework.

Hilda calls HR at Caprico and tells him that she's calling from one of their clients and her boss is upset that she lost Natalia's email address.  He asks where she's calling from and Hilda quickly looks on the desk and says she's calling from Autos San Felipe.  There's some confusion when he says he'll give her the "correo" (mail) and she says she needs the "e-mail" and he says "right, that's what I'm giving you."  Hilda has trouble keeping up and has him repeat it.

Sure enough, Natalia says Brigitte cut the fabric "wrong," but Brigitte insists she gave it a more modern look and Irene will love it.  And she says this all while typing on her phone.

Chato and his minions arrive and Chato divides up the cleaning duties, giving himself the arduous task of supervising.

After a few minutes, Melina is feeling better.  Diego tells her to take the rest of the day off to rest and gives her cash for a taxi.  Alonso finally realizes this isn't going to be enough.  They need someone with some kind of authority over her and decide it might be a good idea to call her mother.

Andres breaks a pot that was in the bathroom. Luz hears it and comes over to see what's going on.  Chato tells the guys to hide and pretends he was in there cleaning.

Diego calls Diana's mom, Alina, but gets her voicemail.  He tries a different number and it's out of area.  Vicente and Irene come home and Vicente's already been updated by Lala.  He doesn't like Diego's idea of calling Alina…"The last thing we need is two crazy women in this house!"  He tells Diego if he would just pay attention to Diana she'd quit doing stupid stuff.

Luz is impressed with Chato and offers to help, but he says that wouldn't be fair.  Luz insists and goes back to her place to turn off the beans.  Chato hears Carmen out in the hallway and tells the guys to hide again.  Carmen says she's there to look for some papers that she gave Natalia to keep for her.  In the girls' room, the guys struggle to find somewhere to hide.  By the time Chato and Carmen go in there, they've shimmied out the window.  Carmen decides that he did such a good job of cleaning that he can consider this task done…complete with accompanying post-it note graphic with "Tarea 1" (task 1) and a check mark.  Carmen invites him to lunch at the fonda.

Vicente reminds Diego that Alina's always been a crappy mother.  "Don't you remember the time Diana broke her leg and WE had to take her to the hospital?"  He again tells Diego to just pay more attention to Diana and problem solved.  Diego goes to talk to her.  Vicente tells Irene that she should be supporting him and convincing Diego to give up "that girl" and focus on the woman who's going to bear his child.  "No.  I'm sorry dad, but I'm not going to support you. I don't agree with you."  Vicente goes off in a huff.

Diego goes into Diana's room where she's painting her nails.  She grins at him.  "Where's the nurse you hired for me?  How bad can it be?  The injection was for me, wasn't it?  Or did you want to kill me?  I knew she'd just sleep for a while.  And I'm not crazy. I only did it so you'd come home and pay attention to me.  You've abandoned me."  Diego tells her again that she's only there because of the baby.  Diana accuses him again of treating her like an "incubator."

Diego goes down to the study and calls Natalia to tell her what Diana did.  He's going to work from home so he can keep an eye on her.

Brigitte finishes working up her sample and asks if Natalia doesn't like it.  "No.  I liked the original design better."  "That's because you have no taste.  Irene's going to love it."  Alberto comes in and is asked for his opinion.  "It's pretty."  Well, Alberto you also like Brigitte, so I don't trust your opinion.  Brigitte smarms to him that Natalia doesn't like it.  "Let's go."  Natalia looks up, shocked and says there's another hour left in the workday.  "So?  Who's going to know?  It's not like the Cacares are going to be back today."  Alberto asks if she's sure they should leave and then follows her out like a devoted puppy.  Out in the hallway he asks what's up with Natalia.  "Oh, Diego called her to tell her he had to stay home and take care of his wife because she'd had another crisis."

Chato brought a whole stack of books so Lupita could pick out her bedtime story.  Lupita isn't having it!  Carmen guilts her into at least looking at the books, so Lupita dismisses them all and tells Chato to go shopping again and come back tomorrow with different ones.  Paolo and Abdul choke back laughter.  Lupita isn't happy to hear that Chato will be taking her to school tomorrow.  "What for?  Paolo can take me!  I don't want you."  Carmen tells Lupita they've got to talk.  Abdul asks Chato if he didn't happen to bring "El Jorobado de Nuestra Señora de Paris" (The Hunchback of Notre Dame)…"No one liked that guy either.  Just like you."

Lupita asks why she has to put up with Chato.  She doesn't want him trying to tell her stories or take her to school.  Carmen says Lupita needs to give him a chance, because he's sorry and wants to make up for lost time.  "Well, if he lost it, tell him to go look for it somewhere else."  Carmen begs Lupita to give him a chance and Lupita caves.  Or so we think. Personally, I'm betting Lupita is going to give him the same kind of "chance" Carmen is giving him and make his life a living hell.

Irene visits Diego in the study.  He's feeling a little overwhelmed and he doesn't think there's anything else to do but have Diana institutionalized somewhere where they'll make sure she doesn't endanger her pregnancy. He's been trying to work from home all afternoon, but he's missing some stuff from the office.  Irene offers to keep an eye on Diana while he goes to get it.

Natalia is still at the office.  She calls for a cab to be sent and Andres gets the job.

Irene gets on Diego's laptop and sees she has an email from Alonso.  He wrote to tell her that even though she's being hard on him, he can't help loving her and he thinks she feels something for him too.  He says he's gonna love her like nobody's loved her.  Irene cries and says he won't love her when he realizes she's just a woman, full of flaws.

Natalia exits the office and sees Andres.  He greets her just as Diego drives up and, of course, Diego gets upset.

Monday: Diego's jealousy is unattractive; Diana threatens Natalia.

Irene's up to 18 episodes sober and getting much better at standing up to Vicente without getting into shouting matches or reaching for the bottle.

If I were the nurse, I would NOT be going back to that house...ever!

What a frustrating episode, but a hilarious recap. I'm going to come back later and pick out some individual lines. I'm on my tablet right now and I'm slow.

I didn't find the eyebrow thing funny at all.

I wonder if we will get to meet Diana's mom.

Lovely summary Kat. Great humor, snark and stellar details.

"How many generations back since there have been twins in this family? Is this really Vicente or has he been replaced?", "Back downstairs, in temporary Bro Central" and "Out in the hallway--the best place for private, delicate conversations" were among my favorites.

I share in commending Irene for 18 epis of sobriety. However, Irene is so sharp and astute, I am having a difficult time believing she does not realize what is going on with Tad. But then, I suppose she simply isn't seeing what we are. Wanting something to happen doesn't make it so.

Brigitte is a piece of work. Pretending you know what you are doing when you don't is not the best approach. Especially when it comes to cutting patterns where the results are easily discernable. Whatever does Al see in her?

Chato's amusement has run its course for me. Now I want him to disappear so that El and Carmen can get together.

From the previews, I am not liking Diego's jealousy. Of all people he has no right let alone any reason to dictate anything to Nat!

And Diana's evilness is growing. I think she needs a nurse and a guard. At the least.

Thans Kat! This was great.

Good Morning Diva...Haven't seen this yet but sure appreciate how you get these snappy, interesting recaps up so quickly.

Loved "los dos Als hit the road" and "temporary Bro Central". The fellas are quite the working unit, aren't they?

Brigette, on the other hand, upsets me even just reading about her. She's worse, to me, than Diana, who is so over the top, I can detach emotionally. Unfortunately, Brigette's low- simmering envy and chronic contempt are something we see all too often in real life. Knowing that her biological father is French, makes her characterization a little more understandable though. In my 20's, I had to listen to a lot of Frenchmen tell me all that was wrong with the US!

Looking forward to watching Miss Lupita put Chato in his place. And like Diana, can't wait for another Eleazar/Carmen get- together. Please, writers, toss us a bone! We're dying of hunger here.

Thanks, Kat. You're amazing.

Ah, finally got to see this one. And although I love how sweet Carmen is with her kids, I have to admit scenes where a mom tells her child "not to feel whatever she's feeling" set my teeth on edge. Lupita's intuition is right on: Chato has no interest in being her dad; he just wants a chance to get in Carmen's knickers again. I would have rather Carmen be empathetic and say, o.k., we'll skip this part of the Chato test if you're uncomfortable with it. Sure, I want Lupita to be tactful and not "grosera"; but young children are usually on to who's authentic and who's not; and they need to be validated, not sweet-talked out of their resistance.

Of course, yeah, it's just a telenovela and this part is being played for laughs, and it is cute--especially with Chato looking like the Devil Incarnate. But...maybe I just needed a good rant on Saturday morning!

Everyone has already mentioned the great lines! I also like "Los dos Als hit the road" and "Bro Central".

JudyB- I wish Carmen would pay more heed to Lupita as well. I'm done with the Chato storyline.

I also continue to have issues with so many characters hitting the bottle whenever there is a crises. (Diego hit the hooch after being shot at....though I guess in the same situation I would need a drink, too.) It seems counterproductive to the Irene storyline about recovering from alcoholism.

These storylines seem to treat male drinking differently from female drinking. Women drinking...pathological. Men drinking...okay. Sometimes even cute. Haha.

Dim.

But perhaps a reflection of Latino perspective? Don't know.

On the other hand, I used to need a drink when I was around my mother-in-law for any length of time, so I can relate to the calming, sedative aspects of it!

Kat- Thanks so much for another great recap. I'll hopefully get a chance to watch it later, but got such a chuckle reading Lupita's comments to/about Chato. Yeah, Carmen needs to stop pushing him on Lupita. Glad no one got shot. But Diana's mom sounds like trouble. We might get some insight into why Diana is the way she is. From the sound of it, her parents abandoned Diana long ago, and the neighbors, Diego and his family, are the ones who became a surrogate family for her.

I don't know if I've ever seen a tn that hasn't shown people getting drunk on a regular basis to soothe their troubles, even when there is a story thread about someone with a drinking problem. And the galans especially always get drunk to deal with their heartbreak sorrows at some point. Sometimes, but less often, it's the heroine who gets her drunk on to try to forget her troubles: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOwUAAMKSWI

Not sure how the writers don't see the irony in treating heavy drinking so casually/as a joke, while at the same time writing about how drinking has destroyed a character's life.

5ft maravilloso

Guess what, I'm hitting the bottle at this momento.

Well, so much for who got shot, nadie. So glad, one more cliche struck down. ¡estupendo!

Gracias, Sara, Diana, JudyB, Vivi, and Variopinta

I am SO over Chato. If Carmen wants to make most of her list about gaining Lupita's approval, then she needs to respect that Lupita's not going to give it. I agree with Lupita--let him go find his "lost" time somewhere else.

That...thing...Brigitte made was hideous! Terrible color combination, weird lapels...no one who is old enough to choose their own outfits is going to wear that! I'm curious to see what the original design was.

How much longer can Diana really continue to be as active as she's been considering most of her diet lately has been a few bites of fruit and a lot of booze? At some point, if she doesn't start fueling her body properly, isn't she going to end up too weak to cause much trouble? I'm sure there are women who have problems with nausea during pregnancy and it affects their ability to eat, so I wonder what happens in those cases. Do they end up in the hospital on an IV?

Sometimes Diego does cope by convening a meeting of the Board of Als and trying to problem-solve, but a lot of the time lately, he's also been getting sunk in despair and reaching for alcohol. I don't like that there's any alcohol in the Cacares house. Granted, the times Irene drank, she didn't do it at the house, but if Diego wanted to be supportive, the booze should have gone the very first time she got drunk after seeing Tad. And if that seems harsh, that Diego should be denied the comfort of a glass of whisky after a hard day of dealing with Diana, then ok, keep the booze under lock and key. Not out on a cart in the home office that everyone in the household shares.

It occurs to me that I've seen a similar dress on The Brady Bunch.

Gaviota in Destilando Amor got drunk quite a few times and it was usually played for laughs.

Kate del Castillo as Veronica in La Mentira drank a whole lot. The writers even forgot that she was supposed to be pregnant when they had her guzzling tequila a few times.

Nothing can save this show.

There is nothing worth watching just the typical female villain and lame lead guy well she's annoying

Kat thanks for another great recap. Yes, it is fun seeing Irene's growth and her standing up to her father w/o drinking.

Also thanks for your thoughtful response the other day regarding mental illness. As you noted, it just seems irresponsible to float around actually medical illness terms as an excuse for Diana's manipulations.

While the writers have been quick to resolve things, Diana's most recent antics should get her committed. Since the family has money why can't this be done in a way that protects the child and keeps her from another attempt on her own life or some other sap assigned to her? As our Diana noted, that nurse should not come back.

ITA w/you all about Chato (time to go) and Carmen's forcing him on Lupita. I really like Kat's idea that Lupita will just put him through changes and I hope she does. I do wonder if Carmen were to sleep w/Chato, perhaps he would get over it/get his groove back and go away. Though in my mind, that's too high a price to pay.

Judy, you nailed why the Brat is so troubling. I think, we are being set up to see her blow up in some terrible way on Nat and it won't be pretty. Hopefully it will open Carmen's eyes though.

Sara, ITA about the drinking on the show. It seems very out of place.

Vivi, thanks for the link.

Thank you, Anonymous at 8:15 and Karen!

FeVier fan, exo binary k, sorry to hear you're not enjoying this one.
