De Que Te Quiero Te Quiero #70/71 5/28/14
Rod and the Brat make plans for the evening.
Nat explains Rod’s bad behavior to Irene and Alonso. He lost it over the fabric provider. Irene promises Nat she won’t have to interact with Diego so Nat goes back to her job AGAIN. I think it was Vivi who mentioned that we should keep of tally of how many times she quits Caprico and/or breaks up w/Diego. Irene hopes they will make up and Diego gets rid of his demons. Help me here friends, when did Diego have demons? I know, I know, I’m thinking too hard and my poor tn beanie may burst. Irene also says perhaps he will apologize and propose and Nat says if he did so, I’d be dubious. Ah but would you really Nat?
Paolo talks with his dad/boss while Alfredo, a male employee, listens in on them through the door. Don Gino wants Paolo to learn the administrative side of the bowling business in addition to the operations part. When Paolo asks why, Gino says because he’s a smart kid and gives him a laptop. Eavesdropping Alfredo leaves seething.
Nat comes home and tells Carmen about Rod being a jerk. Carmen says when they make up, don’t immediately fall back in his arms. Nat says that Irene said the same thing and Carmen gets jealous.
Irma calls Rod and asks why Diego has bruises on him. Revolting Rod laughs it off and said it was his personal knock-out drug. The Brat comes in and they are off. Irma doesn’t understand why Rod is being so cruel to his brother. And Brat lies to Carmen about why she has to stay late at the office (Nat’s tantrum created work for her). Oh Carmen too bad you don’t know that the Brat never really works at the office except as a sex worker. The Brat almost loses it when Carmen tells her Nat didn’t quit but she calms herself (somewhat) as she’s about to have Diego again. The lemon face returns when he is pleased she didn’t quit.
Paolo stays working late at work and has to miss the family dinner w/El. Gino suggests he drops Paolo off. In a scene that is implied that we didn’t see, Padre (and perhaps other family members) see Gino taking Paolo home. He assumes the worst and Paolo won’t answer any questions.
Trouble in Hades
Rod and the Brat are kissing in a hotel but her hatred of Nat has gotten the better of her. When she complains, Rod says stop or I’ll say her name and not yours. This makes the Brat even more crazy and she calls Rod stupid. He grabs her face and tells her not to call him that. It looks like he tries to get rough but suddenly has performance issues. He blames the Brat for ruining the mood. She tries to get him back in the mood and the real Rod kicks her out.
Nat longs for the real Diego, while the rest of us long for the end of The Great Misunderstanding. I have to give JDC credit as he has made each twin very distinct with facial expressions and actions. However, it makes it all the more frustrating that almost everyone notices the bad behavior but few seem to catch Rod’s leers and smirks.
At the office, Nat tries to find out what the Brat worked on in the computer. The perpetual liar claims she was going over figures w/Diego which I guess technically isn’t a lie. She also mentions she’s not doing Nat’s work as if she does her own. Rod waltzes in w/flowers and Nat tells him he is crazy if he thinks that will make up what he said to her. She leaves and Rod tells the Brat to put the flowers in water.
Tonto Abdul invites the Krab to look around the place and Angela tries to set him straight. Unfortunately his ego and perhaps little Abdul continue to think that the Krab is not his enemy.
Alonso drops Irene off at Caprico. She doesn’t want to kiss him goodbye but after some persuasion she give him a peck. Nat returns to the office and Rod accosts her. He tries to say nice things while man-handling her. She screams, Irene enters, and Rod tells her they roll rough and to butt out. In the bathroom, Nat remember the Rod the rapist face. Irene comes in the bathroom where Nat has fled and Nat says he attacked her again. This makes Irene pause and of course we go to commercial. By the time we come back, I’m sure all these horrible aspects of Rod’s personality will be airbrushed over yet again.
At the hospital, the head nurse is asking Irma why Diego has bruises on his face. They agree to cover his bruises with make-up. Though the head nurse doesn’t want to do this, she doesn’t want Grumps surprising them again and a subsequent scandal with employee firings.
Nat says Rod has let her down again, she again doesn’t talk about her attempted rape with one of the few people, who would realize that was Rod. Irene finds it strange because Diego was never violent. She goes to Rod’s office and tells him he needs to stop treating Nat badly. She also mentions the fabric provider incident and he again goes to he has more experience than the two women. Irene mentions how they have done everything together thus far. He further condescends that he has expertise in financial (or theft of it) and she is over the dress makers and designers. Irene returns to her office irate at his behavior (more of he’s never acted this way, has always respected me). She is particularly concerned about the money and says if he wants war, he’ll get it. I’m concerned because the Brat heard all of this and we know what she will do with that info. And if there ever was a time in this tn to start throwing around medical terms, why does no one state that “Diego” is bi-polar not simply stressed?
The Krab said she fired her Britney because things were missing. The investigator tells her she did wrong and that Britney could be connected to the theft. She then fires Britney.
Rod was on the phone with his scam artist buddy and finished just before the Brat saunters in to tell him what she learned. She gets mad when he doesn’t reward her and/or reveal his plan to her and shoos her away. Yawn.
Carmen gets upset at Abdul for being friendly with the Krab. He gets mad at her questioning his judgement (wow). El sends Carmen a red rose with a note that says I’m trying little by little. She texts him back to let him know he’s scored points with that one. Yeah El!!
Irene and Alonso discuss the change in Diego. When she mentions how Rod says she didn’t know how to purchase fabrics, Alonso suggests he’s getting kick-backs. Irene says no, he’s always been honest and Alonso says he used to be honest about other things as well. We don’t recognize him. Tad calls, Alonso seethes, and she has to placate Alonso again. As we’ll find out later, in another scene was edited out, I think they also discuss the possibly of “Diego” being bi-polar as in future conversations they talk with other about “Diego’s” possible personality disorder. I’m glad someone is finally getting to this place.
Rod realizes that by alienating everyone he’s going to get caught. He then calls a meeting in the conference room.
Paolo and Gino have lunch where the latter tells his son about Italy and where he’s from in Sicily. Of course, Paolo wants to know if he is part of the mob. The conversation turns to what Paolo would do if he met his dad. Paolo doesn’t know how he or his mother would react. Gino suggests perhaps his dad had a good reason to leave and miracles do happen regarding Paolo possibly meeting his dad. The two gossips from Carmen’s neighborhood are at the same restaurant and notice Gino holding Paolo’s hand. They call the old guy a pervert.
Everyone goes to the conference room where Rod proposes. Now after all that has transpired this episode, in spite of edits that may have occurred, I am livid that Nat accepted his proposal. I would have left with Grumps and you all know I dislike him. This part of the tn makes her seem exceeding insipid. He just tried to sexually assault you and you even said if he tried to propose you wouldn’t believe him but here we are in the name of plot advancement. Blech, ick, and my beanie burst.
Irma realizes Diego is getting worse as the heard nurse observed.
While Nat is over the moon about Rod’s latest mood swing, Irene looks very suspicious. At least she does mention she and Alonso thought he had a personality disorder. Grumps is vexed about the marriage proposal. Rosa feels Rod is acting very false but doesn’t reveal catching him in a lip lock w/the Brat. He demands Rod come to his office to talk immediately. Rod meets the Brat in the hallway on his way to see Grumps and tells her, she means nothing to him but get a place so they can be together discreetly. She’s thinking she’s getting a house. While she won’t listen to anyone including the great Maya Angelou, who unfortunately died today, I feel compelled to quote her here: “The first time someone shows you who they are, believe them.”
The gossips tell Padre Juancho about Paolo and his dad or to them the pervert. He goes to El and they continue their misunderstanding of Paolo’s sexuality and his dad’s intentions.
Grumps questions why Rod he pulled the public proposal. And Rod proceeds to ask Grumps to have the engagement dinner at his/their house. Grumps refuses and when Rod says they’ll have to go to Nat’s neighborhood, Grumps relents. I guess Rod knows who to play Grumps.
The Als are having a conversation about Diego. Doc Al finds his behavior odd (bi-polar doesn’t show up over night) but Lawyer Al thinks Diego is just getting his demons out (remember he’s the one dating the Brat so insight into people is not his strong suit). Doc Al says Diego has always been the calm one and they never have seen him act like this. He notes the look in “Diego’s” eye reminded him of Rod and of course Lawyer Al thinks that is crazy. Yet again in most of his professional life, Doc Al is spot on about odd happenings and personalities. His personal life remains mired in adolescence.
Irene thinks if the mood swings continue, Nat should insist that Rod see a shrink. The Brat thinks Nat’s engagement is good and both Nat and Irene get dumped. Rod comes in with numbers for the fabrics in his continued ruse.
Paolo puts info from the main computer to his laptop. Gino gets so excited about Paolo’swork he kisses him on each cheek. Paolo is a bit freak out and Alfredo, the jealous employee, is amused. El assigns Morales to follow Paolo and we know that will not end well.
Irene is at Al’s looking for the power of attorney form for Tad. She takes it to him and Al accompanies her. She quickly gives Tad the papers and goes. While he looks sad because he feels he has lost her, he can see (yeah), his health is improving (yeah again) and he’s beating the cancer (and again yeah!!)
The Brat meets Karina at the café. Karina’s hopes are momentarily stopped when the Brat tells her Al and Irene are a public items. The Brat wants Karina to help her on a real estate venture. Karina tells the Brat that Irene is an alcoholic and the two witches plan another dance night where they’ll try to get Irene drunk. This is an evil plan I hope doesn’t come to fruition.
Rod takes Nat home so he can ask Carmen for Nat’s hand. Carmen is initially harsh but she too gets caught up with the idea of marriage and charmed by rogue Rod. He tells them Grumps has agreed to the engagement dinner being at their house and both Nat and Carmen don’t want to go.
Grumps tells Lala about the engagement dinner and seems ok with it. Tiburcio finds out about the engagement and freaks because the grandchildren are marrying. Grumps lets him know that Irene is not his daughter and I guess he never forgave his wife for adopting her. Not that this should shock us but he says his daughter and granddaughter are nothing to him because they don’t have Caceras blood. He’s despicable and planning something to stop the wedding but we’ll have to find out later.
The real Diego continues to do worse. Irma goes to talk to the doctor to get advice but he wants to play.
Alonso freaks out about Irene having Tad’s power of attorney. Al continues to be immature but claims he is acting this way because she kept this from him. His problem is that she continues to have ties to Tad and he needs to get over this.
The next morning Rod calls Lawyer Al and tells him about the engagement dinner. He gloats over how easy this charade has been. Irene talk about the engagement dinner and she volunteers to make the wedding dress (because the tradition is that the groom’s gift to the bride is the dress, is this also a custom here in the US?) She also gives Nat the rest of the afternoon off to get pretty for the event while the Brat continues to display her lemon-face.
Carmen and Luz talk about the proposal and the wedding. They think the place Chato rented was nice but Luz insists Carmen talk to Nat first. Next they start planning the menu.
Morales checks in with El and lets him know he has seen nothing odd. Meanwhile Paolo tries to call Mara using another woman to initiate the call but both numbers are out of range. Morales follows Paolo to work and gets caught. Later he overhears the other employees talking about Paolo and the boss. They say he gets along with the boss and the boss is very fond of him.
Rod makes plans with his scam artist friends and Irma keeps calling him. He won’t call her back.
Nat tells Padre Juancho about her engagement. He at least calls her on being wishy-washy about “Diego.” She says his proposal won her over and they hope he won’t act crazy again. He’ll meet her at the dinner.
Irene comes home exhausted and Alonso has a patient emergency. She’s going to take a nap before the dinner.
Rod and the Brat try to take advantage of Nat being out of the office. Irma shows up, gets jealous, tells Rod Diego is dying. He wants to keep him alive long enough (15 days) so Diego can see how Rod stole his life. And here ends another set of episodes of Rod’s reign of terror.
Previews
Wretched Rod continues his horrible plans and Irma tries to resuscitate Diego.

Wow, Karen, that was a powerful sentence! And all too true, alas.
Saw the first part, and am really getting a kick out of Paolo's interactions with his Italian dad. His phony Italian accent just knocks me out. Especially since this guy usually play bad guys (but often inept, funny bad guys).
Thank you for the quote from Maya Angelou. Some light has gone out of our world with her passing. But how wonderful that her written work will continue to bless generations to come. Art and wisdom last longer than our fragile human lives do.
Many thanks for the recap. Keep hoping we will get less Rod, Brigette and Katrina, and more something else...anything else! even grumpy Grandpa...but so it goes.
He just tried to sexually assault you and you even said if he tried to propose you wouldn’t believe him but here we are in the name of plot advancement. Blech, ick, and my beanie burst.
Sidebar worthy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hit the hay super early again last night and got up early to watch this morning.
I didn't make it past the proposal and I had to stop. From you title I see that Nat did NOT turn RoDi down. Drat.
I can see Judy and Sara share my enthusiasm for your sensational lines.“Help me here friends, when did Diego have demons?”,“ I know, I know, I’m thinking too hard and my poor tn beanie may burst”, “Oh Carmen too bad you don’t know that the Brat never really works at the office except as a sex worker” and “Trouble in Hades” were the favorites in my greatly pared down list.
“I am livid that Nat accepted his proposal. I would have left with Grumps and you all know I dislike him… Blech, ick, and my beanie burst”. Karen, perfectly stated!
Thank you for quoting Maya Angelou whose assertion “the first time someone shows you who they are, believe them” was brilliant.
I will be ill if Rod manages to seduce Nat. I know Diego must survive but what Rod is doing is sickening.
If the Brat never darkens the screen again, I would be delighted. Poor Al...
I hope Tad does go into remission. I'm still pulling for him for Irene although I am more interested in them as a couple than she is. I like Al but I like Tad more and after all, he IS Natalia's father. :)
Thanks again Karen. This was top notch.
Diana
Doesn't matter if it was Rod or Dud that attempted the rape and the current shenanigans, Nat believes it was Dud and she still swoons. She is the poster girl for a future battered wife.
El you'll have another ex to deal with shortly. They're like cockroaches and I would council you woo another woman.
While Alonso is a teenage boy (not a bad boy though) I find no fault in him being perplexed when Aunt Irene drops all for Tad. Yeah, yeah he was ill and all but there is unfinished business between Irene and Tad still and it is not one way. Irene adores Tad and borders on hero worship. Al is just a fling, a fool and a place holder. Wake up Al and stick to jr high girls.
Well father you got the patience of Job with those Garcias.
Rod, gotta hand it to ya, you know those fools and what makes them tick.
Paolo when you find out, go live with your father.
The guy playing the Italian dad was a drug dealer in Robo, but he played a flamboyant Frenchman in the Corazon Salvaje remake. He seems to enjoy playing these quirky caricatures,
What was up with Nat's million dollar grin when Rodiego proposed in front of the staff ? Being a single lady would. E better than boring legally tied to that womanizing , unethical, conniving wheeler dealer.
I am tired of looking at Brat's scowling, pouty mouth and angry eyebrows...muy unattractive, ...what a crabapple.
Tonight will be the first time I'll watch the show in over a week, in my attempt to recap it. Hope I can resist throwing my shoe at the tv. Too much Rod, Karina, and the Brat. I miss Diana and her inept plans.
The Paolo storyline sounds funny though. Does no one know what Paolo's daddy looked like?
I'm interested to know why everyone thinks Paolo is gay.
Irma needs to go to jail because she is actively killing a human being just so she can get in Rod's pants. The Caceres family needs to sue the hospital when they find out about Diego/Rodrigo. What a crappy hospital! How come the hospital hasn't been able to detect brain activity in Rodrigo/Diego? Why is the doctor in charge more concerned about sexytimes from Irma than checking on his patients? What kind of doctor is like "Oh them patients can wait, lets get some afternoon delight?" We know Grumps is a bear, but the nurses were more concerned about covering up Diego's bruises with makeup than reporting it to a doctor! One nurse said Diego looked like he was decaying and if it was Irma, she should be charged with attempted murder and thrown in the carcel. And she let Rodrigo (!) administer coma drugs to Diego so she could have sexytimes with the doctor! The Caceres family needs to sue that hospital so bad, they rename it Caceres General Hospital.
The actress who portrays Brigitte probably won the part due to her ability to have a perma-scowl on her face 24-7. She tells Natalia to mind her own business, but she makes sure to get up in Alonso & Irene's business & help Karina. Why? And now these two little hoes are plotting to get Irene drunk? Brigitte made sure to runteldat to Rodiego about Irene declaring war but Natalia needs to mind her business? Girl, bye.
I can't wait for Carmen to find out about Brigitte's actions because I think Carmen would actually slug Brigitte for all the harm she's doing. And for what? You're hurting Alberto, Diego, Irene & Alonso, all to get back at Natalia?
I could see Carmen chastizing Brigitte for all the illicit sex she's having and Brigitte throwing Carmen's sexual past up in her face. But, the difference is Carmen actually thought she loved these guys. Brigitte is having sex to hurt people. And she's stuck on stupid because Rodiego is straight up telling her she's a piece of meat and a nothing but she keeps coming back for more. Natalia gets diamond rings & proposal dinners. Brigitte gets told to put Natalia's flowers in water.
Rod needs to make up his mind. In the same conversation with Irma he said he wanted Diego alive long enough to see that he'd stolen "everything" from him AND that he didn't care if Diego died.
Nat...just...I can't even....
I believe some of the action leading up to everyone thinking Paolo is gay was cut with Uni's edits. But I believe it also has to do with Paolo's total lack of interest in girls-- since no one knows about his secret girlfriend Mara.
In order for Abdul to not feel like he's just another employee, and like he has a real stake in the business, Carmen needs to acknowledge this and make him a true partner. Treat him like a man instead of a child, and he'll start to act like a man.
Pobre de Mara, we got a quick conversation with Paolo's classmate saying her mom made her go work at a church? And then both phone numbers he tried were "out of area." It feels like something more should be going on there, but we're getting none of it.
And as far as Abdul, though he keeps saying he's unappreciated, not treated as if he's really in charge, I'm not seeing what exactly happened to justify his level of anger. It was very sudden. Carmen was making sandwiches and he was looking at her like she'd done something terrible. Was there a discussion about what should be for lunch where Abdul was vehemently against sandwiches and she ignored him? Who knows?!
Judy, yes the actor playing Paolo's dad often does play very quirky, funny characters. It will be intersting when he and Carmen come face-to-face.
Sara, I completely understand stopping after the proposal. So many parts of this episode made me think of your recapper's privilege card of ignoring blatant foolishness.
Diana, though Al is a cutie, now that Tad has reformed and realizes the gem the Irene is I am more on team Tad. If Al won't believe Irene, she needs to move on.
tofie, yes indeed Nat has set herself up for being abused in all types of ways by ignoring the crazy. I know its the stuff of tn lore and being in love but this kind of crap can get you killed.
Susanlynn, the change in Nat was ridiculous. He made a public declaration and all his abuse never happened. Bleck!
Vivi, stick to having soft object around the tv because I'm sure one of our poor characters will do something so mind-bogglingly stupid you'll need to fire or just pause.
Anon207, El thinks Paolo is gay because Lupita said he was her favorite sibling due to the fact he played with her and her dolls. Also he's keeping his relationship w/Mara quiet because her mom is crazy.
Kat, I love how you doubt the Brat's seduction abilities. And Rod does need to make up his mind.
For example, if I decide that they cut a scene where Abdul got himself all worked up to talk to Carmen about wanting to be a full partner and was ready to present some ideas he had about the business, but Carmen was distracted because Natalia had just come in cranky about yet another breakup with Diego and Brigitte was busy throwing a tantrum because "Natalia, Natalia, Natalia" and it was time to pick Lupita up from school and she tossed an "Oh, Abdul, would you fix dinner? You're such a good boy, thanks!" over her shoulder, without waiting for a response then his attitude would make perfect sense.
The Paolo and Abdul plots have definitely taken a hit from the edits. I was looking over the titles of past episodes and it look like they edited out all of Andres's departure [episode 70 - Andrés se despide (Andres' goodbye)]. While he was often an idiot, he played an important role in the tn for us not to see him leave. Perhaps he'll come back and save Nat again. Pox on you Uni!!
And I think he made the rounds to say goodbye to Carmen and Luz, too.
JudyB, amiga, I've been listening to everything I can about our beloved Maya Angelou. "On Point" on NPR played a wonderful recording of her reading her poem "I Rise" (I SO love that poem) in the mid 80s. Yes, it made me cry (no surprise, eh?).
I've been following this in a peripheral manner and enjoying the work of our WONDERFUL recappers. So enjoy watching Cynthia Klitbo and Marcelo (!!!).
There is a great group of commenters here!!
Thank you again, Karen!
Fatima
Unfortunately, we are in the part of the tn where a lot of bad things are going on and some of our protagonists aren't too bright. Always a bad combination.
Regardless, it is great to see Marcelo and Cynthia as they are wonderful actors in spite of any plot silliness.
The Abdul & Paolo roles s/b be reversed. I have a hard time keeping them straight. The dark one s/b Abdul, son of Abdul Aldalá, played by Eduardo Rivera (don't know what he looks like) but an Arab is usually dark.
Vivi, thanks so much for the info on Edgardo Eliezer Tejada. I must have missed his episodes on MPV and will have to find them.
Karen- He appeared in two episodes near the end as Joaquin's doctor in the US. He no longer has the dreads.
