Que Pobres, 5/28: POBRESUQUI!
But before we get to that, we have a little blowback from Emiliano's little romp with his dad. Lupe wants to punish her son for scaring her. Mike first tries to console her, then goes for a heart-to-heart with the kid. He makes a speech about how the kid should respect and live with his mom for everything she's done for him. But the kid would rather play the video game Alejo bought him.
Consolation and hugs with Lupe.
Now on to the fun: The guests are rumbling and furious about the thefts. The king of sumatra (I can't remember his name) comes out with his chef hat and tries to distract them with talk of dessert. It doesn't fly. That woman in black (chief of Ana Sofia's frenemies) says it must have been the servants who stole the stuff: "all of us here are so rich and good."That's a disturbing development, but people are mostly just mad at the Ruiz-Palacios. They begin taking back the gifts! The ringleader of the frenemies continues to accuse the Menchacas and says "enough with this 'honorable poor' crap," poor people will always steal."
The detective arrives and asks if all of the guests are still present. Somehow nobody has noticed that the parents of the bride are missing.
Vilma brings Alejo a document (pertaining to custody of the kid, I think) and wants to go with him to talk to Lupe. She wants to be an intimidating presence at the meeting.
Mike suspects Alejo might be merely taking advantage of the kid.
Back at the wedding, Ana Sofia gets more and more sour. The ringleader of frenemies pronounces that the Ruiz-Palacios are broken. Leo mentions that this is going worse than a greek tragedy! The guests want the RP to pay for the stolen stuff. They're going to be pobresuiquis!
Saul the lawyer suspects Minerva may have some info to prove Mike's innocence and suggests Mike use his famed seduction skills to get the info out of her. Mike balks, and Saul is confused why he would have any hangups. "Sure, Lupe's a nice and cute girl, but Minerva is... Minerva." I think Saul has a thing for her.
At the wedding again, the detective reveals that Maca is no royalty. The shit hits the fan. AS comes down on Maca with a shaking fury, the girl admits that her "parents" were merely unemployed actors. AS is crushed and deflated and Leo yelps about not being a count.
Vilma reveals that Alejo may have some property rights over the Menchaca house through the grandma. Will he try to use it as leverage to get Lupe to marry him? Anyway, he asks her to stay behind as he goes in to talk to Lupe. He shows her the custody form and suggests it would be so much easier if they just all lived together. She isn't even remotely convinced.
Ana Sofia is in catastrophe. The ringleader notices that her dress is made of the same fabric as the curtains. This is the humiliation of her life. She begs Jesus for help. King of Sumatra hands her a bottle of booze (yikes! she's an alcoholic! does he think he's helping?). She says "thank you, don jesus."
Maca offers Leo a solution: why don't we just run off and live off of your family's fortune. Uhhhh that's a non-starter. They start to let loose on each other. Leo: "we don't have any money. You're a witch and I'll never be a count!
The Prince of Bananas! He's moping in his room over Leo (god knows why he likes the guy). His dad comes in, assumes it's about a girl, and gives him a speech. See, women are like bees. They give you honey and then sting you. Prince says the venom is worse than bee - it's a scorpion. Later, when Guendy comes in and yaks about the wedding disaster, the prince is horrified to hear the wedding went through and maybe encouraged that such a disaster might mean the marriage is short.
Mike makes a date with a fawning Minerva.
The newlyweds are basically moving in with the Menchacas. The king of Sumatra comes in on the arguing pair and snarkily asks how the royalty is doing. At first they bark at him that "we're doing fine, our marriage will last forever," but they quickly get to fighting furiously. She outs him as gay and tromps off. Once she's gone, an unphased Leo says "I'm not gay, I'm metrosexual." An utterly ruined and drunk Ana Sofia gives a "salud por el metro."
And that's basically it!
Julia - I also liked the sailor-knot crack!

Julia, thanks for confirming what I thought (but wasn't sure) I heard MA say about Ahole's necktie knots.
And yes, AS being the first to defend the Menchacas. Guilty conscience much??
The worst part for me was watching Chuy hand her the booze. I can't believe he did that. (I realize he thought he was helping.) When she guzzled it so hard it was dripping down her chin, I couldn't believe nobody tried to stop her. There's your porca miseria.
But, caray, did the crap ever hit the fan! What will AS do now, once she wakes up from her drunken stupor?
First, I'll just say it. I liked Maca and I liked the Maca/Leo couple. I think that their story could be an interesting one to tell. Yeah I know, we have the Leo/Diego-A couple, but as they say, there plenty of fish in the sea. It would not be hard at all to create a story around Diego and some one else and just let the Leo/Maca story be told.
It was just way too hard for me to watch the marriage dissolve as quickly as it was formed. Bad pints for both Leo and Maca where she could only the "duros" and he only wanted to flaunt his "count-hood".
AS got what she deserved. When I saw her cry it just reminded me of a crocodile. Did she cry because Maca pulled one over o them? Noooo... most likely she cried because she saw the possibility of getting away from the porca miseria and being royalty fly out the window.
And yet she does not learn. Just as soon as she arrived back atthe Menchacas she does not delay in calling their home a pocilga".
As far as the Menchaca home, I don't see how Alejo could have any rights over it. The property belongs to Granma Mati and she signed it over. Both super lawyers are now working on getting the deed put in the Menchacas name, so Alejo get multiplied by zero here. It will be interesting to see where the story goes with this.
Mister Chuy giving AS the bottle was really a sobering moment in the show. It had a lot of symbolism. I agree in that it was the wrong thing to do, but in doing so was the equivalent of euthanizing AS to end her suffering. Mister Chuy and others because no one opposed his action) saw that AS had been beaten and letting her get drunk was the only solution. The expression on Mister Chuys face as he handed her the bottle said it all.
Jane, good point about the power of attorney. At the beginning Alejo had doña Mati being kept drugged in a nursing home. MA broke her out. She still suffers from some form of dementia which she sometimes uses to her advantage. Who know what she signed at that nursing home.
The saddest part of the episode was don Chuy handing AS the bottle of gin.
The most brutal part of the episode was AS being told the truth at the reception in the presence of all of her country club friends. And then, the cherry on the top was Isela recognizing her dress was made out of the same fabric as the draperies.
Salvador, I sure agree that it didn't take much time for AS to go from defending the Menchacas to calling their home a "pocilga."
Best philosophical moment of the episode: As the younger Menchacas are taking great joy in the public humiliation of AS, Don Chuy telling them that nobody should be wished a moment like that whether they deserve it or not.
Lots of funny parts still:
The knot part that Julia mentioned.
AS calling the country club set "magpies" with Isela calling her a "hardly anonymous alcoholic cockatoo".
Doña Mati telling AS "con estos ojos que se van a comer los gusanos" --with these eyes that the worms are going to eat--she saw the "counts" steal it all.
AS willingly accepting in her alcoholic stupor the metrosexual confession to the homosexual confession given by Leonardo. Great that don Chuy knows the truth.
AS giving Maca ALL of her secret stash just to get rid of her.
Not funny:
Saul suggesting that MA romance Minerva to find out what kind of info she has access to to help prove his innocence. MA has been stuck in a real rut trying to prove his innocence. It seems that week after week he makes no progress.
The possibility of Alejo having control over the Menchaca's house and by extension being able to exert more pressure on Lupe.
Should be another good one tonight.
Jarifa
Alejo probably has a power of attorney or at least guardian role for Mati.
However, in order to override her signed documents to pass the property over to CHuy, he would have to PROVE that she was incapable of making her own decisions...
but on the other hand, the papers are still in progress, so she signed but Chuy still does not have deed documents (that I know of)... maybe Alejo can get Vilma to accelerate something before CHuy can have documents to prove it is his... unless Alejo pulls a quick pressure on Lupe such as getting MA locked up... that way she would marry him and Alejo could care less about the Menchaca home, unless he just wants to give Lupe and MA a blow by getting all the Menchacas kicked out of it.
I too loved the naval knots comment of MA about ALejo's tie knots... too funny with body language and all..
btw, the cops told the guests that the COUNT/COUNTESS were NOT, but he did not say anything about Maca. It was not until AS asked/ordered Maca to speak up that we all heard Maca say how she had 'faked' being a countess to them (she had sneaked into a royalty event and had a friend of hers, who was the photographer take pictures of her with the royalty, that is the pictures that appeared in the magazines that made AS and Leo believe she was a countess.
Jarifa- Great highlights and lowlights. ITA with them all.
As has been pointed out, the paperwork to give over the house to the Menchacas from Mati is as clear as mud. Add to that, Alejo's power of attorney over Mati and her easily questionable mental health, and Alejo and Vilma could easily tie up/hold up ownership of the Menchaca home and business. This is not going to be pretty.
My question though, is were Maca's parents truly actors pretending to be royalty or were they only actors,
i.e. not even her parents?
Chuy giving AS the bottle of alcohol was really bad. As was her bad mouthing the only place she has to live when she returned.
Socks, Maca's parents were neither royalty nor her parents.
I wonder if what Maca did was in any way illegal. Probably not, but it would be interesting to find out what becomes of her.
MA's comments on Alejo's necktie knots show us that Alejo is the kind of guy who would style himself in a fussy way. Although he does publish a fashion magazine.
Isela was really pushy with her comments, for an uninvited guest. All AS's efforts to create a stylish wedding turned into a tumbled down house of cards. I enjoyed seeing her desperation as things became worse and worse. None of her friends from the "cloob" had the least sympathy or comfort to offer.
At least everyone learned who the thieves were. Also enjoyed the disintegration of the Leo-Maca relationship. Loved seeing AS so willing to fork over her last cash to get rid of Maca. (There could be a spinoff TN beginning with Maca's wedding disaster, her return to Spain and a recovery-romance plot.)
AS may have hit bottom here and will awaken with nothing but a drapery dress and a massive hangover. She'll have to begin some kind of rehab, formal or informal, and learn to accept her current condition. Or is that too much to ask?
I'm still hoping that AS's remaining funds weren't enough to get Maca very far and she will resurface in our story.
Isela does have a lot of nerve to get in on the bitchery, considering she wasn't invited and her own poverty/marrying for money history.
Mati's and MA's disappearance must give Alejo hope that he's the sole inheritor of the Menchaca house.
Also loved Don Chuy's face when they were throwing the dirty laundry at each other.
I know Chuy was only trying to help by offering the only anesthetic at hand, but what AS really needed was a hug and for her family to physically shield her from the gawkers.
Whether or not she learned anything from this experience is a good question.
I thought she had learned something when the chicken ruined her hair, and Gwendy and Perla fixed it up better than it was before; but that experience didn't change her much. (Though she did brag about her "new hair stylist in Rome" when she went to the swanky salon during her 300,000 peso spree.)
I also thought she had learned something when they made her pick up the dog turd on the floor; but that didn't do anything for her at all.
I hope she doesn't have to go any lower than this, because if she were to take up Salomon and/or Alejo on their offers I don't think I could take it.
I didn't recall that Mati had signed those papers in favor of the Menchacas. I must pay better attention.
I've had a soft spot for Ana Sofia from the beginning, so I felt especially sorrow for her in her utter humiliation. However, I beamed at her for standing up boldly for the integrity of the Menchaca family. It truly was painful for me to see her guzzling that gin. She had been doing so well holding up under one setback after another during the wedding without crawling into a bottle for solace.
I got anther brief glimpse of the ceramic horse on Nepo's coffee table with the saddle on backwards. I'm intrigued.
I so enjoyed MA's calm sweet chat with Emiliano. He seemed so genuinely concerned and understanding and he was so positive in the way he framed it. What a wonderful contrast to Alejo.
What about the baby?
Carlos
What a sad end to the wedding. I felt so sorry for AS, those frenemies are the worst.
I wasn't expecting to see Maca coming home with the RPs. I'm sure it will lead to some funny moments, which we really need after this painful episode.
