Lo Que la Vida Me Robó Lunes 5/26/14 #139
Labels: robo
Is "Mommie Direst" new? It is surely a keeper.
Poor Macario. He seems to have bought into the tragedy queen act. Not me. I think Graciela is enraged at being conned. All these years, she has thought of herself as the puppet master. It infuriates her to think that others -- Ben, Amelia and even lowly Mac -- were pulling her strings.
José Luis is looking consistently grim and he is starting to get sweaty again.
It makes me nervous that Adolfo is telling María things that Nadia has entrusted him with. Adolfo may think he is in control, but I'm not so sure.
Well, I wanted to get my two cents in early since I'll be off the grid for a few days. Talk to you all later in the week.
Splendid job, Urban!
What a finger poking, finger thumping, finger snapping, face grabbing, face slapping, neck choking episode!
Loved it!
It was so nice seeing Graciela tormented by her past!
Jarifa
This was stunning! The screen shots and the dialogue. Oh my word! So much dialogue! How in the world can we ever thank you enough!! HOLY COW!!
I'm with NovelaMaven re Graciela and her wonderful little show. The only way I got through that horrible humiliation and despicable treatment of Macario was the sense that Graciela KNEW she had been conned and beaten at her own game! Her irritating voice was perfect for this scene. There was a moment there where all I could think was that she was evil incarnate.
Her abusive actions towards others are getting harder to watch. Now that Pedro seems to have picked up this wretched habit of poking heads and faces, it will be even harder to watch.
Graciela is the ultimate phony and I can't wait to see her demise.
I can't remember who said it yesterday, but I agree that JL looks and acts like a louse. The Miami Vice look does not suit him at all. His nasty looking 5 o'clock shadow makes him look grungy, dirty, and sweaty.
Macario is unable to keep secrets, so I was dismayed when Alejandro and Victor came into that shop. Of all the people in the world to ask to keep a secret, Macario is not the one to ask.
Carlota is going to see another side of her devoted husband very soon, I'm afraid, but I gotta say that I enjoyed Maria making EZ Basura squirm.
NovelaMaven, hope you have a good few days away. We will eagerly await your return!
This was such an incredible piece of work, Urban. HOLY COW!!
Fatima
Thanks so much for this very splendid recap and I too loved the Mommy Direst line.
I felt bad for Nadia, the poor thing, and I want her abuse to end like yesterday. I can't wait for the day that she is free of Peddy.
I also feel bad for JL. I know, I know, Monse won't eva be his, but I want him not to lose his honor. I'm hoping that stays intact. The poor man is fighting a losing battle.
I didn't like what Rosy did. I know she wants her boy to get his family back, but I wanted her to handle it differently. It's almost like venganza with her right now.
I wonder what EZ will do now? This will be interesting.
I too agree that all of Graceless pity partay for one was all about her being conned. She would have used this baby girl anyway she could, same as she did with Monse and Dimi. She's just pithed she was conned, especially by Don Benny.
I too will be off the gird until Friday, so thank you so very much Urban for this fabulous recap and all the great screen shots too. So perfect!
It was rewarding to see Gracie on the receiving end of trouble and misery. She loves dishing it out, but didn't have as much fun taking it. She must have felt the ground shifting underneath her.
I did like that turquoise and blue necklace she had on during the Macario conversation. Speaking of jewelry, in the scenes with Montse and JL, Montse didn't have on a wedding ring. I'm sure he gave her one in the wedding ceremony. ??
Monica (in heels) was taller than Dimi in their kissing scene. At least he gave her the background on Mommie direst (great nickname!)
Pedro and Nadia are playing some intense scenes together. His terrorism toward her is too real for comfort. Is he losing it, though, not to recall that JL is now chief of police?
The plot is almost two steps forward, come to a cliff edge, turn, and take one step back.
Pedro wants to forget JL is now the police chief because he would have objected to this choice. Yes, it isn't exactly realistic to have an ex-con in this position, but I strongly doubt that he should have authority over such an appointment from his present position. Pedro is a puppet-master whose power is being challenged by the man with his own previous position.
My biggest problem with EZ so far was how long it's been taking to bring Pedro down. You'd think he would have found the way by now. However, he seems to have become sucked into it. He gets dinero from Pedro's drug running and he's becoming just as sadistic. I think his treatment of Maria is part of her Karmageddon, but the problem is that he's likely to treat other women the same way. Carlota will feel like the ultimate fool when she finds this out and Gracie will make it worse. Carlota could even lose the family home over this.
More after caffeine.
Thanks for the recap. I always look forward to reading them. And the screenshots, they were awesome too. Thanks for all your hard work and effort.
Finally! Gracie got a taste of her own medicine. I don't believe her suffering. I don't think she wanted that baby. I can't forget the look on her face or her tone of voice with Padre A, when we saw that flashback of her telling the Padre that her baby was dead. She had no remorse. ITA with all who said that she was upset that she was conned. Now that she knows who Fabby is, I doubt that she will reconcile with her. Gracie will secretly try to find a way to prove she is Fabby's mother, then demand half or all her money.
I hate the way JL is squirming his way out of being discovered. He is going to have to keep making up lies in order to keep Montse by his side. I hated the fact that he told Montse that Ale abandoned them when he left, and that Ale forgot about her. JERK! He is only making it worse for himself in the end. If JL is acting this way because he thinks Ale is in a coma, I can only imagine what his reaction will be when he finds out he's alive and in Aguazul. I fear that JL will put Ale in jail. If he does, he will loose Montse and Laurito. But hey, he'll still have Fabby waiting in the wings!
Nadia and Montse's reunion was a tearful one for me. You could feel how anxious Nadia was. It must be torture for her to lie so much. It's going to be painful to hear her tell Montse that Ale didn't survive the plane crash. Damn You Peddy and Gracie!
It was a total mistake for Adolfo to take BM out of rehab. And an even bigger mistake to tell her about Ale. I liked the fact that she got EZ is hot water with Carlota, but I hated seeing that all too familiar smirky smile on her face.
I am not sure what to think about Ale and Vic going to see Mac and Dominga. Everyone knows Mac can't keep a secret. Are the writers trying to tell us something? We all know that in TN Land, things happen for a reason. I'm just not sure on this one.
La Paloma
I noticed Montse's missing wedding rings too. She wasn't wearing them when they came back home from their honeymoon either. And also in the scene where she goes to the cake shop after seeing Ale in the rearview mirror. Wardrobe malfunction?
Thanks again Urban A!
Off to bed...hasta pronto!
Fatima, this is the sixth installment I've done in this style. It started at episode 114. It was a necessary change because the tone of the story had changed significantly, as I explained in the foreword to that episode.
I really wish Televisa would do a novela de epoca in this style. Most of the actors in this series already look right for it without a lot of change beyond the wardrobe.
Interesting last night that the supposed people who think they have the upper hand were starting to see the possibility of their worlds coming apart. And how do they lash out: calling those they confront by demeaning names and trying frantically to "put them in their place". If it wasn't in words, it was actions like Pedro's finger snapping or the throat grabbing. The peasants are going to revolt and it won't be pretty when that happens to these cretins. Did I feel bad for Gracie--nope.
I have never been enamored of JL, he had a few moments with Angie for me, but his manipulation and stone cold reactions now are showing a man really heading down that slippery slope. That threat to Fabs? So, what would he do? For those who say that the only way Ale and Monse can be together will be JL's demise may be on to something.
Not sure how I feel about Dim and his Captain. I think he is coming from a sincere place with her now, which is amazingly more than anyone else is doing, but it seems he is still hurting by Fina's leaving and wonder how that comes into play at some point. But he didn't make promises of love, so Mar goes into this with her eyes open.
Oh, those previews. Ale meeting his little guy and will the boy recognize him? Yikes!
Daisynjay
Very good description of Monse and JL's conversation about secret keeping-JL's, of course.
Liked, "At that moment José Luis might have wished himself dead if he had a conscience.".
Will probably have to wait until tonight to do the rest of the recap justice.
Trouble in paradise for Carlota, not a good harbinger.
Gracie reminds me of a wild animal as she growls and snarls and shows her teeth. She is starting to look increasingly unhinged as she loses control of people and situations. What a tragic existence...estranged from her family..no friends. Her physical abuse of Macario was hard for me to watch. She released all her frustrations on him in the form of slaps, pushes, and thumps...how demeaning. I totally agree that her fury had to do with being tricked ..not her love of that baby. Gracie has no idea what love is...poor soul.
Watching Ped snapping his fingers in front of Nadia's face and pushing her forehead was just horrible. the young actress is doing an amazing job. It looked like that finger shove to her forehead was real and painful.
I agree that JL is looking sweaty and smarmy in his Miami Vice jackets and ten o'clock shadow.
Dimitrio called it perfectly. She is a person who is incapable of love and who only sees opportunity for money or control. She is unhappy and isn't satisfied until everyone else around her is unhappy, like Carlota in ENDA. The only important difference between them is that Carlota was willing to do her own murders rather than trust them to others, as Graciela has mostly done.
I am fairly sure she tried to kill her infant daughter by Benjamin. There was also no remorse about it. She enjoyed shocking Padre Anselmo about it. She enjoys intimidating others because she refuses to have any other sort of interaction with others. People like her can never have friends because friendship requires trust, something she does not give and people quickly realize she doesn't deserve.
Her hypocrisy is the stuff of legend. She rants about "class" but is perfectly willing to ignore it for the right $um. And you can't buy class in the other sense for money because that's about how you present yourself and how you behave with others.
We have all expressed ourselves over her religious hypocrisy. And her Crimes Against Fashion, which was the main reason for the arrival photo in this article.
What shocked me was how Macario took her abuse last night. He doesn't deserve that abuse by any stretch and she was never his boss. She has no authority over him. However, I think there is a loophole. Since we never saw the padre being murdered or the disembodied hand in the shoebox, I think he's alive and when that is proven Macario can sing like a canary about Gracie's sordid past.
She is scared witless over public exposure of this. If that were to happen she could end up in the manicomio (not that she doesn't already belong there).
Thanks so much for the wonderful recap! It's always a pleasure for me on a Tuesday morning. Loved all the dialogue and the terrific screen shots.
I won't write more since I need to get back to work after a long weekend away, but just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed the recap.
Best,

Jarifa
As Daisynjay said, it is difficult sitting through some of these scenes, that you captured every little nuance just amazes me! Absolutely super!
I gotta say that I nearly died laughing when Graciela walked in with those boots and that dress and that necklace. I love the boots, but this outfit was a crazy mish mash of Graciela trying to decide if she was going to be Nefertiti or Annie Oakley!
To make sure I am on the correct page, here is another QUESTION:
Given what transpired last night, are we now SURE that Fabiola is Gracie's daughter? At one point, it was thought that she could be an impostor. Is that option now completely off the table?
The whole baby issue has me just a tad confused. Graciela deliberately tried to kill that child, yes? She thought she had accomplished her deed, but somehow, Amelia got a hold of the child and must have told Benjamin. Benjamin was a sociopath. What made him show kindness in saving and supporting that child? Was it convenience? Was it a desire to help his sister? Would really like to hear some thoughts on this.
I've been really tardy in saying this, but the actress playing Nadia is doing an incredible job. I think her character has much more "meat" than the Montserrat character.
Aunty Ann, I have also been wondering how Graciela will deal with Fabiola now. I think your thought is a good one.
Madelaine, I have to agree that Rosario is probably dealing in some venganza right now. I see the reason for her actions and I think she is very upset that JL "used" Laurito in the cover up scheme. That would fry me as well.
I wish Dominga had stayed around to support Macario. I still can't get over that horrible and demeaning treatment of Macario.
Graciela's anvil had better be good.
As for Maria, well, I think she is nothing more than a plot device now.
Fatima
Perfectly said Fatima! I had hoped if we had her back, they could be some nuance or changes into her character, but she's back to the same old one note. So yep, have her do her usual nuisance behavior to cause whatever trouble. Good thing she has Carlos in her corner because she's just back to be an annoying gnat to me.
I fully expect to Gracie to confront Amelia and I wonder if Amelia will throw back at her the fact she was hardly Mother of the Year material when the baby was born. She made it clear she didn't want anything in her way of climbing the social latter. Convenient for Gracie to forget that now. Being her other two children have pretty well told her to take a hike, how much of that regret and tears is the fact she would have had another kid to use as a chess piece? And the fact it turns out the child grew up to be a wine guzzling, hateful b**** and manipulator. Doubt Gracie admires her daughter for so brilliantly exhibiting her parental gene pool. And yes, Fatima, I do think we are getting the Fabs is her daughter set up now. I think the "maybe Maria" ship is sailing, but then again...
Daisynjay
" Since we never saw the padre being murdered or the disembodied hand in the shoebox, I think he's alive and when that is proven Macario can sing like a canary about Gracie's sordid past".
I gave a possible explanation of the Padre's whereabouts yesterday.
Padre Anselmo's spirit occupies the Tundra, guiding it all of those beautiful promotional locations in Aguazul.
He keeps it away from evildoers; it's only certain members of and those close to the Almonte family who can enjoy it.(Alejandro, Montse, Macario and Victor come to mind.)
If someone else would try to drive it, it would turn into that vehicle from Steven King's Christine.
When Alejandro finally climbs into that spacious cabin once again, admires the richly-leathered upholstery and turns the key and beings the engine to life, so then will the Padre return among the living.
Thanks for all the care and hard work you put in on these recaps. They are a delight to read.
My computer is running hot. I will be taking it in this afternoon and I hope i can get it back tomorrow.
I watched much of this episode, and found the scene between Pedro and Nadia to be most upsetting. Poor, poor, Nadia! No matter what she says, anybody and everybody has to know she's being forced by Pedro, and that he must have kidnapped her. Once again I ask, why is it so damn hard for all these adults to get her out of there? March in there with a police or Navy squad, and there would be no way Pedro can deny them access and prevent them from them from taking Nadia and Victoria with them. Sheesh!
Also, explain to me again why Monse can't know that Ale is alive (but Mac and Dominga can)? What's worse at this point-- JL hiding that Ale was alive and in a coma in Argentina; or Ale hiding that he is alive, awake, in Agua Azul, and telling almost everyone else except Monse?
I agree with those who didn't buy Gracie's hurt mother act. The only reason she is upset is because Amelia and Ben fooled her, not because she wanted to be a mother to Fabi.
Gracie is creating more problems, which is part of what will fill the next 56 episodes.
Urban, I agree with you regarding Fabiola and Maria getting switched. It would fall in line with Ale thinking of Maria as a sister and Uncle Juve's unhealthy and creepy petting of Maria (in my opinion). Also, it would be a little ironic due to Gracie's put down of Maria being a maid when Gracie herself had humble beginnings. Like Mother, like daughter.
I am still disgusted with JL but I refuse to waste anymore words on him.
I am irked at how many people now know that Victor and Ale are alive and Montse is in the dark. It stinks too because Montse now has knowledge that her mother falsely accused Ale which could help him clear his name.
Oh, well the drama continues.
Caryn
This made me smile:
"He had hoped it wouldn't come to this, but he wasn't married to a idiot."
You must have been feeling very charitable when you wrote that.
María seems to have been reanimated and energized by her stint in rehab and now seems very confident and focused as well. She doesn't appear to be the least bit intimidated by Zeke nor Carlota. I especially enjoyed the little wave she gave EZ when Carlota announced that she was there followed the look on his face. Later she barely blinked when he grabbed her throat. I think that some of you are underestimating her importance in the scheme of things.
Although I kinda understand Alejandro's delay in officially announcing his presence in Agua Azual, I think that he is making a big mistake in revealing himself to some, but not Montserrat. I doubt that she will appreciate or understand his keeping her in the dark.
UA, I can't agree with this at all:
"I am fairly sure she tried to kill her infant daughter by Benjamin."
If she had, I'm sure that she would have succeeded and if she had, I'm certain that the writers would have hit us over the head with that fact. I believe that to some degree she feels sorrow for what has happened. It will be interesting to see how she deals with Fabiola now that she is aware that she is her daughter. I also think that she genuinely craves to restore an emotional tie with her other two children. She is definitely a bad mother but not entirely devoid of motherly instincts.
Carlos
ITA with what you said about Montse and JL's marriage being the reason Ale is keeping quiet. Up until last night Ale didn't know that JL had suspicious of Ale being alive. I think now that Ale know what JL knows, he will tell Montse he is alive. Especially now that Rosario told Ale that JL had Laurito keeping secrets from his mother, and that JL married Montse knowing Ale was alive. Ale will reveal himself because even though everyone is telling him how well JL has treated Montse and Laurito, JL is now in defense mode and could hurt Ale's family.
I will have to read the comments later and likely won't get to comment on tomorrow's recap until very late in the day.
I am in dismay over all just about every story thread at this point but your recap had me transfixed and humbled. Thank you UA.
Diana
She is definitely a bad mother but not entirely devoid of motherly instincts.
Carlos, I have to agree. Graciela is hateful and I'll be shocked if she starts treating Fabiola well now, but she does want Monse and Dim to care for her. She is jealous of the motherly relationship Rosario has with them.
I was struck by the contrasts between the look on JL's face and Pedro's face as they hovered near Nadia and Monse. Pedro looked cruel (what else is new?), getting off on his control over Nadia. But JL look sad, depressed, fearful. JL needs to remember he is police chief and it's his duty to help Nadia escape. If JL makes Nadia lie about Ale as stipulation for his help, I'm done with him. If I were Graciela, I'd start calling him El Patético.
I am a JL supporter and despite his current lapses, I feel for his long-suffering and his many losses. Pobrecito!! (Now I sound like Carlos re Maria, don't I?)
I really like Monica, but I'm hoping for a Fina/Dimi reconciliation.
Yola
One wonders what kind of family life Gracie had as a child because she is certainly a very damaged human being who does not seem to know how to love and respect others. There are always reasons that we are the way we are.
POR FAVOR! I have been wondering how in the world Alejandro could reveal himself to Macario (of all people!!), but not Montserrat.
You hit the nail on the head Vivi in DC, what in the heck is Alejandro waiting for?! Is he waiting for Graciela? Fina and her bumbling ways? Ay! Sometimes, I could scream with some of the action here.
I also am in total agreement re the ADULTOS in this story who can't put two and two together re Nadia. Little Victoria is going to blab sooner or later and I hope it is sooner. The poor child is at the breaking point as things stand now.
As far as Fabiola goes, I am STILL not sure she is Graciela's child. That would be too easy, wouldn't it?
Fatima
As I've said before I'm absolutely intrigued by that prospect and would like nothing more than for María to be Gracie's child, Alejandro's, Montserrat's, and Dimitrio's sister. But 2 questions loom... how and why? As I recall, Amelia took the infant from Gracie's arms and took her to the hospital. This removes the child from the venue of the convent making an accidental switch unlikely. It's also unlikely that María would have been born either at the convent or a hospital.
TNs are like jigsaw puzzles where all the pieces eventually fit together however implausibly. A switch would leave poor Fabiola as a piece that just doesn't fit. Introduce me to a mother for Fabiola and I'll be all in.
Carlos
Fabiola seems like a chip off the ole block (head). Maria seems to have been destroyed emotionally as a child. I suspect that pervie Juvie had something to do with it.
Maybe they will throw in a new mother close to the end? Stranger things have happened, right?
If that is a mint julep in your avatar photo, I could use one right now. TRAFFIC can be so disgusting, let me tell you.
Fatima
Thanks for the recap Urban.
We have wondered if EZ Basura really did have the nerve to commit such an act.
Fatima
If Amelia was right there when the child was born and Amelia has stated she visited this child frequently, then, all fingers point towards Fabiola.
IF there was a deliberate switching of said child, a) what would Amelia have gained by doing this and b) why is Amelia becoming more and more upset with each visit of Graciela (aside from the usual finger thumping and pushing, etc)?
Amelia knows much more about this story than she is telling. Why would she have even discussed this with Pedro in the first place KNOWING exactly what kind of person she is dealing with in Graciela?
Fatima
Aunty Ann, holy cow, isn't it just like Graciela to blame Alejandro for all of this mess?! The lies just slide off that forked tongue so very easily, don't they?
Graciela has a very twisted mind. After what she did to Macario last night, I really do think she is evil.
Fatima
I am also feeling the desperation to get Nadia out of Pedro's house. How much more abuse can she take? At least before she could see him coming, now she has to protect herself and Vicki without her sight to help her.
I am also with all of you who didn't buy into Gracie's crying last night. Poor Mac, she can really dish out the physical abuse! But I do think that Fabs is her daughter and I agree with Carlos when he says "She is definitely a bad mother but not entirely devoid of motherly instincts." I think her greed gets in the way of letting those instincts take over.
Oxnard love your interpretation of the Tundra being moved around by Padre A's spirit. Maybe in the end it will be the Tundra who takes out the bad guys? ;-)
