Que Pobres Tan Ricos #88: 5/8/14: The Commenters Recap

Hola Amiguis! I am unable to do my  usual Thursday recap because Mr. Mads if having knee surgery at 6:00AM on Friday morning and I couldn't stay up to watch the episode. So I came up with a novel idea. Just as Julie did a whole team recap a couple three weeks ago, I thought I'd do a all commenters recap. This way the commenters can chip in and tell me what you saw. I will be back next Thursday, for my  usual recap. Thank  you so much for helping me out and hey, I have an earworm for you, I couldn't leave you without one ; ) The Best Is Yet To Come!

I think A'hole's idea of taking a picture of Vilma and Adolfo is to frame her as part of the money laundering scam. After all she is the one that has been moving the money in the company to A-hole's accounts. So as long as he can hide his accounts and hide his name from any 'signature block' he can blackmail both Vilma and Adolfo.
The one that came in the picture last night is Bambi. A-hole has no answer to that threat. Bambi knows A-hole framed MA when the real guilty one was him. And Bambi knows the who's who of the whole scam. So A-hole fears what Bambi can do much more than what Adolfo can do or even what MA can find.

MA is playing it conservatively, realizing A-hole has been visiting Emiliano at school but trying to get some admission/explanation from Emiliano as to why he is keeping it from his mom before MA goes to just break the news to Lupe about what Emiliano is keeping from her.

I fell asleep before the end so can someone give some bullets of what happened. thanks!

I do know that Bambi received some written note at jail (LOVED LOVED his room! complete with couch, TV and lamps!!) he asked the other guy to get him a laptop with camera to get a video conference going (so they even need internet for that!)
Bambi calls A-hole to demand arranging a web conference.
A-hole reluctantly agrees and in the web conference Bambi alerts A-hole that he is still waiting for the meeting A-hole was supposed to arrange, and that 'hey! guess what!! I ran into your cousin MA, you know, the one you framed for laundering my money! He is not in Italy! he is here in Mexico! and asked me for help in proving his innocence! So if you don't come through for me then I will just turn to the dark side (no, the team up with MA) and rain on YOUR party!!' Then before A-hole can think of a smarty pants response the web conference is over! A-hole is visibly shaken/scared. He has to find MA and END that threat ASAP!!

So it is a fun web game there.
Adolfo has some phone conversation recorded that compromises A-hole in the money laundering scheme.
A-hole has Adolfo running from the law since he framed him AND MA as associates in the money laundering, he also framed MA who is also running from the law.
Now A-hole has pictures of Vilma and Adolfo, which compromise Vilma as an accomplice, and he can prove she was the one who moved the money around between accounts...
But Bambi is on to A-hole and MA is getting help from Tomas' hacker, Mini, and now POTENTIALLY BAMBI HIMSELF in gathering proof against A-hole.

I am with you Julia and others, let the wedding begin!!! that should be FUN TV!!
Diego (the actor who plays Leo) is really good... how can he come up with all those gestures and keep a straight face is beyond me.

Actually the one that called Alejo to arrange the video conference was Dumbo, a cell mate of Bambi. Alejo was none too happy and wondered who’d be calling him next, Simba? LOL

Madelaine, good luck to Mr. Mads on his knew surgery. Thank you for posting the header.

Highlights funny and not for me:

MA hiding in full sight from Alejo right next to his car. MA looked like he was doing a tornado drill. Maybe you learn the same posture for "earthquake drills."

Minerva and Isela discussing ideas to make the fashion magazine a real hit. Isela suggests pushing imported "nice" knockoffs from a company called "Tianguis"; Tex-Mex fashion with the boots, hats, and jackets with all the fringe. Minerva has her own ideas with turbans, pashminas and sexy little thongs. You can't miss the portrait of Minerva's beloved father.

Nepo out spying on Lupita with Trofeo. He sees MA with Lupita and Emiliano and come to the conclusion that MA must be the go between for Lupita.

Dumbo( a guard) calling to tell Alejo to get ready by his computer for a videoconfereence with Bambi. Alejo cannot believe their names: first don Bambi, then don Dumbo; who's next don Simba?

The Menchacas having a big turkey dinner. Frida is grossed out because she is vegetarian, Leonardo tells AS they are eating monkey. AS tells him they should join in because sometimes you have to do things you do not want to do to get ahead. Don Chuy says no silverware for turkey or sweet bread when AS asks for some. He then shows her how to dip a concha in coffee and eat it and she enjoys it. Leonardo is the killjoy here talking about carbs and fat. AS talks about the impending wedding and living in a castle in Spain. Don Chuy says the process for the Menchacas to become the owners of their own castle is going well.

Alejo being hysterical about the MA and Bambi situation and talks about fleeing the country rather than going to jail etc. until Vilma slaps him back into reality. He just wants her to help him if things go bad to get out of Mexico so he can set himself up ALONE in another country. Vilma clearly is not impressed. He then says he will get MA dead or alive. As he thinks about it, why alive?

Saul meeting with MA and tells him he knows the whole truth from Minerva and that she and Alejo really complement each other. He then mentions famous pairs and actually includes " don Fernando and Omar" from LFMB (earlier role of these actors). Saul then starts to make fun of Tomas's contacts: who? The earring seller? The taco lady? They decide Minerva can still help get them proof. Saul is not happy MA would be talking to Bambi. Guendy appears on the scene and MA tries to get lonely old Saul to accept her coffee invitation but

Lupita having her money all allocated for the bills including money for don Salomon and The first payment for Nepo. Don Chuy is not too sure about a "first" payment. He thinks Nepo will want his 300,000 pesos paid in full.

MA talking with Lupita and Emiliano outside their house. Lupita forgot something and has to run in to get it. MA takes advantage of the situation to ask Emiliano why he is lying to his miter and then if his father asked him to lie to his mother.

Jarifa

Last line "mither" should be mother.

Jarifa

Yikes! First line should be "knee" surgery

Jarifa

Jarifa, thanks for all the details! I must have been dozing on and off, remember some, and not some.
As far as correcting the post, what I normally do is copy my whole comment, delete the original, make the corrections and then repost it. that way you dont have to post corrections.

yeah that scene where AS was at first totally against Chuy showing her how to 'dunk' the bread into her coffee and then she loved it...
I totally get it. i used to dunk bread or even Ritz crackers into my coffee as a kid and sometimes still do it just for fun.
Also someone showed me that dunking some cheese into hot cocoa and letting it melt is delish... and it is.

Marta, thanks for the tip. If I were only that talented on my tablet! :) i

I am a "dunker" from way back. The cheese and cocoa thing sounds interesting.

Jarifa

Jarifa already mentioned my favorite moment: Saul citing "Don Fernando and Don Omar" as a famous pair. LOL!

I think Gwendy/Saul make a perfectly plausible pair, if Saul can get over himself. That would leave Nepo available for Minerva so that they can have lengthy conversations in which they pay no attention to one anothers' words.

I don't know who Vilma could end up with, but I figure that unless she successfully flees the country to evade justice, her best bet will be her cellmate in prison.

As I was watching Beto last night looking for a good vantage point to take a picture, I realized that he reminds me of Trofeo. Not only because he's short, but his personality is similar too. I wonder if we will find out in the end that they are brothers.

...and I am not a dunker. I like having coffee on my donut, but I do not like having donut in my coffee.

I like dipping though. I just don't like drinking something that has stuff in it.

I love how plushly Bambi has himself set up in prison...and that he has acquired a lackey named Dumbo.

Dunking, EWWWWWWWWW. I hate soggy bread. The concha looked good eaten separately. Of course the family has to happen to be eating stuff that doesn't involve utensils right when AS is on her training-the-heathens bender, so they can look as rube-like as possible. I wonder what AS is planning to have them serve at the wedding and how she is going to acquire the food. I would kind of love it if she strongarmed the Menchacas into cooking and they managed to turn a bunch of fancy ingredients into comida típica. Or if they turned out a spectacular display of really elegant and tasty stuff and then the wedding was a complete fracaso before the guests ever touched it so all the Nopalerans got to eat it instead.

Saul was so afraid of Guendy, ha. I would like to see them together. Hilarious. I like the idea of Nepo and Minerva having a mutually self-absorbed marriage, too.

Mads I hope all goes well with Mr. Mads knee surgery and will be prayer for you both.

Thanks so much Marta and Jarifa. Now I'm off to see what I missed.

I really liked Tiare's acting in front of the mirror last night. The way she couldn't really smile when she was smiling was really good. Maybe there's some hope for our Vilma if she's considering that maybe she's more attractive than she and Ahole give her credit for. She seems to be finding her self-esteem!

I still vote for Vilma and Saul together, but that is only if Vilma does not end up in jail.
As far as Nepo and Mini, I think that would be one-sided. they are both self-absorbed, but Nepo would be in his 'world' whereas Mini would just whine 24/7. That is not something Nepo would tolerate for long.
I still want Nepo and Gwendy together in the end.
Tomas and Perla... well, maybe not. he is too smart to keep purchasing her.

Tomas can do better than Perla unless she really grows up a lot. She's such a vague and not very useful character. I can hardly believe she didn't even finish prepa and I'm glad everyone is telling her to go back to school. She just wants to be a model but is she even doing anything to pursue that? She went to one casting, and not very prepared in knowing what they were looking for.

In the meantime, Perla should at least be making more of an effort to contribute to the family's well-being and saving up some money to pursue her own interests, but she seems to feel entitled to do nothing but wait for fame and fortune to come knocking at the door. She makes fun of Frida for being useless and entitled, but Frida is at least making an effort.

Maybe Maca and Tomas could live happily ever after.

I'm confused as to whether Saul is still Mini's lawyer. Did they fire one another? I know he was angry about her lying, and she was angry that he and MA were telling each other stuff...

If she doesn't have a good lawyer for this divorce, she's screwed. Does she think she can beat Ahole by picking some random ambulance-chaser out of the phone book? (Do people use phone books any more??)

Oh! Maybe MA introduces her to Tomas, and after some hesitation she agrees to let him handle her case. Between the divorce and MA's issues Tom is able to NAIL Alejo, and by then Tomas and Mini are an item.

Perla's going to have to find a boyfriend someplace else, but that's not my problem. :-) I agree she hasn't been the most exciting character so far, but maybe her big story is still to come.

Maca and Tomas! that would be one interesting couple. They would be hilarious together!

Thanks for all the details, folks! I'm hoping to watch this tonight (but it probably won't be until tomorrow.)

Um...who is Maca?

Another famous couple Saul mentioned was El Gordo y La Flaca.

I think Gwendy is slated for Nepo. There doesn't seem to be another female in the story yet for Saul to connect with. When Gwendy was approaching MA and Saul, Saul kept whispering to MA, no, no, no, no, when Gwendy wanted an introduction.

Minerva did fire Saul. Not sure why she did since she told him the truth about her lying under the client/attorney confidence thing. Now he isn't her attorney anymore. That could be why he told MA about it.

Alejo has a lot to worry about with Bambi. So Alejo either gets Bambi out of jail or Bambi sings.

Thanks for the recap to all commenters who helped.

Madeline I hope everything went well with your husband's surgery.

I didn't watch this episode when it aired here so it's interesting to see how AS was trying to get the Menchacas to help with the wedding.

About the conchas, I actually can't eat them without them being dunked in hot chocolate. However, I don't like bread in my coffee. And I don't like donnuts.

Jarocha

Sara, Maca is Macarena, the alleged Countess from Spain to whom Leo is engaged. Did you miss her visit?

What I love is how AS keeps going on about how after the wedding, Leo will be the Conde de Valladolid. Um, I thought Maca's PARENTS were the Conde and Condesa of Valladolid. I'm not sure it's ever been stated whether Maca has a title of her own, or what sort of label Leo would get if they married. (if the story about her parents is even true, which is not at all certain!)

If her tales about her parents are true, they must be fascinating people. They spend an awful lot of time in remote areas where they don't have access to their bank accounts. Like Siberia, in winter. I forget where else.

Wikipedia (not necessarily reliable) says that in Italy, all the sons (but not daughters, it seems) of "certain counts" are themselves counts. That could explain why AS thinks Leo will be a count. Well, that and all the gin. I'm surprised she doesn't see pink elephants.

Ah! Thanks, Julie! I saw a little bit of Maca's visit.

All my sort-of knowledge about Spanish royalty comes from reading books by Aline, Countess of Romanones. They are fascinating and based on her real experiences as a spy. Anyway, she was an American lady who ended up marrying a Spanish count...but I don't think he was a count when they got married. Count of Romanones was his dad's title at the time and she and her husband didn't get that title until her father-in-law died. They had some other lesser title before that.

Leo becoming the Conde when he marries Maca? I don't think so--titles are usually passed by bloodline. A woman marrying a count would become a countess, but I don't think it works the other way. Her father, then brother, would be the counts. [Leo would remain a no-account!]

Lots of fun moments, most already mentioned. Loved Bambi's plush prison cell. I just hooted when Alejo asked who was next after Dumbo and Bambi, Simba? Bambi's skype with Alejo was fascinating.

As always, Mini and Mama bouncing lines off one another.

The family dinner, with AS learning to eat with her fingers and discovering the deliciousness of conchas dipped in coffee.

Guendy was in her element with a new guy (Saul) to flirt with. Saul was desperately discouraging the acquaintance. He didn't realize that you can't stop a force of nature like Guendy.

Vilma was fabulous trying out her smile in front of the mirror. She couldn't quite get it all together, but was a little heart-rending in her effort. I was almost expecting her to take out the hairclip and shake out her tresses. It would be interesting to see her lose the strait-laced image and give Alfonso a try.

Madelaine, I hope Mr. Mads' knee surgery went well and he is soon recovering.

La Paloma - love it: "Leo would remain a no-account!" That will most likely be the result.
The fact that we all care so much about the lives of Vilma, and Saul, to name a few, is an indication of how good this novela is. There are so many well-rounded characters. For this I thank the writers, the actors, and all those other folks I don't really know much about like the directors, etc. And, I thank again, all you faithful recappers and commentators who make this so much fun for the rest of us!

I just watched the episode and want to thank everyone for all the detail-filled comments.

Did I spy a copy of 50 Shades of Gray on Vilma's bedside table? LOL

Thought they probably aren't slated to be together, it was fun watching Güendy flirt and Saul squirm.

Bambi is fun to watch, too! I love his prison set up.
