Que pobres tan Ricos #99 May 23, 2014... pre-wedding jitters... One nervous groom, one proud mama, one miffed bride, two fake in-law thieves and two suspicous siblings, stir it all together, pour in baking pan and bake until Monday
School playground, Emi spots A-hole and runs to him. A-hole fakes happy to see him. Says Emi’s new shoes are ugly. Offers to buy him whatever tennis shoes he wants. Lupe not amused. That’s not how it is. A-hole argues his case. What’s the problem? Lupe says won’t allow him to buy expensive shoes for Emi. She lets Emi walk away with A-hole. A-hole takes jacket off to play with him. He is obviously not enjoying himself when Lupe is not looking.
Hacienda: AS, Leo and Frida arrive, the employee leads them around. MA arrives. Leo is eager to introduce MA to his new in-laws. AS and DaVinci are still wearing the matching gray outfits. AS criticizes MA’s outfit, even though he looks good. He says he has not much money, he bought the best he found at a second hand store. Frida says it might not look the best but they might not notice it. AS says our future depends on it. It is the end of one ‘world’ and the beginning of another.
Lupe says we gotta go. Emi asks A-hole when will see him again. A-hole says don’t get your mommy mad at you. Whenever you need you can call me. Emi says Lupe took his phone away. A-hole gives him a card to use to call him. Emi and A-hole walk back to Lupe. A-hole has a last gift for Emi. It is a playstation Vita.
At hacienda, the condes have arrived, AS says it is ‘our’ hacienda ‘our house is your house’. Maca introduces the ‘parents’ the ‘condes’. AS introduces her family. The bowing is significantly overdone by MA who almost puts his head on his knees. The ‘countess’ clarifies they should keep referring to them as ‘the countess’ . The count is not so demanding. Salomon interferes and gives the condes his business card ‘for whatever you might need’. They all go inside except AS and Salomon.
Back at Platano office, Trofeo and Nepo talk. Nepo has been looking through MA’s belongings… Trofeo says better pay more attention to your son. Nepo thinks he is suffering for una vieja (a girl). Trofeo warns him that DA might end up same as Nepo when Lupe sent him packing. Nepo shouts him away.
AS rants at Salomon. Orders him to take the condes belongings to their rooms. Salomon protests but gives in to AS puppy tone request… but he has to go to potty first. SA: ‘santa Madonna!’
The condes are walking around and the condesa has issues, it is not comparable to our castle but it will do. Leo calls for the servers to bring the champagne (saying ‘shampoo!’) for them all to toast to the couple. The conde toasts making them go the usual motion ‘arriba, abajo, al centro y pa’ dentro!!’
The mariachi arrived with Salomon shouting an intro… AS rants at him for bringing ‘naco and popular’ music to an elegant event like this. Conde is more into the music, says now he feels he ‘arrived at Mex’. The mariachi plays ‘la negra’
Back at Fonda, Lupe tells Chuy and Carm about A-hole visit with Emi and his gift for Emi as they all fix the food for the wedding.
Later the condes are doing small talk about their home town in Spain with the RPs. MA and Frida. They get to the subject of the family line of the condes… Maca interrupts giving some talky talky about older relatives… AS keeps commenting about both families will live happily ever after in Spain. The RP walk away and the condes and Maca comment… they are planning to live in Spain with us??? Maca says after the wedding they disappear. Both families toast again.
Gwendy and Saul are having diner at a restaurant… Saul clarifies to her that he is NOT gay.. he LOVES women. Gwendy : seeing is believing… Saul ready to prove his case. But wants to go to a more private place. More intimate. Gwendy very much willing. Grrrrrr… she grabs and squeezes his thigh and he puts a scared school kid face.
Back at hacienda, the small talk continues… The condesa continues her nagging about the lack of formality, AS says most guests and family will arrive tomorrow. Condesa talks about controlling the heavy drinking. AS says moderation is more distinguished, she seldom drinks much, except for special occasions like this. Condesa is ready to go to her rooms… Our children will sleep in separate rooms. We are very orthodox in our customs and values. AS agrees, our family is ‘la mar’ very conservative too. Condesa says AS should not use the ‘spanish like’ expressions like ‘la mar’. You should have your own ‘expressions’. Frida and MA start crossing notes and commenting that the attitudes from the condes are strange.
Gwendy and Saul continue eating… she mentions some places to have breakfast (anticipating the night long pow-wow). Saul says you are going way too fast… Gwendy says it was jus kiddin… I bark but don’t bite. Saul has a very worried worm in the hen house face. Gwendy says … honestly, you are not my type. (boy that was deflating!) I am a woman of only one man, even though that canijo won’t even turn to look at me. Saul tries to plead his case, but to no avail. Gwendy heads to ladies room ‘get the check’. Saul talks to himself that he is pathetic, he can’t even score with the stylist of La Nopalera.
At hacienda, AS tells Leo that she can’t stand his future mom in law. Leo says hang in there, you can tell how Lady D dealt with Queen Elizabeth.. Salomon comes in to ask for his pay. AS says hang on until tomorrow. Salomon kisses her hand and says only because it is for you. MA and Frida suggest to AS and Leo start asking the condes for the payment for all the wedding expenses. AS says we can’t pressure them so quickly… The only important thing is for my bambino to get married and we all move to Spain… Grazie Grazie Santa Maddonna!!
Condes in their bedroom, Maca is arguing with Condesa… Maca says Condesa is overdoing it in her treatment of the family and the house staff. Condesa whines back. Conde says they all bought the stories they have told them about the castles and Duquesa de Alba. Maca is miffed, she yells at them to hang in until tomorrow and then you just go away, I can’t stand it anymore!! Maca walks away, The condes say they will get a fortune stealing stuff from the hacienda… By the time Maca and the family realize the missing stuff, they will be enjoying the beach at Bahamas!!
At Fonda, the Menchacas are busy fixing the food… Even Mati is helping out… Chuy hides to try something from the trays. Lupe pulls his ears off… Lupe announces ‘we are done!!!’ they cheer ‘Los Menchaca!!!’
At Nepo’s he again talks to DA. What are you writing so much?? Nepo asks if this ‘chamaca’ is not corresponding to his feelings. DA says don’t worry about it, really. I will keep on working on it. Nepo tries to give him some unsolicited counseling. DA keeps brushing it off. Door bell rings, Nepo answers while DA whispers ‘I am saved!’…
At Fonda, Chuy had sent the young ones to go get some rest. Lupe wants CHuy to go rest too. Carm and Lupe will stay and finish. Lupe says you go rest, what if tomorrow we will be so exhausted that we forget something?? Lupe’s phone rings. Lupe sends Carm away. ‘How are you mi amor?? /Andale! I like you calling me that, I like it very much!’
Gwendy joins the counseling session trying to get DA to spill the beans. DA walks away, won’t give in. Nepo tells Gwendy that DA is really upset. Gwendy says it runs in the family lately. She restates that he should give up on Lupe. Nepo whines again. ‘Surely Silvestre Stall-o-ne is waiting for your bones.’ Gwendy is not amused.
Lupe still on phone with MA… Lupe thinks he is kidding, he swears it is true, you are the love of my life. Lupe asks how it went with the condes… strange folks. Different from the ones I met in London… Lupe says she is a bit nervous that they will like what the family fixed… MA says surely it is great. I have just been thinking about you all day… Ditto, says Lupe. The hours to see you again seem so loooooong…
Morning, Lupe and Carm admire all the food in the trays. They are dressed well, Lupe dressed in the waitress uniform, Carm has a better looking dress. Gwendy comes in and also looks decent but in her own style. Gwendy puts her fingers near the food and gets slap on wrist from Carm… Lupe says they will drop Emi off at school and then will head over to the hacienda. Lupe asks Carm to take Emi to Paco’s house when he is done at school. Carm says yeah I got that. Carm kids around trying to reach for food again but Lupe won’t let her. They laugh it off.
At hacienda, Leo wakes up and gets a look at the suit and feels like an instant migraine came on to him. AS comes in the room and urges him to put on the outfit. He says he is more nervous than a turkey on Thanksgiving… He says opcion A, they are broke… opcion B (he remembers how DA saved him from that thug in the street and when Leo gave DA some lessons on art appreciation and DA would just stare at him… then when DA gave him the anagram poem… then when they were walking on the steet and said goodbye shaking hands, then when DA asked Leo not to get married…) AS asks him to calm down… they are just holding a little detail from them, that they are broke… but if the condes are so rich, what does it matter? AS lays in the bed with Leo and they cuddle around a bit.
The Menchacas and Mati and Gwendy arrived at the hacienda. Start unloading the van. Carm had fixed a dress for Mati with one of her ‘house gowns’ with some material from AS’ furniture. Perla is dizy. Lupe and Chuy are worried about her.
(we have a commercial clip where apparently Gwendy straightened Lupe’s hair and Lupe slowly turns around, probably for letting MA look at her, she has makeup on and looks amazing.)
Gwendy is fixing AS hair, AS already has her dress on (the gold one) and Gwendy is complimenting her about it. You will look great!! (AS nags about Gwendy’s language) AS warns Gwendy to stay behind the curtain, and not to ask for having pictures taken with the counts… let alone tell them anything about our financial status or that we lived with the Menchacas… Gwendy says ok but I need to get paid for your style… AS again nags that they are materialistic… Leo comes in, looks great. AS is babbling for his looks. Always dreamed to see you like this, dressed as a groom. Leo is not so amused, he is rather anxious and nervous. Nags that his pants are a bit tight and he can’t sit.
MA comes to kitchen and gives Lupe a hug. They missed each other. MA has to go already. He has to head back to DF. Have to beat the guests getting here, so no one will have a chance to recognize him. Lupe keeps hugging him, won’t let him leave. Perla comes in. Perla says something about clapping, so Lupe and MA go on a clapping dance routine … whistling and all.
Outside, Frida runs into Tizoc, who brought his own date to the wedding. This really cheesy voice girl will be singing with him, they even give Frida a demo of the duet for ‘Ave Maria’. The girl leaves, Frida asks Tizoc whats up with her, Tizoc asks what is her problem with it. All you want is for everything to go well at your bro’s wedding…
Inside, Gwendy suggests to Leo to take a tea for his nerves. Leo is still very anxious. Gwendy mentions that DA is also very anxious and upset… unconsollable. Leo is very interested in hearing this. AS says no way you can compare the nerves of a futbol player of barrio with the future count of Valladolid. Gwendy totally ignores AS and keeps hugging Leo and trying to cheer him up… AS gets mad, wants Gwendy to put her hat on. Leo leaves, talks to a bottle, ‘to get married or not to get married, there is the question…. Option B, not to get married…’
Previews: VO: on Monday, everyone is invited to the wedding of the century!!
Everyone gets surprises at the wedding, even Mini discovers MA in the arms of Lupe. Leo sacred stiff. SHOULD BE MUST SEE TV!!!
I wonder what is going on with Jennifer and her baby... no mention at all of that tonight.

so much happened in this episode I'll comment more later.
But just had to say that I love all of Leo's lines. he had at least 3 funny ones that I picked up.
1. he was more nervous than a turkey on thanksgiving.
2. telling Gwendy that this model is NOT TOUCH (referring to himself) when Gwendy kept poking and hitting him.
3. saying that his heart would get a speeding ticket for beating too fast.
Thanks so very much for this awesome recap.
The part about the Duquesa of Alba, The Countess was saying they were related when in fact they are not. Maca had to do some backpedaling and that's why MA and Frida thought they were a little out there. Frida was the one that brought it up. Maca's excuse was they call her Tia even though this Duchess isn't related to them.
I am so glad that Mati finally has a dress to wear. Don't get me wrong I love her pink p.j.'s but this dress was wonderful.
That Countess of Nothing is way over the top. The Count is a hoot, and I loved that AS called for more elixir, too funny.
So will Leo really go thru with this wedding? I'm thinking he is gonna chicken out at some point. Instead of the runaway bride, it will be the runaway groom. Just a guess. He thought of all the great moments he had with Diego, it was a very sweet montage.
Those pills are affecting Perla. This is not good.
I hope Guendy comes out from behind the curtain and whoops it up. This wedding should be a hoot.
Thanks again Marta for the fabulous recap!
Madelaine, I agree with you that MA and Frida were on to something not being quite right when the count brings up the Duchess of Alba being his great aunt and then Maca jumping in and making that connection as vague as it could be.
Don Salomon didn't miss an opportunity for his business when he gave the count his business card.
I liked how AS batted her eyes and flirted with him to get him to unload Maca's family's luggage.
Guendy was prepared to touch up AS's makeup and hair. Instead of giving her the "manita de gato" (cat's little paw) (touch up) she is ready to give her a "garrita de tigre(tiger's little claw). I love the creative use of language in this novela.
The extremely uncomfortable almost embarrassed look on Guendy's face was priceless as she had to watch AS interact with Leo when she saw him in his wedding suit for the first time. Yikes!
Looks like Frida got more than she was asking for when she told Tizoc she wanted a "no strings" relationship.
It was nice that Carmelita could come up with a dress for doña Mati so she didn't have to come in her pink pajamas. Doña Mati is lucky to have MA and the Menchacas because I can't see her being taken anywhere by AS.
I loved Leonardo with his soliloquoy moment with the bottle/vase and deciding on not getting married. I wonder when and how he will make his move to call it all off.
Maybe AS and her brood haven't spent their last night with the Menchacas in La Nopalera after all.

.
You asked on yesterday's recap if Maca (Macarena) is rich. No, she isn't. She thinks that Leo and his family are very wealthy. She has no idea they are now poor. Leo and his family think Maca is rich. Maca's "parents" (The Count and Countess) are actors she hired to play her "parents". That's why Macarena is paying them, after she marries Leo that is. I hope this answers your question.
Loved your title too, so funny.
Jarifa:
"Garrita de tigre" is that like a whole makeover? I was laughing at that scene and then when I read what it meant, I laughed even harder. You always pick the best lines : )
Lots of good stuff... I love the No-Accounts. I had to chuckle that even Ana Sofia was turned of by the Ms Count.
I especially enjoyed watching Güendy slurp that oyster... Oh my! Be still my heart.
"Saul talks to himself that he is pathetic, he can’t even score with the stylist of La Nopalera.'
I'm sooo disappointed in him. That almost puts him into Alejo territory.
Carlos
So much to keep track of here, as we prepare for the wedding. Since it's such an elite event, we'll just have to hide in the background and peek around corners. No chairs for us.
With so many possible things to go wrong, on all sides, it's going to take concentration for Monday night. Smiling in anticipation (unlike Leo!).
Loved Leo's Hamlet soliloquy. Sounds like his tentative decision was not to marry, so I want to see how this goes down!
Also loved him saying to Guendy this model is not "touch", and his hiding under the comforter looking at the wedding clothes like they were a ghost haunting him.
Also loved Maca's aggravation with the Countess of Nothing. I don't know why either she or AS is worried about the behavior of their relatives being "right". Everyone knows that real rich people and/or royalty feel free to dress and behave as eccentrically as they please! "Acting" like a proper rich person is such an arriviste concern!
so funny an idea!! love it!! we'll all be the unnoticed uninvited guests to the wedding of the year!! and we get the 3rd party viewpoint (not that we can promise we would be neutral)... details, emotions, feelings... its all so much fun to pick on when you're just the 3rd party silent invisible guests...
Nice title t the recap too. I had the urge o finish the title off with "and a partridge and a pear tree" :-)
Ok, so they have the invitations ready one day before the wedding??!! And they expect any one to show up?
How will the wedding be?
Option A (swipes hand while making a phhht sound)
Maca and Leo get married and live poorly ever after
Option B
Maca discover that Leo and family are poor and drops him like a rock
Option C
Leo discovers tha count-ly con and drops Maca like a rock
Option D
Leo without knowing anything about Maca and the anti counts drops her like a rock simply because he realizes that he does not want to marry her.
Option E
Diego Armando swoops in riding a white stallion, proclaim his love for Leo and sweeps him of onto his horse riding into the sunset
Totally loved the way anticountess treated AS. Now AS knows what it feels like being at the receiving end of this verbal poison.
Will the anticount get away with the thievery?
How will they be umasked?
Option A (I am really liking this option A/B stuff!)
Some one will over hear them...
Option B
They'll look at the wedding invitation and not notice the upside down crest which will raise even more suspicions, especially with Miguel Angel and Fri.
Option C
MA already being suspicious asks them a trick question and they fall into it.
Option D
They don't get discovered at all, but everything is found out when the wedding is cancelled.
Looks like Monday will be an exciting day for this story, assuming that they don't delay the interesting parts with lots of unrelated back stories and repetitions.
Speaking of repetitions, is it just me or do they sometimes repeat the same scene twice? That is annoying!
best all!
Poor Saul, right when he's decided to lower his standards, she turns around and tells him he's not her type. Ouch.
Great lists Salvador Garcia.
I opt for the first option D. I think Leo will call off the wedding before he knows that Maca doesn't have any money. That way we and Diego will know that he called it off because he wanted to stay true to himself. And Leo will feel better about himself that way too. Then I think he will soon find out she has no money either, which is the second option D.
Then the next fun will be dealing with Ana Sofia. Her realization that she has to stay in porca miseria, she has to deal with her friends knowing that she's poor, and that she has to pay for everything. Can't wait for that.
I'm looking forward to reading this before I see tonight's episode, but honestly, you had me at the title. This wedding is like a cake, prepared with the most loving attention, with the finest and rarest ingredients, placed in a humidity-controlled oven with heat controls calibrated to 1/100s of a degree and automatic altitude compensation, with a timer synchronized to the US Naval Observatory Clock, with vibration damping all around to protect the delicate confection from shock as it rises, and...
Well, no. Actually it's a joke cake slapped together by desperate clowns. It is made out of bounced checks, lies, TNT, confetti, and killer bees. And it remains to be seen who gets the TNT, and who gets the killer bees.
Only Godzilla can save them now.
Salvador Garcia: It's not just you. Sometimes they'll show a scene (or a few) near the end of an episode that are repeated on the next night. (I'm not talking about the avances, but just regular scenes.) That's not so unusual, but what's REALLY irritating is when what we see on the first night is in a totally different context than what we see the next night.
Final snicker about Friday's episode: the Uncountables arguing Jamaica vs. Bahamas. I propose Opcion C: Madrid. Flying coach.
My guess is that the everyone is poor reveal and Leo's decision (or consequences thereof) are still not going to be shown tonight…but I'm excited and hoping!
