De Que Te Quiero Te Quiero 5/23/14 Episodes #64 and 65

De que se despertó el diablo, se despertó el diablo.

I didn't take any notes and I didn't pay close attention. I'll get up early tomorrow and write a recap for realz. Oh, and Diana was an angel compared to the new crop of demons.
  • Eleazar is going to invest his life savings in helping Carmen out. They are going to become business partners. They throw in some smoochies for good measure...but don't think they are officially off the ground yet. Be sure to see the scene where Abdul interrupts Eleazar's profession of love. Cynthia and Marcelo are masterful. Holy crap I love watching these two consummate actors.
  • Rodrigo is awake and despite a few flubs, he's passing himself off as Diego (albeit a Diego that is behaving oddly.) And he's going to be wreaking havoc. He plans to empty Diego's bank accounts and take Natalia's virginity. While he waits for Nat, he'll be getting his nookie from Brigitte and Irma.
  • Speaking of Irma, she warns Rod that there are grave consequences to keeping Diego in a coma too long. One of which is permanent amnesia. Rod doesn't give hoot. He figures that will even things up after losing two years of his life. Irma has to give Diego an extra dose since the drug doesn't seem to keep Diego in a very deep coma. Rod wants her to do something and he'll pay her well for it. He tells her to open and account so he can make the transfer. This is the second time a character has had to open an account. Chato took Lupita to a bank. I bet a bank is the product placement.
  • "Diego" tries to convince Vicente to pull the plug on "Rodrigo." Vicente doesn't want to. Thank heaven.

  • Paolo gets fired from Burger Rex after an altercation with some terribly rude customers. They trip him and say bleepable things. Paolo fights back. I hate to assume, but thanks to editing I have to assume this causes some sketchy behavior at home. I assume while he looks for a new job, he doesn't say anything about being fired and his odd behavior causes Eleazar to invite him and Abdul out for a night on the town. Carmen is not happy about that and when they get home she is mad. Padre Juancho makes a hasty exit and Eleazar asks begs him not to leave him alone with an angry Carmen. I assume that while they are out, a lady friend comes on strong. I assume that Paolo rejects her advances. I know for sure that Paolo has been keeping his relationship with Mara under wraps which is why Eleazar concludes that Paolo is gay and tells Carmen this.
  • Tadeo asks Irene to go back to Mexico. They have a sweet conversation. She tells him he taught her so much about art and seeing art everywhere. He wishes he had taken her to Paris with him.
  • Brigitte and Karina are besties. They gossip about Alonso's relationship with the "ancient" Irene. Brigitte encourages Karina to keep working on Alonso. Karina goes to Alonso's and is promptly kicked to the curb. Seriously, he can't make it any more clear that he is NOT interested. She's making Nepo look like a genius. She pretends to fall down the stairs and fakes a head injury and manages to convince a highly reluctant Alonso to let her stay the night on the couch. When she thinks he's asleep she tries to sneak into his bedroom, but he locked the door. HA! The next morning while Alonso showers, Irene has arrived from New York rings Alonso's doorbell. Karina answers the door looking muy sexy and Irene jumps to the completely wrong conclusion. Karina calls and reports these developments to Brigitte. When Irene arrives at Caprico/Eskenda Brigitte makes sure Irene overhears her telling Karina not to tell her such personal things and that Alonso must be quite the lover."
  • Rod makes Natalia feel like crap for not putting out. He tells her not to complain when he goes looking for what he needs with someone else. Natalia feels more and more guilty and according to the avances, she's going to cave.
  • Andres is heading back to Tuxpan. Rod still thinks Diego was the one who put him in the coma. With Andres far away, there's no chance of Rod running into him and having his memory jogged. Yay. -_-
  • Alberto makes up with "Diego". "Diego" makes some comment that Alberto says only Rod would say.
  • Angela gives Natalia another card reading. Diego is in dire trouble. It's like there is really bad mojo surrounding him. Natalia thinks he's been a little odd, but things aren't as serious as that. Even Angela is confused and thinks it's almost as if she were reading the cards of a past life since the cards don't match the present happenings.
  • The episode ends with Natalia agreeing to sleep with "Diego." He tries to get busy right there in the office. Natalia agrees to see him later that night.

I fear I must yet again whine about the editing. How does Univision expect ratings to go up if they make it impossible for folks to come to the party late? I've been here since the first episode and sometimes I feel a little confused. What is it like for someone just tuning in?

I'll cook it upper better tomorrow. Pardon my holganzería.

Gracias, Sara! You do what you can do. Your dedication to the arduous task at hand is not in question. The dedication of the editing monkeys...now, that's different! Are they trying to confuse us? The bits you've had to piece together from the conversations people are having tonight sound about like what I had surmised as well, but what a pain to have to reconstruct things like that!

As I commented to Mr. 5ft...Rodrigo tries to pretend to be Diego and EVERYBODY notices that there's something a little off about him except Brigitte. Because in her twisted little head, she and Diego were always going to hook up on the fabric samples in the workroom.

I agree about Cynthia and Marcelo's job of acting when Abdul interrupts them. So cute!

May I suggest that we not worry too much about our episode numbers matching the original numbers as they aired in Mexico and just keep on numbering as we've been? Perhaps other people would like to chime in about whether they find the numbering helpful at all or if the date is sufficient? And if you do find numbering helpful, which numbers...the episode numbers in Mexico, the episode numbers assigned by OnDemand, something else?

Sara thanks for being a trooper with an unfortunate episode. I dread this unfortunate part of the tn. I'm w/Kat do what you can but it is an arduous task trying to determine what was edited.

Kat, we can expect nothing less than the Brat believing her own deep connection w/her and Diego. And ITA w/you about the episode numbers. As long as we list the date and the US numbers, we have bloggers like JoseAngel who let us know the Mexican episode numbers.

I went back and added the episode numbers (64 and 65.) I don't really pay attention to episode numbers since I am watching as they air, but I'm sure they are helpful if someone is watching online or elsewhere long after the show has ended.

Wuss Alert! I had to stop watching after the first hour. So vile what was happening! I hate Rodrigo moving in on poor innocent Natalia. Everything that happened last night was awful. El and Carmen are burning and yearning but not actually getting together. And the bad guys are gaining ground rapidly.
But I LOVE YOUR RECAP JUST AS IT IS. No need to add anything Sara. You're always funny and right on the money. Sit back and enjoy the weekend, lady!

Sara, your astute "Oh and Diana was an angel compared to the new crop of demons" was perceptive and perfect.

You captured the depressing events with clarity and acccuracy. You did an amazing job.

"I bet a bank is the product placement" made me laugh - not an easy feat considering the loathsome events.

It was beyond frustrating that Rod's behavior and out of character words did not trigger some dire warning in Nat. As you noted Kat, everyone is noticing something but Nat has not figured out she is dealing with two people a true Jekyll and Hyde!

I hate how Brig is playing Al who deserves so much better. That said, my worry is primarily reserved for Diego and Nat. It would be horrid if Rod seduces her.

Like Karen and Judy, I'm so unhappy with this nefarious storyline.

Appreciate your slogging through these edited episodes to give us these wonderful summaries. Thanks to all our marvelous recappers.

Diana

Thanks Kat, Karen, JudyB and Diana.

Nat would probably be more alarmed about this odd turn in Diego, but she's convinced herself that Diego has suffered trauma (due to Andres' defense) and has no memory of what happened.

Even if he didn't remember, shouldn't she be concerned about that side of him? She is, but apparently not enough to reject him. Of course, she had no idea about the twin and Diego has no idea about the attempted rape.

I love this show but those are two things that require Herculean beanie adjustments. Seriously.

Oh Diana, I miss you so. Your machinations were like child's play. I miss your one-dimensional villainy. Your romps with Sexter were like subtle comedy. Your self-centered chats with Karina were a cool breeze on a summer's day.

In today's episode of Beat the Dead Horse...

*Sara complains that Univison is a tease. They let her watch almost 40 unedited episodes and then bring out the scissors. She's in too deep to quit now. (They did this on PSMA, too. If they would just edit from week one, then I could bail immediately.

*Sara continues to whine that if they wouldn't edit the nice stuff (Paolo, Abdul) then the bad stuff might be a little easier to stomach. (Again, with PSMA we were left with almost pure evil.)

OT: Hulu+ has now made all the episodes of MariMar, Maria Mercedes and Maria la del Barrio available. While they may not be the best, I hope this means more "classic" TNs will be available. They did a terrible job on the DVDs for those shows. Watching just the first episode of MariMar has made CI look even worse than it did before.

I don't understand the hand wringing decision process for "unplugging" Rod, and now Diego. Both are (or were) on nasal cannulas. There's nothing to unplug. They are not on mechanical respirators.

I enjoyed your recap very much, Sara, and admire all of you recappers dealing with these marathon episodes.

David

Welcome, David! I don't believe we've "met." Thanks for commenting and I hope we'll here more from you. Especially if we are going to get such beauties like:

I don't understand the hand wringing decision process for "unplugging" Rod, and now Diego. Both are (or were) on nasal cannulas. There's nothing to unplug. They are not on mechanical respirators.

I've been thinking the same for a while. What's to unplug? LOL. And maybe you can answer this one for me:

Are all coma patients on respirators? Are there cases where one can be in a coma and NOT be on a respirator? This story line has made me very coma curious.

The exit of Andres adds another wrinkle: Rod still things Diego was the one who put him in the coma. With Andres far away, there's no chance of Rod running into him and having his memory jogged.

Hmm. That should go in the recap.

Tks so much Sara

First time in the history of novelas, a door is locked. Good for Alonso, but pobrecito got screwed anyway. Why didn't he call a cab or Mex 911 to take her to the hospital.

Wouldn't it be good if they did unplug Diego, then he could recover from coma drugs. Vicente should suspect sth. "Diego" in Rod's bedroom & all of a sudden wants to unplug "Rod" when he never wanted to before.

According to telenovela world, last night was 69 & 70, that would be the Mex count.

At least Alberto suspects something.

Lol@JudyB...it did get rather dark all of a sudden, didn't it! I can only hope this won't last too long, since Irma is having trouble keeping him under and doesn't want to kill him with an overdose.

Sara, I'm with you...cut the bad stuff and let us keep the good! Whatever is going on with Paolo would be SO much easier to understand. Like why he was worried that Mara's mom would be calling his cell phone, or what the guys at Burger Rex were saying that had to be bleeped, and why Paolo reacted like that when he's usually so chill, etc. etc. I'd rather know about that than watch Rod and Irma rolling around in the sheets--as if we didn't know that's what he had in mind!

David, that's a good point. Every time Rod used to get up and disconnect himself, it was from the oxygen and the machines that were (allegedly) monitoring him. He's supposed to have an IV, though, for drugs and probably for nutrients, but once he came out of the coma, that started getting glossed over. And no one ever noticed that his vital signs just stopped completely for several hours at a time...hmmmm....

Thanks, Sara. The actor is doing a good job of playing the smarmy twin. I hope that he doesn't get a chance to sleep with Nat. I still haven't gotten over the Siempre storyline of the father and son having the same novia.

I still can't figure out why Diana was killed off so early in the novela. Well, it looks as though Brat and Karina are filling in the evil void created by her death. I kind of miss her crazy Hissyfits.

Thanks, Vario and Susanlynn.

Vario- thanks for the episode count. I kind of wish they would "unplug" the patient as well.

Kat- When I was watching Friday it did feel an awful lot like the punks harassing Paolo had been up to it for quite a while. The editing made it seem like a one time thing. Heck, I almost wondered if the boss put them up to it hoping it would cause a fight so he could fire Paolo. And yes, why did Paolo think Mara's mother would be calling his phone?

I will also be annoyed if they cut the Mara storyline because while I normally don't like PSA type storylines, having a story about how to deal with child abuse is important.

Susanlynn-It did seem early to get rid of Diana. Didn't the same thing happen to Emeralda Pimentel's character in AdP? Kenia wasn't around for very long. And JDC is doing a good job as evil twin. A little too good. I hope this doesn't go on for very long.

Hi All,

FYI - No spoilers, I promise. I took a look at the Wikipedia list of DQTQTQ episode titles and I'm pretty sure Univision only started chopping up episodes this Monday. And this week they very consistently gave us three chopped episodes per night. So we went from #55 at end of last Friday to #70 at end of this Friday. We have 4 weeks until La Gata premieres at 8pm, so I'm guessing in those 4 weeks Uni will air another 60 chopped episodes, bringing us to #130. DQTQTQ has a total of 185 plus 2-hour finale. So, with only 57 episodes left when La Gata starts, my guess is that when DQTQTQ returns to 1-hour nights, Uni will say it is in "Ultimas Semanas" (six weeks) and will give us 2 chopped episodes per night during those six weeks until it ends. Sigh.

LatinaInMD

Oh, I watched #60 online this morning and saw Diana's final resting place, which Uni edited out. Her mom shows up at the airport with Diana's urn and is told she will need a customs permit to travel with it, and that she must board her flight in just 1/2 hour. She is also told the customs office is outside the airport. My guess was that she would walk outside, fall and spill Diana's remains. But instead the mom goes to a public restroom, tells Diana's remains that "life must go on" and leaves the urn on the floor under the sink. Problem solved. Momma has her priorities straight!!!! lol

LatinaInMD

Wow, LatinaInMD. That's insane, but I'm not surprised at all that Uni wants to get finished with DQTQTQ so fast. If it had huge ratings, they wouldn't mess with it.

If they get through it that fast, it will be sad. This is one that I really wanted to see. Why couldn't they have just done two-hour, unedited episodes in place of Destilando Amor??

That seems like a very sad end for Diana. I know she was evil, but still.

Possibly that offed Diana so soon is because she had to start work on El color de la pasión, which starts after DQTQTQ.

Diana's departure in episode #60 of DQTQTQ was NOT due to Esmeralda Pimentel's starring role in El Color De La Pasion. Episode #60 of DQTQTQ aired in Mexico on September 20, 2013, according to its Wikipedia page. ECDLP did not begin production until February 4, 2014, according to news articles linked to its own Wikipedia page. I think Diana died exactly when she was scheduled by the writers to die, to make way for the awakening of Rodrigo and his evil plots. Diana would never have fallen for Rodrigo passing himself off as Diego, so she had to disappear from the story.
