TELEMUNDO Y MÁS: THE FRONT PAGE -- En Otra Piel, et cetera, week of May 26, 2014

Tonight Telemundo is dedicating its primetime slot to getting everyone hyped up about the Tuesday premiere of El Señor de los Cielos 2, which replaces Camelia.  That means fans of En Otra Piel (and La Impostora) will have to wait until Tuesday for their next novela fix. (Not that these shows are addictive or anything...)

El Señor

I finally watched the Friday "secret episode" yesterday and have some thoughts.

Amaya was terrific in the first go-round. I can't decide if it's just me or was he seriously overacting in the episode I saw. His norteño accent seemed somewhat overdone as well.

I can understand why Telemundo would go for another series about this. I'm sure they expect a bonanza of both folks who saw it the first time and newbies.

I also had a thought, maybe unwarranted. During most of the earlier novela Turco was a pretty nice guy, even though he was involved with an evil organization. But right at the end, when he was installed in the witness protection program in the US, he did some bad things. He shot a loyal guy who helped him get Aurelio's money. And he threatened Rutila. My suspicions are that at this point they'd decided on a sequel and wanted to muddy him up a bit so we wouldn't feel so bad when Aurelio goes after him.

And, does anyone remember? Is this the second guy he killed over the money? Or were they just re-showing the killing of the same guy. The guy in Friday's episode looked different to me.

Who's going to be watching? Anyone planning recaps?

I hate these narco dramas that Televisa is so fond of and I read that they are already planning a third installment of this one.

El Señor

@Anon 4:24 pm, you said you hate Televisa's narco dramas. Televisa Studios does the Univisión programming. The newest narco offering is going to be on Telemundo.

El Señor:

Maybe the Gran Estreno is tonight, Monday. I think that's what the telemundo site says. But I could be wrong.

Novelera, ITA about Turco's change. And I think the guy he killed in the secret episode was different from the other one, so he's killed two now. Besides that, he's lying to his wife, and of course that's even WORSE than murdering a witness, right? :)

I'm going to be watching, but I don't think I'll be able to recap on any kind of regular basis.

I like the narco novelas. One certainly can't accuse the writers of glorifying Aurelio Casillas, he's a monster.

BTW, do we think Marco is really dead?

El Señor

I'm leaning toward Mejía really being dead. I saw some of the ubiquitous promos for the sequel and I don't remember seeing Gabriel Porros in any of them. Maybe he has a role coming up in another novela. I think they're going with Leonor Ballesteros being the "good guy".

We also got a look at Chema Venegas and the undercover guy he has in the DEA.

I'm probably going to watch, especially since my Spanish class is on hiatus for the summer and I have one extra night a week to catch up!

The intriguing thing will be about Aurelio's plans to get his wife and children back. I'm sure he just plans to punish her and won't kill her because of the children. But she'll surely be a prisoner.

La Impostora may not be addictive but En Otra Piel may start to heat up now that Monica knows the truth about everything Elena and Gerardo have done and has vowed revenge on them.

And as hot as I think Rafael Amaya is, I'm not up to yet ANOTHER narco-drama. Besides I'm trying to keep up with two Univision novelas and now two on Telemundo (well, 1 1/2 since I'm not really keeping up with La Impostora until Raquel's world starts to unravel and she gets what's coming to her).

El Señor

I watched the first episode, and I suppose I'll continue to watch for a while. However, I was depressed by the amount of slang I didn't understand (even more than I recall not understanding in El Señor 1), and I'm not sure I'll see it through to the end.

I'm confused on whether Marco Mejia is dead or not because in the secret episode, Leo indicated that he was on vacation.

I think the problem with EL Senor is that there are
no really likable or lovable characters like there were in
Camelia. In the former I "loved" many of tbe characters,
even though many of them were criminals. Antonio,
El Alacran, Camelia, Facundo, Mireya, and Rosaura come to mind.

-VRO ^^

El Señor:

I would say Marco is definitely dead. So we have Leonor and Ponte as good guys, and the President is good, too. As for interesting bad guys, well Tijeras and Cabo are both fun (good for some laughs). Ximena is good, of course. And I think they're going to introduce some new characters.

It sure must be tough being a kid when your father tells you not to tell your mother that your father is alive! But now that Turco is being held by Aurelio, I doubt Aurelio can keep the fact that he's alive secret much longer.

I think AC was trying to keep the fact that he is alive as a secret from Turco more than Ximena so he can capture him successfully.

-VRO

EL SEÑOR

I can't remember whether I read this or if it was in the La Sombra del Narco special they showed. [OK, I confess to having watched the whole extravaganza last night.] But I think I gleaned that perhaps the Chema Venegas character might represent El Chapo Guzman, recently captured in México.

I was struck by the fact that the little girl playing Rutila didn't look like the same girl. Not that unusual if she were older. The baby was now toddling around, so some time had passed, but Rutila looked younger to me than she did in Señor #1.

Wow, the relationship between Chacorta and Heriberto is toxic! They're both stuck, though, because Aurelio would not forgive either one killing the other. I'm wondering if Aurelio even knows about his brother killing the poor girl. If my memory serves, he DID know about Heriberto and Mathilde.

EL SEÑOR

Only saw bits of this last night, so I will have to go back to watch my recording. I'm still not sure how much time I'll commit to watching this, or how I feel about them coming back for a second season. But I would like to see some of these storylines wrapped up a bit more tidily than the finale left things. I am still mad about what a lame finale they did (but obviously it was because they were setting up a sequel).

Novelera- They used a different actress to play Rutila. Your eyes weren't deceiving you. That means they had to re-film some of those scenes that were in the finale.

I liked Ximena until she said something to the effect that
she didn't care if they sold drugs to "the gringos" but
didn't like it when they sold to their own people. If I'm
wrong about that, she goes back in my like column.

El Senor

I vote for Marco to be alive, only because everyone else, so why not him?

Aurelio: not dead
Turco: not dead (yet)
Secret woman in the butcher's lair that I'm really hoping is Monica (and didn't they say something about Monica's body being missing?): not dead, or zombie
Marco: probably not dead

I don't think Aurelio knows yet about Raquel. Even Matilde just found out, and Aurelio's been a little busy to worry about things in Mexico.

So we're off to a horribly violent start. I just hope Cabo is ok. There's someone to root for!

Kelly

EL SEÑOR

Dixie- The "don't sell to your own people" was the code Ximena was raised with. That's what her dad, the marijuana drug lord, taught her. It was one of the main things he and Aurelio disagreed about. This is the world she was raised in, and I give her a pass as much as some of the other "good" people caught up in this but who didn't really have a choice in the matter. She wants a totally different life for her daughters so that they don't grow up like her. Remember how badly she wanted her son to go to college, get the education she never got, and to get out of the life completely. I admire that she's trying to make sure her daughters are not a part of that life. Of course, the audience knows what she doesn't-- that her current husband is still neck deep in "the life", and that her old husband is still around, and they will BOTH drag her and her girls back into this mess.

EN OTRA PIEL – VIERNES

We didn’t have a recap for Friday and it seems like a long time because of no Monday show, so I decided to do a brief Friday one before the Tuesday I promised.

Mondriana finishes up playing sobbing, while we see the whole household roused at the sound of the piano. Elena snaps at everyone. Her mask is dropping more every day. She insists everyone look for the recorder that must be hidden

El Chalado and his gang show up at Lupe’s and the two gangs confront each other. Lupe forces Gabe to stay inside so he won’t be hurt.

Gerardo seems ready to accept that Mónica’s ghost may have been playing the piano. She grills him about why he’s still dressed and not in his jammies, and even tries to smell his shirt. Ew.

The two gangs start fighting but Martín shows up, fires a gun into the air and stops it. He lies and says he took Jennifer to the bus station so she could go be with her estranged family.

Elena comes to her usual conclusion: it had to be Mondriana who played the recording. She storms over to the Guest House in the middle of the night. No Mondi. She starts opening drawers and raving. Gerardo calms her by telling her he’ll spend the night with her. We see some eye rolls over her shoulder.

Selma talks to Esteban’s ashes. She wants him to come back like Mónica did. A very touching scene.

Mondriana spends the night in the secret room – in a bed we didn’t see there before!

Rodrigo is still depressed about the book store and mentions looking for work as a bartender. Ricardo objects and says he’ll find something – even if it’s not in the legal field.

Emiliana insists at the breakfast table that her mother paid them a visit.

Marta has decided to bring Jennifer to the house as extra help.

Martín is up to something. At his shop he has Diego disassemble the motor of a brand new car. Diego follows orders, but can’t believe it. We also see him talking with the El Chalado gang about someone requesting certain cars or trucks. I think they’re stealing them and Martín runs a chop shop. Sad.

Carlos says he’s going to get Pachuco hired as a driver. They’ll have him drive wine to Mexico and bring back kidnapped girls in a hidden part of the truck. No one will search a Larrea truck.

Elena tells Gerardo she’s going to fire Mondriana and says she bets all the weird things will stop.

Mondriana visits Mónica’s grave and swears to make the killers pay.

EN OTRA PIEL – MARTES – Part 1

Mondriana is at her grave (that of Mónica Serrano) thanking God for giving her a chance to come back and know what happened. She swears vengeance. Selma arrives asking why Mondriana wanted to meet at the gravesite. Mondriana: “I discovered everything. Elena and Gerardo murdered me!”

Elena continues ragging on Gerardo about defending the governess. He tries to generalize, telling her they’ll end up with no staff at all. He tells her she has a problem with everyone: Gabriel, Ricardo, Marta, Vicki, and now Mónica. She rants that she’ll hire all new people, loyal to her. He tells her she soon won’t trust them either. She’s acting paranoid. She says she’s never trusted Mónica and thinks she’s hiding something behind that sweet face.

Mondriana tells Selma she remembered the last moments of her life, and the voice she heard threatening her daughters was Elena’s. She tells Selma she was injected, was unable to breathe, but heard what Elena said. Selma wonders if it could be a false memory. Mondriana says she’s sure Elena killed her in cold blood and wasn’t even content with that. While she was dying Elena confessed that she hated her aunt her whole life, that she loved Gerardo, and the last thing she said before Mónica left her body was that she would also take care of Camila and Emiliana.

Selma asks how she happened to remember this. Mondriana tells her that she overheard Elena reminding Gerardo that she’d killed Mónica. She also tells Selma she saw them exchanging brutal, passionate kisses, like animals.

Gerardo and Elena continue to argue. Gerardo suggests it might have been Emiliana who played the music. Elena jumps up: “That kid is going to get a piece of my mind!” Gerardo stops her and asks what happened to that clever woman who thought before she acted. Just then Marta knocks, enters and wants to speak to them. She asks if it’s all right to hire someone else because Vicki is not yet able to work. Elena starts to disagree, but Gerardo talks right over her and tells Marta to go ahead and do it. After he leaves Elena snarls at Marta to be sure she doesn’t hire someone lazy like the rest of them. Charming.

Back in the barrio, Rodrigo is falling apart. He’s resentful toward Gabriel. When Gabe asks about a For Rent sign he saw in the front, Rod says he’s renting out the bookstore space. He yells about all the books being destroyed and takes a pull from a bottle.

Anselmo tries to make peace with Diego about the scene at the pensión, but Diego tells him that all the gang guys care about is machismo. Anselmo insists they protect the folks in the neighborhood, but Diego says they are only marking their territory. He tells Anselmo that he likes him and doesn’t think he’ll get any answers to life being in a gang. Anselmo asks him to ask Maite not to be angry with him.

Mondriana asks why she couldn’t see what a beast Elena is. She starts to berate herself for traveling so much. She says everything is her fault, and it’s no wonder Camila hates her. Then she cries out to Selma: “How could she kill me after everything I did for her?” Selma replies that some people are just bad. Mondriana says that what’s inside Elena is worse than bad. It’s hate. It’s pleasure in hating. It’s pleasure in killing. It’s passing all limits to get money. She’s sick with power.

EN OTRA PIEL – MARTES – Part 2

Back at Rod’s, Gabriel reminds his fathr that he promised their mother and them that he wouldn’t drink any more. Rod says he’s broken promises before. He rehashes the stolen screenplay story again, says he ended up without Marta, and now he’s lost the bookstore. He might as well drink, he says; he has nothing to lose. He’s completely maudlin and strikes Gabriel when he tries to grab the bottle. Then he apologizes and throws the bottle against the wall.

Susana tells Marta in the kitchen that maybe Vicki is right that Mónica isn’t resting easy in her grave. Sourpuss comes in and says that it may be true. Her mother may not be resting in peace for having left her daughters in the street and giving everything to a new husband. [OK, Sourpuss, I think what you need is a few nights sleeping under a cardboard refrigerator box under a freeway overpass to get you thinking about saying you’re in the street.]

Mondriana tells Selma that Gerardo was in on it from the beginning. Elena introduced them just so she’d fall in love with him. She says she probably did write the awful will. She’s the one who made Camila hate her. She would be content with paying with her life for her own stupidity, but she dragged her daughters down as well. [OK. Enough with the self-loathing, Mondi!] She says she knows this is why she returned, for this.

Jorge has come to take Lorena to evaluate a place for rehab. She says she’s too rattled to do it. She tells him about the piano playing and wonders out loud if her sister could have returned. Jorge gets a pensive look on his face and says it might be true.

Still drowning in self-pity, Rodrigo tells Gabe that he and that girl took away what he had. Gabriel is upset and says he’s getting the blame for what the gang did. Gabe vows to get the money to his father, one way or another. As he leaves he says he can see why his mother left him.

Carlos/Raúl wants to talk something over with Elena. She’s in a foul mood and practically bites his head off. He is asking about a truck-driving job for El Pachuco. He tells her EP has seen the error of his ways and wants to go straight.

Gerardo keeps calling Mondriana on her cell. She makes a face at the phone and tells Selma he isn’t content having Elena but also wants to make promises of love to her. Selma wonders out loud if maybe he’s planning to do to Elena the same thing he did to Mónica Serrano. Mondriana says he hasn’t said anything like that. He thinks she doesn’t know about his relationship with Elena. She also doesn’t think he plans to leave Elena alive because if he betrayed her, she’d make him pay.

Selma suggests that maybe Gerardo’s obsession with her might get him to dump the false will. Mondi says she can’t wait to see their faces when she tells them she’s come back to sink them. Selma is alarmed. “You’re thinking of confronting them? You’re scaring me.” Mondriana tells her that Mónica Serrano did not die when she was injected by Elena. The woman she was, the woman who believed in the nobility of people, who lived for art, died today. She says that they had no compassion for her and she will have none for them. She’s going to pay them back for every betrayal, every act of hatred, every tear that her daughters shed. She says she’s going to destroy them both. It will be a slow and painful vengeance.

EN OTRA PIEL – MARTES – Part 3

Selma tells her this isn’t like her. Mondriana says she already stole a body from Adriana Aguilar. Selma: “But what if Adriana returns to her body and finds herself in jail for something she didn’t do?” Mondriana insists Adriana won’t pay. She plans to do it all so perfectly that Adriana will be able to return to her life free of any harm. Selma seems to think she’ll be able to talk Mondriana out of this plan. I don’t think so.

Elena just laughs in Carlos’ face about El Pachuco going straight. He changes his story and says that EP has a woman in Mexico and he wants to be able to go back and forth and visit her. She agrees to giving him the job, but tells him not to tell Gerardo about it.

Eileen and Valeria come to visit Jennifer and Doña Lupe in one of the only light moments in the show. When Eileen hears about the gang trouble, she says it sounds like West Side Story. Maite: “What??’

Ricardo comes to the hospital looking for work, but the ambulance driver and office clerk positions were filled. What’s left is a cleaning job. We see him a while later pushing a cleaning cart through the hospital corridor. [Should we place bets on how long it will take Camila to see him in his new job? One episode? Three?]

In her office Camila remembers the reading of the will and makes a sour remark about her mother not being at peace. She leaves, and on her way out Carlos compliments her dress, saying it makes her look less like a girl and more like a woman. Camila: “Don’t speak to me that way!” She tells him that she will be respected and stalks out. She then goes right in to Gerardo’s office to yell at him for hiring such a disgusting person. She tells him he’s doing dumb things to the company her father built. She orders him to keep Carlos away from her.

Selma and Mondriana are still talking. Selma is urging justice, not vengeance. She says that they probably falsified the will and Figueroa helped them. She says Mondi should find proof. Mondriana tells her that the lawyer, Munguía, had proof and they killed him because of it. Selma gasps. Mondi says she thinks there are even more that they’ve killed.

Gabriel is telling his mother, at Casa Serrano, how his father blames him for the bookstore. She says she doesn’t think Rodrigo will recover from the loss of the bookstores. When Gabriel says he understands why his mother left Rodrigo, Marta says that he’s a good man. But he doesn’t know how to cope when things go badly. Later, when Gabriel goes home, we get the feeling that someone is following him. Uh oh!

Gerardo gets a text that makes him smile. Elena hears the piano in her mind. Ernesto has arrived and makes a bad joke about the piano playing. She asks him what he’s there for. He says he has something to tell her. She has a person near to her who isn’t who they say they are. [Gulp! I’m starting to worry about Mondi] But then he goes on to say that Raúl Camacho is really Carlos Ricalde.

Gerardo is walking past the pool. We see Mondriana open up her robe, and get into the pool naked. She then gives him a come-hither look. Oh boy!

OMG, Novelera, I came to CarayCaray to take a quick look to see whether there were any new comments, and I found your wonderful recaps from Friday and Tuesday. They're great. I don't have time to comment now, but I did want to say Muchísimas gracias. Tengo que irme. More later.

EL SEÑOR:

They sure aren't wasting time with the exciting events on this one. One episode and Cabo is free. And we find that Monica is alive! Chema is playing both sides, I can't tell if he's really backing the Colombians or not. Lai (sister of Oscar from the old show, who was Cabo and Tijeras' boss) is a new wild card. Matilde sure knows how to live dangerously. And now it's time for the Casillas boys to rescue their mom!

Does anyone know the name of that mean Colonel, who's telling Leo she has to go back to Colombia?

En Otra Piel

thanks so much novelera.
terrific recap!
and thanks for throwing in some things from Friday.

when Monica threw in the death of the lawyer, I thought they might go to the next step, that Esteban was murdered, but no, not yet, as Selma will probably go nuts as well when she finds out,

since no one has said anything, I'm guessing that the check to pay for Ricardo's final year of school went to pay Rodrigo's hospital bill, and is all gone, so yes, Ricardo needs to get off his high horse and start plotting out a new future.

so the game plan is vengeance, not justice, well this doesn't always work out so well.
(this reminds me a little of "la Impostora" where the leading lady has become 'toxic' to everyone around her)

En Otra Piel:
Super recap, Novelera, with a Friday bonus.
How many times have we seen novela characters swear to exact vengeance while their friends tell them that is a bad idea? We'll see how Mondriana does. I am sure that there is a copy of her original will in the safe in the secret room (why does it have a bed in it?). I wish Mondriana would find it already.

It's funny that Eileen mentioned West Side Story. I still think that Jennifer is going to end up dead as a result of gang violence and Gabriel will get together with someone else. I first suspected it would be Valeria but I'm now thinking it might be Emiliana. She has a crush on him.

En Otra Piel

I have never posted on the boards before but just wanted to pop in and give a huge THANK YOU to everyone recapping or commenting on this TN. I am addicted to this TN but don't speak Spanish so the recaps and comments are much appreciated.

Looks like things are about to get exciting. I have been glued to my couch for the last 2 or 3 episodes.

El señor

I didn't know it started Mon so just caught up.
Aurelio is sure pissed at Turco as we knew he would be. They caught Turco & Aurelio chopped off his right hand & was about to castrate him when he got a call. Turco killed one of his guards with his handy cane & bribed the other with 2 mil.Next we see him in the house with Ximena but they better get the hell out of there.

Wiki shows the cast & the ones retuning, Marco is shown as returning. Monica is alive, anyone know who the woman is that is held captive with her?

EN OTRA PIEL

Welcome Anonymous at 12:36 pm. We appreciate your kind words.

If you plan to comment regularly, it would be great if you put a name or pseudonym in your comment so we'd get to know you.

Jean, I agree about the will. I was so frustrated when Mondi was on her rant beating herself up and assuming she actually wrote the crappy will. When is she going to find it? It has to be in the safe. She went in there to get the dije but hasn't opened it since that I remember.

Ah, memory failure. Does she have the dije or did Esteban still have it?

El Señor

Variopinta, I also peeked at the Wiki, sometimes a dangerous thing to do as you can see spoilers.

What I thought about their showing Marco as being in the novela second season is that he is shown being shot at the beginning. If he's alive, it doesn't seem like Leonor knows it. She's hell-bent on avenging him.

Did I drop off to sleep? I kept expecting Turco to use that blade in his cane, but I don't remember their showing it. The last thing I saw was his limping toward the cane and their showing the face of the thug/guard who looked like he was weakening about the $2 million. I don't remember actually seeing Turco stab anyone.

El Señor:

Yes, Novelera, you may have drifted off! Turco had seen the cane on the ground. He told the two guards he had to go to the bathroom. After they untied him, he rose unsteadily, then reached down and used his can for about one step. He then pulled out the one half of the cane, revealing the blade, and stabbed the guy who WASN'T wavering in the stomach, killing him. The wavering guy pointed the gun at Turco's head. Turco said you decide, kill me now and no one will get my millions, you'll be in big trouble with Aurelio anyway, or take my offer. From the later scene (where he appears at Ximena and his house, stumbling, but hoarsely saying that Aurelio's alive and knows where they are), we can see that the wavering thug took the offer. And now already, Ximena, Turco, Rutila, and little Victor know A.C. is alive, not to mention all of his own people. I think pretty soon todo el mundo will know!

El Señor

novelera- yep Turco stabbed the one guy, and walked out while the other held his gun on him thinking about the money, and took his bloody stump home for the family to see.

also, Cabo, on the way to the airport shoots his guards inside the van with his hidden gun, while Tijera and company kill everyone else, blowing the doors to the van, which should have killed Cabo, are you ok?

also, Aurelio and company, with a truck load of guys showed up to bring grandma home (from a tip from a sapo to Matilde) but Tijera/Cabo and army return first.

Hombre,

Regarding the guard that we are assuming that took Turco up on his $2 mil offer, nothing is certain. There is also the possibility that Turco also turned on him and killed him like he did Chuy from the first season and the other guy (can't remember his name) that Turco killed after they helped him out.

-VRO

En Otra Piel

novelera- as I recall Esteban has the 'dije' and had set up an appointment with a brujo to make the switch but Monica had some shopping or something to do first.

Deb,

That bomb that Tijeras set to open the van up did not make any sense to me. Why not just get the driver of the van to unlock it instead of bombing it and risking Cabo's life?

Another observation from season 2; two episodes in and I think we've already seen more bombs in this season than the first...

Also thought it was hilarious that Tijeras referred to the bomb as a "abre-latas"... (Can-opener)

-VRO

El Señor

Thanks, Hombre! I did see when Turco showed up at home telling Ximena that AC was alive.

It will be interesting to see if they just run or contact the guy from the Witness Protection Program who placed them in Albuquerque. Turco probably won't want to be located to, say, Detroit. That would leave his buried money in New Mexico!

EL Señor:

VRO - you're absolutely right, I doubt the guy who wanted the $2 million will live (if he's even alive now). Can't trust that Turco!

En Otra Piel

Novelera, I'm so glad you included the short recap of Friday's episode. I somehow missed the part about bringing back girls in the empty Larrea truck.

I enjoyed your asides--the one about Sourpuss needing to sleep a few nights under a cardboard refrigerator box, and the one about placing bets on how many episodes it will take before Camila sees Ricardo at work as a cleaner. I'll bet it will take 2 episodes, at most.

En Otra Piel

Thanks, Novelera, for the recap. I also wondered who will spot Ricardo in his humble janitor's uniform. Hopefully none of the good guys will become patients in the hospital. Regarding Mondriana, I hope the writers make her smarter. I was more than a little nervous with her seduction move last night. She rarely thinks things through. Also very interested in seeing how Elena takes the news about Carlos. I'm guessing she'll bribe him but won't tell Gerardo.

So glad some of you are watching, I guess I'll give up on La Viuda Negra, since it is on at the same time & almost over. It is pretty far off from the real Griselda Blanco, muy, muy, muy fea & not as mean, mean, mean.

I have watched a documentary about the Miami narcos, so know the story.

Telemundo is doing a new TN with Kate del Castillo, " Dueños del paraíso" about the 1980's Miami drug trade. Same writer as La Reina, so I will be watching, KdeC is terrific.

Also "Señora Acero" with Blanca Soto, hmmmm,do you suppose she is better, one can only hope. Maybe she has been taking acting classes. It is about a real person, Sara Aquilar Bermudez.

Los Miserables, current day Les Miserable. ¿Qué what?? with Aracely Arambula, not sure about this one.

Tierra de Reyes, FELS returns

I don't think you will get spoilers on Wiki with El Señor, Telemundo is in Miami, so no showing in Mex 1st.

Hi everyone. I am watching El senor part deux. I only read recaps for Otra. I can't wait for Kate del Castillo's new show. Romy

EN OTRA PIEL, Wed. pt1

Summary version tonight. Sorry.
Pool at the Big House: Mo enters the seductive revenge phase of the plan. In the pool where anyone (Elena) could spot them. Good plan. Ger is ready to jump in with her, but she stops him and encourages him to fantasize. Then she gets out of the pool and sashays back to the cabana. Ger follows. She gets him to tell her that he loves her, there’s no one else for him, etc. They get to it. Until she puts a stop to it, and tells him she doesn’t want to. Ha! Good revenge, Mo.

Barrio: Jen calls Gabe and talks to him as he walks on the street, when he realizes he’s being followed by a couple a guys from the dog gang. He runs into the bar for protection and the puppies get into a car and leave. He’s keeping a look out while talking to Maite, who tells him she sent Anselmo away. (Gabe is on his own).

Vinos Larrera Office: Elena talks to Ernesto about Raul/Carlos, and finds out his real name. She thinks Ernesto is hiding something. Again. She threatens him and wants to know everything about Carlos. He hands her the folder. They talk about what Carlos would have had to do with the judge, but know it couldn’t have been good. Ernesto kisses up to Elena and explains that he’d never plan something without her. She warns him some more. When she leaves, Ernesto mumbles that he’s not going to be the slave to that psychopath.

Selma’s: Jorge comes over to see how she’s doing. They talk of grief and of time lost and chances missed. He tells her about the mystery piano, and then offers her support and friendship (more than friendship some day? One can hope).

Barrio Pension: Val is cooking again, Diego comes by and wants to clean up before trying whatever she’s cooking, but Eileen pushes him over to Val to try the food. Then she “accidently” falls into him, pushing him closer to Vale. Subtlety, thy name is NOT Eileen.

Cabana: Mo stops Ger and tells him she’s not ready. She kicks him out. He treis to talk her into letting him stay, but nope! He gets dressed and leave while she wipes away a tear.

Barrio: Rodrigo is drinking when Marta shows up. He’s still blaming Gabe for the destruction of his shop. Marta doesn’t buy this as an excuse for him to drink again, He whines about the loss of the store, where is he going to get another job at his age, etc. He’s tired of living, of building sand castles just to watch them disappear bit by bit. He cries about his life.

Mansion: Ger is frustrated, while Mo rips the sheets off the bed when her phone rings. It’s Emi checking to see where she is. Emi asks Mo up to her room. When Mo gets there, Emi notices something is wrong and thinks it’s because of Esteban.

Barrio Pension: Vale is still cooking while Jenny looks out for Gabe. Lupe assures her that all is well. Val goes upstairs to get Diego while Eileen calls Ricardo to invite him over. He can’t though because he’s at work. She’s all excited and just knew he’d find a firm to hire him. He’ll explain later that he’s a janitor at the hospital. Gratuitous shirtlessness! Diego is done cleaning up when Vale barges in to tell him dinner’s on. She’s embarrassed, but he’s not. And rightly so. She almost forgets why she came upstairs.

EL OTRA PIEL, Wed. pt 2

Mansion: Emi explains the piano incedent to Mo. Emi asks what she thinks, but Mo says it only matters what Emi thinks. Emi thinks it’s her mother looking out for them. When Emi goes to sleep, Mo hears Elena walking down the hall. Elena goes into Ger’s bathroom where he’s taking a shower and immediately starts to nag him, but he grabs her and pulls her in with him.

Barrio: Rod is still feeling sorry for himself and tells Marta she can’t understand his suffering. She’s like “What the hell?!?”, but in a nicer way. He then asks why she left his whiny, alcoholic butt. Then he (I think) says things would be fine if she hadn’t left. She’s not having it. He puts obstacles in his own way and then plays the victim. She tells him he’s talented but too caught up in the past and the movie he wrote. She gets up to leave and he says she’s leaving like she always does. She tells him he hasn’t changed. She wanted to give him another chance, but he’ll always be the same.

Barrio Pension: Everyone is eating when Gabe finally shows up. Jenny pulls him over to the table and they sit ALL AROUND it, like normal people not in a tv show. Weird.

Mansion: Mo goes down to the secret storeroom (that I really hope she had the foresight to put a bathroom in) and opens up a trunk.

Mansion, next day: Ger wakes up Elena and tells her she should leave before anyone else wakes up. She says she knows about Carlos and berates him a little. He doesn’t know what she’s talking about. (I assume he told Ernesto to investigate and is lying, but I can’t remember for sure. Don’t think Ernesto does anything on his own).

Barrio Pension: Gabe wakes up Jenny with breakfast in bed, from Subway. Yummy! According to Jenny, anyway. Then he tells her about the possibility of working at the mansion with his mother, but as a maid. She’s fine with it. She can study at night or online or whenever. She’s happy to have the job.

Mansion: Mo stops Cami before she leaves and apologizes for being gone. She asks what Cami thought of the piano incedent. Then she asks if Cami has thought about going back to Paris and Cami looks suspicious. She reminds Mo that they aren’t friends and shuts down the conversation. She leaves and Elena walks in the room. She demands to know where Mo was last night and accuses her of scaring the family. Mo takes offense and says she’d never do that to the household. Her tone is a little uppity and more firm than she was before. Elena dismisses her but still thinks she’s up to something.

Barrio: Ric gets back from his job and tells Gabe what he’s doing. He’s not at all happy like Jenny was. Then Gabe notices that Rod has gone missing.

Barrio Chop shop: Diego takes the car out for a test drive and gets stopped by the cops.

Mansions: Elena goes back to her room and notices a burned up doll hanging in her room. What?? Venganza, that’s what, Elena. 9I assume this is an old doll of Elena’s that Mo pulled out of the trunk. Not sure why she would have kept it, but it serves its purpose here).

Cielos

Another day, another bomb. I must admit I was skeptical about this season at first but so far its turning out to be just as good as the first season.

3 questions:
1. Refresh my memory, but since when does Turco know Chema?

2. Why is Turco afraid to tell Chema that AC is still alive?

3. Didn't Chacorta and Matilde have a baby? Where is said baby?

-VRO

En Otra Piel:

Great, funny recap, Kelly. Thanks!

At first I thought that Val was unnerved at seeing Diego shirtless because of flashbacks to her rape but it seemed more like she was feeling desire at seeing those manly pecs.

"Subtley, thy name is not Eileen" LOL - how true.

Gerado must have been taking a COLD shower when Elena found him - heh heh.

Why would Diego be out test driving a car since he can't have a driver's license? Unless CA is one of the states that lets illegals get driving licenses.

I can't wait until Camila/Sourpuss discovers that Ricardo is working as a janitor.

I don't remember anyone asking Ernesto to investigate Carlos/Raul but I might have missed it. It shouldn't be too hard to put the pieces together on the relationship between a judge who patronized brothels with underage girls and a sleazy guy like Carlos.

En Otra Piel
Many thanks, Kelly, for the very helpful recap. I kept being called away from the TV and missed some key parts, which your recap provided. I loved your remark about hoping Monica thought to put a bathroom in the secret storeroom.

Hmmm...Jorge and Selma. I like that, though I've been assuming that Jorge would pair off with Lorena. I like Selma a lot more, but I'm not sure she can fall in love with someone else so soon after Esteban's death. Unless, of course, the telenovela goes on for a few more months. Which I doubt/hope/pray doesn't happen.

Cielos:

Good questions, VRO. I can't answer any of them:) I do get the feeling that Turco pretty much doesn't want to reveal anything to anyone, maybe out of an overabundance of caution. I hate when he threatens those little kids.

Love that Leo, deciding to stay in Mexico, telling Ponte she'd have to hit him, to make the bosses believe she overpowered him and took his gun. And she's smart, getting together some allies, heading right for Turco's former house (and Aurelio, Chacorta and Bert are there).

Lai wasn't buying Aurelio's statement that he was just a bodyguard at ALL.

Cabo and Tijeras weren't too happy when Chema asked them to killed the President, mainly because he threatened their families.

I think the Colonel who told Leo she had to leave is Ramos. He's actually supposedly a good guy, although DEA agent Andrews says "everybody has his price" (which BTW was proven false in season one, as Marco and Leo never agreed to take money.)

Cielos

Also, I have been forgetting to mention this, that "Atolero" dude is creepy as heck. It is going to be interesting to see how this is going to play out once Monica escapes, if she ever gets the opportunity to escape that is.

Byway, kinda ironic that AC was reminiscing about Monica when Lai walked in on him. What were those bullets that Monica gave him? They looked like cuff-links but I could be wrong.

I know I'm very observant but did anyone else notice that AC had the short hair-do in his flashback with Monica, as opposed to the long hair he had prior to his "death"?

-VRO

Cielos

ah yes VRO, I've got the fuzzies on last season as well.

let's see, Turco was Aurelio's 'get it done guy' so he knew everyone, and didn't he know an American guy that was helping him break from Aurelio, who was connected with Chema, who is also American ??

I don't think anyone wants anything to do with Chema, but he just kind of walks right in.

I'm still working on Ximena's kids,
Heriberto
Rutila
Victor jr. ??- Chacorta's kid with that other lady?
youngest- this is Aurelios, right?

En Otra Piel

thanks for the wonderful recap Kelly!

we'll probably learn more about the creepy doll thingy tonight, it's fun that Elena gets rattled so easily, but I think the more she finds out about Carlos the more she will like him,

and I guess Geraldo is a "want it all' kind of guy, who is comfortable being a different person with everyone, and so far has all of the money, and as he keeps telling Elena, you have to be smart about these things,

Ernesto likes playing people as well, but his pervo judge lie for Geraldo, seems to have derailed his train with Elena for now.

so Jennifer moving into the mansion, hmm, she is by association already an ally of Monica, and a friend of Marta, so that will be good.

how come Rodrigo and Lorena don't get together for a drink (or maybe some rehab), she would probably spill to him.

Cielos

Deb, you are correct about the kids. They are all AC's except for Victor Jr. He is the son of Victor and La Maestra that was killed in first season.

You're right about Turco's American connection, his name was Randy but was arrested.

-VRO

Cielos:

I still have only seen a bit of the first epi.

Deb- Yes. The youngest child is also Aurelio's. Getting pregnant with that last baby girl was what reunited her with Aurelio after the first time she left him (after their big wedding that he used to murder and mayhem). Turco and Ximena don't have any children together.

EN OTRA PIEL

Kelly, thanks so much! Pretty good for a "summary". I also loved "hope there's a bathroom in the secret room".

Did Lorena ever give Elena a good slap in the face? I thought I remembered one. Of course Lorena got more than she ever gave. I certainly felt like slapping her a dozen times last night. Sheesh! They repeatedly said it was the night before Mondriana's day off when the ghostly piano playing happened. But Elena grills her like it's a felony for an adult woman not to sleep in her normal bed the night before her day off. A trip to Catalina on the ferry, perhaps?

I liked it when Ernesto, who normally drives me nuts, called her a psychopath. They've not really showed him expressing how he feels about her, except to warn his brother not to cross her.

I wish Mondriana would get it through her head that she's never going to win over Sourpuss. Every time she approaches her to try to get some warmth out of her she gets an ice bath.

Wait until Elena gets a look at Jennifer! I'm surprised she doesn't make Susana wear a mask so Gerardo can't get a good look at her.

I think Gerardo did ask Ernesto long, long ago to investigate Carlos. This was right after Figueroa installed him in Larrea Wineries and Gerardo was furious about it. Ernesto must have the worst PI in LA if it took this long!

EN OTRA PIEL

One more thing. I'm liking Selma and Jorge together. Lorena is just too messed up, and her keeping quiet about her daughter's crimes, in my mind, rules her out for a happy ending with a handsome guy.

I know it's soon for Selma to be over Esteban, but maybe they'll have a "months pass" episode and give her time to properly grieve.

SEÑOR

Wow! I think they went through the year's budget of blank bullets in the "rescue mamí" part of the episode.

I'm going to be VERY unhappy if Cabo and Tijeras are successful in killing the President and the U.S. Drug Czar. Good for Cabito! He went right after Chema when his family in Colombia was threatened. The guy is so amusing most of the time. I think they'll fail. Killing the President of Mexico on a telenovela may be too outrageous to portray.

Well, they've been VERY successful in blackening Turco. Telling Rutila that Chacorta's little boy would be hurt if she doesn't toe the line was awful. But Rutila has a lot of her father in her. She looks at Turco in a fairly fearless way, and may get her own back some day.

VRO, I agree 100% about El Atolero. He's Hollywood Horror Movie creepy. He's also toast when Mónica Robles gets free!

So far I am really liking El senor. I had love Turco the first season now not so much even though I am fine with AC, Lol. I like the Colombians, funny. I am hoping Monica does escape. We need a badass woman on the bad guys side. Romy

Cielos

I did notice Aurelio's short hair in the flashback.

I don't believe Ximena & Turco are married.

Who is the woman held captive with Monica?

Didn't they kill a presidential candidate in season 1, or am I mixing up my narco novelas?

Señor

Variopinta, they killed a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic church, but I don't remember them killing a president or a presidential candidate.

That did happen in Pablo Escobar.

novelera,
I do now remember the Cardinal being killed & I didn't see Pablo, so maybe I'm vaguely remembering a true incident.

Just cked online, it happened in 1994, a true incident

Just cked again, it was in La reina del sur.

Cielos

Variopinta, you are correct. A presidential candidate was shot and killed by Chacorta during one of his campaign rallies. If you recall, AC and Cabo were watching from atop of a building.

-VRO

Cielos

Now I'm sorry Turco didn't get castrated. I don't think his demise will be pretty when Aurelio gets a hold of him again. Poor Ximena, from bad to worse.

En Otra Piel

ah, I was wrong on the 'dije',
I see Monica has it in the secret room safe.

CIELOS:

Go, Monica! Okay, I know she's not the most moral character, and she did kill that henchman and El Tollero (who apparently had raped her and the other girl), but I liked when she said, next up, Aurelio!

Note to self: If I ever know a druglord's secrets, and his guy comes to kidnap me at work, with lots of people around, I won't go with him! Once that doctor was in Chema's warehouse, it pretty much didn't matter if he told the truth or not, he's was done for (although we didn't actually see them kill the last of the three). It's like if you're being carjacked. I think they tell you NOT to get in the car, to resist at first, because once you're under his control, your odds go down.

Looks as if Chacorta and the boys have decided to kidnap some wealthy people, since they're short on case until they get Turco's stash back.

And what about Matilde plan? Did she say she and Lai are going to be the bosses, and they'll get a whole crew of attractive young ladies to traffic in information? Chacorta won't like this (Matti says she's already looking for a new hubby!)

En Otra Piel – jueves – Part 1

We see Elena coming out of the shower and seeing the hanging crispy-critter doll. Elena flashes back to Mónica telling the child Elena that the doll is a gift from her mother. Elena takes it outside and sets it on fire, which Mónica sees. Child Elena screams that she hates her Mommy. [This shows that Elena was pretty perverted even as a child and Mónica knew about it. And why did Mónica save the remains? And why didn't the hair of the doll burn?] Mondriana overshears Elena say, “This can't be happening!” and Mondriana says that this is just the beginning.

Diego gets stopped by the police. He gives his real name and admits that he doesn't have a driver's license or registration for the car. He says that he is just a mechanic. The cops handcuff him.

Ricardo and Gabriel are at home wondering where Dad wandered off to. They get a call from Maite at the bar. Rodrigo is there and he's drunk. Not only is Rodrigo drunk, he's one of those crying drunks who lament their misfortune to all the other drunks in the bar. Ric and Gab set out to bring him home and witness Diego being arrested. Knowing that he is undocumented, they rush to help him. But Martín appears and it turns out the cops are dirty. They release Diego and the guys witness Martín giving the cops a bribe. Self-righteous Diego is shocked to learn that Martín is a bad guy. He wants nothing to do with him any more.

Elena struggles to gain control of herself. She tries to figure out who could have done this. And, not surprisingly, she decides it was Lorena. She accuses her poor mother of putting the doll in her room. Lorena has no idea what she is talking about.

Gerardo rousts Ernesto who is still sleeping at noon and demands to know why he gave Elena information before he gave it to him. Ernesto replies that he had to do something to resolve Elena's doubts about him after Gerardo threw him under the bus for stealing the video of the judge. Ernesto tells Gerardo what he found out – that Raul is a false name and that Carlos Ricalde was in prison but was released for lack of evidence. Gerardo is sure that Carlos' dealings with the judge involved something worse that what Gerardo and Ernesto are doing. He wants Ernesto to find out and to tell him first, not Elena.

En Otra Piel - jueves - Part 2

Elena calls all the staff together, takes them to her room, opens the door and demands to know who hung the doll there. Of course, Mondriana has removed the doll. Everyone denies going into Elena's room that morning. Elena gives them 24 hours to tell her the name of the responsible party. She gives Vicky a special warning not to mess with her.

Ric, Diego and Gab get Rodrigo home to sleep it off. Diego tells Ric that not only is he illegal, he is a fugitive from a Mexican prison. He tells him the whole story. Ric believes that he is innocent and offers to check with his “professors” for advice but doesn't hold out much hope that he (or they) can help with Diego's legal and immigration problems.

The guys then work out a plan to get Jennifer out of the “Barrio Pension” as Kelly would say and into the Mansion.

At the Larrea offices, Elena tells Gerardo about the doll incident. He asks if she is sure that she actually saw the doll. Elena goes bonkers demanding to know if he thinks that she is crazy. Camila comes in and asks what is going on. Gerardo claims that Elena is upset by the piano playing incident and overreacted in a disagreement they had over a business matter. Elena leaves and Sourpuss tells Gerardo that he has a gift for “desquiciar a la gente,” "driving people crazy."

Back at the mansion, Lorena locks herself in her room and flashes back to Elena blaming her for what happened. She doesn't want to see Selma who has come to visit her. Selma runs into Mondriana and Emiliana. Emiliana tells Selma about the piano incident saying that since Mondriana was at Selma's house that night, she didn't hear the piano playing. Obviously surprised, Selma backs Mondriana up. The two women go the the guest house for some chisme.

Doña Lupe is sad to see Jennifer leave the pension.

En Otra Piel - jueves - Part 3

Anselmo gives Maite a present that turns out be a comb (a used comb). At first, she is scornful asking if he thinks her hair is such a mess that she needs a comb but when he tells her it was his mother's, she says it is exactly what she needed.

Selma tells Mondriana the obvious - that her plan of vengeance is most likely to harm Lorena who will be the recipient of all Elena's fury. She warns Mondriana of the possible consequences of this and other collateral damage that she will not want on her conscience but Mondriana seems to just tune her out. She just repeats that Elena and Gerardo have to pay for what they did to her.

After Eileen has a casting call for a part in a telenovela, she shows up at the Barrio Pension to disguise Jennifer for her escape to the mansion. Lupe and Maite are bowled over by Eileen's skill in disguise but when we actually see Jennifer, she is just dressed as a boy in a hoodie and drawn-on moustache – not really that amazing.

Mondriana finds out that Rodrigo doesn't have the money to reopen the bookstore. She runs right off to the secret room and opens the safe. All she finds is the dije and she apologizes to Adriana and says that she didn't want this.

Diego is at the bar when Martín comes in. He tells Diego to cut out the holier than thou routine. He knows that Diego murdered someone in Mexico and was in prison. Once again Diego protests his innocence. Martín says that Diego thinks that what he is doing is a crime but he just trying to help a bunch of guys and that no one is completely black and white. Everyone has reasons for what they do.

Mondriana hears voices in the study. It's Lorena and Elena. Lorena begs Elena to stop torturing her. She has supported Elena and hasn't told anyone that Elena murdered Mónica. Mondriana hears this and is impactada.

Cielos
Monica snuffed out the girl with a plastic bag that was hired to entertain her brother. Glad she's back though.

Many thanks, Jean, for your excellent recap. I didn't enjoy the episode all that much, between Mondri's going on and on about vengeance and Rodrigo's convincing but painful portrayal of a crying drunk. I'd been sympathetic to him for a while, but his maudlin self-pity and his blaming everyone but himself for his problems just make me want to scream ¡Ya basta!

I want to thank you, too, for including the phrase desquiciar a la gente. It went by a bit too fast for me to catch. I thought I knew the word desquiciar well enough to understand it when I heard it, but apparently not.

EN OTRA PIEL

Terrific recap, Jean!

I get a kick out of your lapses into logic; i.e., why didn't the doll's hair burn? That never even crossed my far from logical mind.

Everyone at Casa Serrano is going to soon think Elena is BSC. She's behaving like a complete nutcase all the time.

They sure did tease us with Mondriana opening the safe. I also think a copy of the real will is in there. But she got distracted hearing Elena and Lorena arguing after only looking at the dije.

But, she's still going to need proof of what they did. Because she really signed the back page of the one Figueroa said was valid. And that one had a later date than the one Munguía prepared.

The conspirators are turning on each other more and more. Gerardo and Ernesto have been at each other's throats for quite a while now.

I'm sure Jennifer's disguise is going to work fine. But Mondriana may need to brief her about what a nest of vipers there are in the house she'll be working in.

So Martín has convinced himself that being the mechanical link in a ring of car thieves is "giving back to the barrio". I hate to see corrupt cops, but I'm sure glad Diego didn't get hauled off to jail and then deported.

Have you all noticed that Mondriana doesn't wear her hair in a bun any more? It seems like the vengeful Mondi now has loose, flowing hair.

Cielos

Didn't get a chance to watch this last night. I got home from book club and made the mistake of peeking at my DVR of the SF Giants vs St. Louis Cardinals. So, except for skipping commercials, I was compelled by the game and watched nearly all of it. Go Giants!!!

So I'll probably watch two episodes tonight and catch up!

En Otra Piel

Thanks, Jean, for the recap. A few things crossed my mind while reading it...

1. I'm not surprised that Martin is dirty but not having his support could spell trouble for the main characters in the neighborhood.

2. Gerardo said he'd spent millions bailing Ernesto out of trouble, so why does Ernesto have such a problem taking 1 for the team. His attitude towards Gerardo and Elena really stinks right now. I'm guessing that a real betrayal is forthcoming.

3. Maybe it was just me but I didn't get the feeling that Emi believed Selma when she said Mondriana was with her. Hopefully she'll keep it to herself. Susana was also around, but i couldn't tell if she detected the coverup.

You'll be happy to know Monica & other captive escaped. She stabbed that swine. She also stabbed someone else to prove what a bad ass she was to get close to the swine so she could do him in. I think that her 1st victim might have been a former friend, maybe that came to rescue her???

Rutila escaped the house of Turco, rolled up blanket & pillow in the bed. She called collect & got abuela. Aurelio got on the phone & found out they are in LA before Turco found her. Niña has balls that Turco will be missing soon.
Previous to her escaping, Turco held a knife to the boy's throat, I think letting Rutila & he know if she didn't behave-----
Everyone has their limit, Aurelio loves his kids. Tijeras didn't want to hurt a Mom, apparently Turco has none.
Wonder if he really loves Ximena or is it lust or just getting back at Aurelio?

You can see why I can't recap, but since no one is, I'll start taking notes

Aurelio is hot on Turco's trail.

Leonor goes to see Irina at the art gallery.

AC & co. steal a plane after killing 2 guards to fly from NM to LA.

Carlitos hijo de Matilde y Chacorta (Heiberto) cries, great mom that she is, yells for someone to take care of him so she can have her beer. Lai starts to go but Doña Alba tells her not to or she'll end up raising him, ja, ja.

Cepeda, the one getting the 2 mil is at Turco & Ximena's house. She realizes Turco is still in the dirty business.

The Colombians took over Monica's house & gave a lot of her stuff away. The servant apologizes but there was nothing he could do. Monica understands. The servant says AC is dead & even though she has fond memories, she is pissed because she wanted to kill him. That's our girl.

Turco's house is on Franklin st near a barber shop. Guess there are lots of those in LA. Every one of them is no good.

Cabo & Tijeras are working on explosives. Cabo stuffs a couple in his belt & tells Tijeras they are for Chema if sth goes wrong.

Chema is at Turco's. Turco & Xi are getting ready to clear out. Chema is amused that Turco is afraid of Chacorta. Turco says he is the bloodiest guy he knows. He doesn't mention that AC is alive.

Chema is rating Turco out to Chacorta as a trap for AC. AC's group shows up. Chema is looking for AC but AC is somewhere with binoculars seeing Chema & knows Chema used his family for bait.

Those must be DEA agents that Heiberto is guarding.

Hi Sue: I'm watching this sort of. If I needed confirmation that not all Brazilian novelas are great, this is it.

Between Beatriz and her mother giggling, Gilmar rolling his eyes and calling Viviana/Vitoria "burra," it's a bit much not to mention the politics of heaven and grumpy, ugly Ricardo.

I miss AB! I just watched the first 12 episodes that I missed when it started. They were great especially when I know how it all comes out.

CIELOS:

Thanks, Variopinta, excellent job!

I think Heriberto is guarding the 3 businessmen that Chacorta kidnapped because the family is short of cash. Leo has already figured out that these three were kidnapped. Ponte's friend Drusila got her the files, and this is Leo's next lead. She's at that party with Irina because Irina probably knows the rich businessmen, and could find out what happened to them.

Too bad for Leo that everybody except Ponte and Drusila wants to arrest her. Ramos is a good guy, but he's believing that terrible Andrews, who keeps spouting US-Mexico cooperation bull.

Chema said that even though all three of the doctors gave their lives denying that AC is alive, he still doesn't believe it, and is hoping this trap will smoke out AC. But you're right, AC seems to be one step ahead of him!

Cielos

The businessmen makes sense, one yelled he would pay anything. Heiberto was on the phone with Chacorta & he told Berto to shut him up, Berto did but not permanently, yet.

I believe Andrews is dirty, didn't he call a narco, Chema maybe???

So glad you are here Hombre, your understanding is mucho, mucho better than mine.

Cielos

Thanks, Variopinta!

I get the feeling Cabo and Tijeras are cooking something up. Cabo changed some little packets that were on the explosives. No clue what that means. But Cabo was giving significant looks and speaking lots of unintelligible Colombianspeak to Tijeras. I think they're planning to blow up the guards. Cabo got a call that made him happy. May he have gotten his and Tijeras family safe?

I can't stand Andrews. Does the guy really speak Spanish well and is faking that awful accent? Ramos is an idiot.

After all that Leonor Ballesteros did as Mejia's partner, it strains credulity that they would be trying to arrest her. And how can they force her to leave the country anyway?

More Colombianspeak from Mathilde. What I gathered is that she and Lai are searching for a place with an agent (whom she insults) to open a brothel. They don't plan to work there, of course (although Mathilde may not be able to resist the temptation). The other part of the plan is to gather useful information from the high-end clients. Not sure if this info was to sell to their enemies or to use to blackmail them.

Poor little Carlitos. His best hope is that Mathilde gets bumped off and Alba raises. him.

I thought it was great that AC didn't show himself and clearly spotted Chema. Chema's gloating is getting to me. But Mauricio Ochmann is doing a good job. I never saw him before except as a galán.

El Señor
Many thanks, Variopinta, Hombre, and Novelera for your remarks about last night's episode. Variopinta, I missed what Dona Alba said to Lai when Carlitos was crying. Thanks for including that. And yes, in answer to your question, Andrews is definitely dirty dirty dirty. He's in cahoots with bad guys, but Ramos et al don't yet realize this.

Novelera, I loved your referring to "unintelligible Colombianspeak." If even you didn't understand it, I don't feel quite so bad about my own mystification. Bad, but not quite so bad.

Speaking of language, I gotta say that if I could speak Spanish anywhere near as easily as Andrews, I'd be thrilled, even if it meant I had a rotten accent.

El Señor

Juanita, whenever Cabo, Tijeras and Mathilde speak, I back up the DVR recording and listen one or two more times. Part of the problem is their usage of voseo in which they use vos instead of for the familiar. And the verb itself is conjugated and pronounced differently. This increases my difficulty in understanding.

My ear is tuned to Mexican Spanish as I work with many people who were born in Mexico. And, of course, many of our telenovela actors are Mexican, although most try for a very neutral accent. When I was in Spain in September I was told I had a neutral accent, which I took as a compliment. Spaniards can be very snobbish about a Latin American accent.

Cielos

I didn't catch brothel at all. I thought they were going full scale in the narco business, of course brothel could be part of that. Lei is the sister of Oscar Cardena, so I thought Matilde thought they could take over & be madrinas de la norcotraficantes.

Does Lei know Aurelio or is she just fantasizing? Matilde gave him a glowing review in the sex dept, I'm fantasizing myself.

Cielo, I watched with my captions on because of the fast paced Colobian speak. Matilde and Lai want to open a business where they'll use girls to get info from powerful businessmen and sell it to their competitors. The girls will use sex and make them talk and Mat and Lai will sell to highest bidder. Turco is a pig now. Ruti is her dad's daughter. I love Monica and am glad she's back.

Señor

Variopinta, Lei met Aurelio once. She was at the house visiting Mathilde from Colombia when he brought his mother back to the Casillas rancho.

He tried to fool her, saying he was just one of the bodyguards at the ranch. He never admitted who he was. It was obvious she knew who he was. Sparks kind of flew between them.

Jean: This is a novela where I feel I don't have to see every episode. I've already missed a couple and it's only been on two weeks.

Yes, Sofía and Beatriz get on my last nerve too. If it's the director's choice to have them act like a couple of "Mean Girls," then it's a poor choice.

Another troublesome character is Judy, Guillermo's wife. What a shrew! Maybe Guillermo wants to spend all his time at work because of you!

As for Gilmar...put a handlebar mustache on him and you've got Snidely Whiplash. Terribly
inconvenient for our Dudley Do Right (Daniel) who's in a Heaven that looks kind of like....Earth.

Not all Brazilian novelas are great; even AB had its issues. I watched only 2/3 of the original "O Clone" because of the repetitiveness of some of the characters. So far, I'd say that "Escrito" comes closest to a typical Telerisa novela.

Brazilian Novelas;

I'm currently watching Geraçao Brasil in Portuguese (yes, now I'm trying to learn THAT language, too). It's extremely funny, I really like it. If it ever gets reissued in Spanish in the future, I recommend it to all of us Spanish learners.

EL SENOR

Except for the brothel business, I'm liking Lai. So far, anyway. I think she and Alba could have a fun relationship (and I'm sure Alba would trade in Mati in a heartbeat).

Jerk that he is, Aurelio is smart to stay hidden from Chema. That least scene cracked me up though, with Aurelio watching Chema watch Chacorta watching Turco.

Hi Jean and Sue 455:

I am still watching this one off and on, and I have to say I laughed when I read your comment, Sue 455, about Gilmar's bulging eyes. He IS Snidely Whiplash! My favorite character is the dog still! I do like Doc Ricardo, he is a conflicted character. I can't stand Beatriz or her mother either. They are like two mean girls.

I read that this TN is short. It is only 105 episodes in syndication. There were only 143 when it aired in Brasil. Maybe the next one will be better, more like AB ; )

Hi fellow AB refugees, Madeleine and Sue455. I also don't feel the need to watch all of every episode of this. But having the made the intiial time investment, I too will follow it along to the end and hope for a better one to come.
