When the money starts to run out your friends might consider pulling the plug: Lo Que la Vida me Robo Epi 121. 04/30/14

Hello fellow Caray Caray mates, tonight you will get a quick recap from me but I hope to be able to cover everything you need to know, here we go:

Puppy Lake is calling....

We are transported to Argentina, where we see a cute little girl named Victoria getting juice for her parents-Nadia and Victor, both survived the plane crash and although Victor seems fine we realize that poor Nadia lost her sight in the accident-which is a small price to pay in order to be away from her bat shit crazy husband. Victoria wakes her parents up at six am in the morning, and friends I think that any child that wakes anyone up at that hour of the day is just asking to be put up for adoption. The happy family gets ready to start the day and Victor tells Nadia that he is going to the hospital to see Alejandro and asks if she would like to join him-Nadia says she will tag along and they make plans to go after Victoria is in school.

Once they arrive in the hospital Alejandro's doctor approaches them and tells them that they have a serious problem that needs to be discussed. We later learn that the money that has been paying for Alejandro's treatment has started to run out-the hospital is requesting that they pay three months worth of treatment up front and neither Victor nor Nadia have any idea how they will come up with the cash. Victor is making only enough money to pay for their rent and for Victoria's school tuition, even with the little that Nadia brings in from teaching music classes things are tight, one day of treatment would cost them a month's wages, the only solution they can come up with is for Victor to ask for a loan at his job.

I hope they figure things out because Victor did say that although it would hurt him deeply if they couldn't come up with the money poor Alejandro would be going to puppy lake, aka:they would have to pull the plug, thankfully Nadia seems to have gotten through to Victor when she told them they would do whatever it took to keep Alex alive.

Oooh are you expecting triplets?

Adolfo calls on Esme to see if she has any idea of where Maria is, his visit gets off to a bad start when he sees Esmeralda and greets her by saying "wow, you're huge", Esmeralda replies with "I'm pregnant" and our dear Alfonso thinks this is a good time to ask if she's having triplets. Esmeralda warns him that if he makes one more joke about her weight he will be leaving her house in a  body bag. She tells him he is better off asking EZ where Maria is, maybe he moved her to another location because one day Maria just want *poof*, Adolfo wants to know if she left anything behind with Esme for safe keeping and she tells him that Maria left nothing behind.

Refugio, oh Refugio, there really is no hope for you:

At the Naval Base Refugio asks to speak with Monica, he needs to know who it is that she's falling in love with, things go bad when Refugio assumes that Monica is in love with him, and he declares his love for her and omg I could just smack him! He has a wife at home, a pregnant wife that gave up what she loved doing because of HIM, and yet there he stands telling Monica that his feelings have grown for her over the years and that she's gotten under his skin. Let me at him, let me at him! No wonder Esme is so freaking unhappy!

Carlota's new crib::

Carlota and EZ are supervising the movers as they bring in the furniture to start redecorating Carlota's new crib. She is happy to finally have back the house that once belonged to her brother and in which so many memories were created, she is also happy that Graciela cleaned out Lauro's old office so that EZ can work in it, EZ laughs as if to say "yeah, how kind of her to allow me to use a room in a house that *I* paid for", they both agree that they don't like the idea of having to live with Graciela but Carlota says she had to accept that deal in order to be able to purchase the house, neither of them sees Graciela looking down at them from a balcony nor do they hear her say "enjoy your moment in the spotlight Carlota, my time will come soon enough". EZ excuses himself because he has to return to work. Okay, Caray mates, what do we make of EZ? Here's what we know about him.

  • He was interested in Esme and was able to resort to some pretty low tricks to try and get into a relationship with her.
  • is not afraid to use violence and we know his not above killing someone
  • Spared Maria her life and would have done the same for Padre Anselmo-had Adolfo kept his trap shut.
  • Hates Pedro Medina
  • is involved in illegal activities
  • Seems to be a loving and devoted husband-there's no way he could fake being a good person for 7+ years right? It seems like he's good to Carlota.
Anyone want to share their thoughts about EZ?

Montse and Jose Luis:

Montse pays a visit to Jose Luis, she tells him that she knows the truth and expresses her gratitude to him-he spent 7 years in jail paying for a crime he did not commit just to make sure she was happy. They talk about how alone they both are and he points out that she has her son to keep her going, someone to go home to at the end of the night and get hugs and kisses from, he on the other hand has no one and nothing to live for. Montse corrects him and tells him that he has Esme and Refugio, they are his family-Jose Luis says that's not enough.

*PAUSE* Let me just make a suggestion here, Jose Luis, please go to the pound and get a cat, or maybe lots of cats and then you could form a kitty army and never feel alone, ooh and maybe the cat army would be able to take down Pedro Medina-yep, I hate more faith in my feline friends than I do in Nadia,Victor, Montse, Alex and JL, the cats might be a lot smarter than this lot.

Back to out story, Jose Luis is doing a good job of worming his way back into Montse's life and gets her to accept that she still cares about him, he also manages to get her to agree to go out to diner with him. Later Montse and Esme-who continues to express her unhappiness with married life make plans for Refugio and Esme to join JL and Montse for diner, although Esme says odds are Refugio will refuse to go. Montse tells her JL will get him to go and that she will help Esme get ready for their night out. Oh Montse please work your Barbie magic on Esme, I hate to say it but she looks frumpy and her hair, oh em gee, her hair looks so greasy that I could probably fry an egg on it.

Argentina:

Back in Argentina Nadia is giving a piano lesson to a student when his dad arrives to pick him up, the boys father tells Nadia he needs her help, he needs her to preform for a concert he is giving that night, his performer is out sick and he needs Nadias help in a big way. Nadia reminds him that she does not like doing concerts and he tells her that he would consider it a personal favor and he is willing to pay her as much as the regular girl gets paid and with the mention of the money Nadias wheels start to turn, she asks "how much money?". I want to scream DON'T DO IT NADIA. My many years of watching novelas have taught me one thing, whenever a character is forced to do something, especially something they don't want to do due to money considerations nothing good ever comes of it. I have a bad feeling about this.

And I'm done for the night! I did not see the previews but umm it's a safe bet to say that stuff happens!

Wonderful recap,Eli! I laughed at the car army taking down Pedro Medina,i hope an army of wolwes join him in the end in his Royal Bathtub, with the pipe in his mouth and he screams NOOOOOOO ,while we see a rolling FIN on the screen!

About EZ i will reserve my opinion until the end because i am not sure about him ,the reason being he is completely unpredictable and only time can tell on which side he truly is but im guessing he desires to become a Governor and desperatly wants to oblitirate Pedro.

I dont even believe the Padre is dead ,we didnt see the body at all,he might be hiding somewhere,he is an important witness and an incredibly useful "tool" for EZ.

I started to doubt EZ is on anybodys side at all,he is like USA in World War,"We are on nobodies side but our profit. As long as there will be wars on the planet,we as instigators and funders will gain profit !"

Lol "car army" instead of cat army. And sorry about the political "rant" but i will try to explain from an another angle.EZ is based on the concept of "Where people fight, the others benefit" in my opinion. He is just waiting for the moment to show his true colors. He is the observer,a manipulator, the one who awaits the perfect moment to backstab Pedro and take all of his belongings. Also because he is married to Carlota ,all the fortune is transcribed to him including the house.Since the hacienda is now Pedros,he can freely take it away after his possible death as the belongings of a state.

Eli, great recap, almost choked on my coffee at:
"...poor Nadia lost her sight in the accident-which is a small price to pay in order to be away from her bat shit crazy husband."

"Esmeralda warns him that if he makes one more joke about her weight he will be leaving her house in a body bag."

Your bullet list sums up what I have noticed about EZ, what is weird about both EZ and Pedro is that currently for the last 6-7 years they seem to have a tender loving relationship with their spouses. Really puzzling. The other night though, Pedro after talking to Amalia after she stroked his face, had that old evil look back. But EZ doesn't come out of character.
OF COURSE NADIA will certainly be recognized by Pedro somehow if she plays publicly for ambassadors for heaven sake. We can all see that happening.

Eli...you had me laughing with the observation that any kid waking her parents at 6 am is a candidate for adoption. As far as I know, ALL kids wake their parents at 6 am. It's one of those dirty little secrets, washed-out, greasy-haired parents don't confess, but once the children arrive, sleep (and often romance!) is over. I still remember the sad realization that I would never, ever, ever be able to "sleep in" again.

Then, when the kids are older, you can't sleep because they're not home yet. And when they finally leave home, then you can't sleep because...well, I'm not going to go into that.

Suffice it to say, loved your light-hearted, humorous recap. I really enjoy your take on things.
Sounds like it' high time for our prince to wake up. His magical medical enchantment is getting pricey!

Simply superb Eli. Have to run to work, but this gave me such a chuckle! The cat army...my two are sitting here nodding in agreement!!

And yes, DeadToMe Refugio. Esme needs to dump his sorry a** now. Another woman who would probably be better off on her own.

Why did JL just come off as kind of slimy last night? Trying too hard maybe?

Cute little girl. Hate the Nadia blindness ( better not be some morality thing...married woman ran away for love so she had to pay some kind of price. No no and no.)

Daisynjay

Thanks, Eli. You covered everything.

I feel really bad for Esmeralda. Refugio needs a major wake-up call or he will lost both Esmeralda and the baby. Or does he even care? How emotionally invested are most men in their children, especially before they start walking and talking?

I agree that JL should get himself a dog or a couple of cats. The adoring faces of furry pets and their unconditional love is good for what ails their humans.

EZ seems to be extraordinarily patient in his mission to take Pedro down so I am wondering where his breaking point is. He's obviously profiting from Pedro's illegal activities or he wouldn't have been able to buy the Mendoza mansion or refurnish it. He's an opportunist who does what he has to to get what he wants. He didn't kill Maria and most probably didn't kill Padre Anselmo (whom I guess is lying in the infirmary of a monastery right now) because they could be of use to him down the line. The big question might be what his plans are once Pedro is finally unmasked and defeated. We don't know that answer and he's inscrutable enough so we can only speculate.

Not a spoiler; just a guess: Someone will turn off the machine and Alejandro will wake up.

Thanks so much Eli! I was on the phone and watched this on mute.

I'm so glad we finally know Victor and Nadia and Victoria are alive. Victoria is played by the young actress who played Alina in Mentir Para Vivir, so she's already accustomed to having parents with secret identities on the run between Argentina and Mexico. :)

Looked to me like Monse and JL were getting quite cozy with each other. But I did have the sound of, so I say if there was a creepy vibe from JL.

So I can't say if there was a creepy vibe...

Nothing we haven't seen before.

I don't think Monserrat will love JL as she once did. Time and events change people. JL has changed because he was married, widowed, and in the slammer and Monserrat has changed because she had to survive without Alejandro and raise their son without him. The world will never be the same for either of them.

JL's best option would be to start over somewhere else. In fact, Monserrat might have been better off doing the same after he had the Navy release the money to her. True, Alejandro has to find her when he wakes up, but he's a resourceful guy who could. Monserrat would always have been better off putting some serious distance between herself and Gracie.

Eli, leave it to you to make us smile "When the money starts to run out your friends might consider pulling the plug" and" I hate more faith in my feline friends than I do in Nadia,Victor, Montse, Alex and JL, the cats might be a lot smarter than this lot" certainly did the trick.

Thought your recap was great!

I don't know if EZ loves Carlota but he certainly likes her. He appears to sport a genuine smile and exude great affection for her. If he is acting, he deserves great credit.

I gather Victor and Nadia think Monse is dead? Otherwise, there is no excuse for them not trying to contact her. I am surprised they survived but like Emarie and others are fervenly hoping Nadia does not take the offer to play.

I am so happy Monica put Refugio out of his misery so quickly. I show as much scorn for his treatment of Esme as I did for Dimi. My hub always says neglect is one of the cruelest forms of abuse and I agree. He is breaking the heart and spirit of a loving soul who does not deserve it.

I thought the JL/Monse scene was splendid. Monse played the innocent temptress bringing JL to the edge of sanity and desire. When she came up behind him, their faces close to the camera, it appeared JL was pushed to the brink of control. To me he appeared utterly desperate (but I like the character so it was not offputting). I thought Angelique exuded fire and ice in equal amounts and did this to perfection. I thought Teresa was her best work but she has been amazing here.

That said, I agree UA. Monse is never going to love JL as she did. That chance was lost forever.

Judy, loved your “His magical medical enchantment is getting pricey!”. Indeed!

Thank you again Eli!

Diana

Refugio looking to betray his pregnant wife is the ONLY interesting move this character has ever made. So, while Esme deserves better, at least Refugio is being given something to do beside hyperventilate and offer to beat someone/anyone up.

I love "puppy lake" -- sounds both soothing and totally sinister.

So I hurry to work for my early meeting...and it is cancelled. Why can't people do this the day before??!! So few minutes on my hands and coffee to re-read you wonderful recap Eli.

EZ to me is our most complex character. You almost want to hope there is a secret agenda because otherwise poor Carlotta will pay the price in the end. At the beginning of this, I remember noting that she may well turn out to be that tragic character who somehow, though a good person, just doesn't cut the break. Wish she didn't appear THAT happy.

As for EZ specifically, I agree, I think there is a slow burn to take Pedo down, but he's enjoying the perks in the meantime. I honestly think he loves Carlotta: there seems to be something genuine there. We aren't seeing side looks, or eye rolling when he walks away from her. And I think in 7 years, she may have gotten a vibe if he wasn't sincere.

I think we have the perfect example of a real "mafia" marriage. Loving father and family man (who would adore his kids if they had any). Yet his "business" is to deal with the shady side of deals and murder if necessary. Only difference is that Carlotta doesn't fully know the dark side of EZ's job ( or does she?) EZ is the real Don Corleone of Azul.

You just know that Nadia playing the concert will hit Pedo's radar, and more importantly he will find out about Victoria. No big deal on the marriage because I'm sure all parties were declared legally dead and that would have voided the marriages in good faith. I agree, looks like Amelia and Pedo have a positive marriage of convenience, so he won't want Nadia back, just "his daughter". Maybe that Cat Army could sharpen their claws and do some damage to that sicko.

Daisynjay

I'm glad that EZ has given Carlotta 7 happy years. I thought for sure he would start demeaning her and treating her badly, but he's treated her like a queen all these years. Even if/when she finds out he's an evil, murderous criminal, she can't deny that she had a very good run with him. What else would she have been doing these years? Feeling like the spare wheel with the little family of Monse, her son, and Rosario. Or living with Gracie and getting insulted every day. All in all, I think she got a pretty good deal, and should be able to hold her head high when she eventually leaves or loses (to death or jail) her duplicitous hubby.

Eli, what an entertaining recap! A cat army! Would not that be the best? Silent cat feet with meowing all the way!

Refugio needs to shape up real quick or go. Did I say I never liked the character? Yeah, since I say that about almost all of them.

It was good seeing what happened to Nadia and Victor even though I don't like them either. ITA with "Don't do it , Nadia". She ended up blind from the plane crash caused by the endless delays due to Ale. The plane would not have been attacked if they would have left earlier. Would it not be pathetic if Pedro found her due to a concert she would be doing to pay for Ale's maintenance? One costly friendship there.

JL and Montse look like they are on the fast track to get back together though Montse said only a friendship was possible. Sure . . .

Looks like both Amelia and Pedro understand a marriage of convenience.

Carlota is sure having fun. For her sake I hope Ezequiel can keep ahead of the law and Pedro's schemes.

JudyB, that "magical medical enchantment" hit Ale's situation on the head. Very funny!

On we go! I hope we get a lot more time in Buenos Aires. It looks very inviting.

Jarifa

Thank you, Eli, you captured all the important parts of last night's episode.
One brief scene that you didn't mention was the one with Nadia at Ale's bed side, begging him to wake up for Laurito's sake and apologizing for not telling anyone in Aguazul that he is alive because they were afraid of what Pedro might do to Victoria.
Both Victor and Nadia think that Montse is dead and probably assume that Laurito is being raised by either Rosario or Graciela (shudder).

I think that EZ does love Carlota, but that's his only redeeming quality. Since I haven't watched for a while, I'm not sure, but has he done something truly unforgivable, like kill someone?

Daisy, you took the words out of my mouth about slimy JL - he's becoming more creepy every day. And Montse telling Esme that she made it clear to him that all she can give him is her friendship?? Oh, please, she was making goo goo eyes at him the entire time she was there.

UA, I agree with you that things will never be the same between JL and Montse. First of all, because they are not the same, as you very well put it. And that's not only because 7 years have passed - JL's dark side is slowly taking over - he can be capable of anything once he finds out that Ale is alive.

And that brings me to my last point. Who do you think that will see Nadia play the piano? Pedro would be the obvious choice, but what if it's Graciela or JL? She would find a twisted way to use this information for money (that she could get from Pedro). And JL might think that if Nadia is alive, Ale is alive, too. Will he run to tell Montse all about it? I highly doubt that.

Hi Eli,
I always look forward to your Wednesday night recaps since they are always so smart and funny. Loved the advise to J-L to get a cat, your astute comment that an army of cats would probably be smarter than Victor, Nadia, and Ale, and all your remarks about Refugio, but my favorite line of the recap would probably go to

Puppy Lake is calling....

I had a big laugh at that one!

Judy B--I agree with others that your comment about Ale's pricey enchantment was so funny!

Diana--I am with you on the J-L Montse scene. I really loved it and I thought it was sexy, emotional, and moving. I"m sure I will be won over by Alejandro again when he wakes up from his beauty sleep, but I am really loving J-L these days and happy to see him wooing Montse.

I also think EZ really loves Carlotta and has been a good husband to her for these seven years. I think Daisynjay's comment above is right about their relationship being a mafia marriage.

Thanks again, Eli! You always make your recaps so entertaining and fun to read.

One thing that could have been truly telling about EZ would have been an order to actually harm Joaquin's daughter. That would have been the ultimate test of whether he is truly evil or not.

The only murder we ever saw him commit was the drug trafficker who tried to rape Maria. He stated he has killed before, but we have no idea whether he was lying or whether he has killed in the line of duty (either police or military).

He does look like retired military; his appearance is always spit-and-polished. If he was a military officer at any time in the past, his verbal abuse of Adolfo's weakness would be very much in line with a military drill sergeant's behavior.

First in line to kick Refugio in the huevos.

What a hilarious recap, especially about the cat army. This novela is so obsessed with the idea that people must be coupled, and coupled with just one possible person at that. I mean really JL? You have tons of money and are an able-bodied man. Go take a trip around the world. You might find at least one woman that makes your heart sing. Ridiculous.

Poor Esme. They've made sure to give her the most unholy maternity clothes and her hair looks terrible on top of making her huge. I hope she dumps Refugio so hard.

Was tickled to see cute little Alina again. I love that little girl!

Thanks so much, Eli, for this hilarious romp of a recap.

Like JudyB, I had to smile at the idea that waking your parents up at 6am was something that might put a kid in jeopardy. As I recall, we thought of waking at 6am as "sleeping in."

Poor Nadia. Figuratively blind and now actually blind. The horror potential makes me shudder -- Pedro sneaking into a room and watching her in person the way he used to watch her on his computer. Yikes.

And yes, of course, as Emarie has guessed, someone will take a photo at the concert and maybe write a little blurb about it. And someone in Aguazul will read it over breakfast and ...

If those memories of the accident were meant to be in Alejandro's haloed brain, then there is a lot of activity in there. Maybe the doctors have tuned into the wrong channel...

I had the same thought as Urban -- Alejandro may wake up when they pull the plug.

As for Refugio, maybe this is meant to be his turn to be dense and oblivious*, just as Esmeralda was dense and oblivious when she jumped up on stage and POLED even though she had promised her husband she would not. She eventually realized she was wrong, and the two got past it. So maybe they'll get past this too.

*yes, he's almost always dense and oblivious -- just not in this particular way.

The director seems fond of the shot where A stands behind B, gets very close, and whispers into B's ear. It is a visual of great intimacy, but is often accompanied by dialogue that belies the body language:

Last night, it was Montse (A) telling JL (B) she could never offer him more than friendship.

On Tuesday, it was Refugio (A) begging Monica (B) to tell him the name of the man she was in love with.

Fabiola (A) likes to drape herself around JL's shoulders (B).

Way back at the beginning of the story, it was Montse (A) mistaking Alejandro (B) for JL on the jetty and hugging him from behind.

It IS an interesting -- if stereotypical -- shot. The Patio gets to watch the faces of both A and B, while neither one can see the other. This opens the door to misunderstandings, machinations, and all kinds of tomfoolery.

UA, what a keen observation on EZ. Maybe, just maybe, he has been a deep mole for the military all this time? Pedo has actually never gotten his own hands dirty, and using a lot of different people to do his dirty work. But at what point would the good guys pull the plug?

Hey, I'm going with anything here to just not have to watch a melt down with Carlotta if she finds out anything different. And then Graceless gloating over her hurt.

Daisynjay

What a treat, Eli. Well done and very entertaining. Puppy Lake? I'm intrigued but I'm confident that I'm not wanting details. Maria de Andrade speaks for me:

"I love "puppy lake" -- sounds both soothing and totally sinister."

As for pulling the plug... what plug? He's not on a ventilator and I saw no signs of artificial cardiac pacing. That's not to say that maintaining someone in such a state doesn't require a tremendous amount of effort which necessitates huge expenditures, but apparently no plugs to unplug.

Monica would have won points with me had she been a bit more specific in letting Refugio down. Sure he's a jerk and a louse, but she's going to have to work with him. Why not just say that she never considered a more intimate relationship with him because... ta da... he's married?

I found myself almost cracking up at Montse's and JL's conversation of oneupsmanship:

"I really had it bad and really really suffered."

"Yes, no doubt, but I really had it worse and really really suffered more."

Yay, Alina/Lina/Rhoda is back. What a cute kid and we already know that this tyke can really bring it. Will dorky little Laurito be able to hold is own?

I've no doubt that Nadia will perform, I'm just hoping that she's learned a new concert piece.

UA,

"How emotionally invested are most men in their children, especially before they start walking and talking?"

based on 40 plus years experience as a family physician, I'd say... most men?...a lot.

Carlos

Thanks so much for the awesome recap!! I missed last night's epi and your recap makes me want to watch it all the more!!

Eli,

Your recaps always pack so much spark and sizzle! It's been said but I loved this zinger:

poor Nadia lost her sight in the accident-which is a small price to pay in order to be away from her bat shit crazy husband.

Hahaha!!!

And I'm going to cut Nadia a little slack because of said blindness but really? Teaching piano without ONE PIECE OF MUSIC? Either that kid is a prodigy (and it sure didn't sound like it) or she is the worst piano teacher in Vuenos Aires. I also hope she's been practicing for 7 years because Moonlight Sonata is not concert material. Ok I guess I didn't really cut her any slack at all.

Looks like Finas hair and makeup people have been working on poor Esme. Hard to make her look bad but they certainly aren't doing her any favors. I love her bit where she counts as she walks up the two steps like she's climbing Mt Everest! I bet this actress is loving hamming it up with the chips and chocolate. She's doing a great job.

My last snark: do we have to hear that peppy Argentine tango every time we flash to comatose Ale? It seems incongruent!!!

Mil veces thank you, Eli!!! Well done!

I don't think Pedro will be in the audience but (spec, not spoil) if Nadia performs there will be a photo that will turn up on the internet and he will find out. However, someone else will also and contact her with the news that Monserrat is alive.

Katy, you just made me imagine Sebastian Rulli doing the tango. Not sure that was a good thing....

As to Nadia's blindness it made me think of Victoria Ruffo's character in Abtazame Muy Fuerte whose villainous husband watched her taking care of personal business when she thought of the love of her life. But Pedro exceeded that level of perversion long ago.

The multi-colored pearl necklace Rosario is wearing lately was last seen in ENDA worn by Allison Lozz.

Thanks, Eli.

That was an odd dance that Mony and JL were doing around each other. Speaking of cats, Mony reminded me of a car as she was purring and rubbing up against JL as she swayed around him. She seemed to be acting quite seductively. Well, it has been SEVEN years , and the girl has needs. She got used to some regular good loving with Sleeping Beauty. Currently, it appears that only Carlotta is getting any good loving.

I get a kick out of the tango music every time we head to a scene in Argentina. ...but nobody is dancing there. Ahh..sleep that knits up the raveled sleeve of care. Ale will probably awaken after Mony and JL have gotten together and formed a happy, family unit with Little Larry. Que lastima. It is like tennis match...Mony is in JL's court..then Ale has her...now back to JL...Is anyone keeping score?...Love ????

I'm laughing here at all the comments about Ale in the hospital of glorious telenovela heroes, looking fully coiffed and totally guapo. Because in Mexican novela land, all hospital scenes are just antechambers to either eventual additional glorious romance or heartfelt death bed scenes. And peppy tango music! All soaps do this but hats off to the Mexicans who have brought the whole thing to an entirely new level of kitschy fun.

And laughing too at the business of JL and Monse not being able to ever find anyone else in this whole wide world. Very The Bold and The Beautiful, where, with few exceptions, folks are content to bed down within their own immediate gene pool even though they are living in fabulous LA!

I hope Padre Anselmo comes back. And Josefina -- please!

I wish Esme and Refugio no harm but they never really had any chemistry and I'd be more than happy to see her hook up with someone else.

No not car...Mony reminded me of a C-A-T..meow

Hello, Anonymous. Not my task to meddle for Demetrios but it's okay, I would think for folks to do their thing and we can all be nice even if the occasional stumble or TMI leads to discomfort. I do it ALL the time and then banish myself for a week or more. Not that Demetrios needed to do that -- or you, for that matter.

Sometimes things go a bit far because, let's face it, anyone sticking with this one for this length of viewing is committed and commitment sometimes carries it's own price, right?

And novelas tend to alter the molecular structure not to mention the brain patterns! The point made was bit extreme but interesting anyway.

Let's all tumble into the Tundra of roomy diaper storage and novela love and continue on down the road together. Many many more weeks to get through. Cheers.

There is NO other site quite like this one in all of The Internets. It's an amazing place -- unidos para sempre, companheiros e companheiras. Viva Che(coslovakia)! as an old poster of my old youth used to proclaim.

Esme should be watching "Siempre." In that novela,a character (Gaby) is pregnant and looking spectacular in lovely, colorful maternity clothes..the prettiest I've ever seen....with beautiful hair and makeup.

Novela Maven, I enjoyed your comments on the scenes showing one character standing behind another. You are so right. We have seen a lot of those scenes , and they provide the opportunity to see the facial expressions of both characters at the same time.

Maria- Very well said. Anon- I hope, aside from the help understanding these shows in Spanish, the other reason you come to this site is because it's such a unique space online, where intelligent and funny people enjoy a silly vice with each other, in a respectful and kind way. We don't always agree with each other. We often tease each other, especially when we get to know each others personalities a bit. And when we disagree, we try to do that in the least insulting way possible. So, please don't take offense if someone makes a very human stumble every now and then and says something that may rub you the wrong way. Just ignoring it is probably the best way to go most of the time.

Demetrios, from what I've learned of him so far, is warm, enthusiastic, intelligent, lives in Eastern Europe, and is still in high school. His world view will likely be quite different than many of us on this blog. But how wonderful that we get to share such a random hobby with folks who are so different from us!

Susanlynn- What's even more impressive about Gabi on Siempre is that the actress is pregnant for real, and not just a skinny actress with a fake pregnancy belly (Monse).

I want to thank everyone for your thoughtful responses to the anonymous posting. Political discussion just seem to trigger a strong response from people but we have a long history of gracious acceptance here and I would hate to see that change.

On my "magical medical enchantment" I was just playing off NovelaMaven's image the day before in her recap. She really did bring out the fairy tale aspect of our Alejandro's long-time coma.

Now, if someone would lean up behind me and breathe into my ear that he "just wanted to be friends"...hmmmm...as long as it isn't that dolt Refugio!

Oh and don't throw tomatoes....but I have to hold Esmeralda to account fir eating totally wrong during her embarazo and reaping some uncomfortable consequences weight-wise. Potato chips and candy is no way to nourish a growing baby. I don't think that's funny; just as I don't think "humorous" scenes of people getting sloshed as a way of dealing with emotional setbacks is funny. NOT!

Sermonette from Little Goody Two Shoes has now ended.

Vivi...Yes, I saw her on Hoy a few weeks ago. I wonder if they speeded up Siempre due to her real life pregnancy. Did you watch DA? I caught a few reruns, and the actress played Big Ed's wife. She looked so different with long, straight platinum blonde hair playing a villain. .

I am always surprised to see how tight some pregnant women wear their clothes these days. It seems so uncomfy to me, but that appears to be the style currently in the U.S.

"Now, if someone would lean up behind me and breathe into my ear that he "just wanted to be friends"...hmmmm...as long as it isn't that dolt Refugio!"

HAHAHA!! Judy, what a great point you make!
Who does that anyway, aside from tn people?
"I want to be only friends" (while I undress you with my eyes and almost nibble your earlobes).

Judy and Adriana- You two are cracking me up. LOL!

Good morning, Little Goody ...and you are a little goody. I LOVE potato chips, so I never buy them. That's what happens when you grow up on a potato farm....a great appreciation for any type of spuds . I agree that it is unfortunate the way the writers have chosen to portray Esme's pregnancy. I guess it is her time to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune and doltish Refugio who seems to be portraying a guy who can only love her when she is trim, fit, and capable of twirling around a pole. Jerk. Why would she want him ?Esme,,time to find a guy who loves you for your kindness, intelligence, and your sweet, good soul.

The fact that my comment was removed and that you
have circled the wagons just goes to prove my idea about
this blog. The fact that none of you were offended by the
comment made by Demetrios is quite telling. It's too bad
that you were not as understanding about my "human
stumble" with the use of the word "garbage", for which
I do apologize, as you were with the negative comments
about our country. I have ignored offensive comments
most of the time, but I found this particular one especially
offensive.

Judyb..yes, I like that scene you are suggesting...and let's add a little neck kissing...That would be nice, too.

How is the weather there? It rained all day yesterday and was overcast and chilly this morning , but now the sun seems to be trying to come out. yay.

Regarding the six a.m. wake up call by children...yes, that Is sleeping in when little ones are in the house...yawn. I need a couple days to really sleep in.....like 7 or 8.

Anon- It's not that we weren't taken aback by Demetrios' comment, it's that we know he's young and isn't a malicious person, and chose not to make a big deal about it by letting it go. The comment itself wasn't a personal attack on anyone on the blog, this isn't a blog for political talk, so no on felt the need to make a big deal about it. Hope that explains it for you?

Anon 12:36, there's really no need to get bent out of shape, it's a comment on a blog about Mexican telenovelas, so chill. I mean in the big scheme of things what does it really matter? The thing I love about this blog is that everyone gets treated with respect-and that's not something you will find on other sites.

Thanks for this great recap Eli. I can't comment now but will later in the day.

Susanlynn -- I know, right?, in terms of pregnancy and looking good. I felt gorgeous throughout my pregnancy -- well, until the last month when I got so huge that I recall one young couple laughing at me on the street while I waddled on down the road with my husband. It's a wonderful time in a person's life, unless they don't feel well, and I know many men who will tell you that a woman is never so beautiful as when pregnant. Hair, skin, nails -- outlook! expectation -- having an excuse to just tell it like it is -- and for many years now some really nice clothing options. Esme needs to get it together.

As for EZ, I am still catching up, but am enjoying the comments here about what he may or may not be up to and what he signifies.

About to sign off too for awhile
-- I just realized that my real alive and working hours are between midnight and 11 am and that anything beyond that might signify my own cocktail hour. Which signals Fabiola moments galore. I don't like her. As soon as she turned up, the story went off the rails.

I think the story always suffers greatly when Sebastian Rulli is away for any length of time. In prison, in hospital, in BA! LOL -- private Brasilian joke that last one. Ditto Daniela Castro. These two anchor the story. Along with Dimi and Fina.

And after some hours of thought and housekeeping have come to the conclusion that Puppy Lake is in fact entirely sinister. Shiver and penny dreadful.

Was telling my husband -- who's like a really really nice Pedro Medina type -- about this site. He wasn't really listening because he was busy plotting world domination while polishing up his Scorpio neckpiece and looking for his hardware. But I did tell him that there is this amazing web site where really brilliant writers go to recap Mex. novelas for reasons that defy credulity
-- He was like, Verdad? No creio, Where's my dinner? and my first born hijo? -- In between sobbing gulps, I told him how I kept expecting at any minute we'd all get busted for having the most intimate, literate, and specific site on the web. Like a prohibition club about to get busted by JL and Refugio.

I would so love to know what the relationship is between the producers of these shows and the Mexican Board of Tourism.

Please don't tell me to "chill". I had no idea what
Demetrios' age is. Maybe it's a good thing for him to learn to be more careful with his comments. In reference
to the comment about how intelligent you all are, it seems to me that such intelligent people should be
able to express themselves without all the vulgarity. Also,
I said that I could not understand how so much analysis
is being given to a soap opera. Yes, I don't have to read the blog and will not do so in the future.

Anon -- It's okay to get upset and you have had an impact. But let's let you in and give you love while we do the same for Deme.

Life is short though it can feel real long. Like this soap opera. Be cool and yr own best friend.

What we're all watching is an art form and a really good soap opera. It's not War and Peace but it is a legitimate labor of love and art.

Where I come from, we say it's going stir you up. It's supposed to. It's visuals and music and great costumes and gorgeous locations and scenery. And a cast of very very talented actors who committed themselves to this. And crew. How cool would this cast and crew party be if we could all go?

Don't get angry and go away. Hang in and be known without anger.

I don't know if you've noticed but the folks who do these recaps are all amazing writers who could be doing all manner of other writing. They are doing this because they a appear to love it and probably to love all of us.

Be well. That sounds patronizing when I don't mean it to.

And, yeah, USA for sure ... The surest way to get a voice is give yourself a name and come on back.

If I end up getting banned, I'm going to drink your milkshake though. For real, love love.

Eli - Your recap is downright effervescent. Love it.

My take on EZ: He seemed lonely in the early days, crushing on Esme and man-crushing on Pedro. had no problems killing even before he met Pedro and has always been corrupt (that’s how he’s acquired the expensive jewelry collection). He’d been under the radar till he saw his star could rise with Pedro’s influence, but that nasty Russian roulette Pedro made him play turned his crush to hate. EZ is very patient, waiting for just the right moment (when he has secured governorship himself?) to get even. Carlota has ended Pedro's loneliness and he's thrilled to be in the Aguazul elite set with her. But if he has to make a choice between hurting Carlota or advancing himself, he'd hurt Carlota.

JL's obsession is annoying but I don't find it creepy. He has been very straight-up with Monse that he wants to recover what they had. He’s not even trying to scam her with the “let’s just be friends” BS. Whatever happens next is up to Monse.

Victoria preparing juice for her parents was too cute. Nadia and Victor seemed to have done a good job with her (of course, I'm partial cause I liked “Alina” in MPV). As for Laurito, it seems to me Mama Rosario is making him to be a little do-nothing. I'd like to know if he has any chores at all.

My guess is Ale will wake up precisely at the moment that JL makes a move to kiss Monse.

Anon - I love that at Caray we can give our unvarnished opinion, with respect.

Im sorry if i offendended anyone with that comment. It was just an opinion,i merely compared the concept of " Where people fight ,the third person benefits" to EZ because it seemed to be the case for him.He is a master manipulator to me,a chameleon waiting to strike.I hope he just ends up being a tragic hero and not a crazy manipulator. And i have to wonder why does EZ hate Pedro so much,is it something in the past? And no just bad treatment doesnt cut it ,it has to be some revenge we are not aware off,and i also dont believe that he just wants to serve the justice.

UA: Haha! Now I will picture Ale doing the tango every time I hear that music!

NM: how clever of you to notice that A/B technique. I actually rewound that exact sequence last night because Montsys words were so opposite of her actions I thought I'd heard wrong. She said something like we will never be more than friends but her body language said something completely different.

No problem, Demetrio. You do sound like a nice young man. Thank you for trying, Maria. Love to you too.

Eli, sitting at the doctor's office I got a chance to enjoy your witty recap and not think of the shots I was waiting to get. As a mom of four young kids I loved your line "I think that any child that wakes anyone up at that hour of the day is just asking to be put up for adoption" In my case they tend to do that only on weekends and holidays. I wish it was the same on regular school days!

I was relieved to see Vic, Nadia and little Vicky alive and well. Since it is a TN hopefully Nadia's blindness will not be permanent. It is good though that they ate portaying her as strong and not being set back by her disability.

It was also good they were able to salvage the briefcase with the money, otherwise Ale may have headed to "Puppy Lake" a long time ago!

You also had me laughing at PAUSE* Let me just make a suggestion here, Jose Luis, please go to the pound and get a cat, or maybe lots of cats and then you could form a kitty army and never feel alone" I felt that JL was coming on a little too strong for having earlier said he was going to do things differently this time around. Trying to get Montse to say she still loved him. Too pushy if you ask me.

Well we have Nadia and family back. Dare we hope Fina will be back this week too?

Carlos, your "
What a cute kid and we already know that this tyke can really bring it. Will dorky little Laurito be able to hold is own?

I've no doubt that Nadia will perform, I'm just hoping that
she's learned a new concert piece." Had me laughing Laurito seems a little dorky but he's pretty cute too :-)

Maricruz

I am losing my grip -- La Marina is The Navy! Am I wrong? A Marinha? The Navy -- along with Admirals and ranks and the rest of it.

I think this is what is meant in this story. La Marina.

Demetrios -- Wherever you are, a hug. War is war and empire and commerce are just that. You did nothing wrong and said nothing terrible. I certainly got your point and it disrespected no one since the beginning of the world.

There should be points taken off for ladies of certain age who have trouble letting go of the week's third rail -- you are not one of them. Look up the term "third rail" if you are not American or if you are. It's that element in a subway or train line that you don't want to touch because it will shock you to death.

It can happen to anyone. And the more passionate you are about anything the greater the chances.

And just to say that Nadia and Vitor are boring on any continent at any time. Wake up, Alejandro!

PS: Puppy lake is supposed to be sinister, remember when farmers used to take unwanted kittens down to the river to drown them? Puppy lake refers to the same thing...

Yeah,no worries:) .Anyway i wonder about Dim and Bruno Gamboa. What did Pedro do to clear Dim of all guilt? I do hope its a cold case by now because Pedro can easily convince that judge to try reopening the case again,in the end meaning Dim has a risk of going to jail,if Gracie decides to backstab him.Dim still killed the guy( in self defence) and it would risk his current Navy career greatly.

This is not a spoiler since I have no clue what will happen. But if you look at other TN's, the script may be alreay stolen from them regarding the course of the remainder of Robo. Specifically, Alec, JL and our lovely, confused Monse.
First, the fact that Alec is having flashbacks in a coma indicates to me he is about to wake up without amnesia. This may take months of rehab but once Nadia and Victor tell him that Montse and his 7 year son are still alive, he will want to go back and claim his rights. I am assuming that Monse never had Alec declared dead legally but 7 years have passed and she could remarry.
JL will tell her that she can be happy with him and she will agree to marry. They will be in a church and when the padre asks if there is any reason for them not to be joined until death parts them, Ale (and perhaps Padre Anselmo) will walk into the church and the "acepto's" will not be uttered. EZ will arrest Ale, and a huge legal battle will rage on both the fraud and murder charges. Many episodes to go. Love it.

LOL -- Just looked up Puppy Lake on Urban Dictionary and ... How you mock us! All these old broads trying to act like Oprah in the midst of a house brawl and in fact ...

Seriously, Ale needs to wake up and Graciela needs to go back to Liberace kitchen wear.

Eli,

"...remember when...?"

I specifically said:

Puppy Lake? I'm intrigued but I'm confident that I'm not wanting details.

Thanks a lot.

Demetrios,

...i have to wonder why does EZ hate Pedro so much..."

Well, if I were forced to hold a gun to my head and pull the trigger, that would pretty much do it for me.

Carlos

Sorry Carlos.....

Eli: loved the recap. Thanks. I take it there wasn’t anything important in the scene with EZ/Pedro/Alpo because you didn’t mention it and neither has anyone else?

First tuned in at the scene where Vic and Nadia were at Ale’s bedside. So happy they survived. Then I noticed Nadia. “OMG, is she blind?” Figured she’d lost the baby in the crash if it was bad enough to blind her. When I started watching the ep from the beginning, I was glad to see little V was alive and well.

Don’t know anyone who is blind, but does Nadia really need her cane when she’s with someone else?

Are the writer’s deliberately making JL creepy? Or are we misinterpreting what they are trying to do?

Pedro has already achieved what he wanted without a child. Why would he want Little V now unless as a revenge tool against Nadia and Vic? Would he even want Nadia around? Doesn’t her being alive invalidate his marriage to Amelia? Scandal time. He’ll definitely have to kill them. No, I mean, have them killed since, I suspect, Pedro is really a big-a$$ coward.

Interesting seeing the sanitarium doc from MEPS.

Posting my comment before finishing reading everyone else’s, so some of the above may have already been commented on.

Nanette

Nanette, Pedro is cray cray, he would take Victoria only to get back at Nadia and Victor, I have no doubt he would take that little girl just to torture Nadia.

Nanette- I was just hanging out with a blind guy this week. I went to this even for single professionals in DC to talk about being single in DC. LOL! Anyway, some of the women started talking about the difference between creepy pickup/opening lines and good ones, so a guy and girl were asked to role play what a creepy pickup line would sound/look like. He was selected as the guy. His line: "I can't see much, but I can see that you're smokin' hot!" We all busted out laughing. :) In any case, I chatted with him quite a bit during the evening, and he had his can with him. It really doesn't matter if you're hanging on to the arm/hand of someone. They are usually next to you and what you need when you are walking is to be able to tell what's in front of you and how the floor/ground will change/raise/lower/shift, and if there are any obstacles before you get to each step. That's what the cane does that a person or seeing eye dog cannot.

Sorry for the typos. Cane, not can.

Thanks for the recap Eli.
Refu needs to man up and be truthful with Esme. He already confessed that he has feelings for Monica, and Esme has her suspicions about another woman. Even though nothing has happened between Refu and Monica, feelings have changed, and it's not fair to Esme or Monica. The truth always comes out, and it would be better for Refu to fess up. But he won't because he was rejected by Monica, so he will "settle" for Esme, and they will both be miserable. Esme deserves better.

JL is moving in fast. Hd revealed some if his obsessive tendencies last night. I'm not sure if Montse accepted the dinner invitation out of guilt. Maybe she will fall for JL again. Then, BOOM! Ale shows up!

Happy to see that Nadia, Vic and Vicki are alive. Not sure I agree with keeping it a secret that Ale is alive. Couldn't they have found a way to let Rosy know. Just sayin'.

Back to work..hasta pronto!

Vivi and/or UA: Do you recall what ep it was where Mons stopped Gracie from slapping her? I think, UA, that you recapped it.

I guess that we cannot hope for Nad to be clever enough to wear a blonde wig to perform.

I love this TN, but I love this site more. You all are the best, the wisest, wittiest, funniest and friendliest.
Yola

Maricruz: I was just saying to Flaco now that we've seen Ale, Vic and Nadia, Fina can't be far behind (or Maria, for that matter)--unless the writers are wanting Dim/Monica to be in a relationship first.

Demetrios: How funny!! I was thinking this morning (I seem to think about TNs all the time) about Dim and whether he is out of the woods with respect to the favor that Pedro did for him. Gracie paid him back by lying about Ale, but does that wipe the slate clean for Dim, too? I hope so.

Nanette- I remember the scene, but can't remember exactly when was the first time Monse blocked one of Gracie's slaps. It might have been after she found out Gracie had been Ben's lover.

Thanks for the good vibes))))))))) Yola. That's how I feel about this site also.

It was Episode 50.

In looking at the exchanges between Monserrat and her mother my blood started to boil again. If you're ever tempted to think that Gracie loves her daughter, remember this episode!

Ever since Mony finally started to proactively deflect Gracie's head jabs , Gracie has resorted to occasionally giving her own head a jab. I get a big kick out of those scenes. They seem to underline Gracie's frustration of things not going her way and people not doing what she wants them to do. I kind of feel sorry for the joyless, loveless person she is. It must be sad to be her.

Hello all.....thanks for the recapp....i have been following the novela now since it started and somewhere along the way i lost an episode or two....my husband and i were thinking the other day....did they ever find Padre Anselmo's body? did anyone ever look for him? Is he dead....i don't recall any mention of this....just a hand in a box.....maybe not his....
I also don't like to see Monse hooking up with JLuis.....it's
too sad for me to watch....

Anon...we're all wondering about Padre Anselmo. His body hasn't been found. We're hoping he's still alive somewhere. But we haven't been given any clues.

IMHO, Don't think anything can be gained by Refugio confessing feelings he has for Monica to Esme.
If he had a real affair, yes, but feelings, no. Nothing to be gained there. If Monica tells Esme then he'll have to talk about it, but I don't think she will.
I think it is a slight bit Monica's fault for asking him if he thought she was hot that day he first encountered her years ago when she was playing Sargent Carter-but she couldn't have known what a simpleton he was.
Esme must be bored to tears, anyway. I hope they patch it together.

Demetrios-Dim is NOT out of the woods as far as the favor Pedro did for them, as Pedro reminded Gracie in a recent episode. I also dread for that to bite him in the fanny soon.

I don't know how I started watching the TNs and reading the recaps-but I love it, as many have said today. Wouldn't be doing it if it wasn't for this blog. It's a gift!

Well, looking forward to seeing some of those light bulbs on Ale's head start flashing soon.
Right, Carlos, no plug to unplug-these TN's always have them on an O2 mask but no respirator. It's puzzling. They don't have a medical expert to consult?
Anon at 6:37; NOPE. Nobody found Padre's body, Ale went to look for him and just found all his chickens starved to death.

Yes, I agree that this site is a wonderful place frequented by witty, wise, and wonderful folks. We have our blog mom Jane Peppler (the artist formerly known as Melinama) to thank for creating Caraycaray. I noticed that she recapped Rico today.

Thanks Vivi and UA.

UA: I found the ep recap. It was for Cap 84 (Mar 10). I went to Univision to watch the scene, but they have a totally different ep playing as Cap 84.

You're right. Episode 50 was the one Vivi mentioned, but something different happened there: Gracie got a slap in but Monserrat gave back later with a symbolic washing her hands of her.

I love getting episodes like those.
