Bring it! Alejandro vs Pedro, the fight is on. Lo Que La Vida Me Robo 161 Wed. June 25th.2014

Patio peeps, hiiii! I just wanted to let you all know that I miss snarking with you but I was without cable/internet for over a week, and while I can read the recaps at work I can't comment because of the volume of work I have, I've missed you all and I've read all the awesome recaps and comments! I hope to be able to get back to commenting soon, but right now work makes it impossible, anyhoo, here is the recap for tonight's episode, enjoy! Ah, I should mention that I watched this episode with my sisters and will be adding some of their reactions to the show in this recap.

When you mess up, propose!

We start tonight's episode where we left off last night-Dimitrio has proposed to Monica, because now that he has slept with his ex-wife Josefina he knows for sure that any feelings he had for her are now dead (shifty eyes), he explains to Monica that he and his sister are in the same situation, both needed to face their past, Montserrat found that she still loved Alejandro, and he on the other hand learned that his feelings for Monica are real, he tells her that he wants to spend the rest of his life with her. She tells him that he betrayed her not only as a woman but as his superior, why did he keep from her the fact that Alejandro was back inAgua Azul?

Dimitrio explains that he did not want her involved in the mess, Alejandro is family, the father of his nephew, his sisters husband, what was he supposed to do? Monica softens and agrees to marry him, let me just add that this kind of behavior from men is what drives women to do bad things, things that land them their own episodes of Snapped.

You will pay!

Rosario has come to pay Graciela a visit, she tells her that she will pay for the seven years her son spent in a coma, away from her, and his wife and child. Graciela tries to escape responsibility by saying the accident was not her fault but Rosario is not having it, she reminds Graciela that if she had not lied to the judge her son would never have had to go on the run and the accident would never have happened. Graciela says that she is now team Ale and has talked the judge into re-opening the case so that Alejandro has the chance to prove that he is innocent. Rosario tells Graciela that she does not believe her and that the only way she can make amends is by saying bye-bye to the Almonte inheritance. She then leaves when Carlota comes in to ask why they are arguing, as always Graciela refuses to tell her what she and Rosario argued about.

Nothing says welcome to the world like your parents fighting:

In a hospital room in Agua Azul Esmeralda is still throwing a fit over Refugio seeing the baby, she asks him to leave and tells him he has no right over the child (oh really?!), finally the other women in the room get Refugio to leave by telling him that he is stressing Esme out and that that will harm her milk production, he leaves but he is not a happy camper. Montse wonders why Esme is so mad at her hubby, Esme tells her that Refugio cheated on her with Monica! A nurse comes in and takes the baby away in a little cart which my sister notes looks unsafe, "what if they hit a bump or something?! That baby would be DEAD"! The two women continue to talk and soon the topic of Alejandro comes up, Esme tries to pretend that she had no idea that Alejandro was back but Montse calls her on it and tells her that she is aware that Esme was sent to gather information on Alejandro by Jose Luis-Esme apologizes, she says that she owed JL her loyalty and that she had no idea that he had withheld information from Montse, she tells her that she is now on her side and that she can count on her for anything.

My name is Alejandro and I am not a vegetable:

Pedro is at his home office, probably working on ways to torture kittens for profit when he notices a shadow over him, "it's you" he says, "yes, it is me" answers Alejandro, "I am here to tell you that I'm not in a coma any more (no, duh, says my sister), I wanted you to know that I'm in Agua Azul before you heard it from someone else", Pedro tries to threaten Alejandro by telling him that by the time he is done with him he will wish he was still rotting in a hospital bed, Alejandro does some threatening as well and says "be ready for what's coming Pedro, I wont be happy until you are in the same place I was, until you lose your money, your reputation and your family. I will be the first to say a toast at Nadia and Victor's wedding" Oh snap. This makes Pedro angry enough to pull out a gun, Ale then reminds him that killing him there would be a bad idea as Victoria is home-oh that's real smart Alejandro, go pick a fight with a crazy in a place where a blind woman and helpless child could be harmed. Real smart. Alejandro leaves but takes a chance to tell Nadia that Victor can't wait to be with her again. Ummm, okay, I have a real problem with this story line, why does Nadia have to stay with Pedro, she's not a criminal, there's nothing wrong with leaving your abusive jackass of a husband, so why the hell is this poor woman still with Pedro and why oh why does Sergio Sendel sound like he is constipated, do they pay him extra to sound like that?

Pedro later goes to speak with the judge in an attempt to get information on why the case against Alejandro has been opened again, the Judge tells him that it looks like Sandro gave false documents to the court and paid off witnesses, a warrant has been issued for him and when Pedro tries to play hardball with the judge he is put in his place quickly, the judge tells him the information on the case is confidential and that Pedro is not to mess with the investigation, further the judge does not have to give Pedro explanations as to why he takes certain actions and he tells Pedro that he hopes he was not involved in trying to frame Alejandro. Today is not a good day to be Pedro Medina.

Later Pedro takes Nadia out for a walk to visit Montse, while the two talk about how awful JL is Pedro tries to convince JL to help him bring down Alejandro, but JL is still playing at pretending to be a decent human being. We are not buying your act JL!

Maria makes a call, she has a way to get Alejandro away from Montse!

Join us tomorrow when Maria is arrested!

I may have missed some scenes but that's because my cable connection is iffy, I'd get a shot of a scene followed by a frozen screen and no sound :( so feel free to add anything I may have missed!

The Tundra is back!!!. Guess Toyota paid some more $$$

I still don’t like Monica. Hope Dim realizes he really loves Josefina. Did anybody notice that she never answered when Dim asked her if she would turn Ale and Victor in and arrest them if he had told her the truth?

For Esme – go girl, stick to your guns. As I blogged last night, I don’t think I would be able to forgive Refugio at this point.

Loved that Monse and Esme made up and are friends again. Plus boy did Esme really give it to MDJL!!!

The turn of events between MDJL and Pedro really left me wondering if there still might be some nobility left in MDJL. But to think he can get Monse to love him by force shows he is off the wall. Why does he keep harping on her pledge to him at the river??

Does anyone know the singer and song title of the background music at about 6.43 minutes into the novela with the scene between Monica and Dim. I can’t tell and love the song. There is a second song, but I will have to wait until the episode is on HuluPlus to track and remember it.

I'm glad Esme tried to make scruffy mccruffy Jose Luis see the truth, I think he's going to scratch her off his friend list.(has anyone noticed how often he says"Mmhm", so annoying)

Good work, Eli.

Dimitrio is no more mature enough to get married than Refoolio was (and still isn't). I hate the idea of his child growing up without a father, but the father has lots of growing up to do. Speculation, not spoiler: Refoolio won't grow up until the last few episodes.

Need come caffeine; be back later.

Hilda, LRG is horrible actor.
"Asi.,Asi. Ok. Mmmm. Donde vienes etc." I don't how he makes such short words sound so whiny and irrating but he does.

What an ass JL was. Montse was going to give Alec the keys and he went to grab it out of her hands to give it to Alec. I can't stand him.

Nice to see Esmeralda try to set JL straight but of course he doesn't listen. Everything is about him, his pain, what he has suffer blah, blah etc

Maybe Esmeralda is the first of a bunch of Voices of Reason?

". . . this kind of behavior from men is what drives women to do bad things . . . " Truer words were never written! You had me hooked and laughing from the start! Thanks for your recap in spite of the technical problems.

Good scenes:

Rosario telling Graciela to renounce any interest she may have in Benjamín Almonte's inheritance. Rosario knows how Graciela operates.

Pedro meeting with his old friend the judge just to find out that he owes the judge one not the other way around. For once Pedro was on the defense. It was good to see someone not intimidated by Pedro. By the way, if he wants to pet something why does he not get a ferret, iguana, armadillo, python, dog or cat? It makes my skin crawl anytime we have to see him petting Victoria on the head which is now anytime they are in the same scene together.

Alejandro on his "I am alive and kicking tour" with stops at Pedro's place and JL's house. Maybe his friend theTundra gave him that extra emotional support he needed. Too funny!

Eli: So glad you are back!
I thought your recap was marvelous - full of vim and vigor and your always wonderful humor:
"When you mess up, propose!" and " let me just add that this kind of behavior from men is what drives women to do bad things, things that land them their own episodes of Snapped" were my favrorites. You took off right out of the gate and ran with this! Please thank your sisters for their reactions and comments. This was wonderful.

So Ale told Pedro that he couldn't wait for Nadia and Victor's wedding. I thought Pedro suspected Victor was alive but had no proof. Until then. Am I wrong?

Victoria, not understanding most of Dim and Monica's conversation (mercifully), thank you for noting she never revealed what she would have done if the truth were told. I think she would have ratted them out in a New York minute.

No flies on Monica. Going to the hospital to "apologize" to Esme. And what was with the odd pink eyeshadow??

UA, I agree - Refugio and Dim have a lot of growing up to be and are not good husband material at this point. Of course, neither are any of the other husbands - Pedro, Ale, JL and EZ...Sigh.

I did not understand the conversation between JL and Esme. I know he cares deeply about her and did not take what I assume to be her realistic take and frank advice very well.

That said, JL seems to lose his crazed haze when he is away from Monse. He seems frighteningly lucid at times in conversations with others. As many have said, he is the only character who is capable of going toe to toe with Pedro. Two intelligent men, bordering on the brink of madness, battling their own personal demons.

Victoria, I do think JL has and is capable of nobility but is simply incapabe of sound judgement and guilty of abusive behavior in anything concerning Monse.

I am extremely conflicted about how I feel about JL now. I rejected Ale (whom I never liked) after the rape and feel as though I must also do the same regarding JL as attempted rape is the same in my book. But I feel that JL was a good person once upon a time and when I see flashes of who he used to be, this is difficult for me. (no tomatoes please, IMHO).

Eli, I really liked your take on the proposal: "Dimitrio has proposed to Monica, because now that he has slept with his ex-wife Josefina he knows for sure that any feelings he had for her are now dead (shifty eyes)". I wanted Dim and Fina to be together but these two never had good timing and would love to see someone wonderful appear and sweep her off her feet.

Appears as though Maria's luck runs out tonight. Appears as though she may need an excellent defense attorney. Carlos, any suggestions :)?

Diana

Eli, glad you are back with your Snappy recaps!! I loved the Snappy!!

As for Dimitrio, this says it all:"When you mess up, propose!" No further 'splaining needed.

Victoria Gomez, very astute observation re Rigid Monica NOT replying to Dimitrio's key question. I was waiting, believe me, but we NEVER heard it.

Can I say that I was taking a second look at that Tundra! Did you guys get a load of that interior?! HOLY COW!! What magnificent product placement. I think that is the best that I have EVER seen in a TN so far. Didn't the color of the truck change? I thought Montse was driving a black Tundra in that scene when she was backing up the truck and thought she saw Alejandro.

Urban, my sentiments exactly. I thought Esme was the first in a line of "Voices of Reason" for Mad Dog JL. Amelia is probably next.

That shot at the very end of Graciela and Maria was worth saving. The look on Graciela's face said EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING about who she is. Urban, I wish you could capture that for us just so that we can take a very close look at it.

We know that Pedro is a horrible, evil bully. Bullies make people want to hide in the shadows. They want to keep you there so that they can continue to do their toxic, horrible things. I am glad that Alejandro is out of the shadows and I LOVED it when he very calmly told JL this to his face in front of everyone. It stole some of JL's thunder.

I am in TOTAL agreement with all who are tired of JL and his "Hmms". I'd like to slap him from here to Kingdom Come every time I hear it!

Fatima

Forgot to add, I am a little worried about the Judge and his life span. Judge's have been known to conveniently disappear in Mexico and in other parts of Latin America (looking at you, Argentina).

Fatima

Good job Eli! Hope your cable gets fixed soon. I wish I had been there with you and your sisters as you all critiqued LQLVMR. I know I have a blast whenever I am with my sisters.

Dim's marriage proposal didn't surprise me. If you've ever watched the Maury Povich show, Jerry Springer, Sally Jessy, ad nauseum, that same scene has been reinacted over and over and over. Yes, honey, I cheated on you with your sister, friend, mom, cousin, complete stranger, dad (yes, I read that in Ann Landers once) so now that you know, will you please marry me so I can divert your attention away from my heinous deed?

I mentioned a couple of days ago how I was in an abusive relationship almost 40 years ago. He did the same thing, too. Only it was after he hit me the first time. Makes perfect sense, right? I have committed an act of violence upon your person so now I would like to bind you to me forever legally. FYI, time heals all wounds and wounds all heels. I know I may sound flip about something that is serious, but that was long ago and the girl that happened to is not the woman I am today. It was a bad experience, and at times life threatening in the literal sense, but I made sure it never happened again. Plus, I have used that experience to help other women.

Incidentally, he died about 6 or 7 years ago of throat cancer, I think. I've often wondered if he carried on that abuse in the 25 years after I left him. Well, its a moot point now.

Now....speaking of abusers and LQLVMR. All people have the capacity to be both noble and depraved, given the right situation. I have never been a JL fan, as you all probably know. I think that (were this real life) JL would have ended up manipulating and abusing Montse had they ended up marrying/eloping. He always had an excuse for why he shouldn't talkk to Montse's dad. When he came to the plantation, he SAID he wanted to rescue Montse, but he was manipulative even then and frequently put her in the position of near-discovery, even when she would ask him over and over to leave. Yeah, he bonded with Ale and they had that whole bromance thing going on, buddy-like. But it was always about JL.

That's another thing you see in real life. A guy will profess to love his wife/GF/significant other, but will treat her like crap and will put his buddies/sports/job first.

One last thing! It probably sounds like I hate men!!! It's true that I am a little cynical, but I can still have my head turned by a handsome face, fine physique and sweetly whispered words. :)

Very funny recap. I love "My name is Alejandro and I am not a vegetable".

This novela continues to display no shame in it's Tundra propping and it's so unintentionally funny.

To be fair, when Dimitrio asked Monica what she would do it was rhetorical. He wasn't expecting an answer because he knows she would have felt obligated to do her duty. That's why he tells her he was trying to protect those he loves, including her, since telling her would have put her in a no-win situation.

Poor Fina is going to be heartbroken when she finds out Dimitrio is engaged. I really don't want her pining for him now that he's completely over her and in love with Monica.

Fatima, good comment about the fate of some judges.

Anita: "...but that was long ago and the girl that happened to is not the woman I am today. It was a bad experience, and at times life threatening in the literal sense, but I made sure it never happened again".

Thank you for sharing your story with us. Reading your posts on this blog for some time, my mind's eye "sees" you as a strong, intelligent and loving woman.

I commend you for your strength and wish you nothing but happiness ahead. Bless you.

Diana

Anita:

I so agree with your assessment about MDJL at the "hacienda". I've always thought that his behaviour was despicable. He never left Monse in peace. Even though she asked him over and over to leave. As you said, he didn't care about Monse, he just cared about himself.

Fatima:

How did you read Gracie's look at Maria at the very end., To me it looks like she is going to devour Maria. Her smirk is totally Gracie.

Eli:

Good Morning and fabulous recap! Loved all your asides especially, "I am Ale and I am not a vegetable'! Too funny.

There were a couple things you missed. When Monse and Nadia were talking alone, they had sent Vicky off to play, they had a convo about JL. Monse was telling Nadia how unhappy she is with JL and how he won't let her go. Nadia did tell Monse that JL is noble, figure the odds there, and to give him time and he'd do the right thing. Monse disagreed and said JL was bad. Nadia told her deep down he is good and he'd do the right thing, but Monse told her she is preggers with JL's bebe.

Also Peddy and JL, when they were meeting in JL's home office, Peddy came right to the point. Shall Peddy kill Ale or should JL? JL told Peddy to go to hell. He wasn't killing Ale. And if Peddy thinks he can kill Ale, he'll have another thing coming. He will throw the book at Peddy. JL was smirking at Peddy too, and hinted around about having no avocadoes. It really was a funny scene.

I am so glad you are back Eli and thanks again for this ab fab recap!

Thanks Eli, I enjoyed the breakfast recap!
The apology from Monica didn't seem heartfelt. More like a statement of her version of events. Everyone, including JL, seems to think it's okay because Refoolio didn't actually have sex with Monica. The point for me, is that Refoolio didn't think about Esmeralda until he was undressed and waiting to do it. He made no effort to distance himself from Monica, in fact did the opposite by 'helping' her move and hanging around for drinks. That alone is inappropriate in my book, especially since he recently has had so many problems with Esmeralda and proclaims to love her so much. As I said before, it's so disrespectful. Maybe there's also a cultural aspect to this, and his behavior is more acceptable.

Yes, JL's sarcastic mumblings are annoying, just like Graciela's - ehh!

Marea Primavera

Oh, and one more thing. Monica went to see Esme in the hospital. Esme didn't want her there, but Monica wanted Esme to hear, from her, what happened with Refug. Monica told Esme nothing happened, that Refug stopped because he truly loves Esme. Monica also admitted it was her doing, and she asked Esme for pardon. Esme actually listened to her, and Monica admitted that she loves Dimi. Esme didn't forgive her, but Esme listened to her. I have to give Monica kudos here because she did the right thing. She owned up to what she had done, and made no excuses.

Nicely done, Eli. I've been missing you and I hope to see you back full force... the sooner the better. What fun watching with your sisters.

When JL was having that meeting in his office with Pedro, it seemed to me that the conversation was drifting dangerously close to JL's awareness of Pedro's missing assets but it never actually came up... too bad.

For someone who appears to be so socially awkward, Dimitrio is amazingly adept at manipulation, with a keen sense of timing. I thought that that proposal was doomed, but obviously he knew what he was doing.

On the other hand, as bumbling as he is, I think for the long haul that Refugio is far and away the better prospect for long term fidelity.

María's short phone call was ominous sounding. So she now has allied with with JL? Wonder what those crazy kids will come up with?

Carlos

I also liked the convos that JL and Refug had and also JL's convo with Esme. The bebe is named for Angelica, as in Angel. JL's excitement on soon being a Dad. Also Esme giving JL what for. He tried to explain about this promise that Monse made to him when she was nineteen. Esme told him to let that and Monse go, because Monse loves Ale and no matter what, she isn't changing her mind. He tried to tell her that now both of them had been cheated on, but Esme still wasn't buying it. It really needed to be said, and I'm glad she told him so.

I really liked the genuine smile that JL gave Refug when Refug told him they named the bebe Angel and JL thanked him. I really think that JL is coming to himself slowly but surely. Especially when he told Peddy he wasn't going to kill Ale and if Peddy thought he could, wrong! I have never believed that JL would kill Ale. Not in his DNA.

Carlos:

Maria called Graceless not JL. In the last scene, Graceless went to see Maria, and she told her she'd been waiting for her.

Now that I've had some caffeine...

When I initially saw Alejandro entering Pedro's office I thought that was a foolish display of bravado. However, I've changed my mind. Pedro thinks he's above the law, but even kings are not and he's no king. The judge isn't going to try to hang him alone; he's going to get help to do this. when Maria gets arrested she should be put in protective custody for her testimony against Pedro.

For a second in the scene between Pedro and MDA, I thought that MDA was going to call him out on his shortcomings. It's probably better that he didn't because Pedro can easily figure out how he found out and while EZ isn't the honorable man Carlota wants to believe he is, he is needed to bring Pedro down.

I thought the phone call Maria had was with Graciela, with her arrival at the end being the reveal.

Anon,

"Hilda, LRG is horrible actor."

I totally disagree. I despise JL but as despicable (and annoying) as he is right now, he still has his defenders. He was equally despicable and annoying as Crazy Count Diego in Alborada and I couldn't get enough of him. When he's onscreen I'm spellbound. On the other hand when Alejandro is up, especially declaring how much he loves his Montse, I'm all... Next!

Carlos

Dear Eli,

Great to have you and your cable back! I always enjoy your take on the characters and the crazy drama, and this recap was especially hysterical. I wish I could watch with you and your sisters, too!

This line really had me laughing: "When you mess up, propose!" as did your whole analysis of that scene. There were many other great lines, too.

And tell your sister I completely agree about that dangerous baby transporting cart thing the nurse used.

Anita: Thanks again for sharing your story with us.

Victoria and Fatima: I, too, was happy to see the Tundra back and am definitely falling under its spell. That bluetooth option was especially sexy.

I now am thinking the Tundra is the real galán in this TN. My advice to Montse is to forget Ale and J-L and run away with the Tundra.

I would also urge Esme, Monica, Josefina, and Carlotta to get to the Agua Azul Toyota dealership pronto and find their own true Tundra loves.

Best to all and thanks again, Eli, for another fantastic recap,
Julia R.

Madelaine and Anon,

I went back and checked and it looks like you are right, but I can't imagine an alliance between those two... this makes it even more exciting. So does this mean that Graciela is wanting to keep Alejandro away from Montserrat even while helping him regain his inheritance? Now I'm confused. Is Graciela even more wily than I imagined?

Carlos

Carlos:

Whenever Graceless aligns herself with someone I think, follow the centavos. Graceless never does anything that doesn't benefit her as in centavos. Not a spoiler just a guess.

And here I was thinking that Graciela is finally devoted to helping her children achieve happiness.

Carlos

Anon 7:54:

I have to say I think LRG is a fantastic actor. His facial expressions and the way he is doing this character is really great, and I like his little asides, they don't bother me at all. He does the underdog quite well. He isn't all black and white, but more in the grey area.

Carlos:

I thought I was the only one that doesn't much care for Ale. I like the actor, but the character's ragey moments, his "ownership" of Monse, locking her up, calling her every name in the book, throwing her out when she was preggers, shooting before asking questions, especially when the guy in question was married to someone else and the wife was dying. I'm with you, NEXT!

On JL again:
As a 'lover' and 'fake husband', he's pretty much of a delusional failure. Both to Monse and to Alec JL tries to justify his love/hate because of what each has done to him. That is the source of his revenge which pops up in any conversation with either Monse and Alec. "no, I am the victim because I did x, y, z for you and you did p,q,r to me". And we all can understand his venganza but we all want to say with Esme 'give it a rest already buddy. That was in the past'.
But there is another much more appealing and idealistic aspect to his personality which comes through anytime he confronts true evil, e.g. Pedro. Here an almost virtuous man appears. Witness his conversation with Pedro last night.
These two radically conflicting aspects of his personality make one wonder which aspect will win?

Not a spoiler but I think he will never get over his dislike of Alec, his hope that Monse will begin to love him but when Pedro tries to kill Alec I can't help but seeing in my mind's eye the solution to the love triangle. JL will try to prevent Pedro from killing Alec and the most likely outcome is that Pedro kills JL and Pedro goes to jail for murder and all his other crimes.
Monse will remember JL fondly for his final sacrifice to secure her happiness and the triumph of justice.

Eli – Great to hear your voice again. Hope your sisters join in again too. Spot-on recap. I too loved My name is Alejandro and I am not a vegetable.

Esme took the words out of Viewerville’s mouth when she rolled her eyes and told JL to quit with his “down by the river” tale of Monse’s broken promise. Then Nadia reminds Monse that JL has always loved her and been noble [I agree with Nadia, that it was love. JL broke out of prison to save Monse’s life so she could escape with Ale – a totally selfless act. But of course that love has morphed into crazy obsession.]. Then JL tries to draw a line between Pedro’s sadism versus his own, ahem, shiny principles. I think the writers are setting us up for JL to have a revelation. One can hope. When JL is onscreen, I don’t leave the room. Guzman is doing a fine job in my book.

I’m thinking Graciela is playing Maria. Money comes first for Gracie, but she also has a need for Monse and Dim to care about her. So, as Graciela said to herself earlier, why not let Ale and Monse be together since he’ll be rolling in dough again?

Ale and the Tundra’s reunion was a hoot.

Carlos, Gracie doesn't give a fig for anyone's happiness because she wants everyone to share her misery.

The word "love" does not exist for her. In past episodes she scoffed at the idea of Monserrat loving first JL then Alejandro.

I speak from experience. I am the daughter of a Graciela who would have fleeced any man she could if she had had access to the right ones on a regular basis. Because no man ever loved her she was sure there was no such thing.

Carlos, of course he has his defenders. Every character has them like your wacky love of Maria. Haha different tastes that's all. I will say he's not the worst that goes to Sergio. I have no clue wtf he's doing in there with his stuttering, constipated looks. He was never this bad in the other novelas I have seen of him.

Nevertheless I still can't stand stand to watch/look him whenever he comes on screen. I have no problem with that when SR comes I think he's the better actor. He can still make me feel empathy for him even when Alejandro is being bad, stupid etc. And there is more chemistry, passion, intensity with Alec y Montse scenes than anything JL y Montse have done.

Eli, loved your recap. Ale- I am not a vegetable- classic , and your snapped comment.
Finally got to see the episode last night. No English CCs, but I understand Monse's vow to Mad Dog Alvarez to be:
If you let Ale go I promise to leave him and stay by your side. I'll hate every minute of it. I promise to flinch every time you touch me , and I will faithfully wipe my mouth with the back of my hand when you kiss me, but I will be faithful to you, other than picturing being in Ale's arms when you embrace me.

Madelaine, thanks for providing so much additional action from last night.

Carlos, I think Guzman is really bringing it and I am transfixed by his performance.

Julia, I'm still laughing over the Tundra being the real galán. It has certainly received enough screen time to become a contender!

Diana

Thank you for the recap, I missed the first half of this episode.
I have to agree with Victoria going to help Monica move without consulting with Esme first is bad enough and to top ot off they were making out. I consider making out with another woman cheating.
I'm really upset I missed Monica asking Esme to forgive her. I really hope Esme told her off?

Velen

It's not the same Tundra. It's a newer model and a different color

The other one still roams the streets driverless and illegally parks in Agazul's most attractive areas.

But that's not the point. I stated a while back that when Ale got behind the wheel of a Tundra once more, it would be an omen that Padre Anselmo is still alive and well, perhaps tucked away in a small rectory in Little Havana.

And how come Monse's name popped up as Mendoza instead of as her legally married name of Alvarez?

I love it! The Tundra is the Galan! I agree! Last night at my parents, mom and I were watching and my Dad asked, "Why is it, every time I just glance at the tv during this novela, do I see a Toyota Tundra? Is it part of the story?"

Haha! The real reunion is Alejandro and the Tundra!

Funny Recap! I too don't remember Sergio Sendel acting so choppy, stuttering and looking constipated, maybe it has to do with the missing avocados???

Loved Ale marching into Casa Alvarez and matching his little boy Lolo.

After much thought, I'm coming around to my own circle of LQLVMR friends, Maria can not be redeemed. She needs to go.

Thanks again! - Santi

Velen:

No Esme didn't tell her off at the end. Esme did say when Monica walked in what the hell Monica was doing there and to get the hell out. Monica insisted she listen to what she had to say. At the end Monica did say that Refug truly loved Esme, to forgive her, and to think about what she said. Esme said nothing as Monica left the room. After Monica left Esme was thinking, but she didn't forgive Monica. Monica did stop by on her way out to talk to Refug. Monica had talked to Esme and told him what she told Esme.

Oxnard,

I don't think Monse changed her name after she married. She couldn't use Almonte because Ale had been stripped of that name, due to Fabs and Graceless. So she is going by her maiden name. You are right, different model and color of the Tundra. It went by to fast for me to see if it still has those Texas plates ; )

FINALLY, Ale acts like a galan. I actually liked him last night. If he’s going to have Maria arrested (and that was a hoot to see) because she stole the will, I think it’s too late. Big G has it.

Pedro is stuttering more than usual.

Glad Esme tried to get through to JL. I think he'd be more reasonable about it if he would stop drinking. I don't think he's stopped drinking since he first suspected Mons of catting around on him.

Watched the ep last night, but haven’t read the recap/comments. Just wanted to make a couple of observations before I do.

Was the Tundra a different color?

Nanette

Niece:

I tried your insomnia cure last night and it worked! Juan kneading that dough is very therapeutic. I had dreams of conchas and rolls, yummy! And thanks.

Loved your recap, all the headings, especially "when in doubt, propose"; and the observation about what men do to drive women to CRAAAAAZZZZY. I bet your sisters are just as much fun as you are, and I totally agree with the one who said the rolling bassinet was dangerously rickety. In fact, why were they taking the baby away? Babies belong with their moms. From the get-go. I always had an arrangement where the baby stayed in the room with me at all times.

Haven't seen all of this yet, but Lolo's joy at seeing his daddy arrive at the house, had to be pouring salt in JoséLuis' wounds. At least the little fellow gave him a nice high five when he said good-bye.

Monica used a clever argument with Esmeralda. She told her "Look at this as an infidelity test. He had a woman he was attracted to ASK him to have sex with her. And he REFUSED. He REFUSED BECAUSE HE LOVED YOU AND HE LOVED THE CHILD YOU ARE HAVING TOGETHER.

In other words, she's asking Esmeralda to "reframe" the incident in a positive light. "He passed the test. So carry on."

Is Refugio a good long-term prospect? Who knows? But I think it would be wise to give him another road test. Single motherhood is tough. And Esmeralda does not have a convenient live-in Rosario to pick up the slack.

JudyB:

Ay, Amiga I missed that. Monica is quite clever is she not? But at the same token, she wanted Esme to see that Refug didn't have the intent to go through with it. Esme looked like she was going to think about it. She does need the time to process.

Victoria Gomez, I thought the actress really brought it on with The Look! Holy Cow! She looked evil, happy, chomping at the bit...she had so many looks flash by in just one look! BM is outclassed and she had better be careful!

Carlos, you said: "And here I was thinking that Graciela is finally devoted to helping her children achieve happiness." I am dying laughing! In your dreams, Mister, in your dreams!!!

Marea Primavera, your points re Refoolio are well taken and are ones with which I am in total agreement. I do agree with our wonderful JudyB, that Esme needs a father for this child, but Rigid Monica's arguments not withstanding, the INTENT is what still bothers me. His actions went pretty darn far. If I were Esme sitting in that bed listening to Rigid Monica tell me it was her fault, I would tell her, "Who bloody cares?!" Who really cares if it was Rigid Monica's fault?! Refoolio took it pretty darn far. He had to take it THAT far to realize he was making a huge mistake?! OY! PUH-LEEZE!

Carlos and Urban, I, too, thought MDA was coming dangerously close to revealing how much he knew about Pedro's anatomy dysfunction; dangerously close.

Madelaine, the Mad Dog JL we saw in his confrontation with Pedro was the JL of old. He did really well in that scene and put Peddy in his place. He does really well when Montserrat is not around. He actually thinks.

If we think about it, we've had both JL and Alejandro give Peddy a taste of his own medicine. It's been a long time coming. It will be hard to fight them because Peddy works in the shadows, but both men refuse to go there anymore. A good thing, frankly.

Oxnard, I'm glad I didn't miss that little detail about this being a totally new truck. Funny that Montse told him she had taken care of his truck, but then presents him with a new one! Ha!

Julia R, I really liked the Blue tooth feature on the Tundra as well! I think Toyota is going to have some new fans thanks to this TN. :)

I'm glad that Esme had her discussion with JL. Don't you find it odd that JL is holding on to something that happened when Montserrat was 19?! I don't know, that strikes me as more than a tad odd.

Nanette, just wanted to say that I still don't like Monica. As for Dimitrio, I'm having my doubts about him right now. Maybe he should end up with the Rigid Monica. I want someone really good for our Fina.

Diana, re being a contender. I can almost hear poor JL now screaming "I coulda been a contender!". Sadly, Marlon Brando he isn't.

I cannot wait to see BM and Graciela in action!!

Fatima

It's nice to have you back, Eli. What a fun recap!

Julia Rold, I love your take on the Tundra as the true galán of the story and your advice to the other women to head on down to the Toyota dealership.

Guzmán is a little hammy for my tastes. He takes a mannerism (like the verbal tics or the shtick with the cane or the letter opener) and then just repeats it until it becomes tedious or unintentionally laughable.

I do like Urban's idea that Esmeralda is the first of a number of Voices of Reason for Mad Dog.

Fatima:

I do find the promise from JL to Monse odd, but then again I don't. Remember that Monse is JL's first true love. She was the only woman he loved, very deeply. With all his soul. Some people in real life even hold on to these things. They never forget their first love, they move on however. JL hasn't, and this is my opinion, because he never had the chance with her. They were never allowed to be together for any length of time freely, in other words. The same thing is happening all over again, people butting in, and Monse has been over JL for some time. I think he is trying to come to grips with this, but as everyone said about Ale, JL hasn't been able to process it. Yes, JL is holding on to a memory, but I think eventually he will come to grips with it and move on. It may take some time but he'll move on. Not a spoiler, just my own opinion.

Dear Madelaine, I do think you are right.

Both men have not done right by Montserrat. They both need to come to terms with that as does Montserrat.

Fatima

A comment about the truck. Maybe the show forgot about the color of it, Alec has two cars etc because I went back an dwatch some older clips and the dark reddish truck shown last night was shown before. It was shown after Alec die and we saw Montse uncovering it and having a flashback of when they use to take the car out to the beach with Laurito.

But we also saw a black truck when Montse was driving it and see chase after Alec too.

Eli- I love that you had your sisters by your side as you watched and recapped this episode. I wish I could pull my girlfriends together to watch tns with me. I’d record all their comments, because there would definitely be some gems like the ones your sisters were throwing out.

I didn’t see the epi, but I’m glad to read that JL’s obsession with Monse and shady behavior has not extended to him making a deal with Pedro to kill Ale. Like I said before, if he didn’t kill the man when he caught him in the middle of boinking his wife in a hotel room, when he had the gun in his hand, he’s not ever going to.

In many LatAm cultures, women don’t use their married last name for business/legal matters. They only use their maiden name. But in social settings they would be addressed by their married name.

Anon @2:17, thank you for that clarification! You have a sharp eye. :)

Hi Eli, what a fun and witty recap. Sorry your cable wasn't completely working, it was a very good episode. I really enjoyed the 2 lines:

"Pedro is at his home office, probably working on ways to torture kittens for profit when he notices a shadow over him"

"why oh why does Sergio Sendel sound like he is constipated, do they pay him extra to sound like that?"---LOL, I've seen Sergio in other novelas, and I think he is just making this as part of the character of Pedro. He is a villain, but he's got these stutters and awkward ways of clenching his jaw when he talks, like if he is constipated. Wish we could learn a little more about his past, before his freak accident.

Victoria, JL also made me think. Like you said "The turn of events between MDJL and Pedro really left me wondering if there still might be some nobility left in MDJL."

JL actually confused me a bit last night. For the last few weeks, he has irritated me enormously, but after last night's episode I wonder just how "crazy" he really is? Diana's comment stood out for me: "That said, JL seems to lose his crazed haze when he is away from Monse. He seems frighteningly lucid at times in conversations with others"

Could he be fooling those around him with his crazy act, when Monse is around, so she will be afraid to leave him? But on his own, he is the same noble, righteous JL? Could he still be trying to protect Monse from Pedro and Maria by keeping her at his side? No spoiler, but just a lot of speculation.

And if its not what I think, then maybe his converstaion with Esme last night will get him thinking and turning in the right direction. I liked how she let him have it. And I do think LRG is doing a fine job with the character of JL.

As for the final scene with Gracie showing up at Maria's, I don't believe those two can work together. I prefer to think that Gracie has something up her sleeve, that will benefit her, and perhaps her kids along the way.

Jarifa, I liked "Alejandro on his "I am alive and kicking tour" with stops at Pedro's place and JL's house. Maybe his friend theTundra gave him that extra emotional support he needed. Too funny!"--Very funny indeed :-)

Maricruz

Madelaine and Vivi, I'm in total agreement with you about JL. He's a good person and certainly not a killer. I have faith that we'll be seeing the real, noble JL very soon.

Just a guess on my part, but I believe JL will end up with Monica **and** JL's baby.

Maria put the will in her dresser drawer. How much do you want to bet that Graciela walks out with it before Alejandro and the police arrive?

Kathy- I'm not as hopeful about the future the writers have planned for JL as you are (but hopeful they don't suddenly turn him into the cold blooded killer he is not). Monse will never let her baby go, JL will never let his baby or Monse go, Ale will never let Monse go--- this all means that JL has to go.

Thanks, Eli, for your fun recap. I love to read your take on the madness. I bet that it was fun watching with your sisters.

The actor playing JL seems game for anything. As the wicked, demented, amoral villain Diego in Alborada , he used a chamber pot while having a conversation with his equally wicked mother and wretched violently in another scene.

Well, I am officially on vaca now that my final grades are posted.

Anita..I am so glad that you were able to get away from that bad relationship and move on with your life.

Vivi..yes , with all that "not-letting-go"......somebody has got to go....looking at you JL.

It's between JL and his baby as to who goes. Hope its the baby through nobody's fault, which will knock some sense into all of them, and all three (Ale, Montse and JL) cry together, put their differences aside, and team up to bring the bad guys down.

Lately, each evening I'm finding myself anticipating and looking forward to JL's whiny reminder that he spent 7 years of his life in jail for Alejandro and Montserrat. It's getting so that we can almost say it along with him.

Carlos

I forgot to mention earlier that I found myself almost splitting my sides with laughter when Pedro mentally undressed the judge's secretary when he went to the confront the judge at his office.

How can a guy with no nuts be such a lech?

Also congrats to the EE.UU for making the knockout round of the World Cup.

Oxnard...I've always assumed that was part of Pedro's game--to hide the fact that he had nothing going on below the belt. Same as when he had Esmerelda pretend that he was having a red-hot affair with her, when he was not...of course.

Madelaine - Glad the dough kneading help.

I'm finding myself anticipating and looking forward to JL's whiny reminder that he spent 7 years of his life in jail for Alejandro and Montserrat

Carlos - I was amazed that, after running this line for so long, last night somebody (yay, Esme!) finally rolled their eyes in exasperation.

I find myself looking forward to Monse saying she married JL out of gratitude. I'm waiting for the day somebody says, "Monse why didn't you just offer him free baked goods for 7 years?” Marrying him for life is a bit much for mere gratitude, no?"

Carlos: it seems that the whole you promised me to be true by the river when you were a young, naive 19 is also part of his schtick.

Looks like our Maria is in trouble.

It's so interesting that a good deal of bloggers think MDJL still has nobility left in him and at the end, will go down after saving Monse and Ale.

The writers seem to want us to go along this line; but wouldn't it be a non-traditional novela plot twist if something totally unexpected with MDJL happens???

The JL character reminds me a bit of the Alonso character in Amor Bravio. He also had a twisted obsession with the heroine, tried to rape her, and fought her on the divorce (which she pursued anyway-- see Monse, you can get divorced even if JL doesn't want it). And even though Alonso also had many nervous ticks, I loved watching him and was quite sad when he died.

Vivi: he certainly didn't deserve his fate.

Eli,
Thanks for the recap. It was a hoot to read. Happy to hear that you got to share this with your sisters.

I think MDA has a split personality. Crazy with Montse, Ale and company, normal with his friends. Just a thought.

I cried when Ale reunited with his beloved Tundra! LOL!

You go Ale! I loved watching him showing up at Peddy's, then at MDA's. He is one determined man. I found it quite sexy. More to say, but out of time.

Back to work...hasta pronto!

Niece:

Monse, exactly! Why did she marry JL knowing she loves Ale and always will. If she wanted JL to be a father figure for Lolo, he is the Padrino after all, he would have been that without marriage. Gratitude, smatatude is what I say. She should have turned him down and as our Carlos says, NEXT!

Carlos:

Speaking of repeated schticks, Ale: Monse is my woman, Maria: Ale es mio! Vic: I miss my woman, Esme: Largate! to Refug. and on and on. They all have some saying. I did however, like Esme rolling her eyes, jus' sayin'! Oh, and one last one; Graceless you need Jesus. There I think I got most of them.

Vivi,
I've had this feeling ever since they introduced the Monica character that she is destined for JL. Part of the feeling is the fact Monica entered just as Angelica left us. Monica is also Navy, like JL, and she's headed for heartbreak with one of the Mendoza kids like JL. I think they'll have a lot to commiserate on.

As far as the baby is concerned, Ale is a jerk. Once a jerk, always a jerk. If Montse had to threaten to leave him forever just to get Ale to accept the baby I don't see a happy life for the stepchild.

I base this all on the fact that despite all the incredible crap that Isabel suffered from Arturo in PSMA, they still ended up together. So JL and Monica together with his baby could happen. ;)
