Que Pobres Tan Ricos #112: 6/11/14: Who Let The Dog Out, Woo, Woo, Woo!!!!

I am putting up a brief summary of what happened last night on Pobres. Ezra may still be out of town. If he posts a recap I will take this summary down.

Diego goes to Guendy's salon and gets a new "luke", almost the same as Leo's.

Diego and Leo go to the movies and see a Vampi (Vampire) movie.

Ana Chofi needs a day of relaxation, she worked ya know ; ) She misses the Spas she used to go to. That gives Guendy an idea. Guendy's Spa. Perla is doing Ana Chofi's nails and Guendy asks if maybe Ana Chofi could work? Ana Chofi is offended, women of high society don't work, but Guendy suggests maybe something with the kitchen, Ana Chofi is horrified. She only knows high flautin' cuisine.

Nepo is at work, when a couple of guys from the 'hood come in and talk about Diego, hanging out with that "Prince" and they think that they are gay. Nepo has a cow and Trofeo runs them off. Nepo goes off to find Diego. Trofeo looks concerned.

MA breaks out of Mini's fortress of a house, and finally, after many attempts, gets over the fence and looks a hot mess. His clothing is torn and dirty. He calls Saul and lets him know he is out, and then his phone dies. Problem is his charger is in the bag he left behind. He is hungry passes a chicken stand, and hasn't the money to pay. He walks further on sees a taco stand has enough for a taco. A young boy comes by, and hasn't the money to get one, so MA gives him his.  MA tells the taco guy if there is change from the taco to give it to the boy. The taco stand guy takes pity on MA and gives him one for free. Thanks Julie and Julia!

Vilma gets a call from the private security company that has the alarm on Ahole's house and informs her the alarm is going off. Vilma talks to Ahole who says tell them I don't live there, call Mini.

Mini is off with Isela still at the "Cloob". Beba comes by and asks about that donation of Ahole's I think. Isela talks around her. Mini is all happy now she has had a mani/pedi after that stressful night with MA. She's headed back, and Mini is mad at Isela about that donation. Mini warns Isela not to say a word to Ahole about MA or she's dead.

Diego and Leo sneak back to The RP penthouse and have a chat and get really close, like kissing close, when Nepo sneaks up there and sees what's about to happen, grabs Diego and goes off on Leo. Leo is scared and Nepo practically kicks Diego down the stairs in the kitchen, when Lupe and Don C stop him. They want to know what is going on. Nepo insinuates no son of his is gay, and it's all due to the bad influence of Leo. Nepo is so enraged, they have to get Tizoc to hold him back from attacking Diego. Nepo finally calms down and asks Diego to come home with him. They go off. The Menchacas talk about what just happened and Carm, the voice of reason, tries to explain that Diego and Leo were born that way, it wasn't anyone's influence.

After Nepo gets Diego home, he has stopped the rant, but the anger is still there. He is pithed at Diego and is still blaming all of this on Leo, but Diego tries to tell him, that he tried to tell him before, but he wouldn't listen. Of course, this is all the RPs fault, the bain of his existence and sends Diego off to his room, like he's five years old, but Diego goes.

Ana Chofi comes back and hears the tail end of what Lupe just said when she wants to know what is going on? Don C tells her to talk to Leo. She goes up to the Penthouse where Mati is consoling Leo, she was there when Nepo was on his rant, she also tried to calm Nepo. She comforts Leo and tells him to tell all to Ana Chofi. She goes and Ana Chofi wants to know what is going on. He tells her about Nepo's rant, but doesn't say he is gay, but he does tell her about the closeness of he and Diego, face to face, when Ana Chofi gets the picture and looks like she is gonna pass out. She hugs Da Vinci and keeps saying "no puede ser", it can't be.

Mini makes it home, and the private security guys are there and tell her that someone broke into her home, the door is busted out. Mini says, oh, noes the dog is gone, Ha! The guy doesn't look like he believes her, but she did say the dog escaped. Damn the bad luck.

After all the ruckus, Lupe and Don C are having a chat about Ahole, when Don C is getting getting pain in his arm, is looking like he is in pain and fading fast and then passes out. Lupe is frantic trying to revive him and she yells for Carmelita and Tizoc.

Hola Amiguis!

I put this summary up, because I don't know if EZ is still out of town. This whole summary is by memory, so please fill in what I forgot. I tried to make this as simple as possible. What an Epi, and Nepo it seems will never change, it's his way or the highway. I am really hoping Diego runs far, far away.

It looks like Ana Chofi also didn't take the news well. She sure was clutching on to poor Da Vinci.

Oh, I did skip a part about poor Frida, being ganged up again, by those horrid mean girlz and Tato too. I wanted to hit them on the head with a nerf football.

Thanks, Madelaine! I assume Ezra is really busy. I hope that's all. But we need to discuss this big explosive episode!

Holy Cannoli! For once I do NOT want to know what all those bleeped words were! That was really ugly. Poor Diego. Good thing there is a spare bed at Casa Menchaca, because I think Diego needs a new place to stay for awhile. I can't believe Nepo tried to ground him. Diego is an adult!

But there were some funny bits, too. I got a kick out of Leo's critique of the vampire movie, with the impersonation of the actress "I'm angry. I'm excited. I'm sad." or whatever and his expression never changes.

I wonder if AS is more upset by Leo being gay, which I'm pretty sure she already knew even if she wouldn't admit it, or that he's interested in Diego, who is not high society.

About the tacos, MA actually did buy the first plate. It was clear that was probably the only money he had. He had passed up another place with roast chicken because the price was 50 pesos and I think he didn't have that much. And then after he gave it to the hungry little boy, the taco shop guy took pity on him and gave him another. Those tacos looked good.

What is MA going to do now, with no money, dead phone and no charger, no change of clothes, and he can't go to Saul or Lupita because the police are watching? I hope he at least finds someone who will let him make a phone call. He and Saul could make arrangements for some third party who won't be watched by the police to pick him up or leave money for him somewhere and collect the USB. Saul must know someone who could do it. I wonder if the police would follow his secretary.

Thank you for posting this, Mads. I was a bit shaken by this episode and really wanted to talk about it!

I was momentarily disappointed that Leo didn't come downstairs to give his friend some moral support against Nepo, but then I realized that could only make things worse. The man is insane. I'm surprised the Menchacas let Diego go home with him, though I guess their own situation is delicate enough as it is.

And we're still waiting for the rest of AS's reaction. I really think she will get over this a lot faster than Nepo will. Especially keeping in mind that most of her social circle thought Leo was gay to begin with.

MA did pay for the first taco, though. It was all the money he had left. Then the taco man refused the little kid, and when MA gave the boy his taco, he told the taco man that if there was any change from his own purchase, to give it to the kid. At that point, the taco man took pity on MA and gave him a freebie.

LOL, Julia and I said a lot of the same things. No wonder people keep mixing us up. :-)

It was funny, though, when MA was passing the chicken place, I wondered if it was a new Bambi Chicken outlet and he was going to run into Queta. Ah well.

One other, funny detail: At the start, when Perla started to talk to Diego about how he was quitting futbol because of her, and Gwendy intervened and sent Perla to buy some supplies, she told Perla to get - I forget the exact words - but something like "whatever's cheap." Kind of funny because I remember her telling Ana Sofia that the products they use in her salon are as good as the ones AS was getting from Europe. :-)

The "whatever's cheap" referred to shampoo, I meant to say.

Julie:

That was funny about Guendy and she also said something about Yabba Dabba Do? What is she saying?

I wanted to talk about this epi too. Nepo is very scary. I didn't want him to hurt Diego or Leo in any way. It was awful to see the tears in Diego's eyes and to see Leo cry like that. I loved Dona Mati here, what a wonderful Grandma she is !

Mini was a hoot with oh, the dog escaped! The Security guy wasn't buying it. Too funny.

Yeah, that was funny about Guendy sending Perla to buy something cheap to get rid of her. It was clear she just wanted to talk to Diego alone. Perla is seriously delusional, thinking Diego gave up futbol for her. Why would he need to give up futbol if he did want to date her? At least she should finally be relieved of this delusion when she hears about the cause of the blowup.

I, too, was surprised that all the Menchacas and Mati let Diego go off with Nepo, after all of Nepo's violent anger. I thought maybe at least Tizoc should follow in case he got physical again.

POOR DIEGO. After being humiliated by being caught, then outed and yelled at in front of everyone, he had to ride off in the Bananamobile.

Mati was wonderfully comforting to Leo. I hope she can spend some time with Diego and offer him some grandmotherly love, too.

I liked Diego's new luke. I really like those shirts the fashionable guys seem to be wearing nowadays, with the facings in a different fabric.

And I hope Diego will remember how Guendy tried to be supportive, and maybe go stay with her and Carmelita! I really don't think he should stay in Nepo's house. Nepo is irrational and violent. He may not have done anything REALLY bad yet, but he is controlling and talks about violence in a way that should be a serious warning. At one point he was going to go after MA with a gun!

Maybe this is a PSA about paying attention to warning signs before someone goes homicidally ballistic.

I was afraid the episode was going to end with Nepo shooting either Diego or Leo. (given the media coverage of all the violence these past few years.) My recorder cut off during the last set of commercials, and I missed the ending. Thank you for Madelaine for the excellent recap.

Emeraldrose, if it makes you feel any better, Nepo doesn't even have a gun. He borrowed the one that he had and now it's gone, so he'd have to borrow another one if he feels like shooting anyone. And I don't think anyone in their right mind is going to lend him so much as a butter knife while he's still frothing at the mouth.

I liked that NOBODY gave Nepo any moral support when he was ranting and raving. Tizoc later confided to the family that he wasn't happy about the relationship, but it's one thing to disagree about something and another thing to be violent. Obviously Tizoc understands that better than Nepo does.

Yes, I liked how everyone instantly joined forces to protect Diego. And then defended him more when they found out WHY Nepo was attacking him.

Thanks, Mads!!
i liked the fact that Mati was one of those trying to get Nepo to stop his attack, and Nepo actually was sane enough to tell Mati stte of 'I have a lot of respect for you, but please don't interfere'. At least Nepo knew he owed Mati some respect in the middle of the chaos. Chuy was also pretty well grounded saying you can't impose your will on the kids, you raise them and then you have to let them go on their own way or stte..
I think in the end of the ep, Chuy and Lupe were both worried they would soon lose their home and that is why Chuy had the crisis.

Poor Chuy, too. He was so upset and worried because he thinks Ahole will take the house away, and that will mean he has failed his family because he can't provide a place for them to live.

I would like to think Ahole can't actually take the house, since the Menchacas have paid it off and they now have papers attesting to this, but Ahole is crooked and not above dirty business so I'm not sure he can't manage to throw them out with nothing. Which of course will make Lupita want to marry him!

Gwendy received Diego to give him a haircut, he asked for something different, like Ricky Martin... and Gwendy said 'oh, you want a Yabba-Dabba-Doo' style!'
Yabba-Dabba-Do is the old yell that Fred Flinstone would say, everytime he got excited or happy about something. you have to be old enough (like me) to have watched the Flintstones cartoons back when they were showing daily.. They were my favorite. I never really cared about the Jetsons. And I always had a special feel for Pebbles the baby girl *( and the episode where Fred dreams that Pebbles and Bam-Bam (Barney's adopted baby boy) sing/play instrumetns and become famous.*

Madelaine, you've done an amazing job, and there's no denying that I messed up and didn't post on time. I'm getting my act together this week and you won't see me make this mistake again!

I loved the boys' conversation about the zombuqui...

at first Leo was like ehhhh I'm accustomed to fine European, Spanish cinema, but he changed his mine pretty quick at the end. The novela had a cute dig at Twilight there, where Leo mentioned afterwards how the actress never changed her facial expression!

I also loved the golden ball Mike used to smash in the window to escape, and his goofy shock and horror when the alarm went off!

Basically, just your memories are way better than what I'd written. I'll do you guys way better next week, I promise!

Ezra:

I'm so sorry, no worries : ) I am looking forward to your recap next week : )

I didn't know they were doing a shout out to Twilight, how funny. I never watched those and so didn't catch it ; )

Marta:

Oh, I know all about the Flintstones, I thought maybe it was some new hairstyle I didn't know about, lol. My favorite cartoon was always Scooby Doo ; )

Julie and Julia:

I like how both of you think alike. I too liked that the Menchaca supported Diego and I wish there is some way that Diego can stay with them, but with Leo there, I don't know. It's sad all the way around. What bothered me so much was that Nepo is treating Diego as if he were five years old. Go to your room, you are grounded indeed! And the threat of bodily harm, like beating the stuffing out of the boy is gonna change anything. I too am glad I didn't get to hear the bleeped out stuff.

Speaking strictly for myself - I know about the Flintstones and Yabba-Dabba-Doo (it was impossible to be unaware of them when I was a kid), but it wasn't at all clear to me either why Gwendy said that. I've never heard a haircut described as yabba-dabba-doo!

Thanks so much Mads! This sounds like it was quite the episode. Don't know if I should watch it or not because it sounds extremely painful. Although, I do want to see the scenes between Leo and Diego. Hopefully, Nepo will come to his senses about this much more quickly than he is with the Lupe situation. I'm not holding my breath though.

Vivi, most of the episode is pretty good. You should at least watch the scenes before it all blows up, where Diego and Leo go to the movie and then when they're chatting before Nepo arrives. You can always FF through some of his yelling.

I seriously for real had to get off the elliptical to cringe in fear when Nepo arrived and was looking through the window. He was already loaded for bear before he even saw anything. I couldn't believe the way he barged right through the fonda and then sneaked up the stairs (although Mati saw him). He lacks boundaries.

Thanks for the recap Madeline!

Another little funny moment for me was when Diego told Perla “if you can’t control it, don’t smoke it” after she asked him if he was quitting futbol for her. The haircut talk was funny too, basically Diego chose a cut like Ricky Martin but then backed out when Gwendy asked if that’s how he likes them (the haircut that is). Diego got the double meaning in her words and said he wasn’t ‘feeling’ that haircut anymore.

Nepo found out about Diego and Leo in the worst way, seeing them about to share a kiss. But I think that was the only way that he would have understood that his son is gay. If Diego would have talked to him he might have thought his son was just confused and blamed it on the Ruizpalacios as usual. I agree that Diego needs get away from Nepo, otherwise he will never let him be himself.

Evelin

I missed that comment from Diego! That's a funny twist on a way to say "Are you HIGH?! Where do you get these stupid ideas?"

Vivi:

Yes, please watch. That date with Leo and Diego is well worth it, plus MA escaping from that prison of a house, and showing how much he's evolved since the beginning of this TN by giving that child his food. Also Mini's interaction with the Security guy and finding MA had fled too funny.

Evelin,

You are so right. But those guys at the market were way over the top too, insinuating things to Nepo before he even saw Leo and Diego. I am so glad Trofeo ran them off and I think the concern that Trofeo had was not for Nepo but for Diego. Maybe Trofeo will get Nepo to see reason. Somebody needs to knock the stuffiness out of Nepo's head.

Emerald Rose:

I'm glad Nepo didn't shoot Leo or Diego either, but as Julie said, Nepo doesn't have that gun anymore. The police now have that gun that Nepo had, when MA left it there with Adolfo.

Marta and Julia:

Thanks for the info on Don C and losing the house. I'm afraid that Ahole will do something dirty, with the help of Vilma of course, to try and take that house, or as Julie said, to use as blackmail to get Lupe to marry him. He wants that Presidency so badly, he'll do just about anything to get it!

the presidency is just the symbol of the power.
The problem for A=hole is that he is (IMO) getting too full of himself too fast lately. He is even starting to work/act around Vilma and then I hope soon he will make a move that will back-fire on him and he will make a big mistake that will turn things around. maybe Vilma will have the option of doing something in his favor but this is where the realization that he did kill Adolfo will come back to bite him. At least the previews show the investigator telling his boss (or was it A-hole?) that the shots that Adolfo got came from two different guns... so the doom is peeking around the door for A-hole now.

what I meant by the presidency is the symbol is that A-hole wants it all, he wants the power, the money and the 'category' that comes with the presidency... and he does not want to share it with ANYONE, least of all with MA. He could care less about Vilma, Lupe, MA or anyone else, definitely not about Mini or Dear Mom in law. he only cares about himself. Emiliano would only be an annoyance once he gets the presidency status to be permanent. So that is what i am afraid, that Emi will be the biggest victim here.

Thank you for pointing out that Nepo no longer had a gun. Sometimes loose track of who is doing what, except for Mini and Isela. Also Leo ad Diego always manage to hold my complete attention.

Madelaine, thanks for the wonderful recap and you did it all from memory. You are one talented--I was going to say "chica" but keeping in the tone of the novela--chamaca!

Yabba dabba doo has been used before to describe something that was great. What an odd expression to be adapted into slang.

I think that they did a wonderful job with the "kiss". They evidently didn't want to offend anyone so they were smart in just showing Nepo's reaction. I know Leo kept on saying that his face was here and Diego's face was there but I think they actually kissed. Leonardo was so hard pressed for words to describe the scene to AS I don't think he could admit the truth. Just my interpretation.

I felt sorry for Leonardo because AS was so unavailable and useless when he really needed her. Maybe Diego will be moving out on his own soon. Nepo has lost two of his dreams in a relatively short time but his violent temper and obsessive thoughts in dealing with these disappointments are dangerous.

Poor MA. I am ready for him to be delivered from "schmuckville". Something has to break in his favor already.

Can't we all head to the beach already? Maybe don Chuy just needs some R&R.

Jarifa

Emeraldrose, if you can keep track of Mini and Isela, you are way ahead of me. :-)

I've lost track of whether or not they're on the same page regarding Alejo. Is really Isela plotting with Alejo behind Mini's back, or are they working this scam together?

At first I thought Isela was going behind Mini's back, but then Mini seemed to know what her mother was up to. But now it appears that Mini didn't know about the "donation to support immigrants from Europe who can't find jobs."

So, I *think* the deal is that Isela has let Mini in on some of it, but not all of it. Isela is giving Mini's plan a chance to work, but she's also hedging her bets by keeping Ahole on the hook.

Or at least she thinks she's hedging her bets. Ahole doesn't seem to expect her to really give him the info he wants, and he has no intention of letting them keep the house. He plans to stall on the paperwork to turn the house over to Mini, find MA himself, and then kick the women out of his house. At least I think that's what he said.

Thanks Madelaine,

What a great memory you must have. This recap is very well done.

I learned a nifty new word from the taco vendor. He asked MA to move to the side because "Me chiveas (chivearse) a la clientela." (You're embarrassing me with my clientele.)

I don't think that I've seen or heard that word before.

Loved when the little boy told MA never mind that he looked worse off than the kid himself.

Wow, I'm very disappointed in Nepo, remember how understanding and tolerant he was when he thought MA was gay?

Carlos

Oh, by the way, in the avances it looks as though the cops are aware that there are 2 pistols and Alejo is a bit nervous.

Carlos

Beach! Beach! Beach! Yes, I hope Chuy is prescribed a nice rest by the seashore like in an olde-tymey novel, and all the good guys go.

Of course Nepo didn't care when he thought Miguel Angel was gay. MA is not the puppet through whom Nepo lives vicariously.

Carlos, I think Nepo was more tolerant of gay-MA because he thought MA would help him out with Lupita, and because he knew Lupita would get mad if he wasn't nice to her "cousin."

Also... well, LOL, I see Julia has beaten me to it again. I was going to say that Nepo hadn't invested the rest of his self-esteem in MA becoming a futbol star with a supermodel wife.

No Father's Day card for Nepo!

Jarifa:

Thank you so much : ) I liked what you said about MA being delivered from "schmuckville" it's so true. I wish he would stumble on something against Ahole to get the ball rolling.

Carlos:

I was really focused on this episode, so much angst, I just couldn't look away and afterwards I kept thinking about the episode. It was still with me this morning, so I think that's why I retained it so well. Actually I used to do a lot of my recaps for the comedies from memory. I think I'll go back to doing that. Thanks so very much for the Spanish phrase, I'd also never heard that before.

Jarifa and Julia:

Yes, we need the beach. I really liked the last trip they took, this one should be a hoot, cause it looks like Ana Chofi goes too. This should be a hoot.

OMG remember when Chatita fell down the stairs in PEAM and we said she needed the modesty faerie? Nepo need the modesty faerie here with that practically fully open blouse of his! If you can't stand the heat get outta the kitchen Nepo!

I like how Jose Eduardo Derbez cries better than his mother!

"Me chiveas a la clientela" would be "You'll scaring off the customers." Also, this isn't the first time MA has given away his food when he himself was in a tough spot. I seem to remember him giving away a sandwich that Lupe had made for him. I love this community of QPTR watchers :-)

Oops. Me type funny. Should be "You'll scare off the customers."

Personally, my pet peeve with this novela is all the censorship. I think that this story is trying to put across a message; however, it is countered by the censorship where UNIVISION wants to treat the audience like ostriches where it is better to keep buried in the sand and not hear what the antagonists have to say.

I can't deny the real life stories of people that through no fault of their own love outside the norm. Yet the only message that UNI gets across is to eliminate everything that could be deemed controversial. A better choice would have been to not have aired this novela. No harm, no fowl.

For those that want to see the uncensored version, have a look here:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwUewUwfXRo

(Add the dots)

This point to the beginning of this episode. Link for the remaining parts are available on the page or click on the poster's name then click on video. Look for episode 112.

I really think that this novela touches a same-old topic in a totally different and innovative way. The few novelas that I have seen where there is a homosexual character he is usually portrayed as a clown, almost a buffoon. Yet this novela lets the audience see that people are different and they can be our neighbors, our friends, our family and are people who seek the same things we do in life. Kudos to Televisa and jeers for UNI.
