Que Pobres Tan Ricos 120: Mike goes to jail. Ana Sofia takes some nourishment.

Thanks to Julie for switching with me, I'm leaving town very early tomorrow. This recap was done without subtitles so please fill in the good stuff.

Mike gets his mug shots taken in the prison and meets his new cellmates, two guys who loathe him until he uses his newly-acquired barrio slang to convince them he's a homie, then they are best buddies.

Carmelita tries to cheer up Lupe, who has to be brave for everybody. Perla is full of herself for being on the cover of Alejo's magazine and has big dreams for the future. Lupe thinks it's bad she's getting enmeshed with Alejo. Tizoc says he'll be famous too, he and Perla will be famous together.

Alejo tells Wilma he detests Emiliano but "he's mine and nobody else's" and is needed, along with Lupe, in the winning of the winner-takes-all will (Don Aureliano, what an idiot you were). He scoffs at the idea of his cousin with such a low class girl "So of the barrio - but such a great body - what a woman... No! *I* have to end up with the woman and the snotnose kid."

There's more bad news, Wilma says: look at the cover of our magazine, Minerva has put an actual Mexican ("a naca") on the cover! At first Alejo is enraged but then he decides this is good, now Minerva the tarantula will get fired! Then, buoyed, he gets the good idea to get Mike murdered in prison. Wilma says, that's going a little too far. He gets Wilma to fetch his little black book of criminal buddies and hire them to get Mike offed. Wilma begs him not to proceed. He says happily: by tomorrow Mike is dead.

Diego and Leo are talking about work. Diego is disheartened, he's having no luck, for one thing he has no college degree. He'll sell his car for living expenses, he can't cadge off Wendy. Leo suggests he could coach kids' soccer, but Diego says he can't work at a school without a degree. Without subtitles I missed a lot of this. I think Leo is trying to get Diego interested in studying something artistic - maybe on the internet.

Mike's cellmates tell him you can't get justice without influence, so Mike is very down when Saul comes and they have their usual conversation. He tells Saul there are guys in prison serving a decade or two of time for minor offenses or crimes they didn't commit.

Mike's worried for Mati, and rightfully so. The evil nurse is shooting her up with drugs. Mati moans sadly to her dead husband, then gets shot up again. It's extremely hard to watch this. Saul goes to the top policemen and tells him: Mike thinks Alejo is drugging his own grandmother! Please investigate, and hurry!

Minerva muses: shall I blackmail Alejo into making me rich ("making US rich" Isela interjects) in exchange for Wilma's laptop? Or shall I save Mike and prove how much I love him, and get his ardent kisses back! (I never saw the beginning of this TN and can't believe Mike ever wanted to kiss Minerva.)

Alejo bursts in on Minerva and her mother doing no work as usual. He gloats, you're going to lose your job over this (the Perla cover). She sees it for the first time (she never paid attention when she approved it). She's aghast. She's summoned to a big meeting. Minerva thinks: now the anvil falls on my perfect blond curls. But no! Actually, the board happily exclaims, this issue is selling better than any other issue ever! Minerva collects herself and says: "Yes, this was all my idea! It's time for real Mexicans to be on our cover, not Europeans! "Latina Hot! Viva brunettes! Viva Mexico! I'm the greatest!" she crows.

Emi gets sent out to play so Lupe can give Frida the terrible news that Mike is already in jail. They cry. Lupe says hope is all there is. Frida is worried about her grandma too and can't do anything. FF>

Don Chuy wheedles Ana Sofia into having some soup. He gives her a long pep talk: you may have lost all your money but you have what's most important - your children. And they're all having troubles, Mike most of all. You need to get out of bed and pull yourself together. Ana Sofia actually says he's right! She actually thanks him - several times - for EVERYTHING!!

Carmelita, who eavesdropped, is annoyed Chuy is being so sweet to AS. Why, instead, aren't you babying your own Lupe who is destroyed by her BF being in jail?

Minerva says she'll do whatever is necessary to help Mike - but she won't give the laptop to Saul, she will only "negotiate" directly with Mike.

AS and Carmelita hiss a bit at each other in the kitchen. AS doesn't think much of Carmelita's cooking.

Don Solomon the money lender comes in, he wants to go on a date with Ana Sofia. Chuy says she's unwell. Solomon says he'll come back, but, while he's here, how about the money he's owed? Chuy says he'll bring it by one of these days.

Isela complains to her daughter: don't help Mike in exchange for nothing! Minerva points out: if I get Mike freed, he'll be a millionaire again.

Tizoc tries to cheer Frida by telling her how famous he's going to be.

Mike's cellmates come up behind him with long glass shards, they are going to kill him.

Tomorrow: Perla turns out to have some business sense (like, she'd like to get paid for being the cover girl). And probably (though this is not in the advances) Mike does not die.

Jane- Thanks so much! I got home just in time to see this epi. Another sad one. FREE MATI!!

Tizoc's focus on his imagined future fame was a bit annoying in the face of Frida's suffering, although he did manage to get her to smile at the end. And Chuy needs to offer the same loving support to Lupe that he is offering AS, who doesn't deserve it! It's like he's passive aggressively punishing Lupe for dating MA against his wishes.

Jane, thanks for the great recap!

I liked:

MA having a cellmate named "El Mascahuesos" (the Bone Chewer) and getting along with his cellmates through his use of the vernacular he learned in La Nopalera.

Don Chuy and Lupita's reaction to Perla's magazine cover and realizing it influenced Perla's change in opinion of Alejo.

Diego literally taking a walk after Leonardo confesses to him that he really didn't take that many classes but he did visit lots of museums, exhibitions, traveled, went to movies, auditioned for The Lion King, etc. but mainly was partying. Diego is not too sure what he thinks of Leonardo at this point, what is true or just BS. Leonardo goes running after him.

Lupita telling Frida that they would give doña Mati one more day and if they didn't hear from her they'd go over to Alejo's house to see what was up.

Perla realizing she has received no payment for her magazine cover after Tomás makes the comment that she must have made a lot of money from the cover photo.

I didn't like:

The continued mistreatment of doña Mati.

Perla and Tizoc talking about how Alejo could help them in their careers .

Emiliano being all sullen after his outing with Lupita and telling her to leave him alone when she tried to hug him.

Minerva insisting on negotiating in person with MA for the laptop.

Vivi, that was an interesting comment that you made about don Chuy's lack of support for Luipta.

Jane:

Thanks so much for this ab fab recap.

I only watched a little of this tonight. I had to look away when poor Dona Mati was begging not to be injected by Dinora and Dinora being mean and nasty to her. I want Dona Mati to be rescued, with a quickness. Enough already!

I had to laugh at Mini in the boardroom with the "Zombies" and the "Hecklers" were egging her on, so funny, while Ahole is breaking his pencil.

I do have to laugh every time Ahole brings up Napoleon, really, really? Napoleon got exiled to Elba! I guess Ahole forgot all about that!

I wonder if MA's new roomies will save him from those cretins or maybe Bambi comes to his rescue. They are due for a chat, Bambi and MA.

I agree about Don Chuy and not supporting Lupe. It's time he buried the hatchet with MA and tells Lupe he supports her and is behind her. I love the way he is supporting Frida and Leo, especially with Leo's prior attitude of being entitled.

So Leo is a bit of a scammer too isn't he? But then again, think of Walt Disney. The man was dishonorably discharged from the Navy, didn't go to college and built up an empire all on his own. Leo could be someone like Walt, jus' sayin'.

Oh, and when oh, when is Vilma going to wake the heck up. She sees and hears Ahole making plans to kill MA, she doesn't protest the medicating of Dona Mati, and she still hasn't made the connection about Ahole killing Adolfo, especially when the Top Cop told them the ballistics didn't match. Hmmmmmm.......

I also hope Top Cop checks into Mati's condition. I'm sure MA kept that paperwork with the testing the lab did on Mati and the Doctor she went to visit later. The least the Top Cop could do is visit that Doc.

The thugs that went after MA in the end were NOT his cellmates... so I like Mad's theory that either Bambi or his cellmates will come to his rescue...

I am with you all that Chuy needs to stop paying so much attention to AS and focus on his children.

Perla needs some reality check, as well as Tizoc.

Mads,
you like that fact about Walt Disney? did you know he tried to get a job as journalist in a paper and got rejected for 'lack of imagination/creativity'?? lol!

here are some more of those 'failed at first but...' anecdotes.

Vivi, it sure does look like It's like (Chuy)'s passive aggressively punishing Lupe for dating MA against his wishes.
and he picked the worst moment for that...
Is this the beginning of a reivindication for AS? I know it did not go far, she still treated Carm as trash, but still it is showing some signs of hope.

I loved the face of A-hole at the meeting. He was considering Mini's getting fired 'in the bag!' and then SURPRISE!!! and Mini's cheering herself was priceless!! although I did not like that she fake-cheered brunettes and mexican natives.

Marta:

Thanks for the link. I knew about some of the people on the list, but I really got a kick out of Charles Schultz being rejected by Walt Disney, how funny. I bet ole Walt was kicking himself later : )

yo, i still love the Disney getting kicked for not enough creative ideas the best... lol
and michael jordan getting left out of his hs basketball team.

Good morning!

Just a quick note to share two videos. The forst is theofficial song Mi Tesoro and the second is a quick behind the scenes peek at the Acapulco part of the story. :-)

I'm really sick of Vilma at this point. She had the gall to call MA a criminal knowing full well that she's covered up the crimes MA has been charged with. She's supposed to be smart, so she can't really believe MA killed Adolfo, either.

I'm also sick of all the babying AS gets when she's such an awful person who refuses to change. And yes, Don Chuy is ridiculous. I want him to find out AS stole the money.

Thank you for a great recap. Does anyone know when "La Gata" will air on Univision? I read it was to start on June 23, have my recorder programmed for that date, but then I have seen nothing more about it.

Emerald Rose:

They have shifted La Gata to September sometime. They are starting Mi Corazon Es Tuyo on July 21st. Who knows why Uni does what it does?

I want La Gata to replace QPTR because i want to take a break from the 10pm slot... not a big fan of Maite P.

Thanks, Jane!

I have a lot of catching up to do (recaps and comments), but will be ready for tonight's episode. I sure hope it's more cheerful than it looks.

And yes, something tells me that Bambi's thugs are bigger than Ahole's thugs, so let's hope that MA and Bambi do lunch together soon.

Martaivett an Madelaine thank you for the update of La Gata. I am a long time Daniel Arenas fan and look forward to seeing him in this novella. Still liked his swaggering self in Amorcita Corazon, not so much in Corazon Imdomble. Hopefully he will be full of himself in La Gata.

Thanks, Jane!

I hate what is happening to Mati, and I hope the lawyers and investigator get on the case with the evidence MA had gathered IMMEDIATELY. That should be a higher priority than MA's release. Somehow I suspect he is going to be just fine, especially if he can meet up with Bambi in prison.

I liked when Leo confessed to Diego that he may have slightly inflated his qualifications to be an art teacher. They are funny. Also liked when Diego was talking about how hard it was going to be to find a job with his lack of education and experience, and Leo pointed out this is how he felt when everyone was telling him "just get a job!"; that it isn't that easy.

Perla needs to hire Tomas to represent her. It didn't even occur to her that she should be paid until he mentioned it. I'm sure she has no idea how much money she should be asking for, or any other contractual conditions she should demand. She'll probably take any puny offer unless someone competent advises her.
