TELEMUNDO Y MÁS: THE FRONT PAGE -- El Señor de los Cielos II, En Otra Piel, et cetera, week of June 30, 2014
Just as we left her on Friday, Elena continues ranting at Gabriel for being on the premises at Casa Serrano. [What? Doesn’t she think Gabriel and Ricardo talk to each other? The night before she was all sweetness and light to Ricardo.] Gabriel isn’t taking any crap. He tells her to stop behaving as if she owns the house. After all she was rescued just like his mother, his brother and him. He laughs at her after he sees how effective this dig was.
Mondriana is walking along, dog leash in her hand, talking to herself. She repeats that they killed her and are going to pay. [Apparently the leash is a prop and Pacho had the day off, because there’s a quite calm cat walking around behind Mondriana.]
Gerardo asks Ernesto how much money they have stashed away from the sale of the adulterated “private reserve” wine. Ernie says it’s almost $5 million. Gerardo tells him it’s time to divide it up. He plans to take his half and leave with Mónica. Ernie keeps telling him how much money there still is to get from the business. He tells Gerardo he’s making the biggest mistake of his life. Gerardo replies that the greatest error would be staying here and putting up with Elena. He says he only wants a quiet life with Mónica.
Selma is back at Luz Marina’s psychic shop. She tells Selma they need to help Esteban find his way to the light. She says he’s been trying to communicate with her. In fact she dreamed of him. When Eileen calls her mother, LM freaks out, saying she can’t use a cell phone there; it interrupts the messages or some such [!]
Diego is in the kitchen with Marta. It’s looking to me like maybe Gerardo was right to try to fire him! The guy doesn’t work much. He asks Marta if Mondriana is eating right. He then goes on to ask if there is a cellar in the house. Marta doesn’t tell him to get out there and cut the grass, though; she tells him she’ll try to find out.
Ernesto tells Gerardo that Elena would find him wherever he went and, after finding him, shoot him for having abandoned her! Gerardo replies that, if she gets anywhere near him, the police will receive an account of everything she’s done. Gerardo then gives his very untrustworthy brother his account number of a Cayman Islands account so the money can be wired. Rather late for this, but he then asks Ernie if he can trust him not to tell.
On her longish walk Mondriana encounters Camila, who’s walking her horse. Camila is keeping her word and not being so defensive around Mondriana. After Mondri tells another warm anecdote about her mother, Camila says that, while Mondriana saw the best of their mother, she and Emiliana not so much. Camila says she’s going to tell her something in confidence. She then tells her the story about her mother having practically ruined the business and that Gerardo had to sell 30% of it to keep going. Mondriana asks her who told her about this, and Camila says it was Elena. When Mondriana says that it might not be so, Camila says that she has no reason to doubt Elena. She also doesn’t think Gerardo alone could have done so much damage in such a short while. Mondriana hints that he might have been taking money.
Lorena comforts Emiliana about hearing that Gabriel is going to get married.
Ernesto tells Gerardo that he’s going to leave as well so that Elena won’t be able to take it out on him. Gerardo says he expects that money tomorrow. He then takes some stacks of $100 bills out of his credenza.
Mondriana tells Camila that she understands how Cami feels. Her mother committed the worst error of her life marrying Gerardo. Cami looks kind of startled at the vehemence of this comment. Camila says she’s going to keep on fighting for the family business. Mondriana implores her to let Jorge do the fighting. She tells her that, if the new guy is as bad as Cami says he is, it could be dangerous to fight him. [I’m pretty sure Mondriana has no idea that the bad guy in the office is Carlos Ricalde. She saw him at Esteban’s funeral, but didn’t make the connection with the guy who was working at Larrea Wineries. And she never goes to the office.]
Jorge storms in to Casa Serrano, ignores Susana, and goes right in to see Elena. He says he’s been trying to reach her, both by cell and land line, since yesterday. Is she avoiding him? Rather weakly she says she left a message last night. She tries to brazen it out. She says she didn’t know “Camacho” was going to cancel the sale. He says then that makes three of them surprised: Gerardo, her and he himself! He says he finds that difficult to believe. [I like to see Elena having to face someone she can’t bulldoze.]
Back at Psychic Central we see Selma watching Luz Marina walk down a path lined with candles. Again we hear the voice of Esteban coming from her mouth. Selma grabs hold of her, wanting more. Luz Marina tells her she’s lost the connection. She also says she’s exhausted by the effort. Selma leaves some money in an envelope. As soon as Selma is out the door, the “exhausted” Luz Marina jumps up and starts to count the money. OK. Looks like fraud. Not sure how she gets the voice, but she’s definitely scamming.
Elena tells Jorge the problems with the business began a long time ago. Jorge tells her that Mónica was completely honest. Elena replies that she had secrets. She goes on to tell him that Mónica had many lovers and that she treated them like kings! [We now see that Mondriana is listening and watching from the secret room. She’s completely aghast at the gall of Elena.] Jorge asks how she dares to say such things about Mónica. Elena starts whining that she’s tired of covering up things for her perfect aunt that everyone loved. Jorge firmly says she isn’t going to convince him of this. Elena says she has no reason to lie. She goes on to say that Mónica had a weakness for younger men. That Gerardo was not the first. She says she overheard her dear uncle Julián begging Mónica to stop. [Mondriana, from the secret room: ¡Maldita! Eres un demonio! Elena tells him that it was a relief for Mónica when Julián died. Now she could carry on easily having young lovers.
Gerardo has apparently never heard of making airline reservations on line. He tells his secretary to book him a flight to Paris (and a return one – for show surely) to visit some business contacts. This is the same woman who blew his cover before when she told Elena he was going to see Jorge instead of where he’d told Elena he was going.
Eileen comes to see Rod. She’s worried about her mother. She heard that he was good at writing screenplays. She wants him to write one that will expose the fraudulent psychic who’s making her mother think she’s in touch with her deceased boyfriend.
Mondriana has texted Gerardo to meet her at the Lake House. He arrives and she’s set the scene: Flowers, candles, the ever-present chilling bottle of telenovela champagne. She tells him not to say anything. He pulls her to him saying he’s dying for her. She mutters that it’s the minimum she expects of him – that he would die for her.
Diego has gone through the tunnel entrance and is snooping around in the secret room. [OK! What freaking nerve! He has absolutely no right to be looking through everything there!] Eventually he finds the photo of Mónica and Adriana together, the selfie taken in the back of the limo, with the word “venganza” written on it. Cripes! He folds it up and takes it with him. The camera keeps showing us the dije on the floor but he doesn’t find it.
Selma is having a drink with Jorge. He asks her if she thinks Mónica was unfaithful to his brother. He tells Selma that Elena was the one who told him that Gerardo was not the first younger man. He says it cost him a lot to believe it. He remembered how she was in their youth. Selma assures him that she hadn’t seen Mónica for a long time. But when they reacquainted she was the same transparent and honest person as always. Jorge says that sometimes he thinks Elena is calculating and other times that she’s someone who’s suffered.
Back at the Lake House Mondriana starts taking off her clothes. Things are heating up. She calls him mio caro amore (Italian). This is apparently what Mónica called him when making love. He jumps back like a scalded cat. “Why did you say that?” She pretends to be completely confused by his reaction.
Selma tells Jorge that she has to make a call. It’s to Mondriana and the excuse for her leaving Gerardo frustrated once again. Mondriana says it’s Eileen who called. That Selma is having a terrible crisis in her grief. Gerardo, brusquely: “Well, give her an anti-depressant or a tranquilizer!” [What a guy!] Mondriana insists that Selma needs to let her grief out and to have a shoulder to cry on. She tells him to wait for her.
Lorena and Marta are talking in the kitchen. Lorena can’t understand why Marta is so resistant to Gabe and Jen getting married. Marta admits that she’d love Jennifer as a daughter-in-law, but things didn’t go the way she’d imagined them. [Really? Wake up, Marta! Children seldom do things the way one “imagines”!] Marta goes on to tell Lorena that Jorge spent quite a while in the office with Elena.
Lorena hotfoots it to confront her daughter. Diego is still in the secret room and follows the sound of the voices. He discovers the peephole as well. Lorena asks what Elena told Jorge. With her usual sadistic smile, Elena tells her mother that mi tía Mónica y tú cojeaban del mismo pie. (You and my aunt had the same weakness.) Lorena is aghast. “Monica never had a problem with alcohol” Elena replies and Diego overhears her say that the two sisters are a pair of zorras.
Terrific recap, novelera. Thanks very much! I'm always grateful for the inclusion of Spanish that I didn't know, and I've now added "cojear del mismo pie" to my list of useful phrases that I won't remember when I need them. :-)
Like you, I was struck by Gerardo's trusting his brother with the Cayman Island account number. Ditto for his asking his secretary to make the Paris plane reservation. I guess for the purpose of telenovela plots it's useful that some characters never learn.
And what was the point of Eileen asking Rodrigo to write a script unmaking the medium? That made almost no sense to me at all. Indeed, I was sure I had misunderstood what she said, but apparently not. Oh well....
Everybody's going to Colombia! But before we get to the exciting (and completely novela/unrealistic) events there, let's check in with our other characters.
Leo has decided she WILL marry Ignacio. Does she love him? Well....this is just the only way she can stay in the country and avenge Ponte's death.
Elsa and Victoria have another mutual insult fest, this time in Ignacio's office, with Diana looking on. Both these ladies are tall, beautiful, immaculately coiffured and elegantly dressed. I enjoy their meetings even though nothing really happens.
Santiago is angry at Ernesto, telling him that Ruti's only 15, and Ernie almost pulls a gun. Ximena's angry at Ruti, seemingly heading down the wrong path. Ruti brings up the she's in love card, the she's not a baby card, and the she misses Dad card. Xime debates telling her that Dad killed Grandpa.
On to Colombia! Chema and Tijeras have arrived at Tostao's camp, along with Andrews. Chema is sure the Mexican working with Macario is AC. Lai is arriving, having ignored AC's warnings. Macario really wants AC to leave, since he keeps questioning Mac's authority.
Meanwhile, no one was watching Gildardo, and he overhears Monica looking at some pictures of her and AC, and talking about "Aurelio". Gil wonders who that is, then surprises Monica, puts a knife to her throat, demanding to know who Aurelio is. He'll never know, as Monica elbows him, knees him, pulls her gun, and without hesitation, kills him.
While she was doing this, Lai had been brought in to meet AC, and they're taking off their clothes down by the river. And of course, just when they're NOT with the main group, Tostao, Tijeras and crew attack. Guns are fired, lots of unimportant people get killed. Chema's watching with binocs, so far, can't find that Mexican.
Tijeras gets isolated behind a tree. Lai and AC can see him. Lai's eyes get wide, had no idea he was there, but she'd love to kill him. Tijeras doesn't see any of them. But before Lai or AC can shoot Tijeras, Monica arrives, and points her gun as Lai!
thanks so much Hombre,
you do this so well!
so doesn't Leo running around just drive Elsa nuts, so she goes looking for Ignacio, only to find Victoria in his office and what's this, a whole table full of Elsa stuff that Victoria is looking over, are you investigating me?
Tijeras and Tostao are like old fraternity brothers, is Cabo off on a drunk, they couldn't possibly drink any more that they already do, how about Mati bringing Betico a beer for breakfast.
not real sure on this Pantaleon guy, did Pancho/Francisco/Aurelio send Lola/Dolores/Monica to meet with him, kind of tense Aurelio poking around to see what occurred, she only had to get naked I guess, but isn't this guy Macario's boss, and isn't this what really upsets Macario, that now Aurelio is going over his head.
Chema's quest to find Aurelio, so boy Andrews asks him if he believes in reincarnation.
only Aurelio would be juggling two babes in the jungle during a firefight, only two we ask?
thanks novelera for another wonderful recap!
loved the cat,
also didn't like Diego pawing around in his employers personal affects.
tsk, tsk, Monica didn't put the 'dije' back in the safe, I have visions of Diego dragging Monica into a dark alley and putting it around her neck.
seems kind of dangerous the way Monica is playing Geraldo, (there seems to be real passion between them) I was half expecting to see Elena show up on an anonymous tip.
Thanks, Hombre. I'm up to date on this one at last, but will likely miss the rest of the week's shows since I'll be on vacation.
Don't we love the way Chema never gets in the middle of these firefights, but instead watches things from afar through binoculars slapping mosquitoes. He looks distinctly uncomfortable in the Colombian jungle!
Mathilde, Mathilde. She still has a thing for her nephew. It was a relief Lai showed up to remove him from temptation.
I think they're overdoing Mónica's jealousy. Of course, she was right about what was going on before the shooting started. But her threats to kill Lai seem excessive.
I was concerned she was going to lose her baby in the fight with Gil. I WAS glad to see him get shot!
I finally figured out who the guy is who plays Tosta'o. I had to look it up. He had blonde hair and was a sort of despicable rich kid in Niños Ricos, Padres Pobres. Carmen Villalobos was in that one also. Only watched bits and pieces. But the face was so familiar. What threw me off was long black hair instead of a short, spiked up blonde do. And, of course, the almost impenetrable Colombian narco accent.
I'm pretty sure our boy Ernesto is going to come to a bad end. And Rutila is pretty much a dope. She disagreed with her mother's quite accurate statement that Aurelio would have killed Ernesto for taking her virginity. She's definitely riding for a fall.
Thanks, Novelera. I also enjoyed watching Jorge confront Elena. Unfortunately, he waivered in the end with Selma when he admitted he didn’t know what to believe. And implying that Monica was a whore was such a low blow for Elena. Of course she apparently didn’t have friends there’s no one else to vouch for her loyalty. But since Mondriana heard it she now has another incentive to strike against Elena.
I didn’t catch the line where Mondriana told Gerardo that the least she expects is for him to die for her. I wonder if this will come true in the end.
I’m hoping that Diego’s discovery of the secret room won’t lead to trouble. We’ve already seen Elena looking for him at the entrance (and Jorge enters from the shed as well). Don’t know his plans for the photo but I’d be nice if he heard something more incriminating from Elena. Might help him put 2 and 2 together.
The good thing about Luz Marina interrupting the call is that Eileen figured out where Selma was. I’m guessing that Luz Marina ripped Esteban’s voice from a copy of one of their shows and tampered with it. Juanita, I think Eileen has a knack for encouraging others to follow their passion (i.e. Eduardo, Rodrigo, Valerie, etc). I’m basing this on her reaction when Eduardo told her that his father no longer writes but was once a great writer. I think he told her not to mention it but of course she did. With any luck her plan with Rodrigo will work.

I'll be on vacation the rest of this week, but hope we can get a Thursday recapper. Kelly, I'm sure will be doing Wednesday. And it appears there's no Telemundo novelas on Friday.
Spiteful Susana told Elena about Jennifer being Gabriel's girlfriend and that she's hiding out from a gang leader. Elena tasked her with finding out the guy's name. Elena's fuming about what Gabriel said to her in Monday's episode and plans, I'm sure, to get Jen snatched up by Rottweiler. I'm hoping for some nice heavy anvils for Susana.
They didn't actually show it, but it appears that Ernesto ratted out his brother to Elena about the adulterated wine and the proceeds from selling it having been transferred to the Cayman Islands. She's furious and told him he disgusts her. But, cool as a cucumber, he tells her that, if she feels that way, he's willing to sign over Larrea Wineries to her and they go their separate ways! I loved the look on her face!
Eileen's plan worked, and Luz Marina pretended to conjure up Rodrigo's dead wife! Selma walked in in the middle of this and was angry at Eileen for a while.
But they made up, and she spread Esteban's ashes in the ocean. Didn't look much like the Pacific to me, though.
Spanish Student, many thanks for your explanation about Eileen's request to Rodrigo. I had been viewing her request as a way to deal with the medium and her mother's gullibility, but what you say makes good sense.
Novelera, many thanks for your quick recap. I too am hoping for some nice heavy anvils for Susana. At first, I hoped that while she's poking her nose around in the barrio, she'd be taken by Pachuco, but I think Carlos and he made some kind of pact with the gang not to poach on women in the gang's barrio. Then I thought perhaps the "good" gang would deal with her, but that seems unlikely. But surely she'll be dealt with. Ojalá.
AC tells Monica not to kill Lai, they're in the middle of a firefight! Tijeras can't see them, but they can see him. AC happens to have a hand grenade, tosses it as a diversion. Boom! Tijeras isn't hurt, but AC, Moni and Lai escape. They eventually make their way to Montoya in Venezuela. Lai is still trying to seduce AC, but Monica says she's pregnant, and this stops Lai right in her tracks. When AC later wants to make out with Lai, she says nope, it's over.
Chema is really pissed off. Yeah, sure, they got millions of dollars of drugs, but what about that Mexican? No sign of him. The next morning, still no sign, but then they (Chema, Tijeras, Tostao and Andrews) find the cabin with Gildardo's body. And the picture! Yes, it's clearly Monica Robles, and some guy facing away from the camera. They also find one of Macario's troops, force him to identify the people in the picture. He says that's Lola and Francisco. He says don't kill me. Chema says I won't. He then tells some OTHER guys to kill him! Chema says, okay, at least we now know their aliases. I'm 100% sure this is Aurelio Casillas. Turning to Andrews he says you lied to me. Andrews says don't blame me, DNA results don't lie. It must have been Matilde, who tricked them.
Chacorta and Trino tell Bert that AC wants him to come to Colombia. They're leaving at 5 o'clock, he should be there. But Bert talks to Ximena and Santiago. Santiago offers him a job as head of the foreign branches of his company. He tells Bert he knows of his past, and still wants to give him a chance. Bert accepts.
This means he doesn't go to Colombia. Chacorta does, and when he arrives, finds out that AC's camp has been overrun. Chacorta wants to retake it, but AC nixes that. AC wants to establish the new lab in Venezuela, and I think Chacorta is going back to Mexico, they're not going to chance it against Tostao, especially since Montoya says no way, he's not getting involved.
Leo has to get married right away, to avoid getting deported. It was such short notice, they didn't have enough time to get material for her gown, so she just grabs a few tissues, they'll have to do. Actually, it's a white, one shoulder tight minidress. I like it. Ignacio's parents ask if he's sure, and of course he is. Leo's not, but she has to pretend. Victoria also shows up for the quickie justice of the peace wedding. After they say I do, Vicky and Leo meet, and Vicky says I want you to help me bring down Elsa Marin. Yes!!!!
thanks Hombre,
so smooth how you put this all together!
didn't Montoya have eyes for Lai (what a name) with Monica pushing Aurelio's jealousy, but I guess he had too much to drink.
hmm, I'm wondering about how a law student from Spain (Heriberto), with a bottomless tequila shot, is now an expert in Mexican law, does he even own a book.
not sure what happened to Macario.
Variopinta, you're absolutely right that the name is Lorelei. But since they pronounce her nickname as we would say "lie", I spell it how it would be in Spanish, Lai. Lei would sound like "lay".
Otra: Diego should mind his damn business, seriously. He'll get someone hurt.
Romy
Thanks, Novelera. I also enjoyed Gerardo's quick reply to Elena. I'd be surprised if she accepted since she prefers to appear competent but guilt-free. I can't see her being fully responsible for/to everything and everyone if he turns it all over to her. And I'm curious to see how Gerardo deals with Ernesto.
Susana ratted on Jennifer but doesn't know what Elena is capable of (not even after she suggested a flea market knockoff of the dress). I wouldn't be surprised if she is also kidnapped.
Emiliana gave Diego some pretty good clues. He now knows that they both were under some kind of spell before they died but not sure if he knows that they died on the same day.
Juanita, you were right that the point of Eileen's plan was to come up with "a way to deal with the medium and her mother's gullibility". I was only referring to why she chose Rod. Based on a comment by Rod the other day I'm betting that Eileen will inspire him and Diego/Mondriana will live the story that he'll write about.

Hombre
I think she must be a good one.
Rehash of Gerardo and Elena talking about the money Ger has in the Caiman Islands. I missed the first part, but it’s the usual stuff. She nags and gets all paranoid (rightly, really), and he tries to brush her off saying it was all to protect the money for the two of them. She continues to harp and warns him that he could go to prison with everything she has against him and the only reason he isn’t there is because she loves him. Nice.
Diego asks Marta about the day Monica died. Marta tells him about her feeling nauseous, and he perks up at this. She wants to know why he’s asking, and he explains that it’s because of the convo he had earlier with Emi. Marta buys this. She then tells him about her hallucinations, and it was like she could see things that other people couldn’t. Then she tells him about her spell at the piano, which I don’t really remember but I think it happened the day Carlos almost killed Adriana. Mo knew what was happening and she passed out. Diego wants to know if she said anyone’s name during this, but nope.
Ricardo and Camila are at dinner talking about Elena and the business with Raul. Ric says they have to investigate. He tells her to get some information and he’ll find someone to help understand the paperwork.
Ger yells at Ernesto about telling on him to Elena. They calm down (tranquiqui, bro), and Ernesto still lets Ger know he’s still making a huge mistake trying to leave with Monica.
Selma fills in Mondriana about what happened with the “psychic”, and Mo tells her she’s keeping on with the whole venganza plan.
Diego flashes back to happy Adriana times, and her telling the story of how she and Monica met. He then remembers the investigator from LA, sent by Monica Serrano and looking for Adriana. But then Vicki interrupts his thoughts and wants to give him coffee. At night. Like he probably doesn’t have enough problems sleeping.
Cami gets some paperwork from Mariana and she asks about Raul, but Mariana doesn’t know anything.
Ger thinks about Mondriana, and gets a call about some mystery plans. Mystery to me anyway, maybe I missed something?
Jenny does some work in the kitchen, and talks to Marta. Jenny tells her everything will be just fine because they are all in love. Marta is still being too practical for Jenny. She’s not having it. And then little birdies fly in and help her shuck the peas, or whatever she’s doing, and they all sing a song. Then Jenny tells Marta that Gabriel wants to the wedding on Saturday, but Marta still can’t be supportive, as much as she likes Jenny.
Mondri gets home and hears a knock on the door. She thinks it’s Gerardo, but it’s Diego asking about his new thoughts on Adriana and Monica dying on the same day. He goes on about this, but she finally gets him to leave before Adriana comes back.
Elena runs into Mariana in the hall. Mari asks if Elena wants to give the reports to Cami or if she should herself. Elena is ticked off and tells her these reports are confidential and threatens her job. The next time Cami wants something, they should go through Elena first. She then tells Ger about this.
Lorena goes to Jorge’s to ask him to forgive her daughter’s indiscretion about what she told him about Monica. She’s behaving oddly and he asks if she’s been drinking. Just a couple. But she’s drunk and Jorge won’t let her leave until she’s had some coffee. She sobers up a bit as they talk about Monica and the girls. Jorge wants to know if what Elena told him about Monica was an indiscretion or a lie. Lorena still defends Elena.
Diego is back at the barrio telling Rodrigo about the coincidence of Monica and Adriana, and if they hadn’t met before, then why did Monica Serrano send an investigator to Mexico to look for Adriana? Rod has a thought, but I didn’t catch it and it’s probably not even close anyway.
Ger confronts Cami in her office. He yells at her that he doesn’t want her messing in things she knows nothing about and that he’s been in business while she was just a school girl. She brings up his selling 30% of the business and she’s not about to let anything happen to her family business. Good for you, Sourpuss! She has no problem standing up for herself. Ger goes back to his office to be grumpy, and Elena verbally pats him on the head for doing what he was told. Not helping, Elena.
Maite is working at the barrio bar and talks to Anselmo about the poor girls going missing. I didn’t catch what she said, but it was about everything being about luck. It was probably something good because she’s a smart one, that Maite. Sorry, Carayites. Then she yells at the head gang guys whose name I never remember about why he isn’t protecting those girls. But he can’t. They are in the other barrio, he can’t do anything, and those are the rules.
Ger wakes up Mondriana the next morning for a surprise.
Diego enters the secret room again, smartly closing the grate behind him. He looks around some more, on the floor this time. Luckily he brought a flashlight because no lights this time. He finds the dije. No puede ser! He flashes back to Adriana panicking about losing her amulet and worrying about her soul. Diego might be done with the whole multiple personality thing.
Susanna and Marta bring something heavy into the shed. They see the grate and Marta thinks that’s where the rats came from that Elena heard. They put the heavy thing they brought in on top of the grate. Oopsie.
Ger is taking Mondri to a boat, the “Monica”. Oh, you’re dead wife’s name? No, it’s named after you, he tells her. How is he going to prove that?
Lorena yells at Elena, breakfasting in bed, about what she told Jorge. But it’s pointless, as usual. Cami enters and wants to talk to Elena alone. She tells Elena about Gerardo, and Elena starts to say that she’ll talk to him. But Cami is mad and demands to know how Elena couldn’t have known what was happening with the finances. Elena says it’s time to tell Cami the truth. Gerardo wasn’t the first young man that Monica spent money on. Ugh.
Marta asks Susan where Diego is (he’s still in the secret room pondering the dije). Then Susi tries to get the name of the gang guy after Jenny, saying she wants to know who to be careful of. Marta tells her she needs to be careful of her job, and never gives her the name.
Ger and Mo are boating somewhere. Mondri is getting concerned since Ger told her this would be a short trip. Ger wants her to not worry; they’re going where they can’t be found.
Kelly
thanks so much Kelly!
I had forgot about Monica's spells when she had the 'dije' and was reacting to things that were happening to Adriana, and how they seemed odd to those around her.
Detective Diego seems to be covering lots of ground, did we get a glimpse of Adriana in the mirror, Monica seems to get faint when Diego gets close, "don't touch me" as she scurries away, and what will Diego do now locked in the secret room, find the other door.
(it seems when Jorge was going to the secret room by way of the shed, he was in a tunnel that also had a peep hole into the study)
ah yes, Captain Ger, (are they off to Gilligan's island) ha, ha, ha you can't run from me now. (on a boat named for his dead wife, or not)
Thanks very much, Kelly, for your excellent recap. I had company last night and missed all but the last few minutes, so I had even more need than usual of a recap.
It will be interesting to see what happens when Diego can't get out from the secret room the way he got in.
And back to Mexico we go! Monica goes back to her house. She's a little queasy with the pregnancy. She and AC realize Chema is behind the attack in Colombia, and AC vows to take Chema down.
But Chema is also trying to take AC down. First he has to find him, now that he's convinced he's alive. He has 2 plans. First, he calls Matilde, wants to meet with her. She has no idea he's super mad at her about the DNA test. Second, Chema tells his guys to watch Monica's house, hoping that she'll lead them to AC.
Ernesto is not making wise life choices. First, after having declared his love for Ruti, he takes Victorcito to a brothel, paying for Vic's hooker with Ernie's new drug money. Chacorta's men see both of them there. I think Vic actually did lose his virginity. Ernie's other mistake is he's takes some drugs out of a stash somewhere in the church, and Padre Lazaro SEES him!
Santiago takes Ximena to one of his retreats, or houses, they'll spend the night, work on some project. Bert is left in charge of Ruti and Luzma. Santiago and Ximena make love, and he even proposes, but I don't think she's answered yet.
Turns out Ximena's projects may come back to haunt her. Why? Leo makes a deal with Victoria. Leo will help take down Elsa, if Vicky helps find Ximena, and by extension, Bert (for Leo's revenge/justice). Vicky's not too wild about this, but goes along anyway. They get out the computer, and find Ximena's picture with Padre Lazaro and a children's center. This should lead them to Ximena's location. Look out, Bert!
Back in Colombia, Macario meets with Pantaleon, is mad, but Pantaleon just says you don't ask questions, just follow orders. They're thinking of trying to retake what Tostao took.
AC arrives in Mexico, goes to pick up Bert to have him rejoin AC's operation. But Bert stands up to him, and calmly says NO. He explains that he has a new job with Santiago. AC gets a little upset that Ximena has a new guy, but Bert points out that AC has Monica, and "Mom can't remain a nun, can she?" I sort of think AC would like her to. At the end, AC asks again, but Bert says sorry, Dad, the answer is NO.
Also, Chacorta gets smitten by a girl named Irma, whom he meets at Pepe Johnson's party. She points out she's NOT a hooker. She doesn't want to give her phone number, so he writes his on her arm. He later wants his guys to track her down.
thanks so much Hombre,
so smooth.
this guy that follows Monica around, I forgot that he was her guy from her old house till they got back to town, it was just too odd out in the jungle.
I think Ximena's answer to Santiago's proposal was that it was a group decision and she would have to talk it over with the kids first.
was Monica chiding Lai on when she will be pregnant? no way!
didn't Aurelio buy a place for Monica, and that Chema guys tell him there has been no activity at Monica's place for 5 years (while they have been in the jungle), but Chema now wants 24 hr surveillance, and Monica tells her guy she is going to stop by there.
Matilde must wake up every day someplace different with a headache.
seems like Tosta'o is more an Aurelio kind of guy than Macario is.
Chacorta's new interest looked charmed, until he started treating her like a hooker, and she looked a little freaked at Chacorta writing his phone number on her arm, this can't go well. (we seem to keep getting reminded about Chacorta's one solution for life, kill everything, (his only sense of logic comes from his big brother Aurelio, if you can call it that)
(these narco-novelas seem to have a common theme, nothing is untouched, and nothing ends well for anyone)
Deb, thanks for the excellent clarifications and additions. BTW, Monica's guy, who looked ill at ease in the jungle, is named Ramon.
Hombre, muchísimas gracias for today's recap and, somewhat belatedly, for yesterday's as well. One question: did Aurelio ask Lai whether she wanted to become pregnant, too? I guess that's one way to expand the Casillas empire.:-)
deb, I loved your observation that "Matilde must wake up every day someplace different with a headache."
AC tells Bert that he's not going to force Bert to come with him. But we know he's not giving up. Later, he tricks Ximena by having a real estate agent tell her to come to a location for her new children's center. She goes, and there's AC. He tries the charm, trying to kiss her, cozy up to her, telling her she still has feelings for him. But she stays firm, reminding him of his womanizing, for which she forgave him, of his current romance with Monica (AC tells her Monica's pregnant), and finally Xime says did you forget that you killed my father with your bare hands?!!!
Let's look in on Chemas's two plans to find AC. First, he meets with Mati, who wonders if he's there to help some more with her club, or some other good news. Don't think so, as he SLAPS her. He says she faked the DNA test, knows AC is alive. Mati denies, plays it as cool as she can. Chema ends up saying get me info about Chacorta's business, remember, honey, you're working for me! She agrees, then calls Lai and says we have to walk a narrow line.
They sure do. Later, AC meets with Matilde and wonders if she's secretly working with someone else (she is - Chema). I forsee bad things for Mati.
Chema's other plan was to watch Monica. But he just seem to be patient, strong arms it into her house, and shows her the picture. Monica also plays it cool, says that's Francisco, you know AC is dead. Chema isn't totally convinced. I keep hoping he asks to meet Francisco, but he doesn't.
Rutila isn't happy to find out that Ernie took Vic to a bordello. Padre Lazaro tells Ernie to forget it with Ruti, but Ernie says too late, she's my novia.
Leo does appear to have some patience, watching the Padre meet with Ernie, then following them as they drop Ernie off at a location (I think it's Ximena's secret house). She drives off, but Ernie saw her, although I don't think he knows who she is.
Santiago tells Bert he got his money without doing anything illegal, through 3 generations of cattle raising. He also says he's not doing this for Bert, but for Ximena.
Chacorta sends an expensive necklace to Irma. She calls and says she can't accept it, but he's insistent on having dinner with her, and it's hard for her to come right out and tell him why she doesn't want to (she knows he's a druglord).
Victoria reviews some material about Elsa and the security when there was that explosion when the President was meeting the US drug czar. But it'll take a lot more to build a case against Elsa.
Elsa really wants Chema to kill Leo, but Chema says he already killed Juan, and later that other mayor to take suspicion off Elsa. So this one will have to wait.
Monica is have a difficult pregnancy. She's anemic, needs more iron, needs rest.
No episode tonight. Happy fourth, everyone!
I meant to say that Chema CAN'T seem to be patient. In general, characters in our shows rush in WAY too early, always tipping their hand. This happened many times in Pablo Escobar, until the very last time, where the cops were monitoring conversations for a LONG time, and it paid off.
wow, thanks Hombre!
love reading your recaps.
after Mati was slapped to the ground by Chema and working her way out of that, she swings by Alba's and in walks Aurelio after 5 years, wow, by the look on her face I think she had even convinced herself that he was dead, was she counting the days of her life she has left.
loved her call to Lai where they both sent their flunkies out of hearing range.
Ximena is a bit of a puzzle as she seems to have this undying love for Aurelio that keeps leaking out from wherever she stuffs it, but interesting that when Bert tells her Aurelio is in town she immediately jumps to the right conclusion, that all of their lives are now in danger.
so Monica is trapped in town to rest for her pregnancy, while she worries about Aurelio going off on business with Lai, but first he heads for Ximena to work his charms, what he only has 3 wives?
Great Hombre tks
I think Monica is going to suffer the same consequences as Mati. But both these "ladies" are mucha tough. Monica tougher but she is pregnant, I have faith in her skills, however.
Great recap as always, Hombre, and much appreciated (also as always, even when I don't say so).
