Lo Que La Vida Me Robo, Capitulo 167, 3 July, 2014 - 'The Sting'

The Sting

The Set Up

As cons go, you have got to admit this one was a classic. The plan, the timing, the execution—they were all first rate. The Perpetrator, Doña Graciela Mendoza, has years of experience of fleecing the wallets, pockets and banking accounts of her enemies, acquaintances and, sadly, yes, her children.

But this confidence scheme was breathtaking in its audacity. It was awesome, truly awesome in its ruthlessness. Why? Because, my friends, the ‘Marks’ were her two daughters and her son-in-law, all of whom she cheated when they were deeply vulnerable.

Niccolo Machiavelli, rise from your dusty grave and take notes! Even you could learn from this mistress of deception.

The Perp

As the scene opens, Graciela Mendoza, her face a very mask of tragedy, holds her long-lost daughter Fabiola, weeping, in her arms. Her face looks rough, covered with tears and snot.

The First Mark - Fabiola

Graciela has just told Fabiola of her true identity. She is Graciela’s long lost daughter, believed to be dead lo, these 38 or so years. Fabiola, is a pitiful and ruined drunk; raised with plenty of money and no one to love in convent schools from the age of three, she is the proverbial poor little rich girl. She shudders and weeps and keens over her unbelievable good luck—she has found a mother after all of these years.

Graciela tells her everything a motherless child would want to hear—

Graciela loves Fabiola
She needs her
She is all alone because her other children have rejected her
She wants to be close to her daughter to make up for all of Fabiola’s years of suffering
Fabiola is her dear, dear daughter; she needs nothing else.

“Mama, Mama,” sobs Fabiola as Graciela holds her in her strong arms. And Graciela promises the woman, her daughter, that she need never again be alone.

Later, Amalia, Fabiola’s Godmother, comes by to tell Fabs not to trust her mother. She is a VERY bad person and Amalia is worried that Fabiola could get hurt. She begs Fabs to get out of Aguazul before it is too late. She reminds Fabs of pleasant times they shared earlier in life, when they visited her in Miami—they were almost like a family. But Fabiola rejects the great good sense of her Godmother. She tells Amalia that Graciela only wants to be near her, to know her, to be friends. She accuses Amalia of being a liar and tells her that she will never forgive her. Never.

The Second Mark – Montserrat

Montserrat has always been easy prey for her mother. Although Graciela’s true nature has been revealed to her many, many times, she still maintains a cool and distant relationship with her Mother.

Montserrat is at the Sweet Shoppe, her place of business, with her former servants and now business partners, Macario and Dominga. She tells them the most recent chapter in the tale of the missing magic document, the authentic Last Will and Testament of Don Benjamin Almonte. Sandro Navarez, now dead, took the will. Her entire future happiness, and that of her beloved ex-husband, Alejandro, depends on recovering the thing. No one knows where it is.

The Patsy

Macario, who often plays the part of the wise fool, is in a different role tonight. He is Graciela’s patsy; set up to leak the secret of the precious Will’s location to Montserrat.  In a flashback we see an almost gleeful Graciela telling Macario of her terrible dilemma— She must choose between her two daughters, both of who have had injustices rained on their heads. If she gives the will to Montserrat, Fabiola will go to jail for conspiracy and falsifying documents that led to Alejandro loses his inheritance. Graciela conveniently fails to remember that her lies set Alejandro to be a criminal fugitive from justice, thus costing him seven years of his life.

Graciela dramatically posits—there is no way to save them both.

Macario plays his part. In his singsong tone and with the baby talk he often uses when playing the fool, he begs to differ with Montserrat. He tells her if she wants to know more about the will, she should talk to her mother.

The Con - Montserrat

Montserrat goes to visit her mother—she is worried and troubled by the info Macario downloaded on her.

Graciela declares her surprise at seeing her daughter and reminds Montse, that, as her mother, she will always be there for Montserrat. At first, it looks like Gracie is going to get a takedown from her daughter, who demands to know if her mother has the Will. Graciela confesses yes, she has it. Montserrat cynically reminds her mother of the deal she knows that Gracie made with Alejandro—in return for the Will, he will give Graciela his entire fortune.

Graciela caresses her daughter’s face, and tells her that there are many more things that are more important than money.

In the space left by the shock that Montse fells at her mother’s declaration that there is SOMETHING more important than money, Graciela starts the Big Con. To give the Will back will hurt one of her children. Naturally Montse says that none of this has anything to do with Dimitrio.

Now, Gracie goes in for a stunning blow. She is not talking about Dimitrio but about another child.

Here Gracie’s performance is Oscar worthy. Gracie tells Montserrat that she cannot imagine how she has prayed for guidance on this subject. Gasping with tears Graciela reveals to a shocked Montserrat that she has a half-sister. The baby she had with Don Benjamin Almonte did not die. She lives.

Gracie repeats her lies about how Fabs was stolen from her by Amalia and Macario. She pours it on thick by saying that she is now paying for all the mistakes she made with her children.

Montserrat bitterly guesses that Graciela will give the Will to Fabs, and that Fabs will tear it up and destroy it to protect herself from prosecution. But Graciela tells her that hse has taken a decision—she decided for Montserrat. She hands the will to Montserrat. She doesn’t want Montserrat to doubt the immense love she has for Montserrat. To help her recover her marriage, she gives the will to Montserrat.

Gracie tells her daughter that she was devastated at the velorio when both Dimitrio and Montserrat went to Rosario instead of their mother for comfort. She wants one more chance with Montserrat.

But Montserrat has been down this road with her weeping Mama before. She puts a condition upon giving her mother a chance to prove herself—Graciela must renounce the deal she made with Alejandro. Graciela must allow Alejandro to keep his fortune as proof that she has seen the error of her ways. Gracie reiterates Fabiola’s sad story to build sympathy for her with Montse. Montse remembers that Fabiola perpetuated a fraud, but you can tell that the sad tale of Fabiola’s miserable life is getting to her.

Montse starts as she realizes that Fabiola is also Alejandro’s sister. Gracie continues by saying that she doesn’t want Fabiola to end up in jail. She is pleading with Montserrat for mercy for Fabiola’s past crimes.

Graciela agrees to Montserrat’s conditions. She wants nothing from Alejandro. She sobs in Montserrat’s arms, repeating, “Te amo. Te amo.”

The Sting – Fabiola Is Completely Betrayed

Graciela comes to visit Fabiola and is greeted by her new daughter with a kiss. Gracie tells Fabi that they have serious problems. The REAL Will of Don Benjamin Almonte has come to light and Montserrat has it. She doesn’t know how Montserrat got possession of the Will.

She supposes that she must have gotten it from Sandro, but Fabi interrupts her Mother and says that Gracie told her that Maria Zamudio—not Montserrat, killed Sandro. Gracie makes up a new story, Montserrat came to Fabi’s house, got the Will from Sandro, and then Maria came and killed him. Fab looks disbelieving at her mother.

But Gracie’s spins out her story even faster. Fabi has to act immediately. When Alejandro gets his hands on the will he will denounce Fabs to the police.

Fabiola cries to her Mama that she does not want to go to jail. What can they do? Gracie tells Fabi she doesn’t know, she is trying to gather her thoughts. A ha! Fabi has to get ahold of all of the money in her bank accounts so that she doesn’t lose a penny of her inheritance to Alejandro!

Fabi is half hysterical as she announces that she has to disappear, NOW! Graciela says she does not want Fabiola to go; She does not want her to leave, not now when they have just found one another. She weeps and looks disconsolate.

Fabiola has an idea. Why don’t they leave together? Gracie, still crying, says no, she cannot leave her life and her other children. Fabs reminds her that her other children rejected her. They don’t need Graciela. Fab needs Graciela now, more than ever. She does not want to be alone, again.

Graciela agrees to go with her. But they cannot go without a penny. Fabiola now walks straight into the baited trap, all the while looking straight into her mother’s eyes. Do you know a place I could put all my money?  Fabs smiles while the trap closes behind her with a muffled sound, the sound of betrayal.

Why, Fabs could transfer all of her money into Graciela’s account, right now. Graciela turns her back on Fabs and says, “No way”. But Fabs insists. She could stand to lose the properties, the house, but not her money! No! It is ‘muchisimo”.

Graciela refuses again, but again, Fabs insists. They are talking millions here, and with that money, she and Gracie could go somewhere and recover their lost time together. Gracie says, yes, with this money they can recover their lost time. She is still crying ugly but she smiles at the thought. Paris, yes, Paris!

Fabiola now thinks that this scheme is entirely her idea and she insists—she will immediately transfer all her ready cash into Gracie’s account. Hurry, hurry, Graciela urges her daughter! Fabs tells her mother that she can do it all over the Internet. Does Gracie have her account number with her?

Conveniently, she does.

Graciela asks Fabiola again, is she sure she wants to do this. But Fabiola insists that this is the only way she can think of to protect her money. They hurry over to the computer together.

Fabiola says that Graciela is her mama and they will be together forever. Fabs open her accounts with her mom standing over her shoulder and together they hit the ‘enter’ button. We see from 10 % to 100% of Fabiola’s cash transferred to Graciela’s account.

Listo. Fab caresses her evil mother’s face and smiles a smile of pure joy.

Other Events

Jose Luis visits Maria in the jail cell. He is there to let her out, as the judge ordered. They have an ugly encounter where he taunts her and she threatens Montserrat. Jose Luis (JL) swears that if Maria harms a hair on Montserrat’s head, he will…kill her. As he gets up in Maria’s face, she pulls Jose Luis into an unwelcome kiss.

Maria has only one question for JL before she leaves—What happened to Lic. Pedro Medina? Was he arrested? Jose Luis tells her that Pedro is dead. Maria opines that having Pedro under the ground is the best thing for all of them.

Where Is The Body of Pedro Medina?

Many want to know. The Admiral tells EZ that the body is nowhere to be found, but the Navy is searching the gardens, grounds and surrounding areas. He has also ordered alerts put out at roadblocks and airports to stop Medina from escaping if he is NOT dead.

EZ tells the Admiral that he wants to know the status of his deal—he has cooperated fully with the authorities. But the Admiral has a couple of requirements from EZ—he must reveal the name of the Scorpion and he must tell Doña Carlota the truth of his escapades. EZ identifies Pedro and the Scorpion as one and the same but balks at telling his wife of his unsavory past. The Admiral has a final condition; EZ must quit his position as Mayor of Aguazul. EZ resists.

Adolfo returns home to find Maria waiting from him. She has great news! Pedro Medina is dead. She is delighted that Ado did this for her. Adolfo admits that he killed Medina not just for Maria, but also for himself, for his sister, his niece and because Pedro forced him into ‘the life’. Maria wants to know where Pedro’s body is and Adolfo’s face falls like a lead weight. Pedro Medina is ALIVE1

Adolfo and Maria freak out at the idea of ‘undead’ Pedro.

Naval Base

Dimitrio swears to the picture of Monica that he will kill the Scorpion with his own hands. Refugio tells him that the blood that was discovered was Pedro’s but the body is gone. Refu thinks that there are many with a motive to kill Pedro—Victor, Alejandro, Adolfo, etc. Dim wants Refu to lie off of Alejandro.

Josefina’s House

Laurito runs into the garden with his Grandmother Rosario hot on his heels. Rosario greets Nadia. Laurito, who looks nerdier than ever, has a gift for his Papa from his Mama. Alejandro opens the gift and finds the Will. He is elated. Everyone is happy for him.

Josefina returns home to tell the waiting group, Victor, Ale, Nadia, and Rosario that Pedro Medina may be dead, but they have not recovered his body.

Sweet Shoppe

Montserrat gives Macario and Dominga the news that she has the Will. She also chides Macario for keeping secrets from his friends.

Maria pops into to the Sweet Shoppe. She reveals to all that she was the one who let Jose Luis know that Montse was with Alejandro at the No-tell Motel. Montserrat gives her a resounding slap.

Hello, Patio Friends:

Happy 4th of July! This entire recap is a high-focus look at Graciela Mendoza.

This will be fun to recap.

Best to all,

Elna June

Elna June:

Could you please tell me when you will post the recap on July 4th? I missed some of the episode and would like to read your recap before seeing Friday's show. I live on the East Coast but believe you must live on the West Coast.
Love all your recaps and the great comments generated by your faithful bloggers.

Hi, Victoria:

It should be up by mid-day my time (PST). You are right, I live in California.

Happy Independence Day to you and we'll see you tomorrow!

Best Wishes,

Elna June

Dear Elna June,

I can hardly wait for your wonderfully crafted recap. Happy Fourth of July to you too!

Elna June:
Thanks for letting me know.

Carlos
No way MDJL helped Peddy escape. Why would he? He wants to bring Peddy down.

Well someone must have been helping him ,the body couldnt have just dissapeared by itself,Maria was detained at the time and Graciela was busy talking to Amelia. Maybe EZ did it but it doesnt benefit him keeping Pedro alive in the slightest which only leaves us with Mad Dog Alvarez.

And the scene with EZ and Robledo about the immunity reminded me of the tale of " Im the magical fish,i can grant you 3 wishes but you have to give me something" Lol

And it seems someones car gets blown up,hopefully its not Robledos and that Graciela is in that car. Or Pedro wrecking chaos on Adolfo for shooting him. Ah well there goes my peaceful daily cup of coffee in Aguazul, tommorow.

Robledo is the fisherman and Ezequel is the magical fish ,granting 3 wishes if anyone didnt understand my previous comment:) EZ is a much more deceptive and more astute fish then we thought though:)

New comment since one of my previous comments was a mini spoiler ,i got rushy and i apoligize for that: I wonder if JL was the one helping Peddy escape since he came to Peddys mansion way before the Marines and the Police came to arrest him.Someone must have helped him escape or he escaped by himself.Or maybe EZ did some kind of deal with Peddy so that in exchange for his forgiven life he gives up his status of being the head of the Mafia.Maybe he plans to fund Peddy so that he is spared of his upcoming vengeance. Which sorta explains why does EZ,in this very moment wants to obtain the immunity..

Hello Everyone!

Happy Independence Day!

Elna June,
Looking forward to your recap. I'm sure it will be splendid.

All I have to say is Gracie is one manipulative BITCH! She will absolutely do anything for money. She is as obsessed with money as BM is with Ale. I hope Montse realizes that her mother is up to something. I do know that Fabby is a lost cause. She will do anything to keep from being alone again. I pretty much guessed what Gracie's plan was once she went to see Fabby the day after. And Fabby fell right into Gracie's hands. That smirky and evil look on Gracie's face gave me chills.

I want to say more, but don't want to ruin it for those who haven't seen the capitulo yet.

On a side note. When I checked my guide I saw that Univision is airing two games on Friday. So if you are recording the episode, you might need to record extra time in case those games go long.

Off to bed...hasta pronto!

Yeah Graciela is one confusing character, she is so manipulative and Daniela Castro does her role so well. That smirk really gave everything away and how funny that Graciela said to Monse such a hypocritical line " In life there are things much more important then Money" and her Te Amos were masterful too,Amelia is right ,Graciela is the Utter Queen of All Hypocricity! And finally Monses Guard/Stalker finally spoke his first word and did his job for once ,what has he been doing then eating cakes and looking in the air all the time? Was he possibly employed by Arturo De La Riva before? You know the guy who has the most secure firm in the world where any stranger can go around ,unoticed and peek at others?

Graciela's whole number to Macario on which of her daughters she would sacrifice was total BS. She is shafting both of them. Watching her try to guilt-trip Monse was really getting me riled up and watching her manipulate Fabiola into the money transfer is the last nail in Gracie's coffin.

Her fall is going to be hard. If she's still alive at the end of this story she needs to be in prison (for the murder of Benjamin).

Alejandro's reaction to Monse's account of this is understandable and I hope they see a lawyer immediately.

Yeah Urban ,Gracie is going to have one hard anvil just like Pedro( I dont believe he is dead,i believe JL helped him escape because he wants to revenge himself against Alejandro or EZ made some dirty deal with Pedro.) And dont tell me that a guy who tried to rape his wife, threatended to kill Ale,Monse and in the end himself and that also cooperated with Gracie would reject the idea of revenge .JLs darkness is very strong,so strong that he might as well sell his soul to one of his greatest enemies to satisfy his goals.

CountxAlacran:

your posts have spoilers disguised as guesses all over them. please dont ruin it for those that havent seen future episodes.

Count, you may be on to something with JL. I thought it was odd that he was already at the house before the rest of the troops arrived. He got there early enough, noticed the guards gone, he could have snooped around and found Peddy. I would hope he wouldn't stoop that low to save that wretch, but at this point who knows.

My son surprised me and showed up very late last night for the 4rth weekend. So excited, so I may not be able to check in until much later. All I can say is watching Gracelss last night was one of the most nauseating experiences in this TN. She actually made me feel sorry for Fabs. May she rot slowly alone and afraid, weeping her fake tears. She doesn't deserve a quick anvil.

Daisynjay

Victoria G,

I haven't the foggiest idea what you are talking about. It never even occurred to me that JL might have helped Pedro escape. This is my first comment today and I've just now read the comments so far and am waiting for Elna June's recap before commenting about the episode.

Carlos

I don't see that happening because Pedro has enough minions that he could have called one to head over immediately. He could even have called EZ to send someone and it's a question mark as to what EZ's motive would be for complicity.

I don't think that MDA is sliding into criminality, but time will tell.

Carlos,
Sorry I confused you with CountxAlacran. I regret the mistake. But I hope you agree that it's too far fetched for MDJL to save Peddy.

Happy 4th of July to you Elna June! I wish you and all the Caray Caray community a wonderful day as we celebrate with family and friends as we pay homage to those who served, in life and in death, to keep us safe and our freedom intact.

I sheepishly admit the heat really got to me and after a very long day, kept dozing off.

I finally understood that Graciela was perpetuating a scam on Fab but did not get the details other than Fab looked radiant (foolish, foolish woman)

Carlos, like you, I did not understand what was mentioned about JL helping Pedro. I fervently hope this is not true...

Diana

Yeah,as i said EZ might have struck a deal with Peddy( Highly unlikely scenario but its possible, may the writers suprise us!) or MDA just stoop the lowest line of them all.And Peddy does not trust EZ ,not after EZ gave info about their traffic operation to the Navy and knowing that he also spared Marias life. My bet is on MDA now.

Wow. I know I was supposed to be horrified at Graciela's machinations but I just had to admire her cleverness instead. I've always thought she would have been great as the head of a corrupt South American country (well, any reasonably corrupt country) and now I find myself thinking what a fabulous spy, and/or double agent she would have been.

When it comes to Strategic Thinking, this woman is masterful. She identifies and exploits each person's weakness to her advantage. All I could think was "well played, Graciela". We know all her machinations will come to naught in the end, so I'm just sitting back and enjoying each diabolical move that she makes. Incredible.

Happy Fourth everyone. As Diana said, many of our forebears died so we could enjoy growing up in this country. Many more have died or been maimed since so we could continue to be safe and free. Our peace rests on the shoulders of other people's sacrifice.

Perhaps Amelia??? She might have "helped" him, or so he trusted. She very calculating, for good reason.

Novella lover, Amelia would have been a good choice in being the one to help Pedro escape. She was due to come back to the house as Pedro said she could bring her things back. So, maybe between the interim of having been shot by Adolfo and BEFORE the Navy arrived, Amelia got there first.

Amelia wants to bring down Pedro, so she will do what it takes. PURE speculation on my part, but you are on to something there, Novella lover.

It has been said that Graciela loves her children in her own way. After all of the machinations she did last night, someone is going to have to show me the money.

At one point, I had to walk away as I could not take Castro's voice much longer. The phony tears and act were getting on my nerves.

Kudos to Montserrat. She held her own.

I kept expecting Pedro to pop up out of nowhere sort of like Freddy Krueger. It was that expectation that had me on edge last night.

I am really wondering what the writers have in store for Graciela's anvil.

Fatima

Fatima, I was soooo tired of hearing her cry and seeing her wicked wet face hard to take.

I didnt like Fab at all, but I actually felt bad to think that Graciela will druve her to suicide. I hope that the law finds G guilty of conspiracy of transferring those funds that did not belong to Fab, but to Ale. Then again, maybe Fab is truly her mothers daughter and it is her way of bringing Graciela down with her too. What bothers me alot is the fact that Graciela says she spent hours asking God to guide her, when in fact she was practically sweating blood hashing up scheme how she could make herself look like she was sacrificing herself for her children and STILL get the money for herself. Disgusting person, Pedro is a eunich, and I recall they were often very very mean way back in history.

First of all,im not Carlos he has nothing to do with it i dont know how people confused me with him but its okay,i forgive:)

Second,no it cant be Amelia, she wouldnt step that low and she did not really mean it,the whole reason why she married him was to gather intel .And the reason why Amelia talked to Pedro few nights ago was an effort to try calming him down..And besides when the shooting was going on,Amelia was talking to Gracie and Fabiola( Unless the time flow in Aguazul is really weird and the scene happened one hour after the shooting)

Third ,how funny Fatima a few days ago i was remincing on Freddy Krueger when i was mocking Pedro! Pedro must be Peddy Krueger or something there is no way that a being like him is from this world! He is extremely evil,he must have been born from the deepest pits of hell.

Novella lover, seeing Graciela in action last night confirmed for me why I thought her all night prayer vigil was PHONY. As I've already said, the look in her eyes while she was "praying" said it all.

Demetrios, I have no idea why Freddy Krueger came to my mind last night, but he did! Pedro is going to pop up when we least expect it and someone is going to get hurt.

Fatima

Count alacran,

I think some folks are confused because you are really Demetrios but changed name are going by CountAlacran and people think you used to be Carlos.

No, Amelia would not stoop so low to "help " Pedro. I understand her motives for marrying him, to gather intel against him. I meant if it was her, it would be to continue her plan. Hehe...i even wondered for split second if it was Padre. Me thinks too much about this novela.

Yeah Fatima,im already looking forward to see Pedros rampage, how funny if he is alive ,he is now the fugitive, the same damned criminal he was accusing JL for. Finally he gets to see the pleasure of being on the run! But i guess he will manage,he is very intelligent and most likely still has some influences. When Robledo said to EZ that they will search all until the last hospital and airport on the planet in case Pedro is alive, they better bloody do so!

Yeah, I liked Fatima's analogy about Pedro popping out somewhere like Freddy Krueger, especially since they are all sitting around so relaxed like the munchkins when they were singing "ding dong The Witch is Dead." I could just see Pedro staggering around the corner with a chain saw. I thought I was the only one thinking this. Jee jee.

I mean, I was dreading this happening, don't want to sound like a maniac!

Emarie, then we are both maniacs! We were both thinking the same thing last night!

Fatima

daisy, I meant to mention how delighted you must be at your son's visit!

Wishing you and yours a wonderful weekend.

Diana

Happy 4th to all of you firecrackers . Looking forward to this recap since I was not able to see this episode.

Daisynjay, congratulations on being able to spend this holiday with your son! I'm sorry that I neglected to mention that earlier. Have a lovely day.

Fatima

Happy 4th to everyone and a big thank you to Elna June in advance of what I know will be an outstanding recap.

Judy B., I am right there with you in reference to the masterful moves of Graciela. She is a genius! It was so hard to hear her wail and bawl one more time and see her ingratiate herself to Montse and Fabiola just to get what she wants. She was so smooth as she snookered Fabiola in wanting Fabiola to "click" as her fortune was transferred to Graciela's account that you almost forgot it was all an act.

Here is hoping that Pedro is found and suffers some more before he meets his end. Sure loved the slap Montse gave to María. Maybe María can share a cell with Fabiola if anyone ever notices that she is dangerous. Of course, Fabiola may be on the road off traveling with Graciela . . . sure. At least Nadia and Victor know Pedro is on the loose and that they need to be careful with Victoria--at least we hope they are thinking that and not just opening doors to unknown visitors actually and figuratively.

Jarifa

Jarifa, you just reminded me of something I was thinking last night.

Fabiola is not going to let Graciela say "no" to this "trip". I wonder how Graciela is going to show "her love" for Fabiola on this trip? If I were Fabiola, I think I would be getting worried right about now.

Fatima

Happy 4th To You All:

The first half of the recap in up. The Second half is simmering on the grill.

Second half will be out when it is medium rare.

Enjoy!

EJ

I just realized that I am getting way ahead of things and do not want to spoil things for another elna june masterpiece.

I apologize and will hold further comment until the recap is up. I just wasn't thinking.

Fatima

Helna june, I think we were cross posting. My apology still holds. I am so sorry for talking in advance about things!

Fatima

elna...elna...elna...OY!

Fatima, just thinking about what Graciela is capable of doing in full view of everyone really gives me the creeps as to what she could do on the road to/with her dear crazy alcoholic enraptured daughter. It could be more hellish than at home! It could be a one way trip if she got in the way of any of Graciela's machinations.

Jarifa

elna june, The Prologue was BEAUTIFUL AND PERFECT!! It was perfect in every way!!!

Super writing on this first half. I was stunned when the good Admiral placed all of those conditions on EZ Basura. For once, EZ couldn't think his way out of it. He was stuck. High Five to the good Admiral!!!

elna june, I can't wait for your second half!!!

Fatima

Jarifa, we are definitely on the same page. :)

Fatima

What a fabulous title.

Elna June, Part One was masterful. The Set Up, the Marks, the Patsy, The Con - were perfect.

"Niccolo Machiavelli, rise from your dusty grave and take notes! Even you could learn from this mistress of deception", "Graciela dramatically posits—there is no way to save them both".

I will have to wait until Part Two to see exactly what happened but your "her enemies, acquaintances and, sadly, yes, her children. But this confidence scheme was breathtaking in its audacity. It was awesome, truly awesome in its ruthlessness" has me intrigued and worried. For the first time, I felt for Fabiola but will wait to comment.

Robledo has put the screws to EZ so to speak. Is this the beginning of the end for he and Carlota??

Marvelous Elna June.

"The first half of the recap iS up. The Second half is simmering on the grill."

My appetite was whetted by your excellent appetizer, looking forward to the main course.

Diana

Second half will be out when it is medium rare

Dear Elna June:

This part one is fabulous, a sparkling jewel! I knew it would be carefully crafted!

Ay, yi, yi, Gracie and her con, it was perfection I must say. Poor Monse and Fabs, I did feel very sorry for them both. They just have no idea how bad of a Mama they have. Especially Monse, she ought to know already.

So glad that kiss of JL and Maria was not mutual. It was hurlworthy I must say!

I think of Mac as a carefully controlled spigot at some points. He really did keep that secret of Fabs for so very long, and the will not as long, but he did tell Monse at a good time.

I'm surprised EZ gave up as much as he did.

I am so looking forward to your part two, Elna June.

My response to "Second half will be out when it is medium rare"
disappeared which was I expect the recap to be just as juicy and delicious as you indicated!

Diana

I was laughing at the EZ and Robledo scene ,Robledo was the fisherman,EZ was the magical fish who can grant 3 wishes. Too bad Robledo only got 1 wish out of the trick pony that is EZ ,ah well better luck next time!

Urban has said this many times: Graciela has a love of the con.

After last night, I think this is her one true love. Urban has also postulated that Graciela has money stashed overseas accounts.

I wonder how many millions Graciela will be worth once everything is said and done.

When I think of a con artist, I think of someone who can charm the socks right off of you. I could be missing it altogether, but I have never found Graciela charming...not even with Sandho was so eager to get in her bed.

She is just one smart bully.

Fatima (who is going crazy watching the footballers today!)

BTW, all, today is Angelique Boyer's 26th birthday. Sunday will be Sebastian Rulli's 38th birthday.

Feliz compleanos to our stars!

Oh and when they finally find Medina they should punish him for insulting of bees too! ( Med in Slovenian Language ,my home language means Honey!) ,what an embarassment how can a honey grow a beard? Now i know why they are getting short of numbers:)

And it would be hilarious if Fabs trip turned out to be a quick stop at a Internat ,then Gracie would leave her there ,laughing now that shes got all of Fabiolas sweet money!

Hi, All:

You now have the full recap. Enjoy.

EJ

..Ugh after seeing these avances things are beginning to looks awful, hopefully that this is not Robledos car exploding ,it might also be Fabiolas car..I dont want Robledo to die:(

Also Elna many thanks for the recap!

Dear Elna June,

Thanks so much for the funny, detailed, and wonderfully written recap. I really enjoyed reading it. I especially loved how you analyzed and described Gracie's scheme.

Hope you are having a good holiday!
Best,

Elna June, your second half was superb as well. You are such a gifted writer.

I take back any kind, forgiving thought (silent or uttered) I ever had regarding Graciela. Although I never had sympathy for Fabiola until last night, her happy, joyous face made me choke back tears. Graciela is a monster.

I am very afraid for Adolfo. I'm sure he is worried for himself but more so for Fina, Nadia and Victoria. Why didn't he empty his gun into Pedro??

Where is Pedro and who helped him?

Thank you for the excellent details Elna June. I appreciate you giving so generously of your time today.

Diana

Great work, Elna June.

Gracie really enjoyed this whole thing, didn't she? Soon both her daughters will be feeling like prize fools.

Alejandro can probably manage without the cash for a while until they trace its path, but Gracie's anvil will be huge with a lot of hot sauce on it. I've had lots of ideas about what it will be, but we can discuss that when the Karmageddon discussion goes up.

Which may be sooner than I originally planned.

Maria gets more disgusting all the time. I think she's trying now to get MDA to go after Monse and Alejandro again. I am still not understanding why Adolfo still enables her. If he has any remorse over killing Monica he should try paying that back by protecting Monserrat from Maria.

What a fun recap for an action packed episode! Many thanks! I'm so happy this thing is now feeling like it is rocketing home!

Two things: one, I'm super embarrassed to say that I did not see Graciela's plan coming together at all. She had me snowed.... anyone got a bridge they want to sell me in Brooklyn?

Second, why does everyone assume that Peddy had help? I cannot imagine one person on this TN that would have any reason whatsoever to lift a finger to help him. Plus, it's a bit scarier if he's out there on his own because there is almost no one in the story that he doesn't want dead. What am I missing? Maybe he shot high and Peddy laid low till Adolfo left? Finally, why the HECK didn't Adolfo take him out the same way he took out Monica?

Have a happy fourth!!!

My dear Elna June,

Your mention of Machiavelli reminded me of a tour I took some years ago through the Basilica of Santa Croce in Florence. I was startled to see Machiavelli's tomb in a place of honor (among those of giants such as Michelangelo and Galileo) and even more by this Latin inscription: Tanto Nomini Nullum Par Eligium (For such a name, no praise is equal.) I took the tour guide aside and tried to sound her out, as delicately as I could, on how Italians thought of Machiavelli. I got the impression that he was known and celebrated for his brilliance. Being called "Machiavellian" would hardly be an insult. I suspect that Graciela herself would be gratified by being mentioned in the same breath as her paisano, Niccolo.

What a delightful recap, EJ. I loved your the way you set out "The Sting" for us in all its glory. Thank you for this firecracker of a Fourth of July write-up.

Diana,

"I am very afraid for Adolfo."

Really? I think we need to have a talk... :)

Superb recap, Elna June, and I'm glad you gave the Magnificent Graciela Con the pride of place because it was a beaut.

As you pointed out, Fabiola ends up thinking the scheme is entirely hers. And doesn't wonder why Graciela is conveniently carrying around her bank account number with her.

I also enjoyed watching Graciela working Montserrat by calling "mi niño de oro". Good way to soften her up before setting in the first stepping stone of the scheme.

Masterful in every way. The woman's talents are wasted. She needs to be going for total world domination.

No, I'm not heartless. The Telenovela Gods will not let Graciela get away with this. But it was great theater, and the recap was great writing. Thank you, our wise Elna June.

And yes, little Laurito's froggie green glasses were most unfortunate.

I don't understand the con for Monseratt. Gracie changed her life and gave her back Alex. That's a good thing for Monse. If she takes the money, Monse still wins because that was the deal with Alex. Fabs was conned, but I don't see a big down side for Monse.

Monse's problems will come from J.L., Gracie will not effect her life after this.

Ahem, Elna June...you forgot to use Poor Blind Nadia's full moniker.

Well, the visiting son is off to catch up with a few friends. Thanks everyone for the well-wishes on the visit. Had a fun lunch out he treated us all to and watching he and his twin doing their usual bickering, albeit with big smiles on their faces, had me and my son's girlfriend in stitches. Like old times. Since he doesn't get much in home cooked meals since he travels with work, I got some special requests for lunch and dinner with a "please???" and big hug, so sap that I am, I'll be cooking up a storm tomorrow, and loving every minute.

So had some time now to myself to catch your fantastic recap EJ! What a gem. Your 'Sting" method truly gave all the horrid machinations of Graceless the right background. What an insipid woman. So might the Tasteless One and her Bad Hair Daughter really fly the coop together, or will she take a powder all alone. I can't see how she can stick around now. Lord, can you see Graceless in Paris? The poor French.

Daisynjay

Oh, if she gets there I can easily imagine the French raking her over the coals for her sorry wardrobe and her inability to speak French.

As soon as Gracie flies the coop someone will figure out where the money went. The judge should call Interpol because he still suspects her of not disclosing the entire truth of the original fraud.

And there is the matter of Sandro. By now somebody should know that he never made it to Miami.

Daisynjay...Is there anything sweeter than one of our grown kids asking for some home-cooked goodies?! Of course we go right to the stove and start slaving. Music to a mother's ears. Enjoy.

stop with the spoilers please

elna june, I've read this a second time. The whole build up with the con was a masterpiece. I was on the edge of my seat a SECOND time! Scott Joplin's sweet notes were also in my head. :)) I think this one is your super best, yet!!

NovelaMaven, VERY interesting, VERY interesting. :)

Hello everyone! What an episode last night! I was just left in awe of Graciela. I haven't had time to read the recap and comments, will do so shortly, but I wanted to wish everyone a Happy 4th of July. Enjoy your day and keep safe.

Recap is delightful, as they all are all of the time. Daisyjay, I feel your joy in cooking for your son and family. I know you whipping up something so scrumptious......Laurito wearing hreen froggie glasses??? Yikes, I hadnt noticed, gotta see that. They clearly are making him out to be the cutest little nerd ever.

NovellaMaven, I googled Nicolo Machavelli, and I thank you for sharing about your Florence trip. That phrase clearly made an impression on you, as now it did to me too. You call Graciella an italian paisano. Did you mean that literally us Graciela supposed to be of italian descent in the novela, I wondered because Fab's has italian sounding last name "guillen". Although in Mexico they use mothers last name, in Fabs case, they wouldnt have known to use Gracies last name since she was stolen from her.

Speaking for my own self, I do not marvel at Graciela's intelligence and con work, but see it as the eptiome of evil at work.

Speculation, not spoiler: It won't take long before someone realizes that the money is gone. Monserrat will be more furious at the deception rather than the actual loss of the money, but it will give Alejandro good cause to bring charges against both Fabiola and Gracie.

I wonder how long Gracie will actually be away because Pedro is still looking to collect some favor from her over sending The Cleaner to the crime scene. She no longer has the wig, sunglasses, dress, and pistol. She now would have to consider the possibility that Fabiola will still try to accuse Monse of killing Sandro.

On the other hand, does she really care about that except for the gossip?

Great recap, Elna June. You did such a nifty job of dissecting Gabriela's brilliant con. I'm afraid I'm right there with you, Rebecca. It wasn't until Fabiola came up with the inspiration to transfer all her funds into Gabriela's accounts that I thought... hey, wait just a minute... I think I see what's going on here.

Madelaine, I too was disgusted by that kiss, although I'm guessing, for a quite different reason.

I'm looking forward to EZ coming clean to Carlota... that should be very interesting. I'm a bit annoyed at Robleda's smug self-righteousness... he certainly is no paragon of virtue. And as for him getting together with Carlota, I'm doubting that he will be nearly as attentive and as much fun as EZ. Maybe she should check with the ex-Mrs. Robleda.

Carlos

Novella Lover,

I joked that Machiavelli was a "paisano" or countryman of Gracie's because we have been given to understand that her family is of Italian descent. Certainly her family name (Giacinti) is Italian.

Fabiola Guillén probably bears the surname of Anastasia Almonte's husband. I don't know anything about the name "Guillén" -- I guess I just assumed it was Spanish.

I hope that makes some sense. :)

I just hope that the driverless Tundra was in no way involved in Pedro's escape.

Maybe because of his blood scent he got captured by one of the fangbangers from True Blood and now is in Bontemps Louisiana waiting to be eaten.

Great recap EJ, good presentation of the anatomy of a con. It's hard for me to feel sorry for Fab, this really is the perfect Karmageddon for someone who apparently has been doing this sort of thing with Sandro for awhile, was she not?

Machiavelli on steroids, that's what Gracie is.

Hey, Oxnard, what do you think those fangbangers will think when they realize they caught a capon?

Gracie will get hers I'm sure. In the mean time Ale better get that will back to the judge before Pedro shoes up and steals it again. Not a spoiler, but that will has changed hands already several times.

Hello again, just finished your marvelous recap Elna June. What a terrific skill you have for writing. Congrats!

Rebecca and Carlos, don't worry, you are not alone. I totally bought into Graciela's bs. For a moment I thought, could she really be heading toward some sort of redemption? At the precise moment she admitted to conveniently having her bank info with her, (something I never carry with me) it hit me like a load of bricks.

This woman is truly a great manipulator. I felt so sorry for Fabiola. She indeed looked so happy. I wonder if she and Gracie will take off somewhere or if she will be left with empty hands. Also, Montse seemed to be having some pity for her last night, as her mom recounted all of her suffering. I wonder what Alejandro's reaction will be when he finds out that Fabs is his sister.

Well, I'm off to light fireworks with the kiddos, looking forward to tonight's episode and the recap and comments that will follow.

Urban Anthropologist:

"Hey, Oxnard, what do you think those fangbangers will think when they realize they caught a capon?

A capon is good eating. The vamps might be disappointed with the lack of an appetizer, so to speak.

Elna June, thanks for that excellent retelling of an interesting episode. I could "see" it with my mind's eye even though I did not actually see the show.

Gracie is a heartless wonder. When she breathes her last breath will her ill gotten gains comfort her ? I think not. She is a Disney villain for sure.

Oxnard...Your reference to Undead Ped in the Tundra gave me a giggle.

Dear Elna June:

Thank you for this most marvelous part II of your recap.

Ohh, the Admiral wants EZ to give up being Mayor of Aguazul? EZ sure didn't like that.

I'm glad Ale got the original will back.

I agree with Susanlynn, all the money in the world will not comfort Gracie in the end. I hope Gracie goes to prison in the end for all the fraud and mayhem she has caused. May her anvil be huge!

Thanks again Elna June for this masterful retelling of this episode.

Elna June,

Sorry I am so late to comment. I hope you get this message. I wasn't able to read your recap until late. I unfortunately had to work on Friday, so it was a regular work day for me. Anyhoo, I wanted to thank you for the splendid recap. It was a true pleasure to read.
