Mi Corazón es Tuyo Lunes 7/21/14 Gran Estreno

Gran Estreno: How Do You Solve a Problem Like a Nanny?

Saturday Night Fever
¡Qué rico!
Ecatepec: After seeing amazing vistas across Mexico we dropped in on a block party in this neighborhood with people dancing in the streets to a great Marc Anthony song. Their friends prepared hearty food for consumption, other people were eating, and everyone seemed happy and carefree.

Ana's House: Ana Leal lovingly polished a guitar which had once belonged to her mother. She kissed it before returning it to its case and hanging it on the wall. Ana is a beautiful woman who is past her early 20s with wavy reddish hair. [But why the hell is she wearing Hooker Pink? Is that a condition that actresses who play heroines have to put up with all the time?] Jennifer, her roommate and best friend, arrived. She was in a good mood and wanting to dance and party. She looked in the mirror and grinned. As they got ready they talked about how now the house was theirs and they were besties, like sisters. A knock on the door and Johnny arrived. He was wearing a colorful shirt, no t-shirt under it, a pendant to emphasize his pecs, and he started dancing in anticipation of the party outside. He's Ana's boyfriend.
Clashing wardrobe =  clashing values?
He admired her dress, teased her, and gave her a plastic pitcher decorated with a ribbon. [What does he do for a living, anyway? Is he the Tony Manero of this neighborhood?] She commented that it's practical and gave him his gift [Is it some anniversary or other?], which outshined his many times over. It was a sweater that he swore he'd wear to bed and think of her heat [Do dudes really talk like this?]. He put it on right away and looked around. He commented on how nice her place looked and she asked him if he would fulfill the next part of her dream with her. She wanted to start having kids.

He didn't, and his expression made that obvious.

To distract her he went on about how long they've been together and how many kids does she want. Seven. Ay, dios mio! She wants to multiply like rabbits! He so didn't want to talk about this so he suggested they go out to the party and dance.

The Sound of Music

Huixquilucan; Lascurain Mansion: In what looked like a nursery filled with stuffed animals and too many other toys are the seven children Ana will eventually get, the children of our Captain Von Trapp, hereafter to be called Fernando Lascurain.

Nando, the oldest son, tried to study while Estefania (hereafter to be called Fanny; don't ask) led their younger siblings in hazing the new candidate for the nanny spot in this house. She was the perfect picture of a spoiled rich girl in her absurdly pink party dress. Lest any observer think her a total female dog, she did sincerely tell their youngest sister, Luz, that she wished she would start talking again.

These kids were constantly using the # word, so were they tweeting their mischief? They must have been because they've also posting photos of their efforts on Facebook. The middle girl, Alicia, said their latest photo got 100,000 “Likes.” Yikes.

If this is what nannies are supposed to dress like they need a union rep.
The kids eavesdropped on Señorita Rojas, who was out in the hall talking on her cell, then Fanny told them to take their positions. Señorita Rojas told someone that the kids will respect her authority. That chance is fatter than a prize heifer at a county fair. She entered the nursery, cackling like a Disney witch. Very deliberately she ended on “Hello. What are you up to?”

Fanny stepped forward with a dancer's precision and tossed a can of Mountain Dew Neon-colored paint. It landed right on target and she and the other kids laughed. Fanny must be an expert because she didn't get a drop of that radioactive-looking stuff on her own dress. Señorita Rojas began screaming, the kids laughed. Fanny took a photo of the poor woman; even Nando laughed at all this.

Block Party: Ana took the mike and thanked all the others for coming. She announced that her home will be open to everyone there. [Be careful what you ask for!] Johnny then suggested they all dance. The sound of lightning interrupted this for a moment, but they decided to ignore it. The party continued with everyone dancing cumbia.

Animal House

Lascurain Mansion: Bruno, the major domo, addressed the children about their behavior. He tried to guilt-trip them by telling them how disappointed their mother would be if she knew. We see from her portrait that their mother was beautiful and serene.

Their dad came down the stairs apologising to the departing nanny. He tried to tell her that his kids are “just a little mischievous, but they're good kids.”

It's obvious that you don't know your children well,” Señorita Rojas told him. He asked what he should pay her and she told him “All your money couldn't make me stay five minutes more. What these children need is something money can't buy. You need to spend more time with your children and less with your precious corporation.”
Captain von Trapp is not amused.

My children aren't wild animals, Señorita Rojas,” he said.

I very much doubt that,” she said in return. She then told Bruno to open the door. “Until never, beasts!” were her parting words.

The kids made snarky gestures behind their dad's back as she left. Another one bites the dust. However, when Fernando turned around they saw he wasn't fooled. He let them know they will be having a nanny whether they like it or not. They were all being punished for the moment. Furthermore, he also seemed to know that Fanny was the ringleader. He ordered Bruno to supervise the children; Bruno saluted him.

The Posiedon Adventure

Ecatepec, Street: Torrential rain fell as most of the town tried getting home from work. A radio announcer talked about flooded streets. Two women on the bus started singing “La Cucaracha” while Ana and Jennifer talked on their way to work.
Jennifer suddenly remembered leaving a window open at home. Ana tried to convince both of them that nothing bad will happen.

The bus suddenly stopped near the tunnel entrance. Everyone looked out the windows. The bus moved a few more feet into the tunnel as some cars passed it. The tunnel was flooded! The passengers began to panic and the driver opened the doors so some could leave. They walked out of the tunnel and the driver tried to continue.
Soon the water was above the wheels and several cars were seen almost submerged in water. The passengers were getting out to be met by emergency workers.
Jennifer started to panic. When she got near the door she argued with Ana, who tried to get her out. She fell into the water.

Ana repeatedly called her name and looked around. Finally she dove into the water, swam, and resurfaced [I do hope the actors got combat pay for this.]
On the third try she spotted what looked like Jennifer being sucked into a drainage hole. She resurfaced, shouted again, then dove back down. She saw Jennifer going into a drain, swam over, and pulled her out.
She pulled her to the surface, shouted for help, and the emergency workers came to their aid. They placed Jennifer on a gurney, pressed on her chest and she spat out some water. Ana hugged her, babbling her relief through her tears.

The Trouble With Angels
Fanny has a future in advertising.
Lascurain Mansion: The storm continued outside. In the nursery, Fanny addressed the other kids. She revealed a photo gallery of all the nannies they have scared off. The younger kids applauded and made jokes. Nando seemed to be getting tired of it all. He asked why they're doing this. Fanny said that this whole idea is antiquated as in “#Last Century”. Nando reminded the others that their dad ha\d wanted the best instruction for them since their mother died. Alicia wouldn't accept anyone other than their mother. The twins (Guille and Alex), Sebastian, and Luz all agreed. Nando told them that acting immature isn't going to help, then he left to go to bed.

Showgirls

The Chicago Club: Three dancers played their own version of Spin the Bottle, which involved the penalty of kissing their boss. Don Doroteo (who looked like something out of a 70s nightmare) was peevish that his top dancer was late to work.
He slammed his fists on his desk just as Ana and Jennifer arrived still wrapped in the blankets provided by the emergency crew. He yelled at them for being late and refused to listen to the explanation. He grabbed Ana by the hair during his tirade, finally reminding her that the show was in ten minutes. They exited as fast as they could.

Lascurain Mansion: Fernando tucked his children into bed, finally finding Luz sitting on the floor with one of her plush toys. He sat down next to her. “I miss her, too,” he said, speaking of his late wife. “But she is always with us.” He kissed her head and sat with her in his arms. Her silence was as painful as their loss.

The Towering Inferno

Ecatepec Street: Several hours later the rain stopped. Ana and Jennifer walked back to their house happy to see the end of an unpleasant night's work. As they got closer they paused at the sight of a fire truck, then ran inside. An officer prevented them getting closer. The firemen were spraying the burning building.
Ana freaked out at losing what she worked so hard for.

Emergency Shelter: Ana, Jennifer, and their neighbors stayed in the shelter. Food, blankets, and beds were provided.
Ana crouched on a bunk bed thinking about listening to her mother playing the guitar and singing. Of herself polishing the guitar the day before. She had been praying to God daily to be able to find her.

Family Affair

Cemetery, Columbarium: Fernando and his children visited the niche where his wife's ashes were kept. He spoke to her, saying that they miss her every day, and asking her to watch over the children from Heaven. “I feel alone, lost without you,” he said quietly. He began to cry. His father arrived just as his cell phone rang.

It's the office, Dad. Excuse me.” He walked away to take the call.

Nicolas placed a flower on the niche wall; his wife's ashes were also inside. He said, not loud enough for the children to hear “Son, when are you going to learn that life isn't just about work?”

Ecatepec, Street: Ana and Jennifer came out of their house. Ana carried the guitar case. Both were upset at the damage to the house. Ana opened the case to discover that the guitar was unharmed. She was relieved. “It's the only thing I have of my mother,” she said, as she cried with some relief.

We'll get over this,” Jennifer said.

We'll fix it,” said Ana.

Faust

The Chicago Club: Ana tried to borrow money from her boss, but he wasn't crazy about this.

This isn't a bank, Ana. Your idiot boyfriend doesn't bring in much.”

This is different. We've lost everything. I'm not asking for more than an advance.”

OK, I'll lend you the money in exchange for you signing a contract.”

If you want, I'll sign, too,” said Jennifer.

You don't matter; waitresses are a dime a dozen. Ana is the star of Chicago.”

Jennifer whispered to her “You're making a deal with the devil.”

What else can we do, sister?” Ana whispered back.

You will work here for a year and you will be paid twice a month. Less expenses. Is that OK?”
A villain who will probably do pratfalls

No, but where do I sign?”

[Did this really happen on the night of a full moon?]

The Nanny

Lascurain Mansion, Study: Fernando stirred his coffee while discussing his problem with Bruno, who has battle scars from dealing with his boss's brood.

It's urgent we find another governess, Bruno.”

Bruno counted on his fingers. “With the latest one, it's been ten, Don Fernando.”

Ten?”

Yes.”

Where in the world am I going to find a nanny who can control my little angels?” he asked, as he sat at the desk.

Flashdance

The Chicago Club: The audience clapped in rhythm in anticipation of Ana's entrance. When she thought they had waited long enough she entered in absurdly high platform boots and stripped off her jacket before grabbing the pole and doing her thing.

As we watch her gyrate we hear Fernando's voice telling Bruno “We need a woman who is conservative, educated, expert with small children, who speaks English and French. Someone with a good image who's incapable of hurting my little angels.”
¡Qué labios rojos tiene!

The Little Princess

Lascurain Mansion, Study: Fernando told Bruno that this needed to be resolved quickly so his children wouldn't suffer. Bruno gave him an “Aye, aye, Sir” as Luz came into the room. Fernando picked her up and hugged her.

I'm sure soon little Luz will start talking again,” Bruno said. “Patience is an argumentative tree that produces sweet fruit.”

It's my biggest wish, Bruno,” said Fernando. “I think of it every second, love,” he said to the child. “You know it's my biggest desire to hear you call me 'Papa.'” Luz began kissing him. “'Papa, I love you. Papa, tell me a story. Ay!” He kissed the child and hugged her.

American Gigolo

The Chicago Club, Outside: Their night's work done, Ana and Jennifer left this den of iniquity. At least the tips were good. Ana speculated that the damage could be paid for a little sooner than she thought. She decided they should go to Johnny's place. They wondered why he hadn't been at the club all evening; that was odd. They arrived only to find out that he was a cheat as well as a cheapskate.
Another woman in Hooker Pink was coming out of his front door, praising his sexual prowess. As soon as she saw Ana she bolted in her wedgies.

Johnny came out, wearing Ana's gift over his bare chest. She slapped him hard and told him off harder. He cowered a little at her anger and tried to make flimsy excuses, but Ana was no fool. She called him a cad and walked away.
Jennifer caught up to her and finally Ana let loose with her pain and sense of betrayal. Jennifer told her to let loose. .Johnny heard this from his doorway and followed. Ana didn't want to deal with him.
He tried making the excuse that Don Doroteo told him to interview this chick, but Ana wasn't buying what he was trying to sell. He begged forgiveness on his knees and kept insisting that he loved her, but Ana was furious.

Working Girl

Lascurain Mansion, Study: Fernando looked at a resume on his computer screen, but it wasn't from a nanny. It was from a woman applying for a position in his company. He was satisfied with her professional qualifications. Not to mention she was also beautiful.

Johnny's Place: Ana used Johnny as something of a beast of burden because he carried some of their things inside. She told him she and Jennifer would sleep in his room and he would be sleeping on the couch. He didn't deserve better after this stab in the back. When Jennifer went into the bedroom Ana let him have it. She reminded him he knew what she wanted out of life. She wanted to find her mother and to have a family of her own. However, he went on about how much responsibility that would bring when he had a business to run.
He couldn't provide what she needed. She said she wasn't looking for that; she is capable of working. She wanted someone who would be faithful to her. “I'm not a kid anymore; I don't have all the time in the world,” she said.

That he retreated into the Dr Who phone booth said it all. She took the guitar into the bedroom, leaving him to think about it.

9 to 5

La Costena Office: Isabel Vasquez de Castro sauntered into the reception area completely sure of herself. The receptionist greeted her and told her to have a seat while she waited. She declined the offer of something to drink as the receptionist called Fernando.
As Isabel touched up her lip gloss she ran over Fernando's resume... his personal one. “Widowed a year ago, father of seven children. Conservative. Strict, obsessed with work. Doesn't drink or smoke... “
At that realization she took her cigarettes out of her bag and hid the pack in the seat cushions.

The receptionist received an IM on her screen that Fernando was ready to see Isabel. She graciously welcomed her to the company and told her she could go in. Isabel thanked her and told her she had beautiful eyes.

She sashayed into Fernando's office where he was talking on his cell phone. He had his back to the door as he talked about the urgency of finding the right nanny for his children. He wanted results and no excuses. He ended the call and turned around.
He seemed to like what he saw as he introduced himself as the head of international markets.

Addendum

Ran across the story of the real Von Trapp family here. The Captain was not quite what the sappy musical said he was.

Adrian Uribe is one of the best contestants on Televisa dance competition shows.  Here he dances with Livia Brito.  I'd have added other clips but most of the ones I found didn't have great video quality.

Does anyone else think Ana should have given Esmeralda a few lessons?

Excellent, Urban! I can't believe you're pulling double duty tonight, AND you managed to add all those screen shots.

SN really did her work in learning the pole. I thought she would just be doing stuff upright on the lower half of the pole. Impressive enough to me. But when she was doing the upside down stuff, high up on the pole, I was astonished. No wonder she looks so muscular and sinewy.

They really released a Biblical plague on Ana tonight-- flood, fire, destruction, heartbreak, betrayal, and a deal with the devil. After this, those wild bunch of children should be a breeze.

Thanks so much UA, for that excellent start for this new novela.

Wow, Sylvia is quite athletic....great upper body strength to hang upside down on that pole. She puts Maria AND Esme to shame.

The guy playing bad Johnny is the host of the Sunday night Bailando show.

I think the actress in the villain role (who is usually the good girl leading lady'h will make a formidable villain.

Just to let everyone know that I won't be doing this many screen shots from now on. I had a problem earlier today that made my computer run like a sloth which made loading those pics take much longer than usual. Also, I cut back on the number of shots for LQLVMR, but from now on I will try to limit it to one or two per scene.

It's just that a few things about this episode made this many necessary, esp since it's a Gran Estreno.

All I can say is that you are amazing, Urban; simply amazing!

Fatima

Senorita rojas actually the director of this novela :)

Urban,
I'm a bit of a stranger on the Univision side of Caray Caray, as I usually watch Telemundo shows. Thanks so much for your detailed and witty recap! I watch with Spanish subtitles and sometimes don't get it all. Your screenshots were a-maz-ing!

This was a great introduction to our new TN adventure. SN's pole dancing is spectacular and way more impressive than Esme's attempts. I'm sure Ana will use her gift for music to melt the heart of the youngest grieving child.

I'm liking a lot of this novela, but I'm still not sure of it yet. Of course, Sylvia was great, as always, and I like the stripper twist on the Sound of Music. I saw a Hasta el fin del Mundo ad during the break. While I'm glad Univision is finally starting to commit to upcoming/already running novelas, I was hoping for El Color de la Pasion or Quiero Amarte instead. Marjorie de Sousa and Pedro Fernandez both don't do anything for me.

Cassandra G.

I would think Fanny is a nickname for EsteFANia. Isn't she and Nando a little too old to need a nanny?

If that was really Silvia Navarro working that pole and not a stunt double, I'm impressed.

Fanny must've called up Nickelodeon and ordered some green slime for the nanny.

The first minute I saw her peep-toes I knew Isabela was trouble.

Great start for the show, Urban! Thank you for getting the ball rolling.

SN truly was on the pole, she took lessons for many weeks before filming started. And she was pretty good, actually.

I think the set up has been good so far, but I'm not sold on the comedy part, yet, maybe because I've never considered Televisa to be particularly good at comedy.
But the original Spanish version of this show had some decent funny moments (I remember watching with my mom when I was about Fanny's age and laughing out loud), so hopefully we'll get some of that, too.
I'm having a hard time seeing Rene Casados in such a role, but the rest of the cast seems to be pretty well chosen.

I may have a few problems with this one because of certain elements of Televisa comedy such as slang. Not that I think there will be that much compared to UFCS.

Unlike Fernando Colunga, Jorge Salinas has done comedy without getting uncomfortable with it. Colunga is two years older than he is, so he should have cut his teeth on something like this, but he doesn't seem to take to it. It also looks like this is the first time that JS is playing the father of teens, which has to be a milestone for him.

BTW, his birthday is this Sunday. He will be 46, which is still not being in one's dotage.

On to other issues...

I agree that Nando and Fanny don't need a governess. In some ways they are both like typical firstborns: He's intellectually precocious and she's a natural leader. However, it would not be right for them to take on too much responsibility for their younger sibs.

These kids will also definitely balk at the idea of a stepmother despite Fernando's typical hands-off parenting. I hate that men were able to get away with that for so much of history.

I wonder if Nicolas lives with them.

Rene Casados has never been afraid of broad comedy. He will be amusing to watch.

Fabulous UA! Great start to our new TN.

So happy to have Silvia gracing my TV screen. Something about how she approaches her characters is so enjoyable to watch. Ana is definitely a bit different from recent roles, but I got a kick out her last night. Thank goodness for recappers though, I always am amazed at how fast she can talk when she really gets into things.

But gees, talk about having a real bad day. Like living through a day of biblical plagues; floods, fire, a cheating jerk. Of course, she has to make a deal with a devil so we can have our intrigue through the story.

But man, I can see why he wants her locked to a contract. UA, you thought exactly the same as I did last night. As soon as she started that routine I thought "Now THAT'S Pole dancing"--not that anemic version Esme and Maria try to call what they do.(Sorry non-Robo watchers, but it's a bone of contention for his Robo patriots). And that is Sylvia doing the dancing...I read she really learned the moves and worked at it. I was greatly impressed.

As for the kids, somewhat predictable and making each one a bit of a stereotype is sort of clichéd, but I'll hold judgement until the story unfolds. Heck, most comedies tend to bring in the clichés, but if done ok, can deal with them. I agree, the two oldest don't need a nanny, but in general, the younger ones do, so they get lumped into the mix. I don't think Fanny will be "evil", more a rebellious teen, maybe bordering on a mean girl...nothing that some love and attention can't fix. Or I'm guessing the love of a gorgeous young man. And little Luz, a total heartbreaker. I think watching Jorge hugging his kids is something I can get into.

Rene--always a win!

UA, did you label the recap? it doesn't show in the MCET blog list.

I did, but this site has been behaving oddly since yesterday. It wasn't updating the number of comments as quickly as usual.

and now that I read the recap... awesome recap UA!
loved every line but here is my fav:
'she slapped him hard and talked him even harder...'
Vivi, I thought the same about poor Ana's fate that day/night. Biblical plague is right!
SN did show her hard work on the pole. Add me to those impressed by her dedication.
Little Luz seemed to have lost her speech when her mom died... that is why her dad is so sad and praying she will someday again call him Papa and ask him to read a story to her.
So at least three people whispered or told Fernando in his face that he needed to re-visit his priorities (work vs family).

UA, one little thing... when the bus entered the tunnel, the cars passing by were going in reverse, they were getting away from the flooded bottom of the tunnel... but the passengers that did not exit the bus were urging the driver to give it a try...
Also, seems Jennifer does not know how to swim, that is why Ana was yelling at her to hold on to her as they were exiting the bus and that is also why Ana was so panicky when Jennifer went underwater.
Poor Ana... not only the Biblical plague, but she said two things that will come back to bite her... one did already (she said her house was open for everyone) little did she know the water was going to cause a major fire (maybe aided by a lightning strike?) and also told Johnny that she wanted seven kids... and Fernando has seven kids already!
and yes, JS has the same birthday as me, July 27. i will be a little older than him though.

I have a feeling Rene's role in this one is the catalyst to the relation Ana/Fernando and also Ana's partner in crime to get her 'paybacks' to the kids until the kids stop trying to get her fired.
I am still holding hopes high for Rene's role here... esp when Isabel moves in and tries to harm Ana.

I have a good friend whose birthday is also that date. It's a milestone for her and her husband called me the other day for help on that.

There definitely was a lightning strike that Ana wouldn't have seen in the bus.

I forgot to comment on this earlier but not only am I impressed with Silvia's ability on the pole, it's combined with those dominatrix boots! Don't mess with this chick!

UA, you were indeed on fire last night with these two excellent recaps. The screen shots and summary was great.

"But why the hell is she wearing Hooker Pink? Is that a condition that actresses who play heroines have to put up with all the time?]", "a pendant to emphasize his pecs" and "Her silence was as painful as their loss" were among my favorites.

"Biblical plague" was spot on Vivi. A multitude of heartbreak.

And Rene is always a sight for sore eyes, right daisy?

I'm with Cassandra in that I liked what I saw last night, but I'm not too sure about the comedy aspect. Haven't really liked any of Televisa's comedies (I'm not including Gancho in that which I loved).

Just a side note, I actually went on a family vacation to VT to the Trapp Family lodge and met Maria von Trapp (I belive I was around 10 so it must have been 1965). I remember her strong handshake and kind eyes but not much else.

Welcome J!

UA, fabulous.

Diana

Yes, welcome to the patio, J!

I agree that the nanny is really for the 5 younger kids, but their father probably thinks the other two could use a parental/maternal figure in the house too, since he's always working.

Does anyone know what the lullaby was that Ana's mom was singing to her in the flashback? I thought it was really beautiful and that the singer had a lovely voice. I wonder who will end up being Ana's mom, and did she abandon her little daughter?

I agree, Vivi, that the lullaby was absolutely beautiful... I too would like to know what song was that.
and I also agree that her mother will make an appearance... wonder who will play her.

Paulna Goto was in Miss XV. A Nickelodeon Latina America production. Maybe that's where the idea for the green slime came from?

Adrian Uribe, 'Johny' was Latin Lover's closest competition in the first season of Bailando por un Sueno... Latin won in the end, and Adrian and his partner came in a close second. That is why they had a mini competition (Latin and Adrian with their original partners from the first season) a few weeks ago. Adrian is a great dancer, just as Latin Lover is... They were also in a special season (where the competitors were the first, second and third place couples from the first few seasons, and the results were the same. Latin 1st and Adrian 2nd.)

The first episode was all right. Hope the telenovela turns out to be a great one. Saw the Hasta el fin del mundo ad I might watch that one when it premieres.

'm not sure about this one. Biblical plagues, bratty children, business obsessed father, a pole dancing heroine (although I must say she did a great job), sleazy sure to be villain. Like some of the cast so will see how it shapes up for the next week or so.

Do we have any indication that Fernando was always obssd with his business or is it just since his wife died?

Oh, no! Not that obnoxious Osorio kid again! If he starts with the inappropriate smarminess like in PEAM, I'm out of here, Silvia and Jorge notwithstanding. Osorio has a knack for making his comedies truly irritating, particularly when he uses his kid.

I think it's safe to say that Ana's main problems have already been set up, so no need for further massive mishaps for a while (other than the kids). We now have a reason for her to be in desperate need for more money and a new job, and also a new love and better life prospects in general.

Urban- I meant to say nice job working in the reference to Labios Rojos-- SN and JS's movie together. :)

Oh, you know that the second she meets Fernando Johnny will be history.

I suspect somewhere down the road there will be a catfight between Ana and Isabel.

Isabel is slick. She's the kind of villainess who will make everyone think she's a good person. Complimenting the secretary on her beautiful eyes was very good. Being aloof or catty with her would have been a bad move, but so often these villainesses do just that.

Urban, thanks for yet another great recap today. Yes, Esmeralda could have learned a lot. María, too! What a world of difference.

A few thoughts:

I had to suspend a lot of belief with a professional bus driver driving through standing water into a tunnel in a storm.

Then we have the gangster looking owner of "Chicago" with his gangster looking posse. Will the Capone connection ever die?

I loved the Fernando voiceover talking about what he wants in a nanny as Ana danced.

No "Avon " this time; Fernando works for "La Costeña".

Looks like Johnny is on his way out so Ana will be free for all sorts of new entanglements.

All in all, it looks like this could be a cute one. Will have to hit and miss until LQLVMR ends.

Jarifa

Since Silvia and Jorge did Labios Rojos together I thought this one was a good risk. I normally don't like comedy novelas; I've bailed on all the others before this except PESE.

What is bothering me now is what will replace LQLVMR? Please, not another comedy.

There was a promo last night for Hasta el fin del Mundo. It will replace LQLVMR.

Thanks UA. Great start to this new show. Love the pictures but if it slows down your computer, leave them out. Surely we are all watching too.

If this show is to mimic The Sound of Music, then Liesel, the oldest, was 16. Remember the song 'I am 16 going on 17...' The oldest boy was Fredrik and was I think, 14. And Liesel thought she was too old for a nanny too. So Maria just became friends with them. I encourage everyone who hasn't seen that musical to watch it. It's really entertaining.

Also mimicing the show was the father becoming a workaholic after the mother died. It was too painful for him to be home without her there, so he wasn't there that much.

Thank you, UA! The Gran Estreno is always a tough episode to recap, since everyone and every place is new, but you did a fantastic job! And with so many great pictures and captions, too! What excellent writing to get us all set up and understanding what was going on.

The part that was most confusing to me, watching it, was *WHY IN THE HECK DID THE BUS DRIVER PLUNGE RIGHT INTO A FLOODED TUNNEL?!?!* It isn't like they couldn't tell there were problems. Other cars were trying to back up, and they were stuck there and looking at other cars and the deep water before they kept going. It wasn't like they were the only vehicle on the road and driving fast and didn't see the flood until it was too late. What was the button that the bus driver kept pushing?

The kids seem entertaining other than He Who Must Not Be Named, Smarmbag of Infinite Dimension from PEAM.

From his own father commenting 'when will you learn that family comes before work?' i get the impression that Fernando has always put work ahead, but it is a huge difference when the wife is all about her kids and all of a sudden she is gone... the 'sense of loss/emptiness' in the kids is several times more than if the dad was also a regular presence in the family. They have not really gone too deep into that but from the way the kids don't want a replacement for their mother and the comments that his own dad has made my guess is he has been a workaholic all along.
But now that the wife is gone, he might have even increased his distance by thinking keeping busy with work will make the loss hurt less...

Marta- I agree with your take on things. It certainly seemed, from what Fernando's dad said, that this has been a problem a long time. But it would have been balanced out better by a wife who was very present and involved with the kids, which they now don't have.

I'm glad that he is so loving with them when he's around, at least the youngest one. Those were very sweet scenes between him and Luz. I loved the second scene best when she was smiling, than the first when she was crying silently. Did he ever think of taking the kids to a child psychologist?

Leisl, er, I mean Fanny (do we really have to call her Fanny?), must really feel strongly that no one must step into the void in ANY way. Or maybe she's hoping that if they don't get a nanny, then dad will have to spend more time at home? Normally you'd think a socialite-seeming teen girl like her would be eager for someone else to watch the little ones so she could do her own thing.

Fanny might be dealing with her grief by sticking close to home and close to her siblings. Ana coming into their lives might help Fanny let go of the "mothering" role and go out and have a more normal teen life.

Well, it will be interesting to see how this new show "The Sound of Poledancing" develops. "The Sound of Music" was a favorite of my late mother-In-law, so it always makes me think of that sweet lady.

Silvia is amazing. As far as I know the only surgery she has had is to enlarge her buttocks. Other than that, she is a natural beauty. Esme and Maria do not even compare body wise to Silvia! Silvia is much thinner and more toned, any man's dream really! I was highly impressed with her skills on the pole. I am sure all of the men watching the novela were enjoying the view as well.

I am thinking this will be a great novela. I also love who they chose as the "bad girl".

I am glad the Father is considering a nanny as it is not up to the older siblings to take on the role of a parent. I am excited for tonight's episode.

Thank you for the recap
-Kat

Incredible UA...you've always done dramas, but you're so good at comedy and the light touch. I love seeing this new side of you.

. [But why the hell is she wearing Hooker Pink? Is that a condition that actresses who play heroines have to put up with all the time?]

You started with that and the smart azz comments just kept rolling. I love the new UA! We've had the Edith Wharton, and the "roman noir" and now the smart and sassy UA appears. Who knew? Enjoyed it greatly. Thanks.

Have yet to watch this but read about Silvia's diligent practice at pole dancing and am preparing to be Very Impressed.

10 things I hate about this Telenovela

1 The whole idea and Osorio behind it. This is copy of ANA AND THE SEVEN, from Spain, which idea we all know came from The sound of music
2 Osorio's kid
3 Carmelita Salinas
4 Ugly queen and king (Morayra and Buenfil, both from PEAM)
5 Nacaranda, Nacasia and Vítor
6 Osorio's idea of what comedy is
7 The obnoxious kids
8 Did I mention 0sorio's kid?
9 La Costeña product placement (I am sure from now on all his Telenovelas will have place in real busine$$es- caching!)
10 The way René Casados talk

Pablo- I guess we can't expect you to come back then?

I agree with you on Osorio's kid. Only saw him in PEAM and didn't need to see him again. But so far they've kept his smarm to a minimum. Too many other kids to compete with. :)

Jajaja!
I am a masochist!
I love to hate this TN because I saw Ana and the 7 and want to compare.
I know is like ripe pears and rotten apples, but imagine that ''Ana'' is not all that, so I am sure the pool is probably drying out and now you have too look beyond other TN to make your copies from.. Anyways, get ready to see Osorio's kid in everything he produces from now on.

Having a Dad that produces TN: Pricele$$!!

Although this TN overlaps with SULEIMAN (Mundofox) I will try to watch as much as I can, so feel free to tell your people to contact my people! LOL!

The first one Ana should work on is Fernando himself. now that his wife is gone he NEEDS TO STEP UP and be a real parent to them. THe second 'kid' that Ana would have to work on turning around is Fanny. she has to change from leading the crusade to get any nanny out the door to becoming the supporting big sister (remember the older girl in 18 kids and counting, now 19 kids...)
... but still it is Fernando's ultimate responsibility to provide the parenting, not hers. So I hope Ana fills in the mom's shoes as much as she can... and the kids can go back to be kids...

The third kid that Ana should work on is The Smarmy Nepotism Plant...by "accidentally" "losing" him at the park or something and never getting him back. Then they can adopt that little cutie Meli Amors from UFCS to replace him, or maybe little Valentina from PEAM, who could use an abuse-free role to recover from the horror of that one.

The hypertext link to this particular blog as listed in the left side salmon-colored column doesn't work. Can someone correct it? It took me a while to figure out how to access the blog for MCET.

NOTE TO BLOGGERS: It looks like tags in Blogger are case sensitive. Since the link in the sidebar is for "MCET" in all caps, tags need to be all caps.

I tried to add the tag to the post, but I'm getting an error message.

Ah, so THAT'S the problem. Urban will need to re-tag it in caps then.

I thought I could do it with my editing powers, but apparently I am not *that* powerful.

Did I miss something? Who is the kid that we all dislike so much and why?

Amazing, UA, 2 super, fully illustrated recaps from the same evening... utterly amazing. You must feel like you sat through a production of the Ring Cycle without taking a break. Well done.

I generally love comedies but I have major reservations about this. Kids are fun for me but those we were presented with last night were alternatively overly precious then unbearably unruly and desperately in need of a strong hand, or perhaps seven well-fitted cute little straight jackets.

Also, I saw Labios Rojos and while it had a few cute moments (especially Silvia with the lusty witch doctor), I didn't really detect much chemistry between the two main characters. I hope that it is better here.

I join the rest of you in your disappointment at seeing that posing preening prissy little boy from PEAM showing up in this. Too bad he wasn't the one cast as the speechless child.

Well, I was underwhelmed with the first few episodes of Gancho so I'll give this effort a fair chance.

Carlos

Eli, the boy who is not the oldest nerd and not the little twins played a completely insufferable preteen Don Juan/Casanova who smarmily romanced *the **SEVEN**-year-old daughter* of the leading man in Porque el Amor Manda. He is the son of the producer. Some of us feel he does not get these roles based on any possession of charm or acting talent. ;)

Julia, for realz?!

What's worse is that there were multiple scenes of him "performing" his "musical" stylings. And poor little Valentina was forced to swoon over all this, like he was such a dreamboat. At seven, mind you. Seven. And her father (played by Fernando Colunga) was forced to take him seriously as a romantic suitor of his daughter, and get all Protective Dad and whatnot.

UrbanA: Loved this snarkfilled recap. You're getting us off to a snarkaliciously great start, and doing two for the same night! Ugh! But thanks! Musch appreciated. --I got to say that "Hooker pink" remark grabbed me and got the snickering started. It didn't stop for me, either.

As for SN I could see the muscles in her arms and she has definitely been doing some weight training in there. Her jawline shows it too.

Couldn't believe how clueless Fernando was re: his "angelitos"--and he must have referred to those brats ten or fifteen times that way! Think I'm gonna take a swig of something everytime Daddy Fer calls them that.

--As for Fannie--she definitely rates a kick in hers for that paint stunt! (As does DadiFer for essentially letting her get away with it.)

Awesome job Urban. And doing double duty. I liked what I saw last night. Not a huge fan of JS, but love SN, so I will keep watching.

Man Ana could sure teach a few things to Esme and BM from LQLVMR. I commend SN for all the hard work she has put in.

Again, thanks UA, great start.

Back to work...hasta pronto!

Seriously! What kind of father has no stern words or punishment for his children after they throw paint on someone? I'm surprised he didn't take them to Disneyland to try to smooth things over with them after that stunt, he was so soft on crime! But that would have required time off work, of course.

I saw the first episode. The two scenes that stuck out were the flooded tunnel scene and the pole dancing scene. Not exact typical scenes for the first episode of a telenovela.

Ana 20ish? I don’t see that. She does not look 20anything. She looks more like early 30s which makes sense given her remark about her getting too old for her profession. Still, she is one of my favorite TN actresses. I saw her first in Cuando Me Enamoro. She has a specific style that is appealing. I was not impressed by the pole dancing scene because I automatically figured it was a stunt double, but what did impress me is how the “double’s” hair so closely resembled Ana’s own hair.

For some reason Hollywood, Mexico and others can spend thousands (and thousands) of dollars on the visual effects but when it comes to stunt doubles the hair always looks a bit off. After reading others’ comments I see that it indeed was her. Now I am impressed, not only by her ability on the pole but even more of her willingness to go beyond the acting by doing her own dance routines. We’ll be lucky if we get to see one or two more of them.

The kids were too ho-hum for me. Each personality trait seems to have been taken from a recipe book. I’ve seen this plot one too many times. Overboard with Goldie Hawn comes to mind, Are We There Yet also (even if the gender role is reversed). Still, all the elements are there for a compelling story. I tend to enjoy this type of story so even if the main story has been done before I would still watch this story.

I would normally pass on something like this but it has Jorge Salinas and Silvia, so I can't say "no"!

Julia-ewww that's so disturbing!

Salvador, that really was Silvia Navaro. She took lessons to learn the craft and apparently lost some weight and got very toned in the process. Let this be a lesson to us all for an optional form of exercise.

Eli, it's nice to see you again. It's been a long dry spring and summer.

Cathyx! Hi! It's nice to see you too, god are you as happy as I am to never ever, ever have to think of CI again?!

PS:I may or may not have looked up pole dancing classes last night.

I hold out hope that the kids will get more interesting. In the first episode, almost everyone is painted with a very broad brush so that we get the gist of the characters without much nuance, and it's often hammed up a bit, either because the actors are new to the roles and are still a little rough, or to beat us over the head with the character descriptions. Often once they settle in a bit and more stuff is happening, the characters get more interesting and less annoying. Unless, of course, the actor/character is the producer or director's idea of An Adorable Precocious Child, in which case they become increasingly irritating with every moment they appear on screen.

Oh Eli, don't remind me. I'm just lately getting over the pain of that one. I have high hopes for this TN. let's hope it delivers.

Sorry, that was such a traumatic experience!

Eli, it will go down in TN history as one of the worst, and we will have to honor of saying we recapped it, lol.

Hello Urban, I just got caught up with the show and your excellent recap. Once again, I am in awe that you recapped two shows for us last night. I usually just watch one show at a time due to time constraints, but since LQLVMR is coming to an end, I thought I would give this one a try to replace it.

It barely, started so I can't say it's reeled me in 100% yet. I usually don't watch the comedies, they tend to get too goofy for me, but we'll see how this one goes.

So far my favorite was the food at the beginning of the show and you even got us a screen cap. My mouth was watering just looking at it all!

Also, along with my fellow LQLVMR bloggers, I have to agree that Esme and Maria need a few pointers from Ana. Kudos to Silvia for learning those moves!

Cathyx, we should get badges that say "I survived CI", and maybe start a support group?

Thanks, UA for a great job. I finally caught the first episode and had some of the same reservations as others but love the two stars and can never get over the way that both of them command every scene they are in. here's hoping.

I agree, Carlos, that there was no great chemistry between SN and JS in Labios Rojos, but it did show that these two can do comedy.

I do want to disagree just a little bit with you, UA, about Fernando Colunga. He has done comedy (Ladron Que Roba a Ladron) and been credible and funny. His comedic abilities depend, I think, on direction and script. He was certainly very awkward in the comedy he did with Blanca Soto. .

I found information regarding the lullaby that Ana's mother sang to her:

And the song on YouTube:

CathyX, although I am not against any form of exercise, I have to limit myself to those that don't involve remodeling the house ;-)

Diana, Marta: thanks for the welcome to the patio. I'm not crazy about the "brat pack" yet, but am sure they will grow on me, and I'll overlook them in order to watch JS. Over on Telemundo they were debuting a show with Eugenio Siller, whom I cannot, cannot watch, not no more, no way.
J in Oregon

I can't believe SN's pole dancing! Is that really her?

Urban,

What a great recap. I've never seen a comedy TN but this is one I think I'll stick with because I love Jorge Salinas and Silvia Navarro. The first episode has me hooked so far.

Thanks for doing double duty!

Esme and Maria should be ashamed of themselves for calling themselves "pole dancers". SN is it!!!!! What a body she sculpted for this novela.
