Que pobres tan ricos Tuesday: as anvils fall, the tarantulas gloat

I was delighted that Dona Mati's entrance was at the very end of last night's episode - I've had all day to look forward to her bringing the anvils. I had no subtitles so if you find this vague, fill it in!

Refritos: the fresas hate Tizoc's microbus song. and his manager threatens to kill him. I agree with them that he is an imbecil. Listening at home, Chuy reminds Carm that success is easy come easy go and he doesn't think Tizoc is managing very well.

So! At the editorial, Mati is welcomed into the room and embraced by los Ruizpalacios. "Quiet everybody. I am completely recovered and the doctor is here to confirm it. So we are not naming a new president just now." Mike sort of sticks out his tongue at Alejo, "so there."

From now on, Mati says, she is back in charge. AS gives her an unwanted hug (for saving them from more porca miseria). Alejo says he's glad she's well, "but you are so advanced in age..." He is shouted down. The old dudes are happy.

(For now, Minerva is happy Alejo is going down even though, as her mother reminds her crossly, his downfall will affect them and they'll have to be very attentive of their interests.)

Mati continues: "We'll have time soon to resolve all doubts. But right now, leave me alone with my family." She promises Lupita a chat soon and hugs her. The old dudes leave the room.

The whole family talks at once. Mike wants Alejo arrested for kidnapping. Mati tells them: I escaped Alejo and luckily met people who helped me to get better. One of whom was The Son of Sumatra! All RP are delighted!

(Carm tells Chuy: Mati is back. Chuy immediately says, now we can forget that terrible clause and Alejo will leave my daughter alone. He doesn't know the marriage is fait accompli.)

Mati reveals she was at Tomas's house, she apologizes for staying out of sight. Now, "I'm going to put things back in order." "But a woman of your age has to rest." "Nobody is going to treat me that way. I'm going to think very hard before I decide what will happen next." She asks to be left alone with Alejo. "I'll be watching you," Mike says in warning to Alejo.

(Lupita fills Carmelita in on the amazing meeting. "Mati was so beautiful and strong, I was so happy to see her like that." "Now you can ask for an annulment.")

In an oily attempt to pretend all is well, Alejo says, "Your doctor has worked a miracle." "The first step was leaving YOUR treatment. You tried to make me crazy. And you abandoned me." Alejo rises but Mike threatens from beyond the office window. "I would have died if I hadn't been helped by good people." "You are confused." "Hah. The only reason I haven't told everyone what you did is that after all, you are still my grandson. I'm giving you another chance because I believe there's something good way down deep in you." "All I want..." "I don't care what you want. I care about what you do, and you should start by ending the marriage you forced on Lupita."

"My only thought was for the welfare of my son." "Tell that one to your granny [heh] because I don't believe a word. If you don't reform I'll tell everything you did, and I remember it all." "These memories are your delirium speaking, I could NEVER..." "Alejo, I don't have the patience I used to, so be very careful because I'm going to be watching you. Now scram."

She tells Mike "Alejo is very intelligent, but I have the situation under control."

Alejo curses his grandmother in the privacy of his office. In comes Minerva to gloat, mother close behind. He utters the classic: "If I fall you fall with me." "Control yourself, Satan." They leave.

Later Mati is at the RP estate saying she is independent and will get her own place. Mike says they have plenty of room and want her with them, enthusiastic agreement from Leo and Frida but Ana Sofia, not so much. "Oh all right, she can stay, it's my good deed of the day. I'll tell the servants to prepare a room."

Emi tells his mom he looks so happy "Because you married my dad and I'll get great presents." She feels him out about about his feelings for his dad and points out: "None of us are perfect, we all make mistakes." "Not my dad, he's perfect."

Leo's ma tells him: "I almost lost everything. We have to protect ourselves. Your gran is not immortal. I've taken steps to make sure this doesn't happen to us ever again."

Mati visits Chuy and tells him: "I left myself a note about the missing documents, it said look in the office." After some confusion Chuy realizes Aureliano meant the living room right there! Where he and Aureliano would booze it up a bit. Chuy takes down a Madonna from the mantle piece and inside it are the papers.

Business is brisk at Guendy's because all the old bats want to gossip about her nuptials. A mysterious woman comes in (is she a blast from the past or somebody who will soon be important?) to get some treatment but seeing how swamped Wendy is, she offers to help. She does somebody a fine manicure, Wendy offers her a job, Mystery Woman demurs saying she has other work and this is not her forte.

Mike and Saul wonder why the Menchaca house is supposedly worth so much.

Lupita comes in all happy to see Mati. "I know Alejo practically forced you into marriage. You can get an anulment." "First I need to work things out with my son."

Alejo is morosely cursing alone in his office, muttering that he can't eat or sleep. The phone rings a bunch. He does not pick up for Lupita but he seems eager to talk to Emiliano, who worries that his dad sounds sick or something." "I'm not sick, I'm sad. But I'm happy cause I'll see you! I'll pick you up at school." Emi mentions the marriage again, Alejo says: "Be patient. Champion, you are the only consolation in my life."

Top cop says he can't do anything to Alejo. Frida is mad at her yukky classmates for whaling on that poor nerd of yesterday.

Minerva tells Alejo he has to come through as he promised. He says, since he's not president he doesn't have dough for them to steal. "Ambitious tarantulas, I can't do anything, so leave me alone or you'll be sorry."

At school, Lupe has come for Emiliano but he runs all the way around her and throws himself into Alejo's arms. There is a huge present for him, he runs off to see it and Lupita says: "Keep your word and leave my kid alone. We can end this comedy and be divorced." "No, you're my wife and I want you."

Tomorrow: more threats from Alejo, the war goes on. Mati chooses MA to be new president.

Jane, what a great recap! Thanks.

It was so good seeing doña Mati finally put Alejo in his place. We have waited so long for it.

It was very funny hearing Minerva describe Isela's ambition (has no limits, it scares her) using the same terms as Isela earlier describing Minerva's lust earlier in the novela (has no limits, it scares her). Those two were hilarious scurrying in and out of Alejo's office.

I wonder what AS could be up to to financially protect her immediate family.

I liked Frida bringing up how illogical her old boyfriend was wanting to march against animal cruelty but at the same time treating his fellow classmate so cruelly. Of course he had to remind her that that is how she used to be, too.

Poor Emiliano wanting to be just like his dad.

Can't wait to see what Mati does next!

Jarifa

I believe that what AS is referring to about financially protecting her family is her despicable crime of forgery. She forged MA's signature on a power of attorney so that SHE can have access to the family's finances along with MA.

Sure could be, anonymous.

Jane:

Thank you so much for this awesome recap.

I too am so happy to see Dona Mati at the El Editorial offices and the lovable Zombies were so happy to see her. I am so glad also she is taking over. That look on Ahole's face was priceless and I liked what Dona Mati said about Ahole, she said he thinks he is Napoleon, but he seemed to forget about Napoleon and Waterloo! I'm glad she told Lupe she can get an annulment from Ahole. I can't see why Ahole is insisting no divorce or annulment. I am glad Dona Mati told him to let Lupe go. I had to laugh at Ahole's destroyed office after that meeting.

I am glad Dona Mati and Don Chuy found those papers. I hope they never have to worry about their home again. I hope now Dona Mati talks to Emi to see how entitled he has become, just like his Daddy, hopefully she puts a flea in his ear. To make him straighten up.

I had to laugh when Ahole didn't take that call from Vilma. She is gonna get tired of him not taking her calls. I am hoping she tells all about him. That would be wonderful.

I too think that thingy AS was telling Leo about was about her forgery. I hope MA finds out about that soon. She also needs to pay the Menchaca back for all that money she stole from them.

What worries me, is how many times Mati said, "We'll have plenty of time to talk about that later," or something to that effect. While one anvil is dropping, another is being forged. It sure sounds like something will happen soon, that prevents her from all those things she intends to say.

BTW, has it been mentioned here, that "Tizoc" was the was the name of a famous Aztec ruler?

Paula H.

Paula!!! welcome! are u the same Paula who used to psychoanalyze all the BLF characters with me?
anyway, glad to see you here, even if you are not.
ok...
yes A-hole got three phone calls straight, he would not take Vilma's, then he would not take Lupe's and he had to take Emi's to keep brainwashing Emi into supporting him thru and thru.
I have a feeling even though many folks tell Lupe that she can just get an annulment, she knows A-hole has a strong weapon in Emi... and he showed it last night.
Yes, loved when MA and Mati ended up alone in conf room and he told her that A-hole was right in that she was a bit older and should be thinking of resting... but she told him she still had to straighten up things, that she was so glad she had learned so much from Aureliano (business management skills) and put them in practice when Aureliano died, and would do it once again now. THen she told him dont worry about A-hole. HE believes he is all that, but even Napoleon had his Waterloo (made his mistakes).
I agree that her saying to everyone to be patient is throwing an anvil at her... i really hope she will live to see MA and Lupe married... but now i have my doubts...
What Top Cop told MA was that since Mati won't directly blame A-hole for her kidnapping (remember, she is giving A-hole time to reivindicate himself and prove what she said, that he DOES have some traits of gentleman still in him) he can't do anything against A-hole.

i have to admit that at first i was annoyed that she had not unmasked A-hole in front of MA and everyone about her kidnapping, but then i understood that A-hole IS her grandson and even though this could come back to bite her, she is giving him a chance to turn himself around.
I wonder if when Emi overhears any conversation of A-holes' he will turn around on him and A-hole will 'miss' him even against his own will... would he miss Emi?

Yes, that woman appearing at Gwendy's salon all of a sudden is interesting. Would she be related to why the $1Million value of the Fonda property?
By the way, the only ones that have all the information on the $1Million are MA and Saul (maybe AS and Leo/Frida)... None of the Menchacas know about the real value of the property. They know about the documents (that there iws a fideicomiso) but i don't remember Chuy or Lupe ever hearing from MA or anyone that it was worth THAT much.

Thanks for this snappy and informative recap Jane, well done.

Sorry I didn't get around to commenting on any of the recaps for Monday's shows... busy day. Thanks for another great recap Marta.

Wow, how great to see Mati not only out of the PJs and robe all beautiful and feisty, but marching right in and taking charge. I wish of course that she had revealed Alejo's crimes and mistreatment of her. Paula, it didn't even occur to me that there might be an anvil hovering nearby. I was just thinking that chickens are finally coming home to roost.

Speaking of chickens coming home to roost, could the new lady who showed up at Güendy's be the long lost Mrs. Nepo? Yikes! She looks beautiful. And where have we heard that "Of course my horse." before that Güendy said and chuckled about?

MA was very funny as he kept a restless eye on Alejo through that window as Mati dealt with him and Leo was a treat throughout last night's show.

Carlos

When I saw Cecilia Gabriela show up at the salon when they were talking about Güendy's engagement, I figured she must be DA's mom.

The scene with Emi and Ahole on the phone was great because that was Ahole being genuine. MT did a great job of showing that Ahole wasn't simply manipulating Emi, but he really did feel all those things he said about how Emi was his only support. It's possible by the end of this novela he might fess up, especially in light of Mati saying that she believes very deep down there's some good.

Tato told Frida that she is in a mood like a single mother, basically. Heh.

Chuy brought up the money Ahole paid and seriously, are they just going to forget that MA should have paid that to Ahole to get the Menchacas off the hook? And that AS was never outed for stealing it and not MA?

Mrs Nepo, DA's mom! yeah that could be it!

Thanks, Jane! Great recap!

Yes, I immediately thought Mrs. Nepo when Ceclia G. showed up. Last seen on Caray Caray in Mentir Para Vivir and Llena de Amor-- her look here is more dowdy, but you can still tell she's a beautiful woman. The writers also made a point of not having anyone mention Gwendy's fiance by name after the mystery lady entered.

I was not happy that Mati didn't rat out Alejo. Yeah, I get he's her grandson, but he also tried to kill her! He doesn't deserve another chance. This just gives him another chance to harm her, the family, the Menchacas, and the company.

May have missed it but never heard mention of Ahole's parents. Nor AS's late husband for that matter.

Rob

It looks like things are getting bad again tonight. I'm so happy I got the "good" night for once.

Thanks, Jane! Yes, you finally got a good night. A great night!

Mystery Woman said she needed a haircut, but her hair was already perfect (I am jealous). And her curiosity about the local gossip seemed more than casual. And she didn't get a chance to explain why she was in the neighborhood because the gossips wanted to gossip more.

So we don't know why she's there, but she seems to be on a mission. If she's Diego's mom, that fits. And we have a bunch of unattached males and not enough women to go around, so her arrival is well-timed no matter who she is.

As for wanting Gwendy to cut her perfect hair, that's harmless because most people who go into that salon go out looking exactly the same anyway. (Not counting Saul's pink bangs or the gel she put in Diego's hair.)

I am curious too about Ahole's resolve to stay married to Lupe. Maybe he wants to maintain a legal relationship with Lupe just to spite MA (and maybe use her as a weapon against MA).

Hi Paula!!

I thought Mati was saying "plenty of time to talk about that later" mostly when she was waiting for Chuy to leave so that she could speak privately to Lupita. But if she said that at other times too, then yeah, I agree we're being primed for something awful and I don't like it. :-(

(As it is, she was going to wait "a few more days" before coming out of hiding, too, and came out sooner only because Carmelita warned her of the crisis underway.)

Marta, I thought MA told Lupe (and maybe Chuy) about the million dollar bonus. No?

Rob, AS has spoken of her husband before, but not much. He cheated on her, but she loved him anyway.

And one time while drunk, I think when they were in Acapulco but maybe later, AS yelled "you kids have no idea what love is!" which suggests something complicated and poignant about that relationship - like maybe the fact that her rich husband was willing to marry her even though she was the illegitimate daughter of a traveling salesman and not some super-rich family.

As for Ahole's parents:

Once, early on, Mati told MA that she and her husband had wanted the grandsons (MA and Ahole) to make something of themselves, and I THINK she added that they didn't want them the grandsons to be disappointments like their fathers were. But I can't swear to that last bit.

IF she said that, then it's the only mention of Ahole's father ever that I can recall. And I cannot recall any mention of his mother.

Hi Julie! Hi Marta!

Yes, in nearly every meeting, Mati told someone that she'd talk about some important matter later. It was like her refrain.

What about the "other clause" of Adriano's will? Was that ever brought to light? Or were they in the act of giving Aleho the presidency without fulfilling that mystery requirement?
Paula H

Great minds ladies I also immediately thought that the mystery lady was Nepo's ex and Diego's mother. Dis she desert them or were they divorced I can't remember.I also thought she would be perfect for Saul as she seems much more likely to be his type and of course we've all been looking to fix him up with someone decent. LOL

Lupe really needs to take on Ahole over the Emilhole issue. Seems to me I remember Saul saying something to MA about how the courts are very unlikely to take child away from his mother. The fly in the ointment is the brat thinking Papa is perfect and wanting to live with him.

So insulting of both MA and Ahole to imply that because of her age Mati is past it in dealing with business issues. She sure took them down a peg or two.

Thanks Jane, it was a good episode, but I don't think tomorrow's will be that bad either. This is the beginning of the end for Alejo.

Speaking of Alejo, he wants to stay married to Lupe because that's the only chance he has of getting the ownership of the company. He's probably planning on knocking off Mati soon. After all, he's already killed one person, and it only gets easier with each successive one, or so I hear, lol.

By the way, Emi didn't say to his mom he looks so happy "Because you married my dad and I'll get great presents". He still is keeping quiet about him knowing that they married already. But I do think that Alejo is going to tell Emi in front of Lupe that they got married soon. That will pressure her to stay that way when Emi starts acting even more bratty when she tries to tell him she's ending it.

The mystery woman is definitely Diego's mom. Just in time for them to wed. I'll bet that she's not divorced from Nepo yet either.

Paula H:

It's good to see you back!

As far as Ahole fulfilling Aurlieno's will, that clause required him to marry and have a male heir, he has fulfilled it now by marrying Lupe and acknowledging Emi and giving him his name. Unless there is another part of the Grandfather clause he haven't heard about. Maybe this is what Dona Mati is going to do this evening.

Madelaine, it also said in the clause, upon the death of my spouse, Matilde...and my grandson has a legitimate heir...

The only thing the Menchaca know about their Fonda is that the RPs own it and Don Chuy tried so hard to pay it off, the loan from Nepo that AS stole. Dona Mati did tell Don Chuy that he never had to worry about losing the Fonda. She knows about the million dollars and as far as I remember the Menchanca have no idea the true worth of the place. The Fonda is not worth that much, what I think Don Aurlieno was trying to do for his buddy Don Chuy was to leave him a little something something because he saw how hard the man worked to keep his family together and in the home. I think Don A also thought of Don C as part of the family and wanted to do something good for him. Just my theory.

Cathyx:

True, but Dona Mati isn't dead, and maybe there is a further stipulation in the will of Don A. I hope we find out tonight.

Medelaine & Cathyx, I remember back early in the series, MA and Saul went to Aureliano's lawyer's, and they swapped identities. MA, claiming to be Saul, pressured the lawyer to tell him the OTHER clause of the will, in addition to having a legitimate heir. It wasn't the "death of my spouse" part - that was death-or-incapacity, and Alejo's drugs made sure Mati was incapacitated. It was something else that the lawyer would not reveal until the heir-clause was fulfilled.

Does this ring a bell with anyone?

Paula H

Mads, I agree that the property itself might not be worth much... otherwise we would have got clues along the way, like cracks or in the foundation or something to clue us in that the place had a treasure burried or oil under, or stte.
Yes, Saul did warn MA that the law would keep Emi with Lupe UNLESS A-hole would make up evidence or round up some events that made Lupe look unfit to be a mother/guardian... like Lupe losing it at school in front of the teachers, etc. A-hole can always make up stuff, twist events in his favor, and/or buy witnesses, as Tomas told Lupe already.

Thanks, Jane! Your title gives me a hilarious visual of gloating tarantulas.

I think Guendy learned English from Tracy on El Talisman. I'm glad we have a new character, and I also think she is Diego's mother. I'm curious to find out why she abandoned her son for so long. I mean, leaving Nepo I can understand, but leaving a kid?

I don't know why MA thinks there is a reason the fonda/land is worth that much. Aureliano wasn't BUYING the property for that much money. He was just giving the million dollars to his old friend as a gift and a reward for working hard to pay for the house. But since the house was in Mati's name, shouldn't that 300,000 pesos have gone into Mati's account?

I can't stand Ahole, but he was funny when he was so determined to be melodramatic on the sofa. He is not right in the head. Perhaps Mati should lock him up in a nursing home and keep him drugged up?

Are the Ruizpalacios really supposed to be so high and mighty? Because their house is ugly, at least the front shots. It's big, but it has no style. It'a a giant barn with Palladian windows. It looks like the hard-shell version of one of those rental party tents.

Yes, Paula! But I don't think that was Aureliano's regular lawyer, who you'd think would have recognized MA. That was the lawyer at the real estate/property/developer place (remember the guy who died, and then the deaf-ish guy who replaced him) when they were investigating the status of the Menchaca house.

The real estate lawyer mentioned a clause regarding the title to the Menchaca house. This clause (above and beyond the million dollar bonus) can't be revealed until someone shows up with ALL of the necessary documents.

I suppose I should be more curious about this clause, and I assume it will be a humdinger when it's revealed; but right now there's so much other stuff going on that it doesn't seem as interesting.

Julia... i agree about the RP 'palace'. compare the same amount of space in the mansion in MCET and you see the difference. you could tell the mother (can't remember her name now) had taste, and was a great admin of the household besides being a great mother... seems AS is not getting such high grades in either.
About A-hole being locked up in nursing home and drugged... too easy. he would not suffer or have any conscience trips...

how long ago did Aureliano die? could he have found out about Emiliano being A-hole's son from Chuy or some other way and he was trying to set up a way for Emiliano to be secured financially by giving Chuy that much money?

Julie:

Yes, that is true about all the documents being accounted for. I think Dona Mati has them all now. I can't wait for this clause to be revealed finally. This should be interesting.

Marta:
I too don't think that Dona Mati would be locking Ahole up. She'd feel really guilty about it. She doesn't play his little games. I'm waiting for Vilma to rat him out. He's ignored her now for a couple of days and that will not sit well with her.

Marta:

I think Don A died just before the story started. I think that's why MA went back home to Mexico. And then all the trouble started. Makes you wonder how long Ahole had been planning this. I think Ahole assumed that MA would get married way before him and have a male heir. I think Ahole wanted to prevent that at any cost and then look what happened? Mini couldn't have a bebe, MA hadn't met Lupe. Because of what stupid Ahole did, MA met the love of his life, go figure.

I don't think Mati would ever do that to Ahole. I just want him to experience what he put her through. Perhaps some prison time will do the trick, though.

Okay, that explains my confusion - the mystery clause was about the Menchaca house, not about the corporation.
Paula H

good point, Mads! if A-hole had allowed MA to marry Mini there is no way he could have had a kid with her... ce' la vie'.

I believe MA did tell Lupita about the money clause with the house. He came clean to her about everything and it was the reason they broke up the first time.

Marta, you're right - and in fact I think Mati started to say something about it once when she started to remember, but then she was interrupted - that those documents she'd been looking for were Aureliano's way of providing for Emiliano's future. He must have known about the "relationship" between Lupe and Ahole.

Would have been nice if Aureliano had gone about this in a more straightforward way, like putting a CLAUSE in his will saying "if Lupe Menchaca bears the child of my evil grandson Alejo, then the Menchacas can keep the house when I die. In addition, I'm offering them an extra million dollars to keep my great-grandson away from Alejo for all eternity!"

My impression was that Aureliano died long enough ago that Frida barely remembers him. From the sound of it, that probably happened shortly before or after Emi was born (so that Aureliano had reason to believe that Lupita was pregnant or might be soon).

So after Aureliano died, Mati was in charge. I think the thing that triggered the reading of the clause (the one about the grandsons getting married and having kids) was Ahole getting Mati declared mentally incompetent.

It must have taken a while to get her declared, too, because didn't Mati recently say that Ahole had been drugging her for FIVE YEARS before MA and Saul freed her??

Even if it was well-intentioned, Aureliano messed up big time with all these silly clauses.

If he didn't feel that Alejo was worthy of the presidency, he should have never put him in the running. Why make the Menchacas have to go on a scavenger hunt to claim their owner's rights and inheritance? Why only MA and Alejo when he had 2 other grandkids who could be president? Why a marriage and child clause? Why a boy child? Sexist much?

I'm starting to think Aureliano was the one who should have been certified insane. How did he come up with the wacky clauses and dealios? They seem to go against his apparent aim, in most cases.

He knew Ahole was good for nothing. So why even give him a chance at running the company and taking over the entire family's fortune? Give him a mediocre middle-management job where he can't cause too much damage, and be done with it.

Likewise, if he wanted to help out his old buddy Chuy and provide for Emiliano, why a weird secret clause that depends on their happening to find some hidden papers? Why make them wait until the house was paid off? What if they had gotten into financial straits and had to sell the house, or they went bankrupt? Aureliano wouldn't have wanted to help them in that situation? Why wouldn't he have wanted to help Lupita out financially with Emiliano earlier on? He had to know she was going to struggle as a single mother, if indeed he did know about Emiliano.

And why did he not have any expectations for Leo or Frida? Frida maybe was too young to be involved in the business, but why not Leo? Even at his most vapid, I think Leo would be a better company president than Ahole. At the very least he wouldn't be stealing all the money and trying to frame the rest of the family! He would probably make better decisions about magazine content, too.

Thanks so much for the recap Jane. I hope the happy trend continues.

I wonder if Frida and/or Lupita might be the ones to end up running the editorial. Mati can do it for a few years, maybe. MA could do it, but it doesn't seem like he wants to. He was happy with having his own business, and now he's got this juice thing going. Leo would see it as a waste of his artuqui.

But Frida seems smart enough, and like a natural leader. After college and a few years working her way up, she could be good at running the business, and maybe she would see the editorial as a good way to promote some of her causes.

Lupita also has a head for business, and it would be awesome if she ended up rich and powerful and with everything Ahole wanted to use her to get for himself.

I dont' know... i know MA keeps saying he wants his own business. but if he gets full control and it is Mati's wish that he take over, I see him having a hard time turning away from it... knowing the corporate is his granddad's lifelong work and his whole family depends on it.
Lupe could certainly become his right-hand man/VP but i really don't see MA totally turning his back on his family business. He could also do the juice business too. why not? one does not take away the other... and eventually he could hand off the juice business to Nepo and DA once it gets going.

Leo might not see it as a waste of his artuki if he understood how much artukiness is involved. Maybe he couldn't run the company as such, but he could take over some creative portion of it, photography or art department, or be a travel/culture editor, or somesuch. So could Diego, maybe. (He writes a good poem, anyway.)

Leo may not have all the chops to do any kind of serious job yet, but remember how fast he learned when he started teaching the art class? A little motivation goes a long way with him.

If Frida ends up running the company, though, I want Tato to be the guy who empties the wastebaskets.

Leo would be good at one of the creative jobs, or even schmoozing with advertisers. He would just have to decide he wants to do it, and that is the problem. I don't think he finds it grandiose enough for his artistic delusions. He might eventually come back to earth, though, and decide to do something useful.

Thanks for another great recap, Jane. And what a nice discussion from all you commenters today! I had the same speculations and questions as many of you. I, too, thought the mystery woman was either a prospect for Saul or Nepo's wife. I'm remembering that Nepo told MA that she just left, so maybe there was no divorce. And how's this for a wild twist: we find out that she left Nepo because she discovered that she was gay?

Do we know that Nepo was actually married? He has never seemed to worry about needing a divorce in any of his dreams of getting married to Lupita or Guendy.

I like the idea of the new woman being both Diego's mother and a love interest for Saul. Maybe she can also have some business that involves the editorial. Or she could be Vilma's sister, say. Or all of the above.

I don't think we know that Nepo was married. And he never did get to tell the whole story, did he? This is another one of those things that someone starts to explain, and then there's an interruption.

Knowing Nepo, it could have been some huge stupidity on his part, like forbidding her to pursue a career.

And Diego also got interrupted when he was telling Leo about his mother. I hate how telenovela characters will apparently forget all about an important conversation once it's been interrupted. No one brings it up again once the distraction is gone.
