Graciela is evil, Adolfo is no better and Angelica pays us a visit Lo que la vida me robo 190 08/06/2014

The recap is fully done, sorry it took so long but I had so much to say!

Editors Note: My dear patio peeps, this is the end of a long journey, tonight is my last full recap of Robo and I wanted to take a moment to thank all of you for staying with us through this whole trip, this story has taken some very dark turns and it has not always been easy to watch-let alone recap, but the awesome community that we have built here always kept me going, sometimes I'd read a comment/recap that would make me laugh out loud, or think about something that I would normally dismiss, all of you here through your comments have made recapping an awesome experience, I often wonder if you all realize how wonderful you all are? I thank you all for the kind words you have had for me every other Wednesday and encourage those of you that are lurking to come out and join us on the patio, we don't bite, we just snark! Again, thank you all for being total super stars, I consider you all friends and am honored to have worked with this team and to have commented along with you all. The recap can be found below, enjoy!

I' am skipping the old and getting right to the new stuff.

I can't feel my legs, I can't feel my legs! Also I have no soul, or heart!

We find ourselves at the Almonte beach house where poor Dimitrio has ended up on mom duty, he is sitting on the couch in the room as she sleeps, he has a look on his face that tells us he is preoccupied and in deep thought, is he thinking about Monica and how to catch her killer? Perhaps he is thinking about Josefina and how much he once loved her or maybe he's just thinking about how sucky it is to be stuck with Graciela for the day.

Finally the snake, Graciela wakes up, she sees Dimitiro and tells him that it's lovely to wake up with him there, he is her love and her best medicine and he should visit her more often. Dimitrio does not comment on any of this and in fact looks a tad bit annoyed, instead he asks her if she would like to have breakfast, she says that she would and he gives her two options, breakfast in bed or outside in the terrace with the other members of the family (dude why do you have to torture the others with her presence? Especially that early in the morning?).

Graceless says he can chose where they will eat, she will follow him anywhere, Dim picks the terrace so that she can get some fresh air, a few seconds pass and Graciela is still in bed, she starts calling for Dimi and when he asks her what's wrong she says she can't feel her legs. I'd like to suggest that being paralyzed should be the least of her worries, she should instead be more concerned about the fact that she is an emotional vampire who is unable to love anyone other than herself, and she should also worry about the fact that both her kids are being kind to her not because she deserves it but rather because they have been made to feel guilty about not wanting to help her. All of this is of course is just my humble opinion.

Her screams are apparently heard by both Rosario and Carlota and they rush into her bedroom to see what's wrong, this was a mistake because instead of being grateful that these two wonderful women actually give a damn about her Graciela verbally attacks them. She suggests that Carly and Rosario are happy to see her incapacitated and screams for them to leave the room. {News flash to Graciela, unlike you Rosi and Carlota are decent human beings who take no joy in the suffering of others, even if the other is a royal bitch that sucks the joy out of everything and everyone she touches}. Dimi is not amused by his mothers rant and asks the women to leave, he gives Graciela what I imagine is a sedative and secretly I hope that he feeds her the whole bottle so that he puts her and the viewers out of our misery. Graceless, you can't die soon enough for my taste!

Stay away from my daughter!

In another part of town Adolfo and Victoria are chilling out playing in the pool when Victor comes out of the house, he is clearly agitated and he asks Victoria to go in the house, the child wonders of he is angry with her and he tells her he is not, but that her mother needs her help inside the house.

Once Victoria leaves Victor tears into Adolfo for not telling his sister the truth about his secret identity as El Alacran, he tells him that his admission of being the Alacran along with the things Graciela said about him have made him very uneasy, he {Victor} is very confused and he wants Adolfo to stay away from Victoria, until the matter is cleared up.

A touching moment

In Mexico City Alejandro, Montse and Jose Luis remain in the hospital with baby Romina, Jose Luis leaves the hospital room and seeks out Alejandro, he tells him that he has decided to drop his request for full custody of the child, he apologies and says he realizes he has made many mistakes but that he is ready to put behind him any bad feelings and he says that he will no longer be an obstacle between Alejandro and Montse. He only asks that he be allowed to be part of Rominas life,as she is all that he has left in the world and Alejandro tells him that that's up to Montserrat. Both men look close to tears and I realize that for all their faults they are at their very core decent men, maybe not very smart a great deal of the time but they are not evil and they don't seek to hurt others and hell that's a lot more than we can say about other characters in this story.

Josefina, you are so clueless!

We are now in Josefina's back yard, she is with Adolfo and she tells him it breaks her heart to see Dimitrio so alone, she worries that he will kill El Alacran only to find that killing him wont sooth his pain and calm his soul. She is afraid that he will turn into the same thing he is seeking to destroy, in short, she is scared he will turn into a killer with no scruples. Adolfo asks her if she was successful in convincing Dimi to stop searching for El Alacran and she tells him that she was not, then he asks if Dimi told her what EZ wrote in his final letter and she tells him she has no idea, she and Dimi did not discuss the letter.

Josefina continues by telling Adolfo that she hopes Dimitrio will retain his integrity in the face of everything that's going on. Adolfo asks her what she means and she tells him that Pedro has offered Dimi a deal-he will reveal the identity of El Alacran but in return Dimitrio must agree to help Pedro obtain revenge against Alejandro. "He can't do that!" says Adolfo "Of course not!' agrees Josefina, she has no idea that the man she loves and plans to marry is the killer that has destroyed the happiness of so many innocent people.

Part 2

Poor Blind Nadia sees the light and it burns:

Victor and PBN are in their bedroom discussing Adolfo, she thinks Vic was way too harsh on her brother and he tells her that it hurt him to ban Adolfo from seeing Victoria, but that he can't allow his child to be exposed to him. Nadia objects to this and says her brother is no criminal, he is not a monster who would kill people! Victor has no choice but to tell her the truth and he explains that he thought Adolfo had confessed the truth to her, Nadia becomes more and more upset as Victor continues to explain that Adolfo admitted to being El Alacran, he did not admit to killing Monica or Refugio but he did face up to being the sought after Alacran. Nadia can't believe it, Vic tells her they have to do something to help her brother and make him stop, then he drops another bomb shell when he tells her that he was the one that saved Medina, he did it to protect her and Victoria,he had no other choice!

Nadia tells him she needs to be alone and asks him to leave, if I were Nadia I'd hit him in the back of the head for being stupid enough to believe anything Pedro had to say, but that's just me.

Medical News:

At the Almonte beach  house Dimi, Carly and Rosi are given bad news by the doctor, Graciela's tumor has begun to impair her limbs, she will no longer be able to walk, the women and Dimi are upset about this and all I can say is that instead of feeling sad they should buy a giant clock and count down the days till the witch dies, kinda like we count down the minutes on New Years Eve, oooo I think they should get party hats and booze to celebrate the end of Graciela!

The doctor also tells them there is no reason to take her to the hospital as there is no treatment that will make her better, now I wonder if Graciela declined treatment because she's not sick? Add me to the table of those who think she's a big fat faker!

In Mexico City the doctor that is treating baby Romina tells Alejandro, Montserrat and Jose Luis that the baby will make a full recovery and that she can be discharged that same day, all three of them look relieved and Jose Luis excuses himself and goes to see his baby.

He approaches her and she greets him with a "daddy", he tells her sweetly that she will be okay and that her parents are going to take her home to look after her. He tells her not to worry, even though she is going home he will make sure to visit her and give her lots of kisses. He then tells her that all the moments of happiness he has had are due to her and that he is grateful to her for giving his life meaning. "Thank you for calling me daddy, I love you so much". *sniff, I'm not crying, nope I'm not crying*

Esmeralda has a break down

At the Escondida the working girls are given the news that Esmeralda plans to sell the bar, they will all be paid for their work but Esmeralda explains that she can't continue to go there because that's where her husband died. She apologizes to the girls and leaves, she stands outside and looks up at the establishment where she spent most of her life dancing and starts to cry. Erick arrives and asks why the lights are off, she explains that she is closing down shop and he tries to tell her that she should not do that, she should not stop dancing because it is her passion and it would be almost as bad as if he stopped writing songs.

She says Refugio never wanted her to dance for a living but that she was stubborn and continued to do it and he died while she was dancing, she is now having a total breakdown and poor Erick also breaks down in tears he tells her not to punish herself, that what happened to Refugio was not her fault but she won't hear it, "it is all my fault, I'm nothing without Refugio, nothing, please stop trying to save me, I've never needed a man to rescue me, I don't want anyone I just want to be left alone, go to Virginia, she is young and has no children, go to her and leave me alone"-Erick tries to explain what happened when Esme saw him and Virginia kiss but Esmeralda won't hear it.

This was heartbreaking to me, in Tuesdays episode we learned the importance of telling people how we feel so that we have no regrets when/if they die, I think that Esmeralda was in such a state because she regrets the things she said to Refugio, if anything we should learn that our words have power and that sometimes we need to think before we speak, 90% of the conversations Esme had with Refugio towards the end were fights and arguments, and I think she realized too late that time is short and that we are not guaranteed anything, so before saying something hurtful we need to stop and think if that's the last thing we want a loved one to hear coming out of our mouths. Sorry for going of track but I thought about this a lot last night after watching the episode.

Part 3

Jose Luis says good bye to a loyal friend

Jose Luis has also arrived in Agua Azul and the first place he goes to is Refugio's final resting place, he shows up and sees a distraught Adolfo sitting by the grave site, he asks why Adolfo is there and Adolfo says that he is here out of "culpa" or guilt, he explains that he was at the Escondida the night Refugio was shot but that he was unable to do anything to help, he tells Jose Luis that he is sorry for his loss and that he knows Refugio was like a brother to him. Jose Luis tells him that he just got back into town, his daughter was sick and that's why he was not with Refugio when he got shot, he also thanks Adolfo for saving Montserrat from Maria and Adolfo tells him that Maria is dead "another one gone, another death" says JL looking exhausted.

JL wants to know if Adolfo saw who the Alacran is and Adolfo says he did not but that JL needs to stop him and kill him, JL wants to know if that means El Alacran is in their midst and Adolfo says he is, and makes JL promise to kill him.

I don't feel badly for Adolfo, he was always a con man and now he is playing everyone around him, Dimitrio, Josefina, and his sister, he had a chance to redeem himself many episodes ago and instead he chose to sacrifice an innocent old man. I'm not saying he is incapable of feeling love but I am saying that he cares more about himself than anyone else, if he cared for others he would never have put Josefina in danger and he never would have killed Monica and Refugio, I think he feels badly not because of their deaths but because he realizes that time is running out for him.

Once Adolfo leaves JL starts to talk to Refugio's grave stone, he apologizes for not being there for him, like Refugio had been for him many times before. "I failed you my friend, what have I done to deserve this? My daughter was very sick you know and for a moment I thought I was going to lose her and instead you are the one that's gone and now she's all I have. How many more things will life take from me? I just don't want to lose anything else. I wish you a good trip my friend, have a good journey" and with that he kisses the grave stone and walks away.

Oh my heart can't take this, we joked at the start of this novela that the real love story was the one between JL and Refugio and I still think that's true. These two were there for each other through everything and Refugio for all his faults was always a loyal and kind friend, the kind you will be lucky to find. They were brothers and I'm sure that if given the chance Jose Luis would have taken that bullet for Refugio.

Almonte beach house:

Montse arrives with Alex an the baby everyone fusses over Romina and Carlota explains that things have gotten worse with Graciela. Montse and Alex walk to the office where they talk about her mothers condition, she has no idea how to deal with her mom, she's not used to seeing her sick and fragile, Alex reminds her that this is part of the illness and tries to comfort Montse, then he leaves in order to allow Dimitrio and Montse some private time.

She and Dimi embrace-my they have come a long way and she asks him how he is doing, he explains that he's not really up to talking about his feelings and that he is frustrated by the fact that he can't do anything to help his mom. Montse thanks him for being on mom duty and he says "its not like I had a choice". Montse tells him that there's something they can do for Graciela, they can forgive her so that she can go in peace. Dimi agrees and later they both visit Graciela and cuddle up in the bed with her as she cries and says that being with them is what makes her happy.

Side note: This totally annoys me, I understand that she is ill but she has done nothing, not one single thing to earn anyone's forgiveness, she has stolen from these people, verbally abused them, in some cases she was also physically abusive and she gets to be forgiven because why?

I watched  a movie a while ago in which the main characters mother was awful to him as a boy, in fact she abused him and then left him at an orphanage, the boy grows up full of anger and resentment and is told later by his wife the following: "in your heart you built yourself a house and every room in the that house is full of anger and hate and where are you? You are standing outside in the cold looking into that house, forgiving is giving hate just one little room in that house and closing the door on it"-and that's how I feel, you should be able to feel anger, I'm not saying you should let in consume you either but you should be able to allow yourself to feel anger towards someone that has hurt you and who has done nothing to show you that he/she is a better person, worth forgiving.

An Angel visits Jose Luis

JL arrives home and falls into bed, he closes his eyes and when he reopens them he sees our beloved Angelica standing in front of him:

"hello my love" he says 'I feel so lost without you, I miss you so much, I need you"
"I'm always with you" she replies 'watching over you, loving you, waiting for you"
"when you left you took a piece of me with you, I know you are the only person who has ever loved me"-says JL.
"And I continue to love you"she says
"when you left I lost any peace I was ever to have"
She then asks him if he still loves Montse and he refuses to answer, but she tells him she can see inside his heart and that it is time he admits the truth to himself, finally he says "no, no I don't love her anymore"

Friends, I grew up a Jehovah's witness and always believed that once you die there's nothing left, no heaven, no hell, just eternal rest. As many of you know a few years a go I lost my mother, and a few months ago, right before her birthday my sister and  I went out to have lunch, and she told me about this dream she had. She said that in her dream our mom was in the kitchen and my sister was sitting at the dinning room table, and that my mom said "don't worry about me, I'm fine, I'm not in pain, I'm just  waiting for you guys to get here." So last night when I heard Angelica say that she was watching over JL and was waiting for him I just cried and cried. I think I take great comfort in that idea, that perhaps once our loved ones leave us they go elsewhere and watch over us and wait for our journey to end so we can meet again.

That's all I have for you!

Eli, Muchísimas gracias,

From a person who has been primarily a Shirker Lurker, I want to thank you for all of your efforts to help viewers better understand the dialogue and for adding so much humor, intensidad, and joie de vivre in your recaps. This one has indeed been a long seige.

I don't think Gracie is faking it, but just because someone is dying doesn't necessarily mean that they will have a deathbed conversion. She is who she is; she is a prisoner of her own selfish, hateful, evil ways. I give her credit for her consistency.

Eli:

Fantastic Part I. And looking forward to your Part II. One little thing. Can you please label your recap? It's not showing up on the side bar.

I am so sick of Gaudy's caterwauling already! Poor Dimi and Carly and Rosy!

I loved the scene with JL and Ale. I am glad the hatchet is being buried. It is long overdue.

Great, Eli. Can't wait for the rest.

Graciela has to be faking it. That would be so consistent. But wouldn't it be ironic and appropriate if in faking one illness she comes down with another horrible one? Right after alienating Monse and Dimitrio for the final -- and permanent -- time?

Eli, I sure enjoyed Part 1 and will thank you in advance for a Part 2 that will be just as wonderful I am sure!

After watching the whole mess this has become, I realized that I don't really dislike any of the characters that are left except for Graciela and Pedro. They are all living or dying in their own personal hells created courtesy of Graciela and Pedro.

I still pity Adolfo for what he has become. I saw JL putting his head on Ale's shoulder in the past episode harkening back to the days where they were employer/employee but even more important: they were friends.

Then there was a real creepy moment last night when JL was dreaming of Angélica and she told him she was still waiting for him. Sure gave me goosebumps!

Quite an episode!

Jarifa

Eli, thank you for your beautiful summary. You have added so much to the heart and soul of the LQLVMR blog, we appreciate your care and attention and marvelous humor.

"I can't feel my legs, I can't feel my legs! Also I have no soul, or heart!" was wonderful! And your "I'd like to suggest that being paralyzed should be the least of her worries, she should instead be more concerned about the fact that she is an emotional vampire who is unable to love anyone other than herself, and she should also worry about the fact that both her kids are being kind to her not because she deserves it but rather because they have been made to feel guilty about not wanting to help her" was perfect. Indeed!

Like you Madelaine and Jarifa, I found the JL and Ale scene very touching. I think I am in the minority but think Guzman's acting has been superior here. I really felt his pain last night. Finally, some clarity and peace. At long last.

While Victor's frustration at knowing Adolfo's true identity is understandable, he knows full well Adolfo loves Victoria and would never harm her. I say that realizing I am still trying to excuse Adolfo and should be ashamed of myself. It's those darn eyelashes...

Adolfo must come to the foregone conclusion he cannot kill everyone who knows who he is, especially as Victor has now opened Nadia's eyes. So to speak.

I will wait to comment more on the most welcome visit of Angelique until your Part 2 is up.

Thank you again Eli!

Diana

Eli,

I SO love your sense of humor!! Another dark episode, but you have us laughing. Looking forward to part the second.

Urban you said: " But wouldn't it be ironic and appropriate if in faking one illness she comes down with another horrible one? Right after alienating Monse and Dimitrio for the final -- and permanent -- time?"

And those were EXACTLY my thoughts the ENTIRE time during that scene!

Diana, I agree that Guzman did an excellent job last night. In fact, it was the first time in a long time that I felt he had good acting skills. Obviously, he had to deal with what the writers have produced, but I saw him as an actor and as a believable character last night.

I am just now finishing up all the hugely wonderful comments from late in the day yesterday.

Nanette, "Now, Voyager" is absolutely one of my FAVE films! I have seen it so many times and it never disappoints.

gringo, your kind words yesterday at the end of the day boosted me again after a long day in the trenches. Unbelievably, you have nailed many of the issues with which we are dealing with in my group. We are all worn out. Cruel and personal attacks can drain a person and that is how I have felt for the past two days, but I'm certainly not down for the count, just temporarily woozy and coming back strong. The support I have received here has helped me more than any of you could possibly know.

Looking forward to the second part, Eli!

Fatima

Eli, thank you for this most excellent recap (part 1) and for deciding to be a recapper. The recapping team has truly benefited by your presence.

I love your mini-rant on Graciela. So funny!

UA said: "wouldn't it be ironic and appropriate if in faking one illness she comes down with another horrible one?" I couldn't agree more! That would be divine justice.

Diana, I also think Guzman's acting has been superb. I'll bet there are quite a few more patio peeps who agree with you too. In his scene with Angelica his exhaustion and world-weariness were palpable.

Susanlynn, I am so very sorry to hear that your classes were preempted by another instructor. I have no doubt that you will have another opportunity to teach. Dedicated teachers like you are one in a million. They can't afford to lose you. Of that, I am sure.

Fatima

Eli, terrific Part 1. Your "emotional vampire" line about Graciela is pure gold.

After doing a marathon session for two days to catch up with nearly the last two weeks, it's a pleasure to be back again and able to watch in real time with all of you. Big thanks to our recappers. You kept turning out gem after gem no matter what. I am truly amazed at the abundance of your talent and hard work.

I read all the comments too and I'm moved by the insight and wit I've found here.

Yay! I'm a JL fan so last night was like a gran final for me because I finally got what I wanted most: JL realizing that Angelica was the love of his life and leaving that obsessive mess with Monse behind. But the writers have been cruel, so now I'm afraid this may be his last hurrah.

I feel so bad for Esme, and Erik's effort at comfort actually makes her feel worse. Guitar Boy, she needs time alone right now, not to get back up on the pole. Plus, unlike your music playing, her shelf life as a pole dancer is very. Esme is still young and attractive but she would've soon aged out of pole dancing anyway, so it is so sad that she wasted time fighting with Refugio over that. Maybe Angelica will "visit" Esme too to comfort her.

Adolfo hasn't changed a bit. Still a spoiled brat thinking he can get away with anything. If he had an ounce of courage, he'd break up with Fina and let her be.

JL and Refugio's brotherhood was always more palpable to me than Ale and Victor's friendship. So sad that JL was not there to help Refugio.

Finally, all cylinders are firing in Ale's brain. Hope we get the pleasure of seeing him, hopefully with JL along, outsmart Pedro.

On fashion, at the hospital, I believe that was the first time we've seen Monse wearing jeans. It makes sense that in her rush to reach Romina that Monse would just grab a pair of jeans and rush out. Since so much of this is in the outer limits of common sense, I thought I'd take the time to compliment the wardrobe department on this realism. But we didn't see Monse's shoes in this scene.

Oops. "Meant to say "her shelf life as a pole dancer is very limited."

Niece:

Welcome back! We have missed you. Yes, the writers have been cruel to poor JL. I too hope Ale and JL and Dimi combine their forces for good and kick the snot out of Peddy. Peddy's anvil is long overdue!

Eli, you have been an absolute treasure as a recapper through this show, which has been one of the more complicated, trying, but have to say well-acted and intriguing shows to watch. This recap exemplifies you at your best. I can't wait for Part II.

First, as much as I loved the Angie sighting, that was just too eery for me. Writers, are you telegraphing again? Why is she waiting for him...that scene was beautifully acted yes, but made me very uncomfortable.

My heart is starting to break for Fina. When she discovers the truth, all I can hope is that even if there is no romantic future for her and Dim, they are there for each other as support. She has been there for so many people and asked for nothing. Someone is going to need to be there for her and BIG time.

And I have officially dragged my chair to the Gaudy is faking it table. I didn't think I would say it, but last night was the clincher for me. If that wasn't a ploy to get her son's sympathy and make him come under her spell again, I don't know what was. Something about that last look on her face with both children made me wonder. I still don't think Dim is still totally buying what she is selling though. Where's that anvil???

Daisynjay

What a lovely opening paragraph Eli. Very gracious, generous and classy. I also loved this analysis:

" Both men look close to tears and I realize that for all their faults they are at their very core decent men, maybe not very smart a great deal of the time but they are not evil and they don't seek to hurt others and hell that's a lot more than we can say about other characters in this story."

Well said. I agree completely.

Hulu Plus does not have this up yet, so I'm waiting impatiently for Part II. But not to worry! Naps come first. In fact I find if I sit down after lunch, I'm in danger of dozing off myself.

Diana..." I say that realizing I am still trying to excuse Adolfo and should be ashamed of myself. It's those darn eyelashes..."

You cracked me up with that comment. YES. Eyelashes can sometimes cloud our judgment. I understand completely.

Thanks Eli. I will echo Carlos' comment once again...for a short gal, you sure write tall! And you are deeply appreciated.

Hello,

First I want to thank not only Eli, but all the recappers. I've started back at work this week and it's been difficult to find time to comment but I have indeed been reading! That said, Eli, the recap so far is spot on and funny! Many, MANY thanks for all you do for this awesome community.

As I finally got to read the comments of yesterday, I wanted to add a word about forgiveness. I've been thinking at this from the perspective of a zen story I know. There are two monks and they see a rich woman being carried in a rickshaw by two men that are not only carrying the rickshaw but many packages that she has purchased. They come to a large puddle and can't figure out a way to cross without getting her or the packages wet. She is Graciela-ing them (berating them, screaming at them, etc.) as the monks are passing. The elder monk stops, puts her on his back, carries her across the puddle and puts her down, and then continues with the younger monk on their way. Several hours later, the younger monk is still fuming. "Why did you do that? She was awful and rude and even after you carried her across, she didn't even thank you." The Older monk says "I put her down hours ago. Why are you still carrying her?" This is how I think of the need for Montse and Dim to forgive G. It's not about her at all. They need to find away to put her down so that she doesn't impact on their lives anymore. I think the only kind of forgiveness could be (not that I could do it) "She is incapable of being the mother we would wish for or need. She is frankly incapable of being a good person, therefore we can feel sorry for her but no longer angry." Also, just because you forgive shouldn't mean you have to forget, and frankly, I don't see why you can't forgive, but move on. I don't see why forgiveness has to mean loving and caring. I'm sure many of you will disagree, but that's my thought.
Looking forward to the rest of the recap. I have thoughts about the convo Adolfo had with JL but am not sure it's kosher to comment before that part of the recap is up.
Later,
Rebecca

Daisynjay, so you make 16 at the "Graciela is Faking It" table. My one huge thought last night was"You are faking it Gaudencia and this will come back to bite you".

Rebecca, I like this: "Also, just because you forgive shouldn't mean you have to forget, and frankly, I don't see why you can't forgive, but move on. I don't see why forgiveness has to mean loving and caring. "

Fatima

Your last recap and you're on fire Eli. You made me laugh right up front when I read---Poor Dimitrio has ended up on mom duty.
It's good to start the day out with a laugh. Eli, your whole first paragraph was brilliant. The
second one too when Dimi asks Gracie if she wants breakfast in bed or outside on the terrace with the other members of the family? You wrote---Dude, why do you have to torture the others with her presence? Still laughing.
I know that it's not nice to laugh at people but the way you wrote it Eli was just a hoot. I know that we all feel the same as you, it's just that some of us can't express it as good as you do. A great third paragraph and fourth paragraph too.

I can't wait for your part two.
the gringo

IMO, you DON'T HAVE to forgive in order to move on. There are some things that are unforgivable and Graciela has gone there - quite a few times. In real life, I have experienced a couple of unforgivable things myself and I have peace of mind, not forgiving.

Eli, Thank you for the first part of the recap. I can't wait for the rest! You have done a tremendous job during this telenovela, and I appreciate all the wonderful recaps that you have provided this forum.

I loved your comment about Graciela being an emotional vampire. Such truth!

A couple of the commenters have mentioned the actor who plays Jose Luis, and I just wanted to add that the writers definitely challenged him during this telenovela. Starting as a wounded, jilted boyfriend, hiding as a hacienda foreman with a secret identity, turning into a wealthy widower, enduring life as locked-up criminal, plotting as jealous husband, and finally seeking justice as powerful police chief, JL has had quite a lot of character transformations. Has anyone else on the show had to do such 360s for their characters? (Dimitrio changed, yes, but he's been consistently good for a while now.) So, the actor in my opinion, has done a great job as we've had to keep up with all the changes. I've loved, pitied, hated, feared, and cheered JL. Now, we're getting to the end, I wonder what will happen next for him. That scene with Angélica was awesome!

In any case, I'm glad the softer side of JL is coming back out. Maybe he'll shave now too. We can all dream, right?

Rebecca:

I love that zen story and very true it is. It's only hurting Monse and Dimi not to forgive her, I don't think they will ever forget what she did. That would be too difficult.

Fatima:

I hope you are having a great day today. This Gaudy table is getting crowded isn't it! It is that look in her eyes when she was caterwauling about her legs. She is so faking and if she isn't I'll eat my hat, jus' sayin'. Even Mr. Mads, who doesn't watch the show, came in from the kitchen, took one look at her screaming, looked at her for a sec and asked do those kids know she is faking? I lol'd.

I am so with you about the actor that is playing JL. He has had the most challenging role here. No one has done 360 degrees like he has on this show. I must say the actor has brought his A game throughout this whole TN. As far as the shaving goes, I like his rough edges so to speak, tall, dark and handsome, jus' sayin'.

Diana:

Don't feel bad about feeling for Fofito. I do sometimes, but enough of the killing already. And those eyelashes, sigh! What a pretty boy he is.

Ha ha! Caterwauling is right. That is a perfect word for her.

It sure is nice to be back on the patio. Even though I had a marathon session of catching up on recaps, I didn't read the comments, just not enough time, so I missed out on what has been going on with everyone. It sounds it has been a difficult summer/spring for quite a few of you, EJ moving, JudyB losing some friends, Susanlynn's job situation, Fatima "down in the trenches", and I know many others of you whom I have not mentioned are fighting your own battles too.

Fatima, I like what you said: "I'm certainly not down for the count, just temporarily woozy and coming back strong." Words to live by.

Now WTF? For my word verification they are showing me a bowl of potatoes. What am I supposed to do with that?

Cap'n:

I too get that when I want to comment without signing in. It's some type of stupid ad. I just sign in and it gets rid of that.

At least it reminded me that I am supposed to pick up some potatoes for dinner tonight.

Thank you Eli for a great Part I.

A few thoughts about JL. I think he would have brought Romina back eventually. Ref’s death and Romi’s illness just pushed the timeline up.

I’d also like to see him find someone in the GF (assuming he survives). At first, I thought the actor that played Angelica. Darken her hair, different style make-up and clothes, tweak the personality a bit. I know that probably wouldn’t work for most of you. I just miss the actor and her portrayal of Angie. So glad to see her last night. I actually only tuned into the end of ep right at the tail end of the dream. So a different actor, but one that looks enough like Angie to get JL’s attention, but not so much to be creepy. She would have the same sweetness, wisdom, zest for life (without the death sentence hanging over her head), and be pushy like Angie was in her sweet, irresistible way. Accepts JL for who he is and jollies him out of his tendency to moroseness. Maybe even has a little boy about Laurito’s age.

I wrote the above paragraph before reading the comments and it looks like JL IS going to the happy hunting grounds. Damn!! Maybe the writers will pull an Amor Bravio and do something NOT expected (though this TN is so heavy handed with the foreshadowing).

Now he realizes that Angie was the love of his life!

So Ale decides to be the galan we’ve been hoping for from Episode 1—in Ultimas Capitulos of a 195 ep TN!!!!!

Fatima: "Oh, Jerry, don't let's ask for the moon. We have the stars."

Nanette

Rebecca: I liked your thoughts on forgiveness.

Mads: Mr. Mads had me cracking up.

Sylvia: I had been getting an ad with "Photo Sphere". I just typed that in and it worked. Then I started hitting the circular arrow and I would get the usual "prove you're not a robot" numbers or words.

Nanette, I would be totally on board having Angel come back as another character! I want JL to remain here on earth and that would ensure his existence.

And "So Ale decides to be the galan we’ve been hoping for from Episode 1—in Ultimas Capitulos of a 195 ep TN!!!!!" was spot on. Egads. Finally.

Diana

Nanette, thank you for the best line from Now, Voyager, and one of the best lines of all time. More words to live by!

Not sure why I am getting those ads and prompts from Photo Sphere, I never used to. Meh, just hit the circle and move on.

Diana, I'll bet you didn't know it would be so crowded at JL's table.

I'm working on the 2nd part now, it will be done soon I hope!

Sylvia, I am happy to have such fine company at JL's table. Libations of choice are on me tonight...

Diana

When I read Jarifa's comment about JL's dream I immediately said that JL is on his way out, this is a foreshadowing given to us by the writers. Angelica is waiting for him in the next life.
Will JL go down trying to capture the scorpion?

Question---I had never seen Angelica, What family did she come from? Was she married to JL?
How and why did she die?

Susanlynn---No teaching job? Isn't there always a big demand for teachers? You will fit in again soon I'm sure. If not at that school, another one.

Cap'n:

I bit off topic. The new Hercule Poirot book comes out in hardback next month. It's called the "Monogram Murders" and the author is Sofia Hannah. I can hardly wait. I have a Nook, but still getting the hardback to go with my collection ; )

Gringo,

Yes, Angie was married to JL. She was Amelia's daughter and Ginny's sister. She sadly had some type of cancer. JL knew this when he married her, but he married her anyways. They were a lovely couple until she died. We were very sad. We were hoping for a miracle.

Thanks Diana! I accept. A tall glass of iced Jamaica for me please.

Madelaine, thanks for the heads up. I just put a hold on the book at two libraries so hopefully I will get it soon.

Thank you Eli for all of your hard work on this show!!!! Very much appreciated.

So happy the old JL is back!! And his mind is working better than anyone's after questioning Adolfo. I actually think Adolfo wants to die now.

Glad to see Angie but now I'm worried JL won't make it to the end. Hopefully the writers are just throwing us for a loop. He really deserves some happiness and now that he is free of Montse I hope he finds it.

gringo, I am sorry you missed Angelica, she is such an integral part of the story. She was a beautiful soul and was deeply in love with JL. It appeared they captivated most of us. She was here too brief of a time.

As Madelaine noted, we were hoping for a miracle. I'm not going to say whether or not I think JL will die, but I suspect whatever occurs, they will be together in the end, in either spiritual or human form.

I regret that he realized far too late she was the one.

Diana

Dear Eli:

Thank you for this and for all the wonderful recaps you've written in this space. Your voice is so spontaneous and your take on things so honest and often hilarious that it's a joy to read what you write.

I see my friend JudyB has already singled out the lines that struck me most, but I think they're worth repeating:

"Both men look close to tears and I realize that for all their faults they are at their very core decent men, maybe not very smart a great deal of the time but they are not evil and they don't seek to hurt others and hell that's a lot more than we can say about other characters in this story."

Beautifully put!

Diana, I completely agree with you. I was also thinking that JL and Angie will end up being together, one way or another. As it should be.

Eli, thanks for a stupendous part 1, I'm sure part 2 will be just as good! You always have me laughing out loud. I loved:

"Dimitrio has ended up on mom duty... maybe he's just thinking about how sucky it is to be stuck with Graciela for the day."

"dude why do you have to torture the others with her presence? Especially that early in the morning?"

My DVR didn't record the first 15 minutes so I will have to try Hulu to catch the scene with JL and Ale. I'm glad those two have made amends and can move on to take Pedro out. I don't wish for anything bad on JL, in fact although it was nice to see Angie again, I also felt a little creeped out. Hopefully the writers allow him to pull through and find love again, so that Romi will be blessed with 2 good dads.

Rebecca, I enjoyed your zen story and how it can relate to Montse and Dimi, forgiving so that they can move on and live in peace.

Daisynjay so glad to have you at the "Graciela is faking it" table. The more the merrier!

Maricruz

Thanks Madelaine and Diana for the info on Angie. What you guys wrote made me think of Eugenia in Por Siempre Mi Amor. She was sweet and loving also, impossible not to like her but like Angie she was taken away from us. It was
sad but that's the way it was written.

Not a spoiler but my guess is that the death count is going to rise and that JL will once again be with his beloved Angelica.
the gringo

Carvivlie we think alike. I thought in his conversation with JL Adolfo was just asking him to kill him. I think the writers have done a good job with that character. A while back someone called it: he is weak. He's too weak to stop the madness and he's too weak to take his own life (not that I'd want him to do that!) so he's trying to put it on JL to do it. At least that's what I took from it.
Rebecca

Ok, that's it. I have to re-watch "Now, Voyager" for like the tenth time this weekend. You guys have inspired me to indulge.

I agree that to some extent the breakdown of Esme was heartbreaking, but I had two things I would ask:

She has a son (where was he). Every day she can see him and see Refugio and she owes that little boy to be strong and keep going. he lost a parent too that he was attached to. Sometimes, as tempting as it is to just want to hide, or sleep or make yourself scarce, when there are kids involved...guess who gets the priority?

My other issue, again, she needs a source of income.Granted she may get something from the Navy, but I hope she listens to someone soon who can calm her and help her through what she truly needs to do. Hopefully closing the business would be selling it or maybe trying a different line of endeavor. Apparently, she was a pretty decent business woman.

Where is Amelia? She would be perfect for the job of helping...she's still in town right? I guess they want the writers to have Erik be the one to do it.

Darn I didn't get the potatos. I got the word PHOTO...yeah I know. We're supposed to have a photo.

welcome back Sylvia!
Daisynjay

This soap like the last two nights is an A- when it sticks to a good storyline and lets the actors act, because as a group they are pretty good.

But when you add in the excessive, pointless violence that has dominated the last several weeks, the soap becomes a D-.

Esme was particularly good the past two nights. Her body language and facial expressions tell all.

Eli,
Thanks for part 1 & 2. Looking forward to part 3, especially since I missed that part of the epi last night. I also want to thank you for being a recapper for this story. Your writing and dedication to the caray caray community has been superb. Gracias!

I still think Gracie's faking. And I was thinking the same thing as Urban. That Gracie is faking an illness, and will learn she is really sick when it's too late, and her children want nothing to do with her.

I also like the turn JL has made. I really felt he was sincere last night. I am upset that I missed the scene with Angelica. Does anyone know where I can find it?

One thing I was happy to see was Vic telling PBN the truth about Adolfo, and the fact that he, Vic, was the one who helped Peddy. It's about time that PBN know the truth about her brother, no matter how painful.

Can't wait for part 3.

Anxiously waiting...hasta pronto!

I agree with Oxnard Huero---Esme was Oscar potential last night.

The Angelica dream gave me the same sense of foreboding. However, how many times can they do this? Could we be getting faked out?

As long as they don't do what they did in La Esposa Virgen, I'm prepared for anything.

Eli, thanks a million for your super second part. Especially your insightful comments and observations about forgiveness. We have certainly had some great conversations on the subject. I enjoy reading everyone's points of view.

Rebecca: You're exactly right about Adolfo and his weaknesses. But will JL or Dimitrio pull the trigger? Dim really wants to be the one to do it but I think it will hurt more than help him. Whereas JL is not invested in Adolfo.

Eli, Thank you and all the other recappers for the wonderful work you have done on this TN. This was especially poignant: "Oh my heart can't take this, we joked at the start of this novela that the real love story was the one between JL and Refugio and I still think that's true. These two were there for each other through everything and Refugio for all his faults was always a loyal and kind friend, the kind you will be lucky to find. They were brothers and I'm sure that if given the chance Jose Luis would have taken that bullet for Refugio." That scene had me in tears as well. I have always been at JL's table. Underneath the jealousy and rage over Montse there was always a noble and good heart. It just got waylaid by grief and loss. I want JL to make it through but the scene with Angelica seems foreboding.

Adolfo knows he is nothing more than a cornered rat. He won't turn himself in and he doesn't have the will to actually kill himself so he's going for "death by cop". I feel bad for Nadia at this point. Montserrat has always been so "oh poor me" but Montse's problems have been minimal compared to Nadia's.

Rebecca, your zen story was spot on. I had a wonderful friend in college who, even when people were nasty to him, used to treat everyone with respect and good cheer. When I asked him how he could be so nice to nasty people he simply said, "I refuse to let them drag me down to their level."

after last night's episode and reading everyone's comments for the past few days, I feel I must give my explanation for Adolfo's behavior. I think if we look down deep, at one time or another, we all been or known someone who has been in Adolfo's position. the only difference is that's his is magnified for the drama of a tn. since Finita's been back in his life (and even a little before) he's changed. he WANTS a better life. he WANTS to change, but he can't. he unfortunately made ONE bad decision a LONG time ago and is still paying the price. once he made it, there was no going back without losing his life or his sister's. but no one is going to understand that no matter how he tries to explain it. once you start lying and your in so deep, you really have no choice but to keep up the lie because you know if you tell the truth, you will lose everything that's important to you. Adolfo's tears last night, all alone at Refugio's grave is proof that he does feel bad for his actions, but he has no way out without losing everyone that matters to him. so he'd rather die. his teeth grinding is an outward exhibition of his struggle. he didn't want to lie to Nadia, but he couldn't tell her the truth either. remember, his and Nadia's relationship has grown over all this time too, not just Dimitrio and Montse's. I just think he deserves some compassion for being stuck between the hardest rock and the hardest place. just my thoughts...

on another note, I think there are many little secrets that we might never see revealed in this tn. like the fact that it was really Benjamin that caused Pedro to lose his avocates. like someone pondered on yesterday, if Pedro had found out earlier, I think it would have changed the course of the show. but at this point, that issue is so small that I think the writers will forget about it in the end.

no spoiler, but JL is done! Angelica saying she's waiting for him was all I needed to hear. he's never going to be happy with everyone he's lost. he will be with Angelica.

i'm still at the Gaudy's faking table and i'm comfortable! I was just waiting for the scene when she got up and walked, but alas, nothing. and poor Dim's face just shows that he is still internally struggling with his decision to forgive his mother. his facial expressions in the last scene were remarkable and great non-verbal acting!

The recap is fully done!

Eli, I have to say the recap just got better and better. I loved these two lines:

"if I were Nadia I'd hit him in the back of the head for being stupid enough to believe anything Pedro had to say, but that's just me."

"instead of feeling sad they should buy a giant clock and count down the days till the witch dies, kinda like we count down the minutes on New Years Eve, oooo I think they should get party hats and booze to celebrate the end of Graciela!"

I'm sad to think that Angelica's appearance is a death sentence for JL but I think many of you who have predicted this have been watch TN's for longer than I. Sigh. I would so love to see JL and Ale go back to the budding bromance when JL was the capitaz. Perhaps that would be too mature of the writers to allow this kind of arc to the story?

Obsessed I think you have Adolfo down to a t. That's what I was trying to say. If only he could do as the Padre advised and give himself up. True he would lose everything, but he might find himself a new in the carcel.

Gotta run, looking forward to tonight.
Rebecca
And P.S. I am still enjoying my margarita at the Gracie is faking table.

Eli, thank you for sharing your sister's dream which was so special.

Jarifa

Eli,your first paragraph touched my heart and your last paragraph touched me even more. I cherish that story about your mom.

We were at a spiritual retreat one weekend when my husband's deceased father appeared to him...to reassure him that there was nothing to fear in death and that he was just fine. It really shook him....but in a good way.

And while I understand your annoyance at seeing Graciela get a "free pass" forgiveness from her children, by forgiving her they are choosing keep their own hearts open to the wonder and beauty of Life...Life right now.

People don't...and can't "earn" your forgiveness. You either give it or you don't. Montserrat is choosing to be loving with her mother regardless. Not sure Dimitrio is there yet. His heart is still too wrapped up with bitterness and vengeance. But we can certainly hope he doesn't wait too long--as Esmeralda did.

I'll just add this quote from a book on Forgiveness that is both wise and amusing.

"Disappointment in a relationship is inevitable. Harping on it is a choice."

By forgiving, you choose not to harp, verbally or in your thoughts, on your grievances with a particular person. By forgiving you extend your moments of peace. And you stay open to the possibility of love all around you.

To me, there's really no up side to holding on to rancor.

But back to your recap...it was written with such feeling, such honesty. You truly gave the best of yourself. Amazing how these dramatic stories touch our hearts.

Thank you dear Eli.

Obsessed---YES, Dim's face did show that he had not completely forgiven mama. Just like you said
he's struggling--kind of but not all the way there yet. I did notice that last night. Dim put his arm around Gracie along with St. Montse but he was thinking twice about it.
the gringo

Eli, great Part 2 and 3 too. If I were Nadia I'd hit him in the back of the head... - lol. Loved your commentary. I too take deep comfort in the belief that our loved ones who've left watch over us.

LQLVMR has already broken some TN rules, so I've got my fingers crossed that JL may get to watch Romina grow and to be a father figure for Angel.

Eli, I am literally in tears after reading parts 2 and 3 of your truly stellar recap. You saved the best for last. And it was lovely and beautiful.

"Poor Blind Nadia sees the light and it burns" was amazing. But it was your heartfelt comments that will stay with me: "...we are not guaranteed anything, so before saying something hurtful we need to stop and think if that's the last thing we want a loved one to hear coming out of our mouths" were words to live by.

And like you, JL is breaking my heart: "Oh my heart can't take this, we joked at the start of this novela that the real love story was the one between JL and Refugio and I still think that's true". Yes. Truly.

Thank you for including the conversation between JL and Angelica. I am so happy he no longer loves Monse. I fervently hope it is soon enough to save him.

That said, I echo "I have always been at JL's table. Underneath the jealousy and rage over Montse there was always a noble and good heart. It just got waylaid by grief and loss. I want JL to make it through but the scene with Angelica seems foreboding". Xintperuvian, this was perfection.

Refugio can never be replaced but I timidly wonder if Erik may be a good match for her in the future. Free spirited and accepting, Esme would always be free to be herself. He should have made himself scarce though to allow Esme to cloak herself in her grief, as she deserves. She needs distance now and he is too intrusive.

Eli, thank you for the emotion you gave to this. You are awesome.

Diana

Thanks, Eli. I've really enjoyed reading this recap throughout the day. I waited patiently (well, patiently by my standards) for each successive bite, and I admit, I'm a bit disappointed that you've finally posted the last portion, especially since this is your final recap for this TN. You are very clever and very talented and have a wonderful way of not only providing us with the details of the episode but also sharing your warmth, humor, and little glimpses into your soul revealing the delightfully interesting person you are.

So, who is the more tragic figure... María or Adolfo? Both were shaped by what they intrinsically were as well as the extraneous forces that influenced them. I had such high hopes for María finding some sort of redemption and I'm sure you Adolfistas had (or perhaps still have) similar hopes for him.

Carlos

Niece in MD, I was thinking the same thing! Angel will need a father figure, and who better than his dad's BFF. We can hope the writers take this unconventional route and not kill off JL. After all, they set the story in modern times and a lot of divorced people now a days deal with their exes for the kids' sake, some even maintaining good friendships. After wounds heal, I think Montse, JL and Ale can have that.

Maricruz

Great work, Eli. This has been a tough week in Aguazul and for us.

Maricruz, I share your wish that JL decides to live for Angel, who was named for Angelica. In another faith he would feel obliged to marry Esmeralda to insure her and Angel's continued survival in the name of his friendship for Refugio, but now would be far too soon for anything like that. Nor would he be right for her. But he has no other family except for Romina.

Erik may be right for Esmeralda, but it's much too soon for her.

Carlos, I have to say that Adolfo is the more tragic of the two. He blindly made one very bad choice that has cost him his soul. He traded that for the promise of easy money and -- like Faust -- has lived long enough to regret it for what it has done to him and to the people he cares about. He is afraid to face the hell that prison would be and can't make himself commit suicide, so last night he asked JL to kill him.

If that's how he goes out, it will hurt JL to do it but he's strong enough to get over it. He has two kids to live for.

Maria, on the other hand, knew what she was doing. All her choices were entirely her own through the story. She could have chosen to move to the town and work with Victor. She could have gone to business school with Alejandro paying the bill. Adolfo could have done more for her if she had allowed him to. But she chose her obsession, drugs, and delusion. It was disturbing to hear of the desecration of her body by Pedro (although totally in character for him to order such an act) but it was symbolic of her desecration of the very concept of love.

Cap'n Sharkbait, thank you for your kind words and for thinking of all of us who have had some difficult moments lately. I thought of you this past weekend (before you started posting again) and wondered how you were doing. I was watching Chef Rick Bayless do some cooking on the beach by the Sea of Cortez. It was SO beautiful. He loves Mexico so much. You can hear it in his voice. I was wondering if you had been to that area. I will have to find the episode to tell you exactly where he was.

Madelaine, amiga, Mr. Mads is a VERY smart man! :))

You know what really tugged at my heart strings last night? It was little Romina (sorry, that name is still not my fave, but...)called JL "papa". It really and truly touched JL. I understand that feeling very much. Even though it was a "word",the baby did more non-verbal things that really displayed how she felt about him. It was a touching moment.

The Angelica dream was also moving and I am glad JL was able to leave Montserrat behind, BUT I was worried that it was a sign that he might not make it. Like many of you, I think he could find much happiness in being a support to Esmeralda.

I also felt Esmeralda's pain in closing her place. She is a fighter, though, and will find a new purpose in her life.

I also agree that Adolfo was literally asking JL to kill him. He knows his time is coming to a close.

Nanette, oh my yes, those last lines delivered by Bette Davis are the ABSOLUTE BEST!!!!! I love when they pan up to the stars!

Am on pins and needles for tonight!

Thank you again for a wonderful recap, Eli!!!

Fatima

Eli:

Thank you so much for this heartfelt recap. You have a unique voice and perspective. I have truly enjoyed recapping with you.

I agree with you and all who are grieving over the loss of Refugio. His relationship with JL was one of unconditional love. For me, those two men have had the most powerful connection we saw in this show.

I too, was troubled, by the command appearance of Angelica. "I am still waiting for you." Wow. That line sounds ominous when it comes fromt he lips of a dead person.

EJ

Sorry not enough time to comment tonight except to say that now I'd really like to eatch "Now Voyager". Does anyone know where to find this highly recommded movie?

Urban, I couldn't sleep right for days afterward because of the ending the writers chose for "La Virgen Esposa". I absolutely hated it.

Eli, your recaps are always filled with a great combination of emotion and humor. Thanks for sharing your skills with us for the run of Robo.

Thanks, Eli, for your excellent recap as we near the end of this story. Thanks also for all your great recaps despite your busy life. I appreciate your time and talent.

It would seem that Angie's dream visit means that JL will be joining her soon, but I would rather have him get along peacefully with Mony and Ale so that he can watch Romina grow up and to be there for Esme and Angel. Who knows what the writers did. My guess is that JL will join Angie sooner than later...but I am usually wrong in my guesses.

Well, we are at the shore , so I am going to take my coffee and sit on the balcony and look at the ocean before the family all wake up and we head for the beach. Have a good day, all. I did not see the show last night , so I am looking forward to the recap.
