Hasta El Fin Del Mundo #5: 8/22/14: We Are Family, I've Got All My Sisters With Me!
Hola Amiguis! I have another earworm for you in light of what occured during this epi. Sisters, Sisters!
I didn't take notes watching so if I missed anything please let me know. Take a look at these sisters! They look like close sisters don't they? But pictures don't tell the whole story do they? Shall we begin?
We start where we left off last episode. The arguement at the Ripoll table. With all the money that Alexa has spent in Spain, she must have lived like a Queen for four years. Sofia advises Alexa to go back there if she wants to. We'll get back to them in a tic.
Chava, Marisol and Lupe are at table too. Chava would really like it if Marisol would go back to school. Marisol argues with Chava and tells him it's a new century, not back in the day. She wants to earn her own money to get what she wants when she wants it. Chava is thinking of selling his race car. Here Lupe puts her foot down. Chava worked so hard for that car, and someday he'll get back to racing.
Greta is defending Alexa of course. Alexa is an actress and talented. We find out that Sofia does manage the trust set up for the sisters, as well as the money from the Chocolate Factory. She was put in charge of managing their Papa's estate. Alexa accuses Sofia of being dead inside, the factory is her whole life and nothing else. Sofia has had enough and shouts that Alexa is a parasite and that Alexa resents her. Alexa accuses Sofia of being the Queen here. Alexa isn't allowed to do anything and she wants her money. Greta tells them to shut it finally. Dani is so upset she runs off. Who comes to save the day, Fausto that's who! Fausto does tell Greta she could fix this, but she won't.
Marisol and Chava continue to argue too. She tells him he is not her Papa. Lupe too wants them to stop, She's had enough. Marisol just wants to live her life. Lupe agrees with Chava. Lupe will give her support and Chava will think about this.
Silvie and Pato are at the bar having drinks. Pato says Silvie will be the Maid of Honor at the wedding, but Silvie isn't sure she wants to do that. Silvie has to accept that Sofia likes Pato and her silence is eloquent. Silvie admits she has no boyfriend. She doesn't think there is the right guy for her out there, but she sure is eyeing Pato up and down like a delicious truffle. Silvie or Pato say that Sofia is like a robot. They toast to that. Pato doesn't want to talk badly about Sofia. Silvie is getting ready to go, Pato will take her back to her car at the Chocolate Factory, but she'll take a taxi. He kisses her cheek and just inch more and it would have been the lips. They look like they both want more.
Now to Armando and Irma. Irma is in the mood for some hanky pankey. Why the celebration he wants to know. She is wearing a slinky dress, and she says it's cause she has been thinking of him. Their son comes and interrupts. Nandito, their little boy, is being put to bed by Armando. Nandito is afraid that Armando will leave him again. Armando promises he won't do that. Nandito goes to sleep and Armando goes back out to Irma. Irma kisses Armando and he assures her that they are now reconciled. They get to the smooching. Armando stops of a bit and wants to make sure Nandito is asleep. Irma likes Armando alot but not his obsession with racing and cars. She wants his full attention, and wants to marry the galan of the cine, he thinks back to the Ripolls. They schlepp to the bedroom.
Miguelina comes home and Lucas is there. He wants her to quit her job. Miguelina is mad at him cause he almost cost Miguelina her job. If she didn't have that job, how would they live? He shows her all that cash he stole, and she wants to know how he got it? He working at a restaurant he tells her. He got it through an agency he tells her. Miguelina wants to keep working so she can send him back to school.
Sofia is very sad and in her Papa's study. She opens his cigar box and asks him why he left her with all of this responsiblity. How she would love to get his advice. She misses him so badly and is sad he is gone.
Alexa comes to talk to Dani. Dani is very sad. Alexa thinks that Sofia hates her. Dani tells Alexa she doesn't beleive any of this actress roles that Alexa is spouting.
Chava is in bed asleep when there is a knock on his window. He goes outside and it is a girl with a moto. He invites her inside for empanadas but this girl doesnt' want any problems with his women. He tells her about his new job as the chofer. She ends up going and Chava laughs.
Sofia is at breakfast and asks where everyone else is. Alexa is still asleep and Dani comes down and greets Miguelina very nicely. Sofia asks her why she does that. Dani says that's how she rolls. Fausto comes and he is sort of like the Major Domo and is a wizard at organization and running the house. Fausto is going to call Chava cause he's late.
Chava gets the call, and can't beleive he overslept. He takes a shower and gets ready to go.
Armando is taking his son to school and Irma hurries them along or they will be late. After Armando drops Nandito at school he is going job hunting.
Chava has gone to get fitted for a suit, he will need for his chofer's job. He takes the bus to the Ripoll house and people stare at him in his new suit.
Marisol is all dressed up to go to work her first day on the job at the Ripoll factory. Lupe asks her if she will be doing secretarial work, not the obrera work right? I think Lupe meant as a line worker. I'm not sure. Marisol thinks back to what Silvana told her.
Alexa is still asleep and gets a call from a guy named Alan in Spain. She witches about the early hour he's called her. He yells at Alexa and tells her he needs the rent money or she'll be out on her ear. This is all Sofia's fault of course, cause she wouldn't give up the money.
Chava has finally gotten to work and Fausto likes Chava's new "luke" but tells him next time to use the servant's entrance. Sofia is coming down the stairs and likes his look too. Greta comes down and is very upset. She wants them to come and watch the news. They all go and watch the news. They are reporting the attempted kidnap of Sofia. Greta is fit to be tied cause Sofia never told her about it. It is reported that the police are looking for the kidnappers. Sofia tells Greta that Commandante Tobares is in charge of the investigation and she made a declaration at the police station. Sofia tells Greta that because of Salvador she is alive and well. Greta thanks him and Salvador tells them he will always make sure Sofia is safe and sound.
Silvana and Pato are in Silvana's office and he gets a call and leaves. It's from someone named Peralta and he will meet him at his office.
Armando is taking a look at Chava's race car. He discovers it leaked water and something is definitely not right with it. It's been tampered with.
Alexa isn't buying the kidnap story. Sofia made it up to get attention. Greta tell her to shut it. Sofia is a hard worker. Alexa says she is the real victim here and Sofia is a witch. Alexa really wants her money, that director in Spain really wants her. Greta tells Alexa, why not work here in Mexico. There are very many famous directors right here with Hollywood connections. Alexa of course doesn't agree and goes off in a huff.
Dani is riding along with Sofia and Chava. They are dropping her off at school. Dani likes the fact that Chava was a race car driver. Chava realizes he is talking too much, but that's how Dani rolls. They drop her off at school and Chava and Sofia continue on to Ripoll.
Poor Armando can't win. He tries to get another mechanics job, but no one will hire him. His reputation has preceded him. Sucks to be Armando.
Pato has his meeting with Peralta, who is the skeevy wine cellar guy. Peralta's henchie is not happy with Pato for the failed kidnap. Peralta advises Pato to move against Salvador (Chava). Pato will have Sofia sign some paperwork and he'll mess with some numbers I think, and then the land that Ripoll sits on with be Peraltas.
Chava and Sofia arrive at work, and the press is out in full force. What to do ? Sofia makes a call and Chava asks her why she just doesn't go in the back way? No, no, that is undignified Sofia says.
AVANCES:
Alexa causes a scene and not in the movies or the theater. Armando to the rescue!
Chava accidently interrupts Pato and Sofia.

Sofia is quite the snob. First she tells her sister she shouldn't "act like that" with the help. All Dani did was say "TQM" (te quiero mucho) to Miguelina. Then, even though she wanted to avoid the press, she refused to go through the back because "it isn't seemly" for her to do so. Can't stand her.

Hi Mads. ....thanks for the recap. We should clear somethings up.
1. Daniela agrees with Alexa that Sofia is a witch. Daniela tells Alexa that Sofia doesn't believe that Alexa has been working as an actress.
2. ALEXA name drops a director. Greta says that Greta knows that director and will help her get the roll. Alexa then changes the name of the director. This makes Greta doubt her as well.
3. I think that Alan is Alexa's boyfriend. He is angry because he is being evicted. She tells him that she made a deal with the landlord before she left and he said that THEY wouldn't be evicted while she worked out things in Mexico.

There is so much palpable resentment and tension in the family, it is hard to watch. The women can scarcely be in the same room without bickering. It's very sad.
I had thought Sofia reserved and somewhat guarded. But I have to say Anon, I was surprised and disappointed that she questioned Dani as to why she spoke so nicely to Miguelina. It was a rather snobbish remark indeed and one more worthy of Greta. However, I suspect there is already a hairline fracture in her rather hard outer shell now though caused by Chava's brave heroics and sweet demeanor. Let's hope she continues to thaw and be a little sweeter and kinder.
I think Armando has character and heart and hope someone will give him a chance. Perhaps he and Irma were once in love but he certainly does not seem enchanted now. Irma seems selfish and leaves me rather cold. Maybe I'm judging prematurely.
Fausto is the glue keeping the family together right now. He seems to have Greta's confidence and certainly is treated as an equal by mother and daughters.

I just love Fausto. Whenever the girls are acting up he comes to the rescue and always seems to be able to help.
The Argentinian Fausto has really made himself a nest inside my heart but this Fausto is also getting quite close. Love Alejandro Tommasi in this role!
Alexa was the usual drama queen. Hope she understand's how much pressure Sofia is always under and takes it a bit easier.

Marjorie de Souza has the strangest voice I've ever heard. It's grating and whiny at the same time and I can't take it anymore. I find myself FFing whenever she's on screen, so what's the point? I'm done.

Madelaine - Fab recap. The Rosemary Clooney "Sisters" earworm is just perfect. Appreciate your filling in the details because I'm finding the language harder to follow as they're using more slang.
Diana, surely you're right and Chava will change Sofia for the better and she'll lose the snobbery. But this attitude makes me not feel bad that her best friend and fiancé are coming on to each other.
I don't have a warm fuzzy for Armando and Irma together. The sex seemed like, uh, just horny sex, not electric sex. Not a lot of joy and fun intimacy there. And the next morning, it seemed like Irma was up to something behind Armando's back.
Are any mechanics watching the show? I'm curious to know whether Armando's mechanics talk makes sense.
I missed that gossipy Mattias. He and Chava are my favorites right now. Chava was so cute in his new suit on the bus, with the chicks and gay guy giving his new look their approval with their eyes.

You don't like Pedro's looks or Marjorie's voice. But from now on may I suggest that you first admit whether or not you've ever won a beauty pageant or a vocal competition. If you have then let me be the first to congratulate you! But if you haven't, it's only fair to admit that you are the pot that's calling the kettle black.
Enough already. Find a show you DO like so you can post something positive THERE.

Really? Go post somewhere else? One of the best things about this forum is that all comments are welcome- good or bad. I'm not the "drive-by" and I don't necessarily agree with ALL the comments but I simply ignore the negative, although some are really funny. That's the beauty of Caray. You can comment or not. You can agree or not. And it doesn't matter whether you're a handsome galan or a beauty queen, have a great voice or are a toad. Comment away!

As far as Mattias, I am with you and TomBoy. He may speak and gossip a bit too much but he livens things up (and I have a fondness for the actor). I think (and hope) Chava and Armando do consider him a friend despite his loose lips :) although Pato and others do ignore him.

Thank you. I am such a fan of musicals and Broadway, and immediately thought of Sister, when they were all arguing at the table. I too want Sofia to thaw. Chava has changed her and I like the way she giggles with him. It's very cute. I too don't have a warm fuzzy about Irma either. She's out for what she can get, I think that's why Lupe was so mad at her the other day. I too hope Armando finds someone better than her.

Fausto is my favorite character. How sweet he is and I love his sense of humor. Wasn't it funny that Sofia called only him after the kidnap attempt. That shows she has a lot of respect for him. He's like the fixer almost. I too like AT in this role. I think Alexa is only about herself and how things affect her. If she actually worked, she'd see how much pressure Sofia is under. I want to see her do that.

I think I may have gotten something wrong about the water, because what Armando was looking at besides the radiator seemed to be the a fuel injector. If the gas was mixed with water, major disaster. I'm hoping Armando talks more about this so I can get a better idea.

Thank you. I am such a fan of musicals and Broadway, and immediately thought of Sister, when they were all arguing at the table. I too want Sofia to thaw. Chava has changed her and I like the way she giggles with him. It's very cute. I too don't have a warm fuzzy about Irma either. She's out for what she can get, I think that's why Lupe was so mad at her the other day. I too hope Armando finds someone better than her.

Fausto is my favorite character. How sweet he is and I love his sense of humor. Wasn't it funny that Sofia called only him after the kidnap attempt. That shows she has a lot of respect for him. He's like the fixer almost. I too like AT in this role. I think Alexa is only about herself and how things affect her. If she actually worked, she'd see how much pressure Sofia is under. I want to see her do that.

We already know a bit about Paco. He was working with Greta and her hubby at the beginning of the Chocolate Factory, but Maestro Coria, the present Chocolate Master, stole Paco's recipes and then Paco got shoved out and Coria was in.
As far Greta goes, we'll have to see. She absolutely can't stand the mention of Union Colonia, the neighborhood where the chocolate factory is and gets skittish when she meets anyone from there.

She was not well liked there even though her character was one of the good guys by the end. In MEPS she was a sweet country girl and was much more appealing with much less makeup. Carlos- In addition to seeing her in Refugio (which I believe you dropped in on from time to time), you also saw her in CME as sexy vine expert Alfonsina in her tight jeans. I just think her Gardenia (MEPS) role will stay burned in your mind forever. :)

Thanks for reminding me Vivi and Madelaine. I regret not watching Refugio, it's always fondly referred to. During CME I was aware that Alfonsina had been Gardenia in a previous incarnation, but you are right Vivi, Gardenia is burned in my mind as one of my favorite characters ever. It was a pleasure to defend her during MEPS, and I felt much the same way about Matilde in CME. So far I don't have a similar feeling for Irma... maybe with less makeup and perhaps a headband.
Speaking of makeup, I just realized that Alexa was formerly Verónica in PEAM, whom I adored until she went completely off her nut. Alexa could benefit from less makeup and Verónica's wardrobe.

Anon 9:57- This is an ongoing conversation about this particular actress that Carlos and I have been having since about 4 telenovelas back about this particular actress. Thanks for the lesson on objectification- I'm well aware. I think you'll find one of the things we love about these tns are the pretty faces (both men and women), hot bods (both men and women), good acting, great chemistry (neither having to do with looks), fun/exciting storylines. I assure you that in my every day life, I am not telling men or women how hot they look in some tight jeans, unless they want me to. Thanks. ;-)
