Hasta el fin del mundo - English synopsis - robo bloggers phone home

This is the telenovela replacing Lo que la vida me robo; it's starting Monday August 18. Robo blogging team, please write me at caray@mappamundi.com and let me know if you are staying on for "Hasta." Anybody else who's interested, let me know.

Sofía Ripoll Bandy (Marjorie de Sousa), a tough, beautiful, intelligent and distinguished woman, is director general of the Ripoli Factory, the girlfriend of Patricio Iturbe (Julian Gil) and the older sister of Alexa and Daniela. She is head of the family business.

Salvador Cruz aka Chava (Pedro Fernández), a simple, noble and sympathetic man, a race car driver and mechanic, met Sofia when he lost the chance to compete in an important race. Both felt an immediate attraction, the start of a history during which they will have to overcome obstacles thrown in their path by Patricio - an ambitious man who uses Sofia to rise in the business hierarchy - and Silvana Blanco (Mariana Seoane) - the supposed best friend of Sofia. Patricio and Silvana form an alliance to obstruct Sofia and Salvador.

Alexa Ripoll Bandy (Claudia Álvarez) is an extroverted, capricious girl, doted on by her mother, just back from Spain. A great attraction arises between her and Armando Romero, Salvador's friend, causing jealousy in Irma, Armando's girlfriend and mother of Nando.

Daniela Ripoll Bandy (Jade Fraser) is the youngest of the sisters, a pretty girl who lights up the house. She meets Lucas Cavazos at a shopping mall; he will become the love of her life. He is spontaneous and sympathetic. Lucas undertakes several illegal jobs to help his grandmother.

Fausto Rangel (Alejandro Tommasi), head servant in the mansion, is a man of exquisite taste. He counsels the Ripoli women and dedicates himself body and soul to them, living through the most unusual situations with them.

Greta Bandy de Ripoll (Olivia Bucio), widowed mother of the three daughters, is hiding a secret that will change the lives of her daughter Sofia and also of Francisco "Paco" Fernández (César Évora), shop keeper in the Union colonia and father of Araceli (Ximena Herrera), who struggles insatiably for Salvador's love.

The characters are seeking the road to happiness. Sofia and Salvador fight for their love, beginning a voyage that will carry them to the end of the world.

Comments:
Doesn't sound very interesting. Besides, can't stand Pedro Fernandez, Julian Gil OR de Sousa's creepy, grating voice. I'm outie.

I can't wait for this one to start. I'm staying to recap on
Fridays and what's not to like with chocolate and racing? Also this TN is written and produced by the same team that did
Amores Verdaderos, that fab TN. I think this one will be very good.

I'll give it a couple of days to grab me but de Sousa is hard to take almost as bad as Boyer.

You guys can count me in :)

If you are recapping Madelaine - I'm in. 'nuff said :)

Diana

Pedro Fernandez is a mutt. Why him? I wanna recap something, but my whole recap would be trying to figure out what in the hell a girl would be physically attracted to on him. Then ya know they would have to make him a singing ex race car driver...hmmm...just the thought of it gives me the creeps!

Cynderella

This plot sounds like more of the cookie cutter Univision crap they've been turning out for years. Talented girl is with dastardly guy but really is attracted to a humble, kind guy. Frivolous rich girl is her rival. Blech. Try Telemundo.

I've said it several times on different threads. The story on this one really is good. The Chilean version of this is wonderful. I am doubtful about much of this casting, but Marjorie is well cast. I will watch for at least the first week. I'm interested in seeing how the Mexican version stacks up to the Argentine and Chilean versions.

If our Madelaine is recapping, I will give it a try. I agree with Cynderella. Pedro Fernandez is a mutt.

Sara, I will be waiting to hear your thoughts re how this one compares to the Argentine and Chilean versions.

Fatima

I've only seen the first episode of the Argentine version. I keep up regularly with the Chilean version. Jorge Zabaleta=hubba hubba. It will be hard for Pedro to compete (and I actually like Pedro in romantic roles i.e. Cachito de Cielo.)

I'm on MCET, so count me out. I will probably watch, though, to see if it grabs me. Marjorie De Sousa hasn't played a nice girl since Rebeca.

My mom likes this but I haven't given it a chance since I want to take some time to rest from the 9 pm timeslot and I can't find Pedro Fernández actractive.

From what I've seen, I think Marjorie de Sousa is fine in the role. I usually like Claudia Álvarez in this type of character but the fake Spanish accent is so grating and her eye make up is ridiculous. Julián Gil is excellent at playing bad but he is so obvious that it makes you wonder why every character can't see it.

Sara, I'll check to see your opinion on how this compares to the originales. I find that Nicandro Díaz usually can't come close to the originals or to other good versions but I like the changes he made to Amores Verdaderos.

Jarocha

I will not be joining you all for this one. I will pop in for comments.

Good luck to all.

Kind regards,

Elna June

Sounds good to me. I'll watch. I tried Telemundo but couldn't get into the blood and guts. (What's' more cookie cutter than the predictability of that)? Oh well, let's call it different strokes for different folks.

Before I continue let me say that I will be watching at least the first week and I will be very generous with it because I do like Pedro and Diego.

That being said, the promos I've seen make this look rather cartoonish compared to the Chilean version. I also have grave doubts about the Claudia Alvarez casting, but that's because I like the Chilean counterpart so darn much. I also love Alejandro Tomassi, but again, the Chilean counterpart is so delightful that I can't imagine anyone doing it better.

I don't know how much I will comment because I can see myself screwing up and saying something about the version I've seen and accidentally letting a spoiler slip.

Still, I look forward to seeing what this version has to offer.

I agree about Pedro Fernandez, I'm just not into him. I'm a little surprised they didn't cast Diego Olivera as the lead instead. Since I'm not in love with any of these actors, I won't stretch myself to fit it in.

Diana:

I am so glad you will be viewing. This one looks so very good.

Sara:

Did you ever watch Amores Verdaderos? It was a remake of an Argentine TN and this producer that is doing Hasta, did Amores Verdaderos and did a fantastic job with that. I expect the same this time. He changed AV up a bit, but not drastically. I like Pedro Fernandez since I saw Dinero. I did catch a bit of Cielo, and he was good in that. I want to see how Marjorie de Sousa does as a good girl. She was really good as Kenra in AV, but she was a real baddy in that one. Claudia Alvarez was Veronica in PEAM and horrid there too. She ought to be good as a good girl here. This one will be a lot lighter than Robo is. Oh, and Diego Olivero, from Amorcito Corazon is in this one too, as Pedro Fernandez crew chief and mechanic. He plays a good guy here too. So many great actors.

cathyx, I agree with you re Diego Olivera. The guy is one handsome hunk of a man. Why is he not getting the older galan parts. Colunga is still getting them, why not Olivera?

I just have this feeling that if this doesn't grab me by week one, then it's no dice. Julian Gill is not my type (ha!), but he does play the bad types very well.

Fatima

I've watched the first episode. I'm still not feeling Pedro. I can't muster up any excitement for him. His sidekick Diego should have been the galan. This show is guaranteed to move to the daytime slot. :^) Who cast this? I wonder do the actors think that as well sometimes. Cynderella

P.S. Amores Verdaderos had hotties every where. This one? Not so much.

It's actually doing very well in Mexico. It and MCET are the top two shows.

I agree that Diego is more the galan material, but he's not right for either the galan OR galan sidekick role. Maybe I've seen him in too many roles as distinguished gentleman, but the idea that he's a humble barrio dweller just doesn't fly with me.

Madelaine-I did see AV and I liked it...until the extension.

Let me clarify-Diego is not good for the galan or sidekick role in this particular show.

Sara: I get the impression that Diego's role is supposed to be like a more adult, less goofy version of Rocky from Al Diablo Con Los Guapos.

Nicandro Díaz tends to cast older and more established actors in the galán roles. In the last ten years, the only actor below 40 that he has hired as a galán was Sebastián Rulli.

Jarocha

Casting an older galan is smart for this one. In the Chilean version the protagonista is supposed to be 35 and the galan celebrates his 40th in one episode.

I still can't picture Diego as a Rocky type. And that certainly isn't how that character is played in the Chilean version.

What is replacing De que te quiero te quiero? Doesn't that one end soon also?

Cathyx:La Gata is

Crap novela. Nacandro and Telerisa are responsible for ruining Robó bc of the useless extension and his bs fear of his novela flopping during the soccer matches in June. It's not doing well in MX and he deserves it. I wont watch this novela

Probably La gata. That and MCET will upstage HEFDM in the US ratings-wise.

Yeah, all those hotties upstaged Feiza, including Marjorie de Sousa.

DQTQTQ ends August 29. I really don't see Univision starting La Gata on Labor Day, so I predict that for a week there will either be two hours of MCET (this is doubtful since we aren't very far behind) OR they will do like they did after CI and do the "special" schedule for El Gordo y La Flaca and if it on from 7/6c.

They have promoed HEFDM and LM for a month and we haven't heard a peep about La Gata, so I really don't expect it to air *right* after DQTQTQ.

This is all conjecture.

2 questions:
What is HEFDM?
What is replacing Que Pobres Tan Ricos which ends on the 24th?

duh, never mind about the first question.

La Malquerida is replacing QPob.

Sara, I've been looking for info on what starts when and I can't find anything. Where are you getting your info? Univision has no dates or time mentioned.

@Eva: Regarding Telemundo being all about "blood and guts", it sounds like you only looked at the 10:00 pm narconovelas they've done. The pattern now appears to me to be: 8:00 Romance on the light side; younger protagonists and maybe a hint of comedy 9:00 More serious drama with somewhat older protagonists. 10:00 Right now El Señor de los Cielos and at other times other violent novelas. I don't care for those either.

But Telemundo doesn't appear to do constant refritos. At least you get to see a new plot that you haven't seen 5 times already.

Cathyx - Uni had been running promos for Hasta el Fin and La Malquerida for about a month.

My comments about La Gata are just pure guesses.

Anon@04:41, you're so right. I always tuned in after whatever I was watching on Univision was over. That was around 10PM. But another reason that the "cookie cutter plot repetition is good for me is because I'm here to learn Spanish. I've been watching for about 2 years now and the predictability plus the excellent recaps has been a tremendous help. I wouldn't be able to figure out much of what was going on without the repetition and the recaps. If you don't mind my asking, what is your level of Spanish?

@Eva. I'd say I'm an advanced Spanish speaker/listener. I moved through the Adult Education evening classes at the high school from beginning, through intermediate, and still take a regular advanced class. In the advanced class, only Spanish is spoken and we read and discuss somewhat complicated novels in Spanish.

I began watching novelas, just like you have done, to improve my comprehension. The first one I watched all the way through was El Privilegio de Amar in 1998, and I had to back up the recording and listen again many times to get the gist.

I still watch at least one per week, and have come to prefer Telemundo for the reasons I stated above: they don't seem to repeat plots that often. Also I think they do a better job of representing the roles of women in society because they take place in the US.

Anon, I envy you. Although I've been watching novelas for only 2 years, I've been studying Spanish on and off for at least the last 5 years. I always watch with subtitles because my vocabulary isn't that great. I think the younger you start, the easier it is. I never started until I was a senior citizen. But I love the language and plan to hang in there. Thanks for the info.

Sara:

Rumor has it that La Gata isn't slated to start until September. They really haven't said when that one will be on. You are right they have been advertising Hasta and La Malquerida for awhile now. Hasta, according to the promos starts August 18th at nine pm and La Malquerida on August 25th at ten pm.

I know a lot of people don't want to watch Victoria Ruffo, but I have a little tale for you. I didn't much like her either, until I watched La Madrastra. Sure she cried in that one, but not all the time. The other thing is Christian Meier is in Malquerida as is Adriane Diaz, and they are both good. Also in the cast is Fabian Robles, Manny de la Parra, Alberto Estrella, Sabine Moussier, Nora Salinas, Africa Zavala, Osvaldo de Leon, and Arturo Peniche. Now that is a cast! It's a rancho but it too looks interesting. At least tune in before deciding jus' sayin'.

Jose Angel:

I don't agree. I think Robo, extension and all, gave us lots of red herrings and lots of info, really! It didn't really sag, so to speak, maybe two episodes but not much at all. These writers were very clever I must say. I too have heard Hasta is doing great in Mexico. I think it will do well here.

I think HEFDM is doing ok. It's not getting the numbers that LQLVMR left but it's not flailing like La Tempestad. It has simmilar numbers as MCET in a more coveted timeslot but it's barely starting here and it can grow (LQLVMR started with the bad numbers La Tempestad left and ended with excellent numbers).

Madelaine and Jose Ángel:

I think after asking for the extension of LQLVMR to ensure a more successful start after the World Cup that Nicandro has to prove himself here.

Poor Angelli Nesma had to start a month or so earlier than planned due to Salvador Mejía's failure and end a couple of months later due to the fears from Nicandro Díaz and the network.

I don't watch La Malquerida but from the snippets I've seen I have yet to see Victoria Ruffo cry (doesn't mean it hasn't happened, just that I haven't seen it).

I'm surprised Univision shows no interest in bringing El Color de la Pasión to the US. It is doing very well here, better than La Malquerida, in fact. I guess they expect better results over there due to stars like Ruffo and Meier.

Jarocha

An interesting article about Televisa's constant "refritos". In reading about La Malquerida, it sounded an awful lot like Abrázame Muy Fuerte, but this writer says it won't be a copy of another novela:

http://confesionesgataseriefila.blogspot.com/2014/05/la-malquerida-el-renacimiento-de-la.html

I watched the second episode. I might try to recap this one. It's right up my alley. I want to do Tuesdays. CYNDERELLA

It's not just Victoria Ruffo's crying that I can't stand. It's ... Victoria Ruffo! And Christian Meier, to me, is just meh. What put it over the top for me not to watch, though, is ... Sabine Moussier? Ah, h - e - double toothpicks ... NOOO!

Cynderella:

Please email me, I am the Team Leader for Hasta. Thanks.

Anon 1:36:

I get it. I just happen to like Christian Meier. He's a hunk and a half.

Jarocha:

Thank you so much for the info on Hasta in Mexico. I did remember hearing Robo wasn't so great starting out, but it did pick up. I think Hasta will too. From what I've read about La Marquerida, the hacienda part isn't the only element to the story, there is another element too. I think people will be surprised. I won't say anymore so as not to spoil it.

Jarocha
I've had the same thoughts about La Malquerida and El Color de Pasión. I often check the Mexican ratings and El Color seems to beat LA Malquerida most of the time I check. I'll probably still check it out though.

I'm watching Dulce Amor the original Argentinian version and I find it much better.
Ive only seen the first episode of Hasta and the 10th and I can say its good but not as good as Dulce.
Surprisingly I really like Marjorie as the good girl Sofia. She's actually really good even though in the trailer she looked hilarious.
I'm always keeping my eyes open to see if she can actually work the good gal role and right now shes doing a fabulous job.
Pedro Fernandez really isnt my type and he definitely cant compete with Sebastian Estevanez. I cannot see why Marjorie's character would fall for him from the first moment. It should be vice versa cause it pains my soul to see how beautiful she is.
I really like Olivera and Alvarez but they're roles are really bad here. Natacha is turned into Alexa a spoiled brat who just wants to shop and has a RIDICULOUS spanish accent (at first I thought someone was dubbing) when in reality she was spoiled yes but you could really relate to her and feel her pain.
Julian is turned into Armando a doormat for his wife. In Dulce you can see from the first episodes that theyre marriage really isnt at its best and no matter how hard they try it aint gonna work.
In Hasta Olivera's character doesn't seem that unhappy with Irma and she isn't the nicest person but she ain't bad either.
Olivera just doesn't capture that hoodlum 'i woke up like this' attitude Julian has. He's way too nice for that.
Also agreeing on Alvarez' eye makeup..it makes her look 7 years older than she's supposed to be.
Well this was long but Hasta will probably be pretty good and worth watching but i'll stick with Dulce. For now.

I'm on the MCET team and one novela to re-cap is enough for me, I don't like Rufo, mostly because of the crying, although I did love her in "Vivo por Elena" and "Pobre nina rica" both super old novelas.

I don't see anything I want to watch in Univisions line-up, I know it will be a cold day in hell before I watch La Gata, and the other two novelas don't do anything for me. I think I'll stic to MCET and the Food network this fall.

I think i will give it a try,the show might not suck as it appears to be.After all you are judging without even seeing the first episode. Also i am stoked on anything regarding Evora,Gil or Olivera. And i also just adore Mariana Soane .And also Miss Ferreti Strikes again:)

Also its funny that Olivia Bucio and Cesar Evora are being casted as a couple today. I wonder if the secret is " I no longer have a death insurance, the Mortgage is on the house!"

This seems like a fun trip out of Robo,i mean Robo was a great novela but it got way too dark ,to the point that it got silly..I still love it for the acting and dialogue though.

"again "not "Today" * ..

Eli:

The Food Network? I do love that channel, I am such a foodie. I don't blame you. If you get a chance though, do drop in and take a gander.

Demetrios:

I am glad you will be joining us. I think this one will be a hoot.

Yes, the Food Network, I do love me some Chopped! Mads- I'll try but fall time is always busy for me because my Lakers come back (hopefully they wont suck as much this year!)

I probably won't get tied into this one. Only a couple of actors I care much about and several I don't especially like.

Also, hubbie is starting treatment this week for a serious illness and I may need more time for support, household duties, etc.

Probably same deal with La Malquerida--actors I don't like outweigh the few I do. I'll just keep watching MCET, hoping the cuteness doesn't slide over into annoyance.

I'll take a look at this to see if it catches my interest.

I like the cast especially Diego Olivera and Mariana Seoane.

I've never seen Marjorie De Sousa as a good girl before so it will be interesting seeing her in this role.

I like Pedro Fernandez. It will be fun seeing him as a race

I love the idea of having a character who is a spoiled brat with a cheap Spanish accent. It sounds like fun.

I also love the idea of the chocolate factory. They should have used the word chocolate in the title.

*I like Pedro Fernandez. It will be fun seeing him as a race car driver.

Thank you. This wasn't BDO/AR anymore, Robó went to a new direction and it was filled with pointless filler.

La Paloma:

I am so sorry to hear about your hubby, sending you many prayers for your hubby and hugs to you.

Maurico:

I am glad you will be joining us for Hasta. Good to see you here too.

Madelaine,
I've sent you an e-mail about this one.

La Paloma, hugs and prayers for you and your hubby. We are all here for you. :)

xIntperuvian:

I got your email and sent you a reply and thanks : )

Thanks, Madelaine and Xlntperuvian for your kind wishes. The outlook with treatment is usually good, so we just have to give it a try.

I don't know if anyone is still reading these comments, but I just saw a promo with the Lucas character and I think the Mexican Lucas is going to be better than the Chilean Lucas ;-)

How shallow to not watch a show because the lead actor isn't hot. Did you ever think this may be a story with substance? I understand why Silvia Navarro opted for butt implants, Angelique Boyer enhanced her bust with implants and had surgical procedures done to change the shape of her nose, it is understandable why Souza chose to get implants as well. It is because of us! The judgmental and shallow viewers. I am going to give this novela a try. I may like it, I may not but I love Souza's talent as an actress and her sweet sultry voice.
