Lo Que La Vida Me Robo 196 - A Mixed Bag - Ding-Dong! We Think The Witch Is Dead but Pedro Makes the Marquis de Sade Proud--14 August, 2014

Robo 196

Private Hospital In Aguazul, Campeche State, Mexico
Several years in the future

Dimitrio Mendoza, his sister Montserrat and her husband Alejandro Almonte are at the bedside of their friend, Victor. Victor, whose personality is normally vapid, bland and insipid, is today showing signs of life, as he indignantly delivers the following news about Graciela Mendoza;

“That woman is not sick! She is not paralyzed, All of us were fooled by her. She got up from her wheelchair to let that MONSTER Pedro and his goons into your house. She shot me!” He jabs a nod at Montserrat and Alejandro.

Montserrat Mendoza appeared shocked as she murmurs,

“My own mother! She led that rat bastard to my children!”

Dimitrio Mendoza’s reaction to the information is much stronger—he is enraged. He rushes out of the room and runs into his ex-wife Josefina in the hospital lobby. Josefina tells him that Pedro Medina has also kidnapped Amalia. Dimitrio stares at her and says,

“It was all a (confidence) trick. It is all a lie. Graciela is Pedro’s accomplice.”

Josefina looks on stunned as Dimitrio mutters with self-loathing,

“I was fooled—another time.”

Alejandro and Montserrat run by them, making their way out of the building. Dimitrio joins them but turns back at the last minute.

“Josefina, call Graciela. Tell her that Victor is dead.” Josefina agrees and makes the call.

Victor’s Hospital Room

Nadia and Victor attempt to console one another.

“That is unfair, my love. Surely Alejandro and Dimitrio will find the children—and our daughter. Forgive me, my love! I beg you, forgive me!” says the patient.

Nadia assures her husband that she has nothing to forgive. It is not his fault. But Pedro Medina has their daughter, Victoria. She feels like she is going crazy. Victor wants to get out of the hospital and kill the bastard Pedro Medina with his own hands. But Nadia says no, he is not a killer.

Almonte Mansion

The telephone sounds. Rosario answers on the first ring. It is Josefina, who tells her that Ale and Montse are on their way to the house with news. Right now Josefina needs a word with Doña Graciela. Rosario hands the phone over to Gracie.

Josefina tells Graciela that Victor just died. Gracie fake-cries and looks shocked. But no viewers are fooled by Graciela this time—we remember her prayers in yesterday’s Capitulo. She prayed that Victor would die.

Graciela asks if victor spoke to them before he passed. Josefina lies to her and says no.

“Your children are on their way.”

Graciela opines that the ways of God are inscrutable. She tells Fina that she will be waiting for her children with open arms. She sends Fina a little hug as well.

Graciela gives Rosario and Carlota the news that Victor did not survive. All are distraught. Poor Nadia, the women intone. She doesn’t know where her daughter is and now her husband is dead.

Graciela the Queen hypocrite wishes that that poor man, Victor, may find peace in God’s way.

Nadia Cries To Josefina

Nadia is devastated with worry for her daughter, Victoria.  She is terrified that Pedro Medina will hurt the children. She wishes Adolfo were with her. Josefina is so sorry.

Nadia continues, she wanted to put an end to it. Her brother Adolfo was the one who shot Pedro. But Pedro escaped, Josefina notes. Who helped Pedro escape? Nadia signed deeply.

“Fue Victor,” she declares.

“Victor?” Josefina is shocked.

Pedro could have died, but Victor helped him, says Nadia. Victor is a good man, says Josefina. Clearly in that moment Victor thought he was doing the correct thing. It would not have been easy to have Pedro’s death on his conscience.

Nadia says that when her brother confessed the truth, there was much sadness in his words. But Fina replies that it was too late. As Padre Anselmo said, Adolfo had to make an end to it all.

Nadia is still enraged at Dimitrio’s actions. Adolfo could have gone to jail—but Dimitrio killed him! He shot him twice!

“Nadia, listen to me. I am not trying to justify (his behavior) but in that moment, Adolfo let Dimitrio believe he would shoot him. Dimitrio was defending his own life. It was only after Adolfo was dead that we learned he has disarmed the gun. Our Adolfito was looking for his own death.” Josefina has tears in her eyes, but we know that she tells the truth.

A Horrible Scene At the Almonte Mansion

Alejandro, Montserrat and Dimitrio burst into the house. Dimitrio takes 1-2-3-4-5 steps, in a direct line across the living room and over the coffee table.

Graciela cries out,

“Dimitrio, what is going on?”

Her son grabs the handles of the wheelchair and tips her out of the chair and on to the floor.

“Get up!” Dimitrio screams at his mother. “Get UP!”

Graciela cries that she cannot get up. Montserrat stomps over to her mother.

“Are you sure you cannot get up?” she asks.

“Of course not!” snaps Graciela.

Montserrat screams at her mother,

“Then explain to us; HOW were you able to get up from that chair and open the door for Pedro Medina so he could take my children? Your grandchildren, Mother!”

“Are you certain?” breathes Rosario.

“Yes, Mama. This woman let Pedro in so he could take Victoria!”

Alejandro now kneels in front of Graciela and roughly grabs her arms. “WHERE ARE MY CHILDREN? WHERE IS VICTORIA?” Alejandro screams at Graciela. She whimpers that she does not know.

She wants to get back in her chair. She crawls pathetically toward the wheelchair. She knows that Victor is dead, she trails off as Montserrat screams that Vicot is not dead. I was all part of her brother’s plan so that she could not fool them again. He had Josefina tell Graciela that Victor was dead and had not spoken to anyone.

“I want you to STAND!” Dimitrio shouts at his mother.

Private Hospital, Kevin’s Room

Macario and Dominga are keeping vigil over an unconscious Kevin. The young man opens his eyes.  He immediately apologizes to Macario for not getting the robbers. He swears he will pay for all they took. But, for once, Macario says the right thing. He calls Kevin “hijo” and tells him to get well.

“Hijo?”

“Am I not your Papa?” Macario returns. Kevin smiles.

Almonte Mansion

Graciela tells the group that Pedro hit her and then took the children. Alejandro cries that this is a lie as Gracie begs Dimitrio to help her. Give me a break, says Dim, disgusted.

Montserrat cries to her mother,

“This is not ABOUT you, Mama. This is about the children! They are alone with a sociopath. Pedro will never give Victoria back because he thinks of her as his daughter! They are ALONE! Do you want me to kill myself, like Fabiola? Is that what you want, Mama?”

Gracie says that she does not want Montserrat to suicide. She did this to save Montserrat’ life. She had to keep the promise that Montserrat made to Pedro. Montserrat won’t have it!

It was you who gave the promise, Montserrat. I traded Victoria for your life. I did not think he would also take my grandchildren, I swear to you.

Hospital Waiting Room

Josefina and Nadia hear a commotion as Jose Luis accosts the dirty doctor who helped Graciela with her con. She fooled me, the doctor whines. But Jose Luis arrests him and tells him he will lose his medical license.

JL goes in to see Victor. Victor wants to know if there is any news of the children, his daughter? No, says JL, but do not worry we will find them. Don’t worry says JL. Get well soon. He makes to leave the room but Victor calls him back. He wants to offer an apology to Victor. His lies allowed JL to come under suspicion for helping Pedro escape. JL graciously tells him not to worry about it. For him it is forgotten.

In the hall, Macario is taling to a short little doctor who vaguely resembles a toad. The doctor clarifies—Macario would like the doctor to run paternity tests on Kevin. The doctor agrees. The results should be back in a day.

Almonte Mansion, Again

Montserrat once again begs her mother to tell her where Pedro is. She continues to insist that she does not know.

Dimitrio has had enough of Graciela’s crappy dramatics. He grabs Graciela under the arms and tells her that if she cannot walk and wants to get into her wheelchair it just makes his job easier. He lifts her, dumps her in the chair and wheels around toward the door. Guadencia Jimenez,  you are being taken to Navy HQ for questioning. She sobs as her son tells her that she has the right to remain silent…Alejandro helps him lift the wheelchair up the steps as they head toward to front door.

“Enough!” cries Graciela. She rises from the chair, throws it aside and makes to throw a serious punch at her son. He blocks her blow. She accuses him of being ungrateful. She saved him when he killed a man. Dim retorts that it was an accident. Rosario cries that she could kill Graciela. Graciela holds out her hands.

“Take me where you will,” she says.

She cries out to Montserrat, asking if she can forgive her. Montserrat doesn’t know if she can ever forgive her mother for all the sadness she has created for her. But she is sure that her mother will NEVER live in peace.

Dimitrio’s Car

Dimitrio is driving Graciela into the station for questioning. But she is not done with him yet. She lied to them all. She knows where Pedro is. Dim screeches the car to a halt.

“Where is he?”

“I am the only one who can help you find the kids. Months ago Pedro bought a country house, under a false name. If you let me, I will take you there.”

Pedro’s House

Amalia is with all three children at Pedro’s house. She assures them that everything will be OK. Victoria misses her parents. Laurito too. He wants to go home.

Back In The Car

Graciela has Dimitrio pull over at a bridge over a deep canyon. He says, “AND…?” and she says that they are near Pedro’s house.

It is over there, she points. If you turn your view, she points into the dark. Believe me, Dimitrio, she says. She climbs onto a short parapet overlooking the gorge. She keens. In my will, I left everything to you. Perdoname, my love.

“Get down, Graciela,” Dimitrio demands. She ignores him.

“The one truth I told is that I love you with all my heart, my son. With all my heart.”

Graciela throws herself over the edge, falling backward into the abyss. Mama! Screams Dimitrio.
Josefina’s House

A devastated Josefina remembers her courtship with Adolfo. She cries as she recalls the memories. Then she remembers him getting shot and dying in her arms. She begs Adolfo not to leave her.

Almonte Mansion

Dimitrio has called Ale to give him the news about Graciela. Montserrat walks in holding two stuffed toys in her arms. What are you doing with those, asks Ale. They are my children, Montse replies. I cannot give my children embraces. Alejandro has his wife sit down and then he tells her that Graciela threw herself off a cliff. Dimitrio was unable to stop her. There is no way she could have survived the fall. Montserrat weeps. Sorrow is added to sorrow with no relief. She knows what her mother was, but she is dead—and she was still her mother! Ale reminds her that they are still looking for Gracie’s body. Montserrat says she is losing hope that they will find the children.

Dimitro heads to the hospital and tells Nadia the news about his mother. She begs him to help her find the children. Dimitrio promises to help and orders a navy guard to be placed on she and Victor.

Jose Luis goes to the house to tell Montse that he arrested the doctor who helped Graciela with her con.  JL sits down and puts his face in his hands in despair. He has no one he can ‘vent’ to. Rosario comes in and says he can talk to her. she cradles him in her arms.

Hospital

Nadia confronts Dimtrio about him killing her brother. She wants Dimi to admit that he WANTED to kill Adolfo. Dim reminds her of Adolfo’s horrible deeds. He worked for Medina. He was a murderer and he killed many people! Dim is in the Navy. He was working. He had a duty to kill El Alacran. Nadia doesn’t buy it. She reminds Dim that he shot her brother, twice. She says that in her mind, Dim is just as bad as the Scorpion. Dimitrio tells her that one of the two of them is very wrong. He walks away.

Finita’s Dream

Finita has a dream. Adolfo comes to her. She was the best gift of his life, he tells her. She cries that she cannot do anything without him. He disagrees. He was never good enough for her. He was lying to her the whole time. She feels so all alone. Adolfo says that if she wants to know what He wants—he wants he rot be happy. He wants her to find real love with a man who loves and respects her. She asks his pardon but he says she is not at fault. He was an error in her life. She cannot permit her experience with him to color her life. She must forget him.

Almonte Mansion

Nadia and Montserrat embrace and comfort one another. It has been two months and they have not had a word about their children.

Chief of Police’s Office

Jose Luis and Ale share their frustration—they have no leads on the whereabouts of the kids. One of JL’s men comes in with the results of an internal investigation in the police department. For some time JL has suspected that Medina had a mole in his organization. Now he knows—it’s Suarez! JL calls Suarez in and he and Alejandro slap the guy around. He admits he works for Pedro and he says he will take them to Pedro if they do exactly as he says.
Next we see Trusty Tundra, in a screaming queue with a bunch of police cars. Sirens are on and lights are flashing. Suarez tells Ale and JL that Pedro told him that he wanted to see Ale alone, without a police escort. Ale stomps Tundra’s accelerator and passes all the cars. He takes a hard left onto a dirt road. The police cars follow but they are stumped when Tundra clears a log and keeps on going up a dirt track. The cars cannot follow.

Suarez tells Ale to stop. Pedro is very near. They get out of the car and see Medina and the two goons in black.

Pedro congratulates Suarez on the very fine job he did today—then he shoots the informant in the heart. His job is over. Ale and JL follow his instructions and get in Pedro’s truck.

In Dimitrio’s office, Victor and Dimitrio receive news that the Navy have located Pedro Medina’s house. They head out.

Meanwhile, at Pedro’s country hideaway in the garden, Amalia cares for children Victoria, Laurito and Romina. The children miss their parents. Pedro and his bad guys come into the garden and grab Romina and Laurito and take them into the house. Amalia sings and tries to comfort terrified Victoria.

Shots ring out. Amalia keeps singing and rocking Victoria. At that moment, uniformed men burst into the graden.

“Dimitrio!” cries Amalia. The Navy has come to save the day! “Papa!” cries Victoria as she spots her dad running across the grass toward her. Victor takes Victoria into his arms and they weep.

Please enjoy this set-up captiulo for tomorrow's Gran Final.

My thanks to all who have walked with us on this journey, but especially to my fellow recappers, Urban Anthropologist, Eli, Gloria, Mads, Julia Rold, and Novela Maven.

This was the best recapping team I have ever worked on and that is really saying something!

May tomorrow see the show's precious children out of harms way.

Best to all,

Elna June

Elna June, thanks for yet another excellent recap. It is hard to believe it is almost over.

It was so great seeing Graciela getting dumped on the floor, finally standing up, and throwing herself off the parapet. I also loved Ale, José Luis and the Tundra off to the rescue.

So, the kids were with Pedro for two months before being found. Poor kids. The creepiest part of the episode was Amelia singing with Victoria somshe wouldn't hear what was going on.

Is it pizza or Mexican on the patio tonight? We are ordering out, right? I have some Rumchata to go along with dessert if anyone is interested. : ). Should be a good one!

Jarifa

This was a wonderful recap Elna! I loved how Graciela got owned by Dimitrio and the others ,it was a fantastic scene ,for me it was the best scene of the night. So finally Pedro killed someone with his own hands rather then using others to do the dirty work. I hated how the goons dragged Romina and Laurito away ,yuck it was so creepy. So Graciela commited suicide eh,i hope she is gone for good though it was too easy for the wretch..
And finally, tommorow i will publish the Synopsis of my Fanmade Telenovela ,Amor como un infierno,it will be viewable on my Blogger account .I wish i could post it here though but i guess i cant:(

Good work, EJ. This program has been quite a challenge at times.

I cheered Dimitrio when he dumped his evil mother out of the wheelchair and a second time when he blocked the slap. She had some damn nerve. Not only for trying to hit him but for any thought that Monserrat would deliver Victoria to Pedro.

She is every bit a monster as he is. With this episode she made it to the top of the Toxic Mothers list (although someone will have to tell us whether she beat out Catalina of Cuna de Lobos). However, she deserves a fate worse than death. Much worse.

More later.

Thank you so much EJ for this great recap as well as all your MANY through the show. Absolute gem as always.

Rosario--earth mother. But for some reason I got chills watching her and JL.

I so wanted Dim to just reach out and slap Gaudy. Anyone else? I realize this was Daniela's big swan song episode (though I want a body--where's the body...) but it's like finger nails on the blackboard when she goes on and on with that clenched teeth whining/crying. To borrow from the Padre "Shut up!" Leave it to her to lay a guilt trip on her son before she launched herself.

I had a little issue when I first saw the angelic looking Adolfo. But then I got around it by thinking this was Fina's subconscious. No way no how should that man appear as someone who has found the heavenly light. Get the fact that was his dying white suit, but the lighting was ,frankly, overdone. I know these writers have always wanted us to side with the man, and he was tragic, but he still killed numerous known characters as lord knows how many more in his years developing his El Alacran reputation. An appearance, sure, but he is no angel.

Again, my heart about broke watching AB last night. Not the character, the actress. When she had to be told her mother was dead and she started with the "my mama is dead" I about lost it. The look on SR's face to me as well said there was more to that scene as well, I felt like that was more his tears for AB than Monse. From what I understand these were the scenes they still had to film after her own mother's death. I can't even imagine all she was still feeling and then doing scenes where children are stolen, her mother dies....well. Bless her and gained a whole new respect for how she handled her show responsibilities and put in such a performance.

HATED the previews. They put that little girl in a CAGE. Really? I don't care if mom is sitting right off set. Just no...I may just turn on towards the end of the show and get the rescue aftermath ( know they will save the kids) and see who survives. Right now, Dim has my priority to live another day.

Daisynjay

Elna June, you have always maintained a standard of excellence in your thoughtfully written, amazing recaps. One of the many things I love is that you always set the right tone which is the essence of these sensational summaries.

It was obvious you respected the grim events by your careful conversation translations and pitch perfect details. A fitting, fabulous finale.

"In the hall, Macario is talking to a short little doctor who vaguely resembles a toad" and "Next we see Trusty Tundra, in a screaming queue with a bunch of police cars" were among my many favorites.

The most moving moment was "Rosario comes in and says he can talk to her. she cradles him in her arms". A protective lioness to be sure, but one whose heart knows no bounds. She comforted JL as she has Dimitrio, suffering souls, utterly alone.

While Dimitrio's"appearance" and words to Fina were sad, I hope it gives her the closure to move on. With everything going on, she has had no time to grieve.

"She wants Dimi to admit that he WANTED to kill Adolfo". I read this several times and it gave me pause. Is Nadia wrong? Dimitrio was certainly angry enough to want to, but I believe in the end he killed as he thought Adolfo would shoot him. He was not relieved, nor satisfied but burnened thereafter.

Count, yes, I think this is the first time we've seen Pedro actually kill someone. Just so much more blood on his hands.

Jarifa, I am going to have to look up Rumchata. I don't know what it is, but it sounds delicious!

I don't believe Graciela is dead. What do you think UA? It just seemed too "easy" and quick an end to such a vile existence.

Daisy, I thought Angelique turned in the performance of a lifetime last night. She had me crying along with her. To have her life so eerily mimic the characters seemed such a cruel twist of fate.

The previews shocked me. I hardly know what to think, but the truth will be revealed tonight.

Elna June, thank you for capturing this devastating, emotional episode so beautifully.

Diana

Ah Elna June--my wonderful writer friend. You have given us so many incredible recaps over the last nine months. Imaginative, often surprising, always creative and enthralling.

Sounds like this was quite an episode (understatement!!!!). I haven't seen it yet because I find watching something like this before going to sleep is truly toxic.

Your recap, though, has given me a little "buffering" so I can watch it with a some preparation.

Loved this observation of yours:

" Sorrow is added to sorrow with no relief. She knows what her mother was, but she is dead—and she was still her mother!"

Your own wisdom and compassion shine through that statement. If I were ever to need a counselor, I would want it to be you, dear Elna June.

'Cause you also have a sense of humor. "Crappy dramatics"!.

Yes, that describes our Graciela to a "T". I rather like how she engineered her own dénouement. I keep hearing that old Frank Sinatra song "I did it MY way" and Graciela did indeed...right up to her chosen end. If you admire consistency of character, she comes out on top in this one.

Great title also, by the way. The combination of Over The Rainbow and Marquis de Sade---what a stew!

Thanks for persevering through this, despite downsizing, moving, and dealing with incapacitating migraines. Our thanks and appreciation are not enough, but they will have to do.

I just want to chime in here and extend a huge thank you to all the recappers: Urban, NM, Julia Rold, Gloria, EJ and Mads. This has been the longest TN I've ever watched and certainly the darkest, but you talented recappers made it not only bearable but a ton of fun.

I truly appreciate the hours you have dedicated to this TN in our behalf. And thanks for the free Spanish lessons!

Again, thank you!

Diana, that is too easy an end. However, I have come to think that the end for villains like her and Pedro would have to be something not permissible in society: Death by slow torture.

I'll have more to say about it tomorrow (or late tonight, if it's posted already) because I've already seen the finale episode.

As to AB having to shoot these scenes so shortly after the death of her real mother is a sad coincidence. However, it happens and actors deal with it in the best way they can, which is to use it in their work. It can be cathartic for them. I'm sure AB was able to take some time after the wrap to rest up for her next one.

Jarifa, along with the food order, I'm laying in the homemade guacamole dip and flipping for the expensive nachos made fresh here at a local place that are beyond wonderful. I say we go all in and enjoy. Oh, and we should warn the patio staff to keep the drinks coming...this finale may be rough.

Daisynjay

Is Nadia related to Montserrat?

Urban, Yes Gracie deserves far more suffering ,she is the ultimate Con Woman,i hope she lives and that she is put into a psychiatric institution /prison and that they ridicule her there and that no one visits her. That would be the best punishment for her.As for Pedro he deserves constant torture until he dies from the pain and till the last bangin frustration on the jailcell is heard.I want him to land in jail and when he gets into a fight and gets injured, he begs the guard to help him but the guard simply laughs and ignores him as the fighting begins again.

Anyway i cannot wait until tommorow so i can begin writing my new fanfic telenovela, Amor Como Un Infierno! :) The first episode will be published on Sunday

Thanks for the excellent recap, Elna June. I had to catch up on the last two episodes and have a few thoughts:

These episodes were a little tough to watch. Even though the majority of the good people of Blue Water are gullible and easy targets, I think the events that unfolded and prolonged suffering are a bit much. Anvils where are you?

Daisynjay - I too had a problem with the scene with angelic Adolfo, until I thought about it as a plot device to once again show how kind-hearted Josefina is. Of course she would feel partly responsible for the creation of El Alacran, even though she was not at fault at all.

On a lighter note: What a Tundra! So heroic! So masculine! So decisive in the face of danger! Sigh...

Estrella

Diana, It is a delightful combo of horchata and rum. Daisynjay, yes , the homemade guacamole and the good nachos sound perfect! Thinking about coconut cream pie for dessert . . .

Jarifa

Elna June, thank you so much for this detailed recap.  It is very much appreciated (as always) especially since my rehearsal ran late last night and I started viewing right before Gracie made her grand exit.  I am so bummed that I missed the confrontation at the Almonte mansion.  I really wanted to see it but reading it was just as good - maybe better.

I thought we were done seeing the beautiful FV (sorry I have a crush) and then Josefina has a dream about Aldofito.  That dream was a little creepy for me.  Adolfo looked good in his white suit but I don't know...  I think I was still expecting to see the blood on his suit.  At least, maybe Josefina will be able to move on and head straight to Dim where she belongs.  He's turned out to be a good man.  He's the best man for her and I think she would be happy with him.  I think Fofito would agree.

So, tonight is the night. Oh, the drama....

Caryn

Elna June:

Thank you so much for this very marvelous recap. I have enjoyed all of your many, insightful recaps throughout this very long TN. It was a pleasure recapping on this team with you.

I loved the wheel chair dump as someone noted yesterday. I really loved that Guady couldn't talk her way out of this one, finally! I wish Dimi had put the cuffs on her. I was not expecting her to throw herself over that little wall. I too wonder if the Witch is really dead!

I can't understand why PBN is so mad at Dimi. PBN knew who her brother was and what he did, why try to guilt trip Dimi by making it seem he was as bad as Addled. Dimi was doing his job. I wish she had been able to see and then she could have seen what happened. She wouldn't be so judgmental then.

I too give AB kudos for these scenes she did right after her real Mother died. She is currently working with SR in a play.

I too didn't like Romina in the cage. It was horrendous to see that. No just no, as DaisynJay said.

I too was wondering about that scene with Addled and Fina. I think it was her way of dealing with all the evil she found that Addled had done. Finally saying goodbye and letting her grief and Addled go. It was sad all the same.

I also didn't like the avances.

I am bringing chili rellanos. I just learned to make them. And how about some Rompope? We loved that on Porque El Amor Manda!

If the "advance" happens, then this must have been the alternate finale shown in Mexico. As they say in TN land, Es el colmo... No puede ser!

Cocounut Cream Pie---Oh my, Jarifa, yes please. My absolute favorite dessert of all time. Only time I even look in the direction of desserts since I'm not a sweet eater is when I see a slice of that. You're my hero!!

"What a Tundra! So heroic! So masculine! So decisive in the face of danger! Sigh..."

Estrella, you kill me! watch, that truck may just get nominated for a Premier award. It's had more screen time than some of the actors.

Daisynjay

Thank you so much for all of your wonderful recaps!!!!

So since my crackpot theory of Maria jumping out of the bushes did not come to pass, I thought of another last night. The reason Gracie's body hasn't been found is because it was eaten by wild dogs. At some point a group of dead dogs will be found poisoned by her poisoned blood!

Dimi throwing Gracie from her chair was awesome! Loved how he walked over furniture to get to her!!

AB must have been having such a difficult time but acting while in personal distress is very cathartic, especially since her scenes are so dramatic. She is able to release so much tension, stress, energy...

Seeing Adolfo telling Fina to forget him, that he was an error in her life made me hurt for him. Even though I know it was said with the best of intentions. I still don't see how Dim and Fina can come together. Her seeing Dim shoot Adolfo will always be there.

I don't blame Nadia for how she feels toward Dimi. He could have only shot once. And it is her brother. No matter what he did, he is always her brother first.

Go Dimitrio!

I wanted to mention that JL once again threw himself in front of Ale when they were confronted by Pedro and his henchmen.

If shots had been fired, he would have been hit. His journey to the imperfect but honorable man he was at the inception is now fulfilled.

I'm really hoping he survives! There's been too much blood shed already.

Diana

EJ- I also have been so impressed with how you gave us amazing recaps week after week, even in the midst of moves, life changes, and crippling migraines. Thank you.

The best scene last night was absolutely Gracie being exposed in front of the whole family and thrown from her wheelchair by Dim-- loved him walking on/over the furniture to get to her. Two months quickly passed after she threw herself over the cliff, so if she is alive, I'm guessing she crippled for real and disfigured, and living in some shack somewhere hiding from the world. That would be a suitable end for her, although she really deserves jail time.

I'm starting to think that not one of the main villains will spend a day in prison. Pedro's the only one left. Not sure how I feel about the justice that has been doled out in this tn.

Carvivlie- I also understand why Nadia lashed out. I just think it was the stress of all of it-- her child, her husband, her brother-- that got to her. I'm sure she will come to accept that Dim did what he had to do with time.

Fina, however, continues to show that she is the most emotionally healthy character in this tn. She is able to let go of resentment and move on. She's always able to see the real truth of a bad situation, where most people would be blinded by emotion. I hope her dream of Adolfo will help her let go of the guilt she was feeling. It wasn't her job to "save" Adolfo. He made his own bad choices and suffered the consequences.

Diana- I too noticed how JL jumped in front of Ale to shield him from Pedro and his henchmen. The previews show that he does it yet again.

Mads, the chiles rellenos have been added to the menu. Homemade even! And, yes, our PEAM rompope!

Jarifa

Dear Elna June,

Thank you for lending your elegant and subtle intelligence to this extended project, despite the chaotic backdrop of your health problems and life changes in the course of this novela. Being on a team with you has been a joy. I always looked forward to reading your wonderful recap with my Friday morning coffee, anxious to see the show through your eyes. You never disappoint!

I particularly loved this paragraph describing Graciela's not quite last stand:

"“Enough!” cries Graciela.
“Take me where you will,” she says."

I admired your economy of expression here:

" Next we see Trusty Tundra..."

You show us that the vehicle is fully integrated as a character -- and allow us to smile -- simply by dropping the definite article, "the."

If it is true that you are what you write, then you are a shining star!

¡Hasta siempre, amiga mía!

Elna June – Great title and recap. I hope you are feeling better and had a good trip. Thanks for sharing your creativity with us. From the poetry to the analysis to witty just-the-facts, your recaps were all a joy to read. My favorite line from today:

Sorrow is added to sorrow with no relief. - that packed a wallop.

I was so depressed watching this episode. Then the Tundra showed up to save the day. Estrella, ITA What a Tundra! So heroic! So masculine! So decisive in the face of danger! Sigh... And it was so cute that Ale and JL were together in the Tundra. But something tells me, Ale will never let JL borrow it.

I don't blame Nadia for how she feels toward Dimi.

Carvivlie, I agree. Dim had said all along that he was going to "kill" El Alacrán, not that he was going to capture him. But of course, Adolfo wanted to die and was Dim’s accomplice in the killing.

I see all the good guys on a separate psychiatrist's couch in the gran finale. What a humongous emotional load that Graciela dumped on Dim and Monse.

I’m bringing chocolate rum cake.

Elna June,

So much praise for this recap and for your work in general. I am so glad that you are feeling better.

You gave so many details and described characters' emotions so realistically.

I guess I wasn't paying close enough attention. I had missed the 2 month time gap, although I did note that Victor seemed to be in fine shape when he sprinted in to pick up Victoria.

I especially liked how you provided the conversation between Josefina and Nadia in detail. It's good to know how Josefina is processing this critical moment in terms of her own future.

It seems to me that the writers are now making a huge deal in retropect about Josefina's
feelings for Adolfool and his
courtship of her. I never really felt the love on her part, and I think the writers did little to promote it. Her love for Dimitrio was always part of the equation.

If this was a way for her to move on, I'm all for it. By all means,
FORGET ADOLFOOL!

Graciela will probably reappear in some grotesquely hideous form.
All I can think of is the ending of "The Monkey's Paw" by W.W. Jacobs where the semi elderly parents might have had an opportunity to confront their deceased son's mangled body with a late night apparition at their front door.

Thanks again to all the recappers and all those in this wonderful community who offer so much insight and wit to each episode.

Elna June, forgot to tell you that my mother's name was Elinore, and many times -- just for the heck of it -- I used to call her Elna, a term of endearment. It is a name I never hear. Very pretty.

Diana,

Yes, I saw that move by JL.
I agree with you completely.

I agree with those who said they really liked seeing Dim jump over the furniture to get to Gracie. I think this act, and dumping her out of the wheelchair, really showed the level of anger Dim had since learning of this new con by Gracie and realizing he had been taken in yet again.

Also, so of you who have commented on AB's acting so soon after the death of her own mother and the gut-wrenching scenes, I am continually amazed by her acting skills (here and in Teresa and Corazon Salvaje) and the high level of acting if all the characters in this dark and long tn.

I don't think there are enough premios or awards to go around for such outstanding acting.

How about awards for all the recappers who have given us consistent food for thought over the past nine months with their witty, fairytale, bullet itemization, etc. recaps. Can't wait until tonight's ending, then a break and back to "Zorro, La Espada y La Rosa" and others on YouTube. Oh, I forgot, and MCET.

bDear Elna June, you have a masterful way with words and your recaps are always an absolute delight. I couldn't wait to start my morning with an Elna June Original. You had me snickering right from the title. "Ding-Dong!" has a special meaning when dealing with the Dingbats of Aguazul, that's for sure.

I love your observations on Trusty Tundra, the macho vehicle that can go where police cars cannot, LOL!!

ITA that the scene of Gaudencia being outed in front of the family was the highlight of the show. It was a LONG time coming and I'm so glad that almost everybody could make it to that party. Throwing herself off the cliff, I think JudyB said it well, she did it her way.

EJ, you have a great way of combining humor and pathos; you must have been exhausted after doing this recap. Gracias amiga, it is much appreciated.

I'll bring Esquites to the pot luck. Haven't we liked that since Gancho?

why do i get the weird feeling that them saying in previews it will be an unexpected ending, we will get a heart transplant and Montse will have both her men in one body?? LOL! yeah i am weird.

I'll do my excellent Southwest Oven Fried Chicken (marinate in equal amounts of Salsa Verde and Recaito for one hour, dredge in plain bread crumbs and adobo; fry in olive oil in oven till crispy on all sides). Good thing this is virtual because my oven is shot right now.

Nadia doesn't yet understand what happened to Adolfo. He never confided in her about it and it is difficult for her to imagine her brother as a criminal.

I very much enjoyed the way the scene between Nadia and Dimitrio was written. She accuses him of going beyond his duty when he fired the second shot. The fact that it was personal makes him no better than el alacrán.

He finally acknowledges that he reacted professionally (as a military officer, he has been trained to shoot to kill when a suspect points a gun at him), but also with personal passion (it wasn't just any criminal, it was the man who murdered the woman he loved and then had the nerve to live in his house and make a play for his sympathy).

Then he says that the same combination of professionalism and personal passion is what is going to allow him to rescue the children, including Nadia's own daughter. If she still thinks that makes him like the Scorpion, then they are on different sides.

Nadia looked as if Dimitrio's words had hit home (or at least that's how I saw it.)

A love triangle turns into a spy spoof. That's what 196 episodes will do for you.

The co-lead actor (Ale) becomes an afterthought, upstaged by Adolfo.

A Toyota Tundra with Texas plates becomes an integral part of the story.

You can't make this stuff up folks.

Thanks for the ride!

Good morning to all:

Thank you for all of your kind comments.

Last night's episode was a doozy, wasn't it? The mansion scene with Guadencia/Graciela was a long time coming, but it rang hollow for me. Graciela has showed us her empty hand before and although it was satisfying to see Graciela tipped on to the floor by her son, the drama of her betrayal was so much less intense than the drama of the peril of the missing children.

Giving that we have been telegraphed that her body is missing, I suppose she must be alive but crippled. This is Absolutely not a spoiler, just a guess based on the injuries one might suffer falling into a deep gorge.)

Angelique Boyer was at her best in those wrenching scenes last night. It was cheesy but oddly effective to have her carrying the children's plushy toys in order to give them a hug.

I am frankly disgusted at the writer's cheap and cheerful use of child imperilment to create the final drama in this over long Novela. Really, people?

The preview with the child in a cage is inexcusable.

There can be no truly happy ending in this TN—a grim determination to get on with it seems like the best the survivors could do. So many losses and betrayals would leave normal humans utterly spent and depressed.

If I could have reached through the screen last night, I would have respectfully asked Father Anselmo to shut up about the children being protected by God. It was a ridiculous thing to say when the kids were obviously in terrible danger.

I kept the recap to 'just the facts' last night, so I hope you can tolerate my delayed reaction and long commentary this morning.

Lo Que La Vida Me Robo has been much closer to a tragedy than a melodrama.

Best to all commenters/bloggers! You are one of the key reasons we recap!

Elna June

EJ: A powerful episode that you recapped to perfection.

Going to get a little spiritual here, but I don’t believe in Hell, so I think Adolfo WAS coming to visit her from the Other Side. He’s probably in a Purgatory type situation and I like to think that the Higher Power gave Adolfo a dispensation to visit Fina and to let her know he’s in a better place and that she deserves to move on and be happy. Fina is carrying around undeserved guilt for not helping Adolfo and for Adolfo’s sins. This was about the Higher Power giving Fina what she needed.

So glad Amelia is all right. Loved that scene with her and Victoria and Demetrio coming to save them and then the Vic and Little Vic reunion.

Re: the previews. Seriously, they put that child in a cage!!! Maybe they showed us previews of one ending and will end up showing us the other one. I’m wondering if a certain part of what happened is reversed for the alt ending.

They didn’t find Gracie’s body? Damn!

Nanette

Thanks, Maven, for adding to and clarifying the interaction between Nadia and Dimitrio. I was too tired at that point to do the conversation justice.

Nadia has a point but her rage is misplaced. Dimitrio did hate and vow to kill 'El Alacran', a faceless monster. He shot to kill, I believe, by instinct and training. The second shot could have been caused by the sheer intensity of the moment.

The real target for Nadia's rage should be her brother. He was no victim—no way, no how. He was a coward and a killer and he manipulated everyone around him with his easy charm. Choosing 'death by cop' was just another way he managed his circumstances. Once he had been outed and shamed, he did not have the courage to either face jail or kill himself. So he allowed the Navy/Police to end his story.

EJ

Though I love Estrella’s description of the Tundra’s participation in last night’s ep, what a hoot. I have to say it made me mad that in the Gran Final (for all intents and purposes) with all the drama going on, they put in an ad for the Tundra.

I laughed out loud when I saw Dimitrio jumping over the furniture to get to Gracie.

I’ll have to rewatch the scenes with Gracie/Mons. I didn’t think about it being filmed right after AB’s mother’s death. I thought she was amazing. In fact, the acting in this TN has been amazing all across the board. Watching the scene again will give it an added depth for me.

Vivi: "I too noticed how JL jumped in front of Ale to shield him from Pedro and his henchmen. The previews show that he does it yet again." I saw the opposite.

EJ: “Lo Que La Vida Me Robo has been much closer to a tragedy than a melodrama. Lo Que La Vida Me Robo has been much closer to a tragedy than a melodrama.”—so very true.

Elna June and other recappers... Thank you so much for your far and beyond, overly entertaining recap work for this long one...
I could tell from the beginning that this would be a very dark tragic version of the original story... so i tried to stay away from watching regularly. However, I came often to catch up on the story and watched bits and pieces to see how Luis Roberto was working JL..
Speaking of JL... I agree with Diana and others, JL with his latest gestures to save Ale and Montse family, has come full circle and has become the honorable man he started off with.

ITA with all of you... about the violence toward the children... I caught both when they ripped the children from Nadia's arms (and I kept looking at Romina who was crying so desperately... i was about to turn the channel by the time it was over...) and then last night when he took Montse's kids from Amelia's arms... and Amelia doing her best so Victoria would not hear the shots or at least would have her comfort ...

the Tundra with Texas plates... yes, that has become the hero of the week, hasn't it?

Nanette- You're right. In the previews Ale returns the favor.

Dear Elna June,

Thanks so much for the splendiferous recap of another excruciating episode-and congratulations on finishing your last recap for this TN! It has been wonderful to be on this recapping team with you and the others, too, and it was especially lovely of you to say we're the best team you've ever worked with.

Everything was in today's recap was vividly described. I particularly loved your passage about the Tundra:

"Next we see Trusty Tundra, in a screaming queue with a bunch of police cars. Sirens are on and lights are flashing. (… ) Ale stomps Tundra’s accelerator and passes all the cars. He takes a hard left onto a dirt road. The police cars follow but they are stumped when Tundra clears a log and keeps on going up a dirt track…

Fantastic! Also the Tundra is pretty much the only character in this TN who consistently receives good treatment, so I'm always relieved to see it again in a scene.

Much of last night's episode didn't make sense to me: why would DIM stage a raid of Pedro's compound without telling J-L? Why would J-L and Ale high-tail it to Pedro's compound without telling DIM? Aren't the marina and the police supposed to be working together to find Pedro?

This behavior (along with Montse's decision to meet Pedro ALONE the other day) is driving me crazy.

Only more more night of this!

Thanks again, dear Elna June!
Julia R.

One thing that gets me is that Gracie pointed out the house where Pedro is staying but it took Dim 2 months to find it? If it was just a ploy by Gracie to get to the place she wanted to commit suicide I wish the writers had let us know. Otherwise, what was the delay?

Nanette and Daisynjay:

Thank you both for commenting. You have quite different but interesting takes on the appearance of Adolfo in Finita's dream.

I tend to see the dream as a manifestation of Fina's higher self coming through her subconscious mind. Josefina was always attracted to rotten men and she seems to have had a bit of a savior complex. Adolfo was an even bigger project than Dimitrio. I would hope that—whatever the cause for Adolfo's manifestation—she could gain peace from accepting that, as he said, he was never good enough for her. He lied to her all the way through their relationship.

EJ

Carvivlie:

I think Graciela was just looking for a convenient place to jump off a cliff. My take was that she knew Pedro had a country house, but she either did not know where it was really located or had no intention of leading Dimitrio to it.

Dimitrio, coming in without backup, would have been smashed like a bug on a windshield by Pedro's army.

EJ

EJ, you are so right about that. Nadia never knew what had really happened to Adolfo. She was still seeing the loving brother who was trying to protect her and Victoria from Pedro.

Way back in the beginning I was so sure that it would be Dimitrio who would betray Monserrat so badly based on his behavior when he and Adolfo came to the ranch. This has been a shock.

EJ, I saw Fina's dream much as you did, though I would express it in different terms. I thought her vision of Adolfo was a personal epiphany that allowed her to acknowledge that the man she thought she had known never really existed. The face he showed her was false. She is now free to move on with her life.

About the house as seen from the cliff -- I also thought it was just a place to jump from. Gaudencia's reference to Pedro's country house, however, revealed that she had been in contact with him before that day.

There was also a line or two about Dim and the others having searched in vain for a house in the general area that Gaudy had indicated.

I think the conversation Dimi had with Nadia shows us just how far he has come, he could have gone down the same road as Adolfo but he saw the light and took a different course, Nadia was way out of line!

Elna June, Thank you for your wonderful recap. I thought the scene with Rosario and JL was the best of the night. She is always there for anyone who needs her.

I am confused about something: Was Gracie's act of family treason, letting Pedro in the door to hand Victoria over to him, her only act of assistance or has Gracie been helping Pedro all along? Was that how she knew he had a hideaway bought under someone else's name?

I loved seeing Adolfo again. Some may think Adolfo was a coward for not going to prison but perhaps in his own mind, prison wasn't punishment enough. He knew in prison el Alacran would always exist. In prison el Alacran still had the capacity to kill. I would like to think that in death Adolfo found release from his anguish over the mistakes he'd made and the harm he had done. He received the forgiveness that he couldn't find in life. I think we finally saw the "true" Adolfo. Loving and kind and honest. Adolfo was happy and wanted the same for Fina. He had found release and returned to make sure Fina was released as well.

And besides, who doesn't want to see tall, dark and handsome with those eyes in a fabulous white suit. :)

Thank you for this fabulous recap! It's all over tonight! Last night's episode was probably my favorite. Dim was practically the hero of the episode.

I too agree that Gracie just wanted to go to that place to jump. At the end of the episode one of men told Dim that they captured one of Pedro's men and that he was willing to tell them where Pedro really is. I don't think Gracie is dead though. It is mentioned that two months has passed since Pedro took the kids.

I'm glad that Fina got some sort of closure to be able to move on from Adolfito. As NM said, it was like an epiphany for her.

I was actually kind of surprised that Ale listened to Suarez and got away from the patrol unit. I too liked to see JL protect Ale when Pedro aimed to kill Suarez. I think there's finally a mutual respect between Ale and JL.

I'm going to miss this TN when it all ends tonight!
--TF

XLNT: I agree, I was very happy to see Adolfo again. I definitely have a talent crush on him!

Eli, I agree that Nadia was out of line, but I thought her behavior toward Dimitri was very realistic. Misplaced blame is very common when someone experiences the kind of grief that Nadia is feeling. She does not know her brother like we do, but, sadly, she is learning. I think your observation about the scene showing how far Dimitrio has come is spot on.

Vivi: I had wondered if Uni might be pulling a fast one and showing the East Coast a different preview than the West Coast :) (just speculation on my part that the alt ending might have the reverse of what I saw in the previews).

EJ: so true I had to say it twice (that's my story and I'm stickin' to it).

i heard a lot of people didnt like the finale in mexico so far it hasnt been bad...but who knows...

@Nanette, I thought I was the only one who saw Ale return the favor so thanks for validating what I saw.
Romy

The "alternate" finale was only being shown on the internet. More to follow tomorrow on that.

Does anyone remember the novela and episode with the greatest number of comments, and how many comments there were?

I think tomorrow night's gran final will break all records.

Also do we know yet how Univision will air the two endings?

Elna June---Thank you, thank you, thank you. What a dark episode, but you brought a smile to my face with your trusty Tundra comment. You're fantastic as are your recaps. Elna, thank God you didn't have a migraine last night, I hope you never have another one. Watching Robo last night almost gave me my first one. What an epi and it isn't even over yet. I don't know if I should say that I can't wait for tonight or not. Children in cages, Ale getting shot, bombs exploding and who knows what else the writers have in store for us?

Sounds like a GREAT patio party is in the works.
Madelaine---Chili rellanos is one of my favorite Mexican foods. Will you please make a few extra as I don't want to miss out? I bet that yours are divine.

WOW! Graciela takes the plunge. I never saw that coming. Because she grew up poor she focused too much of her life on obtaining wealth and riches instead of love for her family. It's too bad that more time wasn't spent with the good padre Anselmo and the ways of the good and righteous.

Floridia---Graciela will probably reappear in some grotesquely hideous form. Yes maybe instead of Maria jumping out of the bushes, it will be Gracie.

Floridia again---My mothers name was Elna and I had never heard that name other than on the Elna sewing machine company. That is until I came to the Caray blog and found Elna June.

More later. the gringo

UA, I share your interpretation of Josefina's vision of Adolfo in that scene... and yes, he looked great in white, but the 'glow' could have been more subtle given his background.

Can I join you guys at the patio party? i can bring guava pastries, flan, coconut sweet rice, or whatever puertorican sweet delicacy you like to sweeten what should be another gawdy dark episode with more casualties.

Urbam,.Nanette, Vivi:
Ok I'm confused. Please respond. Do the previews show JL (no longer MDA) jumping in front of Ale or the other way around? Were the previews for the East Coast different than those for the West Coast?

Urban
Are you saying that in Mexico they only showed the alternate ending (let's say ending #2) on the internet or are you referring to the US?

Anonymous @2:03 which ending are you referring to when you say you heard that the Mexican audience didn't like the ending (are you referring to ending #1 or ending #2).

Totally confused......

Victoria- In this epi JL jumps in front of Ale. In the previews for tonight, Ale gets in front of JL.

The previews i saw showed Ale jumping in front of JL and taking a bullet right smack center of chest... and then JL running and something exploding behind him.

We'll have to wait till after tonight to find out what ending we get, and what the alternative was.

Vivi:
Thanks for the clarification re the jumping. It sounds.like alot of acrobatics. First JL then Ale, next the rabbit!

martaivett, of course you are welcome to the pot luck!! The patio is open to all, especially those who bring guava pastries. I LOVE those!

All:

Thanks again for all the great comments!

I have learned to be careful when prognosticating about previews. The scenes are often cut in such a way as to disguise their real meaning.

I will be joining you all on the Patio. I will wear a lace tablecloth to bring the mind Graciela's early crimes against fashion.

My food offering? I will bring tamales; sweet corn, and savory pork and cheese and chicken. They are scratch-made by a lady down the street from me. I'll consider the wine offering...smile.

A good tamal is pure heaven for the mouth.

EJ

Martaivette:
My Dominican husband use to absolutely love Coconut sweet rice! I haven't thought about that dish in ages. Thanks for the memory.

Victoria Gomez:

Geez, Vivi may remember. I seem to recall some Cuando Me Enamoro capitulos getting nearly 200. Did I make that up? We also had lots of comments for earlier capitulos in La Tempestad and Abismo de Pasion.

EJ

Elna, are these chickens from Padre Anselmo? God bless you then! :) And the wine must be from Fabiola. Also Dont forget the odd tasting lemonade prepeared by BM and the Ale Tacos!

Hey EJ:
The only things I loved about La Tempestad where watching stud guy William Levy (please come back to novelaland!) And the theme song of AF and CA ( never heard a song of hers before), "Hoy Tengo Ganas de Ti".

Sometimes the theme songs are as good as the novela, i.e., ",Nunca te Olividare", "Zorro" (again AF with Beyonce),."Alborada", "Pasion", I could go on and on!

Elna June,
I am coming into this so late in the day I may not have time to comment before the final tonight. So let me just thank you for your commitment to this community and for serving it with the style (and intellect and wit) of a pro!
Many thanks to you and to all of the commenters that make this so much fun!
Rebecca

Elna June, another wonderful recap. So sad this is your last for this show. Loved your image of the Trusty Tundra! I actually liked that JL and Ale were driving it last night to the rescue instead of being in a regular police car. Plus it helped them get over the log and away from the other police cars. I take it they didn't inform Dimi and vice versa of what was going down because they didn't want to lose valuable time. Or perhaps they did talk and decided to split up resources to make it to both locations.

All I know is that I was on the edge of my seat. Crying along with Montse and Nadia over the loss of the children. Good thing they had Amelia with them for those two months, but as a mom of 4, I can only imagine the torture these people were going through at not knowing anything about their little ones.

Which leads to the previews. Daisynjay, Mads, Elna, and Nanette, I couldn't agree with you more on the topic of the kids in the cages with explosives rigged to them! Really writers?! Especially little Romi who doesn't understand anything that is going on and will probably be crying and pointing at her real mom in the distance.

Plus my heart literaly stopped! On my tv, the previews showed Ale returning JL the favor. It's a good thing you didn't watch it last night Judyb. I couldn't fall asleep for a long time, if the previews are not red herrings, I don't see a happy ending here and that would be too much for me. I ended up cathing up on MCET so that I could get the imagery out of my mind.

At least Gaudy got her mask taken off in front of the whole family. Dimi certainly stole the show during that scene. And I'm glad Fina had the dream with Adolfo as well. Hopefully she can release her "undeserved" guilt and move on with Dimi.

All the food sounds delish for tonight! Guess I'll be bringing in some homemade cheese enchiladas for the patio. See you all tonight!

Maricruz

Yes. CME did often get crazy amounts of comments of 200+. We were a chatty bunch! But I think a lot of the really popular tns surpass 200 comments from time to time. I'm thinking Teresa or LQNPA must have done the same.

Oxnard Huero
"You can't make this stuff up."

You are so funny man; you must have a great sense of humor.

Yes this novela has really been off the chart sometimes -- 7-year coma. Get real!

Maricruz:

Home made cheese enchiladas, yum! I do love those.

I love how this is Mexican night on the Patio. Mr Mads and I go out to eat at a very nice family run Mexican restaurant every two weeks or so. I practice my Spanish and so far I've done well : ) They let me know if I've got it wrong.

I have wanted to learn how to make Chili Rellanos for a long time now. It's my favorite Mexican Dish. So Mr. Mads helped me along. He grew me some ancho peppers in the garden. He loves hot peppers, especially the Scotch Bonnets. We grow those too. I can't handle those unless they are in something and only a tiny bit. He eats them raw. I love the anchos just a bit of spice and not too much.

Well, I couldn't resist and just did the best I could to read the comments quickly. So I also saw Ale jump in front of JL and my broadcast said something like "the ending you least expect." Please tell me that after all of this they cannot kill of Ale? Right? That would be totally not ok! They can't, right? And I'm really REALLY hoping that now that JL is the good JL he can live and they can all live happily ever after!

Diana, I'm with you and expect Gracie to appear again, but, like Carvivlie I thought we'd see Maria again and no dice. On the other hand, in THIS case, they made a point out of saying that they never found G's body. So either they are trying to throw us off, or they said that for a reason.

Later!
R

Madelaine, I love chiles rellenos too!!! I haven't quite mastered the art of making them, but everyime my mom comes to Miami to visit me from California, I always have her show me all over again. She always makes a few extra so I can freeze and enjoy once she goes back home :-)

Maricruz

I'm making a list of all the Patio menu items to remind my Dominican husband (who is a retired Food & Beverage General Manager) of all the great food we've missed since moving to the states.

I don't remember what the Salvadorean pastries were called, maybe something like "pupusas"; my husband always stopped on the highway from the beach to order these. He loved them! Unfortunately, we've never found them in Charlotte.

Diana, your idea about Gracie surviving the fall is great. I hadn't thought of that. NOT a spoiler, just having fun with this: So she is maimed by the fall, living in poverty, and has to support herself by...now wait for it...sewing/mending for other people! Bwahahahaaaa!!

So silly but I re-watched the episode and cleared this up:

In the episode, JL jumps in front of Ale when Peddy shoots Suarez.

In the previews, Ale jumps in front of JL and receives a bullet to the chest.

If they kill off Ale (and even the redeemed JL), I hope lots of people complain to Televisa via their website!!!! Did we really spend all this time and energy to see one or both of them killed off at the end?

My understanding is that the alternate ending will only be on the internet. Since historically we get the same ending as Mexico, we are VERY likely to see what was shown there.

Victoria, that is the point I make about it. I know that when they killed off Jose Guadalupe in La Esposa Virgen people were not happy. 70% of the votes on the website said they didn't like this ending. They should know better than to do this now.

How right you are. When I saw the ending of "La Virgen Esposa", about two months ago, I couldn't stand the ending and couldn't sleep right for several nights. That's how mad I was. I am a JS fan, and definitely not a SS fan, but the ending was so terrible after the way SS treated AN in the novela. If Televisa took a vote a year after the novela ended to include those that watched on YouTube, the vote tally probably would have been higher than 70%!

Most of the novelas I'm watching are on YouTube or DailyMotion, so I refuse to watch a novela if I know ahead of time that it has a twisted ending.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't know how you do it. It seems as if you are always there, ready to comment immediately after a post. I appreciate your insight and believe you must be at your computer all day long in order to be so vigilant and attentive!

Gringo,

How intriguing about your mother's name, Elna. Beautiful!

Just dropped in to say that I now feel really guilty for not bringing anything to the Patio Party...but not so guilty that I am going to prepare anything myself.

I will stop at Don Ramon's Cuban restaurant here in West Palm Beach, Florida, and pick up some twice fried, green plantains, Tostones. I prefer them plain, but you could bring along your favorite topping.

At a nearby Cuban bakery, I will pick up some melt in your mouth, tiny pastries in case the other desserts are long gone before I arrive. I hope I'm not duplicating something already mentioned, but the crowd seems to be increasing in any case, so they might be needed.

I'm always chipsanddip girl, so I'll bring some Ruffles, and maybe some hot cheetos.

Victoria, I'm unemployed right now. That will have to change soon.

There have been other novelas with sad or bittersweet endings but LEV's ending bothered me. SS's character was honorable (for the most part) and I was hoping that he would find another woman to love. JS's character was very deeply depressed and needed help he didn't get. I now understand that was the reason for the ending (I saw that series 3x), but it was contrary to what the original author typically did. In fact, my idea would also have been a departure from her norm.

LQNPA was the third version of yet another CBA story. All three versions end differently. I'd love to know which was the most popular.

I was not able to watch this episode, so I am especially grateful for your recap of the angst , Elna June. I also thank you for your faithful recapping over these last ten months...that is a long haul. You are a trooper , EJ. neither snow , nor sleet, nor rain , nor dark of night...nor moving, nor migraines, nor doctor appointments ...kept you from delivering your recaps to us. You are a gem. Thank you for your wit and your charm.

Judyb...I am right there with you . I DO need a counselor after a long and winding road ducking the slings and arrows of my own outrageous telenovela, and I so wish our beloved EJ could be my counselor.

I, too, am wondering if Grrrrrr survived that dive into the ravine. I escaped PEAM because I just could not stand to see Fernando in that insipid role.but I watched the finale. Didn't crazy Veronica survive a similar fall off a cliff and then crashed a wedding all battered and bent ? So..we have a precedent for Grrrrrr holed up somewhere...maybe her old tin shack . Will she return all battered and bent like Veronica ?

Well, folks, I am ready for this show to end....so much pain, evil, and death. I need some happy.

P.s. I will bring my daughter's new signature salad to the party...baby spinach, sliced Bosc pears, dried cranberries, pecans, crumbled blue cheese with a dressing of Lemon juice, oil, a bit of sugar.

I loved JS in LQNPA because his galan role was a departure from the norm. I won't say anything else for those who haven't yet seen this novela.

Here is my email address in case you want to email me the titles of other novelas with terrible (nonromantic) endings.

I'll add a note to the spreadsheet I'm working on with the Caray, Caray recommended novelas.

Elna June, thanks for another superb recap and for your entire season's collected works. The recapping team could probably sell volumes of "Robo Recaps". We could park a Tundra at the edge of the patio and sell books off the tailgate.

Speaking of tailgating, I think I'll bring carnitas to the party tonight. They've been cooking all afternoon (in a vision--Adolfo was there helping!).

Dimitrio convinced me he has the most smarts of the three "good guys." Loved that he was willing to haul his mother off for interrogation.

Gracie's fall was dramatic, but I'm not convinced that was her final farewell. Also expecting her to pop up, even if she's dragging a leg or other body part along.

Elna June's idea to wear a lace tablecloth is genius. I think I'll fluff my hair, load on some jewelry, and fling a tablecloth across my bosom. Hmm--crocheted or cutwork embroidery? It may come in handy if there are copious tears involved.

Urban and Victoria, La Esposa Virgen was the first TN I ever watched. I didn't realize how many TN cliches I was seeing, but I was surprised at the ending.

I did learn to drool over Sergio Sendel in a uniform and on horseback. Also loved him later in Amarte Es Mi Pecado and continued to enjoy him as he moved to the dark side and played only villains.

That is, until now. I give him credit for acting skill in playing Pedro, but the character is despicable and sickening. So, Sr. Sendel, you'll have to win me back.

they are currently showing LQNPA on late night univision.

as far as gawdy nasty endings, havent seen any like Desencuentro (leading lady: Daniela Castro )

i can bring some mayo-ketchup for the tostones... it is just like the name, some mayo and some ketchup. the ratio is to taste... i throw in some crushed garlic into the mix for a little kick...

Right, go down the road to Peddy's
with lights and sirens on so that he knows you're coming. I'm glad the police car got stuck but not the Trusty Tundra.

I also didn't know what to think when Adolfo appeared to Fina in a dream. I kept thinking--HEAVEN???
No it can't be. I'm glad that you guys cleared that one up for me.

Diana---I TOTALLY AGREE with you about Angelique's performance of a lifetime. WOW!!!
I thought back a few nights when margarita/Esme really turned it on
What a great cast in this novela.

Carvivlie---Wild dogs dead after feasting on Gracie. LOL You're too much. More LOL

Vivi---You said it and I didn't realize Nadia's reaction until I read your post. Her brother, her husband, her child--she's been through a lot. It's no wonder that she lashed out.

Is there only one hour for Robo tonight?
the gringo

Vivi: what about Amor Bravio? We loved that one!

Thanks for this excellent recap, Elna June. We have been friends for quite some time now while enjoying and fretting over many TNs. I've always admired your versatile writing skills. You never fail to provide us the essential details while keeping us entertained with your remarkable wit and wisdom presented in clever and often delightfully surprising uniquely original formats. I too hope that you are comfortably settled into your new home... having a reliable source of good tamales is certainly a plus.

I think that I'm most interested in what becomes of Dimitrio tonight. I'm guessing he will end up with Fina but I can't forget that he was such a jerk initially and he has killed two people. He may (by TN criteria) deserve to die. Though no one has agreed with me (with perhaps the exception of Nadia), I think he committed premeditated murder when he shot Adolfo. He vowed to kill El Alacrán and the moment he found out that El Alacrán was Adolfo, a dark murderous look came over his face and he immediately set out to find him with absolutely no intention of arresting him. Technically it was self defense, but he set up a situation in which there was no other outcome possible.

Finally, I'm annoyed that such attention was given to Adolfo last night with fond flashbacks accompanied by romantic music (by the way, what was that lovely song?), and no such tribute was accorded our María (and she never killed anyone other than herself). I don't think she ever even had her own music.

Carlos

It's not Mexican, but I made a pretty good vegan potato salad for the 4th, I could bring. Not the same batch. I'd make a fresh batch.

Carlos

María killed Sandro Narváez.

If you want fond flashbacks, you'll have to make a cameo appearance yourself in Aguazul because...um... you're the only one who was fond of her.

NovelaMaven,

I forgot... and I guess I can't credibly contend that it was self-defense, can I? But I think that we can all agree that he needed killin'.

Carlos

I wonder if Gracie will end up like "The Purple One": first faking paralysis then getting caught faking it then ending up truly paralyzed.

Although I understand Nadia's frustration, I still think Dim made a very good point. I think she will forgive him after all.
--TF

Dimitrio didn't kill Bruno Gamboa; that was an accident. What he did do (under Gracie's direction) was to frame Jose Luis for that "murder."

As for premeditated murder of Adolfo? I don't think so. He wanted to kill the faceless Scorpion, but upon realizing it was Adolfo he took his pistol in case of need. He did try to settle it with fisticuffs. He could have beaten him hard enough to cuff him and arrest him except that Adolfo knocked him down long enough to get his gun back. That necessitated a self-defense on Dimitrio's part.

The dark look was (I think) the anger at himself for having been fooled. He felt like an idiot for that. Who could blame him?

Thanks to all the recappers for their talent and dedication throughout these many months. Although I am a very sporadic commenter, I AM a dedicated recap reader.

As a member of the "Graciela is faking" table, I'll be bringing carne asada tacos (with homemade tortillas) with all the fixin's (cebolla, cilantro, salsa picante, pico de gallo, minced jalapenos and serranos, grated cheese - the works) and Agua de Jamaica.

Naima (bowing down to all the recappers)

UA,

We'll continue to disagree on this point. I think that you're rewriting history. Don't forget, he sent his backup to a different location and he knocked JL unconscious.

As to the fist fight. Adolfo tossed his gun first, Dimitrio still was holding his. He could have arrested him at that point... he didn't. I think that he preferred to kill him with his bare hands.

Adolfo needed killin' and Dimitrio killed him. He passed up opportunities to arrest him.

Carlos

I am not Gracie; I don't rewrite history.

He yielded to the temptation of making this personal. He wanted the satisfaction of pounding the crap out of Adolfo first. He may not have thought the rest of it through and I don't think he had the time.

I would have preferred to see JL arrest him, but considering how Adolfo's mind was going it would probably have ended with him hanging himself in his cell, which would have been too derivative.

EJ, wonderful recap, thank you for all your marvelous recaps all the way through. Loved the comment about the trusty Tundra. You noticed they showed the spinning wheels of the cop cars for contrast.

Estrella, Daisynjay: The angelic Fofito was weird, but you know, he was a lot like angelic Angelica when she visited JL. Kind of plastic and perfect, so I had the same conclusions that these were dream visits.
But Fina was left with that rose.

Where I was the program started early and ended late, had no captions for the first 25 minutes. I didn't see the ending. All I saw was JL and Ale and Suarez approaching Pedro and his men who had really big guns and JL was holding a little tiny gun.

I want guacamole with taquitos and salt on my margarita por favor.

If Nadia knew that Dim had knocked JL unconscious instead of using his help to apprehend Adolfo, I don't think she could handle it.

Wow! Who could have "predicted" that Graciewas pretending and that J.L. Would be the one to arrest the doctor? We have a lot of psychics in here!

I just want to give a very big
Thank you! to all of you recappers for sticking with this for so long.

You made it possible for me, a Spanish-challenged gringo - BTW that word, I heard, comes from some Mexican guys hearing some American guys singing "Green Grow the Lilacs" around the campfire.

This TN was so good at the start, but I stayed with it because I think all of the actors were just terrific. I would like to see them do a more intelligent story sometime. It was hard to deal with the stupidity that got the characters into so much trouble. Nadia and Victor were not really germaine to the plot at all. So sitting through their exchanges was quite challenging - vapid, oh yes! It would be nice to see Sebastian Rulli play a character who is strong and more of a "take charge of the situation" kind of guy. Baby doll, Angelique, was very good, but had no real dialogue - just knew how to arrange her legs - must have been a French finishing school....anyway, they were all wonderful in their own way. I wish there was something that looked coming up - don't see any appealing (at least to me) TNs coming up, but am seriously enjoying Silvia Navarro and Jorge Salinas in Mi Corazon es tuyo. Of course I love her in anything.
Thanks again you wonderful recappers - you made it come to life for me. Best wishes to all.

Daisynjay - We should start an online campaign for the Tundra for a Premier award.

Niecie in MD - I agree. JL is definitely not allowed to drive the magical truck.

Nanette - The over the top advertising has certainly added to the nonsense that is this show.

Carvivlie - I love your crackpot theories!

I have a feeling that I am going to be disappointed tonight. It seems like one hour is not enough to bring the story to a satisfactory conclusion.

Estrella

To my old friend Carlos and my new friend UA:

I offer some thoughts on the death of Adolfo:

Smile. I enter the fray here at my peril, I know, but I trust that the combatants are friendly foes and friends of mine and will take care for this recapper.

I think that the writers muddied the waters of Adolfo's manner of death as they did so many things in this Novela. As Novela Maven noted first, this was a very subversive story, written to leave some doubt about many terrible or questionable acts; Alejandro's rape of Montsserrat, Ale's shooting of JL, Dimitrio's behavior with Josefina, Adolfo's behavior with Josefina, Tomas taking Josefina's fortune, Montserrat's multiple lies, Nadia's affair with Victor, JL's acting out toward Montserrat, Joaquin Arechiga's professed love for his children when he attempted to kill JL at Angelica's wedding, Refu's refusal to accept his wife, Maria's many dark acts, Ale's extended trip with Maria and her consequent fixed belief that he secretly loved her, EZ's possible love for Carlota and his avarice and cowardice, Refu shooting the Lt., and many many more.

The only people to come out of this story with fairly clean hands were the closest thing we had to moral anchors in the story; Padre Anselmo, Josefina, Amalia, Dominga, Rosario and, of course, Angelica. Angelica excepted, each of the others listed was a relatively "good" person but weak, unable to effect change, victimized by circumstances or by life. And Angelica, with her proud spirit and courage had cancer from the moment we first saw her. She was doomed, and one of her last act was to buy Esmeralda a strip club. She did not leave that money in a fund for children with cancer.

You see my point. Dimitrio had sworn to kill the Scorpion with his own hands—and he did. But the way it happened left us with more questions than answers and left Adolfo himself responsible for his own death, in the suicide-by-cop situation where he secretly disarmed his gun.

Food for thought, no?

EJ

If anyone knew, the finale was split in half. Part 2 was shown tonight.

Nanette- Yes, our chatty group on Amor Bravio also topped the 200 comments mark from time to time.

Got home too late to watch any of the shows, so looking forward to watching and reading tomorrow.

Elna June, I liked your summary of the moral ambiguities of so many of our characters.

I'm just happy that Romina finally gets to be with her real mommy!

Thanks, La Paloma.are you recapping anywhere now?

EJ

Note:

I removed a couple of comments from the thread that were spoilers and or ill mannered. These were posted 1.5 hours before the show aired on the West Coast.

This blog has a firm "No Spoilers" rule. No exceptions and especially on a Final night!

Elna June

EJ: as a West Coaster, I thank you!!!

Nanette, I saw the Gran Final last night. They should've tied up more loose ends with at least 2 hours.

1 hour isn't going to resolve anything.

Elna June, you asked if I was recapping anywhere. No, CI was my one and only foray into the recapping realm.
I don't intend to watch the two new TNs. Too many actors in my blah or don't like categories compared to the like/love categories. I also need more time to tend to family stuff, hub's health issues.
Thanks for asking. Hope your health, life goes smoothly.

Wow I just read that SR and AB are in love and are having a blast. After watching them here in LQLVMR and in Teresa, their chemistry is undeniable.

I do miss watching this novela.
