Lo Que La Vida Me Robo 196 - A Mixed Bag - Ding-Dong! We Think The Witch Is Dead but Pedro Makes the Marquis de Sade Proud--14 August, 2014
Labels: robo
Please enjoy this set-up captiulo for tomorrow's Gran Final.
My thanks to all who have walked with us on this journey, but especially to my fellow recappers, Urban Anthropologist, Eli, Gloria, Mads, Julia Rold, and Novela Maven.
This was the best recapping team I have ever worked on and that is really saying something!
May tomorrow see the show's precious children out of harms way.
Best to all,
Elna June
It was so great seeing Graciela getting dumped on the floor, finally standing up, and throwing herself off the parapet. I also loved Ale, José Luis and the Tundra off to the rescue.
So, the kids were with Pedro for two months before being found. Poor kids. The creepiest part of the episode was Amelia singing with Victoria somshe wouldn't hear what was going on.
Is it pizza or Mexican on the patio tonight? We are ordering out, right? I have some Rumchata to go along with dessert if anyone is interested. : ). Should be a good one!
Jarifa
And finally, tommorow i will publish the Synopsis of my Fanmade Telenovela ,Amor como un infierno,it will be viewable on my Blogger account .I wish i could post it here though but i guess i cant:(
I cheered Dimitrio when he dumped his evil mother out of the wheelchair and a second time when he blocked the slap. She had some damn nerve. Not only for trying to hit him but for any thought that Monserrat would deliver Victoria to Pedro.
She is every bit a monster as he is. With this episode she made it to the top of the Toxic Mothers list (although someone will have to tell us whether she beat out Catalina of Cuna de Lobos). However, she deserves a fate worse than death. Much worse.
More later.
Rosario--earth mother. But for some reason I got chills watching her and JL.
I so wanted Dim to just reach out and slap Gaudy. Anyone else? I realize this was Daniela's big swan song episode (though I want a body--where's the body...) but it's like finger nails on the blackboard when she goes on and on with that clenched teeth whining/crying. To borrow from the Padre "Shut up!" Leave it to her to lay a guilt trip on her son before she launched herself.
I had a little issue when I first saw the angelic looking Adolfo. But then I got around it by thinking this was Fina's subconscious. No way no how should that man appear as someone who has found the heavenly light. Get the fact that was his dying white suit, but the lighting was ,frankly, overdone. I know these writers have always wanted us to side with the man, and he was tragic, but he still killed numerous known characters as lord knows how many more in his years developing his El Alacran reputation. An appearance, sure, but he is no angel.
Again, my heart about broke watching AB last night. Not the character, the actress. When she had to be told her mother was dead and she started with the "my mama is dead" I about lost it. The look on SR's face to me as well said there was more to that scene as well, I felt like that was more his tears for AB than Monse. From what I understand these were the scenes they still had to film after her own mother's death. I can't even imagine all she was still feeling and then doing scenes where children are stolen, her mother dies....well. Bless her and gained a whole new respect for how she handled her show responsibilities and put in such a performance.
HATED the previews. They put that little girl in a CAGE. Really? I don't care if mom is sitting right off set. Just no...I may just turn on towards the end of the show and get the rescue aftermath ( know they will save the kids) and see who survives. Right now, Dim has my priority to live another day.
Daisynjay
It was obvious you respected the grim events by your careful conversation translations and pitch perfect details. A fitting, fabulous finale.
"In the hall, Macario is talking to a short little doctor who vaguely resembles a toad" and "Next we see Trusty Tundra, in a screaming queue with a bunch of police cars" were among my many favorites.
The most moving moment was "Rosario comes in and says he can talk to her. she cradles him in her arms". A protective lioness to be sure, but one whose heart knows no bounds. She comforted JL as she has Dimitrio, suffering souls, utterly alone.
While Dimitrio's"appearance" and words to Fina were sad, I hope it gives her the closure to move on. With everything going on, she has had no time to grieve.
"She wants Dimi to admit that he WANTED to kill Adolfo". I read this several times and it gave me pause. Is Nadia wrong? Dimitrio was certainly angry enough to want to, but I believe in the end he killed as he thought Adolfo would shoot him. He was not relieved, nor satisfied but burnened thereafter.
Count, yes, I think this is the first time we've seen Pedro actually kill someone. Just so much more blood on his hands.
Jarifa, I am going to have to look up Rumchata. I don't know what it is, but it sounds delicious!
I don't believe Graciela is dead. What do you think UA? It just seemed too "easy" and quick an end to such a vile existence.
Daisy, I thought Angelique turned in the performance of a lifetime last night. She had me crying along with her. To have her life so eerily mimic the characters seemed such a cruel twist of fate.
The previews shocked me. I hardly know what to think, but the truth will be revealed tonight.
Elna June, thank you for capturing this devastating, emotional episode so beautifully.
Diana
Sounds like this was quite an episode (understatement!!!!). I haven't seen it yet because I find watching something like this before going to sleep is truly toxic.
Your recap, though, has given me a little "buffering" so I can watch it with a some preparation.
Loved this observation of yours:
" Sorrow is added to sorrow with no relief. She knows what her mother was, but she is dead—and she was still her mother!"
Your own wisdom and compassion shine through that statement. If I were ever to need a counselor, I would want it to be you, dear Elna June.
'Cause you also have a sense of humor. "Crappy dramatics"!.
Yes, that describes our Graciela to a "T". I rather like how she engineered her own dénouement. I keep hearing that old Frank Sinatra song "I did it MY way" and Graciela did indeed...right up to her chosen end. If you admire consistency of character, she comes out on top in this one.
Great title also, by the way. The combination of Over The Rainbow and Marquis de Sade---what a stew!
Thanks for persevering through this, despite downsizing, moving, and dealing with incapacitating migraines. Our thanks and appreciation are not enough, but they will have to do.
I truly appreciate the hours you have dedicated to this TN in our behalf. And thanks for the free Spanish lessons!
Again, thank you!
I'll have more to say about it tomorrow (or late tonight, if it's posted already) because I've already seen the finale episode.
As to AB having to shoot these scenes so shortly after the death of her real mother is a sad coincidence. However, it happens and actors deal with it in the best way they can, which is to use it in their work. It can be cathartic for them. I'm sure AB was able to take some time after the wrap to rest up for her next one.
Daisynjay
Anyway i cannot wait until tommorow so i can begin writing my new fanfic telenovela, Amor Como Un Infierno! :) The first episode will be published on Sunday
These episodes were a little tough to watch. Even though the majority of the good people of Blue Water are gullible and easy targets, I think the events that unfolded and prolonged suffering are a bit much. Anvils where are you?
Daisynjay - I too had a problem with the scene with angelic Adolfo, until I thought about it as a plot device to once again show how kind-hearted Josefina is. Of course she would feel partly responsible for the creation of El Alacran, even though she was not at fault at all.
On a lighter note: What a Tundra! So heroic! So masculine! So decisive in the face of danger! Sigh...
Estrella
Jarifa
I thought we were done seeing the beautiful FV (sorry I have a crush) and then Josefina has a dream about Aldofito. That dream was a little creepy for me. Adolfo looked good in his white suit but I don't know... I think I was still expecting to see the blood on his suit. At least, maybe Josefina will be able to move on and head straight to Dim where she belongs. He's turned out to be a good man. He's the best man for her and I think she would be happy with him. I think Fofito would agree.
So, tonight is the night. Oh, the drama....
Caryn
Thank you so much for this very marvelous recap. I have enjoyed all of your many, insightful recaps throughout this very long TN. It was a pleasure recapping on this team with you.
I loved the wheel chair dump as someone noted yesterday. I really loved that Guady couldn't talk her way out of this one, finally! I wish Dimi had put the cuffs on her. I was not expecting her to throw herself over that little wall. I too wonder if the Witch is really dead!
I can't understand why PBN is so mad at Dimi. PBN knew who her brother was and what he did, why try to guilt trip Dimi by making it seem he was as bad as Addled. Dimi was doing his job. I wish she had been able to see and then she could have seen what happened. She wouldn't be so judgmental then.
I too give AB kudos for these scenes she did right after her real Mother died. She is currently working with SR in a play.
I too didn't like Romina in the cage. It was horrendous to see that. No just no, as DaisynJay said.
I too was wondering about that scene with Addled and Fina. I think it was her way of dealing with all the evil she found that Addled had done. Finally saying goodbye and letting her grief and Addled go. It was sad all the same.
I also didn't like the avances.
I am bringing chili rellanos. I just learned to make them. And how about some Rompope? We loved that on Porque El Amor Manda!
"What a Tundra! So heroic! So masculine! So decisive in the face of danger! Sigh..."
Estrella, you kill me! watch, that truck may just get nominated for a Premier award. It's had more screen time than some of the actors.
Daisynjay
So since my crackpot theory of Maria jumping out of the bushes did not come to pass, I thought of another last night. The reason Gracie's body hasn't been found is because it was eaten by wild dogs. At some point a group of dead dogs will be found poisoned by her poisoned blood!
Dimi throwing Gracie from her chair was awesome! Loved how he walked over furniture to get to her!!
AB must have been having such a difficult time but acting while in personal distress is very cathartic, especially since her scenes are so dramatic. She is able to release so much tension, stress, energy...
Seeing Adolfo telling Fina to forget him, that he was an error in her life made me hurt for him. Even though I know it was said with the best of intentions. I still don't see how Dim and Fina can come together. Her seeing Dim shoot Adolfo will always be there.
I don't blame Nadia for how she feels toward Dimi. He could have only shot once. And it is her brother. No matter what he did, he is always her brother first.
If shots had been fired, he would have been hit. His journey to the imperfect but honorable man he was at the inception is now fulfilled.
I'm really hoping he survives! There's been too much blood shed already.
Diana
The best scene last night was absolutely Gracie being exposed in front of the whole family and thrown from her wheelchair by Dim-- loved him walking on/over the furniture to get to her. Two months quickly passed after she threw herself over the cliff, so if she is alive, I'm guessing she crippled for real and disfigured, and living in some shack somewhere hiding from the world. That would be a suitable end for her, although she really deserves jail time.
I'm starting to think that not one of the main villains will spend a day in prison. Pedro's the only one left. Not sure how I feel about the justice that has been doled out in this tn.
Carvivlie- I also understand why Nadia lashed out. I just think it was the stress of all of it-- her child, her husband, her brother-- that got to her. I'm sure she will come to accept that Dim did what he had to do with time.
Fina, however, continues to show that she is the most emotionally healthy character in this tn. She is able to let go of resentment and move on. She's always able to see the real truth of a bad situation, where most people would be blinded by emotion. I hope her dream of Adolfo will help her let go of the guilt she was feeling. It wasn't her job to "save" Adolfo. He made his own bad choices and suffered the consequences.
Jarifa
Thank you for lending your elegant and subtle intelligence to this extended project, despite the chaotic backdrop of your health problems and life changes in the course of this novela. Being on a team with you has been a joy. I always looked forward to reading your wonderful recap with my Friday morning coffee, anxious to see the show through your eyes. You never disappoint!
I particularly loved this paragraph describing Graciela's not quite last stand:
"“Enough!” cries Graciela. She rises from the chair, throws it aside and makes to throw a serious punch at her son. He blocks her blow. She accuses him of being ungrateful. She saved him when he killed a man. Dim retorts that it was an accident. Rosario cries that she could kill Graciela. Graciela holds out her hands.
“Take me where you will,” she says."
I admired your economy of expression here:
" Next we see Trusty Tundra..."
You show us that the vehicle is fully integrated as a character -- and allow us to smile -- simply by dropping the definite article, "the."
If it is true that you are what you write, then you are a shining star!
¡Hasta siempre, amiga mía!
Sorrow is added to sorrow with no relief. - that packed a wallop.
I was so depressed watching this episode. Then the Tundra showed up to save the day. Estrella, ITA What a Tundra! So heroic! So masculine! So decisive in the face of danger! Sigh... And it was so cute that Ale and JL were together in the Tundra. But something tells me, Ale will never let JL borrow it.
I don't blame Nadia for how she feels toward Dimi.
Carvivlie, I agree. Dim had said all along that he was going to "kill" El Alacrán, not that he was going to capture him. But of course, Adolfo wanted to die and was Dim’s accomplice in the killing.
I see all the good guys on a separate psychiatrist's couch in the gran finale. What a humongous emotional load that Graciela dumped on Dim and Monse.
I’m bringing chocolate rum cake.
So much praise for this recap and for your work in general. I am so glad that you are feeling better.
You gave so many details and described characters' emotions so realistically.
I guess I wasn't paying close enough attention. I had missed the 2 month time gap, although I did note that Victor seemed to be in fine shape when he sprinted in to pick up Victoria.
I especially liked how you provided the conversation between Josefina and Nadia in detail. It's good to know how Josefina is processing this critical moment in terms of her own future.
It seems to me that the writers are now making a huge deal in retropect about Josefina's
feelings for Adolfool and his
courtship of her. I never really felt the love on her part, and I think the writers did little to promote it. Her love for Dimitrio was always part of the equation.
If this was a way for her to move on, I'm all for it. By all means,
FORGET ADOLFOOL!
Graciela will probably reappear in some grotesquely hideous form.
All I can think of is the ending of "The Monkey's Paw" by W.W. Jacobs where the semi elderly parents might have had an opportunity to confront their deceased son's mangled body with a late night apparition at their front door.
Thanks again to all the recappers and all those in this wonderful community who offer so much insight and wit to each episode.
Elna June, forgot to tell you that my mother's name was Elinore, and many times -- just for the heck of it -- I used to call her Elna, a term of endearment. It is a name I never hear. Very pretty.
Also, so of you who have commented on AB's acting so soon after the death of her own mother and the gut-wrenching scenes, I am continually amazed by her acting skills (here and in Teresa and Corazon Salvaje) and the high level of acting if all the characters in this dark and long tn.
I don't think there are enough premios or awards to go around for such outstanding acting.
How about awards for all the recappers who have given us consistent food for thought over the past nine months with their witty, fairytale, bullet itemization, etc. recaps. Can't wait until tonight's ending, then a break and back to "Zorro, La Espada y La Rosa" and others on YouTube. Oh, I forgot, and MCET.
I love your observations on Trusty Tundra, the macho vehicle that can go where police cars cannot, LOL!!
ITA that the scene of Gaudencia being outed in front of the family was the highlight of the show. It was a LONG time coming and I'm so glad that almost everybody could make it to that party. Throwing herself off the cliff, I think JudyB said it well, she did it her way.
EJ, you have a great way of combining humor and pathos; you must have been exhausted after doing this recap. Gracias amiga, it is much appreciated.
I'll bring Esquites to the pot luck. Haven't we liked that since Gancho?
Nadia doesn't yet understand what happened to Adolfo. He never confided in her about it and it is difficult for her to imagine her brother as a criminal.
He finally acknowledges that he reacted professionally (as a military officer, he has been trained to shoot to kill when a suspect points a gun at him), but also with personal passion (it wasn't just any criminal, it was the man who murdered the woman he loved and then had the nerve to live in his house and make a play for his sympathy).
Then he says that the same combination of professionalism and personal passion is what is going to allow him to rescue the children, including Nadia's own daughter. If she still thinks that makes him like the Scorpion, then they are on different sides.
Nadia looked as if Dimitrio's words had hit home (or at least that's how I saw it.)
The co-lead actor (Ale) becomes an afterthought, upstaged by Adolfo.
A Toyota Tundra with Texas plates becomes an integral part of the story.
You can't make this stuff up folks.
Thanks for the ride!
Thank you for all of your kind comments.
Last night's episode was a doozy, wasn't it? The mansion scene with Guadencia/Graciela was a long time coming, but it rang hollow for me. Graciela has showed us her empty hand before and although it was satisfying to see Graciela tipped on to the floor by her son, the drama of her betrayal was so much less intense than the drama of the peril of the missing children.
Giving that we have been telegraphed that her body is missing, I suppose she must be alive but crippled. This is Absolutely not a spoiler, just a guess based on the injuries one might suffer falling into a deep gorge.)
Angelique Boyer was at her best in those wrenching scenes last night. It was cheesy but oddly effective to have her carrying the children's plushy toys in order to give them a hug.
I am frankly disgusted at the writer's cheap and cheerful use of child imperilment to create the final drama in this over long Novela. Really, people?
The preview with the child in a cage is inexcusable.
There can be no truly happy ending in this TN—a grim determination to get on with it seems like the best the survivors could do. So many losses and betrayals would leave normal humans utterly spent and depressed.
If I could have reached through the screen last night, I would have respectfully asked Father Anselmo to shut up about the children being protected by God. It was a ridiculous thing to say when the kids were obviously in terrible danger.
I kept the recap to 'just the facts' last night, so I hope you can tolerate my delayed reaction and long commentary this morning.
Lo Que La Vida Me Robo has been much closer to a tragedy than a melodrama.
Best to all commenters/bloggers! You are one of the key reasons we recap!
Elna June
Going to get a little spiritual here, but I don’t believe in Hell, so I think Adolfo WAS coming to visit her from the Other Side. He’s probably in a Purgatory type situation and I like to think that the Higher Power gave Adolfo a dispensation to visit Fina and to let her know he’s in a better place and that she deserves to move on and be happy. Fina is carrying around undeserved guilt for not helping Adolfo and for Adolfo’s sins. This was about the Higher Power giving Fina what she needed.
So glad Amelia is all right. Loved that scene with her and Victoria and Demetrio coming to save them and then the Vic and Little Vic reunion.
Re: the previews. Seriously, they put that child in a cage!!! Maybe they showed us previews of one ending and will end up showing us the other one. I’m wondering if a certain part of what happened is reversed for the alt ending.
They didn’t find Gracie’s body? Damn!
Nanette
Nadia has a point but her rage is misplaced. Dimitrio did hate and vow to kill 'El Alacran', a faceless monster. He shot to kill, I believe, by instinct and training. The second shot could have been caused by the sheer intensity of the moment.
The real target for Nadia's rage should be her brother. He was no victim—no way, no how. He was a coward and a killer and he manipulated everyone around him with his easy charm. Choosing 'death by cop' was just another way he managed his circumstances. Once he had been outed and shamed, he did not have the courage to either face jail or kill himself. So he allowed the Navy/Police to end his story.
EJ
I laughed out loud when I saw Dimitrio jumping over the furniture to get to Gracie.
I’ll have to rewatch the scenes with Gracie/Mons. I didn’t think about it being filmed right after AB’s mother’s death. I thought she was amazing. In fact, the acting in this TN has been amazing all across the board. Watching the scene again will give it an added depth for me.
Vivi: "I too noticed how JL jumped in front of Ale to shield him from Pedro and his henchmen. The previews show that he does it yet again." I saw the opposite.
EJ: “Lo Que La Vida Me Robo has been much closer to a tragedy than a melodrama. Lo Que La Vida Me Robo has been much closer to a tragedy than a melodrama.”—so very true.
I could tell from the beginning that this would be a very dark tragic version of the original story... so i tried to stay away from watching regularly. However, I came often to catch up on the story and watched bits and pieces to see how Luis Roberto was working JL..
Speaking of JL... I agree with Diana and others, JL with his latest gestures to save Ale and Montse family, has come full circle and has become the honorable man he started off with.
ITA with all of you... about the violence toward the children... I caught both when they ripped the children from Nadia's arms (and I kept looking at Romina who was crying so desperately... i was about to turn the channel by the time it was over...) and then last night when he took Montse's kids from Amelia's arms... and Amelia doing her best so Victoria would not hear the shots or at least would have her comfort ...
the Tundra with Texas plates... yes, that has become the hero of the week, hasn't it?
Thanks so much for the splendiferous recap of another excruciating episode-and congratulations on finishing your last recap for this TN! It has been wonderful to be on this recapping team with you and the others, too, and it was especially lovely of you to say we're the best team you've ever worked with.
Everything was in today's recap was vividly described. I particularly loved your passage about the Tundra:
"Next we see Trusty Tundra, in a screaming queue with a bunch of police cars. Sirens are on and lights are flashing. (… ) Ale stomps Tundra’s accelerator and passes all the cars. He takes a hard left onto a dirt road. The police cars follow but they are stumped when Tundra clears a log and keeps on going up a dirt track…
Fantastic! Also the Tundra is pretty much the only character in this TN who consistently receives good treatment, so I'm always relieved to see it again in a scene.
Much of last night's episode didn't make sense to me: why would DIM stage a raid of Pedro's compound without telling J-L? Why would J-L and Ale high-tail it to Pedro's compound without telling DIM? Aren't the marina and the police supposed to be working together to find Pedro?
This behavior (along with Montse's decision to meet Pedro ALONE the other day) is driving me crazy.
Only more more night of this!
Thanks again, dear Elna June!
Julia R.
Thank you both for commenting. You have quite different but interesting takes on the appearance of Adolfo in Finita's dream.
I tend to see the dream as a manifestation of Fina's higher self coming through her subconscious mind. Josefina was always attracted to rotten men and she seems to have had a bit of a savior complex. Adolfo was an even bigger project than Dimitrio. I would hope that—whatever the cause for Adolfo's manifestation—she could gain peace from accepting that, as he said, he was never good enough for her. He lied to her all the way through their relationship.
EJ
I think Graciela was just looking for a convenient place to jump off a cliff. My take was that she knew Pedro had a country house, but she either did not know where it was really located or had no intention of leading Dimitrio to it.
Dimitrio, coming in without backup, would have been smashed like a bug on a windshield by Pedro's army.
EJ
Way back in the beginning I was so sure that it would be Dimitrio who would betray Monserrat so badly based on his behavior when he and Adolfo came to the ranch. This has been a shock.
About the house as seen from the cliff -- I also thought it was just a place to jump from. Gaudencia's reference to Pedro's country house, however, revealed that she had been in contact with him before that day.
There was also a line or two about Dim and the others having searched in vain for a house in the general area that Gaudy had indicated.
I am confused about something: Was Gracie's act of family treason, letting Pedro in the door to hand Victoria over to him, her only act of assistance or has Gracie been helping Pedro all along? Was that how she knew he had a hideaway bought under someone else's name?
I loved seeing Adolfo again. Some may think Adolfo was a coward for not going to prison but perhaps in his own mind, prison wasn't punishment enough. He knew in prison el Alacran would always exist. In prison el Alacran still had the capacity to kill. I would like to think that in death Adolfo found release from his anguish over the mistakes he'd made and the harm he had done. He received the forgiveness that he couldn't find in life. I think we finally saw the "true" Adolfo. Loving and kind and honest. Adolfo was happy and wanted the same for Fina. He had found release and returned to make sure Fina was released as well.
And besides, who doesn't want to see tall, dark and handsome with those eyes in a fabulous white suit. :)
I too agree that Gracie just wanted to go to that place to jump. At the end of the episode one of men told Dim that they captured one of Pedro's men and that he was willing to tell them where Pedro really is. I don't think Gracie is dead though. It is mentioned that two months has passed since Pedro took the kids.
I'm glad that Fina got some sort of closure to be able to move on from Adolfito. As NM said, it was like an epiphany for her.
I was actually kind of surprised that Ale listened to Suarez and got away from the patrol unit. I too liked to see JL protect Ale when Pedro aimed to kill Suarez. I think there's finally a mutual respect between Ale and JL.
I'm going to miss this TN when it all ends tonight!
--TF
Romy
I think tomorrow night's gran final will break all records.
Also do we know yet how Univision will air the two endings?
Sounds like a GREAT patio party is in the works.
Madelaine---Chili rellanos is one of my favorite Mexican foods. Will you please make a few extra as I don't want to miss out? I bet that yours are divine.
WOW! Graciela takes the plunge. I never saw that coming. Because she grew up poor she focused too much of her life on obtaining wealth and riches instead of love for her family. It's too bad that more time wasn't spent with the good padre Anselmo and the ways of the good and righteous.
Floridia---Graciela will probably reappear in some grotesquely hideous form. Yes maybe instead of Maria jumping out of the bushes, it will be Gracie.
Floridia again---My mothers name was Elna and I had never heard that name other than on the Elna sewing machine company. That is until I came to the Caray blog and found Elna June.
More later. the gringo
Can I join you guys at the patio party? i can bring guava pastries, flan, coconut sweet rice, or whatever puertorican sweet delicacy you like to sweeten what should be another gawdy dark episode with more casualties.
Ok I'm confused. Please respond. Do the previews show JL (no longer MDA) jumping in front of Ale or the other way around? Were the previews for the East Coast different than those for the West Coast?
Urban
Are you saying that in Mexico they only showed the alternate ending (let's say ending #2) on the internet or are you referring to the US?
Anonymous @2:03 which ending are you referring to when you say you heard that the Mexican audience didn't like the ending (are you referring to ending #1 or ending #2).
Totally confused......
Thanks for the clarification re the jumping. It sounds.like alot of acrobatics. First JL then Ale, next the rabbit!
Thanks again for all the great comments!
I have learned to be careful when prognosticating about previews. The scenes are often cut in such a way as to disguise their real meaning.
I will be joining you all on the Patio. I will wear a lace tablecloth to bring the mind Graciela's early crimes against fashion.
My food offering? I will bring tamales; sweet corn, and savory pork and cheese and chicken. They are scratch-made by a lady down the street from me. I'll consider the wine offering...smile.
A good tamal is pure heaven for the mouth.
EJ
My Dominican husband use to absolutely love Coconut sweet rice! I haven't thought about that dish in ages. Thanks for the memory.
Geez, Vivi may remember. I seem to recall some Cuando Me Enamoro capitulos getting nearly 200. Did I make that up? We also had lots of comments for earlier capitulos in La Tempestad and Abismo de Pasion.
EJ
The only things I loved about La Tempestad where watching stud guy William Levy (please come back to novelaland!) And the theme song of AF and CA ( never heard a song of hers before), "Hoy Tengo Ganas de Ti".
Sometimes the theme songs are as good as the novela, i.e., ",Nunca te Olividare", "Zorro" (again AF with Beyonce),."Alborada", "Pasion", I could go on and on!
I am coming into this so late in the day I may not have time to comment before the final tonight. So let me just thank you for your commitment to this community and for serving it with the style (and intellect and wit) of a pro!
Many thanks to you and to all of the commenters that make this so much fun!
Rebecca
All I know is that I was on the edge of my seat. Crying along with Montse and Nadia over the loss of the children. Good thing they had Amelia with them for those two months, but as a mom of 4, I can only imagine the torture these people were going through at not knowing anything about their little ones.
Which leads to the previews. Daisynjay, Mads, Elna, and Nanette, I couldn't agree with you more on the topic of the kids in the cages with explosives rigged to them! Really writers?! Especially little Romi who doesn't understand anything that is going on and will probably be crying and pointing at her real mom in the distance.
Plus my heart literaly stopped! On my tv, the previews showed Ale returning JL the favor. It's a good thing you didn't watch it last night Judyb. I couldn't fall asleep for a long time, if the previews are not red herrings, I don't see a happy ending here and that would be too much for me. I ended up cathing up on MCET so that I could get the imagery out of my mind.
At least Gaudy got her mask taken off in front of the whole family. Dimi certainly stole the show during that scene. And I'm glad Fina had the dream with Adolfo as well. Hopefully she can release her "undeserved" guilt and move on with Dimi.
All the food sounds delish for tonight! Guess I'll be bringing in some homemade cheese enchiladas for the patio. See you all tonight!
Maricruz
"You can't make this stuff up."
You are so funny man; you must have a great sense of humor.
Yes this novela has really been off the chart sometimes -- 7-year coma. Get real!
Home made cheese enchiladas, yum! I do love those.
I love how this is Mexican night on the Patio. Mr Mads and I go out to eat at a very nice family run Mexican restaurant every two weeks or so. I practice my Spanish and so far I've done well : ) They let me know if I've got it wrong.
I have wanted to learn how to make Chili Rellanos for a long time now. It's my favorite Mexican Dish. So Mr. Mads helped me along. He grew me some ancho peppers in the garden. He loves hot peppers, especially the Scotch Bonnets. We grow those too. I can't handle those unless they are in something and only a tiny bit. He eats them raw. I love the anchos just a bit of spice and not too much.
Diana, I'm with you and expect Gracie to appear again, but, like Carvivlie I thought we'd see Maria again and no dice. On the other hand, in THIS case, they made a point out of saying that they never found G's body. So either they are trying to throw us off, or they said that for a reason.
Later!

I don't remember what the Salvadorean pastries were called, maybe something like "pupusas"; my husband always stopped on the highway from the beach to order these. He loved them! Unfortunately, we've never found them in Charlotte.
In the episode, JL jumps in front of Ale when Peddy shoots Suarez.
In the previews, Ale jumps in front of JL and receives a bullet to the chest.
If they kill off Ale (and even the redeemed JL), I hope lots of people complain to Televisa via their website!!!! Did we really spend all this time and energy to see one or both of them killed off at the end?
Victoria, that is the point I make about it. I know that when they killed off Jose Guadalupe in La Esposa Virgen people were not happy. 70% of the votes on the website said they didn't like this ending. They should know better than to do this now.
How right you are. When I saw the ending of "La Virgen Esposa", about two months ago, I couldn't stand the ending and couldn't sleep right for several nights. That's how mad I was. I am a JS fan, and definitely not a SS fan, but the ending was so terrible after the way SS treated AN in the novela. If Televisa took a vote a year after the novela ended to include those that watched on YouTube, the vote tally probably would have been higher than 70%!
Most of the novelas I'm watching are on YouTube or DailyMotion, so I refuse to watch a novela if I know ahead of time that it has a twisted ending.
Thanks for the feedback. I don't know how you do it. It seems as if you are always there, ready to comment immediately after a post. I appreciate your insight and believe you must be at your computer all day long in order to be so vigilant and attentive!
How intriguing about your mother's name, Elna. Beautiful!
Just dropped in to say that I now feel really guilty for not bringing anything to the Patio Party...but not so guilty that I am going to prepare anything myself.
I will stop at Don Ramon's Cuban restaurant here in West Palm Beach, Florida, and pick up some twice fried, green plantains, Tostones. I prefer them plain, but you could bring along your favorite topping.
At a nearby Cuban bakery, I will pick up some melt in your mouth, tiny pastries in case the other desserts are long gone before I arrive. I hope I'm not duplicating something already mentioned, but the crowd seems to be increasing in any case, so they might be needed.
There have been other novelas with sad or bittersweet endings but LEV's ending bothered me. SS's character was honorable (for the most part) and I was hoping that he would find another woman to love. JS's character was very deeply depressed and needed help he didn't get. I now understand that was the reason for the ending (I saw that series 3x), but it was contrary to what the original author typically did. In fact, my idea would also have been a departure from her norm.
LQNPA was the third version of yet another CBA story. All three versions end differently. I'd love to know which was the most popular.
Judyb...I am right there with you . I DO need a counselor after a long and winding road ducking the slings and arrows of my own outrageous telenovela, and I so wish our beloved EJ could be my counselor.
I, too, am wondering if Grrrrrr survived that dive into the ravine. I escaped PEAM because I just could not stand to see Fernando in that insipid role.but I watched the finale. Didn't crazy Veronica survive a similar fall off a cliff and then crashed a wedding all battered and bent ? So..we have a precedent for Grrrrrr holed up somewhere...maybe her old tin shack . Will she return all battered and bent like Veronica ?
Well, folks, I am ready for this show to end....so much pain, evil, and death. I need some happy.
P.s. I will bring my daughter's new signature salad to the party...baby spinach, sliced Bosc pears, dried cranberries, pecans, crumbled blue cheese with a dressing of Lemon juice, oil, a bit of sugar.
I loved JS in LQNPA because his galan role was a departure from the norm. I won't say anything else for those who haven't yet seen this novela.
Here is my email address in case you want to email me the titles of other novelas with terrible (nonromantic) endings.

I'll add a note to the spreadsheet I'm working on with the Caray, Caray recommended novelas.
Speaking of tailgating, I think I'll bring carnitas to the party tonight. They've been cooking all afternoon (in a vision--Adolfo was there helping!).
Dimitrio convinced me he has the most smarts of the three "good guys." Loved that he was willing to haul his mother off for interrogation.
Gracie's fall was dramatic, but I'm not convinced that was her final farewell. Also expecting her to pop up, even if she's dragging a leg or other body part along.
Elna June's idea to wear a lace tablecloth is genius. I think I'll fluff my hair, load on some jewelry, and fling a tablecloth across my bosom. Hmm--crocheted or cutwork embroidery? It may come in handy if there are copious tears involved.
I did learn to drool over Sergio Sendel in a uniform and on horseback. Also loved him later in Amarte Es Mi Pecado and continued to enjoy him as he moved to the dark side and played only villains.
That is, until now. I give him credit for acting skill in playing Pedro, but the character is despicable and sickening. So, Sr. Sendel, you'll have to win me back.
as far as gawdy nasty endings, havent seen any like Desencuentro (leading lady: Daniela Castro )
i can bring some mayo-ketchup for the tostones... it is just like the name, some mayo and some ketchup. the ratio is to taste... i throw in some crushed garlic into the mix for a little kick...
with lights and sirens on so that he knows you're coming. I'm glad the police car got stuck but not the Trusty Tundra.
I also didn't know what to think when Adolfo appeared to Fina in a dream. I kept thinking--HEAVEN???
No it can't be. I'm glad that you guys cleared that one up for me.
Diana---I TOTALLY AGREE with you about Angelique's performance of a lifetime. WOW!!!
I thought back a few nights when margarita/Esme really turned it on
What a great cast in this novela.
Carvivlie---Wild dogs dead after feasting on Gracie. LOL You're too much. More LOL
Vivi---You said it and I didn't realize Nadia's reaction until I read your post. Her brother, her husband, her child--she's been through a lot. It's no wonder that she lashed out.
Is there only one hour for Robo tonight?
the gringo
I think that I'm most interested in what becomes of Dimitrio tonight. I'm guessing he will end up with Fina but I can't forget that he was such a jerk initially and he has killed two people. He may (by TN criteria) deserve to die. Though no one has agreed with me (with perhaps the exception of Nadia), I think he committed premeditated murder when he shot Adolfo. He vowed to kill El Alacrán and the moment he found out that El Alacrán was Adolfo, a dark murderous look came over his face and he immediately set out to find him with absolutely no intention of arresting him. Technically it was self defense, but he set up a situation in which there was no other outcome possible.
Finally, I'm annoyed that such attention was given to Adolfo last night with fond flashbacks accompanied by romantic music (by the way, what was that lovely song?), and no such tribute was accorded our María (and she never killed anyone other than herself). I don't think she ever even had her own music.
Carlos
María killed Sandro Narváez.
If you want fond flashbacks, you'll have to make a cameo appearance yourself in Aguazul because...um... you're the only one who was fond of her.
I forgot... and I guess I can't credibly contend that it was self-defense, can I? But I think that we can all agree that he needed killin'.
Carlos
Although I understand Nadia's frustration, I still think Dim made a very good point. I think she will forgive him after all.
--TF
As for premeditated murder of Adolfo? I don't think so. He wanted to kill the faceless Scorpion, but upon realizing it was Adolfo he took his pistol in case of need. He did try to settle it with fisticuffs. He could have beaten him hard enough to cuff him and arrest him except that Adolfo knocked him down long enough to get his gun back. That necessitated a self-defense on Dimitrio's part.
The dark look was (I think) the anger at himself for having been fooled. He felt like an idiot for that. Who could blame him?
As a member of the "Graciela is faking" table, I'll be bringing carne asada tacos (with homemade tortillas) with all the fixin's (cebolla, cilantro, salsa picante, pico de gallo, minced jalapenos and serranos, grated cheese - the works) and Agua de Jamaica.
Naima (bowing down to all the recappers)
We'll continue to disagree on this point. I think that you're rewriting history. Don't forget, he sent his backup to a different location and he knocked JL unconscious.
As to the fist fight. Adolfo tossed his gun first, Dimitrio still was holding his. He could have arrested him at that point... he didn't. I think that he preferred to kill him with his bare hands.
Adolfo needed killin' and Dimitrio killed him. He passed up opportunities to arrest him.
Carlos
He yielded to the temptation of making this personal. He wanted the satisfaction of pounding the crap out of Adolfo first. He may not have thought the rest of it through and I don't think he had the time.
I would have preferred to see JL arrest him, but considering how Adolfo's mind was going it would probably have ended with him hanging himself in his cell, which would have been too derivative.
Estrella, Daisynjay: The angelic Fofito was weird, but you know, he was a lot like angelic Angelica when she visited JL. Kind of plastic and perfect, so I had the same conclusions that these were dream visits.
But Fina was left with that rose.
Where I was the program started early and ended late, had no captions for the first 25 minutes. I didn't see the ending. All I saw was JL and Ale and Suarez approaching Pedro and his men who had really big guns and JL was holding a little tiny gun.
I want guacamole with taquitos and salt on my margarita por favor.
Thank you! to all of you recappers for sticking with this for so long.
You made it possible for me, a Spanish-challenged gringo - BTW that word, I heard, comes from some Mexican guys hearing some American guys singing "Green Grow the Lilacs" around the campfire.
This TN was so good at the start, but I stayed with it because I think all of the actors were just terrific. I would like to see them do a more intelligent story sometime. It was hard to deal with the stupidity that got the characters into so much trouble. Nadia and Victor were not really germaine to the plot at all. So sitting through their exchanges was quite challenging - vapid, oh yes! It would be nice to see Sebastian Rulli play a character who is strong and more of a "take charge of the situation" kind of guy. Baby doll, Angelique, was very good, but had no real dialogue - just knew how to arrange her legs - must have been a French finishing school....anyway, they were all wonderful in their own way. I wish there was something that looked coming up - don't see any appealing (at least to me) TNs coming up, but am seriously enjoying Silvia Navarro and Jorge Salinas in Mi Corazon es tuyo. Of course I love her in anything.
Thanks again you wonderful recappers - you made it come to life for me. Best wishes to all.
Niecie in MD - I agree. JL is definitely not allowed to drive the magical truck.
Nanette - The over the top advertising has certainly added to the nonsense that is this show.
Carvivlie - I love your crackpot theories!
I have a feeling that I am going to be disappointed tonight. It seems like one hour is not enough to bring the story to a satisfactory conclusion.
Estrella
I offer some thoughts on the death of Adolfo:
Smile. I enter the fray here at my peril, I know, but I trust that the combatants are friendly foes and friends of mine and will take care for this recapper.
I think that the writers muddied the waters of Adolfo's manner of death as they did so many things in this Novela. As Novela Maven noted first, this was a very subversive story, written to leave some doubt about many terrible or questionable acts; Alejandro's rape of Montsserrat, Ale's shooting of JL, Dimitrio's behavior with Josefina, Adolfo's behavior with Josefina, Tomas taking Josefina's fortune, Montserrat's multiple lies, Nadia's affair with Victor, JL's acting out toward Montserrat, Joaquin Arechiga's professed love for his children when he attempted to kill JL at Angelica's wedding, Refu's refusal to accept his wife, Maria's many dark acts, Ale's extended trip with Maria and her consequent fixed belief that he secretly loved her, EZ's possible love for Carlota and his avarice and cowardice, Refu shooting the Lt., and many many more.
The only people to come out of this story with fairly clean hands were the closest thing we had to moral anchors in the story; Padre Anselmo, Josefina, Amalia, Dominga, Rosario and, of course, Angelica. Angelica excepted, each of the others listed was a relatively "good" person but weak, unable to effect change, victimized by circumstances or by life. And Angelica, with her proud spirit and courage had cancer from the moment we first saw her. She was doomed, and one of her last act was to buy Esmeralda a strip club. She did not leave that money in a fund for children with cancer.
You see my point. Dimitrio had sworn to kill the Scorpion with his own hands—and he did. But the way it happened left us with more questions than answers and left Adolfo himself responsible for his own death, in the suicide-by-cop situation where he secretly disarmed his gun.
Food for thought, no?
EJ
Got home too late to watch any of the shows, so looking forward to watching and reading tomorrow.
I removed a couple of comments from the thread that were spoilers and or ill mannered. These were posted 1.5 hours before the show aired on the West Coast.
This blog has a firm "No Spoilers" rule. No exceptions and especially on a Final night!
Elna June
1 hour isn't going to resolve anything.
I don't intend to watch the two new TNs. Too many actors in my blah or don't like categories compared to the like/love categories. I also need more time to tend to family stuff, hub's health issues.
Thanks for asking. Hope your health, life goes smoothly.
I do miss watching this novela.
