Capitulo
16: Two Men, Two Women, and the Same Problem
Chicago
Club: Back in the dressing room, Ana tells Johnny that in
retrospect, his reluctance to have children was the right thing. She
now feels she doesn't want to have children with him. He goes into
immediate denial, saying she must be joking. She sure isn't because
she reveals that she doesn't love him. Smart girl. He looks like
he's going to cry like a little boy. Sorry, dude; this lady deserves
a man.
Lascuráin
Mansion: Nicolás and Bruno are discussing the former's love
life. Old Nic wants to rent an apartment in which to live with
Jennifer, but Bruno thinks he's rushing things. He tries to get his
boss' dad to think things through from the lady's viewpoint, but
isn't making any headway with this. Nic thinks he needs time away to
think about this stuff and says so just as his son comes down the
stairs. Bruno notices Fernando and asks if he'd like him to prepare
something. Coffee or tea, maybe? Nic wants something “a little
stronger” and Fernando tells Bruno “si” so it looks like time
for a father and son chat. Fernando suggests they go into the
library.
Chicago
Club: Johnny isn't liking this one bit. He demands to know if
she's in love with another man. He backs her toward the wall
demanding to know if she's in love with her rich (other) boss because
since she's been working for him she hasn't wanted to see his hot
self. He doesn't even give her a chance to answer. Jennifer comes
in and stops what looks like a serious fight in the making. She gets
in between them, but Johnny isn't done with his baiting. He thinks
she's changed since working in a mansion. He finally hits a nerve
when he accuses Ana of chasing Fernando's money. [Maybe the man's
just got a better package than you, Johnny.] She refuses to be
insulted and doesn't hesitate to say she won't permit it. He says
several times that he loves her and finally retreats. Jennifer asks
what happened.
León's
Room: Except for Nando, all Fanny's sibs are visiting. They
tell their host that Bruno wouldn't have fit in the taxi. Alex notes
that the room is small; not that of a lion but a rat. Fanny scolds
him for this. Nando had run out of the house and Fanny is a little
worried about him. He's falling asleep at the wrong times. This
can't mean anything good.
Chicago
Club: Ana tells Jennifer what she decided. She doesn't want to
have children with Johnny despite all the time she invested in the
relationship. Jennifer agrees she's made the right decision.
Lascuráin
Mansion: Nicolás and Bruno sit on the couch while Fernando sits
at his desk. Fernando expects complete discretion of this
conversation and Bruno comically promises it. Fernando explains he's
about to make a sexual disclosure. Neither of his listeners is
entirely comfortable with that. However, he tells them that he got
it on with Isabela and it was an impulse. He doesn't feel good about
it. On top of that Fanny found out and that's why she left the
house. “Then there's Ana,” he says. Both older men
simultaneously ask “What about Ana?” Fernando starts explaining
that ever since her arrival he doesn't feel like the same person. He
tells them about dancing with her in the library and kissing her.
Both men smile broadly. They're happy for him!
Chicago
Club: Jennifer is the same kind of happy for Ana. She wants all
the details. Did he declare himself? No, Ana tells her. Well, how
did it feel? She says it felt like a novela scene. [Natch]
Jennifer teases that Ana is in love with Fernando. She had even
predicted it! That seems to be on the mark, but Ana tells her that
there is a slight problem. Fernando said it was all a mistake.
Lascuráin
Mansion: Fernando tells Nicolás and Bruno he had told Ana it
was a mistake. It's too complicated with Ana being the nanny to his
children; he doesn't them to be hurt if things go south. On the other hand Isabela is a woman who has all the right
qualities. She's smart, has initiative, she's his right hand at
work. But Nic isn't convinced, as Ana is his right hand at home.
Bruno asks if he wants to escalate his relationship with Isabela and
Fernando doesn't know. Bruno reminds him he has to think of his
children. Fernando has not seen Isabela connect with his children,
but that's a matter of time, isn't it? Nic tells him he's trying to
make a decision with his head that should be made with the heart.
Bruno agrees.
Chicago
Club: Ana gets a call from Fanny that the six of them are
hanging at León's place and won't be found in bed. She tells her to
sit tight, ends the call, and rushes out to solve this problem.
León's
Room: The kids don't want to
go home. She tells them it's too dangerous for them to do this and
finally convinces the five younger ones to go home. Fanny, however,
plans to stay. León promises to take care of her. Ana escorts the
younger kids out. Fanny admits she misses them. León asks if she's
ready to go back. She doesn't know. León tells her he loves her;
ella tambien. He says her dad is afraid he will break her
heart and he promises he won't. They kiss on that. She admits to
being a virgin. They end up in the horizontal
position.
Lascuráin
Mansion: What looks like
later, Fernando is working in the library at his computer. I'd love
to know why he's still in his suit and tie. Ana sneaks in quietly,
whispering to the kids to keep quiet as she slowly closes the door.
The music and the initial double shot seems to telegraph that this
will not be a successful deception. Ana's boots are such that it
seems impossible she could walk silently in them. She points out the
light under the door to the library as she gets the kids to go
upstairs. Fernando, however, hears something and gets up. One of
the twins drops a toy over the banister. Luz goes to fetch it,
everything stops, and Fernando comes out of the library. He flips on
the light and asks “What is going on here?” Ana hesitates, but
tells the truth. The kids took a cab to visit Fanny at León's
place. He's not happy about this at all. They tell him they miss
their sister. He is clearly worried, but defaults to talking about
“There are rules in this house.”
Bruno
comes down the stairs in his robe and Fernando demands to know why he
didn't notice the kids departure. Fernando goes on about nobody
being observant or respecting his rules. Finally, he tells the kids
that they're going to talk very seriously about this in the morning
and tells them to go to bed. As the others go up Luz turns around
and tells him that they went to see Fanny to try to get her to come
home. [This little girl
certainly knows how to wrap Dad around her little finger.]
Ana
starts to apologize, but Fernando tells her she has the absolute
right to a night off. He tells her they will discuss the children's
punishment later. She tells him he shouldn't punish them for missing
their sister. “But we have rules...” gets him the answer that
they're kids and they're intelligent. He looks slightly defeated.
He then looks at the portrait of his wife, commenting that since her
death the house has no head. She tells him that the children's
action says they are good kids who love their sister. He should be
proud of that. He doesn't answer that and just wishes her good
night. He goes back to the library and she looks at the portrait
before climbing the stairs.
León's
Room: León and Fanny still
have their clothes on. She gets up and goes to the window. She
apologizes that she can't. She doesn't feel right about this. He
tells her not to worry; they won't do anything she doesn't want to
do. They'll wait as long as she wants. He thinks she should
straighten things out with her dad. She agrees, telling him that her
mother was the love of her dad's life so she doesn't get Isabela. He
tries to explain that guys have needs, urges... She doesn't dig that;
he corrects himself that he's different because he has a novia. He
loves only her. All is right for now.
Lascuráin
Mansion: Nando is burning the midnight oil at his computer doing
homework for Ximena, the Isabela Mini-Me. Ana asks him how that's
going. He tells her he's going to a party the next day with Ximena.
She asks him if he thinks Ximena feels the same way about him. She's
hit a nerve somewhere because he tells her he has to finish the job.
She sensibly retreats and he asks her to close the door on her way
out.
The
Next Day
Lascuráin
Mansion: Breakfast looks delicious, but is curiously silent.
Fernando remains standing while delivering his orders. Sebas is to
stop the dance lessons and find another sport. The kid is
disappointed [but we're not] and Bruno interrupts Fernando by
handing him his morning coffee. Ana looks like she's about to fall
asleep and fall over. Fernando then scolds the kids over not
considering the dangers of going out of the house in the middle of
the night. One of the twins pinches the other, Alicia has another
problem with puberty, and Bruno stands near Ana to prop her up in
case she drops off to sleep in her chair. Fernando tells all that
Fanny had really let him have it the other day when they last spoke.
She reminded him that since their mother died he hadn't paid enough
attention to them. That he works too much and doesn't spend enough
time with them. That he needs to communicate more with them. The
kids all want him to spend more time with them and get excited. It
doesn't look like he knows what to do. Nic walks in on this and says
“Now we have communication!”
Private
Eye's Office: Ana sits at the desk while Lucia (?) brings her a
cup of coffee. She jokes about the bags under her eyes and asks
whether there is any news about her mother. She tells Ana not yet
and she should check with her next week. Ana is sure that her mother
is alive and that they will find her.
Isabela's
Apartment: Isabela opens the door and her mother enters. She
obviously wasn't expecting her. Her mother tells her she had to fly
tourist class to get there because of their finances. Isabela tells
her not to say such horrible things. She gets angry when her mother
calls her “Chabelita”. Mama complains about the people in
tourist class “All because you wouldn't buy me a first-class
ticket.” [Dios, mio, will we ever be free of greedy mothers?]
Isabela points out that her salary doesn't pay for her mother's
indulgences. Of course, Mama tells her that her father had
accustomed her to better things. Isabela isn't impressed at her
mother's next comments about a marquess.
Mama
asks her if Fernando has proposed yet. Isabitch tells her “Not
yet.” Mama suggests she ask him. It's a new world now, why not?
She's a little incredulous but Mama tells her “It's that or lose it
all.” Her gesture indicates the really nice abode Isabitch has.
León's
Room: Fanny sits on the bed reading a book. She finally gets up
and opens the door. Fernando is there.
Isabela's
Apartment: Isabimbo tells Mama she did the deed with Fernando.
Mama isn't surprised but doesn't consider this progress; that's easy
enough for any man. After all she's beautiful “like your Mama”
[???] She starts wondering whether Isabitch is pregnant. The
important thing is that Fernando take her seriously. Isabitch gets
her meaning and doesn't look happy. It looks like Mama knows how to
hit her where it hurts.
León's
Room: Fernando comments that the room is smaller than he
thought. Fanny takes this to mean that he thinks this of León. He
doesn't, but he knows that Fanny is used to having more. He tells
her that her sibs disobeyed him to get her to come home. He tells
her that she and her sibs are the most important things in the world
to him. She still refuses to come home. He retreats, telling her
that the only other thing he wants to say is that he loves her with
all his heart. He then exits, closing the door. She starts to cry,
saying she loves him, too.
School:
Nando hands Ximena the term paper. She's pleased, but when she
mentions the party he admits he doesn't have a car. She tells him to
come with Fanny and she'll see him later. He's up for that but she
clearly isn't; like we've seen before the second she walks away she
expresses disgust.
Lascuráin
Mansion: Nic sits down in the living room to enjoy a cognac as
Ana walks in. She teases him about it and he makes a comment about
enjoying life. It leads to a Freudian slip on her part about a kiss
and she changes the subject by mentioning Jennifer.
Johnny's
Place: Johnny isn't happy at what's been going on and Jennifer
asks him how many times he suggested having children with Ana. How
many times has he taken her out, remembered her birthday, and given
her nice gifts? What has he really done for her? “Do you think
you can go on like this forever? No!” As she turns to go back to
the counter she has abdominal pain. This looks bad.
Lascuráin
Mansion: Nic tells Ana he's not sure that Jennifer loves him
[querer]. She asks him why and he said
she needed more time. She teases him a little [didn't
catch the nuances] and tells him that women appreciate
romance, seduction, etc. He gets up and leaves, saying he doesn't
understand Fernando's not seeing what a great woman she is.
Isabela's
Apartment: Mama simply suggests that Isabimbo propose to
Fernando straightforwardly. Isabitch tells her sarcastically that it
should only be that easy. [This time she's actually right.]
She's losing patience with her mother, who then asks about The
Nanny. This provokes a comment that The Nanny is trying to compete
with her. Mama tells her she has to move fast. Isabeast tells her
that if Ana tries to steal Fernando she will kill her, which she
indicates with the head-slicing motion. Even Mama is shocked by
this. [Not to mention that nobody can steal from you what you
don't own, Tarantula].
University
Grounds: León has brought Fanny to school and tries to get her
to go home to straighten things out with her father. The younger
kids miss her and she should be an example for them. It's not that
he doesn't like having her stay with him, it's that the kids miss her
and need her. She admits she doesn't know what to do. She leans on
him and cries while he holds her.
La
Costeña, Fernando's Office: Isabimbo sits opposite him as he
tells her about wanting Fanny to come home. He's worried. She
dismisses his worry, saying it will pass. She asks why they don't
talk about that tonight over dinner. He's not in the mood. She
suggests they go to his favorite place but all he wants is for his
daughter to come home. Just like magic, his phone rings and Beatriz
tells him someone wants to see him. Fanny walks in telling him she
wants to come home. She apologizes, they embrace, and he's a happy
man. Isabitch turns her back on them and makes a gesture of boredom.
She then does an about face and says how great it is to see this
reconciliation. If Fanny heard this, she's not fooled. Isabitch
leaves them alone while they reconcile completely. Fernando tells
Fanny that the last few days were the most difficult of his life. He
knows he's not the perfect father, so he asks her to help him
understand her better. She tells him he's the best father she and
her sibs could ask for.
Lascuráin
Mansion: Ana steps outside and finds Johnny on the grounds, in
his horrible fuchsia shirt. She asks him what he's doing there. He
wants to talk more about their last conversation, but in a better
way; he says he doesn't always express himself well. She doesn't
want to go there. She's said what she had to. He gets on his knees
in front of her but she makes him get up. She doesn't know what to
say anymore.
That
Night
Lascuráin
Mansion: Nando sneaks down to the library to look for Fanny's
car keys. Just as he finds them in the desk drawer Fanny returns.
Ana makes a joke of being shocked and they embrace. Fanny explains
that Leon helped that happen and Ana yells for the other kids. They
all come in; all are happy. Nando comes out of the library and
embraces her. She and Ana tease him about how good he looks and
comments that he's wearing fragrance. [In truth the jacket looks
about a size too small and a decade or two out of date.] He
tells them he's going to a party at the university and he'll be
taking a cab. Ana shoos the younger kids off to bed and asks Nando
if he's nervous. A little, he says. He thanks her and tells her he
loves her, too. She kisses him and goes upstairs.
Chicago
Club: Nic goes in there with a large bouquet of flowers, which
he leaves on the bar with a lovely note for Jennifer, then ducks out
of sight. She finds the note and smiles. He straightens up and she
looks at him. She says “Maybe,” then “Yes” and kisses him.
He looks surprised, then grins.
Street:
Nando drives to the party in Fanny's car while Ximena puts on
makeup. As they get near a red light he realizes he forgot something
and hands her a large yellow flower. She asks how he knew and thanks
him as she takes it. Impossible to tell if she really likes yellow
flowers or not.
Expensive
Restaurant: Isabitch hears the echo of her mother's voice
telling her to invite him to dinner to pop the question. She smiles
slightly – slyly – and he asks her what she's thinking about.
She caresses his hand and starts saying that she wants him to know
she's in love with him. He doesn't look like he's comfortable with
that, but she goes on about “What's between you and me is – “
and he looks up. Not into her eyes but past her shoulder, where he
sees Ana. “Ana?”
“Yes,
Ana is an obstacle,” Isabitch says, “but what does she have to do
with what's going on with us – “
She
realizes he's not looking at her so she looks back and sees Ana
entering with Johnny. “Why is Ana here?” Fernando wonders.
Isabitch goes into full snob mode and not very well. “What an
outrage that she has the nerve to come in here!”
Fernando
continues watching Ana as she and Johnny pass his table. Ana is
equally shocked to see him there. This is going to get very ugly
very fast.

Nothing wrong with the recap, Urban. It was wonderful as usual. Thanks. Yes, I understand what you mean by LQLVMR where the writers seem to being going for broke in these last few episodes.
I am sure enjoying the fact that almost everyone seems to be pretty decent and the only real dangerous villain so far is Don Doroteo. Isabela and her mother just seem to be gold diggers and Ximena a "mean girl."
I really liked León not pressuring Fanny and giving her good counsel. I also likedFernando going to ask Fanny to come home.
My favorite scenes were don Fernando with Bruno and his dad Nicolás with Fernando starting with " . . and then there's Ana" recounting his cognac drinking dancing kissing interlude with Ana and at the same time Ana reminiscing about that same event with her friend. It would be nice if Fernando would take his dad's advice and go with his heart.
The scene with Isabela and her mother was good too. Yolanda, Isabela's mother announces her arrival saying she was dead like a dry leaf just like all of their bank accounts.
Will Fernando be able to resist Isabela's charms? Hmmmm.

I loved all your aside, especially the ones where you were mocking Johnny.
So Yolanda married Isabela's father and drained all his fortune and now she wants her daughter to marry a millionaire. From the way she talks and from Isa's illusions of grandeur I take it that Yolanda comes from the barrio, too.
She might have a history with Nicolas, but what if Bruno knows her, too, from back in the day and he will somehow expose her?
I had the feeling that Ximena kind of liked the flower, maybe she will go through some sort of a makeover, too, not only Nando.
Loved the men bonding. Bruno was particularly funny, wanting to be one of the guys, but not being able to relax because he was in front of his patron.
Fer should just let Sebas do whatever he wants, he has enough boys at home and Nando is already proving to be just like him. By the way he takes life and what one should do, I am pretty sure that Fer and his brother don't have a good relationship. He probably thinks that photography isn't a good enough job for a Lascurain.

Diego is described as a playboy so I guess that he and Fernando are opposites in other things as well. I don't know how well photography pays anymore, but to people who don't do it it must look like easy money.
I think that Fernando is very reluctant to risk his heart right now. He lost his beloved wife only a year ago. No grief counseling and not much talk about it with his kids. His dad is right, but it will take him probably at least sixty episodes to learn this lesson.

I've not caught up yet with this tn. I'm pleased and surprised that Fer and Ana already realize they have feelings for each other. I would not have thought it would be so soon. But what's with his snobby attitude about Isa being the right kind of woman he should be dating? It's going to be so painful when he finds out about Ana's other job.
Leon sounds like a really good guy. Glad he encouraged Fanny to return home and make peace with her father.

Leon is a real gem and this actor should mature quite nicely into a true leading man. I think he will be Fanny's OTL based on how they behave in the credits. I predict that Fernando will end up mentoring him professionally as well.
But I think we're stuck with Johnny for a while.

Also, just a little correction. the one that told Fanny that her dad had said that he was afraid Leon would hurt her was Leon, not Fanny. Fer told him at the office.
And that too was the reason Fernando is reluctant to have a relationship with Ana. He told Bruno and Nic that he could really go for Ana, but if they started a relationship and for some reason it would not work out, they would have hurt all 7 of his 'blessings'. And this is why he is trying to convince himself that Isa is the best choice.
LOVED LOVED his describing to them the scene with Ana, with the drinking, the dancing and the kiss. His charade of the 'dance' was absolutely irresistible... his facial expression and his describing what he 'felt'. sigh!.
I agree that Leon is doing the right thing with Fanny (by the way, he did not tell her he was a virgin too, he just said 'I love you with all my heart'). When he lowered her to the bed I began talking to myself 'wrong move, boy! you are trying to show her and her father that you are decent... this is NOT decent...'. I was so relieved when she pulled away and he was totally ok with that.
Loved that Fanny gave Leon credit for having convinced her to return home.
Poor Nando... I am afraid the 'phone call' in the previews is about him and the car... and it had to break up the 'almost kiss' scene...

two more things i liked about what we saw last night...
Ana had that lovely scene with Nando... and even gave him her blessing when he was headed out even though he said he was going to take a taxi (we all know he took Fanny's car)... she even made the sign of the cross on his shoulders as if she were his mom... and he took it in stride, no indication of rejection from him at all, he actually smiled.
Also at breakfast table, when Fernando said he needed to spend more time with his kids, the twins yelled stte of 'now we will get to go to XX (some amusement park)' and Nando yelled 'no, to the YYY museum!!' and Fernando said 'sure! why not both??'

I doubt that Isa's mother will turn out to be Ana's mother. Ana describes her mother as a nice woman who plays the guitar, and I don't see that being Isa's mother. I wish they could have cast an actress who looked more believably like she could pass as Isa's mother. This woman can't be more opposite looking from her.
So funny when Fernando told Bruno and Nico that he told Ana it was a mistake and they both we like 'what!?!' And later when NIco tells Ana that he likes to have a glass of cognac as a way to enjoy life, and she says under her breath and as a way to enjoy a kiss, lol.

I don't think Leon really owes Fernando anything regarding Fanny's sex life or lack thereof, but I do think that holding off is a better strategy. I'm glad he talked her into making up with her dad and going home. I wish Fanny would stop trying to claim that Fer thinks Leon isn't good enough because he's poor, when Fer NEVER said that, but I think maybe she heard him this time when he said he doesn't think that and Leon seems like a good guy.
Fanny should hire a daily bathroom cleaner for the boardinghouse to thank Leon for his kindness and hospitality.
I can see Fer's dilemma regarding getting involved with Ana. If they get together and then things go badly, that would be devastating for the kids. HOWEVER, I do not see why that means he should consider Isabela. He knows perfectly well that he isn't that into Isabela. Why are telenovela characters always like, "well if I can't have the one I want, I'll take whatever's offered first"? Keep looking (while working on accepting that Ana is the one)! There are more options in the world! Isa is a barnacle and you already KNOW that the kids are unhappy about her!
Given the choice between
a: date Ana, things MIGHT go badly and the kids will be upset, and
b: date Isabela, and DEFINITELY upset the kids,
c: don't date either of them for the time being, kids are fine, look for someone less of a barnacle to have fun with if you feel the need

I owe huge thanks to the recappers of the first sixteen episodes. I missed the beginning of this one and just started catching up on Hulu a few days ago, and the recaps help a lot.
I think I'll stick around for this one for various reasons:
* First and foremost: Silvia Navarro.
* The basic Sound-of-Music set-up is cute and watchable, while the pole-dancing angle has already added some fun scenes. (Fernando and "Lola," particularly.)
* While I haven't got into Jorge Salinas in other TNs, this role seems to be made for him. His reactions are excellent, and he and Silvia Navarro match up nicely.
* I like most of the children (but the younger boys less so) and look forward to seeing their storylines develop.
* I don't find Johnny as annoying as a lot of people do--he serves the function in the plot he's supposed to serve. (But I do find Manuela's sexual harassment of Bruno hugely annoying and am glad there's been none of that for the last few episodes.)
* The beefcake (Pablo Montero) hasn't really arrived yet, and things can only get more interesting once he does.
