TELEMUNDO Y MÁS: THE FRONT PAGE -- El Señor de los Cielos II, En Otra Piel, et cetera, week of August 11, 2014
Many of us watched the chilling Pablo Escobar: El Patrón del Mal. The telenovela inspired me to read Gabriel García Márquez's account of the kidnapped journalists' ordeal, Noticia de un secuestro and to compare GGM's version of events with those in the novela.
Recently, I came across a review of a novel that has just been translated into English but whose original Spanish version appeared in 2011: El ruido de las cosas al caer by Juan Gabriel Vásquez. The author -- as well as the narrator of the novel -- grew up during the bloody ascendency of Escobar. The narrator was 14 in 1984, the year Escobar had Rodrigo Lara Bonilla killed; he was 17 when Guillermo Cano, the fearless editor of El Espectador, was slain; and he was 19 in the terrible year when the presidential candidate Luis Carlos Galván was assassinated and some time later, a commercial airplane was blown up, killing all the passengers on board.
El ruido de las cosas al caer feels like a very personal novel, but it is well-grounded in time and place; it may be of interest -- either in its original Spanish or in its English translation -- to some of us who are still trying to make sense of that terrible time in Colombia's history. The opening sentence of the novel caught my eye:
"El primero de los hipopótamos, un macho del color de las perlas negras y tonelada y media de peso, cayó muerto a mediados de 2009."
(The first of the hippos, a male pearl-black in color and weighing a ton and a half, fell down dead in the mid-2009.)
The animal had escaped from Escobar's vanity zoo, Nápoles, and had been a menace to everything -- animal and vegetable -- around him. The decision to kill him and then display his cut-up remains triggered a media circus in Colombia. The writer uses this incident to draw his narrator's thoughts back to his own past and how the national trauma affected his life.
Interestingly, while author Juan Gabriel Vásquez lives in Spain these days, he spent some time as a reporter on the late Guillermo Cano's newspaper, El Espectador, in Bogotá earlier in his career.
You can get a sample of this book on Kindle, if you're interested. I'd be curious to hear what you think of it.
Labels: cielos, piel, telemundo
I bought that book El Ruido de las Cosas al Caer because the reviews that I read were very adulatory. And because I wanted something to read in Spanish.
Sadly, I haven't gotten too much past page 5 due to time constraints of being in two English language book groups and watching too many telenovelas!
I also made a stab at a Spanish book group several years ago in which I was the only non-native speaker. It is sponsored by a local, fabulous bookstore that offers its premises for some unusual book groups to meet. I loved going. We had Mexicans, Colombians, Peruvians, Spaniards, Ecuadorians, and a Salvadoran. Of course, I spent a lot of time listening because by the time I could come up with a really pithy thing to say in Spanish about the philosophy behind what the writer wrote, the time to have said it passed! But the people there were very accepting of my occasional searching for a word.
But reading an entire book in Spanish each month, in addition to the two I was already reading per month for English, was just too hard. I read Spanish much more slowly, and I have this dogged tendency to want to look up unknown words, even though I know I should try to get the meaning in context. So I dropped out of the group.
Oh do keep reading! It's absolutely worth the effort! I'm almost done with it, but I think I'm going to go back and read the first part over again -- it's that good!
I definitely read Spanish more slowly than English, but I only stop to look up words that fascinate me or keep me from understanding the whole picture. Since I'm reading it on a Kindle, I have a built-in Spanish/Spanish dictionary which saves a lot of time too.
I really appreciate the comment. I wasn't sure anyone would be interested, so it's nice to know YOU are.
Fina Estampa (original version of Marido En Alquiler) starts tomorrow at 12pm-2pm replacing Escrito En Las Estrellas. I think I will check it out to see how it compares to Marido.
We take up where we left off Friday. Gerardo comes into Doña Lupe’s pensión to “pay his respects” at Vicki’s velorio and everyone has an expression on their faces like there’s a bad smell in the room. Mondriana tells Diego not to throw him out; she doesn’t want scandals.
At the Malquerida El Chalado tells Maite that she doesn’t really know Anselmo at all. He says that Anselmo was the guy who sent the two guys who robbed her and Valeria right after they got to Los Angeles. It was $9,000 that was stolen. [I think they got that money from Ricalde’s desk before Mondriana started the fire.]
Anselmo tries to plead his case with Maite, saying that he’s changed. She asks him why he didn’t own up to this before and give her back the money if he’s such a changed guy. She tells him she never wants to see him again. Diego is watching.
Whoa! Mondriana, I guess, left the secret room by the other entrance and left the button exposed in the office at the mansion. Elena pushes the button and finds the secret room.
At first Maite is huffy with Diego for watching what happened, but she calms down. Diego tells her that she needs to realize that Anselmo is a gang member; and, no matter that he has a good heart, he is what he is. They have a cute scene together. He tells her she deserves better, and she asks him if maybe he has a twin somewhere!
Mondriana is in her room at the pensión flashbacking to the scene with Elena and Gerardo. There’s a knock at the door. Mondriana should realize by now that, wherever she might be, when there’s a knock at the door, it can only be … Gerardo.
Elena pokes around in the secret room. She finds the piano, and the penny drops. She also finds the pen with the colored ink that was used to write the letters and notes. She does NOT find the safe behind Julián’s portrait. Elena figures out where the piano playing came from but she asks herself: “Who was playing it?”
Gerardo starts out with a jealous mini-rant about Mondriana having arrived with Diego. She just laughs at him sarcastically. “Do you really think that our problem is Diego, that sweet guy?” He answers her right back. “Stop pretending I’m the only false one here!” He reminds her of having deceived him and hiding who she really was. He goes on to say that he knows that it’s true that she has a different name and that she worked in a brothel. He says he’s not there to judge her, just to find out who she really is. He says he loves her.
Mondriana tells Gerardo they are a lot alike: He’s a gigolo and she’s a prostitute. He pleads with her to understand that he’s only with Elena because of the baby. She asks him when he’s going to admit that he was with both of them at the same time. When he tells her she’s jealous, she fires back that she’s furious that he stays with Elena, knowing she’s a killer. And this is why she’s refusing to have anything to do with him.
Mondriana tells him about her suspicions that Elena did away with Vicki. He scoffs at this and goes on to say, again, that her past doesn’t matter to him. He then asks if she’s gone back to Diego. She asks him if he thinks it’s fair to accuse her of a relationship with Diego and then expect her to compete with a killer. He sinks down on the bed, desperate. He mutters that he never thought Elena would ruin his life. He says he was SO close to being happy with Mondriana, but Elena turned everything to garbage.
Mondriana opens the door, trying to get Gerardo to leave, and Diego happens to be passing by. Diego: “What are you doing in Adriana’s bedroom?” After Gerardo leaves, Diego asks what Gerardo wanted. Then he looks miserable, getting it, and leaves without allowing her to explain anything.
Susana the Snoop comes to tell Elena about Jorge asking Camila about she and Emiliana coming to live with him. She also tells her that they decided to have him come stay a while at Casa Serrano. And Susana plays her best card: “Guess who’s staying in that pensión? Mónica/Adriana! And when Emiliana saw her she gave her a big hug.” Susana goes on to tell Elena that, after the rosary, she lost sight of Mondriana until much later when she returned again. Elena asks her about what time that was.
At the mansion Jorge tries to convince Lorena la Estupida to let the girls live with him. He says all the tension in the house is unhealthy for them.
Emi tells her sister she feels depressed and sad. She asks Camila if Mondriana could come back to stay with them. Cami, of course, says that’s not possible because of the deception.
At the apartment behind the bookstore, Gabriel and Rodrigo are having breakfast. Rod tells his son that, when he and Marta embraced at the velorio, he felt that they were united once more. Then there’s a knock on the door. It’s Ricardo! He says “¡Soy libre!" Lots of hugs. Later he calls Marta at the mansion and Cami overhears the good news. Elena, of course, slithers into the kitchen and pretends to be happy. When Marta repeats what Ricardo says about the killer having been Carlos Ricalde, Cami shoots a look at Elena.
Elena convinces Camila to go and see Ricardo. She says she’ll “take care of Emiliana”. Upstairs the doctor examines Emi and doesn’t find anything wrong with her. But he says he’s going to do a blood test.
Jorge arrives at Selma’s. He tells Mondriana that Camila is just fine. He also tells her the good news about Ricardo’s release. He goes on to say that Emi is very depressed.
Selma plays the recording Mondriana made in which Elena admits the affair with Julián and that he refused to leave Mónica for her. After they’ve listened, Mondriana tells Jorge that she didn’t get it on the recording because they went up to Elena’s bedroom. But she overheard Elena admit that she killed Julián. Jorge, looking grim, says that when Camila and Emiliana are safe and this killer is behind bars, then he’ll weep for his brother. Even though he doesn’t think Julián deserves it. He says it was an aberration what his brother did.
Elena is back in the secret room. She finds the video of herself as a child that was played at her birthday party. She remembers talking to Mondriana about her having been the one to play it. QED: Mondriana has been in the secret room. Elena sits there and says “Of course. It was you. Sí, maldita. Why didn’t I realize it before?”
This was a set-up episode, not that much happened, but everyone's preparing for things coming up.
Chacorta continues to be impressed by Irma, who cares about his kids, Victor and Carlitos. He says maybe soon you'll be the "mother" of those kids. He gives her a suitcase of cash for Pepe and Steven, but tells her soon, she won't need them anymore in her career.
Victor has overheard Chacorta say he might have to kill Ernesto, and tells Ruti. She's horrified. She tells Xime, who says there's nothing you can do. She calls AC, who says don't worry, I told him NOT to kill him. This only confirms that Chacorta does plan to do it. Chacorta goes up to Ernie, who is dutifully washing a truck, and Ernie tries to show how loyal he is, pointing out that he got Victor a girl when some thought Vic was gay.
Chacorta says, I don't like that girl (Isabel). So if you want to prove your loyalty, you have to KILL her. Uuuuuy! This is the girl Victor loves. Ernie swallows, later goes to the brothel, and takes Isabel upstairs.
Lai and Inaki meet with AC and Monica. The two ladies pretty much want to kill each other. But AC calms things down, and here's the deal. Lai is going to cozy up to Tijeras to allow AC to eventually bring out Chema for AC to kill. In return, AC will invest in Inaki starting various businesses in Mexico. Monica later tells AC not to trust Lai. And this is wise, since Lai is playing off Chema and AC against each other, in a very dangerous way. I'm not sure she's really on board with either of them.
Mati is going to the lion's den (Chacorta's place) to somehow help in the kidnapping of her darling Carlitos. This plan may have some problems. Mati tells Lai that she may not come back, but if she does, can she live at Lai's place in Spain? Lai says no, but maybe I'll find you another place in Spain.
Elsa tells Chema she's losing in the polls, I want to arrest Mati to boost my reputation. Chema nixes this. But Max comes to Elsa's aid, saying he'll gladly lose Ximena's case on purpose to have Elsa's "love". So she can claim credit for imprisoning the wife of AC. He moves up the trial date, telling Santiago and Xime that it's better to go to trial now, rather than right before the elections. He tells Ximena to "trust him". Hah! So Xime leaves her kids with Alba to go to the city where the trial is.
We're all set for some ACTION!
thanks so much novelera!
the spanish captions were running together and missing letters, inventing new words.
so disappointed to see Elena discover the secret room,
this gives her back the upper hand.
(I thought that Julian designed that room to hide their treasures but it seems more like an attic thingy)
Jorge continues to fall short of being any real help.
and is Geraldo not getting that Elena may have been responsible for his brother's death?
I will look into El Ruido de las Cosas al Caer. I have trouble finding time to read in Spanish, too.
Many thanks, Novelera. I always enjoy your recaps, and this one was no exception. Yes, I agree, Mondri should realize that a knock on the door almost always means trouble, oops, I mean Gerardo. I also enjoyed your describing Elena slithering into the kitchen.
I was glad that the doctor said he planned to do a blood test, though I wonder whether it would turn up evidence of poisoning.
Elena now knows about the secret room and who's responsible for tormenting her, and I'm guessing she'll eventually catch someone there (instead of the other way around). Fortunately there are 4 people who know about the room. Here's to hoping Jorge uses his stay wisely and doesn't make things worse.
Elena clearly didn't like Jorge staying at the house...didn't even try to hide it.
Still no ultimas semanas?

I don't own an actual Kindle either. I've downloaded the app onto my "devices" and I usually end up reading on my laptop because sometimes I like to take notes or look stuff up. The monolingual Spanish dictionary is just built in, or at least I didn't pay for it, though I may at some point have agreed to allowing it to be downloaded (or is it uploaded? You can see how clever I am in this department!)
[I suspect Kindle/Amazon makes its real money from the books it sells.]
Am I right in thinking that the Spanish dictionary is integrated with the Kindle app, so that when you want to get a definition (en español), you just touch the word in the Kindle and the dictionary automatically provides a definition? (I'm responding here rather than sending you an email because I suspect that this may be of interest to others on CarayCaray as well.)
Yes, it seems to be integrated into the Kindle app itself. I select the word and an abbreviated version of the dictionary entry appears. From there, I can choose to go to the entire dictionary page. It recognizes inflected forms of verbs too, which is very nice.
I finally caught up with Mon and Tues shows. I cannot believe they shot Alba; I fear there is going to be war between Chema and AC/Chacorta! Mati is in way over her head.
Thanks Hombre.
Gerardo, burning with jealousy, comes to ask Diego who Adriana is.
Jorge, Mondriana and Selma re-hash Elena’s having murdered Julián some more. When asked why she never suspected a thing, Mondri says Elena is a world-class liear.
Marta leaves to go see Ricardo and Emiliana's kindly cousin Elena brings her a tray with “Marta’s pancakes”. Emi eats this food and becomes unconscious. When Lorena tries to go check on her, Elena distracts her with a plan to look at pictures of baby clothes.
Camila comes to see Ricardo to say she’s so happy he’s free. But they proceed to have the same fight as always. [Why doesn’t she send him an email with a link to a definition of Rohypnol?]
Back to Diego and Gerardo, Gerardo is beside himself with jealousy. He asks Diego where he met Adriana. Diego: “Ask her yourself!” Gerardo: “I did; she won’t tell me.” Diego: “Well…..what does that tell you? [paraphrased].
Elena grills Lorena la Estupida about Mondriana having been at the velorio.
Diego and Gerardo end up in a big fight. Snoopy runs to tell her master about this. Diego gets the best of the fight. Just as Elena, Lorena and Snoopy run out there, Diego says to Gerardo: “Get it through your head! You lost her! She doesn’t want anything to do with you any more!” Elena hears this.
Jennifer finds Emi unconscious and runs out to interrupt the big post-fight crowd on the lawn.
Marta gives Ricardo some good advice. Either forgive Camila with your whole heart or let her go.
Diego calls Mondriana about what happened with Emi and Mondriana, needless to say, is beside herself.
Spiteful Snoopy can’t stand to see Jennifer texting Gabriel and tells her that Gabe used to be in love with her.
Mondriana goes to the hospital. Elena tries to tell her to leave, but Cami insists she stay. The doctor, of course, can’t find anything wrong. And Elena had Snoopy throw out the breakfast before she went to the hospital.
Emi is out of danger, but will stay the night in the hospital. Cami tells Mondriana she’ll keep her posted after Lorena la Estupida, who is basically a ventriloquist’s dummy for her evil spawn, denies Mondriana seeing Emiliana.
Mondriana is on her way out when the ever present Gerardo accosts her. He tells her the usual bit about how much he loves her, and plants a big kiss on her. Elena has come out and sees the kiss! Oh, how I love to see Elena suffer!
Thanks to all you recappers! I haven't posted on here before, but I've been reading (and enjoying) all the write ups and comments on this novela loca.
I am learning Spanish and found the novelas a great way to develop my ear. I've followed several now, mostly on Telemundo. I seem to like their glossy somewhat crazy style.
I tend to like to binge watch these by watching 10 (or more episodes) on a weekend. On this one, I fell really far behind (about 60 capitulos!!). However, thanks to your very witty write-ups (and a bit of scanning), I've finally caught up.
I agree with your comments, they do seem to be stretching this one to the max. It reminds of me of El Rostro de la Venganza. Which had a very crazy premise to start, and then there were so many switches, fake outs and plot twists that it was totally incomprehensible (and very tired) by the end. I’m hoping Telemundo will spare us that misery, but it sure doesn’t look like it.
Great recap, novelera. I'm in awe of how you can cover so much so succinctly.
From now on, I think I'll always refer to Susana as Snoopy. And you nailed Lorena perfectly as "a ventriloquist's dummy." That's VD for short, right?
I've been asking your parenthetical question, "[Why doesn’t she send him an email with a link to a definition of Rohypnol?]" for some weeks now. The fact that we still have to ask it is one of the many things that annoy me about this seemingly endless novela. Sigh.
I can certainly see how Pachuco and Rottweiler will be of service to the Evil Elena. What a shame that the good guys can never find enough evidence. Everything clearly points to her. I doubt she's going to let Gerardo (and of course Mondriana) off easy.
I've been wondering for a long time why Snoopy hadn't said anything. Can't believe they waited until now when it's really not important anymore.
Regarding Lorena la Estupida...someone needs to get her drunk...that's the when she's been the most remorseful.

Welcome Miguel in SD. Many of us starting watching telenovelas to help with our Spanish comprehension. And they're a lot of fun, too!! My Spanish teacher warns us about Univision novelas becasue the Spanish is so Mexican with lots of slang that isn't used anywhere else. Telemundo novelas use a more generic Spanish.
They are certainly dragging out EOP. I would appreciated any plot development even if it was crazy and incomprehensible although they are doing a little better now.
Now that Elena knows that Gerardo is/was getting it on with Adriana, maybe something will happen.
thanks so much novelera!
I'm thinking Elena will NEVER be able to forgive Geraldo's betrayal,
and I suppose she will blame everything on Monica.
Ernie takes Isabel back to her place. He then offers her a large wad of cash. She says that's way more than I charge. He tells her she has to leave town forever. Either that or he kills her. Trembling, she agrees. He also makes her write a farewell note to Victor. Later, he tell Chacorta what he did, and gives him the note. But Chacorta has other matters to attend to, as we shall see.
Ximena and Santiago arrive at her hearing. Everyone's there, including Garnica, Elsa and Max (the bad guys) and Ignacio, Leo and Ramos (the good guys). The good guys and the bad guys trade insults. Elsa wants Vicky to sign a pact that they'll fight drugs together, but Leo says she'll never sign anything with you. Elsa speaks out against drugs, and when she's asked how can she have Max as her campaign manager if he's defending Ximena Letran, she says Max is no longer her campaign manager.
Ignacio knows full well he father is going to lose on purpose, and tells him he already lost all respect as a father, now he's lost all respect as a lawyer. The bailiff reads the charges against Xime, and they're a mile long - conspiracy, accessory to murder, drugs, you name it. She's upset, says she's innocent, Max says keep quiet. We know Xime's in for a big surprise.
Rutila calls Bert in Spain, asks if she and Ernie can move there. It's the middle of the night for him, he's not happy about this, but he'll think about it and call her in the morning.
Monica invites Vicky to "Danilos" place. Dan is away, but sister "Fernanda" wants to have a nice lunch with Vicky (and find out everything). As usual, Vicky's security are not allowed in, so no one discovers who Fernanda really is.
AC shows up where Rutila is. He asks her if she and Ernie are an item, why does she want to protect him? She lies, says they broke up a while back, now they're just friends. Enter Ernie, who says the same thing. AC is not happy, because he pretty much knows they're both lying. Let's see what he does next.
Since Xime is at her trial, Alba is caring for Rutila and Luzmaria (as well as Carlitos). Mati shows up and wants to see Carlitos. Alba grudgingly says okay. Toro and his men are outside the ranch, ready to kidnap Carlitos. But to Mati's surprise, Chacorta is there! He won't let Mati leave. He tells her if she sets up a meeting between HIM and Garnica, he'll let her have full visitation rights. But this was not in her plan, and she's very nervous. Chacorta says she can go with the kids to school in the morning.
But in the morning, he keeps her behind, and sends Alba, Victor, LuzMa and Carlitos off to school. Mati is desperate, when Chacorta leaves the room, she calls Toro, call it off! He refuses, says Chema told him to kidnap the kid. The SUVS with the kids see the bad guys' SUV's and Alba says don't stop. They speed off to the school, being followed.
At the school, they try to escort the kids inside. But Toro shoots the two guards. Alba grabs Carlitos, refusing to give him up. Toro threatens to shoot. Victor hits him with his crutches, and Alba tells Carlitos to run for it! Toro punches Victor, then shoots Alba, 4 times, in the back!!
In the end, Toro and crew have to flee, having failed to kidnap anybody. But Alba is dying!
AC and Chacorta get the word, and stop what they're doing, rushing to the hospital. As we all know, with the shooting of Alba, this means WAR!
thanks so much Hombre!
(how's the rain)
did Ernie tell Chacorta that he got Isabel to leave, or did he just say that he got rid of her? So far our young tough guy hasn't really crossed the line but Chacorta won't be happy until he does, like with Bert.
that was odd AC showing up at Alba's to chat with Ruti, Ernie is blocked from casually walking in (but later gets to meet the great "El Señor de los Cielos"), and Mati also notices the extra guys hanging around especially AC's double, (hmm, so what happened to that guy Mati brought with her).
I'm not seeing anyone help Ximena.
Gracias Hombre
I was shocked that Alba was killed!
Chacorta is too smart for Mati, I think he will figure this one out quickly.
Two basically good people Alba & Ximena have/are suffering 'cause of the family business.
Deb: I think Chacorta originally told Ernie to make Isabel "disappear", he didn't specifically say kill. And yes, Ernie has now said she's "gone", but didn't specifically say killed. There's always that wriggle room, especially when they use euphemisms like "quebrado". But I agree, Chacorta will continue to find reasons to push Ernie over the line.
Variopinta: We're not sure Alba is dead. Maybe tonight we'll know for sure.
As for the rain, although they said Baltimore had a record, fortunately, my house was fine. And the sun is out today!
What an exciting episode! Alba being so protective of Carlitos was so genuine. Poor Ximena, with that long list of charges, she may be going to jail for a long time. Ignacio's Dad needs his payback time.
Thanks so much Hombre!
I'd also like to welcome you, Miguel in SD. I agree with your preference for Telemundo novelas.
One thing I didn't mention last night was a personal opinion. I'm going to be FURIOUS if Jennifer actually leaves Gabriel over Snoopy's spiteful remarks. A blind man could see she's a jealous witch who couldn't hold Gabriel's interest for more than 5 minutes. We've all dreaded the prospect of Jennifer's possible re-capture by Rottweiler, and a spat with Gabriel would be as infuriating and obvious a plot development as Elena poisoning Emiliana and getting away with it.
thanks for the recaps. So there are three official factions in this. The "good guys" (victoria), the bad guys AC and Vic, and the worse guys Chema
I totally agree with your opinion, Novelera, about the possibility of Jennifer leaving Gabriel because of his supposedly fooling around with Snoopy. Wasn't Jennifer hooked up with Rottweiler before she met Gabriel? Everybody's got exes. She married Gabriel and what happened before that doesn't matter.
If Jennifer is foolish enough to confirm it with Marta I'm sure Marta will tell her to leave it alone. Her response is always to avoid gossip and leave things in the past.
And where is Rottweiler by the way? It's been weeks. Also no news from Pachuco considering that the briefcase full of money was taken by the police for evidence. He should be threatening Elena right about now.
spanish student
Good point, Spanish Student. The writers seemed to have forgotten Pachuco's threat to kill both Gerardo and Elena if the briefcase full of money (was it $1 million or $3 million?) wasn't there like she told him it would be. Some villain!
Rehash of Elena spying on Ger and seeing him kiss Mondri. She is not pleased. Mondri actually tells him he needs to focus on Elena and the baby, but Elena is too busy remembering the fight between Diego and Ger to hear, and she figures out who they were fighting over.
Anselmo apologizes to Maite and thinks all is well and asks for a kiss, but nope! Nice try, dude. Maite is still ticked off.
Jen fills in Marta and Gabe about Emi, but when Gabe goes in for a hig, she backs off. Susanna gloats in the background.
Ger and Mondri argue about the same ole, same ole. Elena isn’t close enough to hear and she says they are going to pay.
Emi wakes up in the hospital as Cami walks in to visit. She’s happy because the hospital finally didn’t turn her away for being too young.
Maite stomps back to Lupe’s and fills in Vale about Anselmo being the robber. She could have married him, had escuincles, and he never would have told her! Vale points out that she was thinking about marrying and having kids with him. Maite gets annoyed.
Jorge chats with Lorena about Elena and how Ger doesn’t seem to be that into the baby. Lorena sticks up for Elena as always, but she’s getting uncomfortable with Jorge and his tone about Elena. Jorge wonders if Elena is picking her partners to replace her still unknown father.
Eddie stops by the pension to talk to Diego. He wants to know everything about Carlos and Pachuco. He thinks Pachuco could be the key to bringing down all the bad guys.
Emi asks what she had, and Cami tells her they don’t really know. They talk about Ricardo, who Cami has known since “kindergarden”, which Telemundo helpfully translates as “jardin de ninos”, kinda missing the point? That’s not what they call kindergarden in Mexico is it? Because if it is, then I’m going to picture all Mexican kids as cabbage patch dolls from now on.
Lorena and Jorge still talking. He says something I missed, and she asks why she should feel so guilty about Elena. “You really don’t know?”, asks Jorge. She gets nervous and leaves him. They might be thinking of different things, or she is just now realizing that he knows more of Elena that she thought.
Elena looks even more possessed as she continues to watch Ger and Mondri. Mondri isn’t going to forgive Ger for anything.
Eddie and Vale are going out for a date. He’ll talk to Diego more when they get back.
Gabe finds Jen in the house and gets an elbow in the gut when he hugs her. She asks about Susanna. Gulp de Gabe.
Emi doesn’t feel like eating but she does want to see Mondriana. Emi’s all happy to find out that Mondri was there to see her, but having her gone is like her mother dying again. Then Lorena enters her room and ruins her mood completely. Lorena wants her to eat and offers to feed her so she doesn’t get tired. But Emi says she’s not a little girl. Jeez. But at least this gets Emi to eat (all by herself).
Mondri STILL yelling at Ger. Too bad Elena couldn’t get closer, or that she want’ too psycho to see this isn’t a lover’s conversation. She leaves him, and Elena thinks all the tricks in the house were to get Ger away from Elena. Jorge sees her outside as he leaves the hospital, and he politely asks how she’s doing.
Selma picks up Mondri, and Mondri tells Selma that Emi just had “hormones” or something. Really? Hormones? Then why aren’t the hospitals filled with teenagers? Mondri talks about Cami not letting her in to see Emi, and Ger being obsessed with her. Selma says it’s a good thing Elena doesn’t know about all this. Ha!
Couple scenes of Jen grilling Gabe about Susanna.
Eileen continues to be the best person ever as she talks to Ric about Camila. She asks for details of the photos that Ric saw, and how into Ernesto Cami was in the photos. He tells her, and Eileen is like “That’s it?? You don’t think it’s weird that her eyes were closed the whole time and was never all porn (I summarize Eileen’s kissy faces and talk of passion) with Ernesto? Thank you, Eileen! She continues to play shrink and actually gets him to laugh.
Jen gets Gabe downstairs to confront Susanna about her past relationship with Gabe. Sue asks Marta to bear witness to them having kissed before. She says yes, she caught them, and Jen storms off. Sue and Gabe argue about their past and whether he was in love or not (not) until Marta tells them to shut it. She orders Gabe to go to his wife and glares at Susanna.
Ric thinks everything Eileen is telling him sounds logical, but he just can’t fell it. Celos and all. She kids him about Cami having told her that Ric was a tiger in bed. And then there is more conversation about a dinosaur that I missed. It was something Ric has heard several times before, so maybe about her career? Whatever, not important. Mostly just Eileen being Eileen.
Diego and Maite talk about Eddie. I miss this conversation too, but Diego doesn’t want Eddie to know that Adriana is staying at the house. Maite texts Vale to warn her not to say anything.
Jen tells Gabe that she’s mad that he didn’t tell her about Sue before Jen came to work at the house and make a fool of herself in front of Sue. They make up, but he’s still not getting a kiss.
Elena gets back to the house, still angry and blabbing about her vengeance. She’s going to hit Mondri where it hurts most. (The girls, or does she think Ger? Hopefully Ger).
Emi gets taken for more tests. She protests and Cami tells her to quit being so dramatic. Then Cami gets a call from Elena, who tells her they have to talk about something, but not over the phone. It’s something grave about Adriana. Cami will get there as soon as she can. Elena gets snippy with Monica’s picture.
Cop guy goes to Ger’s office to tell him about the evidence against Carlos. Ger wants to take care of the burial since Ernesto was “like a brother” to him.
I love Selma’s house and want to move in when the show is over. Also, Mondri is there and they talk about being worried about Jorge getting custody of Emi as soon as possible. She needs to be protected from Elena and Mondri won’t relax until they are safe.
Cami gets back to the house, and Elena makes her wait until Ger gets there. Elena does NOT kill them. Not yet anyway. Instead, she shows them the secret attic basement and says that THIS is how Adriana played all those tricks on them.
And somehow we are still not in Ultimos Capitulos. But then, if we judged Ultimos Caps by how much stuff was happening, Reina de Corazones would be in the final weeks too.
Kelly
Thanks for the great recap, Kelly. What can I say, this thing just goes on and on and only stupid things happen. Susana can poison Gab's relationship with Jennifer with their old fling? Really?
Elena has found the secret room. More trouble for Adriana but not really that different from her other beefs with Adriana.
Remember when Jorge went into the secret room? We thought maybe that would lead to something. Nope. Now everybody knows about it.
Thanks Kelly. I agree with you and Jean - this is just going on and on.
I hope Cami tells Jorge about the secret room and he says something to put her at ease. It would also be nice if Gerardo told her (if she would talk to him) so that she'll know that she's really on Elena's hit list now.
Thanks to Eileen. She can be annoying sometimes but the writers gave her the power to solve the Cami/Ernesto mystery.
I understand Jen being upset that she was kept in the dark about their relationship but it really wasn't much and I doubt that Susana was in love with him. Can't wait to see what happens to her.
What's the deal with Eddie now...is he gonna put Mondriana at risk?
spanish student
I meant to say it would be nice if Gerardo (or Jorge perhaps) told "Mondriana" about Elena's discovery of the secret room.
My efforts to quickly type comments have resulted in an overreliance on pronouns.
Spanish student
thanks so much Kelly!
I always enjoy your recaps.
when they first got to the hospital (earlier) I thought I saw a sign saying Children's Hospital, and was wondering if Emi's feet would be hanging over the end of the bed.
"Really? Hormones? Then why aren't the hospitals filled with teenagers?" haha!
and I'm still wondering how Monica got to the hospital so far ahead of Jorge, when they all started from Selma's place, and did Selma have to wait outside all this time.
It's not a good sign that anyone still believes anything Elena says, even if it's true. I hope Jorge jumps in a smooths this one over with Cami, but his character seems to have taken a wishy/washy turn somewhere along the line.
Eddie's idea that would put Adriana at risk and Diego's willingness to go back to prison rather than be a part of it, really brings out Diego's burning love for her, and how difficult it has been for him to control those emotions, this is truly a gran amor, and I'm still looking forward to seeing them back together, he does have the 'dija', right?
AC and Chacorta rush to the hospital where Alba is going to be operated on. They have lots of advance guys clearing things out, and AC is wearing his baseball cap to hide his appearance. He enters the operating room and pulls a gun on the doctor, saying, either you save her, or I'll kill everyone in this room! I'm not sure whether this'll allow the doc's hands to be steady, but this is what druglords always do. I'm glad I'm not the doctor. In fact, after they banish AC and Chacorta from the operating room, one doc says to the other, wasn't that the Lord of the Skies? So these docs are probably dead no matter what.
Alba got 5 shots, once pierced her lung, one pierced her stomach, and needs lots of blood. It's a rare type, and family members may have to donate, which could mean AC. In real life, it's hard to believe she could be saved, but in this show, who knows?
When Chacorta arrives at the hospital, he tells Victor to leave. He does, but not before telling Chacorta that the assailants tried to kidnap Carlitos, that seemed to be their goal. A light bulb goes off in Chacorta's head. Matilde! He calls the ranch, has them make sure Mati can't leave, and has her guards moved away from her on some fake pretext. Mati is in deep doo doo, even though AC is going to interrogate her, as Chacorta would be too emotional. AC gets her alone, and here we go!
AC also has the whole town locked down to find Toro and crew, who have to hide out in a hotel. Chema pretty much tells Toro he's on his own. Chema's mad that Toro messed up. Apparently he's pretty much jettisoning Toro and Mati, and concentrating on Lai. Lai's being super nice. But we know that Lai MIGHT be working for AC!
When Bert hears that Alba was shot, he ignores Ruti's warnings, he's coming to the US.
Monica, dressed up as a preppy or soccer mom, has lunch with Victoria and tries to find out how much Vicky likes Danilo. Vicky says would you be happier if I liked him more, or less?(!)
Xime has her trial, and sure enough, Max's defense is weak. Xime get two years in jail. She's stunned. Max says he'll appeal, and Santiago CLOCKS him, you idiot, you lost the case!
Xime reams out Leo, are you happy now? Leo realizes this was a miscalculation. She had thought the Casillas family would come out in force to protect Xime, and she'd arrest them. But apparently AC doesn't care about Xime anymore. Could he possibly have a new girlfriend? (Ya think?) He actually has 3, Lai, Monica and Vicky!
What's worse, Xime's sentence has helped Elsa Marin. And Garnica. Oh well. Leo hears about Alba being shot, wants to investigate. I'm guessing she'll get to see AC again. And miss out on catching him again. And no one else will see him. Again.
Will anything ever go right for our fearless Leonor?
great recap Hombre!
so smooth.
looks like shooting mama trumps all other business.
hmm, I would think the local narcos would be big contributors to the local hospital,
maybe have a wing named after them.
not that they would have the best medical care there,
since they are always short on doctors.
I like Lai, she's no dummy and thinks for herself, and I think she is smitten with Aurelio,
but not big on his arrangements with Monica,
(of course no hot blooded woman could resist a Casillas)
(btw does Aurelio refer to Monica as his wife, and did they ever get married?)
let's see if I got this right, I think when Lai and Inaki were meeting with Aurelio and she laid out Chema's offer, he wanted her to follow up on that, I think she asked AC what he expected her to do, and he replied, do whatever you have to, at which she was taken aback.
and now it looks like she just replaced Mati as Chema's girl, but so far has not consummated their arrangement.
Thanks so much, Kelly. Your style is very succinct and snarky. I really enjoy reading your recaps.
I would describe Elena's expression while viewing the Mondriana and Gerardo Show on the public sidewalk as sulphurous. Of course, what she got out of it was Mondriana had gone after poor little Gerardo and snared him. She apparently couldn't interpret Mondriana's pushing him away vehemently at least once as the fact that SHE was rejecting HIS overtures.
Marta did make some impact on Susana when she told her what she did to Jennifer was ugly. She seemed to take that on and only later came up with a rather weak grin of triumph.
Diego also said that he wasn't willing to risk Maite or Valeria to help Eddie out. Of course his Adriana is the one he MOST wants safe, but Diego is extremely protective toward all the women in the pension. He felt that way about Emi as well and wanted to come into the house when she was discovered unconscious, but Gerardo refused him entrance.
The scene with Eileen and Ricardo was SO enjoyable. The funny thing that happened is that she told him Cami said that he was a fiera (wild animal) in bed. But she went on to puncture his vanity by saying that Cami meant that his snoring sounded like a wild beast!
I'm not as intent on this one being over as some of you. I still mostly enjoy every episode. I do think that it's odd we haven't even gotten the usual six-week "etapa culminante" and also wonder how much longer Elena can get away with it.
Tks Hombre
I was thinking the same thing, great way to steady the surgeon's hand, hold a gun to his head. Chacorta used Aurelio's name when he tried to calm him down, in front of the doctors.
Ximena asked the judge for permission to speak, which she did. Elsa did not look pleased so maybe Ximena made some points.

Thanks for the help out everyone on some of the scenes I missed. Pretty much any scene with Eileen is going to be funny, whether or not you understand everything. And yet, Ric is still hung up on Cami. Might be best for them both to go their separate ways, although we know this will never happen. I'm just waiting for the day that Mondriana gets to put on a concert for the whole house, esp. Elena. Fun party!
EL SENOR
Deb- I'm with you on Lai. She's one of the few people to like now on this show. Sure, she's still a drug dealer, but she plays it cool. Even Leonor of the good guys can't do that. She's smart, and sexy without going into full-on fulana mode. And she's downright conservative compared to some of these people (Mati would've jumped into bed with Inaki and his girlfriend to get what she wanted). Hey, you gotta root for someone and she's as good a choice as any. At least until Cabo comes back.
Kelly
Sometimes, I think the good guys' strategies are just as messed up as the bad guys. Poor Ximena, her trial was a sham, he didn't even try to defend her, and now she's off to jail. Leo and Ignacio really put her there; Leo will do anything to get to AC. It's like she's obsessed!
¡Ultimos Capítulos! Por fin!! They finally said it at the end of tonight's (Thursday's) episode.
The big news is that we have gone right to últimos capitulos for this novela. It’s very strange. The promos for Señora Acero have disappeared and all the promos now are for Les Mis, which is referred to as coming “Pronto,” while the previous promos for Señora Acero were labelled as “muy pronto.” Whatever. At least we know that the end is nigh.
Back to our still slow-moving story. Elena gives Gerardo and Camila a tour of the secret room. She spins a pretty good tale about how Mondriana deceived them all and never knew Mónica at all. She points out the piano and says, “con ese piano sonaba la musica en las noches,” “the music at night came from this piano.” [Notice that she didn’t say, here is a CD player and a pile of Mónica Serrano’s CD’s. Unless this is a player piano, the only way it could produce the music that was heard in the house is if someone was playing it. Is she suggesting that in addition to learning all about Mónica's life and mastering her handwriting and signature, Mondriana also learned how to play the piano like her, a renowned concert pianist? Between clients when she was a prostitute? If so, Mondriana is definitely wasting her talents on the complicated fraud she is supposedly committing. ]
When Camila asks how Mondriana could have known the pet names Monica used with her children, Elena produces some of Mónica's diaries and says that they are also the way that Mondriana learned Mónica's handwriting. Elena has even cooked up a motive – Mondriana wanted to hide her past as a prostitute, drive Elena crazy, then seduce Gerardo and get access to Mónica's fortune. She tells Cami that Mondriana was in cahoots with Carlos Ricalde to get Mónica's fortune and probably arranged Cami's kidnapping. Gerardo says nothing during most of this but he finally pipes up at the last part and says that Elena is just speculating. Elena suggests they notify the police and let them investigate. Cami wants time to get her thoughts in order. She leaves. Gerardo argues against calling the police because the investigation could reveal the bad things that he and Elena did.
Emi has missed Mondriana terribly. She calls her from the hospital and arranges to see her there the next morning.
Ric and Gabriel are glum at breakfast with Rodrigo - relationship problems. They don't want to talk about them until Rod starts reading a self-help book aloud until they fess up.
Eddie has taken Valeria on a date. She promises to cook for him. He tells her that the Carlos Ricalde case is not making progress since they can't find Pachuco. He asks if Valeria knows where he can find Adriana. Valeria lies and says no.
Marta gives marital advice to Jennifer. She admits the truth – before he met Jennifer, Gabriel was a flirt and chased everything in skirts but since then he only has had eyes for her. She tells Jennifer to talk to Gabriel and work it out. She also says that Susana is a woman scorned and they are dangerous.
Ricardo and Gabriel disclose their romantic problems. Rodrigo gives them advice: Ricardo should either believe Camila or end their relationship. Gabriel should shower Jennifer with flowers and mariachis until she forgives him. He tells them something about life being like a movie script that they have to follow.
Jorge comes to see Emi. She tells him how much she cares about Mondriana. He says that he likes Mondriana now. He asks if she wants to come and live with him since Mondriana isn't at the Serrano house anymore.
Mondriana rehashes her hopes that Jorge can get custody of Emiliana with Selma.
Diego flashes back to a happy time with Adriana. He says that even if it costs him his liberty or his life, he won't let her life be in danger again.
It's clear that Ricardo hasn't taken to heart any of the good advice he was given about his relationship with Cami. He wants proof that Ernesto drugged Cami. He goes to the police station and asks the cop if they found any drugs at Ernesto's place that could have been used to sedate Cami while the photos were taken. The cop says no. Ric asks if they tested any glasses or cups at the crime scene to see if they contained drugs. The cop replies that the murder case on Ernesto is closed and Cami is the person to request further investigation of a different crime. Ric replies that Cami probably expects that the police are doing their job. Zing. The cop tells Ricardo that he should thank the Virgin that he was released from custody.
Mondriana and Selma arrive at the hospital. Mondriana is excited to see Emi again. Selfless Selma agrees to wait outside. Inside the hospital, Mondriana runs into Cami who reams her out and tells her to disappear from their lives. She won't say why. Mondriana is devastated. She calls Jorge, tells him what happened and asks him to find out what is going on.
The odious Susana pours more venom about Jennifer and Gabriel into Elena's ear. Elena has forgotten the name of the gang leader that is looking for Jennifer. Susana tells her it is Rottweiler.
Camila tells Emi that Mondriana isn't coming to see her and that she has found out that Mondriana has been deceiving them even more than they thought before. Sad face of Emiliana.
Jorge overhears Elena and Lorena talking about the secret door in the study. They won't let him into the study. They also don't tell him what they discovered.
thanks so much Jean!
good point about the piano, and about Mondriana's ability to play, a one-of-a-kind talent from how Jorge sees it.
interesting at how upset Elena is that Mondriana was messing with her, that she also wraps in lies like about Carlos, and how she is being cool with Geraldo for now, who is obviously shaken, this is one clever lady, I'm still amazed at how she set everything up in the first place where Geraldo got all of Monica's assets, so nothing was pointing her way, but weren't they going to marry, or Geraldo would later transfer things over to her, this hasn't happened yet, has it?
was that Mondriana's handwriting from Emi's homework, that Cami compared to Monica's diaries, which finally convinced her, that would be creepy if someone's handwriting was identical to your dead mother's.
I would think that Rottweiler would be wanted by the police and his gang dispersed after that last bust, but...
still waiting for Jorge to actually help with something.
it's interesting, as I've seen mentioned, how Geraldo, who did his gigolo thing, exchanging his favors for money, whatever, got involved with Elena, who has managed to totally ruined his life, even making him into a murderer, what will he do now?
Doña Alba is in a coma. Chacorta hugs her body, saying he DOES feel guilty for the life she's in.
AC tortures Mati's three guards. He gets them to admit they work for Chema, by promising that he'll let them go back to Chema and tell him that the Lord of the Skies is alive. AC KILLS the first guard who wouldn't admit it was Chema. He gets the second to admit that Toro shot Alba, and has the guy call Toro and find out where Toro's hiding (in a hotel on the south road). Then he KILLS that guy, saying, you can tell Chema about me. In HELL. AC tells his men to kill the third guy.
He then goes to meet with Mati. She tries to lie, but eventually admits that she only wanted to save Carlitos, but everything went wrong. AC is not happy that that included Alba being shot. He tells Mati he won't kill her (maybe Chacorta will). He also hints they might just kill Carlitos to REALLY hurt Mati!
AC catches Ernie and Ruti cozying up to each other. He dismisses Ruti, tells Ernie (who is acting brave and loyal) that he's going to give him a test. It's very dangerous. We later see Ernie at the hotel where Toro is, dressed as a bellboy, offering Toro and his men drinks. They say no. Ernie tells his guys, they have five inside heavily armed. The main guy says, let's go in guns blazing, and hope to win.
Ernie has a better idea. He goes back in the room, saying he'll get them drinks, and leaves with almost a wink at Toro. Toro follows him into the hall, holds a gun to him, says what's the deal, punk? Ernie says, you're completely surrounded by the Casillas clan. He tells Toro his real name, nephew of the padre. He adds, my boss wants to talk to you. Here's my phone, call me. And don't tell your buddies. You should thank me for saving your life. Will Toro fall for this pack of bull?
Bert arrives from Spain, goes to visit his abuela. But in the hall, he spies Leo!! Yes, she and Ramos are here to investigate. Bert is sort of trapped. He calls AC, who says don't shoot anyone, try to sneak out. But now AC and Chacorta know that Leo and Ramos are in the hospital. So far they can't visit Alba, because the nurse says she already has a visitor (Bert, who actually ducked into a room). The situation is tense.
Elsa has sex with Max, but tells him its the last time for a while, since she fired him as campaign manager, and this wouldn't look good.
Ruti and Victor ask AC what's gonna happen to Matilda? AC says don't ask.
Chema and Tijeras are happy about their latest drugs, 98% pure. They don't realize that AC is getting closer to them, through Lai (and maybe Toro).
Ximena puts her jewelry in a box, and puts on prison garb.
Ignacio wants to go to Culican to help Leo, but Vicky says no, how could you help?
Chacorta confronts Mati, tells her he knows what happened, wants her to admit she's working for Chema. She denies, denies, denies, finally says, FINE! I AM with Chema! And you wanna know why? Because I was tired of you always being second fiddle to AC. Chema is the number one guy in his group. He knows how to be a man. I hate being with LOSERS!!!
Chacorta takes his gun and.....
thanks again Hombre!
I really appreciate your short (but cover all) recaps every day.
I don't know why they didn't grab Toro out in the hallway, or why Toro didn't plug Ernie.
it was smart of Aurelio to keep Chacorta away from Mati, till he got the whole story, and of course AC won't kill her, but I'm running out of reasons why she is still alive. I'm not quite sure what Chacorta's plan is, maybe they want her to flush Chema out first, but he left his gun on the table so maybe she could grab it, but she didn't shoot, did she, but was the gun loaded?
overall they would probably want her off and away from Carlitos when she died so they wouldn't be connected to it, in his eyes.
Well, they laid it on thick that Jennifer is, at the very least, going to probably end up back in Rottweiler's hands. Although I don't see how Elena is going to find him when neither the LAPD nor the FBI (isn't that what kind of cop Eddie is?) can lay hands on the guy.
I like every scene that Rodrigo is in. The guy is just a pro. As is the woman playing Marta.
I was also surprised they skipped all the in between stages and went right to últimos capítulos. That usually means two weeks. They must have made a breakthrough or worked the cast 18 hours per day on Los Mis.
Ricardo was seriously annoying last night as the entitled, thinks he is actually "to the manor born" guy. Both his parents have told him to believe Camila or back off. He doesn't listen. Maybe the writers will surprise us and have her dump him for good.
Thanks, Jean, for the great recap. I loved your snarky and very true comment about the piano and Elena's not dealing with the obvious problem of "Adriana's" being able to play like Monica Serrano.
I wish I knew how long "últimos capítulos" are likely to last. I'm so tired of so many of the threads in this novela, I was ready to stop after last night until the announcement about últimos capítulos. (I enjoyed seeing that both of us posted last night about the u.c. announcement at the very same minute.)
Novelera,
Thanks for the info about últimos capítulos usually lasting two weeks. I guess I can hang on for that long, though I'm not sure.
I liked your suggestion about the writers possibly surprising us and having Camila dump Ricardo for good. I wish I thought the writers had enough imagination and/or guts to do that. Eileen would certainly be happy if that happened, though how long her happiness would last if she spent a lot of time with Ricardo is anyone's guess. I find him such a pill. Eileen deserves someone better.
Thanks, Kelly. I love how the writers let Elena concoct her story without anyone questioning her, especially about her supposed piano skills. It would be nice if Jorge or Mondriana told Cami the truth about Elena and Mondriana. She's manipulated daily by Elena and should know that she killed both of her parents (among others).
I don't recall Emi giving Jorge an answer about living with him. And I wonder what the additional tests will reveal about Emi's illness.
Didn't hear the announcement about ultimas semanas. Wonderful! I guess that means they'll be a lot of drama in the next few weeks.
spanish student
Cami and Ricardo deserve each other - the little prince and sourpuss.
The writers had better find someone for Eileen even if it's in the "meses despues" in the Gran Final. She is the only character I really like. I like Emi, and I agree Novelera that the actors playing Marta and Rodrigo are very good.
This novela was a terrible waste of Jorge Luis Pila and David Chocarro, neither of whom, especially Chocarro, had much of anything to do.
It would be nice if Selma and Jorge got together. I guess no one is going to find out that Carlos killed her boyfriend, whatever his name was and that he died because he tried to help Mondriana.
Muchas gracias Hombre
I don't think Berto is in Alma's room, I think he ducked into the 1st one he found.
As for Ernie, I think he is following the Casillas plan, wanting to be a big guy in the eyes of El Señor. He is handling it beautifully, so far.
When Chacorta laid down the gun, I thought he thought Mati would pick it up, giving him a reason to kill her. I give her a lot of credit for guts.
I thought for a split second that Ernie was serious about wanting to join Chema's team because he wants to move up the ranks quickly. He knows Chacorta's unhappy with him.
I can't even think about what is going to happen to Mati. Even if they don't shoot her, her life will be miserable.
Good point, Jean, about Esteban's murder by Ricalde seemingly having been forgotten. Unless Gerardo somehow confesses that it happened (although he didn't actually see it), it appears Selma won't get closure.
thanks hombre, thats one thing i love about this series, the fact you cant always know what will happen. For example matilde could die and ernie might turn sides.
Ultimos capitulos, yet todays episode was more of a step back - Cami and Ric wining, Jorge backtracking, Gerardo doing absolutely nothing, and Elena's usual plotting. Even the scene with Diego and Eddie was uneventful.
I liked watching Emi stand up for her "mother". She clearly has a stronger personality than Cami who just believed what Elena told her. And Jorge, how can he explain that Mondriana knew about the secret room, plays piano like Monica S., answered his mystery question, and is obsessed with protecting the girls.
And Jenny's pregnant while Gabriel's flirting...
Spanish student
I agree, Spanish Student. Things did not move along.
That scene with Lorena in the secret room was just about unbearable. It drives me nuts to see Elena manipulate idiot Lorena. And Jorge overheard and just about believed her!
Susana tells Jennifer that Gabriel took her to bed. I think there were only some kisses.
Pachuco and Rottweiler are only now looking for the briefcase of money. I thought he raced right over to Ricalde's apartment after talking with Elena.
Yep, Jennifer is pregnant. I'm kind of relieved, because pregnant women, unless they faked one as a villainess are usually safe. She might get grabbed up by Rottweiler, but the writers will protect her for the baby's sake!
Gabriel was definitely flirting, but Eileen running up and pretending to be the mother of his twins was very cute.
Elena figured out that Gerardo's impulsive suggestion that they concentrate on getting married soon was just a way to get her to lay off Mondriana. She's not letting it go, of course. And she has a little trabajito for Pachuco, which surely involves getting rid of Mondriana.
Emiliana is furious with Camila for not even listening to Mondriana's side.
I had exactly the same thought, Novelera, when we found out that Jennifer is pregnant - she's going to make it.
The promo for Señora Acero was back on last night as muy pronto.
Thanks, Novelera. Good to know that Jenny will be save. She's a likeable character and I love her relationship with her in-laws, ditto for the actors who play them.
Spanish student
Matilde says to Chacorta, I'll give you a reason to kill me, I HAVE been allied with Chema, because I hate losers! Chacorta takes the gun, but doesn't shoot. He says he could NEVER shoot the mother of his children. Mati breaks down, the two of them get close, she says I've always loved you, really. He hugs her, they lightly kiss, he says, I loved you, too. But then his hands start gripping her throat, tighter and tighter! As he squeezes the life out of her, he adds, but I could never forgive your betrayal. And KILLS her. Mati is dead!
Chacorta tells AC, who says you did what you had to. Chacorta tells Manotas to get rid of the body, and don't tell anyone. Victor and Ruti pretty much figure out what happened, but are not sure. Of course no one tells Carlitos, just that his mom had to "leave".
Lai,unaware of this, asks Garnica to help get Mati out of the country. Garnica says Mati has gone to a hell where few escape, but he'll see what he can do.
Bert does escape the hospital, is reunited with AC and Ruti. AC wants him to leave the country again.
Santiago begs Ignacio to help Ximena appeal, and he agrees! He's going to show that Ximena's lawyer Max was incompetent, and also that he's tied to Elsa. If this works, Xime could be released, but Elsa could also go down in the polls, helping Vicky.
Elsa tells Lucila she's tired of Max, sex with him was fun when it was screwing over his wife, but she's dead now, so what's the fun in that? And now, he just smells of oldness. Lucila says are you tired of me, too? No, honey, says Elsa, dropping her robe, naked underneath. Why don't you give me one of your famous massages? Lucila smiles.
Toro's men had their food drugged. Ernie's men enter the room and kill them all (except Toro, who escaped). Ernie chops off the guys' fingers, and brings them back to AC as proof. How nice. Toro reports back to Chema that he has the phone number of Ernie, maybe that can help them get to the Casillas's. But this could be a trap. I'm not sure which side Ernie is really on. I think he's with the Casillas's.
But he's not with Chacorta. Chacorta says I've got a sixth sense, and Ernie's hiding something. After he leaves, Ernie says to himself, right you are. I'm gonna get back at you one day! (for killing Padre Lazaro).
The good thing about jail for Ximena is that even though she's short compared to the supermodels like Elsa, Monica, Vicky, etc., in jail, she's sort of tall, because there aren't too many supermodels in jail. The bad thing is, these "ladies" may just want to mess with her. Ooops.
Chacorta tells Bert he can't understand why AC wants to keep Leo alive, it's some crazy plan with Vicky becoming governor.
Leo questions the doctor, holds up a picture of AC, was this guy here? The doc stays mum. Wouldn't it be nice if Leo showed that pic to Vicky?
Lai visits AC and Chacorta, says where's Mati. Chacorta doesn't lie, says she's dead. I killed her with my bare hands. Lai is shocked, tries to hold back the tears, why? Because she was working with Chema. Are you? Lai lies, says no. Now Lai is going to have to walk the tightrope between AC and Chema, the one which Matilde couldn't balance.
I'm a bit disturbed that they're sort of making up feel a little sympathetic to AC, such as showing him when he and Xime were in love, hugging Ruti, etc. I LOATHE the guy. Writers, please don't make him kill Chema and Tijeras and get away scot free. Nothing ever REALLY goes wrong for AC. And innocent people like Lazara, Alba, Victor are the ones getting hurt. Sure, AC is suffering a little, emotionally. But then he always gets his revenge. It's just sick!
The good news? We're in últimos capítulos!
Hombre, your recap was just as exciting as the episode. After Chacorta put the gun down, I just knew he was going to strangle her. What a group! Lai had trouble holding back her emotions; great acting!
You are right about how the writers create sympathy for AC. It makes your head spin because he is such a monster!
Final chapters... Hold on now; it can only get worse.
good observation about the ladies heights,
I noticed awhile back that, especially in Colombian shows, the pretty girls are very tall, thin, and have an exotic look about them, but I never noticed that the ones in jail are all the opposite.
I've found Mati's character pretty hard to take from the first show, but I guess Chacorta could have exiled her to the middle east or something, but that's just not his style, and I think he told Manotas that her name is never to be spoken again.
últimos capítulos eh?, well I don't see Alba jumping up to renew her contract for season 3, could they do a narco show without a mother, and I don't even want to know Chema had one.
why did Ignacio need a gun, and apparently they are hard to get unless you are a bad guy?
and did Casillas men drug the food/drink, I thought they might, and so Toro took off without going back to eat, is that how that happened?
any predictions on Ernie's future?
pretty girl Lucila betrayed Leo and Ponte, which led to his death, but she has never shown any remorse as her attraction to Elsa seems to take precedence.
yep, Lai is walking a thin line now that the Casillas know Mati was working with Chema, and she knows they killed her because of it.
ah yes narco shows,
where nothing ends well for anyone,
and no innocence is left untouched.
Wow! What an exciting episode. Many thanks, Hombre, for the vivid recap. As you know, I'm not watching the show any more, but I was stunned to learn that Mati was killed by Chacorta. I often wonder how much of the script is based on what's best for the plot and how much for the schedule of the actors. Perhaps the woman who plays Mati, Sara Corrales, had another commitment? Or was her character becoming stale?
As for your wish that the writers not make AC seem more sympathetic and yet continue to get away with more horrific acts, my guess is that if there's a season 3 in the works, AC will not get what's coming to him. (The likelihood of a third season was one thing that made me decide to stop watching.)
thanks novelera for putting together a little summary,
I too was surprised that Pachuco and Rottweiler are searching through Carlos' place that had been gone over by the police, maybe it took this long for the police to leave, but what could they hope to find now.
I find it interesting, Emiliana's innocence where there are good people and bad people and what they do, compared to Camila where there is what she has heard about people, and that is what makes them good or bad, if I'm making any sense, as it seems as people get older they loose this innocent way of looking at life.
so was Gabriel going home with that girl, to do a drawing of her dog, should we say?
looks like Ernesto's death is going the way of Estebans, does anyone even care other that Geraldo.
I don't suppose we are looking at Pachuco kidnapping Elena and holding her for ransom, more like Monica once more in harms way to PROVE just how horrible Elena is, but I hope Adriana survives, as Diego has been more than patient with this whole thing.
Thanks to all for saving my sanity with your announcement about ultimos capitulos. I'm behind again and haven't had a chance to watch since Tuesday.
I'm glad they aren't going to recycle plot for an additional month before wrapping up what I have found to be a fun novela.
another super recap Hombre
I was surprised when Chacorta didn't kill Mati & more surprised when he did. I thought maybe he was going to use her to get to Chema.
Sara Corrales has done an excellent acting job the last couple of episodes.
My prediction for Ernie, doomed. He sure is getting into the narco lifestyle very well. Chacorta is too smart for him.
Raul Méndez (Chacorta)IMO is the best actor in this, I hope he wins the best supporting actor award. He is up against Ariel Texido, Gabriel Coronel, Ricardo Chávez, seems to me it s/b in the bag, except I don't know who Ariel Texido is.
Now I'm even more sure Raul Méndez will win unless these awards are as rigged as TV y Novela awards, WHEN SILVIA NAVARRO WASN'T EVEN NOMINATED & victoria ruffo won!!!!.
Want to say thanks for your recaps on Senor. Also to all others who comment. I agree Raul Mendez has been terrific. Also like the actress who portrays Monica--so much passion.

'Les/Los Miserables'
"A classic tale originally published in 1862 about a French peasant who seeks redemption after being imprisoned for stealing a loaf of bread for his sister's child..."

"Señora Acero"
I haven't seen Blanca Soto before, but for those of you who have, I see where she will be using a double, ah, for the action scenes.
