Que Pobres Tan Ricos #147: 7/31/14: Ahole is a Lying Liar That Lies!

Hola Amiguis! What an episode!  I  have an earworm for you  that perfectly describes Ahole and here it is: Charlie Brown

Shall we begin? Frida and her Granny Mati are having a chat about choices it seems. Frida is panicked about this pregnancy and doesn't know what to do. Frida is scared. It's okay but Granny has her back, she'll support Frida in anything she decides, now what about Tizoc. Frida says no one knows, especially Tizoc. Granny wants Frida to tell him, it's only right. Frida feels Tizoc is not ready for a girlfriend much less a bebe.

AS is tasting salsas and is unhappy with what she is tasting, oh, how she misses Carmelita's salsas, wow, who knew! Leo comes in and wants to go on a vacay to New York and she'd like to come with, but Leo wants to go alone.

Tomas and Lupe are discussing an annulment. He  doesn't think it will be possible because of Emi, and the quick divorce is out because they haven't been married long enough, you have to be married a year he tells Lupe, Thanks Julie. This still won't solve the custody issue, the divorce, because Ahole has rights to see Emi (Thanks Marta and Julie).

Guendy is talking to Rita and will take her to meet the Menchaca, they have the best food in La Nopalera. Guendy shows Rita her engagement ring and also tells her who she is engaged to. One Banana King Nepomucen. Rita has the deer in the headlights look!

Saul and MA take a meet and Saul is very happy that MA is finally the President of the bidnez. MA only took the position cause he wants to unmask Ahole for who and what he really is, a fraudster.

Guendy and Rita are at the Fonda and Rita is introduced to everyone, she hits it off with Don C, cause she saw him in a match. He's happy to hear it and she used to be a lucador named La Hiedra Venenosa, Poison Ivy. (Thanks Jarifa)!  Rita loves the food at the Fonda, and she talks about needing a place to live. It would only be for a little bit, so Don C offers to rent her a room, and Perla isn't happy. Carmelita tells Rita she has to share the bathroom, but Rita is okay with that. Don C and the family show her the old RP Penthouse, and she's happy with it. She'll move in as soon as Don C tells her the rent, etc. That will be manana, and Perla has to take her things out of there. Perla isn't happy, and Perla tells Tizoc that one day she will have a real Penthouse with a roof top garden.

The lying liar has come to see Vilma in the hoosegow. Vilma isn't happy that that senile old woman (Dona Mati) has run him out of the Presidency, how could he have let that happen? Ahole cannot let MA be the President. Vilma tells Ahole she has been accused of the money laundering and fraud and no, he doesn't have to worry, there is no proof leading to Ahole. Vilma made sure of that, she won't give him the evidence until she gets out of the jail. Thanks Karen. He wants her to have patience. Vilma isn't trusting Ahole though. What she's really ticked off about is that she has been accused of killing Adolfo, and Ahole is shocked I tell you, no way he says. Vilma tells Ahole she isn't stupid, stop treating her that way. Ahole tries to tell her one of Bambi's guys probably killed Adolfo. Vilma has a flash back to the day of Adolfo's shooting, hearing the shot and then Ahole giving her that gun to put up for him, so to speak. Vilma tells Ahole she knows he killed Adolfo the only man that ever loved her. Ahole assures Vilma it wasn't just Adolfo that loved her, he intimates that he loves Vilma too. Really, she's a great woman. Ahole tells her that Dona Mati is not long for this world, have some patience and Ahole won't forget about Vilma. Poor Vilma buys Ahole's crap, hook, line and sinker.

Lupe is at the Fonda and can't beleive that Don C is renting out the old RP Penthouse. How much does he know about this woman? He tells Lupe to take a chill, well, he met this woman through Guendy. Rita is okay and she's moving in manana. Lupe isn't happy. Tomas comes to talk to Perla. They go off to the sala and Tomas asks her how she feels, she swears she stopped taking the pills now and he's happy. Tomas is sorry he ratted her out, about the pills, but she feels she has a great body without them.He asks her out and she tells him if he takes her to get some jumbo shrimp they can work it out. They smile at each other (Thanks Marta)!

AS and the rest of the RP's are having dinner and AS is very happy that MA is now the President. Leo brings up he is going to New York when MA asks what he is going to do with his life. MA is not giving up the Juice bidnez, much to AS' chagrin and Mati's delight. Seems Leo is not only going to New York for vacay he is going there to live. I think he said he wants to go back to school there. MA will be keeping a tight rein on the finances. He will pay the school directly and the place he lives. AS is very unhappy. She feels living with the Menchaca kept Leo close to her. She needs to get life, Thanks Julie!

There is another meeting with the lovable Zombies, MA, Ahole and Dona Mati. They congratulate Dona Mati on her choice of President, as Ahole looks like he wants to hurl. They tell MA they hope that he will keep the Company in the tradition of his Grandparents and MA agrees with them. The meeting is over. Mati asks for a private word with Ahole.

Mini and Isela are panicking in Mini office. Mini and Isela are worried they are all washed up at El Editorial. MA calls Mini to his office and Isela tells her to use her, er shake her assets, not really, but to use her feminine wiles. Mini goes.

Mati has Ahole sit and she wants to know the situation with Lupe. Divorce her there is no other option. Ahole tries to tell Mati that Lupe is like two different people when she is with Ahole, she isn't all sweetness and light with Emi, especially when Mati isn't around. He loves being Emi's Papa and doesn't want Lupe to keep Emi from him. He'll talk to Lupe but what Mati wants will take a couple three days. He thanks Mati for her support and she assures him he isn't alone. No Mati, no! He says he wants to be a good Daddy, liar, liar, pants on fire!

MA wants to know how Mini ended up becoming the head of the Models, and she shows him the cover of the magazine with Perla on it. She made that choice. She has a flair and a knack for this job. She even brown noses him and apologizes for the "Lupe incident" MA ends up giving Mini a second chance at the job as long as she stays professional and doesn't wander into sexual harrasement territory, well not that, but stays professional. She is a modern and independant woman after all and she struts her assets out of MA's office. Mini goes back to her office and squees to her Mama Isela that MA gave her a second chance at the job, but Isela reminds her Dona Mati is still here. Isela tells Mini either MA is an Angel or just stupid. Isela also reminds Mini she won't be able to get away with anything.

Mati has come to the Fonda with a lawyer and she is meeting with the Menchaca. MA has brought her there, and Perla and Tizoc give MA a hard time, until Don C tells them to stop it. Mati has her lawyer give Don C some papers and Mati tells him as soon as he signs this paperwork he will be the owner of his home forever and ever, no more worries. Everyone is very happy and Mati asks Lupe where Emi is, she wants to hug her great grandson. He's changing Lupe says. We'll get to Emi in a tic.

AS, Chabella, and Beba are in an art gallery, and Beba doesn't like the work of the artist. AS loves the work this artist is very popular in Japan, the U.S. and Europe and AS thinks Beba is uneducated. Oh and the Ladies of the Foundation have now reaccepted AS back into the fold. They also liked AS' donation she is now a cross between Mother Teresa and Angelina Jolie. AS invites the two to her home manana for a get together and AS takes her leave with Da Vinci.

Where is Emi? Talking to his devil of a Daddy. Ahole continues to lie and tells Emi that Mati is a wonderful Granny, but she has always loved MA more. Emi is happy she's okay. Ahole does his best to change Emi's opinion of Mati. Emi is sure that Ahole is a good guy, he is Emi's Dad after all. Now Ahole tells Emi that Lupe wants to divorce him. He wasn't going to tell him, but if Ahole disappears from Lupe's life then of course he'll disappear from Emi's too. Where is Ahole's anvil!

AVANCES:

Ahole continues to blackmail Lupe.

Good Morning Y'all,

The recap is up. Please let me know if I missed anything, it is always much appreciated.

Mads thank so much for this great recap. Your title was spot on.

I am not enjoying this pseudo-resolution that allows Alejo to continue to menace Lupe and lie to everyone. I also am disgusted that AS has not been exposed for stealing from the Menchacas and her recent power of attorney forgery. It seems she will get no anvil.

Julie and Julia's post from yesterday on forgiveness sum up my frustration w/this tns and others on the topic. I understand we have to forgive but why is it for most of the female characters that means allowing the toxic person into their live to do more damage? Why can't the bad person be on time out until s/he demonstrates s/he has actually changed? With Mati, her nieto tried to kill her. If he'd try to take your life and you raised him what would he do to others who get in his way?

On Robo, the toxic mother is forgiven but its the daughter who has allowed mom back in her house to everyone's detriment. The son is able to keep a healthy distance from evil mom as he only visits her when he can.

It will be interesting to see what Mati reveals to Emi and how he reacts.

I can hold out a little hope for Vilma because she didn't give Alejo the evidence and won't until she gets out. I wish MA or someone would tape what Alejo says about her in meetings so she can stop the madness.

Tom said an annulment might be a problem if Ahole doesn't cooperate, and an express divorce is out of the question because they haven't been married long enough to qualify.

Rita isn't just connected to a luchador... she IS a former luchador.

Kinda funny, when Gwendy wanted to take Rita to the market to meet Nepo, Rita was like no, not right now.

Karen, I'm hoping that Mati's "forgiveness" does not extend to giving Ahole a free pass for all eternity. Hopefully she didn't buy any of what Ahole was selling. I'd like to think she's smart enough to know better. In keeping with her "keep your enemies closer" philosophy, she might even be setting a trap for him. Let's hope a bunch of other people don't break their necks tripping over it first.

It was sad when AS told Leo that the one good thing about living with the Menchacas was being so close to Leo every day. She really needs to get a life. She's not going to find what she needs with the harpies at the cloob.

So AS is writing very large checks on big gobs of RP money for charity? What?? I assume this is part of her strategy to keep the family fortune safe from Ahole, but I don't quite get how it's going to work. But I hope she has something special in mind for the Foundation ladies at her little party, whenever "tomorrow" turns out to be.

Mads, great recap!
abouty Tomas and Lupe convo... it was not all good news he delivered... she was asking about terminating her marriage to A-hole, he said better forget annulment, cause of Emi. and even if she got a divorce, that would not solve the problem of Emi's shared custody. A-hole as the father has rights... Lupe is worried.

Tomas also had the good scene with Perla.. at first he appologized to her for tattle-telling on her taking her pills, she said she doesn't take them anymore, she still has a great bod without 'em. He was relieved and asked her out, she said if you take me to a place where I can get giant shrimp, we can work it out.. this is why they were both smiling happy at the end of scene.
MA in convo with Saul told him that he wanted to lead over both businesses because he wants to grow the juice one... he doesn't want to be prez of the corporate but he has to be there in order to discover what is behind A-hole's schemes. He knows there is something much bigger behind the 'fraud' he wanted to frame MA with... (and he is right of course, as we know... using the business for his dirty MONEY LAUNDERING deals).
Vilma pointed this out to A-hole too during his visit to her.
I can't believe Vilma is still buying A-hole's stories, since now she did conclude he killed Adolfo. She should know better, so if she ends up bad she made that bed all by herself.

Where are my manners? Thank you for the recap, Madelaine.

I am not so sure that Perla was making googoo eyes at Tomas (though obviously he was making googoo eyes at her). She enjoys his attention/flattery and she's looking forward to having giant shrimp cocktail, but I don't know if she's really interested in Tom. I hope that if they do end up together, we'll be able to understand why because it's a mystery to me.

Is anyone else wondering how Vilma is getting along in prison? (Or is it still only jail so far?) She typically doesn't have very good people skills, and even with her martial arts training I would think she'd be at a disadvantage if they were to gang up on her.

Mads, thank you for a fantastic recap!

I loved:

Rita the wrestler aka : La Hiedra Venenosa (Poison Ivy).

I hope: Doña Mati is tempering her "forgiveness" of Alejo with her intelligence and good common sense and there is more she is thinking about that the viewer doesn't know.

I hated:

Minerva, Isela, Minerva, Vilma and Alejo all waiting for doña Mati to die.

The best: Doña Mati is proving to be the comfort and voice of reason thst Frida needs.

Another good one!

Jarifa

Good Afternoon Y'all:

Thanks to all of you for the added bits and stuff I got wrong, I have fixed the recap, except of the Tomas bit with Perla. I will fix that too.

I think Mati didn't buy Ahole's song and dance, especially about the stuff he said about Lupe. She was looking at him long and hard. She just wants him to know, I think, that he isn't alone. Lot of good that is going to do. I was nervous he was all alone with her in her office.

I am glad MA is going to grow the juice bidnez cause at the rate AS is going through the money, who knows how much will be left.

Karen:

It's very right what you said about Ahole. I know Mati loves him, but she really ought to be cautious with him. She ought to kick him to the curb until he straightens out. Send him to a branch of the company far away, and see how he performs, and then maybe have him come back. I bet he'd tank the branch too.

Not a spoiler, because it's very obvious from the looks and reaction of Rita to the mention of Nepo's name that she is Diego's long lost mother and STILL Nepo's wife. Wonder how her good friend Guendy will react to that.

It's funny to see how much AS misses the humble Mexican cuisine she SO disparaged while living with the Menchacas, to the point of making her cooks make the salsas in a molcajete!

Ahole was certainly laying it on with a shovel last night. I think the only person who bought it hook line and sinker was Emilhole although both Vilma and Lupe may have accepted more of the BS than Mati. She didn't look like she was buying a bit of it.

I don't think Gwuendy mentioned Nepo by name only her fiancee but rita seemed more interested in getting a room.

Speaking of the room, poor Perla is ousted from the penthouse and I was surprised by how negative Lupe was about someone renting it. It didn't sound like her at all.

I am just dying for the face to face between Diego and or Nepo with Rita. That should bring some fireworks and a female luchadora!

It is fun to see that AS misses, although she would never admit it, some of the things from the Menchaca stay. Laughed when she wa mumbling about Carm and the food. Wonder what she will serve at her reintroduction to society soiree.

Thanks Madelaine. Your title says it all.

On the surface, it seems that Mati believed Alejo when he was expressing his feelings about Emi. But if Emi acts coldly to Mati when he sees her again, I think she's going to figure out what is happening.

Yes, Rita was a wrestler herself, that could explain why she left the family. But wouldn't Don Chuy know her from his wrestling days?

I'm annoyed that MA is keeping Minnie around. She's only going to stir up trouble.

Decie:

Guendy did mention Nepo's full name but I didn't catch his last name. And she also prefaced it with Banana King too. The look on Rita's place was priceless!

Julie:

I agree with you about AS she does need to get life or how about treating Frida better and helping her out, well maybe not now because of the pregnancy.

I think Lupe was upset about Chuy renting the room because they hadn't discussed it first. Considering the nightmare they'd been through with the RPs, she wasn't expecting to find another stranger living on her roof so soon. Normally there would have been a family meeting and an agreement to advertise a room for rent and meet the prospective tenants before accepting a new housemate (even for just a few weeks, because don't forget the RPs were originally only supposed to be there for a few days and look how that turned out).

Seldom has Chuy ever done anything behind Lupe's back, so I can understand why it was upsetting for her to come home to this.

Chuy didn't know Rita because she only wrestled when she was living in the US.

yes, Gwendy showed Rita her engagement ring and said 'my fiancee is none other than the King of banana, NE!!' and she did say his whole name. we get the deer in headlights face on Rita and next thing she is sitting with the family at the fonda dining area.

Mads- Thanks so much. I really enjoyed the recap-- the episode, not so much. The only good thing that happened was Frida opening up with Mati and finally having someone to talk to about her fears. I like how honest she was. One of the things she said is that she's not sure she and Tizoc are in love-- they just have a lot of chemistry. I thought this was a nice bit of realism, as these tns too often make it seem that a baby can only result from true love (on at least the side of one person), or from pure evil. Sometimes two good people are just hot for each other and a pregnancy results if they aren't careful. Thus is the case of Frida and Tizoc. It makes it harder to know where this storyline will lead when Frida and Tizoc aren't madly in love and likely to be walking down the aisle by the end of this tn.

Anon- I think most of us figured Rita was Nepo's ex as soon as she walked into Gwendy's salon. Her reaction at Nepo's name last night, and then avoiding going to meet him, pretty much confirms it. My hope is that since she seems to like Gwendy, she will quickly sign the divorce papers so that Nepo and Gwendy can wed.

Thanks, Madelaine!

Can you really not do the express divorce if you've been married less than a year? That makes no sense. I would think those ill-conceived marriages where at least one party realizes quickly it was a mistake, and they haven't been together long enough to accumulate a lot of complications like shared property or children (in most cases), would be the best candidates for a swift divorce.

I'm disappointed that Vilma realized Ahole killed Adolfo and she is still lapping up the crumbs he throws her. I thought that would be her limit. Oh, well, rot in prison forever, Vilma.

It would seem like Rita must have come back to La Nopalera to see Diego and maybe also Nepo (perhaps she wants to get that divorce taken care of? Or maybe she's wondering how her son is doing so long after she abandoned him?). Yet she seems to be in no hurry to actually go see them. I suppose it's possible she isn't Diego's mother and has some other reason to be there, but either way she definitely knows Nepo and has emotions regarding him!

Mati may have saintly unconditional love for her bad seed grandson, but I hope she has a plan to contain him. Like others have mentioned, she knows that he tried to kill her. He kept her drugged up for years, and just recently drugged her up and left her for dead in a bad neighborhood. If he'll do that to the granny who took care of him and still loves him no matter what, what would he do to his enemies?! She should be more worried about that.

I still see no reason for Tomas to be interested in Perla. I hope if they do end up together, we see some reason he would want her, and that she is genuinely into him. He deserves better than a flake who just wants to go out for a nice dinner.

Are they giving these last episodes complete?

thanks for the recap Madeline! I can't stay up late enough to watch most of the time, but I turn to the recaps first thing in the morning!

I am hoping Mati is thinking farther and faster than she is letting on. I agreed with her when she suggested Ahole is capable of even worse if she denounced him too. Keeping him close, MA as president has a good chance of uncovering more of his bad deeds. Can she really make Ahole get a divorce??? I fear for what he may try in these last weeks.

I was so hoping Vilma was going to start working Ahole instead of being worked by him. How can she miss?

I like to think that Perla could suddenly grow out of her immaturity. She acts like a 14 year old. Maybe she just needs an emotional growth spurt?

Angie Velez:

As far as I know they are not cutting any episodes of this TN. The TN that replaces this one, La Malquerida doesn't start until August 25th.

Julia, I sure don't see any potential in Perla to become a 'married woman' let alone a mom... i agree, Tomas should find someone with more 'depth'.
Isn't it weird that one novela is starting on Aug 18 at 9pm and another one on Aug 25 at 10pm and we have yet to see 'Ultimos Capitulos' announced in either LQLVMR or QPTR?? we usually see UC announcement about 4 weeks before finale and then the actual finale date about 10 days before finale. but not now. unless they plan to do that silly 'half hour the old one and half hour the new one' to try to get us hooked on the new ones coming...
I for one, although would love to see Christian M and Brandon Peniche again, can't stand VR's neverending cracked faucet. I will just stick with MCET for now. but might watch some of HEFDM when i can.

Julie, are you doing the recap tonight or do you want me to pick that one up too?

I saw "ultimas semanas" announced for QPTR last week or the week before.

Julia:

I assumed you can get a quick divorce anytime, but maybe not. Interesting. I hope Lupe files anyways, the heck with what Ahole tries on her now. All she has to do is confide in Dona Mati and Ahole is toast. As a matter of fact, Lupe should know better concerning Ahole cause she knows how he lies. I think she is so afraid of losing Emi, she is going along with Ahole and he's counting on that too.

Fishknits:

I think Mati has everything on the ball. I agree that Perla acts like a teenager, but then again her Papa has over protected her, since Lupe got preggers by Ahole, as a way, I think to prevent the same thing happening. I think Don C should have been more on the ball with Tizoc, cause look what happened there!

Well, Don C did tell Tizoc not to wrestle without a mask...but he should have also educated him on condom failure rates and told him not to ONLY rely on them. Two methods minimum, people!

Marta, I'm doing tonight's recap and I'm darned excited about it and I've got a bunch of earworms just waiting for me to open the can. :-)

Mads, Tom did say you have to be married for a year to take advantage of the express divorce. But perhaps that isn't true everywhere in Mexico? Or maybe this is the sort of thing that's subject to plot convenience.

With Frida admitting that it might only be chemistry between her and Tizoc, I'm hoping against hope that this still leaves the door open for her to be with Tom. Even though there's never been a hint of attraction between them before, I don't think it's any worse and idea than having Perla end up with him. He's gonna get sick of feeding shrimp to Perla every night.

And Tizoc can date that Vanessa chick from his old band, or every one of his dippy fresa fans, for all I care. He does seem to miss Frida, though.

Oh Julia:

I had forgotten about the wearing the mask thingy. Did Tizoc actually follow that advice? I wonder.

Marta:

I'll be watching La Malquerida, cause well, it's Christian Meir, what a hunk he is, when VR cries, I mute the sound, lol. When she's done I turn it back on, no biggie and I like AD. It's a rancho type but looks really interesting from the promos I've seen. Africa Zavala is also in it.

Julie,

Thank you about the quick divorce time line. You can only get a quick divorce in the D.F. It isn't available anywhere else in Mexico. Jarocha, I think, gave us info on it.

Julie, I hope Frida does get together with Tomas! She is quite realistic about the limits of her feelings for Tizoc. Not to mention, when they were together he was usually pretty judgmental, always getting on her case when something about La Nopalera or nacos was unfamiliar or unappealing to her, but without showing any tolerance or understanding of her background and quick to turn on her over any perceived slight. Tomas is more compatible with her, and would make a great stepfather.

Julia- ITA about Tizoc. I notice how once they got together Frida stopped calling him a naco, but he never stopped calling her a fresa or calling out her fresa behaviors, instead of just accepting her as she is.

Julie, ok that gives me the evening off to help daughter do some school shopping.
Mads, I would watch, but i want to get the habit of getting up real early in the morning to fix daughter breakfast for her senior year, and if i am going to be up at 5 or so i can't stay up until after 11. but i might tape it and ffwd anything that doesn't have CM or BP on screen. I think CM had his best work in Luz Maria and La Tormenta. Zorro was ok. but not sure how he will be here.

Jarifa, besides Adolfo being killed off, who's on the Dead Pool Hit List on this TN ?

Marta:

Yes, please tape it if you can. I adore CM. The only thing I've seen him in is Zorro, and he was fabulous in that, I loved that TN. Light and fluffy with some drama thrown in, lol. I watched it on Youtube, because the DVD never came up for sale, and I missed it the couple times it was on Telemundo.

Of all the ones I've watched, I believe this is the telenovela with the lowest body count ever.

Well...there was that chicken that Frida tried to save.

I am liking the low body count. Still not happy about Adolfo. But it's nice not to have a lot of deaths and funerals. We also haven't spent a lot of time in hospitals on this show, which is a refreshing change.

I wish that when AS was trying to coerce Leo into spending time with her, with her "I am your mother, the being who gave you life!" guilt-trip, he would ask her how much time she spent with HER mother, the being who gave her life. If the writers aren't going to punish her, they could at least flesh out her backstory more and let her get called on her crap.

And then Leo should go visit Diego and they can talk about mother issues.

I was just about to say that I'd be thrilled if Leo would stand up to AS just once - but then I realized that in a way he did stand up to her, by saying that he's going to NY to finish school. (And suddenly, AS is all in favor of Mexican universities. LOL.)

Granted Leo lived in NY before, but this will be different because he's willing to get by on limited funds. I think he's actually hoping to put some space between himself and his mother for a while so that he can get his head together.

He can have one more escapade with his friends, and then buckle down and figure out what he wants to do with the rest of his life, romantically and professionally.

Marta, you are wonderful to fix breakfast for your daughter every morning.

Mads and Julia, Tizoc isn't very bright, so it's possible that he took the advice to wear a "mask" a little too literally. ;-)

HAHAHA! I want a flashback of THAT nookie scene!

No wonder Frida isn't too keen on getting back with him.

Can you imagine Frida's future awkward conversations with her child?

"Mama, where did I come from?"

"Well, when a technically adult but immature man and woman have the hots for each other, sometimes they climb in bed, and the man puts on a luchador mask and the woman has uncontrollable giggle fits, and they do a special kind of wrestling that makes a baby grow."

THAT won't give the kid nightmares.

Thanks for the recap, Madelaine. I think Mati was giving Alejo some searching looks as he was spouting his nonsense to her. I trust her to give him just enough rope to hang himeself.

I liked her approach with Frida and am counting on Mati to be Frida's rock in this situation. Not sure that Tizoc will man up sufficiently.

La Paloma, I've got this bad feeling Dona Mati won't survive by the time of the very last episode of this TN.
