La Gata #19- Thu 9/25 - La Llegada

Gata gets right to the point--she needs money for the kids.  Don Italiano was hoping they could take things slow.  That's ok, though, he can live without romance as long as she agrees to be a decent wife to him…and maybe give him a little love.  They're not off to a good start when Gata turns her face instead of kissing him.  Damian shows up before Meatball gets too violent…but it looks like Damian might be bringing the violence.

Rita and Jarocha argue because Rita's an evil old hag.  A selfish, evil old hag.  A selfish, evil old hag who uses people.

Gata gets yelled at by both guys.  Both guys yell at each other.  Damian headbutts Meatball.  I guess he's a meat patty now.  Damnit, Damian, you've already got a record for assault!  Gata keeps pleading with Damian that she needs the money for the kids, but instead of just telling her that he's going to give her money, he keeps telling her not to make a deal with Meatball.  Meatball says this is a "now or never" offer.  This is a lot of arguing back and forth that's going nowhere.  Damian finally hauls Gata out of the pizzeria while Meatball yells at her that she's stupid.

Los Negrete + Monica are back in Mexico.  Omar showed up about five seconds after they got there, which is too late for Lorenza.  Pablo thinks about Esmeralda.

Rita wants to smack Gata around for refusing Meatball.  She mocks Gata for accepting a few lousy pesos from Damian.  Rita gets an upgrade to a safe with a stick of dynamite for calling the twins bastards.  She wants to kick Gata out so she doesn't hear the babies crying all night…and because Gata won't get money the way Rita wants her to.  She tells Gata to go beg Pablo's mom to let her move in and claims all Gata's ever done is live "de arrimada" (as a hanger-on) so it won't be any big whoop.  Really, Rita?  Of the two people having this argument, you think GATA is the freeloader?  She then suggests moving in at Damian's and letting him, Mercedes, and Jarocha support her.  And with that, Rita tells her meal ticket to move out.

The Negretes are back together.  Except, oh wait…aren't we missing VIRGINIA!  Bunch of creeps.  I'm ignoring this conversation about Pablo's recovery from his pneumonia and his decision to marry Monica, but not right this minute.  Oh, and by the way, he got married--Mariano interrupts him to say they all already know.  "And not only that, but your marriage has been annulled."  Cara de impactado de Pablo.  Mariano is tired of all the lying and tells Pablo as soon as they found out he was married, Augie and Mariano took steps.  Lorenza gets defensive.  Mariano says he felt bad, but it was all for the best, because he saved Pablo the trouble of getting a divorce.  Augie explains that if they hadn't done this, those babies would have carried the Negrete name and "that woman" would have made him a laughingstock.

Gata puts the babies to sleep at Jarocha's.  Neither one of them really thinks Rita was serious about throwing Gata out.  Just like she hasn't been serious about it the last however-many times she's done it.  Damian shows up and says he and his boss agreed that Gata has to leave Rita, for her own well-being, and they're going to give her everything she needs.  Jarocha wants to kiss him for it.  I admit, Damian is growing on me.  (He's still not as charming as Carlos, but he's getting there).  What wasn't entirely clear to me is whether the intention is for Gata to move into "their" house, as in Damian and Mercedes' place in La Barranca or "their" house, as in the new fancy digs.  I say go for the big house.  And hire a nanny .

Pablo pouts and thinks about the last time he saw Gata…crying…begging him not to leave…"the hypocrite!" Annnnnd you lost me, Pabs.  Vero brings him some milk (Vero has lines again!  Drink!)  and tells him the house has been so empty without him and Virginia.  2nd drink for Vero being the first person to acknowledge the existence and/or absence of  Virginia.  Pablo asks her for the latest gossip, even though they both know the nosy maid always knows more.  She tells him Esme did come to the house once.  Dun, dun, dun!

Gata and somebody scavenge in the dump and then rush to meet Jarocha.

Pablo realizes he's been lied too about some things, but Vero is nervous about telling him any more.  She admits Esme talked to Lorenza, but she doesn't know what they talked about.  And after that, they were all forbidden to let Esme into the house.  She rushes out of the room after that, as does Pablo, and the nosy maid emerges from around a corner.  So help me, nosy maid, if you get Vero fired, I will kick you in the shins!

Pablo goes out to the car, where Omar expositions a bit so that we will know that Pablo has been back in the country for a few months now, but has been at the ranch, presumably with the rest of the family and Monica.  Pablo wants to see Esme, but Omar's job is on the line if he helps Pablo see her.  Once again, the nosy maid is seeing and hearing all.  Pablo needs to know if everything he's been told is true before he moves on with his life.  He needs to see her face-to-face.  He wants Omar to take him over to Gata's.

The effin' no-good, dirty, rotten, sneaking, chismosa, metiche, soplona, desgraciada de Dorila runs to tell Lorenza that Vero talked to Pablo.  And Vero is now fired.  But wait, there's more…Ms. Beady (choke on them!) will need to fire all the staff, because Pablo's now talking to Omar, and Omar's probably going to take him to see Gata.  "Gosh, Señora, if Pablo talks to her it's going to undo all you and the Señor's hard work!"  Lorenza says only Augie can put an end to Pablo's "whims" and storms off, leaving la malvada de Dorila to gloat.  Oh, you'll get yours, lady.  We'll see who has the last laugh.

Out at the car, Pablo claims he's just going for a ride and he won't take long.  Lorenza babbles and pleads, but she doesn't really have a convincing reason to keep him there…until Augie shows up with Virginia.  You gonna fire her too, Lorenza?  'Cause she's got incriminating info.  The Pablo-Esme reunion is thus postponed.  And as happy as I am to see Virginia, Lorenza and Augie are jerks for sending her away and bringing her back based on whatever was most convenient to their nefarious plans.

Fernando's new lawyer (I'll remember his name eventually) meets with Fernando and Damian.  The paperwork Fernando gave him is going to be helpful for reopening the case.  Damian explains that Agustin Negrete is the reason Fernando was in jail so long.  The lawyer recognizes his name, but says it would be a pleasure to take down Augie.  A lot of things about his money and fame now make sense to him.  Fernando had a public defender and all the witnesses were bought.  The lawyer says he'll have his justice.

That's one question answered…Gata has moved in to Damian and Mercedes' house.  Rita's playing nice now, calling the babies her "grandchildren."  She tries to pick through what Gata and the new and unnamed friend collected at the dump.  She tries to say that she always treated Gata like a daughter, and if her pants aren't on fire, it's only because she isn't wearing pants.  Gata flashes back to working with Jarocha to pack up her stuff and having Rita come in and accuse her of stealing and then start throwing all her stuff out the window.  Rita even curses her and Gata wishes her love and peace in return.  Gata mentions it's dinner time and asks Rita to leave.  Rita tries to invite herself over and whines about being hungry and not having any food, so Gata packs some up and tells her to go eat it somewhere else.  Gata's new friend…who desperately needs a name…is amazed at what Gata has had to put up with from Rita all these years.  "What?   That?  That was rainbows and teddy bears in comparison!"  Gata leaves her new friend with the babies while she goes to visit Fela.

Virginia cries while Pablo says he missed her.  Nope, sorry…nobody gets to say they missed Virginia except for Carlos.  Nobody even mentioned her the entire time she was gone, except for him.  Anyway, she wants to change the subject…before she left, she had something to tell Pablo…about Esmeralda….  Pablo says no, he's not over her, and was going to go find her.  Virginia encourages him to do it because they have  a LOT to talk about.  As much as Pablo wants to close the book, it just hurts too much.  Oh, cry me a river, Pablo!  Virginia says her friend Carrrrrlos said that Esme was missing him something fierce.  Pablo says that can't be…she's with another guy now.  But Virginia knows better.  She doesn't think he should be throwing away his chance at happiness just because someone fed him a bunch of lies.

Gata, Fela and New Girl are done with dinner and Gata has a surprise for Fela.  Some pretty porcelain doll figurines.  New Girl's name is Maria.  Fela thinks the new figurines are friends for her daughter and starts introducing them.

Lorenza and Augie meet in the Den of Inequity (that's right, inEQUITY) to plot.  Augie isn't really taking Lorenza's panic seriously.  He'll get Rita to help.  Rita will do anything for the right amount.  He tells her this will all be resolved by tomorrow, guaranteed.

Rita goes to visit Don Italiano to beg for a slice.  "Only if I poison it!"  Meatball now hates Gata, and Rita too.  Ah, but Rita is offering him a chance at revenge.  A chance to teach Gata that she can't mess around with a man like him.

Augie furiously tears up some paperwork that shows that Fernando is closing in on him.  Lorenza insists they have to keep operating as if there's nothing going on.  She wants him to hire Mariano so Mariano doesn't get suspicious, but according to Augie, if he hires Mariano, Mariano will figure out that everything they have was stolen.  And Lorenza is his accomplice in that.  What they have to do now is face the consequences.

Fernando and Damian have breakfast al fresco.  Fernando and Damian are both happy about the progress on the revenge gig.  Damian says that to him Fernando has been like an angel.  He brings up Esme and how much she'd like to thank him in person.  Fernando decides he needs to quit hiding from everyone and should at least hang out with the cool people.  Damian can invite Esme to dinner any night he wants to and Fernando will meet her and let her know that they have something in common.  They've both been done wrong by the Martinez Negretes.

Gata is excited about getting her primary school diploma today.  She's brushed Fela's hair and put a bunch of flowers in it.  This reminds Fela of when she used to sing.  That gets Gata's attention, and she pulls out the picture of her mother, but Jarocha's knock at the door scares Fela and distracts Gata.  There's yet another knock and Damian arrives.  Gata tells him the kids are doing better since they changed their formula.  Damian invites her to dinner and tells her that the person responsible for Silencioso's long prison sentence was Augie.

Augie tells Lorenza the problem is solved.  Rita's taking care of things.  But he's still worried about Fernando.  And he's even more worried because Fernando seems to know more about Augie than Augie knows about him.  All he knows is Fernando's out to bring him down.  And Augie thinks he can do it.

Jarocha tells Gata to leave the Martinez Negretes to the devil.  When Fela hears the name, she tells Gata not to go to them…they're bad people.  Gata looks like there might be a little mental math going on.

Pablo is thinking of Gata at their usual appointed time, though he admits that he thinks of her ALL the time.  He can't decide whether she's forgotten about him or whether she's thinking of him too. He really wants to know what she talked about with his mother.

Gata insists those people are the grandparents of her children, even if it's only by blood.  Jarocha encourages her to go to the dinner.  Gata is preoccupied with thinking about Pablo.

Lorenza discovers that Pablo escaped from the house.  For once La Metiche didn't interfere with Pablo or even bother asking where he was going OR running to tell Lorenza.  They all know he's gone looking for Gata.  Lorenza is miffed.

Pablo goes to Rita's and finds Meatball there, claiming Gata is his wife.  Seriously, Pablo, if you believe that after Rita told you that Gata married El Pocho and was having his babies, I'm going to slap the rest of the pneumonia right out of you!

Tomorrow: Gata accepts; Pablo pouts; Gata…confronts?

So...do you think they're finally ready to rev things up? Virginia is back, Pablo is back, Fernando's got the wheels of justice rolling...seems like we're heading into a new phase.

That was a mighty fine recap, Kat. Loved the name calling for the bad characters.

I think Dorila's main function is to lurk and follow, or should I say skulk. Her uniforms are ugly and creepy, probably designed to make her blend with the walls. Repulsive as she is, she does get credit for being cleaner than Rita.

Rita--aaaargh! She and Dorila need to be chained together and fastened to a tree in the ravine. Preferably one with a large anthill next to it. Rita can bitch, whine, and complain her endless twaddle to Dorila. Dorila can comment occasionally in her servile sneering way. Snakes and vultures could visit at will.

Scouting reports indicate Team Fernando is stronger and better prepared than Team Augie. Looking forward to the combat.

Kat, I put Oct. 15, 16 on my calendar to recap. Will need to route through you or Sara.

La Paloma, I love your scenario for Rita and Dorila. I'm going to thoroughly enjoy the comeuppances for the two of them.

Thank you! I've updated my calendar. I vote they go through Sara so they have a chance of getting posted at a decent hour. Do you have Sara's email address?

Kat, I don't have Sara's email, so I will need that before mid Oct. Thanks!

Wow, wonderful, super great snarky recap, 5ft! Loved it! Especially since I missed the first 15 minutes.

Did I hear correctly that Pabs was sent to convalesce at the family ranch for several months after getting back from New York? Shouldn't the babies look bigger by now? I guess my time line is a bit blurry.

Also, does Silent Guy still have no clue that he is living next door to Augie and Lorenza? It appears not. Can't wait for tomorrow night: the fur, as they say, will fly.

Does anyone see a future for Lorenza and Augie scrabbling through the cr8p piles at the dump after they lose all their money and influence? I hope so.

Also, any old movie fans on the patio...does the nosy evil maid remind anyone of Mrs Danvers? Bua-haa-hhaaaa....

J in Oregon

Gracias J! I don't think it's your timeline that's blurry!

From what I can tell, things happened in this order...
-Pablo and Esme got married and consummated the marriage
-Augie started the campaign of lies to separate Pablo and Esme
-Esme realized she was pregnant and went to the house with the marriage certificate
-Pablo made his visit home AFTER his school semester was over and was told Esme was pregnant, but only 3 weeks pregnant (but a semester is usually 3-4 months long)
-Esme had the babies (were they preemies? Aren't twins usually?)
-Pablo Sr. and Jr. both got sick (Jr. was still on his original formula that Esme got from the first cash donation from SilenciosoCare, so how long do we think that would have lasted?)
-Pablo Sr. got well enough to leave the hospital (How long does it take to recover from pneumonia if it's bad enough to land you in the hospital? Days? Weeks?)
-Pablo Sr. went from NY to the ranch...with Mom, Monica, and Mauricio?...for "a few months" (according to Omar)

They're really not giving us a lot to go on, but I think the babies must be at least 3 months old by now...definitely not so small. And it's not just their size relative to my vague memories of 3-month-old babies, but the fact that I think they're still using the same baby actors and so they aren't growing any compared to when we first saw them.

This was fabulous, Kat!! Thank you!! I loved Den of inEQUITY.

I hope with the return of Virginia we will get to see more of Carrrlos.

And yes, the ball may begin barreling down the barranca very soon. It certainly seems that way!

Sadly, I suspect Pablo is going to believe the Meatball.

La Paloma-I second my approval of the Rita/Dorila scenario. (Also, I changed my profile so that my e-mail is displayed. If you click on me you can hopefully see it. Thank you so much for helping that week!!!!!!!!!!!!)

J in Oregon--I am also hoping that Lorenza and Augie's anvils involve digging around in the dump!

Oh! Here's a list of names that I could recall. I'm sure y'all will remember more. I wish I could remember who started what names.

Esmeralda-La Gata, Miss Kitty, Esme

Pablo-Pablo Pan, Pablum Pan (We need to add dumbass.)

Lorenza-Mrs. Beady (who seriously needs to stop abusing the hallowed Houndstooth. Bear Bryant must be rolling over in his grave.)

Augustin- Mr. Lorenza, Augie, Ughie

Rita-Rita (only because grimy, skeletal, free-loading heifer would get annoying to type week after week.)

El Italiano-Meatball

Centavito-Carrlos

Fernando de La Santa Cruz- El Silencioso, the Silent One.

Dorila-The effin' no-good, dirty, rotten, sneaking, chismosa, metiche, soplona, desgraciada de Dorila (but that is also a bit to type.)

Forgot to credit Dorila's nickname to Kat. She came up with that in her recap.

J in Oregon, yes, evil Dorila is a Mrs. Danvers type of gal. Also like Frau Blucher in Young Frankenstein.

La Paloma:
Darn Facebook! It's got me expecting to find a "Like" button on everything. Anyway I "like" your comment above".
J In Oregon

I do the same thing, J in Oregon!!!

Thanks, Kat.

As for Rita's. Possible anvil....gee, she is scrawny, dirty, and nasty livingina dump and having a perpetual bad hair day. So..what else could we do her besides bodily injury or death ? Right now, Rita is just about as low as anybody can go.

Thanks Kat, great recap and great review of the timeline. It is very helpful.

I'm happy to see Pablo healthy again and looking for Esme. Can't wait to see his joy when he finally meets his Pablito. Even if there is a twist in the story and Esme ends up with that other guy I hope Pablo gets custody of his children.
I'm not intentionally going against the grain of the blog, but my sister and I were raised by a stepdad in a very similar situation. We didn't find out until we were grown that my father wasn't the bad person we were led to believe. Yet as a result we missed a lifetime of fatherly love because my grandparents thought my dad wasn't good enough for their daughter. Ok that's my rant for today. I'm not attempting to influence any one else expressing their opinion But just saying why I have a soft spot for the guy.

Sara thanks for the list of nicknames. I agree with you that some names such as "Dorila-The effin' no-good, dirty, rotten, sneaking, chismosa, metiche, soplona, desgraciada de Dorila" would not only be too long to type over and over but would become distracting. (not a criticism, just my humble opinion).

Thank God, Damian rescued Gata from the Meatball---he didn't get his lustful hands on her. I don't blame Gata, she was desperate and was willing to surrender herself for her babies. Outright evil? No but I can't stand this guy. Remember Meatball David, Sara and I are making anvils, you had better think twice and watch your step from now on.

Thanks La 5ft. Diva---A great read this morning. Your Dorila name list is FAB to the Max.

After last nights dirty sneaky dealings with Dorila, I was going to ask Sara over in assembly if the anvil for Dorila was ready yet but after reading La Paloma's solution of ant hills, snakes and vultures, that seems to be so much better to me than simple anvil justice.

Vero and Omar fired. QUE?

J in Oregon---I have stated on several occasions that I am waiting for the day when we see Lorenza's designer fashions exchanged for the latest in garbage dump designs. That would be well worth the wait.

And speaking of Lorenza---She still had on her pink outfit with matching necklace last night the same think she was wearing the night before last. QUE?

So the marriage was annulled without either party present. That
just doesn't sound right. What kind of laws do they have down in Mexico?

Adios bruja Rita, I've got the garbage dump suite now.

Sara---Will Pablo Pan believe the Meatball? I'm afraid that not only will he believe the Meatball but he will believe every lie until the last couple of episodes when he will go through a marvelous transformation and thus will be able to see the light and that will probably be for the first time in his sheltered life.

Can't wait for tonight. I think that Lorenza will be close to a heart attack when she sees Esme next door.---I can't wait.
the gringo

Susanlynn- I would like to slap Rita 62 times and then throttle her.

Sue NY-my only problem with Pablo having the babies is the toxic grandmother Lorenza.

gringo-I'm counting the hours until tonight's episode!

Thanks for this, 5ft, you certainly did it justice.

I have an idea for Rita. She seems to have a full set of teeth. Lets pull them all out except for one or two in the front. That way her punishment will be to eat very thin soup for the rest of her miserable life. But then she might find a set of used dentures in the garbage dump, so maybe that wouldn't work.

La Gata's new home life actually seemed like the new girl is hired help. Is she hanging out with Gata to go through an OJT course of advanced garbage picking while providing domestic services to pay her way?

It's fun to note that Augie and Lorenza are fully cognizant of the fact that all their worldly goods were fraudulently obtained. Gonna be fun to see them loose it all.

Gringo and Sara, I'm pretty pleased with our anvil production so far.

David

I think that Rita's worst possible punishment is....well...is to just keep on being Rita. That has to be a horrible fate. P.s. I have thought the same thing about my awful ex son-in-law. Sucks to be you...and wouldn't want to be you.

Gracias, Sara! More Carrrlos would be a very good thing. I'm so ready for some happy, positive relationships on this show! Every time the show ends and Uni puts on their "Relive the romance" promo, I grumble that there isn't any romance to relive.

Gracias, Susanlynn! I think the one thing Rita has left is Gata's goodwill. And Gata's so nice, I don't know if Rita will ever lose that, but if she does, then she's really done. I don't think Ines really cares enough about her to keep her fed.

Gracias, Sue! You have a right to your opinion, whether anyone else agrees or not, and you never have to explain, though I'm glad that you trust us enough to share something that's close to your heart. I can't see Pablo being kept out of his children's lives. Not permanently at least. Once all the lies are exposed, there's no reason to keep him away. I think it's a question, at this point, of how long it will take for everything to come to light.

Gracias, gringo! I don't think she really will fire Vero or Omar, but she did threaten. I think if la metiche de Dorila hadn't told Lorenza that Omar was also defying her orders, she might have fired Vero, but to have to replace one's chef and one's chauffeur at the same time...o noes! The horror! I'm looking forward to Lorenza's reaction to finding out who the new neighbors are too!

Gracias, David! Hm...now you've got me wondering how Rita has kept all her teeth this long in the first place. Gata's new BFF Maria does seem like more of an employee. It's not like we've ever seen Gata hang out with any other girls before. Unless Fela and Jarocha count.

To further complicate the name list...

Esmeralda is also "Renata de la Santa Cruz" though no one knows it yet.

El Italiano is also "Domenico" thought he's rarely ever called that, but Rita called him that a few times and it's on his awning.

Fela is also "Blanca" though no one knows it yet.

I think the worst nickname offender is Fernando/Silencioso, because the characters interchange those constantly, so it's not like we, as recappers, have any control over that. It's nearly as bad as figuring out how to concisely label "Diego, pretending to be Rodrigo" and "Rodrigo, pretending to be Diego" in De Que Te Quiero!

Thank you Kat. My phone, an airport and missed too much of the good stuff.

Rita - damn, didn't think she would really leave

Damien - "Here I come to save the day!"

Virginia - IS IN THE HOUSE

Kitty - I'll never get the smell of meatball out of this dress

Mariano - sorry, you know me and secrets

Lorenza - if he runs again, I'll cut off his foot

Pablo - ah, come on and tell me, you can find another job

"I don't think Ines really cares enough about her to keep her fed."

BINGO!! That can be her anvil! She thinks the world of Ines. What would it do to her to find out her nieta doesn't give a hoot about her.

Thanks for the additions to the name list that I'm not really keeping track of anywhere.

And I completely agree about El Sil/Fer. I never know how to refer to him.

tofie--How the heck did I miss your list????

I love the Damian notation. I know he's not much, but I thought he looked HAWT bustin' up in the perv's pizza place and saving Esme. (OK, both of the men were being chauvinist azzes but whatever, Damian has a better heart.)

I like Damian, hot head and all. Don't think he is scared of much once he gets his blood up. Mild mannered, studious, honest, polite, kind hearted but don't piss him off.

Yay, Esme has a live-in nanny and she took care of it herself!

I, too, can't stand Dorila la Gorila! (Sorry, gorillas, no insult intended)

It always makes me laugh when I see "rich folk" enjoying a meal al fresco within public view and with traffic flowing in the background. Really? As private and security-conscious as they are supposed to be, this seems so weird. I have yet to see a single table plopped in the middle of the front lawn in any of the Beverly Hills mansions on Sunset Boulevard that I pass by frequently on my way to the beach! It's too funny to imagine that happening.

Gracias, tofie! I always have trouble picking my favorite on your list, but I think today "Virginia - IS IN THE HOUSE" edges out the rest for the sheer joy of her return! It's about damn time! I am beyond ready for some Virginia-Carrrrlos smoochies!

Sara, I feel a tiny, tiny, tiny bit sorry for what Rita's going to go through once she realizes she bet on the wrong horse, but at the same time...she played a major role in molding Ines into the person she is today.

Gracias, Anon @4:13! Dorila la Gorila...love it! Good point about the weird breakfast on the front lawn. At least the back lawn woud be away from all the car exhaust!

Kat, Thanks for your understanding. I know you've said many times that there is no reason to "justify your opinion" but in this case I couldn't help but think that Viewerville would view my soft spot for Pablo as just being contrary. But from that I've put that out there, I feel I can voice my opinion without feeling the need to justify. I think I remember you saying you'd worked in the therapy field at one time. It shows!!

Thanks, Sue. Feels like a lifetime ago, but it was the kind of training that went beyond "how to do" and was really "how to be." That's not something I'll ever leave behind.

Haven't watched this Telenovela before, but who's the major antagonists ?

Right now Lorenza (Laura Zapata) and Rita.

Agreed. All the other antagonists are taking orders from one of those two, it seems.
