La Malquerida #38, 10/15/2014: Ale Escapes Dan, But Leaves Love and Family Behind
Mexico Episode 43
-Ale, meanwhile, paces her room, agonizing and thinking, and gazing at German’s painting of her. Rosa brings her a gift box, from her “novio” (she assumes German), but it turns out to be from Danilo- a cell phone. He calls and pressures her to come live with him and tell her peeps the same lie about him knowing her from years ago, and threatens to kill German if she doesn’t do it. He also insults German’s artistic abilities and tells Ale that German’s been fired from the Association. Ale defends German’s talent. In a conversation with Acacia, she asks her to support German in whatever he needs. She packs a small bag and puts framed photos of herself and German, and herself and Acacia and Luisa. She takes Carlitos’ drawing out of the frame, and asks for his help. She apologizes to her dad in heaven for muddying his name with the father sexual abuse lie.
-Esteban throws Norberto around the office and manages to
give him a good gut punch before Cris breaks it up and yells at them both to
calm down. She still refuses to back down on supporting German. Esteban tells
her to leave the office, in a way that tells her she better do it. Norbie
gulps, but luckily for him Esteban has calmed down enough to make his point
with words, and not with fists. Norbie will never raise his hand to Esteban’s
mujer again!
-Esteban can’t believe Norbie fired German and Alejandra.
The Association meeting is coming up in a couple of days. Panicked growers are
calling wondering if the meeting’s been cancelled. Esteban is the President,
and HE makes the decisions! He’s also the one who does all the public
relations, while German runs the operations, and Ale does all the
administration (it’s clear that Norbie does nothing). Norbie admits that German
was even going to write his speech for him. He seems to give in to Este’s order
to hire back German and Ale.

-Julianita is locked in her room and cries. Perla comes in
and taunts her and slaps her for being so stupid and rebellious. Julianita says
they lied to her. They told her that she could do this for a little while, make
good money, and then leave (aha, so she came to this willingly). Perla reminds
Julianita how happy she was to leave that run down shack, with her 8 siblings,
and chickens everywhere. Plus, she’s been able to send them money. Perla warns
her about another rebellious one who tried to leave—Turquesa, who got a large
slash across her pretty face for being so disobedient.
-Danilo meets with Johnny, the serious narco who helped him
set up the drug farm, and who rejected Perla. Dan gives him a briefcase full of
top quality marijuana as samples to shop around and get customers. This has to
be on the down-low, because Dan’s old bosses won’t appreciate him moving in on
their territory. Johnny doesn’t like to be told how to do his job—which he
knows better than Dan. Dan gets ready to head to Benavente to do his “charity”
work.
-Rosa seems to be trying to back out of letting Luisa work
with Art, since the patronas are back, but Acacia puts an end to that, and
Luisa runs off happily, and hand-in-hand, with Art. Yay!
-Ulises talks to Cris and Juan Carlos. They both warn him
about hurting Acacia again. (I say he’s never really done anything wrong!) Poor
Uli has to scrape, and bow, and beg to be given another chance. They tell him
he can prove himself with ACTIONS, not words. He would like to start trying by
taking over the bodega reconstruction again. JC is grudgingly fine with that,
BUT only if Este agrees. Uli’s face falls, but he decides to talk to Este man
to man about it.
-Acacia spends the entire episode whining about Esteban not
caring about her anymore and being mad at her. She whines to Esteban, she takes
his hand, she sits there in her too short dress, she looks at him with her big
sad eyes. He remains strong and determined to keep his distance. Cris can take
the lead on teaching Acacia about the hacienda and how to drive. He asks her
about her and Ale contacting the lawyer about someone trafficking minors.
Acacia tells the same lie Ale did about a friend in college in San Jacinto
doing a research paper.
-Acacia takes the whining to Cris and Uli. Cris tells her to
chill. She and Este have bigger problems to worry about right now (like their growing
debt), and Este is preoccupied. Uli tells Acacia it’s not normal for her to be
SO concerned about her step-father’s approval. But he promises to speak to Este
to set things straight. Acacia asks him to wait till Este is not in such a bad
mood. They finally get to smooching.
-Este gets a really high interest rate loan in order to have
cash on hand to pay Manuel’s hospital bill (the hospital won’t release him till
they’re paid). Este had to use their expected crop profits as a guarantee. (If
anything goes wrong with their crop, they’ll be screwed.) On the plus side,
Esteban is reminded of the early days with Cris, when she was his patrona and
they worked side by side to save the hacienda. He smiles happily and kisses
Cris with genuine love and admiration.
-At the hospital, Juliana knits the missing top half of her
sweater, while she and Manuel wait for Norbie to come back with the money. As
soon as he enters the room, she slaps him! He thinks it’s because he didn’t
come home last night. She makes it clear it’s because he kicked German out.
Manuel looks on in horror as their argument escalates. Norberto dares and
taunts Juliana to say out loud why he can’t take German’s painting. She nearly
spills the beans in front of Manuel, but then they take their argument outside
the room. They talk about a subject they agree on—money (Cris and Este’s) and
getting their hands on Benavente. But they soon head back to the ugly topic of
their marriage. Juliana threatens to move into a separate bedroom if he insists
on sleeping with other women and exposing her to disease. Then she gets flirty
with him and promises nookie, if he lets German come back home. Norbie’s not
falling for that again. Plus, he knows money is her weak point—just like the
reason she married him (pregnant by another man), when he paid all her father’s
debts.
-Este and Cris interrupt this lovely discussion and hand
them the check. Norbie goes off to pay, and Este goes off to make sure he gets
a receipt!
-Before they leave for the hospital, Ale stops Cris and
Este. She hands Este a flashdrive with the report on the research she did on genetically
modified cotton. Este is impressed. It’s just what he needed. Ale thanks Cris
and Este for all they have done for her, and for being like the parents she
never had. She joins hands with them, and hugs them repeatedly.
-As Cris and Esteban are leaving, German arrives. Cris
promises to speak to him when they get back from the hospital. Once alone, German
and Ale are continuously physically drawn to each other like magnets, repeatedly
give into the urge to hug, and nearly kiss.
A: I’m not going to be good company for you.
G: How could you not be, when you’re the woman I love? (He
pulls her into a tight hug.)
-She pushes him away and says they need to keep their distance.
He wonders if it’s because of Dan. He
takes her hands and says they can start a new life together, far from the
ranch.
G: You promised me that you would never leave me, and this
is your opportunity to prove it. I beg you. Forget everything. Come with me
Ale.
A: If I come back to you, it will be only because I’m sure
that there will be nothing that harms you…uhm, us. Nothing that harms US. But
for now, forget about me.
-He pulls her into another hug and refuses. He says they can
be together and start from zero. He tells her about being fired AND kicked out
of the house, and how Norb tore up his paintings. Ale can’t believe something so unjust
has happened to him, and she caresses his face to comfort him. They nearly
kiss, and she jumps back and says she’s a bad influence like Norb says. He asks
why she won’t let herself be happy with him. She decides to get rough with him,
and asks what makes him think he can make her happy? He points to the way she
looks at him, her caresses, everything. She gives him a verbal slap down this
time, and yells that he has nothing to offer her and she needs a man who gives
her security! She runs off.
-German goes to Uli and asks for help-- he feels like a train ran over him. Meanwhile, Ale takes German's sacred heart painting off its mount and packs it in her bag, and throws the
turquois ring in her purse (after contemplating chucking it). She leaves a
letter for Acacia, and sadly walks out and away from Hacienda Benavente.

Though hope is a rare emotion here, I am somewhat sustained by Esteban's purposeful polite but distant handling of Acacia. It was obvious he is drawing strength from Cris which you confirmed with "He smiles happily and kisses Cris with genuine love and admiration". Cris is and embodies everything that is good and loving. He knows what he has, let us hope he never forgets it.
While pleased German turned to Uli for comfort, I am perplexed as to why he did not go to Esteban. Esteban has always been there for him - was he embarrassed to admit how far he has fallen (or been pushed) and lost family, livlihood and the love of his life?
I would like to think that Perla beyotch slapped Julianita to scare her so that Danilo would not hurt her, but that would be giving her too much credit. I suspect the years of abuse Perla has suffered have manifested into "be lucky you are alive" which is her very sad mantra.
And Ale. Where will she go? What will she do? Will German find her before Danilo does? We must hope.

for not helping, believe me I would if I was half as gifted as you ladies. Ii didn't have time to comment yesterday. I'm getting ahead of myself because I just watched Wednesday night epi. Every single member of Ugggacia family will be be watching Uli's every move, as he tries desparately to prove himself. You know he has messed up and hurt Ms. Pout so many times. Just watch Nuria's antics will cause Uli major grief. The village idiot (Norb) and the town (sociopath), and Esteban (jealous enamorado) could hold Uli accountable. I had wrongly posted that Este had hired Nuria to sabotage the project, but it looks like that is happening without Este's help after all. Vivi, you said what I was thinking that everyone is breaking German's heart and I so feel for him. He is such a sensitive sweet beautiful soul. How dare they!! Not to happy w Ale either. It seemed she was trying to escape unnoticed but I wasn't sure until I saw Vivi's title what she was doing.

Diana, I thought she was going with Danilo, but perhaps not. I just hope evil danilo doesnt still cause any harm to big sexy when Ale doesnt show up. IF she foes go back to Dan, Perla gonna be heart broken. Seems like lil julianita might be ready about now to join forces w Ale to put Danilo behind bars! I forgot to say that I am happy that Manual loves his brother. On Tuesday night previews for Thurs they showed really quick Este holding Acacia's chin to kiss her, but they didnt show any such thing last night. Did anyone else see that?

Wonderful recap, Vivi! You rock.
I’m curious to see if anything ever happens between Acacia and Este, or if his feelings will become really apparent and that alone will cause trouble. Having that old boyfriend show up, the one that will mount Chris’s show, makes me think something will happen, and that the art guy is the fallback for Chris when everything goes to hell.
I hope Ale doesn’t go back to Dan, but instead gets on a bus and disappears.

For the life of me, I also can't understand why this Acacia thing is such a struggle for Esteban either. Initially, I saw it. She's hot and young. The novelty of it was jarring. But the more time passes, it's so obvious that Cris is the more desirable of the two, if you are a grown man. They have great chemistry and work well both in and out of the bedroom. Cris is an ideal mate in every way. Had Acacia turned out to be some awesomely mature, witty, grounded, wise woman beyond her years, then I could see why this is still so much of a struggle. She IS a good person, with a kind heart. But she's also insecure, easily manipulated, prone to jealousy and to jumping to conclusions, and spoiled. Why in heaven's name would that be so desirable to a grown man?

Esteban is almost broke, Norberto is almost broke, German is thrown out and looses Alejandra, DanEvil is back in business big time, Alejandra a kept woman? and Ulises is about to be blindsided. Can any more trouble be stirred up? The only good thing going right now is Arturo and cutie pie Luisa.

Diana- I have been meaning to mention this and you reminded me with your comment. Despite the fact that Ale's formal education stopped at the age of 13 or younger, she has been able to very quickly learn and take the lead on administering the Association, and I'm sure she did a fab job on the research paper too. All those years of her young life wasted servicing men sexually. Just imagine what she could have been doing with her quick mind. She and German made a great team, and hopefully will again.
Gringo- Yeah, Luisa and Arturo are the only two seeing any ray of light right now. Acacia could also be blissfully happy (great mom, great boyfriend, great life), if she weren't so hung up on Esteban, and if she weren't so prone to seeing problems where there aren't any.

What Esteban sees in Acacia? I think Gringo is on to something - she is sexy and young and did I mention sexy?
A smart Esteban would never look at her as more than a nice piece of eye candy (if his fantasies ever went there ) but Estefan is not smart, he's horny as Hell. He was astonished by her beabeauty at the beginning and now he can't shake it off.
I'm not sure if anything will ever happen between them outside his imagination but Acacia is clearly smitten, too, even if she's too inexperienced to recognize true lust when she sees it. But when she does and Esteban realizes it. ... who knows what will happen.
With so many episodes in I still have no clue what will happen next. I love it!
Side note : what's up with the very short dresses? Both Acacia and Ale rock them, but they distract me from watching the scenes since I keep staring at their legs.
Makes me understand Esteban better, though. .. his wife only wears jeans. :)

A smart Esteban would never look at her as more than a nice piece of eye candy (if his fantasies ever went there ) but Estefan is not smart, he's horny as Hell. He was astonished by her beabeauty at the beginning and now he can't shake it off.
I'm not sure if anything will ever happen between them outside his imagination but Acacia is clearly smitten, too, even if she's too inexperienced to recognize true lust when she sees it. But when she does and Esteban realizes it. ... who knows what will happen.
With so many episodes in I still have no clue what will happen next. I love it!
Side note : what's up with the very short dresses? Both Acacia and Ale rock them, but they distract me from watching the scenes since I keep staring at their legs.
Makes me understand Esteban better, though. .. his wife only wears jeans. :)
Adriana- If you (and I) can't help but look at Acacia's and Ale's lovely legs, just imagine the male viewers. And hence the reason. :) I don't mind though. As long as they show me shirtless German-- which they haven't done in a few episodes! I need the writers/director to correct this. :)

Adriana you made me think of something. I've always wondered how old Esteban is supposed to be? Is he younger, the same age, or older than Cristina? I kinda thought he was younger so maybe if he is then his attraction to Cris to diminishing because of that. Whereas Acacia is a young, beautiful woman.
I'm curious to see what Ale is going to do.
