La Gata #55 11/14/14 La Confusión

Just a quick run down from memory. It might be a little out of order (or a lot...) I really just stuck to the main events. I'm sure I missed some things.

The motín (rebellion) continues. Pablo tries to talk-down the Cyclops/Unibrow.

Augie and El Sil discuss assets. El Sil reminds him that all the assets are his, BUT there is some mine near the ranch that Augie insists is his. He bought it after El Sil went to jail. Augie tries a little groveling and El Sil reminds Augie that he had no pity when El Sil was begging all those years ago.

Esme finds out about the prison motín. Reinforcements have been called in. Esme jumps up on the van (in HEELS, people!) and no one seems to notice. She and Pablo declare their love in the midst of the riot. This scene seemed useless to me, but it was exciting.

The riot is finally subdued and everything seems to go back to normal. Seriously???? No one gets punished????

Carlos is released. The judge has accepted Virginia's testimony. Smoochies.

Augie and Lorenza have all their stuff (minus two chairs) carted away. She still refuses to give up the jewelry.

Esme goes to the Meatball and begs him to not testify against Pablo. Meatball swears Pablo shot him. I guess it is entirely possible with all the emotions involved that Meatball could very well believe that Pablo shot him (excellent idea, David.) The fun begins when Meatball's Mujer. It didn't click when she said it, but you may be on to something J...maybe she's not a MRS Meatball at all. My other question would be this: if she was crushing on FDLSC, she must have been part of a high social status...so how the hell did she end up with Meatball????????? FDLSC seemed to lump her with all the people that abandoned him.

Cyclops starts a fight with Pablo and the guards put PABLO in solitary. Qué, Qué WHAT??? Cyclops is the one that started the riot, but PABLO gets solitary confinement??????

FDLSC talks to the prison warden and is granted a talk with Pablo. He asks Pablo to leave and go far away when he's released. Pablo makes an impassioned speech saying he will never leave Esme and he will spend the rest of his life in jail if he needs to. FDLSC informs Pablo he was just testing him. Pablo passed.

Mariano comes to see Pablo and convince him to plead guilty, but at the same time Damian is procuring Pablo's release on bail. Pablo refuses to plead guilty.

In yet another non-cliffhanging Friday ending, FDLSC explains to Carrlos that he's going to start a program to help support street youths. They can learn to be productive members of society in the morning and work in the afternoon. Mariano has also been offered a job with Osorio's law firm. I really think Ms. Latoodle-oo needs to learn how to create an ending that leaves you wanting more.

Avances
Looks like Mariano is no longer straddling the fence between good and evil.

Hi, Sara. Thank you for setting us up a discussion page. Please take care of yourself! Yes, that was the lamest prison uprising I have ever seen in my life! I think we could continue Diva's title "La Comedia" from Wednesday. Pablo was the savior with his lofty speech and brave facing down of the cyclops, whatever his name is. To further the ridiculousness of it all, cyclops and the other prisoners who beat and held guns on the heads of guards successfully set Pablo up for a beat down. Pablo is blamed and gets solitary confinement!

Say WHHAAAAT? Many of the prisoners took part in the uprising so they all should have been on lockdown but if nobody else, the Cyclops should have been! He was the ring leader but Pablo gets solitary for supposedly wielding a pen-knife against the prison uprising leader???!!! Damn!

My other favorite moment was the meatball being married. I don't know why I never considered that a possibility. Anybody else kinda felt she channeled the Tasmanian Devil's wife (Bugs Bunny cartoon era)? Man, that $hit was funny!

Anyway, it was a great episode that should spark some lively discussion. Off to housework!

Sara, hope you feel better! I sucks to have to put up a recap when you aren't feeling well.

Like Lila, gringo, and others, I am befuddled with this prison uprising. I agree that the Cyclops, as the ring leader, should have been in lockdown just as a matter of course.

I am wondering if Meatball actually believes that Pablo shot him. In a violent incident, it is easy to get things wrong. I am not defending Meatball, I can't stand the guy, but just wonder if he is genuinely confused.

I also loved finding out that he is married. WOW! He always wants to kiss Esme, but now the only kiss he'll get is kissing that relationship goodbye.

I loved that the chairs that were left in the MN house were straight back kitchen chairs. No recliners allowed!

Take care of yourself, Sara.

David

Sara--oh noooo! Not be sick! Please feel better soon.

My favorite part of the prison riot was all the folks beating the guards with what looked like cafeteria trays. And Pablo and Carlos just standing there with their bowls in hand, taking it all in, as if bemused.

Give me a break please (oops, but not a prison break)--Esme, the mother of two infants, actually wades into the fray to try and get a glimpse of her honey in the middle of a prison riot? Really? "I must see the father of my babies!" In a couple minutes they might have been orphans.

I was whooping with delight when Meatball's mujer strolled into the hospital room. But she didn't say "esposa", she and Meatballs both referred to her as his "mujer". Could that indicate something other than legal wife?

J in Oregon

Sorry you are coming down with something. Hate it.

This whole prison thing like a very bad B movie, the location, the dialog, the costuming, direction (or lack thereof) acting, blah, blah, blah. Look, the reason anybody watched this thing was for Dan & Maite and it apparent Nathalie Lartilleux forks out big dollars for the headliners and it blows up the budget.

I did love the disclosure there a Mrs. Meatball and she formerly crushed on Fernando.

Hey everyone! I just put up a real quick recap of main happenings.

Husband just went to get me some soup and then I'm taking a nap.

I actually really liked this episode and I think it was the fact that it was like a B movie with all the melodrama.

Sara---Winter is arriving, well soon will be and people are starting to come down with the seasonal ailments. I hope that you feel a little better as the day wears on.

Yes, La Comedia continued last night. You're right Lila Pablo saved the prison and the guards so what does he get, Put him in the hole. How dare he fight with another prisoner even if he is forced to.

The funniest part of the whole thing for me was Gata riding into the middle of riot chaos sporting high healed fashion boots. You guys know that I love Maite, I just adore her but I couldn't stop laughing when I saw that last night. I asked myself is she going to kick ass with her up town Neiman Marcus boots? OMG that was funny. Please writers don't humiliate Matie with stupidity like that anymore. Maite is a goddess, don't make us laugh at her.

Bombshell of the night. So the Meatball is married. Who knew?

In one scene I saw three chairs that were left. I was wondering if their nice King sized cushy soft bed was left for them or do they have to sleep on the floor?

It looks like The Lo still has enough matching necklaces to go around.

I like the actor's rough scratchy voice that is playing Augie. It's perfect for his part. Does anybody know if that is his real voice or was it something that was just dreamed up for this bad guy role?

Carlos is free--yeah!!!
the gringo

Sara, thanks for giving us a great recap even when you're under the weather.

Esme standing by her man, no matter what! And Pablo, the hero of the riot, using the force of his personality to overcome Cyclops!

Sweet to see Virginia and Carlos reunited! And to see Pablo pass the test, proving his devotion to Esme.

The best part was Meatball busted by his mujer. He had a great hangdog look on his face. Don Fernando said something about she wouldn't pay attention to him being married and she said something about love doesn't take marriages into account. She could have been a staff member in his past life. We had no previous clue that Meatball was attached.

Hey, thanks Sara. Get some rest, girl. It was a great episode!

David, yes, good point about the meatball being confused. I guess none of us are inclined to cut the guy any slack. And J, in terms of his wife, I think Spanish speakers say "mujer" to mean wife?

gringo and all, not a criticism, just an opinion cause I'm enjoying this crazy show: with the prison riot, I think La Gata jumping on the back of the van is truly a "jumping the shark" moment for this show. Here we have a high-tension life or death situation like a prison uprising and no one notices this hot babe in a little black dress, raven locks flying, in stiletto kicks on the back of the white van carrying in the reinforcements. Lord. Have. Mercy! I need to watch that again! Koo Koo!

We may need to remember these silly moments later as Mariano slides to the dark side!

Gracias, Sara! I'm glad you enjoyed the episode despite feeling sick. Hopefully the soup and a nap will put you right again. All this incomprehensibility can't help!

Between your recap and the comments, so many people have already mentioned the QTH moments, and I hope you'll indulge me 'cause I still feel the need to vent...

Gata's behavior at the "riot"..."I must see my man! Pablo needs help!" Yeah, Pablo needs the two guys with big guns that you just distracted by running in there. On a more meta note...do the insurance people ever watch things like our intrepid young actress clinging to the back of the van in stilettos and raise the production company's premiums?

Post-riot, the riot leader is not only not in solitary or moved to another location and when HE accuses another prisoner of pulling a knife on him...the prisoner who, despite his appalling lack of brain cells and through the magic of telenovelavision, helped put down the riot...they believe Unibrow. And did I understand Unibrow's reason for the riot correctly...he wanted justice? The justice he thought his murder victims had gotten? Dude, you just admitted to being a murderer and now you're in jail...STFU!

There's a woman out there who WANTS to be with Meatball?! And admits it?! In public?! And she used to be high society enough to have known Fernando and wanted his bod? Say what?! I think she said she "lives" with Meatball, and he told her to go back to "the ranch," but nobody said "married." Does common-law marriage exist in Mexico?

If they seized everything...what did Vero cook in/with? Did they empty out Vero, Omar, and Dorila's rooms as well? And why are the three of them still there? We know the money is gone...the money that backs the paychecks! Get the hell outta there!

And, lastly, not a QTH but an "about damn time"...I'm glad Virginia is now emancipated!

Thanks Sara for playing while sick.

"if she was crushing on FDLSC, she must have been part of a high social status...so how the hell did she end up with Meatball?????????"

I'm just really disappointed this thing is so lame.

Mariano - you are way smarter than this

Mrs. Meatball - he was a rebound one night stand and once people knew I slept with him no one would date me

Meatball - but Gata there's enough of me to share

Virginia - "Love lift us up where we belong"

Carlos - no one has helped me before so feels kinda weird

Esmeralda - I was afraid he would forget I loved him

Lorenza - don't even have a dog to kick

Pablo - hmmm, Fernando, how bout throw in a $100 dollar gift card to Fantastic Sams and we got ourselves a deal

Augie - and all those coin op car washes, I guess you got those too

I see Virginia & Carlos are reunited. How long before her mother plots to destroy them ?

Thanks everyone. I feel like I've slept all day.

Lila-I love your comments. Esme jumping on that truck unnoticed really did feel like a "jumping the shark" moment.

gringo-You've expressed perfectly what makes me so mad about Ms. Latoodle-oo. Don't make our favorite actors and actresses into doofuses. Tell a good story and let them do their job! (I'll comment on this more in a minute.)

La Paloma-The revelation that Meatball was already taken hit me like a ton of bricks! Who knew??

The avances make it look like Lupe was the one that shot Meatball...or at least he knows who did it. And is it possible that PABLO was actually the intended target?

Now, about Ms. Latoodle-oo. I get the impression she is not telling a story with a beginning, middle and end rather she dreams up scenes and the writers have to come up with a way to put the actors in said scene.

I picture her having her weekly staff meeting and saying: "I think it would look great if Esme had to jump on a truck for some reason."

Lol...There must be some epic drinking that goes on after those staff meetings to come up with some of this stuff!

I'm sure! The frustration for me is that between the shark jumping we get some real intriguing plot points.

*Dorila clearly knows and is afraid of Rita.

*Whose chin took the baby from Fela?

*What exactly went down 20ish years ago?

*Where are Ines and Garabato headed?

*What's the mystery surrounding the Meatball?

And there are so many other things, too!

I think Latoodle-oo (played by Lorenza) believes her poop don't stink nor anyone with a title, connections and money. Her condescending character rants against the poor a trademark and the only way out of a life not worth living is to have a rich benefactor scoop you up and make them in their own image. It is also clear she purposefully dumbs down the quality and the dialog believing her audience too stupid (the poor masses) and unsophisticated enough to understand complex characters, situations, sets and dialog. A Saturday morning cartoon has more meat on its bone and less likely to insult my intelligence.

*Where is all of Rita's money going?

*Why would Rita's son come after Gata if he got out of jail?

*What ended up happening to the guy Ines and Garabato left in the hotel room?

*Will the babies ever age?

Diva, your questions are good ones. I am also puzzled by "cap baby". Why the cap? He seems so listless, they usually keep him facing away from the camera. The little girl is sure cute and alert.

And why do Omar and the others hang around a mansion where there's nowhere to sit and eat? Are they getting paid?

Another thing I've been wondering: is the pizzeria in the dump? Esme just runs over there like it's across the street, but the aerial views of the dump show no actual buildings.

J in Oregon

And J, let's not forget the big question...Where is Principe?!!!!

Diva, I have never forgotten my Principe, but figure people get tired of me asking where he is!
I do wonder and worry about the animals and little kids used in filming these shows, have to remind myself that it's out of my hands. But still.

There was a show, Gata Salvaje, starring Mario Cimarro that had a fiesty female lead (referred to in the title, "wild cat"). However instead of having her drag a cat around week after week, they just showed the cat in the opening credits. It was effective and much kinder for the cat.

J in Oregon

Hopefully, Principe convinced the kittens to leave Casa Martinez Negrete before they seized all the food.

I'm with you, J. I would have a guaranteed sighting of a happy Príncipe every day in the opening credits than him being dragged around and miserable.

I'm looking forward to what this week brings. We need some revelations soon. It's getting a little tedious having little mysteries being introduced and we still don't even know the full story about El Sil and Augie.

They're making it look like we'll find out who shot Meatball on Monday, which only makes me think they're lying and we won't find out a damn thing about that.

Lmao. I sort of fear the same thing!

I'm glad that you are better Sara
It must be the soup.

Why would Lupe shoot Pablo? Lupe was always the man of reason.

How do we know that Mariano is moving to the dark side. Ok so he tells his brother to plead guilty
which would cause Pablo to be locked up for a very long time thus giving him a chance to win over Esmeralda. That's just an I'm in it for me thing.

Did you guys notice that it just wasn't just solitary that Pablo was put in, it was more like a square hole with no room to lie down.

Where's Principle? Televisa spent
so much money on Esme's Neiman Marcus boots and higher insurance rates for her riding on the back bumper of a van moving into the riot zone that the budget for Principe had to be cut back. He'll
be out for a while.
the gringo

Lol, gringo...was it budget cuts, or did Principe make the mistake of questioning Ms. Latoodle's decisions?

I know they call solitary "the hole"...well, I mean, from all my vast TV knowledge anyway...but that was a very literal interpretation!

That cat mural of Pablo's is getting more wacky by the episode. Anyone else notice the cats are becoming more and more manic looking, with human noses? Maybe reflecting Pablo's increasing frustratin and anger. Kinda like the Picture of Dorian Gray in reverse.

Oops, that was me commenting on the cat mural.
J in Oregon

Lol...it started out ok, like just a bunch of big cat faces...and then it's like he dropped some acid or something!

Anon---I didn't notice any human noses on the mural animals. Will look more closely next time.
the gringo

Thanks, Sara. Super recap. Hope you're feeling better.

Enjoyed all the comments. Everything so well said and funny too. I have nothing to add except it was nice to see someone (Mrs. Meatball) finally make Meatball shut up.

"How do we know that Mariano is moving to the dark side. Ok so he tells his brother to plead guilty
which would cause Pablo to be locked up for a very long time thus giving him a chance to win over Esmeralda. "

Uh, maybe you jokin' brother gringo? Trying to frame your innocent brother to go to prison for possibly his life so you can have his woman/former wife with whom he has two babies and with whom you know he is madly in love as she is with him seems pretty dark to me. He could only get darker if he were to have Pablo killed or disappear the babies. His behavior is especially disturbing knowing that their father did the same thing to the father of Esme thus virtually destroying their lives. Dark or psychotic, his attempt to do this for me means Mariano's picture could pretty much be used in the telenovela dictionary next to the definition of dark and dastardly. JMHO brother gringo.

Lila

gringo said:

"Why would Lupe shoot Pablo? Lupe was always the man of reason."

They really did make it seem as if Lupe at least knew who the shooter was. I can't wait for tonight!!

J- I love your analysis of the mural!

Lila -- it went right over my head that Mariano is proposing in theory doing what his father did to El Silencioso: have him locked away. But will Mariano go through with it? Maybe he has a conscience after all.

So check out the mural everyone...maybe one of the cats will end up with Augie's chin or Meatballs round cheeks...

J in Oregon

Lila---When I said dark side, I was thinking of murder, putting poison in a drink, fixing the brakes on a car so that they don't work etc. Think about it Lila, he has done none of these things. All that he has done is tell his brother that the evidence
is stacked up against him and if he pleads guilty and asks for the court's mercy, he might get a lighter sentence. I'm not sure if that actually puts one into camp evil. Remember that the next to worthless novela police have found absolutely no evidence that would or could be used in Pablo's
I didn't do it defense. And remember too that the victim, Meatball said that Pablo shot me and as far as we know, there are no witnesses or if there were, either they haven't been found or they aren't talking. Lupe? How many attorney's in similar cases have advised their clients to throw themselves onto the mercy of the court in hopes of getting a lighter sentence. Does that make the attorneys evil? Yes, in this case it is in Mariano's favor if Pablo pleads guilty but I say again that Pablo has next to no defense and so I am nor ready to call Mariano evil or put him into camp dark, at least not yet. Let's see how this plays out.
Where are the writers going with who looked like Lupe? Did anyone see him?
the gringo

re: Mariano and the Dark Side. I think he's heading there, but not there yet. He's making a pretty weenie-ish effort. I mean, telling Pablo to plead guilty to get a reduced sentence isn't "doing" something, so much as presenting Pablo with a potentially bad decision, hoping Pablo accepts it, and hoping it works. If he really wants to be evil, he's going to have to step up his game.

I think the suggestion to plead guilty has less to do with Mariano being objective about Pablo's chances than it does about "How can I put forth the least effort possible, while still looking like I'm on his side." It's not that he doesn't think he can defend Pablo on a plea of "not guilty" it's that he doesn't want to try. That's how I'm reading it anyway. Not the nicest thing to do to your brother, but still a little weak compared to Augie's past actions of buying witnesses and faking evidence.

They're hinting that tonight he's going to encourage Meatball to continue screwing Pablo over, but the previews have been wrong before. We'll have to see if he actually has the stones to make the jump from weenie fence-sitter to truly evil.

Mariano has been an intriguing character so far, and I know it's not fair to him, but if he's going to turn evil I think I'm going to hold him to a higher standard. He'd better actually bring it!

Mariano is my favorite character and the actor has done a wonderful job with the sparse face time he's been given. This latest is a feeble attempt to advise Pablo to do something not in his best interest and Mariano had to know it a long shot at best. I get he wants a shot with Esmeralda but even with round Pablo in a square hole in prison no guarantee she would have a thing to do with him. Mariano is clever enough to woo Esmeralda without the tricks, it won't be long before Pablo does something else to piss her off without any help.

I agree Kat, if he is gonna go bad, even after Fernando has helped him get a job, he outta get down to it. I still have an outside hope he and Ines hook up.

Garabato is no match for him! I'm torn...would I rather they hook up and be evil or hook up and be good?

Ah ha ha! Great back and forth on Mario! "We'll have to see if he actually has the stones to make the jump from weenie fence-sitter to truly evil." Well, okay, fair enough. I think right now Mario hasn't inhaled yet but he does want to have sexual relations with that woman and the fact that it's his brother's woman and he's willing to see him spend his life in the hole at least earns him one "e" in evil. Knowing he's Augies's son I see him with the potential to earn at least another "e" and become "eevil." It's a continuum and I maintain he's on a bad trajectory. But we'll see!

Lol, Lila! I'm dying laughing at "hasn't inhaled yet but he does want to have sexual relations with that woman"!

Why of course he cannot be good and real competition for Pablo so he will skid off the tracks for "luv" and no it not cool he go for his bros girl but I at least will give him a pass.

I think Ines is a gonner, she easily could have used the jail time to scare her straight however she gets off on the rush. Garabato is the only thing holding her back and if she hooks up with Mariano and goads him on, heaven help everybody. Move over Augie & Lorenza.

"she gets off on the rush" Word! I like that they've made that a consistent part of her character. She freaks out a little, and then the adrenaline goes to her head and it's like she's high.

Now, why can't they write every character that consistently?

And exactly why I like her and well played by Alejandra Robles Gil. You can see multiple emotions in her face as she is processing what has or is about to happen and the glee for a cherry on top. Mariano (Jorge Poza) does it too, though more calculating, and why I'm on edge.

Yah, y'all, now there's somebody else on a bad trajectory, that Ines, y'all are right she does get off on power and hurtin' folks. She never did like Esme but this whole sickin' Garabato on Esme is baaad news! (Hey, I never wrote "to sic(k) as in dog before, which one is right?)

siccing

I think.

Well I am home "sicK" today, so getting to enjoy all your comments hot off the presses!

J in Oregon
Still hearting Mariano

Thanks, Diva. Weird word!

So, J...what you're saying is you got sicced by a virus and now you're sick?

Exactly, Diva! So far just sneezing my head off and sniffling, but makes it hard to concentrate at work.
