La Malquerida #57, 11/11/14

Mexico Episode 63

All- I did a ffwd through the Uni version and realized that they showed a whole episode. No cutting or combining. Who knows what they have planned for the next few weeks.

Cris’ angry/perplexed reaction to finding Acacia and Estebone all alone cuddled up on the hillside is sidelined when Acacia runs to her arms crying about Palomino’s death. Acacia then says she doesn’t want to talk about it and runs off. The first of a series of fights between Cris and Este begins. The short version: Cris calls Este out for not telling her something so important that happened to her daughter. He throws in her face that she was off doing lord knows what with Hector. Cris slaps him! How dare he insult her that way!

Later, the family and friends at Benavente have a little memorial in the living room for Palomino (his ashes in a box Acacia holds). Acacia basically speaks out loud to her father about losing this piece of him, but then publicly thanks Esteban for being there for her like a second father. She takes his hand and then gives him one of those full body hugs. Cris looks on, and she does not look pleased. She takes Acacia to her bedroom for a chat.

Cris asks Acacia why lately she goes to Este first with all her problems and not her, her mother? She says she wants to spend more time with Acacia, and that Acacia should come to her first with her issues. Acacia points out that Cris wanted her to get close to Este. She used to hate him because she thought he wanted to take all that was her father’s, and now she loves/cares for (querer) him. She thought that’s what Cris wanted. Cris says yeah, but I’M YOUR MOTHER! Acacia tells her not to be jealous (note that she means Cris shouldn’t be jealous of Este, while we in the audience know it should be Cris being jealous of Acacia). She tells Cris things she would never tell Este, like that she kissed Manuel. “Que, que?!!” Cris is shocked and ticked off. She scolds Acacia for kissing Manuel when she knows she doesn’t have feelings for him and is just leading him on—doesn’t matter if she was tipsy. Now Cris thinks Este might have been right to forbid Acacia and Manuel from seeing each other. Acacia is ticked off that either one of them would forbid her seeing Manuel.

Estebad goes to the cantina to drown his woes and ends up drinking with Danilo who waxes poetic about his passion for young nubile Ale, whom he has wanted since he first set eyes on her (Este should realize this was when she was 13!)—a passion which Edelmira could never quench. Has Este ever felt that way? Estebone gets agitated and leaves. Danilo looks thoughtful. Estalker sneaks into Acacia’s darkened bedroom, watches her sleep, and nearly touches her, before slinking out the door.

The next morning, in their bedroom, Cris and Este have it out again. Cris basically reminds him again that SHE is in charge of her daughter. She is ticked off that he has offended her by going against her wishes with regard to her daughter, AND that he’s insulted her by implying she would do anything inappropriate with Hector. His jealousy for both Acacia and her is out of proportion. She mentions that Acacia and Manuel kissed, and he flips out, knocking stuff off the bedside table. She looks at him like WTF, and tells him to distance himself from Acacia. He panics and changes tactics, and tries (fake) tears. He caresses the bracelet Acacia gave him and speaks about how hard he has worked to win Acacia’s affection, just as Cris asked him (guilt trip). Cris softens a tiny bit, and clarifies that she doesn’t mean he can’t have any relationship with Acacia, but SHE’s the one taking the lead and making the decisions about her daughter. He snottily agrees, says he’s going to work, and no he doesn’t need her help, and leaves with a little sarcastic bow, like she’s his boss.

Rubio sees all and whispers in Este’s ear. He says that Acacia has the same feelings for Este. Este swears that he loves Cris. Rubio thinks that love is past tense—now it’s Acacia he desires. The problem is that Cris is the one who holds the purse strings, and if he ever wants to have a future with Acacia, he’s going to have to find a way of providing for her financially…Rubio slyly reminds Este that he always has his back.

Acacia wakes from a dream where she’s watching Este shirtless in the fields. She’s hot and bothered and breathing heavy and says to herself that she can’t be feeling this way for her mother’s husband. We finally have acknowledgement of her lusty feelings, folks! Ale comes in (badly in need of pants, but I don’t think male viewers will argue), and Acacia asks Ale how you know that what you feel for someone is real. Ale says when you think about him all the time, and want to tell him everything that you’ve experienced, good and bad. Acacia looks worried. She says she’s having confusing feelings about a “friend.” Ale thinks she means Manuel, and that she’s worried about hurting Luisa and Manuel. She tells Acacia to give it time. Acacia says that spending more time with Manuel might just be what she needs to clarify her confused feelings (for Este). Cris then comes in. Cris will not forbid Acacia from seeing Manuel, but wants Acacia think about things. Acacia thinks spending time with Manuel will help her forget…other things. Cris thinks that Acacia needs to learn to make her own happiness and not rely on someone else. They make up and agree they need to spend more time together.

In other news:
-Medicine Woman (MW) and her granddaughter Medicine Girl (MG) are taking care of Uli. Uli desperately wants to get word to Acacia, but MW says he needs to first heal. Plus, the bad men are surely after him and her granddaughter, and NO WAY is she allowing her granddaughter to put herself in danger trying to deliver a note to his mujer. He needs to rest and heal first.

-Luisa is getting tired of everything being all about Acacia, Acacia, Acacia. She tells Ale about how Manuel is jerking her around, and that he asked her to testify against Uli. Just then Arturo comes in and tells her about the Nuria Miami clue, and that Carmen and Andres are headed there immediately. Luisa gives him a hug. Rosa catches them, runs Art off, tells Ale to get out too, manhandles Luisa, and is basically a witch with a “b” to her. The next day Manuel comes to see Acacia, runs into Luisa, pressures her again to testify against Uli, Rosa catches them, and manhandles Luisa. She tells Luisa that she regrets allowing her to get an education, hang out with rich people, and become such close friends with Acacia. If her parents could see her behavior (flirting with rich boys and being uppity) they would die all over again. Damn! I’m starting to see why Luisa is so screwed up!

-Andres tells Norberto and Juliana that he’s going to tell German that he’s his dad, especially after witnessing how horribly Norberto treats him. Norberto tells him that if he does that, he’ll KILL Andres! HE (Norberto) is German’s father, and HE’LL tell German the truth! Andres speaks about how Juliana denied him his child by never telling him she was pregnant before he went to the States and she married Norberto for money. (Norb seems a bit surprised that Andres is only now learning about German.) Juliana gets between them and says that German has been through a lot lately. She begs Andres for a bit more time, and to allow her to do it. Andres makes clear that he NEVER wants Juliana to come looking for him again, and leaves. Norb is clearly ticked that she’s been sniffing around Andres. He stays out all night, first drinking with Dan (he asks Dan if he should really keep trusting his henchies who allowed Uli to escape), and then, who knows. The next morning, Juliana makes a big show of feeling abandoned to the boys. German says he’ll support her in the divorce, and goes off to work with the new capataz. Manuel says maybe his father has a valid reason for treating her badly, then reveals he knows that German isn’t his brother. (WTF! He’s still your brother, idiot. You have the same mom!) Juliana begs for his silence. He tries to blackmail her—his silence, IF she helps convince Este to let him see Acacia. He’s becoming more like his parents each day.

-German hangs out with Lizy at the shop. He says his last girlfriend left him because he doesn’t have money. (Oh, German!) They talk about his art and seem to really connect. At the office, he rubs in Ale’s face that he’s wrapping up work early to take Lizy to dinner. Just then Danilo pops up to give Ale an uncomfortable kiss and to take her to lunch, and he brags about the big wedding prep. Once German exits sadly, Ale looks at Dan with contempt and fire in her eyes. She does not want a big sham of a wedding with him. “Well then, let’s go down to the justice of the peace and get hitched right now.” Ale gulps.

-Manuel and Acacia take a walk. He apologizes. He asks her to testify against Uli, to show how much she now hates him. She says she can't do that. Manuel says he won’t push things romantically anymore, unless she wants it. Acacia says that friends with benefits is not her thing. Este comes upon them hugging and gets pissy, but says it’s her business. Manuel is the umpteenth person to say out loud that Este’s attitude isn’t NORMAL.

The episode closes out with Acacia getting all up in Cris and Este’s business, and Este’s face, again. She asks Este what’s up with him and her mom, and urges him to go find Cris (who is in San Jacinto meeting with Hector) and make up. All the while, exchanging long, searching glances with Este, which have nothing to do with Cris.

Hector has just shown Cris a mock-up of the promotional material for her exposition and she gets emotional and teary. She needed one good thing to happen today and this was it. Hector goes to hug her, and then says he’s never stopped loving her, just as Este walks in!

Avances: Acacia prays about not having these feelings for Esteban. Esteban confesses to Al's tomb that he killed him! Esteban and Acacia kiss! (But is it for real?)

Thanks, Vivi. I have not had a chance to watch this episode yet. I am anxious to see what happened,

Vivi, you captured the spirit and essence of our beloved (and not so beloved) characters flawlessly. A marvelous, well constructed and heartfelt summary. There was no detail you did not encompass.

"(note that she means Cris shouldn’t be jealous of Este, while we in the audience know it should be Cris being jealous of Acacia)" and "Manuel is the umpteenth person to say out loud that Este’s attitude isn’t NORMAL" were my favorite lines of many.

In reading and digesting your words, I think you described what Cris should be feeling perfectly. I think I've been a bit harsh on Cris. She believes she is happily married and her daughter has done what she wanted, gotten close to Este. She now feels usurped in Acacia's confidence. How could she possibly know her husband aches for her daughter??

Acacia's fantasy has revealed she is aware of the feeling stirring inside her. She knows better. Rather than compounding insult to injury by the public praise, handholding and hugging, she should retreat and treat Este with respect and from a distance. Este is reprehensible as he knows something terrible befell Uli yet chose to remain quiet. He should stay away from Acacia and try to rekindle the flame with Cris.

I could not find one thing to criticize about Lizzie. Unfortunately.

My heart broke for Luisa. Rosa was acting like a brute and her pulling Luisa from hugging Arturo was terrible. Luisa, like Acacia, continues to make bad choices.

Ahh Hector. The dear man makes a confession only to be overheard by Este. Will this be Este's excuse to finally follow his feelings for Acacia?

Vivi, thank you. Can't wait to read your next summary.

Diana

Estalker..ha...love it, VIvi. He makes me feel all icky. GET A GRIP. Is there a term for a male cougar ?

As the saying goes..."what someone sees depends on what he or she is looking for." Chris cannot imagine this scenario happening; therefore, she does not see it.

Diana..I do not want Estebad to rekindle the flame with Chris. I want him gone. He does not deserve her. His knowing about Uly and doing nothing seals the deal that he is not a good guy.

It is interesting that Rubio that sly snake is trying to influence and manipulate Esteboob, and Estegone does not seem to notice.

Susanlynn, ITA. I have said several times that I hope and expect him to be gone (not dead but out of the picture) before this ends (speculation only).

I meant that at this time from his perspective he should be concentrating on Cris and stop his obsession from Acacia cold.

He is personna non grata to me.

Diana

Thanks for the recap!

This whole thing with our three main characters is getting weirder by the episode. A part of me agrees with Cris but another part feels that she's overreacting. It seems to me like she still feels guilty about letting Acacia go live with her grandparents and not being able to spend those years watching Acacia grow and sharing things with her. I am wondering if she thinks Acacia resents her, not because of Este, but because she (Cris) let Acacia go without a fight.

Poor Luisa. She still can't see that Manuel is just using her. I think his efforts to influence Acacia and Luisa to be on his side when it comes to the case against Ulises will be in vain.

Chris thinks that "acacia has to make her own happiness and not rely on someone else"...wow..wise woman. Now if only pouty, petulant Ack would listen to her mother.

TF...Excellent points. Mothers often feel guilt if their children are unhappy . Ack needs to grow up and stop giving out warm hugs like Olaf.

Show of hands...What are the chances Chris ends up with her first love Hector? Do you know of anyone in your real life who eventually reunited with a first love ? I do.

That's true, Susanlynn.

I don't know really know if I can say that Este is taking advantage of these situations and of Cristina's feelings of guilt (it seems logical though) but I think that's partly Cristina's mistake as well. She hasn't completely put her finger on what's going on even though she is starting to take the reigns over Acacia.

Yikes..I just watched Estebutt sweeping the objects off the table and going all BSC after finding out about Manuel and Ack. Yuck..

All- I've just realized that this wasn't a combined episode. Ni modo. I've done a complete recap for tomorrow's episode. It's a doozy! And I really don't think there's any way they can cut and combine it. So, stay tuned tomorrow-- well, tonight since I can post it as soon as it's aired on the East Coast.

Thanks, Vivi . How are you feeling ? Didn't Chris look gorgeous in that bright red satin robe ? Estebad is a fool not realizing how lucky he is to have Chris. Jacka$$.

That's wonderful Vivi. Thank you so much! Eagerly looking forward to reading your recap tomorrow.

TF, I think Cris' guilt (for the reasons you mentioned) is a huge component of wanting to "reclaim" Acacia. I think though she is still oblivious to their growing attraction. She will be devastated.

Diana

What is Rubio's game ? What does he hope to gain by encouraging Estebutt to act on his desire for Ack ? He is such a sneaky snake...slithering close to Estebad and whispering in his ear.

Yikes...Did You all see the advances after last night's episode ? Wow..and I repeat..yikes.

Great work Vivi, always amazed your attention to detail and memory.

So, bosslady Cris has laid down new rules for the emasculated boytoy she married and the daughter she doesn't really relate to. If ever there was a control freak she be it. If anything Cris is greasing the slide.

Boy, Manuel is one worthless punk trying to manipulate and cajole these girls to give testimony against Uli to save his butt.

Susanlynn- Yikes is right! As Gringo says, must see tv!

Tofie- I actually love that Cris lays down the law when she needs to. This is NOT the typical Victoria Ruffo weeping woman role. Cris is nice, but she's no pushover. Plus, she does give Esteban his place and lets him be the man of the house. She treats him with respect. Let's him be the head of the ranch and the Association. By rights, that's HER place.

Susanlynn, I think Rubio is exploiting Esteban's weakness to take him out of play. Rubio fancies himself big boss material and Esteban in the way. Not sure what his play would be should Esbeban not whisk Acacia off but get rid of Cris because she holds the purse strings.

Susanlynn- Thanks for asking. I just moved back to my place the other day, so I have been cooking for myself and organizing stuff-- and getting achy and tired. That's why I've fallen asleep by 9pm the last couple of nights. Tomorrow I see the surgeon and hopefully will get a clean bill of health and can get back to work by next week.

Vivi...Be careful to continue to take it easy. Sometimes, as we are feeling better, we overdo. Please be kind and gentle to yourself. Sending out good vibes ))))))))))

tofie...I am dying for you to do your excellent, biting one liners for these crazy characters,...so many possibilities here.

TF- Absolutely, Cris feels guilty for letting Acacia go live with the grandparents. Yes, maybe it was a mistake. But at the time, it was the best of all the options.

Option 1: Make Acacia stay at the ranch with Cris and her new husband, bitter and resentful, always trying to run away.

Option 2: Cris gives up on love, a love life, men, marriage, to keep her pre-teen daughter happy.

Option 3: Cris gets married. Acacia goes to live with her loving grandparents in their happy home, seeing her mother every weekend and speaking to her on the phone every day.

I'm sure at the time Cris thought it would just be temporary, but I can see how it easily became permanent with Acacia's stubborn character.

I think Option 4 should have been explored-- Cris dates Esteban; Acacia stays. Cris, Acacia, and later Esteban go to family and individual therapy to heal and move on.

tofie..,my plea to you to do your fabulous one liners for this show disappeared. You could have a field day with these folks,

I forgot to mention that during their argument Este offers to buy Acacia a new horse and Cris nixes that idea. 1) Because they don't have that kind of money right now, and 2) Because Acacia hasn't been staying on the straight and narrow enough to deserve such an expensive gift. That's when she mentions Acacia kissing Manuel. I still have a suspicion that Este is responsible for the horse's injury and/or purposely didn't bring the vet.

oh, Susanlynn I have considered, there is plenty of fodder. I've become so bored with La Gata I started watching this one with more regularity, though I still post them there and for Mi corazon es tuyo daily.

Many characters here are hilarious, yet entertaining. Dandy Dan alone is killer

Vivi and Diana I agree with what both of you said.

Vivi, your theory about the horse is interesting. I didn't think of that. You reminded me that I was a little confused at how Cris wants to be the first person that Acacia goes to for everything and when Acacia did tell her first about what happened with Manuel, Cris goes and tells Estebonkers right away. Even Acacia said something along the lines of that Cris criticized her for what happened.

Vivi – It’s wonderful that you are feeling up to recapping again, yay! Superb work. My favorites:

Estalker

Medicine Woman (MW) and her granddaughter Medicine Girl (MG)

WTF! He’s still your brother, idiot. You have the same mom!

I give Cris kudos for clearly explaining separately to Esteban and Acacia her problem with them -- that he’s usurping her as the No. 1 parent Acacia should turn to and that both of them should quit it. Cris can’t get back those years she let the spoiled brat stay with her grandparents (though she did visit Acacia once a week during that time), but she’s doing a good job now.

As for Acacia’s crush on Esteban, I don’t think it’s that unusual to have an inappropriate crush, though steddad-steddaughter is too close for comfort. But if Acacia would recognize it for what it is and leave it alone – that is, no spending the night alone in the same room and otherwise keep her distance, it would fade. The fact that all Acacia can think to do to avoid her feelings for Esteban is to date Manuel is so stupid. Dummy, why not enroll in school or help out a charity? Or figure out why Ale looks so miserable whenever Danilo enters the room? Veronica Mars you ain’t.

I think Rubio’s game is to have something to hold over Esteban’s head. Plus, he gets a kick out of seeing the high and mighty (which Este has become) act stupid.

Shocker, I’m siding with Norberto. He is German’s father and should be there when Juliana tells their son the truth. Andres got screwed when Juliana didn’t tell him she was pregnant, but that doesn’t give him the right to just “take” German from Norberto. Andres saw Norberto being abusive to German, but their father-son relationship is more complicated than that. German loves that fool and Norberto made peace with him after the “accident.”

At least both Acacia and Luisa are holding out against badmouthing Ulises in court. I don’t understand how they could anyway since neither had anything to do with his work. All Acacia could say is “He took a picture with Nuria at a public reception, wah!” or “He had the nerve to hit Manuel in defense after Manuel had punched him first and pressed false charges against him, wah!”

Thanks Niecie! All I can think is that Luisa and Acacia are supposed to be character witnesses. And we know what Acacia will say about his character, based on what she thinks he did to poor little her.

Niecie- ITA. The relationship between Norberto and German is complicated. And Andres did back off to give Juli and Norb the chance to first speak with German. But I get why Andres is so fired up. He's already seen the worst of how Norb treats German. He was already ticked off about that without even knowing that German was his son, and why Norb was treating him so badly. Now that he knows that, plus realizing that Juli cheated him of 20+ years of being a father, he's ready to make up for lost time.

I think Andres issue is with Juli (what a winner she is) first and back off on being a cowboy. Andres hasn't been in Germans life and agree he has no clue what it was like in the home.

Acacia might also add "My step daddy does not like Uly, and I believe everything step daddy says because he is a god."

tofie...I have not been watching Gata because it has become too frustrating to watch. Basta.

If TPTB are not fooling us, the advances are very exciting . It looks like some major developments are happening tonight.

Susanlynn- One of your comments disappeared, but luckily I selected for comments to be sent to my email box, so here is your disappeared comment:

Vivi..thanks, Vivi...I was hoping that the new update from Apple for my IPad would stop the vanishing comments, but some still are disappearing.

Susanlynn- You need something like comment crazy glue to make your comments stick. ;-) At least most of them are sticking around today.

I definitely don't think it's a good idea for Andres to tell Germán the truth, but I agree that he deserves a chance to make up for lost time. Hopefully Germán will give that chance. If Juli doesn't tell Germán the truth that she left Andres (which I doubt she will) hopefully Germán will believe Andres if he tells him.

Vivi, "I still have a suspicion that Este is responsible for the horse's injury and/or purposely didn't bring the vet".

Perish the thought! I really hope you are wrong - that would be another unforgiveable sin.

Diana

Niecie "All Acacia could say is “He took a picture with Nuria at a public reception, wah!” or “He had the nerve to hit Manuel in defense after Manuel had punched him first and pressed false charges against him, wah!”

You are on fire as usual!!! Excellent.

Diana

I finally made it back and I know that it's late but want to thank you Vivi for your great recap today.
I'm glad that you are almost all mended. Now if Madelaine get mended also, that would be awesome

Some have mentioned about the horse. I was thinking the same thing. Ok, the horse got hurt. It's Acacia's, she loves it. There are animal doctors nearby and you have a phone---so shoot the horse? Que?

So Esteban did kill Alonso. OK but was it on purpose or was it an accident?

I can't wait for Ulises to make it back but I also am afraid for him, the deck is stacked against him.

Looks like Luisa is finally getting the message that she has been used.

Damn! Rosa is tough on her. Take it easy Rosa, PLEASE!

The BIG kiss tonight. Oh my! What I am waiting for is, who initiate
it, Will it be Estebone, Acacia or a both together mutual thing.

Will they get caught?
Must see TV tonight.
the gringo

Gringo- So glad you were able to comment. I'm antsy for tonight's episode too. :)

Este did call the vet. At least that's what he said. We never heard the other end of the call. Supposedly the vet was occupied with another case and was not able to come out to Benavente that day. That's why they had to put the horse down. (And what a good horse actor, no? I was impressed by how still he was as he lay on the ground with Acacia's hands over his eyes.)

I am confused. I thought that in the beginning of this novela, we were led to believe that Norb had killed Alonso.

gringo, I always look forward to reading your comments and getting your take off things. You are a fun guy...and a nice guy.

Susanlynn- I can't help out because I never saw that episode.I'm going by what others have said in the comments and the early recaps. If there was not exact shot of Norberto killing Alonso, then the writers faked the audience out if Este is the killer. It was implied. Norb had motive. People like Juli have even suspected him. But we have never heard Norb admit to it to himself or to anyone else.

Vivi..I remember several replays of the scene in which we saw someone using a crowbar or something to shift the rocks which fell on poor, gorgeous Alonso. We never saw a face , so it could have been Norb, a paid henchman, Este, or anyone. It could have been an accident. I just thought that Norb admitted to Juliana that it had killed Alonso to get the ranch.

Nope, he never admitted it to Juli. He just looked shifty eyed and guilty when she accused him. But he always looks like that, and it's not like he didn't think about offing Al (even if he didn't do it).

I questioned Esteban's possible motive for killing Alonso last week, I think. The only theory I had was that he was jealous of Al because of Cris. I don't think Esteban really loves Cris though, but for whatever reason he wanted her (and now he wants Acacia).

Did Este want Chris, or did he want the ranch ? He was a poor worker. He was quick to offer Chris his help to save the ranch after Aonso's death.
