La Malquerida #68, 11/27/2014: Uli’s Getting Sent to the Big House

Mexico Episode #74

I’m too filled with turkey, stuffing, and pie to go into details tonight, so here are bullet points to get the conversation going…

-After Acacia spills the beans about Cristina’s pregnancy to Esteban, he backs off. Then he stares at Cris throughout their contract meeting with McCormick, and says nothing. He offers no protest when Cris says from now on, she and Acacia will be the only people listed as administrators of Benavente. This leaves Cris even more convinced that Esteban does not want to reconcile, and she says so to Acacia. Knowing that she blabbed about the pregnancy, Acacia is surprised that Este didn’t work things out with Cris.
-Acacia, Cris, and we, get a tour of McCormick and learn how Benavente’s strawberries become delicious jams.
-Elena tells Juan Carlos about the pregnancy. He tells Cris that he is not in agreement with her keeping it secret from Esteban (he’s responsible for the child as its father), but in the end says he will support her decisions. He’s also super happy to once again become a grandpa. Cris says that she will give Este one more month to decide what the heck he wants. After that she’ll tell him she’s pregnant, but not so that he’ll return.
-Este tells Rubio about Cris’ pregnancy. His parents abandoned him in an orphanage, and he swore he would never abandon his own child. He feels that he has to go back to Cris. Rubio points out that this means that Este has to forget Acacia forever. Or does Este intend for her to become his child’s stepmother? Este is not amused by this joke. Rubio points out that even if he returns to Cris, Este is no longer the ranch administrator and will need to make some money, for his backup escape plan. He subtly pushes Este to partner with Danilo.

-Norberto disregards Manuel’s real concerns that he could end up in a horrible marriage like his parents if he marries Acacia, who does not love him. Norberto at first tries to convince him that it’s not the same since Acacia is genuinely disenchanted with Ulises, and would not be marrying Manuel for money like Juli did him. Then he threatens Manuel that if he throws away everything he’s done to get Uli out of the way, Manuel will regret it!
-Norberto goes to Benavente to try to strong-arm Juliana back home. She is less than cooperative. Juan Carlos comes out before they can break too many of Cris’ valuables, and tells Norb to go home and come back when he can act like a real man, and not a macho pig.  Juli hugs JC and smiles smugly behind his back. Norb spends the rest of the episode trying to drink away his sorrows.

-Carmen meets Hector at the jail, and is suspicious of why he wants to help her son. She eventually calms down enough to realize she can’t look a gift horse in the mouth, and thanks Hector graciously.
-Hector meets Andres at the jail, and the two look like they’ll make a nice alliance. Uli wants Andres’ help setting up medical services in Itzel’s obscure town, as he had promised. Andres will get right on it, but says they need more money to finance something like that. Hector offers up the needed money.

-Danilo drags Ale into the Soto mini-mart, just as German and Lizi are smooching. Dan enjoys rubbing it in Ale’s face and comments on what a lovely couple German and Lizi make. He wonders if all customers receive that kind of attention. German demands that Dan respect his GIRLFRIEND. Lizi is surprised and pleased that she is now officially his novia. Outside, Dan tries to taunt a reaction out of Ale, but all he gets is hostile silence, until she says that now she has even less reason to live.
-Later, Dan has Julianita watch Ale, while he’s at Uli’s hearing. Julianita wants to make friends, but Ale is not thrilled to make friends with one of her jailers. When Julianita mentions her fantasy of marrying her “Norbertito”, Ale realizes she is speaking about Norberto Palacios. Julianita is at first jealous, but Ale assures her that she has NO interest in Norb, who is the father of her ex-boyfriend. Julianita and Ale decide to be friends. When Dan gets home, he  ups the threat ante by telling Ale that he just might kill Lizi, and hurt German that way, if Ale doesn't play nice.

-It’s the preliminary hearing of Uli and Nuria. As expected, Perla and Juliana testify against Uli and Nuria. Luisa and German (much to Juli and Manuel’s displeasure) testify in favor of Uli and his honest character. Acacia bursts in, and testifies AGAINST Uli! (Idiot!) The legal clerk has to remind her that they’re there to talk about fraud, not infidelity, when she goes off about her own little soap opera. She says that Uli’s infidelity shows that he’s not a trustworthy person. Hector brings in the surprise witness- Hernan, the construction site manager! Hernan explains how everything went down- how shocked both he and Uli were to discover that Nuria had double sold lots; how they couldn’t find the contracts; how she disappeared; and how they BOTH went looking for her. After hearing this, Acacia starts to feel bad and doubt what she just did. Hector tells her that what she did was WRONG.
-Unfortunately, even Hernan’s testimony is not enough to prove Uli’s innocence. Both Uli and Nuria are sentenced to go to the prison in San Jacinto to await trial! Carmen cries, but takes the time to thank Luisa. Art tells Carmen she needs to stay strong for Uli. Uli feels like there is no reason for him to keep fighting, after seeing Acacia testify against him. Carmen tells him to keep his head down in prison, and to not let what Acacia did throw him into depression, because Acacia is NOT worth it. Amen!
-Nuria threatens the lawyer Norberto provided her—if he doesn’t get her out of this mess, she’ll spill the beans about how Norb coached her to lie. The lawyer doesn’t look happy about this threat, but promises to see if Norb can get her out on bail.

-Acacia regrets having testified against Uli out of jealousy/anger/spite, especially after hearing Hernan’s testimony. She whines and cries to Hector, her family, and Manuel. Rubio eavesdrops as she tells Manuel about how Hector is representing Uli and believes in his innocence. She asks Manuel not to let Cris know that Hector is representing Uli. (In the scene where Manuel and Hector meet for the first time in the jail, and get all prickly with each other, it’s funny to watch Arturo Peniche try hard not to crack up as he acts for the first time opposite his son, Brandon.)
-Rubio reports everything to Esteban, and Este is NOT pleased to hear that Hector is helping Uli and getting close to Acacia.
-The evening ends with Este returning to the hacienda and telling Cris that he’s now clear about what he wants. He wants to be with HER!

Avances: Acacia walks in on Cris and Este kissing, and can barely hide her look of jealousy. Acacia asks Este if he’s returned because he loves Cris, or because of the baby.

Comments:
I am still shocked that Acacia went and testified against Uli, when she should have just kept her whiney butt at home. It's one thing to doubt him, but quite another to actively participate in sending him to prison.

Vivi, thank you for the marvelous recap, a real Thanksgiving treat. A fantastic, delicious summary.

"Acacia bursts in, and testifies AGAINST Uli! (Idiot!) The legal clerk has to remind her that they’re there to talk about fraud, not infidelity, when she goes off about her own little soap opera" was wry and wonderful and my favorite among many lines.

If we knew Este was an orphan, I did not remember. It explains why he feels at least some (unwanted) obligation to return. The saddest thing to me was that months ago (a year ago?), before his crazed infatuation with Acacia began, he would have been deliriously happy as he still truly loved Cris.

But Este is a murderer, lest we forget. This "reunion" cannot last, nor should it.

I used to think Rubio's plotting and machinations were somewhat interesting as he pretended to play the dolt. Now, his ploys simply sicken me.

And Acacia had to pour salt on the wound by inserting her crushed feelings on Uli's supposed infidelity into the serious hearing. What an utterly selfish girl.

Like you Vivi, I was delighted to see father and son together - both actors are great and I really like Brandon who is doing a good job with his less than impressive character.

And poor Ale. I don't think I ever saw her as devastated as she did seeing Lizi and German. It was maddening as she made no pretense that she was part of a loving couple. I can't blame German for not seeing but I am really wondering how much longer she will be able to endure this.

The Andres/Hector alliance was the one bright light last night.

Vivi, thank you for your generous time. I hope you had a wonderful day - you have certainly started my day off in splendid style.

Diana

Vivi, ITA, but in reality it was truly indicative of how self centered and selfish Acacia really is.

I would be overcome with such shame and regret after hearing Hernan's testimony, I don't know how I could live with myself. But, I'm sure Acacia will somehow reconcile what she did. Blech.

Also, I was delighted that Luisa was there for the family and very, very happy German got on board.

I have renewed hope for Luisa.

Diana

Yay! Diana- I always love seeing your comments. Yes, we knew Este was an orphan, which is why it was so special to him that Rosa walk him down the aisle when he married Cris, since she's the closest thing to a mother he's ever had. I think his orphan status might also explain why he was so jealous of Alonso and coveted his life. He saw Al as a man who had everything and all the advantages he never had, and who was wasting it.

Vivi, yes, now I recall the wedding and Rosa walking Este down the aisle. I can only think of Karen Carpenter's sad lament as to how "long ago and oh so far away" that now seems. So many memories have proven to be lies and illusions of happiness have faded as they have now been unearthed and exposed.

Again, I do enjoy the serious nature of the plot but I yearn to see love which is so much at the heart of these TNs. And I'm sorry, as much as I like them individually, German and Lizi do not work for me. I want to yell "that should be Ale" every time I see them together.

There must be a happy ending for those who love blindly and passionately, who sacrifice everything for others, not themselves.

And that person is Ale.

Diana

Vivi..thanks for that wonderful review, I was not able to watch, so I really appreciate your excellent retelling. Well, it is Thanksgivingtime , and Este is the turkey.. I cannot believe that Ack testified against Uli. What a spoiled, selfish baby.

Thanks, Vivi. Your "bullets" are so full-bodied and rich with all the details that I missed last night.

I too loved the legal clerk cutting off Acacia's yammering about Uli's supposed unfaithfulness to her. How she can use the word "unfaithful" with ease is beyond me.

So proud of Luisa. She was nervous and afraid but spoke up for Uli anyway. Nice to see Carmen thank her.

Wondering if Esteban wanting to return is more about preventing Acacia from repenting over her breakup with Uli than it is his wanting to get close to the unborn baby. If he does return, Acacia should move out pronto.

ITA Hector was so funny silently assessing that little twit Manuel. I imagined Peniche Sr. thinking "Son, glad to see you finding regular work."

Thanks for commenting Susanlynn and Niecie! I hope you both had a great Thanksgiving.

Susanlynn- ITA. Esteban is a turkey alright. Unfortunately, since no one knows just how depraved he is, he'll continue to be thought of as a good man.

What's getting me, among many things about Acacia, is that she now knows that her mother's husband is actively pursuing her. Yet, she still encourages her mother to get back together with him! She just tried to send her ex boyfriend to jail for supposedly cheating on her. Yet, she thinks it's ok for her mother to be with a man who's trying to cheat on her with her daughter?!

I am sorry that I missed the father/son scene. I am very glad that Hector and Andres met and will hopefully form a united front to fight the baddies. Este's hard luck beginnings are no excuse for what he is doing now.

Vivi..excellent points about Ack. She needs to grow up and become less self absorbed.. This novela is so different from the other novelas I have watched. The guy who appeared to be the galan is suddenly revealed as a villain. I did not see that coming,

Vivi...we actually had delicious tacos for dinner for a thanksgiving because it was a quick meal and our daughter is working this week. (It is not Thanksgivinghere.) our turkey dinner will be tonight or tomorrow.

Susanlynn- Tacos sound pretty yummy too. I'm sure it will be wonderful when your daughter can join you. This was the first Thanksgiving in years that my mom didn't have to work. It was so nice having her there.

Susanlynn, tacos sound great. I ended uphaving frozen fajitas myself and they were just fine!

Hub didn't make it home but am hoping he will make it tonight or tomorrow.

Diana

Hi Vivi...Thanks for a wonderful recap. It's so much appreciated since the captions last night in both English and Spanish were seriously delayed, and I couldn't follow them.

Diana, you said you're really wanting to see LOVE in this novela. I agree, and I'm hoping we will in the end see Chris and Hector reuniting in mature and deep love. Ale is so damaged that I wonder if she could even sustain a relationship with German, even if all the secrets were out in the open. I want to see Uli find true love because he deserves it. So does Andres. Manuel is a mess and a poster boy for how damaging it is to grow up in an alcoholic family. The only person who sickens me more than Rubio, Norbeto, and Danilo is Julianita. Blech with a capital B.

Thank you for the recap/summary.

Acacia is getting more dumb by the episode. She had no reason to be at the hearing. She really had nothing to contribute. At least Germán and Luisa testified in Uli's favor.

I was this close to changing the channel during the scene where Dan and Ale go to Lizzy's store. So cringeworthy. Dan seemed to enjoy the encounter. Poor Ale has to endure Dan shoving in her face that fact that Germán has moved on.

I totally didn't even think about the fact that father and son Peniche were acting in a scene together. I did find it humorous how Hector called Manuel "jovencito" or something like that.

Nice to have you comment Dona Gringuita! My sister, who is visiting, doesn't speak Spanish, and has watched the show quite a few times now, thinks the two most evil characters are Dan and Juliana. I thought it was interesting that she put Juli above Este, Norb, and Rubio, but can't say that I don't agree with her.

I do think Ale is capable of being in loving relationship-- more so than some of our characters who have had a normal life, like Acacia.

DIana,,,Did you get a lot of snow ? Hub and I left to drive north Tuesday night instead of early Wednesday morning as planned because of the snow prediction. We stayed over in upstate NY. And arrived here Wednesday afternoon. We encountered no snow. At home, we got about 6 inches and schools cancelled.

TF- ITA with your whole comment. I so want someone to slap some sense into Acacia. How can Uli ever forgive her after this?

I wonder who will be left standing in the end. I really do not want Ack to end up with Uly , but I am afraid that she will. I want these couples together...Cris and Hector, Carmen and Andres, German and Ale. I do think Luisa deserves sweet Art, but she will probably get him. Rubio and Este and Danduablo and Norb could be prison couples, but I do think some of them will die.

Vivi,

I think Acacia will regret not believing in Ulises and I definitely don't think he will be so forgiving. Unfortunately she may lose him for good. Acacia was very selfish in making it all about her. She doesn't even have proof of infidelity either so she has no right to accuse Ulises of that.

Thanks so much Vivi.

Acacia wants Esteban, she just trying to make it his fault solely.

Esteban is returning to the house to keep Acacia away from Manuel, do a side deal for extra cash and close the deal with Acacia. Cris being pregnant is just a great reason to be in the house.

Thanks for working on your holiday
Vivi. Even Thanksgiving can't stop some of us La Malquerida fanatics.
LOL---The legal clerk had to remind Acacia that this case is about fraud not infidelity. I'm sure that princess Acacia thought
that it was all about her. Isn't this divorce court?

Vivi---I am NOT surprised at all about Acacia's testimony against Ulises. Acacia is a spoiled pampered princess. Not only that, she is a "spurned" woman or so she thinks. Lock him up! She's out to put the big hurt on Uli for dumping her for that brazen woman Nuria. Her actions are perfectly clear to me.

But---After the foreman's testimony---well what do you know,
Acacia's having second thoughts.

Vivi---You gave us an interesting take on Acacia. Uli cheated, was unfaithful to her, off to jail for you but Estebone cheating on Cris? Well you guys should kiss and make up. Que?

Diana---I agree. As nice as Lizi is, I just cant can't see her with German.

QUESTION?---Who does Nuria's hair and makeup while she is locked up?
She looked pretty nice at the hearing.

Susanlynn---Tacos for thanksgiving
sounds pretty good to me. Turkey is nice once or twice a year but tacos are wonderful every weak. They never get old.

I don't know how things will turn out but I can see Itzel being held in secret waiting to testify on Uli's behalf at the trial. Itzel will be the big bombshell surprise that will get Uli freed.

Where is the handwriting expert?

When the chips are down, Nuria will crack. What will Norbie do?
La Malquerida just keeps getting better and better.

I am waiting for a face to face of Luisa and Acacia. That could be good.

What is piss ant Manuel going to do next? Will he try one last time for Acacia? Stay away from Luisa you worthless piss ant!!!

Loved the McCormic scenes.
the gringo

Oh my gosh, it's every week, not weak. Maybe I had too much turkey yesterday.
the gringo

Susanlynn, the first snow we got was today but the western part of MA got severely hit Wednesday night.

Dona Gringuita,I would be happy, no make that delighted, if Hector and Cris end up together. It is important that German and Arturo be happy but imperative that Ale does too.

TF, Acacia tests the limits of selifishness daily. I hope Uli does not forgive her.

gringo, I laughed at your comment about Nuria. She does look great doesn't she, nary a hair out of place! :)

Diana

Tofie- Yeah, I don't think Este's sole motivation is the baby either. It's all the things you mentioned. Plus I don't think he likes the idea of Hector influencing her either.

Gringo- LOL about Nuria's prison makeup. Maybe her deal with Norb included an in house makeup artist.

tofie, I agree - Cris is just Este's pass into the house.

How sad.

Diana

Yes, gringo, the tacos were delicious. I do not make them because Hub does not like them, but I used to make them when my daughters were living at home because the three of us love them.

It was sweet that Uli was asking Andres to set up medical care for Itzel's village even though he was going on trial for some thing that he is innocent of, What a contrast to Ack. Unlike Ack, he does not just think about himself 24/7.

Yep, Esteban wants to keep a close eye on Acacia and away from Hector too.

He is delusional if he thinks he will end up with Acacia, the child and the ranch unless he has already planned an "accident" to befall Cris.

Everyone discussing poor Itzel and it freaks me out thinking she may pray for her days locked up cultivating drugs. Jumped from the frying pan into the fire by helping Uli. I know she'll do it, sad.

I just cannot get my head around German reuniting with Ale once everything is disclosed. I know I should not consider her past because it was not her fault and she has martyred herself for him but as much a survivor as she is she's gonna need years of help to live any semblance of a normal life. More power to the girl.

It is going to be interesting now that Este has decided to move back to the comfy hacienda. He has lost all reasoning at this point, so I expect to see a lot of scenes of Este stalking Ack and hovering around her. I am hoping that Cris Jc, or Elenita finally catch one of these close encounters of the worst kind. Dies he plan to slip back into that big bed with Cris ? Will she let him slip back under the sheets? Please...nooooo.

I don't think Acacia will let him slip back in with Cris without punishment. She's acting like a teen with a crush that's dating her best girlfriend.

Ack needs to enroll in a couple classes or do some volunteering or start a new hobby...ha...joking !!! We all know that will never happen. If she had any sense and really loved her mother , she would tell her what Este has been up to ...that SHE Acacia is the other woman whom Cris was asking her about. She knows that Este is not a good person, but she is not warning her mother of this fact.

If Acacia lives on a hacienda, why does she always dress as if she is going to a club? Her mother Chris is dressed in jeans most of the time or long skirts with a vest. Just asking?
