Mi corazon es tuyo #77 4 Nov 2014... hankie-worthy ep... Our favorite sleepwalker is on the loose again... the 1001 nicknames for Isa... and Fernando opens up his heart to Alicia, to the delight of Ana and the rest of the family.

sorry the recap is long, but there were several very moving scenes i felt I needed to capture word by word.

Refritos:

No refritos… instead we got update on election results in local Uni station.

Lo Nuevo:

We pick up right where we left off Monday. (Fernando asks Ana whether Fanny and Leon went far since she slipped ‘they were careful…’)… Ana immediately changes the subject and they argue about the changes she is making to the recipe of the tea she is fixing him a 2nd dose of… he does not like lemon on it. He just wants an answer to his question. Ana claims she is not in liberty to give details of other people’s lives. Fernando gets a bit more irritated and grunts at her ‘Fanny trusts YOU, she surely told you something’. Ana rebutes yeah she trusts me because I don’t spill the beans!! (no abro la boca!!) Ana claims Fanny is her friend. Fernando pulls his card ‘and you are my employee!, and she is MY daughter’. Besides, let me tell you ‘el que calla otorga.’ (meaning if she won’t tell him it must mean it did happen). You just responded. She gives a bit disrespectful body language. Again she takes offense at his calling her ‘empleada’. (these two rather than lovebirds, look more like close age siblings). He rebutes that Ana is not fulfilling her job (as a nanny to a 19 year old?? GMAB!! He sounds like a 19 yr old himself, projecting blame away from himself!) Ana suggests he talk to Fanny directly himself. Then she asks ‘you don't mind if i get tea for myself too, right?? And what will we do if you get another episode of somnambulism?’ She ended up putting the lemon on it anyway so he stands up and dumps it in the sink repeating he does not want lemon on it. She claims the recipe includes lemon! She claims the work area of the kitchen is her SPACE. She then wants to talk about meeting halfway. He thinks this is about Fanny going out… she corrects 'nope, it is about your somnambulism issue.' What about we try placing some hurdles (objects) in his way between his room and hers. As they get to argue about that, Nando comes in and they cut the talk right there. He smells the tea. Ana explains about it. Nando asks if it works. Nando tells them he went to see Ximena. He asks if he can talk to both of them about it. Of course.

Laura and Reeky at his place… he offers to escort her out. She says 'no need, you are not my dad'. She had a great time. Will call you when I get home. She is very flirty with him…

Diego is looking in the phone book for the Valdez-Resendez. Wonders if the guy is still alive.

Fernando and Ana explain to Nando what is their concern. Nando agrees with them now. He is tired of the situation. He got mad at Ximena and left her at the place they were at. She is very fragile/unstable. He is afraid of losing her… of losing her forever.

Leon in his house texts Fanny that he 'got home. Good nite. Love ya'. He seems cold. He notices Mau is feverish. Leon checks Mau's belly area skin, there are pink spots all over (could be measles or chickenpox).

Ana is trying to sleep. Sleepwalker Fernando comes back in… getting in her bed again. She rolls out just in time before he puts his arm on her. She thinks he is faking it. She talks to him, claims he moved when she grabbed him. Ana runs in her bathroom and comes out narrating a stormy nightmare story and splashes him with a glass of water, yelling ‘Don Fernandoooooo!!’. He wakes up startled. She tells him she can read through his ‘intentions’. He is confused. (I doubt he was faking it). He tells her he wasn’t faking it. She makes him swear kissing on the finger cross. (basically makes him swear on his faith) He does. Ana then apologizes. Then she runs in her bathroom and runs out with a dark towel and rubs it all over his head… he pushes her and the towel away and then says ‘I realize it is my "subconscious"… it always brings me to you… it brings me to YOU no matter the obstacles' (she had put some obstacles on his way from his room ro hers, per what she told him earlier). She makes him stretch his hands and she puts ‘his subconscious’ in his hands and begs him to go sleep in his room 'for the love of God'. (once these two get together for good, their life will not be boring, that’s for sure!) As he walks away, she notes that he even had his slippers on. He says that is how he always gets out of bed/his room (wearing his slippers).

Doctor checks out Mau. Says the fever is under control, but for sure Mau has chickenpox. Doc says he should be indoors for a couple weeks, not to scratch and avoid contact with others. Fanny texts to Leon asking how’s Mau. He tells her. She gets concerned

Next morning at breakfast, everyone is getting their own favorite… shakes, eggs, pancakes, etc. Ana comes in tired. She has the hiccups. She tries to talk to the kids through it. Luz tells her she sounds funny. The twins play a prank on her, putting huge masks on… they scare both Ana and Manuela. Nando laughs out loud. Then they all think Ana’s hiccups went away… nope, there it is again. Fanny comes in and tells Ana that Mau has chickenpox.

Margarita and Reina come to see a lady who explains to them about the government programs to give them support (financial and training) on setting up their new shop, including classes on plumbing and electronics.

At the house Ana is trying the paper bag trick to get over her hiccups at the main room couch. Fernando comes down the stairs. She shouts his name (why?) she claims he always is scaring her. For a moment she thought the scare took the hiccups away, but she starts hiccupping again. He laughs about her hiccups. He is ready for them to go to see the psych doctor for the twins. He suggests she try drinking water upside down.

We meet the doctor, a young woman, greeting Fernando, Ana and the twins. Doctor tells Ana and Fer she needs to talk to the twins alone. Fernando grabs Ana by the arm, something she is not appreciating, but she doesn't really fiercely protest either. We see angel rings above the twins heads as they meet the doctor and confuse her saying they both are Guille and they both are Alex.

Ana and Fernando at the Psych doctor's waiting room. she is looking at the paintings on the wall. Ana feels like giving Fernando an art lesson: 'That's "Impresionismo" Did you see the 'impresionado' (shocked) face he has?' (LOL!) Fernando giggles a bit at her words but doesn't have time to correct her before Diego calls Ana on her cell. He is telling her he is outside the house of the guy who bought the guitar. She can’t believe he is already found him. She is very thankful to Diego. Fernando behind her is rolling his eyes. She is anxious, wants Diego to go ahead and knock on the door and let her know later what he finds. Diego goes ahead and knocks on the door.

Nico and Jenn … She is so proud to show him what she fixed herself (carnitas and cueritos = roast pork and pork skins)... he tells her he is a bit old to be eating a lot of fattening stuff … She apologizes for not realizing his dietary needs, but he recognizes her for making it all with lots of love. She promises she will learn to make him healthier food. Salads, etc. He asks her not to go to the other extreme either.

Back at Doctor waiting area: Fernando’s curiosity is too much, he asks her what it is she has to thank his brother for. She says where do I begin… have so much to thank him for… but this one… tops them all. Diego is looking for my mom. Fernando looks visibly deflated (wishing he had thought to do that himself)

Jenn brings Nico a second course… homemade chicken soup… she even took the skin and fat off… Nico says it smells great. But when he tastes it… seems it is WAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY spicy (like the top HEAT level in buffalo Wild Wings menu). He is choking… she wants him to drink juice…

Fanny and Edith at school. Fanny is worried about her brother being so worried about Ximena. Edith asks her more details. Fanny starts saying compliments about how much Nando has researched the subject of Ximena’s condition..and that he is super nice... Then Edith asks her about Leon. Fanny has not seen Leon much lately because of her school and now with Mau’s condition… Fanny looks at Edith's schedule and asks her about a photo journalism course that Edith has in it. Edith does not know much about it yet, it is her first time taking it. Fanny asks Edith if she likes photography. Then she suggests they take it together. OK. Edith tells her (warning her first that she usually does not give anyone compliments very regularly at all) she admires what Fanny is doing for Ximena. She sees people for their actions and the decisions they take, not for what they say. Definitely Fanny does not fit Edith’s stereotype of ‘princesa rosa de cuento’ (fairytale princess) hat she thought Fanny was. Fanny is excited Edith thinks that about her. Edith says see you in class and leaves. Fanny tells herself ‘I am no longer the fairytale pretty princess (princesa rosa de cuento).’

Herminio’s widow, Karina, is asking Diego why he is looking for him. Diego explains about the guitar the man bought 30 yrs ago. She says too bad, her husband died 7 yrs ago. Diego gets sad.

Ana and Fernando with the psych doctor. Doctor says the twins do present difficulty payin attention when the subject is not attractive to them. (sounds like my functional autistic daughter to a tee). Doctor wants the twins to keep coming in for therapy. Fernando asks about the meds. Doctor says no need for meds for now. (Fernando and Ana are delighted to hear that). Doctor recommends to watch their diet, lower the amount of sugar they consume. And add vitamin supplements. Ana compliments the doctor (and adds 'ud tranquila, nosotros preocupados' = you calm, we worried, saying we'll take care of that). Fernando is very relieved.

Diego asks Karina about the guitar. She says Herm bought the guitar and wanted to learn to play it. He always took the public bus on his way to and from work. There he would frequently see a woman who sang really well. He ended up giving the guitar to the woman. Karina recalls that the woman from the bus was pregnant (this gets Diego's attention). Her name was… Soledad. But after some time, Herminio did not see her anymore. No idea what happened to her.

Fernando, Ana and all the kids are exercising outside the house. Sebas asks Fernando what he is disguised/dressed up as… Fernando comes up with 'as the CLONES!!' (as the twins!!)… Ana and Fernando want to play the ‘freeze if you are touched by the ball’. Everyone has a name for it. Ana says when she was a kid they called it 'Burned', Luz said something different. Nando says it is called ‘marble statues’. (basically whoever the ball touches has to freeze and anyone else can touch them to unfreeze them) They all play, and enjoy themselves. Here come Isa and YoMama… Isa nags they look ridiculous… umbrella and all.. YoMama comments back that they look ridiculous but happy. And Ana the happiest of all. She seems the true wife of Fernando’s… ‘ay la verdad no peca, pero incomoda, verdad, Bomba?’ (a saying meaning the truth is not a sin but sometimes it is hard to swallow, eh?)

Ana freezes Fernando and the kids start teasing that he can only come back to life with a kiss… Ana starts avoiding it… but her phone rings at that moment. Fernando is frozen with a face like not liking the interruption, esp when Ana says it is a text from Diego who needs to talk to her… about her MOM!!!. All the kids tease Fernando again… They all leave him... well, one of the younger boys touches him but Fernando only has time to say 'I'm unfrozen!' before the other boy immediately touches Fernando with the ball so he has to freeze again (LOL!)

Diego tells Ana that he now knows her mom’s name… it is Soledad. Ana is moved… she asks what he found out. Diego says seems her mom is still alive… but she was in jail. So sorry, Ana. Ana asks why she was in jail. Diego says she was in jail because she killed someone. This really gets Ana upset… she thanks him for what he did… (but apparently this news is too much for her to take). She begs him to give her some time alone (to absorb it all). She walks away, he gets sad.

The kids ask Fernando why Ana has to see Diego outside. Before he can respond Ana comes back, but is upset. Fernando asks her how she is, what happened with her mom. Ana makes a 180 turn and says have to go to my room. Fanny offers to go after her. Fernando sends the rest of the kids inside to finish homework. On his way in Nando taps on Fernando’s shoulder for support. Fernando stays there alone worried.

Isa is in hallway and Ana has to go by her… of course they exchange insults and lovely nicknames like 'Tarantula' and 'smelly disgusting bug'… Ana goes on to her room… In comes Fanny and also calls Isa her fav nick, 'witch'. (what do you care, witch? Is her response to Isa’s asking what is up with everyone now?)

Outside Diego gives the latest facts to Jenn and Nico. Isa comes out and Jenn adds another nick, viper snake (vibora). Isa whines that everyone has a nick for her. Isa thinks that is classic ‘naco’ behavior. Jenn likes ‘tarantula’ the best. But she still likes others, like skunk tail. Nico has to walk Jenn away. Isa asks Diego what he is up to. Still courting the nanny? Yup! You deserve better… for starters, a woman who is not in love with another man… and even more when that other man is your own brother. (she keeps on walking and leaves Diego thinking)

Fanny comes in Ana’s room, says at least now you know your mom’s name (by the way, now it is official, Norma Herrera will play Ana’s mom, since she is in the credits as 'Soledad'). Ana is upset because her mom was in jail for killing someone. Jenn comes in, she heard what Ana said. Gives Ana a hug. So many years looking for her, you sure are so close to finding her. Ana says one builds so many ideas of who is your mom and what happened… Fanny argues you never know the circumstances. Jenn agrees. (Seems Ana is upset because in her mind there is no excuse to killing someone, and maybe the idea of her mom having killed someone somehow dims/lowers Ana's image of her) Fanny suggests maybe that is why Ana’s mom left her at the orphanage, because she had to go to jail. Ana gets thinking.

Fernando is helping the kids with homework in the homework room. Bruno comes to let him know Reeky is waiting for him at library.

Fanny tells Ana that Fer is helping the kids with homework. Ana wonders if he will stay all day. Ana tells Jenn that when Fernando is with the kids as the parent, he is different. She has to go help him. It is her job. Fanny and Jenn offer to help, Ana thanks them. They say it works both ways(she helps them, they help her). Nando comes in. with a gift for Ana… a laptop.. .so she can continue her research whenever she wants. He will teach her how to use it. Ana is utterly moved at his gesture. And we have a 4-time repeat of Ana hugging Nando and looking at laptop sequence (very nice phrase Ana said to him as she hugged him ‘las maquinas nunca van a superar a los seres humanos’ = machines will never overcome/replace human beings)

Leon is caring for Mau, not letting him scratch himself. Mau gets excited at the idea of watching cartoons with grandma instead of going to school for the next few days. Leon has to work but he will spend as much time as possible with Mau. Leon not sure if he has had chickenpox.

At Fernando's living room, Reeky says he only wanted to say goodbye to Fernando in person. ‘thanks for the opportunity, will always consider you my great friend… I will leave now’ (thinks to himself: but I will be back)

Alicia still looking at magazines with pictures (of Thalia!!) … boys and Luz come in with remote control car. They want to video-record Alicia, she gets upset. Then Alicia pulls an Isa-style nasty stunt and kicks the twins camera out of the remote car and then stomps on the poor remote car several times hard. The boys and Luz get scared. She basically destroys both the camera and the car. Ana, Fanny and Nando run in after all the noise and screams. Alicia claims she does not want any pictures or videos of her taken. Ana tells her that is not the way to handle it. The twins say she will have to pay for the car and camera. Luz asks her why she doesn’t want them to video her. She yells because I don’t want it! Because I come out ugly!! (Fernando is at the door and heard this last argument) Nando and Ana argue they had already talked to her about this. But she insists she will continue believing herself ugly until she is at least 20. Fernando comes in and asks to be left alone to speak to Alicia.

Fernando starts with admitting he and Alicia don’t talk often enough. She confirms. He admits that when Fanny Sr lived, she was the one who had frequent conversations with the kids, especially the girls. (Ana and the whole gang are watching from the door) He admits there are many things he doesn’t know much about. She says girls are harder to have chats with than boys. (that is debatable) He says he is trying to have better conversations with them all, she thanks him for the effort. It really means a lot to her for him to try. She wants to be like Fanny at times, but also wants to be herself, but not even sure how she wants to be. He says sometimes he feels exactly the same. But what does a 40-something man who worked all the time and forgot how to be a dad? No idea how you feel, but I can tell you how I feel. All this we have done recently is new to me. Like attempting to cook pancakes and playing games… So if you feel strange, imagine how I feel. But that is part of living. When I was a teen, I was thin as an asparagus. I wore glasses, slick hair (like Nando), and then I took refuge in books and learning. But you know? Maybe that was avoiding, I was hiding from people, from society, from girls. I felt panic when I tried to get close to girls. But then I realized I was hiding from myself. By staying away from people, no one would get to know me. I too lost my mom. I know perfectly how you feel. I felt angry. I felt like my mom had abandoned me. (Nando and Ana specifically are really moved by this confession) And although I kept hiding from society and from people, deep inside I kept expecting things. (like what?) what I thought life demanded of me… as a young man, to fake a sense of humor I never really had. Like you, dear. You suddenly believe you must be a woman. And society tries to fit you to molds, like you must be attractive, think, with no wrinkles, with no imperfections (and also smart). That’s right. (and how do you feel now, pa?) Now I realize how important it is to be yourself. The times I feel the most happy (is when you free yourself with us). Yeah. You are so beautiful. And very smart. Even though it might be difficult for you to see it yourself, you will never be just like the magazine models or like your friends or sisters. But never the same. Because you are unique. You are unrepeatable. You are Alicia Lascurain. You are my daughter. I love you. And I want to help you in this change. I want to help you find who you are, dear. If you let me. (yeah, pa. I will let you) (big embrace father/daughter… awwwwww!! The whole family is watching happy, Fanny, Nando and Ana group-hug to celebrate).

Previews: Ana tells Fernando about her mother having killed someone. They cry together (don’t cry, you are breaking my heart).. Luz then gets them close, gets their hands together and says ‘I don’t want to see you sad… I want you two to be happy together’

Thanjs so much. Especially the idiomatic expressions.
So Diego went from a first name to full identity with criminal history in one afternoon? Hmm...
Did anyone else find the crowd hanging on every word of an intimate father-daughter conversation both implausible and just wrong?

Thanks for a great recap. So well detailed and the translations were spot on.

I found the hiccup scene with Ana especially enlightening as my husband does that drinking water upside-down trick. I thought he made that up himself. It never seems to work. I myself drink nonstop nine (9) sips of water. Works great everytime.

I think this novela is going to be one PSA after another.

One additional note:

Wouldn't it be great if this novela strayed from typical TN land and instead of going blastic and tossing Ana out on her behind when he finds out about her pole-dancing job, imstead Fernando becomes understanding and helps get Ana out from under Doroteo's clutches.

Too much to ask for?

Don't apologize for the long recap Marta. It was brilliant and I enjoyed reading through some of the fun scenes from last night.

I love the interactions Fer is having with his kids, and the conversation with Alicia was well done. Partly because there is a part of Alicia that is open for this to start. Not every kid would sit or listen like she did, but it was sweet nonetheless. Hopefully she won't let Isa keep getting her claws in her, but I'm not expecting a full break yet. I still would have liked to see some repercussion for her outburst in destroying the car though. That was not necessary and a bit concerning at such an extreme reaction.

Poor Diego. He is going through all this and yet we are getting scenes that Fer and Ana are getting closer and closer. I love your comment they looked like bickering siblings, because they do! It will be interesting to me when Jorge joins the show to see his and Ana's chemistry too. And Ana, just stop making the stupid special tea.

Ok, my guess. Leon never had chicken pox, which in an older male can result in severe issues, or he will pass it on to someone else. All these PSA's are becoming mind-numbing.

Ok - throwing this out there. Edith is into photography. Who else do we know who is, hmmm? Just saying...I'd rather her with Nando though.

Chris... i have to admit I too had mixed feelings of awkwardness at Ana and the rest of the kids witnessing the entire intimate conversation of Fernando and Alicia. But that did not take from my being delighted that he finally has taken the bull by the horns and is taking on the father role head on.

Victoria... yeah wouldn't it be nice... but they always give us hints that Fernando has not changed his ways of being quick to react with rage/anger at things instantly without even thinking (this is why he is married to Isa in the first place, he did not stop to think of others before he DECIDED he would marry Isa)... and he always reacts angry at the kids pranks and Ana's peculiar ways before he takes a step back to think things over... And although I know Nico, Bruno and his own kids will make him regret his initial reaction to the revelation of Ana's secret, I foresee suffering for Ana and the kids on a temporary separation before the waters return to their normal levels. It is just Fernando's ways (he is learning to think about things, but his timing still needs work [ not before an initial reaction, remember how he has reacted to Fanny and Leon dating and then Fanny and leon in the car and punching Leon when he revealed the truth to Fanny and almost instantly regretting having punched him]). Rage-happy reacting first, thinking things through later. Esp when the issue/circumstance is not 'proper' in his book. It won't help that Diego will probably defend Ana obsessively/strongly and point at the differences between them (brothers) when it happens.

I agree that they made a point to state that Leon has not had Chickenpox to get him sick later. and yes, i had chickenpox myself during college after one spring break and it went even into my throat [i recall the doctor saying oh sh... when he looked in my mouth], earned me a whole week at the infirmary isolation room. no fun.

I agree, Daisy, that the more they try to pull apart, the more Fernando and Ana seem to get together... and team up on the things they have in common.
I mean, he is TRULY ignoring many of the standards he holds other people to when it comes to Ana. She kept yelling at him and making disrespectful body language moves in the kitchen, and instead of being offended he followed her lead... she shouts at him as he comes down the stairs when she has hiccups and he does not really reprimend her... he even took that line about impressionism at the doctor's office and you could tell he stopped himself from correcting her on the spot. He is surely changing his strict stiff ways, making exceptions around Ana.

Marta, the recap was excellent! Thanks!

just a very enjoyable episode!

Marta,

Thanks for your wonderfully detailed recap. It's a great help always with the slang and plays on words that no amount of studying seems to make easier! We are lucky to have your language skills at our disposal.

This was a sweet episode that sure makes it look like smooth sailing ahead. We long-time novela watchers know better, but it's sweet while it lasts.

thanks Marta, how did you keep the tear drops off the page?

A repeat of a sleepwalking Fernando kinda flat to me but the tussle in the kitchen between Ana & Fernando over the ingredients cute.

Edith - since we're friends now can I borrow that skirt

Mau - lets play connect the dots

Fernando - The Iceman Cometh

Ricky - "I'll be back"

Diego - next time consider a little white lie

Alicia - go go godzilla

Nic - my new bride is trying to kill me

Nando - Geek Squad

Oh Tofie:
Your best one liner ever--

Mau, let's play connect the dots.

Love it

ditto, love Mau's line and Edith's... you rock, tofie!

Marta, great job!

Tofie, keep those lists coming!

More later.

“Fernando has come a long way as a father, hasn't he?” said Zeus.

“Yes, he has,” said Hera. “It seems that his past insecurities were good for him that way. Just as they work against him with Ana.”

“That's really a pity, but the course of true love never did run smoothly.”

“Not even for us,” said Hera. “You have never been faithful.”

“But we're immortal; there's always tomorrow or next week or next century. They don't have that. And Ana has to figure out who is right for her.”

“That's as obvious as your lightning bolts.”

“So, we do need to get Eros to find a new woman for Diego... what about Fanny's new friend? Isn't she studying photography?”

“Surely you jest, Zeus. He is almost old enough to be her father.”

“He's not as old as Enrique. Even I don't like seeing him with Laura.”

“True, and at least Diego is an honorable man.”

I don't watch this show. I caught the last five minutes. That was spooky cute.

Thanks for the wonderful recap! For me, the longer the better!!

I wonder what Edith looks like under all that makeup?

Agree with Chris, Diego is some sleuth to get all that info in one day from a first name. Maybe he has the wrong Soledad?

Can men become sterile from chicken pox if they get it later in life? I'll have to google it. Wonder if that could be a complication for Leon and Fanny.

I like what Yomama said about Ana. Spot on. Even if I do still consider her anvil worthy.

Well, Yomama doesn't shy away from telling it as she sees it except when she lies.

It did look like Ana the children's mother and Fernando her husband.

Thanks Marta, great job.

Too bad Ana wasted her money paying for an private investigator when Diego, who isn't a professional, go so much closer to finding her mother. How does that woman stay in business? Now, can't Diego go to the local prison and ask them if there are any women there named Soledad?

Jen, why bother trying to cook for Nico, that's what you pay the help for.

So the twins have difficulty paying attention when the subject doesn't interest them. Who doesn't have this problem? There is nothing wrong that them. But this actually isn't even true. They were standing very obediently and quietly while Fernando talked with Alicia. That had to be very boring and uninteresting to 8 year old boys.

Can I say Ick! for Laura throwing herself at Enrique?

Thanks, Marta!

Again, we see absolutely no evidence that the boys have ADHD, so I am glad the doctor told them that they don't need to be medicated. Sure, they need some help learning how to pay attention and focus in school when the topic doesn't interest them. That is completely normal. And enjoying a few Twins Tricks doesn't make them Problem Children, either. Most of the time, though, they seem more calm and focused than I am, and I am not even close to hyperactive child.

There was a girl I went to school with who, when I had hiccups, would just take my hand and gently shake it like we were meeting, but keep doing that while talking to me about whatever in a soothing voice. It worked every time to get rid of the hiccups but I don't know if I could duplicate it myself.

I would think from here it would be fairly simple to search public records and find a woman named Soledad who had a baby girl around the time Ana would have been born and was arrested in Ecatapec or nearby. If Ana's mother did kill someone, I would guess it was in self-defense or she was being abused and fought back. Otherwise, I would guess she was framed. As a poor woman, she wouldn't have been able to afford a great defense and may have been unfairly punished.

Isabore is so insufferable. Really, sniffing about the family looking ridiculous playing games in the yard? She seems to think the only suitable activity for rich people is to sit around being served something fancy and bitching about how low-class everyone else is. BORING.

We called that game "freeze tag" but there was no ball, the tagger had to actually touch the person to freeze them.

Julia, we called it freeze tag too

Carvivlie:

That's actually the first thing I thought of when Leon said he didn't have chicken pox. I have heard that is one of the serious side affects for men catching it in later life.
Why I signed my boys up when the first rounds hit the doctors here years ago on the vaccine. That would be such a sad plot twist if they went there...though they would have little Mau and lord knows with Ana and Bruno as examples, adopt a brood of kids who have no homes or families to love them. Actually, now I think about it, I would kind of like that for those two. Or with Fanny's interest, become foster parents.

Daisynjay

Mumps in the teen years is a cause of male infertility; it happened to a former boyfriend of mine.

Chickenpox and measles have other, more serious consequences for adults and men are more vulnerable than women.

Wouldn't Leon's mom know if he had chicken pox? Why the mystery?

If Leon does get chickenpox, he could greatly limit the severity by taking antivirals immediately. In fact, maybe he should just start taking acyclovir NOW since he's been hovering around Mau and has never had it.

But then we couldn't have Leon Gets Sick drama. It would be a real problem for his family for him to be off work for a week or more, especially since his mother's food stand still is out of operation. I do like the idea of him and Fanny eventually adopting or fostering children, though, with or without an infertility storyline.

Laura is being super gross. Countdown to her getting knocked up with demon spawn, just a guess. A little sibling for Isa's demon spawn!

There is another potential issue here and that is if Isabruja gets exposed to the virus. It could severely damage her and Enfreaky's demonspawn.

Chickenpox / male infertility / vaccines / pregnancy

Calling Dr. Carlos

Are unborn babies at risk if the mother is immune from having had chicken pox herself?

This comment has been removed by the author.

No, but we don't know if Isabruja ever had this or not.

If she never had this or wasn't vaxed, the fetus is in the worst danger now. Past the sixth month the danger would be greater for her.

I've been playing catch up and just watched the ep where Isa was crying because Fer wanted a divorce. I have to say those emotional scenes were powerful. Kudos to Mayrin. She's really bringing it and not just in those scenes. Her portrayal has been spot on throughout. Amazing.

Part 1 of 2

Searching general warning: This episode might be dangerous to those who do not like to be hugged.

Marta, I really enjoyed reading your recap, specifically the father-daughter scene. It really captured what they said. There were so many visual subtleties in that scene that one really needs to see it and read your recap to get the full impact of the moment.

Just one small difference on how I understood the following:

“She says girls are harder to have chats with than boys.”

I believe that what she actually said was “Girls are more complicated than boys”. (That too is debatable)

The scene with Fernando and Ana playing “Freeze” with the kids was so heartwarming. I felt like hugging my girl (as in spouse) after that (and I did).

Cruelbella does not disappoint: “… I hope you find someone to love that does not love another man, especially when that man is your brother” (buahahaha)

Although cruel, this is perhaps the best contribution from Cruelbella to this family. Someone had to tell Diego the truth and as it has been said in this recap, the truth is not a bad thing, but it does cause discomfort. Perhaps he’ll meditate on this and choose a better path where he can come to terms with Ana’s feelings towards him and Fernando and not follow a path of blissful and self-inflicted ignorance.

“Go go Godzilla” - tofie

Yes! While I was watching this scene I was thinking that Alicia was having a “Godzilla moment”. I am so glad that I am not alone in the universe thinking that! Now I want to hug Tofie.

Anon at 12:55 (aka Chris in FL) – Yeah, I was thinking that too, but then it hit me (besides the lamp that fell over). This scene just showed how close knit this family is and none of them are afraid to show and demonstrate it. It might have felt awkward, wrong or inappropriate, but for this family, what happened was just a natural extension of their bond. What Fernando said to Alicia was really meant for each and everyone, including Ana. In fact the most affected were the three eldest (Nando, Fanny and Ana). Ana as the “outsider” got a glimpse of what a wonderful person and parent Fernando can be (wait, what did you do with the real Fernando and who is this insightful impostor?) And referring to Ana as an outsider no longer fits because this scene also showed how she has been wonderfully and lovingly assimilated by this family and vice versa. You will be Assimilated, Resistance is Futile (In this family’s case, who would want to resist?)

What I found moving about the scene is that I felt as though Fernando was coming to terms with himself. Somewhere in what he told Alicia was him expressing himself and the new found love that he has discovered for his family and for Ana (even though the idiot is married to Zerobella now).

Implausible? Perhaps yes, but my beanie took care of that nicely. Now I want to hug all of you!

Some wisdom from Master Yo:

Chabe: Ugh, I hate this family, I barf on them all! Look at them acting like nacos!
Yo: It looks like they are having fun. I could really come to love this family.
Chabe: Yolanda! How could you possibly come to love this family?!!
Yo: The real question here, grasshopper, is ‘How could you not?’

Part 2 of 2

Some wisdom from Padawan Jenn:

Bella: Ugh! Tarantula, bruja, vibora! What other names can you call me?!
Jenn: Oh, well, in that I am happy to help you out, now let’s see: Leech, snob, gold-digger, brat, maggot, jerk, parasite, elitist, Johnny (oops, that I actually say that?) scorpion, arrogant, weasel, vulture, cockroach, possum, tick, hyena, dork, bedbug, piranha... should I keep going? Do you want them in alphabetical order? Should I increment the number of 6 legged creatures?

Enrique with Laura:

Laura: Yeah, we’ve met, at the wedding party.

Kickie: Oh yeah (you’re the one I devoured and ogled with my lustful glance)

Kickie: (Now I have to come up with a villainous plan to get you to come with me)

Laura: Invite me to dinner?

Kickie: Glances at the camera with a Grinchish smile- Yes of course (on to villainous plan, phase 2)

After dinner:

Kickie: (What evil and perverted excuse can I come up to get her to my apartment?)

Laura: Great dinner. Let’s go to your apartment.

Kickie: Sure, as you wish (ok that will work too)

At Kickie’s apartment:

Kickie: (Excellent, she’s in my clutches now. Now I just need a way to trick her into my bed. Maybe one of those pills that I have.)

Laura: Got a girlfriend now?

Kickie: No, not at the moment (but I have dozens of conquests that have melted before my majestic alpha male demeanor, buahahaha)

Laura: Look, I’ve read the script. We have seven more scenes together before we end up in the sack. In some scenes they have us saying stupid things.

KIckie: [confused look]What?

Laura: Yeah, for instance in one scene you say that you are an idiot.

Kickie: I do not.

Laura: Do too. In another scene we argue and our dialog devolves into a do-not-do-too diatribe. So I say, let’s skip all of this. [Gets up and throws the script away]

Laura: I’ll be waiting for you in your room. [She goes to where Kickie is, starts caressing him while singing Touch-a touch-a touch me, creature of the night then heads off to the bedroom]

Kickie: What? (This is way too easy; she won’t let my villainous super brain get in gear) [Gets up and follows her]

In the bedroom

Kickie: This does not work like this. I am the master supreme super villain. I elaborate plans so complex and devilishly evil that it makes Wile E coyote look like a kindergartener. I gloat and revel in my greatness and superiority. You are stealing my glory, my thunder, my victory!!! (epic and dramatic music playing the background crescendos) I am like an evil version of Albert Einstein! And yet at times, I am also an idiot.

Laura: [now in bed naked] And there you have it (in a matter-of-fact tone). Stop wasting time and get in here.

Kickie: Never! It will ruin my reputation as a conniving super villain; it will destroy my integrity as a sex starved pervert. Nothing can make me jump in that bed with you unless it is on my own terms.

Laura: Would you rather that the novella cut to a scene with Johnny?

Kickie’s face expresses shock and without hesitation he jumps into the bed. Fade to black.
