La Gata #69 12/5/14 La Repetición

Please pardon me while I blatantly steal a page from 5ft's book of creative quips...

I hereby call the 69th meeting of the Gataholics, Order of the Permanently Slipped Beanie, to order.

Announcements:
We are serving a variety of Black Cat Cocktails tonight. You may choose a classic or retro version. Start drinking early and don't worry. The bartender is here for the duration.

Now let us recite our nightly affirmations:
We acknowledge that by watching this show, we are only enabling Ms. Latoodle-oo. We affirm that by our participation we harm ourselves and others by making her think she is creating a good product. We affirm that Maite is a raven-haired goddesses and that it is not her fault she is in this dreck. We affirm that we will watch this crap until the bitter end, but we will come out the better for it. We affirm that by sharing our heartbreak and frustration, we will be stronger in our conviction to never partake of a Latoodle-oo production again.

The floor is now open (Please note: I am all over the place tonight. You know me. I don't take notes and ICRS.*)

Run, Fela! Run!
Fela makes a run for it and manages to escape. Two things work in her favor: Diogenes is really slow and taxis in Mexico frequently look for fares in the middle of nowhere.

(Augie is furious, but his flailing cane only makes me laugh.)

Unfortunately, it was all for naught. Fela manages to get the taxi driver to Fer's, but no one is home. Fela is left to yell at the gate. Ok. Esme was home and hears the cries...but her wheelchair couldn't make it over some yard ditch and she fell without actually seeing Fela. The taxi driver scrams thinking he might end up involved in the kidnapping investigation. When Meche finally makes it outside, Fela has been found by Augie and is kidnapped AGAIN. Augie's car and Fer's car pass like two ships in the night while I scream at the TV.

Oh, and just to really piss me off everyone assumes that Esme only imagined it was Fela.

You gotta belive me!
Can I just say that Fer is not desperate enough for me? Fela is kidnapped, but he has time to meet with Pablo to hear his side of the story. At least I got to see Damian. I like him. Pablo says it doesn't really matter if Damian and Fer believe him...it only matters if Esme believes him.

Ayer no, pero hoy sí
Which apparently she does. Today Esme DOES want to have the surgery and DOES love Pablo.

Business Lunch
Mr. Bisquick likes what Pablo is proposing. Since I'm gripey, I just want to note that I'm tired of Pablo's hoodies and sneaks. It's time to dress like a man...like MARIANO. Anyhoo. After Bisquick leaves Pablo and Gisela snipe at each other. Pablo is ready to hit the road and Gisela wants him to stay. She insults the Gata. Ugh. I didn't take notes, but I seem to recall he has some line about saying anything she wanted about him, but respect Esme. He ends up leaving and she self-medicates.

A visit from Grandma
Or "Haven't we seen this before and didn't it almost kill Leti?"
Low comes to visit the babies. Her cooing is frankly traumatizing. Those baby actors are good. They didn't even cry.

Fer comes down and tries to throw Low out on her keester. Esme is tired of all the hate!!! Esme orders Fer to apologize or she's leaving the house FOREVER!!

Fer apologizes and tells Low she is welcome at the house. I guess I should be glad. The babies won't be back in the dump anytime soon, but it chapped me to watch Low gloat to Augie when she got home.

Good News
Dr. Cisneros emails Pablo and Fer to say he will be coming in to town to perform the surgery. Heaven forbid he actually email THE PATIENT.

Pablo asks Esme to marry him. Haven't we already seen this? Holy crap...didn't I just recap that on TUESDAY?

The hill where the thrill is gone
Ok, at least for Viwerville it is. The best part of this scene was the quick glimpse of Principe climbing on the wheel chair. Otherwise there was little plot movement. Esme and Pablo relived happy memories and did a lot of smooching. Kudos to Pablo. He did kind of admit he was a dumbass for believing his family when they said Esme cheated on him and the babies weren't his. Then he says that the wedding day is so close and he's sure NOTHING WILL IMPEDE ITS HAPPENING....

...Which is about when Gisela skanks and skulks** around the corner. She thought bubbles about when Pablo said "with Esme todo sin Esme nada". Well now he will be left with NOTHING and he's the one that made that choice!

*ICRS=I can't remember shit

**holy crap! I went to double check the definition (just to make sure I was using it correctly) and discovered a "skulk" was also a collective noun that means a group of foxes.

I'll be back tomorrow with more details. THere were a couple of Low/Auge conversations I want to get down.

The flashbacks were sweet, I loved everyone of them.

J in Oregon---Yes I got it wrong. I did mean fury yesterday. I was trying to rush as my wife was waiting for me to finish, we had some shopping to do. I probably would have caught the wrong spelling if I wasn't trying to rush. However I have never claimed to be the sharpest knife in the drawer. You guys often put me to shame, I am in awe of many of you.

Madelaine---I am so sorry to read the bad news about Madelaine. I had very recently sent her another
get well card. I was expecting her back on the Caray blog soon. Although we had never met, I felt like I almost knew her. Madelaine was so kind and always giving. When I had a question Madelaine often was the first one to answer. I really liked Madelaine, she was great. The gringo will always remember her here on the Caray novela blog. Rest in peace Madelaine.
the gringo

Gracias, Sara! My new DVR completely missed this one. Someone's coming in to fix it tomorrow, or try anyway. Mr. 5ft has been left with instructions to make it very clear how very much his wife NEEDS HER SHOWS! I'll be out singing the second of four Holiday Pops concerts.

I got the email about Madelaine in the middle of tonight's concert, so she was in my thoughts for the second half. She touched a lot of lives. That's the nature of this little community we've built.

Sara, thanks for this fiery synopsis. You rocked.

I had a revelation last night when Pablo whistled at Esme in the nursery!

This is actually a Mexican remake of M*A*S*H, and Pablo is Hawkeye Pierce!

I haven't quite figured out whether Esme is Lt. Dish, or if Gisela is Hot Lips, but I'm working on this. Mariano must be Radar O'Reilly.

David

Dog gone it, I missed this for 3 nights in a row and damn it, lost, so cannot contribute much in the way of buffoonery.

Thankfully, I have gone back and savored every word of the caps and comments and thoroughly wet my self, pleasurably.

Awefrikensome Sara.

Enjoyed the opening of the meeting and the affirmation.

Augie and his flailing cane--LOL.

When Lowrenza was interacting with the babies, I thought Pablito was looking at her with suspicion and distrust.

I've never understood why Damian wasn't a romantic match for Gata.

Of all the rotten luck my DVR failed to tape for the second time this week. I'll have to wait on the recap in order to get something to comment on.

Thanks Sara, the recap was there but I hadn't refreshed my browser.
With so many episodes to go The breaking up and making up between Pab and Esme are boring because they happen too often and are too close together.

Night before last when I saw Fela running I knew she was going to get caught so I couldn't bring myself to get excited about her escape.

Esme is doing the best she can with the information she has. I can't blame her for thinking Lorenza is sincere. I'll really be upset if a part of Low's plan has to do with harming those darling babies.

In partial defense of Ms. Latoodle-oo, La Gata follows in the noble tradition of Thalia's 3 Marias (Maria Mercedes, Maria la del Barrio, Marimar) which, I believe, followed a long tradition of similar novelas and which have been remade in multiple versions in multiple countries.

Although one of the direct predecessors to La Gata is suppoosed to have been Rosa Salvaje, if I remember Veronica Castro's performance correctly, she was nowhere near as "savage" as La Gata or the 3 Marias.

gringo-The flashbacks were very sweet. I like when Esme and Pablo are being nice to each other.

Kat-sorry about your new DVR woes. I completely understand!!! I went through the same trouble when I switched cable companies. I ended up going through 3 DVRs before they figured out it was a wiring issue.

tofie-I'm glad you enjoyed it! I wish I had some of your humor, though.

La Paloma-I am torn between Damian and Mariano. I tend to lean toward Damian because I'm pretty sure tofie and J in Oregon could kick my ass in a fight and they are claiming Mariano for themselves. He also seems to just want to protect Esme, but he never seems overpowered by the eau de protagonista like almost every other male in this show.

Anon2:09-I also worry about the babies' safety. I do not trust Low and I never will.

Anon2:44-I agree. I'm watching Mari Mar on hulu+ and I've seen the Maria Mercedes DVD (I plan to watch it on hulu+ as well.) Both shows are similar in that I often find myself going, wait...what? There seems to be a lot of talking in circles no REAL plot and lots of characters running around in those as well. And like I said in the affirmations, these shows get great ratings so of course more will get made.

I consider myself an TN and Caray Newb since I've only been around since 2010 and STuD, but there are only TNs that I've watched that I want to watch EVERY scene: Cuna de Lobos (which I'm watching on TLnovelas now) and Senora Acero. Other TNs I've watched start out that way and then quickly turn into shows where I FF a lot or lose interest in entirely. If it's a show I recap I watch it in real time and sometimes it's just background noise.

So I have a personal scale of quality:

Every episode and scene a must see.

Good, but lots to fast forward.

Fair and nice background noise.

Meh. I've got others I'm watching so I can let this one go.

I felt like this needed a separate comment.

I was heartbroken to hear of Madelaine's passing. She was always very kind to me and so helpful to recappers. Especially new ones.

Sara, I was shocked for a minute when I read the last entry on your TN-quality scale: "Meh...I can let this one go". I didn't realize it was part of your quality scale, and I thought NOOOOOOO don't leave us Sara!!! So. Glad you are still here.

And I'm sorry if Tofie and I are scaring off any other potential love interests for Mariano with our playful wrangling. Of course there is enough Mariano to go around. Probably.

J in Oregon

Thank you for the great recap!!

Fela should have easily been able to fight Augie off. He can barely walk. For Fela to get all the way to the gate, screaming for that long and still captured...I could only shake my head in disgust. And why was Esmes recount dismissed? Awful writers.

Thanks, Sara. My favorite ..."The hill where the thrill is gone." Ha.

ok, I went online and watched and oh god, what crapola.

Fela is missing for days and nobody gives a poot.

If a partially lame old man can nab a Fela, in broad daylight, and she not put up any more a fight, she deserves to be his sex slave.

Fernando needs to die so somebody can else can call the shots.

I swear, Esmeralda outta thank her lucky stars she got a rich daddy to take care of her, those kids and that idiot boyfriend of hers, because she too, is a halfwit. Nope, quarterwit.

J in Oregon-You are so sweet. I don't plan on going anywhere. I'm stubborn that way. ;-)

Carvivlie-The whole recapture of Fela infuriated me. I get that maybe no one heard her or Esme yelling, but Fela was RINGING THE BELL too!!!! And yes, she should have started fighting like a wild woman! Gawd my blood pressure is going up again just thinking about it.

Susanlynn-Glad you liked the line. HOnestly I think I've used something like it before. NOrmally I would be embarrassed by the lack of originality, but I think it works for this show.

tofie-poot is the funniest word ever. Do you ever think about PSMA? I miss that show. I can't believe La Gata got better ratings than it did. I say Esme in an eightwit.

I may or may not be back with more details. It's a slim chance. There's football happening today.

Of course I think of PSMA. Every time I see Meatball and his wife or whenever someone mentions on this or another blog a bad guy, Javier/Fernando pops in my head. It's clear, for these TN's, you got to have a beefcake and a beauty queen and it matters not the story, for good ratings.

For me, PSMA creeped me out after Aranza gave her virginity to Javier and the dumb ass Esteban was begging her back at the end. The galan, Art, was such a penisheaded wimp, I didn't want him with Isabel and the leg humper Bruno and Gaby, yuck.

This is so frustrating! The box got replaced yesterday, but the new box isn't working either. I might be able to watch the episode on Uvideos, but I have to have the time to do it. Right now, I'm about to head out for concert #4 for this weekend.

I agree that there is very much a formula to these shows, but it seems like what's used to fill in the story keeps getting weaker and weaker. As if we're playing a game of telephone and getting towards the end of the line. They're copies of copies and each one is a little more degraded than the last.

Agree this one has sunk to new lows. I remember in 5th grade, I had a bf (still remember his name, Denis) during school hours, and we broke up and got back together 5 or 6 times daily. Usually the break up was precipitated by some slight, misunderstand or jealously and during a break up other boys in the class would ask me to go with them believing me available. Well I was, till break or lunch period and Denis would ask me to go with him again, we'd hold hands, steal a little peck, the whole class abuzz and the stars back in alignment.

In case you are wondering, puberty was not kind to Denis.

OH Kat!! Believe me I *know* how frustrating cable issues are!!! I hope you get everything fixed quickly. I also hope your concerts are going well. This is your busy season, isn't it?

I'm fine with formula. I just want to be entertained...even if things get crazy. But I don't feel like that's the case here.

tofie-I totally agree about the Aranza/Javier/Estebonbon triangle. That was just gross. Arturo was a terrible galan. Like Kat has mentioned, the producers/writers these days seem to have forgotten what "galan" means.

Aw! Poor Denis! Were you a heartbreaker, tofie?

Not intentionally but some hearts were broke.

Oh Tofie, you made the boys cry.
the gringo

I FINALLY got a chance to watch the episode. What a piece of work, and I don't mean that in a good way!

Did Silencioso really play the "Hey, Pabs, I understand, we're men, we're weak sometimes" card?

I'm so pissed at them for not believing in Esme. And for the general lack of observational skills and curiosity. "Oh, look, there's a car parked across the street...who's that in the back seat?"

Sara, your opening affirmation is just too funny.

I too like that Damian is immune to Esme's eau de protagonista. I like loca Gisela too cause her performance is straight out of opera. I've given up on Carlos and Virginia's story stepping up.

In most cases, I don't take La Gata seriously but seeing Fela locked up is disturbing. But maybe Fela will notice the wide space between the slats of the little hut's window. The space seems big enough for her to squeeze through and make another run.

Niecie, I was thinking that about the window, as well! And they're not exactly watching her around the clock. Maybe we'll get lucky and she'll think of it.

(Why is it asking me to prove I'm not a robot when I'm signed in?)

(It's asking me to prove I'm human too.)

I've gotten sooo distracted by those window bars. I also think she should be able to escape. maybe there are little bits of glass we aren't seeing. That's what I tell myself.

Niecie- I would be happier with this thing if we did get more Virginia and Carlos.

Bit off topic, but Televisa's "Gracias" promo for 2014 is out.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnGB48b6O2I

Features a bunch of actors from their novelas (a number of which haven't aired in US yet) dancing and lip-synching to "La vida es mejor cantando."

From La Gata get to see Daniel Arenas, Maite Perroni, Erika Buenfil dancing and clowning; also some inserts of Laura Zapata.

They had a bunch of actors stay in character. Love the in-character antagonist bitchface of Azela Robinson from Yo no creo en los hombres and the villainous conspiring in midst of the fun by Claudia Ramirez and Luis Gatica from El color de la pasion.

Thanks, RG. I'm lukewarm on this year's holiday video. I like the ones in years past where they have at least acknowledged the actors that have passed away. Does that make me morbid?

(I'm tired of proving I'm not a robot.)

Here's the one for Telemundo :http://masquetelenovelas.blogspot.com/2014/12/asi-es-la-campana-de-navidad-ano-2014.html?m=1

I'm a sucker for these kinds of holiday "promos" .

http://masquetelenovelas.blogspot.com/2014/12/asi-es-la-campana-de-navidad-ano-2014.html?m=1

Probably a better link.

(I'm going to start cussing blogger.)

Late to the party, Sara, but I have got to say I LOVE this recap. You get 'em, girl! Love the affirmation at the beginning and yes, I pledge and suffer along with all o' y'all! No more will I participate in enabling this pitiful, talent-impaired, audience-dissing "artist", LaToodle-oo!! There should be a bold always-on-top banner on Caray when she's crapping out another of her "productions."

WHY DIDN'T THE TAXI DRIVER TAKE FELA TO THE POLICE STATION!!!??? Ok, Fela is too upset to think but wouldn't the police be interested in this kidnapping and catching the perp!! Crikey!!

High ratings: is it a train wreck vibe driving this?

Thank you Sara, loved it!

Thanks, Lila! Last night's episode was even more of a confirmation of how low this ship has sunk. Can't wait to read Eli's snarky take on it.

Full disclosure: I only saw the last 5 minutes, but that was enough.

Oh no! That's true! Bad as it is it could actually get worse!

You know, the silver lining in this? As the holidays approach and our time becomes more precious, we don't have to spend a lot of time on this mess. AND, I can put more time into QA!

:D Lila

Heeey!!!!
I'm showing Cuidado con el angel to my classes and I just saw a flashback. The little actress who played young Marichuy is the SAME actress playing young Esme. So this girl has gotten to be Maite's younger self twice!

You're a cool teacher! How much of it do they watch?
