La Gata #72 - Wed 12/10 - La Cancelación

Gisela is interrupted in her murder attempt by Jarocha.  I don't even listen to the insults they're tossing at each other.  Watching Jarocha throw her out was fun, though.  Why is Esme wearing makeup?

Fernando hears Gisela fussing about his "people" and warns her not to mess with any of his team.

Jarocha thinks it was to be expected that Mercedes was asleep--she's been working around the clock taking care of Esme and the babies.  Jarocha is going to tell the hospital staff not to let Gisela in anymore.  Good luck with that.  Jarocha's not looking forward to telling Esme she didn't have her operation when she wakes up.  Esme repeats Pablo's name like a mantra.

The man-child himself is busy getting a Venti mocha latte with three extra shots and a pump of hazelnut.    He abandons his caffeine to Jarocha and goes in to see Esme, sing a little of Las Mañanitas to her, and then tell her she didn't have the operation.  She remembers the snake.  She's anxious to get the operation on the books already.  Pablo says it's been suspended indefinitely.

Fancy Spanish Doctor explains to Pablo and MexiDoc that if Esme doesn't have the operation, she'll never walk again.  Pablo reacts as if this is a complete surprise to him.

Doc Hottie thinks anything is possible if you put your heart into it.  So if she doesn't want the operation she can walk with nothing but force of will.

So now she and Pablo get into an argument about it.  Esme thinks since Doc Hottie has a disability that gives him special powers to know that she can walk again.  So her mind is made up and she's not having the operation.

Doc Hottie and Virginia are excited to have Esme come hang out with him.  Pablo shows up to confront Doc Hottie, who denies that he told Esme what to do, just gave her advice.

Fernando can't talk her into having the operation either.  Basically, Esme is taking the snake as some kind of sign that she shouldn't have the operation.  I'm getting so sick of typing "the operation"  I swear if it comes up again, I'm calling it Brussel Sprouts or something.  Esme has also given up on having anything positive happen in life.  Because clearly, fate sucks.

Pablo nearly insults Doc Hottie before Virginia calls him off and reminds him that Doc Hottie is a doctor.  Doc Hottie isn't going to stop being buds with Esme.

Esme's 2 original doctors come in to talk to her about Brussels Sprouts and how if she doesn't want to eat them, she won't be able to walk again. But they respect her decision not to eat Brussels Sprouts…as long as they know she's firm in her decision.  Clearly, though, these two are solidly Team Brussels Sprouts.

Pablo is jealous.  Virginia can tell.  Don't laugh her off, dude.  We all know she's smarter than you, Esme, and all of Team Silencioso combined.

Doc Hottie has a hot friend…woo hoo!  Hot Friend wants to make sure Doc Hottie isn't developing a thing for Esme.  Wait 'til he meets her.  Hot Friend advises Doc Hottie to remember ethics and not get professionally involved with Esme if there are feelings involved on either side.

Esme hangs out at Club Differently Abled.  Virginia massages her legs while Esme complains that Pablo doesn't believe in her ability to walk again without Brussels Sprouts.  Virginia explains that Pablo is jealous.

Pablo meets with Gisela to hand over some work.  He is dead to me.  He doesn't even want to hear Gisela say Esme's name in the name of asking about the Brussels Sprouts.  I don't even want to hear Gisela breathing.

The cops pressure one of the Barrio Gang's victims to remember something, anything, about the gang.  Too bad they don't have records yet, so they're not in the alarmingly skinny book of mug shots.  Victim is tired of showing up again and again and again to keep telling them he doesn't remember anything.  Then he sees a Wanted poster of Ines, looking all hot and criminal, and tells the cops she was one of the robbers!

Augie insists on defending himself in court.  The judge, for now, is setting a new date for the hearing and is ignoring Augie's presentation of the Blank Paper of Evil.  Apparently that was the entire point of this meeting--to set the hearing date and let people make motions.

Hot Friend is actually Hot Physical Therapist.  Esme thinks if she powers through her treatment she'll get better faster.  Hot Physical Therapist tells her it doesn't work that way.  She has to have patience and her recovery is going to be as slow as the accident was damaging to her body.  She promises to be patient.  He works on some range of motion in her legs.

Esme sits on a ledge in the pool massaging her leg with a roller and chatting with Doc Hottie who is thinking about Hot Physical Therapist's warning not to mix business and pleasure.

Damian follows Augie home to try to talk to him.  Augie spews classist BS, but Damian is rubber and Augie is glue and they BOTH know it, despite Augie's repeated denials.  Damian warns him not to present the Blank Paper of Evil or Damian will make him pay.  So, I guess what Augie was complaining about earlier was that he WANTED to present the Blank Paper of Evil already, not that he'd already done it and the judge didn't feel like considering it yet.

Augie gets home and takes his anger out on Lorenza.  She wants the Blank Paper of Evil back and Augie has a laughing fit.

Barrio Gang plays pool.  Ines thinks they're wasting time and should be pulling another job.  But the two losers who didn't get accepted into the "program" don't want to take orders from a chick…well, a chick with more brains than they've got…well, ok then, Ines can be in charge.

More Augie ranting.  Lorenza tells him if he wants her as an enemy, she'll fight back.  She'll confess to stealing the paper.  She doesn't care if she goes to jail.  She's willing to do this for her kids (though I'm not sure if she means "hijos" the boys or all of them).

Ominous knocking on Rita's door.  It's the cops looking for Ines.

She and her new gang finish their planning, but see the cops and Ines assumes Garabato and Tony turned them in.

Lorenza has had enough of not being treated like Augie's wife and will throw Augie under the bus if she has to.  My money's on Lorenza.  Augie ridiculously tries to physically beat on her (in his condition?) and gets busted by Mariano.  Mariano is furious and calls Augie "the worst."  Screwed that one up good, didn't you, Augie?  Lorenza is horrified to hear Mariano talking like this and asks him not to talk to his father like that.  She says their problems are "theirs" and he has to respect his father.  Mariano wants to take her out of there and Augie can't wait to be left alone.  Lorenza insists she HAS to stay with Augie until the judge hands down his decision.  Lorenza = jailer!

Esme doesn't want to talk to Pablo about her day at Club Differently Abled.  Pablo, wearing some bizarre hybrid of a hoodie and a blazer, talks sweet to Esme and agrees that if she doesn't want to eat the damn Brussels Sprouts, she doesn't have to, and he's sure she'll walk again.  Smoochies.

The cops threaten Rita with jail if she covers for Ines.  When Centavito bursts in, the cops assume he's one of Ines' accomplices, but Rita says he's not.

Ines and her new gang go confront Garabato and Tony, who insist they didn't rat them out.  Garabato says if they had gone to they cops, they would have gotten busted too.  He won't be selling any of them out--he's willing to do the time for his crimes.

Pabsme settle the babies down to sleep.  I don't think I like the hoodie/blazer.  Esme chides him for being jealous.  Smoochies.

Mariano and Pablo confab in the living room at Silencioso's.  Mariano tells Pablo what he saw at the 'rents' place.  And that Lorenza refuses to leave.

Augie heads to Fela's shack.  She looks like he grosses her out and asks him who he is.  She doesn't know any "Agustin," but accepts his explanation that they're married and love each other.  The roll of toilet paper hanging from the ceiling highlights the BS.

Gisela sees Pablo at the door to his parents' apartment.  He doesn't like that she's friends with them.  Or that she insists on flirting with him.  She lets slip how she and his dad dislike the same people.  Because he's Pablo, this doesn't register with him.

Fela felt grossed out kissing Augie…"Sorry to tell you, but that's what I felt."  Augie is devastated.  Too damn bad.  "If we love each other so much and we're married, why do you have me locked up here?"  Yeah, Augie…answer that one!  She really wants to know because she can't remember anything.  Augie claims she's hiding out there because people are trying to kidnap her and they decided she'd be safe there.  Augie tells her she'll get her memory back little by little, but right now he can't answer all her questions.  Soon, he'll take her to the house, but she needs to keep loving him.  When he leaves, Fela says she thinks he's lying and that she's already been kidnapped.  Yes, Fela dear, the bad man kidnapped you.  And the rest of your people are preoccupied with everything but you, the jerks!

Ines comes to Rita's shack to pack and go into hiding.  She won't tell Rita which of her escapades has the cops looking for her.  Even Chácharas can't get her to 'fess up.  She bids a (fake?) tearful goodbye to Rita, who is genuinely aggrieved, and tells Chácharas to look after Rita.  Once again, Rita says she's feeling the pain of not raising Ines right.

Lorenza and Monica have come back from visiting a PI to find out who Augie's little chippie on the side is.  Monica's paying for it.  That makes these two smarter than Team Silencioso, who should have put a tail on Augie the minute Fela disappeared.

Tomorrow: Augie rolls; Lorenza threatens.

Full disclosure, I am totally a frou-frou coffee drinker.

Oh yeah, also...

FREE FELA!

For the second time this week I decided to watch just the end of the episode and just read the recap. I can bet this was better. It was actually interesting. Ugh recap made it seem like stuff was actually going on!

Loved your description of the blazoodie (blazer+hoodie).

Frou Frou is the bomb.

This is sooooo funny Kat.

"fate sucks"

"Brussel Sprouts"

"Wanted poster of Ines, looking all hot and criminal"

"Damian is rubber and Augie is glue and they BOTH know it"

How did my tablet change "the recap" to "ugh recap"?

Thank you Diva! Divine, as usual. Girl, you crazy! Crackin' me up over here!

Pabsme

Brussels Sprouts

Blank Paper of Evil

She lets slip how she and his dad dislike the same people. Because he's Pablo, this doesn't register with him.

The snake in the hospital plot; the instantly enamored blind Dr. who just as instantly inspires Esme to skip the operation; the total indifference to Blanca's whereabouts; the stupidity of the Blank Paper of Evil being a legal threat. . .hell, the whole damn thing is just boodie stupid!

Thanks for taking the stink out of this flatulence Diva!

Thanks, Diva Kat, for giving this episode some great pimp slaps and kicks in the shin. Your version was mo' better than the schlock we saw.

I like Fela telling Augie he grosses her out. A message he needed to hear.

Pablo's entire wardrobe for this show is lacking both style and substance.

Gisela is that desperate to kill Esme ?

The female version of Harlan Rook

La Paloma- I couldn't agree more about Pablo's wardrobe. I was willing to to cut some slack at the beginning, but he's been to the states and now has this degree and is an ar-teest. He needs to get with the program and bring on the style. Mariano could help him with that.

I LOVED Fela telling Augie he grossed her out. Take that a-hole.

5ft, you are the BEST!!! Like Sara, I either watch just the end or the beginning. The recaps are SO much more entertaining!!

I guess Daniel Arenas just likes playing dopes. It's a toss up as to which was worse, CI or this one.

Fatima

Ay least he was a lovable dope in Amorcito Corazón

Confession - I'm mainly sticking with this because I just want to see the wedding dress at the Fin. The dress at least better be worth it.

At not Ay.

I meant to say in terms of Arenas playing a dopey guy...was not comparing the two novelas.

Fatima

Sara...oh yes...I love seeing the dresses at the end!

Agree, he was a nice dopey guy,but would be nice to see him get a brain. I think a trip to the Wizard is in order. :)

Fatima

I completely agree with you, Fatima. One of the reasons I got suckered in CI and this crap was the hope of seeing the Amorcito Daniel.

I was robbed I'm tellin' ya!

At first I felt robbed, believing I'd get a heavy dose of pretty hair Danny each evening, and angry as hell. Now I know it was I that self duped. A pretty face & nice hair does not an actor make. The guy is horrible. The show is horrible. The writing is horrible. I'm horrible for paying attention.

Sara...we was robbed!!!

Fatima

"self-duped"

So funny!

I hate to say it, but I'm not sure I will ever watch Dan again. Maybe with a new producer.

Fatima - We was!!

Diva, I may never eat Brussels sprouts again...Thanks for the rollicking recap, I loved-loved-loved it!

Okay so I'm home this morning with furnace repair and enjoying seeing the comments as they come in. One thing that annoyed me last night was Pablo telling off Esme's new friend, Dr Hottie. Esme is able to make her own decisions, medical and otherwise. Back off, Pablo! You're not her legal spouse yet and you're already trying to run things.

Fela, trust your instincts: kissing Augie IS disgusting!

Mariano, next time you hand out university scholarships, better make sure the recipients can read and write first.

I'm glad at least that Lo admitted to stealing the blank documento of evil.

El Silencioso, get a new nickname! It's time to break the silence dude!

J in Oregon

Oh, Pablo believes since he created Esmeralda he owns her and he gives the stink eye to every dude that comes sniffing around. She doesn't see it but this guy will want her barefoot and pregnant for ever. He's an insecure, immature boy with a temper in an adults body. Disaster.

I won't watch Danny again

Diva---Superwoman. Work, Christmas Concerts and still a super recap. WOW!

Speaking of Virginia---Don't laugh her off dude. We all know she's smarter than you, Esme and all of team Silencioso combined.

Club Differently Abled

Diva---You said that your money is on Lorenza. Mine too.

Blank paper of evil.

I agree that Ines looks both "hot"
and "criminal" at the same time. She pulls off the duel look beautifully.

Some people are flustrated with the poor writing here, me too. No one is out searching for Fela? How can that be? Come on writers,
get it together.

Answer to why is Esme wearing makeup in the hospital?---Because she's the raven haired goddess, that's why, plain and simple.

Ok the writing needs improvement but Maite doesn't---an hour well spent I'd say. An hour with Maite beats poor writing every time.

Yes Rita, you raised Rita wrong---
she's goin' down.
the gringo

Oh gringo, if you get an hour with the Raven Haired Goddess, it seems only fair that we should also get an hour staring into the limpid eyes of Mariano...*sigh*.

Mariano and Esme would really be much better suited. Pablo still looks like an overgrown kid with a bad case of "I want it my waaaaay!"

J in O

The recap was gold, just gold! Do you guys think we could file a class action lawsuit against Televisa for emotional distress?

And do any of you know how one could get a job with Televisa? I am convinced that I could work for them and turn out better material than this!

Gracias, Sara, tofie, Lila, La Paloma, Steve Boudreaux, Fatima, J in OR, gringo, and Eli! And given time constraints today, an early "Gracias" to future commenters. 2 concerts to go! And now I will ramble....

I can handle black coffee when it's good coffee, but so much coffee in this world is just not good...and that's where sugar, syrups, non-dairy milk, and whipped cream come in to save the day!

The roll of toilet paper hanging from the ceiling of Fela's shack is the ultimate symbol of this show's quality. And I hate myself for enabling Ms. Latoodle by continuing to watch, but...I have this pathological need to see it through to the end. Like Sara said, there had better be a really fan-frickin-tabulous dress waiting at the end of all this.

Fatima, I would have thought Fernando was the Wizard in this scenario, but so far all he's giving out is money and that sure doesn't seem to be fixing anything! Pablo is our scarecrow, for sure.

gringo, she is indeed a goddess, and I think that's part of why the makeup bugs me.

I think Maite has some skin problems, which I never would have noticed if not for HD and the extreme closeups in TdA. I hate seeing all the makeup so caked-on! I'm sure her actual skin, blemishes or not, would look way better than the copious layers of makeup that really aren't hiding anything and are just screaming "Look at me!" Just one more area where I'm convinced they could do better, but they're not bothering.

The Televisa monkeys could do better! Bring them out of retirement (or banishment)!

It's funny, judging from when they were little, I would have expected playful Mariano to grow up to be the payaso and Pablo the suited-up intelligent galan. Que decepcion!

Young Mariano was definitely giving us the future mujeriego vibe. It took a while, but I think at this point, I'm convinced of his "good"-ness. He's not a saint, just a decent, complicated guy. I can appreciate that.

Mariano got a clue. He works things out within himself and struggles. If he acts on impulse he finds out why, speaks the truth, makes amends, makes an adjustment and commitment not to re-offend. I believe him.

Pablo is a petulant child and only knows he has crossed any line when someone tells him.

Goodness, can't they turn Pablo into a bad guy and let us have an Esme and Mariano romance?

Ooh, Pablo as a bad guy...if I keeps it in the "cold, calculating" range and doesn't go all Augie on us, I might be able to buy that. Daniel's quiet anger is much more believable to me than when he starts ranting.

You are welcome, Diva. I'm gonna hang: youze guys recaps and comments main reason why. This show is just astounding. Just absolutely astounding. They seriously should have billed it as a paradox, added a laugh track and over the top sound effects. At least then we wouldn't hold it in disdain and be so stressed!

Jeezo pete! Never again with LaToodle-oo.

make that parody. . .though maybe paradox applies too.

;p

Thanks, Diva KAt.

Mariano does not do anything for me , but I would not mind seeing Esme end up with Dr. Hot.

This show just keeps swirling round and round. Que lastima. Couldn't Tekevisa pay for the "writers" to take some writing classes at a local community college to get some basic plot writing skills ?

Question..Why does dirty, rotten Rita get a novio. ?

Gracias, Susanlynn. For the life of me, I can't figure out if the writers are really THAT bad, or if this is a "bad boss" problem. I've had bosses like that who didn't care to have me working up to my fabulously high standards and basically refused to raise the bar, refused to let anyone try to make things better, because they were SO set on keeping the status quo. It could go either way and I'd believe it.

We have the Hot Doctor and the Hot Physical Therapist now and it is a truth universally acknowledged that a hot telenovela character must be in want of a partner! I wonder what the match-ups will be.

Lila, it's a parody and a paradox wrapped in an enigma with a side of QTH sauce!

Why does Rita get a novio?

That is definitely one of the great unanswerable mysteries.

Virginia is smart, but she needs to get away from her psycho mother!

Steve, until Fernando mentioned to Lo the other day that his house is the house of her grandkids, daughter-in-law, and daughter, I really had no clue where Virginia was living! We never see her at the house.

Thanks for the recap!

I missed most of the episode but looks like another one of Esme making poor choices. Hottie Doc advising her not to get the op seems like a ploy to keep her close.

Thanks 5ft. I haven't watched the novela in a week but I am keeping up with the recaps. From the comments, sounds like watching
would be a grand waste of time. I say it's time we voiced our feelings on Media like Facebook or twitter. Nothing will change unless she gets receives a message of how we feel about her. By "hanging in there" the show is getting a "false" good rating based on the number of viewers. As a result she'll come out with more of the same $hit. Actions speaks louder than words. Any thoughts on what we can do to send her our imput?

Gracias, Carvivlie! I agree Hot Doc is letting his feelings get in the way. I'm glad he has Hot Physical Therapist to call him on it.

Anon at 4:54 I don't know how ratings work, so if someone can explain that, it might help provide some direction. They can't possibly be monitoring every last one of us, can they? Do they count recording it on DVR and watching later? What about On Demand? Online? The best we could hope for as US viewers is to let the US networks know what we don't want to see in reruns, but it would take an uprising of Mexican viewers to knock Latoodle off her throne entirely.

I don't believe that the "taste" in Mexico is so very different to here, that they're less critical or less intelligent on the whole. I just think that they have fewer options, so she may be keeping her job based on being the only game in town more than anything else. She and Mejia are at the top of the food chain and they don't see any reason to change because they're doing juuuuust fine.

I see it this way;

Top-
Nicandro Diaz
Salvador Mejia
Carla Estrada (Is A la Luz del Angel happening or not???)
Ernesto Alonso RIP
Angelli Nesma
Jose Alberto Castro
Luis de Llano Macedo

Middle-
Juan Osorio
Emilio Larrosa (if his recent works were more like HQEDNS, he wouldn't have trouble)
Nathalie Latrilleux
Lucero Suarez(truly underrated and barely making the center)
Pedro Damian

Bottom-
Carlos Moreno (I detest how his shows are usually overlooked and ignored. I love that Caray Caray! is a big part of his fanbase though. He is a good writer.)
MaPat (her shows have the perfrct balance of beauty and brains. Again, terribly overlooked.)
Roberto Gomez-Fernandez and Giselle Gonzalez (Looney-vision canned the PVAA weekens showing. Terribly overlooked but amazing writers.)
Ignacio Sada Madero (PSMA could have been better)
