La Gata #81 12/23/14 La Rita

Hot damn and pass the okra! I got a halfway entertaining episode. Don't hate fellow recappers.
  • Pabs and Esme are going to marry in a month...'cause they love each other NOT because she needs a babysitter bodyguard.
  • Pablo's bank accounts have all been frozen. He's advised to see a lawyer. He goes to Mariano and he explains that Gisela had some clause in the contract to make sure he would fulfill his end of the contract (Soooo, am I the only one who's wondering if there is some sort of kinky "have sex with Gisela" clause?)
  • Low catches Gisela in her apartment and she gives some angry, impassioned speech about how much the family has tried to support him, but now they are not helping Augie when he falls. She's now his enemy and she's declaring war...to the death!
  • Oy vey. Rita won the lottery. 6 milliones de pesos.
  • Esme has PT. They talk about "the surprise" (seriously, ever since tofie said it all I can think is "kegels.")
  • Carrlos serenades Virginia. Was he off key? Weigh in folks. I'm tone deaf. He has another surprise. He asks Virginia to follow a path, feel with her feet and "read" his message. Quite frankly, I am offended by the dry, brown leaves. Just because she's blind doesn't mean she doesn't deserve rose petals. They would have smelled nice. I'm not even sure about the whole braille message on the ground thing anyway. Can you really "read" with your feet? Oh, the message was "Will you marry me?" Of course Virginia says yes (she couldn't see the brown leaves.)
  • Mariano explains to Casa El Sil that they are in a dire situation. Chácharas arrives to announce the new and (supposedly) improved Rita. She may look different, but her heart is still two sizes too small. She refuses to help Damian.
  • Carrlos want to marry Virginia ASAP. They talk about their love being forever and even though they've never been with anyone else, Virginia knows she's making the best decision of her life.
  • Chácharas tries to convince Rita to help, but she refuses. She's going to use her money to get Ines out of jail...not by hiring a lawyer, but by buying off a guard. Was that a guard?
  • Fela is still in blank stare mode. Esme wishes Fela would come back to them. Jarocha how Fela is doing. Esme tells her that she's sure Fela will get better, but like her legs everyone will have to be patient. Jarocha asks how things are going at the Institute and Esme swears that soon she'll have good news for everyone.
  • Low tells Virginia she can't marry Carrlos. Virginia tells her she's of age and doesn't need her mother's permission. They will get married with or without mom's permission. They leave and Low again says Virginia can't marry Carrlos....OR ANYONE!
  • Gisela comes to see Pablo in Mariano's office. He and Mariano are looking for loopholes in the contract. Gisela tells Pabs all he has to do is leave Esme and he can have his accounts unfrozen. Pablo adamantly refuses and says he'll die poor then.
  • Fer holds vigil next to Damian. He opens his eyes a little, but falls back into unconsciousness. Fer confers with the doctor. Things don't look good.
  • The PI has come to report to Fer and he has eyes for Jarocha!! Aw, they are cute! (pegar chicle=to be attracted to each other. I didn't write exactly what Maite said...I think "pegaste su chicle" You caught his eye/he was into you.)
  • Pablo and Mariano still discuss the Gisela contract and inexplicably Pablo thinks Augie dropping his case against El Sil is going to help him out with this Gisela problem. WTF? Someone explain this to me slowly. I don't get it.
  • Augie works on the laptop and gloats about coming out on top.
  • Esme tells Jarocha she deserves to be happy. Jarocha is worried about her past and Esem thinks a man who truly loves Jarocha will understand. Jarocha doesn't think so.
  • The PI has has found a witness near the warehouse that can ID Augie, and there was also a strange hooded man. El Sil thinks this is just the evidence they need.
  • Diogenes comes to call on Augie and threaten him. Augie asks for more time. Gisela knocks on the door and tells Diogenes she knows he's there because she followed him. She gets his name wrong several times, so when she pays him off and tells him to scram, he tells her he doesn't take orders from a boss that can't even get his name right. He eventually caves and takes the check and leaves.
  • Hot PT wants Esme to tell her family about her amazing progress, but she wants it to be a surprise. He promises not to tell. She hopes she's walking by the time of the wedding.
  • Low tells Pablo that Virginia can't marry Carrlos. Pablo thinks it's her class prejudice talking, but she says it's not. Hasn't she said that he and La Gata...er...Esmeralda can marry? The problem with Virginia is she has a genetic disorder and if she ends up pregnant she could die!!
OH THE F*CKERY

What the hell Low? All you have to do is explain it to Virginia and put her on BC.

Sara, that would be an exercise in common sense which no one in this production seems to have.

I don't know why I keep trying to pull logic into this!

Nice recap of a somewhat interesting episode, Sara.

I think Gisela dipped into some Caray Caray comments. When she came into the office with Pablo and Mariano, she said "It's the dumb brothers! So cute and so dumb."

I'm not suggesting that she and Pablo should hook up, but if they did have a night of stolen passion, it's possible she could be disappointed.

I should have known better than to think Rita would help with Damian's expenses or anything else for Team Gata. Her face still looked rather worn, but she had a really great color job on her hair. Nice soft and subtle gradation, Rita!

I thought Rita cleaned up pretty good!

Loved your comments about Pablo's *ahem* skills, La Paloma. Monica probably dodged a bullet!

And all of a sudden...boom! Stuff happens! Gracias, Sara!

I will opine that Carlos' guitar was WAY out of tune (and seriously, not a single person on set that day stopped him? Or had a tuning device? They make apps for that now, so there's no excuse!) and it was throwing him off, so once he stopped strumming it was MUCH better.

OK, I'll buy that such a disease exists, or at the very least one that used to be life-threatening but isn't as much anymore as long as the woman is aware of it and gets proper care, and that if anyone still dies from it it's because they had no idea they had it. But, no, that doesn't mean she can't get married! For F's sake, Latoodle, marriage doesn't require procreation!

La Paloma, I'm cracking up at your comments. I love it when it seems like the show has been spying! I'm going to guess that Pablo's skills in the bedroom are on par with his art. Especially the psychedelic cat mural.

Rita did clean up good. At today's exchange rates, she won about $67K.

Oops, that's $406K...I have no idea where that other number came from.

Thank you big-time, Sara! I was dodging around trying to make pie filling while watching the episode, and so missed out on a few things. Almost choked on my spoon when I looked up and saw the new, made-over Rita! Didn't help her personality though.

Yes, I thought Carlos' warbling was definitely OFF. Didn't realize it was the guitar. I just kept thinking how clean and nice his face was. Between him and Rita it was clean-faces across the board!

Also: agree the writers should take advantage of Principe's sharp claws and have him launch himself at Gisela. Go Principe!

Maybe Carlos was outta tune but Sara ROCKS.

"She may look different, but her heart is still two sizes too small."

Sappy but sweet, "will you marry me" in braille, using dry leaves. That took some time and the wind could have spelled something completely different. Like....I'm dying to know if you are a natural blond (believe me folks I restrained myself here)

I feel so sorry for Jarocha, Esmeralda finally tried to get her to talk about her tough life but she wouldn't, only a couple tears.

"And all of a sudden...boom! Stuff happens!

It was like a Chanukah miracle!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we will start getting some interesting and coherent episodes now that we only have 40 episodes left.

I'll be back in a bit to read the rest of the comments.

Thanks, Sara. Very nice descriptions of our warped cast of characters and their antics.

Can't wait for Lo's testimony.

I wish they'd be more specific with their made-for-tn diseases. I would like to know the background of Virginia's situation.

I'm wondering if Esme can now take a step or two?

With everyone except Augie hating Gisela, surely she will fall sometime soon.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukkah, season's greetings, happy holidays to all (strike out the inapplicable).

David

Thanks Sara, no hate, I appreciate! Wonderful recap, girl! Did Cha Cha know Rita's position on her newfound wealth? Rita should have kept her arse at home instead of rubbing salt into El Sil and Co.'s wounds. Silly heffa!

Agree with all about this "grave disease" that means Virginia can never marry. Seriously? What a crock!

Thanks, Sara!

Chacharas has this misguided notion that deep down, Rita's just a big 'ol softie. He's too optimistic for his own good. Maybe now he's finally gotten the memo. I don't even think that guy she was bribing to get Ines out is going to come through for her. Just because you have the money to bribe the authorities doesn't mean you know who to bribe!

Rita is likely to get a big ole brick up side her head tonight.

I giggled like a school girl when the idiot realized his back accounts were frozen, then when Gisela basically called the idiot and Mariano dumb and dumber to their face. At least Mariano had the dignity to leave his own office to get him a sammach.

J in Oregon: I love your comments mainly because I can tell how much you love Príncipe!

tofie- your charm is your off-color humor. No need to apologize.

David- I really can't wait for tonight's testimony either!

Lila- I will probably steal Cha Cha since it's faster to type! And totally with you on the wtf diagnosis.

Kat-if anything that flashback scene shows us what a poor judge of character he is. So was the heart attack and her help in clearing up the first round of misunderstandings her punishment and redemption? Cause that sucks and I call foul. She's still needs an anvil IMO. Maybe not a huge one though.

Yah Diva, I'm thinkin' that young turk and his buds are going to rip the old lady off big time. They won't get it all of course but she's likely to be back in the dump with scraggly hair before we can say la cucaracha!

I don't even know how you write a contract like that, that gives you ownership of another person's bank accounts "in case" they try to break the contract. I would find it more plausible if the contract gives her ownership of his accounts without any conditions.

I have negotiated contracts that include in the remedy clause for non performance, financial penlites. Perhaps failure to perform and non payment of those penlites allowed Gisela to petition the court to freeze his accounts.

"failure to perform" *giggle*

oh, I gave a big ole snort when I wrote it

Those last three comments made my day.

Thanks for the info, tofie. I can't remember, has anyone said to Pablo that he's a dumb ass for not reading the contract?

I think Mariano has...maybe. Although, even if he'd actually read it himself, would he have a clue what the implications were?

Good point.

Thank you Sara on this busy Christmas Eve.

How many dozen roses would it take for their pedals to spell out a message? A brail message. Carlos doesn't have that kind of money, hence the fallen leaves.

Wow! what a surprise. Rita is flying high now. I want to know how long her good times will last.

Carlos wants to know if Virginia is really a naturel blonde? Oh Tofie, you're bad.

Have you guys noticed that Principe gets a top billing close up in the new opening intro?

The big trial bombshell. What is Lo up to? Must see tv tonight.

Wouldn't it be something if Augie got plastered from David's contribution just before the trial?
the gringo

As much as I would love to get to recap a drunk Augie in court, that would be too much to hope for. ahhhh, but I can dream :D

Oh gringo you are right about the rose petals but darnit this is Latoodle-oo we're talking about. She doesn't seem to use logic for anything else. Lol

Kat here's hoping that La Noche Buena brings you a good episode.
