La Gata #82 - Wed 12/24- La Finta

Virginia isn't Lo's daughter!  She's the daughter of Lo's favorite sister and made Lo swear she'd care for her like her own daughter.  If Virginia has a daughter, she'll have the same fate as her mother--death.

Virginia is telling Esme that she's "dying" of excitement and wants Esme to be her maid of honor.  Or matron, I guess, depending on the timing.  She's looking forward to having lots and lots of kids with Carlos.

Pablo vows to keep Lorenza's secret, but Lo says she can't tell Virginia either.  He appears to have talked her into telling Virginia herself.  Lorenza thought bubbles that at least if Virginia adopts she won't have a grandchild who is *****.  There are a million ways she could have finished that sentence, and unfortunately, since she wasn't saying it out loud, there is no way to figure out what she said.  Can anyone who saw the Mexican broadcast tell us if it was bleeped there as well?

Damian's doctor calls to tell Fernando that Damian needs a "prosthesis" that's very expensive.  Without it, Damian may not recover his memory.  Esme is eavesdropping and comes in to tell Fernando and Mariano they need to accept the money Pablo offered.  Mariano makes a face, but he won't tell them.

Lorenza thought bubbles about how she can't stop thinking evil thoughts and she's not even sorry.  Nothing would make her happier than to have her family away from those "nacos" and take the babies away from Esme and leave them somewhere far away.  The babies fill her with shame.

I guess Pablo told Esme that he technically has no money and can't get his money back unless he gives her up.  Pablo, rightly, says if he gives in to one of Gisela's nutty demands, she'll just keep making more demands.  Each one nuttier than the last, probably.

Rita is back at her hut and Chácharas hopes she has changed her mind about helping Team Fernando.  Rita would rather waste her money trying to bribe Ines out of jail than just pay the lawyers to get her out legally.  She runs off to a meeting with a guy at a seedy bar.  If he gets Ines out, she'll pay, but the guy wants payment up front.

Filler convo at Esme's bedside.

It's the day of the trial.  Pablo comes by to wish Augie luck, because Augie's going to need it.  And then he tries to talk Augie into settling.  Augie responds predictably.  Gisela shows up to drive Augie to the courthouse.  I hope Pablo turns down her offer of a ride.

Lorenza has coffee with Monica's mom.  She's been faking her affection for the babies and pretending not to hate Team Fernando.  She's also looking forward to screwing Augie over in court.  Not because she's on Fernando's side, but because Augie has it coming.

Team Fernando.  Breakfast.  Filler.

Everyone's at the courthouse, waiting.  Pablo makes a big deal of telling Virginia which side is which.  The two of them go sit on Team Fernando's side.  Mariano says he'll try to go support their dad.  He sits in the back so he doesn't have to sit by Gisela.  This courtroom has some pretty nice chairs.

A guard tells Aguacata to make herself scarce so he can start plotting the breakout with Ines.  I guess he was a guard after all.

Mariano tries one more time to get Augie to allow him to defend him, but Augie refuses.  "Then I hope you've got either God or the Devil on your side!"  The judge shows up to get the party started.

Osorio starts off.  Augie stole Fernando's stuff; Fernando went to jail for too long.  Augie can't resist heckling.  Osorio says Fernando wants all his stuff back and for Augie to pay the legal fees.  The judge says (and don't quote me on this, because I'm not sure I understood correctly) if Augie accepts the charges, then they won't have a civil trial.  If he doesn't accept them, then they'll get the criminal trial started and add the charges to that.  It's up to Augie.  Augie denies all the charges, so he's happy to roll it all into a criminal trial.  Lo walks in, wearing her trademarked Big Badass Beads, and says she wants to testify.  Augie's beady little eyes try to get big, but come on.  Nothing can be bigger than The Beads.

Aguacata tells Ines not to try to escape.  Nobody has ever escaped from this prison.  Ni modo, Rita already has the plan in motion.

Augie tries to talk the judge out of listening to Lorenza.  Mariano stops Pablo from intervening and says he'll talk to her.  Lorenza says there's been enough damage done to Fernando and his family and it's about time Augie left them alone.  I giggle when Osorio stands up in his candy corn tie to say that he has no objection to Lorenza testifying.  "Well, I do!" shouts Augie.  Obviously, dude.  He demands to have her remarks stricken from the record, but his main argument seems to be that she's his wife.  Well, maybe you should have thought of that before you told her you didn't want to be married to her any more, ya think?  Augie just keeps ineffectually screaming at everyone, including the judge that he "demands" it!  Everyone gives him pitying looks.

Rita, sporting a royal blue suit with a little sparkle to it, tells Chácharas that she's going to bust Ines out and the two of them are going to go very far away.  "No one dies of love, so…laters."

The judge finally calls for silence and says they can't continue with this interruption.  He tells them to settle their differences elsewhere.  He'll be making a decision and he'll call them back to let them know what it is.  Well, that was…a great big ball of nothing.

They're smuggling Ines out in the dirty laundry?  With her new pet rat?  A guard "checks" the laundry bin, but as the helpful crooked guard's voiceover explains, they never check very well.  If things get dicey, there's always "Plan B."  Oh, I didn't know the Televisa rats had names.  Well, congratulations on your screen time, Plan B.  You did an excellent job.  I hope to see you again in future productions.  I think you've got a bright future ahead of you.  Plan B distracts the guard and Ines gets dumped out into the van.  Just outside, the van is stopped by some officials who do nothing more than open the back doors and say "there's nothing here."  And THIS is the prison from which Aguacata warned Ines "no one" has ever escaped?

Out in the hallway, everyone mills about.  Gisela tells Augie that Lo's "declaration" screwed him over.  Lo comes up to gloat at him for underestimating her.  "Who laughs last laughs best," says Gisela.  She's already plotting revenge.  Augie looks shocked.

The guards keep searching and pull Ines out of the van.  Rita, watching from a distance, realizes it was a setup to get their hands on her money.  Chácharas pulls her back before she can get her fool self in trouble and then comforts her when she cries about it being unfair.

Ines yells at the crooked guard for scamming her granny.  She cries about how she wants to get out.

Back in the courtroom, the judge wants to hear from Augie.  Augie asks him to disregard his wife's "disturbance."  This gets Lo going again.  The judge tells her to follow the rules or get out--no one asked her to testify.  The judge suspends the proceedings yet again and says they'll take it up again tomorrow.  Augie fusses about how he's been waiting for this day.  "Too bad.  Control your people."  Fernando just looks annoyed.

In Mariano's office, he tells Augie to shut up about dragging Lorenza back "home."  "A wife's duty is to be with her husband!" Augie gripes.  Lo says she always has been, but if he tries to force her, it will go even worse for him.  "You wanted me for an enemy.  Deal with the consequences."

Rita thinks she should have known the guy would double-cross her.  Chácharas says it's the money.  She got blinded by the money and forgot everything she learned from being a poor.  She lost her instincts.  But Chácharas didn't, and that's why he followed her.  Rita doesn't know what to do now.  "I have to get her out."  Chácharas suggests using the rest of her money.  I assume he means for lawyers, this time.  He shares the wisdom his granddaddy imparted to him…Lots of people can survive a "cañonazo" (a cannon shot), but few survive a "cañonazo" of money.  Maybe Rita has settled down now.

Lorenza shows up at Augie's.  She was pretending not to want to go with him when really, she was dying to laugh in his face.  She's hoping Augie ends up living in the crappy apartment for the rest of his life…or jail, whichever.  Augie thinks her behavior is somehow motivated by love for Gata.  "No, I've got no love for her.  Or for you.  That's why I'm going to testify against you."  Augie proposes they ally themselves to screw over Esme, but Lo would rather screw him over.  Augie makes a confession…the woman who stole his love is "Fela" and he's the one who kidnapped her.  This is supposed to get Lo back on your side?

Pablo's buddy Henry might lend him money until he gets his own money back.  You remember Henry, Pablo's BFF in New York.

Congratulations, Augie, you just put the nail in your own coffin.  But before Lo can leave, Gisela shows up, saying they can't let her leave.

Dinner at Casa Fernando.  Blanca still isn't speaking.

Gisela physically grabs Lorenza, hands her over to Augie, and then chloroforms her.  Gisela says they'll keep her locked up.  Augie is shocked--that won't be as easy as keeping Blanca locked up.  And the boys will suspect something.  Gisela says they'll scam them so they think Lorenza went on a trip.  Augie still doesn't look convinced.  In the bedroom, Gisela demands Augie tie her up.  He looks sick.

Mariano shows up to dinner at Casa Fernando.  Lorenza was supposed to be there.  Pablo calls her.

Augie can't tie her up.  Lorenza is mumbling "I'm going to turn you in."  Augie's angry that Gisela isn't treating him with respect.  Even in her stupor, Lorenza rips the ropes out of Gisela's hands so she can't tie her up.  "You're kidnapping me," Lo mumbles.  Augie decides he'd rather keep her doped up than tied up.  Gisela just happens to have something to shoot Lo up with.

Lorenza's cell phone is ringing back in the living room.  Because Gisela isn't used to being missed by anyone for even a minute, it baffles her that the boys keep calling when Lorenza hasn't even been missing for two hours.  Augie says if they can't get hold of Lorenza, they'll blame him.  They blamed him for Blanca and they'll blame him for Lorenza, too.  Gisela says they'll just wait for a few days and then move Lorenza to somewhere else.  And the phone just keeps on ringing.

Tomorrow: everybody searches for Lorenza the way they never bothered searching for Fela.

Hey, some stuff happened!

Although, that "trial" was such a dud!

It's bugging Mr. 5ft, so I looked it up...unfortunately, "prótesis" can mean quite a lot of things. Basically, anything artificial that's being put into the body or used as a replacement for something else. So, a limb, an organ, a hearing aid, a screw. My guess was maybe he needs a shunt to move fluid out of his skull? Or maybe he needs a plate and screws put in.

Omigosh. Trial was a complete dud. I groaned when the judge announced the 24 hour recess (which will probably last a week on this show.)

I'm totally stealing your "filler" technique.

And the Plan B riff was wonderful. I'll probably go back and read it a couple more times today for the laughs. Big Badass Beads had me howling as well.

The whole kidnapping of Lo is just comical. Whatever Ms. Latoodle-oo.

Thanks so much for this recap. And on a holiday too! I appreciate it.

Thanks and Merry Christmas. Recap made a great "over coffee" start of today's festivities.

Great and thanks for doing this on the holiday Kat.

"Augie's beady little eyes try to get big, but come on. Nothing can be bigger than The Beads."

Now Lorenza?

Now we know why Virginia is so sweet, smart and works, she isn't the spawn of Augie & Lorenza.

Henry is a fool if he loans money to Pablo, he'll never see a penny

Merry Christmas, 5ft, what a great rendering of our tn during a hectic time!

God, I was SO hoping something would really blow up at that trial, and then nothing.

Their medical technical advisor must be someone who isn't a doctor, but used to play one in a tn on a rival network.

I thought that after Lo mopped the floor with Gisela that she would be the one capable of winning a fight, but that didn't happen. As Sara said, that kidnapping was a joke.

Thanks again, 5ft, and Merry Christmas to everyone.

David

Kat- Gosh, I. Would not stop laughing while reading this recap. Thank you so much for taking the time during your busiest season.

I caught the last few minutes and saw the kidnapping of Low. I was like, WTF is going on here? And then I started laughing uncontrollably. This tn is comedic gold!

I could not stop laughing, nor would I. :)

Gracias, Sara! I don't know what was more pathetic--the cliche prison break or the non-trial.

Gracias, Foxy! Have a great day!

Gracias, tofie! I'm glad they finally gave us a somewhat-plausible explanation for all the hints they've been dropping. This is maybe the one time that something seems to have been set up early and they just followed through. Now, if they would have left out that whole "she'll die if she gets pregnant" nonsense!

Gracias, David! I'm expecting Lo to be back out of the apartment in a day, since Gisela will be trusting Augie to administer the medication. Fool will probably shoot himself up by accident.

Gracias, Vivi! It really was hilarious the way, even in her drugged state, Lo did a better job of fighting off Gisela than anyone else ever has!

I hope everyone is having fun today. I am enjoying some well-deserved rest after all flurry of activity the last few weeks. Nothing but TV, knitting, and a little bit of candy-making (finally for me!)...and a lot of candy-eating!

Thank you Singing Diva for putting this up on Christmas Eve no less.

Big Badass Beads. LOL but I have to admit that my eyes went right to them when Lo first appeared last night.

Everybody searches for Lorenza the
way they never bothered searching for Fela. Yes, so true.

Augie and Gisela together---you don't expect them to do it right do you? I think that tonight Lo will be found and she will be fighting mad.

I forgot to say it yesterday but I was wondering why Carlos' singing to Virginia sounded so bad
He sounds good on Youtube.

So the trial will go on tonight. Maybe the fireworks will finally begin.

So Televisa has a new animal star
Plan B. Will Principe have to take a back seat now? I hope not.

How long will it take Rita to blow through her big windfall? Any bets?
the gringo

Hey Diva, Merry Christmas to you and thank you! Recap was a full-on riot, girl! You had me from the first sentence! I saw your recap first but stopped there so I watch the episode cause I couldn't believe it.

Am I the only one who thinks that Lo is lying about Virginia not being her daughter AND the mortal genetic disease? The way her pitiful crying face fell off as soon as Pablo left and she uttered those nasty words about Virginia led me to believe she made it all up because she hopes if it won't stop her from marrying, it will stop her from having children so Lo won't have a grandchild who is a [insert racial explitive].

She said: ". . .at least if Virginia adopts she won't have a grandchild who is *****." Yes, the sound was muted and the caption "bleeped" with three cots. There is no way such an arrogant, classist, cynical woman who hates her own grandchildren would not also be racist.

Don't mean to bring y'all down, just answering your question Diva!

Thank you Diva! It was divine!

* the caption was "bleeped" with three dots. . .

I watched the episode on hulu+.

Wish I had seen the proposal with the leaves and singing. Might have to seek it out.

As for the singing, Pedro Fernandez is the only person in a tn that I have seen/heard sing beautifully and on key when it wasn't pre-recorded music that was lip synched to. Always looked forward to when he would sing in Dinero. Of course, that's what he mainly does for a living.

Gracias, gringo! Good question about Rita...I don't know how far $6M pesos goes, but since she was talking about taking Ines and running away, I would guess she still has a lot left.

Gracias, Lila! I'm guessing it was something racist as well. It seems silly for them to use a word when they know it's going to be censored. Why bother? Then again, they have a weird sense of what needs to be bleeped. They'll talk about "protection" or "condoms" but bleep something like "prophylactic."

I'm guessing it was censored in Mexico or seen as offensive there. Uni is usually all over that, although I've seen one or two things slip through sometimes.

I meant wasn't censored in Mexico. Sometimes I just wish they'd leave it in and let us decide for ourselves. It would at least provide an interesting cultural discussion.

Do we know Carlos' background yet? I take it from the recaps that he was a red herring and the real baby Dorillla gave to Rita was lawyer boy (which makes no sense, there should have been no confusion with the age difference and race difference).

Thank you 5ft. for recapping this on a holiday. It is much appreciated.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL MY PATIO PEEPS. I will meet you for coffee tomorrow morning.

Vivi, we have no idea who Dorila's baby is and neither does she. And it doesn't seem like she wants to know, she just doesn't want it to be Carlos. I know Damian seems older than Carlos and Esme now, but when they were kids, he didn't give that impression. Or, well, he was shorter than Esme anyway!

Gracias, emeraldrose! I hope you're enjoying your holiday!

Wait, Damian finished law school and he's the same age as Esme and Carlos, who is dating barely 18 year old Virginia? And Carlos looks younger. Scratching my head, but, ok.
