La Gata #89 01/05/2015

Hi peeps, I had a doctors appointment this morning that ran late, I'll try to come back with a recap but I can't promise anything, feel free to discuss the episode in the comments section and bring your snark with you!

I have no snark. Snark has left the building. All I have left is bitterness.

When Fernando was laying out his reasons for once again not telling Esme who her parents are, I thought "Yeah, I'm totally seeing the family resemblance now. Stubbornness to the point of stupidity."

Pablo is a security risk because Gisela might have followed him, but Dr. Ex-Hottie (thanks, show, you've ruined Marcelo Cordoba for me FOREVER) isn't? What, Gisela is only capable of following certain people now?

I don't want Esme with any of these guys. She needs to be alone. They've all got her up on a pedestal. Being blubberingly grateful that the goddess has finally deigned to take notice of you isn't a solid base for a relationship between equals. And Pablo needs to get some parental rights already.

Lest I be accused of "hating" this show or never having anything positive to say...

I liked Esme's makeup. The switch to less eyeliner and a non-red lipstick is working for me. She's so gorgeous naturally I feel like caking on the makeup works against her.

Principe's still alive. Yay!

Jarocha moved in so now the babies don't have to be in that stroller 24/7.

Erika Buenfil is made of awesome. She lights up the screen no matter what.

I like the exterior of Esme's new digs.

I feel ya, Diva, on the bitterness. I'm not mad at anybody for making money and you can sing, or laugh, or even fart all the way to the bank if you want to but it IS possible to do that AND give people a quality show as well. It really is.

Eli, take your time, girl. Wharever you do is fine!

Add my voz de amargura as well.

This show is sucking all the joy out of my life...

...ok that's a bit hyperbolic, but for the first time ever I dread watching a show.

I missed this episode. Has Esme not moved out of the vicinity but just into her own place? How does that keep her and the babies safer from Gi?

Carvivlie, that's a question for the ages. She's still in the DF, close enough for Pablo to just pop over. Close enough to keep making stuff for the same jewelry shop. Pablo found her by following her...from the jewelry shop, I guess. Which really means, anyone could find her easily enough. But somehow, she thinks as long as Gisela doesn't know where she lives, she's safe. Because while Gisela may be a murderous wacko, surely her investigational skills must suck, right? And she's poor, so it's not like she can hire a PI, right? Oh, wait....

Esme is clearly El Sil's daughter.

I wish I knew the answer to that, Carvivlie!

Esme decided to distance herself from Pabs for the safety of her babies and loved ones. Gi will continue to threaten as long as Esme is with Pabs. Gi has also agreed to stay away from Pabs (you know this is not going to happen), but for the life of me I can't remember why Esme decided to stay in the DF.

Her job?
Her friends?

Anybody know?

This show is so convoluted I just can't seem to understand anything.

Because she can't leave her "tierras." Which have now apparently expanded to include not only the dump, the hillside, Silencioso's house, the Instituto, etc., but all of the DF. She feels such an affinity for this random locale in the DF that she'd probably never even visited before, that she could never dream of leaving.

I understand having such a love for your city/state/country that you feel like you could never leave it, but if the rationale for leaving at all is "safety" then screw roots! Get way the hell away!

Pablo should have taken Lo's advice from long ago, grab Esme and the kids and take them far away.

That spam might get better results if it had anything to do with telenovelas.

"I was once watching a very entertaining show, but then it all seemed to grow very stale and boring. I found out an evil producer had cast an Extension Spell on my show. I contacted Excellent Producer and gave him money and within days, my show was back on track, the galan started acting like a proper galan again, and the plot started to move along. You should contact Excellent Producer at EP@NoMoreLatoodle.com to help restore romance, excitement, and any sense of plot to your show!"

(go ahead and delete the spam comment if you want to, Eli)

La Diva: Priceless!!

Too bad we're back to full-on-evil Lo again. Although, this time around, she's less rant-y, which I actually appreciate. I don't need to hear about your evil plans or how much you hate La Gata...don't tell me, show me!

I loved your "spam", Diva!!

If they made this a musical it would be so much more entertaining. I can just hear a song named "La Gata" wherein you see each character who hates her, in their separate habitats, sing about their dislike in alternate turns. A bit "Into the Woods" like

And, of course, then you have to give all the boys a number about how much they luuuuuurve her! And Pablo and Doc Hottie could duke it out in a duet about which one is better for her. Mariano, however, gets a solo about his conflicted feelings and how she's taught him the true meaning of love and friendship. Mariano doesn't have to share his number with anyone, damnit!

Yes! Mariano fighting his bad side off with the love he has found for La Gata. Of course a duet with Fela and El Sil could be quite moving. Lo and Gi could have a duet over who will win.

I think Malcolm is lying. I'll bet he converted to some religion that allows multiple spouses, and kept them both.

I enjoy all the complaints from you all, but I don't really take it that seriously since I'm just trying to learn Spanish. As long as they don't talk too fast, and the Spanish sub-titles are in synch with the dialogue I'm okay.

Having said that, this really is kind of lame TN.

David

It would be called "My Beads are Bigger."

Aw, yeah, a gushy ballad between El Sil and Fela about how they still love each other despite all their personality changes.

David- Do you feel like the round and round conversations mess with your comprehension? Sometimes I understand, but then I go back and try to recap it and I ask myself if I understood it at all.

Into the Dump--I like it!

Well, David, this show has expanded my vocabulary for insults. Between Lo and Gi, I have far more synonyms for "poor" now...not that I'd want to use them on anyone, but at least I'll know what I'm hearing!

I picked up micifuz on Friday. It means puss or pussycat.

But the bead thing has even rubbed off on Esme, she is building bigger bolder (and from the look of it, totally ugly) cheapo bead necklaces that allow her to live in that nice apartment.

I wish I could quit my day job and string beads.

J in Oregon

Sara, I get confused a lot by round about dialogue, idioms and slang, and my hearing is such that I use the sub-titles, which aids my hearing what is being said.

It's funny, but when a new TN starts, my comprehension goes way down, but once I get used to the way they talk, it goes up a lot.

Diva, it hadn't actually occurred to me how they are using every belittling phrase in the language.

David

Come on Diva, bring back the snark
Life without snark is hopeless.
It could be worse. Over in Hasta el Fin, Sofia is about to marry the man that is out to destroy the Ripoll Company. Besides Principe is still alive the big bad DC wolf didn't eat him so all can't be that bad after all.

One thing that I do like about this novela is that every so often just seconds before a commercial break we get a close
up of an angry set of Gata's big brown eyes slightly looking up at an angle. I Think that it is great how they get those shots.

You see, there is things to like and I am sure that when Gisela goes down for the count, we will all cheer.

Out of time so that's all for me today Gata Peeps.
the gringo

David, I'll be surprised if I ever hear another insult that I didn't hear on this show first. For all their faux-PSA-ing, they missed a prime opportunity to introduce some non-pejorative vocabulary around disabilities, as opposed to Gisela's 50 synonyms for "cripple."

lol, gringo...it's only snark if it's funny too and I definitely don't feel like I'm being very funny, but maybe my bitterness is clouding my judgment. It had better be spectacular when Gisela is finally anvil-ed!

Ooooooooooooooohhhhhh, gaaaawwwwdddd. This thing is crap and sorry guys but I find every excuse in the world not to think bout it much. Now to be fair, as gringo points out Hasta is pretty bad now too but gata sucks.

Rita - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2hR-rOukbU

Haha, Sara...Into the Dump! Featuring Lorenza as the witch you don't ever want to steal The Magic Beads from :D

tofie, I don't know what Rita's boots were made for, but it's not walking! If her and Chacharas disappearing behind the curtain means what I think I means, then those boots were made for knocking! Which would have been fine, but seriously...what trips Rita's trigger is having a guy act like a total macho asshat and the potential he'll get violent with her? Gross!!!!

David-I try not to use the Spanish captions, but sometimes I have to use them.

tofie-I'm not watching Hasta, but is it "bad" as in "they are doing stupid stuff, but there seems to be some sort of story" bad or "bad" as in "holy crap I can't stand to listen to these people yammer and do nothing" bad?

".what trips Rita's trigger is having a guy act like a total macho asshat and the potential he'll get violent with her? Gross!!!!

You know, I feel like they use that a lot in these TNs. I've seen it on STuD and Abismo. Well, maybe not a lot. But I've seen it enough that it makes me wonder why they do that whole "violence is hot" thing.

J, I knew a bead-stringer once. Well, ok, she was actually an artist who created very dramatic necklaces out of found objects. She also made sure to have a supply of cheapie stuff that really was just strings of beads without a lot of thought put into them. Guess what people bought? The crappy, cheap beads. They'd ooh and aah over her statement pieces and then balk at the price. Nobody ever disputed that they were gorgeous, but they didn't want to pay what they were worth, either. So that jewelry shop owner must be very good at marketing or have a high-end clientele, or something, because even doing really fabulous work isn't enough to make money on handmade goods.

"But I've seen it enough that it makes me wonder why they do that whole 'violence is hot' thing."

And they're starting to put domestic violence PSAs into some of these shows, but they keep pushing the idea that part of what it means to "be a real man" is to "control your woman." Mixed messages all over the place! Sometimes they make it really clear that the guys who behave that way are bad guys, but Chacharas?

And worse (IMO) is that I think that scene was supposed to be funny. Maybe the violence doesn't count because they are senior citizens?

I don't know why, but I think "I Knew a Bead Stringer" needs to be either a folk song or a bluegrass tune (like Mule Skinner.) Can we work that into La Gata-The Musical?

Sara, they got a story with Hasta and the protags are in that stupid stage where a lie or two has split them apart but there are some really stupid characters in the thing. Main problem for me was the change in the lead actor just hasn't worked. The original guy Pedro Fernandez I believed, though he was dog butt ugly, and now David Zepeda took over and not believable and comes off kinda creepy.

What really killed gata for me though, was watching a real show, La Malquerida

A lot doesn't count because they're senior citizens. Like the sex I assume they had. Played for laughs because ha, ha, everybody knows old people don't have sex! Suuuuuure. Around here, most of the "older" people are having a much more active social life than I'd be able to keep up with, so I wouldn't be surprised what else they do more of than I do. They're not dead yet!

Oh, the seniors here in Florida are wild. Hell, go to the yacht club on Thursday night, the women are chasing the few upright men around.

They could do a seniors-only telenovela that would be just as steamy as ones with bunches of 20-somethings running around, but heaven forbid we try for some realism! That's just not dramatic enough! They'd probably whine that "no one will watch!" too. Well, I would! Especially when they keep trying to for me to like these younger actors are nowhere near the level of talent of the older ones.

I am astounded the talent in some of these TN's and wonder why all of them aren't on the big screen (I know some of them are). Problem here is they made a cartoon and tried to pass it off as a romantic drama I give a shit about.

You know, if some dim wit like Fernando lurched around beating that same old drum 24/7 somebody would kill em. Or Gisela, she's not crazy, only smarter than everybody else which isn't saying much. My favorite, Fela, is crazy, but could you imagine listening to that droll from Fernando, she should smother him as he sleeps or slam his ponytail in a semi truck door and tell them to drive.

I can't even mention Bobo the clown anymore without getting mad.

Did we run out of coals to rake it over? Oh well.

The only thing we haven't mentioned is that FINALLY Mariano said he's working on getting Pablo out of his contract with Gisela, but it's going to take some time.

Oh, and Gisela formulated some plan for killing Esme that she's expecting Garabato to carry out.

So, yeah...people talk about doing stuff, but don't actually get anything done.

Not so fast. Why does Garabato even need Giseala? He keeps saying when he finds Esmeralda, he'll report back for orders from head quarters. What happened to taking some initiative and let the creative juices flow? What happens if Garabato finds out tonight he was destined for a silver spoon but Pablo's daddy ripped it from his mouth? Shouldn't he go for Bobo?

He could...if he makes the connection that if he has money, Ines might suddenly find him good Daddy material. Or she might just keep insisting he has to get rid of Gata regardless.

I think we've established that neither Garabato nor Gisela are the brains of any operation, so I'm not really thinking her life is in any danger. Now, if Ines made the plans, then maybe there would be cause for concern.

You know what I think is going to happen? After this cat doody ends, QUIERO AMARTE will either A- be given in 2 hours like La Mujer del Vendaval was shortly or B- moved into La Gata's timeslot in one hour only.

God forbid QA faces editing though. Aside from La Malquerida, it's the only good current novela on. I want to say MCET and HEFDM are good and they are but they will and are suffering extension thus lingering out certain plotlines.

I think Quiero Amarte was one that people had been talking about for a long time and wanting to recap...and then it ended up in a daytime slot. What's up with that?

It's the bad publicity it got. Karyme's sort of hypocritical if you ask me; she denies herself, Cristian and the public of h-o-t hawt tiger love scenes but when you look back at that travesty Amar sin Limites she half-skinny dipped with Valentino in the theme song (and showed the bare side of her breast and butt cheek.)

So for that, they exiled the entire show to daytime? Bummmmmmerrrrrrr!

I agree QA is good and it really should have gotten an evening slot. Another dimwitted move from Uni, but would they really move an afternoon show to an evening all slot? Especially since 70 something episodes have already aired?

I can't recall them ever moving a daytime show to evening...I vaguely remember them moving an evening show to daytime, but I don't remember which one. I'd also never seen them advertise a Gran Estreno and then change their minds and delay it before this show, so I guess it's possible.

Con dolor de mi alma; I think if they were to move it they'd probably suffer the push of the reset button like Cosita Linda did. Then again they probably won't move it at all. I am in agreement that the most believeable option after Gata Turd ends is El Color de la Pasion. Well that and Mi Corazon es Tuyo (or QA) being double-houred. I really hope that if ECDLP is aired, there is no editing because lately 4:00-5:00 (7:00-8:00) has become the chopping block (prime examples DQTQx2 and PSMA.)

Kat- it was Gancho that was moved and Mentir para Vivir was close to being moved there (it was still moved to after CI.)

Addendum on that- Una Familia con Suerte was advertised to start around the time Llena de Amor was to end but was revoked and aired in September. That and the Venevision novela Pecadora went through that.
