La Malquerida #101, 1/15/2015: Dan Gets Felled by the Ho, the Knife, and the Stiletto

Mexico Episodes 114 and 115. Cut scenes in italics.

Episode #114: Broken Glass and Shattered Dreams
Cris has just fallen to her knees, begging Acacia to forgive her for not seeing Esteban’s intentions towards her. Acacia tells her that what happened with Esteban was her fault. She should have put distance between them from the first moment he made a move on her. Cris refuses to let Acacia think it was her fault. She knows women who have suffered sexual harassment often feel that it’s their fault, but it’s not true. She begs Acacia for forgiveness again and says she should have realized what was happening to her, but she trusted Esteban too much.

Before Acacia can tell the whole truth, Elena and Juan Carlos walk in. Acacia quickly excuses herself, as JC hugs Cris and tells her the obvious—she’s married to a killer! He can’t believe it. Elena wants to know why he killed a young man he has known since he was a little boy? JC can’t believe that the motivation could have only been the desire to keep Benavente. Cris yells out that Este’s motive was to keep Manuel from Acacia. JC doesn’t get it. Este had become supportive of the marriage.
C: Because he didn’t want Manuel to make her his mujer! Because he wanted her for himself!
Elena and JC look like they’re going to keel over from the shock.

The police chief reports to the folks in the kitchen (Uli, Andres, Rosa, and Luisa) that there’s a manhunt for Esteban, and he doesn’t think he’ll get far on horse. Rosa is freaked out. She would have never imagined that Este would lose his mind and do something like this! The chief tells them not to worry. He’s posted extra guards around the hacienda. But being a fugitive, he doesn’t think Este is going to want to hang around the area.

JC can’t believe that Este has sullied their household this way. What Este has done warrants him getting killed! He threatens to do the job himself, if he gets his hands on him. Elena tries to calm JC down—they need to be strong. JC can’t believe this was going on with his granddaughter, right in front of his eyes! Cris now understands that the reason Acacia got married so abruptly was because she was trying to flee Esteban. Elena doesn’t understand why Acacia didn’t tell them. Cris is certain it must have been because she was afraid to tell them. Elena understands that it was a delicate situation, since it was about her mother’s husband. JC laments, “How blind we were! How blind we were!” He remembers the other day when he found Esteban inside Acacia’s room (machete day). He had the feeling then that something was wrong, but he never thought it was something so serious! So terrible! Cris says she needs to know EVERYTHING that happened between them. She runs out of the room, and Elena follows. JC takes a photo of Este and curses him. “Damn you! Damn you a thousand times!” He smashes the framed picture to the floor.

Acacia tells Ale that she has to tell Cris everything. Ale agrees, but not at this moment when she just found out her husband is a letch and a murderer. Acacia says if she doesn’t do it, she’ll never be able to ever look Cris in the eyes again. She blames herself for what happened to Manuel. She married Manuel to escape Esteban, and look what happened. Ale says she couldn’t have known what would happen.

Rubio is let out of jail.

Elena and Cris double team Acacia to ask why she didn’t trust them enough to tell them what was going on. Acacia says she didn’t know how. At first she thought Esteban wanted to get close to her—not like a father, but as a friend. Cris wants to know everything that happened. Did Esteban threaten her to keep quiet? Acacia suddenly gets worried. With Esteban on the loose, Ulises is in danger. Esteban threatened to kill him if he got close to her!

Esteban gets his horse tied up to tree as his phone rings. It’s Rubio, who thanks him for getting him out. Este tells Rubio that the cops are after him for Manuel’s murder and he needs his help. He’ll compensate him as usual. He wants Rubio to meet him at the Paraje del Lobo (the Wolf Stop). He’ll give him his hotel key so that he can get his things for him. Rubio needs to go directly to their meeting place, and not let anyone know.

Elena and Cris stop Acacia’s panic about Ulises by letting her know Ulises is right there in the hacienda. Ale runs to get him and Acacia runs off after her. Cris is still itching for answers, but Elena tells her to let Acacia go. It’s a blessing that Ulises is here for her—he’ll help her feel better. Elena says Cris will also get better with time. Cris doesn’t know. This has all left her feeling empty inside. “With everything that Esteban did, I feel like my soul left with him.” She hugs her mama for comfort.

Acacia also hugs Ulises when the meet in the den/office. She begs him to be careful until they capture Este. In fact, he should just stay at Benavente. Uli assures her he won’t take risks, but he’s also not going to stand back and do nothing. She tells him Este threatened to do the same thing to him that he did to Manuel. She would die if anything happen to him. He assures her he’ll be fine and that Este is likely more preoccupied with fleeing than harming him. They hug.

Elena and Cris return to the bedroom, where JC is still seething. Elena tries to talk Cris down from berating herself by saying Esteban fooled them all. JC says what Este did is not what real men do! “Look how he played with the love of a woman like you, who loved him unconditionally.” Cris now feels that he only married her for money. It’s what Acacia always told her, and she didn’t believe it. Elena takes Cris’ hands and says the only thing they can do now is turn to God, to get guidance on what to do next. Cris frets about how her daughter must have suffered. She falls into her parents’ arms sobbing.

Uli leans in for a kiss and Acacia pulls away. She says that if she had only believed him, none of this would have happened. She doesn’t deserve him. Uli tells her that’s all in the past. She goes on about how good and honest he is. Uli shushes her. Now he knows that Este did all of this to separate them. He took the letter from Rubio and kept it from her. It’s his fault they are separated now. “I was stupid. I believed so much in him that I believed everything he said against you.” Ulises says they will overcome this. Acacia isn’t sure.

German, who is totally out of the loop on all the drama at Benavente, bursts into Ale’s room. He needs to talk to her right now about them, and won’t let her tell him anything about what’s been going on. He tells her that Lizzy broke their engagement. Ale coyly says she knows—Lizzy came to see her. She told her that German still loves her.
G: She’s right. I love you. I’ve always loved you.
A: And I love you. You’re the love of my life. The only man I’ve ever loved.
They stare into each other’s eyes and then kiss.

Night falls and Norberto and Juliana arrive at Benavente. They’ve seen all the cops in the area and they want to know what’s going on. Cris and JC tell them they are looking for Manuel’s killer. Juli immediately jumps to the conclusion that it was Rubio and it was all Luisa’s fault! Cris tells them it was Esteban. Juli and Norb are speechless.

Inside the den, Acacia naps in the armchair, while Uli looks on protectively. He remembers their first meeting, first kisses, first time making love. He strokes her hair and face.

Norb and Juli lose it and accuse Cris of harboring Esteban and protecting him. Juli once again spews her theory that Cris always does what Este asks. JC intervenes and tells her that his daughter is telling the truth! Norb grabs Cris’ arms and demands that she tell him where Esteban is—he’ll kill him! Hector comes to the rescue and takes Norb’s hands off Cris. Norb gets hold of himself.

Uli and Acacia are now both curled up in the chair, when she awakens. Uli takes her hand and asks her to put all of this behind them, and retake the plans they had before. He knows they love each other, despite everything. Acacia says there are things she can’t get out of her head. Uli knows they can overcome them together.
A: No, Ulises. I can’t get back together with you.
U: Why not? What’s holding you back now?
A: Guilt. This feeling of being dirty inside. Ulises, I can’t get back together with you without telling you the truth.
U: What do you mean?
A: It’s true that Esteban was wrong in having designs on me. But I…I also returned his feelings.

Juli and Norb continue their verbal assault on Cris for her murderous husband. Hector isn’t having it. He points out that Cris didn’t know that asshole was a killer. She’s a victim of that jerk and he destroyed her life. Juli and Norb want to know why he did it, and Hector is about to say that no one could have known he was interested in Acacia, but JC jumps in and stops him. He says no one could have known Este was allied with Danilo Vargas. That’s what the police say. He was supposed to bring Dan money to escape. Norb posits that Este killed Manuel on behalf of Danilo. German walks up (looking kind of disheveled…what were he and Ale up to in that room?) and asks if this means Este knew where that bastard Danilo is. He can’t believe it! No wonder the guards didn’t see anything strange! He wonders what Dan could have possibly offered Este to make him accept doing something like that. Juli accuses Cris of knowing all along, and Acacia too! Since it turns out her crazy accusations weren’t so crazy after all. German jumps on Juli’s case for daring to accuse Cris and Acacia of such a thing. It’s pure coincidence. Juli can’t believe he wants to spend one more second in the house where his brother was murdered, and demands that he return with them to the finca. German tells her that Cris and Acacia need his support now more than ever, and he won’t abandon them.

Ulises is devastated. He begs Acacia to tell him that it’s not true that she returned Este’s feelings. Acacia says she prefers he hate her but know the whole truth. Uli tries to find excuses. “He forced you, right?”  Acacia says she was confused and hurt, and Uli wasn’t with her. Uli can’t believe that while he was kidnapped, suffering, and believing she loved him and was waiting for him, she was having a grand time with Esteban! Acacia asks him not to take it that way. It happened because…Uli finishes her sentence, “Because you ALLOWED it to happen!”
U: You betrayed your mother. Of course. You were together all the time. Who would suspect a thing so terrible, when you were father and daughter?
Acacia says how awful she feels. When she realized what they were doing, she tried to put a stop to it and told Este to forget her. Uli loses it. When did this happen?!!! He shakes her. Acacia swears she and Uli weren’t together anymore, and when she went to Uli and asked him to get back together, he rejected her. Uli can’t believe she went running to the arms of her STEPFATHER!
U: Tell me something. Does your mother know that you had a relationship with her husband?
Silence from Acacia takes us into a break, but when we come back, she still hasn’t answered the question. Uli asks, “What are you going to do, Acacia? Are you going to continue hiding the truth from your mother?” Acacia says the only reason she hasn’t told her is because she doesn’t know how.
U: Of course. You would kill her with the pain. I’m just some poor idiot who fell in love with you, but she’s your mother! YOUR MOTHER!! It’s a double betrayal. What the heck is wrong with you Acacia? Have you lost your mind??!!!
A: Yes, I went crazy! From desperation and anguish! I didn’t know what was happening to me. I didn’t know what I was feeling. I love you Ulises. (She tries to hug him and he pushes her away.)
U: If you loved me, you wouldn’t have set your sights on that killer!
A: I didn’t know that! I swear I don’t know what happened to me. I admired Esteban and cared for him. I felt protected by him.
U: Yeah! Look how he protected you. He killed Manuel because he believed you were his!

Uli says he wants to kill Este, and Acacia takes his face in her hands and begs him not to. He wonders if she’s trying to defend him, but she says she doesn’t want Uli to do something crazy.
A: I need you to understand how everything happened. I shouldn’t have let myself get swept up/carried away.
Uli removes her hands from his face and tells her she should have never permitted it to happen. Acacia apologizes and Uli works himself up into a rage demanding to know if she loves Esteban.

In a no-tell motel, that is not Dan’s, Este counts stacks of money as Rubio watches. If Rubio had known he was withdrawing so much cash for Este, he would have brought a better bag. Este throws him a stack of bills for his troubles. Rubio declares his loyalty. Este plans to leave the country, but he can’t leave without HIS Acacia.

Acacia says she adored Ulises, but when she thought he had left her and gone off with another, she felt so horrible, so alone, so betrayed.
U: Our love wasn’t strong enough for you to believe in me. You preferred to believe the things Esteban told you to distance you from me. My love wasn’t enough!
A: I swear that isn’t it. It has nothing to do with it.
U: Don’t try to justify yourself. I NEVER want to see you again! NEVER, you hear?! No one has ever disappointed me more than you. (He walks out and Acacia kneels to the ground sobbing.)

Rubio tries to talk sense to Esteban about how stupid and dangerous it is for him to go back to Benavente. Este says he has nothing left to lose. He knows that it was just fear keeping Acacia from going with him. But now that her mother knows the truth, there’s nothing stopping her. Rubio doesn’t know how he can help. Este wants him to slip her a letter. Rubio is hesitant. Este points out that he’s given him enough money to start a new life. In fact, when he has Acacia and starts his new business, Rubio can be his right hand man. (Delusional much?) Rubio wants to know how they’ll be able to do that with the police after him. Este tells him they’ll leave the country, but not to worry about that now. He gives Rubio more cash and instructions to buy him an old car that doesn’t draw attention. Este wants him to establish his alibi for the night by going to the cantina and making himself conspicuous. Rubio is not in a hurry to go back the Benavente, since Luisa has lost faith in him.

German has actually accompanied Juli and Norb back to the finca. He and Juli sit on either side of Norb on the living room couch, and argue as Norb sits in dejected silence. Juli keeps nagging, and nagging at German, and then at Norb to make German come back to work the finca. Norb finally has had enough, and drags Juli up from the couch. “You are the most frivolous and superficial woman I have ever known!” He drags her out flailing and screaming.

Rubio celebrates his freedom with Rogelio and a bottle of tequila in the cantina. He feigns ignorance when Rogelio tells him his patron is a murderer.

I know I should not laugh at this, but…Norberto drags Juli to the curb and throws her out.
J: This is my house!
N: It WAS your house!
Norb is tired of her egotism. Even Manuel’s death didn’t matter to her. She tried to use the money from his business.  And German matters to her even less, since she’s trying to keep him there to work, despite the threat to his life. He doesn’t believe in her tears anymore. She says she’ll fight for half of the finca. “Do it! I want to see it!” He tells her she needs to work, something she’s never done. Juli tries to appeal to German for help, but this time he’s on Norberto’s side. Plus, she’s not out on the street. She can go to her parents’ house, where German will send her money—the only thing that matters to her. German then says, “Sorry, Juliana. But, now I’m the one who doesn’t want to be near you.” German hands Juli her purse, and turns and walks back into the house. Norb follows him and shuts the door. She screams Norb’s name and pounds on the door.

Cris tells JC how she reacted when she heard Este’s confession. She wanted to kill him. JC understands, and he understands Norb’s rage too. But he didn’t want them to know the whole truth about Esteban’s motivations because he doesn’t want his granddaughter to be the subject of gossip. Cris agrees. Cris is worried for Ulises’ safety because Esteban is loco. Hector comes up, and Cris immediately hugs him, telling him he was right. He says how sorry he is, as she cries and thanks him for warning her. He saved her daughter. Realizing he might need to invest in a new son-in-law, JC leaves them alone.

Juli calls Andres and begs him not to hang up. She needs to talk to him about German.

Cris continues to apologize to Hector for being so rude to him when he told her the truth. But now she understands everything. She doesn’t know how she’s going to go on—she feels like she’s the living dead. Hector says Esteban is a jerk who doesn’t deserve her, but she will survive. Cris thought she had already experienced life’s greatest pains, but now she knows she was wrong. He gently takes her face and wipes her tears. She tells him not to worry. She won’t fall into depression again. That bastard, who she gave her love and life to, is out there, just waiting to harm her daughter. Hector says he won’t allow it.

Norb doesn’t want German to change his plans, and turns down his offer to stay. He’ll handle bringing Esteban to justice. He couldn’t take it if Danilo hurt him. He asks if German has everything ready for the wedding. “Yes. I’m getting married. But not to Lizzy.” “What?”

Acacia tells Ale that with this revelation she’s lost Ulises forever. He’ll never forgive her. If this is the way Ulises took it, how will her mother take it when she finds out? “She’s going to die.”

Norb is trying to wrap his head around his son’s complicated love life. “Let me get this…Lizzy renounced you for love and now you’re going to marry Alejandra?” Yep, if she accepts me. “Even after everything she’s experienced…?” German draws a deep breath, warning Norb that he’s stepping into dangerous territory bringing up Ale’s past. Norb has learned his lesson.
N: Who am I to judge her? She was forced. While I did many stupid things.  And believe me that I’m paying for them with interest. The worst punishment was losing your brother in this way.
He knows Ale was just another victim of Danilo, and that German has always loved her. He gives German his blessing and hugs him. Norb tells him he HAS to go.

Cris tells Hector that she gave Este all her cash, and hadn’t even signed the contract yet. She trusted him blindly! Hector says he’ll speak to Campusano tomorrow. Cris thanks him for his support and friendship. Hector says what he loves about her is that she can handle all this stuff by herself, and always has been able to. He leaves, and Cris starts smashing stuff and cursing Esteban. Let it all out, girl!

Rubio is good and smashed now. Rogelio strums the guitar and Rubio starts making up a little ditty about a certain patron who killed a man in order to end up with Acacia, La Malquerida. Rogelio stops playing.

Acacia finds Cris crying among a pile of smashed glass and torn pictures in the den.

German has returned to Benavente and Ale’s room. He sits her down and takes her hand.
G: I always dreamt that the day I asked you to marry me, I’d do something spectacular. A hot air balloon, out in the sea, skywriting…I don’t know. I imagined it thousands of times because I wanted it to be something unforgettable, special.
A: But you know I don’t need any of that.
G: I know. And I promise you that one day, when circumstances are different or we’ve been married for years, we’ll renew our vows and I’ll do all of that.
Ale kisses him.
G: But for now…(he removes the rosary beads from around his neck) the only thing I need (he takes her hand and wraps the rosary around her wrist)…Alejandra de Silva, will you marry me?
A: It’s what I most want in this world. (They smile and kiss.)

Back in the den, Cris asks if Acacia spoke with Uli. Acacia says she doesn’t want to speak about it right now. She just wants Cris to hug her, and forgive her. “I have nothing to forgive you for. I just want to take care of you and protect you.”

Rogelio tells Rubio he can’t go around saying these kinds of things. Rubio says there was obviously a reason why the patron killed that jerk. Rogelio tells him to shut up. Even if it’s true, one doesn’t go around saying these things. For the sake of Señora Cristina and her daughter he needs to hush up. (Who knew the local cantina owner/prostitute pusher also had a sense of decorum?) Norb walks into the cantina and grabs Rubio. He knows Rubio knows where he can find Esteban!  Rubio swears ignorance. He’s just a mere employee of the hacienda, and his loyalty is with Cris. Norb says he’ll pay him whatever he asks if he brings any news to Norb first. Rogelio congratulates Norb on his son’s upcoming wedding to Lizzy. Norb tells him he’s behind on the gossip. German is marrying Alejandra, the friend of Acacia. Rogelio is surprised by the bride switch. Norb says German will spend the rest of his life with the woman he loves. He asks Rogelio to inform him if he hears anything, and then leaves.

How low have the mighty fallen. Dan is forced to sweep up his own broken tequila bottles in his squalid motel room, and ends up cutting his foot on a piece of glass. He calls Rogelio for an update. Uh oh!

German tells Ale he doesn’t want to be separated from her one second more, while giving me, uhm…her a seductive look. He wants them to speak tomorrow about all the arrangements for them to go to Spain and to get married. Ale doesn’t want to leave Cris and Acacia at a time like this, but German is sure they will understand. They’ll speak to them tomorrow. What’s important is that they get married. As long as it’s just the two of them in front of God, he doesn’t need anything else. Ale asks if he’s sure he wants to marry her in the Church, even though she…German says for him, she’s a virgin, pure, and he knows God agrees. Nothing would make her happier than to pledge her love before God. Smoochies!

Dan thanks Rogelio for the news and says he’ll be well rewarded. He speaks to himself. “Ay, German. You want to marry MY Ale.” He takes his pillow and pretends to speak to his Chiquita, Ale. “You know what? You’re both going to die at the altar.” Yikes!

Acacia cries and laments what she must do but can’t, among the broken glass and ripped photos in the den.

Episode #115: The Truth Shall Set You Free
Luisa comes into the den to comfort Acacia. Acacia doesn’t know how she will forget all this. The worst is what happened to Manolo. Luisa knows it’s painful, but they have to confront it. She suffered a lot because of Manuel, but in the end she found her happiness. The same will happen for Acacia. Luisa mentions that Ulises was desperate to speak to her. Acacia says their relationship cannot be. Luisa knows he loves her and never stopped. If she’s pushing him away to mourn Manuel, well, he’s no longer here. But Acacia is still here and alive. “Ay Luisa. There is no remedy for this. I just want to disappear.”

Hector tells Uli that he wants to look out for Cris. He’s worried she’ll fall into depression. Uli says she’ll need him more than ever, but doesn’t elaborate. Hectors asks what’s wrong with Uli. There’s nothing standing in the way between him and Acacia anymore. He points out that this wasn’t Acacia’s fault and Esteban manipulated her. Uli says he thought the same thing, but now he knows the truth. She didn’t do anything she didn’t want to do. She fell in love with that idiot.

Cris riffles through Este’s files, and Rosa brings Acacia in because she looked so sad and they couldn’t raise her spirits. Rosa tells Cris that just like she considers them family, they are family to her and Luisa and they are here to support her and Acacia. Rosa leaves them alone. Cris wants to know what she can do to make Acacia feel better. Cris says she’s searching for answers, any answers, that would explain what happened. Acacia begs her not to torture herself, and asks her to sleep with her in her room tonight. Cris agrees and tells her they need to be strong and come out of this together. “You’re all I need to keep going.”

Hetcor asks if Uli is sure. Uli says it isn’t gentlemanly for him to speak of this, but he’s just so upset about it—imagining the two of them together. Hector thinks this is why Acacia is in such bad shape. “Sure. Because of the guilt, and because she has to tell her mother.”

Juli begs Andres to invent an illness for her, so that Norb and German will take her back. That way, German will stay at the finca. Andres looks at her in disgust. “You know what? I will tell German that you’re sick. Your illness is called egoism and greed.” He gives her money so that she can take the bus to her parents’ house. For the good of them all, he hopes she stays there. Juli cries and makes a scene in the restaurant. Andres disentangles himself and walks away.

Hector tells Uli that he doesn’t think Acacia got involved with Esteban because she’s a bad person. Esteban is older and way more astute, and knew how to manipulate her. Uli’s not hearing any justifications for Acacia’s behavior. Hector tells him there are always two sides to the story. All Uli wants is for Cris to learn the truth. Hector points out that isn’t Uli’s job. Hector will speak to Acacia. She’s the one who has to confess it to Cris.

The next morning, Cris and Acacia walk outside the grounds. German comes up and asks how they are. Acacia says she knows his parents have accused them of hiding Esteban, but she assures him they don’t know where he is. German knows, and also tells them that Norb knows too. He explains that Juli’s attitude has caused Norb to throw her out of the house. They ask about the prep for his wedding—they want to talk about good news. He tells them he’s going to marry the woman he never stopped loving—Alejandra. Both Cris and Acacia break out into joyful, surprised smiles. He tells them that Lizzy was so good and mature that she stepped aside to let them be happy. Ale arrives and they hug her.

Perla speaks to the police chief on the phone who tells her that she’s free to go and no charges will be brought against her. She and Julianita celebrate, although they still worry with Danilo still on the loose.

Ale and German explain to Cris and Acacia that the wedding will be intimate and small, and of course they are on the list. They’ll marry in San Gabriel and be really discreet about it so that Dan doesn’t find out, and also to be respectful of Lizzy. Cris tells them that life goes on, and they are the best example. She wishes them happiness and luck in Spain.

Rubio says I told you so to Luisa. Rosa assures him that Luisa was worried about him in jail. Luisa apologizes to him and says she’s happy that she was wrong. She tells him it’s one thing that she doesn’t love him, and quite another that she doesn’t appreciate him. She does, and acknowledges that in his own way, he’s always treated her well and been a good friend. Rubio doesn’t want to be her friend. He loves her too much to see her with another man. “Even though I’ll be married to Arturo, if you ever need me one day, I’ll be there for you.”

Art talks to Uli about the grim news about Esteban. The good thing is that Uli can be there for Acacia. Uli rolls his eyes. Art continues. He and Luisa would like him and Acacia to be their best man/maid of honor/sponsors (padrinos)- they are sure Uli and Acacia will be getting back together. Uli tells him to forget it. He’s never getting back together with Acacia.

Cris takes her wedding rings off and throws them into the fields. Rubio comes up and asks for his job back. Cris apologizes to him for his getting locked up for Este’s crime. If he wants to come back, he can. He gets on his knees and says he’s loyal to her, like a dog. Cris isn’t convinced. He always says that, but today he can prove it. He was Esteban’s right hand man, and he must know things. She wants to know everything he knows, and especially what he knows about Este and her daughter.

Ale paces, as she waits with German for Hector for news of her marital status. Hector brings good news. They can get married as soon as they want. There is no justice of the peace with the name she gave him, nor any existing marriage certificate with her and Dan’s names. Dan faked the whole thing! Ale hugs him. “I only have one thing to discuss with you, German. You need to explain to me, how is it that you are going to marry this angel?”

Cris wants to know if Rubio saw anything strange. He says all he saw was how Esteban taught Acacia how to manage the hacienda, and then they started to get along well. He even went to see her when she wasn’t doing well and went to San Jacinto. Cris asks what happened there. Rubio doesn’t know. He wasn’t there. All he knows is that Acacia started not to get along with him after that, up till he killed her husband. Rubio excuses himself—he knows he’s talking about her husband. Cris says don’t worry—it will be for only a short time more. Rubio goes off to work. Cris says he knows her conditions—treat the workers well, and no alcohol. Cris also demands that he tell her immediately if Este contacts him.

Perla and Julianita meet with another of Dan’s ex-girls who now works for Rogelio in the cantina. Perla tells her that the police have cleared out of Dan’s place and told them they can go retrieve their things. Perla wants to meet with all the girls there tomorrow, to propose a new business they can all work in together. Not prostitution, she clarifies for Julianita.

Memo is now in a prison cell in his prison khakis. He reads a letter from Perla who vows to visit him often, and tells him she misses him and loves him. He smiles.

Dan gets another update from Rogelio, who tells him Rubio is out of jail, the cops have cleared out of his house and land, and that the girls will meet there tomorrow at noon. Rogelio says this is the last time they’ll speak because he’s taking a huge risk. Dan promises compensation when he gets his hands on his cash hidden on his land.

Hector walks with Cris through Benavente. He tells Cris he’s come to speak to Acacia, if she doesn’t mind. She doesn’t. They see Campusano approach with another man. Turns out it’s his lawyer. Cris introduces Hector as her lawyer and friend. Campusano breaks the news that Este never deposited the money she gave him. Acacia walks up in time to here this. Cris can’t believe it. “He robbed me! Esteban robbed me!” She explains that it was the last liquid capital that she had. She can’t believe she lost a huge chunk of Acacia’s inheritance and was so stupid! Hector promises that Esteban will pay. He embraces Cris and Acacia.

The next day in the office/den, Hector sighs over a picture of Cris. Acacia arrives to speak to him. She starts by asking Hector to watch over Uli to protect him from Esteban. Hector says he’s under police protection 24-7, but Uli’s biggest problem right now is how hurt he is from what she told him. Acacia swears she didn’t want to hurt him. Hector hugs her and says she was right to tell Uli. “As hard as it is, speaking the truth is the only way to move forward. It’s a catharsis.” Acacia knows, and knows she’s lost Uli forever. She has to go on alone. Hector asks her exactly what happened. She doesn’t want to talk about it. He tells her if she ever wants to talk about it, he’s here. He just asks, for the love she has for her mother, that she tell her the whole truth.

Dirty, Disheveled Dan hobbles through his lands near the brothel house and digs up a hidden safe. He removes a gun, a switchblade, and multiple stacks of US and Mexican bills, and stuffs them into his pockets and pants.

Acacia tells Hector that she can’t tell Cris. She wouldn’t even know where to begin and she doesn’t want to hurt her. Hector thinks a mother’s love can overcome anything. Acacia needs to trust in that.
A: Do you think my mother can forgive me?
H: The only way to heal wounds is to open them, and drain everything from inside.
He feels this is the only way she’ll be able to heal her soul. He knows she didn’t do it out of malice, but because she was confused and Este took advantage. Acacia admits that she’s not just afraid of hurting Cris, but of losing Cris’ love. Hector assures her that all the family and friends surrounding them will be there to support Cris. He knows she’ll do the right thing. He kisses her forehead and leaves. Acacia asks herself, “How can she forgive me, if I can’t even forgive myself?”

Alejandra and German have just wrapped up speaking to Andres about some mysterious thing they want to do for Lizzy. I’m assuming it has something to do with medical care for her sick mother. Andres thinks it’s wonderful what they’re doing. Ale tells German she’s headed out to meet the girls at Dan’s old place. German rightly does not feel comfortable with this. Ale explains that they want to do a sort of farewell to their old life. German insists on going with her. It’s just what she was going to ask him. Smooches.

The police and Hector put pressure on Rubio to admit he’s Este accomplice and to tell them where he was all afternoon yesterday after he was released. He swears he was in the cantina all day, and that he’s no one’s accomplice. As soon as he knows anything, he’ll tell them. Hector reminds him that he’s been warned. As soon as Hector and the police leave, Rubio gets a call from Este. He tells Este that he has to see him.

Perla, Julianita, and some of the other girls are in the overturned living room of the old brothel. Julianita says it’s giving her chills being there and wants to get out of there ASAP. Perla is all bravado, and mocks that Dan isn’t there and doesn’t know. Dan, meanwhile, is hiding behind an upright piece of furniture near the entrance and hears all. Ale and German arrive, and it’s girly screams and hugs from everyone. Ale says she has a lot to tell them, and J-nita tells German she’s always found him to be super hot. The other girls joke and remind her that he’s Ale’s boyfriend. Perla is happy to see them together, and asks German if he knows all Ale did for him. “I know. That’s why I love her even more.” They smooch to the delight of all the girls, and the consternation of Dan. Perla comments on love, and J-nita reminds her that she’s in love too—with Memo. Dan soon learns that he’s been betrayed even more than he thought and Memo is alive. Perla is hopeful that he’ll be out of jail soon. She vows the girls to secrecy about Memo’s status amongst the living. German gets a bad feeling and decides to go outside to investigate.

Luisa and Arturo chat about Ale and German getting married and going to Spain. They have promised to be there for the baby even from Spain. “Of course! They’re his/her aunt and uncle.” They then talk about Ulises and Acacia, and neither can understand what’s going on with them. Ulises doesn’t want to be a co-godparent of the baby with Acacia, and even seemed angry about it. Luisa doesn’t know anything either. Acacia doesn’t want to talk about it either.

Juli begs Norberto to let her come back to the house. She doesn’t know how to work, and she can’t go back home to her parents—it would kill them. Norb says she and her mother are the same. The only thing important to them are appearances. He wonders what she will say when Juli goes back to them without a single peso? Juli cries and begs some more. She says they’ll try to save their marriage one last time. Norb says they no longer have anything in common. She begs for one more opportunity. He says fine, he’ll take her back. But under one condition.

The girls have packed up some stuff, and speak about all the bad memories Danilo caused. Perla unleashes a string of insults about Danilo, and makes fun of him for believing she was dying of love for him. Their laughter is cut short when the loveseat propped up near the entrance falls, and Dan appears pointing a pistol at them! He fires off a shot. (Where the heck is German?) The girls scream and most drop to the ground. Ale and Perla, unfortunately, are right in Dan’s line of fire. Perla puts Ale behind her protectively. Dan says what a nice surprise it is to see them. “I came for my money, and look what I found.” He accuses Perla of snitching to the police and being unfaithful to him with Memo. Perla tries to plead with him. “You betrayed me, Perla, and now you will regret ever being born! All of you! All of you will regret it!” He starts to wave the gun around, taking turns pointing it at each cowering girl. Ale rushes him and grabs his arm, pushing his arm up and a shot into the ceiling. He grabs Ale into a choke hold, and tells her he’s going to wait until the little painter comes back.

Juli grovels and kisses Norb’s be-jeweled hand, and says she’ll do anything he asks. She’ll be the best, most loving, affectionate wife. That’s not what Norb intended to request. “Well, what do you want?” He wants her to attend German’s wedding.
J: What? You want me to accept the shop girl as a daughter-in-law?!
N: No, no, no. German is no longer going to marry Lizzy, but instead, Alejandra.
J: You’re joking, right?
N: No. I’m serious. I’m truly happy that my son is going to marry a woman who really loves him. Not like me.
J: I will NEVER let my son marry a WHORE! I’d rather die! How could you think that a street walker could end up with all of OUR fortune?
Norb points out that the only person here who has sold themselves willingly is her. He tells her to get out and never come back. She’s never going to change. He already knows who he’s going to make his future with, and it sure as heck isn’t with her. Juli can’t resist tossing a chair on her way out.

Ale promises Dan that they won’t say anything if he just leaves. He taunts her by saying neither she nor her little painter will make it to the altar. Taking a gamble that he is still incapable of killing her, Ale holds his gun hand to her temple and screams like madwoman for him to kill her! Then she just starts screaming like a madwoman, period, and all the other girls join her. Dan freaks out, and German finally hears the commotion and starts running back to the house. While Dan is overcome with their banshee screams, Ale manages to escape his grasp. He pulls out his switchblade in his free hand and threatens them with both weapons. He says they are all his women and all stupid. He’s going to kill them all! The women all scream. One of the girls closest to him grabs his feet and throws Dan off balance. He falls and Perla jumps on top of him, and starts smacking him around. Julianita smashes a vase over his head. Someone kicks his side. Ale stabs him in the groin with his switch blade. The other girls descend on him with their stilettos, nails and fists and anything else around, and beat him senseless. Ale watches in horror the bloodthirsty frenzy.

Rubio reports to Este that Cris tried to get info out of him but he kept quiet. He hasn’t hardly seen Acacia because she stays locked in all day. And the only person who visits is that lawyer guy, Hector. Este is unconcerned. Hector can have Cris. He gives Rubio a letter to give Acacia—leave it in her room and make sure no one sees.

Ale screams at the girls to STOP! German comes in and also gets them to calm down and walk away from the bloody, beaten body. Dan begs for help and coughs up blood, and Perla tells him he can rot in hell.

Luisa tries to get the truth out of Acacia. Acacia tells her that even though Luisa considers her a sister, after she learns the truth, she may never want to see her again. She tells Luisa that if Art’s family wants her to distance herself from Acacia, then she should do it. In fact, Acacia might distance herself from everyone. Luisa tells her she’s scaring her. She begs Acacia to tell her what’s going on. She might be able to help. Acacia says no one can help her. Luisa says she’s her friend, and she will never leave her alone. She hugs Acacia and leaves. Acacia pulls out a box of the keepsakes from Esteban—the letters, cards, necklace, and wind chimes—and puts it on her bed.

Cris goes over the accounts and bills in the office/den and looks extremely worried. Helena brings her tea. She offers Cris her and JC’s money, but Cris refuses. It’s her fault she’s in this mess—she went against her instinct that told her something wasn’t right with this deal. She’s paying the consequences, but Acacia is paying the biggest consequence. Now Acacia’s inheritance is at risk and it’s my fault, Cris says. Elena thinks Cris is being too hard on herself. She’s a good mother, and she was an excellent wife. It was Esteban who didn’t know how to value her. “When Alonso died, you also thought you couldn’t go on. But you moved forward. This time won’t be the exception. And don’t you start thinking that all men are bad. You have the example of your papa…and Hector.” Cris stops her. She knows where Elena is trying to go with this. Cris says the last thing she’s thinking about is having another man at her side. Now she realizes that it was a mistake to rely on Esteban. She should have taken the reins of the hacienda all by herself instead of trusting Esteban and losing sight of everything. “But I won’t let that happen again. I’m going to learn to be alone. To be happy with myself, and to not let my happiness rely on anyone else!” Elena can’t help but let a little smile escape after hearing her daughter’s I am woman, hear me roar, speech.

Half dead Dan is strapped to the ambulance gurney and calls out to Ale, his Chiquita, and tells her he loves her. Ale is horrified, and German holds her close to him and kisses the top of her head. Dan is wheeled away and German hands the gun to the cops. Ale says to the girls that she used to be scared of him, but all she feels for him now is pity. Perla hugs her tight and says he’ll never be able to hurt them again. German takes Ale into his arms and says now they are free.

In the prison infirmary, Dan wakes up in pain as a nurse writes notes. He tells Dan not to move around too much. An artery was cut, and the wound he had left certain consequences. What consequences, Dan wants to know. The nurse explains that artery takes blood to the genitals…well, what’s important is that they saved his life. The nurse spells it out a bit more—Dan will never again be able to function like a man. Little Dan didn’t make it. Ahhh, poetic justice!

Cris comes into Acacia’s room to apologize to her for losing a big portion of her inheritance. She knows it was her fault for trusting blindly in Esteban.
A: No, it wasn’t you fault, Mama. The fault is mine and no one else’s.
C: Why do you say that?
A: Esteban wanted that money to run off with me.
C: Don’t blame yourself anymore for things that aren’t your fault. You have to focus and overcoming what he did to you.
C: You don’t understand! Why do you think that I can’t get back together with Ulises?
C: Let time heal your wound. Soon you will see…
Cris sees the items on the bed and asks about them.
A: They’re the things Esteban gave me. I decided to keep them to use as evidence against him. But they are only proof of MY sin.
C: What are you talking about?
A: Yes, Mama. I accepted the love of Esteban.

Avances: It’s the grand finale! Este tries to nab Acacia. He takes Cris by gunpoint. Este and Norberto have a Wild West showdown.

I absolutely LOVVVVE that it was the women who brought Damnilo down and the consequences of their attack! Poetic justice, indeed!

Thanks so much , Vivi, for this recap and all the others that you have so faithfully provided. You are a super woman, and Mads would be so proud and appreciative for carrying on what she started. Later.

Vivi, I've run out of nouns, adjectives & adverbs. Thank you

(Delusional much?)

(Who knew the local cantina owner/prostitute pusher also had a sense of decorum?)

"Little Dan didn’t make it."

I was screaming kill him at the top of my lungs as the girls beat and clawed. I'm disappointed they didn't. Also, disappointed Univision cut this thing because Dan's comeuppance seemed anti-climatic.

"Cris says the last thing she’s thinking about it having another man at her side." Please stick to this Cris, for awhile at least.

Maybe Ulis will regain some self respect now and not pursue Acacia anymore. Kinda weirded me out when he went in for a kiss just days after Manuels death.

Best line, Norb telling Juli she was the only one that willingly sold herself.

Rubio continues to be loyal to Esteban, why? Only for the money he gave him?

Uli, Hector and now Cris all incapable, initially, to comprehend what Acacia tries to tell them.

Vivi, there aren't enough superlatives to aptly describe your recap. Quintessential does not do it justice.

You brought everything to life in vivid, living color through your extraordinary vision and heart.
"German tells Ale he doesn’t want to be separated from her one second more, while giving me, uhm…her a seductive look" and "Realizing he might need to invest in a new son-in-law, JC leaves them alone" were splendid among too many numerous to count gems.

I'm spellbound by the talent of the writers and the charisma of the actors. I think they've manipulated me masterfully. I held Acacia in contempt for her treachery. How could I be so firm in my belief she did not deserve redemption a week ago but yet cringeed as Uli uttered the words I wanted him to say?? Now that Acacia has spoken the words she accepted her love, why is my heart sinking at what Cris will say?

The one thing I'm not clear on is if Uli knows Ale and Este did not sleep together? I've said all along that their emotional relationship was betrayal and still believe that but think it would have been even worse if they had sleep together. I'm not convinced Uli will take her back. Itzel, maybe there is still hope for you?

When German took his rosary beads off and wrapped them around Ale's wrist, my heart melted and the tears started. I could not be happier!

And Cris. "With everything that Esteban did, I feel like my soul left with him.” She hugs her mama for comfort". Yet, even with her heart broken, her spirit was far from crushed as she vowed to survive and continue to be the strong, independent woman she is. I have to say here that Victoria Ruffo's excellent acting has been overshadowed by others. But her low key approach and various emotions were pitch perfect. I've always liked her, even more so now.

With Dan popping out and surprising the women, I thought Perla was definitely going to meet her end. When she stood in front of Ale to protect her, it was evident she is a changed woman.

Norberto is morphing right in front of our eyes with the promise of a rationale man who can forgive and love. Juli is a hopeless cause. Adios.

Poor JC and Elena. The look on Elena's face sent chills down my spine. I don't know if they will be able to take Acacia's confession??

And Dan. A fitting end and anon, yes, poetic justice that it was the women he'd abused most who brought about his downfall.

And Susanlynn, I had the same thought. Vivi, you have honored Madelaine by your dedication and careful crafting of your summaries. I know she is smiling today.

More to say after I continue to absorb this stellar recap.

Diana

Norb seems to have gotten a heart, a soul, and some ethics, while Juli Sr. Continuesto rant, rave, demand, and blame others. Has Juli Jr just won the grand prize of Norb and his hacienda? Julijr..come on down !!!!!

For me, it matters little Acacia and Esteban didn't go all the way. If they had not been in her room, when both were nearly disrobed, that ship would have sailed. Ulis demanded to know if she loved Esteban or him and thrown off when it appeared she wavered. I understand a young man and his ego, however. Does she love Esteban, even now, is what matters and will be the most damning for Cris. Sex is sex. Ask German & Ale

Thanks for the great comments already, everyone. I just loved Dan's downfall at the hands of his girls, who he always thought weak and stupid. And giggled at the consequences. :)

The rosary engagement bracelet was perfect, because Ale is a very religious person, something that German knows.

I too felt for Acacia as Uli said the things we had all been thinking. But it was totally understandable. Especially learning that she was happily being romances by Este while he was kidnapped and thinking of nothing but her. That has got to hurt.

I just wonder if Acacia will ever disclose she was eyeballing Esteban even before Ulis was kidnapped?

I don't want Acacia and Uli to end up together. Sure, partly she doesn't deserve him, but more so, with her he now becomes boyishly stupid.
He's not boyishly stupid in his natural habitat.

Awesome recap as usual; your one liners are spot on!

My favorite line: Little Dan didn’t make it.

Tofie- Love makes us stupid. Ask Cris. She certainly feels that way right now.

The thing is, Acacia and Uli are likely going to be in the same family and friends circle forever. As mad as he is, and however Cris reacts, I don't see either of them telling other people (other than Hector and the abuelos) what Acacia did and why they are ticked off at her. So Luisa and Ale will continue to want her in their lives and the lives of their children. And then men they are married to happen to be Uli's brothers. Even if they don't get back together, Uli and Acacia have to find a way to be at peace with their past together.

tofie, I didn't realize Aacaia hesitated when Uli asked the question who she loved.

I can't believe she actually has any lingering feelings but...that thought is very disturbing.

Diana

I think that Uli is going to forgive Ack and take her back because he values Hector's advice . I still do not think that Ack should get her happily ever after. She is spinning this whole deal. She should be on her own for awhile to really think about what happened and her part in it. You can't just do it because you want it, especially at the cost of people you supposedly love. Norb got a heart, the girls got courage, but Ack needs to keep on her quest for a brain. Wow...Lizzy gave up Big Sexy...talk about compassion and valor.

I noticed that Uli was back to calling Ack ''Bonita'' again before she dropped the truth about returning Este's desire. Get thee to a nunnery, Ack , or perhaps a long trek in the wilderness like the woman in Wild.

P.s. Question on my mind..Why would Estupido keep that note that Uli sent Ack? Very dumb.He should have destroyed it. I cannot think of any good reason to hang on to it.

One more episode. Is the murderer of Alonso going to remain hidden or will either Rubio or Estealreadydead going to reveal that important fact.

So..Este decides to return to the hacienda for Ack. Hmmm...going back to the scene of the crime did not turn out well for Dan. Wishing the same for you, Estecrazy.

Vivi in DC, you have provided yet another wonderful moment that we can savor in this wonderful TN of ours.

There are so many emotional moments here that will linger with us for some time. The first being that our beloved Madelaine saw in this story something we NEEDED to see and experience.

How we miss you dear Madelaine.

"Realizing he might need to invest in a new son-in-law, JC leaves them alone. " I am DYING laughing at this line, Vivi!

I know this sounds so very crazy, but Uli's reaction to Acacia's truth really and truly brought home to me just what Acacia did/has done. It's not like I didn't know what she did, but seeing and hearing someone react to what she did really hit home. I think the actor handled this scene very well.

Kudos, HUGE kudos to the writers/director for not letting the most horrible villain end up in jail with the "usual" ending. The writers had the COURAGE to show the STRENGTH of the women who had been abused over and over again. What a powerful scene! I don't think I moved a muscle during that entire scene.

The writers had the strength to write such a beautiful love story with Ale and German.

Most importantly, we see two so very strong women, Cris and Ale, who WILL survive.

Please forgive me for being such a broken record, but when I see the horrible mess that La Gata has become and we have this beautiful story torn to shreds and stuck in a difficult time slot, it still upsets me.

Vivi in DC, we will NEVER forget the lengths you went to make sure we could savor every moment. We will be forever grateful to you.

Tomorrow is truly another day, isn't it?

Fatima...who has canceled all activities for Saturday morning to be able to "speak" to everyone in our little group and to be able to discuss this TN 'til the cows come home.

Fatima..yes, Ale and Cris are great role models...strong women....I can hear Gloria Gaynor singing out loud and strong right now ''I will survive'' I wonder if Mads would have given us that earworm.

I loved German taking the rosary and wrapping it around Ale's wrist...very symbolic...almost a blessing. Sometimes in the future could he reset the diamond in that heirloom ring for her or tuck it away for a daughter?

Uli should go to Chile and get away from this craziness. He was gonna do it before, so go. German & Ale are. Can you imagine how free the two of them will be in Spain, forging a new life without the reminders.

It's funny how Juli keeps running around whining about how she doesn't know how to work, when we have so many examples of women who dusted themselves off and did just that when needed. Cris learned how to run a hacienda after Al died. Ale, with no work experience other than prostitution, became a dynamic duo with German in the Ag Association, keeping that place running while Norb and Este were absorbed in their personal dramas. All the girls since they got free of Dan are doing things like waitressing. Perla is trying to start up a business. None of them are complaining. The only ho complaining is Juli Sr.

I just watched last night's episode. Hub was sitting at the dfiningroom table working in his laptop when the halabaloo in the bordello broke out . Hub jumped up to check out what was happening on the screen.

It looks like gunfight at the OK Corral tonight. Who will remain standing , or are both Norb and Este goners ? Who ever suspected that Norb would emerge as an avenger?

Rubio is still the wild card . Will Este confess to killing Alonso or will Rubio share this secret.

Tofie- Yeah, Ale and German are going to have such a great time in Spain. Free from psycho pimps and harpy mamas. Young and hot. And in love.

Tofie...as soon as German was given the opportunity to go to Spain for his career, I knew that he and Ale would be going there to start a new life. Best thing for Ale.

Susanlynn, yes, Este keeping Uli's note to Acacia was Esteloco as you would say :)

I am hoping Norberto survives tonight's shootout.

tofie, as Uli's life is intertwined with Acacia's (as Vivi pointed out earlier), if he can's/doesn't forgive Acacia, maybe Ale and German should bring him along to Spain. That said, he has a solid, loving support system with Arturo, Carmen, Andres and Hector, all of whom would greatly miss him.

Diana

Fatima, I totally concur with all of your thoughtful comments concerning the writing.

I am beyond thrilled that German and Ale will be together, starting a new life. We know they will be so happy together!

"Please forgive me for being such a broken record, but when I see the horrible mess that La Gata has become and we have this beautiful story torn to shreds and stuck in a difficult time slot, it still upsets me."

You are NOT a broken record. You are making a valid point and I can't think of one person reading this who would disagree!

Diana

Theses six young people will be forever bonded by the shared experience of this traumatic and tumultuous period in their lives. In addition to the familial, marital, and friendship ties they already have. If Acacia a Uli can find peace with each other, it really could be quite a lovely friends and family group Ale, German, Uli, Art, Luisa, and Acacia could form. Just think of all the ways they have been there for each other and supported each other.

Fatima...I cannot even watch LA Gata anymore even to see mi telenovio Marcelo. It has run off the tracks just like CI. The only thing that kept me watching CI were Carlos's photos and hilarious captions.

Can you bimagine German and Ale discovering the beauty of Spain together? The writers were brilliant to come up with this idea. They won't even have to learn a new language, but they can easily travel to Other European countries, so we can think of them strolling the streets of Paris, sharing a coffee at a sidewalk cafe, and enjoying a meal at a little by rattle is in Florence before touring the Uffizi.

Rattle...should be tratorria.

Susanlynn- It is a far more interesting happily ever after than we typically see for young couples at the end of a tn. Heck, I want to go with them and join the art scene in Spain!

Uli could forgive and still move away. I think he does himself a disservice if he doesn't. He is not afraid of work or risk and should be wildly successful, alone or with a partner. However, his choice of partner could make him better than he is alone or become a weight around his neck. Acacia brings nothing to the table and has proven in a pinch, fickle at best and has sacrificed nothing. Why would an adult counsel, as does Hector, a young intelligent man or woman so unwisely, when they have this information at their disposal? Heck, Lizzy would be a much better partner for Uli if I was hell bent on match making.

Tofie- Absolutely, Uli can forgive and leave. I'm not pushing a coupling between him and Acacia. Just that they need to be at peace with each other for the sake of their future interactions with their mutual friends and family. I hope he continues with his Chile plans because they sound great. Acacia needs to go to college, just as planned, and grow up some more.

Vivi, I've been smiling at your fantastic title and I think this is one of your best yet.

Diana

Susanlynn, the writers did have a brilliant plan as you pointed out for Ale and German, didn't they? I am so excited at the prospect for their future happiness and in such a wonderful setting.

And you are right Vivi, I can't recall any couple who has such a marvelous destination and future to look forward to.

And I can't think of another couple who deserve it more.

Diana

Well let's see now. Acacia has gone from see thru micro dresses with no panties to floor length long sleeve dresses. Who is she trying to fool.? Too bad old Dan doesnt still have the ho-house as Acacia has zero other skills. He could have put her to work. She and Esteloco could even still seen each other.:-)

Diana- Glad to see someone got the joke in the title. :)

Vivi, it was splendid.

Diana

As we roll to the finish line I want to thank our awesome recappers especially Vivi, who is a master of her craft. Thank you so much. For months I stopped watching and relied on your detailed recaps and that was more than enough for me until I watched again. Indeed, who will be left standing? Let me tell you there are 3 finales so depending on which one airs you will not believe it until you see it. Each one has its own shock. Stay tuned
Romy

And Ale can continue to be German's muse. I envisdion him painting many more beautiful portraits of her.

As to clothing choices, Ack should have covered up a lot sooner. Too late now for those long, modest, black dresses.

Hmmm...three finales...

Romy, THREE finales??

OK, now I'm worried...

Diana

Uni always tends to choose the ending Mexico used, although other countries sometimes choose one of the other alternative endings. Yes, for this tn there are four endings- the one shown on Mexican tv, and three others that were available online.

Vivi, I’m wondering how many hours it took you to do this recap for us. All the missing scenes! All the carefully detailed dialog! It’s a masterpiece, and I’m grateful for every word.

I about fell off my chair at “Little Dan didn’t make it”. Hilarious! And there were so many other wonderful funny bits and astute observations.

All the missing scenes sound wonderful. Why oh why couldn’t we see them? Plus we had 35 minutes of uninterrupted show, so Univision lost out on some advertising $$. It just doesn’t make sense, all this cutting.

I thought for sure Perla was going to be shot, but when Dan got his beatdown, I was laughing. I sure didn’t expect to be laughing during this penultimate episode. I was surprised the writers let him survive. Well, he who lives by the sword dies by the sword… giving “sword” another meaning here – ha!

I’m wondering what’s going to happen with Ulysses. It would have made for a much stronger story if Acacia and Este had done the deed, so why was she being kept so pure by the writers?

A thought: it’s nice to have household help. You can throw things around and break them when you’re mad and not have to clean up afterwards.

Another thought: anything that makes Ale happy makes me happy. Sigh. Wonderful scenes!

Vivi, another stellar recap. I so look forward to your recaps after watching the mish-mash edited mess. Thank you again.

Telenovela justice at its best. Love it! Almost-Death by prostitutes - and left impotent, no less. I still would have preferred his death. He had it coming.

I agree with everyone here -- Acacia shouldn't end up with Uli. He deserves much more. Loved the scenes with German and Ale. So touching.

Can't wait for tonight finale. This has turned out to be a great one. I'm glad Ruffo held back on her crying jags in this one. Those drove me crazy in previous TNs.

I look forward to hearing about the other endings once this one has aired.

Maggie- LOL! I was also thinking of poor Rosa and Luisa having to clean up all that broken glass everyone was smashing. My goodness. I did cheer on Cris though as she let out a little steam and smashed the den/office up. She deserved to get some of that out.

Vivi, Best title ever! Thank you for the detailed, vivid, and snarkilicious recap and the vocab. My favorites:

I know I should not laugh at this, but…Norberto drags Juli to the curb and throws her out. I was laughing too, and German handing his mom her purse was too much.

Realizing he might need to invest in a new son-in-law, JC leaves them [Hector and Cris] alone. – lol

And last but not least: Little Dan didn’t make it. Ahhh, poetic justice!

I am going to so miss the recaps. Vivi, Gloria, Diana, simply superb work that would have delighted Madelaine. I have so enjoyed watching this excellent show with all of you and reading all the comments.

Favorite scenes: The dumbfounded look on Juan Carlos’ face at the news Este was macking on Acacia and, of course, the ladies’ free-for-all takedown of Dan.

Seeing Uli reject Acacia never gets old with me. Acacia showed growth to admit the truth to Uli that she reciprocated Este’s feelings, but still there’s no reason for Uli to take her back. I agree they can become friends one day as co-godparents though. Uli needs to wipe his love slate clean and move on, hopefully to Itzel. From Acacia’s look, I take it that she hates herself for still being attracted to Este. And let us not forget that she married Manuel to keep herself away from Este. If she had the will to break with Este without the extra help of getting with Manuel, maybe I would feel differently about her getting back with Uli.

Unfortunately, Cris is a mom and has to forgive her 18-19 year old. I’m wondering if Acacia will own up to some resentment of her mother. I just don’t see how Acacia could keep kissing and rubbing up on Este without some of that being her resentment of Cris. Nobody is perfect, but letting her daughter live with her grandparents from age 9, while she and Esteban lived a 10-year honeymoon alone wasn’t good. Yes, Cris talked on the phone with Acacia all the time and visited alone every week, but she literally let Acacia have the reins of their relationship by giving in to her refusal to live with her and Este. Though I bring this up in trying to understand Acacia's actions, I hope Cris doesn't beat herself up about it.

Niecie- So glad you enjoyed so much of the recap.

Yes, Cris is already beating herself up for not putting Acacia first last time, and not listening to her about Esteban. Yeah, she may not have made the best choice, but frankly at the time I don't think she had a whole lot of great choices. She made the best choice in that moment. Unfortunately, Acacia was stubborn enough to stretch the situation out 10 years. I'm sure Cris never expected it to last that long. I'm not hard on Cris about this. It's not like she abandoned Acacia in an orphanage or with strangers. And she certainly didn't close her doors to her either. I don't begrudge anyone the hard choices they have to make when they have a difficult child. Cris did what she thought was best for Acacia's and her peace of mind at the time. However, I can totally understand Acacia having some resentment about it (but not enough to get involved with her aama's man!).

Thank you so very much for these two fabulous recaps and filling in the cut scenes, Vivi! Love the title!

I'm so happy German and Alejandra are finally together! The reconciliation and proposal were truly romantic. I loved how German used his rosary to propose and promised Ale a more spectacular re-proposal in the future. I wonder what they are going to do for Lizzy?

I wish Uni had shown the whole scene of Norbie kicking Juliana out of the finca. She got what she deserved. Even Andres had no sympathy for her. The icing on the cake was her reaction to German marrying Alejandra.

Anybody remember I said Dan's comeuppance was going to be good? Haha. Even though I saw the spoiler seeing it all over again was just as enjoyable. My favorite part was when Julianita smashed a vase over his head and then screamed. The whole time I was like "Where is German?". Luckily he wasn't too far away from the house. The best part was seeing Dan find out that he lost his manhood.

Can't wait until tonight!

TF- I too wondered, where is German, during the conflict scene with Dan. But then I thought, no, this is between Dan and these women he abused. They've got this. It was important that they took him down by themselves and didn't need a hero/man to help them. Actually, Dan should be grateful that German showed up, because they would have killed him otherwise!

Yes Vivi. Dan would've been reduced to a pulp had German not arrived. Those girls turned into fieras. Dan got a punishment worse than death anyway plus years in prison. I was glad to see all the girls finally defend themselves. The girl that grabbed his leg and threw him off balance was brave.

WOW!!! Vivi, I'm going to join the chorus by saying that Madelaine would be proud of the LM recap team. You guys are GREAT!
What a job Vivi---above and beyond each time. Words just can't express my appreciation.

Before I start, something came up yesterday unexpected that took all afternoon so I couldn't get back to post again.

But now for today---Three things maybe not important.---#1 Did anyone notice the engagement/wedding ring on Acacia's finger in one of those hugging scenes? I don't remember which scene.

#2 A lot of cell phones in use lately. Did they bring a charger?
I've never seen one. Dan in the hotel with nothing but a cell phone and whisky. Charger anyone?

#3 German hears the ladies screaming and yelling and turns around to go back but the gun shot came first. He didn't hear that?

The gringo joins the patio crowd with cheers as DevilDan is brought down by the woman that he owned and controlled for so long.
The writers got it right. Dan wasn't brought down from a police bullet or by a car accident while making a getaway. NO!!! He was brought down by the women that he abused. Nothing could have been better. Oh yes, it did get better
DevilDan lost little Dan. That was fitting and couldn't have happened to a nicer guy--NOT!!

Who got all of the money that he had on him?

Vivi---A couple of your great lines for me were---German you need to explain to me, how is it that you are going to marry this angel?

Acacia says---How can she forgive me if I can't forgive myself?

Susanlynn---Juli Jr. Come on down!
Susanlynn---How do you do it? About fifteen now? Estealreadydead

Tofie---9:09 I agree

Vivi---at 11:00 So true.

I know that I'm bad but when Norbe
thru Juli out All that I could think of was---Hit the road Juli and don't come back no more, no more, no more. Hit the road Julie and don't come back no more.

Will Este and Norbe kill each other tonight? Must see tv.
the gringo

Count Alacran/Demetrios - Are you still watching LM? I remember early on your wondering who was the worst villain, Danilo or Norberto. Who would've imagined back then than Norb would become a hero of sorts, in standing up for German.

Hey Gringo! So glad you are with us today.

The ring on Acacia's finger is the one Manuel gave her. In the scene where he tries to give her the ring and she refuses it, Uni cut the portion later when he puts it on her finger and tells her to wear it anyway, until she made up her mind (which she soon did). She's been wearing it ever since. And she is his widow.

Yes, Vivi, I agree that the writers wanted to show thatbthe victims of Dan could exact their own revenge on him with out any male help.

I really do not like the idea of multiple endings. I prefer the writers to provide their one definitive finale.

Hi, gringo. My practice of creating new names for Este was my tribute to all the Damnames we came up with for Damian while watching LA Tempestad. It was Damfun ,nand I wanted the fun to continue with Estedamned.

Gringo...I hope that the women Dan used and abused get to split that cash. That money would allow them to get new starts in life, own their own businesses, get educations.

Niecie, the one (and only) thing that's ever bothered me about Cris is that she left Acacia with her grandparents. Granted, they are wonderful people and there was no doubt she was loved. But, I would never have married a man if I had to do that. I'm not standing on high morale ground, but as the daughter of a single mother who did it all herself and who would never have put a man above us, it wouldn't have been my decision.

"Nobody is perfect, but letting her daughter live with her grandparents from age 9, while she and Esteban lived a 10-year honeymoon alone wasn’t good" really encapsulated how I feel.

Thank you.

Diana

After Ulises went off on Acacia last night I started thinking that there was still hope for Itzel and Ulises. But then, I remembered that Uli was going to work on a project in Chili. I don't know how it could or would be done but I would like to see Itzel and her Aunt or was it her Grandmother if only for a brief moment tonight.

Vivi---I liked your comment from yesterday that the doctor that went to Itzel's village just might be Dr. Hottie and a possible match for Itzel.

While I was rambling on earlier I forgot to mention that it still looks like Rubio is still trying to play both sides. Doesn't this guy know when to stop? He's playing with fire. Aiding and abetting? Don't you go to jail for that?

I would love to see three more endings after tonight's end.

What a story---what great writing
what great acting. An all time favorite for me.

German and Alejandra will be on cloud 9 in Spain starting their lives together. How perfect for these two. It couldn't end any better for them.
the gringo

gringo, you made me remember another great line that spoke volumes, Acacia's "How can she forgive me if I can't forgive myself?".

Very poignant.

Diana

Another thought: If you're in a big financial crises, don't throw your diamond ring out in a field.

Gringo - I wondered too how German couldn't hear gunshots, but could hear women screaming.

So in this tn there is a handsome galan who is an awesome artist and the love of his life is his beautiful muse. Hmmm, what can my writers do with that?

Jose Alberto Castro thinks, "I know! I'll call them German and Alejandra ... writers, have at it, but make sure you ... etc ...etc"

Nathalie LaTurd-loo thinks, "Hmm, I'll call them Pablum and Maldita Gata, but who cares about the story, I'll just make it up as I go along. What? The viewers won't like it? Who cares about them? They'll be satisfied with the eye candy I'm about to give them. It's worked before!"

Maggie...I had the same thought about the ring. It was probably gold or platinum...sell it, girl.

Although my viewing of this one could be called minimal at best, I usually watch the final couple of episodes of most TNs.

Loved the frenzied attack on Danilo and its consequences ("Little Dan didn't make it.") The women he treated so badly were the perfect instrument of justice. Your recap was great, especially the inclusion of omitted scenes.

Anon 3:52- LOL! Yes. Two very different treatments of a hot young artist and his beautiful muse.

I'm with you guys on those rings. That was a big old rock too. Rubio probably already found them and sold them. If he still thought he had a chance with Luisa, he'd give them to her.

I completely agree about Cris letting young Ack leave home and live with her grandparents. ""Ten year honeymoon''is so right on, and I am sure that Esteevil is happy to be alone on the hacienda with Cris to continuously weave his spell . At that time, a nine year old Acacia would have just cramped his style.

Vivi, I had the same thought of Rubio down on his hands and knees in that field searching for that ring. Not so easy. Hub once lost his wallet in my dad's corn field while we were picking corn.

Maggie, "Another thought: If you're in a big financial crises, don't throw your diamond ring out in a field" - still chuckling.

Diana

Maggie. Re household help. I caught that too. When Chris swept the liquor off the desk with her arm onto a tile floor then hours later or maybe the next day an identical decanter and matching glasses was refilled and on her desk.

I can't believe the finale is tonight.

I can't believe this is coming to an end.

Diana

Diana- I can't believe it either. But better for a show to end when you feel satisfied or want more, than when you're sick of it.

I will certainly miss our conversations each day. :(

Fantastic recap Vivi, as always!
You worked hard and long and didn't finish until 2.58am!! Thanks ever so much. I don't know how you did it.

Somehow Acacia telling Uli about how she responded to Este really
hit hard and will be even worse with her mother.

I just wonder if Uli could ever forget it, but more than that to ever really forgive her!

Cris throwing the rings was not very smart.

Also I get a charge out of how they throw things around in anger. I don't do that. Is that very common?? Really?? LOL!

Ann-NYC

Lucia's wedding with Willy on AC last night was the appetizer before Alejandra's wedding to German tonight. That is, if it happens. Im excited!

Corazon- Was last night the finale of the rerun of Amorcito Corazon? I think that was my favorite tn wedding. Loved the Bollywood dance number. And Africa and Dan were super cute.

Ann-NYC- I think only in tv and movies do people get to throw things around. People also slap and punch each other on tv and the movies more often than in real life, thank goodness. But that's why it's more fun to watch imaginary life. :)

Yes and it was spectacular. I enjoyed every second of it; even Manny's anti-climactic fate. I would have liked to see her and Horty knocked around by the inmates LOL.

I want to thank all the recappers for their amazing job with this novela. I bow.

Last but not least, whether Esteban scumbag lives or dies, I wonder if the link to his murder of Alonzo will be found out. If so, complete justice will be served.

I will miss you guys. What novelas are you planning to watch after LM ends? I am excited to be able to watch the show tonight at 10 instead of recording it for tomorrow.I don't have to get up early...yay.

Ann-NYC- Part of the delay last night was that my sister called me to talk about the show after it had ended, and I still hadn't finished watching the online episodes and recapping. That's ok. I have the long weekend to catch up on sleep.

Vivi, you must be exhausted after not only doing double recaps but for filling in all of the deleted scenes the past two weeks. I can't tell you how much you've added to our overall enjoyment and appreciation of this tautly written story.

Started by Madelaine, joined by Gloria and Vivi, each recap was totally different yet refreshing and savory. It was wonderful to see people joining in and to see the number of comments grow.

This ended up being the little TN that could. And did.

Diana

Susanlynn, I am currently also watching Hasta, yet more out of habit and respect for the recappers than sheer enjoyment. This started fairly strong but has stalled due to prolonged story lines that have become rather stale.

I watched Mi Corazon for months but had to drop out because I couldn't watch everything I was trying to.

The 10 time slot is way too late for me. I thought I might watch the first few episodes of the next TN (simply out of curiosity) but it doesn't even appear it will be recapped.

So, I will be on the lookout for new offerings. The wonderful thing about Caray, Caray is that we meet up with friends new and old frequently as stories end and new ones begin. This is an amazing community.

Diana

Dona Gringuita, you've posed the question we've all been debating and speculating on - will Este's murder of Alonso come to light?

Only one thing is for certain. We will know tonight!

Diana

Diana- A special thanks to you for jumping in as a first time recapper and lightening the recapping workload for me and Gloria. You are a natural at it and write beautiful, pithy prose. I hope to see you recapping again.

Vivi-I have not been following this novela because I just can't with Ruffo, but I loved how you described a room full of creaming women beating their abuser half to death, it's almost like I was in the room!

Vivi, has your sister become a tn fan ?
Diana,..''the little telenovela that could...and did''. Love it and so true. I will look for you when some new novels show up. It is always a little sad when a good story ends and everyone goes his or her own way. I am only watching LM, so I guess I will wait for a new novela. My classes begin this Monday, so I will I have less time to watch TV.

Susanlynn- My sister got hooked when she came up from Atlanta to be with me after my surgery in November. She's been watching ever since. :)

I'm not a particularly bloodthirsty person... but watching Danilo get a poetic justice beatdown was amazing

Cassandra G.

Cassandra- I think we all felt the same as you did.

With all due respect to everybody, this has been a telenovela that I (whose boundaries- I thought- were limitless) long gave up on, simply due to the blatant misogyny inherent in the story. OBVIOUSLY all women live or are subjected to serve a man, and OBVIOUSLY all men are scum-sucking pigs who wholly exist to subjugate or control/own their women. Even Juliana- the closest thing that this novela came to in terms of being a 'female antagonist'- was just a shallow, self-centered bitch, rather than anybody possessing any DEPTH per se, if you will.

And, seriously, It's been a long time since I've ever seen a telenovela without a strong-minded (for whatever reason) female villana but now, well... I can't say that anymore. This whole novela has been about women, basically, being treated like shit by some man or other, and about what they do to rise above or combat this type of behavior....

Haven't we risen above that???

Just my two thoughts. Thanks for putting up with them! :-)
