Quiero Amarte (Week 23-Feb 23) Highlights & Discussion
Whoracio thinks he will be successful in Negro's get-rich-quick scheme. He thinks it will be easy to get full custody of Vale and doesn't care how much it might cost. He thinks he's within reach of declaring himself to Juli and make her his novia.
Cesar thinks he's got Uli, Max, Mauro, Manuel and Whoracio by the short and curlies AND his mother, Lucrecia by her short and curlies. He thinks (make that, he's sure) he can wear Amaya down and make her physically his--to insure an heir to manipulate and so he, Cesar, can become "legitimate." At any rate, he thinks (make that he's sure) Amaya can never leave him.
Mauro thinks he's achieved a truce between Max and Cesar.
Lucrecia thinks she's convinced Consta to help her get rid of (as in just out of sight) Amaya as a temptation for Max (although Luce's motivation is far different).
Mariana and Ivan think they are getting married in a couple of days.
Cecy thinks Mariana and Ivan will not be getting married in a couple of days, if she has anything to do with it.
Max thinks that by moving to El P. he will be able to forget Amaya. He thinks he'll go to Mariana and Ivan's wedding first.
Consta thinks it's only a matter of time before she can attach herself permanently to Max through neediness, compliancy and a bebe. She thinks it's unfair the doctor won't let her travel to El P. with him.
Amaya thinks it's safe to go to Mariana and Ivan's wedding by herself, no Cesar and no Max.
Jorge thinks Juli should come to El P. for her health, but he's already been thinking it would be a perfect place to become a couple.
Juli thinks Whoracio thinks they are just friends. Juli thinks it's too early to be thinking about love after losing Franco and what would Alan think, even if it's Jorge?
Elo thinks Cesar is up to his nose hairs in evil plots and Lucrecia is even more dangerous than she had been thinking earlier.
Flavia thinks she's over love and romance for good and has her career at El P. all mapped out.
Uli thinks he will find Mariana on his own by having all the residents at El P. followed and tapping their phone lines. (Does this include cell phones?)

Vivi—Any chance you’d like to take on either Monday or Thursday of Week 24? I’ll switch if you can do Thursday.
I'll be leaving for NYC tomorrow afternoon, returning Thursday midnight. It's our one opera--Juan Diego Florez & Joyce DiDonato in La Donna del Lago (swoon).
Won't take laptop, so I won't be able to follow the action, read the recaps or comments till Friday at the earliest.
Tonight's recap will be up late tonight or early tomorrow.
I did not catch Friday's episode. I was chaperoning a school trip. I did catch Kelly's great recap and I am very grateful for it.
Unfortunately, this is not a show I catch every day. I watch maybe one or two eps a week, but more often than not I am not watching any eps and dependent on recaps and comments to keep me in the loop. MANY THANKS TO THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE SO ACTIVE.
Recap for Mon Feb 23 (Capitulo 108) - Pt 1
El Paraíso, over dinner – Heriberto announces that Uli’s men have them under surveillance. Chelo takes a call from Sonia and hands it to Heri. She tells him she’s too scared to stay at El Deseo and wants to leave right away because Uli suspects someone at El D. helped Mari escape. Hector takes the phone and tells her she is welcome at El P., but to wait until next week, so it won’t raise suspicion and Uli lifts the surveillance. Then she can tell Uli that one of her relatives is ill and she needs to go back to her village.
Comitán, public square – Cipriano accepts the job offer as sacristan of the church. Padre tells him that before he can have the job, he must repent all of his sins and reform. Cip doesn’t think he has done any sinning. Padre tells him he will have shelter and food, but no financial compensation. Cip questions the no money part, nothing for a drink or a couple of games of cards at the cantina? The padre throws up his hands, withdraws the offer and walks away.
Nescafé, Max’s office – Max and Juli are discussing the launch of the 3-en-1 campaign. He interrupts himself to confess to Juli that he came very close to kissing Amaya. He wanted to. He couldn’t help it. He’s not sure about Amaya, though. It was more like she provoked it. Juli just doesn’t understand her. She married Cesar, but is still trying to reconquer him? Max is puzzled, too. There’s something about Amaya that just doesn’t add up. He’s more determined than ever to get to El P. He and Juli leave for her doctor’s appointment to get the results of the tests.
Nescafé, Amaya’s office – Amaya and Caro are discussing the same thing as Max and Juli were, her confrontation and near kiss with Max. After Whoracio’s threat to take Vale away, she slipped and said to Max at the elevator that she needed to protect Vale by sending her to the States. Of course, Max caught that. Amaya knows Vale is her weak spot and she fears Lu or Cesar will discover that and use it against her, but she has to get Vale away from them whether Vale likes it or not. Staying with Whoracio is not safe enough. She’s going to get Cesar to help. Amaya got the impression Max is indifferent to her and even if she could prove later on why she did what she did, it might be too late and he will have stopped loving her.
WUN finca, Becca’s room – Mari shows Becca her wedding dress. Becca offers to iron it for her (QQWhat? Becca can hardly stand or move without the aid of a walker, she’s a guest in the house, Mari would belong to the “servidumbre” and has nothing else to do…oh, of course, plot device: Becca scorches the dress and ruins the wedding.) Mari tells her (us) that the school director is going to save her scholarship until such time as she can come back and finish.
El Deseo, Uli’s office – Efraín swears no one at El D. has had any contact with anyone at El P while it’s been under surveillance. Uli is certain someone at El D. helped Mari escape. He tells Efer to get tough to get them to talk. He gets a call from Cecy. He’s ready to listen. Cara de impactada de Uli when he realizes she knows all about the sequestration and escape, who helped them and where they are. He’s willing to deal, but wants to know who she is. She tells him she was Iván’s girlfriend at the University.
Chiapas, near the river – Lucrecia is with her investigator and some workmen to look for the spot where she’s sure she left a dead Florencia. Amaya’s photographer is seen at a short distance watching and clicking. Negro is watching the photographer. (It seems it was a chance observation at the airport. Negro was on his way to Chiapas to ruin Uli’s coffee when he saw the photographer taking pictures of Lucrecia at the airport. He thought it was strange and interesting.) He decided to follow Lucrecia and the photographer to see what she was up to. He wonders if he should call Cesar.
Prison, woodworking shop – José is confronted by some hard-timer thugs and they try to intimidate him by pushing him into a spinning saw. The big brute (Rutillio from LQNPA) that Manuel contracted to protect Jose while he is in prison steps in and breaks it up. At first Jose tries to say he doesn’t need protection, but Pericles (yes, that’s his name) says he doesn’t intend to give the money back and he’s not going to let anything happen to Jose, so, like it or not, he’ll have protection.
Outdoor Café, a table – Manuel and Geno are meeting. He catches her up on José’s case. Then he pulls out a sweet engagement ring and asks Geno to marry him. It looks as though she is considering, but then she says it’s too little, too late. Now that he’s lost Consta, José hates him, and his friends are disillusioned, Geno says to him, the little world he was juggling has collapsed. He only wants her to keep him from being alone. Manny protests that he loves her. Too bad, she says, she sees it differently. She sees herself as his consolation prize. Her final word is she loves him, for good or for bad, but she doesn’t want to marry him. She leaves him and the ring at the table.
Montesinos Mansion-somewhere private – Consta is reminiscing about how her family has fallen apart and tells her dead mother she’s glad she wasn’t around for this betrayal.
Chiapas, near the river – Work continues trying to find any evidence of Flo’s remains. They find and open the manhole. Lucrecia turns away. Negro finally decides to call Cesar. (I’m not sure he overheard Luce talking about any human remains they are looking for.) Negro gets chewed out for not following orders. Spreading the plague on Uli’s coffee was to be the priority. Then he tells him to keep watching, but above all, get the camera away from the photographer. He also tells Negro to find out who sent the photographer. Cesar calls Mommie Dearest right away and has to leave a message for Luce to call him back. It’s urgent.
El Paraiso, manager’s office – Jorge and Hector are excited about the 3-en-1 campaign and getting the coffee into production. Flavia returns from her meeting with Sal (she had that on Friday’s episode). She and Jorge talk about her catching up with her studies with Salvatore (is Yummy again) Romero. Sal was born to teach. She’s forgiven him for what he did to Max. She admits that everyone can make big mistakes. And, she’s glad to have been able to recoup a good friend. Jorge likes her and her new attitude. They tease each other about liking each other—as BIL and SIL. Flavia hopes Juli will come to El P. soon so she and Jorge can give themselves a chance.
WUN finca, an office – Cecy quizzes Mari on Ivan’s whereabouts. She sounds a bit snippy, but she sits down and very condescendingly tells Mari she wants Mari and Iván to have a week off—on her. (Yeah, one which she knows darn well she won’t have to shell out a single peso for, if Uli’s plans succeed. Of course we don’t know what they are yet.)
WUN finca, a pasture – Iván and Tadeo make their peace, once Tad understands Iván is not after Cecy and is in love with and will be marrying Mariana. When Ivan learns Tad is interested in Cecy, he urges him to keep fighting for her, the way he did with Mari. Tad feels he’s invisible to her. (He is, poor sap.)
Comitán, public plaza – Cip is still in the plaza, rummaging through the garbage cans for anything, preferably bottles with alcohol in them. Bar Owner Guy sees him and wants to know what he’s doing. Cip says he needs a drink, he’s shaking, or something to eat, or somewhere to stay. BOG blows him off because of what he did to Mari. BOG concedes, in the end. He doesn’t want Cip’s fate on his conscience and offers to let him sleep in the servants’ quarters. He can mop the cantina and clear tables at night for no pay, but can keep tips. Cip would rather be the cashier. BOG laughs it off—in his dreams. If he robs him, gambles, or drinks, that’s it, he’s through. He can take it or leave it. (Cip shrugs his shoulders and there are no more scenes with him, so we aren’t sure he accepted.)
El Deseo, on the grounds near the house – Uli wants 8 men and two vehicles for Friday. (Hmm, now we know he’s planning an assault on the WUN finca.) Efer is with him to make the arrangements. Uli doesn’t want them to come to his place. They’ll meet them on the highway. Oh, and he wants the surveillance to continue, but there’s no longer a need to tap the phones. He knows what he needed to know.
Nescafé, Mauro’s office – Mauro is trying to cheer Geno up, trying to point out the advantages to marrying Manuel. Geno isn’t having any of it. Geno tearfully tells Mauro she doesn’t know what is to become of her life. Mauro gives her a big teddy bear hug.
Montesinos Mansion, in the garden – Consta and Elo are chatting. Consta has been wondering about José, wanting to know more about him and his life. Elo counsels that neither she nor José should shoulder the blame for what Manny did. Elo urges Consta to go see José, even if it’s in prison. Lucio is at the therapist’s (and is shown doing very well), so why don’t they go right away. Consta agrees.
Doctor’s office – Juli and Max get the test results for Juli’s depression-like state. The doc tells her there are elevated traces of mercury in her system. Exposure to mercury produces similar symptoms to the ones she is experiencing. Max says that is not possible, she hasn’t been exposed to any mercury. (Dang it Max, you shouldn’t butt in so fast. They should consider taking the time to investigate thoroughly, everywhere Juli goes daily.) But, the doc listens to Max and concludes Juli is suffering from something emotional. He writes her some prescriptions for medicine and to follow the directions for about six months.
Prison, a visitor’s room – Elo and Consta talk while waiting for José to be brought in. When he sees who it is, he doesn’t want to stay, but Elo persuades him. He agrees and she leaves them alone.
Manuel’s house – Mauro comes to see Manny. He’s been a recluse since his disastrous lunch with Geno. Mauro has come to rescue his friend—the one who rescued him over 30 years ago. Manny now regrets never having told Mauro about his relationship with Genoveva. He was afraid Mauro would reject him, judge him. True, he might not have approved or been in agreement, but he would have respected his decision. Manny feels he’s lost everything, he has no motivation for doing anything. Mauro reminds him he has him, he has two children, a woman who loves him, and a grandchild on the way. The two men get up and give each other big bro-hugs. (Really nice to see that.)
Prison, a visitor’s room – Consta and José begin a heart-to-heart talk. Consta wants to know what his mother said when he would ask who his father was. Jose said she would go crazy and say some other time she’d tell him. Now, he would rather not have known. He would have preferred continuing to think his father had abandoned them. Consta says his mother should never have gotten involved with a married man. Jose comes right back with her father should never have gotten involved with his mother. In all of this, he says, Consta had the benefit of a father, mother, a family, while he had nothing, no father, no recognition, no money, nothing.
Nescafé, César’s office – Amaya comes in to ask for Cesar’s help with Whoracio over Vale. She wants to show him that she is more powerful than he is and she has Cesar’s support to show him who is boss. Cesar is agreeable, but in return, he would like for her to be a little more loving and responsive to him. Amaya recoils at the thought, but Vale is more important to her. Once she agrees, Cesar tries to put the moves on her right then and there. He would have forced the issue, except he got a phone call which Amaya insisted he answer. It was Mommie Dearest, returning his call from Chiapas. She’s spooked—no remains were found. Cesar loses his composure long enough to say out loud, they found no remains? Amaya hears that. Freeze frame on her face.
I'm a little worried because right before the freeze frame that ended the episode, Cesar had this look like "hey what's Amaya's deal? It's like she knows what remains I'm talking about." I'm hoping I'm misinterpreting.
"The doc tells her there are elevated traces of mercury in her system." I'm afraid I must have made this up. The good doc only said that her symptoms were similar to what one would have if one were exposed to mercury. That's when Max jumps in.
Sorry.
Couldn't help but notice that Cip and Jose are cut from the same ungrateful cloth. Unable to see their own faults, and turning down the help that's offered to them because it's not offered on their own terms. I laughed out loud when Jose said to his paid bodyguard that her could take care of himself. Ha!
I also laughed at the look of surprise and disgust on Ceci's face when Mari hugged her when she offered her and Ivan the paid honeymoon. I am so not looking forward to "Friday" and whatever Ceci and Uli are planning.
Kind of easy for Hector to tell Sonia to just chill for a week, when he's not the one living under the same roof as a psychopath and a bunch of his armed henchmen!
I seldom want to say this, but...shut up, Max! Let the doctor keep going with his mercury theory.
I thought Cesar was just as spooked as Luce and that is what was registering on his face at the very end. We'll see tomorrow. Well, you folks will see tomorrow. I won't see till Friday.
I guess I made it up too! I guess it must have popped into my head while watching the scene because we all know what's going in.
I couldn't believe Cip with the priest. He was shocked he wouldn't be getting a salary to spend on booze and gambling. Just a roof and three squares? Bah! Not enough.
We've heard her tell Cecy she wants to see her with her son.
I guess this is also a wait and see.
Also, I'll be wondering if Cip takes the Bar job. I bet he does over Padre's, because he can be IN the cantina and probably beg for drinks. But if not drinking is one of the conditions BOG gave him, he can't if he wants a roof over his head. BOG didn't offer meals. I'd take Padre's job if I were Cip!
And I agree, Sara, Cesar is pretty sharp and seemed to have a light bulb go off when he looked at Amaya! It would be quite a leap for him to suspect Amaya knows something, wouldn't it? If he does suspect her that will be a HUGE problem for her.
Oh, the exciting and frustrating possibilities!
Uli will rape Mariana!
If Uli rapes Mariana I cannot image how FURIOUS I will be! It will far surpass my reaction to Amaya's marriage to Cesar! Please, let it NOT happen!
I certainly hope there is no sexual assault in store for Mariana. This producer does not shy away from this (see Amor Bravio). I just hope there is so much chaos on the way to the wedding that Mari manages to hide, get away, run into the church, whatever.
OK, train time.
Steve I am really hoping that's conjecture. I never know who has seen what. :-/
Anybody ever see "The Bad Seed"? with Nancy Kelly and Patty McCormack who played the little girl with the sweet façade who was pathological liar and murderer? I am reminded of this movie for two reasons: one, had her mother not performed a "mercy killing" on the little girl, she would have grown up to be Lu. Two, at the end of the movie they had Patty come out smiling to join Nancy Kelly who pretended to spank her. It was light moment to break the dark spell of the movie because that was heavy stuff for 1956! Well, if Mariana is raped it will be cast a very dark spell over QA and I'm not sure what will be able to lighten it after that!
Thanks again for a professional style recap. You were able to do this in between your trips. You are a Total Dynamo!
Brutality and vivid violence to a young girl is not what I signed on for. Murder, as horrible as it may be, is the subject of thrillers for time immemorial, so that is to be expected...double standard or not. For years, I had been a fan of gangster films as long as they were not too gory, and the killers used the old code of leaving family members and women alone. In the beginning, I liked the Sopranos; the acting was terrific, but after awhile, they became gory and there was all that gratuitous sex which disturbed me. If Uli has his way, this will be unforgivable.
I'm concentrating on two things I liked:
a. Connie is becoming less selfish in reaching out to her half brother. Elo is a diplomat,
b. Mauro is a Teddy Bear (when he's not apoplectic) - great scenes with Geno and Manuel.
I was thinking the photographer took a photo of Lu's bag, but who knows how he will end up.
All the best to all,
I want to say No only because I like the actress and I've never seen her being a straight up villain. But there's a first time for everything.
Amaya is saved from Cesar’s unwanted amorous attention by the bell: Lu calls him, frantic that Flo’s remains are not in the well. Amaya clearly heard Cesar repeat what Lu said so she knows what the call is about. He dismisses her. Outside the door she thanks God that this is her first proof against Lucrecia!
At the scene of the crime Amaya’s photographer, Gustavo, texts Caro that Lu is furious but he’s got all the pictures, will download them back at the hotel room and send them to Caro. Now, either sending a kiss “un beso” is a common closing salutation or we missed something here. Why did Gustavo end his text with “un beso”? Ni modo. Moving on.
Lu is freaking out! Where is the body? How could she have gotten out? Cesar doesn’t know but concludes she must be alive and be behind the photographer who has been following her all day. This tweaks Lu’s freak out level even higher as she begins frantically looking around. Cesar tells her he’s got the situation under control.
Amaya and Caro wait in Amaya’s office for the pictures of Lu. This will begin to show Mauro who Lu really is because there’s no reason for her to be at the site of Flo’s death. True, Caro says, but that’s not proof that she killed Flo. Amaya says that “Florencia” will be in charge of making Lu confess: she will surrounded by evidence and reveal her own guilt. Amaya also tells Caro about her talk with Cesar, that he agreed to talk to Whor and make him stop fighting to gain custody of Vale AND convince her to go to the US in the exchange program. In exchange Cesar wanted more “affection” from Amaya. Caro laughs, not at Amaya but at the idea of Cesar having to negotiate for intimacy. Caro answers “no” when Amaya asks if she has any suggestions for continuing to hold Cesar at bay.
Cesar instructs Lu to take the first flight back to DF with the Investigator and be careful what she says. Lu wonders how Flo was able to hire a photographer. After they hang up Cesar calls Negro and tells him to follow the photographer and DON’T let him escape! A little later Cesar calls Whor, who is out on a business errand, to get back to Nescafe and see him immediately!
Juli and Max leaves her Dr. appointment. When Juli hesitates about going to El P, he talks her into it and suggests she take Alan, Lucio and Elo along with her. She agrees. Juli tells Max that when their Papa married Lu she thought she would never love her half siblings but she loves them all, especially Max. He corrects her, she is not his half-sister, she is his sister, his friend , companion, psychiatrist, and thanks to Mauro they are all loving because he taught them to be that way. . .except Cesar who is a little strange, a little “special.” They hug and declare again their filial love. Awwwww.
Well, let’s see what’s going on over in the WUN and El D(iablo). Mariana talks to two of the worker’s children, Lupe and Jesus. They don’t know how to write their names, she promises to teach them. She bids them a cheerful “see you later” when Ivan comes up. She tells Ivan about Ceci giving them time off AND footing the bill for a honeymoon. Mariana knows it’s because Ceci likes him but she doesn’t care, it’ll be great! They kiss and Ceci watches from her Tia’s room. Becca tells her Mariana is good , to give it up because Ivan loves Mari and her plan is not a good idea. Ceci says Ivan is going to come to love her the way he loves Mari. Anyway Tia taught her all’s fair in love and war. Well, that’s when she was young and rebellious. She looks at life differently now. Ceci tells her aunt that If she wants to reunite with her son, she’d better not meddle in her plan! She wants Ivan for herself whether Tia wants it or not!
The vile Uli is at El D drooling in his mind over Mariana. He wants her so much, it’s driving him crazy. He’s going to do something that will make him her only option in life. (Dirty, lowdown, dog! Uuuf! I hate him!) Effer reports to Uli that his investigation didn’t come up with anyone who worked with Ivan and Mari. Uli says then fire everyone because somebody is covering. He wants them fired at the end of the work day on Friday. Effer is to draw up letters of resignation which state they are quitting voluntarily. He is to force them to sign them or they won’t get paid and begin looking for new people. I think Uli is the REAL effer!
Next we’re in Chiapas where Lu is with the Investigator in a café, she is wearing dark glasses and is distraught because she feels exposed. They have four hours before they can leave, she tells the Investigator they are being watched and have been followed. He asks by whom. Lu answers she! She! She! Lu sees a woman with long blondish red hair and thinks it’s Flo. She goes over, pulls the woman’s shoulder and says, “ you thought you would escape!” Of course, it’s not Flo. She withdraws, embarrassed and apologizes. The Investigator asks if she’s ok.
Gustavo, the photographer is in his room in the hotel. Negro enters with a mask on. Negro presses a knife to his throat and demands to know who sent him. Gustavo doesn’t say a name but does say the person who sent him is in Mexico.
Caro and Amaya continue to wait for the files to be emailed. They both wonder what is happening, Caro calls Gustavo. In the hotel room the phone rings. Negro throws the cell phone to the floor and crushes it. Gustavo gets the advantage and fights with Negro, they tussle and end up near an open window. They struggle and Negro pushes Gustavo is out of the second story balcony window and we see a disturbingly realistic (to me) shot of Gustavo below, his head smashed on the brick pavement. Negro seems momentarily shaken.
Amaya is getting more anxious about pictures, Caro decides to call the hotel.
Negro is has recovered and thinks to himself, oh well, he’s good and dead, takes the memory, picks up his knife and leaves.
A horrified crowd gathers around Gustavo’s body. The hotel clerk is among them and looks at Negro as he leaves. Negro looks at the body casually and keeps walking. She calls for an ambulance. Caro’s call comes in. Caro asks for Gustavo Garrido. The clerk tells her of Gustavo’s tragic “accident” and death.
Negro immediately calls Cesar who calls him an idiot for not being more discreet but it’s good for them that the photographer is dead. Negro tells him what the guy said, Cesar concludes it’s Florencia. Cesar instructs Negro to bring the memory to him and continue on his mission to inflict plague on Uli’s coffee plants. Cesar is sure that Flo is alive and aware of every detail of Lu’s life.
Caro can’t believe Gustavo is dead and in this way! Amaya right away figures Lu had him killed. Caro says if his death was provoked, they have to find out why. Amaya says she’s going to Mariana’s wedding and will personally look into it. Caro protests, she will. Amaya tries unsuccessfully to dissuade her. Caro insists. Amaya tells her to be careful. Amaya will advise Gustavo’s family.
In other news, Connie visits the bratty, obnoxious Jose in prison. He rejects her offer of help and doesn’t want her to ever come back: looking at her just reminds him of all the things he was denied. She agrees with understanding and without the least bit of hurt or anger. Good.
Geno also goes to see Jose, takes him a blanket and some food. He tells of Connie’s visit with empty hands. I’m sure Connie doesn’t know anything about prison visiting day etiquette, this is her first visit to said prison AND it was spur of the moment. Anyway, the visit by “Princess Constanza” made him mad. . .she’s got everything, he’s got nothing. Wah, Wah, Wah! He says he accepted the protection in prison just so he could survive and if not for that Manuel could go to the devil; he implies that Geno can as well. Spoiled little bastard!
Connie comes to see Elo and thanks her for going with her to the prison. Connie is going to eat with them and will invite Max. Lucio has just finished his therapy session and the therapist has good news to share with Elo: Lucio has overcome the trauma he suffered and is doing so well he is ready to go to a school for children with disabilities! The therapist will send them several options to look at. This is only the first step; after this he will be able to enter a regular school! Lucio is over the moon! Max and Juli arrive and hear the good news! Hugs all around. Juli updates Elo on her Dr.’s appointment and the planned weekend trip to El P. Val wants to go too! Juli will talk to Whor and Amaya. In a side bar conversation Max tells Connie he is glad she went to talk to Jose. More smiles and warmth.
Whor returns to Nescafe to find Cesar gone. He gets into a little tiff with the Secretary who tells him Cesar says he should see him first thing in the morning. She makes a face behind Whor’s back. Tee hee!
Back at Juli’s, Mauro has arrived to pick up Lucio and is greeted with the great news about Lucio. Mauro enfolds Elo in one of his now famous bear hugs and she declares “we made it!” Mauro tells her no, it is thanks to her, he hugs her again. “Thank you for always looking after and giving my children love all these years.” They go in for a third big hug, Mauro kisses her face and then nearly goes for her lips, then freezes as he and Elo look into each other’s eyes for a long moment before breaking away , suddenly embarrassed. Lucio and Alan come in and tell Mauro they are going to El P! Yaaay! Mauro and Elo try not to make eye contact for a few awkward moments. Finally Mauro and Lucio leave, Elo is looking all excited and loopy, Alan notices and gives her the “I’m watching you” finger. Alan runs out the front door. Elo is looking skyward with dreamy eyes and sighs, ”Oh, I hope he doesn’t realize!”
It’s nighttime at MM, Lu is still rattled. She sits with Cesar in the garden. Lu thought she killed her, eliminated her! Cesar says Lu didn’t and she’s waiting to attack! That’s why she hired the photographer. Lu wonders how and why she has appeared after so many years. Cesar says maybe she lost memory for a while or didn’t have a way to communicate. What is sure is she’s going to seek vengeance! Lu says something is strange: Why wouldn’t she look for her daughter first before me? Cesar says Amaya told him she felt the presence of her mother near her. He doesn’t know why Flo doesn’t communicate openly but cautions that they have to be prepared. Yes, says Lu, Flo’s presence can change everything for them at any moment. Cesar says you see, marrying Amaya was the best thing I could do, Amaya trusts him and when Flo tries to contact her they will be aware. Yes, Lu says you have to keep your enemies close. A light bulb goes off and Lu’s eyes open wide: she thinks Flo must have an accomplice. She doesn’t know but is sure she has one!
Back at Juli’s Whor is profusely thanking Juli for being an angel. Vale asks if she can go to El P on the weekend, he says yes. Whor tries to get himself invited but Juli squashes it: it’s a family affair. He takes it well but doesn’t take it so well that Juli still wants to ask Amaya’s permission for Vale to go to El P.
Mauro is back at MM, Lucio has run upstairs . Mauro thinks to himself that he has lived years around Elo but wonders what happened today, what did he feel when he embraced her today? Elo is having the same thoughts, her face bright in the moonlight Elo thinks to herself that it shouldn’t have happened. Mauro must never know the great love she feels for him, never!
Max and Connie have just returned from the drugstore to get Juli’s medicines. Connie insists on going in with him to Juli’s to give her the meds. Max takes off his vest and puts it around Connie’s shoulders. Amaya walks up and sees them walking into the house together and laments that she is losing if Max is starting to look at Connie again as a woman, as una pareja. She prays to find the proofs she needs to accuse Lu before it’s too late!
We get a very brief scene of Lu in bed, seemingly with a sick headache and Mauro looking for his toothbrush. (Remember Amaya took it for a DNA test) along with a bit of Cesar’s hair).
First thing the next morning, Whor goes in to see Cesar who basically blackmails him to back away from the custody fight AND convince Vale to go the United States for the exchange program OR he will turn him in for fraud in his export skimming scheme and falsifying documents. Cesar will let him keep what he gained in his crooked scheme but he will do as he says or go to prison for years and never be able to get a job for the rest of his life. I must say I honestly liked the way Whor stood up to Cesar before he found out Cesar had him, as Anita says, by the short and curlies.
True to her word Juli asks Amaya’s permission for Vale to go to El P over the weekend. Amaya asks if Lu will be there. No, Juli assures her. Okay. Amaya thanks Juli for respecting her enough to consult with her about Vale and tells her that she trusts her. Amaya wants to thank Juli for everything, gets up kisses and hugs Juli who doesn’t return the embrace but looks confused. Amaya leaves. Juli asks out loud if Amaya is bipolar or what?
Amaya and Lu have a little encounter in the foyer of the MM. Amaya asks Lu how it went with the children with cancer. Lu says good, they raised lots of funds. It’s so sad that not only are the children economically disadvantaged but many of them are orphans. You lost your parents very young; you know what it’s like to be an orphan. Amaya answers yes, but I had the love of my Madrina. Wearing her plastic smile Lu says she was so good, how great that she took care of you but how terrible that you lost her as well. And they never found your mother’s body. Amaya says no but she is hopeful. Perhaps she is still alive. I was telling Cesar that I not only have the feeling that she is alive but that she is very near. You may think this is crazy but I think I saw her the other day. She could appear at any time. I have to go. Amaya thinks to herself, “God, give me strength. “ She leaves. Lu’s phony smile falls away and is replaced with a mask of worry as she thinks to herself, “Flo is going to come near her daughter at some point, I have to find her first before I go crazy!”
Amaya has arrived at work and Whor confronts her about Cesar’s ultimatum. Of course he doesn’t tell how Cesar forced him to do it only that he knows that she asked Cesar to do so and how selfish and low she is, forcing him to give up fighting for the custody of his daughter and persuading her to go the exchange program in the United States. He ties into her just in time for Max to come out of the elevator and hear it all. Whor turns on his heels and looks right into Max’s face. “You were lucky not to have married her!” he spits. Max goes right over to Amaya, looks her in the eyes and asks if it’s true she did what Whor said. We freeze on Amaya’s pained expression.
I'm not sure if Negro got the memory card. I believe the photographer took the memory card out of his camera, put it in his laptop, and put another card in the camera. I think Negro has a blank card and the one with the photos is in the laptop. Let's hope Caro gets her hands on the laptop. The poor photographer!
Terrific recap as always.
Thanks for all you do to keep up the momentum.
I am now forced to give up my dream about the Return of Florencia. The handwriting is clearly on the wall. In fairness, to Elo, she has been the backbone of the family. The children love her, and as was mentioned much earlier in the novela, she would have been a much more loving mother. I guess as long as Don Mauro will finally be happy, I'm okay with it. Still, Lulu robbed him of the love of his life and took a mother away from her child.
She seriously diminshed the quality of their lives. Thirty years is a long time to wait for love.
Vivi, you always have a keen eye.
There was a maneuver by the photographer, but I didn't follow it that closely. I trust that you are correct.
All the best,
I hope you don't mind if I call you "Eagle Eye", Vivi! Wow! That makes a LOT of difference in the story!
See folks, if you're watching and you notice something that's not mentioned in the recap; or you differ with how something is portrayed; or feel something needs to be corrected, come on out of lurkdom and say it! It makes a BIG difference in how we all understand and enjoy the story! That's what this blog is for!
OK, off the soapbox! Thanks, Vivi!
So, having said that in bold I will do my best not to bring it up again either in recaps or comments. I just had to get that off my chest. It's only a novela and if I can't say anything nice about this relationship, I won't say anything.
Rant over.
Thanks, Floridia. And all the best to YOU!
And thanks Vivi for the bit about the memory. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the laptop will end up in the right hands.
Anyway. Glad the recap helps and I am excited now about the laptop, thanks to Vivi. It makes sense. Not only have they kept the story going at a nice pace but they have made the good guys smart, winning small victories all along the way so that the memory is in the laptop fits QA's MO. Yes!
Thanks, Sara!
I'm trying to keep up with 5 novelas right now and another one started on Azteca América yesterday... Not to mention the Eduardo Yañez one that's coming soon!
Otherwise, I just choose what to watch based on action. I admit to skipping QA a lot, but I lurk here and make sure I keep up with what is going on. QA is getting kind of good, so I've been watching a little more.
I find myself "back-burnering" Duenos del Paraiso more often (which is sad, because I really like most of the cast.)
And I don't know what will happen when Amores con trampa premieres. Something may have to give.
I was just reading that article last night!
I just called my son-in-law to check on the story below which he verified.
My son-in-law's grandfather became a widower and then married the sister of his deceased wife. Not long afterward, the sister died in childbirth with her only child who turned out to be the father of my son-in-law.
The poor woman did not last long, but thanks to her I have a thoughtful and very loving son-in-law who is an excellent
father to my grandchildren.
I should find out her name.
Sara, what is the name of
Ed Y's new TN? I hope it is a good one. He deserves a solid, strong role. He's one of the few galans I like now. He can do comedy, but I would like to see him in a serious role.
All the best to all ....
That's even assuming Uni sticks to that decision. I saw the promo during Premiso Lo Nuestro...but I haven't seen anything else since. I'm pretty sure MCET is about to end.
My take on Elo/Mauro-I almost kind of forget Mauro is even married! I don't know if in this case I feel icky about the pairing.
Glad to get Vivi's take on the photo card! I thought the "good" card with the pics was the one on the desk that Negro took with him, but that may be wrong. Seeing the pics would get them out of Amaya's hand, but not help Cesar figure out who was behind this. As long as Negro doesn't see Caro as "Florencia's" accomplice...
There didn't seem to be much grieving from Caro for a guy who signed his texts to her with a beso. Poor Gustavo.
Kelly
Restrictions on my time will convert me into a Lurker from now on. I'll be back at the end to chime in once again. My health is excellent so nothing along those lines. One of my main objectives is to spend more time studying Spanish by way of reading for my book club so that I can contribute to it coherently.
By chance yesterday, I made a new friend from Columbia who lives near me and wants to join the book club. She is married to an American who does not speak Spanish, so she would like this opportunity to meet and mingle with other Latinos. She also wants to meet me for lunch at least once a month, so this is a great opportunity for me to keep my Spanish alive and well in the real world.
Life brings nice surprises at times. This all came about because I had my car detailed yesterday, and the dealer provided a shuttle service to take me home while the work was being done. The woman and her husband were also in the van. Coincidentally, this woman's favorite singer is Armando Manzanero, but she was not familiar with our beloved song.
Re the plot -- Character improvements or heart transplants needed:
Flavia still has to outgrow Uli; Salvador needs to get rid of all the rage he displayed a while back
before hooking up with Flavia.
Connie has several issues to work out as does her father. Perhaps there will be a new love interest for her later when she matures. Geno is working on not being a doormat....so many years on the wrong path.
Ivan's mother may work her way to redemption by saving her son.
I don't see redemption for Horacio. Don't know how things will work out with Uli.
Obviously, Cesar and Lulu will come to bad ends. The Montesino clan headed up by Don Mauro and Eloisa will survive. Elo will be there for Mauro when he learns of all the horrific crimes his wife has committed. As a victim of the same person, she will play that key role with conviction.
The beautiful couple will survive, and at my closing comment after the Finale, I will be able to say the name of that woman once again.
The kind-hearted, loving spirit of Florencia will live on in her daughter.
Thanks so much to all recappers and especially to the two main recappers, Lila and Anita, who have spent countless hours devoted to our viewing pleasure. You got us going, Lila, and we have shared the same emotional roller coaster several times. I really appreciate your efforts. We've had a lot of fun and a little heart ache, but "It's only a TN,"
right? It's been a most pleasant ride.
All the best to all...
Hata al Fin ......
And all the best to YOU!
Cesar was about to collect on Amaya's debt for his helping with the Vale protection plan. He has the bed all covered with rose petals and had tied her feet together with his tie and said that he was going to "kiss her all over for hours." Take a moment and spit or whatever you have to do, I'll wait.
Amaya purposely broke a glass, cutting her hand and bleeding profusely which sent Cesar into shock/panic (he can't stand the sight of blood) and running out of the bedroom. Max and Mauro came running in to help Amaya. Max looked dismayed at the scene and what it could mean. Out in the hallway Lu laughed at Cesar for not having consummated his marriage with Amaya! It was pretty funny!
Maybe more later but I don't want to step on Corazon's recap.
Oh. In the scene where Max hears Whor accusing Amaya of having stooped so low to have Cesar stop him from fighting for custody of Val and convincing her to the U.S., Max walks up to Amaya and asks if she really did those things. She doesn't answer and I think it was rhetorical anyway. He just shakes his head like, "how pitiful and low you have sunk" and walks away.
Ceci continues being a bitch, looking on at Ivan and Mari's happiness and stewing in her own green juices. Tia Becca is getting in to the wedding: she seems to truly like Mari and be happy that she is marrying Ivan. She longs to accompany him at the wedding as his mother.
Negro hires Cip to infext Uli's coffee plantation.
Uli confronts Flavia (who is with Sal) in a restaurant: he's going to sue the Montesinos for defamation of character. Sal stands up to him. He and Uli show neither is impressed with the other. Flavia is near tears after Uli leaves. Upon being told about it later, Jorge says bring it!
Jose gets a major beatdown at the prison. His big, burly body guard was felled with a flismy wodden chair leaving his former accomplice and to other thugs to beat and kick the crap out of him. In order to make him more "bonito" they cut a deep gash into his pretty face. All this was going on as Manuel, with Mauro by his side, informed Gelo that his trial was tomorrow (if I understood that correctly) and there's nothing they can do to shorten his sentence. Buying protection for him in the joint is all Mauro can do. Yah.
Amaya, with a bandaged right hand, leaves for the airport to fly WUN for Mariana's wedding. Max heads out to after promising the begging Connie(she was even in a near-kneeling position before him) that he would think about reconciling with her. Max boards the plane, there is a woman sitting next to him bent over fussing with her bag. He says "buenos" to the bent figure. She sits up. . .and it's Amaya. He sighs and rolls his eyes! This is the ending scene.
Wow, Anon, I didn't notice that! That makes it even more funny! It's like she was verifying the effect, like turning the switch on and off. Yah, that actor frickin' naile that, man! Well done!
Lu's laughing at Cesar was unexpected which made the humor that much richer. We don't get to see Cesar vulnerable too often and to see him so and the solicitous Lu not fawning over him was quite a contrast and the humor was perfect. I know she remains pissed at him for marrying Amaya so this was a good pressure release for her in light of her increasing paranoia. Well played, indeed!
Thursday, #111 2-26-15 Pt. 1
We start in Mauro’s office in Nescafe. Mauro puts Cesar on alert for the possible defamation suit from Uli. He wants him to use the full force of his skills and personality (in a legal way, of course) to defend the Montesinos and Nescafe!
Ceci finds out Amaya is coming to the wedding and is none too pleased. She tries to call Uli but he had previously given orders to Effer NOT to pass him any calls. He’s got his armed goons all ready for action. Later when she is able to get through to him, Ceci the cow warns Uli that Amaya is coming to the wedding. He’ll have to adjust but not stop his plan.
Manuel and Geno go to see Jose in the prison infirmary. He is bruised and banged up pretty badly. Manuel vows to do whatever is necessary to get their son out of the pen! Manuel and Mauro talk to Manuel’s lawyer about the possibility of paying “Chino”, the leader of the gang of thugs, to say that Jose didn’t know about the presence of the military arms. Mauro doesn’t like it but it’s Manuel’s call. Manuel Oks the plan.
Juli, Elo, Alan, Lucio and Vale arrive at El P. Jorge is soooo happy to see her; he has missed her eyes, her smile, her lips. . . .He goes in for a kiss which Juli, at first, cuts short because she thinks someone is coming, but then reinitiates with feeling! Later in the morning he presses her for some private time to talk. Juli is concerned about the privacy factor. Jorge can’t stand it! They must find the time and place! He finds himself thinking about her all day, he can’t sleep at night. She agrees! She also feels the same and they have to talk about what is happening to them! They are in kissing distance, he caresses her face and they jump apart like too guilty teenagers as the rambunctious kids charge into the house. After the kids go to wash their hands Jorge asks for Elo and Flavia to help him find some private time with Juli. Flavia squeals with delight! Jorge tells them the plan which is drowned out by an insistent saxophone.
Oooo! Flavia and Heriberto give each other the eye! Hmmmm. I thought they were trying to hook her up to Sal?! Wow, they even play them a tune and he watches her every step of the way as she goes into the house after having played in the yard with Lucio, Alan and Vale.
Amaya and Max end up having to share a rental car to drive from the airport to the wedding. The rental blows a tire; Max loses control and the crash over an embankment. The car tumbles several times and they seem to be hurt badly. Amaya’s head is cut. Smoke is coming from somewhere!
Over in the stark white living room of MM Connie lets it out of the bag that Max is going to Mariana and Ivan’s wedding. Cesar freaks out: Amaya is going there, too! They’re going to be together! The two frantically start calling Max and Amaya. Nora has been visiting with Connie and is looking like, aawwwky! Of course, neither Max nor Amaya answers their phones and Cesar is convinced they are together. I mean, Togethertogether! Connie is not convinced this is what it means; they could still be on the plane. Cesar proves they’re not by pulling up the flight data on his phone. They landed an hour ago. Cesar swears Max is NOT going to take what is HIS!
Cesar calls the airport and finds out they left in the same car: it’s all Amaya’s plan! Cesar and Connie argue while Max has managed to get to his feet. Amaya is fully her old self now as they put their arms around each other for support and hobble away from the wreckage as frank flames now lick at the mangled metal of the car. Max throws Amaya over his shoulder and they are nearly thrown to the ground as the car explodes hurling debris past them as Max shields Amaya with his body.
Believe it or not, there is some humor thrown in here. Nora is sitting between Connie and Cesar as they argue about whether or not Amaya and Max planned to hook up at the wedding. Nora is silent and Cesar’s legs are pressed against hers and he is leaning on her legs and earlier was even copping a feel! I don’t know why Nora doesn’t get up! Is she secretly enjoying Cesar’s touch? We know they haven’t portrayed her as involved intimately with anyone. A girl gotta get her kicks but. . . .okay, I hope that’s not what’s happening, anyway, funny dynamics!
Amaya and Max sit and compose themselves; she tells them for one moment she thought he was dead. He asks would that have mattered to her. She responds tearfully, of course, yes.
Mariana is increasingly worried that Amaya has not arrived at the WUN finca. She calls Amaya’s cell and leaves a message. Ivan calms her with sweet talk, promises to court her every day of their marriage, and kisses!
Max and Amaya, torn, battered and bruised shuffle and hop along, aided by a piece of tree branch. Amaya holds Max’s arm and looks at him with a look that says she can’t believe how much she loves this man. (At least that what it says to me!) The countryside is beautiful with rocks draped in the cascading waters and bathed in bright sunlight. They spot an old, abandoned warehouse and head towards it. Any port in a storm.
Jorge and Juli make their escape! Jorge asks if she’s thought about them. She replies it was all so fast. Her life is already set, she has Alan. Jorge responds that he and Alan get along so well so that’s a plus and Jorge includes Alan in any commitment he would make to her. Juli says she’s older than him; he shoots that down as well. (Now THAT surprised me!) My man leans down and turns his rap up on high. I’ll save something for you all to savor but let me just say, it’s working; Juli’s eyes and affect say it all! Ummmm, a nice, tender, expressive KISS!!!! And the episode crystallizes on this passionate, long-time-coming beso!
**********
Vivi, it was a good episode. I wish you happy watching this weekend and home you stop by to chat after you've watched! Tomorrow ought to be good, too!
Kelly
I'm looking forward to stopping by starbuck's on the way home, getting on my jammies and watching the backlog of shows on the ol' DVR. I'm going to put QA at the top of the "watch" list.
LILA--Thank you for shouldering and soldiering on for us. I think CorazonSalvaje has abandoned us for greener pastures...but where to? This tn is not only green, but ripe with low-hanging fruit to nourish our thirst for complicated tales, told in Spanish.
NOTE--We'll have to revise our pathetic recapping schedule for next week.
Vivi, you haven't committed (not that you have to)to taking an episode, so it's up to Lila, Kelly and me to keep it going.
I will still do Monday.
Lila is still on for Tuesday.
I will do something for Thursday.
Kelly is on for next Friday.
That only leaves Wednesday without a summary. Maybe we can eke one out from the comments.
Thanks for the recaps. Breakfast and my DVR await to help me catch up with all the hi-jinks. Can't wait to see Amaya's blood red, petal filled (and tied) evening along with the real blood..and the car crash.
His creepiness scares me. I feel like he has a rape or murder kit tucked away somewhere.
Can't wait for you three to catch up and comment. Y'all are major contributors along with Kelly, Sneaky and Steve. I know you're out there lurking, too, Floridia!
:D
Lila--I can't believe you are willing to do so much for this little gem of a telenovela. It's been forgotten by everyone, Uni, dedicated watchers and all, except us.
It was quite a marathon doing the catch up. Loved yesterday's and today's episodes (but scared about seeing Uli at the very end). Will do my usual wordy comments tomorrow, after Kelly's recap. (I do have other ones to catch up with, too.)
Yep. Will wait also for Kelly's recap for more comments. Uli's big, black SUV has given me a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach! Ugh!
Because of Univision's hectic scheduling and editing habits, I usually stay to the afternoon novelas and boy, have they been lonely, especially during the greatness that was La Mujer del Vendaval.
Anyhoo, only been able to lurk this week because of work but man, has it been good. Every second moves the story toward big revelations and even bigger plans for the future.
I'm glad Amaya and Max are having some quiet, reflective moments, even if it is in their current situation. Amaya's facial expressions pain me, and Max even more as they try as they might to contain themselves.
It was refreshing to see Alan was not phased by his mom's new romance (shows a lot of maturity) unlike Valeria (not with Cesar but with Max the first time around). Now that Jorge and Juliana are a couple and Carolina saw them, maybe she can move on finally to better things.
I hate Cecy more than Uli, at least he admits and knows he's a slimy sleaze ball. Cecy, under the guise of friendship has sharpened the biggest knife for Ivan and Mariana. I'm so happy they got married though! Whatever happens, the fact that they actually got married will tide me over for a while (so refreshing).
I gotta say, Constanza trusting in Max was the best thing that ever came out of her mouth.
Eloisa and Mauro (hubba hubba!) I'm all for this pairing as soon as Lucrecia gets caught. Mauro needs someone who will love him and his kids no matter what.
Exciting things have happened and there are probably still more to come. Quiero Amarte continues to be must see tv.
One more thing: No sympathy for Jose at all. And Genoveva is definitely grating my nerves, that's why Jose is like he is! He thinks that everything he does is not his fault and someone will always bail him out.
I hope he serves his sentence because no one told him to do what he did nor force him and he has enough conscience to know what he was doing.
Juliana wants to try this thing with Jorge. Yeah! They are both happy, but Juliana calls this a locura, and he shouts that to the sky in happiness. But Juli is worried about appearances in starting something so soon. Jorge tells her he’s loved her from day 1. She thinks Franco would be happy with her starting over with such a good guy. But now she’s worried about Alan. He te amo’s her, and they kiss more.
Mauro gets a text from the investigator in Guatemala still trying to find “Florencia”, but he gets interrupted by Lucrecia. They have a nice moment.
Cesar, still in his natty suit, hounds the two of them as soon as they walk in the door about Max and Amaya being in Chiapas together. He accuses Mauro of knowing something, and Lu tries to talk him down by reminding him that Max hates Amaya. He threatens to kill Max if he goes near HIS mujer.
Nora still hasn't escaped, and she’s talking to Cons. Con still thinks there is nothing between Max and Amaya and never will be. He’ll never forgive her, not ever. Nora doesn’t seem so sure.
Max and Amaya go into the ruins at the side of the road looking for help. Not sure what kind of help they expect to find in this place, but ok. He asks her forgiveness for being stupid. Amaya calls it an accident and is glad they’re ok. (It’s a miracle really, after that accident. Someone maybe got a little overzealous about flipping that matchbox car over and over). Max did manage to limp over to a stream for some water.
Mauro leaves a message for Max now, and Cesar is still yelling and mad. Mauro calls El P to get Ivan’s phone number. Smart thinking! When he calls Ivan, he finds out that they haven’t gotten there yet, and Ivan finds out that Max is coming. He leaves a message for Max to call him when he gets there. Cesar is still being Cesar, but Con is sure that nothing untoward is going on. Lu makes a crack about Amaya changing loves like she changes socks, and for some reason this doesn’t calm down Cesar.
Cip is rushing off somewhere when he gets interrupted by the priest asking about Mariana. Cip calls her an escuincla and not his, etc., and he’s gets a talking to by the padre. Then he grips about her being the one to abandon him (can you blame her??). Padre brings up getting a dna test to prove her paternity, but Cip isn’t interested.
Caro gets to the hotel and asks to talk to the woman who was there when the photog died. She makes up some story about studying or writing about the way he died. She gets a recommendation for a café.
Jorge calls Juliana his novia, and she giggles. They get some food from a cart to share. Caro happens to be at a café where she can see the two of them together, and realizes that Juli is the one he loved instead of her.
Negro and Cip talk about the
plague and how to get access to Uli’s land to spread this thing. Cip is more excited about this than any other job he’s had.
Mariana worries about Amaya not being there yet. Ivan is sure it’s nothing, but he tells her that Max will be there too. Mari goes inside and talks to Beca, and mentions that Ivan is excited to meet her. But Mari can’t wait for Amaya, so she gets ready in Beca’s room.
Max has not only gotten water, but managed to pick some fruit too.
Cesar makes plans to go to Chiapas, and Mauro wonders if he might not be overdoing this a bit. Cesar thinks no, but Mauro says Max would never do anything against his brother. (Not like SOMEONE we know).
Jorge and Juli get back to the finca, and Jorge pulls Alan aside wanting to talk to him. They talk outside where Jorge tells him that he has found the love of his life, the most beautiful woman in the world. Alan asks if it’s someone he knows. Yep, his mom. Alan asks if she loves him, and Jorge thinks yes, and talks about how important it was to talk to him (Alan) and see what he thinks. Alan is cool with it, and gives him that “I’m watching you” thing that he does.
Meanwhile, Juliana is inside talking to Elo and Flavia and having some news. They tease her about being pregnant, and she laughs and says no, they’re novios! They all laugh and are happy.
Caro meets with the woman at the hotel and talks to her about the photographer. The woman says the cops have his things, and here I missed exactly what she said. At first I thought she said they got everything but a memory card, but I think it was really that they got the camera missing the memory card. Caro asks if she saw anyone, and she remembers seeing Negro leave. But when Caro asks what the man looked like, the woman panics a bit and refuses to give any more details.
Julia and Elo are talking as the boys come back, looking all bummed out, saying they talked. But they laugh about the fake out and all is well. Lucio thinks Jorge will be Alan’s new father, but Jorge stops him. He’ll never take the place of Franco, etc., but Alan calls him his Mexican papa.
Caro calls Amaya and leaves a message about seeing Jorge and Juliana, and why can’t she find love.
Ivan is ready and Ceci complements him on how he looks. Now he’s worried about Max and Amaya not showing up. He goes to talk to Mariana while Ceci texts Uli to let him know they are on their way to town. Ivan has to talk to Mariana through the door so he doesn’t bring them bad luck, like that’ll help. He’s going to the church with Ceci and they’ll meet her there. Beca looks worried (or that’s what I thought at first). Mari gets dressed and asks Beca for a blessing. Beca can’t do that because she isn’t religious, but she’s nice about this, and Mari thanks her for all her help. Or “help”. Beca looks out the window at Ivan and thought-bubbles that she’s sorry she can’t help Mari, but she wants to be close to Ivan and has to help Ceci, and besides, whatever Ceci wants, she gets. It’s nothing personal, Mariana. (And Beca loses her chance at redemption. Or she’ll have to do something spectacular to earn it).
Amaya had gone out for some aloe vera leaves and puts some on Max’s wounds. (My grandma used to do this when we got sunburned. It’s sticky and gross and takes forever to dry, but it works). Max then does the same for her. She lays back and cries, but tells him she’s fine. She thought bubbles that she wishes she could tell him everything. She’ll do what she can when this is done to get his love back. He thought bubbles about her as well. They aren’t doing anything about getting help.
Lu comes in to see Cesar as he packs. She tells him to put Amaya in her place. And where is that place, he asks. La tumba. She wants him to get her to sign the lands over to him and then get rid of her. But what about Florencia?
Mariana gets to the civil ceremony safely and Ivan kisses her. They go inside to get this done. The ranch hand into Ceci steals glances at her, but she wouldn’t notice. She looks annoyed during the whole thing. Or she has a serious case of resting bitch face. The judge declares then husband and wife, papers get signed, they kiss, and Ceci looks like she wants to puke. But she manages to fake happiness for them. They walk over to the church, and we see Uli drive up in a big black suv.
I think Cesar is coming around to killing Amaya, but also wants to take care of Max. Lu is opposed to this and tries to convince Cesar that Max will be out of the way once Amaya is gone and he’s with Cons and the baby. Cesar wants that first-born gone for good, but agrees to take it step by step. Lu leaves the room happy, and then Cesar thinks, “Sorry, mama”, but Max will have to die too.
Fill in details that I missed. This was mostly an episode setting up the next phase of the story which isn’t looking to be a very happy one. Except for Jorge and Juliana. They’re adorable.
Kelly
Did the guy at the hotel say something about the memory card/computer? I thought he did, but Caro didn't seem to do anything about it so I thought I misunderstood.
I'm right there with Superalfie about the wedding. I was really surprised it happened. I was prepared for a bodus interruptus!
Superalfie- I did not catch MdV because I'm not a fan of the leads, but I just checked and I see that Ma Pat is the producer. I am really enjoying La Sombra del Pasado so I may have to try and find MdV online.
If QA is replaced with something good, I'll watch that with you ;)
Jose Ron is not my favorite but ai dont mind him. I love Ariadne Diaz though, she really shined in this role.
What I loved about it was the fact the protagonists were together for more than half of the novela and early weddings as well.
It was down to earth like QA and didbt have cartoonish, larger than life villains or outlandish plot twists. I think youd enjoy it.
I meant to say yesterday-and I'm sure I've said it numerous times-that the actor playing Uli is really good. He's a villain, but I do enjoy watching him.
Kelly
Dumb question - can I assume they are talking about the memory card in the camera? That they haven't noticed a memory card in the laptop? And wouldn't a missing memory card set off any alarm bells with the police?
Great episode, indeed! I can't think of anything that needs to be added, Kelly.
Superalfie, I love your comments above and was so glad to find a discussion space for QA as well as find it on my beloved hulu+! My first novelas were afternoon ones, Accoralada being one of these, Las Riendas del Amor another and others I can't recall just now. If Caray existed back then I didn't know about it and don;t know if the afternoon shows were discussed much back then.
Agree with all your comments on QA about Max and Amaya dynamics, the time in the abandoned shck will be good for them. Max sees and feels her pain as well and wondered to himself why he didn't hate her as he should. That's progress!
And thank you, Superalfie for thanking those of us who share this story with you by summarizing and recapping. We are not special or different and we do volunteer to do this but even reading a simple "thank you" makes it that much more worthwhile!
Well, I have got to do some house work today. I love novelas and this board but I've been naughty and some things are piling up. Gotta do some stuff and I'll be back!
:D
Cameras do have some internal space for photos, so it might not be unusual for there not to be a card. However, he is a photographer, so it WOULD be unusual for him not to have a memory card.
We saw Gustavo at his laptop when Negro came in, maybe he got them loaded onto the computer, but not yet sent by e-mail. So there may be hope the photos he took show up later.
In any case, Amaya has had a set back. But of course Amaya has a big set back right now, anyway.
More later!
My big laughs in this episode was this place Max and Amaya ended up was falling apart, it didn't even seem to have a roof. But not only did it have a roof once they got inside, but it also had a bucket and a pretty blue tin cup. I was also amused at how long it took Amaya to wipe the blood off her nose and mouth. I guess they needed to make sure we understood they had been in a terrible car crash, so they left a little blood on her forehead. (It was probably in her contract--Max's face looked pretty good too.)
:D
Just before Negro leaves he picks up the memory card from the table: it has the same flower and is in the same position. So. Unless the camera had two memory cards, one "blank" and one with the photos and that one was in laptop, it looks like the memory card that Negro took IS the one that was in the camera.
I also hope
Anyway, I hope there were two cards and the one with the pictures was in the laptop or the the email was ready to be sent when poor Gustavo was ambushed and met his end!
She really didn't expect that hotel clerk to shut down on her and I don't think she has any other leads or ideas. Just don't let her slip up and expose her and Amaya's "mis planes" because her mind is befuddled over not having a man!
;)
Please tell me that there are multiple meanings for chicharrón because I hate to think that that huge fried square that Juli and Jorge shared was ALL pork rind.
watched Rick Bayless once and he said somtimes chicharrons were made with queso
not sure if that's better or not
I prefer to think its cheese cause ugh otherwise
I'm back from outer space (really no internet access for a wk) and thanks all recappers all the recaps were great
And that goes for everyone :)
Maybe the llamas stole the memory card?

Anyway, Sneaky, I more have to rein myself in sometimes rather than worry about whether I'm really expressing myself. You know whqt I mean? Remember the talk Elo gave to Amaya about in life there are some men who are off limits to a woman, meaning your man/boyfriend/husband's brother? We know Amaya took up with Cesar to gain valuable information on Lu, etc. but she chose Cesar also because it would be so odious as to turn Max away. Not just because Cesar is his arch rival but because Cesar is his brother So I guess there may be some viewers who don't get why ASmaya being with Cesar is a problem at all.. You are so right: different strokes!
Well. enough on that. This is a good, throught-provoking show!
:D
Hopefully they will show Negro looking at what's on the memory card next episode so that we can see what he actually got. I'm still holding on to the possibility that the memory card with the photos is in the laptop.
Although it's nice that Max and Amaya are having some bonding time, I'm sad neither of them made it for the wedding. Plus, I'm worried that them being MIA will make it easier for Uli and Ceci to carry out their plans.
I was thinking Max and Amaya's presence would thwart Uli and Ceci's evil plans. I cannot imagine what they are going to do! Ivan and Mari are so happy. Max and Amaya's accident was totally unexpected and these writers have shown me I need to just enjoy the ride and stop trying to guess what's going to happen!
I surely hope, though, that Mariana will not be raped. That would be too dark, evil and uncessary! Can't wait for Monday!
Looks like QA will be moved up on my list of watching priorities this week!
Keep going, Girl!
:D
Uli looks like he has a military assault team with him! Yikes!
I thought it was sweet that Ivan said that Mari would always be his novia, even after she's his wife, because he will never take her for granted and always woo her. Awww!!!
Loved the looks that passed between Flavia and Heriberto. I had thought the writers were sending her to the arms of Sal, but there was a real spark this episode with Heriberto. And he's a cutie!
Jorge and Juli look really good together too.
I LOL when Max broke the heel off of Amaya's ridiculously high heeled boot. She really doesn't want her ankle to get better, does she? Although Max won't be putting Amaya in his friends and family phone plan anytime soon, I hope that the fact that she pulled him from a flaming car will at least stop him from being nasty to her from this point on.
I was proud of Connie for not going into a jealousy fit like Cesar did. She has grown some. I would love to see the outtakes of that scene with handsy Cesar and poor Nora. :)
You guys are killing me about the fried pork rind. I didn't know what it was, I thought it was like an elephant ear and wondered why she wanted salt and lemon on it! o_O
Mariana looks beautiful. I love her traditional shawl adding a pop of color to her wedding outfit.
Could Max look any more sexy than with his shirt off, rubbing aloe into Amaya's hurt ankle? :)
I do fear for both of them though when that crazy Cesar gets them back to the MM.
I really hope this experience lowers Max's hate level for Amaya by a lot. I hate seeing him seethe and scowl. It's like he's scowling at me, and I don't like it. I like my Max smiling...and shirtless.
Even though I'm ready for spring, cuddling up with QA or LS with a hot cuppa is mighty fine!
Besides, between Downton Abbey and The Good Wife, I want to review an episode from earlier this week where Uli has a confrontation with a seller who really puts him in his place--not that he is going to pay any attention, his narrow-minded focus is All Mariana All The Time. I didn't see it discussed, so it was probably in that Wed episode that didn't get recapped.
I was half paying attention to the scene with Uli and the buyer, but basically the buyer told him the Montesinos were well respected and Uli's name is Mudd. Obviously, as Jorge pointed out to Flavia, if they go head to head in a law suit, the Montesinos will win.
We'll have to get our romance fix with Jorge and Juli!
I think the slab of fried pork rind killed it for me.
But Jorge's talk with Alan was incredibly sweet.
Hahahahahahahaa!
Oh, gosh! Sorry, Sara! I'm going to forgive them that though it WAS gross! With Ivan and Mariana in Uli's cross hairs, they're all I got!
Forgot to mention Mariana's shawl! Thanks for bringing it up, Vivi. Loving all her beautiful embroidered tops. And, although I'm not normally into fashion, Constanza's boho look is appealing even if her neediness is not.
I'd let Max goop all the aloe vera on me that he wants. TMI for a Sunday?

1. Luce wants bodyguards STAT! She was almost assaulted. Mau gets pissed at her because he's told her not to go anywhere alone and he always wanted her to have a bodyguard and she was the one rejecting the idea. Mau wants to know why she didn't tell him the night before. Luce says she took a sleeping pill she was so upset. Mau says how come they actually had a conversation, then (about the toothbrush). She says she can't remember now. Juli has been listening to all this, skepticism is written all over her face.
2. Whor is in a panic. He's called Negro to say Cesar has all the documents with the forged signatures. All Negro cares about is that nothing points to him. Whor wants to make sure their "other" little money venture pays off soon. He wants to leave the country. Later Cesar tells Negro it's too bad Whor is going to lose it all.
3. Max in Mau's office. Todavia la amo. He's only staying in the MM for Consta's sake. It's too difficult to be around Amaya. He's going to go to M & I's wedding then go to El P.
3. Juli has to listen to Whor whine about Cesar pressuring him about not petitioning for custody of Vale and to allow her to go on the exchange by accusing him of fraud. Juli wants to know why. Cause Amaya asked him to. He tells Juli he'd like the mother of his children to have her values. He then warns Juli to be careful of Cesar. He cares what happens to her. Awkward silence. When Juli turns away, he sneaks in a sneaky smile.
Cont'd.
4. That slippery slope Max took in bed with Consta included her question, if he won't make love with her is it because the doctor had prescribed total rest or because it's an excuse. He kisses her hand and turns away, but doesn't answer. (Of course not, he just told his father he still loved Amaya, but carnal needs are very strong. We'll see how long the man holds out.)
5. The Uli-Buyer Guy scene. Thanks Vivi. That's how it happened. Let me amplify a bit.
a. Uli says soon the next harvest will be ready. Is Buyer Guy interested?
b. BG says, he doesn't know what to say.
c. Uli says, why?
d. BG says, because the word got around for what you did to the El Paraiso folks. And the Coffee Association people are very disturbed by what he did. Nobody is going to buy coffee from him.
e. Uli says it's all a lie. They are saying that because the daughter Flavia tried to get it on with him and he rejected her.
f. BG says, whatever the real reason, the Montesinos are trustworthy and Uli's bad reputation has spread far and wide.
6. WUN has a name!! I saw if for a brief second--it's dark on dark, that's why we haven't "seen" it. It's called La Tormenta. How aptly named.
7. When Uli approaches Flavia and Sal in the restaurant, he tells her to make her family retract what they've been saying about him or he is going to file a defamation and libel suit.
8. I thought Max used the right words on Consta the next day as she implored him to give them another chance as a pair and not just as baby-daddy-and-mommy. He says that if they do and things don't go right (he's still thinking of Amaya, to be sure) they will be ruining what they already have as the baby's parents.
9. Cesar sniffs the teddy Amaya never put on for their bloody red noche de amor.
10. Cristian de la Fuente would never wear neon green socks, or would he?
11. Cesar thinks Cipriano is the perfect patsy to have hired to spread the plague to Uli's coffee. If they catch him, he'll be under suspicion for having a strong motive.
12. Cecy observes the meaningful kissing between Mari and Ivan when she bring him and Tadeo the picnic lunch. She's seething. Later she gives him the envelope with the cash for his honeymoon. Ivan says to her, who would have thought we'd become such good friends, especially after we had been university novios.
There you have it. Will put up the schedule and the post tomorrow towards noon. Keep commenting here until I give the high sign.
Consta the clinging vine--you nailed it amiga!
Thank you!
You know what? Maybe this begins a trend of some truly quality shoes at 3 p.m. I'm not saying the other shows haven't been, I don't know, but if they consistently offer good, quality, unedited shows like this at 3, I'm all in and would be happy to be a mate on your recapping ship, Amiga!
Another exciting week ahead!
