TELEMUNDO Y MÁS: Dueños del Paraíso, Los Miserables, Tierra de Reyes, etc - Week of Feb. 9, 2015
The March issue of People en Español (Yes, damn it, I subscribe -- Please don't judge me!) has a multipage feature on Kate and the retro fashions she wears in Dueños del Paraíso. One tidbit in the piece really surprised me:
When it comes to judging an outfit for the show, her best advisor is her co-star, José "Chema" Torre [Adán Romero], who is not only an actor but also a Mexican designer who has just launched a line of tailored suits for men. "I ask Chema, 'Does this look good?' and he helps me," says Kate.
Who knew? Personally, I'd love to see Adán as a guest judge on Project Runway one of these days...
Los Miserables has us (well, some of us... well, me...) watching breathlessly, though perhaps with less emotional investment and a bit more cynicism than earlier, before we started thinking of it as Los Improbables and Daniel as that round-headed kid, Charlie Brown, with Lily as Lucy, eternally pulling the football away. (Lucía who?)
Tierra de Reyes has its share of fans around here too. The speculation about Arturo's hat(s) is proceeding apace, as is the bewilderment at the apparent obliviousness of Aarón Díaz to his facial expressions (which, to paraphrase Dorothy Parker, run the gamut from A to B).
Stay warm and safe and have fun, folks!

I'm looking forward to the week ahead.
I just caught up on last week's comments on this.
the Gallardo rancho: The boys did lose the ranch because they couldn't pay the mortgage. This was when Alma was with Ignacio. Ignacio bought the ranch from the bank and I think he had actually transferred it to Alma when he was murdered. Leonardo found the paperwork and convinced Cayetana to destroy the transfer documents and keep it herself.
It seems like Valverde has some relationship to the Gallardo family. On Friday's episode, he reacted when Cayetana told him who the previous owners of the ranch were but then denied that he knew them.
Veronica - I like the twin story but I think that Soledad already made it pretty clear that Veronica is the Gallardos' half sister. She had an affair with dad Gallardo and got pregnant. This is different than Pasion de Gavilanes (PdG) where the ringer for the dead sister was the child of an uncle.
Nena - this storyline was in PdG. Eduvina Trueba had the hots for the Samuel character. In PdG, she owned a chain of supermarkets but had the evil servant couple. Eduvina was an over the top man-crazy old bat. I like the Nena character much better.
I don't think the staff are poisoning Nena. She has some medical problem but the servants are trying to hasten her death by not giving her the correct amount of medicine.
I continue to be surprised how much Tierra is following the plot of PdG.
I would say his expressions run the gamut from A to A and a half, sort of considering venturing to B but never getting there.
What are the producers thinking?! "Hey, let's hire a very handsome, capable, and charismatic actor, then make him slump around scowling for months on end doing nothing charming. Also, make him wear a gross hat to kill the hotness."
Liking Pablo and Veronica the most, in spite of her 80s style. WOW is her mother ever a snob. But also she should grow up and own her choices instead of skittering around pretending not to be doing things mama wouldn't approve of.
I wish the writers/directors wouldn't persist in using this pushiness thing and calling it romance. I mean Irina being mad at Flavio, and he responds by forcefully kissing her until she gives in and kisses back. NOT COOL. FIRST you charm her and get her to like you again (and maybe, like, tell her why you have sisterly feelings for Veronica instead of the patently lie-sounding "it meant nothing!" about the hugging she saw), THEN you kiss her.
"FIRST you charm her and get her to like you again (and maybe, like, tell her why you have sisterly feelings for Veronica instead of the patently lie-sounding "it meant nothing!" about the hugging she saw), THEN you kiss her."
Amen!
Thanks for clearing up the Nena thing, Jean.
I misspoke last week when I said poisoning, so I went back and said she probably was sick that that they were probably messing with her meds.
Yeah, I was thinking "how obvious can Valverde be" you don't say "Wow what a small world!" I wonder what that is all about.
Is it possible that Ignacio was shady like Leonardo has said?
I don't understand why Sofia is all pissed off at Irina and thinks that Irina getting with Flavio makes Sofia's life harder. How so? Was she hoping Irina could be the one doing what makes mama happy to offset the disturbance of Sofia choosing to be with Arturo? Was she set on using the wedding hoopla as a distraction to make her escape? I don't get it. If anything, I would think she'd appreciate a little extra scandale to take some of the heat off herself.
I do NOT understand why Samuel wants to be with Patricia, especially after the trauma when Flavio was missing. Really? You think a woman who cares nothing about your troubles and just whines at you to pamper her more, while you are in great distress, makes a suitable life partner? Andrea may be a shrew but at least she comes through and helps you when it really matters.
Looking forward to tonight's epi. Hope to have the recap up by noon tomorrow.
@Julia
I was thinking the same thing when Sofia got all mad at Irina. I mean why be mad at the only person who has your back. If i was Sofia i would be happy. I also agree that Samuel needs to get rid of Patricia. She is annoying and i kind of like seeing her suffer at the Palenque. Too bad that she is to blind to see that Candela is her friend and that she values her friendship. Stupid Patricia. I think at the end of the day even she doesn't deserve Ulises

ps... I can't commit to recapping Los Miserables this week.
A lot of action on the board for our tn, apparently. Well done, guys, keep the comments coming, it makes watching all the more interesting.
NovelaMaven, you cracked me up with Aaron Diaz's facial expressions. Should we even use the plural when talking about them?
Jean, thank you for clarifying some of the Gallardo ranch stuff. I wasn't paying too much attention at the beginning.
Nena is a good character, I wonder of she ends up marrying Samuel after all. My point being: when will be Andrea's turn? She had half a brain to tell him how she feels the other night, but then Sam proposed??? In the Palenque with Ulysses and all the guys who tried to kill him around?
Julia, I haven't seen Friday's episode, yet, so I can't give an honest opinion about Favio and Irina, but I agree with you that tns use this type of situations very often and call it romance. However, I do find them more romantic than Arturo and Sofia.
Sofia mad at Irina? She should cheer for her sister, she's proving to be just an hypocrite. It's not like Irina's fiancé (what's his face) doesn't know about it, Irina is not cheating, as opposed to Sofia.
Patricia is annoying, but she will probably end up losing everything anyway, soo... She keeps telling Samuel how she gave up everything for him. Wasn't she basically a hooker before? Why is she complaining so much? Geez!
That was weird that Samuel pulled out the ring right there in Palenque Night (as the characters call it). Surrounded by his enemies. How romantic. And what exactly has Patricia given up? Her role as head slave of Ulises? What a tragedy. I'd be more sympathetic to her career downturn if she were making ANY effort to find gigs elsewhere, instead of whining to Sam to take care of her while she sits around, then whining at the club that she isn't the star anymore. Expand your horizons, sweetcakes.
Really enjoying this TN even if it is not an original. Agree completely about Arturo's lack of emoting. Hopefully this changes as the story moves along.
Can't stand Patricia either and look forward to see what happens with her.
Enjoy most couples especially the storyline with Andrea and Samuel. Like that the story takes time for them to slowly develop. Also like Cayetana and Nestor.
yes yes Julia & Ana I thought the same thing about Sophia & Irina
how does one sister getting it on w/one brother ruin the relationship of the other sister w/the other bro?
I'm starting to like Arturo (despite his constant something is rotten in the state of - where are we again? oh yeah - Houston, face) mostly because of what he says every time someone says they have to euthanize an animal because its suffering. Stuff along the lines of 'I suffer and I don't want to be euthanized, or life is full of suffering, but its worth living.'
Or at least that's how my brain is translating it.
I'm liking his philosophy, it feels very empowering and sincere and uplifting and I think shows a respect for the animals, like they're tuff they can take it, and their lives matter to us and to themselves. That's very unusual and I was surprised by it the first time
Of course it helps that he magically knows what to do to cure the animals too.
Interesting tidbit, the writer of this telenovela wrote also Mi Gorda Bella and is quite active on Twitter, lol. From reading, fans love her as she interacts with all and gives bits of spoilers.
Sneaky two shoes, good point about Arturo's philosophies. He may be depressed, but he still sees the value in living things even when others don't. I wish he would pull himself together and go to veterinary school or something so he could make use of his talents and interests. He needs to develop more self-esteem and stop thinking of himself as the downtrodden.
Is his entire revenge plot to gradually drain away money from Cayetana by collecting paychecks while dragging the construction out forever? Because it kind of seems that way. And can we be done once and for all with the idea of getting revenge on their parents by tormenting the three ladies? They are innocent of the property swipe crime, yes? They didn't even know about the bad stuff going on. So leave them out of it. Sheesh. And you shouldn't have to fall in love with them to realize that.
I also don't understand Sofia's high and mighty attitude to Irina's romance with Flavio. Surely, she doesn't want Irina to marry Dario. Yes, Irina is engaged but that's not in the same league as cheating on your husband, which is what Sofia did.
Not to mention, absolutely anyone with minor observational powers can tell that Dario is not exactly looking for a traditional marriage with Irina, so one should be able to surmise he's in it for other reasons himself. I wish she would just tell Sofia that she and Dario have an understanding, though, rather than let her sister think the worst of her. Even so, I don't approve of cheating, but at least Irina isn't married, unlike Sofia. Although Sofia has told her slimeball husband it's over, so I wouldn't say she's betraying him. But get that divorce already, Sofia! Get out of the gray area! Your mom doesn't even like Leo anymore! Take advantage of that! Why is Leo still living in the house?
Didn't Sofia get the divorce, but still needed Leo to sign.
Didn't Leo refuse to sign and say he would reveal that Sofia's father was embezzling or some other shady dealing with the stables (it was a while ago.)
Didn't Leo offer to sign the divorce but very soon after discover Sofia was pregnant. Didn't he then threaten to kill the baby daddy?
Please clarify someone.
I think I missed some of that. I did catch Leo threatening to kill the father, but I still think Sofia could try a little harder. She has such a beaten-down demeanor. Which is realistic, I guess, but I'd rather see a heroine who toughens up and figures out a way to get rid of him. Counter-blackmail, bribery, put a detective on him and get him jailed for something without knowing she was behind it, send him out on a boat with his side piece and hope she'll throw him overboard, whatever.
Actually he was forced to jump off the boat while visiting side piece. I think Valverde (papá de side piece) showed up.
I'm amazed at how many loud, public and pretty physical arguments they've had and everyone still thinks they should still try to fix the marriage.
Hey guys, since Aficionada won't be able to recap until Thursday and H, h & d is lounging on the beach and catching up on his reading, can I help out this week?
Agnes is recapping tonight's (Monday's) episode. I can help out on Tuesday and/or Wednesday, if you'd like. I'd hate to see a gap in the story, especially now that things are heating up.
In from the storm! Whew ... warm again!
Thank you, NovelaMaven! For our new page, and for your offer to recap Los Mis - "especially now that things are heating up"! Yes!
I will be catching up on episodes on thursday, so I can recap wednesday night's show on thursday. It will be the video version, so might have gaps (beyond my usual gaps, lol), but people here are great about filling in!
I will see how friday looks for doing thursday's show that day, too.
LXV, love your thoughts about Aracely Arámbula! "She's really matured as an actress. I love that she is so full-figured, not one of those scrawny protas where really all you're looking at is the enhancements. And she throws her weight around rather regally. Perfect casting IMO. And her emotional range has improved so much!" Beautifully said!
SO looking forward to your recap tomorrow! It's gotten to be almost like withdrawal to miss the show, it is moving so fast! Can't wait! Thank you!!
Hombre, hecho y derecho, have a delightful beach and reading time! (jealous .... ) Thank you for letting us know!
Aficionada
I liked this episode a lot. There was a lot of drama and some subtle interactions between the characters, a significant time jump and best of all: less people shot!
The trend of apparently no consequences when shooting people in Miami hospitals continues. Victor Manuel points the gun at Anastasia, but spends too much time gloating. A nurse comes in then Irene and Renato. Anas herself grabs the guy’s jacket and Renato overpowers him, but not before he shoots a nurse in the back.
We get a long interesting monologue from Anastasia about how her life hasn’t been easy. This is over a montage of some of the activities of Adán and Conrado and of Renato locking VM up in the cellar of the warehouse. We see that the packaging of the cocaine is going apace with the usual worker bees barely clothed. We see Saúl taking pictures of Adán and Conrado in the street.
Seven months have passed. We see Anastasia getting ready to leave a fancy rehabilitation center. Some shots of how difficult this was are shown. She wasn’t able to walk at first. She has a good relationship with her physical therapist. She tells this person that the baby she lost isn’t alone. The baby is in heaven with her 5 other babies.
Adán and Vero are moving from the apartments to a very nice house. Érica and Conrado are apparently also moving nearby. But Conrado has chosen to visit Anastasia instead of helping with the move. Lu told her mother she was staying behind to do some things to her old room. But she’s about to get it on with Chad. Vero comes back for something and catches them.
Vero has the conversation one would expect with her daughter. She’s very upset and asks if she’s taking precautions. Lu is pretty defiant and asks her mother if she was a virgin when she got married!
Vero walks away upset and runs into Iggy. Because she is in such a state she agrees to come to his apartment for a few minutes to calm down. The rat drops a pill in her tea. But the tea is too hot and Vero never really drinks it. She also hurries out because she picks up a bit of an instinct about what kind of guy he is when he tries too hard to get her to stay.
Anas has come home. Gina is big as a house and Anas touches her stomach pensively. Renato has a surprise for her; he has brought Modesta, who’s wearing an eyepatch. Hmmm. Looks like the other times they mentioned her, in Florida, were mistakes by the writers.
We find out that Adán’s scheme for hiding the drug money is a luxury car business. They also bring the drugs inside these cars! Renato tells Anas that there’s been no sign of any Colombian activity in Miami. He thinks they’ve gone away. Anas doesn’t believe it. Besides she wants revenge for what they did to her.
Érica is eating something at their new house. She’s furious with Conrado for leaving her to deal with the move alone. She also is picking up something about Anastasia. She tells him he doesn’t love her the way he used to. But he manages to win her over and they end up in bed. They do mention that her movie has not yet come out.
Anas comes to visit Adán at his new house. Vero calls her Muriel and Anas corrects her, saying she’s Anastasia Cardona. Vero keeps asking pointed questions. When Vero leaves to make drinks, Adán is furious with Anas for showing up, saying she knows his wife doesn’t know what’s going on.
Gina has gone for a doctor’s appointment and Elias shows up. I hoped we’d not see him again for a good long while. He seems to be trying to make it up with Gina. But she tells him she loved Nat for himself not for his money.
Daytona tries to buy marijuana from Luciana. Apparently she’s been selling it all along. That’s odd. Did she continue to steal from Conrado and he hasn’t noticed? Anyway Lu says she’s done and won’t sell any more. Daytona goes right to the school principal. The principal makes Lu open up her locker.
At the warehouse we see that Gina is onto Conrado. She tells him he’s not selling more coke than ever to please the customers, but to please Anastasia and thus end up with everything! She calls him un trepador (social climber usually, but in this case climbing the ladder by ending up with the boss is what I think she means).
After Gina leaves Conrado starts putting moves on Anas. She does like the attention and responds to his kisses. But she tells him it can’t work. He’s married, and she prefers to have him as a friend and business associate.
The school principal has called Adán and Vero in and has shown them the marijuana he found in Lu’s locker. Lu runs out, and Daytona tells her parents she left with Chad. Daytona figures out that Adan is Lu’s father. A cop shows up.
Julia, I loved your revenge plot! LoL
Andrea could clearly see that something was fishy with Irina and Dario. I guess Sofia has a lot on her mind, but that's no excuse. Irina just needs to tell her the whole truth.
I was shocked to see that Cayetana discovered Leo with his lover. She should have went straight to Sofia with that information, not decide to allow him to stay because of the baby. I think he'll spin things saying he loved her all along.
Vicky, te lo dije, say what you have to say on the phone.
It is all Fernanda's fault. How can she still remain silent knowing what she knows?
-Hombre, hecho y derecho
Muchas gracias, novelera!
Tierra
I haven't finished watching last night's episode, but watching Valverde I think I remember that waaaay back at the beginning we were informed that Fernandez and Jose Anotonio Gallardo (is that the name?) were partners. Both of them were investigating Valverde and arms trafficking. That would definitely explain how Valverde and Gallardo Sr. know each other.
Again, someone who knows more please clarify.
Hi Sara: I think you are right. Definitely, the boys' connection with Fernandez came through their father, whom I think was a cop, too. I'm sure there was some connection with Valverde since this is a telenovela!
And the wall came tumbling down (with Cayetana) so the Reyes brothers are BUSTED as construction workers!
Many thanks, novelera. I enjoyed the recap more than the episode. I found the beginning rather confusing. I knew that 7 months had passed, but I was still unclear about the time sequence. One minute Anas wasn't able to walk well (even as she was leaving the rehab place), and the next minute she's in great shape. Oh well....
Why did Anas spare the life of the guy who came to kill her? I don't understand her motivation, since she's certainly out for vengeance against the guys who assaulted her earlier (I don't remember whether all 3 of them raped her, or just Iggy, but surely pulling out her breathing tubes and being about to shoot her is no less serious than rape).
I also don't understand why Renato et al. decided to imprison the guy in the cellar for many months, nor why Quezada & Co. didn't make an attempt to come after them, since it was Quezada who ordered the guy to kill Anas, and surely Quezada would realize that if the guy didn't return and his body didn't turn up, it was likely that Anas & Co. had him or killed and disposed of his body.
I was happy that Vero didn't drink Iggy's tea. I hope you're right, novelera, that she's now getting wise to him. She seems so naive in so many ways....
I enjoyed NovelaMaven's renaming Los Miserables as Los Improbables. I had that "improbable" vibe concerning the scene between Iggy and Vero. He seemed far too polished and educated. His performance in that scene just didn't seem to fit with the way he is most of the time.
Since Luciana had decided not to sell marijuana again to Daytona, why does she have some in her locker? Has she been selling marijuana not just to Daytona but to other classmates as well? If not, why would she store the stuff in her locker? I wondered if perhaps Daytona had planted it, but I doubt that Daytona has lots of extra marijuana around to use for the plant.
Thanks, NovelaMaven, for the new page and the interesting info about the actor who plays Adán. BTW, I too subscribed to People en Español, but just for a year. I then switched to TVyNovelas, but I didn't stay with that one, either.
Variiopinta, thanks for the link to the interesting article about the Queen of the Pacific. It does relate well to Dueños.
HOSPITAL, LUCHA'S ROOM as she prepares to go home (gracias a dios)
Vicki asks & Lucha confirms that Roxanita's stuffed animal was at the beach house when Cesar was murdered. "Yeah, and so what's this all about?" asks Lucha.
"I know this is uncomfortable for you, but what else do you remember from that day. (I'd like to know too, because I missed all those early episodes).
"It's just as I told the judge; I saw the back of the guy who killed Cesar."
"A guy?, not a woman?"
"Look, a lot was happening, but the one thing I remember is that thatmiserable asesino wanted some computer memory and forced Cesar to give it to him"
"So do you know what was in that memory?" asks a glum-looking Vicki.
"Nope, but it had to have been muy grave for them to have killed Cesar. Why are you asking all this? What's up?
Vicki backpedals saying, "I don't know either; when I find out I'll tell you." Dun-da dun dun!
At which moment, "Rafael" enters and Vicki retakes possession of the peluche. She backs away reluctant to engage with his over-friendly advances. "Call me tío" "Uh, no thanks"
OUTDOOR RESTAURANT
Dan & Marina continue their lunch date; she whines, "Are you sure you really want to be with me? (U-u-u-uf!) "Yeah, sure, I like you a lot." "But you don't lu-u-u-ve me ¿verdad?" (A-a-a-rgh!)
So she launches into some vaguely psychiatric reason why in his tormented state he needs an emotionally stable relationship and she's there to take care of that. He says, Yeah maybe, they continue eating as she smirks smugly.
HOSPITAL, DON IGNACIO'S ROOM
Lilian asks, how are you feeling with your new heart? "Like a 15-year old" Iggy smiles back holding his wayward daughter's hand. Fernanda stands back holding her own hands in a nervous fit as the obviously sedated Don Ig asks LIliana forgiveness for having neglected her in the past. I think perhaps the iron-clad Lil might be giving into real feelings here, as she puts off this display of paternal penitence. She sniffles a bit (hmmm). Fortunately the nurse interrupts to do his bath.
HOSPITAL, LA CAPILLA
Vicki sits on a pew and fiddles with the damn peluche. Yanking the memory out of its slot and then shoving it back in. "How can so much evil be stored in this little thing?" She sets the bizarre creature on the seat beside her as her phone rings. It's Octavio and she has to run out to pick up the WiFi, leaving the peluche behind on the church pew.
CASA DURAN, LA FONDA
Apparently they are re-opening for business. Consuelo & Elena set out brightly-colored tablecloths; they hope to get new customers who aren't prejudiced by the unfortunate rat incident. Chelo's got some great food cooked up! Elena is about to head out to the park for a walk with her kid. But before she can leave, some repo men show up. Evidently the loan was sold to a collection agency. Elena figures out who's behind this new dastardly deed. Chelo says we can pay the debt, but it's Sunday and no banks are open. The repo goons don't care, they've got a job to do and manage to haul off a couple of chairs before Abel arrives and strong arms them out the door. Elena shouts after them to tell Radames Echeverria not to mess with her family.
HOSPITAL
Fernanda & Lily march down the hallway; Lil's outta there, it's not safe for her. Fernanda says "But what have you done wrong? I know you had something to do with the attempt on Lucha."
"Chill, Ma, you know I can't stand it that you wont defend me." "Please, tell the truth, I'm dying of anxiety. Promise me you had nothing to do with that."
"Nope! I'm not saying anything; because you only believe what you want."
Vicki overhears, and pursues Lil calling out "Asesina". Well, this is not a smart move as she continues to blab about what she's seen on the flash drive. Lil starts manhandling her; at that very moment, Fernanda, who I guess might have been close enough to intervene in this scuffle, gets called into Iggy's room because something's wrong
Accusations fly back & forth. Lily finds out that Vicki's seen the video and has concluded the reason for Cesar's murder. It gets ugly, Vicki wont even call her auntie anymore. Lil defiantly admits it all: Lucha & Cesar. (Vicki's bitten off a little more than she can chew here)
Meanwhile Sor Mili wanders into the chapel for some contemplation to the accompaniment of an angel chorus and plops down rather unceremoniously on the abandoned peluche. "What the heck is this?"
HOSPITAL, LUCHA'S ROOM (which she has not yet vacated)
The kids arrive with Deya; they're all excited about the fancy new digs where they're going to live, with a pool and everything. "What's this?" asks Lucha (always the last to know). Sor Mili (who is now called Madre, I guess) arrives to deliver Roxi's stuffed (literally) pet. "What the heck is this doing here?" "Oh, Vicki left it behind in the chapel" "There's something strange about this I can't figure out"
BACK IN THE HALLWAY
Lil admits to being a murder and so "You know what I'm capable of, so give me back that memory drive." "I don't have it" Vick makes a break, Lil runs after. The two girls continue their scuffle to an isolated back area, where looms .... (you guessed it!) A STAIRCASE! (Telenovela formula Numero Uno: Staircase + pregnant protagonista + villainess = we must be getting close to the end). And, so Vicki ends up on the landing half a flight down. At this very moment...
BACK IN LUCHA'S ROOM
Lucha has a mal presentimiento, and...
BACK IN THE STAIRCASE
Lily runs down, panicked & increasingly hysterical; Vicki is out cold, with an open head wound bleeding all over the landing.
BACK IN LUCHA'S ROOM
Sor Mili comes to say her goodbye and tells Lucha was a great nurse she is and she'll see her first thing in the morning. (what is it a week, since she had essentially heart surgery?) The stuffed animal issue arises as they watch Roxi shaking it around. "Where did it come from?, Why was Vicki so preoccupied with it?" this convo alarms out two young superheroes who excuse themselves to go conference in the hallway. "Be good, don't go too far and don't bother the patients." "OK Ma, we're just going out to get some water" Deya & Lucha puzzle over the significance of this stupid-looking thing. The kids run out into the hallway; they weigh the pros & cons of revealing that Vicki knows what's on the memory stick. And the verdict is: "Mum's the word; we won't tell anybody."
THE OUTDOOR RESTAURANT
These two are still at lunch; deciding how to spend the rest of the afternoon on their hot date which is about to get hotter. She concedes a picnic would be fun...in his bed! He asks for the check
HOSPITAL, IGGY'S ROOM
"But where did Liliana go?" he asks anxiously. Seriously Iggy, get a clue. fortunately his pathetic gloom is relieved by the sudden appearance of Memin & Roxi (carrying the peluche). Sweet grandpa + grandma scene.
BACK IN THE STAIRWELL
Liliy tries, desperately to arouse Vicky; she's out cold and bleeding from the head. Of course this is all Vicki's fault
HOTEL FARAON, RADAMES SUITE
Rad & "Raf" (Oleg) are having a drink. Oleg wants Rad to lean on his senator friend to help him get rid of that pest of a Daniel Ponce. "What are you gonna do, kill him?" "Nah, I'm going to ruin his career where it hurts; But you've got to invite your senator friend here to the Imperial suite on whatever pretext you like.
As they walk out into the lobby, they conclude their shady arrangement; Elena arrives fresh from the incident with the collection agent. Olegario takes his leave. Elena lights into him right in front of hotel guests. He tries to haul her off to the privacy of his office. "What for, so you can beat me the way you beat up all women? He tries to shut her up as other people start to notice. Nothing doing, she addresses the public at large, "The 'honorable' Radames Echeverria is a woman beater." She continues so that all can hear about the many times she's been hospitalized, for broken bones and that his first wife committed suicide because of his mistreatment. He's forced to back from the threat of public disgrace. She threatens him to that if he doesn't leave her family alone; "if it's war you want, war is what you'll get; from this moment on, I am your worst enemy and I'm not afraid."
Thanks for the excellent recap, Novelera. This was almost like a new show, so many things had changed. So I liked that part of it. As for all the things which didn't add up or weren't explained, all we can do is "tighten our beanies."
Anas has some sort of plan for Victor Manuel, but we don't know what it is. She purposely didn't want him killed, but will somehow use him against Leandro. It sort of looked as if VM may be losing his mind.
Speaking of that, I laughed when Elias said to Gina "I knew my father better than anyone, and no one their right mind could fall in love with him!" But she did.
When Lu said to her Mom, I have something important to tell you, I thought she'd say I'm pregnant, but it was only, I'm in love with Chad. She never did answer as to whether she's "taking precautions" (using birth control).
I still think that Vero only partially mistrusts Iggy. Despite several slips that he made (knowing Chad's name, not really explaining where his own kid is, etc.), she call still fall into one of his traps. I think she also told him the name of the new development they're moving to.
I can't imagine how Adán and Lu are going to get out of the marijuana thing. Good thing we have creative writers!
HOSPITAL
Lucha is still having the mal presentimientos. Deya tells her everything's going to be OK. Look on the bright side. The kids rush back in. They can't wait to go to their new digs with "Rafa". Octavio shows up looking for Vicki. It's all very weird, nobody knows where she is and she's not answering her phone. Lucha following her presentimiento, follows Octo out. They look for him in Iggy's room. Nope, not there. "Why, is something wrong?" "Well, last night she said she had something serious to tell me."
Lily starts ransacking the unresponsive body of her sobrina, in a desperate (and fruitless) search for "la maldita memoria" She runs away.
Octo calls Chelo; she knows nothing; Lucha calls Vicki and the phone rings and rings next to her unconscious body in the stairwell.
DANIEL'S LUV SHACK
They dispense with the preliminaries and start out with mimosas; she begs him never to break her heart. They move from the couch to the bed and she has the opportunity to show us her lovely black lace brassiere. I think she needs a good shampoo, her hair is a bit stringy. When they wake up between the pink sheets, he's staring pensively in the other direction; she wants to know if they're "a thing" now. He looks a bit remote for a minute, but then, they go at it again.
THE CRIMINAL'S HIDEOUT
Lily arrives agitated. "¡no puede ser, no puede ser! Why did you have to go and die, Vicki, why?" Genaro wants to know what's got her so upset. He's a bit astounded at her story, more about the memory that has surfaced than about Vicki's supposed death. He's got it all figured out: if nobody saw you, you didn't do it, so what's the problem? But did you get the memory? Lily cries in uncharacteristic remorse; Genaro tells her to cool it and questions her about the possibilty that this could be the original disk. How could Vicki have gottenit. Liliana, stressed out, won't answer any more.
HOSPITAL
Lucha is packing her bags, asking the kids how was their evening with Vicki. "Oh fine, but Vicki was kind of 'cucu' ". What do you mean "cucu" Roxi chalks it up to worrying about the bebe. "Rafael" walks in bring them all "home". He leans in for a kiss on the mouth, she swerves to avoid this "not in front of the kids". [Yikes, she's walking straight into the lion's den] the kids meanwhile are jumping with glee "que se besen, que se besen.."
Octavio runs back through the corridor again, Lucha and the gang stop and get his anxious story. Lucha decides to stay and get to the bottom of this, despite "Rafa's" pleading that the kids are tired and hungry. She tearfully pleads the mal presentimiento again. They argue a bit with the upshot that he's gonna go out and take care of some business and will come pick them up when she calls. The kids are a bit bummed because they're dying to get to their own bedrooms and that swimming pool. But Lucha stands firm.
His phone rings as he turns to leave; It's Genaro with the serious news about Lily & the memory stick.
CASA ECHEVERRIA
Elena marches confidently into (her) house, thinking "selective amnesia?" and flashing back to a scene when Rad had the combo changed on his safe: "Helen of Troy 10". He said he trusted her completely placed himself in her hands. She thinks, "well, with this combination I own all your secrets; let's see if it's true." Rosa, the faithful housekeeper greets her warmly; Marina does not and slams her with bitchy insults, getting on the phone to "Tio" immediately. "Whaaah, she hit me." Elena, The Invincible and goes straight to the safe; opens the door and removes a sheaf of papers, leaving behind several banded stacks of paper money. She calls Pablo.
A LUNCH COUNTER SOMEWHERE
Evaristo tries to horn in and pick up the tab for Marisela's sandwich She wants nothing to do with him. He wants to clear his name in the matter of Adriana. Mari blows him off.
POLICE HQ
Pablo greets Elena warmly; she declares right away that this is not a social call; "I've come to help you get Radames I want that guy to pay for all his crimes and I've got hold of these papers; read them and find out if there's anything in here you can use. I want you to know that I am your ally in this. I want to see him in jail" He says OK; and how are you mi amor. She gently but firmly says "Don't mi amor me. You know it's over between us." He says "I know, I know, but you've changed, you're not that fragile porcelain doll you used to be; I like the new strong you, too." She puts an end to that in less than gentle words, and rebuffs all his attempts. so loudly, in fact, that they get an audience.
HOSPITAL, ADRIANA'S ROOM
Adri (still in her hospital johnny in the bed), Abel & Octo discuss Vickie's disappearance. It's worrisome, but Adri says "we have to stay calm" (it's her pre-eclampsia mantra). Octo's convinced something's happened.
DANIEL'S LUV SHACK
Octavio bursts in (don't these people lock their doors?) on our amorous couple. He can't find Vicki! "What were you guys fighting again?" "No, but she told me she'd discovered something terrible & we arrange to meet and now I can't find her anywhere." He's got the presentimiento too. He's pretty much destroyed their mood and convinced Dan to come to the hospital and help him search. Marina tags along.
HOSPITAL, IGNACIO'S ROOM
Fernanda, standing by the bed flashes back to the earlier scene she had overheard/witnessed in the hallway where Liliana was manhandling Vicki, just when Fernada was called away by the nurse. She stands by the bedside looking stricken. Iggy can't help but notice; he calls her on it; she denies.
HOSPITAL, HALLWAY
The kids fiddle with that darn stuffed animal; taking the memory out or putting it back in; I think we're supposed to be in the dark about where it actually ends up. Meanwhile, Lucha, Deya and Neno confer about Vicki's last whereabouts. Lucha's convinced about foul play, she mutters under her breath as the smiling Chelo pops in. they can't hide their concern. Chelo's bubbly smile morphs into anxious concern.
THE CRIMINAL'S HIDEOUT
Diablo arrives, he's annoyed. "What's the big emergency?" He takes this opportunity to hurl the blame for Anselmo's death at them. Genaro intervenes. "We've got bigger problems here." Diablo shrugs it off contemptuously, "Hey, that's your problem. What's it got to do with me? That video shows you and you and my brother, but not me."
HOSPITAL
Octavio leads Dan & Marina around on a clueless wild goose chase. "She probably just turned off her phone or something." They're in some back hallway; he elevator isn't coming fast enough. So...what we've all been waiting for, Octavio takes the back stairway, runs up to the first landing and..."Auxilio, auxilio..."
Sara is right about Gallardo sr being a cop. In the earlier episodes Fernandez apologized to brothers for not solving their parents murders (Valverde killed them?).
Sofia- Leo threatened to kill her baby and its daddy when he finds out. She needs to grow a spine! Last night I was screaming at my TV!
Nena-I did not watch the previous versions. I like her, hope she enjoys happiness with Samuel for a little while. Does she have to die for Andrea to get her HEA? Andrea is not doing anything for me. Nena would be a good ally for the brothers when the pandora box opens!
Star
Star-oh thanks for that reminder about the Gallardos being killed. That's important stuff I bet.
Dueños
I was expecting an "Estoy embarazada" too.
Lu sold Daytona a pretty big brick of pot. Did she take one or two? Could one have lasted 7 months?
Okay i watch this novela every week night on the dot. It is getting really good and after Monday's episode, i must say damn the Gallardo brothers are busted. Oh well good thing they have a friend whose a cop but either way they can always go work with the Nena. I mean like it would be the obvious thing to do. Looks like Andrea won't be happy from the previews but yet the girl always convinces her mother to let them stay. I love Veronica and Pablo even if i feel bad for Rocio. She was trying real hard and was making progress and Veronica just came and swooped him up like a hawk. They do make the most adorable couple and good for her for not giving a damn about their social statuses even though Veronica is really Soledad's daughter. Anyway can we talk about Soledad for a minute. That lady is getting really annoying. She is becoming as annoying as Patricia. I know she is Veronica's mother and all but damn talk about being a metiche. Okay done rant over!!
Favorite couple is
1.Veronica and Pablo
2. Tie between Andrea and Samuel and Irina and Flavio
3. Cayetanna and Nestor
not feeling Arturo and Sofia anymore.
Thanks a bunch, Novelera. My recording failed me yesterday, right as Iggy had Vero drinking the doped tea. So glad to hear she got out unscathed. less people shot! - Amen to that.
Wondering what Iggy's plan was anyway. Rape? Take naughty pictures? My take is Iggy's got just enough upbringing from a good ma or grandma that he can fake decency a bit, but then he makes rough mistakes like pushing the tea too hard that cause Vero to back up. The other day with the baby, he didn't even come ready beforehand with a fake name for his "son" and had to scramble for “David” on the spot.
Yay, Modesta is alive and back! Doesn't add up, but I liked her in the premiere episode.
Boo, Conrado is coming onto Anas. I think he still loves Erica and of course she better not cheat on him, but hey doing whatever is on his menu.
I was thinking Victor Manuel was a goner and I wouldn't get to ever hear Quezada yell his name anymore, but I guess not.
Lu probably didn’t answer her mom about using protection because “duh” she didn’t think about it. Otherwise, Lu could’ve finessed her mom with her knowledge of condoms.
Juanita, all 3 raped Anas. The other two were killed.
Niecie reminded me-- was Modesta saying that Anastasia was the only one who truly loved her niño Nataniel? Why did I think she was exclusively loyal to Anastasia? I mean I never had an inkling that Nat was the niño de su cariño so to speak. Not a big thing, just a thing that made me go "hmm."
thanks so much novelera!
these shows that skip along and tell you what happened, well, I could make a pretty long list of the things you've cleared up for me.
some other things I remembered while reading your recap are...
one of the things that tipped Vero was no pictures of David junior, so Iggy rented a place near Panorama Villas, but I think he got some info on her new location. but how will he work this into his chance meetings?
(the way Conrado and Adan live is sure different from say Aurelio Casillas with the guarded mansions and rings of security)
I think Lu stole 2 bricks of marijuana (that no one seemed to have missed) which may have carried Daytona, but where did the new stuff come from, had to be planted since Daytona led the Pricipal there, and didn't Chad already put a teddy bear or something in her locker earlier. but I was surprised Daytona would cut off her supplier out of spite.
after Vero's tirade about Anas' two names, and then Abel? who's Abel, ha!, the phony name Chad stuck on Adan is back to haunt him.
and I was thinking at least one of those earlier calls for Modesta where when Anas was away but Renato was keeping it as a surprise.
oh yea, then there is the part where Conrado and Adan didn't know about the guy in the basement, (not that they have basements in southern Florida), Adan still doesn't but Conrado was really upset to know they didn't tell him, but I think Anas said, it was to protect you.
so who believes Chad and Lu's love is a gran amor?
Victor Manuel (Gustavo Franco) has really been throwing me, ahha, he was the good guy lawyer in Dame Chocolate.
I've been counting the times Adan says "estás seguro" (are you sure) but last night he didn't say it, Vero did.
Vroooom! The sound of all those great 70's cars before the stupid environment ruined everything. Love the new convertible, but I'll miss the old woody station wagon. They could have fit a lot of drugs in the way back.
Vero did spill the name of the area they were moving to Iggy: something Bay. She really needs to listen to her instincts.
Kelly
Nice detailed recap Ixv. I was sleeping when I watched this episode, so I didn't catch what Radames and Olegario was talking about when Helena arrived. Thanks for filling in the details!
If I were to find a USB drive with a video of a murder, I would do one of three things: destroy it and keep my mouth shut, make multiple copy and send anonymously to several different persons in the police department and keep my mouth shut, or hide it and keep my mouth shut.
I would not try to bribe the murderer, like Gaston and Nuria. I would not yell "murderer!" when I see the person and say that I have a video of them comitting a murder. I also would not call anyone and say that I have something very important to tell them but can't over the phone!
-Hombre, hecho y derecho
wow, thanks lxv!
let's see, way back when, Lucia and Cesar show up at the beach house, looking for Vicky and blind Octavio (who escaped from the hospital and are hiding out but they have just left because Octavio is having headache problems), they decide to stay and rest awhile before driving back, Lucia goes for a walk on the beach, meets the fisherman, Genaro and Lili show up looking for the flash drive, Cesar hides it in the teddy bear they bought for Roxana, Lili shoots Cesar, but gets all worried so Genaro sends her out to the car while he searches, Lucia comes back, Cesar is not dead but warns her off, the fisherman sees Lili outside, Genaro finishes off Cesar who writes an L in blood. Lucia runs to him after the bad guys leave, now covered with his blood, she grabs her stuff (bag with teddy bear) and takes off, eventually running into Carlos, faints, who gives her a ride.
Is it true for everyone, as I find, that posts beyond the 200th do not appear unless you click on "Post a Comment" and then on "Newest"?
Just curious. Thank you.
Aficionada
yep, the Blogger only does 200 comments per page, before starting another page,
and on the "Post a Comment" page will be links to 'newer, 'newest', etc.
Agnes, what a splendid recap you've given us. I'm glad you included so much telling detail -- it was just that kind of episode. Thank you for this and all the other recaps you have written here.
Perhaps my favorite line from last night's gem (among so many) was this:
It's worrisome, but Adri says "we have to stay calm" (it's her pre-eclampsia mantra).
I also loved your description of the sad coupling of Marina and Daniel, including your mention of the black lingerie (ie, she showed up at brunch loaded for bear).
Hombre, h & d, you sound like someone I'd like to have around in a crisis, but not a very good candidate for a telenovela character. Your logical thinking would take a multi-month tale and scrunch it down to the size of a feature movie... which is not such a bad idea, of course.
So, kids, I'll give it a try tonight (Tuesday). Aficionada, if Wednesday turns out to be a problem, just let me know.
Duenos
Anas will do something to Gina once el bebe is here. Why are those brats living there?
NvMvThanks for your kind compliments. I still have to learn to condense (and proofread) But this was one of those episodes.
Romy: "I knew no good would come of it." And you were right. They're really putting us through the wringer with this mala noticia.
and Aficionada as I mentioned above, I need to learn to summarize better. But somehow, I just couldn't this time. Besides, I'm really trying to get my Spanish together and not just skim, so it's sort of worth it to me, if you can all bear with the extra verbiage.
LXV, bring on "the extra verbiage"! That was a fantastic recap! Such great detail!
More comment late tonight, but just have to say thank you so much!!
And thanks to all, for great comments!
NovelaMaven, thank you so much! I WILL be able to recap wednesday's show on thursday; but the one I am not sure of is thursday night's show on friday. I will say if I can or not, asap.
Hasta luego

deb my comment to you missing. With such economy and accuracy, you filled in the details I needed. It's saved me hours of going back through old episodes to recreate that whole plot sequence. The only thing I don't understand is why was Octavio blind. Or is this just some circumstance with no bearing on the plot, in which case, ignore my question.
Lxv, "Octavio va a casa de Vicky a entregarle su moto, por lo que ella se ofrece a llevarlo a su casa pero en el camina chocan con un auto de frente, cayendo abruptamente." Octavio hit his head hard and temporarily lost his vision. Did it have a bearing on the plot? Well, it was a reason to have him in the hospital. Everyone has to spend some time in the hospital?
-Hombre, hecho y derecho
Gracias Hombre h&d, Temporary blindness, selective amnesia. Whatevah. I adore telenovelas. thanks for clarifying. This one's really moving right along. Just saw tonight's epi. and I'm not going to jump the gun with comments 'til tomorrow.
THE FRANTIC RACE TO THE OR
Vicky is wheeled away on a stretcher. Daniel hugs Octavio while skanky Marina hangs on, looking uncertain and out of place. Lucha runs after the medical team, leaving Deya to see to the kids and deal with telling Chelo what has happened.
The team rolls down the hall. Multiple contusions, possible fractures. She needs an emergency cesarean. We need to operate now!
YOU'RE WORSE THAN I AM!
Lily and Diablo trade barbs, Genaro jumping in here and there, but Olegario senses there's something going on beyond the usual posturing. Lily tells him about Vicky. He laughs. This is hilarious! She has surpassed herself! Is she trying to be even worse than he is? "Shut up, shut up, shut up! I didn't kill her! It was an accident!"
Despite Gonzalo's misgivings, Lucha insists on being in the OR. It's her niece!
POLICE STATION: A GOTCHA MOMENT
As Pablo wades through the papers Elena left with him, something catches his eye. "This may work for us. Prepare yourself, Radamés!"
LIFE AND DEATH IN THE BALANCE
A newborn's cry. Gonzalo places Vicky's healthy baby girl in Lucha's waiting arms. But an alarm sounds! Vicky is in cardiac arrest! Gonzalo applies the paddles ...
Outside in the corridor, Daniel is trying to reassure Octavio. Now Elena has joined Chelo in her grim vigil. Abel and Adriana (still in her white hospital gown) are there too. Only Fernanda is absent: she is with Ignacio, who is, of course, kept in the dark.
Lucha, her face revealing her absolute emotional devastation, walks toward the group very slowly, cradling the baby in her arms. "Why are you crying, Lucha?" asks Octavio. "How is Vicky?" asks Chelo anxiously. Lucha is silent. Chelo asks again. And again. What happened to Vicky? "Vicky...died." Chelo explodes in grief and disbelief and then collapses, sobbing, in Elena's arms. Octavio weeps against Daniel's chest. Lucha stands, stricken, still holding the baby. She and Daniel exchange a sorrowful glance...
YOU CLOWNS MAY BE IN TROUBLE, BUT RAFAEL MONTES HAS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT
Lily, Olegario and Genaro are in the warehouse. The problem with the missing 'memoria,' explains Lily, is that it shows all three of them torturing their victim. "But you're the one who shot him full of holes," says Olegario gleefully. He doesn't give a rat's patootie about the flash drive. It has nothing to do with Rafael Montes. While Lily is telling him he should care, he gets a call from his Santa. He takes about 3 seconds to exorcise el Diablo and turn into Rafael before he answers the phone, feigns shock at the news and promises to come to the hospital right away. Then he turns back to Lily and gives her a Diablo smirk. At least she doesn't have to worry about Vicky talking. But Lily is distraught. Vicky was the darling of the family. If they find out she was responsible for her death, they'll all hate her! Woe is I!
HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN?
Abel confronts Gonzalo. "How could you have let Vicky die on the table?" Internal hemorraging, says Gonzalo. Massive head injury... they only had time to deliver the baby. But really, nobody understands why Vicky had to die. And no one is taking much solace in the baby right now. Lucha carries the little girl to the nursery, telling Roxy and Memin to wait for her.
The kids are convinced that Vicky died because of the "secret weapon," and they resolve to hide it away so no one else is harmed.
Chelo's grief gets the better of her again and she starts shrieking Vicky's name. She wants to see her daughter! VICKY! MI HIJA!! (Hey Gonzo -- why can't she see her?)
ARE YOU GETTING DEAF, WOMAN?
Chelo's screams reach Ignacio's room. He recognizes her voice. Fernanda says she heard nothing. Exasperated, he sends her outside to find out what is going on. She leaves with obvious reluctance. Once outside Ignacio's room, she hesitates before finally joining the rest of her family, held back by her guilt and fear.
"She was my baby," Chelo sobs to Fernanda. "I lived for her!" Shush shush shush, says Fernanda, embracing her daughter but also trying to get her to contain her grief so Ignacio will not hear her.
Octavio also wants to see Vicky and say goodbye to her. Gonzalo agrees and leads him to her.
Carlos shows up. Who told him? "I did," says Marina with a little hint of pride.
OCTAVIO SAYS GOODBYE TO HIS TRUE LOVE
"You were the only one who really knew me, the only one who was really there for me. You were my love and I was yours. What am I going to do without you?" He kisses her face, which has already taken on the pallor of death.
The pediatrician assures Lucha that the baby is fine, despite being small and premature.
Sor Milagros has just learned of the tragedy. "Ay, son los misterios de Dios, hija." But Lucha says Vicky's death wasn't God's decision. There is something very murky around here and they have to find out what it is. Lucha glances up and sees ... Vicky! She tries to tell Sor Milagros about the fleeting apparition, but then thinks better of it.
Roxy gives Memín the flash drive and tells him to find a good hiding place for it. The next thing we know, he is limping a bit. He tells the adults his shoes hurt and he has a blister on his foot.
TELL ME WHO DIED!
Ignacio appears in the corridor, IV pole and all. He isn't going back to his room until they tell him who died. It is, finally, Chelo who tells him and then falls into his embrace. He won't be sent away, but he does allow Elena to ease him onto the couch.
OCTAVIO ASKS -- AND VICKY ANSWERS HIM!
Octavio asks Vicky's body: What did you know? What did you find out that cost you your life? And then he remembers the damning conversation they overheard in the Echeverría house -- Liliana demanding that Radamés hide her ("Don't you get it that if the cops get me, they've got you too? ... The Diablo isn't dead!"). He puts that together with Vicky's words to him the night before -- "Something terrible happened. I never thought there was that much evil in the world."
AND I'LL BE THE ELIOT NESS OF MEXICO!
Pablo shows Rodriguéz and rat bastard informer López the precious papers. Radamés will go down just like Al Capone did! For tax evasion? For that and for money laundering for the narcos. The hotel is just a front.
LA CASA ECHEVERRÍA
Ivana, seething with resentment, tells Radamés how Elena took a bunch of papers from his safe. He affects nonchalence (although he is a constitutionally nervous and sweaty guy and doesn't really have a flair for this sort of thing).
HOSPITAL
Lucha asks Deya to take care of the children for her. While she is talking, she sees Vicky again. The image lasts for just a second or two. Deya sees nothing but does a double-take at Lucha's reaction to... what?
NO MOTIVE, NO EVIDENCE, NO CRIME
Daniel and Alejandro inspect the landing where Vicky fell. Does Alejandro think it was a homicide. "No. What would be the motive?" And if someone killed her to keep her from talking? Alejo is skeptical. No signs of violence, he says.
Lucha convinces Ignacio to go back to his room. Chelo agrees to Gonzalo's sedative. Deya is about to take off with the kids. (Does anyone think they will ever get to splash around in that pool?) Roxy is still clutching the creepy muñeco de peluche. Lucha looks pensive and recalls Vicky's insistent questions about the doll. She asks Roxy if she can borrow it. The little girl hands it to her.
I TOLD YOU SO!
Marina pounces on Alejandro's conclusion that Vicky's death was an accident. She is concerned about Daniel's tendency to see everything as criminal. Carlos (who is really Marina's media naranja, just in case you hadn't noticed) is also sure Vicky's death was an accident. But just then Octavio appears to tell them that he knows differently.
Meanwhile Lucha does a rough cavity search of creepy muñeco and, of course, finds nothing. She sends Deya and the kids to Deya's place to pack. Lucha will pick them up later and take them to their new house. "Oh, and could you take a look at Memín's foot?" she asks Deya. "He says he has a blister."
Lucha finds her way to the chapel and has an anguished conversation with God. Why, God? Why? She hears footsteps behind her. "Vicky, honey, is that you?" But it's Daniel, who has somehow managed to shake off the annoying Marina. He tells Lucha Alejandro's conclusions (accident) and also Octavio's (murder). What does she think? She says she was worried by Vicky's state of mind, by her questions about the creepy doll, and by the fact that Vicky had seen Liliana in Radamés's house. Daniel hopes that Lily had nothing to do with Vicky's death -- for the sake of the family. "Ojalá," says Lucha grimly.
HOTEL FARAÓN, WHERE THE RATS SET THE TRAPS
Radamés baits the trap, as instructed by the smirking Diablo: he phones the corrupt old senator and invites him to enjoy a free weekend in the Imperial Suite. Then Radamés appeals for Diablo's help -- that prostitute of an ex-wife of his stole some compromising documents and he has to get them back. She probably gave them to "the gladiator," says Diablo. But no sweat. Once they take down Daniel Ponce, they others will fall like dominos. Bwahahahaha!
Octavio peers at the baby through the nursery window. Nurse Nancy will get him a gown so he can go inside and see his daughter.
Elena sits with Chelo. "I want to go to sleep and never wake up," says Chelo. "I want to die." "Come with me," says Elena.
Octavio holds his daughter. He is going to name her Victoria. He talks to her about her mother, about how valiant and beautiful she was, and he vows to devote his life to making little Victoria happy.
DEYA'S PLACE: GUILTY LOOKS AND STINKY FEET
Roxy shows Memín the ragdoll that her old mother gave her. It's the perfect place to hide the memoria. Memín reaches into his shoe, but stops and looks very guilty when Deya enters the room. Does he manage to palm the flashdrive? Deya thinks the kids are just trying to get out of bathing. She checks Memín's feet and finds that they are fine, just very stinky. He is shooed away to the bathroom. Roxy closes the bedroom door and then cuts open the ragdoll, and places the flash drive inside it. The perfect hiding place.
IGNACIO'S BEDSIDE
When the sedative wears off, Vicky will still be dead, says the old man bleakly. But if this blow didn't kill him, he knows he is going to survive. Abel tries to console Fernanda.
YOU WANTED A REASON TO LIVE?
Elena leads Chelo to the nursery, where Octavio is still holding baby Victoria. "Mi nieta." Then Octavio comes out, and he and Chelo embrace. They are going to need each other.
HAS ANYONE SEEN DANIEL?
Marina realizes that Daniel has gotten off his leash. Has Carlos seen him? At that moment, Rafagario hurries in looking for Lucha. The nurse tells him she's in the chapel. "That's odd," says Marina to Carlos. "Maybe Lucha and Daniel are together." "Gosh... I wouldn't know..." "What a lousy liar you are, Carlos," says Marina as she flounces away, possessed, perhaps, by a sudden urge to light a candle.
CHAPEL
Does Lucha think Vicky was distressed about the flash drive, asks Daniel, the one that got César killed? She doesn't know -- but why did such a terrible thing have to happen? How long is death going to keep dogging them? She gives in to her tears and leans up against him. He puts his arm around her shoulder. He hasn't had any luck keeping death at bay either.
UNHAND THAT WOMAN!
Rafagario appears in the doorway. He doesn't like the picture he sees. "¡Suelta a mi mujer!" Daniel stands and faces his nemesis.
{End of Episode}
Thank you for your great recap, NovelaMaven!
I had to read it immediately, needed to know about Vicky. Too awful. I mean, Vicky?!
"Rafagario." Perfect.
Carlos, "Marina's media naranja" - ¡Sí!
But my eyes are falling shut, so to be continued tomorrow.
Just …

Nice recap, Ixv!
I couldn't believe they didn't revive Vicky. So now, the one good person who 'knew' Rafeal was really El Diablo, is dead, and the kids have hidden the memoria in an unrelated doll, we're back to square one - unless Fernanda talks. She needs a good kick in the... The papers could propel the story forward, but Lopez is involved there.
I wonder if Daniel and Olegario will fight in the Chapel again. That was not the appropriate time to be posessive of his wife. She may refuse to go with him to the new place with the swimming pool.
The next time he tries to kiss her, she should tell him that she only married him so the kids would be provided for if she died. But she didn't die, so back off. He can kiss her when she's dead.
Ivana looks and sounds like a real life bruja. Marina is only focused on one thing, despite all that's going on.
Gracias NvMv Now THAT was a recap. I'm still laughing at your cleverness! (And thank you for using media naranja in a sentence.)
"He takes about 3 seconds to exorcise el Diablo and turn into Rafael ..." I've seen him do this once before; as does an actor snapping into character before entering a scene. It's a nice reference to the fiction we're immersed in.
They sure have turned Ivana into the worst harridan. So ugly!
"AND I'LL BE THE ELIOT NESS OF MEXICO!" So I figure with Lopez on the team, it WILL take another couple of weeks to get to the bottom of this.
As frustrating as this is, it does seem realistic to me that the kids would continue to conceal the evidence. Another plot-extending device, but not unbelievable.
"Marina realizes that Daniel has gotten off his leash" as I've said before "U-u-u-f"
And Hombre h&d, I can't take credit for this brilliant piece of writing; your compliments should go to Novela Maven !
Que the hell!! They do a promo for the 50 Shades of Grey film as part of the story?!? Irina shows Sofia a preview on her computer and they both say that they want to see the film. Then Irina says that the star, whatever his name is, is cute but her guy, Flavio, is cuter. I've seen product placement but never anything like this unless I've blocked it out.
Oh sorry! Thanks NovelaMaven. I was still asleep when I wrote that. ;-)
-Hombre, hecho y derecho
I'm going to try to recap the Wednesday show each week, and maybe the Friday show, although that's less assured. For today, I have a few comments.
Wow! Adán's policy of never answering Vero's questions backfires bigtime, as Iggy tells her that Anas is a major drug dealer, and THAT's Adán's line of work! So she drives off, tears streaming down, and crashes her car (but she's okay). At home, she asks Lu, did YOU know?
Lu tells Adán those weren't her drugs, but she did steal the pot from Conrado and sell it.
Sal asks Elias to join Anas' cartel, and work undercover for the cops, and Elias agrees! Anas isn't sure she trusts him.
Conrado keeps trying to get it on with Anas, tho she says no way, he's a married man. But Erica is starting to stray, too, she's enchanted by Sergio's nightclub scene, and the fact that he says when her film comes out next month, EVERYONE will know her.
And Paola's birthday party in the SAME restaurant where Anas and Conrado are eating, with Renato standing guard. Anas sure had guts to go into the men's room where LQ was, and threaten his manhood with a blade!!!
Wow! Adán's policy of never answering Vero's questions backfires bigtime - lol
Hombre, thanks for the rundown.
I can’t figure out why Paola/Amelia is so down on her birthday. Wondering if the love she left behind in Colombia is real or if she just made that up to please her pop.
That bathroom scene with Anas & her blade and Quezada was some tense. These two are made for each other.
Great comments, Hombre. I don't remember their actually showing Elias agreeing to work for the DEA. I remember Ferrara making his offer and then Elias asking for a job. Of course I assumed that's what happened.
Did everyone notice that shark's grin from Iggy as Vero drove off in tears? They couldn't resist the cliché, could they? Nearly everyone who gets upsetting news: unfaithful lover, discovery of switched baby, trusted employee embezzled all the money, etc., nearly always drives erratically and crashes their car.
The marijuana in the locker IS confusing. Lu said she only sold once. Daytona wanted to buy for a big camping weekend. And Daytona somehow came up with two decent sized baggies to plant in Lu's locker? Lu's locked locker?
I liked Anas being SO straight with Conrado. Cut it out with the attempted seduction; it ain't going to happen.
And, yes, huge female version of cojones going into the men's after LQ. It was also poetic justice, considering the number of times he's pointed a pistol at his employees' family jewels.
Jean - before the show they were actually announcing they were going to show an exclusive trailer for "50 Shades of Grey".
so the cat's out of the bag, Irina told Arturo that it's his baby, and Leonardo told Cayetana that it's not his.
hmm, I was thinking the wall fell over because they weren't finished putting the rebar and cement inside the block, but I guess they are going with it was just bad work, and so the boys on their revenge knew they were doing a bad job ??
I didn't think that house was ever going to get done.
NvMv: "The kids are convinced that Vicky died because of the 'secret weapon,' and they resolve to hide it away so no one else is harmed."
lxv: "As frustrating as this is, it does seem realistic to me that the kids would continue to conceal the evidence."
Thank you for adding that. I had not gotten it. It does show some kid-think perceptiveness in the writing, now that I see it that way.
I will recap tonight's capitulo, tomorrow. I am pretty sure I can also do tomorrow, thursday night's, on friday. I will say when I am sure.
Thank you, all, for making it possible to 'watch' even when I can not actually watch it (especially distressing as this show heats up)!! THAT is remarkable talent! GREAT writers here!
¡Tienen un buen día!

lxv - if you didn't see the beginning...
the story begins when Octavio comes across his mother, Deborah (Cesar's wife, Radamés' daughter), boinking her tennis instructor, this really affects him and he goes rogue, meeting Vicky, who's a bit of a wild woman, she invites him on a date, to go bungee jumping, they ride around on her moto, and later she invites him to a rendezvous in a hotel, I think it's his first time, but wait, it's also Vicky's first, and so life goes on with Vicky constantly at odds with her dad, Gaston, (and I'm fuzzy on this) she stomps off all upset, climbs on her moto, Octavio worried for her climbs on too, and they crash, Octavio hits his head, but is alive, but is blind, and Vicky will not forgive herself.
it seems like there was something else going on here, but anyway Octavio escapes from the hospital and he takes Vicky to the beach house, where Cesar figures it out, but Lucia is also looking for Vicky, whom she hasn't seen since her return from prison, and so they travel together, setting the scene for Cesar's death.
thanks so much Hombre!
anyone notice the collars on these guys shirts?
Gina pretty much told Elias to hit the road and not even think about showing up at the hospital when the baby is born. (he brought her a present but she didn't open it)
I guess Elias is living in a motel, Mauricio is following him and gives the address to Salvador.
(Saul is back on the team- kind of)
Modesta is busy straightening up the household, including Elias and Irene.
Victor Manuel escapes, but is recaptured in the drug lab, once again Anas says not to kill him, and I think she says to give him a bath.
when Vero runs to the 'journalist' David (Iggy) for info on Anas, she runs into Leandro, using his other name.
Chad is hiding out Lu at the school, they do it this time, Adan tracks them down, brings Lu home.
Vero makes it all the way home before crashing, and is helped by Anas and all of the narcos including her husband, what a nightmare, Adan trying to keep Anas out of the picture when it comes to his family is making her wonder, (she also quizzes Alejo earlier on Conrado).
I think in the end Vero tells Adan that she just doesn't want to know.
Deb, thanks for all of your additions and comments. Anas might have even told the guys to cut Victor Manuel's hair, besides the bath.
I bet this time Lu does get pregnant.
I got the feeling that Vero had a vague recollection of LQ's voice, since she heard him in that shopping mall, threatening Anas. We normal people can't recall stuff like this, but in telenovelas, they have these little movie projectors in their heads, and can just start "playback" and listen to the voice again. Maybe :)
Many thanks, Hombre, deb, and novelera, for all the helpful comments about last night's episode.
Novelera, you're right about the telenovela crashing car cliché. I think novela cars are programmed (even for shows set back in the 70s) to crash as soon as they sense that the driver has had disappointing news, too much to drink, etc.
I was again puzzled by Anas' sparing of Victor Manuel's life. She even told people to give him a bath and clean clothes. ???
One thing I smiled at was an exchange between Erica and Sergio. Not sure whether it was last night's episode or the previous one, but he tells her she's going to be more famous than Marilyn Monroe, and she says something having la mala suerte to have been born after her. She says this, of course, to Allstate's La Mala Suerte himself.
The wall of the house fell down because the Gallardo/Reyes boys didn't really know anything about building a house. Like the truth about Sofia's baby, the house-building cat is out of the bag and I don't think we will be hearing much about the house again.
It was a close shave for Soledad since she hired the brothers. Cayetana didn't seem to pick up on what the architect said - that Soledad told him the project had been postponed. She could hardly claim that she felt so sorry for the brothers that she let incompetent and unsupervised workers do a construction project.
Juanita, thanks! I also got the Mala Suerte inside joke but forgot to mention it in my comment.
I'm sure Anas has a plan for Victor Manuel. She just hasn't shared it yet with her "socios" or Viewerville. I think I remember her saying something negative to him about how employees are treated by LQ. Maybe she's planning to turn him and use him as a mole in LQ's operation.
When am I going to learn to proofread before I post? In the last paragraph of my message above, the next-to-last sentence should say "she said something ABOUT having la mala suerte to have been born after her." [Hmmm...I'm not sure how much that helps.]
Novelera, interesting idea about Anas' possible plan for Victor Manuel. I bet you're right, and apparently she knew about LQ's bad treatment of his employees, but how could she be sure Victor Manuel wasn't totally loyal to LQ?
I haven't seen last night's yet, but I love that the shoddy construction was finally revealed. My beanie deflects nearly all varieties of ridiculous shenanigans into the realm of acceptibility, but poor construction is something I will just not stand for! It violates my most deeply-held convictions!
And los hermanos Rey had NO CLUE what they were doing. I'm so relieved this was exposed before the house was miraculously "finished" and people were living with it. They were building in the style of completely unskilled laborers with no money or access to good materials and equipment in a corrupt poorly developed country with no building oversight or regulations. That would just not fly for wealthy people in Texas. They would have to have approved building plans and inspections. Absolutely nothing that we saw there was correctly or even rationally built. Maybe if they put some effort into actually learning their trades they could have paid their mortgage in the first place.
But anyway.
Sofia's explanation of why she was mad at Irina made absolutely no sense. It was clear Irina thought so, too, but wasn't quite sure how to tell Sofia exactly why what she was saying was stupid.
I have to confess that I was a little nervous about recapping last night. You have set the bar very high, my friends. I appreciate your kind reception and will gladly fill in whenever you need someone.
Aficionada, I can understand why you were so anxious to find out what happened in this episode. I wasn't at all sure how it was going to play out, but I kept hoping that the writers would spare little Vicky. (You should have seen me last night, sniffling and snuffling as I tried to compose myself and a recap at the same time.)
"kid-think perceptiveness in the writing"
Indeed! That is the perfect way to put it!
Hombre, h & d
To be mistaken for the superb LXV is a great compliment. I am also impressed by your sleepreading ability. Clearly, you are a man of many talents.
"He can kiss her when she's dead."
hah! From your mouse to ... Lucha's ears!
Will there be another lucha sobre la Lucha en la capilla? Vamos a ver...
I am thrilled that you enjoyed what I wrote. Thank for your gracious and generous comments.
'"He takes about 3 seconds to exorcise el Diablo and turn into Rafael ..." I've seen him do this once before; as does an actor snapping into character before entering a scene. It's a nice reference to the fiction we're immersed in.'
I'm so glad you chose to highlight that moment in the episode. It was perhaps my favorite, almost an actor's aside (though there was lots of virtuoso material last night with each character stepping up and grieving -- or not -- in a way that rang true individually. I wish I had thought to put a title on the whole thing: I would have called it "Bereft.")
deb
Thank you! I'm so glad you like the recap. And I appreciate your beautiful capsule summaries of what went on earlier in this novela. I did watch the first part, but I had forgotten some of that.
Oh, Hombre, H&D, thanks to you as well for filling in those details. The accident on the moto! Of course! (How ironic that we were all worried about Vicky getting hurt on her bike and in the end, she is a victim of what Doris imprecisely but hilariously calls 'escalericide.')
LXV and NovelaMaven...Thanks to both of you for the time you put into these excellent recaps! They make for good reading while riding public transportation to/from work.
My favorite character was dumbed down and murdered so I'm very lukewarm right now. Although I didn't originally think so, I guess it's good Vicky left the bear in the chapel, otherwise Lili would possess the strongest evidence against her. And of course Lucia finally investigates the stuffed animal after the flash drive is removed. Do we now have to wait for her to accidentally step on it to finally discover it.
Fernanda, by allowing her uncontrollable, criminal daughter to run wild, is definitely to blame. Will she ever confess what she knows about Lili, or will she continue to only think of herself (i.e. how distraught she'll be if Ignacio dies after learning the truth). Will Ignacio forgive her once he realizes how much Lili has harmed his family?
I thought the family was awfully calm after the death of a beloved, pregnant, teenager.
I'm still baffled as to why Marina thinks Daniel should be in love with her (so soon?), likewise when Deya wanted to marry Carlos (way too soon). The prostitute and psychiatrist both suffer from self-imposed love sickness or just desperation, and Marina's professional advice is equally self-serving.
Helena mumbled something about selective amnesia and having possession of Rad's secrets before returning to the house. However Rad apparently had access to the same safe since he knew what she took and told Diablo about it. Not sure how she's going to outsmart him if his memory is back. Perhaps by not expecting ANYTHING from her she’ll be able to catch him. If only she knew what Octavio knows… the two of them could work together.

deb thanks again for coming to the rescue. I did see Episode #1 and then nothing else until November, so your succinct, but dense, descriptions filled in not only plot elements, but detail about the personality of the characters. I would love to have seen a bit of Aaron Diaz without a cowboy hat, sigh. So Vicky was a bit of a "wild child". I had not realized; I only saw her as defiant and dedicated to truth & justice. Unfortunately she chose her time and place poorly. I would have told the truth to anybody but Liliana.
Aficionada & NovelaMaven Yes! about the psychology of the youngsters. "kid-think" indeed. I wonder how much terror they will internalize before they can break free & sueltan la sopa. I bet it will be a scene involving Roxi, Liliana and Lucha.
Hombre h&d Methinks Lucha will soon have proof positive of what she's been so strenuously denying to herself, ie: that she's married el diablo. That attempted kiss was so alarming to me, I can only imagine the ugly scenes ahead when they're alone in the new home (swimming pool notwithstanding). She's going to need a room of her own as well as the kids.
And I agree about Fernanda; she's got to step up to the plate! Lives depend on it and she's already squandered one. And we know she could've prevented it.
Hombre, thanks for volunteering to do tonight's (Wed) recap.
I'll put something up for Thursday, but it will probably be short and sweet. I have another book club (Gah, I'm in two! And have two Thursdays a month to go to different groups. Not to mention keeping up with the books.)
This Thursday's group is close to home so I will be able to watch and write something.
What a place, this ¡Caray, Caray!
Thank everyone for great recaps and comments!!
lxv: "where looms .... (you guessed it!) A STAIRCASE! (Telenovela formula Numero Uno: Staircase + pregnant protagonista + villainess = we must be getting close to the end)"
So true!!
I keep thinking that you all have created a veritable Telenovela Dictionary and Decoder!
Hombre, hecho y derecho: First, I hope your widowered heart is healing.
"… unless Fernanda talks. She needs a good kick in the … " Yes!
"Ojalá," as Lucha says. Please, someone help her SEE!!
"I wonder if Daniel and Olegario will fight in the Chapel again."
(NovelaMaven: "another lucha sobre la Lucha en la capilla?" LOL)
"He can kiss her when she's dead." Perfect! How I wish Lucha could think like you do, Hombre, h&d!
deb to lxv: "it seems like there was something else going on here … "
Is this what you mean?
Vicky stole two of Gastón's precious, literally, sellos - stamps - wanting to use the money to hire a detective to find her Aunt, Lucha. The horrible, nasty, hateful father he was, Gastón judged her to be a drug addict and called the police to charge her with theft. He and the cops were chasing her when she took off so fast with Octo on board, her with helmet, him not, and had the accident.
NovelaMaven: " … I kept hoping that the writers would spare little Vicky." I kept hoping that too! In fact, when I read your piercing rendition, I was stunned! I was CERTAIN they would save her! We all knew that night-before call to Octavio was telenovela writing on the wall, but … Vicky?!
"(You should have seen me last night, sniffling and snuffling as I tried to compose myself and a recap at the same time.)" So dear, you, Vicky … sniff, sniff ….
"(How ironic that we were all worried about Vicky getting hurt on her bike and in the end, she is a victim of what Doris imprecisely but hilariously calls 'escalericide.')"
Spanish student: "Fernanda, by allowing her uncontrollable, criminal daughter to run wild, is definitely to blame. Will she ever confess what she knows about Lili, or will she continue to only think of herself (i.e. how distraught she'll be if Ignacio dies after learning the truth)." Yes! I almost scream it at her, I swear!
I keep hoping she will be the one who finally STOPS Lily. A Mother's prerogative and all.
LXV: "I wonder how much terror they [Roxy and Memin] will internalize before they can break free & sueltan la sopa. I bet it will be a scene involving Roxi, Liliana and Lucha." Can't you just see Roxana nearly bursting to suelta la sopa, the poor dear? That little actress, Macarena Oz, is powerfully convincing! I would feel deep satisfaction seeing Lucha free Roxana's terrorized tongue right in el DIABLA's face.
ps, lxv - "I would love to have seen a bit of Aaron Diaz without a cowboy hat, sigh." even more, he SMILED as Cesar!
¡Buen día!

I will recap last night's capitulo later today.
I can recap tonight's, thursday's, on friday, unless someone else would like to do it.
LXV, it is very OK! Thank you so much for doing friday night's recap! I look forward to that!

Don't mean to spoil things before the recap, but....
What a disappointment. Ese imbécil de Daniel Ponce doesn't just fall into the trap. He helps set it and jumps in head first. Now Lucia, who has good reason to suspect El Diablo (really? taking her to live in the same apartment where El Diablo and Liliana lived?), will be forced to defend poor maltratado Rafael. And I bet the video of Daniel mistreating Lucia in the interrogation will surface also.
Part of this is Marina's fault. Instead of doing her job, she started persuing him.
-Hombre, hecho y derecho
Hombre, hecho y derecho, no worry about "before the recap." The video isn't even up yet for me to see and recap, and you just gave me an answer I was waiting to see: if "Ese imbécil de Daniel Ponce" would fall in. I didn't expect it to be that fast, though! Thank you for the avance!
I've been thinking - well, scowling - about how the more Ponce pushes against el Diablo, the more he pushes Lucha TOWARD the monster! From what you post now, it is going to completely backfire on him, fast!
He can't see that?! I guess his shrink won't help him see that, being all preoccupied focusing elsewhere, ah?
Off to see if the video is up yet. Post anything! Is all good!
Aficionada
Aficionada, I agree with you on all points above. I'm still mourning Vicky but at least her ghost shared the truth with Lucia. Would be nice if she did the same with Octavio.
The sad part about Olegario interrupting Daniel and Lucia in the chapel is that they were on to something regarding Vicky's death and her suspicions. And although he did fall into Olegario's trap, this time I "get" him. After all, Olegario cunningly admitted that he indeed is Diablo (didn’t he call him by the diminutive Danielito?), so Daniel, being the man that he is, responded with the usual punch. Olegario knew Daniel would react that way. I just hope he learns to control himself (without Marina) and starts thinking 2 steps ahead of Oleg in order to outsmart him. It’s the only way he’ll get back with Lucia and earn the respect of his peers.
With that said, Pablo is such a downer right now. Hopefully the writers have something better planned for him. And it seems Ivanna exists only to get in the way. Maybe Marina can counsel her instead. But then who’s gonna counsel Marina?
I’m also hoping the bellboy was right about the Senator having powerful friends. It would be nice if someone else attacked Diablo when he wasn’t expecting it.
Hombre, I also agree that moving into Diablo's old home should be a red flag for Lucia. She needs to wake up and pay attention to what he does and not what he says.

Wow, this show just got REALLY exciting. After almost revealing the whole truth about their true identities just the other day I thought the Rey brothers would stay away from the del Junco for a while.
Leave it to Sofia to turn her walk of shame into a war declaration against all her family. Even Irina seemed shocked that Sofia actually had the guts to come to the ranch with Arturo.
If Cayetana was still fighting her feelings for Leonardo, I'm thinking she will be falling pray to his charms pretty soon now.
I guess Irina can't be that far behind Sofia if Flavio insists he doesn't agree to live with Dario as the nutty trio.
I don't remember the original, but my guess is that Patricia leaves with this producer to become a star, while Samuel is left behind in Nena's care.
Last night I actually felt bad for Andrea. I hope that when Cayetana hooks up with Leonardo she will finally see that being her mother's obedient daughter is not a recipe for success.
When last we left off, Anas was trying to make a point with LQ, that is, with the point of a sharp knife, threatening the family jewels. Anas tells him she has a prisoner of LQ’s (Victor Manuel), and in 48 hours she wants LQ to come personally to pick him up. What if I don’t? he aks. Then you’ll lose your last chance. To kill me. All parties then retreat to their home bases.
Renato isn’t happy about this (he never is), and Anas later sends LQ a cassette tape with further instructions. Meanwhile, LQ is quite peeved that Anas is getting the best of him. “She’s like a woman, but with the brains of a man!” he complains. Paola goes shopping with one of the flunkies, and hears a woman calling her voice. Later, LQ plays her the cassette tape Anas sent, and Paola says no, that doesn’t sound the same, that’s Anastasia Cardona. LQ doesn’t want Paola to even leave the house, with so much threatening. He assigns Iggy to “distract” her. But none of this, he tells Iggy, pointing to the latter’s private parts, not without my permission. Iggy agrees, then later seems to be forgetting this warning, as he and Paola start making out.
Luciana is taken to the police station for questioning. She tells Sal the drugs weren’t hers, someone put them in her locker. She first refuses to say who, but Sal says he’s her friend, so she says it was Daytona, who was mad because her ex is now Lu’s boyfriend. And she’s never used drugs or anything. Well, what does your father do? roars Sal, slapping his hand on the table. He has a perfume importation business, International Perfumes, she responds firmly. Sal realizes he has no case. But he won’t let Lu go, not just yet.
Meanwhile, Anas finds out, and tells the guys (not including Adán) this could tie them to us, we need to solve it fast. She has a plan, and calls Elias, who happens to be a lawyer. She says okay, you can join our group, and your first job is to get Lu out of jail. Elias goes to the station, tells Sal he’s the family lawyer, and can they talk? In private, Sal says okay, you’re working for US. I want to know everything that happens, all the comings and goings, shipments, times, etc. Elias agrees. They come out, and Lu is released, although her case is still going to “go through the process”. Anas is grateful to Elias, but has no idea he’s a traitor.
Erica and Conrado continue to have problems. When she’s home, he’s out (with Anas, although Erica doesn’t know for sure), when he’s home, she’s out (with Sergio). Sergio gets Erica a fancy shimmering evening gown, and they go to a cocktail party, supposedly with some bigwigs, where Sergio introduces her as the star of “Sugar Lips”. Conrado keeps try to get closer to Anas, who keeps saying no, even though Modesta thinks she should go for it. Conrado at one point calls her Stasia, as a pet name, and Anas objects. Earlier, Elias had called Anas “stepmother” in the station, and the only cop who noticed, I think was Saúl. Anas keeps telling Sal that she’s Muriel.
Verónica is quite mad at Adán, with good reason, how could he sell marijuana? He says I’m going to tell you the truth, it’s cocaine. This doesn’t help. He later goes through the whole history, and she’s shocked that it’s been seven months, basically, the whole time they’ve been in the US. He’s lied completely. Adán wonders if she’ll turn him in, and she responds, no, I’m a coward, too, just like you. But she needs to be alone for a while
Saúl has continued his one man crusade. He’s taken hundreds of photos, and even buys drugs from one of Anas’s runners. He has to pay $200 for a gram, which is way higher than normal, but the guy says take it or leave it. At the end of the episode, we see Anas and Conrado, kissing outside at night, when up comes Saúl, pulls out his gun, and says you’re both under arrest for drug trafficking!!!!!!!!
BTW, Anas's plan is to have two groups, so that when LQ goes to retrieve Victor Manuel, the other group will go to LQ's warehouse, and burn up all his drugs. I'll not sure this'll work.
Finally a few secrets come out! Good for Sofia for boldly bringing Arturo home, but isn't she still worried Leo will kill him? From the previews, it looks like she should be!
I'm also glad Arturo decided to tell her his story, but I'm peeved at her for shushing him. It's bad enough when some crisis comes up and interferes with someone telling something important. I have no patience for people who say "no, no, don't tell me anything" when the person they love says he has something important to say. He wants to tell you something! He thinks it's important! Let him talk, you idiot!
I would be really ticked off if I told someone I thought cared about me that I had something important to tell them and they didn't want to hear it. Rude.
Oy, Cayetana. Letting Leo heat up your hormones is a slippery slope to nowhere good. Although I'm sure a lot of people would appreciate it if she kept him distracted and out of their hair for awhile.
I feel sorry for Andrea. She tries so hard to be the good one and do everything right and it is only causing problems for her and everyone. Too bad she didn't have better rules and expectations to follow. It's going to be really painful for her when she finds out everything that's been going on.
Irina. Really? You think your beloved Flavio should be happy with being your side piece?
Hombre, thanks for a terrific recap.
Quezada cracked me up warning Iggy not to put "that" inside Paola. Plus she's a virgin and all.
Anas wields a sharp knife, but Vero wields a sharp tongue. I felt sorry for Adán when Vero said she's a coward just like him. I think he was afraid she was going to commit suicide locked in the bathroom.
Kudos to all who predicted Saúl would wind up dirty. I thought he’d be a straight arrow, but there was no good reason for him to interrupt Conrado and Anas smooching in the alley.
Both Lu and Vero point out separately to Adán that they never desired all the stuff he got them with his drug earnings. I felt sad when Vero cried looking over their old family pictures. They showed Adán's sick mom in Mexico in the last episode, so I'm wondering if she'll turn up in Miami.
thanks so much Hombre!
this is a tough show to follow when it comes to the details, I really appreciate the time you put into these.
ah, hardly any interruptions from commercials,
say, what was that prank that Anas had Conrado pull in the bar, that led to them going outside and kissing? (and for a lady that keeps saying no, there wasn't much to the top of the dress Anas wore to dinner)
I don't know what to think about Saul, all of the info Salvador is after he seems to already have, (and was there something about Salvador wanting more on the Colombian part as to why he is not rounding everyone up), and Sal's coke buy, is he a user, and he looked nuts when he pulled the gun on Conrado and Anas.
hmm, was Anas asking Alejo for info on coke since he is experienced, and he explains he is a user but not an addict?
it looks like it's nada, nada, as well for Adan as Veronica doesn't even want to be around him, I'm thinking she will go looking for a sympathetic ear.
and did Renato warn Conrado off, not to hurt Anas, as he was cleaning his gun and kept pointing it at him.
Lu is so sweet, so sad to see her behind bars, I like that Adan and Lu are becoming best buddies, (although she did say she was happier in Mexico), Chad is just kind of there, I was hoping Salvador would go after Daytona.
Thanks so much, Hombre and Novelera, for your deft recaps. They've kept me in the loop even though I haven't watched the show consistently. (And of course, your writing is always entertaining in itself!)
And in the Department of Deja Vu all over again --
--That scene where Anastasia holds a knife to the Quezada family jewels is very reminiscent of Estefi's similar maneuver with Octavio in Reina de Corazones.
--LQ's bellowed VICTOR MANUEL reminds me of Estefanía's YOOOO - LANDA!
I like to imagine the Siachoque/Varoni breakfast table, the two seasoned pros exchanging tics and shtik to make a character memorable.
And speaking of memorable characters...
A few years ago, I saw a Colombian narconovela with a character a lot like LQ: a kind of disgusting, greasy-haired, overweight guy with thick glasses who has a quasi-incestuous relationship with his comely daughter. I wonder if this cluster of traits is based, however loosely, on a real person...
Hombre, thanks once again for another great recap. I confess that I'm a bit confused about Anas' going to the police station with Elias to help free Lu. Anas keeps saying she's worried that this latest development could lead the police to her drug operation, and yet she not only sends the son of Nataniel Cardona to serve as Lu's lawyer but also accompanies him to the police station. Would her doing these things connect her to Lu et al?
Deb, I too wondered about the stunt that Anas has Conrado pull in the bar. I keep thinking that someone in charge of such a large, illegal operation should be above such silliness, and then I realize that perhaps the same kind of daring that leads someone to run a cocaine operation may also lead her to silly, undisciplined stunts like the one in the bar. (As may be apparent, I'm far too much of a cobarde to do either of those things.)
And I too fear that Vero is likely to seek out a sympathetic shoulder to cry on, and Iggy/David will be happy to lend her his shoulder, etc.
Many of the comments lately have included the phrase "hecho y derecho." I've looked up the phrase in several places, but I can't find a meaning that seems to fit here. Could someone please explain how it's being used in the comments here? Muchas gracias por adelantado.
Juanita, "hecho y derecho," in general, means "full-fledged."
Un hombre hecho y derecho: a grown man
Una mujer hecha y derecha: a grown woman
See this page:
http://www.wordreference.com/es/en/translation.asp?spen=mujer%20hecha%20y%20derecha
I think hecho y derecho is sort of a way in Spanish to say a grown man, capable of making one's own decisions. It is not used for women, as far as I've ever seen. It's often spoken: soy un hombre, hecho y derecho, by a young man to an older man who's questioned his decisions.
When Sofia and Arturo were dancing in last night's episode, I had a resurgence of hate for the hat. It just looks so stupid.
Good point, Julia, about how unrealistic the whole house construction storyline was. Permits and inspections would certainly have been required in the US. But that is no more unrealistic than the idea that Sofia can't get a divorce unless her husband agrees. Or, for that matter, how unrealistic that Cayetana's adult daughters are still being bossed around by their mother. Cayetana is outraged that Sofia didn't come home from the bachelorette party with Irina? Really? It's not like she's 16 years old.
So I guess Anastasia offering Leandro Quezada a chance to kill her is the logic behind offering to give him Victor Manuel. Because I can’t imagine that she’d even think that LQ would expose himself because he’s so fond of his employee. So this is like a chess game. Anas knows he won’t come alone and thinks the whole crew will back him up and give her a chance to burn his drugs. LQ thinks she’ll come out in the open and give him a chance to kill her.
Tony Dalton, you’re the man! I played that scene with Conrado several times. Precisely when Renato is loading bullets into his gun he gets very close to Conrado, reminds him he’s married, and tells him one of those bullets will be up his culo where the FBI can’t find it. We’ve already seen that Conrado is not a brave guy. You could see the fear in Conrado's face during this scene. He was ready to throw Anastasia under the bus when they were trying to find her, saying it would be too hard and too risky.
I like Conrado less and less as the show goes on. He’s got a hell of a nerve fuming with jealousy about Érica when he’s constantly trying to seduce Anas! Also, what annoyed Anas was when Conrado said something to her, addressing her as preciosa.
OK, I am officially over my affection for Alberto Jiménez in his role as Oleg Yasikov in La Reina del Sur. What he did to Luciana was despicable. And I thought it was illegal as well. Could you interview underage kids without their parents present in 1977? But Luciana held up like a trooper and even fooled Sal. He told the head of the police that the girl didn’t know anything. But the plan was to put pressure on her father.
That bathtub scene with Érica confused me. Was it an outtake from the move? Or was she really slithering around in a bathtub with Sergio looking on. I’m pretty sure Conrado and Érica’s marriage is toast. Conrado said that something had changed. He feels that she doesn’t feel the same about him and he doesn’t feel the same about her either.
I think the woman who called out to Paola might be her mother. They showed LQ furious at the woman, throwing a chair off a balcony. It sounded like she might have been unfaithful. It’s not the first time he’s alluded to something bad (in his mind, anyway) about his ex.
I don't think the cocaine that Saúl bought was Anastasia's. Didn't they say that they had absolutely nothing to sell earlier in the episode? But I think Saúl bought it to plant on Anas and Conrado. But, on the other hand, how could he know he'd spot them. And he did look like he might be on something when he approached them.
The first time I heard the phrase was in Marido en Alquiler, and it was used by a woman, so it was hecha y derecha. It is amazing the vocabulary you can learn from telenovelas.
I just finished reading the February issue of People en Español. It had an interview with Aylín Mujica, nuestra diabla.
-Hombre, hecho y derecho
Wow, I had so much to say about last night's episode that I forgot to thank Hombre for the terrific recap. As always, I love his writing style.
Many thanks, Novelera and NovelaMaven, for your responses to my question. Actually, I had already seen the discussion on WordReference.com, but I didn't understand how it applied here. People kept referring to Hombre or thanking him and saying hecho y derecho, but I'm not sure what it means to say that he is "full fledged." It almost seems demeaning--surely he doesn't need anyone to assure him or thank him for being a full-fledged man. ???
Juanita, just realized you wanted to know why I am Hombre, hecho y derecho.
When I first started commenting on Los Miserables, I noted that Anselmo seemed to be the most likeable character, so I started signing my comments as Anselmo's boyfriend. I later shortened it to Anselmo's bf.
After Anselmo's head got to big and he killed Camila and her mother, I changed it to Anselmo's Ex.
After Anselmo was killed, I changed it to Anselmo's viudo, but someone mistakenly referred to me as Anselmo's viuda. So I corrected them and said that I am hombre, hecho y derecho.
I did not realize that there was someone else signing their comments as hombre, because I never read the comments on the other telenovelas.
-Hombre, hecho y derecho
Part One
Hospital Chapel
Lucha, Dan, Marina and Olegario. Lucha starts to explain to her new husband why she was in Dan's arms. Oleg tells her no need to explain, she is grieving, Dan was consoling her, but she doesn't need someone else to do that any more, she has him now.
Marina resenting, as always.
Nurse Nancy enters, tells Lucha she is supposed to be recuperating, she should not be there. Lucha agrees, says she has a headache, "Let's go," to her husband "Rafael."
Marina whines, "Not a time to ask for an explanation, right?"
"No," Dan says, "nice of you to understand. Let's go." Kiss.
Police HQ
Dan is trying to convince Alejandro that Vicky was murdered. Octavio is there trying, too.
Pablo enters, tells Dan to just interrogate Radames, "There is good reason for that." Versus the fruitless cause of convincing Alejandro.
Deyanira's Home
Lucha and the "chamacos lindos," as Deya called them, are packing up to move to their new home.
Deya hands Lucha a present, "To remember me."
Lucha: "I don't need gifts to remember you, you're always in my thoughts, and you are always with us."
"You say that now," Deya says, "but after a while with Señor Montes [did she say del Montes?] you will forget your friends."
"Don't be foolish." Lucha says, "How am I going to forget you? I owe you a lot. Thank you for your help, your affection …. Don't cry."
Roxana says, "Come with us." Says something like, "You can stay in my room." Deya says no, but how sweet the invitation was.
"Where are you moving?" she asks.
"I don't know," Lucha answers.
"You don't know where you are going to live?"
"Too many things were happening. I didn't want to ask Rafael then."
Hotel Faraón Lobby
Radames is with the Senator, who is all excited about his vacation there. He says he'll never forget. Radames calls a woman he tells to take care of the Senator, that he will be sending someone to see the senator, and she is to see that the person gets to him.
He then talks to a man he tells to make sure to record "every detail" of what happens in the senator's suite. The man warns him to be careful, the senator is not someone to play games with. Radames replies that the one he is doing this for, el Diablo of course, is a thousand times more dangerous.
Penthouse
Olegario/"Rafa" shows kids and Lucha into the place. "Welcome home, kids!"
Lucha is not pleased to find it is the place Liliana lived with el Diablo.
Echeverria House
Octavio is arguing with Ivanna when Dan and Pablo arrive.
Ivanna acts all happy to see Pablo.
"We're here for Radames."
Radames enters.
"Come to our office, we have some questions to ask you."
As he is blustering against that, Octavio is calling him a liar.
Penthouse
Lucha: "Why this place" where Lily and el Diablo lived?
Oleg: "Kids, go check out your rooms."
"This place has great possibilities."
"There was much evil in this place, torture," Lucha says.
"I didn't torture anyone here," Oleg says. Vague enough.
Echeverria House
Radames says to Octavio, "You are just like your mother, a traitor."
Octavio: "You accomplices killed Vicky because she discovered something, and knew Liliana was your accomplice!"
Radames brushes him off, something like "I didn't care about your total bitch," which sends Octo flying at him, but Dan, is it?, stops him, "Calm down."
Pablo handcuffs Radames, leads him out, with Ivanna ranting "Pablo, stop! He's my uncle!" They go on out.

Penthouse
"Grand, ah, kids?" Oleg says, "Lucia, just try it for a while. If you all don't like it, we can move. But there are great schools nearby, a great park across the street … ."
The kids ask to go to the park, see the flowers, or something like that.
"I have to get to work, but ask your mother to take you."
Police HQ
Radames is in the interrogation room.
Lopez calls Genaro, tells him Radames is in the police station.
Dan tells Marisela to get him all the records from the Cartel del Norte.
Lopez, listening, dials his phone again, "Hola tio … " Genaro tells him to watch everything and tell him all later.
Hotel
I don't know where the room they are in is located. "Rafa"'s old hotel room? Radames' office?
Genaro tells Olegario that the police have Radames.
"Imbecil!"
He talks out loud to his el Diablo self, by name. Genaro seems to notice that.
The senator is brought in. Oleg shows him the video they got of his not-decent activities - I got no details here.
"What do you want?" the senator asks him.
"To be friends. Are you my friend?"
The senator nods.
Deyanira's home
I missed this. Something about adoption??
She calls Carlos. Is all I got, or could remember of it.
Penthouse
Lucha and the kids eating.
Roxy: "Is Vicky in heaven."
Lucha: "Yes" something something ….
Memin: "No one else is going to die."
Lucha looks at him, obviously puzzled and concerned. Asks Roxanita, "Do you have a dark secret?"
"No," Raoxy says.
"You promise?"
"Yes."
Lucha leaves the room, Roxy holds up her hand and shows Memin her fingers are crossed, then both hands. He says, "When you do that, the promise is not real."
Police HQ
Interrogation of Radames. Lopez is watching behind that mirror/glass.
Penthouse
Lucha is in bed, asleep.
She seems to wake up, and there is Vicky standing next to the bed.
"It was no accident," Vicky's spirit says. "Ella me mato," "She killed me."
"Who?" Lucha asks.
A Restaurant
(note: at this point, the plot to destroy Daniel goes into motion. It is fascinating, and has the first really long scenes in this show. And I found it difficult let a single sentence go by! Trying to decide what would be most important. I find it a brilliant plot twist, feeling almost as if the evil recognized genius el Diablo has let us in to watch it happen.)
Olegario is at a table. Daniel enters.
Daniel: "Why did you call me?"
Oleg:"You will pardon me, Commandante, but I request that you not be around my woman.
(HIS woman, GAH!)
"Leave her in peace."
Dan: "I am not going to leave her in peace as long as she is with you."
Oleg: "Why can't you accept that you lost? I won. Lucia es mia, Lucia is mine."
Dan: "Yes, you won as long as she thinks you are the other."

another note:
I will not be able to do tonight's recap tomorrow. The video was a nightmare again today - it was great in the early morning, but then failed, and took cache cleaning, rebooting, repeatedly, until I had to leave it be and get back to it later. tearing out my hair lol. So I will have to recap only on nights I can watch the TV airing of the show.
I will be watching it tomorrow, in pieces, and if no one has recapped by then, I will put comments, or bullet-point bits.
Sorry for such late word on that, and sorry for such a late recap of last night's capitulo!
more of that to come

For anybody who doesn't know it yet, there are (at least) two Hombres on this board, who are different people. I'm Hombre de Misterio, and there's another guy who is Hombre Hecho y Derecho
Aficionada, I may be able to fill in 2 pieces here...
1. The Senator is married had an affair with a man that was recorded. At first I thought the video was fake but perhaps it was authentic. So Diablo is blackmailing him.
2. Deya, in her loneliness, decided first to adopt a child then decided to have her own. But of course she'll need a donor and that's when she called Carlos instead of her boyfriend. When it was over she was cold to him and he realized he'd been used. "Now you know how I felt" says Deya, but personally i think she went too far. This former prostitute has serious issues yet she never focuses on her own behavior.
When I read part 1 of your recap about Deya wanting to be remembered by Lucia, I had one of Lucha's premonitions. Just wondering now if something will happen to her since the writers wrote it into the script.

Part Three
Restaurant (continued)
"What if it were true [that I am Rafael]? What would you do if you discovered I scoff at all of you, and that, in reality, I am el Diablo Marrero, ah? Tell me, what would you do? Would I go to jail? Would I kill myself? Or the million dollar question, how are you going to prove it, Danielito? Come on, Danielito, tell me. What are you going to do to prove I am el Diablo, eh?" [Yes, Spanish student - saw your comment on this - I was caught by his using the diminutive to Daniel, too]
Dan: "I knew you were el Diablo Marrero. You never fooled me."
Oleg: You have lost. Leave me alone. ...You know what? Although Lucia does not want me ... I'm going to have her anyway.
Dan: [missed this, something about harming her … ]
Oleg: No, and who told you that I'm going to hurt her? No, no way. On the contrary, m'hijo. I want to do good things. She will moan with pleasure.
THAT is what sets Dan off! He pucnches el Diablo, and again, and Olegario goes down, hitting his face on a table edge, looking so hurt. Dan keeps going for him, until staff pull him off.
El Diablo has manipulated Daniel into beating him up in public, the restaurant patrons shocked and horrified, as Olegario did not even defend himself.
Penthouse
Vicky is with Lucha still.
"It was not an accident. She killed me."
"Who?"
"You know who."
Lucha's horror shows, as she says, "Liliana."
Liliana's Room - In the hidden warehouse?
Liliana is sleeping. Vicky is watching her. Lily cries out, "No!"
Vicky almost shouts, "Asesina!"
"No!" Lily in her sleep.
Vicky: "Asesina!"
Lily screams "NO!"
Wakes and screams "Genaro!"
Restaurant
Oleg: "Now this is good."
Dan to restaurant staffers holding him back, "Stop! Please let me go. Let me go! I am the police, yes?"
Oleg: "An abusive police officer, corrupt, sir!"
Dan: "And you are a criminal and you are under arrest."
Oleg: "On what charges?"
Dan: "You just confessed that you are Olegario Marrero."
Oleg: "I am Rafael Montes, sir, and I have a family expecting me!"
Dan: "Move it!"
Oleg: "Please! Talk to him, to the police officer!" Big show of desperate-sounding pleading with the restaurant patrons, who are visibly horrified.
Deyanira's Home
Doorbell rings.
Deya says, "Finally!"
Carlos enters.
Deya, "Ay, you got here."
Carlos asks, "What do you want?"
I have few details here. Anyone?
I know that after talk of her not forgetting him, him not forgetting her, Deya seduces Doctorcito into bed.

Aficionada, you are on a roll. I loved what have written so far. I can't wait to read the rest of your recap. What a bummer that you had so many technical problems watching the show.
LXV"tonight's recap" Or any part of it, thank you so! That would be great!! I might get to watch friday's on tv, in which case, I can do a bullet-point , or add comments if someone else can recap.
I am running out of time now to even finish what I have in longhand to type and post. I may have to add that later. Rushing out soon!
Thank you all for patience!! I will get all possible on here now. And back late night to comment, and thank you for your comments!

Pablo to Radames: "Start talking. Where is Liliana? Where is Genaro?
Radames: "I don't know."
Pablo: "I don't believe you."
Radames: "I told you what I know. I demand my lawyer here now."
Pablo: "You are in no position to demand anything. Your own grandson" [is against you??]
Rad: "It is the word of a boy obsessed and traumatized by his cop uncle, against the word of a decent and honorable man."
Pablo: "A decent and honorable man? You are a figurehead and accomplice of Diablo Marrero, that is who you are."
Rad: "Don't talk stupid. What proof do you have?"
Pablo: "You are going to have to answer before a judge …."

Many thanks, Hombre, hecho y derecho, for clearing up my confusion. Since I am only watching Dueños del Paraiso, I don't read the messages about the other novelas and thus I didn't know about you.
yeah Jean I was kind of 50 shades of whatever dude about the preview, though I watched a show once where the characters explained how to order pizza over the phone and even gave out the 800 number to a specific chain in the middle of the show.
Ana said -Anyway can we talk about Soledad for a minute. That lady is getting really annoying. She is becoming as annoying as Patricia. I know she is Veronica's mother and all but damn talk about being a metiche.
The way I see it Soledad is trying so hard not to blow her cover, but she hasn't seen her daughter all her life she can't help herself meddling now, she's so desperate to be involved.
Part Five
Pablo: "I have a very important document on your finances in my control, and furthermore, you have income far greater than you declare."
Rad: "And you believe that because my [p---] ex-wife gave you some papers? You are very wrong."
Daniel shoves Olegario into the interrogation room.
"Move it!"
Pablo: "What are you doing here?"
Dan: "He called me and confessed that he is el Diablo Marrero.
Oleg: "This is crazy, and an abuse of power."
Dan: "Quiet!"
Oleg: "It is true, I called, but I called to figure out the kindest way you can stop accusing me and my wife. But you are mad, sir, I have witnesses."
Dan: "Confess to your partner [Radames] who you really are, right now."
Dan to Pablo: "Come, come."
Dan and Pablo leave.

Police HQ
Dan to Pablo: "You will not forget who heads this agency, me, and I expect you to respect me."
Pablo: "Okay, but if you want respect, stop acting crazy."
Dan: "That fool confessed, told me he is el Diablo Marrero.
Pablo: "He said it to your face, literally?"
Dan: "No. He told me that if I wanted to prove he is el Diablo, I could not."
Pablo: "And he's right, Daniel."
Dan: "You're going to give the reason."
Pablo: "Let's see, think about it, you have no witness, recording, affidavit, nothing. Don't you think that he was setting a trap?"
Dan: "Of course he wants to trap me."
Pablo: "And you fell, Daniel, you fell, you let your anger out, let him manipulate you."
Dan: "This fool is el Diablo Marrero and I am going to prove it."
Radames and Olegario in interrogation room
Oleg: "So, why are you here, Señor Echeverria?"
Radames: "Unfortunately, the same as you, Don Rafael, police brutality.
Oleg: "Well, since we are companions in misfortune. Why not join forces to work against this abuse?"
Radames: "Seems good to me, Señor Montes. What do you propose we do?"
Oleg: "Good. Any non-governmental organization can help us, The Human Rights Commission, for instance, to stop this outrage. Daniel Ponce is crazy, is a type that can not work in a team, we must do justice and get him out of here."
Marisela and Lopez watch, listen.
Lopez: "León, I tell you these guys are out to bust the chief."

Marisela leaves.

Deeply emotional moments between Ignacio and Octavio, and Ignacio and Chelo.
Lucha is displeased her husband is not at the funeral, was out all night. He was in jail, of course.
Olegario and Radames in jail, Radames is getting very nervous. Oleg seems just fine, happy even, tells Radames, "This is all going exactly according to plan."
Their lawyers arrive, demand to see Dan, say they are going to sue for police brutality.
Dan to Lucha at the funeral, "Rafael confessed he is el Diablo."

Another very fine episode. Wish I had time to write a more thorough recap, pero ni modo; algo es algo
Saúl Benavides, sniffing and snuffling conspicuously, basically kidnaps Anastasia and Conrado. I was wrong about his planting coke on them and arresting them. He makes them drive with him to her warehouse. He snorts some of his own coke there. He gets maudlin and tells them his wife left him and his daughter thinks he’s a loser. What he wants is to be their mole inside the police. He shows them 7 months of photographs that could sink them. He gives them 48 hours to decide or he’s sending copies to Ferrara, the mayor and the head of the police.
Érica is having a nice time at the swanky party Sergio invited her to. When he goes off to recruit some other dummy that wants to “act”, Érica wanders around and discovers an orgy. Some lout calls her the porno goddess and tries to get her to have sex with him.
Paola Quezada is very high maintenance. She’s playing Iggy like a violin. She’s mad because the picnic was cancelled and threatens to accuse him of raping her. She also mentions that he raped Anas.
Adán has a middle of the night conversation with Érica. She wishes Conrado were like him, and she tells him she’ll try to get Vero to come around.
At Casa Anastasia she and Conrado have some kissy face on the sofa. I think that’s all that happened because they were asleep on the sofa fully clothed in the morning. Renato discovers them and talk about your burning with jealousy eyes! Later on Irene tells Anas to fight for Conrado if she wants him.
Anastasia and Renato are planning the move on LQ. It’s decided that Anas will get all the guys and Renato will do the blowing up of LQ’s warehouse alone.
Anas calls LQ and they arrange to meet at a house in the country.
Sergio shows up to visit Érica in the morning. He swears he didn’t know anything about the orgy. He talks her around as always. He’s brought the “promo” photos. Conrado arrives home but plays it cool.
I wish I had more time to write about the moving scene with Vero and Adán. At first she seems like she might have completely lost it, feverishly cleaning. Then she looks at him and tells him how much she loves him and that she always will, but she can’t be in this life. She wants a divorce! She tells him something that he doesn’t want to admit – that he’s put her life and that of her daughter in danger. She tells him that narcotraffickers are having a war in the streets and that he, Adán, is a narcotrafficker!
Irene, sober this time, puts another move on Renato. Anas overhears this and fiercely tells her mother to lay off him.
We see LQ arrive for the big showdown.
Aficionada Just read through your recap. Thanks for such detail in the conversations. A lot went by me: all the subtleties of the police station scenes. I was dimly aware that Diablo set up Dan, but not of all the intricacy of his plot. I loved watching Dan's mental replay all his cruelty toward Lucha. I give him credit for that, but I still don't love him. That said, my earlier hopes for a free & independent Lucia are fading. The plot is on the fast track to getting these 2 together.
spanish student: thanks for the thing about Deya wanting a baby and how that colored the whole interaction with Carlos.
These writers introduce "mirroring" elements at every turn. It's an interesting subtext. Everybody's getting a taste of their own medicine.
Still waiting for Fernanda's comeuppance, she's really backed herself into a corner with her refusal to come forward; and Lily's Lady MacBeth scene was pretty thrilling (in a TN sort of way), but just because she's gone off her rocker, that doesn't mean we've seen the last of her. I hope they allow enough time for all the anvils to fall before this thing is over.
I realize Mexican justice is not the same as norteamenicano, but Pablo's denying the accused a lawyer on the sayso of his grandson seems a bit farfetched. I loved watching the whole thing escalate and spin out of control. Dan's in deep doo-doo now. Of his own making; but he's still on the side of truth & justice, which in telenovelandia means he'll emerge triumphant. Whereas all the worst cronyism of the criminal-government alliance is poised to destroy him. I'd say the arc of this story is just about where it should be as we slide into ultimos (I keep expecting to see the notice any day now; but has anyone else noticed, they've been skipping the theme song and intro credits since about a week now—is it because they can't spare a minute for all this action? If they're so pressed for time, how about skipping the previews at every commercial break; I want my song back!)
"SO THIS IS WHAT IT FEELS LIKE..."
PARTE 1
STONES
Daniel approaches Lucía and tells her he has arrested Olegario Marrero, that the man as much as admitted he was El Diablo. Lucía, believing that Daniel has arrested an innocent man, turns away from him. Where is she going? Where he has obligated her to go -- to be with her husband. "Fine. Don't believe me. Sooner or later you'll realize who you are really married to."
Marina watches and kvetches to Carlos, who is unsympathetic. He has told her how Lucha and Daniel feel about each other. Marina pouts unattractively, not even pretending to respect the occasion.
CAN YOU SPELL LITIGIOUS?
Guys in suits show up at the cop shop asking to see the arrest warrants for Radamés and Rafael and demanding immediate access to their clients. León tells them their clients aren't under arrest -- they are only being held for questioning. But Rad's guy says his client has been held for hours and without counsel, and Raf's guy says his client has been a victim of police brutality, and he has witnesses to prove it. They want to see them now! The police can't attack innocent people or damage their reputation with impunity. They are going to sue!
DO I LOOK LIKE AN AGONY AUNT TO YOU?
Diablo wonders aloud if he made a mistake bringing his Santa to the penthouse where Liliana used to live. What does Radamés think? Could Lucha be jealous? "Who cares? Do I look like a couples counselor?" They trade insults, each accusing the other of being the bigger loser in the department of romance.
TABLE FOR TWO-FACED BASTARDS
And speaking of advice, Genaro tells his nephew López to calm down, Los nervios no son buenos consejeros. López worries that homicide may find evidence against him. Genaro downplays the threat, but he reminds López that if he does get caught, he'd better keep his mouth shut -- or else.
TALK ABOUT STONES...
Dr. Mallorca, looking quite Euro-dishy in his dark suit and tinted glasses, stands beside Ignacio, who is hunched into his wheelchair; Abel and Fernanda complete the small group. They are saying the things people say when there is really nothing to say. And then Lily shows up! Fernanda catches a glimpse of her, and she hastens towards her, catching Daniel's attention as she passes by.
HONEY, I'M HOME!
Genaro gets back to the warehouse with lunch for himself and the Devil woman. But she's not there! He is furious. He pulls out his phone...
YOU DID IT, DIDN'T YOU?
Fernanda confronts Lily. "You killed her!" "I didn't mean to -- it was an accident! She called me a murderer!" "You killed my little girl! What kind of a monster are you?"
Daniel and Pablo walk towards Fernanda and Lily, the latter now hidden by -- and blinded by -- a gravemarker...
Fernanda continues: "If you're innocent, turn yourself in and explain it." "I'm not turning myself in," retorts Lily, "because I didn't do anything!"
Daniel and Pablo arrive in time to hear these words. ¡Entrégate Liliana! says Daniel.
A sudden loud squeal of brakes. A car appears out of nowhere. The driver opens fire. Pablo and Daniel pull out their weapons and shoot back. In the chaos of the moment, Lily somehow makes it to the car unharmed, and the car speeds away, the Keystone cops running after it and spraying the air with bullets.
I DIDN'T HEAR ANYTHING. DID YOU?
Nacho and his entourage come by. "What's going on?" the old man asks. He heard shots. "Nothing," Fernanda lies. "It's time to go." But once they are out of earshot, Pablo tells Elena what has just happened.
I WANT TO SEE MY HUSBAND!
When Lucha arrives at the police station, Marisela and Rodríguez tell her she can't see Rafael without their boss's say-so. But they are overruled by corrupt old Sen. Galíndez, the accidental video star...
I TOLD YOU NOT TO GO!
Now safely back in their rat hole, Genaro reams out Liliana and reminds her that killers keep their feelings in check. He's tempted to walk away right now! "Do you care for me?" she asks. "I'd give my life for you," says Genaro. (Really?) "Then don't leave me alone." Genaro hugs her and promises he will be with her to the end.
MAYBE YOU WERE A LITTLE RASH, BOSS
Daniel and Pablo lick their wounds -- they can't believe Lily got away. (Neither can we). Pablo warns Daniel that he can't hold Rad and Raf without evidence, especially Rafael. He's an innocent man. Daniel has to color within the lines. But Daniel clenches his jaw and insists that Rafael is the Devil.
ST. LUCÍA APPEARS TO ST. RAFAEL
Lucía has come to Rafagario. Framed by the bars of the cell, her face is luminous, almost celestial. She has heard how unjustly Daniel treated him and she is there to defend him. (Radamés watches and smiles wryly.) Lucha notices the bruises on his face and expresses concern. "Don't worry," he says, his St. Rafael face slipping a bit. "The bastard is going to pay for this." Is that a flash of doubt darkening Lucha's face?
THE FALL OF DANIEL PONCE
When Daniel and Pablo return to headquarters, an unwelcoming committee is there to greet them. The Secretary tells him he has been charged with police brutality, abuse of authority, and violation of the code of ethics, and he demands his resignation.
Homicide Chief Alejandro, meanwhile, has just been informed of a lab result that is going to mean big trouble for Daniel.
Daniel tries to tell the brass that he was only doing his duty. But they aren't buying it. "Hand over your badge and your gun."
Rafael and Radamés have been freed. On their way out of the police station, they pass by the offices in time to hear one of the bosses railing against Daniel and his inability to control his rage. Marisela tells Lucha that Daniel has been fired.
THE TRUTH ABOUT LILY SPREADS LIKE A BLOOD STAIN
Hospital Nursery: While Chelo holds baby Victoria, Elena tells Octavio about Lucha's premonition that Liliana was involved in Vicky's death. Then she tries to backpedal a little -- after all, it was just a feeling Lucha had. Well Octavio believes it's true. Vicky was killed because she knew something about Liliana.
Ignacio's Room: The old man knows that Lily was at the cemetery. He wants to know why the police were after her. "Tell me the truth Fernanda -- what has Liliana done now?"
COULD IT GET ANY WORSE?
Um ... yeah. Alejandro pulls out his handcuffs and tells Daniel he is under arrest. "For what????" "For the murder of Anselmo Benítez in this very facility." "But that's absurd -- what evidence do you have?" They found Daniel's hair in the black shoelaces used to strangle Anselmo. [Aha! Remember the weird, seemingly pointless scene when Daniel noticed the laces were missing from his dress shoes?]
Daniel is led away in handcuffs, past the smirks of Radamés and el Diablo and the solemn face of la Santa. Daniel catches her eye: "You believe I'm innocent, don't you?" She says nothing.
PRESUMPTION OF GUILT
This makes no sense, Daniel says. If he'd wanted to murder someone, he would have been smarter about it. And what motive did he have? Maybe his connections to drug trafficking, says Alejandro. And the evidence is contundente -- the shoelaces! Daniel tries to tell him he was framed.
ISN'T IT GRAND?
Rafael leads Lucha into the accursed penthouse and invites her to gloat over Daniel getting a taste of his own medicine. But she has just buried her beloved goddaughter and Daniel's misery gives her no pleasure. She has a headache and she is going to bed. Rafagario grimaces.
SOMEONE MUST HAVE STOLEN MY SHOELACES!
Daniel realizes that his colleagues all had access to the clothes he kept in the office, including his dress shoes. Alejandro should be questioning them. One of them is the murderer! Alejandro doesn't appreciate the advice.
WATERCOOLER TALK (WITHOUT THE WATERCOOLER)
Everyone is wondering who the new boss will be. Rodríguez repeats what he overheard Rafael remark to Radamés: "Now comes the best part of the show." Pablo's ears prick up. (Oh please show us you have a brain to go with the bod, Pablo.)
PENT-UP RAGE IN THE PENTHOUSE
Diablo tells his lawyer he wants to sue Daniel for abuse of authority and illegal detention, and he wants him to serve the maximum sentence for Anselmo's murder. The lawyer assures him Daniel will only get out of jail feet first.
Once the lawyer leaves, Diablo calls Radamés to tell him he's found Daniel's replacement -- an old buddy from Mexicali police department by the name of Enrique Vidal. He tells Rad to call Sen. Corrupto and tell him to hire Vidal. Rad bristles at being ordered around and then takes his impotent fury out on his maid Rosa, slapping her hard when she comes to announce breakfast.
RETAIL THERAPY
Lucha lies in bed and remembers Daniel's words to her as he was led away. "You believe I'm innocent, don't you?" Yes, she believes in his innocence. Rafael walks in with some headache pills and an offer to go shopping for new beds for the kids. She is wiped out, but his attempt to kiss her has an energizing effect. She bounces up out of bed, ready to hit the mall.
THE NIGHTMARE INTERROGATION AND DANIEL'S EPIPHANY
Daniel believes it was Olegario who had Anselmo killed (though we know he did not), but Alejandro is convinced that Olegario is dead. Not only that, he has a video of Daniel "sentencing" Anselmo to death in one of his own less than gentle interrogations. In the film, we see Daniel slamming Anselmo's head on the table. "He mocked my aunt's death," says Daniel. "What did you expect me to do?" And once again he asserts his innocence.
Flashback to Lucía's trial, to her own repeated declarations of innocence and his own cruel intransigence...
"Now I understand what it is like to be unjustly accused," says Daniel.
PABLO'S BREAKTHROUGH
He ruminates over Rafael's remark to Radamés and Daniel's insistence that Rafa is really Olegario. He whispers to Marisela and Rodríguez to meet him in the cantina. They need to talk.
HOSPITAL
Elena is back at the reception desk. Rosa comes running up to her: Sra Elenita, ¡Sr Radamés me pegó! He hit me! Elena looks at the woman's bruised mouth and sighs.
HOTEL
Radamés gives the senator his orders: appoint Enrique Vidal head of the anti-narcotics squad.
HOSPITAL
Elena understands that Rosa can't work for Radamés anymore. She is sure Lucha could use some help with her new apartment and with the kids, and she promises to talk to her about hiring Rosa.
CANTINA: MAYBE DANIEL WAS RIGHT...
Pablo shares his suspicions with Marisela and Evaristo that there is a traitor in their department and furthermore, that someone outside the department is framing Daniel. There are four possible suspects: Radamés, Liliana, Genaro and .... el Diablo Marrero, alive and kicking! Now Radamés has motive to spare, but doesn't have the agallas. He's a coward.
BUT HE KNOWS HOW TO PRESSURE OTHER COWARDS...
Sen. Galíndez balks at naming a nobody to such an important position. Radamés threatens to release the damning video...
CANTINA CABINET CONTINUES
What about Liliana? She is jealous, spiteful and evil and guilty of plenty of things, but she's completely loca right now -- she showed up at the cemetery, knowing it would be crawling with cops. She wouldn't be able to do it...
TO WIT...
Alone in the warehouse, Lily navigates unsteadily around the clutter and the empty bottles, turns on some music, hums, dances. Suddenly she screams: "SHUT UP, VICKY! I'M NOT A MURDERER! Get out of my way! I didn't kill you!" She sits down and blubbers softly, "I didn't kill you, I didn't kill you."
ATTENTION MUST BE PAID
Lucha and Rafagario return to the penthouse, she chatting on the phone with Elena, perhaps about hiring Rosa, he toting several colorful shopping bags. He is feeling neglected. He asks her, rather like a petulant child, if she can spare some attention for him. But Lucha is too tired for this conversation. She is going to rest -- she is, after all, still convalescing. Rafagario, however, persists. Is she acting this way because of Daniel Ponce? Doesn't she realize that man is a criminal? A murderer?
"That's a lie," she says. "Daniel is incapable of murder. He's innocent."
ANOTHER LATE EPIPHANY
As Daniel is marched to his cell, he flashes back to Lucha behind bars and he remembers telling her that she and Olegario Marrero would pay for what they had done. He remembers his hurtful words: "I can't believe I fell in love with garbage like you." And he remembers how Lucha vowed that she would show him that she was innocent and that he was a cruel and wretched man who would come to regret what he had done to her. "This is my punishment," he says aloud now in his cell. "This is my punishment for hurting you, Lucía."
DON'T YOU REMEMBER WHAT HE DID TO YOU?
Rafagario is beside himself. How can Lucía NOT want Daniel to suffer after all the harm he did to her? She tells him that is beside the point. Daniel is innocent. Besides, it is for the justice system, not Rafa, to decide his fate.
Justice? It was he, Rafael Montes, who got her out of jail, not "justice." In his excitement, he grabs at her arm. "Ow, you're hurting me," she says. He backs away but continues to talk of his frustration. "You're mine," he says. "I'm not yours or anyone else's. I married you and I'm your wife. I appreciate you and I'm grateful to you, but you know perfectly well that I don't love you. You know that I love Daniel."
Rafagario's face reddens. He grits his teeth. His lips tremble. He wags his finger at her: ¡Cállate!
[End of episode]
NovelaMaven, (got the correct person this time), excellent recap!
Lxv, I feel your pain with the streaming problems.
Poor maltratado Rafael - except he doesn't know how to act the part around Lucia. If she does not yet know he is Olegario, then she must at least think that he has changed significantly. Now he is definitely not the man she wants.
-El Señor Eternamente Cambiado o El Señor EC (formerly known as Hombre, hecho y derecho)
Aficionada, I feel your pain. I am terrible. I call everyone Lxv. It is partly because I can't see the comments while making my own comment, so I forget who said what.
-El Señor EC
Wonderful NvMv !
"Who cares? Do I look like a couples counselor?" I cracked up when he said this. Quite the comedy team! I am loving the levity in these scenes with the evildoers.
"Dr. Mallorca, looking quite Euro-dishy..." The sunglasses were a nice touch. Do you suppose the good doc is going to start showing his colors a bit more now that he has a love interest.
"Lily, the latter now hidden by -- and blinded by -- a gravemarker..." you are so sharp to have caught that!
The getaway car got away. When will these cops ever learn to shoot at the tires?
"Is that a flash of doubt darkening Lucha's face?" They keep teasing us! I've thought for many episodes now that surely she knew, but evidently she's in deep denial.
And I could go on...Thanks for sharing your impressive talents with us. A (nother) brilliant recap!
Great recap, novelera! It was short, but you've managed to include all the important aspects that I can recall.
I too thought at first that Vero had lost it, and we (and she) were going to be subjected to some manicomio scenes. Mercifully, that turned out not to be the case, at least not yet. But I suspect that she'll seek solace with Iggy/David, a big mistake.
So Saúl doesn't even have to be tempted by an offer from Anas to be a mole--instead, he makes the offer. I confess that I thought she'd make the first move.
So Elias is Sal's mole and Saúl is Anas's. I liked it better when Oleg and Teresa were on the same side. :-)
Thanks for another great recap, Novelera. So both marriages, Adán and Vero, as well as Conrado and Erica, are on the rocks. And jealousy abounds. Renato apparently has a thing for Anas, though he won't admit it. I feel a little bit sorry for Adán, he really tried to be a good guy, but got sucked in, and is now paying the price.
Paola not only threatened to rat on Iggy, she made him leave through the window, then told her Dad and the guards that a tall good looking "stranger" had been in her room. He had black hair, a beard, actually she was describing Iggy, without naming him! But you know, I actually think Iggy DOES want to rape her. And did you see that face he made when Leandro said, just in case I get killed in the confrontation with Anas, I want you to MARRY Paola. Iggy looked like he want to run away and hide!
Anas hasn't yet decided for sure if she'll agree to Saúl's plan, but I think she will. As she pointed out to Conrado, what choice does she have? But there's always a small chance that Saúl will, down the road, double cross her, turn her in, and say he planned it that way all along! Or (more unlikely), he and Sal just pretended to be on the outs, and it was Sal's master plan all along. Unlikely, but stranger things have happened.
Can't wait to see what happens with Leandro and Anas tonight!
you did a very nice job of condensing the story novelera,
covering all of the hot spots, thanks!
there were a lot of emotional scenes as well as a few quietly intense looks,
Anas was especially busy rolling her eyes.
I'm going to have to agree with everyone in Miami, I think Saul is a looser.
so the next morning when Sergio shows up (and what did he expect Erika to be doing at that party left alone) with the "promo" photos of her soon to be a hit film, we see one is of her in the candle lit tub, but wait, Conrado shows up too, and the guys have a casual talk, while drilling each other with their eyes, Conrado apologizes for hitting him earlier (as Erika had demanded he do), no problem, Sergio sneers back, and after he leaves, it's still nada, nada for Conrado.
so this lady that sets everything up for Sergio, what's in it for her?
yes it seems mama Irene has taken a liking to Renato, who I would guess never had a mother, or a girlfriend for that matter, only a patron.
ah yes, Vero really poured it out to the only man she has ever loved, how it's over, (how odd the only sane person in this bunch seems like a psycho), this will probably fall apart when Lu decides to stick with pop.
loved the scene where the Continental pulls up and the front and rear doors spring open in opposing directions, and out steps Leandro, and guys.
(on Wed. show, did anyone get what Anas had Conrado ask that guy in the bar?)
Deb, I though he asked the guy where do you buy some good coke around here, as Anas wanted to find out what the competition was doing. The guy responded, What do I look like, a drug dealer? and got mad, after which Anas hit him over the head with a glass, so they could escape. It could have been a prank, but at the time, I thought they really wanted to scope out the drug territories.
wonderful recap NovelaMaven!
laughed when our men-in-black-with-shades, Dan/Pablo, appeared side-by-side walking in step, to confront Lili.
when Genaro and Lili were speeding away, Pablo lined up a shot, but Dan ran out in front of him, they do good cop scenes.
I have to say that I was really enjoying Lucia not believing what Dan had to say, and especially loved him being hauled away for a crime he did not commit, but I don't think it will be icewater showers for him, unlike Dan, Lucia has a thing for injustice.
wow, Elena telling Octavio that Lili killed Vicky, but wait, it was only a premonition Lucia had, didn't seem like a good thing to do, but didn't Octavio make a good case that it wasn't an accident, because Vicky was so athletic/agile, and would have been extra careful since she was pregnant.
I really didn't catch the shoelace thingy, thanks for that NM.
it won't be long before Ignacio needs yet another heart.
say, doesn't Elena have a kid?
I think life is just a game for Olegario,
and he is having fun.
Aficionada, I so enjoyed your recap of Wednesday's episode and appreciated all the attention to detail. It's not a lot of fun fighting technology. Thanks for toughing your way to the end.
LXV mentioned the truncated credits we've seen lately. In my experience, that often means the episode has been edited, and what we see is not exactly what was shot or what was or will be shown in another market. I was thinking that Wednesday's episode had been heavily and choppily edited and would be tough to recap coherently. You, however, did a bang-up job.
[I suspect there was material in the Carlos/Deya scene that was redacted, and there was probably more to the sting in the hotel than we saw, just to name a couple of things. Because telenovelas love smooth transitions, a choppy transition is always suspect, I find.]
LXV
You are such a generous reader. Thank you for your kindness.
What a nice observation about "mirroring" in this novela.
And yes,we are always being teased by "meaningful" looks. We assume/hope/expect that a character has had an 'aha' moment, and yet in the next scene, that person appears to be as clueless as ever.
I am hoping that the ending is not totally bleak and that Daniel doesn't have to go the way of Javert. I don't watch telenovelas to be bummed out (that's what I have real life for) :)
Señor EC
Thanks! Yes, Rafael is not winning any points with Lucía. (But how could it be otherwise? His normal person veneer is very thin, and even if he really were Rafa, she'd still be in love with Daniel.)
Deb
"unlike Dan, Lucia has a thing for injustice."
Lucía is so much better than everyone else in this story, except, perhaps, for the late Sor Amparo (I wasn't watching the show around the time she was killed, and was horrified to hear of it when I started tuning in again.) ... or is it that Dan is so far from being a fully-developed human being?
I think life is just a game for Olegario,
and he is having fun."
Yes and no. He's not a very good loser, and he's definitely losing with Lucha.
I think this novela is getting better and better. Each episode is loaded with so much subtlety and foreshadowing. And the writer fools me all the time when what I expect doesn't happen.
Yes, Renato is in love with Anastasia. My sense of him is that he loved her when Nataniel was alive. But he suppressed it better then because of that intense loyalty he had to Nat. That loyalty didn't go away until Nat ordered him killed. I noticed last night but didn't write it that his hand went to his gun when he saw Conrado and Anas on the sofa curled up together. And Irene restrained him. I'm wondering if Irene isn't urging her daughter to go after Conrado so she'll be left with Renato!
It was also quite interesting how heated Anas' reaction to her mother trying it on with Renato was. Is SHE jealous? Or does she just care about Renato as a friend and doesn't think her mother is good enough for him?
I am very confused about Érica's movie. I can't see how it could be really full-on porn, or else how could she not have known. Someone here mentioned that it could have been like those Emanuelle movies I heard about, very suggestive, with nudity but no sex. Don't know for sure as I never saw one. I get the impression that she's somehow going to be shocked when the thing is released and she discovers she IS a porno queen.
I thought Geraldine Bazán knocked it out of the park in her scene telling Adán that she had to get the most important thing in her life, her daughter, away from danger. And Adán in some ways is such an innocent. He can't seem to fully grasp that anyone in the narco trade, whether shooting people or not, is at risk of being wiped out and his family along with him.
Thanks, Novelera. When he goes off to recruit some other dummy that wants to “act” cracked me up.
Erica, open your eyes. Sergio didn’t know the orgy was going on, really? Apparently (hopefully!) Erica did only nudity in her film.
In real life I’d be the first to agree Vero should leave Adán, but I hope these two work it out. Deb, ITA Vero isn’t getting that Lu won’t go quietly with her.
Hombre, thanks for what Quezada said about Iggy marrying Paola if something happened to him. I was confused when I heard “marriage.” Paola seems to be baiting Iggy and would turn against him in a heartbeat. Of course, Iggy is a hit man and gang rapist, so wishing him all the worst.
Saúl is a mess. Surely he hasn’t been doing coke for a long time. Interesting to see how Anas will control him. I still see him as wanting to be a hero in the eyes of the police force.
I thought Irene later warned her daughter away from Conrado, or at least cautioned her about getting too involved. He's married, and Irene has been in this situation before (several times) and it never worked out for her. She may have stopped Renato because it would hurt Ana and the business in the long run. She's smart. Cold, but smart. Like mother, like daughter.
I'm sad, though, for these couples falling apart.
Kelly
On Erica, what I fear is that Sergio may splice her simple nude scenes with something else that makes it look like she did much more.
Interesting fact. Sergio's name in the show is Sergio di Franco. There was a famous Spanish film director, Jess Franco, who made over 100 erotic movies in the 70's and 80's, although many of his were erotic horror films, such as Vampyros Lesbos. He later turned to hard core, but many his earlier films had nudity, but no actual sex.
Coincidence?
Kelly, what I remember about the sequence of Anas and Irene's conversation was that, at first, Irene took the conventional tack of warning her daughter that hoping a married man was going to leave his wife and be with her was foolish. And that it hadn't ever worked out for her. But right at the end she kind of surprised me and told Anas that if she wanted Conrado she should fight for him.
Thanks, NovelaMaven for both your recap and comments. And Aficionada, my apologies for forgetting to thank you for your last recap.
Thanks, LXV, for the mirroring comment. Although I've noticed it with Dan and Carlos, I have to admit I never thought Carlos was taking advantage of Deya (during their private moments). Perhaps Rad's "mirroring" is with his relationship with Diablo. He tries to stand up for himself but Diablo reminds him that he's just his servant.
Ah, Pablo...I guess he needed to hear it from another person (Rodriquez). So glad he woke up. Perfect timing since Rad and Diablo are plotting against him too. And it looks like the new chief will have the stench of corruption all over him...getting in the way of every attempt to clear Daniel's name.
spanish student
Spanish student About Carlos & Deyanira: I wouldn't have thought it either but for the fact that, after several hot'n'heavy rendezvous, she called him on it, accusing him of not treating her like a real novia, someone he would proudly take out on a date in public, or introduce socially. And it's true, he very firmly told her marriage was out of the question, as if to say, "how would someone like you, expect to marry someone like me?" So, clearly, he has his own issues. But, she still l-u-u-u-ves him and is not above these ugly, neurotic tricks she's playing to get his attention. Wonder if she managed to get herself knocked up and what might that portend? Oh yeah, I forgot, End of Telenovela = lots o'bebes!
LXV, i do understand her issues with him I guess i felt its never a good idea to demand marriage ...so she pretty much asked for a harsh "NO". However after reading your comment i can see that her current beau is not "the one". Telenovelas do fancy weddings and babies at the end and they've found another way to stir up tension with her and Carlos. I was convinced she really liked her new beau so i was hoping for Carlos/Helena since i thought Helena was done with Pablo. So wrong. Lol
Spanish student
Spanish student: Yes, agreed " its never a good idea to demand marriage". I guess my point is that she's pretty primitive in her expectations and he's overly analytical, constrained by class prejudices. She's defensive & he's dismissive. They still want each other, even though they seem at cross-purposes (especially this last encounter).
If Elena does go with Carlos, then who gets Pablo? He's too much of a hunk to be left soltero at the end. (and I don't think we can consider the likes of Marina, even as a consolation prize.) Maybe Marisela!
LXV, yes, I was thinking Pablo and Marisela. They speak the same language but I won't be so quick with my guesses this time. Well, except that today's episode confirmed the eventual Dan/Lucia reunion.
Spanish student
spanish student : Yup! and the new development at Police HQ means that Mari might need a bit of protection close by; and we know Evaristo is about to be occupied with parenthood, so that leaves Pablo. But I'll wait to write the recap tomorrow morning.
spanish studentYou wrote to me, " … my apologies for forgetting to thank you for your last recap." Thank you so much for that thought.
I have been walking around thinking to you, "As soon as I get a chance, i'll be replying to your kind and helpful comments. Sorry!"
Aficionada
Thank you so much, spanish student! And for all your great comments and details!
I am still mourning Vicky, too. What a great character, and delightfully gifted actress. She seemed to be so central to the story that it shocked me, but maybe she will keep appearing in spirit for a while more. I, too, wish very much that she ghost would visit Octavio. And I would love to see her haunt Liliana lots more.
"I just hope [Daniel] learns to control himself (without Marina) and starts thinking 2 steps ahead of Oleg in order to outsmart him." Deep sigh … Please yes!
"The Senator is married had an affair with a man that was recorded." Thank you for clearing that up for me, it is a key part of this story. And for adding that important part about Deyanira wanting a child, and that connection to her calling Carlos that night.
"When I read part 1 of your recap about Deya wanting to be remembered by Lucia, I had one of Lucha's premonitions." I see what you mean! I would love to see Deya come out of this happy, but that definitely seems to be one of those tn omens we are all so familiar with.
Hombre, h&d, then, now known as El Señor Eternamente Cambiado o Señor EC, how was Aylín Mujica in the interview? I find her fascinating. She plays the most awful characters so incredibly well! Then, in interviews, she is wonderful!
Thank you about sharing the streaming pain! I think of you often when I am struggling with all of that.
LXV, I can not express how much your words of my efforts and writing mean to me, especially coming from YOU! Your writing, insight, wit, kindness and spirit of fun always astonish me! Your encouragement has been everything to me, from the very first time I so nervously posted a thing, to my adventures in recapping. Thank you, thank you so very much!!
I learn from you, constantly!
NovelaMaven, thank you for your great recap of thursday's capitulo!! And for filling in recapping Los Miserables!
I want you to know that your words, especially "you are on a roll," filled me to the brim with delight and reinvigorated me to get the next parts of that wednesday recap done! And I tell you, at that moment, I wasn't at all sure I could.
Thank you so very much!! And for your words of my writing that mean so very much to me! Your writing and perceptiveness, and generosity, are gifts to, and to us from, this great place, and I learn much from you!
ps - I read People en Español online every chance I get. LOVE it!

This show continues to rivet our attention, with almost every character walking a razor sharp edge between life and death, happiness and despair, trust and betrayal.
LQ approaches the country estate house where he's to meet Anas, gun drawn. There's nobody inside. He goes room to room, kicking open doors, but nada. Outside, he enters an outbuilding, like a barn, and there's Victor Manuel, gagged and bound to a chair in the middle of the room. LQ doesn't notice a cord running from VM's chair up to the ceiling. VM tries in vain to communicate through his gag, but LQ pushes him, the cord pulls, and this triggers a hidden gun, which shoots LQ! He's hit once or twice, in the lower abdomen, and writhes on the floor.
Meanwhile, at LQ's warehouse, his twenty guys (besides Iggy and 4 others who were backup at the meetup) are having a meal of soup. We see the cook pour some powder in. The cook isn't eating, says he ate earlier. But the men start to throw up, start dropping to the floor! One guy realizes the cook did something, shoots him in the shoulder, what was in the soup? Arsenic! The men start dying, and here comes Reanto, calmly bring explosives in from his car. The cook was working for Renato, who places the explosives, walks outside, and pushes the button on his remote. BOOM! The warehouse explodes, some of the dying men lunge out, flame-covered, but it looks as though Anas has triumphed. This also blew up all of LQ's cocaine (although he can get new shipments later).
In the barn, Anas walks up to LQ, sticks her high heel in his stomach wound, and GRINDS it in. She tells him this is payback. He says kill me now, but she won't, she needs him alive. By the time Iggy and crew arrive, Anas is out of there. They're appalled, rush LQ to the warehouse, where they're shocked to see it in flames. They then go to their house, and of course LQ won't let himself go to a hospital. They have your typical crooked doctor on hand, who says there's no hope. But as usual, when Iggy points a gun at him and says, either save him or you're DEAD, the doc does the impossible, and LQ's gonna be okay.
Anas and Renato rejoice over a drink, and have a big hug. Renato's face shows he is VERY much in love with her, but of course he won't do anything to further this. He leaves. Conrado had confronted Erica about the promotional photos, but she refuses to show them to him. He tries and tries, finally says I won't force you, and very dramatically, walks out. He heads right over to Anas, she's happy to see him, and this time, it looks as if the ARE going to do it. We'll see.
Gina's in Anas's drug factory, overseeing things, when Elias shows up. He's upset that she's there, is involved in this, she should be resting, caring for her pregnancy. She's shocked that he's on the team, didn't he want vengeance against Anas, this is crazy! He says that's all in the past, but Gina isn't buying it, she start ranting about what an evil person Anas is, when Anas shows up, grabs her by the neck, and let's her have a piece of her mind. Anas says that she really LOVED Nat, unlike Gina, who just used him for his money, and screwed up Anas's life by screwing Nat and getting pregnant. So shut up!
Sergio tells someone on the phone that he wants the money BEFORE they release the film. His assistant Carmen says when are you going to show the film to Erica? Apparently, they used another actress in many of the final scenes!!!!
Vero tells Adán it's a done deal, they're getting a divorce, and he pleads and pleads, but no. We thought Erica was going to talk to Vero, but Vero actually goes to talk to Analia. How do you do it? she asks. Analia says it was a shock for her to find out Alejo was in drugs, but she learned to accept it, and look how she lives now. When she arrived in this country, she didn't have a dime. And she confides, she doesn't love Alejo anymore. She knows money can't make you happy, but it sure can ease the pain! Uh oh, Alejo overheard the whole thing! Analia tells Vero don't get divorced, that's the worst thing you could do. With time, you'll accept it. Vero's still pretty much set on the divorce. When she leaves, Alejo comes in, tells Analia he heard everything, and he'll never forgive her. How DARE she stay with him just for his money, and not love him!!
Adán and Luciana bond, she asks what's wrong, he says your Mom doesn't love me anymore. (this really affected me). Please, Daddy, promise me you won't get divorced, we'll still be a family. He promises. Vero comes in, Lu rushes to her, please don't split up with Daddy, please! Vero promises her that everything will be for the best. But so far, we don't know if Vero's mind has been changed.
Anas tells Renato that Lansing, their supplier in Colombia, is trustworthy, but he and his crew are all drug addicts, and are not business-minded enough. They need to get some new routes.
Daytona also shows up at Lu's house, tells Lu she wasn't the one who planted the drug. Lu doesn't care, she's not her friend. Daytona also sees Adán, before being swiftly ushered out by Lu, and outside, says something like, you'll be sorry, Lu!
The excitement continues!
Great recap, Hombre! Many thanks!
I kept thinking that Iggy et al. would arrive while Anas was standing over LQ with her spiked heel in his wound. They were close enough to hear the gunshots, and they ran as fast as they could, so what took them so long? I guess they were slowed down by having to go through the house first before getting to the other building, but still.... Anas seemed to be in no hurry.
There were, as usual, a number of things I missed. Thanks for pointing out that Sergio et al apparently used another actress for some of the scenes (presumably the most porno). I bet her face won't be visible in these scenes, and that it will seem as if Erica is the woman doing all the porno.
I can't believe that Daytona had the chutzpah to go to Lu's house and claim she still wants to be her friend. (What's the Spanish word for chutzpah? All I can think of is cojones, but....) Even if she didn't plant the marijuana in Lu's locker (I'm sure she was behind it, even if one of her minions actually put the marijuana in the locker), she did apparently go right to the principal to tell him about Lu's selling it and having it in her locker.
THE NEWLYWEDS' APARTMENT
Olegario can't stifle his rabia at the mention of his rival's name, particularly as Lucia expressed it: "You know perfectly well that I love Daniel". Now, is this any way to treat your new husband, who's just brought you home to the apartment he used to shack up with your sister and worst enemy? Lucia's really showing her agallas as she repudiates the fabulous apartment that any woman would be thrilled to live in. "Well, I'm not any woman, and I don't want it."
Elena arrrives with the kids and introduces Rosa, the prospective maid, who used to work at the Casa Echeverría, but quit when Radames struck her in the face. Rosa is getting along with the kids and starting to learn her way around the kitchen. El Diablo takes his leave, but not before planting a neat little territorial kiss on Lucha's lips. She grimaces
HELL-HOLE HIDEAWAY
Genaro enters, with a bouquet of roses and good news for Liliana. About Dan's arrest, and how there's going to be somebody to taking over his department, someone they can work with.
She's in a sort of hallucinatory fugue state; tosses the roses back and waltzes him around, her perro fiel, to imaginary music, all the while saying "Sh-sh-sh, don't wake Vicky" It's their victory waltz; all their dreams will come true: riches, power and to get out of this hell-hole, and all our enemies will be dead, and we'll dance on their corpses. She's cu-cu, but Genaro doesn't quite get it. He laughs along.
THE LUNCH PLACE
The "good" cops hold a confab about who they suspect is the infiltrator. So, their 3rd choice is Genaro, he started out good, but turned out to be a traitor. "he was always jealous of Dan..." "Yeah, but don't forget, he was very intelligent" They mull over the possibilities: a couple of soplones in the agency, and ultimately reject their 3rd choice; so that leaves ... El Diablo Marrero. Pablo spells it out: "the guy's alive, he faked his own death with the twin brother thing and fooled us all."
POLICE HQ
Octavio shows up at the desk of that ratba*tard, Lopez, still wearing his funeral duds. Lopez starts to reveal his true nature gives the kid a hard time. Pablo calls him on it and Lopez takes him down as well, throwing his weight around. "You're not the boss of me!" Mari speaks up and warns this upstart that when things get sorted out, he'll get his if he doesn't watch his step.
Pablo has to break the news to Octavio; the kid remonstrates in disbelief. Pablo says, rather unconvincingly, "Stay calm, this will all work out in the end."
"THE" APARTMENT
Elena gives Rosa a good reference and Lucha hires her on the spot, warm & fuzzy moment. Elena can't understand how Lucia can live in this apartment, considering who used to live here. Lucia can't either; she wants to get out. Elena asks Lucy if she's happy that they've jailed the guy who hounded her all these years. Lucy says, "No, I love him, how can I be happy, he's lost everything and he's no murderer." Elena, who would know about these things, tries to argue that Dan can be violent; but Lucy extenuates: only in self-defense or to save an innocent life; never in cold blood.
POLICE HQ
Pablo implores Alejandro (who has resumed his tough guy persona) to let the kid in to see his uncle. He has to play the bereavement sympathy card to get the guy to budge, but at last they give Octo a pass, and Pablo gets to go too. (Alej is actually a softie after all). They rush to Dan's cell. "I'm innocent, I swear" "We know and believe it or not, I've come around: I believe now, that El Diablo is alive." Pablo elaborates on the intricate plot to sink Daniel. Dan wants Octo to go live at his house with the baby, bring Chelo, but get out of your grandfather's house. They exchange fond sentiments, and Octo goes off to play daddy to his little girl.
THE HELL-HOLE
Radamés comes for a visit to the pigsty. "How can you live in this chiquero? He greets "la diosa" Liliana who prances onstage, which is Diablo's cue to spring onto the set from behind a pillar. "A really stupid goddess!", he snarls. She tells him to soften his tone. He says he'll talk as he pleases; and to give thanks to Beelzebub that he's letting her stay alive.. He's heard about her showing up at the burial. "What's the matter, have you fried your brains with all the drugs, or are you crayzee?" They threaten each other back & forth: If you touch me, I'll take you down with me." "You wanna end up naked in an empty lot?" Of course, Diablo gets the upper hand and announces the big news: they've got their guy installed as chief of the narcotics division, replacing Daniel Ponce. In walks the bruiser from Mexicali.
THE APARTMENT
Lucia & Rosa discuss the housekeeping; Lucy wants to help out against the protests of Rosa. They greet the kids, who rush in. "Hey, slow down, no running in here," Lucy admonishes. They race of to play hide and seek. Memin goes into El Diablo's office and finds a pistol (and it's loaded? requetechida?). He fires off a few fake rounds when Diablo catches him & roughly disarms him. Memin retorts: "Your bad, like your brother el diablo." "Shut up, you!" Lucy intervenes, "You don't hit my kids!" His response is that he reacted so strongly because he was alarmed for Memin's safety. "Then, what is that gun doing in this house; do you or don't you want to be a father?" She lashes out; "Every day it seems I know you less and less." This gives Gabriel Porras a chance to glint that formerly gold tooth.
HOSPITAL, NEWBORN NURSERY
Octo very much wants to be a father; Chelo is expertly burping little Vicky and explaining the delicacies of baby care to the befuddled Octavio. He blurts out that he wants her to come live at his uncle's apartment with him & the baby. She welcomes this warmly.
THE APARTMENT
Rosa is vacuuming, Diablo enters wanting to know who she is. "I'm the new maid." He glares, disconcertingly, at her (as if he remembers seeing her somewhere?). She gives a very cute comic shrug.
POLICE HQ
The new jefe Enrique Vidal is introduced to his staff in glowing terms by some muckety-muck in a suit, accompanied by the corrupt senator. Said jefe is wearing the requisite police thug outfit. He swaggers in as if he owns the place. Evaristo & Leon give each other sideward glances of skepticism. Pablo silently shakes his head in the "no" direction.
Lopez takes the first opportunity to brown nose and is rewarded by public acknowledgement from this thug. Then, he pretty much tells Leon, that where he comes from (yeah, Mexicali! sorry if you all might be from there, but my friends tell me it ain't the D.F.) they don't let girl-cops carry guns, or work the street. Her place is in the office, lookin' nice for us fellas, Right? Right! Leon protests that around here, women are equal to men. The brute shuts her down real fast. An order is an order, got that? She can only nod weakly. [Good god, my blood is boiling.]
He calls his stooge, Lopez, into his office, missing no opportunity to ogle and leer lasciviously at Leon. Pablo, looking very disconcerted, manages to keep his head.
The conference with Lopez & the new jefe is what we would expect: He gets a raise and a promotion in exchange for all the inside info on everthing that goes on in the department. Lopez is salivating at his new opportunity as rat & stool-pigeon.
JAILCELL
Lucia has gained entrance thanks to a momentary lapse of Alejandro's tough guy stance. What follows is pretty tedious (IMHO) but the upshot of it is she understands, forgives, believes. He's so ashamed he can't look her in the face; he begs forgiveness, bla-bla-bla. She can't stop thinking about him. "Porque el amo se manda...te amo" And...they...kiss...through the prison bars. they rehash all their sorry history of blame & recrimination.
THE APARTMENT
Nuria knocks loudly; Rosa opens the door. "Who are you?" Diablo is nonplussed. "What are you doing here. "Well, the mountain wouldn't come to mohammed, so...I need money!" "Get out, I'll meet you in the park."
In the park, he lambastes her for showing up. She whines that she needs money, and this isn't the way she thought things were supposed to end up . He growls at her to "chill out," but pulls a wad out of his billfold and sends her packing. We haven't heard the last of Nuria yet!
THE HELL-HOLE
Genaro ushers in a cadre of plaid-shirted henchmen in cowboy hats who deposit several crates in the far corner. Exit henchmen. Lili, starts to head out the door with her big purse and even bigger sunglasses, He challenges her;" you can't just go out when you want." " Look, nobody's the boss of me."
"This is a really big drug deal. If we screw up, we're screwed. Just hang tight until it's over. We need the money." "Oh you pathetic thing, always settling for the crumbs. You'll never be more than a poor stray dog." "Well, I'd rather be a live stray than a dead thoroughbred." [ I love this character, he knows who he is] She flounces off.
THE HELL-HOLE(cont'd)
Nuria enters with Diablo. Genaro gouses until Diablo sets him straight. "La gata" is staying here and your going to treat her like a guest. I've got no quarrel with that, but "la gata" is going to have to steer clear of Liliana. Nuria turns to Diablo, "Hey, can't you take me someplace else, some nice suite where I can wait for you in all day in baby dolls." Sorry toots, this is how it's coming down right now, so get with the program. And if Lil gives you any trouble, I'll take care of it." "OK boss says Genaro, whatever you say." "Where the heck is she anyway?" "No idea, she just went out." "OK, Genaro, lets get one thing straight. You gotta keep her under control. she's Nutso, and that don't work for me. So keep a lid on her. I'm the one giving orders and I don't want to have to fight with her. ¿Estamos? The ever-compliant stray dog nods in subservient agreement.
JAILCELL
These two are still singing their sad duet. He smiles when he realizes she really does l-u-u-u-ve him; but she says we have such terrible history it won't be easy..and then he queers the deal with his same old rant: "What's it going to take to convince you that your husband is really el diablo?"
This goes on until she admits to her misgivings and how her husband has changed, more violent, strange. Dan presses the point. She really doesn't want to hear it, or think about it. "You're so obsessed." "You're probably right, I know I;m stubborn but it's because I love you; take your time thinking about this. But talk to Pablo" "Why?" "Because he now thinks that Rafael is El Diablo." She rolls her eyes in frustration and fear. On the brink of realization, about to drop the denial. [You can do it, Lucha!!!] She concedes: if what you say is true, then my children and I are in grave danger.
HOSPITAL
Chelo tells her dad about the plan to live at Daniel's with Octavio & little Vicky. Fernanda grimaces at this development. "Why, what's up with you , Ma. Oh, you haven't heard the news. Daniel is in jail. Accused of murder"
EL CEMENTARIO
Lily's found her way to the heap of freshly-mounded dirt. She heaps blame on Vicky for not having handed over the flash drive. Otherwise, none of this would have happened. Well, I would have had to do it anyways to stop you from betraying me. Why'd you have to go sticking your nose where it didn't belong? She thinks back to the terrible murderous torture and suddenly makes the connection to the stuffed animal. That's it!...the memoria is in the maldita muñeco.
Lilian is leaving when she is spied by Octavio who's come to visit the grave. He shouts after her
BACK AT THE HELLHOLE
Olegario gets a progress report about the huge shipment of drogas. They're dealing with Ecuadorians, the cargo is hidden in crates of flowers; slated to arrive in Veracruz in 3 days. Genaro will be there to receive it with whomever Oleg picks to go with him. Oleg is pleased with the stray dog's subservient performance, such that he just might someday forget that he betrayed him. Genaro plays along with is groveling and Oleg starts to expand on how rich they're all going to be, Nuria, included,??? I guess so, because he smiles benevolently in her direction. (Porras can smile in my direction any day of the week)
BACK IN POLICE HQ
The new boss, Vidal is reviewing personnel files with the stooge, Lopez: "Pablo Riobueno, Ponce's 2nd in comand, you gonna can him?" "Nah, keep him around to see if he and Ponce are up to anything." "Forget it boss, Ponce is history." "One thing you've got to learn in this business, kid, is that nobody's finished until you've got their head in your hands." Lopez glances grimly off the side. "Now, what about those other two?" "Oh the only thing they think about is sex; they're just a couple of bootlickers to Daniel Ponce." Vidal is interrupted as he makes crude sexist remarks about Leon, by the abrupt entrance of Marina, who I am sure is accustomed to busting her way in, unannounced, to Daniel's office. She is in for a big surprise. Ever the "gentleman" this big goon actually stands up to greet her with the news.
POLICE HQ / JAILCELL
The sorry couple hold hands through the bars. She agrees to talk to Pab. Viewerville is thinking it's on the verge of a catfight, what with the non-plussed Marina making her way in the direction of our star-crossed amantes. Near miss, however. She's busy whining her incredulity at Pablo who has just finished telling her that it would be really difficult to get her in to see Dan, when who should emerge from the jail cell hallway. "¿Lucia? what are you doing here?" "Actually, I'm here to talk to Pablo" says our grave-visaged heroine. Marina butts and hijacks her for a pressing convo in the cafeteria. Lucia will catch up with Pablo later.
HOSPITAL, ADRIANA'S ROOM
That girl can't wait to get outta there, walk around, smell some fresh air, and who can blame her? Her new doctor lays out the bad news: she's not better and the baby is at risk, furthermore, she's got a critical obstetrical condition: placenta previa (or praevia, if you're a Brit). For those not in the know, this means that the placenta has implanted over the outlet of the uterus and from a strictly mechanical point of view, it means the baby will have to be removed by Caesarian. And considering the progress of her deteriorating pre-eclampsia, her new doctor thinks she ought to consult the most renowned specialist for this condition, a certain Dr. Mallorca. "Gasp, gulp, you mean...?"
So, Abel and the OB conference with Doc Mallorca, who's not in favor of moving ahead just yet; the baby isn't developed enough. The OB says it would be safer to do it now than wait. Abel wants to know, for both? Gonzalo wants a third opinion, her situation is the most complicated he has ever seen. Abel thinks it's Adri's decision to make. He goes off to tell her.
BACK AT EL CEMENTARIO
Lily tries to get in her car to beat a hasty retreat. Octavio is in hot pursuit. "What was Vicky so scared of?" he shouts "Leave me alone" she snarls back. A nasty contretemps ensues. Accusations and denials. She shoves him; he counters, "is that how you pushed her down the stairs?" She pulls a gun on him. "Do you really want that to leave your baby an orphan?" "Then, it's true?!?!" She kicks him in the family jewels and makes her getaway.
JAILCELL
Daniel gets a visitor; a certain "Memo" Evidently a lawyer, or official or both or something. They're old friends. He knew Cesar. Dan tells his sad saga in a nutshell; this guy Memo is very reassuring; they go way back; he'll get him outta this mess.
RADAMES OFFICE
He's on the phone; "Well, the cop is behind bars; but he's gone got himself a good lawyer, from the Velez Associates office." Diablo, on the other end says, "I don't care a peanut about his lawyer. Justice is on our side. Who is this guy, anyway? "Oh he's good enough to topple our case, his name is Guillermo Velez." "Well, then what are you waiting for, or do I have to take care of this myself?" "I've already got that: all his personal info: his wife, where his kids go to school, etc,"
Diablo pats him on the back for being so on top of this emerging situation, "Good, then get on it! Get rid of him!"
CAFETERIA
Marina just wants set things straight; she's interested in Daniel, no, she's in love and he could love her back if only Lucha would just make herself scarece. "Well, look honey, it's like this, I have no control over his feelings."
"You know what, you're like el perro de las dos tortas" (which I think translates to something like " you can't have your cake and eat it too"). "Whaddya mean by that?" asks Lucy. "Well, you're a married woman aren't you?, then leave him alone and stick to your own knitting" (she didn't really say that, but you catch my drift) Lucia can only smirk at this pathetic pretender.
¡Hasta el próxima lunes, chicas y chicos!
omgoddess, LXV!! I was THRILLED to see your wonderfully long recap up, about to settle in for a deeply satisfying read, as they always are, read the first lines, then, "Now, is this any way to treat your new husband, who's just brought you home to the apartment he used to shack up with your sister and worst enemy?" and just simply cracked up, to tears!!
What a crux! You always get it in a sentence. Oh, the gifts!!
Thank you!!!
now, back to that utterly spellbinding read

Agnes, it's always a treat when a recapper does a novela justice, but when, as here, a recapper transcends the novela, it is an exquisite delight. Just to cite a single passage:
"She's in a sort of hallucinatory fugue state; tosses the roses back and waltzes him around, her perro fiel, to imaginary music, all the while saying "Sh-sh-sh, don't wake Vicky" It's their victory waltz; all their dreams will come true: riches, power and to get out of this hell-hole, and all our enemies will be dead, and we'll dance on their corpses. She's cu-cu, but Genaro doesn't quite get it. He laughs along."
You capture the scene as written and performed, and you add depth that is likely beyond what even the writers envisioned. Bravo!
I felt a little sick at the end of the episode with the talk of attorney Guillermo and how Diablo intends to deal with him. Haven't we seen enough Evil trumps Good? Do we really another iteration of this ghastly pattern? But maybe Guillermo is more savvy than Lucía's lawyer was and knows how to protect himself and his family...
I love the way Elena has emerged as the pillar of the family lately, the cool head, the protector, the dispenser of sensible advice -- not so much in this episode, but recently.
Yes, the new bully from Mexicali does give that place a black eye!
Anyway -- thank you so much for allowing us a glimpse of this show through your eyes. Absolutely splendid!
NvMv: "But maybe Guillermo is more savvy than Lucía's lawyer was and knows how to protect himself and his family..." ¡Ojala! I'm actually getting emotional about this.
Aficionada Thanks so much for your kind enthusiasm. It does take a long time to write these long recaps, but I love to do it, and so happy when others enjoy it as much as I do. Someday I'll learn to summarize & condense a bit, but since I'm trying NOT to skim over the vocab, I end up rewinding the conversations until I'm sure I've got it. Every time I end up with a list of words I've had to look up. LOL!
AND...this is an excellent production. I look forward to it every night in a way I rarely do. Fine acting, interesting writing. It's very tight. None of the usual beanie-tightening we have to do —well maybe the hospital scenes require a bit of the old "suspension of disbelief".
Thanks, Hombre. Great opening and recap. ITA every person in this TN is on the edge. Funny that the two people I can’t stand the most are Sergio and Daytona and neither has tortured or murdered anyone.
So Iggy and his comrades carry out LQ and just leave Victor Manuel tied to the chair.
The guys lunching on the stew were just working grunts. Anas crossed a line having them killed like that.
I had a tough time watching Anas grind her spike heel into LQ’s wound - Yikes!
Poor Renato will probably never tell Anas how he feels. Wondering if Modesta will catch on that Renato loves Anas. If Irene wasn’t so busy wanting Renato for herself, she would notice.
Poor Alejo. Even though he cheats on Analia now and then, he thought she had true love for him. His eyes looked so hurt. Nice job.
Analia was so brittle and cynical that she actually might've influenced Vero to run the other way. Vero has been wearing cooler clothes lately, but since the husband narcotraficante news, she’s back to her old clothes.
LXV, words can not express ….
You: "Someday I'll learn to summarize & condense a bit …. " Please do not let that concern you, at all. It is perfection.
"You're not the boss of me!" Lopez to Pablo when Octo is there. I could HEAR Lopez' whingeing voice.
"This gives Gabriel Porras a chance to glint that formerly gold tooth." I see it too! Ay, Gabriel Porras!!
"[Good god, my blood is boiling.]" Mine too!! (" … lookin' nice for us fellas, Right?")
NovelaMaven: " … but when, as here, a recapper transcends the novela, it is an exquisite delight."
YES!!! still tears here.
I was coming to write, "More! More!! Can't you please just write us a whole 'nother new telenovela, LXV?" when I read that comment by you, NovelaMaven. "exquisite delight." And, you, how beautifully you say it, NovelaMaven: "Absolutely splendid!"
OK, so, well, um … swoon.
LOVE it.
NvMv: "I felt a little sick at the end of the episode with the talk of attorney Guillermo and how Diablo intends to deal with him. Haven't we seen enough Evil trumps Good? Do we really another iteration of this ghastly pattern? But maybe Guillermo is more savvy than Lucía's lawyer was and knows how to protect himself and his family … "
I think this is going to be up to our " 'good' cops" trio. Hoping, at least. For the same reason you said, "Do we really … "?!
LXV: " … None of the usual beanie-tightening we have to do —well maybe the hospital scenes require a bit of the old 'suspension of disbelief'." :D
Pure delight.
Muy muchas gracias y mas ...

wow, thanks Hombre,
there is never anything ordinary about your recaps,
they all sparkle!
ah, the twists and turns of narco love.
Anas/Renato
YES, I could see Renato's undying love for Anas,
but she is his Patrona, and he won't cross that line.
BUT, what really jumped out is Anas intense love for Renato,
and how she also won't cross that line,
because it would destroy Renato, their relationship, and everything they have together.
(wow, this writer is so good at showing me things I would never be able to see)
this IS a gran amor that will never arrive,
better for Anas to play with someone she doesn't really care about.
I thought Victor Manuel,
got shot as well,
but who cares?
and the poisonisto, didn't he get shot how many times in the back, and managed to run away.
Vero/Adan
what makes this so intense is that although Adam might stray, nah, but that Vero has never looked at another man, and wasn't Analía pretty much telling her to put her emotions on the back burner, and go with the flow, can Vero be a good narco wife, without love?
Analía/Alejo
ut, oh!
Paola/Iggy
wow, were they going to have sex right there next to a dying Leandro, whew!
Erika/Conrado
interesting, been there, done that, now they are looking in different directions.
and Daytona, I would like to see her laying on the speedway during a race.
Lu melts my heart every time, she speaks of life, and love, and caring.
ahha, looking at the Miami film permits for the past week I see,
Dueños del Paraiso
Tierra de Reyes
El Jardinero
hmm, I was thinking El Jardinero was going to be filmed in LA, maybe they are doing promos.
http://www.miamitodaynews.com/2015/02/11/filming-miami-february-12-2015/
wow lxv!
how is it that you can tell this story better than Telemundo can?
and for the first time last night I could see slick Dan the police man, all nice and clean, suffering away in his cell (who doesn't even have a clue as to what Lucia went through) working the selfless love that she has for him, no way does this guy deserve a woman like Lucia.
"(Porras can smile in my direction any day of the week)" haha,
in an earlier novela someone came up with some off-set photos of him and the kid actors and it looked like they were having a ball, he is such a neat guy!
thanks deb. and all the rest of you out there: It makes my day to hear such nice compliments.
"(who doesn't even have a clue as to what Lucia went through)" and "no way does this guy deserve a woman like Lucia." I am so with you on this. I cannot warm up to him at all; it would take a miracle.
Aficionada: I like anyone who can use "whinge" in a sentence to such good effect.
NvMv "Elena,... the pillar of the family ... the cool head," Yes, it's her almost supernal tranquility amid the ocean of torment that characterizes her whole performance. She's a survivor who isn't sitting around licking her wounds.
Loved your recap, Hombre! And I agree 100% that this show rivets our attention. It's waaaay more than a narconovela. We have seen Renato's intense love for Anastasia, a love that his "code" apparently won't let him express. And last night was the first time we saw that maybe Anas feels more than friendship and gratitude for him. Darn it, Conrado does NOT deserve her. I hate the way some men (actually lots of men) are portrayed in telenovelas: Some woman rejects him or doesn't do exactly what he wants (Érica with the photos) and the guy runs, not walks, toward another woman to salve his ego.
Niecie, it didn't bother me one bit watching Anas grinding her heel into LQ's wound! I just remember all his loud, pompous braying about what he's going to do to her: cut off her head, etc., and he deserves everything he gets.
Kate Castillo is, I think, even better in this novela than she was in LRDS. Heresy, I know. But she had two powerhouse scenes last night: the one with LQ and the one with Gina. I loved when she told LQ he couldn't decide if he wanted to bed her or kill her. And I loved the scene with Gina. Gina tries to play the gentle woman, casting herself as the love of Nat's life. Anas reminded her that she ruined a happy marriage. Of course, Gina seems to have conveniently forgotten how Nat wanted to get rid of her at the very thought Anas might have found out about his side woman.
The plot twist with the arsenic was so clever. I could NOT figure out how Renato was going to blow up the cocaine processing place full of LQ's guys. Tony Dalton is completely believable as someone who could snap one guy's neck and shoot another one in the head before that guy could pull the trigger.
I'm trying to think up punishments awful enough for Sergio. That horrible, sleazy, disgusting monster has probably ruined Érica's life. She'll be in the seductive, sexy scenes and some other body will do the sex acts. But she will never recover from this and have an actual acting career.
Deb, I think it was you who said that Luciana would be the one who convinces Vero to stay in her marriage. Looks like they're going that route.
I really love the nuances of our characters. At the beginning I didn't like Alejo at all, especially when he was forcing Conrado to sell cocaine. Then we saw his personal bravery in being 100% willing to try to rescue Anas. And he has always loved his wife, even if he was unfaithful. His deep hurt at overhearing what Analia said was very moving. Maybe the real estate lady will get her wish now!
I think Anas said that she trusts their supplier in Colombia to provide the cocaine, but the people who transport it are addicts and incompetents. Maybe she's planning on getting some jets like El Señor de los Cielos!
Just thought of something. I know that on the Univisión threads on Caray, Caray some clever person has created the tag line: The Patio of Lowered Expectations where its viewers spend time.
For me Dueños del Paraíso has been The Patio of Exceeded Expectations.
Fantastic Hombre
I kept dosing & only caught in spurts.
Did we get a look at Erica's photos or do we have to use our imagination.
We do have 3 interesting couples stories. That is usually not the case & boring.
Renato kind of reminds me of El Pote in LRDS. There was love, but not on a sexual basis, just total devotion. Renato & Anas both have sexual feelings for each other but suppress them for business reasons. I don't think that happens in cooperate America. It shouldn't happen with Conrado either & I doubt it will. But Anas is feeling horny.
Too bad Gina wasn't at the LQ torture, she might behave better.
I didn't know it was that easy to break a persons neck, a woman yes, but not an apparent husky thick necked man.
What are those things they show in the intro?? Tops of beer cans, ends of gun barrels, cocaine canisters??
This TN is Great, bloody but great
Uh-oh, just had a mal presentimiento! Liliana has surmised the whereabouts of that "maldita memoria" Which means she's going to go after Roxanita. Fortunately, Roxi changed muñecos, but that still won't protect her from the evil intentions of la mala bruja. I hope our young heroina doesn't get tongue-tied again. but I see a dangerous encounter in her near future.
There was even a name for the parts of a film where the hardcore scenes were edited in, "inserts". There was a film called Inserts with Richard Dreyfuss that depicted a low budget director (Dreyfuss) doing this.
Variopinta, we didn't get a look at the photos yesterday, but the day before we got to see them enough to know that they included Erica in the bathtub (we had seen her previously in the tub and wondered if it was more takes of the film).
Kate Castillo was interviewed about the different between her characters in La Reina del Sur and Dueños del Paraiso, and she said her character in Dueños is much darker, not nearly driven as much by circumstances as she was in Reina. Anas is far from a good and noble person, as was Teresa Mendoza. She's not as bad as LQ, she has some sort of code, wouldn't kill innocent people the way LQ did in the mall, but she sure did kill all those workers of LQ's, and not just in a gun battle when it's "okay".
LXV: "Uh-oh, just had a mal presentimiento! Liliana has surmised the whereabouts of that 'maldita memoria' Which means she's going to go after Roxanita."
As you wrote just days ago, "I wonder how much terror they will internalize before they can break free & sueltan la sopa. I bet it will be a scene involving Roxi, Liliana and Lucha."
It is coming.
And, Thank you, too, LXV. Made my day reading it.
Stay warm!
Aficionada
LXV, thanks again for an excellent recap. Cu cu, yes Lili is off and i dont know if she has any real power right now. As i read the words "perro fiel" i thought it would be perfect if she lost Genaro like Diablo lost Anselmo. That would definitely shake up Lopez.
Enrique Vidal didnt waste any time alienating female officers (Mari) and plotting against the good cops, setting the stage for a very unpleasant workplace.
Ah yes, Nuria has a crush on the devil, this should be interesting. I actually would love to see her work with the good cops so i hope she lives to suelta la sopa. Of course Enrique wouldn't allow it.
Marina didnt use an ounce of professional wisdom in her conversation with Lucia. She should know you cant force love. Not to mention with all the deaths and suspicions Lucia has every right to talk to him.
And i agree that one day in jail is not the same as walking in Lucia's shoes. But their not done with him yet so Danny will probably suffer some more. Of course if Diablo eliminates his lawyer he'll only reveal who he really is.

spanish student: I love your astute comments, thanks!
I've started to get a soft spot for Genaro (don't shoot!); and I realize he is completely expendable. And for his crimes, an anvil awaits, but we're seeing more and worse bad guys emerge as this show barrels toward its conclusion.
And when "Memo" Velez showed up, I sighed with relief; at last a good guy on the horizon. But I'm afraid for him and I hope NovelaMaven is right in thinking he is "more savvy...& knows how to protect himself & his family"
The bad guys are really poised to self-destruct about now; you've got that wild card of a Liliana; they've all double-crossed each other enough times that any oaths of fealty mean nothing anymore. Nuria's the only one I see getting out of this because she seems almost animal in her survival instincts.
And I hope to see Danny suffer more...he's still pretty clueless and it's still all about me-me-me.

I'm slowly catching up with episodes, recaps and comments. All if which are very enjoyable.
Many thanks to Hombre and novelera for the work they are putting in to this.
