Vivi--Would you consider stepping in Week 22 on Monday or Thursday?
For Week 23, I will be available for Mon Feb 23, so Thu Feb 26 is still open for a volunteer.
I can do a quickie of Monday, February 16 if Vivi can't.
I think a lot of people did I Can Help.
This is just for you, in the snow laden North. The principal of the elementary school my grandsons attended (long ago) is part of a band my son belongs to. Here's to you, Lila--Hope you enjoy it.
http://www.necn.com/news/new-england/Principal-Rocks-Snow-Day-Video-291274081.html
Those are my son's fingers on the guitar at the very beginning. If you note the shirt, you'll see him briefly later on.
Ok, the pleasant task of recapping is awaiting.
If you watch the video--you have to scroll down to the link, don't stop on the first photo--there's no link.
Thanks, Anita!
Capitulo 103 - Mon Feb 16 is Lila's quickie
Capitulo 106 - Thu Feb 19 is Vivi's.
She is certainly not in danger of any anvils falling on her.
caught up!
lol Anita - 'close encounters of the icky kind' and 'Jorge-Playing the Field and Not Liking It'
Was I the only one who got a jolt of concern @ Amaya's 'o carp I didn't expect this' face when Cesar declared himself? I thought that was the game plan. Maybe she's acting for Ce's benefit but that looked real
re Refugio - oy Anita now I have one more tn to watch
all - feel free to call me sts, I know my handle is unwieldy.
Mariana, on the other hand, has absolutely no control in her dealings with her crazy stalker. Dolores must be rolling in her grave to see what kind of danger both her girls are in.
STS & Vivi -- can't wait for Anita's recap. I'm feeling all kinds of disturbed and I know Floridia is going to blast Amaya. Ep was hard to watch!
I thought it interesting that she also couldn't believe that Lu had lied about the rape incident. Poor Juli and Elo must feel like they are fighting an uphill battle.
About Cesar's declaration and offer: at one point in Amaya's conversation with Caro on the phone, she says things kind of got ahead of her, so maybe she was planning on this sort of arrangement. Or at least in the next scene she's considering it.
Max and Lucio Chat
Starting with Lo Nuevo, Max is greeting Lucio at their dining room table. Lucio is exceptionally chatty. He’s ok with his mamá when he says not anymore with her. Max wonders if there may be someone else. He probes and promises to be there for Lucio and protect him from anyone in the world. Lucio wants to know if he will protect him from César. César scares him, he isn’t nice to him. Cesar didn’t want him to talk about his mamá.
Max looks at him, César knew about their mother and that man? Eloisa is seen in the background. She interrupts Lucio’s concentration. Max gets him to sit down again. Is he sure about César? Lucio nods. Eloisa asks about breakfast. Max says it will just be the three of them since Mauro isn’t home.
Max is left alone in that stark white-on-white living room, reflecting that he’s had no word from Amaya. He calls her and again gets her voice mail. He leaves another message telling her he’s not giving up. He again begs her to call him and ends it with a heartbreaking “te amo.”
Mauro and Luce in Cuernavaca
Mauro arrives to ask Lucrecia to return to the MM. She looks worn out. Her lipstick is nearly as pale as her face. He asks her to forgive him for his earlier behavior and not letting her defend herself. He wants her to return for the good of Lucio. Ah, she says, for the good of Lucio and not because he thinks she’s innocent? Mauro answers that right now Lucio is the priority.
Everything she did, she did for the family. But in this where does she stand? Does he need her, care for her, or just serve as the mother of his children and to lend a presence in his house? (Oh, she is good!) “You were my great love, the man for whom I gave up everything, and regardless of everything, want to spend the rest of my life with.” Mauro says not to complicate things. He’s there not to resolve issues between a couple, but a family matter. She just wants to know one thing. Does he believe she is innocent? Yes, he believes in her, but how could she think that telling him would provoke him to kill Omar? He would have tried to have him punished, but killing him? He’s not a violent man. (Although he has quite a temper, as Luce pointed out.) Mauro says they can’t change the way things went now, but asks her to forgive him and return to the house.
Las Vegas
In the casino game room, César introduces Amaya to some coffee guy who walked up to them. Cece praises her beauty and talent. Amaya smiles but looks uncomfortable. He’s looking forward to her presentation. After the guy leaves, he tells her what he has planned for afterwards, a helicopter trip over the Grand Canyon. He wants her to disconnect from all her problems, experience new things—with him. He stares intently into her eyes. (He gets too close for my comfort.)
Efraín and Uli Chat
Efraín finds him in his fully-furnished pergola to tell Uli how everybody’s talking about what happened the night before in the cantina regarding betting his daughter for a game of cards. The buzz is that Uli won’t make him turn over Mariana. Uli wants to know why not. Efraín says, nowadays no one treats women that way. Uli tells Effer a bet is a bet. If he doesn’t follow through with collecting his “prize,” no one in the pueblo will respect him. They have to learn that nobody plays with him. Effer is still trying to make him see right from wrong. He’s certain Uli will gain a reputation as a very bad man if he takes Mari. There’s still time to rectify this. Effer tries again, Cippy was drunk…..Uli doesn’t let him finish. He always gets what he wants. He’s shown everyone. El P. is now buying coffee *from* him, his finca is as important as theirs. Effer, still trying, says the affair with Mari is different. Uli says, no, it’s not. That girl is going to pay for showing her contempt for him and she’ll do what I want or her father will pay dearly.
Cippy Cup and Mari
Cipriano calls Mariana over at El P. He sounds as if he’s in anguish. He tells her he just cut his hand and she needs to come quick to treat it. (I wouldn’t have predicted this in a million years.) He cuts himself *after* the call. There is blood everywhere.
Mari finds Jorge just as he and Flavia are leaving for the airport to go to the Nescafé fiesta. He tells her Heriberto will drive her to her house and it’s ok to stay a few days with Cip if she needs to. He tries to give her some money for incidentals. She doesn’t want to take it, but then he says it’s merely an advance on her salary. She’s very grateful.
Uli Prepares to Receive a Guest
Uli comes upon one of his servants (I didn’t catch her name, but if it’s Silvia, then she is played by Veronica Montes, and looks a little like her). He tells her to fix up the guest room next to the master bedroom. He also wants her to make sure there are bars on the windows, or chains and for the door to the room to have a padlock on the outside.
Max and Caro Chat
Max is in his Nescafé office signing some papers. Caro is sitting across from him. He wants to know who the new guy in Amaya’s life is. He feels so stupid for not noticing her interest in her attitude. Caro asks him not to put her in the middle. Here is what she told him and then she leaves: “If Amaya had to end it with you, it was because it had to be that way. Sometimes it is a profound act of love. (Max says he can’t believe that. Amaya ended it because of a lack of love, not for what you are trying to make me believe. ) Not everything is what it seems to be.”
Las Vegas Coffee Convention
Meanwhile, in Las Vegas, Mauro and Amaya give a successful presentation. Amaya is pleased, César beams.
Montesinos Mansion
Mauro reappears at the MM garden with Lucrecia in tow—all decked out in a bright red jacket and bright red lipstick. (I guess her future is brighter, too.) Lucio is thrilled to see both of them. Eloisa not so much, especially when she crows that Mauro asked her to come back and here she is.
Way Up North (WUN) Finca
Beca gets an earful from Cecy as they talk in her bedroom at WUN finca. Cecy has loved Iván since university days. In fact, she’s in love with him. Beca loves the idea of the two of them pairing up. Cecy is going to offer him the administrator’s position to keep him at WUN. She’s prepared a picnic for him.
A shirtless, muscle-bound, tanned, absolutely adorable Iván, is telling the other laborers in the field how to make the land more productive—plant more, closer together, the way they do it at El P. They listen, but Tadeo doesn’t like the idea. He doesn’t like change. Cecy walks up with her picnic basket and tells Iván in front of everybody that she will support him. Tadeo is not happy with that and says so, but Cecy tells him he is to do whatever Iván tells him. She is 100% behind Iván. The two of them go off to have her picnic and talk. Tadeo follows them with his eyes. He’s not a happy guy, at all.
Iván is enjoying his picnic. Things are going well, even though storm clouds are gathering in the background (both literally and figuratively). Iván starts to talk. He knows this is a temporary job, but he’d like to be able to make it home fortnightly to see his dad and his sweetheart. Cecy offers him the administrator’s position permanently. The one who is sick is old and when he recovers he will probably retire. She realizes how much she needs him. It’ll pay well and they can negotiate his home visits. Maybe once a month.
Nescafé Office
Max, still in his Nescafé office, is hijacked by Constanza to come see the baby’s first ultrasound. As they are leaving, they pass by Geno’s desk. Caro is standing there and watch them. Geno remarks that maybe they’re getting back together.
At the ob/gyn office, Consta and Max watch as their baby shows up on the ultrasound screen. They react like any normal couple would—amazed, thrilled, happy.
Cip and Mari and The Wound
Mariana arrives home and wants to take Cip to the clinic right away. He adamantly refuses to go. He has no money. She does. Well, he doesn’t like doctors or hospitals. She has to treat his (self-inflicted) wound. Mari goes off to get disinfectant. Cip locks her in. (Excuse me for butting in right here, but it’s either all of Mexico or Televisa that has interior bedroom doors that lock from the outside.)
Cip calls Uli right away. He answers (Dang!). He tells Uli he’s got Mari and he needs to come quick before she gets away. Uli seems to be surprised she doesn’t know she’s what Cip lost gambling. Cip will turn her over to him and she’ll just have to suck it up. He thinks turning over his daughter might be sufficient for Uli to leave him with his house. Why does he want his house, anyway, he’s rich. Uli hangs up on him.
Mariana is rattling the door handle. She seems to be locked in. Cippy pretends to try to unlock it or unjam it, to no avail. He tells her he will have to call a locksmith.
Amaya and César
César and Amaya are back from their tour of the Grand Canyon. They are sitting down at an eatery inside the casino. Without further ado, César bares his cold, cold heart to Amaya, right there with slot machines dinging and pinging and beeping. It was destiny. Since the day she stepped out of her car when he ran into her, she robbed his heart. Of course he never said anything because she was Max’ girlfriend. Now that they’ve broken up he wants to tell her he’s in love with her, crazy about her. Cece has his hand over hers and Amaya has that deer in the headlights look, but she can’t leap away.
Cece says she’s not saying anything. Amaya says she wasn’t expecting that. She’s grateful for everything he’s done for her including helping her end it with Max but had no idea he felt that way about her. She feels halagada (flattered-from halagar), but she still loves Max. Her love for Max is still alive. Ending a relationship does not mean the love has also ended. He thanks her for her sincerity. He begs her to give him a chance. Think about it. Then he grabs her hand and rubs his lips all over her fingers.
Juliana’s House
Flavia and Jorge arrive at Juli’s. Lucio is ecstatic to see Flavia. He’s chattering like a parrot, repeating mamá es buena ahora. Flavia asks to stay with Juli. She’s not sure how things are at the big house. Jorge greets Juli with a kiss, just as near her lips as he can get and gives her a package of freshly roasted coffee to perk her up.
Flavia learns what went on and expresses her opinion on what Lucio saw. It’s believable that what he saw was misinterpreted, but how her mother handled it was so wrong. Elo pipes up, yes, so wrong Lucio ended up in a psychiatric hospital. It should all have been resolved simply by taking Lucio to a doctor right away. Then he wouldn’t have suffered for so many years. Flavia wonders if they believe Luce’s version. Juli says she doesn’t believe her at all. Flavia says she knows her mother is no saint, but Lucio was very young. Elo doesn’t want to start a sister war, so she suggests they leave that theme alone and signals to Juli to keep quiet. (I don’t think Elo believes Luce either, for one minute.)
Mauro and Doctor Chat
Mauro visits the genuine lady doctor hypnotist. She concedes that Lucio could have misinterpreted seeing his mother in a sexual situation that wasn’t his father. Mauro has trouble believing it, but accepts her findings.
Amaya and Caro Chat
Amaya is on the phone with Caro. César declared his love—a love as false as he is. Although it was a little precipitated, things are turning out the way they wanted. Vale isn’t safe yet, but she knows Cesar won’t take rejection at all. He wants power over Max and the admiration of his father. Caro then tells her about Max and Consta going of to the ob doctor’s together.
César is Momentarily Happy
César is walking through the casino humming a little ditty about being the only one lucky at gambling and in love. Then he gets a text from Mommie Dearest about having returned to the house and everything is peachy keen with Lucio and there’s no longer a reason to torment him. In fact it would be better if he makes nice with Lucio. She loves him. Un beso. Cece thought-bubbles to himself that mama certainly has the ability to ruin his day.
Mariana Realizes What is Happening
Mari, still locked in the bedroom hears voices and recognizes Ulises’ voice and Cip’s conversation with him about taking Mariana. He learns she still doesn’t know she’s coming with him. Cip says it’ll have to be by force. She looks around to escape. She finally gets through a window. Cip has a rag and some chloroform to use. (OK, THIS GUY IS DEAD TO ME.) When the men see the room is empty and the window open, Uli flies outside to chase her. Uli gets her from behind and puts the rag around her mouth. (I was sure she was running away from the house, so how did he get beyond her without her seeing him. More tn magic.)
Amaya Chats With Amaya
Amaya is mulling over César’s offer. There are advantages to hooking up with César that outweigh the disadvantages. She’d be in the MM to keep an eye on Lucrecia and maneuver to get exculpatory evidence on her and she and Vale would be safe. But then there is Max. He would see this as a grand betrayal. He’d never understand what she did.
Amaya finds a box in her hotel room from César. It has a note with it promising her an unforgettable night. It’s a little blue dress. Amaya appears later in the casino, looking exceptionally stunning. César’s eyes are as wide as saucers. He approaches her in slow motion. He promises to make her an offer that could change her life.
Ulises Has Claimed His Prize
Uli has gotten Mariana to El Deseo, still knocked out. She’s in the bed in the “guest” room and Uli is lying next to her, caressing her cheek, her hair, her arm. Mariana begins to stir. When she realizes where she is, she jumps out of bed and heads for the door. It’s locked. She insists on being let out. He can’t keep her here against her will. Uli says yes he can, her father put her up as collateral in a bet and he lost. Mari can’t believe her ears. She’s not merchandise. No, Uli concedes, but she was the only thing left of value to him and he bet on her. He’s lost everything, his house, including his daughter. Uli “bought” her. She belongs to him now. She’s going to be his. He insists she will become his mujer (in the carnal sense). She declares she will only be Iván’s. That’s to be seen.
She fights him off, she knees him. She screams for help. He smugly tells her that won’t work because everyone has been told to stay away. He smugly tells her she’ll end up loving him. She screams, never, never. And she pummels him, but he grabs her. She will be his. To get what he wants, he’s going to rape her? He’s nothing but a coward. He’d do that by force just to fulfill a desire? Freeze frame on Mariana’s face.
Cippy Cup is beyond dead to me, and I'm glad I was never moved to sympathize with him. It can't get much lower than selling your daughter to surely get raped.
Tadeo is Lucas from Hasta Fin del Mundo, with less hair. He's as whiney here as he is there. He can have Ceci! Just get her away from Ivan, who was looking scrumptious in the fields.
1. Max feels so stupid for not noticing her interest in SOMEONE ELSE.
2. Meanwhile, in Las Vegas, CESAR and Amaya give a successful presentation.
3. She concedes that Lucio could have misinterpreted seeing his mother in a sexual situation that wasn’t WITH his father.
I will try not to whine too much but you all know me by now, I get infatuated with a story and want it to go my way and then waaah waaah waaah when it doesn't. Perdoname.
Cip is dead, buried, and burning in hell! Anita, I would also ask is chloroform a medicine cabinet staple or a tn staple? Never had the need to buy any so far in my life!
I am disturbed by Mariana's kidnapping and her "father" giving the kidnapper/rapist something to drug her with. Unbelieveable. I certainly hope he will NOT rape her. If he does y'all get ready for some major league whining and fussing!
I was also further disheartened by Amaya's "strategy." Remember way back guys I got to recap the episode where Max caught Amaya about to get in her car and pressed her for a "goodbye" kiss that left the papers she was carrying all over the ground and her knees like jelly. I suggested you all replay in and take a big inhale of the passion that radiated from the screen. Well, I don't know if y'all did it but I did and I truly felt a warm, lilting happiness at that scene!
Well. Yesterday I felt the opposite. A heavy, quaking anxiety and sadness. Dang! I don't know how far Amaya is willing to go but her saying "Cesar won't take rejection very well" was shocking. At this point she might as well go ahead and surrender herself sexually because Cesar would, as surely as Uli, force himself on her.
So Amaya couldn't get close to Lu as Max's fiance? She couldn't get access to the MM and everybody who lives there by being close to Max? How is Mauro, Elo, Juliana, and especially Flavia going to regard her with this cynical move? They will also see this as a MASSIVE betrayal. They all love Max and they will not trust her.
I understand the reasoning they are putting forth for this demonic alliance but they have not sold it and Amaya DOES look like an opportunist (which she is, but supposedly for justice), a schemer and of the same ilk as the satanic Lu and Cesar.
Lu was going to ally with her before, now she will be more cautious and sneakily hostile towards Amaya thus endangering her even more.
I know it's just a story but where I come from any woman "low enough" to go with her fiance's brother would be written off by that man and forever looked at askance by the rest of the family.
I hope Max can get some genuine enjoyment and warmth from the coming birth of his child and YES, from Connie. Maybe she will mature, too. Now. For Max and Connie to end up together, THAT would be creative.
Whine over. What do y'all think?
Wow, Ciprino. When he took out the chloroform and gave it Ulises I wanted to rip his spine off through his mouth. Did he get it from his secret rape stash??? Wtf.
I knew Mariana wash't going to take it lying down, a good hit to the crotch told Ulises to back off for the time being.
I might get tomatoes for this, but I am still firmly on team Amaya. While her decision with Cesar looks bad, how much worse would it look when the truth is revealed and she's married to Max.
If I were him immediately I would think she only married me to be close to my mother and that would spell all kinds of doom for our lovers. With Cesar, she gets everything she needs to bring down Lucrecia, with the added bonus of not giving three fluying f***s about what Cesar thinks.
THis way, when Max knows the truth, he also understands to a degree why she did all she did and may even come around to her way of thinking. As for what the Monstesinos would think in the meantime, Amaya could less. Revenge isn't pretty and she never expected it to be.
If Amaya and Max don't end up together, I'd be okay with it, mostly because I support Amaya's journey first and her love with second.
Either way, I would hate for Max to stay with Constanza. My god, she's a few loose screws from Cecy territory.
Oh, I know Max is going to understand in the end because that's how it's going to be written but I wished they'd found a way to have her stay with Max, uncover Lu's murderous ways and be faced with the challenge of helping the Montesinos see that she WASN'T with Max to bring down Lucrecia.
For me, the whole hook up with Cesar, no matter how righteous her anger and well-reasoned out, smells worse and worse the deeper we get into it and leaves Amaya with an indelible moral stain and insurmountable rift with Max!
Lila
I would rather see Max with Amaya than Consta. Even Nora would be a better choice than Consta. But after this caper, it will be extremely difficult to re-earn the closeness and trust Max and Amaya had before. Even more difficult for Max to be able to rekindle the passion if he's thinking Cesar was with her every time they make love.
Hadn't thought that Max isn't the only one who will think she betrayed him--his whole family will, except for Lucrecia. Luce wasn't going to be too happy either way. But in one sense she'll think this is a big betrayal of her, too. She didn't want Cesar with Amaya at all.
The BIG fly in the ointment will be if (or when) Amaya gets pregnant. Will it be Max's or Cesar's? We don't know what the deal is between Cece and Amaya, but I can't see her letting him anywhere near her, now or in the future. She told him last night she still loves Max, so maybe he won't force himself on her and will let her take her time.
That brings us to Mariana. Vivi, indeed, those "days away" are troubling. There's not much Ivan can do from where he is if he doesn't talk to her. He may call the finca, but Jorge, the next in line to watch out for her is gone. Hector is busy.
If no one hears from her, and she doesn't answer her cell, surely Chelo will call Mariana's house to find out how Cip is doing. Cip will certainly not let on she is not with him. I fear her absence will not come to light for awhile. Unfortunately, this gives Uli plenty of time to commit more acts of mental and physical violence.
Uli is NOT a gentleman. The way he manhandled her was disgusting. The whole thing is disgusting and unbelievable. What does the staff think he's up to, anyway? If he'd been charming from the git-go, maybe Mariana would have paid attention to him. Who knows. She was already pretty smitten with Ivan, even though she claimed to not want a boyfriend at all, based on her prior experience.
Uli is NOT a gentleman, but I wonder if he will stop short of rape and just try to wear her down. He talks tough, though.
Uli is NOT a gentleman, based also on the way he acted with Efrain, before the kidnapping. He sounded more like a minor mafia, gang or racketeer--gotta shoot kneecaps of guys who won't pay up or nobody will respect me or take me seriously.
Modern technology has facilitated and complicated communication in telenovelas. Nearly everyone in this story has a cell phone. If you can't reach them, leave a message and hope they call back. Lots of misunderstandings are possible and plausible.
Even more difficult for Max to be able to rekindle the passion if he's thinking Cesar was with her every time they make love.
I think even if Cesar doesn't have sex with her he will lie and say he did and I cringe at the ugly, intimate details, made up or otherwise he would gladly throw in Max's face to taunt him. Cesar is scum. Vicious scum. He's still got ricin and may imagine killing Max off after humiliating him with Amaya's help. How is she going to feel about THAT?
AND the Vale factor which I also mentioned before.
I hadn't even thought of pregnancy! All I can say is if she has sex with him (cause it won't be making love) I will be outraged and post an all caps rant. Just a warning!
No. Uli is NOT a gentleman. If he rapes Mariana I will be enraged all over again and post an all caps in bold rant! And it is all the more terrible because it will take a while for people to realize something is amiss with poor Mariana.
The only hope is that Chelo will hear some of the gossip in town that Effer was taking about. That's what I'm hoping will happen and our poor Mariana will be rescued before she angers Uli enough with her feisty defense that he hurts her!
Oh what havoc has ensued in the wake of poor Delores's murder!
Lila
I did laugh (desperately looking for something happy) at Ivan. When he and Cecy were having their picnic and she was rubbing his arm in a most Constanza-like way, he fixed it by picking up her hand and putting it on his LEG! Much better.

Cesar comes in a close third for me. He's already in league with Luce to poison Juliana. He's not a scientist or a doctor, so how does he know how much or little to use so it is not lethal.
He's also certainly planning someone's death with the ricin. Right now it would be Max or Mamma, as we've speculated earlier. But....could it be Mauro? That would get him to the top faster and earlier. Dear me erase that thought from my mind. I'm in love with the new, revised version of Tio Leoncio.
Awesome, detailed, and well written as always.
I was out and about all day; have not seen today's.
I'M ALREADY RANTING!
Disgusted with almost everything going on.
Don Mauro is trying to use reason.
I did like his talk with Lulu
in Cuernavaca. The way I took it, he really cannot stand her, but
her story was plausible, and he did not want to condemn her unjustly. He gave a well thought- out apology.
I did like the way Max was talking to Lucio. He almost learned some critical information.
Anita, you left out one ultra icky occurrence: Cesar rubbed his lips and also his grotesquely slimy moustache over THE WOMAN I NO LONGER RECOGNIZE'S fingers.
NO COMMENT on the other horrible
deeds. I am sorry the writers directors, producers, etc. chose this route.
Let's have some semblance of reality. If any one of us were to be in a situation similar, would we resort to the tactics of one AS?
REALLY?? More creative and clever writing needed. Higher standards should be set.
The TN is a terrific vehicle for helping people like me learn Spanish and for also learning more about the culture and economics of the country i.e. agave crops and tequila from Destilando Amor and coffee production from Quiero Amarte. But let's not get stuck
in old formulaic personal relationships. This TN has for me taken a definite downhill slide.
Still watching parts of this and reading comments altho the thrill has gone.
Thanks to all dedicated recappers and commenters.
All the best .......
Steve--You have forgotten or missed those episodes where Lucrecia and Cesar want Juliana out of the Nescafe business completely. She is a potential rival to Cesar for 1st Place in the heart and mind of Mauro. She is his first child with a woman he loved--Elena. They want her subdued and submissive and depressed. Thus Luce came up with the same stuff she used to keep Mauro depressed after the accident to Florencia and David. They've sprayed in all over her new car--my, my, you have missed quite a few episodes. This has been going on for some time and Cesar keeps reporting the results to Luce. Not too long ago we saw him applying another dose.
Well folks, I'll be virually incommunicado for the next 10 days or so. Have fun. I'll have to catch up when catch can. I will be sure to read Lila's recap before I leave tomorrow. Chau a todos.
Night has fallen and we begin at Uli’s hell hole where he is holding Mariana. She is defiant and unbelieving as Uli tells her he won her in a poker game, fair and square. Mariana’s eyes are blazing and she fires back that this is against the law and Cip has no authority over her, she is not a minor! Uli answers coolly that she could consider her response: Cip is old and jail would be a hell for him. Mariana gives an answer that warms our hearts: If he ends up in jail because of his stupidity, then that’s HIS problem!
Outside the MM Max gets a gushing text from Connie that this has been a day she will never forget and seeing their baby made her feel like the luckiest woman alive. Max answers back that he promised her he would be there for her for all matters related to the baby. She thanks Max. Mauro joins him and Max shows him the video of the ultrasound. Mauro thinks it is amazing and tells Max that however a baby comes into the world, it is a blessing. Max is excited over the prospect of being a father, Mauro is excited as well and moved and tells Max he will be a wonderful father! The men share a warm embrace. Mauro goes back into MM, Max is going to go over to Juliana’s to talk to her and Jorge.
Back to El D which should be called “El Despreciable” instead of El Deseo where Uli makes the hypocritical declaration that he has many defects but he’s not a rapist. He likes the woman in his bed to give herself to him and to participate. If not, she should fake it and make him believe it. If she changes her attitude, she can be treated like a Queen, if not, she will be his prisoner.
Cut to the disgusting Cip tossing in bed pissing and moaning that he had no choice. The disembodied voice of Delores scolds and reprimands him, seeming to emanate from her portrait at his bedside. He protests that Mariana is “born of sin” and spirit Delores protests that Mariana is THEIR daughter and she will NEVER forgive him.
Inside MM there is a brief spar between the loving – NOT – sisters as Lu taunts Elo that the revelation of Lucio’s secret did not break up her marriage. Elo answers that her concern is that Lucio get better and accuses Lu of being egocentric. Lu thinks she’s lucky. Elo answers that maybe she is but that will soon be cut short by Divine Justice. Lu laughs.
Ah, here’s a scene we need. A sultry saxophone plays as we look underneath Juliana’s shapely leg through to the doorway of her bedroom where a flustered Jorge watches, transfixed as she applies lotion. She sees him and he jumps and begs her pardon and hurriedly leaves. She calls him back, not alarmed or annoyed. He nervously enters the room and she excuses herself calling that she needs to go put on pants. Our normally cool, calm and collected Jorge is totally rattled. Funny!
The Big Nescafe Anniversary Bash (NAB) is about to begin at the Montesino Mansion. Jose’s crooked friends have arrived. Genoveva gives them directions about the sound set up. One of her directives is that the music not be too loud to disturb the guests. She dismisses them, they walk away salivating over the prospects of the day: they’re nervous but excited that they’re going to “get paid!”
Inside MM Mauro, Lu, and Lucio are at the breakfast table. Max and Flavia enter the bright sunny dining room. Lucio runs to Flavia and greets her with a big hug. She even kisses Lu. Flavia didn’t know how her mom would receive her. Lu says there’s no problem with her. Flavia admits Lu was right and what Lu did was to protect her. Flavia thanks her. Lu smiles with satisfaction. Lu says she knows her methods are unconventional and sometimes she’s even wrong but she always acts for her children’s good. Lu asks for a hug from Flavia who complies but it is cold. Flavia then nearly runs to Mauro as if his embrace will drive away the chill of Lucrecia’s arms.
Over at Juliana’s Jorge watches as she talks to Whor about Vale attending the NAB. Vale is very welcome and he agrees to bring her. Jorge has a slight edge in his voice as he tells Juliana it seems her friendship with Whor not only continues but is growing. Well, she’s made it clear she is not interested in him in any way and asks why it bothers him so much. At first Jorge denies it but then says yes it bothers him because he doesn’t trust Whor. Juliana puts her head on his shoulder , looks up into his eyes and says playfully that because he is her only friend and he doesn’t want her to have other friends, is he is jealous? He says yes he is jealous and. . . Jorge and Juliana’s faces are in kissing distance when Alan pops in and interrupts with some nonsense about some clothing. Juliana hops up and goes to see what he wants. Alan lingers for a moment, makes eye contact with Jorge and gives him the “ I’m keeping an eye on you” sign, a mischievous smile playing across his face. Alone with the warm spot on the couch where Juliana just sat, Jorge gives a big sigh of frustration!
Back at El D Mariana is pacing and praying. Uli is about to enter the room with a tray of food. She ambushes him with a sculpture of some sort, the food goes flying. Well, no more of whatever that was for Mariana! She doesn’t care; she doesn’t want anything that comes from him anyway! Uli leaves and Mariana now prays to Delores to help her and cries that she wants to be with Ivan.
Back at the NAB Jose’s crooked friends load the speakers with weapons. Elo, Alan, Lucio, Flavia, Juliana, Max and Jorge come outside and head to their seats in the gaily decorated red and white themed back yard filled with tables covered by canopies. Everybody is spiffed up, gents in suits, ladies in afternoon-chic dresses. Jorge and Max hang back a little and Max notes Jorge seems worried. Jorge says he is, for Juliana. Max assures him she is taking the medication the doctor prescribed and she’ll be fine. Well, it’s not that. He reminds Max of the conversation when Max said he would like for Jorge to be his brother in law. . .
Ah, the NAB is on the lips of Chelo and Hector at El P as well when Hortensia runs up excitedly asking where Mariana is. Hector says Mariana is at her house taking care of Cip’s cut hand. Thankfully Hortensia spills the whole story of Cippy Cup “losing” Mariana in a bet with Uli. Hector calls Mariana’s cell phone and gets voice mail immediately. He then calls Cip. After asking after Cip’s hand he asks to speak to Mariana. Cip says she doesn’t live there anymore. Hector asks where she is. Cip responds angrily it’s none of Hector’s beeswax and to leave him alone and stop meddling and hangs up on Hector. In another move we’re grateful for Hector concludes the rumors must be true. Heriberto dashes off to talk to a trusted friend of his that works at El D to see what he can find out!
Jorge continues to hem and haw a bit but finally tells Max he is in love with Juliana. Max plays Jorge by looking stern for a good while but finally breaks out in a big smile. Nothing would make Max happier! What about Max’s warning him to stay away from Flavia? Max answers that Flavia is young and a bit unstable. Juliana is a woman in every sense of the word. Max would love it. They hug. I hope she likes me Jorge says nervously. I don’t know, she doesn’t like ugly guys, Max quips. Oh, you’re a funny guy! exclaims Jorge, his smile still shaky. Well Max is trying to laugh to keep from crying, Amaya has him going crazy. Jorge says well look who’s coming. It’s Connie. Max tell her she’s guapa, she says she fixed herself up for the occasion and for him. Max’s smile seems forced and kinda like “why are you going there?”
Lu and Mauro welcome guests. Manuel arrives with Jose who sees Connie greet Manuel as “Papa”. Manuel introduces Jose to Mauro, Max and Lu who makes a crack about Geno and Manuel’s relationship. Mauro tries to reprimand her, she blows it off.
Meanwhile at the WUN Finca Cecy is putting the screws to Ivan. He won’t give his answer as to whether he’ll accept her offer to be the General Administrator of her finca until he talks to Mariana. He appreciates her offer but it would affect her life, too and it’s a decision the couple will make together. Cecy looks like she tastes something nasty.
Jose wants a tour of the MM. His two thieving accomplices exchange greedy glances as Jose and Manuel walk toward the house. Inside Jose admires the bright, expansive rooms: he wants to have one like it one day. Manuel assures him if he applies himself and works hard, he most certainly can. Mauro joins the two, tells Jose he is welcome. Jose leaves to go to the bathroom. Mauro and Manuel discuss Lu’s indiscretion. Manuel says not to worry; he’s used to Lu’s shenanigans and knows that Lu can’t stand him and Geno. Nevertheless Mauro apologizes. Sometimes he thinks if it weren’t for the kids he doesn’t know what would happen to him. Manuel says he is comparing Lu with Florencia. Mauro denies it. This is beyond Florencia.
Heriberto meets in the coffee fields of El D with his friend, a pretty girl in a brightly colored dress. She tells him strange things are happening: the house is under guard, someone is in a locked room with bars on the window, nobody is allowed to enter; she thinks it is Mariana because she heard a woman’s screams. She will verify and get back with him.
We return to MM: Mauro reminds Manuel of their talk last night about what Lucio revealed under hypnosis, the Omar thing. He feels something broke inside him and he doesn’t think it can be mended. I think Mauro is expressing deep doubts about the whole event and how Lu chose to handle it. Manuel asserts it’s time for Mauro to make a decision. . . .leave her! Mauro says now is not the time, Lucio will think it happened because he revealed the secret. Lucio is a person with different capacities but he is happy. He needs peace now. They walk out together towards the festivities outside; Jose is still in the house.
Everybody is seated; Whor and Vale arrive and greet everyone at the Montesino table. Alan invites Vale to come sit by him. Vale greets Max with a kiss and tells him she wants them to be friends. Nothing would make Max happier! They seal it with a hug. She sits next to Alan. Lucio invites Whor to sit down. Everyone exchanges awkward glances.
Back at El P Heriberto arrives and tells Hector that Uli has someone locked up in a room but he doesn’t know if it’s Mariana. His friend is going to verify and let him know. Hector exclaims it’s got to be her! Hector reaches Ivan by phone. Buff and sweating, working alongside the others workers Ivan answers and shouts when he hears that Uli has Mariana locked up in his finca! Later we see him, shirt back on stomping out of the fields with annoying Cecy who has insisted on taking him. We all know she wants to size up her competition.
The NAB is about to begin and we see Lu greet Cesar with a big smile. He asks for his Papa. Lu tries to show him his seat. Cesar insists on seeing Mauro first. A few paces away Geno asks Manuel where Jose is. She saw him enter the house but not come out. Manuel goes to get him. Mauro has now come up to join Lu and Cesar. Mauro greets him warmly, and then walks away. Cesar leads Lu away by the hand.
Cesar tells Lu he has a surprise, a very special surprise. Mauro gathers the family together and goes over the opening ceremony. Max, Lucio, Flavia, Juliana, Cesar and Lu. Everyone’s here. Cesar says no, everyone is here except Amaya. Mauro says yes, Amaya and Caro will present the campaign. No, she not only is going to present the campaign Papa. Cesar smiles and walks away and goes to retrieve Amaya. Eerie music plays as we see Amaya take Cesar’s arm. She has cut and lightened her hair and she has an aloof look of self-assurance as she approaches the group, almost seeming to float on air.
Cesar: Amaya has come, but as my WIFE.
Everybody’s mouths drop open and Max looks like he is going to stroke out right on the spot.
Cesar: She is now Amaya Serrano de Montesinos.
Mauro, Lu, everybody is shocked. Amaya coolly regards the gathering as if they were strangers. She subtly raises one eyebrow.
Mariana hears a knock on the door! Who’s there? Mariana calls. I’m here to help. I’m Sonia, a friend of Heriberto who works at El P. He sent me to verify that you are here. Mariana: He has me held prisoner, I was brought here by force. My father lost a bet and Uli has me sequestered here. Sonia asks her to have patience and takes off right away. Mariana runs to the window to look out.
Max: What do you mean your wife? What are you talking about?
Cesar: My wife. Yesterday in Las Vegas we married. He holds up her hand and shows the ring.
Lu now looks like she’s about to pass a cow. Amaya looks smug and silent.
Max: You left me for my brother and didn’t have the decency to tell me? Amaya asks coldly what is there to say, it’s evident. Cesar points at Max and spits don’t you dare question the decision of my wife! Max charges Cesar! Mauro stops him.
Cesar continues: That’s love, we’re in love. I asked her to be my wife and she accepted because we’re in love.
Max: I don’t know who’s worse, you or her!
Cesar: I’m better than you, Max, that’s why she left you for me. She’s with me, how curious.
Max to Amaya: I could never imagine you would do something like this to me, you are worthless!
Amaya: You fell in love with me while you were engaged to Constanza. . .
Max: That’s not the same, I never lied to you! You and I were going to be married!
Mauro’s faced is stony, shocked. Juliana and Flavia turn on her and tell her she is miserable. Cesar is in his cynical glory: All of you calm down and breathe. Don’t judge me. I am free to marry whatever woman pleases me. Amaya is with me of her own free will, we love each other. Such is life, Max.
Who is that? Asks Elo standing with Connie and Whor. Elo goes to see what’s happening. Whor introduces himself to Connie. She confirms that he is Amaya’s ex. I’m the woman that had your ex-wife not intervened, would have been his wife. Whor’s answer to Connie: “El hubiera no existe.” (What does he mean here: “I would have been” or “it might have been” does not exist?)
Jorge is shaking his head. Genoveva talks to Caro wondering what is happening. Did they change the program, looks like they’re fighting! Caro says I think what is happening has nothing to do with the program.
Cesar: Max, people are looking. Accept that you are a loser, Amaya preferred me. Mauro, Flavia, Juliana and Mauro look on in horror, Max in shock. Max tells Mauro he knows the party is very important but he’s out of there. He leaves and Juliana follows him. Flavia tells Amaya “You’re disgusting.” Cesar tells Amaya not to pay attention to what she says. Mauro tells Cesar they will talk later. Elo comes up with mouth and eyes like saucers. Lucio is stuttering says Max is angry. Flavia, her voice dripping with contempt, tells Lucio that Cesar has married Amaya.
We catch up with Manuel looking for Jose in the MM. Manuel enters the house as Jose quickly closes a safe and picks up a book as a pretext as Manuel enters the room. Manuel tells him to come on, the event is starting. They leave. As Manuel and Jose come through the door that leads from the private interior of the house Max runs past. Manuel calls him; Max keeps going followed by Juliana who tells Manuel she will explain later. Manuel and Jose agree that Max was angry. Max goes into his room, breaks a vase, kicks the bed. Infeliz! He shouts! He married the woman that I loved. Juli says she knew he was capable of a lot of things but she never expected this. Max agonizes aloud, “And that she has the capacity to be with him! You don’t know how it hurts that she is the wife of my own brother! Leave me alone. I need to be alone. Go to Mauro, it’s an important day and you need to be with him. “ Juliana reluctantly leaves. Max breaks another sculpture with a shout before sitting heavily on his bed. His beautiful face contorts as he breaks down and cries.
She could have taken her kid and moved away after leaving what ever is in that letter with the police and let the Montesinos sort out the wreckage that Lucrecia created. She did NOT have to leave the carnage that this game of vengeance has created.
This turn of events is good for me. I was obsessing over this story. I want to see how it turns out but I am so over it.
I'm going to bed.
Amaya's reveal as Cesar's wife was definitely huge but thank god everyone knows Mariana is being held captive and coming to her aid. So happy they aren't dragging that one out.
As many of you predicted, the Montesinos have already turned on Amaya but hey, when you plot revenge, it's definitely not to make friends….
Speaking of friends…Jose, with friends like those you REALLY don't need any enemies. You're digging a big old hole all by yourself.
Horacio and Constanza's little spat was hilarious…here are we both, the ex lovers who have nothing else to do but meddle in our exes lives.
Jorge and Max as always were great. Now that you have his blessing Jorge, I think it's time to confess your love.
Can't be said enough, since Dolores' death, this novela has taken off like a freight train in the best way.
Is she going to float through all of her life like this, elevated on a pedestal of air above the mere mortals that surround her because she is the wife of the High and Mighty Cesar Montesinos?
I guess she's going to move into the MM, thank goodness Val is going to America or does Whor have a voice in the matter and will refuse?
Max had better leave MM now that Amaya is moving in.
Superalfie and all what do you think of the marriage?
NOBODY trusts her, EVERYBODY despises her. I cannot imagine the scene at the dining table now! Flavia and Lucio (Amaya es mala!) will also probably want to flee to Juliana's!
I don't know, y'all. I'm going to try to stay within the story with my comments and not continually talk about how it coulda shoulda been written. I'm not a writer or producer and the story is what it is.
Having said that I felt soooooo bad for Max. I cannot imagine anything that she could have done by his side being as painful as that very public humiliation and on the day of the NAB no less! I don't think it could have been worse if she had lured him to Cesar's bedroom for him to see her and Cesar openly copulating before his very eyes. Indeed, her act tells the whole family "**CK YOU!"
Mauro must be deeply disappointed and confused! He must feel like he has brought a viper into their home who is now attacking them with a venomous strike! Amaya had better work her "magic" such that Lu and Cesar tell on themselves because who would believe anything she says after this shocking caper.
Yes, I want to see how this shakes out: how Lu is unmasked and how Max, and we, are supposed to believe Amaya is worth reuniting with.
Damn, Amaya! Girl believes in a scorched earth policy. Wow! Can't wait to see how she maneuvers throughout the hostile territory she has created for herself. Poor, poor Max.
I was happy to see that Mariana's friends are indeed looking out for her, even Hector. I hope Ivan beats the snot out of Uli.
How incompetent is she ? Max is pissed off now & Cesar is loving every minute of it!
The rapid discovery of Mariana's kidnapping was the best! Mariana does indeed have friends that are like family and a man who truly loves her!
Val's maturity and desire to remain friends with Max.
Flavia's maturity in admitting her mother was right and apologizing. A humbling moment for her. Like how she ran like a little girl to daddy's arms after mommy's chilly embrace.
Loved those funny scenes of Jorge catching a glimpse of Juliana's charms; Alan's teasing threat to watch him and Jorge's school boy nervousness while professing his love for Juliana. I'm going to cling to this romance for dear novela life cause ain't no love in the Amaya/Max/Cesar triangle!
Scorched earth? Yes, you said it, Girl! I think we all want to see how see works this!
I bet Max wishes he'd let that car sink to the bottom of the river now!
I don't know but I feel like we're missing something regarding the marriage, a scene in Las Vegas that was edited out or hasn't been revealed. Last time we saw Cesar and Amaya they were going out on a night on the town in Vegas and then they disappeared until the party. We definitely need more info to see how the Amaya even happened.
I, like many of you, would've liked to see Amaya and Max but, while that would've worked in Amor Bravio where the main villains were not the protagonists' family members, it doesn't work here because Lucrecia is Max's mother. The horrible villains here are the protagonist's direction family…
I just don't see this going any other way. It was either Amaya alone (but without direct access to Lucrecia in her own home) or Amaya with Cesar because marrying Max to get revenge would look horrible and he'd hate her even more. Now he thinks she's a "woman of loose morals," in the other route he'd think she used him and put his mother in jail.
I don't know, the Max and Amaya unite to take down his mother seems even more farfetched to me.
Side-note: I still don't want Constanza with Max. They should just create someone new because she should not be an option either.
The only thing I remember is that Cesar and Amaya were at the casino, she had come down in the dress he bought her and he said he had a proposal to make to her that would change her whole life. Well, we know what that proposal was. The whole thing is jarring though because the last internal thoughts we heard from Amaya is that things were moving too fast. She was also still acting uncomfortable at Cesar's advances.
I am thinking that Amaya went along with Cesar's plan to marry him on the condition that they NOT consummate the marriage. Cesar really only wanted her to humiliate Max. This way Cesar gets what he wants and she gets into the evil inner circle of the Montesinos and remains "faithful" to Max. I still don't like it but this is the only way I can see Max, and the viewers accepting a reunion of Max and Amaya at the end of the story. They've made such a big deal of portraying Cesar as having a dark and bizarre sexual appetite which requires NO affection AND he refuses to share his bed with anyone, I think my scenario is plausible. Whether they move into MM or elsewhere, I don't think they will share a bed.
You know what Alfie? This crime and the criminal are over the top and the solution has to be as well. It is unlike anything I have ever seen in tv in ANY language so I'm going to try to just see how this is going to evolve. I know Amaya has a goal in mind: exposing and bringing Lu to justice and avenging the death of her family and stopping Lu's murderous spree but she's making the steps up as she goes and she has no idea how evil Cesar is. He hasn't murdered yet but he admires Lu's ability to do so coldly in pursuit of her objectives. He would murder Max, his own mother and Amaya herself if he needed to.
The upcoming episodes should be exciting whether we like Amaya's strategy or not. And remember, there are lots of interesting and gripping side stories going on as well!
Wow, Lila, you were on fire last night. I was on the edge of my seat twice--once watching and once reading.
I think Amaya's new "luke" is meant to be off-putting. Cesar is a snake. AMAYA IS DEAD TO ME FOR THE NEXT 40 EPISODES, AT LEAST. No amount of justification or explanation will ever (or should ever) heal Max's broken heart.
The Happiest person on earth witnessing this family feud is Constanza. She's going to "move right in" on Max. He's vulnerable, angry, sad and has a real baby on the way.
I'll be rooting for Jorge/Juliana and Ivan/Mariana and hope the writers aren't going to snowball us again. It's the least they can do to keep my interest. I will watch Amaya's form of "justice" with the same aloofness she showed walking in with Cesar.
Mauro is going to be the second one hurt and disillusioned by Amaya. He really had become to feel like she was another daughter.
Lila--The Whor used El hubiera as a noun, so you got it right. It would translate for us as The what ifs don't exists.
I'll be enjoying some snowless days in South Texas. I may get some internet, but don't know about the time.
Can we talk for a second about how good Amaya looked though? I loved her new haircut, so refined and ready for vengeance.
She also has that strut down to a T.
Have a good time, Anita! Are you going to be able to post the new header on Monday morning?
Enjoy!
Super, yes Amaya looked "professional" and more suited to be the bitch she will have to be as Cesar's wife. I liked her softer look better. The change in her demeanor was surreal, I actually felt a reality shift as I looked at her and felt, as the Montesinos must have, that she must be possessed!
Let's see how she struts her stuff today, Superalfie. Lordy!
Ok, time to fly.
Just please, Show, keep doing everything differently so that Max doesn't marry Constanza! Hopefully he learned his lesson after jumping into a marriage with her last time.
Kelly
But the bigger anvil should be reserved for Cipriano. Uli isn't a rapist (yet), just a kidnapper. That puts him above Cip, who had no idea what he was getting Mariana into. Cip needs to go. Painfully.
Kelly
No wonder why the Montesinos family HATES her right now!
Anywho, yah, It sounds like Amaya means all those nasty things she's saying to Max! That Cesar had the character he lacked, that Cesar has the power (and essentially balls) she needs to accomplish her objectives.
And sorry Amaya, your shock at Vale's reaction and surprise that "it would be this bad" when you come back from a conference having left totally in love with Max and return on the arm of Cesar with ring and declare you got married in Vegas. . .what. the. hell. else. could. you. EXPECT!
She SO looks like a villian right now that I have to remind myself of all the people Lu killed. Lu is totally selling her shock and disdain of Amaya and ironically this unites her with Max and the rest of the Montesinos thus covering her with the same blanket of empathy as the rest. And that's not right! Again, JMO!
Amaya, on the other hand, having allied herself with Cesar in the most hostile, humiliating and ball-busting way is clearly painted in the dark shades of the villain right along with Cesar. Her thick, harsh makeup makes her look 10 years older and more evil even in the glare of the bright sunlight in the closing scene of yesterday's show.
They're going to have to resurrect the flashbacks to keep us focused on why we hate Lucrecia because this cold, hard, vengeful Amaya who has nearly destroyed Max is a more clear and present villain in my eyes right now.
Thanks for your dedication to pleasing viewers.
My heart is heavy.
As I wrote a few days ago, choosing a course of action that you know will totally eviscerate a loved one, is absolutely wrong.
THAT WOMAN (Esa Mujer) from now on to me, has lost all reason.
Her child has been in therapy.
What next for her?
At this point Esa Mujer needs to concentrate on the living. She is destroying all in her wake.
I agree, Floridia. It almost feels like another team of writers took over the craft the rest of the story. For a brief moment when Amaya saw the shock and dismay on Vale's face there was a glimpse of the old Amaya, a very fleeting glimpse. It's a sad day when you are glad that Vale is with Horacio! "They've" got a tough sell job ahead of them with this as does Amaya. Will "they" just make it so with her and Max at the end, not caring whether we believe it or not? We shall see.
That brief glimpse was definitely a tinge of regret but, Amaya, you can't drop the ball once the game has started…
Constanza happiness was disgusting as well. Sorry, Cons, but building your happiness on the happiness of others doesn't guarantee yours. Max is still not paying attention. Tough luck.
Poor Mariana, her situation goes from back to worse. Even though she sound let Cipriano rot, the fact she probably won't is what makes her who she is. Wonder where this is going when Ivan gets there.
As for Amaya's revenge (always a hot topic), there are definitely two Amayas battling for control and it won't be as easy as it was in Vegas, with no one she cared for around her. At least she has Caro for the time being.
Valeria, in my eyes, has always been a little bratty, so her tantrums don't even phase me and even evil Amaya is better than Horacio, no matter what she's doing.
You are so right about that! It's not as easy in real life as it is in her fevered fantasies of revenge.
Yesterday I speculated that maybe Amaya cut a deal with Cesar that they NOT consumate the marriage as a condition for her going along with it. At the NAB he made a crack to Lu about grandchildren. Cesar would do that just to get Lu's hackles up so I'm going to hang on to my theory. BUT if there is evidence that she is FULLY Cesar's wife then I shall have to resort to calling her Esa Mujer, like Floridia!
I definitely thing that was the deal or it will come up when they're getting ready for bed but I doubt she would go that far.
She has always been visibly repulsed by Cesar, even now that they're married. My brother saw a glimpse of it yesterday when he kissed her at the party and his comment was, "she doesn't love that guy, right? She looks like she's going to throw up."
Now, I would've put it past Cesar to try something, even by force. He's always been into the sexual violence during his sexcapades when he'd tie and mistreat the girl he was with. So, I shutter to think if Amaya's resistance would just be a bigger turn on.
*gulp*
Yeah, I figured that Val wouldn't react well, and I think her reaction is the only one that would really put a chink in Amaya's vengeance armor. How does she intend to explain this all to Val?
Thanks for your kind words.
I agree with your theory about
a deal made between Esa Mujer
and Cesar re SEX; but I'M sure he figures it is only a matter of time. He'll take what he can get for now, and if necessary escalate
the advantage when he sees fit.
Remember how Max was jealous when Cesar would plant little disgusting kisses on Amaya's cheek
or put forth lingering embraces?
He is a Master of violating ones space.
How far we have fallen from the heavenly rooftop evening with Armando Manzanero crooning, "Quiero Amarte" to the spellbound lovers. Instead we are living in an Infierno that knows no limits with regard to suffering and destruction.
Barely hanging in there ....
Mariana unfortunately is still in Ulises' grasp. We'll see how that goes today.
It was even more disheartening because Val had gone up to Max two episodes back and said she wanted to be friends again and gave him a hug and kiss.
Val must think the internado is definitely a better idea at the moment.
How far we have fallen from the heavenly rooftop evening with Armando Manzanero crooning, "Quiero Amarte" to the spellbound lovers. Instead we are living in an Infierno that knows no limits with regard to suffering and destruction.
So true, my friend, so true. Have you all noticed how, instead of the familiar guitar accompanying those wonderful singers the QA theme is rendered in an eerie, discordant kind of way that is kind of nightmarish but so fitting for what's happened!? Gives me the shivers!
Floridia, I understand about barely hanging on. I was watching a novela this summer and it was really good but the body count started going up. Well, we had a big family reunion coming up that was essentially going to last all summer so I got a chance to bow out without blaming it on the novela.
I watch these things cause I love Spanish, languages period and I'm always trying to tune my ear AND there are some great stories told and WONderful company in the Caray Nation. I also do it as an excape from stress but when these little worlds become stressful, too, well, it can be too much!
Oh, it's only a movie/story/tv show, whatever. Look folks, if these things didn't grab our attention and move us on all kinds of mental and emotional levels they would NOT be a vehicle for all the. . .stuff they're hawking everyday on commercial tv stations. Oh yeah, these things are powerful. I don't know if the days of lighter fare are gone: some hot romance, a few family and financial problems, generational, cultural and class differences, you know, that sort of thing but when some of my personal sore spots are hit and I'm either grimmacing or cussing at the tv, my stomach in knots and unable to sleep. . .well, then I think it's time to back awaaaay from the show.
We are all welcome here whether we only read the recaps and comments, lurk or pop in infrequently. I enjoy this blog tremendously! I hope you stay but TOTALLY understand if its too much and I know you don't need my understanding: Just sounds like we share the same level of shock and disappointment!
Oh well, almost time for another riveting capitulo!
Boarding school. Sorry!
Your post brought something to mind:
Anyone planning on watching La Sombra del Pasado, fair warning, they are following El Manatial closely and that novela (while a gem to anyone lucky enough to see it) is ROUGH.
It does not pull punches and the situations that they present are not easy. Very early on a traumatizing event happens that turns everything around and I have yet to forget the scene.
Not about Quiero Amarte but if violence and harsh situations are not anyone's cup of tea LSDP will be hard to stomach.
I have often needed to stop watching a tn for a little while and just stick to reading the recaps and comments. Usually, when children are being verbally, physically or mentally abused. Nothing wrong with that. I couldn't watch the first part of La Malquerida because I couldn't bear to watch 13 year old Ale in Danilo's clutches. Or the beginning of En Nombre del Amor when Tia Carlota was being so horrible to little Romina. Or when little Renata was being tortured by Pepa/Fina in Cuando Me Enamoro. We all have our triggers. But I enjoyed reading the recaps and comments for both shows during those times.
I just watched the parts I missed! Oh my gosh! Poor Lucio thinks he's to blame for Max and Amaya breaking up and thus Vale's heartbreak! Vale has been a brat but I still feel sorry for her! I DON'T feel sorry for Amaya and . . .*gasp!* . .actually empathized with Horacio!!! OMG! And poor Max went back and reviewed all those truly innocent encounters between Amaya and Cesar and concludes that they've been going together all along! Funny that Max was willing to stand shoulder to shoulder and fight to rebuild Amaya's honor and she's managed to send it down the bowl with one flush!
*Gulp!* for Sombra! I'm on the recap team! I was afraid when I read the synopsis that it might be rough. Oh, don't say anymore, even if it's bad I like an element of surprise. Wow. So I go from recapping La (Maldita) Gata to a Dark Shadow, hunh! Yikes!
1) Protecting Val (and Mariana and Caro- i.e. her family) from harm from Lu.
2) Protecting Max from harm.
3) Tearing Lu (and Cesar) down and exposing her crimes.
4) Retaining Val's affection/not hurting Val's feelings.
5) Protecting herself from harm.
6) Retaining Max's affection/not hurting Max's feelings.
7) Retaining Mauro's affection/not hurting Mauro's feelings.
Somewhere far down the line is: Protecting her reputation.
I will stay, but whenever Uli and Cip are in view and now the new crop from WUN, I'll happily skip those parts.
I watch to test my Spanish and to learn new words, (I keep a notebook for new vocab., and of course if there are handsome guys like Max or intriguing plots, that all helps.
But I will not torture myself with the likes of the above. The first two are especially beyond the pale,
and I'm not interested in how the cousin plans to snare Iván.
I would like to see a happy couple resolve their horrendous problems together, having trust in one another...not these agonizing separations, accusations, suspicions, etc. etc.
We saw that for awhile in Corazon
Valiente, but then it went completely off the rails so that I could not watch anymore.
I too enjoy the blog and am impressed with the intelligence of the bloggers and the writing offered. Please excuse my stereotypical mind, but when I started watching these TN's not knowing about Caray, I assumed
that everyone, except me, who was watching was an uneducated Latina ama de casa lounging around in a house coat or Mu Mu. How wrong I was!
Learning Spanish has given me new life. I am an Irish Catholic from Boston who never studied Spanish or knew any Hispanics. I've been watching TNs for about nine years; I can't believe how the time has flown.
I mentioned on a blog some time ago that I joined a book club entitled Conversando Sobre Los Libros about 3.5 years ago. We read a book in Spanish each month.
Outside of the club, we take turns visiting other's houses on a purely social basis. I had a lovely party here 2 weeks ago.
Three people were from Mexico, one from Cuba, one from Argentina, one from Ecuador, and two from Columbia. So, my Spanish is improving little by little, and then of course, I have my songs sung by José José with complete clarity that I listen to each day. I have learned many idioms from him along with perfect grammar. My new friends, however,
do NOT watch novelas.
To give the TN's credit, they teach me pronunciation, they use proper grammar, and I have learned many useful expressions in addition to "Que haces aqui?" and "Dejame en Paz."
Thanks for encouraging me and for being sympathetic to my disillusionment.
All the best ....
I would like to see a happy couple resolve their horrendous problems together, having trust in one another...not these agonizing separations, accusations, suspicions, etc. etc.
Alas, Floridia, I think such stories are "so yesterday"! They seem to love shocking sexual triangles and liaisons, increasingly controversial ethical dilemmas, and I sense an increasing appetite for torture, murder and child abuse. Sign of the times or media getting more outrageous to attract viewers? I don't know.
And as for your friends, if they think all novelas are like La Gata, I could see why they snootily avoid them!
And back to the physical, even though she won't be directly responsible, she has married a man who might think humiliating Max by gaining the prize of Amaya and the ZE isn't enough and the final solution is to use ricin on Max and then. . . .
Vivi has a good list there. I think Amaya wanted to protect Max from knowing about his horrible mother just yet, and probably to keep him from spilling her accusations to Lu and ruining the venganza plan. (see how he protected her when she revealed the "rape"). He's not ready to hear what Lu is really like, and is too direct with his family to be able to keep such a secret. Now if only he could be that direct with Constanza. Sal got lucky.
Kelly
ooh! Single word verification. Good, even though I still can't read it.
Lila- Actually, Amaya kicking Max to the curb probably actually saved him from being bumped off by Cesar, who was determined to have her. He for sure wanted to get rid of Max before. Now, he probably wants to keep him around to make him suffer.
And you're a great defender of Amaya, Kelly! I'm still feeling like she is too extreme. Again, they need to do some flashbacks and remind us as to why we hate Lucrecia. It's been a while since she plunged a jagged piece of glass into poor, stunned Delores. I know what Lu has done is the ultimate evil but the icy, strutting Amaya spitting at Max that she chose Cesar because he's got the CHARACTER and POWER Max lacks and, well, you know the rest. . .need to find an abbreviation for what Cesar and Amaya did at the NAB*. . .anyway she still feels like a villian to me!
*WB - Wedding Bomb? No, already used that for when Connie stood Max up at the altar.
BWB - Betrayed you with your Brother?
BBB - (I chose the) Brother with the Bigger Balls?
Ah, oh well. I tried.
Woah!! Todays episode was chuck full of delicious drama.
I'll wait till the recap is up to discuss.
My group is at the library, and there are only 8 - 10 people.
Right now, I am the only non-Hipanic. Believe me, I was panicked about speaking in front of them, but I worked out a strategy. Everyone likes to talk at these get-togethers, so one person doesn't have time to say much. I usually prepare something about the book on a section of the book that I think others won't talk about. Sometimes, I practice it ahead of time. Sometimes, I might even read it aloud. Last time, a Colombian person prepared an entire page and read it to everyone because he didn't want to stray off topic. I was surprised, but no one thought a thing of it. He certainly knows the language.
Often, I don't have time to read the entire book, but I zero in on some aspect of it. I still have a long way to go, but I have reached a good turning point. You also hear people talking and get more attuned to that aspect. People are kind and encouraging when you want to learn their language. Go For It. You will be delighted that you did.
I just felt so bad for her even with the scary b#@*!h makeup her eyes looked so sad.
No sympathy for Cip though I hope Delores does haunt him for the rest of his miserable life up until his slow and painful death
Her breakdown in the bathroom and all that followed was especially painful to watch. No one is having fun at all.
Cripriano deserves a special circle of hell. Ulises is disgusting but to do that and provide the supplies for kidnapping your own daughter is the most vile lowest thing someone can do.
**********
No sympathy for Amaya! Not now at least. Not saying never. Just. ain't. feeling it!
From comments you have made, I know that you are a lot younger than I. So, please take advantage of your age and all the time you have devoted to understanding Spanish via TN's and go to a new level. You will be overjoyed that you did.
The Time is Now. No excuses.
I'll eagerly await a report.
All the best ......
Thank you for your encouragemnet, Floridia!
And. . .I may not be as young as you think!
:D
Things have been VERY exciting and still surprising, that's for sure!
1. I want to see the Return of Florencia.
2. I do not believe that Max
is the father of Connie's baby.
There could be some sort of parallel here - with José not knowing his real father, and indignant Connie not divulging the real father of her baby. I'm still dreaming.
Furthermore, Amaya may soon exhibit
symptoms of pregnancy - from Max of course.
If Amaya is preganant, with all the stress she's under, will that baby survive? If not it would parallel Mauro's situation. Will Amaya be able to hold off Cesar's advances, carry a pregnancy and either miscarry or have a stillbirth and never tell Max? That would be a REAL parallel.
Agree with you re Max as maybe NOT the father of Connie's baby. If the child is born will they give it an illness that requires the father's blood be tested or something? We know it doesn't have to be real but I expect more from this crew.
And Florencia. You know Floridia, these folk have surprised us so much so far, who knows?
If Amaya was pregnant I would hope they're mention it more. It's been a while without any reactions other than the initial one (which I thought was sickness from knowing Max's mother was a stone cold murderer) for it to make any sense at this point.
I'm really hoping MAx is the father of Constanza's baby. While it'd be easier if it was Salvador, I don't mind if it was Max's. Also, that would throw Constanza into full blown villain territory. She's needy and selfish but I don't know that'd be a little too much for her. I wouldn't put it above Cecy though (not a spoiler but she's lost so many marbles).
Regardless of all the shenanigans, Quiero AMarte does thrive on a certain amount of realism, more so than most novelas. They don't have completely original ideas but they have managed to subvert expectations time and time again, using known plots and conventions and then flipping them on its head.
Also, while Max may take care of the baby I don't think they'd go so far as having him marry Constanza and then discover it was a lie or use the disorder twist.
They certainly have managed to subvert expectations time and time again, using known plots and conventions and then flipping them on its head. Amaya's strategy is one of those flips and it has gotten a strong reaction! I just hope that I, personally, don't find any future flips too distasteful. I'm trying to reign myself in, though, with my rants.
I am forewarned, let's see what other cards they deal. So far it's never been dull!
Not even Dirty Harry will bail her out of this one!
I cannot comment for the rest of the weekend. Just checking in briefly to say that I finished today's
episode and like the humorous turn of events. Max has his spunk and his sense of humor back.
Chat much later .....
Our heroine’s new goal is venganza, and it’s causing a rift in novelaland. Unusually, we get a lead who is putting love on the backburner to take care of some business first. No offense to Flavio Medina, but given that she has to give up CdlF, I might have found a way to make both love AND vengeance work, but that’s just me. But there’s no way she could make this new scheme work if she’d have to tell Max. He’s too trusting of his mother and would have blabbed before she had proof of all Lu’s evildoing. Then, not only does she not get justice, but the woman who tried to kill her and Vale would know she’s a risk. Besides, Cesar is better positioned to keep them both safe at this point. See Vivi’s priority list. Vale’s safety comes ahead of her own happiness, and she doesn’t think Vale can possible be safe with Lu around and not in jail. Amaya is in full mama bear mode and not really thinking of the long term consequences. She’s just like Dolores.
We start back in Constanza’a hospital room. She’s using the threat to the baby to beg Max not to go, to stay with her. She needs him close. But he doesn’t want to confuse things. This doesn’t change anything between them. Hallelujah. Connie whines more about how she just can’t be alone right now, blah blah blah. But she claims it doesn’t have to be an intimate relationship; they can just live together and have a life together. That’s all. He tells her AGAIN that he’ll be there for her and the baby, but can’t commit to her as a partner. Life goes on, he tells her.
Elo is with Amaya, and tells her that she has to assume all the consequences of her decisions. (THIS is someone Amaya needs to spill to. Elo and Juli would make a great Scoobies Two team). Elo leaves as Caro comes in to check on her friend.
Geno has met Jose, hiding in a totally non-suspicious hoodie, at the airport with his passport. She wants to know what he did, and all he can do is gripe about how he could have had mansions and a bunch of stuff (I think this is what he was snipping about), and he didn’t thanks to her. He doesn’t feel anything for Manuel either. I’d forgive some brattiness given Manuel’s inability to accept responsibility, but this is too much. He’s a little ^#%*.
Juliana, Flavia, and Jorge come to see Max (who thought bubbles “Why Cesar? Why him?”) in Connie’s room.
Geno still tries to talk to Jose, but all he feels for her is shame. He tells her to leave, but she won’t until she knows he’s safe. All he wants from both of his parents is dinero, mucho.
She goes to the counter to check him in for a flight, and the woman has to leave to get some immigration papers. A manager some back, along with some cops who want to arrest them. Jose puts up a little fight and begs his mother for help. Ha. She’s going to call Manuel, but gets stopped before she can make the call because they are arresting her too as an accomplice. Jose tries to defend her and say she had nothing to do with this, but it seems like she kinda did. The getaway, that is. Not the robbery.
Max asks Jorge to go take care of things at the finca since he needs to stay a bit with Con. Jorge and Flavia will leave the next day.
Cecy has brought Ivan to El Paraiso and is introduced to everyone. Hector fills Ivan in about their visit to El Infierno or whatever the other finca is called, and no one here thinks Mariana is there willingly. Ivan wants to go rescue her NOW but Dona Chelo tells him the place is surrounded by security and they need to think of a way to do this that doesn’t get them hurt. Uli, meanwhile, has agreed to let Mari out. Out of the room, that is. She can go around the grounds, but that’s it. She notes that it’s still a prison, just a larger one.
Ivan talks to the other guy who would be perfect for Hortensia about Cipriano’s movements. Ivan realizes that Cip may be playing a jugando doble (playing both sides?) He’s behind this anyway.
Manuel gets a call about Geno and Jose being arrested and calls a lawyer to go get them out, asap.
Amaya texts Valeria about wanting to see her. Cesar slimes in to see her, and has his phone out taking pics. This is a very disturbing habit of his. She protests and he says he understands their agreement, that he’ll wait until she’s ready, but he can’t sleep in another room. Then the whole family will know that they aren’t having “relations”. He laughs when she suggests he sleep on a couch or something.
Connie talks to Max more about rebuilding their "friendship".
Cesar tells Amaya that it’s difficult to have her that close and not touch her. He snuggles up to her and she rescues herself by needing to take another pill. This injury is the best thing that could have happened.
Lu and Mauro talk about what happened. Mauro is worried about what is happening to the family. Lu is sure that Amaya just wanted to catch a Montesino, and Cesar was the more ambitious one. Mauro doesn’t believe it since she has all that land in Chiapas. Lu scoffs that the land doesn’t compare to being a Montesino. Then she digs in a little more, telling Mauro that he has to accept that the daughter of his former lover is a gold-digger (or some such thing). He’s just so bummed that his two sons fell in love with the same woman. Lu looks much less upset. She looks happy.
The lawyer and Manuel are at the jail, but the lawyer can’t do anything until the morning. It won’t be hard to get Geno out, but Jose is another story because they used guns. Manuel wants him to do whatever he can. Geno is her cell, begging across the aisle to the boy’s cell, begging for Jose’s forgiveness. Jose doesn’t say anything but it looks like he’s crying. For her or himself?
Mariana wonders what will happen to her and Ivan’s love. Ivan thought-bubbles too until Cecy interrupts. He has a plan but doesn’t know if it will work.
The next day, Lawyer has gotten Geno out and Manuel greets her. Geno says Jose can’t stay in jail. The lawyer tells them that the Montesinos want to press all the charges against whoever did this, and Geno pleads with Manuel to talk to Mauro. Manuel agrees, but thinks she shouldn’t be there. Back in the jails, Jose and one of the other guys talk. Jose asks about Flaco, and gets a punch in the gut for this. I miss why- to shut him up and not snitch? He gets hit again, falls on the floor, and gets a kick in the stomach. The cop threatens to move Guy to another cell if they don’t knock this off, while Jose is lying on the floor bleeding.
Breakfast at the Montesino’s. Cesar sashays in with Amaya on his arm, all smug. But Max and Constanza follow. Max breaks the news that he and Con will be living there too. And why not? If Cesar can be there with Amaya, why not Max with the mother of his child? Tensions all around, and Max and Cesar trade barbs like 10-year olds. Mauro graciously welcomes Con to the house, given what’s happening with her father. Lu wants to prepare a guest room for Con, but Max says no. She’ll be staying with him. Flavia, bless her, snarkily asks if they are getting back together again, and Con makes an annoyed face. Cesar and Max snip at each other some more. (Sorry I missed these because they might have been good. If I push the internet recording back, it starts reloading all over again).
Manuel talks to Genoveva about how she became Jose’s accomplice by helping him. She tells him he doesn’t care about his son; he only cares about Constanza. Manuel points out that Jose was part of the group that SHOT his pregnant daughter. Geno defends him, saying he was affected by finding out that Manuel was his father. Manuel defends himself with the belief that Jose never wanted for anything, money he means. Geno, I think says something about needing more (fill in for me here). Then she says they are paying for Manuel’s cowardice.
Cecy walks Ivan out, and tells him she doesn’t think he should do this because she cares about him, but she won’t insist since he won’t listen anyway. Ivan has told her his plan, and wants her to tell his father what’s up if he doesn’t come back.
Uli has gone into Mariana’s room and finds her passed out on the floor. He yells for help.
Con has settled into Max’s room. She ignores a call from her father. She can’t talk to him after finding out about his affair. Max tried to convince her otherwise, but she can’t now. He leaves, and Miss Can’t-Take-a-Not-Subtle-Hint thought-bubbles about getting him back. Juliana caught Max in the hallway to ask why he doesn’t go somewhere far away from here. He feels like he needs to get his life back, without Amaya. (But really he’s not being all that different than Cesar). Juli thinks this is a really bad idea to get close to Con just because of what Amaya and Cesar did. Max says it’s fine, he told Con that that they won’t be getting back together. Juli’s not buying it, and tells him he needs to set clear limits with her. And Amaya?, she asks. He no longer feels anything for Amaya.
Amaya, still at the breakfast table, asks Jorge for daily reports on the business and her land. Jorge says she’ll need to talk to Max about that. Cesar wants them too, seeing as how Amaya is his wife and all. Jorge says again that he’ll have to get them from Max, and if Cesar wants them, he can ask his wife to share them with him. Jorge leaves, having taken Cesar down a bit.
Juliana then chats with Con, and tells her that it would be a big mistake to try and get Max back. Con admits that she’s doing this. She thinks they can make it work since Max will never ever forgive what Amaya did.
Mauro offers to buy Cesar and Amaya a house. Amaya thanks him, but she’s fine staying with them in the big house. Cesar is cool with this. QTH? Faces from both Mauro and Lu.
The Scooby Two team (Elo, Juliana, Flavia, Jorge) talk about Amaya becoming a bruja. E Everyone thinks it’s a terrible idea for Max to stay in the house with Amaya.
Amaya and Max pass each other on the stairs, and Amaya tells him that if he brought Con to the house to get to her, it won’t work. He doesn’t care. He stopped caring about her as soon as she showed up with Cesar and Max found out what kind of woman she really is. She maintains her mask.
Ivan sneaks into a truck going to Uli’s (?) while Hector chats with the drivers. This must be step one in The Plan. (Scooby Three team?)
Mariana was passed out for real, and Uli got an actual doctor to look at her. Uli asks about pregnancy, but that can’t be it because the doc tells him she said she was a virgin. The rat bastard is interested.
Everyone has left the room, letting Jorge and Juliana talk. Jorge wants to know what the doctor says is wrong with her. He’s worried and wants to take care of her, etc. She smiles at him while he blabs on and on about wanting to help her. Then he kisses her! And she looks shocked! Uh oh.
Kelly
-I realized that for all my understanding of Amaya, I have no sympathy for anyone else. But Geno and Manuel had years to tell Jose the truth about his father and their relationship, and didn’t. Constanza had a chance with Max after pressuring him, and she blew it. Now she’s ignoring him again. They’ve all had time to learn from their mistake. And Jose shot someone. Everyone knows that's bad. Amaya is making a brand new mistake, so she gets a pass. For now.
on Amaya spilling to Elo & Juli - she doesn't know them well enough to know what good allies they would make and now that they hate her she probably won't be able to get to know them
on Jose shooting someone - that whole scene was up in the air but I thought it was the friend that shot Cons.
"Cesar tells Amaya that it’s difficult to have her that close and not touch her. He snuggles up to her and she rescues herself by needing to take another pill. This injury is the best thing that could have happened." lol yeah maybe next time she can injure Him
ITA on Amaya only getting so much of a pass. If she doesn't start doing some really effective detective work soon (it rhymes!)it'll be hard to justify her actions.
Kelly
I'm confused because there is a separate post further up the main page for an episode of this tn.
Was there a recap on how the robbery happened? I must go look at the other post.
Wow, Amaya, Max, Cesar, AND Connie under the same roof. That's a combustible mix.
Both Manuel and Geno were cowards in the way they conducted their relationship these last 20 years and the way they chose to raise their son.
Is the fainting because she has refused to eat? I don't blame her. Who knows what Uli would put in the food to make her more cooperative. Now he's intrigued that she's a virgin. Gross. Ivan- Get her out of there!
Thank you Kelly. Just watched Friday's episode and read your recap. Well, this is going to be interesting indeed Everybody all in the same house!
