Thank you, Jean, for our new page, and for the warmth wish!

Los Mis

LXV, I saw your post that you will recap tonight's show. Thank you! I am not able to see it tonight, so I will be desperate for that recap!! I know you will probably post it tomorrow some time, so don't think I won't have that in mind. I am just very dependent :D

I will be watching it on tv tomorrow, tuesday, night, so, unless you, or someone else plans to recap it, I would be happy to try recapping it.

I hope you are warm! Saw you are getting some of these storms too. Stay warm all in the storms!

Hasta luego

Thanks for the new page, Jean!

Los Mis

Well, scales are falling from eyes, worms are turning, chickens are coming home to roost -- oh, sorry, I'm just burning up some old clichés to keep warm. :D

DUEÑOS DEL PARAÍSO – LUNES – Parte 1

CASA CARDONA

In Anastasia’s bedroom Conrado is trying to make love to her, but she can’t concentrate. She thinks about the rapists, then tries to get back into the present.

CASA QUEZADA

The doctor for hire says he’s done all he can for Leandro. He’s given him a big dose of morphine, but the pain will be terrible when it wears off. LQ babbles about a woman trying to drive him crazy. Paola thinks it’s Anas, but I wonder if he might be babbling about his ex-wife. They finally agree they have to take him to the hospital. Iggy has Paola go ahead and stays behind to shoot the doctor!

CASA CARDONA

Now Anas remembers her wedding night. Conrado plays his cards well. When Anas tells him she’d rather sleep, he agrees. He makes her laugh saying he’ll have to think of something truly sad (to calm himself down, apparently). We then see Anas remembering a time when she couldn’t make love to Nataniel. Nat in her memory asks if she loves him so much why she can’t make love to him. I think we’re supposed to think what her mother subjected her to is the problem. [Apparently they did it often enough for her to get pregnant 5 times.]

CASA ROMERO

Luciana calls her grandmother in México. Her grandmother tells her not to worry, to leave it to her; she’ll take care of it. We don’t really know how much Lu told her.

MIAMI POLICE STATION

Riquelme explains to Benavides what happened at Quezada’s warehouse. That there were 12 victims, 7 dead and 5 in serious condition. [What? I didn’t think any could have survived the inferno.] Riquelme goes on to say they were poisoned with arsenic. Benevides: “So what does your little boss say?” Riquelme: “that we have to gather evidence so the trial will be quick and easy.” Benavides: “Meanwhile the bodies pile up, 50 or 100, and you don’t have a single arrest nor even a suspect!” Riquelme imitates Ferrara’s Castilian accent: “Relax. The violence in the city is controlled.” They laugh. Ferrara shows up and chews out Riquelme for wasting time talking to Benavides. He also does the same thing to Corona, the female cop. What a team builder this guy is!

Ferrara tells them that he’s found out that LQ has been admitted to the hospital under the alias of Robledo.

CASA CARDONA

In the morning Conrado tells Anas that he’s amazed. She can go toe to toe with the scariest guy but, when a man wants to be tender with her, she falls apart.

MIAMI HOSPITAL

Iggy is just telling Paola that he loves her when Riquelme and Ferrara arrive.

CASA CARDONA

A taxi pulls up, and Érica gets out. She tells Renato she wants to see her husband. Renato goes inside, and Modesta tells him flat out that Anas isn’t up yet; she spent the night with Conrado. Érica walks in yelling Conrado’s name at the top of her lungs. Anas and Conrado can hear her outside the bedroom door and are frozen. Irene to the rescue. She tells Érica that, when Conrado sleeps over, his room is way on the other side of the house. And he did not sleep here last night. She also tells her Anas left early for work. Then she leads Érica to a mirror and asks what a woman who looks like her has to worry about. Érica believes her.

DUEÑOS DEL PARAÍSO – LUNES – Parte 2

MIAMI HOSPITAL

Ferrara at first pretends to believe that Paola is Robledo’s wife. Then he calls her by her real name and asks how her father is. He asks her if she believes in God. She says she’s a good Catholic. He asks that, if that’s true, why doesn’t she think of the widows and children of those who died because of LQ. He tells her that a good Christian would turn her father in.

CASA CARDONA

Gina goes into labor. Modesta notices that her water has already broken. Renato, Modesta, Gina, Irene, and Anas get into a car. Anas remembers a morning when she woke up to a miscarriage.

CARDONA WAREHOUSE

Adán tells Conrado that his wife asked him for a divorce. He goes on to say that if Vero leaves him, he’s quitting the business and that none of it means anything without her. Conrado gives him the Playboy Manifesto. Además qué tanto. A reina muera, reina puesta. Las cosas pasan. El amor se acaba. (Big deal. The queen is dead, long live the queen or there’s lots of fish in the sea. Things happen. Love dies.) Conrado goes on to ask him to imagine his life as a single man with millions and the beautiful women he could have. Adán imagines himself telling Conrado he’s attracted to one beauty: Érica!

Alejo shows up telling Adán and Conrado to hurry up. They have to come pay for some sports cars. Adán is worrying about how they’re going to launder so much money.

Analia shows up. Alejo is very cold toward her. She tells him she just said those things to try to calm down Vero. She swears that she loves him and manages to seduce him.

ON A FLORIDA FREEWAY

After being asked to get on the freeway instead of going surface streets to the hospital, Renato is disgusted. He stops the car and he and Anas get out. Showing his essential decency, he says that Gina is in labor and this is not good. He says he’s ready to turn the car around and go to the hospital. Anas, cold as ice, tells him that if he does that, he’s out.

CASA ROMERO

Érica has brought over some brownies to Vero. She swears they don’t have marijuana, but Vero has zero sense of humor. She goes on to say that she doesn’t trust Érica. She says that Conrado and Érica saw she and Adán as a pair of innocents with money problems and ruined their lives.

CABIN OUTSIDE OF MIAMI

Anas wonders if someone cleaned up (presumably Nat’s blood). Renato says he asked Olmeda to do so. Irene wonders what they’re doing here. Anas tells her that Modesta has delivered babies before. Anas says that, if her own daughter didn’t matter to her, then what’s all the fuss about this zorra.

CAR DEALERSHIP

Valentín, the guy at the car showroom that they’re buying all these cars for a lot of money, but they can’t justify where the money is going. It’s $5 million per week and they don’t have any buyers. Adán suggest raising the prices! He thinks rich people will want them more if they cost more.

CABIN OUTSIDE OF MIAMI

Modesta has Gina on the dining room table and says she’s going to bring Nataniel’s heir into the world. Anas also tells Renato that this baby will change everything. He’ll be the owner of all this. [And Elias is chopped liver?]

Thank you Novelera!

Dueños

terrific recap novelera, it really filled in a lot for me.

rewatching the Leandro trap, it looked like two shots were fired and they both hit him, so what about Victor Manuel, did he get cleaned up as well?

Casa Cardona, this house is too weird, smooth Renato with his shades, Modesto with her eyepatch, motherly Irene who has been down more dark allies that we even care to know about, and the beautiful Gina waddling around with child, with the occasional Elias or Olmeda flitting about, all ruled by the iron hand of Anas the abused.

hmm, so Renato kind of lets Erika go roam around while he goes to get her a cab, did he tell Anas that he works for her and not Conrado?

and Anas is having some trouble with intimate moments, but that Conrado sure is smooth, and patient, can't really hide him under the bed now can we?

and now this baby thing, Anas has lost six so far, and now Gina is in labor, were they ever going to the hospital, I can see Anas wants the baby, but is Gina toast afterwards, and aren't there any beds in that place.

but I guess she will survive, since Elias went to the trouble to tell her that he's come on board to make sure that Anas burns.

poor Adan, wakes up next to his wife, and wonders who this stranger is.

and Lu makes a long distance call to Mexico through the operator, are there still operators?

Andrea López (Analía) is amazing in this role, I've only seen her as the 'other' woman, and talk about vulnerable, I guess that would be Alejo.

DUENOS:

Great recap, Novelera, and great comments, Deb!

Yes, Anas' past does seem to be intruding a lot into her present. I wonder why she doesn't either use birth control or have her tubes tied, since every time she gets pregnant, she loses the baby.

Elias couldn't tell Gina to whole truth, but she now knows he's still working to bring down Anas. Anas sure has a lot of problems.

Sal likes to yell a lot, and he's really good at trying to intimidate drug people into talking. But they rarely do, and he still has no evidence. I don't see why he can't assign someone to take lots of photos of all these people he KNOWS are druglords, but he apparently hasn't thought of that (although Saul did!). Saul is trying to get info, and everyone's just ignoring him, which is funny.

I can certainly see how the beautiful Analia was succesful in seducing Alejo. Wow!

Once again, being a doctor for druglords is a "dead-end" job.

I cannot find the recap for Los Miserables. Help!!!!!!

Duenos

Thanks, Novelera. You have a great way of capturing the facts and emotions.

I don’t get why Iggy killed the doc. Because he thinks he’d talk to the police? Surely he knew the hospital docs would alert the police to a gunshot patient.

Lu, not cool to tattle on your parents to Adán’s mom.

Going to Anas and yelling for Conrado didn’t seem like something Erica would do.

Gotta love Analia’s pluck. She has no intentions of leaving an opening for Alejo’s real estate chick. But it seems like Vero will leave an opening to Adán and Erica.

Anas not letting Gina go to the hospital is pretty vile. Loved Renato standing up to her – almost anyway, as he did follow her orders.

LOS MIZ cap 93 Monday Night Feb 16

POLICE STATION CAFETERIA
Marina continues haranguing Lucia about the proper way to conduct a relationship, neglecting the most important feature, namely love. She just want Lucha out of the way, Lucha holds her ground and puts her down, explaining that whatever relationship she does with Daniel isn't going away just because whiny Marina wants it that way. Marina just won't let go challenging with backhanded accusations and showing her ugliest face. Lucha remains strong, dignified and in the right. She's finally had enough; gets up to go and the harpy keeps carping. Lucha gets the last word; la doctora sits there stewing.

POLICE STATION
Our 3 musketeers discuss the new jefe. The smartest one of the bunch, Marisela pipes up, he must have a file, we should look him up and see what he's all about. Pablo cautions her to be careful because the place is crawling with soplones. Evaristo gets a call from Adri. The goon squad (Vidal & Lopez) march in and make stupid insulting remarks about Mari's appearance (I wish she would cover up her impressive figure a little more, but hey, it's a telenovela) and try to take her out to lunch. Evaristo, trying to save her from this situation, pipes up, "why don't you go see about that thing in the archives." She's cool but continues at her desk, saying OK, when I get done with what I'm doing.

HOSPITAL
Evaristo & Abel clash in the corridor. Elena overhears and questions Abel. His secret is starting to leak out. Unconditional love from Elena, but "why all the lies?" He's a befuddled mess. He doesn't know how his parents are going to take this. She says, rather sensibly, they're going to have to find out some day. "Who else knows?" Lucha....and...Vicky (sobs).

In Adri's room, the OB is explaining the case to the young parents, but she doesn't know that Ev is the baby daddy, yet. He starts horning in with very pertinent remarks, such as "you'll have more babies, the important one to save is you. This prompts the OB to ask the obvious question. Adri doesn't answer her, saying instead, " you can directs your remarks to me, can't you?"

A LOCAL EATERY
Vidal, Lopez & Marisela sitting at a table with beers. Vidal opens his crude trap to spout how much he likes las hembras in all colors and sizes. He questions our girl why she became a cop. She replies candidly and admits to liking her work. These cretins don't really know how to deal with a woman who knows her own mind and makes her own way. Vidal tells Lopez to get lost and then tries to force himself our gal. She pushes him off & leaves saying "I thought we were here to talk about work."

MEANWHILE, BACK AT THE POLICE STATION
Lucha, having extricated herself from the unpleasantness in the cafeteria, strides in to see Pablo. "Dan told me I needed to talk to you about my husband." Dan spells it out, what we already know so well, and had assumed our heroine was developing an inkling. She wants to know how he's so sure. Pablo has something more than pure supposition this time: Rodriguez overheard a convo with Radames about the successful assassination of Anselmo and this is proof positive that El Diablo is behind it all. Nobody else would have the resources, the power and the pure evil to have figured out such a scheme that would put Daniel behind bars. She's still not getting it, I guess Gab Porras' a finer actor than even we all imagine. But Pablo gets her to think on it. He gets her to promise to act normally despite her doubts, and to call him at the first sign of anything.

LOS MIZ cap 93 past 2
PENTHOUSE OF HELL
He's cleaned up his act; she arrives back from her "errand" carrying shopping bags. They greet pleasantly enough, and he introduces her to a very pleasant Sara Hoffman, an interior designer he's hired for the impossible task of making over the apartment into someplace where his wife might like to live.

Later that day, the Montés family sits down to a delicious meal prepared by the gracious Rosa. He's playing his role of paterfamilias to a perfect "T" "How do you like the idea of decorating, my love?" "Oh, I'm a simple person, just some curtains and a rug; besides that'll cost a fortune." "Your love is worth it!" And besides, we want to make this house a home. Memin grins. It's all so nice and cozy. What fine sentiments. Then the conversation turns to a family trip to DisneyWorld in Orlando (after his trip next week to Veracruz) . "Yippeee!!" The kids are ecstatic. Lucha protests that the kids can't miss school. It's all so happy, but Lucha starts to wear her doubting face, with the half smile.

Later, Lucia gets ready for bed, wearing a beautiful and sexy negligee, that fits her to a 'T'. Mephistopheles lets himself in with admiring words. She backs up in alarm. "This is MY room, you have no right to enter without knocking." He says "I've got every right in the world because I am your husband." [ed note: Yikes!] She tries to play the "yeah but, it's not a regular marriage" card and besides, she sees him as a friend and nothing more. He's starting to get worked up; he's reached the end of his patience. She's also run out of same and tries to kick him out so she can just go to bed. He grabs her & forces a rather brutal kiss. She breaks away and they have a raucous & inconclusive showdown about who's in the right. She would be more convincing if she weren't flashing so much of her very fine endowments barely covered in black lace. This argument is going nowhere fast, but loudly. It comes down to one thing. The thing she's not giving. Meanwhile, Roxi is overhearing it all outside the door (I notice she is carrying the substitute muñeco). Memin joins her; they conspire briefly and burst open the door "We had a nightmare, help help! We're so scared; we want to sleep in here with you." "Of course, you can." Oleg can't believe it, "if those kids grow up warped, it's your fault." He leaves. Lucha hugs her kids in gratitude.

OFFICE OF LICENCIADO VELEZ
Genaro drops by with the errand of dissuading the good (and competent) lawyer from continuing the defense of Daniel Ponce. Certain important things like the wife and the children are mentioned casually in this conversation.

LOS MIZ cap 93 part 3
LUNCHTIME'S OVER, BACK TO WORK
Marisela gets the folder she wants. Vidal, the brute sneaks up and tries to sweet talk her into knocking off and spending the night with him. Eyebrows raised, arms crossed across her ample bosom in a revealing low-cut red top, she declines; he gets rough "You don't get it mi reina, this is an order; I'm nuts for you." she pushes him off her and he pulls a gun on her. Her steadfast partner Evaristo arrives just in time to pull a gun on the brute. León catches her desperate breath, before she also pulls out her gun. So they've got him.

Over in homicide, Alejandro reviews security tapes showing Lic. Velez' visit to Dan's cell, in which the lawyer excuses himself from taking Dan's defense. Dan wants to know who threatened him, Marrero, Echeverria, Cabello? Alej ponders this and wanders over to the cell. "Sorry about this Dan, but that guy was the best lawyer in the area." Dan's convinced he was threatened. "Those imbeciles don't want me to get outta here, without a good lawyer, I can't defend myself against those vultures. I'm going to have to spend the rest of my life in jail for a crime I did not commit." Alej says, you can get another lawyer. Dan says, it won't happen, I'll only get transferred to prison where I'll be turned into food for the worms." Alej gulps in recognition of the hard facts.

Back where the action is, Evaristo disarms the bad jefe and explains that he's got a video of every damning thing he said & did to León, a police officer on-duty. They've really got him where they want him despite all his sinister gnashing of teeth, and make a deal whereby Vidal approves their transfer out to another department and they leave him be. How's that sound. He accepts. Done deal. He shakes on it with Evaristo, but Marisela declines; "I don't shake hands with swine like you." Exit the good cops, leaving the bad cop to pound his fists on the table.

DANIEL PONCE'S BABY NURSERY
Octavio is learning the hard way about little babies and colic. Chelo demonstrates her maternal competence at burping and other fine points, "How long before the tears stop, Chelo" "For me, never, but you're young. You'll find someone and move on." He won't hear of it.

THE CAFE WHERE EVERYBODY GOES AFTER A SHOWDOWN
Evaristo & Marisela rehash the unpleasant encounter. She's like to see the recording. He says, "There is no recording; he had a gun on you , so I just thought it up. But it worked, didn't it?" She reaches over for a kiss, of gratitude, of relief, of whatever else is still in the mix for them. Pab walks on the scene and teases them. They drink together, and the kids tell their story. Mari says if it weren't for Rod's quick thinking, she doesn't know what she would have done. He, with smug modesty, leans back acknowledging that he won the day without a single shot fired. Pablo agrees, but warns that with a guy like that, sooner or later there will be blood. He answers his phone. It's Alej, who's starting to worry, because Daniel's defense is now on the line. Pablo already realizes this and takes the opportunity to ask for assistance for our daring duo; they don't want to press charges, because this guy has friends in high places. Looks like Alej is going to help out.

LOS MIZ cap 93 part 4
THE PENTHOUSE OF HELL
The kids hysterically confess that they were afraid that Lucha was gonna get hit. That's why came in the way they did. She kisses them with thanks for their quick-wittedness. Roxana pipes up the Rafael now seems more like el Diablo than like the Rafael they knew in Monterrey. Memin says he seems like two people in one. Lucha can't stand this; she hustles them off to sleep one on either side of her in the big bed. she promises them a fairy tale, but Roxi wants to be sure it's not going to have a bloody ending.

Lucia, wide awake now, replays all the important scenes from -------------------. Her face transitions from puzzlement to high anxiety. She dials Pablo and tells him & Dan were right. She's convinced her husband is El Diablo! "So, tell me what to do now." He wants her to stay cool & play along. "Yeah sure, but that guy is muy peligroso and I don't know how long I can hold out. I'm worried about the kids and...he wants me to fulfill my wifely duties...Ga-a-a-h!

THE HELLHOLE HIDEAWAY
Nuria warns Liliana that she's not there to be her servant, so don't try bossing her around. "Well, aren't you?" "No sister, you're wrong. Now, I'm the mera-mera del Diabl whereas you are just go with that fiasco over there (looking in Genaros' direction) who isn't even a decent consolation prize. He indignantly repudiates her imprecation. She just chatters on that she's right. Diablo enters fit to be tied. He's on a rampage. "Whassamatta papacito?" inquires the snaky LIliana, "did that perfect wife of yours refuse you?" Yeah, but she lost, cuz I'm too much of a man for her; let's go—both of you. ¡!Vamos. the resentful Genaro nurses his drink and fondles his gun.

DEYANIRA'S HOUSE OF UNFINISHED BUSINESS
She's in her bathrobe putting on makeup when Carlos knocks on the door. He's there to break it off for good (you mean to say, it wasn't already after what those two have done to each other?). She puts an end to this line by promptly dropping her robe. Well, the rest is inevitable. I guess Carlos was wrong

JAILCELL / LUCHA'S BEDROOM / UNIDENTIFIED STAGE SET
Dan muses & remembers: isolated incidents. Lucha muses & remembers more isolated incidents. They all share a common theme: the real identity of the man known as Rafael Montes. And then, to assist in her decision making, Gabriel Porras leaps onto centerstage for a dizzying montage of character morphing. It's very amusing, but a bit gratutious and if I weren't such a fan of the guy, I would find it annoying. So, on with the show..Lucia awakens, saying, "es el. I've married the devil." So, now she knows, at long last. She begs all the ghosts of her past to guide her, show her the way out of this nightmare

SOME BAR WHERE THE GOOD GUYS OBVIOUSLY DON'T GO
Assembled company includes Nuria, la gatita, her arms wrapped around Olegario, el diablo. On his other side sits Liliana, la diabla. The two bad cops: Lopez, el soplón and Vidal, el bruto agree with el D's affirmation that the value of women is to make the guys happy! Ain't that the truth. (he uses rather unattractive language; I looked up ponedoras and learned that it refers to egg-laying animals.) Lily looks askance at the giggly Nuria. They all raise a glass to Daniel Ponce, who today is gonna die in jail!! "Just imagine the headline...'Daniel Ponce dead, the score is settled' " "Diablo congratulates this jovial wordsmith "Hey, you should be a journalist!" They are full of themselves except the humorless & stolid Genaro. El bruto asserts himself as the boss. [guy's an idiot].

LOS MIZ cap 93 part 5

SOME BAR, cont'd
Some interesting dynamics ensue when el diablo tries to entice la diabla into a threesome with la gatita. Lil (who seems to be in a bit of a daze) starts to snuggle in, but Genaro, the persistent chump & bodyguard, intervenes, hauling her off with the reminder that el diablo is their worst enemy and furthermore that someone of her status shouldn't be mixing with such a low-caste as Nuria. She goes reluctantly, saying "you're not the boss of me, besides, you don't really care about me, nobody cares about me, sob, sob." Ever stalwart, Genaro pumps her up with pep talk "Look, you can go cry in private, but out here you've got to be strong. Go take to the ladies room & wash your face" His exasperated expression is priceless as she goes off to powder her nose.

Nuria can't get Diablo to dance with her, so she goes off with Lopez, the little snake. Vidal takes a seat next to Oleg and gives him a present he thinks ought fix things right up: it's some kind of date rape drug and already the hairs are standing up on top of my head. Because even though, I think Vidal intended to help Diablo out with Liliana, we in Viewerville can surmise a darker purpose. It's not supposed to be an aphrodisiac, but rather puts the woman out so she can't protest, and possible won't even know. [again, I am aghast]. Big bro handslaps & a toast to Diablo's intended conquest.

POLICE HQ—DAN'S FORMER OFFICE
El Bruto Vidal is nursing a hangover with an icepack when Evaristo & Marisela walk in requesting his signature on their resignation and transfer papers to the homicide department. He's so aggravated by his headache, he starts to sign immediately but stops; No deal without the recording! Evaristo says, sorry, but you can't have my bargaining chip. [doesn't anybody understand the concept of copying files? I mean what difference would it make, Evaristo could have sent that video to a million people with one click of the return key—oh, yeah, it's beanie-time!]

PENTHOUSE
Lucia gets the kids ready for school. Olegario bursts in, a drunken fool & slobbers all over them. Lucha with great disgust, sends him off to get cleaned up and go to bed; then grabs her purse & follows the kids out the door. I thought for a minute he was play-acting & that this was some sort of a ruse, but...evidently, I was wrong. He's screwed up big time, he slaps his head ruefully.

JAILCELL
Dan & Pab muse about the probability that the lawyer, Velez was threatened and so dropped Dan's case. Dan's convinced there's no other lawyer who can pull it off and get him out. Pab gives Dan the good news that Lucha has finally come around to believing the truth about the identity of her husband. Dan smiles widely, [it's kind cute, after all] Now he's got a real reason to get free: to protect Lucha. And this time, he's determined not to fail!

Los Mis

LXV, thanks for another great recap! You perfectly captured the essence of each scene and then some.

Ah Marina, the lovesick psychiatrist was just about to threaten Lucha before Lucha left and put an end to her teenage threats. Following Ivanna's advice will be her downfall.

Marisela made her decision out of spite even though after their first meeting it was clear that she needed to keep a professional distance from this guy. Vidal is indeed a brute with no boundaries or scruples. And now we know he’s fond of drugging resistant women. I totally agree with your comments on this topic. Unfortunately I think either Lucha and/or Marisela will become a victim to this drug. Thank goodness Lucha's eyes are open (and the kids too although I'm not sure if that's a good thing). But as we know knowledge isn't always power in a telenovela battle against the devil.

When 'Rafael' stormed in drunk I think he called her Santita, Diablo's nickname for her that she hates. Guess he realized that little pieces of him will always slip out no matter how much he tries to fake it.

I keep thinking that poor Rosa jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire when she left Radames house. I hope she’s not caught in the middle of the warfare.

spanish student

Loz Miz: I hope Diablo do not drugged Lucha but who am I kidding? He will but ojala he does not succeed. When will Diabla go get that memoria at Dayenira's? She will be taost, poor thing.
Duneos: Anas is it the baby or Gina? One won't make it. I hate Elias I hope he does not get to destroy Anas but she's no Teresa RDS :-(
I must say.
Romy

Dueños

Thanks for the kind words, all. I will do another recap Thursday night.

I HATE it when I post a typo in the Spanish I've so carefully included. It's A reina muerta, reina puesta. I found this expression interesting. It's been used several times to refer to dead narco kingpins. rey muerto, rey puesto. Because there usually is a second in command ready to take over. But this is the first time I heard it refer to a woman. And in this case not a leader, just a woman who, in Conrado's mind, could easily be replaced.

His cavalier attitude about women says a lot about him. I think he loves, or at least used to love Érica, but probably more in the sense of possessing such a gorgeous thing. I think he's incapable of the deep love Adán and Verónica have for each other.

Hombre, loved drug lord doctor being a "dead end job".

I'm trying to figure out where they're going with the baby being born in the cabin. It seems obvious that Anas wants Nat's baby. But I don't see the writers having her kill Gina right after the birth. Maybe they'll go with Gina being kept around to nurse the baby and be her secretary, but Anas spending time with the kid and trying to get him or her to see her as its mother. They say "he" a lot, but I don't think they knew the sex in 1977.

LOS MIZ

spanish student "But as we know knowledge isn't always power in a telenovela battle against the devil." Indeed! Thanks for your gracious comments, and Romy Yes, Deyanira might very well be toast in a battle with Liliana over the maldita memoria which she supposes resides in that creepy peluche. Of course, Roxana's still dragging it around with her, but in a different dolly, as we noticed last night.

Los Mis

Romy and LXV, you two are definitely on to something re: Deyanira. Perhaps that explains why she gave Lucha something to remember her by.

Los Mis

Thank you for yet another beautifully nuanced retelling, LXV. It was a pleasure reading it.

Thank you, LXV, for another excellent recap! I love the detail you give it, and I really love how long they are!! I always just want more! Your writing is so great!

I am going to post a kind of recap - or scene outline, more like - soon. Meanwhile, please, everyone, do not hesitate to comment on tonight's capitulo!

Deyanira is in Dr. Mallorca's office. "I'm late." You know, monthlies and all. "How late," he asks. "A day." She says what things lead her to think she is pregnant. He says they'll do the test.

Police HQ

Evaristo and Marisela - he is flirting with her pretty seriously for someone supposedly in love with Adriana, and considering he knows Marisela has feelings for him. Not okay, IMHO. Anyway, Pablo comes up to them, they talk, he says, "If we leave Daniel in here, he is dead."

Marina's Office

Carlos explains he is a doctor with "high aspirations" and he can't be with, marry, a former prostitute.
She says something about that not being a good excuse.

Hospital

Sor Mili and Lucha, Deyanira enters, all happy with news. She is pregnant! Lucha hugs her, Sor Mili asks, "Are you happy or sad" about it.
"Happy!" Deya grins.
One asks if she is going to tell Carlos. Deya says something?? No? Lucha says, he has "a right to know."

Hospital

Outside his office, Carlos is talking with Helena, asking her a "What if" about relationships …. ??

Sor Milagros' Office

Sor Mili is saying how raising a child alone will be hard, but it is a beautiful thing." Lucha gets a call from Rosa, telling her how Oleg is very sick."

Outside Carlos' Office

Pablo arrives, Helena starting to tell him to stop trying with her. He says he is not there for her, but to see Carlos.

Penthouse ("OF HELL," YES!!)

Lucha is home, her husband whining and moaning with apparent agony. She tells him it is a hangover, so drunk he was. He whines more persistently. "Get me some milk," he asks.

Carlos' Office

Pablo asks him to do a favor. Carlos says, "Of course."

Penthouse

Lucha gets el Diablo's milk and some juice for herself. He somehow ?? gets her to cross the room, and while she does, he pours his drugs into her juice.
"A toast," he says. "Ridiculous," she says, then he says something else that convinces her to taost, "Salud!" She sips. He says, "Another toast, to the children!" She can't NOT toast them, of course, so does, and drinks more.

Police HQ

Evaristo and Marisela
Missed this whole scene. Anyone?

Penthouse

Lucha is dizzy. GRRRRRR!!! "Relax," diablo says. "NO!" Lucha says. He is crawling all over her. Sickening.

Police HQ

Marisela and Evaristo with Dan. Talking of risk, but say they will do it. What's the plan?

Carlos' Office

Carlos says to Pablo, "That is completely illegal!"
Pablo asks him, "Help, or not?"

Penthouse HELL

Lucha, "LEt me go! Let me go!"

Warehouse

Liliana and Genaro. Nuria enters. Details anyone?

Penthouse

Lucha is unconscious. El Diablo is starting to strip her clothes off.
"Daniel … Daniel … " Lucha calls out. Olegario freaks out, "¡Cállate! ¡CALLATE!!!!" FURY!!
Then, Rosa knocks on the door!! YAY!! … asks … does she ask is anything wrong??
Freak Oleg runs out of the room.

Hospital

More with Pablo and Carlos??
Outside Carlos' office, Pablo says something to Helena, she says she is busy, honest, very busy, but he puts some papers down … walks away. She looks wistful. Sigh.

Penthouse

The kids come home, Olegario freaks more and flees the penthouse. Rosa takes the kids into the kitchen.

Police HQ

Marina is visiting Dan in jail. He says he wants to tell her the truth. She says she knows he is innocent. He says he has something he has to tell her. She rolls her eyes and says, "Lucha, right?"

Penthouse

The kids have found Lucha unconscious, can't wake her.

Police HQ

Dan and Marina. Marina points out that Lucha is married to another man. Dan tells her this is not the time to be jealous. He tries to explain that he is in danger … ??

Meanwhile, out in the police office, Marisela and Evaristo talking, he has to do something, walks off. His phone rings, Marisela sees it is Adriana, answers. I wish I got the conversation. Anyone?? I was so disappointed in Marisela!! She was vicious to Adriana, and even though Adriana was clearly distressed - and Adriana's blood pressure is clearly rising - she wouldn't let her talk to Evaristo, and hung up on her. Then, she erased the record of the call ever even coming in!!
¡Caramba! I was liking her.

Police HQ

Marina says to Dan, "How many times did i ask you not to break my heart?"
He apologizes!

Hospital

Chelo and Octavio. Baby needs changing, so Chelo goes to do that, and Octo see Adriana going down a hallway.

Senator's Office

el Diablo tells him to send Daniel to the penitentiary, now.

Hospital Chapel

Adriana is crying. Octavio has followed her in.
Talk. Comforting her. She feels selfish, his having just lost Vicky. Anyone??

Senator's Office

Olegario: "Get on the phone NOW."
Senator says he can not. Oleg picks up a photo of the senator's family, threatens. Ugly evil face.

Hospital Chapel

Octo and Adri still talking ….

Senator's Office

Who was the man there, a judge? Senator tells him to send Dan to the penitentiary now.
Man argues, senator tells him, "Just do it."
Man agrees, and as leaving, calls the senator a hypocrite.
Olegario steps out of shadow, applauding.

Chapel Again

Actavio still with Adriana. She is struck by severe pain.

Warehouse

Olegario tells Genaro they are going to kill Daniel when he is being transported to the penitentiary.
Liliana is outside, hears them, and is obviously not pleased to hear that.

I got to see part one of the video, and want to add one important thing that got past me last night: Marina saying the first worthwhile thing I ever heard from her! When Carlos admits he can't be with Deyanira because she was a prostitute, Marina says she has to end the session right there, and now speak as a friend not a therapist. "You are a fool if you lose a love like this over your stupid prejudices that no one cares about!"
I actually cheered for her for the tiniest moment!

I will try to add more if I get to see more of the video.

Many (belated) thanks, novelera, for Monday's terrific recap. I especially appreciated your including and translating Conrado's advice to Adán.

Niecie, yes, I think Iggy wanted to prevent the doctor from providing any information to the police. Even if the police are notified, the less info they have, the better, as far as Iggy is concerned. Besides, as Hombre has pointed out, being a doctor in a narconovela is a "dead-end job." The overwhelming number of doctors who treat narcotraficantes get killed, at least in the novelas (and perhaps in real life as well).

General- This obituary was in the NYTimes today. I remember her well from El Cuerpo del Deseo.

Lorena Rojas, a Mexican actress known for her roles in popular Spanish-language soap operas like “Alcanzar Una Estrella” (“To Reach a Star”) and “El Cuerpo del Deseo” (“The Body of Desire”), died on Monday at her home in Miami. She was 44.

Her publicist, Conchita Oliva, said that the cause was metastic cancer. Ms. Rojas learned she had breast cancer in 2008 and became an advocate for cancer education in Latino communities.

A familiar presence in Mexico and internationally on Spanish-language channels like Telemundo and Univision, Ms. Rojas often played protagonists notable for their grace while facing down histrionic co-stars and weathering unlikely plot twists.

She broke through in a supporting role in the 1990 series “Alcanzar Una Estrella,” a drama about an introverted girl’s efforts to win the love of a famous entertainer. The series spawned a sequel in 1991, which featured the pop star Ricky Martin, and a film in 1992. Ms. Rojas appeared in both.

In “El Cuerpo del Deseo,” which made its debut in 2005, she played the widow of a wealthy old man who dies and is reincarnated in a new body. More recently she played a villain in the telenovela “Rosario” in 2012 and 2013 and a mother trying to prove that her daughter was killed by her psychiatrist in the thriller series “Demente Criminal” in 2014.

Seydi Lorena Rojas Gonzalez was born in Mexico City on Feb. 10, 1971. In addition to her television work, she acted in Mexican films and recorded pop albums.

Her marriage to Patrick Schnaas ended in divorce. She is survived by her mother; her sister, the actress Mayra Rojas; her fiancé, Jorge Monje; and her daughter, Luciana Rojas.

In 2014 Ms. Rojas released an album of children’s songs that was inspired by her daughter.

Some things that caught my eye (or ear)

-Paola saying since Leandro lived, God is telling her that they are the "good guys". Iggy then reminds her that she promised if Leandro lived, he could do whatever se le pege la gana (whatever he wished) with her. He wants sex, and she actually does drop the towel later. Too bad he's so brutal, it turns her off.

Vero trusting "David". Nuff said.

What exactly is Renato going to do with Gina? Just move her far, far away, or actually kill her? I missed that part.

When Conrado burst in to find Sergio having sex, you just KNEW it wasn't with Erica, the way they were hiding the girl's face!

I love how Modesta is totally on Anas' side, no matter how deep Anas' goes over to the dark side.

Yes, Victor Manuel is alive. But what can they do with him?

So it seems that the country house where Nat was killed, is the same place where Anas ambused Leandro, and also where Gina had her baby. They really need some high powered cleaning supplies for this place!

DUEÑOS:

I meant ambushed, not ambused, although ambused should be a word.

Dueños
Muchas gracias, Hombre, for your interesting comments. Loved your remark about the country house's need for high-powered cleaning supplies.

I actually thought that Conrado was going to find Erica and Sergio doing the deed, and when it became clear that it wasn't Erica, I was nonetheless struck by how similar in appearance the two women are. I wonder whether non-Erica is the one who did whatever overt sex scenes "Sugar Lips" contains.

Sometimes Iggy seems so polished and under control, but ultimately he's neither, esp. not under control. That's apparent from his very rough attempt to have sex with Paola, and also from his repeatedly shooting himself in the foot (or wherever) with Vero by coming on much too strong. For example, after being so "understanding" and "sympathetic" with her, he suddenly suggests that the two of them take a bath together (or did I misunderstand?). When he sees the look of shock on her face, he tells her he was joking, but....

Dueños
The thing that caught my eye was Veros & Adans kitchen. They got the 70s colors right, avocado green & harvest gold. Mine was harvest gold.

Shouldn't they at least keep Gina around for a wet nurse? How soon after birth do you need to feed a baby?

¡Gracias a Dios! that wasn't Erica with La Mala Suerte.

Telemundo update, there are now captions, but only in español

Does anyone come to feed Victor Manuel?

Dueños

thanks Hombre!

and Juanita, good idea about non-Erika being a movie stand-in, and so funny when 'David' suggest a bath, massage, some wine...

what else?

does Conrado recognizes non-Erika from that strip club where they were selling coke.

Vero finally has her narco wife chat with Erika, compares her to Analia, all money, no love, Erika just leaves and says you know where to find me.

and as Vero leaves 'David's place, she runs into Paola.

and later Vero tells Adan about the journalist.

and Paolo returns to the hospital, being watched by the police, while Leandro paws the good looking doctora, he must be getting better.

I'm not really sure on the Gina thingy, Anas tells Renato he knows what to do, Irene accuses her of having Gina killed, but Anas says, did I say to have her killed.

Anas says this will be our secret that we will take to the grave, right?, and she confronts each person individually.

then later she talks to Renato about 'Devil's Door' the most inhospitable place in Florida.

and when Renato lays her into the back of his car, he covers her head.

(also known as Devil's Door)

Dueños

Thanks for getting the ball rolling, Hombre. Great comments, everyone.

I think that Anas intended for Renato to kill Gina. But I don't think he will, and Gina will re-appear much later.

Wow, I lost a lot of respect for Modesta. I guess she's one of those perros fieles that we see a lot in novelas. If I remember correctly, they said something about her having been Nataniel's nanny, although she'd really have to be about 80 for that to have been true!

My prediction (most of which turn out to be wrong): Victor Manuel will switch sides to Anastasia's crew because of Iggy and the guys just leaving him there tied up to either bleed to death or starve.

Juanita, good observation about the woman that Sergio was boinking being the person who really does the sex in "Sugar Lips". I was struck by how vehemently she denied being a stripper and that it seemed to upset Sergio that she might have done that. What? He only wants innocent women that he can corrupt?

Yes, Iggy surely did blow it with Paola. It seems as if he's never had a tender relationship with a woman and brutal sex is the only kind he knows.

I'm pretty much over Verónica. I know she's supposed to be a good person. But, really, going to a person she hardly knows, a journalist to boot, and telling him her husband distributes drugs? If she had two brain cells to rub against each other, wouldn't she know that that would be a very tempting story for a journalist, assuming he really was one.

And I didn't like her talk with Érica. Anyone with any kind of instincts would know that Érica was telling her the truth about she and Conrado not being manipulators who caused all her problems.

GENERAL

Jean, thanks so much for posting the NY Times obit about Lorena Rojas. I also remember her very well from El Cuerpo del Deseo. So very sad that her breast cancer apparently returned since her first diagnosis was in 2008. I didn't realize she had done the work about cancer in Latino communities.

Los Mis

Aficionada, thank you so much for your enjoyable run-through of yesterday's show. I especially liked your asides on our characters.

I'm not particularly surprised at Marisela's retreat into mean-girl persona. We saw her spiteful side early on, when Lucía was her rival and Daniel was her crush. She, like almost everyone on this show, is multidimensional; she is both heroic and loyal as well as petty and jealous. (We can't all be like St. Lucía, right?)

The writers are really showing us how clever Carlos and Marina are when it comes to giving advice and how blind they are when it comes to taking it -- not unrealistic, huh?

Poor Adriana. It looks as if her decision has been made for her. She can't be allowed to go into labor, so she will have to have an emergency c-section. Let's hope she and her baby survive.

Is Olegario fooling anyone at this point?

Lots of things are at the boiling point.

Is el Señor recapping tonight?

Dueños

Enjoying all the comments.

Iggy, all your wham-bam with prostitutes and (probably) one-night-stands have done you no good. Paolo dodged a bullet. They alluded to Iggy's problem in an earlier episode when he protested to Paola that he did know how to treat a real woman. Turns out he doesn't.

So Vero is "friends" with Iggy (David) and seen him with LQ and Paola. No idea where this is going. The writer is doing a fine job.

I'm giving Vero a break because she just found out everything and from "David" and her emotions are running through self-pity > anger > paranoia > self-righteousness, etc. I'm betting she doesn't stay stuck there. I've liked Vero ever since she observed Erica flirting with Adán with her perfect butt tooted in his face, but she kept her cool.

By Anas’ indignation over Gina boinking her husband, you’d think she’d forgotten she (Anas) was about to boink Erica’s husband the other night. Hypocrisy abounds. No one is perfect (except Renato! – he’s way too noble to have killed Gina).

Duenos

I can't see Renato killing Gina at this point either. He might have pre-pregnancy, but these latest events seem to have opened his eyes a bit to what Anastasia is. She's not the woman he (probably) fell in love with.

I missed the first part of the show. Couldn't watch knowing what was going to happen to the baby, so thanks for all the updates. Anas has quite the ego to think she could properly care for a baby. Sad when the most reasonable person in the room is the one who rented out her own child.

Devil's Millhopper is in Gainesville,(Univ of FL) over 300 miles from Miami. Is that where Anas wanted Renato to take Gina? Hardly any place more inhospitable than the Everglades & that is close by. But nice to have a travelog of FL.

LOS MIZ
Aficionada : Thank you, thank you; you covered every scene. There's so much going on at this point!

Carlos deciding he must be a sex addict when his real problem is class identity issues: he's got his work cut out for him. You're right about Marina; she finally showed an ounce of intelligence (if not necessarily charisma). Girl needs a new haircut, that stringy look just reinforces her mopey bitchiness.

The only one without feet of clay in all this seems to be the good Doc. Mallorca. Not only is he the last word in medical specialization, he always has the right words for every difficult situation. Abel is no match for him, I'm afraid, chemistry notwithstanding.

But, as NvMv so aptly put it, everybody's showing multi-dimensions. Kudos to the writers & the cast for a production that doesn't require too much suspension of disbelief; these characters pretty much ring true for me & I welcome the depth & detail of every role.

Good for Lucha for breaking up Olegario's evil intention with a completely unconscious expression of her true feelings. Curses foiled again! Diablo is madder'n a hornet now. At what point will he turn on her?

I agree with you that Evaristo shouldn't be playing with Mari's feelings when he's got a bigger commitment across town in the hospital. He seems very immature to me.

So, we all think Deya's bebe is definitely Carlos'? Wow, is he in for a surprise. With all his class prejudice, he'll probably accuse her of doing it just to trap him. (And would he be entirely wrong?) But, I do think Deya really just wants to be mother. This could be the impetus for Carlos the start expanding his world view. Anything could happen; we're so close to the end and the couples matchups are nowhere close to resolution. I noticed a poll the other day on Telemundo's site about who's going to end up with Daniel: Marina or Lucia? Nothing seems like a foregone conclusion.

Los Mis

I have to mention one small, telling moment that got to me last night: Adriana realizes that Octavio doesn't know about her situation with Abel and Evaristo because Vicky kept her word and said nothing. Adri breaks down at the thought of what a loyal friend Vicky was and feels the loss all over again.

LXV, we may not get all our couples issues resolved by the end, but I surely hope this festering pocket of corruption in the police department and in the government is routed out -- give us that much, at least.

Los Miserables

NovelaMaven, sorry I can't recap. I barely have time to watch the episodes and scan the recaps. I can probably do Friday night's episode.

I think Olegario will be completely exposed tonight. If Rosa is a good housekeeper, she will call an ambulance to come get Lucia when she sees her passed out.

I wonder how Maricela's lapse into pettiness will affect operation bust-daniel-out-a-jail.

LOS MIZ
I just got slammed with a big project, but if El Señor Hombre EC would consider taking Friday night this week, I can try to fill in for tomorrow night (Thurs.) It's a commitment I know, and time constraints are a bear, but it would be so cool not to drop the ball now that we are so close to home. I'd hate to lose momentum, even though we are a small group. It doesn't have to be more than bullet points. But I completely get if you can't. So, no worries. Just give me the high sign sometime tomorrow so I'll be ready. Otherwise, I'll take Friday as usual.

Los Mis

El Señor, and LXV, I asked because I don't want to step on anyone's toes. I completely understand. Life intervenes. But it would be nice to see this project through since we seem so close to the end and things are happening so fast.

I can easily do tonight. I'm willing to pick up tomorrow (Thursday) too, especially if it would be a hardship for you,LXV. Please let me know.

Variopinta: "Telemundo update, there are now captions, but only in español"
Have you found the videos working better for you? They were getting better for me, but now are worse again. And it seems to me there are more ads. You? I wonder if their adding captioning again has caused them to use more memory, or something. Also, it still seems to have something to do with the time I am watching, better at off-peak times, or something.
Argh, frustrating! Keep on trying! I keep on, too, since it is the only way I get to see most shows, if at all, and it is such a high-intensity point in Los Mis - THANK GOODNESS FOR RECAPPERS!!!

Los Mis

(Just read your discussing recapping as I was coming to past) Thank you, el Señor EC, LXV and NovelaMaven for covering this high-intensity week!!

NovelaMaven, thank you so much for your kind words to me! And for your comments and added details! I still only got one part of the video to play through, so am still missing a lot of details.
I especially thank you for reminding me about Marisela. I had completely forgotten about her, yes "spiteful," antics and attitude back when she was an active rival with Lucia!! Ah, yes, "She, like almost everyone on this show, is multidimensional; she is both heroic and loyal as well as petty and jealous. (We can't all be like St. Lucía, right?)" So true! It really is a strong feature of this show that it reflects human nature realistically. "Warts 'n' all," as they say. (Holy Warts for Santa Lucia, of course, lol!)
"The writers are really showing us how clever Carlos and Marina are when it comes to giving advice and how blind they are when it comes to taking it -- not unrealistic, huh?" Yes! A downright human PANdemic!
"Is Olegario fooling anyone at this point?" Uh-UH! Now, what to do about that? As you wrote, "I surely hope this festering pocket of corruption in the police department and in the government is routed out …. " Because no matter who knows he is el Diablo, how can they prove it? Wasn't that what Lily and Genaro had planned to do, get proof he is, then turn him in? I guess their own greed is trumping that.
I too hope for Adriana and her baby. That was a deeply moving moment when she remembered about Vicky, and was caught up short realizing she'd been so self-involved.

Whoa yeah, "the boiling point"!!

Thank you so much, lxv! Kind and generous words.
"There's so much going on at this point!" Yes!!
"Carlos deciding he must be a sex addict when his real problem is class identity issues …. " Well said. That really Is what that was about. "Girl [really does need] a new haircut"! ANYTHING to relieve that "mopey bitchiness"! I swear I was pleading with her when she was at the jail, "FIND SOME DIGNITY!"
Love what you said of "the good Doc. Mallorca"! He stays so cool and level, AND inspires it in others. What amazing growth in our world that the only-incidentally-gay character is a major and heroic character!
"Kudos to the writers & the cast for a production that doesn't require too much suspension of disbelief; these characters pretty much ring true for me & I welcome the depth & detail of every role." Yes! Thank you for helping me keep sight of that, too. As does NvMv's reflection of people's multi-dimensions.
"Good for Lucha for breaking up Olegario's evil intention with a completely unconscious expression of her true feelings." How true and moving a thought. And, yes, his rage is building, I wish they'd just take her and the kids to safety somewhere. But then, in this show, what we see is that the depth and reach of corruption shatters all possibility of safety! Breath-taking.
"In the river" wasn't one of the T M poll choices? Nah nah nah, not really. He has many ways to redeem himself fast approaching.
Look out, everyone!

el Señor EC"I think Olegario will be completely exposed tonight." ¡ojalá!
"I wonder how Maricela's lapse into pettiness will affect operation bust-daniel-out-a-jail." Yes! Thank you, I forgot about that part; she is turning sour again!

Rushing out, again, argh! Watch the show for me, too!!

I could barely handle Tierra last night. Flavio crashing the wedding on a horse was simultaneously the greatest and most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. Absolutely. Dying.

Though I do feel sorry for Dario.

Los Miserables, miércoles, parte 1

WAREHOUSE WITH ALL THE COMFORTS OF HOME
Lily lurks just outside and gets an earful. Olegario's mouth is watering at the idea of Daniel dying before he can redeem himself. Genaro would also like to see Daniel die in disgrace since he blames him for all his troubles. Oleg grins as he recalls the murder of César Mondragon and Sor Amparo... "Say, maybe instead of killing him, we should bring him to the bodega for one of my special treatments -- and after we work him over, I'll let it slip that I was there when his mother died and I was even directly involved in his father's death."

Genaro is surprised at this revelation. Olegario couldn't have been more than a kid back then. He was, he admits, but he had to start somewhere (Tenía que hacer mis pininos en algún lado). He envisions himself, somewhat grandiosely, in a war against Daniel Ponce, a war that can only end in hell -- but it is Daniel who will get there first.

LA CAPILLA DEL HOSPITAL
Dr. Mallorca arrives and Adriana is lifted onto a stretcher and rushed to the ER. "Call Abel and Rodríguez!" she manages to tell Octavio. But Octavio doesn't know who Rodríguez is, much less where to find him.

DONDE LAS MEDICINAS EN EL HOSPITAL
Carlos slips in unseen, and then stealthily unlocks a cabinet; he fills his backpack with bottles from the shelves. "This must be the dumbest thing I've ever done -- but it's for Daniel," he mutters to himself.

AFIAD
The new jefe reams out Pablo for coming in late and sends him off to the file room. From now on, his job is organizing papers.

PENTHOUSE OF PERDITION
Roxy manages to awaken Lucía with a kiss. "Don't touch me!" she mumbles. Then she sees it is the children.

OUTSIDE THE OFFICE OF DR. CARLOS
Lily, "disguised" by a brown wig and huge shades, has come to warn Elena that they are going to kill Daniel today.

AFIAD FILE ROOM
Pablo carps about being sent to shuffle papers and learns that there is no cell phone reception in the file room.

OUTSIDE THE PSYCHOLOGIST'S OFFICE
No explanations. Just this -- Lily doesn't want Daniel dead. Elena must call Pablo so he can save Daniel. Carlos comes along and Lily runs away. Elena passes on the message to Carlos and then picks up the phone...

IGNACIO'S ROOM
Chelo brings baby Victoria to visit her bisabuelo. Fernanda returns from doing some errands. She is moved by the sight of the baby in Ignacio's arms.

AFIAD
Elena has come looking for Pablo. Unfortunately, she encounters the troglodyte Enrique Vidal first. Pablo arrives in time to hear his mujer addressed by the pig as mamacita (though Elena seems none too pleased to be called Pablo's 'mujer'). When the trog walks away, Elena delivers Lily's message, explaining that she tried to call first but got no answer.

In another office, Alejandro hands Rodríguez and León some papers: all the codes and passwords they will need. "Memorize them and then destroy all the paperwork." While he is with Rodríguez and León, the judge calls and orders Daniel's transfer to the federal prison. Alejandro tries to protest -- the case hasn't even been tried -- but it's no use. R, L and A know that Daniel is being set up for slaughter.

Elena is going to tell Lucha what she knows. Pablo tells her it is important not to let Rafagario know that they know. She knows.

Rodríguez, León and Pablo hastily compare notes. In whispers, they agree they must find out the planned route of the transfer. López the Rat hovers. Does he hear them?

IGNACIO'S ROOM
Octavio finds Chelo and the baby. He tells Chelo about Adriana and asks her if she knows Rodríguez. She does, and, incorrigible metiche that she is, she tells Octavio it would be better not to look for him.

Los Miserables, miércoles, parte 2

AFIAD -- ALEJANDRO'S OFFICE
León asks to accompany Daniel when he is transferred. She fears leaving him at the mercy of infiltrados. Alejandro refuses.

OFFICE OF THE TROGLODYTE
Enrique Vidal fulminates over Pablo's insubordination. López the Rat tells him that's not the worst of it (oh crap, he DID hear!) -- Pablo, R & L know about Daniel's planned transfer and they are going to try to prevent it.

PENTHOUSE OF PERDITION
"He doped me, he knocked me out, he did ... something ... to me!" Lucha stands under the shower and scrubs and scrubs and scrubs.

OR
Dr. Mallorca tells Adriana she will have to be delivered today: her water is broken (ya rompiste la fuente) and she is having contractions. And yes, her blood pressure is high. It will have to be an operative delivery. She doesn't want to wait for her doctor. She trusts Gonzalo and asks him to go ahead, but requests that he call Abel and Evaristo. She wants both men present when the baby is born.

AFIAD -- CELL
Evaristo passes a bag to Daniel through the bars. A change of clothes, he tells him. Alejandro arrives and says the transfer is happening immediately. Daniel thinks it is a death sentence. Alejandro tells him he is sending him with his best men and assures him that not all policemen are corrupt.

AFIAD -- OFFICE OF THE TROGLODYTE
Vidal phones Olegario and reports the latest: Daniel's toadies (lambiscones) found out the transfer route so he changed it. He will send the updated route to Olegario. Olegario allows himself a self-congratulatory smirk. He knows how to pick 'em.

SOMEWHERE OUTSIDE THE POLICE STATION
Operation Save Daniel meets up. Carlos delivers the anesthesia. "Enough to knock out an elephant," he says. Pablo removes rifles from the trunk of his car, hands them to León and Rodríguez, and they begin to load them with anesthesia.

OR
Adriana is prepped and ready and the anesthesia has taken effect. Her blood pressure is 160/100. "Scalpel please," says Gonzalo calmly.

RESCUE SITE
Pablo sends Carlos home and tells Rodríguez and León to hide out of sight.

WAREHOUSE WITH ALL THE COMFORTS OF HOME
Radamés uncorks the sparkling wine. Olegario grinningly explains that Genaro has an ambush planned for Daniel, but if that doesn't work, they have some friends on the inside who will finish the job. Today, Daniel Ponce hangs up his tennies! (colgar los tenis, to die) Nuria likes what she's hearing. She nuzzles against him and takes up a glass. Lily's lack of enthusiasm is evident even to Olegario, but she dutifully picks up a glass and joins them in their toast.

PENTHOUSE OF PERDITION
Lucha stands before a mirror, brushing her hair and wondering aloud: "How could he do that to me?" And then Elena arrives with her terrible message: "They are going to kill Daniel."

OUTSIDE SOMEWHERE
Genaro sits in a car with 3 thugs. The time is approaching. They need to be ready to take down Daniel Ponce.

A patrol car precedes the prison van down the street. Daniel, wearing a t-shirt and jeans, sits inside the van with two officers, both wearing kevlar vests and both heavily armed. Daniel notices the van turning and realizes it is deviating from the planned route. He knows it's a trap and they are going to be ambushed.

"Here they come," says Genaro with more energy than we have seen from him in a long while. "I want Ponce and I want him dead!"

The police car swerves, cutting off the van. Outside, Genaro and his goons take up their positions, aiming their weapons at the van. Inside the van, the officers realize that Daniel was right. Daniel begs them to remove his handcuffs -- he can get them out of there.

Los Miserables, miércoles, parte 3

PENTHOUSE OF PERDITION
Lucha cries. If anything happens to Daniel, she'll die... He can't die!

OR
Gonzalo's hand is unsteady. "Are you okay, doctor?" someone asks. He is sweating, but so is she. He says he is fine, he just needs a moment.

WAREHOUSE WITH ALL THE COMFORTS
Liliana cautions Olegario not to get ahead of himself -- maybe he shouldn't put on the party hat until he has Daniel's body at his feet. Nuria, meanwhile, perches on Olegario's lap like a ventriloquist's dummy who, instead of speaking, gives facial expression to the ventriloquist's words. Olegario gets in a few digs at Lily, reminding her that Daniel chose Lucha over her. She retaliates by reminding him that Lucha has always chosen Daniel and rejected him. El Diablo wants Daniel dead because he is so jealous of him. Radamés doesn't want the kids to fight. He invites them to toast to Daniel's death. "Who's next?" asks Lily. "Pablo Riobueno?" Radamés thinks that's a swell idea.

Nuria reminds Lily that she wanted to kill Lucha out of jealousy. Olegario chimes in, saying that Lucha is just ... better than Liliana. She won't be baited into saying that Daniel is better than Olegario -- she wants to see Daniel dead just as much as they do! (Or so she says.)

THE AMBUSH
The officers have left Daniel in handcuffs. They try to repel the attackers, but they are outnumbered. It is only when one officer falls, that Daniel is able to take the key from the man's pocket, unlock his own handcuffs and then grab a gun and make a run for it. Then the second officer is shot down. Genaro takes a shot at Daniel. He hits him in the shoulder. "Cover me!" he orders his thugs as he sets out to deliver the kill shot...

NOT THE AMBUSH
Pablo gets the call -- the transfer route was changed! Team Daniel has been outwitted. But wait -- Pablo gets a police radio report of a shootout. "Let's go!"

THE CHASE
Even with his left shoulder wounded and bleeding, Daniel runs swiftly and gracefully. He stops, ducks behind a truck where he conveniently finds a clean white cloth and uses it to bind his left arm to stop the bleeding. Genaro continues his ungainly lope. He is red in the face and out of breath, but not out of venom. "This time, Daniel, not even God will save you."

THE DELIVERY
A vigorous baby has been delivered, but Adriana is in trouble. Oh no. Not the paddles again...

Outside the OR, the diminishing ranks of the Duran family wait anxiously. Abel runs up to join Fernanda, Chelo and Octavio. He is relieved to learn that Dr. Mallorca is the surgeon.

PENTHOUSE OF PERDITION
Elena can't reach Pablo. Lucha is on the knife edge. She tells Elena that 'Rafael' drugged her and she can't trust him. "I don't want to be with that man anymore."

THE CHASE
Genaro is heartened to find a small pool of blood where Daniel stopped to bind his arm. "You're not far, Danny."

AMBUSH SITE
Pablo, Rodríguez, León and Carlos arrive just as one wounded officer is being carried to the ambulance. He tells them that Daniel escaped. They are relieved -- it won't be easy for the bad guys to catch the boss. Daniel is sure to contact them.

THE OPERATING TABLE
Gracias a Dios, Adriana's condition has stabilized! Dr. Mallorca doesn't look so hot, though. He asks someone else to finish suturing.

Los Miserables, miércoles, parte 4

THE CHASE
Genaro's clumsy progress is interrupted by a phone call. "Did you kill him?" asks his caller, the Diablo himself. "No, he escaped -- but don't worry, he's wounded. I'm on his trail and I'm sure I'll find his body." Más te vale, desgraciado growls el Diablo. Once more, Genaro takes up his tired, clumsy pursuit. Once he is gone, Daniel emerges from the doorway where he has been hiding, and he starts running in the opposite direction.

WAREHOUSE WITH ALL THE COMFORTS
The Diablo is a little testy after his chat with Genaro. "That's what you get for celebrating prematurely," says Lily smugly. He gets even more furious and threatens her. Radamés reminds him that Lily is not the enemy. "At this point," says the Devil, "it's not who owes me but who is going to pay me!" Huh? Radamés shakes head.

OUTSIDE THE OPERATING ROOM
Dr. Mallorca gives everyone the good news. Fernanda, the only one out of the loop about the kid's paternity, bubbles about how happy Ignacio is going to be.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME? DON'T WE HAVE ENOUGH TSURIS?
Mallorca heads back to his office and picks up a framed photo of a bearded young man and a small boy. He says with a rueful smile: "Me too, dad? Seriously, me too?" He flexes his fingers and massages his wrist.

Abel bursts into the office. Why did Gonzalo have that odd expression when he came out of the OR? Is there something wrong with Adri or the baby? "Listen, not everything is about you two." Abel is stung. He really thought it was. He wants to know what's eating Gonzalo. But the doctor says he is just very tired. He needs to rest.

HOSPITAL CAFETERIA
Neno catches sight of Deya stuffing her face. He sits down with her and pours out his feelings. He wants to be with her, he wants something serious with her. She has news to share with him: she is expecting Carlos's baby.

THE WAREHOUSE OF LITTLE COMFORT
The Prodigal Policia has returned and now must explain to daddy Diablo how Daniel managed to elude their master plan. Genaro tells him how it happened. Diablo thunders at him and wants him OUT! But Liliana steps forward and advocates on Genaro's behalf. Does Diablo really want to lose the only one with the brains to find Daniel?

ADRIANA'S ROOM
Adri wakes up and sees Abel and Octavio smiling at her. How does she feel? Aturdida, muy aturdida (shocked, stunned), she says, but she is fine. She is relieved to learn that her baby is healthy. When Octavio says he was unable to find Evaristo, she asks Abel to call him. He agrees, though reluctantly.

Los Miserables, miércoles, parte 5

AFIAD
León and Rodríguez bicker about how to explain their lengthy absence to Alejandro. Then Rodríguez gets Abel's call. Adriana had a boy! Woohoo! León looks on sourly.

All the officers stare at Pablo when he returns to the station. They know that the new boss has it in for him. Right on cue, Vidal and his boot-licker López emerge from the inner office. "Weekend duty until you die," says Vidal, and "three days of arrest that will be a black mark on your permanent record card. "Why don't you just shut it," says Pablo dismissively, and he starts to walk away. "Arrest him!" Vidal orders López. "Touch me and you die." López looks uncertain, but Vidal eggs him on. López follows Pablo through the office.

HOSPITAL
Evaristo grins broadly at the baby on the other side of the nursery window. Buzz-kill Fernanda comes along. "You again?" she says. "I don't want you anywhere near my grandson." Evaristo sets her straight. He is the child's father, he tells her. Before she can argue, Abel arrives and backs up Evaristo. "The baby may be his biological child," says Fernanda, "but Adriana is with you, Abel." Abel repeats that Evaristo is the child's father and has every right to see him.

Abel asks for a moment alone with his mother, so Evaristo obligingly steps away. Abel thinks it's time for Fernanda to listen to the truth about him, but she doesn't want to hear it. She asks him to think of how his father would feel if he knew the baby wasn't his grandson and if he knew his son was married to a whore -- she tricked him, took advantage of his naivete... Fernanda is working herself up into a state. (Is it so wrong of me to hope she bites her tongue, ingests her own venom and dies? Well, okay, then. How about if she just gets very sick?)

End of Episode.

Los Miserables

Thanks for a great recap NovelaMaven.

I loved this “Nuria, meanwhile, perches on Olegario's lap like a ventriloquist's dummy.”

Operation bust-daniel-out-a-jail was a bust. But Daniel still escaped and they didn't have to do anything too illegal.

Thank you, NvMv, for an excellent recap! Likewise to Aficionada for yesterday's recap!

Can explain why Pablo was arrested for 3 days? I must have missed something there.

I LOVE Tierra. I can't believe more people aren't com-
menting on it. It's getting so good, even if ridiculous
in spots. Would love brief recaps.

NovelaMaven

Thank you for your usual fine recap. "She sat on his lap
like a ventriloquist's dummy" may be your best ever,

LOS MIZ
NvMv Thank you for an elegant, subtle and entertaining recap of last night's misadventures. A complete delight! So many gems to choose from:

That "incorrigible metiche", yeah, Chelo's got a Chip the size of the Grand Canyon, I'm afraid.

Thanks for: "hangs up his tennies! (colgar los tenis)

Nuria's ventriloquist dummy's facial expressions are very entertaining. Thanks for that image; and Genaro's "ungainly lope" in pursuit of the swift & graceful Daniel.

Your description of this cabal of dangerous clowns, in their disgusting hideaway, celebrating prematurely, was quite resonant. I like how it interwove as all the other drama moved forward. The Radames character is earning his keep in this role.

I'm scared for the good doc. Looks like some serious inherited neuro-muscular condition. Of course Abel thnks only of himself.

Looks like Deya's started eating for two.

And Aficionada All your comments yesterday were positively spot-on. You make such insightfully hilarious contributions: "FIND SOME DIGNITY!"—Indeed!

I'm still willing to recap tonight if someone else needs Friday ( but I would prefer Friday if at all possible). I'm stepping out to pick up my assignment, so will be busy the rest of the day. Just drop a note about who wants to do what before tonight's show starts.

Los Mis

El Señor EC, thank you! I'm guessing this is telenovela logic since I've never heard of police officers being arrested for such a thing. I guess credit goes to the actor who plays Vidal because the character really gets on my nerves (lol). He and Diablo are cut from the same cloth...arrogant, domineering and self-centered.

Evaristo and Marisela may have it out soon after what she did, leaving her more vulnerable to Vidal.

And I hope Carlos doesn't pay the price for stealing the meds. The actor that plays him is one of my favorites and I hope he's around to the finale.

LOS MIS

Thank you for your kind words, amigos!

Aficionada, it's fun when a recap is received and read immediately, like an anxiously anticipated letter. Thank you for your kindness and enthusiasm, not to mention your astuteness. "Creepy for a bedtime story." Hah!

El Señor EC
"Operation bust-daniel-out-a-jail was a bust. But Daniel still escaped and they didn't have to do anything too illegal."

Yes! Of course Carlos DID steal hospital drugs, but if nobody saw him, it didn't happen, right? And Operation bust-Daniel was also a bust. In fact, the overarching lesson of the novela may be that "Life is what happens while you are making other plans." After all, we watched Vicky visiting Adriana for months, the former blooming, the latter languishing; yet in the end, Vicky is gone and Adriana and her baby are, improbably, in the pink within hours of a very scary delivery.

Spanish Student I see that El Señor has already answered your question about Pablo's arrest. It seems to me I've seen this before -- it's not exactly a prison sentence, more like a military detention or a stinging slap on the wrist.

I just read your comment about Carlos, and like you, I also hope he doesn't get caught. (I like Carlos best precisely when he is willing to bend or, as in this case, break the rules.)

Anon 9:19, You're very welcome! Glad you enjoyed it!

LVX Eres un sol. Gracias.

I'm also scared for the good doc. Even if his diagnosis is less than ghastly (though I wouldn't count on it), a hand tremor doesn't bode well for a surgical career. The Duran family had better stay healthy.

It's fun writing about the dangerous clowns (just as it is probably fun playing the dangerous clowns). I hope I didn't go overboard in the detail at the beginning. Maybe what Olegario was saying about his history with the Ponce/Mondragon family was already known to the viewer, but it was new to me (or if I knew it, I had forgotten it), and I was fascinated -- It really underlined how Olegario has been hell-bent on destroying and/or coopting everything in Daniel's life for many years. Even before Lucía came along, this hatred of one man for the other was very personal and particular.

Confession: At one point, I almost felt sorry for lumbering, out-of-shape Genaro on his jog through the city as he gradually realizes he has, once again, been outfoxed.

DUEÑOS, Miércoles

I apologize if this is out of order, and corrections and additions are always welcome.

This show continues to get slowly more and more twisted. We’re sort of running out of people to root for, although it is fascinating to watch the downward spirals. I’m not predicting any happy endings.

Leandro is feeling pretty good, he’s even putting the moves on the attractive doctor, who asks him how he got those gunshots. Leandro says it was a home invasion, robbers shot him, the doc says just tell the police the same story. And she’s available for anything he needs. (Doc, don’t get sucked into his world!)

Since the sexy approach didn’t work for Iggy, he tries something else. Will you marry me? he asks Paola. The answer is no. But why? Well, you dress poorly, you just have no class. Later, her Dad says she SHOULD marry Iggy, in this druglord life, forget marrying for love, you just marry to help the business. Paola’s not so sure, and goes shopping to take her mind off it. She’s trying on a low cut dress, thinks it’s too sexy for her, but a nearby woman looks on, says it looks great on you. Hi, I’m Marina, and I’m a fashion designer. I could give you some tips. (I’m not sure, but is this Police Officer Rita Corona in disguise, working undercover?) I think so.

Verónica thinks over whether she should turn Adán into the cops. Érica says no way, but Vero isn’t listening to Érica much these days. Vero even asks Érica how all the drug business works, but Érica says she doesn’t know anything, she and Conrado never discuss that.

Even after sex with Analia, Alejo isn’t convinced she still loves him, but she continues to try to convince him.

Érica still wonders where Conrado spent the night. He says it was with at Alejo’s house, so Érica calls Analia, who lies and says yep, he was here. Now that she knows her boy is faithful, she and Conrado can make up, and they have some sweet sex. But after she leaves, he finds the envelope with the promo pictures from her film, and goes nuts! He rips up the pictures, and goes to get drunk, where he runs into Sául, who tells him they’re going to meet tomorrow, he has some news.

DUEÑOS, Part 2

Out on the highway, Renato drives along, Gina covered with the blanket, woozy in the back seat. She wakes up, asks where they’re going, he tells her to shut up, even hits her to shut her up. They stop at a gas station. The attendant says to Renato, not many people come out here, where’re you going? Renato says mum, and there’s a little noise from inside the car, as Regina starts kicking. The attendant strides purposely off into the station, gets a shotgun and shoots at Renato. But Renato is too fast. He dodges, out maneuvers the attendant, and KILLS him with a shot to the head (which we didn’t really see, but you could tell). I guess he’ll now continue to Devil’s Cove, or whatever that place was. It doesn’t look good for Gina.

Anas isn’t that happy either. She does have the little baby, and hugs and cuddles him, drifting off to sleep on the bed, with a few more or her flashbacks. Irene comes in, says what Anas is doing has no justification, but Anas throws back her usual insults about how Irene caused all of this, trying to whore out her own daughter.

Later, Modesta comes in, and she tries to cheer up Anas, saying you’ve always been my little girl, but now you’re a woman. And you always wanted a child, now you’ve got one! Anas isn’t so sure, says she’s defective, she could never give Nat a child, she could never give any man a child, there’s no hope for her. Modesta tells her she doesn’t need men. From now on, the only man in her life with be that little baby boy there (who doesn’t have a name yet, btw).

Érica finds out that Conrado saw the pictures. She tries to assure him it’s not what he thinks, but he says what is it? You were totally nude in those pictures? Have you even seen the final film? Well, no. Then you’d better! She goes to Sergio’s office, and demands to see the film. He gives her a few excuses, finally agrees that she can come to a special screening they’re having that night for industry bigwigs. He really didn’t want to ruin the surprise, but if she wants to see it, this is her chance. Uh oh.

It’s a new day, Anas is happy, when Elias shows up. What happened to Gina? Well, she had the baby and the baby is fine, but Gina.........disappeared. She just disappeared from the hospital. You know she never wanted the baby, right? Well, we looked for her, and sorry, can’t find her. So forget about her. Elias is incredulous. What??? Well, then where is the baby? Ooooooops.

NovelaMaven, what a great recap! Thank you for such detail!!

"Lily, 'disguised' by a brown wig and huge shades …. " What a character, ah? Depends more on what she is wearing, really, whether anyone would recognize her.

"PENTHOUSE OF PERDITION" Exactly! I FEEL that whenever I see them there!

"the troglodyte Enrique Vidal" Just the description I was reaching for!

“Nuria, meanwhile, perches on Olegario's lap like a ventriloquist's dummy.” LOL! Perfect!!

Oh no! ¡Pobre Doctor Mallorca! "DON'T WE HAVE ENOUGH TSURIS?" Yes!

Wow, Abel finds some integrity, at last. Good for him.

Thank you, Spanish student! "Can explain why Pablo was arrested for 3 days? I must have missed something there." I still don't get it, either. But, who does one appeal to in that position? The police? GRRRR!

El Señor EC, thank you for adding some on that!

lxv, thank you so much!!
"Your description of this cabal of dangerous clowns, in their disgusting hideaway, celebrating prematurely, was quite resonant. I like how it interwove as all the other drama moved forward." Yes!! " … cabal of dangerous clowns" mmmh!

lxv, about tonight's show recap: if no one else can do it, I will do a bullet point/outline - lol - of it tomorrow. I will check back here before the show to find out if anyone has said they will do it.

spanish student, I had this same thought: "And I hope Carlos doesn't pay the price for stealing the meds. The actor that plays him is one of my favorites and I hope he's around to the finale." Me too.

NvMv, thank you for your sweet words to me! That means a LOT to me!
"In fact, the overarching lesson of the novela may be that 'Life is what happens while you are making other plans.' After all, we watched Vicky visiting Adriana for months, the former blooming, the latter languishing; yet in the end, Vicky is gone and Adriana and her baby are, improbably, in the pink within hours of a very scary delivery." So well said!

"The Duran family had better stay healthy." LOL, Yes!

"(just as it is probably fun playing the dangerous clowns)" I bet it IS!

I was surprised by Olegario's "history with the Ponce/Mondragon family," too. I had wondered, early on in the tn, because of something now evading me that Daniel had said. ?? lost memory, oy. Anyone know more about it?

¡Buen dia a todos!

TIERRA

This show is such a hoot. Flavio crashing the wedding was awesomely hilarious. Irina did a great job of flinging herself onto the horse in that giant poofy dress. She made it look easy.

Cayetana is so ridiculous. She makes a big scene in the village street and accuses Irina of humiliating her? No, you do a great job of humiliating yourself, Cayetana. Anything your daughters do adds only an imperceptible dent to the pit you dig for yourself. And really, Cayetana, has it not occurred to you that the wedding guests were already whispering amongst themselves, most certainly, wondering why Irina was marrying a man who is obviously gay?

How are all these people letting Cayetana keep Irina locked in the basement? She's an adult! I know Leo and the henchies are evil, but now would be a good time for Andrea to stop being cowed by her mad cow mama. Or Soledad. Or Grandpa. How has HE not called the comandante and gotten him to come release the hostage?

I was really really hoping that Patricia would stay gone and live happily ever after, or unhappily, who cares, with the producer who turned out to be a creep. Darn.

Sofia and Arturo are so boring. They even have dramatic car accidents and nearly die boringly. And why won't he just tell her already that he had a sister who died who looked just like Veronica? Will they ever reveal any secrets?

I hated Veronica at first but she is turning out to be a legit Voice of Reason. Now can she go get Irina out of the basement and talk some sense into Andrea? And shove Leo in the well?

Leo and Cayetana nearly made me barf, and yet I am cheering for them to hook up ASAP in case it might distract them and keep them out of everyone's hair for awhile.

Julia

Great to see your comment.I also was wondering about the legality of keeping an adult woman locked up. Thought maybe she was underage. I so wanted Irina to
fight back. I also wanted Pat to stay gone and also
have become very fond of Vero after initially thinking
she was a snobish brat. At times Leo looks like the devil
incarnate, hate him. The actor's doing a good job because I've liked him in other novelas.

Dueños

thanks a million Hombre!
so many twists and turns here it's hard to get things straight.

and the comedy of it all,
Iggy's romantic dinner, without any food, and his proposal, without a ring,
I guess he had a feeling about how this would go.

and Saul pulling up a stool next to Conrado,
what are you doing here, Conrado asks,
this bar is where all the cops hang out, look around, Saul says,
wakes Conrado right up,
just joking Saul says.

Anas sorrows don't seem to include the fact that Modesta took a bullet in the eye.

hmm, I don't think Renato hit Gina, just ran off the road to bounce her around a bit, but this guy is definitely not happy, I thought the gas station guy was a bit quick to grab that shotgun and start shooting, and quite sporting of Renato to let him reload, did Gina smile when she heard the gun shots and all got quiet, I'm curious to see what's at the end of the road.

Dueños

Hombre, thanks so much. Great job on the recap!

The woman who was suspiciously friendly with Paola was not Officer Corona. I've seen that woman in other novelas, and she often plays a madam or a middle aged woman chasing a much younger man. I don't know what her game is. It's possible Ferrara found someone to infiltrate that we haven't seen before.

I HATE Sergio. And I really like Érica. Conrado is going to blame her for the whole thing and perhaps throw her out. The ideal thing would be for Conrado to see the film and beat Sergio to a pulp!

I don't think Anastasia is really cut out for motherhood. Having the baby didn't do much to soothe her psychic wounds. And someone else (Modesta) is likely going to be doing the day-to-day care.

Wow, they're turning Vero into a self-righteous prig. She's actually considering turning her husband in. And she isn't intuitive enough to figure out "David" is up to something. I'm surprised he hasn't tried to drug her again. I guess the writers want him to continue to manipulate her. And his having sex with her would probably finish that off!

I knew Elias was going to be a problem. They're going to have to tell him about the baby.

I can't believe myself sometimes - rooting for the bad guys! I was mad at Gina for kicking inside the trunk. And, of course, Renato knew immediately that that guy was trouble when he rushed inside the filling station. And the writers made Renato not such a bad guy as he didn't kill the guy unprovoked.

the Miserables,

loved your recap NovelaMaven!
you have an amazing talent at making things come alive.

TIERRAS

Irina has said several times that she is "mayor de edad" and can make her own decisions, so her mother has no legal authority over her. Cayetana just has her daughters terrified to defy her after a lifetime of abuse and manipulation. How their grandfather stands idly by, I've no idea. I am losing respect for him by the minute.

When I first started watching, I thought Leo was tremendously guapo, but he's doing such a great job as a creepy slimeball jerk that I now hate him and can't stand to look at him. Excellent acting!

I want Irina to figure out how to escape and rescue herself instead of sitting around playing damsel in distress waiting for someone else to do it. She survived being held captive in a cabin, escaped that, spent the night in the open, was bitten by a snake, and still made it through. It's time she realized her own abilities.

I can't feel terribly sorry for Dario because he just wanted Irina to sacrifice her own happiness for money. Get a job and strike out on your own already, dude.

TIERRAS

I can't wait for Andrea to finally give in and get with Samuel so Cayetana's head will explode. Any chance the Gallardos have an older auntie who could date Grandpa? Because it would be SUPER AWESOME if Cowetana's husband, three daughters, capataz, head housekeeper, father, and livestock all fell in love with Gallardos and their relatives. And maybe Leo too, after he's had a turn with Cayetana? Maybe the boys have an evil cousin who could lure him in and then throw him in the well?

DUEÑOS:

Thanks for the corrections, Novelera and Deb. Yes, I am intrigued about Marina.

I actually have a different take on Vero. We're all so caught up in Anas's world, I'm not sure we're thinking what it would be like in real life, such as in our own lives. I think a real life woman, who has no criminal record, in finding out her husband is a drug dealer, SHOULD turn him in. Sorry! Maybe she can move to another city or back to Mexico, and restart her life. I know, Adán is nice, she loves him, but as harsh as it is, I can't be the one to say, just accept it, enjoy the money, hope you don't get killed. And I'm a former hippie, I guess I'm really square these days.

DUENOS:

And I don't mean just someone selling a few drugs on the side, Adan is dealing in millions of dollars, and people are getting KILLED right and left!

Duenos: I can't believe Anas expects Elias to swallow that story and if he does then he's too dumb to live. How are they going to explain the baby? Gina needs to die. Are they just dumping her somewhere? No bueno. I am taking a perverse sense of joy waiting for Vero to find out who David is, yes I am evil but I want her to eat her crow, sanctimonious much? If Vero calls to denounce Adan let's hope dirty cop Saul picks up.
Tiera" May my deceased mother in heaven forgive me but I would have hit Cayetana back(sacrilegious I know)I was livid. Irina needs to press charges against her. The police guy let the gang, armed in his own words, go looking for Flavio? Last, thanks for the recaps.

I love the back and forth today! Hombre, you are right, of course, that finding oneself in the middle of narcotrafficking when you are a good and honest person would be intolerable.

And, Romy, I am with you on your point as well! I doubt it will happen soon, but I'd like to see Vero find out that "David" is an assassin and a rapist for a cartel trying to finish off her husband if they get the chance!

Los Mis

LXV and Aficionada re tonight's recap

It sounds as if it would be fairly inconvenient for both of you. I can easily do it (and just as easily step back, if someone else would like a shot at it). So unless an enthusiastic volunteer steps up before showtime, I'm it. Okay?

As for Friday, you are on your own :)

Aficionada, I really enjoyed your recent comment. I was especially struck by your taking notice that "Abel finds some integrity, at last. Good for him." Yes, and maybe he will get his turn to be someone's "pillar of strength" when the good doctor is diagnosed with his ghastly neurodegenerative disease.

deb, Aw shucks. You always manage to make me blush. :)

Los Mis

Aficionada, I also think the connection between Olegario and the murder of Daniel's parents, particularly his mother, was mentioned in the beginning. By bringing it up again, with such pride in his killings, it's easy to see that Diablo's suffering is inevitable. This is a guy who threatens to murder his "team" every day so he clearly needs to be stopped.

Thanks again El Señor EC and NvMv for clarifying Pablo's arrest. I completely forgot that this happens in the military.

Now that I've had a chance to think about it, the hospital seems to have very few surveillance resources, so Carlos' theft may not be discovered. As usual my mind was full of possible consequences and scenarios.

I laughed when Genaro said "This time, Daniel, not even God will save you." An empty threat considering at that very moment Daniel was being saved from the assassination attempt.

Has Deya been with her "boyfriend"? In other words, is Carlos the only potential father?

Aficionada & NvMv re tonight's recap: Thanks so much NvMv for stepping up to the plate so graciously—I'm bowing out for tonight, but look forward to recapping Friday night & Monday night as usual.

spanish student: "Has Deya been with her "boyfriend"? In other words, is Carlos the only potential father?" I wondered that as well.

Dueños
Thanks, Hombre. Yep, we're certainly running out of people to root for.

I'm sticking with Renato though. The gas station attendant forced his hand. Scratching my head about why the attendant was so quick to want to shoot Renato. Why not get the license plate and call the cops if he thought something bad was happening? Maybe he got Renato mixed up with somebody else or is one of LQ’s men? Guess I'm thinking it too much.

I'm disappointed in Conrado. Surely he already knew Erica was going to be nude. If/when they show the film with all the, ahem, inserts, and he doesn't recognize that those are not Erica's parts, I'll be very disappointed in him. I am hoping for some Sergio a$$whupping.

Vero is certainly a pain right now, but she doesn't want anything bad to happen to her family. She said at some point (to Iggy? Erica?) that Adán had been snookered into the biz. I think she thinks she might be protecting him (and Lu and her) from getting murdered by going to the cops for protection. I never know what's going to happen, but I'm betting in the end that she's not stupid enough to blow the whistle on Adán.

LOS MIZ re Carlos & the purloined drugs: there was a time, long ago & faraway, when I was a nurse. The medicine cabinet had keys, but in general, drugs weren't locked up as tightly as they are today. Misericordia Hospital is so quaint it actually resembles the one where I did my training. Back then, things like Valium were not even counted. Anyone with the key could just go in, pour a handful out of the bottle and nobody would be the wiser. In a modern hospital, I doubt Carlos could even get close to the medicine cabinet (or cart) without having to fight his way through all kinds of security mechanisms. Drugs come up from the pharmacy in bar-coded single-dose packaging these days and heads would roll if the count was wrong at change of shift.

the Miserables

ignore the clothes and history, Deyanira is a good girl, there was a time that she brought Neno home after a date and... but she started picturing Carlos, and broke it off.

I think that's what hurt him the most about the news of the pregnancy, he knew it wasn't him.

Los Mis

LXV, your description of the control of drugs in hospitals is exactly how i first imagined it. Drugs are big business now and a large quantity (he took several bottles) would certainly be noticed. Hopefully there won't be an urgent need for it, otherwise heads may roll. Interesting that he did it in the same episode where he discussed his high ambitions and how someone like Deya wouldn't fit in his world.

spanish student

LOS MIZ
deb you're right; Deya is a good girl. Thanks for reminding us of that scene where she put Neno off because he wasn't Carlos. And when the undeserving Carlos finally realizes how honorable she actually is, he may be a bit embarrassed at his callow, shallow judgement. I don't think she was a prostitute because she wanted to be, but Carlos seems determined to escape his lower class upbringing and isn't experienced enough to allow a more inclusive viewpoint. (I was going to say "broader" viewpoint, but stopped myself.)

Dueños
Great recap, as always, Hombre. Many thanks.

It sure seems likely that the woman in the clothing store isn't who she claims to be (not that I know who she really is). I wonder whether Paola will be clever enough to figure that out.

I'd love to see Vero eat crow about "David," but I detest Iggy and don't want him to succeed in anything he attempts. As you said, the number of people left to root for is pitifully small. Maybe Renato. Maybe Erica. Maybe even Adán?

Los Mis

Deb, just saw your comment and confirmation that Carlos is indeed the father (i heard the voices of many daytime paternity judges when i wrote that). lol

Yes, Deya is essentially a good girl. She’s loyal, supportive, and trustworthy. However, with men she’s complex, manipulative, and demanding. In Carlos' defense, it's very hard for all but the most enlightened men to see suggestive clothing, a history of prostitution, lots of sex and think “marriage material”. Of course it does happen (Vicky’s father and Nuria). Carlos has aspirations so he may have pictured himself with someone on his level. I'm certain they'll be a meeting of the minds by the end of the tn. When is that by the way?

spanish student

LOS MIZ
Thanks, spanish student
, for asking THE question on everybody's mind: "by the end of the tn. When is that by the way?"

Other than March, we haven't been told a thing. March when? I'm not exactly complaining, because this show far exceeds expectations, and I'm lovin' every minute, but..

Tierra
"Cowetana " was hilarious and apt. I was starting to sympathize with her a little but then she showed her rump roast last night.

I really enjoy this show.

Los Mis

NovelaMaven, thank you so much for offering to do the recap of tonight's show! Not JUST because you do such complete and delightful recaps, I am taking you up on that generous offer.

more posting and running ... despite there being so many new comments here already :D!

Hasta luego, all!

Romy
I had the same thought about hitting Cayetana back.
Shame on me! I thought Sonya Smith did an amazing
job in that scene however.
Julia
I agree about Andrea and Samuel getting together soon to further irk Caye, but I hadn't thought of extending it to the servants, etc. Good idea. A point of disagreement, I love Sophia and Arturo. To me, she's absolutely lovely, and he's muy handsome.

TIERRA

I thought the scene in which Cayetana hit Irina and made her apologize was well done. You could see the struggle in Irina. She wanted to stand up to her mother, but in the end was too afraid. Fairly typical abuse victim behavior. Not that giving in did her any good. I wonder what Cayetana would have done if she had refused to apologize. Probably exactly the same thing.

I have always thought Aaron Diaz is muy muy guapo, but I find him so monotone in this role. Sofia does have a little more life to her and the actress is lovely, but they spend too much time making schmoopy eyes at each other and not enough time doing anything fun or compelling to watch. Although I did get a good laugh out of the baking scene in the time passing montage. At least it was less gross than the same scene in Fuego en la Sangre!

Duenos

Guess I was wrong about Renato maybe changing. Bad luck for the gas station guy, and bad luck for Gina. I'm still pulling for her though.

But I don't think Paola will catch on if that woman is really a cop. She so desperately needs a friend. A non-rapist friend, that is.

Tierra de Reyes
this is fore Anon and anyone else who wants recaps
this is not me volunteering to recap regularly because El Senor knows I am in no way, shape or form reliable enough for that.
this is just becaus I have loved this week and want to share\
The Week so far (up to Wed) (according to my faulty memory and limited Spanish)
(events not necessarily in order)
Sophia and Arturo, after facing her family and declaring their love for each other and the paternity of the expected baby, are driving home from Sophia's new job as Nina's new, much more reliable, vet.(99.99% less likely to poison the cattle) Aturo and the boys don't seem to want to accept the permanent jobs nina keeps offering them and I don't understand why, but they're still working on the well to bring safe clean water to the cattle. So, they're driving along in unwedded bliss when suddenly the brakes stop working and Arturo has to crash inot a bale of hay. He's fine but Sophia won't wake up and he's frantic. Later in the hospital she starts bleeding and there is some anxiety over her possibly losing the baby.
Meanwhile plans for Irina's wedding are proceeding apace and Flavio is still trying to convince her to run away with him, finally he does (the plan for the three of them to live together in Dario's place was crazy) the night before the wedding, but her house is a busy place at night and she has to hide behind the couch as Andrea and Soledad walk through the door and hear a suspicious noise and go to investigate, mere feet from Irina's hiding place!
Pati is ecstatic about her big shot at fame with this new agent/producer guy after foiling ex-boyfriend guy (sorry his name eludes me, does it start w/a V?) in his plot to keep her in the Palenque Night forever by smearing her name to agent/producer guy. She's so excited about her new record deal and tour and recording in LA that she leaves Sam w/o much of a thought, much to his dismay. Her excitement lasts right up until new agent/producer guy tries to rape her in her LA hotel room, but she coshed him on the head with a nondescript blunt object and assumes he is dead. She calls Sam for help and emotional support, but he doesn't answere because he is at the hospital w/his bro and Sophia. So she calles her ex, because of all the people she knows, he is the most likely to know what to do with a dead body. He tells her to get out of there now and he will help her. (hey can Pati be a villain if bad stuff keeps happening to her?)
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, nobody but Pablo knows lo de Sophia and the coast is clear for Irina to escape. She whisper calls Flavio to let him know she got held up and she's on ther way out the front door w/her little wheeled suitcase, when who should appear on the stairs but Cayetana. (doom doom dooomm) Irina makes up some lame excuses for why she's no her way ou with her suitcase in the middle of the night before her wedding, and Cayetana decides all of a sudden to stay with her baby all night and "spoil" her, since its the last chance she'll get. (Tough beans Flavio, you'll have to queda con las ganas)

Tierra de Reyes
After a night in the hospital with Arturo at her side Sophia will not lose the baby!(yay!) Leo heads to the hospital before the wedding he has been insistently invited to by Cayetana to threaten Sophia with the promise of always being in her life then arrives at the wedding just in time to hear Cayetana say he promised he would be there and tell her he always keeps his promises (so creepy it gave me shivers)
And the wedding of the century is underway: Dario is waiting in the garden and Irina is in her pretty white dress looking so lonsome she could cry in spite of being surrounded by people. The words are being spoken under the flowery bower when -Oh Wow- Flavio rides up on a horse and shouts Irina's name, like in some romantic dream! She ignores the novio, shoves the boquet at her mom and runs to Flavio, rucks up her huge skirt, and climbs on the back of the horse, and they ride off into the sunrise together; two wild and crazy kids in love. And then back down to earth with pobre Dario who is terrified of being a laughingstock and so afraid of public opinion I wonder if he will ever come out.
After fleeing Nina's, thinking, rightly, that's the first place Cayetana will look for them, Flavio and Irina head off to the beautiful and secluded woods for some impractical lovemaking near a breathtaking waterfall. (not even a blanket) Much later they head to Flavio's place and are caught by Cayetana, Leo and a passel of ranch hands. Cayetana drags Irina home by the hair, and proceedes to hit and humiliate her trying to get some of her own back, because really Cayetana is more embarrased than hurt, she's as scared of what people think of her as Dario. Irina bravely stands by her man (finally) and everybody else just stands by as Cayetanna goes on to trample her daughter's human rights, locking her in the basement.
On the Pati front, the agent isn't dead (yay?) so Pati doesn't have to flee to Mexico. I expected ex-boyfriend guy to hold this info back for some reason, but he doesn't. It looks like Pati may be getting back with the ex since they shared a deep kiss and were caught by Sam.
Finally I bet you thought I forgot Nina. I didn't. Nina heads to London for a special new medical treatment, since the meds she's being given the wrong dosages of are only making her worse. For some reason she takes the treacherous "help" along with her and while she's unconscious they poison her. Is Nina, who already changed her will, really dead? I don't know I missed that part.

Sneaky Two Shoes
Wow! What a wonderful surprise, far exceeding what I had hoped for. I don't speak Spanish, but I can follow the general outline of the story. However, I miss MANY important details which drives me crazy since I love this one so much. You filled in a lot for me. Thank you SO MUCH. Do you happen to know the relationship of the brothers to the family of the character played by Sol?I'm not sure if they're friends or relatives. Again, thank you for all your time and effort.

Los Miserables, jueves, parte 1

DAMN. IT WAS ONLY A PANIC ATTACK.
Fernanda sits across the desk from Dr. Mallorca in his office. He reassures her -- a panic attack is not surprising, given all the stress she's been under lately -- and suggests a little visit to Dr. Gallardo (that's Carlos to his friends). Does he think she's crazy? Well she's not -- she's just a poor woman whom life has disappointed. "You know what, Gonzalo? Don't have children -- it's better to live and die alone, with nothing to regret." Abel looks away. Dr. Mallorca looks ... too weary for this.

DUSK IN THE PENTHOUSE OF PERDITION
Elena gets an update from Pablo. She reports to Lucía that Daniel has escaped, but that he has been wounded. Lucía gets all weepy, but Elena won't let her get too soggy. She reminds her of the 'Rafael' problem. What is Lucía going to do? She's going to pack up and leave with the kids. Good. Elena has to pick up Nachito, but she'll come back for Lucha and the kids.

WHAT ARE WE GOING TO CALL HIM?
Chelo is visiting with Adriana. Such a beautiful baby --and big for an eight-month-old... do you have a name picked out? Evaristo walks in and joins the conversation. It turns out he has been wondering about names too. "What are we going to call him?" But Adri has it figured out. She introduces Evaristo to Chelo as Santiago's father -- does he like the name 'Santiago'? He does. "It's sure beats Evaristo," he says with a smile.

Chelo withdraws with surprising tact. Alone with Evaristo, Adriana tells him how happy and relieved she is that the baby is well, that she is alive, and that their truth is in the open. Then she cuts to the chase: "Are you in love with me?"

DR. MALLORCA'S CONSULTORIO
The good doctor prescribes some mild anxiety pills for Fernanda and once again tries to reassure her: she is as strong as an oak. "You must mean the oak coffin they'll bury me in." Abel raises his eyes to heaven. She may put on a brave face, (la procesión la llevo por dentro) she tells Gonzalo, but the blows of life are going to end up killing her [if this recapper doesn't get to her first]. When she leaves, Gonzalo asks if she knows. "About the baby, but not about us. I tried to tell her, but she wouldn't let me." Gonzalo thinks that's for the best -- Fernanda isn't ready to hear it. He's been through this with his own parents. He's sure that when the moment is right, Abel's mother and father will end up accepting his truth.

Then Gonzalo excuses himself -- he has some work to do. When Abel leaves, Gonzalo rubs his wrist.

BEDSIDE CONSULTATION -- IS IT LOVE?
Evaristo answers honestly. He cares for Adri and sometimes he thinks he is falling in love with her, but he has feelings for Marisela too. He's confused. So is Adriana. They shared a passionate night, but they are very different people. Could they really share a life together? The truth is, they don't know each other very well. Evaristo is sure of one thing -- he is going to be a good father to Santiago. He kisses Adri on the cheek ... just as Abel enters the room.

Los Miserables, jueves, parte 2

CASA DEL LOCO DE RADAMÉS: SORE WINNER
"Checkmate! Think before you move your pieces, Nacho!" Radamés scolds his son for his lack of skill at the chessboard while the social worker looks on silently and disapprovingly. "It's a game for strategists, not fools!" Lovely Elena enters with her sweet smile. Nacho runs to her open arms. Radamés launches a churlish, insulting rant against her, and the social worker warns him that if he continues, she'll have to recommend that the judge suspend his visiting rights with the child. She accompanies Elena and Nacho to the door.

MOVING DAY AT THE PENTHOUSE OF PERDITION
Memín is a little cranky about having to move. Roxy reminds him that Rafael almost smacked him the other day. While they are sorting it out, Lucía gets a call from Daniel: he is badly hurt and he needs her help; he asks her to come and get him...

SHIFT CHANGE
Evaristo takes his leave, promising to come back later to see Adri and Santiago. "Santiago?" says Abel, now alone with Adri. "That's the name we picked together." Adri tells him he can use the name for his first-born -- and no, she's not making fun of him. He teases her about the "policía" -- it's a good thing the kid doesn't look like him! And that name of his! Evaristo! Hah!

ASSIGNATION IN THE PARK
Lucha finds Daniel huddled in the bushes. She wants to take him to a hospital. He says that's not possible: the police are after him and so are Olegario's men. What about Dr. Carlos? No, they know he's a friend and they would find him. She leads him to her car, the one her husband lets her use.

DEYA'S PLACE
Nachito doesn't want to play with "those nacos." "Why are you such a stuck-up snob?" (fresa presumida) retorts Memín, ready to duke it out. Deya and Elena scold the boys and then send the kids to play (or maul each other) so they can talk privately. Roxy has been around the telenovela block a time or two, so she lingers and eavesdrops. She hears Elena telling Deya about Dan's escape and his call to Lucha. Elena makes one thing clear: Rafael must not know that the kids are with Deya. Deya is confused -- the kids love him! "Resulta que Rafael es el Diablo Marrero," Elena tells her. It turns out the Rafael is the devil.

GUESS WHERE LUCHA TAKES DANIEL?
To Marina's apartment! Lucha explains that Dr. Mallorca removed the bullet from Daniel's arm. It was Daniel's idea to come to Marina for help. He needed someone whom nobody would suspect, somebody who would not be endangered by hiding him. Marina gets all huffy when she hears that Daniel called Lucha first. Lucha points that Marina now has a golden opportunity to land Daniel -- he'll have to convalesce for at least two weeks and he's in her damn bed! She promises not to set foot in the apartment again unless Daniel calls her.

Now Dr. Mallorca emerges from the bedroom. (Clearly, there are some scenes missing from this one, folks. Bah!) He has given Daniel a sedative and left antibiotics on the bureau. Lucha leaves with Mallorca, asking Marina to explain her departure.

Now Marina has the field to herself. She passes along Lucha's message -- that she is in the middle of moving the kids and it is urgent. Lucha thought he would understand. He does.

Los Miserables, jueves, parte 3

DONDE LOS MEDICAMENTOS EN EL HOSPITAL
Carlos slips in with his backpack, unlocks the drug cupboard, and begins placing the pilfered bottles back on the shelf. Suddenly the door to the room flies open. It is Sor Milagros accompanied by two security guards. She can't believe her eyes: "Carlos, you're the drug thief?"

MARINA AND THE NIGHT VISITOR
Marina's doorbell rings. "Who is it?" No one answers. She asks again. Still no answer. So SHE OPENS THE DOOR! And there's a shark ... okay, no, but just as bad -- it's Liliana and she wants in. She's the one who saved Daniel and she wants to make sure he knows it. Marina tries to push her away and close the door again...

PENTHOUSE OF PERDITION
Lucha is in the middle of explaining to Rosa why they both need to get out of Dodge when the door opens... and in walks the Devil. "You have to leave before I get home, Lucía?" he repeats coolly. Where is she going? Can he come too? Because she's his wife and she's never going to be apart from him. She tells him the marriage was a mistake. He isn't the Rafael she married. She's starting to think Daniel may be right -- that he is really el Diablo Marrero.

PSYCHIATRIC CONSULT -- 5 CENTS PLEASE
Marina denies that Daniel is there. She starts to give Lily a little lecture about the harmful effects of drugs and her experience in treating people with personality disorders. Lily lets out a shrill laugh. Marina isn't fooled. She knows a coke addict when she sees one...

CUPBOARD O' DRUGS
Carlos tells Milagros that it isn't what it looks like. He convinces her to talk to him privately and then explains that he needed the drugs to save Daniel's life...

TWO WILD AND CRAZY BROADS
Lily pulls out her gun and waves it in Marina's face. Meanwhile, the women's voices have carried to the bedroom. Daniel eases out of bed and moves toward the door, perhaps preparing to intervene. But Marina swats the gun out of Lily's hands, startles Lily by splashing her with a drink, and then forces her back out the door by waving the gun in her face. Lily yells that Daniel is just using her. Nobody is going to take Daniel's love away from her!

Once Lily is gone, Daniel comes out. (Hah!) "That woman is crazy -- and she's waaaay in love with you!" says Marina. Daniel rewards her with a protective hug and the hollow reassurance that "nothing bad is going to happen to you."

PENTHOUSE OF PERDITION
Rafagario swears he didn't touch Lucía, that he would never abuse her. That doesn't explain why he drugged her. He tries to justify his behavior: he has been very patient, but surely she can understand how he feels? She says she is confused and needs time to reflect -- time apart from him. She is afraid of him and she can't continue living with him like that. She was traumatized when she lived with Olegario, and now he, Rafael, seems too much like him.

Lucha pulls her suitcase out the door. We see the face change -- Rafael...Rafagario...Olegario. Argggggggh!

WAREHOUSE OF LITTLE COMFORT
Lily bursts in angrily. There is Nuria posed on the couch, smiling meanly and filing her nails. Genaro comes in from another room and asks Lily where she has been. She tells him she doesn't answer to any man. As she storms off, Olegario enters with a loud ¡Qué hubo, familia! Genaro reports that he is bugging the phones of all Daniel's friends.

Los Miserables, jueves, parte 4

DEYA'S PLACE
Lucha finally joins Deya and Elena and her news isn't great. She is now convinced that Rafael is Olegario and she knows he's going to come after her. Elena says she's going to call Pablo. He'll be able to help. "I don't know how," says Deya, "since he's in the pokey."

WELL THAT'S A DIFFERENT STORY!
Why didn't Carlos just ask Sor Milagros for the drugs? She would have been willing to help on Daniel's behalf! Carlos explains that it was an emergency and there just wasn't time. He wanted to avoid any bloodshed. That's why he planned load the rifles with animal tranquilizers. Milagros ends up apologizing for calling Carlos a thief. He tells her he replaced the intact bottles and will pay for the ones he used. (And we all reflect on how much Milagros has change since we first met her. Sor Amparo would be so proud of her.)

THE CELL AT AFIAD
Elena calls Pablo and tells him that Lucha and the kids are back at Deya's place. Lucha is afraid of the Devil. Can Pablo send someone to protect them? He'll take care of it.

Pablo calls over one of his buddies and begs him to let him out for a few hours so he can see his girlfriend...

DONDE MARINA
Marina paws Daniela as he sleeps the sleep of the drugged. You're the handsomest man I know ... I want to be yours forever ... forever

DONDE DEYA
Deya, Elena and Lucha sit around the table together. (The kids aren't making any noise. Either they're asleep by now or they've killed each other.) Lucha has told them about leaving Daniel with Marina. They rib her a little about her feelings for Danny. The doorbell rings -- it must be Pablo's friend. No, it's hunky Pablo himself. He is there to keep the women and children safe until morning...

WAREHOUSE OF REJECTS AND PSYCHOS
Olegario wants Lily to take charge of the latest shipment of merchandise. She says she can't do it -- the police are still after her for trying to kill Lucha, especially after he sent her the hitman's head. The police understood the message perfectly well. "Did you get the message?" asks el Diablo menacingly.

DEYA'S
Elena tells Pablo why Daniel is at Marina's place. Pablo warns Lucha not to call him from the phone in Deya's apartment because it is probably bugged.

WAREHOUSE
The psychos have pulled a crooked lawyer out of bed to ask him if he can get the charges against Lily withdrawn.

Los Miserables, jueves, parte 5

DEYA'S
Pablo says that his new boss is a tyrant who is making his life hell (me hace la vida de cuadritos). Elena sympathizes. She knows what his career means to him. Oh la la, the ice is melting ... Deya withdraws discreetly. Hunky Pablo and lovely Elena smile at one another...

Daybreak in the city. Elena brings Pablo his coffee. This is what life might have been like for them if they hadn't gone their separate ways ... watching her sleep, waking up with her, having a cup of coffee with her before heading off to work ... and kissing her like this with a kiss that starts before the commercial break and continues after...

Pablo finally tears himself away to go to work. Lucha tells her sister it's time to go back to the man she loves. "But I'm not sure I can forgive him." Lucha isn't fooled. That kiss says it all -- Elena has already forgiven Pablo.

AFIAD: AND THE WINNER IS...
Pablo sneaks back into his cell. López the lackey says Pablo can't show up for file clerk duty looking tired and unkempt (cansado y desaseado). "You know what, Lopez? I'm raffling off a beat-down and you're holding all the tickets!"

UNDER HOUSE ARREST AT MARINA'S
Marina finds Daniel out of bed, checking the news on her laptop. She sends him back to bed. Can he use her laptop? Of course.

AFIAD
López rallies the troops. New training in marksmanship, bootcamp, high-impact exercise regime. Yawn. Are we getting a raise?

Pablo takes Rodríguez and León into the file room to talk. They all realize the new training is just a ploy to keep the anti-narcotics team from doing its job. Pablo gives them the latest news on Daniel. He instructs them to buy burner phones so they can communicate with one another since their phones are surely being tapped. They need to meet with Daniel today.

The troglodyte Vidal finds them together and starts posturing again. Rodríguez shuts him up by mentioning the imaginary compromising phone video.

THE HIGHEST REACHES OF GOVERNMENT
Genaro squeezes the old senator a little harder...

AFIAD
...Presumably as a result of the above, Liliana Duran strides into the office in time to interrupt another Rodríguez/León lovers' quarrel. León jumps up and begins to handcuff Liliana. "Release my client immediately!" says her lawyer (the same one we saw earlier in the warehouse). "She is here voluntarily as a witness." Rodríguez and León know they have been snookered, but don't quite understand how.

DUEÑOS DEL PARAÍSO – JUEVES – Parte 1 de 3

POLICE STATION

Ferrara gets on a soapbox in front of the other cops about all the harm drugs do. Saúl gives him a slow clap and says that besides being handsome, a New Yorker, and unbearable, Sal is also a poet. The two insult each other a bit more and almost come to blows. Later Sal says to the police captain that Saúl has to go.

FANCY MIAMI RESTAURANT

The mystery woman from the clothing store (Marina) has brought Paola to her restaurant. She says she’s also a designer. She goes to get some wine, and Paola sees a photo of Marina with a man she recognizes. (It’s Gabriel Valenzuela from La Casa de al Lado y Corazón Valiente). Paola is quite upset and tries to leave. Marina stops her, and Paula asks why she has a photo of “him”. Marina says that she knows him and also knows that Paola loves him.

DESERTED FLORIDA HIGHWAY

Gina is out of the trunk, riding shotgun. She goes nuts wanting to go back for her baby, and Renato injects her with a handy syringe.

FANCY MIAMI RESTAURANT

Mystery man: “It’s been a long time, Paola.” He says he wants to speak to her in private, and she gets rid of the reluctant bodyguard. Then she calls him hermanito! Not what I expected.

CARDONA DRUG WAREHOUSE

Saúl is brought there with a cloth bag over his head. He knows where the place is, but I guess the last time there wasn’t any incriminating drug processing going on.

HOSPITAL

Quezada appears to be recuperating rapidly. He pours on the romantic talk to the doctor and asks her to lock the door. He says it’s to show her how strong he’s gotten! Dr. Roundheels appears ready to be persuaded. He’s got her about half undressed and tells her that “Evelina” is his daughter, not his wife.

A MOVIE TRAILER

They announce a movie opening February 27 called A La Mala with Mauricio Ochmann and Aislinn Derbez. A Latino romcom. Interesting.

DUEÑOS DEL PARAÍSO – JUEVES – Parte 2 de 3

HOSPITAL

Ferrara arrives at the hospital and sees the “patient sleeping” sign. [Do they really have those? In my experience you’re lucky to sleep 10 minutes without someone taking your temperature or your pulse.] Anyway Ferrara gets in the room and gets in some digs at Señor Robledo. He tells LQ his daughter is beautiful, and what’s this about her pretending to be his wife. “Do you sleep in the same bed?” He then calls him Leandro Quezada and asks him to give himself up and go to work for the DEA.

FANCY MIAMI RESTAURANT

Paola’s brother’s name is José Carlos. She tells him it’s been 5 years. José Carlos: “Yes, when mamá was still alive.” [So my theory that the woman who called out to Paola from a car was her mother now looks shaky.] José Carlos tells Paola that he’s not in Paris any more. He’s moved to Miami and won’t exactly say why. Paola tries to convince her brother to meet with his father. Looking grim, JC says that his father is the person who’s caused him the most harm in the world. He asks her not to tell LQ that she’s seen him.

HOSPITAL

Ferrara outlines the deal to LQ. He offers him a new identity. He’d get a reduction of any prison time for crimes either in the US or Colombia. He can be on a plane right away to another country and start a new life. All he has to do is sign a document listing all the things he’s done in the last 15 years. LQ beckons him to come closer and then spits in his face!

CARDONA DRUG WAREHOUSE

Anas meets with Saúl. He says he has a gift to show his good faith. He asks if she knows Rafael Robledo. When she doesn’t, he says the guy is a patient in the hospital and his real name is Leandro Quezada. Anas gives Saúl a big stack of money and tells him to go find out everything about the investigation. And, don’t trust anyone. He tells her he learned that lesson long ago. He goes on to say that this isn’t only about the money. It’s about revenge. He wants to make fools out of the cops who looked down on him. And, said wistfully, Miami won’t ever be like it was before.

SOME SWAMP IN FLORIDA

Renato parks the car and tells Gina it’s the end of the line. He checks that his gun is loaded and pulls her out. Just then two guys pull up in a pickup truck to go fishing. Renato puts his arm around Gina as if they’re lovers. He approaches the fishermen and tells them he’s been there all day and there’s no fish at all. But when he turns back, Gina has escaped! Renato goes running after her.

DUEÑOS DEL PARAÍSO – JUEVES – Parte 3 de 3

CARDONA DRUG WAREHOUSE

Alejo is talking with some street-level dealers, giving them orders. One of the guys wants to try the alas de mariposa with the excuse that he needs to know what he’s selling. Alejo grabs him by the scruff of the neck and is about to throw him out. He begs and Adán lets him back in, with a warning. We see this guy with a bunch of his friends. Conrado has told them they have 3 hours to sell all of it!

SERGIO’S OFFICE

We get to see the trailer for “Sugar Lips. His apparent partner Carmen tells him he’s going to have to figure out a way to talk to Érica and explain what he did with the splicing in of the other person. Érica shows up, eager to see the film.

HOSPITAL

When Paola arrives to visit her father, LQ is quite crabby. He castigates her for not having been there before. When she says she was shopping, Iggy asks where her shopping bags are. Then LQ tells her not to get near him, she smells like a man! Paola hangs tough and doesn’t tell either of them anything. After she leaves LQ tells Iggy he needs to get busy killing all of Anas’ street dealers. He also wants Iggy to talk with the Cubans since they have a common enemy in Anastasia.

SOME SWAMP IN FLORIDA

Gina is trying to push a boat into the water with her hands still bound. Just then the pickup truck with the fishermen comes down the road. She hails them, and they let her into the truck.

CUBAN BAR

Iggy goes to the bar and sends a bottle to the leader of the Cuban drug gang. I can’t remember the guy’s name. Anyway, Iggy says he wants to buy 500 kilos at a very good price.

SOME SWAMP IN FLORIDA

The seemingly friendly and nice fishermen don’t drive very far before dragging Gina out of the car and preparing to rape her. But Renato comes walking over a hill, sees what’s going on and: Bang! Bang! Bang! Three shots, eh. Hmmm?

Los Mis

Wonderful detailed recap, NovelaMaven! THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I got to virtually SEE this capitulo through you!

Bruja Fernanda: " 'You know what, Gonzalo? Don't have children -- it's better to live and die alone, with nothing to regret [and no murderous daughter to shield, oh the strain on me, while she kills my own precious, beautiful granddaughter].' Abel looks away. Dr. Mallorca looks ... too weary for this.
....
"Abel raises his eyes to heaven. She may put on a brave face, (la procesión la llevo por dentro) she tells Gonzalo, but the blows of life are going to end up killing her [if this recapper doesn't get to her first]." Get 'er for me too, NvMv!!

"Evaristo answers honestly. He cares for Adri and sometimes he thinks he is falling in love with her, but he has feelings for Marisela too." I am so relieved that he told her the truth! And that she was reasonable on hearing it!

"Radamés launches a churlish, insulting rant against [Helena], and the social worker warns him that if he continues, she'll have to recommend that the judge suspend his visiting rights with the child." YAY!! A tiny bit of redemption for the Official supposed-child-protectors in this show!

" 'Resulta que Rafael es el Diablo Marrero,' Helena tells Deya." Yes! So, are you saying that Roxy heard that bit, too?

"Sor Milagros: 'Carlos, you're the drug thief?'
....
"(And we all reflect on how much Milagros has changed since we first met her. Sor Amparo would be so proud of her.)" I am so happy to hear she found her higher self and came through that! Kindness, Sor! I am so proud of her :D

"Marina's doorbell rings. 'Who is it?' No one answers. She asks again. Still no answer. So SHE OPENS THE DOOR!" Ay! facepalm

"[Lucha] tells ['Rafagario'] the marriage was a mistake. He isn't the Rafael she married. She's starting to think Daniel may be right -- that he is really el Diablo Marrero."

"Lucha pulls her suitcase out the door. We see the face change -- Rafael...Rafagario...Olegario. Argggggggh!" PERFECTLY put!!! I second that Argggggggh!

"Elena says she's going to call Pablo. He'll be able to help. 'I don't know how,' says Deya, 'since he's in the pokey.' "

"WAREHOUSE OF REJECTS AND PSYCHOS" Brilliant!!

"Elena sympathizes. She knows what [Pablo's] career means to him. Oh la la, the ice is melting … " :D I wasn't hoping for them after Pablo brought la fea Ivanna into their lives, but I have been changing about that, liking him more as he shows respect for Helena's feelings and limits, while staying in and openly expressing his feelings for her.

So many great pieces of your recap, NovelaMaven!
What a treat!!

spanish student: "I also think the connection between Olegario and the murder of Daniel's parents, particularly his mother, was mentioned in the beginning." Thank you for that!

"By bringing it up again, with such pride in his killings, it's easy to see that Diablo's suffering is inevitable. This is a guy who threatens to murder his 'team' every day so he clearly needs to be stopped." Yes! You know, I was realizing that he is even more vicious than he used to seem. You know how they let him have that almost comical manner? It was effectively deceptive. Now look how fierce he looks! " … he clearly needs to be stopped"!

LXV re recaps: You wrote you "look forward to recapping Friday night & Monday night …. " Thank you so much! Love your recaps! I will recap tuesday night's, unless someone else would like to, and I would cover another night/s. I'll find out next week.

Also: "Looks like Deya's started eating for two." LOL I bet she would love it, too! It has become like a badge of honor: I am creating life in here, so I can finally justify eating to complete satisfaction, and then still more for the baby!

And: "spot-on" "insightfully hilarious contributions" blush. Coming from you ….

Thank you for adding your knowledge about the hospital drugs, and Carlos.

NovelaMaven, you wrote, yesterday afternoon, " … maybe [Abel] will get his turn to be someone's 'pillar of strength' when the good doctor is diagnosed with his ghastly neurodegenerative disease." That is a pleasing thought. I so hope that happens, that what seems like self-centeredness gets turned toward someone he truly deeply loves, as he seems to Gonzalo. There are signs of hidden depths of character in him, just starting to show. Standing up to Fernanda couldn't be easy!

El Señor EC: " … the new jefe malo simply wants to show him who is boss and permanently stain his record." Thank you for that! I was very confused by that, too.

deb: "Deyanira is a good girl, there was a time that she brought Neno home after a date and... but she started picturing Carlos, and broke it off." Thank you for making that clear!

I know I have a lot of nerve asking ?, since I'm not keeping up with this, although I did watch a little last night.
Why was Pablo in a jail cell before going to see Elena?

LOS MIZ

Thank you NovelaMaven as always, you've outdone yourself. Such a treat to read with my morning coffee. And I copied your generous vocabulary contributions over to my list.

"Chelo withdraws with surprising tact."—she's learning, I guess.

I share your frustration with Fernanda—I had once nutured hopes for her character, but these last scenes ... oyyy!

So with Adri & Ev still sitting on their respective fences, we've gotten no farther with the couples matchup; but I enjoy their unconventional candor.

"Roxy has been around the telenovela block a time or two..."—she's our little heroine in the making. I realize we've got a scary scene ahead what with the maldita memoria still tucked under her arm, the final linchpin that will cast all the demons into hell in one fell swoop.

How is it that Marina's door doesn't have a peephole? Not sure what I would have done in those circumstances; but it did advance the plot a bit.

At least Pab was smart enough to anticipate bugged phones.

And I'm still mad at Elena for not realizing that the whole Ivana thing was just a front for Pablo to spy on Elena's dangerous domestic situation and be there for her. He should be forgiving her; oh wait! he's not the one doing the blaming.

Variopinta Pablo was thrown in the slammer(I think for 3 days) because that rotten new jefe has it in for him. It's a bogus charge of insubordination; the guy's just a bully. He's doing a lot of stupid tyrannical things now to prevent effective policing while his bosses complete their drug deal in Veracruz.

DUEÑOS:

Thanks, Novelera, for another superb recap.

The Cuban guy is Ronnie Zamora. The doctora is Isabel Cordoba, although we may not see her again, I saw it on her nameplate.

It's fun how these actors we see in show after show change their appearance, so we won't think so much of the last role. The women often change their hair color (Ximena Duque has had at least 3 colors in novelas I've seen). The men change their facial hair. Miguel Varoni takes this to the extreme! Gabriel Valenzuela was clean cut in La Casa, stringy long hair in Corzan, and now short hair and a trimmed beard. What fun!

I don't see how Gina can survive with Renato right there, unless she LOOKS dead, and he leaves, her, then her eyes....OPEN.

It was also funny to have Conrado and especially Adán making all the young drug runners call them Sir, and Boss. Adán was really getting into this. Maybe he IS going to accept Vero's divorce plan, and become a "wild and crazy guy"! He certainly has the wardrobe for that, although Saúl's shirt are even wilder.

TIERRA

Sneaky Two Shoes, thanks for that recap! I laughed at the "impractical lovemaking". I felt sorry for the actors in that scene; it looked so uncomfortable! I did enjoy Flavio and Irina's walkabout, though, with her still in her wedding dress. The lake and waterfall and woods were so pretty. Too bad they couldn't manage to get further away.

I didn't see all of last night's, but here's what I remember:

Veronica found out from Dario that Cayetana is keeping Irina locked in the basement. She went over to visit and tell Irina that she wants to help. No luck getting her out of the house yet, but she did have a bonding moment with Soledad helping her cook (Sole is making Cayetana's favorite dinner; they're trying to get her in a better mood or something). Veronica burned her hand and Soledad rubbed potato on it to heal it instead of letting her put it under cold water (shouldn't cooling it down come first, and THEN folksy healing tricks?). Veronica's snobby shrew of an adoptive mother caught them looking friendly and shrieked up a storm and dragged Vero out.

Sofia is recovered and back at the apartment resting and finding out what's going on with Irina. She doesn't seem as inclined to let Cayetana continue to play abusive dictator as the rest of them.

Flavio stewed a lot and tried to figure out how to rescue Irina and finally went to the ranch and stood in front of all the armed henchies and hollered for Cayetana to come out until finally she did. Stay tuned.

Meanwhile, Cayetana and Leo continue their creepy crawl toward each other. There was hand kissing and Caye invited Leo to stay in the house for the night "since it's so late already" (it did not seem to be late at all). And Leo crept in to Grandpa's room to menace him a little more. It looked like he might kill him, but Gramps suddenly woke up and grabbed the gun from under his pillow. Foiled again.

Comandante came to the house. I missed part of this scene but I guess no one told him Irina was locked in the basement? Surely he would have rescued her had he known?

Samuel and Patricia were getting it on again for some reason. The slimy producer who tried to rape her showed up at her motel room when Sam wasn't there.

Julia
Thank you for another informative recap. Keeping in mind that I don't speak Spanish, I THINK Cayetana and the
commandante had a little back and forth in which she
told him that he shouldn't be with the girl that he brought
to the wedding, and he questioned her relationship with
Leonardo. I'm really sticking my neck out because I
have little idea of what they were saying. Just trying to
help since y'all are so generous with your time. I'm hoping that the commandante will be Caye's salvation.

To those who don't speak Spanish why not turn on your closed caption CC on? That was the way I learned enough Spanish to not need them anymore. Of course, I miss some things said due to accents or idioms that I don't know but I am pretty good by ears now, yay. It took a year for me to get Spanish in most situations, on buses, trains, and radio.
Duenos: I do not like Gina(don't even have a valid reason) Renato is loosing his hitman grip. JC maybe undercover? Iggy gives me the creeps and Vero will be in a world of pain at some point. I don't fault her but naive much? Who to root for? The baby? lol, La mala suerte is malo. Where's Silvana? the sister of Elias?
Tierra: Abuelo has 9 lives, lol. Cayetana wants her some Leonardo, yuck. I love Vero and she'll make Dario help Irina.
Loz Miz: Diablo will not give up on Lucha easily so fireworks to come. She was clever to use his desire not to give himself away as a ruse to leave. Poor congressman, lol, his twist is making him a puppet of those narcos.

Tierra
Okay, thank you so much for recapping Tierra since no one else would do it. I do admit this novella is a little cheesy and completely unpredictable at times but it the only one I watch. There are days that I have night classes and I cant see it and it feels good to know I can come on here for some commentary.
. . . . Missed last nights episode so im going to comment on what I know.
* Cayetana – So sad to see what she did to Irina but if I do recall Irina is of age and should not allow her mother to do that to her. I can not emphasize how much I hate Leonardo. What the hell is he doing in the ranch anyway. Cayentana open your eyes!! I mean you caught this guy cheating for heaven’s sake. I hope she sees she belongs with el capitan (Nestor) I do love them together. Hell I will even take her with Emilio

* Andrea- There are times I feel so much pity for this girl. I don’t think she admires her mom but instead fears her. There has been no point in the nevela where they have said that Cayetana is ill or weak. Why will it kill her to see her daughters happy with three normal guys that don’t have money.

Sofia and Arturo – Yawn . . . but it is nice to see him smile more often

Irina and Flavio – Awww cute but She needs to figure out that her little plan wasn’t going to work or better yet she had to tell Flavio to relax. I mean it’s not that she sharing her with Dario the guy is gay. Flavio get a grip!

Samuel – I can see why Ulises calls him “Baboso” is he really so stupid and willing to go back to Patricia. (Which I won’t mention cause I can’t nor Soledad)

Veronica and Pablo – Cutest couple on the show and love their scenes.

Okay rant over I will see If I can watch last nights episode on demand tonight after work. Thanks Julia and anonymous!

Thanks again, NovelaMaven for another great recap. I missed the show last night but thanks to your recap I feel caught up.

I can't believe Lucha told Diablo that she thinks he's Diablo (against Pablo's advice) and he allowed her to leave. I thought he would have held her hostage. Glad I was wrong.

So the uncontrollable passion has fizzled between Adri and Evaristo. I'm still surprised Marisela is an issue. I thought she put an end to their relationship a while ago.

LXV, my door doesn't have a peephole either but I didn't notice until after I moved in. Still boggles the mind.

Tierras

Leonardo- Stole the gun from under Don Felipes pilow. He wasn't happy with Cayetana's talk about maybe allowing Flavio and Irina to be together.

Cayetana- She likes Capitan Fernandez and was jealous of him dating the reporter. He told her his to old for love and the reporter was good enough for him. Leo is confusing her with his touchy/flirty/creepy behaviour. She doesn't know what to do with attention after Ignacio ignored for the last year of their marriage. How does Leo think Andrea or anyone will accept him and cayetana together.

Los Reyes- Their mum's friend (Sol's mum?)- Told them their mum confided in her their father's affair and love child. Theie mum asked Soledad to not break her family. Flavio is going to get some DNA for paternity test from Veronica.

Beatrice- The two evil employees are still plotting her death and their reign over her wealth. I was so happy she did not die. Please TN gods don't kill her!

I hope my attempt at recapping was successful!

Aficionada and LXV, on this glacially cold and snowy day, reading your comments is like standing in front of a warm, glowing hearth. Thank you!

Aficionada, once again I am touched by your night owl response. It is so good to know that a friend is waiting to read what I have written and furthermore, is willing to turn a blind eye to the various gaffes and typos that my recaps are invariably riddled with.

I just love your smart interlinear comments such as this: [and no murderous daughter to shield, oh the strain on me, while she kills my own precious, beautiful granddaughter].

or this: YAY!! A tiny bit of redemption for the Official supposed-child-protectors in this show!

Did Roxy hear Elena say that Rafael was el Diablo? I thought she did.

Like you, I was glad of Evaristo's honesty and Adriana's response to it. Can we add her name to the roster of grown-ups in the story?

LXV, Thanks for answering Variopinta's question about Pablo.

I especially enjoyed this line in your comment:

—[Roxy is] our little heroine in the making. I realize we've got a scary scene ahead what with the maldita memoria still tucked under her arm, the final linchpin that will cast all the demons into hell in one fell swoop.

I'm glad you are focusing on the big picture for us. I sometimes become overwhelmed by the details of the episode.

I'm a little more forgiving of Elena than your are. I think Pablo took his dalliance with Ivana a little farther than was strictly necessary...but hey, if Pablo and Elena are willing to let bygones be bygones, who are we to question them?

So who knew Marina would out-tough Liliana? That was a shocker!

Romy, you are so right -- there's no way that el Diablo is going to leave Lucha alone now. And I agree that the senator is pathetic. Even so, he is responsible for a lot of bad stuff. A lot.

Spanish student, the pleasure is all mine!

I didn't mean to give the impression that Lucha confronted Olegario with his real identity. She danced around it very skillfully by telling him that his recent behavior reminded her of el Diablo and frightened her. She never came out and said: You are really Olegario! I think that if she had, he would not have allowed her to leave.

Question for anyone: How did Liliana find Daniel? Was she following Lucha? Was she just playing a hunch?

TIERRAS

Thank you, Star! I missed that Leo got the gun from Abuelo. He's such a creep.

It would be nice if Cayetana would quit being such a witch and get together with Capitan Fernandez, but on the other hand, doesn't he deserve better than a snob who does things like lock up her adult daughters?

And how could I forget that the brothers now know that they have a half-sibling?

If Flavio took Irina to his home neighborhood, he must have been willing to tell her his real identity, right? Because wouldn't his old friends have been calling him "Gallardo" and mentioning Alma, perhaps?

I agree that Andrea is afraid of her mother. I think she must have learned early on to try to be the perfect good girl and do exactly what Mama wants to try to avoid trouble. She acts tough and cold, but she was obviously very upset by what Cayetana was doing to Irina. Even when they went to the apartment to bug Sofia, she looked like she was forcing herself to be on Cayetana's side but would have liked to be more kind to Sofia.

NvMv about "...focusing on the big picture... I sometimes become overwhelmed by the details of the episode.": That is exactly how I feel when I am doing a recap. I concentrate so hard on getting all the ins & outs correctly that I often can't get a sense of where it's all going. But, when I can sit back and read somebody else's rendition, then it's a whole lot easier to appreciate overall themes and speculate about outcomes.

About Roxy overhearing, I thought so too. And I bet she and SuperMemín will hold a conference on this very issue, maybe tonight! Looking forward to it.

And it is cold! It's so cold... well, just leave it at that. Glad our heat is working and no frozen pipes.

Los Mis

deb, Thanks so much!

Anon 3:26, that makes sense. Liliana is obsessed with Daniel and makes it her business to know the competition.

LXV Excellent point about losing perspective when writing a recap. It is possible to step back and really think about the episode -- I used to do that routinely when I was recapping on the other side of this blog -- but I've gotten lazy lately. Of course, when you recap from memory, you are necessarily taking the larger picture. That works when people aren't hungry for details, but not so much when readers are looking to get a sense of what was said in each scene.

A miniature 'culture' tends to develop around the blogging of each show with tacit decisions made about the level of detail and the recappers aim for. The variety of writing styles and approaches around here has always fascinated me. (I'm particularly proud of the Telemundo page though, and remarkable writers like Jean, Novelera, Hombre de Misterio and deb, just to mention a few, who routinely share their talents here.)

TIERRA

Okay, here's what I don't understand (might have missed it since I didn't watch from the very beginning of the series):

How far away is this ranch where the brothers grew up? I had the impression it is not a great distance away. Like maybe not right in the same area, but probably in the same county or maybe the next county over. I mean, if Valverde and Cayetana are interested in that ranch, and Soledad mixed up with Gallardo Sr. and Alma wandered over and got involved with Mr. del Junco, and they were already friends with the taco shop crowd, and the comandante knew their dad, I wouldn't think it's really far away.

So how exactly are they managing to keep their identities secret? Do I need to tighten my beanie? Were they homeschooled on the ranch, so they don't know a gazillion people from school in a nearby town?

Also, I thought that the place Flavio took Irina to after the roll in the woods was near their original home (because he didn't think anyone would look for them there), and therefore the people who greeted him would have been people they'd known since childhood who knew his real identity. Was that not the case? Was it the neighborhood they moved to more recently? Why would he have thought Cayetana wouldn't look for them there?

LOS MIZ
NvMv: Your comments are so helpful to me, as a newbie recapper; I only started doing this recently and it just grew naturally out commenting. Things were pretty lean for Los Miz for a while there, so I tried to drum up enthusiasm, just so there'd be someone to talk to. And rather than complain that nobody was recapping, I just jumped in. It's gratifying to have a solid core of stalwarts as we cruise to the finish.

Caray Caray's come a long way since Melinama did the first Alborada in 2006. She set a high standard, embarking on that whole thing single-handledly with such élan. I've been over here on the Telemundo side since Reina I, and sometimes miss the gang over at Uni, but don't miss the novelas. (And I always admired your recaps!) So it's extra special for me to be on "your" team over here.

It took me a long time to try recapping for a couple of reasons, the biggest of which is that from about May through October, I go away to look after my Mom (who is still hanging in there, God bless her) where I have no access to TV or internet. It's a blessing to be completely off-line for a while; puts things in perspective, and I get a lot done. But I re-enter civilization, if you could call it that, completely out of sync.

I've been enjoying the wonderful work of many talented recappers all these years, and so with such a small audience over here, I got up my nerve and tried it. But my method is based on a close re-watching when the web posts the episode the next morning. I won't deny that it takes a lot of time, but I consider it my Spanish lesson for the week. And I sincerely hope we can encourage others to jump in when they feel ready.

Tierras

Julia

Think of it as same state but different cities near Houston city center. Ranch country is probably a good couple of miles from city center. Junco ranch is probably in rich ranch country while Gallardo is in middle class country. Their new apartment is in the city and in the same complex as Tomas family. The two women were friends ( maybe met because Gallardo sir was in Houston PD) in the city. Tighten your beanie though! I'll make time to comment since I never miss an episode.

Los Mis

LXV, I'm so glad you find my comments helpful. You may be new to recapping, but you are a wonderful writer, and wonderful writers write wonderful recaps. Experience makes you more efficient. The process becomes slicker and more predictable but the product is not necessarily better.

It's true that writing to a smaller audience in a tucked-away venue like this is less intimidating than writing for the Uni crowds and putting your name up in lights. On the other hand, recapping in comment boxes basically means posting your first draft and then forever wincing at all the things you'd change if you could. (Maybe it's better not to look back.)

LOS MIZ
NvMv You're a doll!.
AficionadaI hope you're listening.

TIERRA

Sneaky two shoes, your recap was great and much appreciated.

I think the characters keep calling Beatriz "Nina", which does make it confusing. Not the most direct nickname. It took me awhile to figure out who they meant.

I did like that Cowetana remembered that Flavio had saved Irina's life and maybe, just maybe, she should "allow" Irina's relationship with him. For a tiny second there she was almost considering thinking of him as a human being. He also saved Andrea when they got locked in the freezer by wrapping himself around her scrawny body. Not likely she would have survived without that. Cayetana even admitted that Flavio seemed slightly more "educado" than his brothers. Certainly she could do much much worse on the son-in-law front! And she has!

DUEÑOS DEL PARAÍSO – JUEVES

As I posted earlier today, just some highlights to stimulate conversation.

· Renato did NOT kill Gina. Instead he put her on a bus to New Orleans.

· Érica goes to the “premiere” and discovers what Sergio did. I had hopes she’d run out of there, but, after yelling at Sergio, it appears she listened to Carmen some.

· Conrado is boring me with his repeated attempts to seduce Anastasia. This time he tells her that he loves her.

· Anas brings up the problem with the IRS. We saw a letter from them in an earlier episode. If there’s anyone who can scare criminals, it’s the IRS!

· Miami police captain chews out Ferrara. Dr. Roundheels is planning to sue the department for Sal grabbing her.

· Elias finds out that Gina never gave birth in the hospital.

· Verónica shows up at the police department. Benevides recognizes her and steers her away from the other cops. He takes her to a restaurant and asks if OK to record her statement. She starts telling her story, but repents and runs out.

· Elias comes to ask Anas what she did with Gina. Thinking fast, Anas says that Gina gave birth under her real name.

· Alejo calls Lidia, his real estate woman on the side, and wants to meet her. Analia wasn’t out of the house, but it’s not clear if she heard him.

· A box addressed to Anas arrives at the drug warehouse. Alejo later delivers it to her. It’s the tape recorder with Vero telling Benavides the beginning of her story, naming Conrado San Miguel.

I realize we've got a scary scene ahead what with the maldita memoria still tucked under her arm, the final linchpin that will cast all the demons into hell in one fell swoop."

NovelaMaven: "Aficionada and LXV, on this glacially cold and snowy day, reading your comments is like standing in front of a warm, glowing hearth. Thank you!" What a beautiful thought and honor, NovelaMaven, thank you so very much!! You sent me warmth from that glowing hearth in your cherished words.

"Aficionada, once again I am touched by your night owl response. It is so good to know that a friend is waiting to read what I have written" - very dear NovelaMaven, another profound honor, to make a difference for you. It is, for me, almost the same in reverse: I get home, having missed the copitulo, feeling a touch deprived by that (i have never forgiven them for vanishing the midnight airing i had built my schedule around - pout :( ), resigned to probably waiting until the next day to read a recap, maybe see the video, and then, ¡Caray! Wow! a recap!! Your recap, full of luscious narration, quotations, Spanish idioms, elucidation and humor!! And I am IN the story again … enchanted!

" … and furthermore, is willing to turn a blind eye to the various gaffes and typos that my recaps are invariably riddled with." LOL! Not that I have actually noticed ANY such thing in yours, but have you seen my attempts? Far be it from me …. :D

and about my "interlinear comments," blush. High praise, coming from YOU! Thank you so!

About this from lxv: "And I'm still mad at Elena for not realizing that the whole Ivana thing was just a front for Pablo to spy on Elena's dangerous domestic situation and be there for her. He should be forgiving her; oh wait! he's not the one doing the blaming."

You wrote: "I'm a little more forgiving of Elena than you are. I think Pablo took his dalliance with Ivana a little farther than was strictly necessary...but hey, if Pablo and Elena are willing to let bygones be bygones, who are we to question them?"

At first, I thought Elena had no right to object, having chosen Radames (ugh!), but someone here posted how it being someone living in the same house made it seem spiteful, to punish Elena, and I agreed. He did explain it "was just a front." but it was THAT that made me think he blew it. I mean, telling the woman you love and lost that you are just with someone else to USE her for something, well … it just wouldn't make that man MORE lovable, as I experienced it listening to him. I think they both have things to be forgiven for, almost kind of canceling each other out: "let bygones be bygones" and go on from there.

LXV: "Aficionada I hope you're listening."

Absolutely!! Much to say on your and NovelaMaven's great, enlightening discussion on this, but, for now, I just have to say I am cherishing this trove from THE BEST!! - more on that once I chew on it all some more … and have more time to comment on it than I do right now. Duermo ahora.

But first: You, LXV, are a NEWBIE recapper?! O my. Well, in the words of one who Knows, NovelaMaven (as one herself), "You may be new to recapping, but you are a wonderful writer …. "
You really are.

ps, NvMv and LXV - "recapping in comment boxes"??

" … on this glacially cold and snowy day," stay warm!!

¡Hasta mañana!

Aficionada

thanks so much novelera,
you are always doing so much to help everyone out.

ok if I add some flounce to your perfect summary?

Renato shoots the 'bad' guys, takes Gina to a motel so she can get cleaned up (still the half-moon cut on her forehead she has had all week, maybe this is real and they are working it into the story), he goes back to the scene, puts the dead 'bad' guys into his car and pushes it into the lake with their truck, (how many environmental permits does it take to do this - Renato doesn't seem to care) and returns with some duds for Gina.

"put her on a bus to New Orleans" , you are young, you will have lots of kids, return and you are dead, Renato says.

"Sugar Lips" , ok I get the title now, and so does Erika, wow, so what do you do, move to Canada, Sergio's assistant, former porn star, says you'll like being famous, give it a try.

and Lu wasn't budging, we depend on him for everything.

and what was Conrado saying, Chileans make better love, and when he said he wanted to be her Dueños, did Anas say he sounded more like a Mexican? (myself, I couldn't take the smoke)

ooo, that lady cop is pretty sharp, wants to know what's up with Veronica being there, Saul deflects her with the Lu marijuana stuff, (Salvador has Saul pegged as not being a team player, and I'm wondering how this will work with Anas).

and why did you take me to this cafe, Vero asks, can't be too careful and Saul pulls out his recorder, as she freaks and looks around to see if they are being watched. (Saul does to good people like Adan does to people that are high, bad trip man)

and Elias demanding to see Anas, does anyone think Modesta was a pirate in a past life.

wow, a lone pickup cruises the strip while two guys laying in the bed jump up and mow down Conrado's salesmen, and later when he arrives, wtf, (I'm disappointed they are not going with the original character description, that he is a hardened Vietnam veteran, Mario Cimarro tried out for this part and I can sometimes see him doing it)

Analia scares me.

ok, the moral of a narco novela is (as I see it) no one wins in the end and no innocence is left untouched.

Dueños

Thanks, Novelera and Deb. All your detailing is much appreciated.

I thought I’d be ticked at Vero for being so foolish as to expose herself, but she’s an honest, naïve person and nearly crushed by what Adán is doing. Géraldine Bézan did a fine job.

Saúl is scum. He put a bullseye on Vero’s back by sending Anas the tape. It’s one thing to be a dirty, lousy cop working with narcotraficantes, but it’s far far more loathsome to intentionally put an innocent person in jeopardy. Saúl’s anvil can’t be big enough.

Yay, Renato is a hero! But how long will he keep going along with Anas? No way will Gina stay away from her baby for long though.

!Ay caramba! Erica’s “Sugar Lips” character got it on with men and women too. I don’t like that Erica seemed to be mollified by Sergio’s assistant. She needs help, but Conrado is like a petulant kid. Can he rise to the occasion and help Erica out of this jam? I'm thinking of the scene in The Godfather where they tell the guy that either his brains or signature will be on the document voiding the contract.

Can we get somebody motherly to take care of the baby? Anas and Modesta? Nope. Maybe Irene will shine here.

LOS MIZ Capitulo 97 (Friday night ) parte uno

POLICE HQ, IN THE "BOX"
Liliana has made her appearance, had the handcuffs removed, and, accompanied by her lawyer, denounced Daniel Ponce to Alejandro. "Why didn't you come forward before?" I wouldn't have been treated fairly; he's behind bars now. I want to clear my name."

OK, says Alej. the day of the attempt on Lucia, everybody was at the memorial service for Sor Amparo. "Yeah but, I was in my hotel, I wasn't anywhere near; I can't stand that horrendous place." Alej continues to question her; she glances occasionally in the direction of her lawyer. "It's no secret I didn't get along my half-sister; I hated her guts, but I'm incapable of murder because I'm a peaceful woman." Well, then if you're so peaceful, what are you doing hanging around with rough types like Genaro Cabello, or do you deny that? Alej starts to play hardball; he bring up all the rotten things we know about her and her cronies. She plays cool and denies, but with "plausible" explanations for her relationships with all three bad guys, Genaro, Diablo & Radames. So in walks the Secretary for Public Safety, some honcho in the pay of the dark side. He springs her, over Alej's protestation. Alej, now rudely put in his place, looks pensive while Lil exults. Marisela is seen in reflection from behind the two-way mirror.

On her way out, Lucia runs into our three good guys Pablo, Evaristo & Marisela,. Their parting words are not fond. Her lawyer reminds her she's free to go. "Marimacha" tries to respond to Lil's pointed insults about not having a man. The fellas have to cool her down. Now's not the time to blow it; they won today's round.

HOSPITAL OF MANY "MIS"ERIES
Elena is at her post outside the doctor's office, flashing back to her latest encounter with Pablo. Carlos approaches, bearing coffee and teasing her gently about the smile plastered across her face. She demurely avoids his glance, but can't help herself. She's all aglow. He can't help but notice. "So tell me something, what is it about men that they can't just have one woman. Is infidelity congenital in you guys?" (She's just starting to break out of her box, but alas is still stricken by the same stereotypes that put her there in the first place.) Carlos is all, "wait a minute, I'm not like all the rest, Just like all women aren't controlling, am I right" (so he tosses a stereotype right back at her). She's obviously never had a relationship based on trust and thinks that men just run off with another at the first blip on the radar. Carlos proclaims that he advocates for monogamy! and proceeds to gush about some "imaginary" true love. Elena totally calls him on this. "Why don't you just stop all the nonsense and go after Deyanira?" His radiant smile vanishes.

LOS MIZ Capitulo 97 (Friday night ) parte dos

LA CASA DURAN
The family is still assembled for what my dad used to call a "baby-raving" session. In full swing with photo albums and memories, Chelo cradles her precious little Mini-Vicki, surrounded by the bis-abuelos, and an assortment of tíos y tías, Octavio, Gonzalo & the little cousins Nacho, Memin & Roxana. Bittersweet describes the mood, as nobody skirts the finality of Vicki's absence. They start a round of toasts: Fernanda toasts the good doctor, Abel toasts his wife and her child. The whole warm'n'fuzzy scene was a set up: in marches Lily La Diabla, (wearing white shorts!), to the consternation of all. Her challenging greeting is returned by Lucha's accusation of murder. Lily puts on her shocked & aggrieved face. Fernanda hastens to her side, muttering a pathetic plea of defense, for the sake of Ignacio's health. The two fieras stand off. Lucha grabs her purse & her kids and heads out the door. The party breaks ranks; Octavio starts to leave—if looks could kill, this show would be over pronto—he glares at Lily on his way out. She spews defiant self-pity to a mute audience. Iggy finally asks, "Tell the truth, you had nothing to do with Vicky's death, did you" Fernanda casts a downward glance at this reminder that she really does know something.
"Oh daddy, how could you believe all those lies that Lucia's told you? Look me in the eyes, I could never have..." She's really playing it good, but who's buying?

SOR MILAGROS' OFFICE
Deya's sits waiting; she's got a bit of indigestion after her 6-course meal in the cafeteria. "Is it normal to be this hungry?" Carlos enters; he's got the check to repay all those drugs he stole in the last episode. She gets nosy and impertinent. He tells her mind her own business; he bumps into Neno on the way out. Neno's brought Deya a teddy bear as a baby present. (I'm liking this sweet guy better than I used to ). Of course, Carlos eavesdrops and re-enters to bust up the lovely scene with an ugly scene of his own. He's never behaved so disgracefully. She pleads her love; he sneers his contempt, accusing her of entrapment with her "professional" wiles. And, even worse, that, knowing what kind of woman she is, the kid is surely NOT HIS. So there! She slaps hard!

Into the midst of this terrible drama, the unfortunate Marina inserts herself. She's looking for Carlos. Well she's found him. "Did I come at a bad time? Am I interrupting something?" Deya defiantly makes her exit, not without her own self-pitying declarations. "Even if I had been with 500 men when we were together, as you've accused me, this baby would still be mine and mine alone. Carlos shows his teeth in a rather unattractive grimace, he gesticulates wildly in an uncharacteristic manner. Fortunately for us, his phone rings. It's Lucia. She warns him off from going over to the Casa Duran. She's gotten into a terrible fight and had to leave...and. SURPRISE SURPRISE: THE PHONE LINE IS TAPPED! We see our evil cabal assembled in their clubhouse hanging gleefully on every word. They've got their guys out following every move of our guys.

"OK, so now what do we do?" (like lambs to the slaughter, if only they knew). Carlos heads out with Marina (did they cut this scene?; the transition seems a bit choppy). He waits outside the car while she runs in to Deyanira's. He observes a plaid-shirted henchman in a cowboy hat leaning up against the next car. Carlos seems to suspect that something's up with that.

LOS MIZ Capitulo 97 (Friday night ) parte tres

DEYANIRA'S HOUSE
Deya bemoans her sorry state to Lucha & Elena, describing all of Carlos' indignities and false accusations. Elena, the calm & circumspect, tries to cool Deya's tirade saying that having a kid is not a one-sided arrangement. Deya fights back, thinks Elena's just defending her boss. Lucha & Elena kind of have to set her straight. "Lookit, kid, having a baby is not like having a puppy"

A knock at the door; it's Marina: "éramos muchos y parió la abuela" I had to look this one up. She's saying: "things were already bad, and now look." sort of like "out of the frying pan into the fire". [Although as a personal aside, this very afternooon, I'm going to meet my new infant nephew, the first child of my 60-year old brother. He's in heaven, but I don't know how he's going to feel in 10 years when the kid wants daddy to pitch a few innings.] S-o-o-o, Deya stomps off; Marina lamely says, "I guess I came at a bad time." (she's getting good at this line.) Lucha is nothing if not genuinely gracious, "No, you came at a good time, Thanks for taking such good care of Daniel." She introduces her sister, Elena. (They really do seem like sisters in this scene; two beautiful blondes in black.) Of course, Marina has to insert-foot-in-mouth, insisting that it's nothing; she would do anything for Danny. Passive-aggressive b*tch!

Lucia hands Marina a backpack filled with stuff for Daniel; Lucha presses the warning to be careful about being followed and bugged; not just for Carlos, but for herself as well. She should realize the risk she's putting herself in for helping out in this way. Exit Marina. Lucha explains to her sis just exactly who this psicologa is in the scheme of things. Elena nods gravely.

Out in the street, Marina cautions the waiting Carlos about being followed. He's hip to her jive, having already noticed the plaid-shirted henchman down the street. The clueless twit says "Don't scare me like that." He says, I'm not trying to scare you; I just want you to buckle up because we may be in for quite a ride.

CLUBHOUSE OF CRIMINALS
Lily stomps in; Genaro "'Sup, Sis? How's your family?" "Oh that sister of mine had to be there; I detest her & you can't imagine how much I want her dead. I can't stand it another minute." Genaro has some nice new duds; he's looking a bit cleaned up these days. He reasons with her sympathetically warning however that Diablo better not find out it was she who tried to murder Lucia.

MARINA'S PAD OF FRUSTRATED L-U-U-U-V
[I know the webcast was badly cut; Carlos & Marina were followed by the henchman. It was interesting to see the cars slip into that heavy Mexico City traffic.] So our sad-sack couple slouches together on the couch. He's got plans to hide out somewhere else, safer. The witless whiner insists he stay. No, he's determined not to let anymore bad things happen. He doesn't want to lose her! {Well, what about losing Lucia, Viewerville wants to know!] So she glowers in deference to his better judgement.

LOS MIZ Capitulo 97 (Friday night ) parte cuatro

THE PENTHOUSE OF PERDITION
Doorbell rings, and Rosa goes to answer. Liliana in full battle dress (de luto, por supuesto , she matches her grieving sisters), quite literally marches in with Genaro at her heels. Diablo roughly dismisses the sweet & lovely Rosa; "So, what's up? and Faraon?" he asks his team. Turns out Radamés had to go to the judge's office for the reading of his divorce. They dis their absent partner, but now Diablo's got his good news: "I know where Ponce is!" He queries Liliana about her knowledge of that psiquiatra. Lily is completely cara palo as she denies even knowing who that is. Diablo throws it right back at her. "You really expect me to believe that?" Lily's stone face persist, but has taken on a slightly anxious cast. Diablo plays with her. He knew the name all along: "Marina Valdes. ¿Que no?" Lil's not smiling now.

GENERAL TALK ABOUT RECAPPING some of you are fairly new to Caray, Caray, but it is in its 9th year. After our blog mom, Jane Peppler, now known as Chapel Hill Fiddler started this whole thing by recapping Alborada all by herself. The blog was originally an offshoot of her own personal blogspace, but it got so many followers, she started "Caray Caray" named for the favorite expression of Tía Isabel (Mariana Karr, the warm, wise, gravelly voiced, cigar-smoking and extremely rich aunt of our hero, Fernando Colunga (sigh) -er- Don Luis Manrique de Arrellano, the true Conde de Guevara, (although it took quite a few months to figure out that he was.)

Blog readership mushroomed and soon a crew of telenovela devotees had joined the ranks of recappers. I don't think Jane recaps anymore, but it's still her blog. For a few years, it seems all the novelas were on the Univision network; and then gradually some fans of Telemundo, & even Azteca, at times, pressed for their own space. So if you are a Univision watcher, then you already know that each novela has its own separate page into which the recappers post their text directly. Commenters comment in the comment box: that dinky little thing at the bottom, with character-count limitations, which forces us to break up our writing into parts that will fit and that allows no opportunity for correction short of deleting the entire entry and re-posting.

The Telemundo audience (that is us over here, on the "other side") has never been large enough to warrant individual pages for each novela. There is quite a bit of administration involved. So we suffer under these constraints. But, gladly. I've come to prefer the Telemundo novelas because of: better acting; less formulaic plotlines; more grit & honesty in the characterisations, but that's just me and it's a gross generalization. I watched Uni for years and love the Caray community over there. I felt a little lost when I moved over here to our smaller group, but the quality of the shows is much more to my liking.

The recappers "on the other side" are quite organized & quite regular. But, this whole enterprise is based entirely on good will, mutual enthusiasms and volunteer effort. So I hope nobody takes umbrage if I try to persuade or encourage others to step up and recap if they feel so inclined. I'm kind of happy to be in a looser confederation, "on this side". It makes it easier when I have to bow out and I'm all the more grateful for the efforts made by the group.

Los Miserables, Capítulo 97, part 1

Police Station
Unethical attorney explains that Liliana is there voluntarily to give a statement as a whitness. Alejandro tells Maricela to remove the handcuffs. Liliana tries to push Maricela's buttons. Evaristo intervenes.
Later, Maricela brings some burn phones to Evaristo. She asks about Liliana. Evaristo had not thought to go listen in on the interrogation. She goes to do that.
Later, Pablo and Evaristo and chatting when Liliana emerges free as a bird from the interrogation. She tries to push Marisela's buttons again. Evaristo intervenes again. Pablo counsels her to keep her cool.

Archives
Pablo is using a romantic chat site to communicate with Daniel, guerrita tierna (?). Daniel types in code. Tells Pablo not to come because he is sure his husband has people watching everywhere.

Ignacio's room
Mallorca announces that Ignacio can soon return home to a near normal life. They will celebrate tonight. Consuelo will cook.

Interogation
Alejandro questions why Liliana chose now to come forward. She says she was scared and didn't think she would be treated fairly.
Alejandro reminds her that for a woman who claims to be peaceful, she keeps some bad company, like Genaro Cabello. She responds that Genaro was a highly regarded police and she hired him as a bodyguard. She claims she did not know Genaro was a fugitive. Alejandro shows her the video of Genaro carrying the box with El Columbiano's head. She feigns ignorance and says maybe Genaro was involved in the attempt on Lucia's life, not her.
Later, with Maricela listening in, Alejandro reminds Liliana that she was Olegario's lover. She does not deny it. He treated her like a business partner and put her on her feet. After Liliana talked about her business relationship with Radames, Alejandro's boss enters and tells him to stop the interrogation and release Lilliana.

Outside Carlos's Office
Helena daydreams about her latest kiss with Pablo. Carlos brings her coffee. Helena wants to know why men can't love just one woman. Carlos claims he is not like the others and one day when he finds that special woman, it would be difficult to be with another. Helena reminds him that he is in love with Deyanira.

Hospital Cafe
Deyanira orders everything on the menu – with extra mayonnaise and cheese. Deyanira eats everything. Carlos looks on in horror. Deyanira runs to the restroom to throw up. Carlos begins to wonder something. Lucia enters and asks him to tell Marina that she has invited her to Deyanira's house, because she has some things to give to Daniel.

Hospital
Octavios goes blah, blah, blah about the baby. Lucia tells him Daniel is ok and asks him to collect some personal items for Daniel and take them to her father's house.

Bodega
Genaro fills in Olegario on what's going on with Ponce, the police, Daniel's friends, etc. They are trying to figure out where Daniel is hiding.
Somehow Genaro knows that Pablo, Rodriguez and Maricela are in a bar at the moment discussing how to help Daniel. Olegario is sure Lucia also knows where Ponce is, but he can't contact her about this, because she is married to Rafael, not Olegario.
Later, they listen in on the conversation or Lucia and Carlos. Lucia tells Carlos to come to her father's house because someone had a psychotic event. Radames is convinced all the Durans are crazy. Olegario tells Genaro to have Carlos followed.
Later, after Olegario is gone, Liliana enters. Genaro asks her how it went with her family. Liliana is drinking again. The worst is that her parents don't believe her and no one loves her. Genaro tells her she can forget about them, because he can give everything she needs. Really? He loves her?

Oops.... Lxv, I didn't see your recap when I started. So we have two recaps today. Yours is much better than mine!

Los Miserables, Capitulo 97, parte 2

Casa de los Duranes
They are having celebrating and giving thanks. Everyone is there: Ignacio & Fernanda, Consuelo, Octavio & Vicky Jr., Helena & Nachito, Lucia & los escuincles, Abel & Mallorca. In comes Liliana and immediately needles Lucia.
Lucia gets up to leave with the kids, accuses Liliana of killing Vicky. This is the first time Ignacio is hearing this. Liliana, as usual denies ever doing anything wrong. Lucia tells her she know she tried to kill her twice. Slaps are exchanged. Liliana is insulted that her whole family would think she is a murderer based on a dream Lucia had. Lucia leaves. Octavio leaves. Liliana assures Ignacio that she had nothing to do with Vicky's death. Fernanda keeps her silence.

Sor Milagro's office
Deyanira is recovering. Carlos comes in to give a check for the stolen drugs. The other boyfriend arrives has he is leaving. Carlos eavesdrops and finds out that Deyanira is having a baby. Carlos accuses Deyanira of trying to blackmail him. She denies it, says it is love. He says something, she slaps him. Marina enters. Marina exits. They argue some more. He receives a call from Lucia.

Restaurant & bar
Pablo reveals to Rodriguez and Maricela that he has been communicating with Daniel via love-chat.

Ignacio's room at home
Fernanda is tucking him into bed. Liliana is there. He asks why she disappeared. She says because the police was looking for her, but now her innocence has been confirmed. She again asserts that she is innocent of what Lucia is accusing her of. Fernanda has a flashback to the hospital the last time Vicky was seen with Liliana. She still maintains her silence. Ignacio wants to believe her, but doesn't.

Hospital
Abel thanks Mallorca for everything and asks if something sis wrong. He seems strange. Mallorca denies it.

Deyanira's place
Helena and Lucia are chatting. Lucia says she couldn't stop herself from accusing Liliana. Deyanira comes in upset. She is going to forget about Carlos forever. Carlos and Marina arrive outside, but Carlos refuses to go inside. He notices that they are being watched.
Inside, they are going blah blah blah about Carlos and the baby when Marina knocks. Deyanira stomps off to her room. Lucia gives Marina the bag with Daniel's stuff and tells her to tell Carlos to be very careful that they are not being followed and not to try to contact Daniel because the phones are bugged. She then tells her to be careful because she is putting herself in great danger. (Way to go Lucia, getting rid of the competition by letting her take care of Daniel when it would get her killed. It is obvious at this point that Marina will not wake up tomorrow.)
Outside, Carlos tells her that they are being watched. They manage to lose the tail in the traffic.

Marina's place
At the door, Carlos tells her to be very careful and says she is a great woman. She is so going to die. She tells Daniel about the tail. He is sorry for getting her into this. He will find another place to hide tomorrow.

Rafegario's place
The tail apologizes for losing Carlos and Marina. Olegario ask for a description of the woman and realizes that he had seen her with Daniel before.
Later, Liliana and Geraro busts in. Rafegario sends Rosa to her room. Olegario tells them that he knows Daniel is hiding out with a doctorcita. Liliana pretends to not know who she is. Olegario knows Liliana is trying to protect Daniel and reveals that he already knows who Marina Valdez is.

Los Mis

LXV & El Señor
Wow! What an embarrassment of riches for the rest of us -- how fun to look at a single episode as each of you sees it! These two recaps not only complement one another, they serve as a perfect illustration of the anarchy on our page:) More later, (and a response to your lovely historical reflections, LXV), but for now --
¡MUCHÍSIMAS GRACIAS A LOS DOS!

LOS MIZ
El Señor Hombre EC
OOPS! Perdoname. After all the back & forth, I didn't realize you were actually going to do last night's. And look at all the things you got that I neglected: like the dating website they were using to communicate; Genaro's real feelings for Lily; Doc Mallorca's continued preoccupation with his health. I had forgotten these scenes from last night, and they clipped so much from this morning's webcast. (I was wondering how I got through it so fast) You're a hero! Thank you a million times over.

I love your take on Marina: "She is so going to die." I guess I hadn't gone there yet, but I think you might be so right!

NvMv
"the anarchy on our page"—Indeed! Well, if El Señor isn't too irked at me, then I'm a happy camper! And what a treat to get to read his great recap this morning!

Los Miserables

Lxv, I'm not irked at all! I got up late and when I didn't see a recap, I remembered that I had said I could probably do Friday night's. So I did it.

Your recap filled in lots of details for me, because I did not watch it with subtitles. I started to watch on Telemundo's website, but when I saw that part one was less than 4 minutes long, I went to a different source.

-El Señor EC

LOS MIZ
El Señor EC Aha, that explains it! The Telemundo webcast was completely chopped up. But I need those captions. So, gracias de nueveo.

the Miserables

wow, too many recaps, what a blessing!

thanks so much lxv,
you really know how to pull out a chair for us to sit amongst our novela friends.

Neno took quite a blow when Deya told of her pregnancy, but he bounces right back, what a nice guy, (and of course nice guys finish last).

and Carlos went right by that it might be Neno's baby, unless he was included with the other 500 guys.

and thanks as well to -El Señor EC
for a most interesting play-by-play.

ah yes the burn phones and the romantic chat site, (will Marina get jealous?)

and can we start mailing her sympathy cards, but she was so good at disarming Lili, and I'm starting to think she and Daniel should be together.

it's so cool how Lucia makes her usual rounds but creates a save-Daniel network at the same time, this is one incredible woman.

and so bizarre that Lili is protecting Daniel, it's not like she can actually love someone, but more her obsession with any man Lucia goes for.

(remember Lucia's first love, who totally betrayed her, who is now playing Flavio on "Tierra de Reyes")

and could somebody leave the toilet seat up for Fernanda.

General Recapping Theme

Thanks so much, LXV, for the History of Caray, Caray post. I also have been around since Chapel Hill Fiddler was posting on her own blog. Watching these shows has done wonders for my comprehension of spoken Spanish.

I would also like to encourage anyone who watches and comes here to read and/or comment to give recapping a try. They don't have to include everything. When I'm short on time, I condense, condense, condense!

Tierra
Hey my grandma taught me that potato thing Sole's grandma taught her - you rub a cut raw potato on minor burns to soothe them
also works on small cuts - the starch in the potato stops the bleeding so you don't bleed all over the food

Tierra

Flavio walks right into (what looks like a narco compound) the lionesses' den,
Cayetana threatens to call the cops,
Leonardo threatens to kill him (go away Leo)
Flavio threatens to call the cops (for kidnapping)

ok, then Cayetana bribes him to go away,
my love is not for sale, Flavio says,
how 'bout this, she offers him the Gallardo ranch, whoa!
Flavio stumbled on this one but holds true,

hmm, so Cayetana gives in,
but you will have to marry her, this works for Flavio,
now let me see your ID, ut oh, this doesn't work for Flavio using the name Reyes,
but somehow in the end he gets the girl,
and Irina is free, no money, no credit cards, no car, no clothes, well ok,

the General gets in his always honorable 2 cents,
getting Flavio to swear to always treat his girl right,
they shake on it.

on the other side of town Miranda lets it slip that Soledad wasn't planning an abortion,
that with Cayetana's help they took the baby,
Pops is devastated, his heart stops,
and later on his death bed he is bound and determined to tell Veronica the truth,
as Miranda begs and begs, him not too,
he dismisses her and brings Veronica close,
and... dies.

on the other side of the world, those faithful servants of Nena discuss how to dispose of her body, cremation maybe?, as they are already counting their new fortune, (didn't Beatriz recently call her lawyer in to change her will)

and Andrea slips that pic of Samuel that she likes into her purse, I guess his shirt was losing it's charm after it had been cleaned and no longer had his smell.

Arturo's and Sofia's love holds firm, despite the huge secrets they keep from each other,
(Flavio tells him about the Gallardo ranch being owned by Cayetana).

Patricia's producer arrives for his perks, has her pinned to the bed,
but feels a gun on his neck, it's Ulises,
who then pounds him to the ground,
in a fair fight since Roger is holding him,
Patricia is grateful.

later they take him for a ride,
how many girls are you an agent for, 7 ??
ok, a bullet for each,
and Roger gets to dig the hole.

re: recapping I'd like to, but I don't feel comfortable making a commitment to do so regularly. I don't always know ahead of time when I won't have internet access for a while, so committing to a particular day doesn't really work for me. I'd feel really bad if people were counting on me and I let them down.

Because of my odd work schedule I'm seldom tv adjacent for primetime so I watch this in the late night re-run 11 pm my time (MDT)
probably after most of you have already seen it, and I don't have internet at home so I can't come here till the nxt afternoon usually and sometimes not for a couple of days or even a wk.
So I would like to propose this - since Tierra de Reyes doesn't have regular recaps, and since some of us like it , if by the time I get here there's not a recap for the last day (or two, or three - no pressure) and I have something, I will post at least a brief sum up - if I have time
I'm not trying to push anyone else to recap, I just had fun last time and am trying to find a way to recap that works for me
comments? suggestions?

@Anon my CC caps are in English CC3 for Telemundo.
Tierra" Thanks Deb but Sophia has a secret too? What is it? I know Arturo's but not Sophia's. The evil servants re in for a shock Nina changed her will and I bet Samuel gets everything.
Romy

Tierra

Romy - not so much a secret, but Sofia hides her life with Leonardo from Arturo, like his attempted rapes, his threats against Arturo and the baby, and most recently his confession that it was him that set up the car wreck, (although she is working with Fernández on that)

Los Mis

Too much to say, and too little time, argh! Gratitude!!

LXV, Thank you for that wonderful piece of Caray, Caray! history! (And I get it now about the "comment box," thank you!)

El Señor EC: "Pablo reveals to Rodriguez and Maricela that he has been communicating with Daniel via love-chat." Just cracked me up! Thank you!

much i wish to say on all ... alas, readying for our next storm installment. so regular now, i keep the storm-prep bag by the door. oy.

stay well and warm, all in the storm!

to be continued ...

LOS MIZ
El Señor EC: you wrote "Mallorca announces that Ignacio can soon return home to a near normal life." How poignant, here's this consummate professional, who keeps his commitments and deals so fairly & circumspectly with the chaos in other people's lives, about to lose all the normalcy in his own life. Any guesses? I'm thinking MS, Parkinson's. I hope not Lou Gehrig's because that's a fairly quick & gruesome death sentence as these things go.

Dueños
Many thanks, novelera, for your comments about last night's episode. I was confused at first because you labelled the comments "Jueves" rather than "Viernes," so I assumed I had already read them. (I missed your brief announcement earlier.) Of course, when I started to read them "again," I realized that they were for Friday.

Thanks, too, to deb and niecie for the additional comments. I'm a bit confused by Renato's putting the two baddies into his station wagon and pushing it into the water using their truck. Why would he want to have his car in any way connected to two murdered men? It's not as if the station wagon went to the bottom of the ocean. And if it is found, and if the vehicle can be traced to him....

I wonder how/whether Conrado's having seen all the young drug pushers who were shot to death will affect his thinking about what he has gotten into. He seemed quite solemn as he passed the bodies.

I was expecting Gina to get off the bus at the last minute. She didn't, but I'm sure we haven't seen the last of her.

Dueños

Juanita, thanks for pointing out my epic fail in using the wrong day of the week for my mini-recap.

I hadn't thought about the vehicle being traced back to Renato. Come to think of it, I don't remember seeing him drive that one before. Didn't he have a muscle car? Maybe he stole this one for the road trip with Gina.

And thanks much, Deb, for amplifying my token recap. While I'm quite anti-Conrado at the moment, it was funny when he said he wanted to show her that Chileans were better lovers than Mexicans. And I have heard that expression El Dueño and La Dueña used to describe someone's great love. It could be a shortening of Dueño del Corazon, perhaps?

I can't imagine Conrado "rising to the occasion" when Érica's porno comes out. I long to slap Sergio upside the head every time he says something about "erotic art", refusing to admit what a sordid business he's in.

But maybe it's time for Érica to move on anyway. I'm pretty sure Anas is going to succumb to Conrado in the not too distant future. And Mr. Shallow might still have feelings for his wife, but if he's choosing between sexy and rich and sexy and poor (at least right now), it's no contest!

Deb, I loved your idea of Modesta as a reincarnated pirate! She's plenty tough.

DUENOS:

Thanks, Novelera for the fine recap, and I also enjoyed the other comments. I've been taking care of my 3 year old twin grandsons all day (along with my wife), and they're finally asleep and I can get back to the world of adults!

I think that Volvo station wagon Renato sent into the lake was always intended for that purpose, although Gina was supposed to be the occupant. It was probably stolen or untraceable.

I noticed that at one point on the bottom of the screen, there was a poll (maybe just my local station), who should Anas end up with? The results were something like, Conrado 20%, Renato, 70%, Leandro, 10%. Tells you something. I'm rooting for Leandro :)

I don't think the Doctora would sue Sal, since he also saw her in a half state of undress, just about to have sex with the patient. She jumped back, acted as if he was accosting her, but wasn't too convincing. On the other hand, Montalban pointed out that Sal's questioning of Leandro netted a big zero in the way of incriminating evidence.

I think Erica even said "I didn't even go fully nude", implying she was just topless. The whole thing is terrible the way Sergio tricked her, but maybe she'll change character, and become hardened, especially if she finds out about Conrado. I noticed the promo for the film, on the sign on the stage at the showing, said, "The hottest film ever made".

Saul is scum, but the actor is doing an excellent job at it, and also proving that non-goodlooking guys can get acting jobs.

Los Mis

LXV & El Señor, thank you both! I agree with NvMv, your recaps were perfect complements.

And i had the same thought as El Señor that Marina's time may be up. Couldn't miss the number of times in one episode she was thanked for helping Daniel and putting herself at risk. I guess despite her bad run-ins with Lucha, she may depart the tn on good terms.

Spanish student

P.s. Thanks to all recappers for your hard work and committment. You are definitely appreciated. I'm hoping i can jump in and do a Friday recap before Los Mis ends in March.

LOS MIZ
Aficionada Thanks for the ALS news; this would be quite a breakthrough. That disease is truly a horror, although there is some pretty hi-tech supportive care available now that we didn't have 30 years ago, unfortunately there's no stopping its devastating progress. I sure hope our good Doc Mallorca is suffering from something a little less scary.

It occurs to me that you work the night shift? Have a safe commute home this morning; it's slippery out. Still snowing down here in NYC, but we are nowhere near as stricken as Massachusetts.

Los Mis

Okay. I just indulged myself by re-reading the two splendid recaps from Friday as well as Aficionada's night owl comment. We certainly have some perceptive folks in our little peanut gallery.

El Señor, yes, Marina is so going to die! I was thinking that she was doomed -- I even had a line to that effect in Thursday's recap -- but I deleted it so the plot could play out a bit more. Not only have we been hit over the head with foreshadowing, there is the fact that, as Carlos used to say over on the Uni side of the fence, this Marina character is so very INCONVENIENT.

LXV, I was so happy that you included the expression Deya used ("éramos muchos y parió la abuela") -- language is really why I came here in the first place, though not necessarily what keeps me coming back these days -- and enjoyed your reflections on your brother's situation. I came across a synonym for the idiom: ¡Lo que nos faltaba! (Just what we needed ... not!) [I loves me my irony!] And I'm also glad you reminded us that Lily tried to insult Marisela by calling her a "marimacha" -- in fact, she did so three times and even accused Marisela of having a 'thing' for her! ("¿No será que te gusto?")

The dating website that Pablo and Daniel are using to communicate is called Emparejando dot com, which means, roughly, "hooking up."

In general, I have been thinking about the role of empathy to define character in this novela. Our archvillains, Lily and el Diablo, are both remarkable for their inability to feel someone else's suffering. They both have their moments of sorrow, but the sorrow comes from self-pity. The same is true of vile Radamés.

Genaro, as horrible as he is, does have moments of empathy, especially where Lily is concerned. It's not enough to redeem him, but it suggests he will end up in a different circle of hell than his bosses.

And then there are the brujas like Marina and Fernanda -- we despise their tendency to self-pity and insistence on making everything about themselves. Even so, Fernanda has shown flashes of empathy, and Marina is likely to do so before that anvil falls.

Abel grows as a character as his ability to empathize increases and he breaks out of his bubble of self-involvement.

Just a thought...

GENERAL HISTORY OF THIS BLOG

On May 26, 2009, Cap'n Sylvia Sharkbait wrote in a comment to Jean's posting on Doña Barbara:

"Did you all know that Jean was the first person ever to post a recap on Cary, Caray!? Congratulations Jean, on the strength of your voice."

Sylvia was referring to Jean's recap of the dreadful "Barrera de Amor." It was after Jane's virtuoso recapping of Alborada, yes, but it was the first official entry to the newborn blog. Check out the sidebar on the front page of Caray -- you may be surprised by all that Jean has contributed to this project over the years.

It was when El Clon ended and we realized we had a core of Telemundo fans hungry to follow the primetime lineup but we didn't have a quorum of recappers for individual shows, that we decided to experiment with a blanket discussion page open for informal "recapettes." The page has been in flux since then. Sometimes a show comes along (like both Reinas -- de Corazones and del Sur) that attracts a crowd. Sometimes a we have so few people over here that we wonder why we even bother putting up a page.

I have to say I'm thrilled that lately there have been so many people are showing up and expressing their willingness to contribute when they can -- Yay for new voices!

General History of the Blog

I am happy that there is a Telemundo page everyweek. The recaps and comments here have helped to keep me interested in Los Miserables. I look forward to watching each episode and then seeing how others interpreted what they saw.

I think there is enough interest here to have a separate weekly page for each telenovela. Although I must admit that my intent after Los Miserables is finished is to re-watch all of Los Miserables before moving on to another telenovela. But who knows...

GENERAL HISTORY OF THE BLOG

El Señor EC
It's great having you along for the ride. I'm a big fan of your recaps and always enjoy your comments.

I get what you are saying about having separate pages for each show. Still, Jean and I are always reluctant to split the page if we don't have to. I think there's a kind of cross-fertilization going on because many people are watching 2 or 3 shows, even if they are only actively commenting on one.

Even so, if the comments routinely exceed 200, we do tend to put up a continuing Page Two. So we take it week by week.

Los Mis

LXV, Thank you so much for your concern! I am home safe now, whew! It proved impossible to travel yesterday, so I just stayed on. I am relief, sometimes swing, sometimes night, for caregivers. But with these storms, and the relentless freeze, it has become chaos! It has caused everything, in every way, really, to be unpredictable. My time is flexible, so I often stay on. Others will make it up to me come better weather, though :D I can't wait!

You have had it rough there, too, I have seen. Do you also have mountains of snow piled all around, obstinate in the arctic air? It must be hell in the city!
You, please, take care and stay warm!

The ALS news is exciting, but of course still a long road ahead. It does seem they are close to stopping, and even reversing its progress in many forms, if not an outright cure … yet.
In Doctor Mallorca's case, what about Huntington's? Onset age, ~35; more hereditary … ??

Whichever it might be, I do not want our dear doctor to suffer!!

Ay, much to read here, GREAT POSTS, ALL!! I LOVE learning the history of Caray, Caray!! ¡Muchas gracias!

spanish student: I would be thrilled to give up my "regular" Friday spot for a recap from you. Just say when. That said, I WILL do one for tonight's show, as usual, look for it around noon tomorrow (that would be Tues)

What a lot of wonderful comments! Thanks NvMv & novelera for your first-hand recollections of Caray Caray's proud history. I remember what a hit El Clon was and how it kind of broke the Univision monopoly. And kudos to NvMv & Jean for doing the behind-the-scenes work required to give us our in the first place. Which reminds me, I hope my comments here will get read at all because we are about to start the new week. I'm counting on folks to check back once we've moved on.

Los Mis

LXV, I can recap this Friday and post it by early Saturday afternoon.

I don't know if this link will work, but it's worth a try:

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/02/22/magazine/how-to-cry-on-command.html

Yesterday's New York Times Magazine has a little interview with ANA BRENDA CONTRERAS about how to cry in a telenovela. She covers the fine points (waterproof mascara, getting that one perfect tear, how to make yourself sad even when you're happy as a clam...). Check it out.
