Blog mom's "Guau! Award" contest open to all! Glory and prizes!

Hi friends,

I have been too busy/sick to follow ANY telenovelas for quite a while. I am offering an award for the best telenovela summary mailed to me to help get me back in the groove. Here are the rules:
  1. 150 words or less;
  2. Must be a telenovela which is currently running on Univision or Telemundo;
  3. As many lurid, ridiculous, amusing details as possible;
  4. Excellent cliffhanger ending (you don't have to end where the novela currently is at - anywhere up to the current point will do).
  5. Submit your entry before March 20.
Mail your entry to caray@mappamundi.com I will announce the winner on March 22. Winner gets:
  1. Free downloads of any two of my cds, anything available on my Skylark Productions record label site;
  2. A link to your synopsis from the sidebar;
  3. The accolades of your fellow travelers.

I will post the winning entry on the blog, and also the two best runners-up.

Any questions? Really hoping a lot of you will take up the challenge!!

Love, Jane

Jane- So sorry to hear you've been ill, but glad to see you're on the mend now. Great challenge too! There are some really witty writers on this blog, so I'm looking forward to reading what's submitted.

Sorry you've been sick but I hope you're on the way to recovery. I'm looking forward to the results as well.

Ooh, awesome prizes! (Seriously, people, go take a listen if you need additional motivation!)

150 words? That's gonna take some thought....

Is 150 words too many or too few? I only want delightful nuggets! Coherence is secondary!

Well, if coherence is secondary then that's far less intimidating! I've never been good at using fewer words when I could use more :p

Think poetry rather than prose, or stream of consciousness. Incomplete sentences are fine. Amusement is the principle goal.

Jane, glad to hear that you are feeling better and are back. This sounds like a lot of fun! Thanks for a fun opportunity!

Jane..Sorry to hear that you have not been feeling well and hope that you are on the mend. Reflecting on your excellent recaps of Alborada, I am hoping that there is no swelling of the humid zones that Diego suffered with. Your challenge sounds interesting....''It was a dark and stormy noche....'' ---Susanlynn, pondering

Jane--We hope that the entries will make you laugh, cry, giggle, snort and snark.

I'll never win anything. I've been accused of being too wordy.

"... from the inky shadows, a hand grasps his arm and he hears these words:" Where is your other arm? [Apologies to Car Talk and La Sombra del Pasado]

That used up 3/4 of our quota. Dang!

Jane,
how about posting the best submission for each novela once you have chosen a winner? that way the rest of us can enjoy some of the submissions... can't wait.
of course glad you are feeling better and ready to get back in the groove.

Well, I just hope I get some submissions! I will be sad if nobody sends me one. :(

Jane, not to worry, you will get some. I not up to it, but think its good idea and look forward to reading the entries.

I just sent one to Jane. I know I'm not clever by half, compared to some of out commenters and recappers, so come on folks, send your entries to Jane!

Jane--About those 150 words...

Were you reading all the Haiku poetry we created during La Tempestad? It was a riot. A lot CAN be said in FEW words (just not me).

Hi Anita, no, I didn't see it. Did you collect all your haiku in one place? I would put a link to that on the sidebar!

Jane--There's no need to put it on the sidebar. Just a mention on your front page of winners might be enough (right Vivi?).

They were Haiku + Limericks and a whole bunch of comments lifted from La Temp--ones that La Temp lovers will get (if they remember back that far), although some of the offerings are universal.

It appeared in that Special Edition at:

http://caraycaray.blogspot.com/2013/10/la-tempestad-extra-confidencial-issue-1.html

The Poetry Corner is almost at the bottom.

There are quite a few missing, because a second issue was never "published" and they are still sitting in one of my Word docs.

Many of our snarkier entries were published within the recaps as offerings from The Storm Cellar™

We also compiled an exhaustive list of DamFab's names.

We really had a lot of fun with LaTemp. Regrettably, there haven't been many of that quality to snark about since then.

These comments were among my favorites (not published). I sure hope all this is making you feel better and not worse for having started this blog. You have inspired great creativity, blogmama!

On Words and Bingo (two words you’d never have thought could go together)
We may sit on the patio of lowered expectations for our beloved TNs but recaps like EJ’s and the others exceed the sky high expectations I have come to expect! What a bright, literary bunch you folks are! I was an English major in college yet had never heard (or have since forgot) the word trope! Is it sad to say this blog is my main source of education these days?! [Katy]

And the Ursine scholarship is impressive. I was the one in the corner dressed like a crab and I was advocating for the Disney Sea Witch origin of Ursula, but I was drowned out by drunken shouts of "DA BEARS!!!" Ah well, ursus horribilis it is. [NovelaMaven]

Can Hernan become any more unctuous? Think Tia Becky needs to give him a good slapdown. [Diana, Goddess of Wisdom] (The editorial board just had to include the wonderful word unctuous, just because it’s there—it’s not used enough in erudite colloquy [and I didn’t even need Henry James to get this one before you did, NM]. Webster’s def. 1— oily, smooth and greasy in texture or appearance; 2—rich in organic matter and easily workable. Obviously def. 1 fits Hernan best)

And Vivi, thanks so much for finding those bingo cards! HILARIOUS! I think we have covered an entire board in the past three episodes (kissing on beach, set something on fire, one of characters says name of TN, galan in hospital). Come to think of it, maybe that's how the writers write this show....with Bingo cards. "Have we used B3 yet? It's time!" [Katy]

Katy, I think you are on to something. You seem to have discovered the secret of the telenovela writers....bingo cards. BINGO. !!! [Susanlynn]

Anita- Ahh! Thanks for reminding us of the haiku and limericks we created for La Tempestad. What a lot of fun that was! (I'm being serious, not snarky.)

I can't remember who was recapping El Talisman, but surely they could come up with something. I still remember someone providing a backstory for poor, are-they-even-capitalists Doris, and the "Quien es mas tonta?" game. Not sure I have what it takes to contribute, but I'm looking forward to reading!

Kelly--El Tal was the best worst telenovela of all time (until CI and Gata came along). We did have a great time.

After 28 episodes, the execs at UNI banished El Tal to daytime. Most of our creative writers stayed with the evening hour and El Tal had to limp along with folks who were willing to "do it" in daytime. On the last evening together, there was a farewell.

Haiku recap by NovelaMaven.
Crap.
Qué tal those limpid pools now
only AlcaTrash

El Tal was taken up by a new crop (and had to deal with crap) of recappers, with the aid of some old stalwarts. Some are still active today.

If you want to take a look at the post mortem, it's here and funny-sad (note--the entries exceed blogmom's 150 word rule):

http://caraycaray.blogspot.com/2012/06/el-talisman-post-mortem-last-gasp-6-19.html

Kelly--I didn't see your comment on the Post Mortem. You chided the editor for neglecting to offer high-heeled sneakers at Tal*Mart.

Were you there for all the *fun*?

Anita- I was! I was unemployed at the time and El Tal was a high point of my days. Pablo Azar has turned in to a much better actor that I wouldn't mind seeing as twins again. Haha! Twins! Gawd, I loved that show.
