La Sombra del Pasado #24 3-20-15 A Sanctuary without Peace

Rewind
Humberto says nobody in the house values what he does!  Val says her father is trying to swindle the father of the man she’s going to marry!  She thinks this can affect her marriage to Cristobal!

In a tearful embrace, Adelina asks Aldonza to pardon her if she ever in the future fails her or is not forthright with her.

Moving Forward
Padre Jeronimo and Lulu are in the Church office looking for  baptismal records of children born the year his brother died, 1988.  He pours through the first of three large 3 ring binders she locates.

Lola seeks advice from  Doña Irma on how to snag that special man.  Irma shares how she took the initiative, set the bait and reeled in Uriel.  Lola is surprised that Irma is so liberal in her thinking.  Well, appearances can be deceiving or, as the saying goes:  caras vemos, corazones no sabemos;   we see faces, but we don’t know the hearts.

Ay, pobrecito de Cris, he can’t have one private moment or thought.  Cande has invaded his room to ask him if he still feels anything for Aldonza and he blows a gasket!  He’s tired of everybody asking him the same thing over and over!  She asks if he’s not interested in her, why is he so pissed?  Candela should go back and read the first sentence in this paragraph!  Cande advises that his reaction is abnormal, as is his doubt in his Father’s Word, which Cris denies.  Cande looks down her nose and asks him to think about what he’s saying and he’ll realize SHE is right.  Cris seems to subtly gasp for the air Candela has sucked out of the room.  She leaves and he takes the escapulario from his neck, looks at it and then flings it on the floor.  He gets up, throws his hands in the air and wonders aloud what the heck is happening to him now.

Elsewhere in Las Animas Melesio is in the studio with Don Sev asking him to  fire that itinerant asshole, Abelardo, who has done nothing but stir up trouble.  Melesio questions Sev’s plan for Lardo to ruffle Cris’s feathers thus enticing Cris to stay.  This only serves to piss Sev off.  He stands and waves his riding crop in Melesio’s face and reminds him HE is the one who gives orders around here.  Lardo stays!  Melesio excuses himself and leaves the study as Cande sweeps in.  She sits down, folds her arms and informs Sev that Cris went to talk to Aldonza about his (unfortunately not deep enough) skewering.  Sev asks what did she expect?   And he talked to Humberto.  Neither knows what Humberto said but Sev says he wouldn’t be surprised if Humberto takes “that woman’s” side.  Why?  I didn’t quite get this but the music of doom played when Sev said it, something about, today your cousin is going to bring up the matter of El Santuario.  Please help.

Melesio commiserates with Dominga about Sev’s recent behavior.  He always thought he was sensible and level headed but he seems to be making bad decisions of late.  Melesio can’t understand why Sev has hired the good for nothing Lardo who’s making Cris’s life difficult.  Mel would never do such a thing to his own flesh and blood:   it’s as if Sev is purposely putting obstacles in Cris’s path.  Speaking of flesh and blood, where is Lola?  She goes off to look for her.

Well, Lola is a quick study and is about to put some moves on Emanuel’s flesh and hopefully redirect the flow of his blood!  She spies him tending the horses.  She stands prettily and casually posed, propping up the stable wall as Emanuel comes out of a stall.  He asks if her bad mood of the morning is gone.  It is?  Good.  He wants to make it clear to her that they are good friends, he cares about her a lot and she can always count on him.  Lola is like, “Ya big dummy!  You’re the only one that can’t see that I look at you as more than a friend.”  She decides to demonstrate, grabs his face to steady him and plants a big ol’ smackeroo on him.  At first Emanuel seems to resist or even be confused but begins to get into it as Lola presses herself against him, moving her hands from his face to embrace him around the neck and his hands move to gently caress and grasp her hair.  Emanuel has leaned into the kiss and is shifting gears.  Aw, work it, children!   Ooops!  Bus-ted!  It’s Dominga at the head of the stairs!  Emanuel and Lola bound apart like their bodies were spring-loaded!  Later in the kitchen Lola gets the third degree about the kiss and Emanuel’s sudden interest in her.  Well, it just kinda struck him like lightening and he realizes what a catch she is.  Dominga threatens a severe tunda (spanking) if Lola gets too easy with Emanuel.  Wait a minute, how old is Lola?  Tunda, really?

This same night elsewhere in Santa Lucia Cris seems to be waiting outside some building of some sort, don’t know if that’s relevant when a sobbing, snotting Vale approaches him.  Cris puts his arm around her and they go off to talk about what’s got her so upset she wants to die.

Dominga makes her way down the staircase which overlooks the stable.  El Soletario, Emanuel’s equine buddy, has been interested in the goings on as well and we get a look at that beauty close up; he is darling with his large eye and his blond mane braided.  Dominga fusses at Lola but Emanuel stops her.  HE was the one who kissed Lola.  Dominga wants to know since when has he felt the right to go around kissing her granddaughter?  Emanuel answers since he realized he is interested in her.  Well!  Dominga doesn’t like that he expresses his interest in dark, hidden corners and drags Lola away but not before a beautiful smile dawns on her face.  Is Emanuel awed, surprised or displeased?

Humberto comes a calling to Uriel’s house to ask what’s holding up his loan.  He needs it not only for the wedding but to settle another matter which he doesn’t want to share with Uriel.  Uriel insists the law demands full disclosure for such a sum.  Humberto protests that he told him he could offer the house at El Santuario and he intends to pay back every cent.  Things don’t work like that Uriel says; let him think of a way he can help Humberto.  Humberto says the problem is he has a debt and his daughter’s engagement.  Uriel will see what he can do.   They shake and Humberto takes his leave.

Padre Jeronimo is still going through the baptismal records when Aldonza enters his office and offers to help.  Aldonza is fascinated and amused to find her and Cris’s baptismal certificates and is surprised to see they were baptized on the same day.  Padre answers that they were and they have many things in common.  Ok, that kills Aldonza’s interest:  she doesn’t have anything in common with him and slaps the book shut.  Why is he looking at all this stuff anyway?  Padre decides he’ll call it a day for his search.  They leave the office.

Cris and Vale talk about what has her so upset.  She has learned that El Santuario really belongs to his father because he paid for it only using her father’s name on the deed.  Now they are fighting over it and she is afraid this could jeopardize their wedding.  Cris thinks this is not their fight and has nothing to do with them.  She wants him to promise her they will marry.  He doesn’t promise but says they WILL get married with, or without anybody's consent!  They kiss.  Vale still has him.  For now.

Candela and Severiano sit down to eat dinner.  She sweetly cuts Sev’s food up for him and promptly flushes both their appetites down the toilet by scolding him for talking to Vale and Pru about El Santuario just before Cris and Vale’s wedding.   She maintains the timing for his doing this is complicated because Aldonza Alcocer is out running after their son.  Do a slow mo and see how far Sev rolls his eyes back in his head.  He has had it up to these rolling eyeballs with Aldonza Alcocer, Aldonza Alcocer, Aldonza Alcocer!  First, it was Roberta Lozada and now Aldonza Alcocer!  What the hell does she want him to do!Whatever it takes to defend their son’s future!  Something has to be done and she is capable of anything to do away with this menace that keeps her awake at night!  She slams the napkin on the table and heists her righteously angry arse from the dining room.  [Pardon me for being a little indelicate but I think if you take down the braid and get yourself laid you could sleep just fine!]

Nighttime at the parsonage, Aldonza kisses her Tia and Tio goodnight and asks Tio when the arrangements will be done for the interment.  Tio thinks tomorrow.  Adelina thanks Padre for not saying anything to Aldonza about her revelations of Roberta’s baby.  Padre J vows he will do everything in his power to find the child and when he does he will have to tell Aldonza the truth!

Sev is enjoying a little game of one-handed chess.  Cris stops in to talk to him about what he learned from Vale about El Santuario.  Cris says Sev is using his compadre.  Sev explains the transaction had to be done that way because Roberta would not sell to him.  Sev reminds Cris that Roberta accused him of setting fire to the huerto.  Cris asks, “Well, did you?” and Sev answers with a resounding slap which snatches Crises head and reduces him to a glistening-eyed five year old.  Sev yells at Cris that he is to NEVER to question his honesty and integrity or disrespect him like this ever again!  Sev tells Cris he is the most beloved thing he has in the world and he has never laid a hand on him before but he earned this.  Cris weakly says it was only a question.  Sev says no, he knows very well it was not just a question.  Sev asks to be left alone; his red-rimmed eyes stare into the distance as he sweeps his chess pieces to the floor.

Morning has broken and Lola, in a tasteful but flirty blouse which bares her pretty shoulders stops by to see Emanuel.  She holds his excited eyes with her own sweetly smiling ones.  She thanks him for defending her last night.  Emanuel is about to open up to her about last night when Mel interrupts him.  Dang on it!  I didn’t quite catch what it is they made a date for tonight.  Help again, please.  Anywho,  Mel lets Emanuel know that if his intentions are serious about his granddaughter, he has his support but heaven help him if he hurts her!  Emanuel nods his understanding.

Who knows how Cris’s life would change if he could have just the minutest modicum of privacy?  Now Dominga is in his room and with consternation regards the escapulario he threw on the floor earlier.  Enter Candela looking for Cris and expressing doubt when Dominga tells her he’s somewhere around the hacienda.  She gets what she was really looking for:  Aldonza’s address.  Dominga tells her but wonders why she’s interested.  One of our friends on the patio noted earlier that Dominga is unaware that Cande is a founding member of the Santa Lucia Bitch Club; perhaps she still sees the little niña she cared for so long ago or else she wouldn’t so easily share things about Aldonza.  Cande’s nose guides her out of the room while Dominga continues to look sadly at the escapulario. . .

. . .the twin half of which Adelina holds in her outstretched hand towards Aldonza.  Adelina wonders why she no longer wears it.  Aldonza prefers to wear the locket her Mama gave her and besides, The Virgin has not helped her much.  Adelina scolds her and then more gently admonishes her to let go of the self-destructive bitterness she holds inside.  Adelina tenderly kisses Aldonza’s forehead.

Emanuel is taking a break at the side of a sparkling lake where Cris finds him, pensive.  Emanuel answers Cris that he’s about to be embroiled in a big problem.    It involves Lola.

We are whisked to the parsonage where Lola bursts into the apartment gleefully announcing to Aldonza that Emanuel kissed her!  Well, she started it but he responded!  They were right smack dab in the middle of it when Abuelita interrupted them!

Oh no, just as I feared.  Emanuel confides in Cris that Lola is sweet and all that but he likes another type of woman.  Like Valeria, Cris asks?  No.  Aldonza comes to mind!  Well, that killed the hermano vibe and Cris suddenly remembers there’s work to do, so hop to it!  Cris strides away.  Cris, thou canst not have thine cake and eateth too!

Double “Oh No!”  Poor Lola is gushing with Aldonza about the butterflies she felt from the kiss and that this is the beginning of a great love!  Aldonza wishes them well and is sure it will go splendidly!  Ooops!  Lola is late for work and rushes out the door, leaving her purse.  Aldonza grabs it and goes to catch her when there’s a knock at the door.  Why am I sure it’s not the Welcome Wagon?  Oh Lord, it’s Candela!

Hmmm.  Seems every Friday when I recap it’s the Candidiasis show!  Well, I guess that beats Lard for Brains-o!  Cande has come to pay Aldonza to skidaddle para siempre!  I love how Aldonza’s beautiful, clear brown, but fierce eyes never waver as she names increasingly higher prices until Cande realizes she’s being invited to do to herself what no man has done for twenty years.  Cande is livid, her nostrils flare and Aldonza smiles.

We have a brief but satisfying encounter between Joaquin’s wife, Flavia, founding member of the lower case bitch club, and Adelina.  Flavia is insulted that Adelina wanted to buy a treat for little Raimundo and warns Adelina to stay away from her man!  The satisfaction comes in seeing that sweet Adelina knows how to use her claws and she leaves Flavia with something to think about:  Too bad she has such a fine man as Joacquin and doesn’t have sense enough to trust him.  She must be so insecure!  With that Adelina does a dignified about face and leaves Flavia con la diabla en la boca!  (She doesn't deserve Jesus en la boca!BAM!  Flavia stomps off fairly dragging little Raimundo.

Back to the Cande/Aldonza face off.  During this whole interchange Lola is standing behind Cande taking in the whole thing!  Aldonza asks why she is so afraid of her.  It’s because she saw what Aldonza did to her son once before and she doesn’t intend to let her try it again.  With feigned amusement Cande says that’s why Aldonza is here, not to bury her mother.  Aldonza takes a step towards Cande and tells her never to mention her mother again.  Cande asks how did she find out Cris was marrying; has she been tracking him down?  Aldonza says the only enemy Cristobal has is her, his own mother, who wants to treat him like he’s a little boy and control every aspect of his life.  Cande doesn’t have to worry about her and she wonders why Cande has so little confidence in Cris; isn’t he in love with his future wife?  Cande spits that he is and much more than he ever was with her but a temptation never ceases to be a threat to a marriage.  Aldonza says it’s a pity she knows Cristobal better than his own mother:  you should know that if Cris is truly in love neither I nor anyone else can stop him from marrying Valeria.

Cande:  I’m warning you, if you dare to get near him---

Aldonza:  No, I’m warning you!  If you or your husband try to hurt me or any member of my family this time I’m not leaving!   I confess that I did not only return to bury my mother but to seek justice against those who ruined my family!

Cande:  Are you threatening me?

Aldonza:  No, I’m making a promise now do me a favor and get out of my face!

Cande:  This is not going to end this way!

Lola runs back to Aldonza’s after Cande leaves and her explosive Lolaness makes Aldonza laugh and release some negative energy!   The nerve of that woman!  Can you believe she came here to tell me I was interested in her son!  Welllll, goes Lola’s face!  Aldonza doesn’t want to hear it but Lola insists Cris is interested.  Aldonza tries to remain cool as she asks if Cris told her anything.  Lola knows Cris very well and has observed his body language when Aldonza’s name is mentioned.  One particular time was when Lola was telling Dominga about Aldonza having been seen in the town square with an unknown hunk.  Lola caught Cris listening and he seemed crestfallen.  This is what I think she said:  this girl fires slang like it’s the Fourth of July, or Cinco de Mayo!  Lola thinks Candela has provided evidence that Cris does feel something for her because, como dice el dicho, Donde hubo fuego, caricias quedan.  Where there was fire, caresses remain.  Ah, nice reflection back to the night of the huerto fire!  Lola thinks Aldonza has that same longing look that Cris has.  All through this little recital Aldonza’s eyes were shining but she reins in her eyes and tells Lola not to dare tell Cris that his mom came to “welcome her” to Santa Lucia.

Cande has arrived back home from her mission of misery to a pleading Pru who does not want the feud between their husbands to derail the wedding.  Pru wants Cande to know that neither she nor Valeria are in agreement with what Humberto is doing and until he changes his mind she and Humberto are living according to “La ley del hielo.  She’s cut him off; no gravy train; beyond blocking all the way to freezing. . .well, it takes Cande a while to get it because unless she’s got a well-kept secret, this is her way of life evaday!  Cande says she must convince Humberto that these lands will be his daughter’s inheritance!  Oh, Pru tried but Humberto won’t listen to reason and poor Valeria just can’t sleep at night worried that this will stop the wedding.  Cande reassures her it won’t; Cande will talk to Vale to calm her down and she cautions Pru not to air this dispute publicly.  Pru is offended and she swears if this is not resolved, Humberto will lose her forever!

Lola arrives late to work and charms herself out of trouble and updates Irma on how she followed her advice and it led to a kiss!  Who’s the lucky guy, Irma asks!  It’s Emanuel.  Mary has walked up just in time to hear the whole thing.  Mary runs away in shock and pain!

Well, remember when Uriel, the Banker, promised Humberto he would see what he could do to help him with the financial bind he was in?  What Uriel did was go to talk to Severiano.  Uriel lays the whole situation before Sev who acts like he’s just hearing it.  Humberto is seeking a loan, a big one to cover his daughter’s wedding and another debt that he owes.  He’s offered the house as collateral but they have to make sure it’s clear of any liens or other legal impediments.  I believe Uriel is asking if Sev will cosign on the line of credit or loan that Humberto has applied for.  Well, Sev just has to tell him the truth and he must swear what he is about to say doesn’t go outside this room:  Humberto can’t take out a mortgage on El Santuario because it’s not his.  Sev paid for it, it is Humberto’s in name only but he bought it and Humberto has not paid back one cent of the loan to him.  Humberto is in debt to HIM.  To cosign on this line of credit will only insure that Humberto drowns in his financial troubles and Sev doesn’t think the bank can cover it if Humberto defaults.

Over in Humberto's office, Pru is on her promised mission:  she DEMANDS that Humberto gives back El Santuario!  No way!  Sev conveniently forgets the things Humberto has done for him.  Pru smells a juicy morsel but can’t get it out of Humberto.  She lays out her next hand:  If you don’t give it back, the wedding can be cancelled!  Well cancel it then!  Our daughter is not merchandise!  If they are so in love with each other, a piece of land is not going to stop them from marrying!  Humberto stands firm:  he is NOT going to give the land back to Sev, he’s going to pay him every cent for it!

Pru whips out her winning hand.  “Well!  This leaves me no other alternative than to ask for a divorce!”

“Where do I sign?”

Wonk!  Wonk!

Hey, y'all! Here it is. I'll see ya in the morning. Loving my girl, Aldonza, she doesn't run around weeping with her hand to her forehead: she's thrown down the gauntlet!

Who's next to slap Cris? I wish that boy could get an apartment or something! Bet he wishes he were back in Spain, WITHOUT Vale!

I wait until the last week of winter to get a flu. Please send me some positive vibes, y'all and right back at anyone else who needs 'em!

Lila))))))))))))))))))))

Gracias Lila! I giggled through the entire recap! What a great episode to send us off into the weekend! Will comment more in the morning, but for now, mil gracias!

I see that Abrat from PSMA is wreaking havoc in this TN!

Lila, you have the flu? Hope you feel better! Positive vibes heading your way! It sure didn't blunt your great recapping skills. Thank you very much.

I think that if Doc had one tenth the duplicitous nature of Sev, when the ownership of the property came up, all he would need to do would be to lean forward and say, "Let's talk about a certain dead priest."

Aldonza rocked last night in her confrontation with Cande. Not only did Cande display her weakness, but Aldonza showed a strength of character that Cande is ill equipped to deal with.

Poor Lola. Getting her hopes up on a lost cause? Or will something develop here? And Emm trying to be nice to everyone, creating a dilemma for himself.

Sev slapping Cris! So inappropriate. I hope this makes Cris wonder about dear ole' dad.

Thanks again, Lila, and I hope you feel better!

David

Lila- Another fantastic recap from you this week while you are under the weather. I would really never know you are sick, because your recaps still shine and sparkle.

I got home late, but still had to watch my recording of this show. I'm glad I did, because that last scene and Doc Humberto's last words made me laugh so hard. Also giving me warm fuzzies were the previews of Doc agreeing to rent the house and land to Aldonza, and of course the memory of Aldonza's verbal smackdown of Cande this episode. Didn't Cande learn from the last time that you don't walk into Aldonza's house and insult her without expecting to be paid in kind? I'm surprised her cheek isn't still stinging from the slap from a few years back.

Emmanuel, Emmanuel...tsk, tsk. I think in his head he wants a certain kind of woman, haughty and unattainable, like Val and Aldonza. But I think a few more uninterrupted kisses from Lola will show him who he REALLY wants to be with, and kiss, and caress, and...well, you know.

Love it Lila

"[Pardon me for being a little indelicate but I think if you take down the braid and get yourself laid you could sleep just fine!]"

"Lard for Brains-o"

Pru - read em and weep, I got a pair of 2's

Humberto - there is a god

Aldonza - "go ahead punk make my day"

Cris - can't a boy take a piss in private

Emmanuel - chivalry has its problems

Lola - take a bull by its.....

Val - snot hag

Cande - Cande Pain

Severiano - should see me eat corn on the cob

David- Not only could Humberto bring up the dead priest, but also the real way Sever lost an arm, and a certain missing love child. But perhaps he senses he'd end up as dead as Padre Sixto if he did. Still, considering that he knows what Sever is capable of, stubbornly holding on to the land is risky. But I guess it's his insurance in a way, because it's not like Sever would automatically get the land back if he killed Humberto.

Cris made the right assumption that Sever was indeed behind the fire, but did Sever's display of righteous indignation really convince him of Sever's innocence? Come on, Cris! This whole thing stinks from a mile away. You know in your heart that your dad financially ruined Roberta and then took advantage of it to get her land, and used Doc as a cover. There is nothing to have doubts about.

Lila, that was brilliant! I watched the whole capitulo and was still riveted by the recap! I'm sorry you're sick and I'm beaming out positive vibes through cyber space for your speedy recovery :)

Whoo! Great Friday episode! I gotta say the Lola/Emmanuel kiss was the true fire for me! That sucker could've taken the whole stable up in flames! How is Emmanuel not on board this love train?! This whole section had me giggling like Lola: Aw, work it, children! Ooops! Bus-ted! It’s Dominga at the head of the stairs! Emanuel and Lola bound apart like their bodies were spring-loaded!

Aldonza was also on fire last night! Girl told Cande what's what and I was in awe. She clearly graduated with honors from that school of hers, they just failed to mention her minor in Dealing with B******. (She's definitely got the mean girl smirk; I feel sure we'll see her pop up in a villainess role in the near future)

David and Vivi-Absolutely! Is Humberto's just upstanding enough to not do that or has he really not thought about his options on this? I almost feel like he decided to put his foot down to stop Sev walking all over him all of the time, but didn't actually consider that it would go this far.

Pablo played that slap scene last night so well and Lila you described it PERFECTLY. a resounding slap which snatches Crises head and reduces him to a glistening-eyed five year old. Pobre de mi Cristobal! That's exactly what he looked like. Just from his eyes alone it was clear that Sev had never hit him before, so when Sev confirmed, I was like "Man! Pablo is GOOD!" They have really found some good actors for this TN because some of the most touching moments from them have absolutely no lines.

ITA hellashelle. That look in Pablo's/Cris' eyes and face conveyed Cris' hurt and shock perfectly, with no words.

Forgot to mention how much I also loved seeing Adelina's take no crap side with Flavia. Nicely juxtaposed with Aldonza telling Cande off.

Gems, all:

Candela...sweetly cuts Sev’s food up for him and promptly flushes both their appetites down the toilet by scolding him

Who knows how Cris’s life would change if he could have just the minutest modicum of privacy?

Cris, thou canst not have thine cake and eateth too!

I love how you wrote this transition so beautifully: Dominga continues to look sadly at the escapulario. . .
. . .the twin half of which Adelina holds in her outstretched hand towards Aldonza.

I think Lola said Donde hubo fuego, cenizas quedan: Where there was fire, ashes remain. (But I like your interpretation, especially if E's involved!)

HellaShelle- That is the usual saying, but Lola actually played with it and changed it to caresses. That Lola!

Lila you may have that awful flu bug, and I hope you squash that pest soon, but it sure didn't affect your wonderful sense of humor. Lord this recap was awesome!Of course, these episodes are chock full of good stuff every night. Sneeze and you miss something.

That ending was the best! I wanted to applaud Hum. That's the way to get back at his two "bitches be mad". It would be lovely if he did just forget the whole thing and let cards land where they may. Don't hold out hope for this poor man if he does unless he just walks away and never comes back singing Tammy Wynette's D-I-V-O-R-C-E all the way.

Is Sev losing control because, have to say, BIG mistake slapping Cris. (Another great non-speaking moment by these actors as it happened.) That can only confirm to Cris that something is "rotten in Denmark" as dear Will Shakespeare would say.

OK, I'm thinking if there ever is a Lola/Emmanuel end game it isn't going to happen for a good long while. He's a guy, he got into a pretty girl macking on him ( and I'm sure that man has not gotten much action--stupid girls in that town), but if he's not into it and it didn't hit any sparks, have to say that isn't a good sign. From the previews it looks like Mary gets in between them. He mentioning Allie gave me assurance he's feeling that call of the blood thing, but he has no clue why. Man needs a hug...line forms at the right.

And I agree--How old is Lola by the way. Dominga's whole reaction was beyond old-fashioned if she's into her 20's like Allie. Love Irma, though, too bad she raised that evil spawn. Must have been something she ate while pregnant. Affected his genes and brain.

Daisynjay

I got a chuckle out of Cris trying to talk up Lola's good qualities to Emmanuel- She's sweet, super pretty, kinda crazy...ok, totally crazy...

David, thank you! Thank you for the positive vibes and the kind words!

David, you are so right about Doc not knowing how to leverage the goods he has on his "compadre"!

Yes, Aldonza rocked and poor Lola thinks she's going to roll! Oh, why couldn't Emanuel liker her! Darn it!

David, the first thing I thought about Sev's wallop was that Cris is going to get the opposite meaning of Sev's words: you don't slap the crap out of someone and then tell them you are trustworthy and never to forget it! Sheesh! Hope to "see" you later this weekend!
********

Hey, Vivi! Thank you! Girl, didn't you love that scene with Pru and Humberto! I didn't mention it but her face when he asked where he could sign was priceless! And yes, Cande DOES have a LOT of nerve! Cande will be the loser because she thinks she knows who her "enemy" is but she has no idea the kind of woman Aldonza is. Cande is fighting a one-dimensional caricature of a blended Roberta/Aldonza that she's created in her own mind. Aldonza was right that Cande is her son's worst enemy AND her own as well!

Hey, love your evaluation of Emanuel: few more uninterrupted kisses from Lola will show him who he REALLY wants to be with,
********
Tofie! Girl, you are ker-razy! Love Cris, Lola and Sev's items in particular. Thank you so much! I really felt for Cris this episode. Haysoo Creesto! Frickin back off, the boy is a MAN!
********

HellaShelle! Thank you, honey! Thanks for the vibes and the compliment! Didn't you LOVE Aldonza! Oh, I am sooo glad she's standing up the Cande. Making Aldonza swear that she would not let Sev hurt her ever again was the best act of motherly love Roberta could've given her because Aldonza recalls it often and it fuels her courage!
********

Vivi, agree re Adelina letting the air out of that puffed up heffa, Flavia! Yah, that was swee!

Y'all talk among yourselve, I'm gonna go back to bed and wrap myself up in the luuuv y'all are sending me!

:D Later!

Rest up Lila!
(((((((((HUGS!!!!!)))))))

Oh, Hellashelle, thank you for the fire and ashes thing! I had to use the caption and those nitwits said caricias and I thought, oh, that's cool! Hee hee! Thanks!
********
Oh, Vivi, so it WAS on purpose! Okay, caption people are not nitwits!
********
Thanks, Daisy! Thank you so much! Yeah, both Sev and Cande don't know it but they themselves are tearing down the facade of the loving parents who know what's best for Cris AND they're convincing him they're wrong about Aldonza because just in the little time he was close to Aldonza he recognized the goodness and sincerity of her soul. His parents painting her as a low-down, hypnotizing siren will just draw him to her!

Okay. Drugs are wearing off, see y'all later and Thank y'all for the well wishes: I magnify them and reflect them back to YOU!

Lila))))))))))))

I'm shaking my head in delight at your spectacular recap Lila. I savored every word, nuance and wry observations. Brilliant title. Your conversation translations were much appreciated.

All this and you are ill? Sending prayers for a speedy recovery.

Far too many favorites to choose from but "Cris seems to subtly gasp for the air Candela has sucked out of the room", "his (unfortunately not deep enough) skewering" and "heists her righteously angry arse from the dining room" were wonderful.

Like everyone else, I so enjoyed Aldonza's verbal sparring with Cande - her stately countenance and proud words wounding Cande's venomous pride with every utterance.

And yes Vivi, Adelina's quick, biting retort to Flavia showed she is not to be trifled with. Her kinship with Robeta and Aldonza was obvious with every word! I was so proud of her.

hellashelle, the Emmanuel/Lola kiss was so passionate, even the horse had to peek out of the stall to watch! And while he has shown a penchant for cool, unattainable types (as you noted Vivi), I have a sneaking suspicion it is the fiery passionate Lola that he will ultimately end up seeking.

Poor Pru. Never make a threat you aren't prepared to follow through on.

Lila, thank you for making this day a whole lot sunnier!

Diana

Hellashelle.....I agree that was one hot kiss between Emmanuel and Lola. Best one since Jose Antonio (Juan Angle Esparza) and what's her name on CI took a roll in the hay. I loved the comment about Lola not being E's. kind of woman. Once had a boyfriend who, in our farewell address, told me I was not coquettish enough for him. Now a then 50 year old grandma is a little old to be a coquette in my book. Also wondered where a man with very limited English came up with "coquettish?" (QTH)

Thanks Lola for a great eye opener this morning. Am rooting for Lola and Emmanuel more than Aldonza and Chris. I think Renato is a much better catch. Also so want Adelina to find a good man who appreciates her. Am loving La Sombra.

Take good care today Lila, enjoy some down time and get better soon.

Good morning all! Lila, I hope you're feeling better this morning.

There were so many moments from the episode and the recap that got my attention, but I feel like I'd be rehashing the entire thing! Like hellashelle said, it was a great episode for a Friday, with plenty for us to discuss until Monday night (boy is that going to feel like a looooooooong wait!)

Lola and Emmanuel snogging in the stable was one of the high points of the episode for me. "Work it, kids," indeed! I guess Emmanuel is stuck "pretending" to like Lola so she doesn't get in trouble with her grandparents...until the big doofus realizes he IS in love with her. Boys! And the horse that kept trying to steal the scene made it even better...was he saying "look at me!" or "Damnit, Emmanuel, come to your senses!"

Aldonza standing up to Candela (yes, please, loosen those braids and get some toe-curling action going on!) and her FU smile was just perfect. I did think of one "price" she could demand in order to leave town...that Sev go down to the police station and turn himself in as a rapist and Candela get down on her knees in the town square and beg forgiveness for treating Aldonza and her family like dirt. Hey, that's a bargain price! I wonder what Aldonza's "justice" plans are, but I guess we'll hear more on Monday.

And then there was Humberto in the last scene, telling Pru off and asking where to sign!

And pobre Cristobal and his shocked face after he got slapped. I agree with David, that should make him think!

So much good stuff going on in one episode! Will have to check back in later...it's rehearsal time!

OH! Before I forget...you want video? You got video!

PBS Interview

Sev should be on The Slap!

Kat- Thanks so much for the link to the video! You did so well, and looked beautiful- loved those colors on you. The play sounds amazing. How are you even able to spend any time with us on the blog with your rehearsal schedule? Best of luck on the 27th, 28th, and 29th. Break a leg!

Bravo Kat!

8 actors - 50 characters?? It appeared you played many of them yourself!

What an exciting project. I agree wholeheartedly with Vivi - you looked amazing and did an exceptional job.

Wishing you the best of luck next weekend...

Diana

Lila - Thank you for the great recap and los modismos. I watch telenovelas to improve my Spanish and I've now got two new idioms from your recap. I hope you will start feeling better soon. Bless your heart, to write such a wonderful recap while sick. Millones de gracias!

Actually, I need to start writing down words in the dialogue because these characters use a lot with which I am not familiar, but I see them on the CCs.

BTW, is it just me or are these actors talking fast and not-so-much neutral Spanish? I normally don't have this much trouble understanding and hate to rely on CCs.

Sev and that riding crop make me nervous. I wonder if he will use it on anyone?

I'm curious ,was Sev's predcessor Justo also lacking in one hand or was he fine and dandy?

wow, so cool Kat

I meant Justo from El Manatial who was its Sev.

Lila...Thanks so much for that great recap .

I am sending you healing vibrations)))) I can relate. We have been passing some kind of bug around our family for the last month. Be careful because you start feeling better and think that it is over, but it comes back again..,fatigue, coughing, sneezing, headache, sore throat. I am under the weather again as are the four year old and the seven year old. We just cannot get rid of it.

Evidently, it is Slap Cris week...both Val and Sev gave him a good one. How humiliating. He is a grown man. Maybe that slap from Sev will make Cris realize that Sev doth protest too much and is not the Man Cris thought he was. Also, Val's slap shows how desperate she is to control Cris...get in line behind Cris's parents for that honor , Val.

Lila, what a wonderful and riveting recap! If you can produce that while sick, can't wait for the ones you do when you feel better!

Kat, enjoyed your video! The play sounds wonderful--wish I lived where I could see it. Good wishes for all the cast as you perform.

I was trying not to get hooked into La Sombra, but the story, characters, acting and everything are so superior that I can't resist.

Lila, your recap was super and thank you so much as always. Big bravo to all our recappers for the time and effort they put in for our enjoyment.

Diva--that was an amazing interview, thank you for sharing. It was fun to watch you, and the little twinkle in your eye at one point I recognized from your recapping style here on CarayCaray.

Hi, Sombra patio peeps!

Adding to those I've greeted and thanked above, I'd like to thank and give a woot! woot! to Diana's always exquisitely constructed and expressive comments. Love this referring to Aldonza: her stately countenance and proud words wounding Cande's venomous pride
with every utterance.

Thank you Emeraldrose!

Diva, enjoyed your clip on PBS! Not surprised you are such a versatile professional and I feel excited and honored that you share yourself with us. I showed Mr. Lila and said, "This is The Diva, Captain of the recapping team!" Yes!

Thank you for the hugs, well wishes and healing vibes: Vivi, Hellashelle; Doris, Susanlynn and LaPaloma.

Susanlynn, I think you're right: I started getting this mid week, felt somewhat better yesterday and this thing came and got worse even this morning and after breakfast! Derned bug!

La Paloma, yaaaay! please stay and hang with us on the patio. This show is phenomenal!

Cande, Val and Sev are sending clear messages to him that they have a very clear place for Cris in life: they've said it with words, drama and with slaps. Cande hasn't slapped Cris yet but she does much worse. She IS his shadow and wants him to live his life according to her past!

When Cris threw his hands up in his room and after Sev walloped him his face DID show hurt, shock and pain. He did think the separated bedrooms was strange and he felt the chill between his parents put I'm sure he had no idea how dysfunctional his family was. Now they want him to contort himself and fit in their puzzle.

Thanks again, I feel your vibes and back achah!

Lila))))))))

Hey, J! Thanks! Great show last night, wasn't it? They're taking a lot of time to set up the action but that's ok.

Anybody have any ideas about what Aldonza's plan for justice could be?

Diva,

I just saw the clip, I was so excited and surprised that you are an actress in Arizona. I love reading about people who overcome obstacles to be such a great role model. Thank you for spending time with us, and I want to wish you all the best. If I had know a bit sooner, I would've made plans to see this wonderful play.

You are a celebrity!! Guao! Good luck and I know you are going to be fantastic.

Lila, I am only speculating but I think first and foremost, Aldonza plans not to be cowed, to stay as long as she likes. She has succeeded in part of her plans already by besting both Val and Cande, utilizing her poise and wit to great advantage.

I think she will fight to regain her family home as well.

We are privvy to the fact she and Cris are likely destined to be together but as of now, I suspect he is not part of her plan. She is still too afraid of Sev (totally understandable) to weave a vengeance plot, (likely too strong a word for her), but am sure he is on her radar.

Diana

Thank you, Diana. Sounds very reasonable. You are right: after what she went through to not be cowed and to handle their attacks with poise and wit, as you say, is very effective! It reminds me of that old saying: Living well is the best revenge! But she's seeking to live well for her own benefit. That it galls Vale and Sev, especially, is all the better.

*meant to say it galls Vale and Cande.

Viva - thanks for the correction. Lila, sorry for the confusion. It is a cute play on words :)

I double checked these two:

Neither knows what Humberto said but Sev says he wouldn’t be surprised if Humberto takes “that woman’s” side. Why? I didn’t quite get this but the music of doom played when Sev said it, something about, today your cousin is going to bring up the matter of El Santuario. Please help.
Sev just says that he "prendi[o] la mecha) = lit the match", by which he meant that he revealed that he paid for El Santuario. He warns Cande that that issue will soon explode.

Emanuel is about to open up to her about last night when Mel interrupts him. Dang on it! I didn’t quite catch what it is they made a date for tonight. Help again, please.
Lola and E-man were about to talk about last night when Mel comes out and asks what Lola's doing there b/c she should be at her job. She covers by saying that she and E were just going over when he was going to pick her up from work that evening.

Kat - you rocked it! I especially liked your comment about knowing not only who you were, but when you were. It completey astounds me that actors and actresses can film out of order and still channel the emotions they need to for the current scene. I imagine that is a thousand times harder when you have 2 minutes to regroup AND change characters AND it's live!

Count - yes, Justo also lost his arm like Sev did.

Daisy - I agree, Dominga's reaction was a little over the top. I'm pretty sure we'd have seen the exact same reaction if Lola and E were 14 and, if the setup is to be believed, they're supposed to be about the age of Aldonza's little sister, which makes them about 24-26, depending on months? I'm chalking that up to Mel and Dom being shocked, not that she's kissing someone in the stables, but aghast that she would push herself on someone who has no interest in her, as far as they know.

I agree, E's going to have a revelation, but I think it won't be just from having some more alone time with Lola. I'm thinking it'll take E's being paired up with a follower like Mary or a manipulator like Val before he recognizes how awesome Lola's open, honest and straightforward love, affection and general approach to life is.

Occasionally all of the supporting younger cast looks older than they act to me. Aldonza and Cris seem on target, but Lardo, Mary, Emmanuel and Lola sometimes look off. Which is natural I suppose since all of them are actually older than the characters they're playing irl.

Thanks for those clarifications, HellaShelle, sometimes these guys go a hundred miles and hour and I just cant catch what they say!

In total agreement with this: Lardo, Mary, Emmanuel and Lola sometimes look off to me.

I just have to tell myself they're younger than they actually appear: kinda like that warning in the rear view mirror!

I've actually been shocked by how young Alex Sirvent looks in this. But yes, he's significantly older than Michelle and Pablo who are both supposed to be slightly older than he is. It's working for me though.

Now that I know the Mary actress is actually Alexis'/Sever's wife in real life, it makes it even harder to see her as one of the "kids", plus she does look way older.

Gracias, Lila!

Wow Vivi,i never knew Alexis was married to Fernanda Lopez( The gal, playing Snob Mary) . Well he was also married to Karla Alvarez( I think her last role was potraying Irasema from a novela which starred Jorge Salinas) but sadly she passed away :(

"Occasionally all of the supporting younger cast looks older than they act to me. Aldonza and Cris seem on target, but Lardo, Mary, Emmanuel and Lola sometimes look off. "

Did you watch FELS (Fuego En La Sangre)?
The main actors were ALL at least twenty years older than the characters they were playing. It got to be a joke with the Patio peeps.

You are welcome, Sara!

Hi Lila---It is hard to believe that you are actually sick. WOW!
You can write like this when you are sick? It is almost too good to be true. I don't think that I could do even half as good as what you gave us.

You said---Aldonza was also on fire last night! Girl told Cande what's what and I was in awe. She clearly graduated with honors from that school of hers, they just failed to mention her minor in dealing with B******
That Ice Queen Cande has met her match. Young Aldonza, you go girl!!!

I wrote a long comment on the Hasta blog last night, it posted but when I posted a follow up comment my original comment vanished. I was so angry that I didn't sleep well last night and I can't get my thought together today---I apologies . Maybe I can get it together and write more in a bit but for now I will just say

GET WELL LILA!!!
the gringo

Thank you, brother Gringo! Dern blogger has been scarfing down your comments, hasn't it? Jeesh!

And this right on observation comes from HellaShelle, not me:

-Aldonza was also on fire last night! Girl told Cande what's what and I was in awe. She clearly graduated with honors from that school of hers, they just failed to mention her minor in dealing with B******

But thank you Gringo!

I don't normally have a problem suspending my disbelief when it comes to actors ages because it's so common in television, but sometimes I really have to tighten the beanie. When I first saw E-man, I almost laughed to believe that he's younger than Cris, but now I just try to remember that he's been raised to be inferior and that helps. Lola's a little harder because sometimes when she's pouting, she looks like she's trying to act like a seven year old caught with her hand in the cookie jar, but she's such an awesome character that I can get passed it. Mary and Lardo are just difficult.

Cande's like a pitbull with no teeth. I feel like since her first rage and proclamations moment, she spends a lot of her time angrily flouncing out of rooms because she hasn't gotten her way.

I think it's sweet that Irma knows about Mary's crush on Emmanuel. I wonder if that's because Mary told her, or she's as obvious about it as Lola is. It's too bad both girls want the same guy. I guess that's where Renato comes in?

Thank you everyone for the kind comments and well-wishes for the show! Unbeknownst to me, Univision also did a report on the play that includes a few snippets of the show from when we did it 2 years ago! Here it is if you want to take a look.

Lila, I hope you're kicking that flu! *vibes*

Diana, I agree that Cris isn't any part of Aldonza's plans. I like that. I hope that her recent degree IS a part of her plans...I'd hate to see that just get ignored. Maybe she'll revive the huerta, assuming it comes with the rental of the house. Lila, I do think it will infuriate Val and Cande just to have Aldonza there, going about her business instead of leaving. And that will be hilarious to watch, as the two of them get increasingly pissy...and over what? That Aldonza moved back home? How long before everybody starts wondering QTH is wrong with them!

I think from the first time we saw Mari, I thought she was older. In fact, until she mentioned their parents, I thought she WAS Abelardo's mom. Oops!

Hey, Diva, thanks. Spent most of yesterday in bed, heading back now for a little rest. Wretched thing, it is.

My link doesn't work! Poopy cakes!

:/

Mine did work! Nice clip Diva! Aside from his wife, what other roles are you playing?

REading the comments since this TN started is giving me a new appreciation for the fact that Al and Cris are not already madly in love and spend the next 9 months figuring out how to be happy. Al did tell Dr. Hum that she wanted to revive the huerta when she first approached him about buying back the land. Cris also thinks the land is being underused, so it'll be nice to think that in the imaginary epilogue, they make that happen.

Link worked for me and I got to watch Kat's interview. Well done, 5-ft! So, I "Googled" you and .... can we buy some of your yummy chocolates at the Patio mart?

Hi, Alex (Emanuel) who was in Robo was the free spirit singer in the plaza towards end of tn. IRL he is married to the actruz who came out as Fina(loved by Adolfito).

Gringo, I am sorry about your disappearing comments. It has happened a few times to me. I know how you feel, I get so frustrated that I start lurking only. Then I get into it again. Just
keep posting. I am sure I am not the only one that looks forward to what Gringo needs to say.

You know The more i see of Chris, his reactions, his good heart, the more I get into my head that he just cannot be Sev's son. Cande has rotten attitude, but as she cried to Dominga she is so afraid. She is hiding something, she is so afraid of something getting found out. That is why Chris practically never lived with them, because she kept him away due to her fears. Will not be surprized if She was preggers when she married Sev. And if course the real daddy was never aware, because Cande never told him. If that is true, it could be PadreJ. Just saying and agreeing with what someone else had posted before. How dare everyone going around slapping him. That makes me mad, especially Sev cause Of the hurt and shock in Chris's eyes. And rhen that B$&@$)( Val. How dare she!!!

good morning, all.

Lila, I hope that you Are feeling better. I am still coughing and tired. This thing has been clinging to me for a week and a half now..longer for the little girls.

Diva..good luck with your new endeavor. I know that you will rock it.

Gringo, I know how frustrating it is to take the time to post a comment only to have it disappear. For me, it was not this site but rather the bad update to my iPad.

I also thought that some of these actors do not look like 20 something's..especially Lardo and Mari.

well, off to work. I can't wait to see what happens tonight.

Hey, Novella Lover! Welcome! I am one of those who wish that Sev is not Cris's father though I don't have any evidence for this. I also wish he hadn't raped Aldonza but if wishes were horses. . . .

Anywho, as I and others have said earlier, Cris is going to be thinking hard about the conniptions everyone is having over Aldonza, and Emanuel gives him something to think about everytime they talk. It remains to be seen if he will go ahead with the marriage or just yell TIME OUT and step back to see what he really wants.

Thanks Susanlynn! Not a hundred per cent but back to the old grind today! I hope you and the girls feel better and better, too!

It is so nice to look forward to Sombra every evening! May they keep the action and pace as engaging as they are now!

Healing Vibes to you and the girls!

Lila))))))))))))))))))))

Does anyone know why do sometimes "sponsor " accounts commment around here? Ya know all these " Do you wanna get your luck back ,there is a great spiritualist to help you with your crappy life ,his name is blah blah blah" kind of chain messages . Its nice to see the activity on older recaps but later its revealed that they were just chain messages/scam accounts. Shouldnt Blogger be filtering them?

Blogger sometimes catches them. If you get one in your inbox, but you check the actual recap comments and it's not there, that means it got caught in the spam filter. Sometimes by the time I report them to Google, the account is shut down. This one hasn't been, so far, so I encourage everyone to click the link to their Google plus profile and report them. If you're feeling vindictive and you have a minute :)

Lila---one day closer to complete wellness. You'll be back to normal again I hope. Sick or well
your recaps rock both ways.

Novella lover---Interesting theory
that Cris may not be Sever's son.
The padre's before he became a padre? Or maybe someone else that we haven't met yet. We don't know much about Cande's history, her early love life.

I have been wondering, with all of the hatred between the Mendoza's and the Alcocer's--when
the beautiful waterfall wedding (it better be) actually takes place, who is going to be there?

I CAN'T WAIT---I CAN'T WAIT for tonight--8 hours to go until Aldonza signs the rental agreement to move back into her old house. It will be even better when she buys back her family's property but for now, a rental is
just fine.

Knowing Sever's temper and dark side, I am starting to worry about Dr. Humberto's safety after he rents the land to Aldonza. Will he be allowed to live? Well I guess that he will at least up to when Aldonza regains full possession of the property.

How long before Val spins out of control?

Please hurry 7PM
the gringo

Diva---I wanted to watch but the link didn't work for me. My computer probably needs an update
the gringo

This is the link in plain text http://univisionarizona.univision.com/videos-univision-arizona/video/2015-03-20/vida-de-raul-h-castro-llega-al-teatro?utm_source=New+Carpa+Main&utm_campaign=fad4158658-American+Dreamer&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_589849425d-fad4158658-144380593 if you want to try to copy and paste.

Hm, guests at the eventual wedding...well, since Padre J will be officiating, I guess that leaves Adelina, Dominga, Melesio, Emmanuel, Lola...those are the only ones I can see for sure being there. Maybe also Mari w/Renato, Joaquin and little Ray minus Flavia...that's all I can think of. Everyone else will have been anviled or just not close enough to the couple to be there.

Gringo- I think it's a guarantee that Sever will NOT be at Cris and Aldonza's eventual wedding, at least not as a (welcomed) guest. Raping the future bride usually rescinds one's invitation to the wedding. Also likely not in attendance, Valeria. Just can't see her swallowing her pride. I would also say that Cande won't be there, but Cris should at least have one parent there, so we might see some kind of miracle redemption. Or maybe not, and Cris will renounce both his parents by the end.

If indeed they are his parents...I'd be ok with a baby switch at the hospital or something. And I think when he finds out everything they've both done, he will be too!
