La Sombra del Pasado #23 3/19/15
Directo al grano
Candelaria (Cande) tells Severiano(Sev) to tell Cristobal(Cris) what Aldonza did to him. In Sev's telling, Aldonza is a nutcase who stabbed him simply because he told her to leave Cris and Valeria(Val) alone. Cris doesn't buy it. Cande jumps in and tells him that yes, Aldonza is capable. It's in her blood. She's just like her mother if not worse. Cris wants to know why his father didn't tell him about this yesterday (remember? Cris asked him that what was wrong.) Sev didn't want to unfairly malign Aldonza (note the eyeroll from Cande.) Sev reiterates that Aldonza is mentally unbalanced, but if it will make Cris feel better he'll file a report with the police. Cris doesn't think that's necessary. Like Sev said...Aldonza needs professional help. Not jail. After Cris leaves Sev tells Cande what a stupid stunt she pulled. He walks away and ignores her insistence that they talk.
Adelina is glad Aldonza finally talked to Lola. Aldonza is glad she did too. Adelina is glad to see Aldonza happy again...not sad and wanting vengeance. Aldonza tells Adelina about Emanuel's visit and how Lola got jealous. Adelina thinks Aldonza needs to explain to Lola that Emmanuel is just a dear friend...but Adelina does think Emanuel is super guapo. Oh! Oh! It's practically confirmed that Emanuel is Roberta's lost child!! Aldonza says he's just like a brother to her! Aldonza doesn't want Lola angry at her because of Emmanuel.
Melesio(Mel) happens upon a tearful Lola and they talk about her love woes. The scene was way too long to me and I don't have the patience to go into detail. Melesio is no dummy and he knows that Lola is talking about Emmanuel. Mel pep talks. She gets her smarts from her abuela and her chattiness (dicharachero) from him. He can't let things get her down. She's still bummed no one seems to pay her any mind. Especially Emmanuel. Fill in for me folks.
Cande doesn't see what the problem is. Cris would have found out about the incident eventually. Sev doesn't think so. How would he have found out. Cande thinks Cris is seeing Aldonza and would have found out that way. He and Val already had a spat about Valeria. Cande has advised Val to stay calm and act as if it doesn't bother her, but Cande isn't sure if she'll take her advice. Sev asks why Cande mettles in everything. What good did it do to tell Cris about the encounter with Aldonza. Cande wonders what Sev is afraid of. Is there something she doesn't know? Should she ask Aldonza directly? Sev tells her not to accuse him. Go ahead and ask her. All that matters to him is that his son believes him and trusts him. Cande just tells him to take advantage that his son still trusts him.
Dominga brings Cris a sammich. Cris asks if she thinks his dad is an upright guy. Dominga thinks so, even though some folks are afraid of him. Ultimately, God is the judge anyway. Cris eats the sammich.
Val interrupts an awkward moment between Prudencia(Pru) and Humberto. Val needs some medical certificate and she takes advantage of the moment to ask Humberto what Aldonza was doing at his office. This precipitates an argument about El Santuario and the house. Neither Pru nor Val want Aldonza renting the house. Humberto puts his foot down. He's the one who'll make the decisions around her.
Lola is at the stables and is rude to Emmanuel. He asks what's up and she asks if he likes Aldonza. He is cara de where the hell did that come from?
Aldonza wants to place her mothers ashes in the tumba with her father and her sister. You can see the wheels turning in Adelina's brain. Aw hell how am I going to talk her out of this.
Emmanuel asks Mel why Lola is upset with and weird with him. Mel tells him she needs a little attention and can be sensitive. Emmanuel thought she was a little tougher. Mel tells him that on the outside she's as tough as an oak, but inside she's a gentle little flower. And pity the person who hurts her because Mel will break his face. Cris interrupts and asks Emmanuel where Aldonza lives. Emmanuel tells him and then asks why Cris is going to see her. Cris just tells him it's not his business. Emmanuel warns him to be careful of Val finding out.
Val is meeting up with Abelardo(Lardo) though. He's ballsy. He asks her to marry him. Val lets him know that she will never marry him. She's a queen and will be treated as such. Lardo thinks she's just marrying Cris for the money and power. She swears she loves Cris. He's a real stallion in the bedroom. Lardo reminds her that Aldonza is back in town and when Cris grows tired of Val, he'll be back to Aldonza. Lardo ironically calls her "reina." Val stomps off.
Cris sees Padre Jeronimo (Padre J) and asks where Aldonza is. She just happens to be coming to see Padre as well. Cris asks about what happened between his dad and her. He wants her version. Aldonza doesn't think he'll believe her or will want to her the truth. She launches into a litany of insults. Cris tells her to watch it. She's talking about his dad. He wants to know why she came back. To give him and his family problems. When he hears that she's there to bury her mother, he softens. He had no idea. He tries to comfort her, but she stops him. He tells her he's sorry and she tell him to save his words. She thinks that deep down, he and his family are probably glad Roberta is dead. He tells her that he could never get any pleasure from something that makes her suffer. She may not believe it, but he's always just wished the best for him.
Pru drunkenly pleads her case to the Menodozas. She wants them to help her convince Humberto NOT to rent the Alcocer lands and house to
Padre J thinks Aldonza should have told Cris what happened with his dad. Cris needs to know what a beast his father is. Aldonza changes the subject and asks Padre J to help her find out what she needs to do to place her mother's ashes with her father and sister. She also wants a mass for just the three of them.
Cris also goes to see Humberto to find out more about the confrontation with Aldonza and Sev. Humberto claims it had already gone down by the time he came out of his office. Cris still thinks something is fishy. Yeah Aldonza has returned a changed woman, but Cris doesn't think she's capable of hurting someone. Humberto thinks Cris should leave it alone. It's not right that he's talking to Humberto about Aldonza if Cris is about to marry Humberto's daughter. Humberto asks him to not hurt Valeria. If Cris has doubts, don't string Val along. Don't make her suffer. Cris assures Humberto that he loves Val and that's why he's marrying her.
Adelina goes to see Padre J at the church. She begs him to help her change Aldonza's mind...but please don't ask her why. Padre J asks her to explain what's going on. Why shouldn't they place Roberta's ashes next to her husband and daughter? She finally breaks down and tells him that only Raymundo is buried there. The baby's not there.
Aldonza is tending her father's tomb. She apologizes for abandoning him, but she's there now and this time she's not leaving.
Adelina explains to Padre J that only Raymundo's body is the only one buried in that tomb and if they open it, Aldonza will realize her sister was never buried there. Padre J is speechless. He reminds Adelina that years ago she had assured him that they had buried the baby with his brother. It even has the child's name on the headstone! They put it there to hide the lie. Padre J doesn't understand what she's talking about and she has to tell him that the child was not Raymundo's; that Roberta had been involved with another man and he was the father of the child. He was the one who took the baby away. The bastard convinced Roberta to have the baby at home, but there were complications and the baby was born dead. The father took charge of burying the baby and he took her away. She begs Padre J not to make her go to the tomb. She further explains that she was at the birth. The baby girl never cried, but she never had the child in her arms to confirm the baby had died. Padre J thinks the child could still be in Santa Lucia...alive!!
Lardo shows up late for work. Mel lets him know that he's expected to be at work on time. Lardo gives him lip and tells him that he doesn't have to take orders from a pleb like Mel. Mel tells him that at the hacienda there's a hierarchy and like it or not Mel is over him. Lardo makes a crack about Lola getting her mouth from Mel and Mel whips out a mini-machete. Do not talk about his nieta!! He may be old, but he can still break a face. He follows that up with a punch to Lardo's face. Woot.
Padre J is still in shock. Adelina tells him that she swore to Roberta not to ever tell Aldonza the truth. They can't sully Aldonza's image of her mother. Padre J agrees, but he's still worried that the child could be alive. Did Adelina ever talk to Roberta about her doubts? Roberta had already suffered enough, so Adelina didn't talk to her. Did she even look for the child? Talk to the real father? Adelina asks him to please think of Aldonza. She can't handle the truth right now.
Aldonza tries to explain to Lola that Emmanuel is nothing to her. Aldonza would never betray Lola. Lola is very pretty and a man will fall for her! Aldonza is not interested in any man. She'll never fall in love again. And no, she is not upset by Cris's wedding. She wishes him the best even though she still loves him. But she can't have anything to do with the son of Severiano Mendoza...and she has her own reasons for hating him.
Sev pays a visit to Casa Zapata. He wants to talk about the gift he and Humberto are going to make of El Santuario. It's very important that the paperwork is in order before the wedding. Pru asks how Sev can be one of the people giving the gift. Sev spills the beans that he was the one that gave Humberto the cash to buy El Santuario! And Humberto hasn't paid back a cent! Humberto tells Sev that he's going to pay him back. Why mention it in front of his family? Sev thought they knew. Oh how embarrassing! He'll make his departure so the family can talk. Pru and Val are pissed.
Cris asks Emmanuel why he didn't tell him about Roberta. Emmanuel didn't think it was his business to tell. When asked, Emmanuel does tell Cris that Roberta committed suicide. Cris now understands Aldonza's attitude Emmanuel suggests that Cris let Aldonza alone to deal with her grief.
Pru and Val berate Humberto. Oh the shame!! Pru thought they were the proper owners of the property! Now she'll be a laughing stock! Hub says they are the owners. Being owners "on paper" doesn't count, Val reminds him. Severiano gave him the money. Humberto keeps insisting he was going to pay Severiano back. All he wanted was to have some assets for his family. He makes an exit. Val is just mortified. Imagine being engaged to the son of the man your father is trying to swindle. She hopes this won't affect the wedding.
Aldonza catches Adelina crying. Adelina tells her she's just remembering her sister. Adelina asks Aldonza if she was really supportive for her and begs Aldonza to forgive her. Aldonza assures her aunt that she is the only one she can put her blind faith in.
Fin de episode.

I know the original, 'El Mantianal' had just over 90... but I went on Alejandra Barros' 'Wikipedia' page, and it says that 'Sombra' has 197 (!!!)
I don't about you all, but reading that gave me a nasty feeling in the pit of my stomach...
Does anybody know for sure??
Padre J looked like you could knock him over with a feather after Adelina's revelation. I'm glad that he didn't spend any time dwelling on the deception of his brother and of him, and went right to worrying about where the missing child is (even though he now knows he's not related to the child).
Adelina really needs to stop feeling guilty about stuff she didn't do. These are Roberta's sins, it hers. Damn. It's like Roberta committed the sins, and Adelina and Aldonza pay the price.
I'm still wondering why Lulu, the parish office assistant, was crying and wanting Padre J's help the other night. Then, two nights later, she is like "Okay, so if I go to the market, you want rice, oil, and bicarbonate of soda, right?" What happened to her big emergency?
First time ever I have seen a man of the cloth portrayed as a vibrant and complex character *with a personality. I'm on Team Padre J. And Team Lola. And...I hate to say it but Renato is kinda growing on me.
J in Oregon
Perfect bolding on "just like a brother"...I think I also heard a little extra emphasis from the sound department.
Melesio and Lola's convo...let me sum up...
Melesio: Why are you crying hija?
Lola: Abuelo, why don't boys like me?!
Melesio: Because boys are stupid. Now let's go have dinner before your abuela starts freaking out.
I was surprised that Abelardo actually proposed. Mr. 5ft, being more cynical, is surprised that he didn't propose screwing Val while she's married to Cris. Pobre de Abelardo...he gave a way the milk and now she won't buy the bull...shit...yeah, that metaphor went all wrong.
I'm both glad Adelina came partially-clean to Padre J, but also angry that she's now done to him what her sister did to her. She just passed down the burden of all those secrets. And since she didn't tell him under the seal of confession, instead of being obligated not to say anything, he now has to choose between lying to his niece and not hurting her.
They keep talking about Roberta and Sev's offspring as being a girl. Could Lola be that child? Her background is shrouded in mystery.
Sev's comment, "If the boy is still smitten with Aldonza, he will seek her out, married or not," could be a peek at what happened with him and Roberta, I think.
I laughed when tipsy Pru wondered if Aldonza would turn the old house into a brothel. Worse things could happen: It could become a house filled with hatred like Sev and Cande's house.

I feel so bad for Lola but I hope we don't only get her served up to us a constantly whining her fate. She's so much more than that. I like her dynamic with Allie. Last night E-man's reaction to her was cute.
I can see she gets her fire from Mel. Man he rocked it with that scum bucket. I'm guessing our resident bad boy thinks being he has it in now with Sev he can bully his way around the ranch. Not getting his end game though. Not like he can worm his way into the ranch...unless he's keeping Val close so eventually as she gets her mits into things, he can take advantage. Career planning at it's best?
The whole walk in the bedroom scene with Val and her folks was the funniest thing I've seen and I watch MCET. Poor Humberto. The man must be wishing he was far far away right now. Cute play by Sev in leaking out the purchase agreement.
As to the reveal...I think we were thrown a HUGE curveball so that the reveal of Emmanuel as the lost child will be a major surprise. Even Adelina thinks it was a girl, but did she really "witness" the birth? Methinks not as close as she thinks since she thought the baby dead. More I think about it though, sort of makes me disgusted that Sev knows he has a second son and besides just giving him a job really gives him no time of day.

Appreciate your "chattiness (dicharachero") embeddeed vocabulary which is always a treat. I enjoyed the scene where Cris pondered his father's character wrapped up by your wry "Dominga brings Cris a sammich" and "Cris eats the sammich".
For me,the highlight of the night was when inebriated Pru receives the not so subtle signals from Sev and Cande that it is time to leave. She gulps her shot and hands a rather nonplussed Sev her empty glass. For a moment, I thought he struggled not to laugh - even Cande almost stopped frowning for a second. Wonder if it was unscripted? But you could tell the actors all enjoyed the moment. A tiny bit of levity.
Cande telling Cris about Sev's wound shows she is desperate.
Aldonza, proud and regal is struggling to hold her head up and comport herself with dignity. She is vulnerable prey for the vicious wolves (Sev, Cande and yes Val). While the staunchly supportive Adelina is her port in the storm, she needs much more support. So glad that the Padre is with them. It is so refreshing to see a priest portrayed so gallantly - I agree with you J in Oregon, I am also really liking this character.
Kat, "Pobre de Abelardo...he gave a way the milk and now she won't buy the bull...shit...yeah, that metaphor went all wrong" had me laughing out loud!
Daisy, I don't understand how Sev can be so contemptuous of Emmanuel either. It appeared he did feel something for Roberta - some putrid mix of love and hate no doubt, but it appears he is still trying to inflict pain on Roberta by the cruelty he has and is inflicting on Aldonza.
Wonderful Sara. Your recaps have a vibrant life and tone all of their own. Thank you!
Diana
The only reason they all think the baby was a girl is because Sever said so. Neither Adelina nor Roberta saw the baby. Adelina only rushed into the room after Sever already had the baby wrapped up in a blanket, because she had been in the other room with baby Aldonza. Sever is a lying liar who lies. Therefore, if he says the baby was a dead girl, we can bet it was a live boy. Even Adelina says she has doubts the baby actually died because she didn't see her, and well, she knows Sever is a lying bastard.
I was wondering about Sever and Cande's public face too. They snipe at each other regularly at home, and this town is a hotbed of gossips. How has the truth of their relationship not leaked. Was Abe really the only person to overhear a private discussion or is it just that most of the employees wouldn't dare mention a cross word?
I've been a little disappointed by the main characters love story. I'm ready to start believing so I hope they give us something to work with soon.
As for our main couple, I would be incredulous if Aldonza was running straight into Cris's arms. His dad raped her! That's not as easy to get over as him having an inconvenient fiance, which is usually the only thing the main couple has to get past to decide to be together.
Dr. Hum really disappointed me last night. He got a direct question and he folded completely. Stupid Sev and his stupid money.
Is it just weird or is everyone weirdly calm about the whole "she stabbed him with a letter opener" thing? We know how it went down and clearly Sev's fine, but if someone told me someone stabbed my dad with a letter opener, I'd be all QTH?!!! We need to get this person locked up! Why did they stab you? What's going on?! OMG!"
Yeah, you're right it wouldn't make sense for her to go running to him for comfort or anything, but right now they really are playing this straight and both acting like they're each just "somebody that I used to know." No lingering looks or brief wistful glances as the other walks away. No subtly trying to squeeze info about them from their friends. Oh Lord...I've gotten spoiled by crappy TNs haven't I?
Adelina and Padre freaked out about it, but Adelina KNOWS why Aldonza needed to protect herself from that monster, and Padre accepts Aldonza's story that Sever manhandled her and seems to approve of her methods for self protection.
Cande only cares that she wasn't kept in the loop. She probably secretly hopes that Aldonza had done more damage. As as much as she plays ignorant about it, I'm sure she suspects exactly what Sever did to run Adlonza off the first time and why Aldonza went after him with a letter opener.
Humberto knows what was happening and why Aldonza stabbed Sever, so no shock and surprise from him.
The only person with any reason to be shocked and horrified is Cris, and he's the one asking all the questions. But I'm glad that one of his questions was what did you do to her, because that's not something Aldonza would just do. I was glad that he didn't immediately assume she's some horrible crazy person, and he seemed to accept that she had a real grievance when he spoke to her. So now he's confused. He trusts his father, and he believe in Aldonza.
Jeronimo - lordy, the bad folk fortunate you wield a cross not a machete, you'd take a head not an arm
Adelina - destructive martyrdom
Pru - we're just wrestling
Emmanuel - I'm not gods gift to women, so I miss things
Humberto - bitches be mad
Abelardo - I've seen everybody naked
Cris - pinball, ball
Val - delusions of grandeur
Cande must suspect now because even if she hates Sev, as you said, she was far less concerned about him getting stabbed than she was about him not informing her. Complete 180 from back in the day when she was freaking out about his arm. My how times have changed...
Vivi - oh good, I thought something was wrong with my recording last night. They def edited that scene. I wasn't so sure if that was a mm baby moment or if Pru had jumped on him to get some infor out of him.
Hellashelle - it is a oft-observed fact that telenovela characters wear their telenovela beanie hats, too. This especially pertains to our protagonists. Otherwise, the story would wrap up in another ..... veinte capítulos. ;o)
Cris def has his beanie hat on, with chin strap engaged.
tofie - LOLing over Abe on your list
If everyone told other characters what they know, the TNs would only last two months, if even that long.
Coffee splayed across laptop screen and my desk at work and the guy next office over came over and quipped " Happy Friday? Partying early?"
I agree that for once, we are seeing a bit more of a realistic portrayal of our love birds. let's face it, their original romantic interlude was very short and sweet. Sure does that stay with you, but years have gone by, Allie has been to hell and back and part of her survival right now is to just focus on her future without romantic entanglements. Coming back and seeing Cris moved on, if it was me, last thing I would want to do is get involved at all with that whole family and bitch-mode Val no matter how I feel around my former love. Can't wait to see how she deals with Cande tonight.
Agree that Seve has been the master of disguise all these years. Can I say how much I love the way Alexei is playing this character. He's not that Sergio Sendel evil-eye leering guy that noone wants to like. And that makes his machinations all the more interesting and diabolical. Even Cande can't read him all the time, and that's awesome because it means she's not the atypical controlling woman of the manor either.
Ok - Can you tell, I love this show and hope it stays true to what we are getting all the way through.
Daisynjay
Hub saw the first few minutes of this episode and as Val barged into her parents' bedroom, he said, ''They should lick their door.'' I did not try to explain that tn folks do not lock doors. Val is so full of herself that she did not even seem to notice that her parental units were in the middle of getting busy. the average child in reality would run out of that room all redfaced and embarrassed.
So, yes, you did right to bold the part where Aldonza said Emanuel was like a brother to her! And somebody in the sound department DID drop some pots and pans when she said that! Here's something else that stood out for me:
Aldonza is not interested in any man. She'll never fall in love again. And no, she is not upset by Cris's wedding. She wishes him the best even though she still loves him. But she can't have anything to do with the son of Severiano Mendoza
I know some of us will feel better if Cris is NOT Sev's bio son but my novela IQ is not high enough to make this work. Raimundo can't be Cris's father cause then he and Aldonza would be half brother and sister. I don't think Padre Jeronimo is Cris's father unless he and Cande hooked up back in the day and she never told him and quickly married Sev. Of course, they are other men in the world and other characters could appear but well. . .this is a half-assed theory.
Well done, Sarah, thank you!
Lila
The scene where Val has walked in on her parents reminded me an a different TN in which the two main characters were def about to have some grown up fun, they were already under the sheets, and then a little kid comes running into the room and jumps into bed with them.
Vote for Cris' daddy right now flow to the Padre which might explain Cande's being flustered still around him and her fierce control of his life without admitting to Seve why. I can see where the good Padre might have sowed some wild oats before taking the collar. He certainly, and happily, is not your typical town priest with his attitude.
Daisynjay
There is one intriguing back story with the grownups still not all told.
Daisynjay
Cris really has not been around dear old dad much since Mommy Dearest hustled him off to school in Spain. Even so, some people are very talented at wearing a mask and can do so for an amazingly long time.
Perhaps, padre is Cris's dad. They seem to have a warm relationship...call of the sangre ? That would make Cris and AL first cousins. Val and Cris are second cousins or are they first cousins once removed. Hmmm.. Maybe either Ray or Padre are Cris's father , and someone else is Al's father. Rob seemed to like the hombres.
All I could think of last night, with every exchange between Cris and Sev and Cris and Cande, is these people don't love that boy, he's a pawn to be maneuvered. Somebody, anybody, give that boy some love.
I want to know who Cris did grow up with. It seems like Cande's in Mexico for most of that time. Cris doesn't seem resentful or maladjusted or stand offish or anything I might expect in a TN (I'm sure if he was a villain, this would be one of his most referenced complaints). Whoever was guiding him through all these years did a good job.
I remember Roberta saying loudly and clearly that Aldonza's was Ray's child on quite a few occasions. I tend to think that she would not have said that if it wasn't true.
I do think Cris is Sev's son. I wish it weren't so but while I think that there is a true (real or simply desired) love in Cande's past (or mind), I think she is too esconsed on the straight and narrow path to have strayed.
But what do I know? I'm usually wrong ;)
Diana
I think that Cris had a warm relationship with Dom, his nanny. She probably is responsible for his goodness. She also raised Candy, but Sev changed Candy into a cold, bitter woman. It is always interesting to see the effect that a bad person has on a basically good one. Sometimes, a good soul is damaged beyond repair by an evil influence , but other people can survive and move forward. candy seems to have had a personality change, while AL seems to have a stronger nature .
I still hope he's not Sev's son. Susanlynn, I see HellaShelle answered your question. I do want Cris to think about whether he really wants to marry Vale. Interesting the the vile Sev agrees with Humberto that this marriage may not be the best idea. I also noted Sev saying that if Cris was drawn to Aldonza nothing would stop him from seeking her out. And he seemed ok with this! The dog! He would be okay with Cris using Aldonza (whom he's already abused) the way he used and abused Roberta!
Apologies to doggies everywhere!
" So if Sev IS Cris's father, maybe him dying will make it better because we know Cris and Aldonza are going to be together"
If he does not die, Christmas and other major family events would surely be quite uncomfortable. Too bad he just doesn't read our comments and get it over with!
On those days where I would love to take someone head's off, and I do have those days after a long work week (like today), I would love to don that Shrew Shirt proudly. I'll go with the silhouette of Cande with the tight bun.
Daisynjay
Stay strong, Aldonza! Love that she and Adelina will stay with Padre. Sure do admire Padre Jeronimo! What a MAN of the cloth!
You know what? That boy is sooo fine, I hope they let him do something other than mother hen Cris and the non-deserving Vale!
I love this store! Of the current cast, I like Pru's style the best, so I'll preorder some of her flowy tops :)
Susanlynn - I'm rewatching SME right now and those words are so appropriate for that TN, though from a different angle.
I too wish he wasn't Sev's son, but sadly, Vivi's right, we haven't seen any hints toward that end (but we're not even at cap. #30, so keep hope alive, right?)
I just hope the fact Ade ran into the church to tell the Padre doesn't bring that up. What I would love to see is her try to pull that on him and our Super Padre ( there's shirt for you!) tells her, yeah, not so much Ade.
I take it the burial plot in question then is one large crpyt?? Because even in family plots there is more often than not a way to bury the remains next to each other without unearthing everyone. I'm more the scatter the ashes type person and don't hold much to believing somehow the "person" is still in the plot, but in the thought process of this TN, lucky Ray gets to be laid to rest next to the woman who shot him. Somehow, that seems rather unfair. But I don't see Ade ever letting that piece of info slip to Allie...though I'm not sure it will stay a secret forever since Seve knows the truth. Lord that man is just full of info.
Daisynjay
Sara---I don't know why you thought that your recap was only half good today? I didn't see it that way at all. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I especially liked the scene where Mel put Lardo in his place.
I cringe every time I see Lardo on the screen. I just loathe him.
What a smart mouthed jackass.
I will be wondering all day how the Aldonza/Cande meeting will go down tonight? I can't wait!
Must see TV.
the gringo
Sorry, got blindsided by that one.
Yeah, Lardo's the worst. I hate that he's getting so much info and getting embedded so deeply. The more Sev trusts him, the more power he's going to get and the more I'm going to want to kick him in the nuts every night.
Maybe Abelardo will be the one who takes Sev out for us. Abe has to be more useful than for just stirring up trouble.
Thanks again for the info, HellaShelle.
tofie, when you say "full and round" do you mean...like a pair of melons?
Cris' overall attitude is baffling to me, as well. He's suspicious enough to ask questions, and he seems to be on his guard and still looking for more answers, but he's too easily put off the track. It's like the light bulb is on, but it's only flickering intermittently.
I'm glad Aldonza and Cris had that conversation last night where she clued him in that the Mendozas are NOT the center of the universe. Seriously, did she go looking for any of them? No! But he actually had the nerve to say "Did you come back just to mess with my family?" Is that what you think messing with somebody looks like, Cris? If I haven't given up on him, it's because of those brief flickers of critical thinking and the fact that he has stood up to his mom on occasion.
Vivi, I am not opposed to Abelardo getting beat by everyone at the ranch. Can we add Lola to the list? He's bound to go too far with her some time when she's in the kitchen with a knife or a heavy pitcher....
Last night, after the argument with Candela, Sev had just the tiniest touch of a tremble, like he is seriously afraid of losing Cristobal's love and I actually felt sorry for him because the acting was so convincing. It in no way prevents me from wanting Sev to die a slow, painful death, but I do appreciate Alexis' work.
I would like a "Lola is my homegirl" t-shirt.
J in Oregon
That about Cris being suspicious but being easily put off the track is right on!
LOVE and agree with this: I'm glad Aldonza and Cris had that conversation last night where she clued him in that the Mendozas are NOT the center of the universe.
The "flickering light" of his critical thinking and convictions are what make him NOT ready for Aldonza right now. Not saying he doesn't love her but he's not man enough for her right now. For him to fulfill the promise he made at the waterfall he's got to grow a pair AND a spine as well as let his light do more than flicker for him to stand with Aldonza and fight for their love.
It could be she keeps keys to the house and other things that need to be secured around the house. She is, afterall ama de llaves, The Housekeeper: she runs the place!
Any other ideas, folks?

J...If you have Riteaid drugstores where you are, I just saw those white metal bicycles there last night.I will keep looking around for the twirly skirts.
I am behind 2 epi's and have read the great-ass recap. I am half ways on the comments, have to jump in and say this before I go any further and forget. Diva - i want a Lola my Homegirl tee too! I had a childhood friend just like that, 100% had my back and would defend me fiercely. Susanlynn-i think it was you that said you liked to see Pru, I love to watch her too, like her boozy style and how she tells Hum "ya me conoces!!!"
Question, bit confused here. If Adelina says the babys father took the child to bury it, how does Adelina know the child not in the tomb?? She said she held child in her arms and it looked dead, so does she not know where Sev
buried the child? Or deep down she always knew baby was allive and well, but let things be? Also who is Mary that Sev married in RL.?
Novella Lover: I don't think Adelina ever got to hold the baby--the doc whisked it away and handed it to Sev who was lurking outside the door. So why would Adelina have told everyone the baby was buried with Raimundo when clearly there was no burial ceremony there? Guess she figured on people having verrry short memories.

...." I am happy she stopped him, though! I want to see Cris grow more deeply and helplessly in love with Aldonza just by the sheer force of her being who she is, proudly bearing her burdens with quiet dignity ....
Lila, wow! And Guau! you illustrated beautifully what NEEDS to happen, Chris has to witness Aldonza's strength and character, if he loves her now...he will be see even more of her inner beauty and that there is nothing shallow or superficial about her. She is deep and real.
I thought it was just me, feel better someone else wondered whats up with that. Ha!
