La Sombra del Pasado #134, 08/24/2015 (Mx 136 Part 2): The End of Our Tale

My patio peeps! We've made it to the end, woohoo! Before I start my recap I'd like to thank you all for making this so much fun. My teammates have been the best and I'm honored that they let me join them on this trip. Diva, Lila, Sara and Kris, you are the best team members that a girl could ever hope to have!

Now to the recap!

Ladies, gentlemen, here's a sight no one ever thought they'd see: Candela is on her knees, crying and praying for Aldonza's safe return, she also prays for Cristobal- she prays for him not to kill his father because that's a crime that would follow him around forever. Then, she wipes her tears and a look of defiance takes over, it looks like she's decided that she must take action, more on this shortly.

Cristobal and Padre J are still searching for Aldonza, they ride off to meet up with Mel and the rest of the search party.

La Sombra del Pasado #133 (Mex #136 Pt. 1) 8-21-15 In the Valley of The Shadow of HELL!

Greetings, my friends of the Sombra Patio!  Or, shall I call it the Somber Patio?  No!  I am not going out like that!  I’m going out with gratitude for all of you allowing me to guide you through the crazy lives of the residents of Santa Lucia these past many Fridays.  I am grateful as well for the company of so many witty, brilliant, funny, passionate, observant and eloquent people gathering here around this digital campfire.  I am grateful for my teammates, Eli, Hellashelle, Sara and our Captain, La Diva del Desierto, 5ft. Latina!  Thank you for letting me retell this story to you all in this, my first full time, from the beginning recap gig!  I got nothin’ but LOVE for alla y’all!  Let’s do this!

I’m going to tell things a little out of order and not go into my usual depth of detail and you will see why and I hope it’s ok.  We repeat a bit of that sweet scene when Valeria finds out that Hum changed his will before he died and El Santuario belongs to Eman and Aldonza.  She drops heavily to the concrete bench while Pru babbles about the impossibility of this turn of events.  Val speaks aloud as Pru tries to comfort her, “I always treated him so badly. . .I killed him and I will have to live with that until my dying day!”

Later we see Val lying down in her cell when her private hellish thoughts are interrupted by an insistent thump.  She sits up and . . .AAAAGH!  Her father, Humberto is standing outside her cell, his eyes blackened!  Val screams and instantaneously he is in the cell sitting next to her, his presence shockingly real as he watches her silently.  Valeria.  Freaks.  Out!  She screams that he is dead, he should leave!  Two guards rush in and restrain her while a white coat clad Dr. plunges a syringe into her arm leaving her mumbling and sprawled on the cement block bed.

La Sombra del Pasado #132 (MX 135)-Thursday 8/20/15

I always get a little misty-eyed when a show comes to an end and especially when it's my last recap. I'm glad I have Muchacha italiana to look forward to and I'm so happy that most of the team is staying on for it.

Eli, hellashelle, Kat and Lila- you are all the best teammates a person could hope for. I really feel like I've been a part of something special on this show.

Eli-your wicked wit is enviable. I wish I had just a smidgen of it. Your ability to compact the episode into such a powerfully funny recap leaves me amazed.

hellashelle-I groaned along with you every time your "nemesis" graced the screen. I totally stole your "long and short" of it a couple times and you were very gracious about it. I thank you for that. I hope I get to be on a recapping team with you again very soon! I hate that I'm too behind on YNCELH to join that conversation.

Kat-How do I even begin to thank you for all your support since DQTQTQ? I am honored and relieved that you haven't fired me.

Lila- I love your enthusiasm. Your love of Telenovelas and the characters in them shines through every line...and sometimes your hatred ;-)

*ahem* I'll get on with it then...

La Sombra del Pasado #131 (Mx 134) - Wed 8/19 - Take this villain…no, please, take him!

Here we go, my final Sombra recap!  Thank you to the entire recapping team for making this a fun experience, even when the show started to drag, and to the peeps on the patio for hanging in there with us and sharing your witty observations every day.  Y'all make the work worth it!  Now on with the show….

We get a recap of Sev committing almohadacide (thank you doris for that one!).  The machines beep and Sev shouts for the doctor, who declares Humberto dead.  No prob, Sev will tell the family.  Pru gets the call from him just as Valeria is being perp walked through the streets of Santa Lucia.  I'll spare you Sev's fake platitudes.  Pru is so distraught she actually asks him for help with Val.

La Sombra del Pasado, Capítulo 130 (Mx 133): Little Ironies in the Night

You guys, it's been a pleasure. I've had such a great time recapping Sombra, I'm sorry to see it end. I want to thank the rest of the AMAZING recap team and everyone who sat on the Naughty Melon's patio for making my first recapping experience so awesome. For all of those reasons, and for all it's ridiculousness, I'm gonna miss this TN. On to the cap! (I'll edit later)

The Short of It: Everyone treads water as they find out Hum’s condition (not good). Sev takes expected advantage/action while Hum’s alone in the hospital. Pru and Val try to flee the cops. Also, Joaq tells Flavia he wants a divorce.

Why, if you weren't a woman I'd. . . .! La Sombra del Pasado #128 (Mex 131) Friday, 8-14-15

Good evening, good morning, good afternoon wherever you are my beloved Sombra Patio Peeps!  Let’s jump right in!

We get another view of that beautiful, candle-lit farewell to Padre Jeronimo.  We are up close and personal with all the misty eyes bathed in the soft glow of tens of votives , warm embraces and a view from above as the crowd gently parts as Padre walks amidst them and takes his leave.

Right away we see what the evil lackey, Javier is up to:  he’s going to damage a gate holding back the waters of the huerta’s reservoir, flooding it and wasting this precious resource!  Uuuuuf!

Humberto has returned home after his conversation with Cris and confronts Valeria about her monumental lie that Cris is the father of her fetus.  Hum shouts his outrage and shame at her actions and, of course, Val tries to play the offended one!  She’s so tired of his complaints!  He never has anything positive to say to her!  How in the hell can he when she is always talking nonsense!  He can’t understand how she could lay with that good for nothing Abelardo!  Well, Pru protests Val needed some comfort after Cris dumped her and Val tells her to shut up because she (Pru) is to blame for all this.  It goes on from there but Hum manages to yell at Val that for once in her life she needs to take responsibility for her own acts though Pru IS guilty of covering for her all her life and he’s sure Pru knew about this!  Val yells back if he wants to help her he should tell her how to get rid of this g.d. kid.  Oh no, she’s going to have the baby and HE’s going to see to it!  Pru looks on with eyes as huge as those figures in the sad sack/endearing paintings from the 60s.

La Sombra del Pasado #127 (Mex 130) 8/13

Too short, out of order, mostly from memory, probably not coherent and needing lots of fill in.

The Fetus (Thanks, Eli!)
Cristobal is now well aware that the fetus is not his. He leaves the gynecologists office in search of Val but Juanita tells him that Val is in San Miguel.

Val is given literature to read about the procedure and paperwork to fill out. She cannot interrupt a pregnancy after 12 weeks and will need to have an ultrasound. Val assures the doctor that she is not that far along and will bring the ultrasound report from her own doctor. The clinic doctor explains that the clinic will have to perform their own ultrasound. It's required by law. To interrupt a pregnancy after 12 weeks could be very dangerous for the mother and is a crime.

Chris is waiting at Val's door when she comes home. He confronts her about lying to him. Of course he has no memory of "that night" because NOTHING HAPPENED AND THE BABY IS NOT HIS! Val says she doesn't know what Cris's father told him...ooops! Cris is cara de why am I the last to know?? What? Cris is incredulous. "My father knew???" Cris tells Val it's her OB/GYN who spilled those beans. Cris is greatly relieved that he will never have to see Val ever again.

The fetus is not mine! La Sombra Del Pasado 08/12/15 #126 (Mx 129)

Oh.my.sweet.baby.jesus.

Tonight's show picks up where we left off last night: Candela is ready for war, she wants payback for the abuse she suffered at the hand (that never gets old) of Severiano so she walks into his bedroom as he slumbers and points a gun at his head. Severiano wakes up and asks what she's doing, her reply? "Getting payback for what you did to me last night"- he begs her to put the gun down, she refuses and tells him she's going to kill him like the dog that he is, and then it happens. The gun goes off, missing Severiano's head by mere inches, instead a poor feather pillow meets his/her maker. RIP little pillow, RIP.

La Sombra del Pasado, Capitulo 125 (Mex 128), 08-11-2015: Old dogs with old tricks should remember payback's a bitch

Don Antonio has Sev where the Devil’s had so many others: on his knees, begging for his life. He wants to kill Sev like the rabid, cowardly dog that he is. He wants to kill him in the shadows where he’s committed so many of his own crimes. With no witnesses, his death will be just another unsolved crime in the trail of “not-enough-evidence” crimes that Sev’s been racking up for years. It’s what he deserves. It’s what the town deserves. Indeed, Don Antonio might be the hero Santa Lucia deserves. Sadly, it’s not to be. Sev has a saving grace and it’s name is Emanuel. By virtue of the fact that Sev fathered Eman, Don Toño won’t kill him and before he leaves, he makes sure Sev knows it. “Don’t forget this: Emanuel doesn’t owe you his life. You owe him yours.” Don Toño’s barely out of the shot before Sev is plotting revenge. “You should have killed me,” he mutters to himself, struggling to regain his composure. “You should have killed me.”

La Sombra del Pasado #124 (Mx 127) - Mon 8/10 - Uncertainty

After Sev slaps Cande, Dominga helps her up.  Sev goes on a really bizarre rant about how Cande never loved him and that's why he sought out Roberta.  He put her on a pedestal, and now he knows she was always thinking of Padre J when she was, uh, "with" Sev.  He's acting heartbroken over it, with tears and everything, but the question is…is he really?  And more importantly, does anybody care or are we all handing him quarters?  Cande taunts Sev with "At least he's a whole man, and I don't mean your missing arm."  I suppose she means his soul.  Sev taunts back with "At least I'm a real man and not one who put on a cassock rather than fighting for the woman he loves.  But of course, he doesn't know what a woman is."  Totally thought he was going to end that with "of course, he never loved you."  Missed a primo opportunity there, Sev.  He continues his tantrum alone in his office, downing a drink and breaking the glass in his hand.

Don Camilo talks to the cops about the afternoon Adelina died.  And BTW, he thinks Sev did it.  Incompetente barely restrains himself from rolling his eyes.

La Sombra del Pasado #123 (Mex 126) 8-7-15 Valeria the Skankster Strikes Out and Sev's Anvils Line Up!

We begin with the end of the conversation at Cande’s bedside where Cris asks her upfront if she was an accomplice to the lie that Sev told about how he lost his arm.  He asks if she knew that Sev did not loose his arm in an accident with a plow or some such but rather that Raimundo Alcocer hacked him with a machete.  Cande says she didn’t know.  She always suspected his story but she didn’t want to know the details or become involved in such a disturbing event.  Cris takes Cande’s hand.  He shares his fear that he is losing the respect he had for her and Sev forever, he feels so deceived and betrayed.  Cande says she would do anything in her power to change how he feels but she cannot defend Sev because she doesn’t know what his real thoughts and motives are.  Cande swears she loves Cris with all her heart and it hurts her deeply this abyss that has grown between him.  Cris drops her hand and leaves her side, he is unmoved and unconvinced and leaves her room with his single tear still in place.  Ah, Candela, for once you tell the truth [she DIDN”T know how Sev was really severed] and your beloved Cris doesn’t believe you.

PadreJ and Aldonza talk at ES.  PJ is concerned that Eman is not there.  Aldonza thinks he’s exaggerating:  Eman can’t be with her 24/7 as if he’s her body guard!  Padre relents but insist Eman have more of a presence with her.  He tells her of his plan to do a mass for Adelina, Raimundo and Roberta and convinces her to not leave Roberta’s remains alone in the church:  if her own daughter can’t forgive her, how does she expect anyone else to?  She agrees.  Their remains will be together and he will do the mass before he leaves Santa Lucia.  She would like the mass to be private and absolutely agrees that Eman will be there.  Aldonza asks if the results from Adelina’s autopsy are back.  PJ is sure they are but he doesn’t know the details but will follow up for sure.

Weekend Discussion: First Annual Televisa Perversity Pageant (Men's Division)

We're getting into some seriously poisonous stuff with our latest round of Televisa villains. Lately it seems that the growing influence of male writers is resulting in more perverse male villains than we used to know 10 years ago. Therefore we are now in the finals of our first-annual Perversity Pageant (Men's Division).  Who should get the Crown of Fire?

La Sombra del Pasado #122 (Mx 125) Thursday 8/6 Check Out The Junk In Her Trunk*

*This title inspired by doris

My cat is sick. He's been to the vet and he's not acting any better. I am in spaz mode right now and I really didn't pay close attention to the episode. Here's what I remember (in no particular order.) I will come back in the morning with a real recap.

Aldonza does not shoot Sev. I guess I should be glad about that since protagonistas don't murder, but I wouldn't have held it against her. She was in a church though...so yeah...bad.

Hum is one hell of a general practitioner. He's performed surgery (amputation, vascular surgery) and now he's participating in Adelina's autopsy. I am pleasantly surprised that they are able to determine that Adelina's death was a homicide. There were no traces of pills in her stomach. It must have been injected. I seem to recall it was ácido bariburico. It's like Ley y Orden exploded all over SL.

La Sombra del Pasado #121 (Mx 124) - Wed 8/5 - Everybody cries

Em is having coffee with Vero and Don Ant.  They won't let him take off in the middle of the night alone--they're going with him, just as soon as they're all packed.

Cris asks Don Camilo to call Padre J as Aldonza is still crying and rocking Adelina's body.

Lola visits Padre J to see how Em's doing, but he's left already.  Lola throws a tantrum.  I agree Em is sad and shouldn't be alone, but he'll be with Don Ant and Vero.  Padre J doesn't seem to know that, but he thinks a little solitude would do Em some good.  The phone call from Don Camilo interrupts them.  Cara de impactado de Padre J!  And a "!no puede ser!" into the bargain.  He tells Lola that Adelina is dead.

La Sombra del Pasado #120 (Mx 123) - Tue 8/4 - Red dress blues

And a little bit of recapper blues!  I think your team is running ragged, but we are nothing if not dedicated.  Here's a quick and dirty rundown of last night, condensed for space…

Pru is frantically searching for the cell phone, which Juana obligingly hands over.  Thanks, Juana

Silvia is still recovering, and very well, and she's allowed to go home.  Renato gets an eye- and ear-full of her giddily hugging Tomas, kissing him, and telling him that YES, she wants him to stay with her night and day, forever and ever.  She also makes him promise not to go after Pru.

Do what you gotta do, bro La Sombra Del Pasado 119 (Mx 122) 08/03/2015

Hello my peeps, here is your recap!

When trying to bribe someone goes wrong:

Severiano is acting like a creeper and hiding in the shadows waiting for the , eh, what is he? Detective, ministerio publico, police officer? Sev tells the officer that he wants to know what he needs to do in order to get his gun back, the officer says it's simple: All he has to do is wait for Adriano's trail to be over. Sev says  he would be willing to give the good officer a very good compensation for his help. The officer wants to know how much Sev is willing to pay and Sev says that that's up to him (the officer).

Officer: "Well, I can tell you're terrified that we will match the bullets found in Raymundo's body to your gun"
Sev:" No, that's not the case at all, that's just one more story made up by that crazy woman. I don't even think the bullets came from the body, who knows where she got them from, so what do you say, will you help me get back the gun?"
Officer: I'm sorry but your offer doesn't interest me Mr. Mendoza, in fact  I don't have the gun any more, I recommend you try to bribe the judge, maybe you'll have better luck with him. Good night

Sev is left with his mouth hanging open, it was AWESOME.

La Sombra del Pasado #118 (Mx 121) 7-31-15 Emanuel FINALLY gets a hug!

Greetings, my dear friends!  Let’s jump right into our story.  Yesterday we ended with a cowardly, yet bold,  broad daylight attack on our beloved Silvia, right in the town square!  It was very shocking and painful for me last night and is no less so twenty four hours later!  Silvia screams and cries in pain for help as a waiter at one of cafes runs up and offers his apron and assures her the police have been called!

At this moment, Padre is with Eman offering him words of comfort and encouragement:  He is not the son of Severiano Mendoza, he is a child of God!   Essentially he tells him that Sev’s being his sperm donor is an unfortunate circumstance of destiny, perhaps a painful accident, but no more than that:  he should be proud of being Emanuel, only Emanuel because before God, none of us have a last name.  Padre leaves and Eman struggles but gives in to racking sobs.

Across town Prudencia confirms what I suspected.  Wearing a flaming red cape over black pants and top she answers the door and lets in the two scumbags who attacked Silvia.  They give her Silvia’s phone and show her a brief video they made of the attack.  Pru drunkenly chortles, tells them they did a good job and pays them.  Prudencia.  Enter thou the gates of hell!
