Freedom, and lies! La Sombra Del Pasado #69 05/22/15

It's a long weekend, let's all get some drinks and chill! (Some scenes have been combined, or moved out of order so I can get this recap up faster)

We start off the action where we left off last night, Satan has pulled a gun on my favorite boy in all of Sanata Lucia, Renato keeps his wits about him and tells Sev that he {Sev} will make a mistake and when he does Renato will pounce. Renato leaves and Sev is left only in the company of his lawyer (Nava?) who has a look on his face that says "they don't pay me enough for this crap"-seriously, go watch the actors facial expressions, you won't regret it!

In Joaquin news:

He offers E-man a job as his right hand man and E takes it and tells him that he will do his best for him and Aldi. I really like the friendship between these two, it's nice to see someone care for E, he deserves it! And Joaquin is a real bro! Joaquin has just finished talking to E-man when his harpy of a wife calls him to demand money, she gets him to agree to send money by asking him if he wants little Ray to starve.

Joaquin tells her to come home so they can talk about what's going on but she refuses-he then tells her he has sued her and she hangs up. Adriano the leech asks if Joaquin will send the money and she says he will, she's just not sure when and she warns Adriano that she won't sit around just waiting because she has a kid to look after, she also says she's worried about Joaquin suing her but Adriano tells her J-man is just bluffing, then he unloads little Ray on her.

Joaquin goes to see Silva and wants to know if he should go to the police with the bank account information so that they can find Flavia, Silvia says that's not a good idea, sending your kids mother to jail rarely is.

Padre J and Aldonza are at the police station waiting for news on Cris but they have nothing, they are just told to wait it out, E-man shows looking for news but is told that nothing has changed. Padre J is going to stay behind to see if he can talk to someone in charge and get more information and E-man says he will drive Aldi home. Padre J comments on the fact that  Aldi and E-man look very much alike, Aldi and E-man find this funny but you can see that Padre J is starting to put things together.

Adelina goes to see Dominga, she tells her that they are back living in Roberta's house and that Lola will be staying with them. Dominga is relieved and says she never thought keeping information from Lola would turn out so messy, Adelina tells her she understands, she too has kept secrets from Aldonza and when she finds out...well, things wont be pretty.

Dominga and Mel catch up over dinner, he is happy to know that Lola is staying with good people, they both worry that Lola wont forgive them, then Mel gets up to get some tortillas and has a dizzy spell. See, you can't trust carbs! Patio peeps, lets hold hands and pray that nothing happens to Mel.

E-man tells Aldi that Joaquin offered him a job working for them and he took it. Aldi is happy, she says it's her dream to restore the land to what it once was and he tells her dreams can come true, his dream is to have his pretty pony and Aldi tells him that his dream is now a part of her dream. Awww, do any of you still doubt who the missing baby is?

Like a creeper Lola watches from the window and later wonders why E-man did not come in, did he go to see Mari? Speaking of Lola, Adelina gives her another verbal smack down, she tells Lola that she has told Dominga that she is living with her and Aldi and that her grandparents will always be welcomed in the house because she {Adelina} will not allow Lola to behave like a spoiled child.

Later Aldi tells Lola that she got married to Cris. Pato visits Lola and it is clear that he likes her a lot more than she likes him.

E-man visits Mari who cries and cries because her brother died and she needed E-man and he was not there for her.

Sev goes to visit Uriel, he tells him he did his best to try and help Lardo but sadly he was unable to do much. He says he paid some debts for Lardo and helped him hide from the police when the whole apartment fire thing went down because he was sure Lardo had nothing to do with it, he tells Uriel he was a good father and not to blame himself for what happened. Uriel cries on Sevs shoulder. I want to throw a shoe at Sev.

Cris gets a pretty crummy dinner in his cell, but at least they give him a coke, so it's not *that* bad. He asks if his girlfriend has been to see him and the officer tells him that she came by but was asked to leave after she and his mom got into a fight. Cris asks for Aldi to be allowed to see him and the officer is all like "Does this look like a hotel to you?", then he tells Cris to finish his dinner.

Padre J comes to visit Aldonza, it seems he has connections and managed to get Aldonza a hall pass to see Cris, when Aldi goes to get her purse Adelina takes the chance to ask if he has gone to see Humberto, Padre J asks "I thought you did not want any part of this", Adelina points out that she is involved up to her neck and just then Aldi comes back and the two abandon the topic, Padre J leaves but not before saying that no one even offered him coffee!

At the Zapata household Val and Pru announce that they are going on vacation to Huston, cause Val just can't get over Cris. I vote they fall off the face of the earth!

Aldi and Cris see each other, she apologizes for the scene with his mom and he says he understands, he knows how his mother can be, Cris asks where her ring is and she says she took it off so no one would suspect that they got married, she asks where his ring is and he says he took it off and can't remember where he left it, but he promises to find it...

So about that ring...Candela finds it in the pocket of Cristobal's jeans, she figures out what happened real quick and yells for Sev, who has "care de impactado", he tells her they need to find the marriage license and find out when and where they married, they have to annul the marriage, Aldonza can't win! Ummm, how can they even do that? Cris and Aldi are over 18, you can't just undo your kids marriage, right?

Sev goes to the police station and is given good news, Cris is free to go, his finger prints were not on the weapon that killed Lardo, the police believe Lardo's "friends" had something to do with his death, Sev asks for Cris to be released right away but is told that Cris is long gone.

The first stop Cris made was to see Aldi, they agree that they need to tell his parents that they have gotten married, and off they go.

Candela and Sev are not happy, Cris was released from jail hours ago and he is still not home, as they talk about this Cris and Aldi walk in and drop the 'we got married,yo!" newa. Candela serves up a vile lie and says they can't be married because there's a possibility that they are brother and sister! Duuuuude, someone call Maury!

Good recap Eli!

Candela & Severiano are upping the ante by putting multiple roadblocks & their attempts to bust up Cris & Aldonza !

Eli- Yay! I have been waiting for your delicious recap. Straight to the point, but so satisfying. Thanks, amiga.

Well, well, Cande pulled a nuclear lie out of her back pocket in order to break the kids up. Sever was so shocked, but he rallied quickly to get on board with the lie. Now, will they be able to back up that lie with some tampered DNA proof? Poor Al and Cris. They can't even get a complete day of happiness without his parents messing it up.

I really hope nothing serious is wrong with Mel. Only serious enough for Lola to make peace with them.

Loved the brother-sister moments between Al and Eman.

Are Pru and Val going to Houston for an abortion? Or an extended 1 year stay, during which time she secretly has the baby and gives him up for adoption?

Well...that's one way to break up a couple. Cande was nothing short of masterful dropping that incest bomb! Will she go as far as rigging a DNA test or will just the idea give Al/Cris enough of the heebie jeebies for them to call it quits!?

Mari was right. Her brother was just murdered and her supposed boyfriend only showed up to comfort her at the end of the day after he was done helping everyone else around town. Dare I say it? She deserves better. And so does Pato in regards to how Lola treats him. I assume Pato/Mari and Em/Lola is where this will be headed but I really don't care. This second tier love story isn't doing it for me and I really couldn't care less about Em/Lola and their drama. I find Pato and Mari a bit more interesting separately and I guess together but still not really invested...for now. That could change.

Oh and great, concise recap, Eli!

Thank you Eli!

"I want to throw a shoe at Sev" Steel Toe boot more like it.

Gotta say Renato got nerves of steel with Severiano pointing that gun right in his face and the guy makes no mention of it to Aldonza. Business as usual.

So, does Cande say Severiano is both their daddy, which would mean Severiano raped his daughter, or does Cande take one for the team and say Ray is? It was already bordering on the ridiculous Severiano & Cande were going to annul a marriage between consenting adults and crosses over if this lie has any legs. Kids jump in a car and head to Mexico for a DNA test this afternoon.

Tofie - Cande doesn't know that Sev raped Aldonza and she didn't discuss her incest idea with Sev ahead of time, she dropped that out of nowhere at the last second in desperation. I assume she will say that Sev is possibly the Daddy of both and that the Roberta/Sev love affair started before either baby was born making Aldonza's father up for grabs between Sev and Ray.
That being said, if Cande does go that route, double ick for Aldonza who will think that not only does she have the hots for her brother but that her Father raped her. Yikes!

And why it is stupid of Severiano to go along with it. If Cande's big plan is Severiano the father, Aldonza immediately should know if he knew she was his daughter he would not have raped her. So try again.

Now if Cande is gonna say she slept with Ray, again idiotic. She is so worried her reputation in town and yet ok for the town to believe she had another mans child and passed him off as Severiano's for over 20 years.

Thanks so much for the excellent recap, Eli. Candy is crazed. She just refuses to realize that she cannot control her grown son. Severed is despicable. I will seeing his anvil fall.

Are Pru and Val really going to Houston ?

Thank you Eli. Great job. I love how PJ is working on solving the baby mystery. Seeing Emanuel and Aldonza together is working.

I figure that Sev will get Humberto to switch the DNA results of Emanuel with Cris so that it will show that Cris and Aldonza are related.

I can't see how they will explain how Roberta will be the mother of Cris and Aldonza when so many people know that they were born about the same time. And to say that Sev is the father of both will be equally difficult to prove since DNA will be more difficult to prove with any switching around. And then will Humberto go along with all of this and will PJ just sit silently by without his own investigation into things. And let's not mention the stern lecture he will give Cande.

My figuring was that Val and Pru will go to Houston for the abortion, but that will be too easy and what would be the whole point of her getting pregnant if that will be solved that way, but we'll have wait and see.

Hi, Eli!!! Double thanks, Girl for this bang up recap! BAM! Love it! Was able to hulu the episode and read the recap sooner than I thought!

Uuuuuh! That Sev! What a cynical, satanic, cold and evil bastard he is! I just can't think of words harsh enough! I hope Sev's end is that Uriel snap him in half like a dried twig! Let Uriel give a new meaning to that term, "snapped."

So Val and Pru are going to "Huston" for an abortion. Sounds just like a Vile/Putrid road trip, doesn't it?

Agree that the brother/sister plot is desperation, impure and simple! I've never seen the siblings separation ploy. With that being tried, that probably knocks out the possibility of an attempt at the baby daddy trick, doesn't it? Poor Cris and Donnie! Talk about droppin' it like it's hot: the way he dropped Donnie's hand!

I must say, Cande's fit over Cris and Donnie's marriage came off really crazier than usual in this episode. I don't know, I've always felt the intensity of her ire was totally wacko but it was close to comical in this episode! I hope that this vicious lie falls apart in short order. I know one thing. I'm done guessing and speculating: this is one crazy ride!

Thank you, Amiga, for this splendid recap!

Thank you Sara, for your recap of yesterday! Later!

Lila

Thanks for getting this recap up and in excellent form I might add.
The only thing that I would differ with you on was when you said---I vote that they (Pru & Val) fall off the face of the earth. Gringo says---no not Pru, she's a hoot. And Val? Well not so much. Let her fall off.

Gringo takes the opposite opinion of Linda in that I do care about E-man and Lola. I will be following that one very closely.
Pato and Mari? Well not so much.

We all know that it is too early for Cris and Aldi to be happy together. Don't know what Cande will do but with two minds (cande & Sever) filled with evil, I'm sure that they will come up with something to separate Cris from Aldi if for a short time anyway.

I'll be reading the comments as they pop up to see what the patio peeps think will happen.
the gringo

Thank you, Eli!!! Wonderful recap. Perfect summary of all the baloney that went on last night.

"See, you can't trust carbs!"

Oh, but they are so good!

Patio peeps, lets hold hands and pray that nothing happens to Mel.

Amen!! Please let it be gas. And please let Lola make up with her abuelos before one of them dies!!

I am slowly losing respect for Lola. She needs to stop her middle school games. She needs to cut Pato loose and get things straight with Eman.

The end of this episode just left me angry. Dammit. We have to go through this? I'd rather Cris get drugged and made to think he slept with Val.

Sev's face was hilarious. I swear it was like "Say what?"

Thanks, Eli for your recap. I just changed my server to dish from directv, and the Univision offer of ccEnglish caption is not working for Dish. So I have to do with Spanish subtitles which is minimal knowledge for me. So thanks again for the recap.
That was really a whopper lie that these two evil creatures spat out. Cant wait for Monday. Anne

Hello everyone! Cathy, Candela is saying that Sev is the father of both Aldi and Cris, not that Roberta is the mother of the two because there's no way the math would add up! I actually wrote a line about wanting Uriel to be the one to put Sev down like the dog that he is!

I don't feel bad for Mari, that's what you get when you try and force something that's not there.

I love carbs, they will be the death of me!

I'm worried though that Mari's grief will be a reason for E-man to keep staying with her. I can tell the Lila- Emanuel story is going to wear on my nerves.

Renato has been threatened with a gun. I hope Aldonza's friendship is worth it. It's not even worth waiting around for the end of the married.

I'll take my carbs with a side of fries, please.

The English captions on the Dish service do work for me. Try CC3 and if it doesn't work, try CC2 under closed caption settings.

I worry about Renato, I really, really like the character. Emanuel is the type that would stay with someone out of obligation.

I'm at a laundry mat and left my cash at home, and now I want fries!

I really like Renato, too. I don't want them to write him to where he looks like a sap for Aldonza and I'm afraid that's what it's starting to look like.

But I also don't want them to turn into a dark character. And for the love, don't throw some random female at me at the wedding reception during the last episode (I'm looking at you LFDD.)

Silvia is really growing on me, too. So much so that if they turn Renato into a sap I don't want her to end up with him.

I've always liked Silvia!

I don't even give Sever enough credit to say with 100% certainty that he wouldn't have raped Aldonza if he thought she might be his daughter for real. That's how much of a dog I think he is. See how he treats his bastard son, Eman.

This really has nothing to do with the story, but the necklace she was wearing in that scene with Joaquin was gorgeous. Much nicer than anything Low-renza ever wore.

Eli- I've always liked Silvia too. I think she's very straight forward and honest. I see no problem with her and Renato being end game, once he gets over his Aldonza obsession.

Preach, Vivi!

Though that does sort of insult dogs. ;-)

As long as he is really over Aldonza. Silvia doesn't deserve to be the girl anyone "settles" for.

I just like seeing smart women in novellas, she's smart, she has a career and sadly that's very rarely the norm in these shows.

No, it isn't.

Just caught up with this on UVideos, which was rather herky-jerky. Didn't see the detail of the Slap Heard Throughout Santa Lucia, so I might try watching this again tomorrow.

The incest thing was a desperation move on Candela's part and Satanic Sev didn't even see it coming. However, I think Cristobal will see this and realize that it was a lie. His mother has been irrational about Aldonza from Day One and by now would try anything.

I think that Lawyer Nava has realized who he is really working for. His facial expressions were priceless in that scene in the study. Renato is either very cool-headed or nuts, but he obviously knows never to let them see you sweat. I like that in a man.

Padre J will be all over this situation when he hears about it. I can just see him driving Aldonza and Cristobal to a hospital for the tests. And Emmanuel at the same time if he can think of a pretext.

Thank you for the recap, Eli! I really appreciate it.

You wanted to throw a shoe at Sev for lying to Uriel...I was just hoping Uriel would get some snot on his jacket. I lack imagination sometimes :)

Sev was deliberately provoking Renato and I think Nava knew that. Here's hoping he has the sense to resign as Sev's lawyer.

Hi, Ely. Gee, you did this episode with the detail and insight it deserved.

I think that the scene with Sev, Renato and the lawyer could be a hinge point in the plot. The lawyer's expression was like, "Hey, my practice is limited to bribing judges and misfiling legal papers. I'm not up for criminal stuff." (I also thought that when Cande approached him to defend Cris, he looked a little confused, as though to say, "I don't really know too much about criminal stuff."

Also in this scene, Sev told Renato that with Lardo gone it would be hard to prove his complicity, which to me is tantamount to admitting he was behind the whole thing, and Lardo was his operative. Or did I get that wrong?

I wish Ur would have vomited down the back of Sev's coat.

David

Ooo, David your comment about the lawyer turned on a light bulb for me. Hum is a mediocre doctor who was run out of town for malpractice and Sev used that as leverage to get Hum to do his dirty work. I bet Sev's relationship the lawyer is a similar story.

Yeah, Sara. So what Sev thinks of as his "impregnable defense" could in reality be a thin line of second stringers who resent him deeply.

David

That sounds sooo delicious, David. I am giddy with anticipation!

Thank you for the recap, Eli! You got an exciting episode. :-)

Pobrecito de Pato. Dude, she’s just not that into you. Come sit at the Cougar Table on The Patio, young man. We’ll help you forget Lola.

Melesio's "mareos" has me wondering if he might be pregnant. That's always a big sign in telenovelaland.
Either that or the poor guy is hypoglycemic. As far as the real plot goes, hopefully it is nothing too serious.

Sev’s face was so cara de I’m impressed with your fast thinking, Cande! and completely priceless.
Well, now we have our plot device to separate the novios. Again. Gah.

Casting dept. did a good job with Aldi & Em looking a lot like Roberta, Val looking a lot like Pru, Cris looking a lot like Cande.

Cougar table.

doris you are hilarious. I might sit at that table with you. I have ulterior motives, though - matchmaking.

Yes, the casting in this is superb. Val and Pru especially.

So will Pru and Val actually have to take the trip if Cris and Aldonza split up? Is there still time to trap him into believing the baby is his?

I was thinking that Melesio is being set up for a heart attack or a stroke. Then he gets rushed to the hospital, Lola runs there and then all is well between them again because Lola will realize how much she loves her grandparents and will miss them if they weren't alive anymore.

Lila, I agree with you too about Cande's total obsession with keeping Aldonza and Cris apart has reached the comical level. I was thinking how that poor actress has to ALWAYS be angry and spewing venom with every line she utters in this show. That has to be very tiring.

Sara: Val will likely trap him with the baby scheme for months, the producers will probably drag out this storyline throughout the entire summer!

If Sev is to be the father of Aldonza, then Roberta and Sev would have to have been having an affair when she was conceived. I can't remember the timeline of when they arrived to Santa Lucia, if they had her already or how soon they had her after the arrival. I might have to go back and watch it.

cathyx- I've always been a little fuzzy on the Roberta/Sev time-line. She was pregnant with E-man (we assume) very soon after Aldonza was born. Maybe Cande is just taking advantage of the fuzzy time-line?

The most effective lie has a grain of truth, so maybe Sev and Roberta took up very soon after Aldonza was conceived, but late enough for Roberta to know Aldonza belonged to Ray.

Never mind. I'm giving myself a headache trying to figure it out.

Count me in also on the Silvia love train. I like her so far - she's smart, career driven and hasn't done anything too crazy to try and get Renato to be hers. It's not like she's actively trying to destroy Aldonza in a crazed fit of jealousy or anything like that. She's mostly hanging back and focusing on bettering herself

I wouldn't mind Renato/Silvia ending up together either as long as he doesn't settle for her but I can't help but feel like his blind loyalty towards Aldonza will get him killed in the end. I hope I'm wrong.

I also find it hard to believe that Val's pregnancy will be gone after a simple trip to Houston. There has to be a purpose for making her pregnant and having only she and Pru know about it and having it be taken care of so fast and simply doesn't make sense. I don't see how this child won't try and be passed off as Cris's - I just don't know how it will be done or for how long.

Ok Sara, I went back to reread the recap and the comments from that first episode.

Vivi says, If Roberta and Sev have been getting it on for a while, how can they be sure that the baby she had recently is his or her husband's

And then you say, Severiano did try to cast doubt about paternity... And maybe that will end up a plot point, but as a viewer I assume no relationship since the two babies are supposed to fall in love.

And then Vivi says, Sara- Yep. I know they can't be related for the sake of our two babies eventually becoming a couple, but I want to know how Sev and Roberta know, and get the timeline of their affair established.

Thanks cathyx! I forgot I had even said that. And wow, I had a moment of clarity and called a plot point. I'm almost always wrong. That Cande has made the claim makes me wonder if she knew all along about Sev and Roberta.

Linda- I hope you're wrong about Renato, too... But dang it could totally happen. Now I'm going to worry about the boy every time I see him.

Here I go with comment bombing. Sorry. I never seem to gather my thoughts before I comment.

I am convinced that the pregnancy will continue to term and somehow will be passed off as Cris's. The only time I've every seen an abortion portrayed was on LFDD, and the woman died.

It is possible the trip will be extended to the point that the baby could be born and adopted (also done on LFDD.) But I just don't think they will do that.

Dammit. Sorry again.

All that to say yes, I agree with you all that there is no way this pregnancy is going away. There's no reason to write it in if it's conveniently taken care of.

I won't venture a guess as to how long the plot will drag out as that smacks of having watched ahead and knowing what's going to happen. And I don't want to leave any spoilers.

Thank you Anonymous for asking about English subtitles. I have DirectTV and can get Spanish subtitles, but can't access English translations.

Called DirectTV and was told "there ain't no such thing". Does anyone have it and how can I activate it?

A thousand thank yous

Emeraldrose - I know that with my old cable box I could go to settings and change the CC channel from 1(Spanish) to 3(English.) My new cable box only allows me to turn CCs on and off. Do Direct TV and dish allow their customers to change settings?

Also, my TV has cc settings I can change. Maybe you can do the same? I'm not sure if that will help though.

Morning everyone! Just popping by before I head out the door:

Eli - Muchas gracias! I, like UA, was getting a jerky view from uvideos.com, so thank you for explaining what the heck was going on. Fave line: Like a creeper Lola watches from the window because I was thinking the exact same thing! That girl is doing my Pato wrong! :( She and Aldonza need to get some sense about stringing guys along!

Silvia's great, but I was shocked by her advice to Joaquin. Give in to what practically amounts to blackmail and do nothing?! I know Silvia doesn't know that Flavia's on the run with a murderer, but I thought she would tell Joaq to deposit the money and then get info from the bank on where she withdraws it and go with the police so that he could 1) have his own bargaining chip 2) get Ray himself.

I want Al to get up in Cande and Sev's face like "I KNOW that's not true" but it's too early for that reveal, and Sev might jump ahead like Cande just did and say she had an affair with Ray as payback for his affair with Roberta, as Tofie suggested (Tofie-also with you on the steel toe boot. Or maybe a sement block.). Which will make Cris offer all of Las Animas to Eman if this lie is still around when that reveal comes out. Ay! So many secrets and half truths!

I was going to say to change the settings on your TV for the ccs. That's how I do it on mine. That means you use the remote that came with the TV, not the one with from the Direct TV.

The timeline for the Rob-Sever affair has always been fuzzy, and that's to the advantage of this lie. In their heated conversations between Sever and Rob, it was clear the affair had been going on for "some time", that Sever had started to cool, and Rob had started to get insistent. Al and Cris were only a few months old so it's highly likely Sever and Rob started up before either were conceived. The only thing we can be sure of is that Rob sure as hell would have thrown it in Sever's face if she thought Al was his kid. Just like how she was certain her second baby was Sever's and made sure he knew about it. By that point, she wasn't having sex at all with Ray (since after Al's birth).

Doris, I LOVE your cougar comments! Girl, you crazy!

Okay, I lied about not guessing or speculating anymore: In agreement with you all about Renato. He IS a fool for Aldonza and is absolutely Cris's alter ego who loves Aldonza as much, or maybe even more than he does; the self that can kill Sev when he finds out about the rape of Aldonza! If he kills Sev, I hope it's in self defense which Friday's episode made very much more likely. That way he can get off and end up with Silvia. That doesn't seem very satisfying because I agree Silvia is way above being "settled for". I've always liked her, too! The problem is, how does Renato get over his Donnie obsession because it sure feels like a "til death do us part" kind of thing!

Lila

Liking the recap Eli, really good. And funny. There should be laugh track for the looks on their faces after that whopper of a lie cande just told. The thing is:

#1.that would mean sev raped his daughter."yuck".
#2. He could say "I didn't know".(like that would have made a difference. Jerk!!!!
#3. Mama cande Is going to have to do some fancy rigging with the DNA testing & paper work.
These people are really desperate to keep these 2 people apart, to come up with a lie like that. now all someone has to do is come up with a really secretive way to get a DNA test and don't tell anybody about it.

but this is a soap opera and they will probably drag it out for affect. so just get ready for a long sometimes boring ride. Or they could work it out sooner. Lets hope for sooner.

Nina

Wait. Wait. It finally clicked Nina's comment.

If Santa Lucia can't even manage fingerprint analysis how the hell can they do DNA? Is that goes down in the SL I'm going to be furious with the writers.

If they do go to the DF for the test, how do Cande and Sev tamper with the results. They are nobodies in the DF.

I mean "it finally clicked for me with Nina's comment."

Don't know why I didn't think nobody is the first time the patio brought up DNA.

Because surely Silvia will bring that up. I doubt Renato will want to.

Renato might have to see Aldonza risk her life over Cristobal -- or vice versa -- to have that light bulb go on.

Although it was never previously stated I think that Roberta's affair with Severiano could have started while she was pregnant with Aldonza. I have been thinking that Sev planned this in his Machiavellian way to cuckold Raymundo as the first step in getting El Santuario back. Not sure what his next step would have been if it hadn't all gone to hell, but his Plan B hasn't been effective so far.

Roberta -- who was about as maternal as I am -- didn't nurse Aldonza and therefore got knocked up rather quickly after her birth when she wasn't having relations with Raymundo. That's how she knew that Sev was the sperm donor.

As I recall the look on Candela's face in the hospital room, she didn't know about the affair until Roberta ranted about it in front of her. That was the deciding moment, the most humiliating moment of her life. That was what changed her from someone comparatively normal to the cold fish she's been ever since. And I'll also bet she still doesn't know all the relevant facts of the situation. I'm willing to bet that:

-- Sev never told her the backstory about the ownership of El Santuario
-- He also never told her about how he was injured and that Roberta killed Raymundo to save his sorry butt.

She also doesn't know about how he and Roberta started getting it on in the church and were caught by Padre Sixto... or that Sev murdered him because he knew about the affair.

That last part might horrify her even more than the rest of it.

Great point about the fingerprint deficiency and how the ability to do a DNA test in SL would be a major inconsistency here.

Somebody has to go running to Padre Jeronimo who is the only person in this entire town smart enough to figure out this situation and its solution. It bugs me that he still doesn't know that Sev raped Aldonza, but seeing how he has reacted to other stuff, I'm sure Adelina is wise not to have told him yet.

Also, considering how people gossip in that town, how can Valeria go to the local pharmacy for a home pregnancy test and not have that be the next Hot Topic?

Oh wow, Urban. I hadn't even thought of the gossip and Val's pharmacy trip.

Sara and Cathyx....Thank you so much. I have been using my Harmony remote, so dug out the TV remote and found all kinds of goodies....INCLUDING THE SLEEP TIMER, which I was assured was non-extant. Am still fiddling with CC, but will get it figured out.

Yay, Emeraldrose! So glad we may have helped. Keep us posted. Your info may help others.

I like Renato a lot and hate it he is this love struck checkook. Reminds me of La Impostora and a young honest police lieutenant (Salvador) fell for Blanca to his determent. He sacrificed everything only to die and never even got laid. Like you guys and gonna be real mad if that happens here.

I give major props to Silvia. She's smart, pretty, works and pays her own way. Aldonza doesn't even clean up her own home or boil water so forget about doing any work. Let's see, Irma works, Mari works, Lola works, Lulu works, Adelina works and Dominga works. Only Cande, Val and Aldonza got men paying their way.

I've been waiting to hear from you tofie! You did not disappoint. Love your tell it like it is comments.

IMO things are not looking good for Renato. But hopefully it's just me being worrywarty.

I have hope that seeing Silvia on the daily being a smart, beautiful self-sufficient woman will eventually show Renato that he's been a dope. Hopefully by then she won't have run off with Joaquin or Pato or Eman or Toma's or the dude with the great voice.

I really hope she points out that they can't trust sev and Cande because it looks like A and C might be that dumb.

Tofie - Adelina doesn't have a job unless I missed something but she should really get one and a life of her own. She doesn't seem to do anything despite their financial situation and I am unsure if she has ever worked including their time in Mexico. She only seems to run errands from time to time and is a real homebody.

Candela still loves the mansion, the buji lifestyle & I believe Ray is Aldonza's father!

Unless Maury Povich makes a guest appearance!

Adelina is a designer/seamstress, but since she insists on covering everything up with a cardigan, we can't really see her work. She was either working for someone else or on her own in DF, but in SL it's been all about Mis Planes and she hasn't had the time to establish a new business what with all the new drama every five minutes.

Which is not to say that there isn't any value to keeping house. It's important work that adds to the value of the work done outside the home by the other people in the household.

Linda - Adelina was a seamstress in the DF and I think she made a pretty nice income.

Ha! Beat me to it, Kat.

If Kirby can correct spellings then so can I.

Steve- I've corrected you before. It's "bougie" here's a link to the etymology of the phrase.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=bougie

Wait, now I'm confused...I never knew what that word meant before, so thanks for the link, Sara.

But Cande really *is* rich, not trying to pretend she is, so I'm not sure it really applies?

Maybe I'm better off staying away from this newfangled slang...I'm still back in the 80s with "dude" and "like" and"totally"...and if anybody ever tells me "cool" is no longer "cool" then I really don't know what I'll do!

There are several ways that the DNA can be made to have the results they want. Since the DNA request and blood drawing will be done by Humberto, he doesn't send it in and simply tells them the results came back and tell them that they are related, even write up a fake report. Or, Hum can get a hair sample from Emanuel, I'm sure his house has DNA samples from Emanuel still there, send that in instead of Cris's blood sample and then no faking of results are needed and the results will show a positive.

Lol! I've actually had it come up in class before. I loved watching the little student light bulbs go off when they connected it to the French Revolution.

Yeah. I teach Spanish, but when a kid says "bougie" I make it a teachable moment. Though come to think of it I haven't heard the term lately. I'll have to ask them what the new term is. They seem to change their slang every school year.

Candela is just like Luc of QA: heartless, cold *****, who has NO SOUL!

Good point, cathyx. Because I'm sure no one will want to have the DNA results done by an independent clinic. *sigh*

That's a show I never saw, so I can't really speak to the comparison, but it's hard to reconcile the idea of a soulless Cande with her obvious affection and concern for Dominga. Can a soulless person really feel any affection for anyone?

And then there's her lifelong crush on a (now) man of the cloth.

She's pretty mean and nasty and I might go so far as "evil" but I don't agree with "soulless."

Hmmm, Severiano is pretty close to soulless. My test is if there is anyone they would not destroy/kill. Maybe for Severiano the only one is Cris but then he is all too willing to rape the girl his son loved and at some point will rub it in Cris's face.

Cande is just bitter and the worst she's done is be complicit in Emmanuel's disappearance in plain sight. But not so sure it wasn't the best for the boy, Roberta would have used him as a pawn with Severiano and Severiano may have killed the boy to eliminate a problem for good.
I really don't blame Cande for not wanting her son to marry the daughter of her husbands mistress. I do for the vitriol and slaps but at least it is to Aldonza's face and no secret, plus Aldonza is giving it back.

Cande and her vitriol - I need reminders/clarificsrion. When the curtain went up on this thing, Cande already hated Rob. But then we are supposed to believe that the first she heard of Sev's adultery was after Sev's "accident" when Rob dropped the baby bomb.

So why did Cande hate Rob?

I do like that Aldonza doesn't put up with Cande's crap.

No. It's really not important but I want to know more about that.

Is there a best slap category at the award show? Sombra should take that award home.

What's with all the mention of Maury? Jerry Springer would be a better match for this SL crowd.

Val could always fall down some stairs and miscarry. And die, while she's at it. Escaleracide works for me.

Mary works? Where? ( She blows in and out of Irma's shop but does she do any real work there?)

Highly unlikely that Sev is Aldi's father, unless Sev is NOT Cris' father.

Maybe it's the puppy you used to use as your profile pic doris, but I always think of you as a sweetheart. Then you throw out a line like

"Val could always fall down some stairs and miscarry. And die, while she's at it. Escaleracide works for me."

And it makes me love you even more.

In early episodes, I think I suggested that Cande had a thing for Ray. The incest rule knocked that idea off the field ( well, my theories are always wrong, anyway-LOL ) but at this point, anything is possible. Could Cande have had rebound sex with Ray when PadJer went to seminary? Could Ray have been her plan B, but Roberta came to town and stole him away? CARAY, CARAY!!! Anything is possible.

Sara -there SHOULD be a best slap category. It's almost like these slaps are choreographed. They'er perfect. I only like them when the right person gets em.

Hellashelle- I agree, I hope cris & ally aren't dumb enough to trust what his lying parents say about them being sis & bro. Did you see how fast ally let go of cris' hand, and did you see the look on her face? If I didn't know better, I'd say she was headed for the big "D".

They've had so many obstacles: crazy parents, rape, lies of various types, nasty exfiance, baby deception, and now the granddaddy of them all, "you can't be married to her because she's your sister". LOL!!!!!
Monday will be fun.

Nina

Cande has an irrational hate for all things Alcocer. Could it be so irrational that she had hated Roberta from way back because she (Roberta) DID get her Alcocer man (Ray) while SHE (Cande) didn't get HERS (Jeronimo)??

There was never any suggestion by the show that Cande was in love with Ray- it was always hinted that she loved someone else and we now know it was Jeronimo. We are also 70 episodes into this thing, if Cris were not Sevs kid they would have told us by now, in this case I think things are just as they seem.

I also doubt Humberto will fake the DNA test, maybe the old Humberto would have but Humberto 2.0 is trying to break free of Sev why would he agree to help? Especially since we have seen that he feels guilt about all the crap that was done to Roberta and her family

Oh and I also don't think Cande hated Roberta, she disliked her but then so did most people in SL- it was only after the affair came out that the real animosity started

You make a lot of sense Anon2:56

I'm with you, Eli. It may have only been once, but Sev is the only man Cande has been with. Even if she tries to bluff otherwise.

Speaking of the slaps, I'm absolutely fascinated by them on a technical level. Before directing this show, I'd never really thought about it, but since I'm now in the position of being responsible for everything that's going to happen, I've been reading up. I had never considered how dangerous it can be to actually slap someone, especially for multiple shows a week in the theater, or multiple takes in front of the camera.

On the purely cosmetic side, you don't want to have to keep re-touching the makeup to cover the marks. On the acting side, if the actor knows it's coming and they keep flinching, it ruins the effect and/or needs multiple takes. Then there's the potential for broken bones, ruptured eardrums, chipped teeth.... Thankfully one of the actors in the show has a lot of training and he'll be teaching us how to do it so nobody gets hurt.

While Aldonza's slap of Cande was epic the granddaddy of slaps was the backhanded slap Severiano gave Simoneta before he pitched her in the street.

The subtitle for this show could be "Slapapalooza".

As The Slap Burns

Oh doris and tofie! Y'all are a hoot!

Put an extra chair over at the Silvia table out on the patio. The gringo definitely is in the Silvia camp. This lady has it all
ambition, brains, beauty, desire for success. This lady has it all.
I'm surprised that there isn't a line or a take a number and wait your turn for a chance to win this
winner. Silvia sure doesn't need or deserve leftovers. She should have the men lined up begging her to chose them.

Lola---you could also be a winner
Come on and get your act together.

I can't believe that Candy will be able to pull off a relation thing between Aldi and Cris but this is a novela. I will be front and center Monday night.
the gringo

I will bring palomitas, gringo!

As much as I sometimes feel like things are a little predictable, I really was surprised by Cande's move. And that's sad, because cathyx already quoted me saying it might come up.

I just love how this move by Cande totally took Sever by surprise. Since she's making up this plan on the fly, who knows what's coming next. Clearly she didn't have time to think up what to do about DNA, but I'm sure she will. As someone above mentioned, swapping Eman's DNA for Cris' would do the trick.

Eli is right. When we first started, Cande did not hate Roberta. She just snobbishly turned up her nose at her like everyone else. The crazy hate didn't start till after the affair/baby reveal.

The make-up department has screwed up in my opinion. Yes Simoneta has taken some BRUTAL slaps/blows and not a bruise or red mark on her. Come on, this is unreal.

Read my comment earlier about slaps---Aldonza to Cande and what would happen here.

Slaps and brutal is normal fair in novelas but I don't think people could get away with that kind of stuff over here.
the gringo

I don't think people could get away with it anywhere.

I have a stupid slap question for Kat. In TV actors can fake a slap and a sound effect can be added later. What in the world do you do when it's a live performance?

Candela prefers all of the remaining Alcocer family members end up dead!

Her hatred for the family has gone over 100%!

I do believe Humberto will fake a DNA test.

So as not to ruin the illusion for anyone, my answer is Google "How to stage slap" and look at the video that's 3:21 long posted by "milhouselikeslisa" and that's a good overview.

Simoneta did have a bruise on her face that was still there when she went to see Lola at the shop. It was obvious enough to make me wonder if Irma noticed it and was going to bring it up.

Not everyone bruises the same way, so that's tricky to say what should and shouldn't leave a bruise. I've bumped into things hard enough to think there would be a mark several times and nope...whereas things that didn't seem as painful ended up leaving bruises. There's probably some science to the combination of how much pressure + the area over which it's applied + the part of the body + who knows what else, that explains it.

Kat- I thought Irma DID mention the bruises to Lola, something like did you see her face, and Lola nodded.

And yes, the red bruises were obvious on Sim's face.

I think you're right, Vivi. I don't remember the reaction, though...was there any concern from Lola?

(I was just overcome with the sudden urge to say to the actress "OK, so we've established that you do see the bruise on her face...what's your emotional reaction to that?...OK, make sure we see it." Back down, Kat, you're not directing THIS show!)

I believe Lola's reaction was a silent, wide eyed, head nod. To be continued next episode.

Whew! OK...not that I won't be (not so) silently judging her if that reaction doesn't match her later actions *facepalm*

OK, back to attacking my script with hi-lighters and Post-it notes....

We should be counting the slaps and then have a poll as to how many total slaps by the end.

It's almost too late to start counting the slaps now. Too many have already happened and we will surely forget some.

What I still fail to understand is how Roberta managed to marry Raymundo if she already had a rep as the town slut. Can anyone explain that?

I don't think Humberto would fake a DNA test for Sev. He may be weak, but he has a conscience that is waiting to take over.

We need the padre in to take care of this.

I don't think Candela's contempt for Roberta had anything to do with Raymundo. It was about Roberta's loose behavior. In a little Peyton Place like SL this would hardly be unusual.

Thanks for the slap info, Kat. I'll check that out.

Urban- Roberta and Adelina aren't from SL. Ray brought Rob there as his bride, and Adelina moved there some months after Aldonza was born- first just for the christening, and then she stayed for Al after all the crap hit the fan.

Ray also didn't seem to care that the town gossips about his flirty hot to trot outsider wife. It was only after she turned cold on him, and Sever made specific accusations of infidelity, that he started to get suspicious. Then her disappearing in the middle of the night, leaving her baby at home, caused the final and deadly confrontation.

The days of our slaps, the guiding slap and my favorite, all my slaps. Just contining the silliness. With all the anger and hatred theres bound to be more of that this week. (Slaps) Or a lot of tears. O cris open your eyes to mom and dad. They'er not very nice people.

All My Slaps ---- My favorite!

Nina, how about, "The Slaps of Our Lives."

;D

Another Slap?

I'm going to watch the Simoneta/Lola meeting again. Maybe I wasn't watching intently and missed the bruised face. Something that hasn't been mentioned yet---Sev pushed/threw
Simoneta pretty hard out onto the sidewalk causing her to fall onto the cement. I was thinking a scraped knee to say the least.

Severiano is one mean brutal
bastard. What I would like to see
is when he puts his finger in someone's face, he gets it broken.
That would be a good lesson for him.
the gringo

Well, he lost an arm and didn't learn his lesson...

No one has mentioned yet to Dominga and Melesio that their ex-daughter-in-law is Sever's lover. Neither Cande nor Cris told Dominga when she told them about Lola being ticked off, and Lola hasn't mentioned it to her abuelos either. I keep worrying that one of them (Mel or Dominga) is going to bring her up to Sever and he's going to blow his top at them and get abusive.

What I would like to see
is when he puts his finger in someone's face, he gets it broken.

When I read that, I had a sudden vision of Sev doing his trademark "Shh.." move in Silvia's face andher just grabbing his finger and snapping it back. So satisfying.

Hum might not want to switch DNA results, but Sev might threaten him with revealing what happened with Eman, saying he stole Eman because he wanted a son or something and say Hum lied to EVERYONE, including Sev abuot this. And since Hum's been run out of one town before for bad doctoring....And since his daughter's already "shamed" and unstable...

Tofie good points about Eman. Though I want to believe that once Sev raped Aldonza, Rob would've still reacted as she did and wanted nothing to do with him, despite having had his son.

Cathyx - omg, I hadn't even thought about him just stealing E's DNA. Would he be replacing Cris' or Aldie's? Of course, someone would have to see or hear about this and bring it up in three months (Hum asks the maid for his brush or Joaq or Eman walks in on Hum stealing Eman's comb or something...)

Maybe Val will be left sterile after abortion complications and later have to fake a pregnancy to keep Cris after he finds out Aldie's not really his sister? Honestly, I feel like every time a villana has an abortion or miscarriage, she's left sterile.

The Slaps and the Distress?

That would be good, to see sev lose another appendage farther south, that would really slow him down. the guy is a kingsize
Jerk. He 's luky ray didn't aim lower.

Nina

I don't think Sev and Cande are willing to have people know that Eman is Sevs bastard

No, they aren't.

It might throw a shadow over Humberto, but it would definitely make Sev look like the sleaze that he is. Candela took his adultery as a personal insult and feels that it would make a laughingstock of her. Not sure of that since SL looks like the sort of place that would accept his behavior as routine, so this would require a bigger and more detailed disclosure of things she doesn't know yet.

Eli is right because this means that Emmanuel has inheritance rights. That is what she can't take. She wants everything to go to Cristobal and probably realizes that Cristobal would share whatever he got with Emmanuel, the son of a whore.

Lol, Nina!

I've asked this before and I know y'all answered, but I can't remember. Las Animas belongs to Cande, so I'm sure in her will it all goes to Cris. When we talk about inheritance rights, we are talking about Sev's money, coorect? Because surely Cande separated their assets.

Oh I remember, someone mentioned that even if Cris got it all he'd share with E-man.

Am I remembering correctly?

Sara, yes.

Wished we had more of the story and not Severiano's version. Cande's family seem to have been landed gentry, perhaps short on cash and Severiano used the land (and Ray & PJ's) and assets to build a lucrative horse breeding business. What I would like to know is if Ray & PJ's family had anything prior to winning it in a card game or is that really how they acquired the land. Cande, Ray & PJ played together as children and socialized as teens & adults so she must have thought them equals but what about Severiano? With no land and no money was she scraping the bottom of the barrel or was it because Severiano had an old family name but flat broke?

I would love to know more. When we got the card game flashback I had hoped it was the first of many. So far no dice.

And you brought up great points, tofie. Cande, Ray and PJ grew up as equals... So how the hell did Cande end up with Sev?

Yeah, where did that scum come from. So, Cande was in love with PJ and he broke her heart so she went out and found herself a whore and tried to make him a husband, yet she bitches about her buddy Ray finding him one and making her a wife.

And PJ unwittingly broke her heart. Poor guy didn't even have a clue.

Not that it would have mattered. He probably always knew he was headed for the cloth. That Cande is so angry at him for not loving her just makes me dislike her repressed a$$ even more.

While I agree Cande got major hang ups about sex, believing anyone that had intercourse more than twice in their lifetime or not for procreation a whore, I feel a little sorry for her. I can see a happy little girl playing with her friends and falling helplessly in love with PJ but frightened by what she felt, wishing on a star to be his wife someday, blushing and trembling when he was near and that come tumbling down. Not caused by a man that was nasty and abusive or married another but one that became forever unavailable for the same reasons she fell for him in the first place. His goodness, fairness and commitment to others.

I think cande has a boat load of stuff she wants to keep hidden. People thats always guick to point their finger at other peoples faults has hidden junk they don't want exposed. What attracted her to her whore, and was he that way when she met him?
The girl is a first class hypocrite. I do not like cande. she has exhausted herself above the masses.

Nina

I do feel sorry for Cande the girl. But Cande the woman is another story.

When she got her heart broken by PJ, which was not his fault, she began to blame others for her misery.

If I find out that we have a Que te perdone dios situation and she was forced to marry Sev and divorce meant she would lose Las Animas, then I might feel sorry for Cande the woman.

Fair distinction and believe Cande the girl is the one Dominga loves and would love to ring the neck of the woman.

I want to know more about PJ's past too. Damn I got a big wish list.

I think we all have a big wish list.

They've done such a good job of showing us how much the past affected the present story, but without the details, that we are curious about the past.

My comment got losed in the cosmos. I was just saying that how hypocritical cande is. She grew up with these people and now they'er not good enough for her. And you'er right sara, how did she end up with the town male slut? He might have other seed sprinkled around town. wouldn't it be something if Simonetta had a child for him that she kept hidden from him all these years?

Is that you, Nina? I did see that comment since I subscribe to the comments.

Theres my comment farther up.→→↑ I thought it got losed. Any way thats me up there to, (cande being a hypocrite)→→→↑

We're not sure how long ago El Santuario changed hands. Sev never spoke of playing on the grounds as a child, for example, and we don't know what happened to his abuelos after the loss. So now I'm going to speculate:

Sev's abuelos left SL and went elsewhere. Sev's father would have been a teen or young adult and probably completed his education by then. He may have had a decent job after graduating but wasn't rich. Sev has enough surface polish to have attended college and the social smarts to meet "the right people." Since he is still a good rider he probably rode competitively in his youth and won some trophies.

Including Candela, whose parents (if they were still alive) might have considered him a good catch because of his eye for horses. He could be trusted to run a thriving business of breeding and training horses that could be sold for mucho dinero.

Candela, who was still hung up on the future Padre, probably considered him an acceptable alternative because he was attractive, polished, and smart. She probably still cared a great deal for him up until learning that he was boinking Roberta.

So... what makes him such an evil man out for revenge? How about his father telling him eventually that his abuelo lost the land and became an alcoholic afterwards? Maybe it's hearing about how beautiful the place was to the child his father had been and a wistfulness about it. This could have influenced Sev's choice of studies, friends, career... and a bride. That Candela was beautiful was a bonus.

Then he had the opportunity to hurt Raymundo through Roberta and took it, probably hoping that he could prevent Candela from ever finding out. From the moment she did none of his best-laid plans have worked perfectly.

Urban-did this really happen, or are you guessing? Cause it sounds like it could have happened that way, leading up to all this craziness. Sounds like Peyton Place on steroids. the industrial strength kind. And you know how screwed up peytons place was. It would be nice to see what their family life was like before all of this twisted drama. Tonight should be a treat. THE BIG LIE!!!!!

NINA

I would love a prequel and prefer what the story could tell us to trying to keep Aldonza and Cris apart with Renato the orbiter as an alternate when Aldonza goes wobbly.

Gimme, Ray and Roberta meeting, courting and marrying, the first time Severiano and Roberta met, Cande devastated when PJ left and her decision to marry Severiano and please how long was Roberta running off the tracks and what caused it if anything.

Candela reminds me of Greta Ripoli from Hasta El Fin Del Mundo: spoiled brat, who leaves the wealthy lifestyle!

LEAVES the wealthy lifestyle?

Um. She's kind of still there, Steve. Do you even watch the show and did you read any of the last 10 comments in which it was stated often that Las Animas belongs to Cande.

And this is a thread about LA SOMBRA DEL PASADO.

I'll give you credit for at least acknowledging the recap in your first comment. Otherwise, most of what you've said is apropos of nothing.

I was watching the openning cerdits, the actor that plays sev, I can picture him singing that song. Of course thats not him. He looks like he'd have a voice that sounds like that. By the way who sings the openning credits song.?

Mijares. It's a lovely song.

I think there's only one Nina. When you commented about the opening theme, you must have just commented at Anonymous. But when you thanked me you must have filled in a field with "nina"

Unless there are two. One with a capital N and one with a lower case n.

So are you saying you don't recap? cause I saw your photo with the other recapers. I'm new to this scene, all of you guys are just so much fun when yall do your recaps.

Sometimes I use a capital N, but I probably should choose one so there won't be any confusion. capital 'N'.
