La Sombra del Pasado #62 - Wed 5/13 - Longest bus ride ever

Lola runs into Emmanuel after his confrontation with the doc.  He tells her he's not Humberto's son, but he did learn something important…there is something turbio (shady) going on as concerns his parents.  *cough*thisonegotallthesmarts*cough*  Lola recommends a manita de puerco (twisting his arm) and offers to help, but if Doc was going to give up the goods, he would have done it already.  Em is going to start investigating, but he's got bigger fish to fry at the moment…Solitario is being sold off and he's determined to buy him!  Mari's going to get her daddy to give him a loan or something.  Lola doesn't buy that--nor I!  Em tilts Lola's face to look in her eyes and asks if she's jealous.  Lola denies it, huffily and walks away, also huffily.

Uriel gave Irma a pill and some tea and she's finally resting.  He asks Mari how she's doing with Emmanuel.  She brings up the "favor" of a loan for…well, it's complicated…there's a horse.  Uriel says Emmanuel would need collateral, and no, they won't accept the horse as a guaranty.  Uriel knows what "Don" Sev's horses tend to go for and he thinks Emmanuel needs to start with an economy horse rather than a luxury model.  Since batting her eyelashes has been unsuccessful at getting Uriel to change his mind, Mari is outta there with a swish of her ponytail.

Dominga comes to tell Cande that dinner is ready, but Cande can't think of such trifling human things as dinner when her son is off with That Woman!  Dominga tells Cande that nagging Cris isn't going to get her anywhere.  If she makes him choose between the woman he loves and his family…he'll choose love.  That's the circle of life, kid, so deal!  Cande tells Dominga to get out of her room.  And then the pondering starts.

The ringleader of Lardo's poker buddies goes to his house to shake down his dad.  Oh, this is the "You won't pay me?  Fine, I'll tell your daddy on you!" maneuver.  He confines himself to telling Uriel to tell Lardo to meet him at the usual place, if he knows what's good for him.  I don't feel bad for Lardo being on the run from both the law and his skeevy little friends, but I do feel bad for his parents suddenly having their eyes opened to what's been going on right under their noses this entire time.

Over at Padre J's he's down to his last prescription pill of some kind and darn happy about it.  His neck looks a little more flexible, too.  He starts to ponder whether it was tough for Adelina to watch the love of her life, Raymundo, with Roberta.  Adelina refuses to think of it that way.  "I know, but…I can't stop thinking of all the pain my brother would have saved himself.  But, you're right.  There's no point talking about what didn't happen."  And since that "chapter" of her life is closed, Padre J wonders if Adelina is going to give herself the opportunity to love someone else.  Adelina says there IS no other man for her, and there never will be.  She asks him to please drop the conversation and never mention it to Aldonza.  No worries there, her secret is safe with Padre J.  Hm, I notice he didn't promise not to keep an eye out for eligible bachelors, though…Padre J's Matchmaking Service: The Next Best Thing to A Match Made In Heaven!

Joaquin slugs back a shot of tequila.  He's toasting to having pressed charges on Flavia.  Emmanuel thinks it was a stupid move, but he's not one to contradict his new roomie.  He tells Joaquin about Solitario and his plan to buy him.  "And then what?"  Emmanuel says he and that horse are practically one person.  They're soulmates.  They can win big on the competition circuit.  Joaquin likes his ambition, but doesn't think this is a solid plan.  Joaquin has some money saved up, but he doubts it's enough to even buy one hoof.  He tells Emmanuel it looks impossible, but what the hell, who is he to take away Em's dreams.  He hands him a shot of tequila.

Pru meets Tomas in the park, but insists on talking to him from behind a tree.  He tells her that Lardo promised not to bother her again and if anyone ever tries to blackmail her again, they'll have to deal with her Papi Chulo.  He steals a kiss as his reward and begs to know where he and Pru can go be alone.  He's crazy about her!  Pru says this is why she didn't want to come--he always ends up talking her into it.  She hides when a woman walks too close to her tree and then re-emerges to tell him this is why they can't be together.  Someone's going to catch them and she'll have problems.  It was nice, but it just can't be.  "If you really love me, you'll understand that this is what's best."  She gives him a final kiss goodbye and leaves.  His eyeballs sweat.

Humberto comes home to a snotty Val, once again playing with her tablet.  Hey there, tablet. Haven't seen you in a while.  She doesn't know where her mother is, but she packed his bags so he can move into his "son's" room.

Aldonza calls a drunken Renato.  He tells her he's glad they're still friends.  Aldonza agrees and says he's still her friend and her lawyer.  Well, speaking of work, he's got a proposal ready for her neighbors in the apartment for her to review and sign.  She sets a meeting the next morning at a café just as Cris is walking in wearing a…no, wait, didn't catch it, let me rewind…it's a draping of some kind, I can't quite make it out…it's some sort of a fluffy piece of fabric…ok, I've rewound this four times now and I still can't…ohhhhhh, it's a towel!  A towel around his hips.  And nothing else.  Aren't y'all glad I quadruple checked?  Wouldn't want to leave out any vital details.  Did I mention he's still damp from the shower?  Anyway…Cris hears Aldonza make her coffee date…and ask if Abelardo has been caught yet…and say that it's important he's caught so she can start making Severiano pay for taking away the one thing her mother left her. *cough*besidesthebankaccount*cough*  Cara de "Qué the hell?" de Cris.

As Humberto starts hanging his stuff up in Emmanuel's room, Val wonders why he waited so long to tell them.  I wonder what the point was of packing up his stuff just to bring it downstairs so he could bring it back upstairs.  I think my wondering is more compelling.  Humberto doesn't exactly answer the question as he asks if she would have accepted Em as a brother if Hum had said that Em was his son…he doesn't think so.  Val keeps haranguing him and saying he's not worthy of respect (um, so maybe somebody doesn't need to be worthy of a charge card and a car, then) and tries to leave, but Hum says they're not finished.  More venom from Val, culminating in the question, "What if I had decided to pay attention to him?  Did you ever think of that?"  Humberto, frustrated, says nothing would have happened because they don't share blood.  "I said that to your mother because she was driving me nuts."  That shut Val up for about five seconds, until she decided he was only saying it to try to shut her up.  He says that's not it and he knows he shouldn't have done it, and he shouldn't have accused Pru of taking up with Lardo, but he's sure she was hiding something!  Val says she was--to protect her.  Lardo has been harassing her for a long time.

Renato tells Aldonza not to worry about making Sev pay right at the moment.  Towel-clad Cris lurks in the background.  Is he still wearing a towel?  Let me check.  Yep, still wearing a towel.  Renato bids Aldonza a good night and sends her telephonic kisses.  As I pause to verify Cris' continued state of undress, Mr. 5ft remarks, "Here comes the macho dick outburst."  Or maybe not…Cris actually focuses on the important part of the conversation--the accusation about his dad burning down her apartment.  He heard about that from Lola, but hadn't had a chance to ask her what with….  She tells him "Renato has strong reason to believe" Lardo burned down her apartment on Sev's orders.  I wish she'd started with fingerprints and containers of gasoline and told him THE COPS suspect Lardo.

Lola gets home, but she's not hungry for dinner.  And no, Pato didn't do anything.  It's Em and his sadness over everything going on.  They talked.  As friends.  But then Doc Zapata's wife showed up and started screaming at Em and saying he's the doc's son and she jumped in to defend him and…well, no, she didn't slap Pru.  Em asked her to go with him to see the doc, but it seems like it's not true.  The doc is not Em's father.  And Em's staying with Joaquin.  A heavy sign from Lola…and on top of everything else, he wants to buy Solitario and he's too stubborn to realize it's a stupid idea.  Lola heads off to bed.  Melesio quietly asks Dominga if Lola has been seeing Viviana (Simoneta)…Dominga says she hasn't said anything about it.  Melesio thinks they need to consider Padre J's advice.  They don't want Viv (Sim) to tell her first or Lola will never forgive them.

Uriel can no longer resist and calls Sev for an update on his wayward-but-not-as-far-away-as-advertised son.  He tells Sev that Lardo was at his house yesterday to steal stuff and some dude came by looking for a gambling debt Lardo owed.  Sev claims that Lardo got away from him yesterday and he hasn't been able to reach him.  He promises they'll find him before the cops or the loan shark and he's on his way home today.  They hang up and Sev says Lardo's so stupid there's no way to help him.

Renato calls to tell Silvia that he's planning to be in SL tomorrow, as long as he can get some paperwork finished up with his mom's lawyer.  Silvia asks how he's doing…well, Ren wasn't doing so well last night, but onward and upward.  He'd like her to go with Pato and find a house to rent.  Nothing too big, but in the center of town.  Preferably with two stories--three bedrooms upstairs and room for three offices downstairs.  The important part is the location.  They can start their law office and they'll have a place to stay when they're in SL without paying for a hotel.  Silvia says leave it to her--she'll find the best place in town.  After the call, Silvia marvels "Me living in Santa Lucia?  Whodathunkit?!"

Aldonza signs the paperwork for the damages to the apartment.  Cris wants to put up a part of the money, but Aldonza won't let him, since it happened before they got married.  Plus, as she reminds him, "the person who's responsible" is going to pay.  Cris starts talking about how if his dad did it, he'll make sure…but Aldonza cuts him off and reminds him that they already talked about it and they're not going to let this get in the way of their relationship.  Cris agrees, but says he can't help but be angry about what Sev did.  Renato asks her, in front of Cris, whether now that they're married…pause for "Yay we're married" snog, for which Cris actually smiles finally…are the two of them still going to be partners.  Aldonza says "yes" unless he doesn't want to.  Cris just looks confused.  Aldonza explains that once they get his father's animals off the land, she and Renato are going to be partners in the farming business.  "Why him?"  Well, because he wanted to invest and she needed a partner, so….  Aldonza doesn't think their marriage is a reason to change the plans, right?  Cris agrees.  Renato takes his leave and says he'll catch up to Aldonza in SL tomorrow or the day after and they can get to work on evicting the poor innocent animals whose only crime has been having Sev for an owner (ok, maybe I'm embellishing a little there).  And as for Cris, he hopes he can trust in his discretion.  The dudes shake, Renato kisses Aldonza goodbye, and he departs.  Cris gazes after him.  I think he's got a crush.  What?  It could happen.  Or perhaps Cris is just admiring how his new wife's former wanna-be suitor is taking this all very well and acting all mature and keeping things friendly and trying to include him rather than going all "Hulk smash!" on his ass.  And hopefully taking notes for future reference.

Pato and Silvia are checking the paper for listings.  Silvia calls about one location that's apparently already rented, but there's another one she found online that she thinks is going to be great.  Pato is smiling at her in astonishment.  He can't believe she's so thrilled to start a law office in SL of all places.  She really is, though.  She thinks it's a great opportunity for her and Renato to…well, and Pato too, of course….  Pato laughs that she's treating him like a third wheel.  He warns her not to get her hopes up with Renato, but he understands that she can't help it.

Aldonza texts Adelina to tell her she's coming home today.  And it seems like she and Cris made up.  Adelina doesn't see how they'll put off a wedding in that town.  Padre J tells her not to fuss and they can figure it out when they get back.  Adelina's worried, though, about how Sev and Cande are going to react.  "Well, Cris will know how to defend her."  Ay Padre…I'm with Adelina "From your lips to God's ears!"  Padre J goes off to church to see how things are doing, but today is apparently Saturday and he doesn't have the doctor's permission yet.  Padre J fusses about doctors and leaves anyway.

Back at the café in the DF, Aldonza is telling Cris not to be jealous, but Cris says it's a lot for him to take in at once.  He can understands a lot of it, but he can't believe she hasn't told him about Mis Planes…only the parts that she thinks it's convenient for him to know.  Hey, buddy, get in line behind the rest of us who have been begging for info on Mis Planes!  Well, ok, maybe a few people might be willing to let you cut the line.  He thinks this accusation about his father and the fire is maybe going too far…and he thinks Renato is filling her head with ideas…and he doesn't like the "partnership" thing….  Aldonza starts to fume and Cris says fine, she can do what she wants.  He mocks her pose and facial expression and calls a truce.  Aldonza accuses him of taking advantage of her being totally gaga over him.  Cris says he might be jealous, he might not agree with her business stuff, but neither his parents nor her star lawyer are going to keep him from luuuuuuuurving her the way he luuuuuuurves her.  Married snog!

Val puts her face on while Pru cries her face off.  Val says she told Humberto that Lardo is after HER, not her mother.  Pru is grateful, but it didn't do any good…he abandoned her anyway.  Val thinks Pru is using the wrong strategy.  And also her comments aren't helpful.  She warns Pru to quit pissing her off, because she's at her boiling point (como agua para chocolate) just thinking that Cris is off with Aldonza!  But they have to come back sometime, and when they do, she'll make Aldonza pay…and Pru can shut it with her "what if they don't come back business" because she's making Val feel worse.  Just shut it already!  No…wait…Val has an idea that will make this homecoming unforgettable, and Pru is going to help her pull it off.

On the bus back home, Cris is back to pouting while Aldonza teases him about being jealous.  I don't even listen to them.  It's going to end in an apology and more snogging and he'll be grumpy again five minutes later.  "Next time I say something stupid, just remind me that you're right, ok?"  (Um, Cris…you just did.)  Aldonza brings up their imminent arrival at SL.  Cris suggests filling her aunt and uncle in and having them help plan the church wedding.  As for his parents…he'd rather wait until his dad is back home so they can tell them both at once.  Good plan, kid…better to get all the insults over with at once.  Aldonza asks about the woman who was with his dad.  Not that she knows her, but she thinks Lola hangs out with her…she thinks it's a strange friendship, though.  Cris has no opinion.

In the hallway, which I assume is neutral territory.  Pru looks wounded, but Humberto is apologetic.  Pru says she'll consider his apology. "Well, what about the time YOU accused ME of having an affair with Aldonza?  I don't remember you apologizing for that.  And you and Valeria have been horrible to Emmanuel…."  Pru asks why he's asking forgiveness if he's determined to keep fighting.

Over coffee and CAKE!  Mari apologizes to Em. Her dad won't give him a loan and he thinks it's a crazy plan.  Em takes it well. She'd better offer him that cake, though.  It's the least she can do.  Look at it, just sitting there…nobody's eating it…and it's so pretty…would somebody please eat the cake!  Oh, well, instead, Mari offers him her life savings.  Em, thankfully, refuses, but Mari won't take the check back.  She says he'll pay her back when he's a big-time rider.  Em agrees he'll accept it as a loan and pay it back with interest and Mari declares them partners.  They snog.  I'm thinking cake would have been a better option.

Aldonza is lost in thought, worrying about what they're about to confront.  Cris says nothing can happen if they're together.  Aldonza is worried about how everyone is going to react when they find out she and Cris are married.  "So, where are we going to live?"  Cris proposes renting a house, but Aldonza wants to live at El Santuario.  Cris would rather they start somewhere fresh, but Aldonza wheedles and Cris agrees.  As long as he's with her, it's all good.  Oh, hold on to that feeling, Cris.  "Hey, when your parents find out we're going to live [on the property] they've always wanted, they're going to die!"  Cris jokes that they'll need lots of miel con limon (honey and lemon) because they'll go hoarse from the shouting.

Lola is telling Dominga that she had a hard time sleeping.  She kept thinking about Emmanuel's parents and how he doesn't know who they are, the way she used to obsess about her parents.  The other maid walks in with a letter for Lola from Simoneta.  Dominga thought they weren't hanging out anymore.  "Well, we're not, but maybe she wanted to write to tell me goodbye or to tell me something she couldn't say the last time we saw each other."  Dominga snatches it away from her and says there's no reason to read it, it's nothing important!  She rips up the letter and throws it away.  She tries to shove Lola out the door, but Lola won't go.  "Tell me what you have against Simoneta!"  Dominga cries and sinks into a chair, asking Lola to forgive her…"I lied to you.  It's not true that your mother is dead.  She's alive, and her name is Viviana…or I guess I should say, Simoneta.  Simoneta Saavedra."

I'm glad Cris quit looking cranky! But they're going to have to work out a better arrangement than him constantly saying "Yes, dear."...otherwise this whole "marriage" thing isn't going to work.

Greetings Diva and thank you so much for the highly enjoyable recap! I have just one question: does Chris' towel look like Egyptian cotton or Peruvian cotton? Could you rewind and maybe zooom in? I'd do it but don't have DVR.

Well plenty of forward motion tonight: Chris & Ald head home as a married couple; Pru dumps Tomas (who really does look sad, but maybe because he cut back on the eyeliner); E-Man gets his horse money; Lola finds out that her mama is alive!

More later, thanks again Diva!

Diva, you are a master. You don't know how much I needed you're amazing recap. I am having a crazy time of it and you totally made me laugh and relax for the first time in like two days.

I can't believe Cande still literally covers her ears and talks oveer people when she doesn't want to hear what they have to say. Wow.

Glad Cris is staying so evenly keeled for the time being, but I'm with you that him just giving in to Donnie is different from them handling things as a couple. For example, I would've been more comfortable with the living situation convo if she had just said the Sant is already paid for and it's where she's going to have the farm so it's the most practical choice, rather than it's her family's land etc. His family has land too and he's right, the point is to start fresh and build something new together. And didn't she just say she didn't want secrets? Why didn't she tell him Sim is Sev's lover? And how exactly is he supposed to stay out of her vengeance? It's 90% of what she talks about. They're going to have some very quiet or gag-inducing "IloveyouIloveyoumore" focused meals.

ITA with you on the towel question. We should all recheck. Was it white? Off white? Eggshell? I"m sure these details are key, so I'll just go make sure...

Thank you Diva, don't get any better than

"wayward-but-not-as-far-away-as-advertised son"

"Val puts her face on while Pru cries her face off"

"would somebody please eat the cake"

Not sure Cris's breaking point with Cray Cray Aldonza, she doesn't tell him anything and expects him to eat it and shut up. The marriage partnership should take precedence over her partnership with the guy that wants her as his wife (Thanks to Renato for putting the partnership out there because now Cris has entered a partnership with his wife's former suitor without being consulted). This is the same girl that saw Val kiss Cris and she goes crying and screaming to the DF and locks herself in Renato's daddy's house. Can't even imagine what she'd pull if she was blindsided like that.

Aldonza - I ain't walking a mile in anybody's shoes

Cris - along for the ride

Renato - and she'll always have a place to stay after a fight

Mari - bet it all on a horse and Emmanuel of course

Dominga - control freak

Lola - tell me it ain't Severiano's Slut?

Silvia - threes company

Poker thug - Mr. Lagos can Abelardo come out to pay

Thank you! You really took one for the team describing that towel. Glad we had you in the case.

I liked the "Hulk smash" line.

Love it, Kat! I especially appreciate your towel research.

I think Cris took learning all this stuff in a short period of time very well. I also like how he used humor to break Al out of her cranky mood. She bats her eyes and uses her kisses. He gets her to smile. They've learned how to argue and come out of it not being angry. Of course, Cris is also the one giving in all the time. We'll have to see how Aldonza reacts to something that's really important to Cris that she may not agree with. Will she be flexible?

Since Cris already realized that Sim is Sever's lover, I don't think Al felt the need to mention she knew that weeks ago. But she shared the important unknown info that Lola has befriended the woman and Dominga doesn't approve for some reason...soon to be revealed to all.

Oh my stars, this was wonderful Diva. Had to park the coffee wonderful. Your description of the Allie/Cris phone scene was priceless. (Exactly how many times did you rewind that scene....Hmmmmm?)

On the surface seemed like such a benign episode, but it really had a lot of forward movement, some little, some pretty major.

Color me gobsmacked that the truth of Lola's mamita is out there now. The irony of her concern about E-man and then learning she's the one to get a big reveal....ouch! And "pardone" Dominga? I don't see her forgiving Dom and Mel and bet she goes running to Sim from the sense of betrayal. Won't Sev be happy?

Ok, I'm going to say this. There is nothing coming out of Cris' mouth right now that gives me the warm and fuzzies with these two..short term anyway. He is basking in the glow of winning the girl and the whammy of learning she went through something horrid, so he's placating and agreeing, but really underneath he's crazy jealous, not necessarily buying into the idea his Dad is a crook and does't even like the idea of living on the location of Allie's MisPlans complete with hunkie lawyer friend in tow.

I thought Ren handled things amazingly well and I like the way he made sure Cris was aware of everything and ok with it. More than I can say Allie has done...another issue. But he heads to SL and hangs up the shingle with Pato and Sylvia, I don't think Cris is going to like him around all the time. TN law, the galan has to be a jealousy freak.

So...I sort of saw a different Mari last night? I think she did this from sincerity for E-man. Sure it started out as a pissing match with Lola, but it didn't come off like she was playing him. I'm sure I'll be proved wrong soon. And let's face it, E-man looked like he was definitely taking Joaquin's advice with Love the one you're with. He was totally into that macking.

The proverbial S*** is hitting the fan tonight. That wind up from Cande is for thinking Cris was just hanging with Allie--wait till she learns he put a ring on it. (Close up when Val finds out). Get the popcorn ready!

Gracias, Kat. Excellent. My favorite line was Good plan, kid…better to get all the insults over with at once. . Cristobal is learning a little about anger management here... his parents', that is.

In view of how Simoneta entered the restaurant with Sev, three would be no mistaking their relationship. Neither Cristobal nor Aldonza is naive enough to believe otherwise, especially since Cris knows his parents have had separate bedrooms for years.

Will he and Aldonza have separate bedrooms until Sev takes his dirt nap? Enquiring minds want to know.

The other issue about Simoneta was a time bomb that just exploded. Who wants to bet that Candela will react exactly like Prudencia and demand that Lola get out and stay out?

If it comes to that Lola can always go to Aldonza. Emmanuel should end up there, too. Cris should try to get possession of that lovely horse.

Thank you for the recap and the snark, Kat!

Your line that had me almost fall out of my chair was --- 'Mr. 5ft remarks, "Here comes the macho dick outburst."'
because at first, I thought he was talking about a body part behind that towel. And then I figured out he meant Cris. Or maybe not.

The towel scene was not satisfying. Less fluff---more buff, please. 'nuff said.

Oy, what an episode. Those two crazy kidz don't even know where they'll live before they married! That's mature planning for ya.

Aldonza knows Simoneta is Sev's amante, so did she ask Cris to learn if he knew?

Yes, when Cande finds out, the dookey will hit the fan.

I hope Lola retrieves that letter and can tape it back together. Dominga will be in the doghouse, for sure.

When Al asked Cris if he knew who the woman was, he said yeah, she's my father's lover. So yes, he knows.

Thanks, Diva! Wonderful, detailed, FUN!
Adelina says there IS no other man for her, and there never will be. Sounds like a sure sign of definitely ending up with someone like. . uh. . .Jock? What would they do to make THAT happen. Well, it's too early, but she said that with too much conviction for the opposite not to become true.

His eyeballs sweat. Hee Hee!

I wish she'd started with fingerprints and containers of gasoline and told him THE COPS suspect Lardo.

Just love the whole danged paragraph, the sentiments expressed and the advice to Cris! Wonderful! I too wondered at that lingering look he sent after Renato. How many friends does Cris have, besides E=man? Like, NONE! I think Cris truly admires Renato's "manner of being" and this is why he continued to pout on the bus: he realizes Renato is intelligent, well-heeled and above all, a damned decent bloke! Or, Un Tipazo! He's got good reason to be feel jealous and even the tug toward bro-maaaaance!

Val puts her face on while Pru cries her face off. ^_^

Over coffee and CAKE! Love the cake rant! I also loved the lusting over the toweled Cris that you had to verify so many times. I'm going to have to go back and watch both scenes!

Gotta run! Thank you, Diva! Maaarvy!!!

I think Cris gets a get out of the dog house card the first time he really shows his jealously. To have a guy his wife is partners with, secrets between them, around all the time, taking his money while refusing her husbands and the guy wants her for his own is bumping up against a boundary. No, they weren't lovers but the only thing separates Cris from Renato is a hastily drawn piece of paper and a few kisses. Aldonza got her Cris and gets a Renato too.

Lola won't, but she needs to take an assessment of what her mother is and thank her grandparents for giving her a stable life. Not one like Aldonza's.

Mari did seem sincere and putting her money where her mouth is. We applaud hot Renato for opening his checking account for Aldonza, (and right under the nose of her husband). I'm giving Mari some love but if she hurts Emmanuel I'll go apeshit on her.

Good morning, 5ft. I just really enjoyed your take on things.

Cris is behaving himself for the present. I really liked how he didn't force the sex issue, and instead cuddled with Aldonza on their wedding night.

With the partnership of Aldonza and Renato coming to light, I think Cris is just beginning to understand that there is a whole lot about his new wife that he never knew about. Of course, this happens with all newly married couples to some extent, but rarely are the hurdles as large as Aldonza's.

I don't understand at this point how the horse is going to work into the plot, but I assume that somehow Em will burst out of the constraints that have been imposed on him by others, literally riding on a white horse.

From the avances, I hope that slap from his mother will motivate Cris to immediately move to Aldonza's place, and put both his cheating father and his conniving mother on probation and at arm's length.

Oh, I meant to add that I always appreciate hard research, so your attention to detail regarding the towel was good, and frankly, until you brought it up, I hadn't even notice it.

Hope he steals it as a memento of their wedding, and wears it again on their 50th anniversary.

Tofie, I totally agree about Lola's situation. She should be grateful to her abuelos for giving her the kind of stable life Aldonza didn't have. At least she didn't need to live down having a whore for a mother and she is a fairly strong and confident young woman.

They were blindsided when Simoneta showed up, but they should have told Lola the truth. They could have made the comparison you did and apologized for withholding the information for so long. However, she isn't the type to hold grudges forever when she faces the fact that they genuinely love her and that withholding this information was not done with malice.

Cristobal and Emmanuel are in completely different situations.

Emmanuel is the one who will suffer the most when he learns the truth. Humberto could have been a better father to him, but since he was stuck between a rock and a hard place, he probably copped out by working as long hours as he could handle without making any more mistakes like the one in his previous town. Cristobal and Aldonza will likely both welcome him as a brother and help him with the career he wants. The big question is whether that will be enough to cushion the blow of learning that he was sired by Satan.

Cristobal is already seeing the dark sides of both his parents. The worst of that will be the revelation that Satanic Sev raped Aldonza. That will be nothing short of the eruption of Mt Aetna in 79 AD.

Still wondering how Candela will react to that one when she stops denying it happened.

Kat, great recap and you all of the towel research was above and beyond, thank you.

David, I don't think the towel will look the same 50 years from now.

The comments have covered just about everything. But one question, what is MalVal's plan and where does she shop in SL? I was unaware that little towns stock black leather Ho clothing. Does Frederick's of Hollywood ship to SL?

Rosemary Primera

"David, I don't think the towel will look the same 50 years from now"
Nor will Cris. (Gravity sets in.) LOL

Rosemary, my guess is Val is an internet shopping addict. That's why she's on that tablet--those awful outfits have to come from somewhere.

I for one am ecstatic that we have that hunky, gorgeous stallion front and center for awhile. Oh, and E-man too. I still see that beauty and want to call it Snowball after the horse in Cuando. No one, and I mean NO ONE better harm one hair on that horses' body.

Would Sev sabotage the selling to not allow E-Man to have the horse? Gee son, let me screw you over one more time.

Thought here--so if Cris goes all "I'm done with you" to his parent, he has been studying horse breeding ( we are constantly reminded of that with his nose in that book). So would he use Allie's place and set up shop there in competition to dear old dad? Start with E-Man's horse? if they don't think of it, I think it's a good idea anyway.

Reading the comments about Cris still not knowing all about his sperm donor, I can't wrap my head around how he reacts to that. How do you recover from knowing you own father raped your wife--what do you do? And how does he deal with Allie not telling him as time goes on? I'm sure it will all come out roses and pink bows for them somehow at the end...but boy, I just don't know how you ever fully recoup from that. Couple therapy?

Daisynjay

DnJ I too ran through Emmanuel and his brother use their sisters leased property to go into the horse breeding biz and competition against their daddy. Talk about stickin it to ole pappy. But, where does that leave Aldonza's second husband Renato?

Gracias, J! You know, I'm not sure what kind of cotton...is that something I can determine by sight? Maybe someone needs to make a field trip to check it out in person. Any volunteers...? I think Tomas cried off his eyeliner ;)

Gracias, HellaShelle! Well, Cande's klasseh, so she can get away with acting like a 10-year-old. "Why didn't she tell him Sim is Sev's lover?" IKR? At this point everybody knows! I guess the only one who doesn't know her identity or whereabouts is Cande. I'm pretty sure Cris understood what Sev meant in the restaurant, so there's no point not telling him, "Yeah, um, I didn't exactly know who she was, but your dad was visiting her at the hotel in Santa Lucia." I hope this takes the sting out of Sev's threat to Lola. He can hardly trace the info back to its source when EVERYONE KNOWS!

Gracias, tofie! I'm waiting for him to realize that having the opposite of his parents' marriage doesn't mean being hyper-agreeable and bowing to all his wife's wishes. That's just dysfunctional in the opposite direction. I like your Mari quote and it also makes me shudder...stupid, stupid, stupid move! Yeah, I think Em can win, but she's going to be holding that "I gave you your start" over his head long after he's paid it all back. That horse had better be worth it!

Gracias, Sara! Well, it's a dirty (or squeaky clean) job, but somebody's gotta do it. I'm with you on the horse...and the Em/Solitario partnership is already way stronger than almost any other relationship on the show. Dominga and Mel seem pretty solid...and I don't doubt Padre J's committment to the Church. But the rest of the humans? Hmmmm....

Gracias, Vivi! "We'll have to see how Aldonza reacts to something that's really important to Cris that she may not agree with." There are things that are important to Cris that aren't Aldonza? I know, I know...that was bad...I couldn't help it!

Gracias, Daisynjay! If you think last night's rewinding was epic! I hope the rewind button is ready for round 2 tonight, 'cause the looks on those harpies faces are gonna be priceless! I agree, I'm not reassured by Cris' attitude, but it makes a change from the usual galan chest-thumping trying to outdo the other guy by being more aggressive...the two of them will kill each other with kindness instead! Only Renato seems more sincere. I was surprised there was no mention of the truck.

Gracias, Urban Anthropologist! Yeah, Cris and Em are horsemen, not farmers. Get the horse, go into the horse biz, and stick it to Sev!

Gracias, doris! He was taking out the trash and glanced over and got that quip out on his way out the door. It was too good not to include. Maybe there are some outtakes online...I'm sure that towel couldn't have stayed perfectly in place for every take....

Gracias, Lila! I agree, I'm waiting for news that Flavia barely made it one town over before being hit by a bus and Ray doesn't know his home address. I'm not saying I *want* that to happen, but they've been planting the seeds of "don't worry, we'll get rid of horrible Flavia" for a while now. Cris needs friends. Real friends. And now that Renato and Pato are going to be in town a lot more, maybe the four of them can hang out.

Gracias, David! "I assume that somehow Em will burst out of the constraints that have been imposed on him by others, literally riding on a white horse." I love that mental image. From your lips to the writers' ears!

Gracias, Rosemary Primera! That's a good question...and I think FoH does ship internationally :D Though I bet there's a branch in DF as well.

David, Rosemary, and doris...I think the "correct" answer to the towel-in-50-years scenario is "Oh, honey, even in fifty years, you'll always look the same to me."

"But, where does that leave Aldonza's second husband Renato?" Lol, tofie...no worries, they'll always need a lawyer. Yeah, Cris didn't know what the hell he was getting himself into.

Daisynjay, "I just don't know how you ever fully recoup from that. Couple therapy?" Lots and lots of it. Though, I'm betting that's not what we'll get.

But, where does that leave Aldonza's second husband Renato?

Too funny tofie--you know thinking about that whole scene at the coffee house with those three, it was like Allie was all she wuvvvvsss Cris, but for all other issues, business planbs, legal issues and the person to really cop to on her "revenge", it's Renato. I get having a bestie friend who is a male, I have been that way all my life, but not someone who is obviously in love me and, i this case, the hubby knows it. Renato may be all happy for them and being cool to keep being there for Allie, but that a happy marriage does not make.

And if Daddy and Mumsy cut off Cris, ah, well the "money" in the partnership will be Renatos. Awkward much?

Daisynjay

Yea, Daisy, ITA. I'm a big believer in your partner being one of your best friends, and that's what I'm waiting for with these two. They have the potential to be another AB couple for me, but it all depends on how they grow in the next 60+ caps and they have a tendency to break rather than bend.

I'm all for E going on the horse circuit, but where is he going to put the horse and how is he going to feed it and care for it? This is assuming he gets it since Sev and Cande are not likely to listen to Cris for several weeks.

Val and Cande have been possibly the least effective villains I've seen, so I'm not too worried about Val at this point. Once she finds out that Cris and Aldie are married, she'll up her game, but so far it's all been kid stuff: "kiss her guy in front of her! start a rumor in the caf! Make him jealous!" I feel like I'm watching some televised version of TeenBeat or something.

OT: I want to ask who everyone's fave TN couples have been and why, but I don't want to totally throw off the discussion, so feel free to ignore my question.

My favorite couples are:
---Emiliano/Francisco & Rosario from La Hija Del Mariachi -and -
--- Juan del Diablo & Monica from Corazon Salvaje '93

I'm on my iPad so it's difficult to type in my reasons, but those who have seen these telenovelas will understand.

Lety and Fer in La Fea. For sentimental reasons. First full Mexican novela, screen-searing chemistry, stunning Galan!

<3 Lety and Fer 4-Eva! <3

Yeah, I don't see Renato paying Cris's way if/when his parents cut him off. Out on his ass he goes.

Cris gotta live with his wife's business partner/bestie that wants nothing more than for their relationship to fail on its own. All he has to do is orbit cause Aldonza got her a bench and he's staying. Make one mistake Cris and you'll be replaced so fast it will make your head spin. Can't be comfortable knowing this so no wonder he's rolling over now but he'll get tired of it real quick (hope he does). You can bet had Cris put his foot down she would have cut him loose not Renato. That tells me she has little respect for Cris, may love him, but doesn't respect him.

I feel like there's some suspense around Renato, though. Like he could go either way--keep being all reasonable and mature and cut his losses and *try* not to have a thing for a married woman...or he could go nuts. Actually, same with Cris--he could keep his calm demeanor and take all the impending fireworks well or he could flip out and go "dark" when he finally finds out the truth. They're keeping it ambiguous.

Agree Kat. I wonder how Renato would react if she did respect her husband and cut off a man that is obviously in love with her. He might go dark or Cris may when the idiot finally admits to himself his wife wants both he and Renato. Right now she is working both guys.

I don't see a point in cutting him off...it's like breaking up with someone and having them say "Uh...when were we together?"

If Aldonza knew of Renato's night of weeping after the marriage perhaps she'd realize, while she doesn't think they were ever together, Renato had a different take. She's not clueless for he has told her multiple times he is in love with her and not puppy love but lets marry and have babies love.

I've had my eye on Silvia in case she should go dark, wondered if Cris would/could and Val already did so why not Renato?

Just wait till Renato finds out Cris & Aldonza aren't sleeping together, that will lift his spirits.

Val didn't go...sh'e been since birth!

On the one hand, the crying jag and the drinking--NOT a good sign! But then he kept that from her, pulled it together, and behaved like a human, so he's at least got some self-control. What would it take to tip him over the edge? I just don't know, but I know there's something...only they've given him so many opportunities, and if he's withstood them all so far that means if it happens it's both going to take something huge and it's going to be an epic turn to the dark side.

I'm going to be pissed if they go there, but even more pissed if it's triggered by nothing in particular.

Hellashelle
I haven't watched very many TNs, but some favorite couples of mine are (in no particular order)

Renata and Chava (Cachito de cielo)
Pedro Fernandez, despite not being "hot" is incredibly charming to me. Maite was actually NOT playing a poor orphan. She was a young professional trying to build a career WITHOUT using her father's clout.

Leonora and José Carlos (Cuna de lobos
Can't even explain why. I love Gonzalo Vega.

Willy and Lucia (Amorcito Corazon)
Someone give Daniel Arenas a comedic role again...PLEASE.

....but even more pissed if it's triggered by nothing in particular.

I love TNs. I'm addicted and I will never quit, but I've given up expecting well-thought out writing. So if Ren goes dark, it will be for no real reason.

Wouldn't it be refreshing to just not have to totally destroy the other galan in heat over the heroine just because he doesn't win the girl? Honestly, they usually either go dark or get killed. Once in a blue moon they hook them up with some random woman we all say "NO, really? over because the chemistry is zilch.

I would have a real big issue as well, beyond pissed, if after all this Ren goes dark. Go get drunk, understandable, but not dark just over losing her.

HOWEVER: that said...no spoiler, but I could see if HE finds out that Sev is the one who raped Allie and he goes ballistic, goes after the slime and either is killed in the process or goes to jail, sacrificing himself for Allie so she has peace and her true love. I can see it...I would hate it...but I could see it.

Personally, Sylvia doesn't work for me with him either because he made it abundantly clear she didn't do it for him that way. That would be one of those annoying, I'll settle for you story lines I hate so much with secondary characters. If this guy stays true to himself and is there for both Allie and Cris, he deserves something decent. But I don't hold out hope when TN law states the leads have to wind up together somehow and secondary galan/heroines are so much baggage to do whatever with.

Daisynjay

Favorite tn couple: Camila and Daniel from Amor Bravio. I also liked that the woman in love with him (Lisset/Adelina) and the guy in love Camila (Rene/Raymundo) remained good people, fell in love with each other, AND had chemistry.

". . . but I could see if HE finds out that Sev is the one who raped Allie and he goes ballistic. . . "
Gosh, Daisynjay, that is a completely plausible idea.

What I would really like would be for Renato to pretend to come on to Valeria. Think about it; he's...

-- attractive
-- a lawyer with a doctor for a father
-- rich
-- orfanato de madre, so no suegra to deal with
-- he was hot for Aldonza.

I know he's too honorable to do it, but could you imagine him getting the goods on her and then dropping her on her skanky butt?

Urban - my wicked self would rather see Val pregnant and married to Abelardo as her just punishment. ;-)

Love it, but my gut says she took precautions possibly by not doing that which causes conception. However, since I think his days are numbered I'd settle for her being pregnant and unwed.

Diva thank you for the recap! I always look forward to your observations!

What I really like about this novela is that while we have bad guys we also have a strong group of good people to battle against them. I hate telenovelas where the good guys don't find out till the last week who the evil people around them are. Renato, Pato, Lola, Irma, Melesio, Dominga, Don Camilo, etc are all a breath of fresh air!

Thanks, Diva, for that excellent and detailed recap. Busy couple of days because it is the end of the semester, so I am late to the party.

Daisynjay...yikes, I was thinking exactly the same thing..Rennie going BSC when he finds out thatvSevered raped his Aldonza. Thus, sparing Chris and Em from murdering their own father. However, I would hate for that to happen to sweet Rennie or that he is killed going after Sev.

My two favorite couples were Luis and Hippolita (Fernando Colunga and Lucero) in Alborada and Mauel and Matilde ( Fernando and Adele Noriego ) from Amor Real. Why???..the chemistry between both couples was hotter than hot.

Eli, LOVE that, too! Clueless good guys and bad guys who sock it to 'em til 30 minutes before the finale sucks hard!

Cande/Cris smack down tonight! Lord, let him leave that house to-night! He has zippo privacy, both mom and dad has slapped him silly(er). . .it's emotional and physical abuse, I tell ya!

Daisynjay, girl, I think you are on to something with Renato being the one figuring out that Sev raped Donnie. He's a smart cookie. I think the penny will drop the moment he finds out she was raped at all! Oh, my!

Lila - Aldonza would not be safe from Sev in Cris' parents' house. Yikes.

Is Renato finishes off Sev for us, we will have to set up a patio table at the prison.

Lol, Urban Anthropologist, I would find it entertaining for Renato to keep Val occupied while a few other things get sorted out, but poor guy! I wouldn't wish it on anyone to have to listen to Val prattle on about nothing for hours.

Gracias, Eli! So true. There are no hidden threats in this one and a solid team of good guys. Plus...horses!

Gracias, susanlynn! I'm just glad you had a minute to drop by. I know it's a busy time of year.

Lila, that's always bothered me, how (I assume) neither of his parents ever laid a hand on Cris and now all of a sudden they're getting physically violent with him...and it barely made him suspicious.

doris, not going to try to bust him out?

Oh, absolutely, Doris! There is NO WAY she can live there! She wouldn't be safe from Cande either! I know there's no way that is even going to be considered because I know Cande will not accept her there. They've been moving along at a nice clip, let's move this forward and have Cris leave hell house tonight!

Loved the discussion on Renato and Cris and Donnie having two husbands! I agree that Cris is being all "yes, dear" because he see's how awesome his competition is!

Diva - no. I don't look good in stripes. And horizontal stripes make me look fat. ;-)

Perhaps Cris could just float the idea of him and Aldonza moving in...juuuuuust to see how fast Cande's head can spin....

Lol, doris, maybe they'll send him to Country Club prison.

Diva, I enjoy your comments as always. Thank you. Am I getting old or what? I was AS interested in the cake I was the assets concealed by the towel. When did that happen.

On a personal note, are you performing in Phoenix over the 4th of July week-end? Will be in Arizona for a little retail therapy and would love to catch one of your performances.

And one more thing, favorite couple, hands down Willie Boy and Lucia.

Again, thanks Diva for a great retelling of the excitement last night on La Sombra.

Gracias, emeraldrose! It was a really yummy looking cake :D So far my performance schedule only goes up to late June, but...life happens, so you never know :D
