La Sombra del Pasado, Capitulo 66, 05-20-2015.

Recap courtesy of HellaShelle

Here’s a quick and dirty recap, so ppl can talk. I’ll try to submit a clean, more detailed one later.

A furious Candela tells Simoneta to have Sev call her when he gets back. Sim has the nerve to look confused when Cande hangs up on her, even though she pretty much just told the woman that she’s her husband’s mistress.

Renato wants Silvia to know that he wants her to be a partner in the business, not just an employee, but if their past will be a problem, she should say so now. She’s kind of doubtful about the whole plan. It sounds good, but unnecessarily complicated what with basing themselves in SL rather than DF just Because of Aldonza! She tells Renato he’s not in love, he’s obsessed. Renato says he’s holding on to his slim hope regardless and he doesn’t want to change.

The police arrest Cris after Lardo’s mass on suspicion of homicide. Aldonza calls Renato, who comes running. The police question Cris, and between the two of them they cover all of Caray’s points about the case. They haven’t exactly arrested him for the murder, but he’s the only suspect, so they’re holding him. Renato would take the case, but the Mendoza’s would have to let him because they still have that ongoing case against Sev.

Mel and Dom tell Cande that Cris has been arrested. When looking for the lawyer’s number, Cande sees the broken drawer and remembers Lardo’s nervous behavior. She rushes to the precinct, raises hell, and tells the cops Lardo stole Sev’s gun, but surprisingly all of the family’s influence means nothing. PJ takes her outside to calm her down, and in her frustration she mentions the boy Sev had with Rob. She tries to backtrack, saying she just misspoke, but the wheels of PJ’s mind are turning. He speaks to Emmaniel later, who tells him about his dream of buying the horse, but with all that’s going down with Uriel and Mari and Cris right now, he’s not sure what will happen with that. He also mentions that he’s still trying to find his parents, and Hum’s not giving him anything to go on. PJ looks like he might be making a connection…

Silvia wants the candy house to be a sign (presumably of good things to come between her and Ren). She fills Pato in on the situation with Cris and cries on his shoulder because Ren doesn’t see that she’s right there in front of him, loving him. She thinks Aldonza’s using him and it’s not fair.

The police tell Uriel that they’ve arrested Cris. Uriel rushes to the precinct, out for blood, but since he can’t beat Cris to death or even see him, he leaves, just as furious. Later, at home, Irma is an amazing voice of reason. She tells Uriel that they can’t turn Lardo into a saint just because he died. He ran with a bad crowd; a lot of people might have had it out for him. She reminds him that “some guy” came to the house just before Lardo was shot, looking for Lardo to pay his debts. Plus, there was the issue of the fire in DF. She says they have to tell the police what they know, without being blinded by their pain and love. She is remarkably calm. Uriel takes her advice and returns to the precinct to tell the cops what they know.

Adelina gives Lola a wake up call. Lola knows the reasons why they lied, but she doesn’t care, she’s still pissed. Adelina reminds her that she’s her grandparents’ reason for living and even if they lied, they love her. Unlike with her situation, some things, like Lardo’s death, can’t be fixed.

When she can finally see him, Aldonza and Cris share many kisses and hugs. Cris is calm because he knows he’s innocent, but Aldonza is freaking out a little because this is serious and she wants him out NOW. She gives him her scapular.

Sim tells Sev that she answered the phone because she was worried about him and thought someone might be calling with news. He surprisingly doesn’t kill her because when Cande calls, she only tells him about Cris and they’re both way to preoccupied with that to worry about anything else. (Off camera, he gives Cande the lawyer’s number. On camera, she calls the lawyer – clearly neither Sev nor Cande has even considered the absurd idea of letting Ren take this case.) Later, Sev calls Adriano, wanting to know how the hell his son got taken in for this, but Adriano doesn’t know. Sev tells him to stay out of SL and he’ll deposit his payment into his account (Adriano would prefer cash and you would think Sev would too, so that there’s less of a paper trail, but whatever). As he and Sim pack to return to SL, Sim repeats that she didn’t plan to answer the phone, but she was worried blah blah blah. Sev doesn’t care; he’s worried about his son.

Thank You HellaShelle!

Thank you, HellaShelle! This is what you call quick and dirty? I thought you did a great job of giving us everything in a way that didn't jump around like the episode did, plus capturing a lot of my own QTH reactions!

I think I got the biggest laugh out of this moment: "She rushes to the precinct, raises hell, and tells the cops Lardo stole Sev’s gun, but surprisingly all of the family’s influence means nothing." Sev wears the influence pants in the family. I kinda hate that on general principle...because it's sexist and because it's Sev. But watching Cande's eyes nearly fall out of her head ...yeah, I get a kick out of it when "Don't you know who I ammmm!!!!!?" doesn't work for snobs.

I have to go with Diva on this one. This is a full recap. All the important points are covered and I thank you for them. I was distracted last night and didn't pay close attention.

I got a laugh out of your line about the Caray Nation:

"...and between the two of them they cover all of Caray’s points about the case."

Yup. The law offices of Caray and Caray were on the case and one step ahead of the Dream Team.

Watching the cops ignore Cande's position in SL was the best part of the evening.

Honestly, I was kind of surprised that Cande had that slip about the baby BOY. Was it really a slip? Or does she deep down want to stick it to Sev?

Thanks again for covering a jumpy and (for me) a slightly dull episode.

Thanks Hellashelle! This recap is perfect just the way it is. But if you want to go back and add more details, I'd love that too.

Cande's baby boy slip was huge! It will not take long now for Padre to realize Eman is the missing baby. Woohoo!

Also loved the police not giving a damn who Cande is, and Adelina laying into Lola and calling her out.

One point that also answered one of our questions, the police chief told Cris that the bullet in Lardo was from the gun found on the scene. So yes, gloved Adriano picked up the gun and shot Lardo with it.

I think it's both. She does want to stick it to Sev--she's having a lousy day, her son got arrested for murder, husband won't answer his phone, his mistress didn't keep to her proper place, the cops won't do what she wants, she can't even find the number for the damn lawyer--and it knocked out her usual defenses for a second.

And how awesome that Padre J was there to hear it! And that she didn't tell him anywhere near the church!

this is great hellashelle!

Several beanie tightenings last night, nothing major.

Cande mentions a boy and right after the origins of Emmanuel conversation. Talk about served up on a platter. Come on PJ.

Renato running to the Police Chief and with no evidence makes the same type of accusation against Severiano, Aldonza would.

Severiano insisting cash for murder a non starter

Despite all of Adriano's whining about how he did what he was asked, I can't figure out what the hell his original plan was. OK, yes, "kill Lardo" but he didn't know Lardo would be passing by that bridge or have a gun on him, so...what the he was the original "plan" that went wrong and was going to result in there being a dead Lardo but no body to examine? All the excuses he keeps making aren't shedding any light on this. Incompetence, or a flaw in the writing?

Tofie- The police chief scoffed when Ren brought up Sever as having some hand in Lardo's demise. But his ears perked up later when cool headed Uriel said the same thing. That's when the wheels started turning in his head.

Maybe Adriano planned to drag Lardo far away somewhere with the the help of his two buddies and beat him to death and dump the body over a cliff somewhere. Or maybe he did have his own gun too. In any case, he wasn't expecting his buddies to freak out and decide to get the hell out rather than follow through with the rest of the plan to get rid of the body. The other thing neither he nor Sever planned was for the murder weapon to lead directly to Sever.

Agree Vivi and I thought Renato's start to the conversation was working until he went and blamed Severiano directly and that was off putting. Uriel's information is helpful but only points to another unknown person or persons with motive yet does not absolve Cris. We'll see what type of questions the chief has for Severiano.

I was very happy with Irma last night. She is a grieving mother, but she knows her child. I was glad she convinced Uriel to see how important it was to tell the police about Lardo's dealings in the seedy underworld.

Renato's rationale for pointing the finger at Sev was disappointingly flimsy. I feel like he could have done a much better job at drawing a straight line from Lardo to Sev, but things like having dropped the charges (still fuming about that one!) didn't help.

Granted, the cop's rationale for arresting Cris isn't much better. He had several people standing there who said "So? We all fought with Lardo, too." and he hasn't bothered to talk to any of them. Nor did he do more than ask Cande about the damn gun...how about asking when was the last time SHE saw her husband's employee or checking out that desk.

Beanie. Tightening.

Hey, I like down and dirty HellaShelle! This was perfect.

Cande keeps having her eye popping moments, she's going to stay that way. And that "slip"...I perked up with that immediately ( was sort of bored prior). Now Padre, c'mon, put your Scooby skills together! But I have to say, at the same time, I worry if he puts it all together, what are the repercussions. I worry more for E-man. I think he would be devastated to know Sev was his father all that time and treated him like crap.

Irma was my hero last night. Wow, did not expect her of all people to be the voice of reason. She had tried before to always cover for that kid. Maybe something in her realized that may be what led to his demise...they just didn't really deal with his behavior and now it was too late. Might as well face the facts.

I don't know about anyone else, but can we just get rid of Flavia already and get that little guy back to his father. She's annoying, so is whiney Adriano.

So I want Sev to be treated just like Cande was--we don't care who you are. We have an investigation. I do always get a kick out of TN's with the "your guilty until proven innocent, so sit in jail until we figure things out" scenes. TN law--need to use a jail scene at some point. Those sets are nice and cheap, need to be put to use for budget purposes.

Did Pru actually get a taste of how deeply screwed up her daughter was last night? Yeah--and who was her influence. Hmmmmm?

Daisynjay

Daisynjay, I thought the jail cells and the interior of the police office itself looked really familiar. I was getting a "hospital" vibe when Cande was in the hallway on her cell phone. Or maybe they've used that same shade of green somewhere else.

Thanks so much , hellashelle. I missed this episode. While the Chris was being arrested and Candy was freaking out, I was at preschool graduation listening to a rousing rendition of ''Little Bunny foo foo .''

Lol, susanlynn, I'm going to have that song in my head all day now :D

Hmmm...how many of these characters would I like to pick up and bop on the head? Bopping is too good for several of them!

Daisynjay- Mexico IS a guilty until proven innocent country, and it is true that you have 72 hours to make bail or prove they have no reason to detain you until they send you to jail to await trail. But I'm sure tns take ALL kinds of liberties with that and twist it for dramatic effect.

Thank you, Hellashelle! Aw shoot! At work, can't play on the patio! Just want to thank you ad I look forward to recap and comments after work!

Love Cande's slip re the BABY BOY! Emanuel coming to talk to Padre J right after that is the sure sign Eman is the love child!

We were right on re the idiocy of arresting Cris!

We were right on re the dynamics of Silvia and Ren and Donnie. Silvia is right, Ren IS obsessed!

Ren is anvil whispering saying he'd rather die in the attempt to win Ren than lose her without trying!

Loved Adelina shaking that silly, selfish Lola!

Okay. Later! Thanks, Hella!

Lila

Hi, HellaShelle. I loved your recap whether you think it was too short or not. Thanks.

I agree with Silvia that Aldonza is using Ren.

I wish Cande would have screeched "HE IS MY SON, AND I WANT TO SEE HIM NOW," and had the cops reply, "But ma'am, he's with his wife.

David

Now that Aldonza is married, she needs to check herself or she will be using Renato, however, he is all too willing to be used and think when/if she draws new boundaries he'll be the one to cross.

Kinda scratching my head with Renato's request Silvia be his business partner too. I get law office partners but does this extend to his partnership with Aldonza? What are the terms of that partnership and can Renato just bring in another partner without consulting Aldonza? Cris isn't a partner though married to Aldonza.

Lila- "anvil whispering" Hahahaha! Too funny.

David- I would have loved to see the cops tell Cande about Cris's wife!

tofie- I'm just sort of assuming Ren is business partners with Silvia. They can each bring in their own cases (example: Silvia is helping Joaquin and Ren has nothing to do with that), but they don't have to work together on all the cases.

Silvia is only a partner in the law firm, along with Pato. Not in the farm business.

I was surprised to hear Renato say that they really would need to be going back and forth to the DF because in addition to the clients they're starting to get in SL, some of his DF clients from the old firm have kept him on. I didn't think that sort of thing was allowed. Beanie moment?

Thank you Vivi. That makes total sense for them to be partners in the law office and bring in their own clients.

This was what I got from the convo between Ren and Silvia: Ren is using part of the inherited money to open a law firm. He wants Pato and Silvia to not only be employees, but actual partners. They will serve clients in DF and SL and will work on building their clientele. They will split their time between DF and SL, linving and working out of the house in SL when there. Conducting their business by phone and email and continuing to live in the current DF homes. Since there are three of them, they will be able to convert needing to appear in meetings and in court in both SL and DF. And yes, the reason he decided to work in/out of SL is because he wants to be close to Al.

Cover not convert.

Diva..lol---I was familiar with ''Little Bunny Foo Foo '' but my favorite song that the little ones sang was ''Tooty Ta.'' You can check it out on YouTube. It was hilarious to see these little ones singing and going through all the motions. The fathers and grandfathers did it with them at their special brunch for kids and dads and poppies.

It's all about billable hours and should he continue work for Aldonza on retainer the other partners should expect he will pay Aldonza's fee to the firm or if he wants to do it for free, in his spare time. That didn't go over well at his last gig especially when he used the services of both Pato and Silvia to do favors.

"It's all about billable hours."

Excellent slogan for some merchandise at the Naughty Melon shop!

Hats off to brave Irma for putting aside her grief and doing what is right . I respect her for being honest to herself about Lardo and not trying to make him a saint in death. I can appreciate Candy riding to her son's defense, but it seems that her power in town is only in the church, not with the local authorities. I noticed that she was the prayer leader at Lardo's funeral. Adelina is not a biological mother, but she certainly has a mother's wisdom and love in the way she raised her niece AL and the advice she gave to Lola.

"All about the billable hours" as the slogan for the Naughty Melon? Do we have a brothel out back?

My mind is in gutter. I'm cracking myself up though. Don't mind me. Move along. These are not the Melon Hos you're looking for.

I know, I thought "Stick that on a t-shirt!" but that sends a very different message! Coffee mug? Luggage tags? Calendars?

then we'll need to consider do we prorate for minutes/seconds or round up to the nearest hour

Sheets and pillowcases?

God, I am really cracking myself up! Self, you are on FIRE.

One hour minimum.

Could there be a "billable hours" pattern for the "Mis Planes" planners?

* I, too, wish Candela had finally found out that Aldonza/Cris are married when she was supposedly making hell about Aldonza being allowed in to see him in the jail cell before her. How could the fact that Al was his wife and that's why she was allowed in not come out during that altercation? I hope we don't have to wait much longer for her (and Sev) to learn of the marriage.

* If the police ever get a subpoena for Sev's phone records, he's going to have big problems since he always uses his regular cell phone to call shady people about shady things. His phone would directly connect him to Adriano, Abelardo and god knows who else. Dude, if you're going to be ordering murders, arson and bloody hell maybe you should get a burner.

* I also agree that Renato was asking Silvia to be a partner in his law firm with Pato, not his Mis Planes with Aldonza. And speaking of those Mis Planes, does Aldonza and Renato not understand that she RENTS the property and that it's a pretty safe bet that they won't allow her to renew her contract after the year is up? It doesn't seem like a great idea to invest a lot of time, energy and money into creating a vegetable garden on land you don't even own and won't have access to eventually. All she'd be doing is possibly creating a lucrative business for the Zapata family and maybe Severiano to profit off of. Huh? Am I missing something here? Why are you creating a business that depends on access to property you only have access to temporarily?

Thank you Hellashelle. A great short and to the point recap. It was so funny to read that the Caray peeps already had all of the information that the police had. Loved it.

Susanlynn---I do always get a kick out of tn's with the "your guilty until proven innocent, so sit in jail until we figure things out" scenes. Daisy---The thing about it is, that's true. You're thinking America, not other countries. In Mexico, you do go locked up for three days. You have that much time to prove that you are innocent. If you can't, you go to jail to await trial however long that is. Mexico isn't the U.S. It's very scary. If someone plants something
in your possession or accuses you
for something, you're in BIG trouble. It really isn't TN drama.
the gringo

Friendly reminder: it is customary to thank the recapper for their work.

I forgot to mention how proud I was of Irma too. Even in the midst of her greatest pain she was able to see reason and help Uriel see it too.

Working in a consulting firm, you guys are killing me on the billable hours. I WANT THAT TEE SHIRT!!

Smart move actually on Ren's part with the firm. If there were clients that wanted to stay with him as their lawyer, they simply break with the old firm and sign him on. Client prerogative. A client can "fire" a firm at any time with most consulting type businesses. That's a nice billable base to start with, especially if any had a fairly nice size retainer.

Also, I would imagine SL doesn't exactly have a major court system, so more than likely they would be having to go to a larger city for some client work or cases. And of course....doesn't it make it all so convenient when nothing goes Ren's or Pato's way with the women in their life and they can just pull up stakes and go back to Mexico.

Linda--I love your points on the phone records. I was happy this was going to be a TN where they do actually use those and make it a believable present day experience, but there should be the logical repercussions to their use when there is suspicion of wrong-doing. Calling for phone records is usually standard in the US. Now that said, the police so far in this show haven't even realized they have a gold mine in finger prints on some of their cases, so I don't hold out much hope with phone records.

Reminder that with Lardo's demise, we have an extra dart board needing a target. Sev? Cande? Val's picture is feeling lonely. We could also take down the board and put up a board with the latest deals from the Naughty Melon Shop.

Daisynjay

Hi all! I'm swamped, so I guess this recap will stay quick and dirty. For those looking for more detail on Ren and Silvia's talk, please see Vivi's comments (thanks for clarifying Vivi, I did not have the head for more last night/this morning).

I also wanted to go back in and highlight Cande's slip up, but it looks like everyone caught that it was HUGE! That's one big difference in romance languages v. English: it's hard to fudge the boy/girl thing. I was actually surprise that we didn't get a booming bass cue to signal the lightning bolt in PJ's head. It looks like he's got a strong inkling, but somehow not a full-on lightbulb. He'd better be asking for E's birth records by the end of the week.

Irma took home the Diamond and Gold prize last night. Yolanda played that scene perfectly. She didn't seem uncaring at all, definitely was still a loving mom. But after her near catatonic state the eppy before, her clarity on Lardo's faults was even more touching. That's a strong lady character right there.

Adelina gets a runner's up prize for giving Lola and loving verbal smack of sense. Lola's well within her right to be pissed, but after the way she dealt with the Mari/Eman kiss, I'm glad someone has maybe cut this one off at the knees, before it gets out of control.

PS: I meant to add that Ade made her say bye to her grandparents when she was ignoring them and that E asked Lola to tell Mari that he went to the precinct so that she wouldn't be worried when he didn't show up at the burial ground. Mari was with her family and too broken up to notice anything else anyway.

This comment has been removed by the author.

Linda- I'm a little confused by Aldonza's Mis Planes as well. I'm sure they are avoiding too many details so Viewerville doesn't start asking questions.

Daisynjay - Lola is being a turd. I wouldn't mind putting up a nerf dartboard for her.

The recap is just fine, Hellashelle! You really did cover everything and if there was anything missing, the patio has your back. But seriously, you got the BIG stuff (like Cande's slip up!)

I am really not sure how they're going to get out of this unless Sev sells out Adriano, which he can't really do without selling himself out too.

Ren kind of set fire to a bridge with the cop, imo. The cop in charge is definitely sensitive about the Mendoza's. I feel like he's making it a point to take a firm stance on this because Cris is a Mendoza and he doesn't want to be seen as bending to the will of influence or money. Uriel made a point (when he went back to the station after his initial rant) to ask that justice be served, no matter who the father of the killer might be.

Also, can I just say how ON POINT this TN has been? They've made us tighten some beanies a little, but on the whole they are really feeling the pulse of the audience. I feel like every time we ratchet those beanies tighter, the next episode addresses our exasperation in some way, even if they don't completely fix it. I don't think I've ever watched another TN where I felt like the production team was really thinking "how would a regular person see this? does this still make sense?" Two thumbs up!

Hellashelle- ITA. Every concern we have brought up, at least one of the characters have brought up, most times just the next episode (or the same one if we start whining and complaining about what we saw in the previews). :)

Hellashelle, no need to add any more, your recap is complete enough for this episode. Sounds like you are busy, thanks for the time you took to write it!

Irma and Uriel are fantastic people (characters!) They are an inspiration to all of us. The best of it is that Irma was truthful about Lardo and then, **this is the magic** Uriel listened to her.... Wow!

Silvia is right, Ren is OBSESSED with Aldonsa. It is such a shame because as a lawyer, he seems so level headed and smart. Yes, blaming Sev at the police station was the wrong thing to do at the moment, but guess what, he’s right!

Agree with Vivi and Hellashelle, this is one of the smartest novelas we’ve been presented with in along time. The character’s minds are clicking along like normal people. In fact, there are many admirable people in La Sombra, what a change!!

Linda - OMG, YES about the renting! Aldonza has pissed Hum off and she's only renting the property for a year. HOw does she think she's going to start a farm under those circumstances? And is it just a farm? Are they creating some kind of organic vitamin supplement, detox cleansing, fat blaster melon juice that will fly off US shelves and propel past Mendoza level money?

Forgot to mention this last night, but Val is an ass. She's so mean and spiteful. She self-satisfied smirk when her dad told her Cris didn't go to the burial made me want to pull that shoe out from yesterday and lay one across her smug b**** face.

PS: I also left out a scene that I found hilarious: Pru, worried about Val, offers her a pill. She fishes a pill box out of her blouse (ha!), picks a pill, rejects it, gives Val another pill and then takes one herself! I was dying! Does she just carry a tiny pharmacy around with her at all times? A one-of-each type deal?

But seriously, Val is a jerk. Her mom was just worried about her and she's a snarky little booger to her for it.

HellaShelle, your ranting about Val fills me with glee. I'm shallow that way. I love watching her not get her way.

Personally, I wouldn't accept anything from Pru unless it came out of a clearly-labeled bottle. She must know her pills very well by sight to have not managed to accidentally OD in all these years! (Although, I'm still holding out hope that one day Humberto will reveal that he replaced them all with sugar pills.)

Gracias, Hellashelle, and great job.

I've been womdering about LUDs on TNs for quite some time. Mexicans can see Law & Order where they are referenced all the time, so why aren't TN cops demanding them?

And what kind of cell does Adriano have? If that one is "untraceable" how would that show up on Sev's LUDs?

Had Candela found out about her nuera in this capitulo I think her brain would have exploded.

It's been eerily on point, hellashelle! I was beginning to think everyone was dropping spoilers! It's so weird to watch a show that seems to have writers that actually keep the audience in mind!

Thank you Hellashelle for the recap! It is perfect, to me. I like 'em brief & succinct. :-D

Sara - "Caray Nation" LOL! So true, too.

Crockpot™ Theory here --- Maybe Adriano will be in a police shootout, Flavia will be killed, and that will leave Joaquin in peace with his son Ray.

" I was at preschool graduation listening to a rousing rendition of ''Little Bunny foo foo" OMG susanlynn..... major earworm for me now. BwaHahahahaaaa!
.... scooping up field mice and banging 'em on the head .....

Candela needs to go shopping at the Naughty Melon and buy a tee shirt that says --- "If mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy."
Personally, I want to see her braids untwirl, mid-hissy fit.

Your theory does get rid of the inconvenient Flavia, doris. But has she done anything to justify her death?

That's a perfect t-shirt for Candela. I get a headache just looking at those braids.

''A snarky .little booger''...that about says it all, hellashelle.

Diva - lol, I'm so busy trying to make myself see good Mari, that I don't have the energy to give Val any silver linings.

UA - So many TNs are remakes that I think production teams can sometimes find it hard to update technology and still keep the plot points that relied on lack of communication or lack of evidence, especially if their audience isn't used to the terminology because then they have to explain what LUDs/burner phones/etc are.

Sara - yes, it would most likely be justified in the court of Caray Nation, no? She is a screechy jealous harpy of a wife who makes Joaquin unhappy. We also need to make way for Adelina to maybe have a chance at love with a guy who always liked her. I think Flavia is disposable. Highly unlikely she would get the 3-day funeral PSA event that Lardo got, though.

Braids are one of my go-to hairstyles, but I have to admit that lately, I'm shying away from anything too Candy-esque. I may have the art of loose, "messy" braids perfected by the time the show ends.

Hellashell, I loved your recap, thank you for your hard work!

I've always been a fan of Uriel and Irma, they have crummy kids but they are good decent people and I want them to adopt me!

Are you guys serious about making t-shirts/planners? Cause i think we should do it!

We only see an unbound Candela when she's happy, so I'm guessing we won't see those locks down for quite a while, if ever.

Also, I hear "Candela!" often in spanish songs so I looked it up and yahoo, surprisingly, provided a pretty solid answer supported by my other search results: "When you call someone "candela" it can have two meanings: either the person is such a troublemaker or the person is hot/sexy." A blog also provides this answer: “!El es la candela!¨ How the heck do you translate that to English? Literally, it means something close to “He’s a livewire”. But we don’t really say anything like “Candela!” in English.

How ironic.

Much like Prudencia's name, cold Candela's name is dripping with irony. Thanks, writers.

And of course there's also Vale, que no vale nada. Thanks, Lardo.

I wonder if Al's plans are about becoming a squattor and refusing to vacate the property, As I mentioned before, one of my students from Italy told me that she does not rent out her apartment in Rome because it is so difficult there to get renters out. However, I do not know how growing veggies is going to get her property back in the long run.

hellashelle - I may be completely off base here but while Sev will surely get a massive anvil in the end (most likely death), I suspect Candela will get some form of redemption and will, as the TN goes on, let her hair down both figuratively and literally. I can envision her with her hair down, more relaxed and *gasp* maybe even happy by the final. ...but then again, I could be wrong. I think we will see a transformation in her by the end.

Val is lucky the police didn't want to speak with their anonymous tipster for further details considering she made the call on the home phone. I know technology has already been mentioned but basic caller ID on the cop phone would reveal where the call came from..or, I am sure they'd have a way of finding out if needed. If only Candela found out what she did, I can imagine a vicious slap in Val's future.

Good recap la diva, short and to the point. They arrested cris but not for murder, because he is the only suspect? So he"s just a person of interest. He needs a lawyer. I don't know anything about the laws south of the boarder, but I guess they'er doing this for efect, it is a soap after all. Keeping him in jail not having charged him with any crime. violating his civil rights.

Maybe some one will point that out to the police chief or whoever"s in charge. Maybe his dad can help him out, legally. We'll see what happens tonight.

That part of "candela"that says she' s a trouble maker sounds like She could probably cause some serious trouble for ally while cris is in the poky.

Not my recap, Nina. This was the work of HellaShelle!

But I thank you for expressing your appreciation. We're all volunteers, so "Thank you" is all the payment we get. Snappy patio conversation is a bonus :)

I'm with Doris on Flavia. In a huff of annoyance, I sort of out that out there myself back awhile.

As for deserving her death, let's see, third tier character, annoying, shrew wife married to a secondary nice guy, in the way of a secondary semi-heroine getting with love of her life. Yep, that will get the anvil in a TN any time.

Poor little guy will lose his mom, but we've already seen that he took a shine to Ade earlier in the TN, so that was out showcase to say he'd be good as gold with her as a mom.

I forgot all about that Ade 'put in your place" to Lola. Lola pouted as usual, but I think it did sink home a bit.

I want to see what happens with Mari now. My guess is she straightens out, but what do the writers do with her? She was primarily the annoying girl around town...oh, no spoiler, but how about the law office receptionist??? Then she is around Pato all the time....see???? I'm going with that weird meet up in the doorway. That had to be for some reason.

I can't remember who first mentioned it, but I just think Pato deserves better.

Yeah, Mari really loved her brother... but she still gets on my nerves.

I'm sorry I'm getting the recapers mixed up. Thanks for setting me straight la diva. HellaShelle keep bringing It girl. THANK YOU ALL.♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡

NINA

Sara - lol, you feel my pain. She's getting better. And in comparison to Val, she's WAY better.

Flavia's much easier to let go. I supported her in the beginning because I feel like she had a point. She was a shrew about it, but she had a point. Running off with her son rather than dealing with the situation is another thing entirely though. Although, to be honest, I could see someone doing that for a few days and being totally stunned about the arrest warrant. She doesn't seem like she was planning on coming back or telling Joaq what was up though, and that's the part that does her in for me.

Linda - I don't think you're off base. There's even a part of me that wants Cande to find redemption. For a second I totally thought Ren's dad was going to roll into town and sweep her off her feet, but the whole keeping E from his parents and treating him like dirt thing is just unforgiveable.

"And in comparison to Val, she's WAY better.

Oh yeah. I'm ready to punch Val's smirking ass in the throat. Hate. Her.

Cande is shrill and controlling, but I don't feel hate for her. I've seen enough of her vulnerable side that I wouldn't mind her being redeemed. She really has to learn to go after what she wants though. (Well, not Padre J.) She seems to blame everyone else for her unhappiness and really it was her inability to speak up for herself that seems to be the root of the problem. I still think another reason she hated Roberta was because Roberta was carefree and did what she wanted.

Val is way overdue for a slap. The writers should find a way to let cande know who pointed the finger at cris. That slap would be felt by their grandkids.

Those two bitches have been in cahoots against ally and cris from the start almost.
Be interesting to see cande's reaction when she finds out.

Nina

Sara - Oh absolutely. I still believe that, at first, she didn't register Roberta too much (while she made up like 99% of Rob's radar). I think there was an inkling and then when Rob didn't confess to the affair, but declared it and truly believed she would and should displace Candela and I think that just stunned Cande, like she could not believe the woman had that audacity to approach the situation like that, no fear whatsoever about repercussions, propriety, nada.

Nina - last night Val crossed a line for me. Rumors are dangerous, but a murder accusation?! Now she's Vile, Vicious, Vindictive Val.

Interesting, I feel so much more animosity toward Val than Cande. Too bad Lardo is gone, he is the only one in St L that had Val’s number and it is 666! I can see some redemption for Cande, Val is a lost cause.

(Ok, admit that I'm a little over the top on my feelings or LACK of feelings for Val, but her smirk has driven me to this!)

You've hit the nail on the head, Sandy. It's that damn smirk. She enjoys other people's suffering. I've never quite gotten that vibe from Cande.

I am in total agreement about Val vs. Candela. Val has a masochistic personality and gets off on others suffering which I don't see at all with Cande. Val is malicious and mean whereas Cande is more cold and unhappy than anything else.
I may not like parts of Candela's personality or her actions a lot of the time but as a whole, I don't dislike the character and would welcome a positive change and redemption as the TN moves on. Val? She's irredeemable to me and just a vindictive sour puss.

The big difference between these 2 'evil' characters is that if the fact that Sev raped Aldonza came out tomorrow, I think Cande would be appalled and disgusted whereas Val would be smirking and think Al deserved it.

I agree, Cande doesn't do things with the goal of making other people suffer. She doesn't care if they do, in some cases...but that's not what she's going for. Val crossed a line when she went to "If I can't have him, no one can" territory. She gets nothing out of that but denying other people happiness. Cande doesn't waste her time on stuff like that. Even when she had Sev and Humberto take Emmanuel (I'm assuming) away from Roberta, that wasn't about punishing Sev, it wasn't about punishing Roberta, and she didn't even want to hear about it, much less gloat. She just wanted to make sure there would be no way to tie that child back to her husband and endanger Cris' claim to Las Animas.

I'm not saying that makes her noble, it just makes her less of a vicious, bitter harpy than Val.

To all newcomers: Thanks for joining us here on the Sombra patio! We have a few rules here: no spoilers (do not discuss anything past the episode covered in the recap); no gossip about the stars' private lives; no criticizing the recap or the recapper. Please remember to thank the recapper. The "Care and Feeding of Recappers" link on the left sidebar near the top of the page covers this in more detail, as does this classic post from Blogmom herself.

Thanks for the reminder, Diva. I am so grateful to have a place to discuss and sometimes I am so eager to talk that I forget.

Linda- yes! Val would totally think Aldonza deserved it. "Cold and unhappy" is a good description of Cande.

Diva, you're spot on. Cande "punishes" people, for real or imagined slights, while Val doesn't even care, she's just mean. She doesn't love Cris, she just wants him and only barely. She'll want Emmanuel when she finds out the truth too.

Ooh! Man, I want to know what Mari does when that happens!

Oh, I don't doubt Val would try to make a play for Emmanuel. By then, I hope that he has a stronger sense of self and isn't just going to fall for anyone who shows him attention. I think that when he says he's over Val, he really means it. He's seen her be so cruel and I think it finally shocked him out of his crush. At least I hope so! But Mari still wouldn't appreciate having Val try to go after "her" man and Val had better watch out, because Mari knows the truth about the Val-Lardo connection.

Valeria will lose any chance she ever had with Emmanuel when he finds out she called the police on Cristobal. When the truth comes out about that will she get arrested? That is a criminal offense in the US.

What I find really disturbing is that it didn't seem to shock her mother.

As for whether Valeria would chase Emmanuel if she knew his parentage, I doubt it. He's still a "bastardo", which is apparently a social crime in SL. And he is half-brother to both Cristobal and Aldonza.

I can't see val wanting to be an-law of aldonza. Can you imagine the christmas dinners, Thanksgivings, oh joy, LOL! !!!

No, thats a family unit that will never come together. Besides she hates ally.

Nina

Come on recaps!!!!!!
