Afternoon Novela-La Vecina: Is there any interest in a weekly post?
Next Monday (June 22) at 3PM/2C Univision will begin airing La Vecina, the latest telenovela from Lucero Suárez (De que te quiero te quiero, Amorcito Corazón and Querida Enemiga.)
It is a remake of the 2003 Colombian telenovela "La costeña y el cachaco." 170 episodes are planned.
It's being billed as a fusion of comedy and melodrama. It stars Juan Diego Covarrubias as Antonio Andrade and Esmeralda Pimentel as Sara Granados. The cast also includes Javier Jattin, Natalia Guerrero, Carlos Bracho, Arutro Carmona, Alejandro Ibarra , Luis Gatica and Alfredo Gatica (Last seen as "Abdul" in DQTQTQ.)
There's a host recognizable faces from other Lucero Suarez productions- Maria Alicia Delgado, Eduardo Shacklett and Bibelot Mansur to name a few. Most importantly, Jose Luis Badalt aka "Hotscar" will have a small role.
Would anyone be interested in a weekly, low-pressure, discussion and highlights only (no recaps) post? If so, please leave a quick comment. I can add a more detailed synopsis and character/cast list to this post later in the week if it looks like a go.
Sinopsis
After losing her hotel job and breaking up with her boyfriend, Sara decides to take a few days and head for the coastal town of San Gaspar.
At the same time Antonio is being sent by his company CONATROL to San Gaspar to investigate the excessive robbery of gasoline from the area.
Destiny will unite Sara and Antonio, first as neighbors and later when she arrives to work at CONATROL. They connect during a weekend on an unexpected trip. There's a great attraction between the two, despite their very different personalities.
Below is a video of the "entrada oficial" for anyone who, like me, judges a TN by its theme song.
Labels: la-vecina, proximas, synopsis-cast
Urban- I've liked Esmeralda since Abismo. I'm still hoping Uni gives us El color de la pasión.
Countx- Thanks for confirming my thoughts about the chemistry between the leads.
I like the leads and really I like the afternoon slot because there are no DVR conflicts... which I have to think about in the fall.
I keeping my fingers crossed about this one.
I've discovered that for me, liking the theme song corresponds with how much I like a show. I should judge a show by its theme song, but the system has worked for me.
1. The theme song and opening credits. It looked like they actually thought about them and made them look good. Amorcito Corazon had cute opening credits, too. And I liked Amorcito Corazon....so this must be good, right?
2. Watching a Lucero Suarez is like old home week for me. She uses a lot of the same actors in her productions and while they may not have large roles, it's always nice when a familiar face pops up on the screen. And she does pick good actors (I should say, she picks actors I like.)
3. I like JDC and have ever since UFCS (Which so far is my favorite role of his. Maybe he'll surpass it in La Vecina.)
4. I like Esmeralda Pimentel and would like to see her playing a nice role. She and JDC look cute as buttons in the opening.
5. I've never seen Javier Jattin, but CUTE.
6. Speaking of cute....Hotscar. I don't care if he ends up having just 4 lines, I want to see Jose Luis Badalt again.
7. Time Slot.
8. Alejandro Ibarra is playing a priest. He was a womanizer in AC and kind of a jerk in DQTQTQ and did both roles well. I want to see if he can pull off priest.
9. The prota's name is Sara :-)
10. And I think she's supposed to be sort of accident prone. Or at least clumsy. I think the pairing is supposed to be a little like the odd couple.
I love Mijares, I really like the Sombra theme and all those he has done. Especially the Sombra theme, the Corazón Salvaje theme and the one from Querida Enemiga. The only one I couldn't stand after hearing it too much was the one from El Privilegio de Amar.
I also like almost all the themes sung by Christian Castro, especially Morelia and Angela.
Interestingly, I never was much for the themes sung by Luis Miguel. The one from El Manantial was terrible.

I've seen the theme for El Manantial and I don't hate it, but boy it doesn't seem to go with the show at all. That's my problem with the Que te perdone dios theme. I like it when I hear it on the radio, but it really doesn't match the show at all. I did like the Luis Miguel theme for Triunfo de amor.
El Privilegio de amar is rerunnig on one of my cable channels. It just started today. I'm not sure how I feel about the theme song.
I guess for me, the theme song is how I weed out my choices, because honestly if I could I would try to watch every telenovela that airs. I hate to say it, but I'm not real crazy about the theme for Yo no creo en los hombres. I will still try it though. It got such great reviews.
I mostly like it when it fits the telenovela, it doesn't have to be the best melody ever but sometimes a great song matches a good novela and you remember it always. Like Te Sigo Amando, that was an awesome theme song and I will forever associate the novela and song together. La Otra is another example of a great matching song and telenovela and Agujetas de Color de Rosa for the less serious and more fun themes is great too.

I looked up the opening credits for La Otra and I do like that. You once mentioned as well that you really liked instrumental music. I have to agree with that. I got to see all of Cuna de lobos when it aired again and I love the opening melody and all the incidental music. One thing I'm liking about Sombra is all of the instrumental music. I find it distracting when there's a lot of pop music with lyrics in the background.
What is the music like on YNCELH? I hope mainly instrumental.
The 1991 version had an instrumental intro that went well with the mood of the story. It's dated now I think (some sounds at the end remind me of the 80's and early 90's type of music for novelas) but I still like it.

I'll check it out - and if there's a weekly page here I'd visit it, but I can't promise to comment too often for a while
I just heard that this will go until February in Mexico which means it might go into March here. I'm still going to watch it, but I can't commit to a weekly post for that long.
If anyone else wants to take up the banner feel free.

Feel free to join in over there, too.
So glad you enjoyed the first two episodes. IMO it gets more adorable as the week progresses.
