Lo Imperdonable #43 Wed 7/15/15 "And to my grandson Manuel, I leave my second best bed..."

Technology and life have conspired against our beloved LatinInMd in small and aggravating ways today.  (No worries, she is just fine!) The upshot is that those of us who look forward to her Wednesday recaps will have to make do with what NovelaMaven can remember about last night's episode.

Please fill in with additions, corrections, etc.

Marty and Vero – Dueling Passions

We join Crazy Marty and Vero in a full-blown Harlequin Romance moment.  He has just bested her in their duel and with one swift movement of his sword, has sliced off the top button of her blouse.  Will she be swept up in the passion of the moment?  Hell, no!  When Marty is off guard, she knocks his sabre out of his hand, picks up her own, and with its point at his throat, gains the upper hand.

Has he allowed her to win?  Probably.  She was angry before.  This makes her even angrier.  She is unwilling to listen to his explanations.  Their self-destructive dance has gone on too long.  It's too late.  They might have been very happy together, but now it's over.
The Check and the Check-out

Vero insists that Marty take the money Jorge has settled on her as a wedding gift/bail-out fund – she has already written a check in his name.  She's not doing it out of love for him but out of concern for the miners.  Without the money, they won't get paid.

Marty looks as if he'd like to tell her the truth – that the mine is doing well and has never really been in danger – but he doesn't.  He lets Vero continue to believe the lie that he and the mine are on the verge of financial ruin.

Vero spends the night alone in the bedroom of the hovel.  The next morning, Marty showers and, still wrapped in a towel (and looking very buff indeed, with no sign of a scar on his belly) comes looking for her.  Alas, she has already left.  He finds a goodbye note along with the piece of gold ore that she is returning to him.  Marty is now devastated at the thought of losing Vero.  Unfortunately, he still believes the lies about her.  ( It doesn't look good, kids.)

Vero goes to the school and helps Dr. F. administer vaccines to all the children, explaining that this will help keep them healthy.  Polo wants Onix to get the vaccine too.  Dr. F explains that dogs have to get a special vaccine from the vet.  Of course Polo is the brave one who volunteers to go first.

Then Vero goes to the mine to confront Manuel about Ana Perla.  She knows he has her locked up in the house.  If he doesn't let her see the girl, Vero will go to the police and accuse him of kidnaping.   She arranges to stop by the house later.

The Old Goat's House

Pablo persuades Julio to let him take a little walk with Ana Perla.  Pablo tells her to cover her head with her blue shawl.  (Perhaps he thinks it will make her invisible rather than instantly recognizable.)  Ana Perla refuses to take advantage of the moment and run away with Pablo, both out of loyalty to her grandfather and out of concern for Julio and Tomasina, who would both be blamed.

El Purgatorio

Emiliano apologizes to Claudia for rejecting her the other day.  She is ever so understanding and willing to offer him solace.  (She nearly chokes when Emi tells her he feels bad that the other night was Ginny's first time.   ("At her age?")

Ireri prevails on barkeep Medel to let Manuel sleep as long as possible.  (Poor baby is missing The Claudia Show.  Would that we were so lucky.)  She knows that Pablo is taking advantage of Manny's stupor to visit Ana Perla.  Eventually, however, Manny comes to and they have to lead him back home.

The Old Goat's House

Julio sees a very drunken Manny being half-carried to the house by Medel and another guy.  He tells Pablo to scram.   Then he and Ana Perla try to hide by crouching behind the fountain.  Manny sees his sister (or maybe just a flash of blue).  Pablo, who has stuck around, now comes out and distracts him, allowing Julio and Ana Perla to sneak into the house.  Everyone tells Manny that he is mistaken about seeing his sister.  (Because, as Padre Juan told him, everyone hates him.)

The following day, Manny brings in a locksmith to fix the lock on the door to the storage room.  Then he forces Ana Perla inside the dark, dirty buggy space.

[A chant goes round the Patio: CAVE JAIL CAVE JAIL CAVE JAIL]

At least she has some matches and is able to light a lantern.  She begins to regret not running away with Pablo when she had the chance.

El Cementerio

Now it's Ginny's turn to wail at Demetrio's miserable grave (which, by the way, you'd think Botel would have spiffed up a bit – Demetrio was filthy rich when he died).  Ginny, in her ugliest outfit yet (wardrobe doesn't seem to like her any more than we do) mourns her true love, but even more, she mourns Demetrio's cowardice – if he had held on just a little longer, she would have had him AND his gold.  Oh woe is she.

Naturally, Nanciyaga is watching.  She's too far away to hear what Ginny is saying, but the body language is clear enough.  Now Nanciyaga knows with certainty that Ginny, not Vero, is the mala mujer.   But since she wants Crazy Marty for herself, she decides not to tell him.

Emiliano and Nanciyaga

Emiliano bumps into Nanci in the little market square.  He asks if she will take him to meet her people.  She says YES.  Ginny wants to come along too.  No soap, Nanciyaga tells her.

Ginny and Dr. F

Ginny fantasizes about winning over Emiliano, getting control of the Prado Castelo fortune, and then dumping both Emi and Dr. F for a man who is truly worthy of her.  (Satan?  Isn't he a confirmed bachelor?)

But until that time comes, she has to keep playing along with the Effster.  So when he shows up in her room looking for a little nookie, she has to provide it.

The Old Goat in the Big City

Botel has persuaded Crescencio to allow the catheterization.  The Old Goat, however, is feeling very remorseful about the way he left things with Ana Perla.  He doesn't want to die with her still angry at him.

He seeks out his notario and makes some last minute changes to his will – just in case he doesn't survive the procedure.  (Let's hope it's a very big and unpleasant surprise for the idiot Manuel!)

The Old Goat asks Botel why he has always been so good to him.  Botel says that he knows that under his crusty curmudgeon exterior,  the Old Goat is really a good man.  Hmm.

Okay, so what have I left out?

Thanks NovelaMaven. Looking forward to forward to it.

Haven't watched the episode yet but will get to it later today.

A small point but the way Vero got the upper hand in the dual was she stepped on Marty's sword when he relaxed for a moment and let the tip of it touch the floor. Thanks fo stepping in Nm.

duel. Thanks Android spell check.

Thanks for jumping in with such an excellent recap, NovelaMaven. It is always such a treat to read whatever you have to say.

"She also nearly chokes when Emi tells her he feels bad that the other night was Ginny's first time."

Well, I could have believed it if I didn't already know differently. I think that some here on The Patio may be judging her too harshly. Heck, she was even volunteering to visit Nanciyaga's village... you don't see Verónica doing that. And remember, she hasn't killed anyone... yet.

I'm kinda enjoying Claudia's singing. She's bringing joy to an otherwise rather drab little cantina and her outfits are excellent.

Carlos

NovelaMaven I don't know what you left out but what you put in was sure good.

Ginny fantasizes about control of the Castelo fortune and then dumping both Emi and Dr. F for a man who is truly worthy of her. Satan? LOL That is the gold star line of the week NovelaMaven.

Can't wait to see Emi and Nanci going off into the jungle. Ginny will be so angry about that she will probably have steam coming out of her ears.

Don't know if the previews showed us anything special coming to us on Friday--I've forgotten but whatever it is, it's going to be a long wait.

Thanks again NovelaM.
the gringo

Anon 5:54, thanks for adding that telling detail.

Carlos,

"Well, I could have believed it if I didn't already know differently."

And that, my dear Carlos, is why you will always need the Lovely Linda to look out for you.

Gringo,
As always, the pleasure is entirely mine. Glad you liked it.

I was wondering what Vero said to Martin when she showed him the check with his name on it. Also, anyone else think that Cresencio isn't going to make it through the operation?

Anon, 6:53, thanks for reminding me about the check. I just added a little to the recap ("The Check")

There's a whole lot of foreshadowing about Crescencio and the operation, but who knows? We've been fooled before (Or at least I have, and many times!)

Anon,

She said:

"Here is a check with your name on it. Take it. Save the jobs of your people in the mine and have a good trip."

Carlos

Ginny fantasizes about winning over Emiliano, gaining control of the Prado Castelo fortune, and then dumping both Emi and Dr. F. for a man who is worthy of her. (Satan? Isn't he a confirmed bachelor?)

What a great line. Just another reason why I try never to miss a NovelaMaven recap. Thanks for filling in for LatinainMD. Hopefully all will be well soon.

I'm holding out hope for Ana Perla ending up with someone other than Pablo, if only because their theme song is so insipid.

Wouldn't mind a few more Harlequin Romance moments though between Veronica and Martin. A bit of a change-up from those tired old rose petals that magically appear whenever the galan gets randy.

Thanks again NovelaMaven...you're a great pinch hitter.

Ooh la la, JudyB! What a treat to see you here! (I knew we'd get a better class of visitors around here after Pierre got the power boats up and running.)

And yes, that theme song is incredibly insipid – I am tempted to mute the tv every time they play it!

You're very kind. This is pretty rough around the edges, but it will have to do, I guess.

Hey Carlos, thanks for the exact wording about the check.

Thanks NovelaMaven good recap. You hit the good points.
Someone should drow a hole in the street so manuel can walk right into it and drop then erase it, like they do on those bugs bunny cartoons. I can't stand him. Put his sister in a dark storage room? Seriously? And she don't have sence enough to run away when she gets the chance. Go figure.
I think granpa changed the will. surprise, surprise, surprise, manual, hahahaha!!!!!!
Nanciyaga,"but since she wants crazy Marty for herself, she decides not to tell him." LOL, She's kind of out there herself. Talkin to them snails, talkin about herself in the third person. That really would push marty over. I really can't see Marty with her or Dmitry, maybe Emiliano. Yeah, thats a good fit. So is V-snake for satan.
That sword fight between Veronica and Martin, well I guess it was kind of romantic but it really didn't do anything, they could have put something else in that space. Cause he is still a buthead.

Thank you so much NovelaMaven.

"Perhaps he thinks it will make her invisible rather than instantly recognizable"

It blows me away that folks just stand there and let Manuel lock a woman in a cellar. Tomorrow, they'll let him whip her in the street.

The one person Veronica trust is the person Martin runs and whines to and he cleverly masks a request to monitor her with concern for her safety and emotional fragility. Magdalena called him on it but she rolled over even after he again says to her he needs time to deal with her promiscuous past so she cannot leave. Why is what he does to Veronica any different than what Manuel does to Ana Perle?

I don't think Virginia knows what she wants, she's all over the place and the mental calisthenics during her musing don't help. It would do the show some good to start over. Oh, and buy her some new outfits.

Thanks, NovelaMaven, for jumping in with an emergency recap. Excellent as always.

JudyB..I have missed seeing you at Caray.

Hmmm..Do you think that Dr. F might put the moves on Very(ticked)?

OT ...Carlos, I am enjoying the dark and stormy Poldark.

NovelaMaven,
Thanks for the recap. What a treat to read this on a stressfilled workday.

LatinaInMD, I hope things are going better for you.

JudyB, how great to hear from you today. You are greatly missed on the patio.

Gringo, you are right in saying it's going to be a long wait for the next epi. In the meantime, we can discuss and comment.

The thing that stood out to me the most about last night (besides Ivan walking out in that towel) was Manny locking up his sister in that storage room. I can't stand the guy. He is crazy. I hope Julio can find a way to get her out. AnaPerla may not be my favorite, but she does not deserve that.

Going back to that towel scene, I made sure to watch it a few times, just to see if they had forgotten to put a scar on that very toned physique. After about the 3rd time, I saw no scar.

I am actually liking Emi. Lately he has been normal. How long will this last?

More later.

Hasta pronto

@NovelaMaven - nonsense. There is nothing rough around the edges in your writing. It's exquisite. Thank you so much again for pinch-hitting for me at the last minute and for the extra advice on relaxing my nerves.

Thanks everyone else for your kind words. There's nothing wrong with me, other than I am going a little nutty now that I am mere days away from moving clear across the country from east to west. On top of that, I had to deal with a technology mishap that prevented me from writing my recap. Thank goodness NovelaMaven came to the rescue once again.

Latina, I'm only glad I was in a position to do this one tiny thing for you. Despite the stress, you remain incredibly gracious. Thank you.

Hi Nina!
I've been waiting for Emi and Nanciyaga to spend some time together ever since the writers told us about his interest in prehispanic art many episodes back. I think they would be a very fun couple – and imagine Salma's reaction! hee hee.

tofie,
Thanks for reminding us about Marty's attempt to enlist Magdalena. The comparison between Marty's treatment of Vero and Manny's of Ana Perla is alarmingly apt. Ouch.

And I'm sorry but Virginia doesn't deserve new outfits. :-)

Susanlynn,
Nice to see you here this evening, chica!

"Hmmm..Do you think that Dr. F might put the moves on Very(ticked)?"

Interesting question. Dr. F has spent a lot of time with Vero and has never shown the slightest interest in her romantically or seemed at all attracted to her. He seems far more inclined in Claudia's direction. Like Carlos, he apparently enjoys her singing and her 'excellent' outfits.

Aunty Ann, I think you're right about Emi. He's been behaving himself lately and has been a lot more likeable. Sobriety agrees with him. Unfortunately, every time he tries to stay sober, Ginny is there to appeal to his weakness. He's an alcoholic and he needs treatment. How long before he gets it?

I'm very impressed by your thoroughness in determining the absence of a scar on Ivan's Adonis-like torso. But perhaps we need to look again... you know, just to be extra sure. :D

No worries, NovelaMaven, I am willing to sacrifice for the sake of the patio. As soon as I get home I will determine once and for all whether there is indeed a scar on Ivan's "Adonic-like torso". Just to be extra sure; no matter how many times I must watch that clip.

HAHAHAHAHAHAH!

Good morning AuntyAnn! It's been barely a month since marty hot stabbed, There should still be a scar. But this is telenovaland people heal super fast there. Sometimes they try to keep it kind of real. I want to see to if theres a scar to, not that it matters, vero is tired of this buthead. Rewine, fast forward, stop, and do it again auntyann, you go girl, HAHAHAHAaH! :-D

Since marty(got) stabbed→→→→↑

"And remember, she (Virginia) hasn't killed anyone... yet"

I'm impatient for Virginia to get her bad on, if indeed she is bad. So what she plays Selma like a fiddle, wants to marry money and spreads a rumor her competition is a slut, how many 13 year olds haven't? She didn't kill Demetrio, she didn't bully him to commit suicide, all she did is set a completion date and stuck to it. Ok, she did mark Demetrio and lied to achieve a goal, but so has Martin, she fell in love with the guy, but Martin fell in love with Veronica, she encouraged Demetrio to leave his job and isolate himself in the jungle, but Martin has actually tricked Veronica to live in the same house. Hmmmm, now to think of it, Virginia didn't intentionally try to destroy Demetrio but I cannot say the same for Martin and his mark. Come on Virginia, you got some ground to make up.

Thanks so much for jumping in for LatinaMD and providing a stellar recap, NovelaMaven.

I was so happy to see Vero stick to her guns, er..saber, and tell Marty it's over.

Tofie- Your comparison between Marty and Virginia is so spot on! They both manipulated another person for their own purposes. They both fell in love with their mark. They both caused their mark misery and heartache. So, if Vero were to commit suicide because of Marty's treatment of her, would he understand if her family members came after him with guns blazing? Actually, isn't that what Emi is doing? Going after Marty for treating Vero like crap.

The person I least understand in all of this is Magdalena. This is a woman who experienced a relationship with a jealous, possessive man and the result is she nearly died. Yet, she just brushes Vero's real concerns about Marty's erratic behavior aside, and says love will cure all. She, more than anyone else, should be telling Vero to get on the next boat out of town.

Vivi, I was thinking of Magdalena this morning and is a head scratcher. Agree, she more than anyone can spot an abuser, yet, she has not warned Veronica, despite the "bond", something is amiss when she knows that Martin is lying. All I can come up with is that everyone in this town, male and female including Magdalena, believe women are possessions, the man is always right and the worst sin is having a vagina.

My pleasure, Vivi!

I also like tofie's comparison between Marty and Ginny (and between Marty and Manny) – "All I can come up with is that everyone in this town, male and female including Magdalena, believe women are possessions, the man is always right and the worst sin is having a vagina."

Maybe so. But it seems to me that we can make these comparisons and entertain these hypotheses because it is all there in the writing. This is a very compelling story.

I'm holding out hope for Ana Perla ending up with someone other than Pablo, if only because their theme song is so insipid

@ tofie: Not truer words have ever been spoken. For some reason I start laughing uncontrollably every time I hear their theme song...it is as boring as they are.

@Tofie and Vivi: I agree with both of you to a certain extent. I am not sure that the Marty and Virginia comparison is spot on. Virginia is a sociopath that has no conscience and the end seems to always justify the means for her. She has been faking a heart conditions for YEARS...that is some serious commitment. I could not believe that she actually had the nerve to chastise Demetrio at his grave for committing suicide...who does that? Vero was more upset when she visited Demetrio’s grave than she was.

The fact that Martin stood up to Manuel and got stabbed in the process defending Vero and told Claudia that he was willing to lose their friendship to make Vero happy shows that there is still hope for him. He actually did tell Vero to leave because he could not make her happy and she was the one who decided to stay. I am not making any excuse for Martin’s behavior but he is not Virginia.

Virginia acts solely in her interest with no regards for anyone...she does not even care about Selma who worships the ground she walks on. I actually do not think that she ever loved Demetrio or is capable of loving anyone..sociopath are incapable of love...everyone is a means to get what she wants.

Martin (again not justifying his action) is acting from a place of immense grief and guilt. Anger is the second stage of mourning and he is right smack in the middle of it.

Great comment, anon 11:51! One tiny point though – tofie says a lot of smart, funny and quotable stuff, but this line...

"I'm holding out hope for Ana Perla ending up with someone other than Pablo, if only because their theme song is so insipid"

... comes from our wonderful JudyB.

Didn't someone point out that all the writers were guys in another tn that was commented on a while back? Is that the same case with this tn? I can understand grumpy Gramps and crazy Manny and some of the other guys on that island, you know being stuck in their old ways, but Martin is supposed to be a little bit more sophisticated than that isn't he? I think he's just crazy and paranoid with jealousy and he needs to get some professional help. my mama used to say being married to a jealous man is misery. It is to hot for all that foolishness. Run Veronica Run!!!!!!!!

Hi NovelaMaven: I forgot to compliment you on your recap. I have been coming on here for a while; I always enjoy your recaps along with the other bloggers. I enjoy the different writing styles.

Thank you for correcting my gaffe concerning JudyB.

Thanks for the recap. Now on to Ivan's torso. I looked on your behalf, maybe 20 times, in the interest of science but no scar. I looked in slow mo, nopis, not there but since I was wiping off the drool off my chin and going into vapors I could have missed it. I will look again. No thank you needed, it is really, really my pleasure
Romy

@Romy: LMAO. Let me know if you need a second opinion. LOL

Dear Anon 12:15,

I'm glad you enjoyed the recap and I'm especially happy to read that you are a Caray regular. (Thanks aren't obligatory on my watch, but hey, we're only human and it's always nice to get a little pat on the back. Anyhow, I appreciate hearing that you enjoy our work.) Why not choose an identity? It makes conversations a lot more satisfying, I find.

Nina, I'm not the expert on the background of this novela – we count on Latina for that – but it seems to me that the writers here are women.

Romy, so nice that you're enjoying the scenery. :-)

Anon- I agree that Virginia and Marty aren't the same kind of people. But I believe what he is doing to Vero is similar to what Virginia did to Demetrio. I would say he is even worse, since he is supposed to be a good person with a conscience, yet is going ahead with his plan to use and abuse Vero for vengeance.

Some great conversations and comments this morning.

Yes Vivi, it does look like Vero has stuck to her saber and is out of there. Crazy Marty's desperate kisses and his many I'm sories, seemed to have lost their affect this time. Vero has had it with crazy Marty. Maybe, just maybe this will start Martin down the road of discovery. The road to discover his problem/s and get him seeing things as they really are.

Emi and Nanci? Maybe it will be Emi and Vero for now even if it is just a shoulder to cry on.

I wonder what Manuel's take on the Marty/Vero break-up will be?

I've been laughing about all of the knife wound scar comments. Stars don't have scars.

Latina xMD---Hope your move goes smooth. The West over the East anytime.

Carlos---Are we going to agree? What's wrong with this picture? Well I have been enjoying Claudia's sing also---or the person that is singing off stage. LOL Yes Claudia is bringing a little bit of free entertainment to an otherwise non entertainment town. She seems to be putting a spark of happiness and enjoyment to an otherwise dull cantina. Well dull when Manuel isn't around. The people are loving her, her songs and yes, her uptown flashy wardrobe. I say go Claudia.

I wonder how long the separation, divorce? will last before Marty discovers the truth about his brother. And when he does, what then? Will it be bad news or curtains for Virginia Viper?

It has been a long wait but must see tv tonight is edging closer.
the gringo

I meant to talk about last night's episode but got sidetracked by Ivan's 12 packs, ahem. Since it is in Virgy's best interest for Vero to stay married I wonder what she'll do if Dr. Feelgood tells her about his convo with Vero. What would she do to prevent the split? Maybe let it slip to the tios that she and Emi did the horizontal mambo? That way they could pressure Emi into marriage? NancyY is not that innocent, lol, I guess she doesn't need the snails to learn how to skim to get a man. My question is does that make a mala mujer or no? If yes, than she needs to find a new moniker Virgy. Poor AP, Manuel needs a truck full of anvils y punto.
Romy

I meant to comment on how outrageous it is for this whole town to know that Manuel is abusing his sister, locking her up in an airless room without light, and just standing by and shrugging their shoulders like this isn't against the law. And she's still a minor too! Thank you Vero, for being the only one to say something. Not even her own darn aunt and uncle are doing anything. But it's sort of ineffective for her to tell Manuel the exact time she is dropping by. All he'll do is trot AP out of the wood shed for a few minutes while Vero is there, and then lock her up again as soon as Vero leaves.

Dr.Judy,

How great that you've joined us in these discussions. We've been missing you. You know that I always appreciate and enjoy hearing your opinions. Why don't you join us over here at the Ginny Table? We'll make room for you. Because of Ginny's fragile health we are mostly serving fresh juices and herbal teas but could probably come up with something stronger if you wish.

Anon,

I must have missed the episode in which Ginny was diagnosed as a sociopath. Behaving selfishly certainly is not enough to label her as such. On the other hand, marrying someone with the plan of mistreating or hurting her with ill-conceived motive of vengeance seems to at least put Martín in contention for such a classification. For sure, mental stability and maturity are not his strong suits.

Am I the only one who enjoys Ana Perla's and Pablo's sweet little song?

Carlos

@ Vivi DC.

Unlike Virginia...Martin is conflicted by his actions. Ironically, the fact he is not consistent with Vero is making Vero suffer even more than if he was a jerk to her 100% of the time. The fact that she never knows when he is going to pull the rug from under her is the worst kind of punishment. That being said, he is also suffering. Try to imagine falling in love with someone who you think drove someone you loved to commit suicide and you also blame yourself for not being there to prevent it from happening. I think the guilt of that is enough to drive anyone crazy.

Virginia’s action is textbook crazy. The two times that Virginia looked like she might actually have a conscience (when she heard Demetrio committed suicide from Claudia and when she went to his grave) was quickly replaced by the sociopath Virginia being angry that Vero was the one that was going to enjoy Demetrio’s good fortune and her telling a dead Demetrio that he was weak for killing himself.

If Martin was anything like Virginia or worse than her, he would have just stood by and let Manuel rape /abuse Vero and that could have been the ultimate revenge, but he did not hesitate for a moment to get in Manuel's face…. at his own peril...to defend a woman who he thinks is responsible for the death of his only living family member. He also gave Vero a chance to leave and she decided to stay.

If the consensus is that he is a jerk for acting the way he is towards her...what is her responsibility in all this? If someone told me that I needed to leave him because he was not going to make me happy...I am going to take him at his word, pack my bags, and roll them down the hills...especially when the priest is in support of you leaving as well.
As a woman, I do not condone Martin's behavior, but I am also human and I know anger, anguish, and the desire to make someone hurt as much as they've hurt you or someone you love...so I get his manic behavior to a certain extent.

Romy,
Thanks for joining the search for Ivan's scar. I too was in search of it all this morning and part of the afternoon with no luck. But to put the patio at ease I will keep looking. Hopefully he will shower again in tonight's episode and we will get another look, ahem, I mean we will get some more research material.

Anon 11:51am,
I liked your analysis of the comparison between Marty and V-Snake. Of course what Marty is doing is wrong, but the difference is that he KNOWS it's wrong and he is suffering right along with Vero. There will be no peace until he finds out the truth. The pain and guilt of his brothers death is blinding him from the truth and allowing him to believe the worst about Vero. V-Snake does not think what she does is wrong. She does mean things to get what she wants. It's purely selfish. She does not suffer or feel pain. Those tears at Demi's grave were out of anger. She was pissed that Demi killed himself before she could get her hands on that gold.

Gotta get back to work...

Hasta pronto!

@Carlos

I think Virginia fits the following profile more than Martin. Is there one person on the show that you can honestly say that Virginia genuinely cares about> Every person she meets/or that is in her life is a means to an end.

Demetrio: to make her rich and provide her life of luxury. Made him think that Jorge would never approve of their relationship if he was not filthy rich;

Martin: to destroy Vero. Told him a bunch of lies about Vero;

Salma to protect and defend her from Jorge and everyone... which she does, but she hates her.

Daniel: to help her in deceiving everyone into thinking she has a heart problem; and
Emilio to replace the life of luxury that Demetrio was to weak to provide.

Profile of the Sociopath

•Glibness and Superficial Charm

•Manipulative and Conning
They never recognize the rights of others and see their self-serving behaviors as permissible. They appear to be charming, yet are covertly hostile and domineering, seeing their victim as merely an instrument to be used. They may dominate and humiliate their victims.

•Grandiose Sense of Self
Feels entitled to certain things as "their right."

•Pathological Lying
Has no problem lying coolly and easily and it is almost impossible for them to be truthful on a consistent basis. Can create, and get caught up in, a complex belief about their own powers and abilities. Extremely convincing and even able to pass lie detector tests.

•Lack of Remorse, Shame or Guilt
A deep seated rage, which is split off and repressed, is at their core. Does not see others around them as people, but only as targets and opportunities. Instead of friends, they have victims and accomplices who end up as victims. The end always justifies the means and they let nothing stand in their way.

•Shallow Emotions
When they show what seems to be warmth, joy, love and compassion it is more feigned than experienced and serves an ulterior motive. Outraged by insignificant matters, yet remaining unmoved and cold by what would upset a normal person. Since they are not genuine, neither are their promises.

•Incapacity for Love

•Callousness/Lack of Empathy
Unable to empathize with the pain of their victims, having only contempt for others' feelings of distress and readily taking advantage of them.

•Poor Behavioral Controls/Impulsive Nature
Rage and abuse, alternating with small expressions of love and approval produce an addictive cycle for abuser and abused, as well as creating hopelessness in the victim. Believe they are all-powerful, all-knowing, entitled to every wish, no sense of personal boundaries, no concern for their impact on others.

•Irresponsibility/Unreliability
Not concerned about wrecking others' lives and dreams. Oblivious or indifferent to the devastation they cause. Does not accept blame themselves, but blames others, even for acts they obviously committed.

Quite a bit of that describes Marty...

novelamaven...I love the title.

Bless your heart for noticing, Susanlynn. Thank you!

I think the people in that town are afraid of that old guy because he's the Big Kahuna in that town and sometime back somebody mentioned something about someone objected to something that he wanted or whatever and something happened to that person. And then there's crazy manny,so I think these people are afraid of the old geezer, what he might do to them, because in that town his word is law. But he might come back a changed man. I think he changed his will. If that's the case manny is going to really flip out.

Carlos---This is two in a row, something must be wrong. The Pablo/Ana Perla song---
I don't dislike it at all.

You probably don't want me visiting or sharing a table but this is two in a row now.
If it reaches three, I just know that something will happen.

Agree quite a bit of those points do fit Marty. I don't think he has an excuse simply because he fell in love with his victim. He continues to do damage and his only concern is if she'll stay around long enough for him to resolve his problem.

CARLOS, that song (ana perla and pablo) song, I've heard that song before on an english show not long ago. Its an odd sounding song for a couple in love, of course I don't know the words but I suppose it's appropriate for them since they are in love and it is a love song of the country love song persuasion.

Vivi & Anon 4:14pm,

To an extent some of those do describe Marty, but not entirely. I think Marty is having a crisis, where V-Snake has been conniving her whole life.

There is evidence that Marty was an ok guy before all this happened with Demi. He was and has been committed to rebuilding the church and school in Mina Escondida. He kept paying the miners while they were recovering from the intoxication, and he brought them food when they were working long hours at the mine. When he first met Vero at the club, he helped her when she was having trouble with the horse. He also made sure to do things the right way with the mine incident. Manny just wanted to find the cheapest way to fix the problem, but Marty insisted on going through the proper channels. I am not saying that Marty is a saint, but merely pointing out that even though he is doing bad by Vero, he is not on the level of V-Snake. When have we seen her do something that wouldn't benefit her in the end? Anything and everything she does is for her benefit. She says that she truly loved Demi, but that is a total lie. If she did, she would not have cared that he was not rich.

Romy, still looking for the scar. I will keep you updated!

Hasta pronto!

As for Virginia "...deceiving everyone into thinking she has a heart problem..."

I'm pretty sure that she has or at least has had some type of genuine heart problem... perhaps not as serious or debilitating as she and Dr. Dan have led folks to believe, but not entirely fictitious and I fear that it may come back to bite her at some point.

@AuntyAnn :)

@ Vivi: The lack of empathy and conscience is what makes Virginia a sociopath... Martin's behavior is bad but he is not a bad person and that is the major difference that separates Marty from Vsnake.

I remember when Vero first met Martin that she told him that if something happened to Dim it was his destiny yet when she was at his grave she was very emotional and told him to rest in peace. Virginia goes to his grave, shed a few tears and two second later it is all about her and how Dim was weak and robbed her of the life that "she deserves". All things for Virginia begins and ends with Virginia.

We all have said and done things at some point in our life and can look back on and cringe...because we have a conscience. I do not see one ounce of that in Virginia and as that is why in my opinion she is a sociopath.... her deep hated for Salma is really telling of her true character....Salma literally worships Virginia and all Virginia is thinking is that when she becomes Emi's wife she is going to ger rid of her...nuts. As Nancyaga would say...mala mujer

Carlos,

We actually do know that Ginny had a heart problem that was treated surgically. When Dr. Ríos, the cardiologist/shrink, reviewed her case, he expressed surprise that she was symptomatic after what appeared to have been a successful procedure. We found out that she had persuaded Dr. F to go along with the fiction that she was still in delicate health.

I'd also not be surprised to see her fake symptoms become real at some point.

Anon 6:09pm,

Great points you brought up about V-Snake. She truly is in my opinion a villain in this story. I also have to agree with some of you that mentioned what a bad wardrobe she has. She probably dressed better as BM in LQLVMR.

Of course Marty is acting like a jerk, and V-Snake is mostly to blame. Virginia (a master-manipulator), Emiliano, Jorge and Selma, who should be the people who know Vero the best, told Marty exactly what he needed to hear to blame Vero for Demi's demise. But that's what manipulator's do. They can convince you of the unbelievable, as long as it benefits them. I have witnessed a manipulator first hand and it's quite impressive. Sooner or later the truth will be known and Marty will feel like an idiot.

Hope everyone's having a great Friday. Will we be having any appetizers tonight on the patio? I for one can use a cold beverage.

Hasta pronto!
