This is great! Thank you, Sara. "Ella Es" is quite the tongue-twister. It sounds really chill, but the words go by so fast. I didn't really pay attention before.

Thanks for the music links, Sara! Kat- You are so right that Ella Es is a deceptively simple tune, with not so simple lyrics. Tongue twister is right!

I'm glad there's coverage for this week. I wasn't sure what my schedule for today would look like. I was invited as a plus 1 to a wedding in Brazil yesterday, and booked my ticket today! That's where I'll be the first two weeks of September, but now I've got a lot of projects/reports/proposals to wrap up before then.

Ooh, that sounds exciting! I love hearing about your travels, Vivi :D

That sounds fun, Vivi! I can't wait to hear about your trip when you return!

Thanks, Sara! I love this music.

Sara - I meant this Thurs the 20th, I'd like to do the 27th but that's too far out for me to predict my schedule. Its looking good for this week though I'd like to plan on your doing highlights just in case.

And thanks for giving me this chance

Sounds good sneaky. I'll plan on doing highlights in the 20th unless you say otherwise.

I'm happy to give anyone a chance! :)

Glad you all enjoyed the music!

Monday 8/17 Part 1

-Sara finishes negotiating with Pedro. He asks her about Ricardo, and what might be his position within the company. She’s not sure, but she did see him in a meeting with the CONATROL president & other big wigs when she went to their HQ.

-Ricardo finally gets past Tito the security guard when Marina confirms that Rick is general manager of all CONATROL plants. That’s quite impressive Rick, why are you still living in that tiny apartment?? Right before he enters Antonio’s office he demands to Marina that “Oribe Peralta” (the security guard) be reported to HR for not letting him through. Marina calls Tito to tell “Oribe Peralta” the next time he steps out of line he’ll be sacked! They have a good laugh about pulling that joke at the ingeniero’s expense.

-Padre Vincente is paying up and going through with the bet he made with Fidel. Apparently being in the priesthood doesn’t prepare one to be a traffic cop.

-Juancho visits Cheo at work to congratulate him for getting back with Sara. He then promptly asks Cheo for money for “books”. Cheo tells him he doesn’t have any to give, and Juancho says he’ll remember that next time he wants information about his sister. He’s just the best brother a girl can ask for.

-Sara and Mercedes talk on the phone about money logistics for the restaurant. The bank loan with the house as collateral is short of the amount they need, but Sara explains about Pedro’s kindness of not having to pay the full amount right at that moment. He will accept monthly payments on the money she’s short on. So Sara will be making monthly payments on the bank loan, what she will still owe to Pedro, and the rent on the restaurant. Mercedes warns hers that she’s going to have to work extra hard, but no hurdle is big enough in the face of Sara’s excitement.

- In Antonio’s office, he asks Ricardo why he came to San Gasper. Rick responds that he’s there to inspect the process of the ink injection citing he might become responsible to oversee that procedure in other CONATROL plants. Ricardo pokes fun at Antonio’s drunken state from the other night, and asks if he was with la vecina. Antonio tells him to butt out of his personal life. Rick continues by saying he had breakfast at El Molcajete. He didn’t know Sara was the manager, and smirked about how well one eats there. Antonio’s jaw gets super tight. He’s probably counting to ten in his head. Later we see a little montage of their long work day. In the evening Rick calls it quits, but Antonio says he still has some work to finish.

-During the day we saw Nelson get a call from Pedro wanting information about Ricardo. Nelson will investigate. We see him gossip with Rafe to get info. Nelson tells Pedro that Rick came to oversee how the ink injection will work, and that it might be done in other plants throughout the county. Pedro is not happy with that piece of news.

-Ricardo calls to meet Isabel at the restaurant of his hotel. He doesn’t take no for an answer. Isabel runs into Sara on her way out, and they both give each other the stink eye.

-Sara talks to Simon about Pedro’s kind business offer outside on their balcony. He’s not so sure about it, but Sara says it won’t be a problem if she pays on time. Someone better knock on wood for her. Antonio walks out on his balcony calling for Isabel. Sara tells him she saw Isabel leave a while ago. Antonio calls Isabel to ask where she is. Unfortunately for her she tells him she’s at the apartment & wonders if he’s coming home soon. With a stony face he tells her he is still at work, and he might be a while. Sara watches all this with a worried & curious look.

Monday 8/17 Part 2
-At the restaurant Rick & Isabel’s meet is a no go when Gutierrez spots Rick, and invites him to eat with him. Rick can’t refuse and unhappily plops down. Gutierrez is oblivious. Isabel skedaddles, and worries that she might have been recognized. Then don’t be doing anything you shouldn’t be doing!

-Bruno and Javi are chatting about Bruno’s first day in transporting goods. Isabel walks right by them, talking on her phone with Ricardo. By what they hear they speculate that she might be cheating on Antonio.

-Right when she walks in, Antonio calls her out on her lie. She tries to BS him & turn the guilt on him by saying she took a walk after being cooped up inside all day waiting for him. It turns into a shouting-so-loud-the-neighbors-can-hear-us type of argument. Bruno overhears them as he walks into his apartment. Their argument ends when Antonio’s dad calls. Isabel is relieved.

-Bruno tells Sara & Simon about the neighbors’ super loud fight. Simon says the less they know of them the better. When goes Sara goes to her room, Bruno confides to Simon he thinks Isabel might be cheating on el vecino.

-Next morning, Antonio tells Isabel his dad called to say Isabel’s dad rejected the loan application, but instead the two dads will go into a business partnership. Isabel then promises to not tell him another lie, not even little white lies, ever again. Right after she makes that statement, in the most ironic moment of the episode, Isabel says she getting a call from “Rita” aka Rick. While Antonio finishes getting ready, Isabel talks on the phone. She tells Rick that she almost got caught on her lie, and she won’t meet him again because it’s too much of a risk. Rick says the secrecy excites him. Gag me. To get her interested again, Ricardo decides to use Sara to make Isabel jealous. He lets Isabel know he'll be eating at El Molcajete, and later sends her a text saying how great the food is and how personable the service and manager are. Isabel can’t let him fall for la vecina’s charms like Antonio did. She storms off.

-Antonio and Sara exchange terse morning greetings in the parking lot. When she walks to her car, all of Sara’s items fall out of her purse. He tries to help but she says she doesn’t need it. As she drives off, Antonio notices that she forgot her ID. He gets in his car to follow her.

-Pedro finds out he’s going to lose a customer because he going to buy directly from the agricultural association Bruno and Simon started. Pedro sees Bruno and shouts at him for stealing his buyers. Bruno says it a free market and business is business. Pedro tells him they won’t get away with it, and we get a super close stare off between the two.

-Antonio’s dad is talking about his new partnership on the phone. When he hangs up, Emma tells him they should throw a party to celebrate the new partnership. He says no, it wouldn’t be prudent. He further puts his foot down and says he’s going to better protect their money and not spend it on frivolities. Emma not happy.

-Antonio continues to follow Sara, flashing his lights and beeping at her. She sees all this from her mirrors and has no idea what he’s doing. She then sees her uncle the traffic cop, and slams on her brakes in surprise. Antonio rear ends her. They get out and start to argue with Vincente in the middle acting as referee. They have a crowd surrounding them enjoying the free show. Shots are fired from both Antonio and Sara. She says he shouldn’t have been following so close. How was she to know he was trying to get her attention? She thought he was just testing his lights. He says that her car should have all working parts like the brake lights. Argue, Argue, Argue. Antonio taunts her to call her insurance, something he knows she doesn’t have. In the end, Antonio calls Fidel, who he seems to have him on speed dial by now, to come resolve the issue since they can’t come to an agreement.

jlk

Excelente, jlk!

Woo hoo! Thank you, jlk :D I got a lot of laughs out of the recap. My favorite bit was actually your response to Rick's, um, "excitement" about sneaking around--"Gag me." 'Cause, really, those two words speak volumes. He was really laying it on thick.

"Someone better knock on wood for her." If I could find two trees to knock together, I would. This does sound very worrisome, between having bank loan payments, payments to Pedro, and money to keep the restaurant going, like you said. At least she's not also having to pay rent, I guess.

I'm leaning more towards Antonio's dad being a good guy. I'm still on the fence about Isa's dad.

Thanks, jlk! What a wonderful morning read! I love how you made this line: "He’s just the best brother a girl can ask for." Drip with sarcasm...visually. How did you do this? ;-)

I have to concur with Diva. "Gag me" really does speak volumes. I need to incorporate it back into my vocabulary again.

I haven't actually seen the episode, but I am concerned about Sara. She seems to be getting in too deep. She's good at the restaurant and she seemed to have a head for business, but maybe she's letting her excitement cloud her judgement.

jlk- Brilliant job on this recap. ITA, that Sara getting so deep into debt is worrying, especially when Pedro, Cheo, and Juancho are all likely to work against her.

I so want Isa to get caught. I hope Bruno and Javi snoop.

Thanks again, jlk. Totally fun read.

I'm wondering if the "bromance" btw Juancho and Cheo is over.

Denise, I guess so, if Cheo doesn't start getting serious about work and making some $$$$ to bribe him with.

He's pretty enterprising. My brother always ratted me out for free. :p

Thank ya'll for all the super kind words!!

I think Pedro's offer was just so he can possibly later on have the option to use it against Sara & put her in a bind. He knows she might be a weak spot for Antonio. For me what adds to Pedro's scary demeanor is that he seems so cold hearted and stone faced. I doubt even crying orphans holding kittens would move him unless he got something out of it.

My fav scene was probably having Padre Vicente try to give directions in english/spanish to that english-speaking tourist. What a random moment but found it hilarious. You could later see that tourist in the crowd surrounding Sara & Antonio during their car accident spat recording the whole thing. Youtube anyone?

Diva, I also think that Antonio's dad is an above-the-table type of guy. It stinks that this new business partnership will probably bind Antonio&Isabel even more.

jlk

jlk, and we've already seen how Pedro twists contract terms to his advantage with the farmers. I don't even want to think about how he'll do that with Sara.

"orphans holding kittens"

HAHAHAHA!

La Vecina #41 Tu 8/18/15 Part 1 of 6

Ricardo gets to Antonio's office and Marina has him sign the disciplinary report for the security guard's alter-ego before showing him to the conference room where he can work while he wants for Antonio.

Fidel arrives at the intersection and listens to Antonio and Sara blame each other for the accident. Padre Vicente admits he didn't actually see what happened. Fidel collects license and registration (?) info from both Antonio and Sara and sees a veritable avalanche of traffic tickets fall out of Sara's glove compartment. Antonio tries to get her out of trouble and gets accused by Sara and Padre Vicente of trying to bribe Fidel! Antonio gives up and leaves Sara to deal with her own mess.

Rafa has noticed that Antonio is missing, but hesitates to call him since the reason "always" ends up having something to do with "La Vecina."

Sara's still steamed when she gets to El Molcajete…and then she finds out that her one-and-only server already got himself a job somewhere else. He thought the place was closing and he couldn't wait around to see if Sara's negotiations work out.

Antonio visits Fidel's office, where Fidel explains he's just trying to teach Sara a lesson about driving with so many tickets, no seatbelt, and no brake lights. He accepts Antonio's offer to pay all the fines and take Sara's car. "No cabe duda que los mujeres mueven al mundo," he muses. (There's no doubt women make the world go 'round.)

Bruno tells Simon that the crops only filled 1/3 of the truck, but Arnolfo's cousin made a bigger profit than last year. That's what happens when they're not being bilked. Bruno tells Simon about the trouble with Pedro and brushes it off with "Perro que ladra no muerde." (A dog that barks doesn't bite; his bark is worse than his bite.)

La Vecina #41 Tu 8/18/15 Part 2 of 6

Oh, Pedro's barking all right! Telling that farmer who owed him money that he's sending his guys over to take his crops! Carmelo wanders in, having already heard about the "incident." Pedro isn't willing to escalate things, because he thinks all eyes are on him right now. He angrily reminds Carmelo that HE got him into this business and HE's the one who is laundering all Carmelo's money from stealing the gasoline from the ducts. Pedro turns down Carmelo's offer of "help" to stop Simon and Bruno.

Antonio takes Sara's car to El Molcajete and leaves a note. Sara and the server hear the horn and find it outside. The note reads "I'm sorry I called your car a piece of junk. I carry it in my heart like so many other things that are close to you."

Marina and I both give Ric the same look when he demands she make him two copies of I don't even care what. And no "please" either. Antonio arrives and plays along with Marina's earlier excuse--that he was meeting with the "presidente municipal" (mayor?)--then summons her to his office to thank her for having his back. Yeah, she's noticed Ric's 'tude. Antonio warns her to be careful, Ric would love the chance to "ponerme un cuatro" (set him up to catch him in a lie). No problem--they'll ALL close ranks around him. Sara texts him to thank him for returning her "carcacha" (clunker).

Rafa has some stuff he needs Antonio to review…Antonio insists they do that now. If they run late, they can order lunch. This is the perfect excuse (my interpretation) to cancel lunch with Isabel. Quique, unfortunately, is also getting stood up and knows Rafa's going to be working with Antonio. Quique feels like Antonio is taking his place. OK, I get why Antonio doesn't care about canceling on Isa, but what's Rafa's excuse? Does he have a crush on Antonio and he's not admitting it to himself? (Really, who could blame him!) Is he just tired of Quique's jealousy and subconsciously wants Quique to break up with him? Is he just really trying to be good at his job?

La Vecina #41 Tu 8/18/15 Part 3 of 6

Isa texts Ricardo about lunch and he gloats like she suggested a nooner. He returns her call and picks his teeth with the extra-long fingernail on his pinky, spitting out whatever he picked out. I'm not sure which part of that was the grossest. They agree to meet at "Las Margaritas" where presumably they won't be disturbed.

Rafa brings several large binders into Antonio's office and tries to ignore repeated calls from Quique, but accidentally puts him on speaker. Quique yells at him and Rafa makes the "my cousin" excuse again. Dude, you're going to end up introducing him to everyone eventually and that whole "my annoying cousin who wants to borrow money" thing is going to come back to bite you!

Just after Isa arrives at Las Margaritas, Pedro's driver stops the SUV right in front, thinking it's driving funny. Pedro goes inside to get himself a drink and gets an eyeful of Ricardo and Isa eating each other's faces. Not sure if he knows who Isa is. Ric suggests he and Isa adjourn to a "cabaña" (cabin). Ever-watchful Pedro finishes his whiskey and heads outside. Where his driver is having a frustrating phone call to the mechanic. Pedro leaves Anselmo to watch for an engineer in "a grey suit" (oh, I'm sure there's no way THAT can go wrong) and takes off with the driver to get a taxi and head to El Molcajete.

Cabin. Isa. Ricardo. Face eating. Bed. So I guess Ric was right about the nooner.

Antonio tells Marina about the little accident and asks her to have Pepe take his car to the garage. Gutierrez comes looking for Ricardo so he can test the programming of one of the injectors (don't take my word for it). Marina will have to find him. Antonio would like to see the test, too.

Cabin. Isa. Ricardo. Bed. Post-nookie. Phone. Gutierrez will wait for Ricardo before he runs the test. Must have been good for Isa--she's not complaining about CONATROL pulling a man away from her again.

La Vecina #41 Tu 8/18/15 Part 4 of 6

Padre Vicente is getting tired from standing at his post all day. He tries some stretching and gets a tip from a passerby. Sara brings him some lunch, he tells her to stay away from Antonio, he kisses her on the cheek. And the ENTIRE time some nosy woman is taking video on her phone.

Pedro's SUV is fixed. I could tell you what was wrong, but I don't speak "car." Anselmo sees Ricardo conveniently leaving at the same time and follows his taxi.

Nosy neighborhood lady took her video to Fidel. He explains that the young lady is Vicente's NIECE and this isn't what she thinks. He dismisses her complaint AND her, and she is not happy about it. He calls Quintin in to have a laugh over it and says he'll let the Padre off the hook on Friday, but first…that nosy lady gave him an idea .

Anselmo calls Pedro at the restaurant to report Ric's movements. Pedro wants him followed. If he's got a weak spot for the ladies, Pedro can use that to his advantage. Pedro is waiting to talk to Sara, but he gets a call from "Isidro" who wants to meet at the usual spot, tonight. Sara is going to hand over her severance pay from the last job as a down-payment while she's waiting for the loan money. [Insert face of frightened recapper here!]

Antonio tries to rib Ric about being late. Ric says anyone would lose track of time, as attentive as Sara at El Molcajete is. *cough*juniorhigh*cough*

Bruno and Javi see a verrrrrry happy Isabel sauntering back to the apartment. Oh, they can tell she's ahem, having her needs met--and not by Antonio! She even smiled at them! They discuss telling Sara, but decide it's really not her business.

CONATROL. Test. Adjustment needed. The dye hasn't made it through customs yet. Isa texts Ric and he can't resist walking away to call her with Antonio standing right there.

La Vecina #41 Tu 8/18/15 Part 5 of 6

Sara calls Meche to give her the "good" news about Pedro, the money, and the contract they're signing tomorrow. [Nooooooooo! Don't do it!]

Padre Vicente, still on duty, gesticulates wildly as he talks to someone about fútbol practice. Quintin and Fidel are hiding around a corner recording some video of their own and laughing.

Quique sneaks into CONATROL while the security guy is fixing the camera. Rafa and Antonio are still working. Ric leaves after confirming that Antonio won't be there much later. Antonio will have his guards give him a ride home. Rafa leaves the office and Antonio tries to call Isa, but gets…a busy signal? Princess doesn't have call waiting? Or voicemail? She's getting the warning from Ric that Antonio is heading home soon. They talk about meeting tomorrow. Antonio gets through and invites Isa out for dinner.

Rafa finds Quique in the back seat of his truck. Not cool, dude. Rafa makes him hide when Pepe and Nelson come over to see if he wants to have dinner with them. They even offer to help with the "paperwork" he's rushing home to finish, but Rafa turns them down. Quique does not like Rafa's "my personal life is personal" attitude, but that's too bad--he knew that's what it would be like when they started dating. Quique's just going to have to hide in the back until they're out of the parking lot. And then Rafa will take him to dinner. Quique tries to joke about dinner being tacos with Pepe and Nelson. I don't catch his second joke about having some other kind of food with some other pair of people, but Rafa does not seem amused. What are the chances Rafa comes out to his coworkers before this whole situation explodes in his face? I don't think I really want to see Quique cry!

Sara sees Antonio outside the apartment building and thanks him for getting her car back to her. They mildly argue about whose fault the accident was, then give up and give each other sexy longing looks until Sara breaks away to walk inside. Sara thought bubbles: "He looks so handsome! I want to hug him so much!" Antonio thought bubbles: "She's so beautiful! I want to hug her so much!"

La Vecina #41 Tu 8/18/15 Part 6 of 6

Pedro instructs his lawyer to draw up a contract with a lot of fine print. He's selling the restaurant to her for 300K, she's going to give him 60K down, 150K when the bank gives her a loan, and the rest will be paid monthly. There's a 25% a month penalty for late payments. Plus a rental contract for 12K a month with the same late payment penalty. [Insert face of frightened recapper + 300K units of additional fear + 25% penalty here!]

Isa tells Antonio that his mom called and told her about the partnership between their dads. Sara sees Isa fondling his face from the balcony and heads inside. Isa is grouchy that because of Antonio's accident, they're going out with his bodyguards. She barely cares about the accident itself.

Sara rereads the note Antonio left on her car.

Fidel applies some editing skills to the video of Padre Vicente and uploads it to the 'net with the title "Priest, traffic officer, and acrobat."

Antonio brings Isa to the restaurant at Ricardo's hotel. She runs off to the bathroom.

Sara calls Pedro to get his info so she can transfer the money to him directly, but he wants a cashier's check. She giddily gives Simon her news and he's just as happy as she is. He agrees to come with her to sign the contract. [Insert face of probably irrationally hopeful recapper here.]

Isa calls Ricardo from the bathroom to warn him not to come down to the restaurant. So of course, he puts on his jacket to head downstairs, heh! Isa, feeling confident that Ric won't appear, saunters back to their table and approves Antonio's appetizer and wine selections. Pedro shows up at the same restaurant and remembers seeing Isa earlier. He greets Antonio, I'm thinking mostly so he can be introduced to Isa and get her name.

End of Tuesday's recap

Oh, heck, that should have been "waits for Antonio" in Part 1!

Super recap, Diva! I laughed every time you wrote an "insert recapper's face".

Wow! Thanks for the super duper recap, Kat. I needed it because I didn't get to see yesterday's episode, and may be falling behind on the show this week.

I'm surprised Isa went ahead and did the deed with Ric. I thought they'd dance around that for a while, and he'd have to at least show her his fake mansion first.

I think it's funny that he thinks she's totally bought that he's some high class dude from money, when he has these habits that give him away-- the obnoxious gum chewing, the teeth picking at the table, and now the long pinky finger nail that he also uses as a pick. She's even mentioned the toothpick thing to Natalia.

Each episode I feel worse and worse about this debt situation Sara is getting herself (and her mother) into. I know I wanted her to get the restaurant, but not like this.

Thank you, Denise and Vivi!

Lol, Denise, I'm glad that's actually funny...I figure everyone else is probably making the same faces, so you know what I'm talking about!

Vivi, Wasn't Ric saying he didn't want to have sex until they were actually going to be together forever? So much for that! Though now I'm thinking they're both going to make excuses to stay in San Gaspar for the sneaking around potential. That could get tiresome.

If it weren't Pedro, I'd think Sara could actually pull this off.

Thanks Diva for your always entertaining recap!

Sara really has it bad for Antonio. Just wish he would wake up and realize what he could have with Sara. I am of course expecting that he will eventually break it off with Isabel but I really really hope he does it BEFORE he finds out she's cheating with Rick. I want it to be a purposeful decision & where he realizes that he doesn't want to be with Isabel but with Sara, and not use the cheating as an excuse to break off a relationship he's not into anymore to not feel guilty or responsible.

I loved your "insert recapper's face here" as well! & tks for getting all the money details, I usually just glaze over those things & just listen enough to get the idea. 25% penalty fee?? Hmmm.....

jlk

Thank you, jlk! I hadn't thought about it, but I agree with you--I don't want this to be about Antonio dumping Isa because he finds out she cheated. Sara deserves better.

I've been sneaking over to my desk all day in between my lessons to read this. It's the 5th day of school and my students think I'm a lunatic because I kept looking at my computer and laughing like a maniac. I think they're scared. Yaassss! Reputation as crazy teacher you don't mess with is sealed!

Totally loved the recapper faces.

All of that to say thank you and it was hilarious.

Lol, thank you, Sara! I'm glad I could help you establish your rep :p

Sara, remember - they can smell fear. Ha ha.
(I start teaching next week.)

OOO! Start teaching as in "first year ever" or "school starts next week"?

What do you teach? Have you mentioned it before and my mind like a steel sieve has forgotten?

This is my 21st year teaching. I can't imagine myself doing anything else. It's a great job.

Thanks jlk & Diva for the recaps,
Recaps - they really help when I'm watching the show and all of a sudden I hear a crash from the kitchen as of a stack of pans 10 ft high falling over (even though my kitchen contains no such thing ) and run to see what it is and miss crucial parts of the show.

Also they are entertaining, thanks you guys again

I'm pretty sure I too have long since cemented my reputation as the crazy lady at the library and at work reading recaps and laughing.

Librarians are the best!!! They are the most fun people on the faculty :-)

PS: What was the crash?

PPS: I'm working on the highlights now. I'm stupidly trying to write it and pay attention to Sombra at the same time.

I'm up there in the 20 yr range too. I teach Spanish - it's the only thing I know!
Sometimes I assign telenovelas to my students and I have started recommending frequenting ¡Caray, Caray! too.

SQUEEEEEEEEEEE!!! Spanish teachers in da house!!! I use Telenovelas all.the.time! And I recommend Caray as well. Are you at the college level or high school?

I had so many students coming up to me last week (our first week) and they were over the moon because Netflix now has TNs.

(Feel free to email me if you want some TN activities. I'd love to hear what you do, too. Mine are super basic.)

Sara - High school during the day and Community College two nights a week. When my high school students ask me what I teach at the college, I always tell them,"nuclear physics"! Ha ha ha.

That's hilarious!

Wednesday 8/19 Highlights
Very brief. Very skeletal. Fill in as needed.

I think I shall start with Padre Vicente. He was sort of the alpha and omega of the epsiode.

So Fidel has rather childishly uploaded a video of Padre Vicente, Traffic Cop to YouVideoo. It gets tons of hits in a short period of time. The comments are positive. He’s great! He’s my hero! He’s a great example for the police!

This creates more traffic on his corner. Car after car drives by to wave, cheer and take pictures. Unfortunately, there’s an accident. One of the men involved does not want to move his car. This hold up all the traffic….including the SUV with the woman in labor. Padre Vicente has to deliver the baby as well.

It doesn’t take long for someone to tell the obispo about the video. The obispo heads straight to San Gaspar. Hearing that Padre was directing traffic because he lost a bet does not please the obispo. He is relocating Padre V to San Dionisio de las Peñas….ahora mismo. He doesn’t even let Padre V tell anyone!...At least not until the end of the episode and that felt a little more like a kidnapping. “Here’s the phone tell someone where you are. Padre V can’t get in touch with anyone.

Let’s move on to Sara. Cheo comes to San Gaspar and he ends up going with Sara to sign the contracts with Pedro. To Cheo’s credit, he wants to go over the fine print. He even balks at how high the rent is. Sara is just so excited, though, and she dismisses it. So the contracts get signed and I am crushed. This is not good.

After the contracts get signed Cheo pulls a muscle jumping to conclusions. He and Sara should think about finding a place to live in San Gaspar. Sara talks him down. They are just rekindling their relationship. All she can think of right now is the business.

Isa and Ric continue to enjoy each other’s carnal company. How nice of Pedro to have Anselmo follow Ric. Anselmo takes some incriminating photos of Ric and Isa. This comes in handy for blackmailing Ric. But did Pedro really need the pictures? I bet all Pedro really had to do was wave a stack of cash in front of Ric and Ric would have been all in. Ric agrees to help Pedro, but he refuses to be a common mole. He wants 10% of what they take. There are lines about the pressure sensors and dye. Most of all, Pedro wants to stop the dye project.

Simon and Simon had lines about the farm business. I’m pretty sure they are dreaming big...which is great, but I have this sinking feeling. Simon wants to go ahead and pay off the truck? Meh. I know I should pay closer attention to business talk.

Magda and Edwina mention the video to Fidel. He’s pretty proud of himself for uploading it. They are not so happy. He’s gonna catch hell when new of Padre V’s departure gets out.

Isa and Ric are both returning to the DF.

Hahaha! Thank you, sneaky two shoes! I'm curious too, what was the crash sound? I hope it was nothing serious!

I love that, Denise...by day Spanish teacher, by night "nuclear physicist" :P It could be a telenovela....

Sara, thank you for the recap! I was so sad for Padre Vicente today :( The traffic accident and delivering the baby in the back of the car was so over-the-top, but funny. And then the Bishop got all cranky :( Apparently he didn't read the comments.

"So the contracts get signed and I am crushed. This is not good." I was right there with you. And Pedro with his "It's standard." Dude, not even my student loan has that harsh a penalty for late payment.

"But did Pedro really need the pictures?" Probably not, but Anselmo has a bright future in boudoir photography. Although...those two, Isa and Ric, they're not pretty kissers. And slowing it down makes it worse. (It might be her...she didn't look much better kissing Antonio.)

"Simon wants to go ahead and pay off the truck?" Yeah, that was pretty much it. They were talking about being able to find the best place to sell whatever it is they grow (have they ever told us?) and make enough to pay off the truck loan quickly and then basically live off the profits of driving the other farmers' crops to wherever. I can't decide whether this is a good idea or not.

I hope ultimately that the video and the comments are what get Padre Vicente back to San Gaspar, 'cause otherwise it's going to be awfully chilly in Fidel's house!

Thanks for the super recap, Sara! Just watched the episode. I continue to become more worried for Sara, but her excitement this episode was infectious. I also got my hopes up that Cheo would be useful with the fine print, but alas!

Thursday 8/20 Highlights Parte 1
You know the drill. It’s very brief. Very skeletal. Fill in as needed.

Padre V
He is finally able to get in touch with someone-Fidel. Fidel rushes over to the state capital to clear things up with the obispo.

While he’s gone, Bruno and Javi (and a third guy) pull one of their pranks. Unfortunately, it’s Edwina that gets hit with the cold water, bucket and flour. I am amazed and Magda’s self control in not killing the boys.

Fidel tries to clear things up with the obispo, but he gets no where. The obispo is concerned that Padre V has too many worldly interests. Fidel pleads. Padre V does so many things for the community! He’s organized a bazaar to bring in doctors. The obispo is unmoved.

Fidel has to call Sara and give her the bad news. She heads to the capital with Bruno and Simon. It is a sad goodbye. The Padre blesses Fidel as he is driven away to San Dionisio de las Peñas.

What a dismal place SDdlP is! It looks like Padre’s living quarters haven’t been cleaned in ages. He goes to look for a store where he can buy a broom and cleaning supplies. It’s foggy. And creepy. And the appearance of Atila the angry looking child doesn’t help. Neither does the appearance of the monotone Cigala, Atila’s mother. Well, at least they are helpful. She and the Padre clean his living area. She tells him that the winters are terrible…”para cala los huesos”(it seeps into your bones.) She also informs him that the other priest got a cough and died of pulmonía (pneumonia) years ago. Later that evening she sends her ax-wielding husband to deliver a pillow and blankets. I think his name was Lazlo? Anyhoo, he warns Padre Vicente about the animals that come down from the mountains. They aren’t sure exactly what it is, but they’ve found carved up sheep before.

Padre does not get a good night’s sleep.

Fidel
When he finally returns home from trying to help Padre V, Magda gives him hell. He asks her to stop. He already feels bad enough. He’s going to always remember the image of the Padre’s face as he blessed him.

The next day, Fidel even talks to a card with the image of San Judas (The Patron Saint of Lost Causes...am I remembering correctly?) His “conversation” is interrupted by Quintin. There’s a couple that wants to see the traffic cop priest.

It’s the couple whose baby Padre V delivered. They want him to be the padrino at the child’s baptism. After they leave Fidel thanks his San Judas Card.

I vaguely remember he goes to see the obispo again with a letter...or he plans to. I’m too lazy to actually go back and look :-/

Thursday Parte 2

Ricardo
He comes to talk to Antonio about the pipelines and dye projects. Meh. Business talk. You know I glazed over, right?

He dutifully reports information to Pedro...including the information that Antonio has decided not to have guards anymore.

Antonio
He decides he doesn’t want the guards any more.

Marina and Rafa disagree with this decision.

Sara
Samuel is still leaving as waiter. He can’t recommend anyone though. He suggests she place a want ad in the paper. She calls the paper.

Sara tells Rodobaldo the Sacristan about Padre V’s departure. Rodo is sure the parish won’t be the same without Padre V. They wonder who will replace the Padre. I do, too. New character?

Sara later has a plan. She tells Rodo to make a bunch of posters and gather the faithful. They can all go to the obispo and stage a peaceful protest.

At the airport
What a surprise! Isa and Ric are *both* on the 5 o’clock flight to the DF. Isa says goodbye to Antonio. He’s going to be in the DF again soon for some reason I forgot (sign papers for his dad?) They can take advantage of that time to make wedding plans.

In the waiting area, Ric asks Isa about her continuing plans to marry Antonio. She blows it off and asks for a kiss. Yah, she’s an ugly kisser. After the kiss they thought bubble:

Ric: She’s totally using me.
Isa: Dude thinks I’m going to leave Antonio for him? As if.

The crash was my own fault - I'd balanced a pan lid on an empty water bottle and forgot about it and when the wind blew the bottle over the lid fell and hit another empty bottle, glass this time, and broke it, nothing serious, just a mess- why do I have so many empty bottles? Because I got used to not drinking tap water and now I can't take the taste- which is probably why I noticed so much the bit about the tap water in San Gaspar.

I was so hoping Simon would go with Sara and help her with the loan agreement, he probably would have had more success than Cheo getting Sara to be more careful about the fine print - stupid Cheo always around when he's not wanted (yeah I'm just taking it out on him cause I'm worried about Sara and that loan)

That's impressive! I have trouble balancing a pan lid on a countertop ;-)

My husband and I had to get a filter for our tap. I used to be ok with it, but I stared hating the taste of it.

Bless you sara I only had half a recap, my tv system chose today to quit on me - I've got it all worked out now but I missed most of the second half of the show and at least one scene in the first half and can't find it on the internet (where I don't have to give them all my info, that is)

I apologize

And thank you, I was angsting over what to say - the one time I commit to something it goes all wrong

Don't worry! I think I screwed up. I thought I was doing this week. :-(

I apologize to you. Let me know when you want to do a recap. The more the merrier, right?

I guess some folks would find today's episode ridiculous, but I loved it.

I wonder what connection Lucero Suarez has with the cast of Familia P Luche. Gutierrez is on that show and now Cigala (another P. Luche castmember.)

I feel really bad now for criticizing Padre Vicente priesting skills - even I'm not as much of a hard a@@ as the bishop

And poor Edwina sneezing after getting hit by that cold water - I bet Simon will have something to say to Bruno about dumping water and flour on his "only a friend"

The obispo is really being harsh! I'm not Catholic and I feel guilty for saying it though.

Ha! Simon's "only a friend."

I have to admit though I liked what I saw of this new town - and by liked I mean laughing so hard I missed dialogue. The kid and the mom were just priceless - that monotone, and just the way she has no expression, no emoting. I could stand to see more of them I hope the Padre isn't rescued too soon

No worries Sara - I can try again next Thursday - even though I cringe even typing that, expecting another pie cart. Its like when the character in a show says 'what else could go wrong' and we all know that now it'll be something.

Hi you guys! And thank you, Sara! Like I said, you're the glue that holds us together!

I know what you mean, Sneaky. It's my turn to recap tomorrow, and I'm stressing that something will go wrong - just because I've made a commitment, you know.

I loved el Padre in San Dionisio. Wow, they really need him. Now I'm afraid he'll be called back to San Gaspar too soon.

Fidel showed some character when he confessed his "trampa", right? I was impressed with him.

Aw, thanks Denise.

And no one should ever worry about technical difficulties. Stuff happens.

Glad I'm not the only one who really enjoyed the creepy turn Padre V's story has taken. Am I wrong to want him to stay there for a little while longer?

Fidel is definitely having a turn around. I wonder if they are aiming to have him become a "believer" by the end?

Sara- Thanks so much for doing double duty yesterday with two great recaps. I haven't seen this episode yet, but it sounds like a hoot. Can't wait to see the new creepy characters in Padre's new parish.

Good riddance to Isa and Ric!

Padre's story was really funny. The kid playing Atila is really creepy looking and has a future in horror movies.

La Vecina, Friday, 8/21 Part 1

In San Dionisio The Grim Reaper, alias Lazlo, comes to check on el Padre V. and scares the –bleep- out of the Padre.

Fidel has just shown the “obispo” (lit. bishop) the heartfelt letter of gratitude from the couple whose baby el Padre V. delivered. The obispo is impressed and comments that there is no doubt that el Padre is a man of God, but he must also learn to reject the things of this world.

Isabela and Ricardo arrive at her apartment and retire to the boudoir to make hot, passionate love after determining that Natalia would not interrupt them, since she doesn’t know that Isa is in town yet.

El obispo discusses the Padre V. situation with his assistant. (Is he a sacristán?) The assistant guy doesn’t believe that el Padre’s sentence should be commuted, but the obispo says he’s going to go talk to el Padre to see if he will promise to behave more appropriately.

Outside a pretty good crowd has gathered, led by Sara, Bruno, and Simón, in a “manifestación” (demonstration) chanting “We love el Padre Vicente, and we want him back!” (rough trans.) As the obispo tries to explain to the group his reasoning and intentions, a “malora” (thug) literally waters down the message of the group by throwing first a water balloon and then a firecracker at the pair.

When el Padre V. opens his eyes, Zigala seems to be checking his breathing, and this scares the –bleep- out of the Padre. We have a theme here. She was just checking to see if he was dead since he wasn’t moving. They discuss getting him a better mattress.

Back at the manifestación, the crowd is informed that any chance of the Padre’s being pardoned is out the window because of their “bad attitude.” Someone in the croud spots the bad actors and the crowd chases after them.

In the D.F., Ric reports back to Ing. Uribe, uncharacteristically speaking words of high praise about Antonio and the excellent job that he is doing.

In San Gaspar, Anto receives a call from Sebastián. Technical talk – schematics, duct modifications etc. Some things Sebas is keeping on the down low, others have to be shared with the dept. of engineering. He asks about how things are going with Isabel, and then he takes his leave, calling Antonio “güerito chulo” (pretty white boy).

Fidel checks back with the obispo, who tells him that el Padre’s release from his “not-a-punishment” is a no-go.

At El Molcajete Sara arrives to find a loooong line of applicants for the job she posted. Sara is thrilled even though one person tells her to “get in the back of the line.” Sara beams as she tells the person that she is not an applicant - she’s the “dueña” (owner)!

Denise - I hate to interrupt your recap (I'm enjoying part 1) but if I don't comment now I won't get a chance

I just gotta say I really liked yesterday when Padre V. forgave Fidel as a priest and then just as a man socked him - it made me feel better too

I like this show so much- it consistently makes me smile

La Vecina, Friday Part Deux

Sebas meets up with Natalia for lunch, late as usual. He mentions that Isa got home last night. Natalia says, “What the heck?” and dials Isa’s number. Isa makes an excuse and after hanging up, tells Ric that sometimes Nat. acts like she’s her Mom. Ric wants to repeat the activities of the night before. Isa says okay, but this time we’ll go to your place! Ric’s face says, “Doh!”.

Sara interviews a woman named Rosa. She’s the same person who told Sara to get at the back of the line. Bueno, Rosa starts by telling a bunch of fabricated stories about a husband who left her with three little children etc. Sara calls her on this, but then offers her the job anyway, because she, Sara, knows what it is to look for work in a desperate situation.

Lazlo and Zigala knock on el Padre’s door, telling him that Atila must be lost in the woods b/c he hasn’t come home. The three make torches and set out to look for him. El Padre’s torch goes out and he freaks b/c he thinks he sees the glowing eyes of the wild animals that L. and Z. are always talking about. It is just L. and Z. themselves with flashlights. They all see flashing lights. L. and Z. take off fearing “marcianos” (martians). It’s Fidel! El Padre is ecstatic.

Isa tells Ric that she threw Natalia off the scent, so where exactly is his house. Ric says his cousin popped in, so they should meet at a hotel. How about the one on the road to Cuernavaca?

Vicente is holding some “hierbas” up against a wound on his forehead while Fidel explains all about the situation with the obispo and the manifestación. Fidel suggests they break out the wine he brought since the conversation is going to be a long one.

Insert obligatory “I love you but I can’t have you” Antonio and Sara scene here.

Fidel and el Padre continue conversing. Vicente says he may get together a “fut” team there in San Dionisio. They joke about playing a game with the Artilleros – but no oranges allowed, eh? Fidel gets up to take his leave, and in a gesture more touching than between any of the lovers so far, embraces el Padre.

Sara tells her mirror-self to stop thinking about Antonio and what he might have meant when he said that Isabel had returned to the D.F.. Cheo calls. Sara brings him up to date on, well, you know. He schmoozes.

Anto dials Isa’s number. Voicemail. He turns on the tele. A soap. The protagonists are so in love, but they can’t be together. Hey, Sara is watching the same soap. She thinks of Antonio. As Antonio watches, suddenly he and Sara have become the protagonists. They kiss so pretty. Ahem... I need a moment here.

La Vecina, Friday Part 3

A montage: Sara and Rosa in El Molcajete, Antonio in his office, “fut” practice, Isa and Ric doing their own sport, Anto/Sara/Cheo co-existing, Anto at work, Anto annoyed and jealous seeing Sara and friends partying, Ric happily surveying his piles of cash, Bruno’s “camión”(truck), el Padre teaching the stone-faced Dionisianos to play “fut,” Simón and his just-a-friend working on the rocket,
Fidel and Vicente enjoying vino and their friendship and Sara and Antonio glancing longingly at each other across the balconies.

Un mes después (a month later):

Anto summons Rafa. Good news. The dye job is a go. Anto is going to “México” (el D.F.) on a personal matter. Rafa will be in charge.

Cheo calls Sara. How is she? Worried. Time to pay rent and also the loan payment. She just barely has enough. ( Got a creepy, worried feeling here.) Cheo barely hears her. He’s going to come into town to cheer her up – over her protests. He is holding an engagement ring. Uh oh.

Anto interrupts Isa’s fantasizing about her love interludes to tell her he is arriving at five. She’ll pick him up at the airport. When she informs Ric, he is visibly annoyed.

Rosa wonders why Sara is so curt with Cheo. He crowds her, she explains.
Pedro enters the restaurant. Sara asks if he prefers cash or that she deposit it in his account. Cash, please. (Uh oh again.) How’s bidness? So-so. Pedro, and later Rosa, recommends she get that “convenio” going again with Conatrol, but Sara doesn’t want to owe Antonio anything.

Ric is his rude self to the secretary who brings him some docs. (I’m forgetting her name.) David enters and notes that Ric is in a bad, bad mood. And where did he, Ric, get that watch? It’s a gift from Mom.

Cheo completes a sale and then asks that Roque “le haga un paro” (cover for him). Tonight he asks Sara to marry him. He and Roque make plans to go into business together.

Fidel arrives at Vicente’s door and finds the latter sweeping. “Looks like you need a sacristán, Padre.” “The position is open.” “Uh, no, I’ll pass.”
Vicente asks about his family and Los Alados. Fidel says the family’s good, but the Alados really need him.

Ric has another little tantrum directed at the secretary.

Juancho finishes helping his mom with the laundry, and now he wants to go out to play. Mom says he should study ‘cause his grades are nada buenas.
Cheo arrives and tells Merce and Juancho about his plans with Sara. Could Merce prepare a small celebration at Simón’s for that night. Merce is overcome with emotion, and Juancho sweetly hugs his mom.

¡Ya!

No prob, Sneaky!

Woo hoo! I'm caught up!

Sara, thank you for Thursday's recap :D

"What a dismal place SDdlP is!" It's like we got dropped into the middle of a gothic novel all of a sudden. Bring on the werewolves and vampires, I guess! I was laughing the entire time--in a good way.

"He comes to talk to Antonio about the pipelines and dye projects. Meh. Business talk. You know I glazed over, right?" Eh, it'll come up again if it's important. I didn't really pay attention becausee I was thinking "Wow, they sound really natural spouting all that technical jargon."

"Yah, she’s an ugly kisser." Told you.

Aw, sneaky two shoes, I hear ya on that...breaking glass is a pain to make sure you get every little bit and I'm always barefoot in the house. I'm glad it wasn't something more serious!

I always like to remind people, when something goes wrong with doing a recap--I had my DVR crap out on me for the premiere of Soy Tu Duena. I didn't even get to watch it myself! I was totally embarrassed, but everybody pitched in what they remembered and we survived. That's the beauty of the Caray community :) Whatever happens, we'll work it out.

Denise and Sara, I'm ambivalent as well about Padre Vicente. I want him to come back to San Gaspar, but somehow not leave San Dionisio either. I guess I can't have it both ways, huh?

Denise, thank you for the Friday recap!

"The Grim Reaper, alias Lazlo" I'm laughing again just reading that. My husband was asking "Why is that guy carrying an axe around?" Dude, juuuuust go with it. Some questions are unanswerable.

Fidel was so close with the letter! And then those jerks in the crowd screwed it up. Boo!

"and then he takes his leave, calling Antonio 'güerito chulo'" The way Sebastian and Antonio talk to each other cracks me up. They're totally professional when it comes to business and then they say stuff like that to each other.

Rosa and Sara are going to make a good team, I think. They seem a lot alike--the little mishaps, the attitude.

"Insert obligatory “I love you but I can’t have you” Antonio and Sara scene here." It's like we get one of these at the end of every work day. I'm not saying I mind exactly. The two of them can just stare at each other for the whole hour for all I care. It's just odd. And she runs a restaurant, so either she's getting home too early or he's getting home too late. The two of them watching the same telenovela and imagining themselves as the protagonists was so cute!

Woo hoo! More rocket action! Every time I read "just a friend" I think of that Biz Markie song.

I love that Fidel keeps visiting the Padre and bringing wine. I'm sure the guy who brings the truck around on Sundays doesn't sell wine.

"Merce is overcome with emotion, and Juancho sweetly hugs his mom." Uh oh. Nothing that makes Juancho that happy can be good.

Denise- Stellar recap! Made me laugh all over again at Padre's adventures in his new town.

Him trying to teach soccer, as his new amigos just stand there like zombies gave me a good chuckle. Poor Padre. I love that he and Fidel have become such great friends over the month.

Glad that Sara at least had enough to break even with her debts, despite saying business has been so so. That's Actually pretty good in the restaurant business when you're just getting started, but she does need to find a way to get more consistent clientele, and if Conatrol is the key to that, then she needs to swallow her pride.

I wonder if Pedro giving her his bank account number so she can direct deposit will come into play later? They seemed to make a point of letting the audience know.

I wonder how Laura is?

A full month, and stacks of dirty cash, and Ric still hasn't found a suitable apartment/house to rent that will impress Isa?

Diva and Vivi - Thanks so much. Es un gusto.

Hmmm. That's right. We didn't see Laura in this episode. I wonder how she's doing, and I wonder if the adult literacy program will ever happen.

So many ominous elements going on: Sara's precarious situation, Antonio's dismissing his "escoltas", Juancho's undermining behavior.

I'm really becoming attached to so many characters here - even bratty Juancho.

That's Lucero Suarez for you. She is so good at assembling a cast of actors who really seem to inhabit the roles and the writers make them come to life.

Denise- I am saving your recap as a reward after my morning exercise and grocery trip.

Awwwwwww.

That was delicious, Denise!! I didn't even catch that L and Z were running from "marcianos" so thank you for including that!

"Ahem... I need a moment here."

Right? These two are really so great together. I totally buy them as a couple.

Cheo-That's a beautiful ring, but in that plastic box it kind of screams "cheap".

5ft,Denise,jlk and Vivi Thank you all so, so much for your recaps this week. I appreciate all the help! I'm so glad that we've made it this far!!!

I am enjoying this more that DQTQTQ.

OH! Was Lazlo the same actor that played a doctor on DQTQTQ?

And is Rosa the same woman who played the angry pregnant lady on Amorcito Corazon? Do y'all remember her?

Poor Laura! She must be feeling even more isolated now without the restaurant and with Padre Vicente being gone.

Vivi, I have mixed feelings about the account number. On the one hand, it's better than handing over cash (and did she get a receipt for that, hello!) and there's proof that she paid on time, etc. On the other, it's Pedro's account, and all things Pedro seem a little scary.

Sara, Lazlo does look familiar, but I didn't recognize Rosa.

Thanks Sara & Denise for ya'lls recaps!! I was finally able to catch up this weekend & enjoyed reading them.

It's nice to see a friendship developing between Fidel & Vicente. Diva, it does seem like we totally got dropped into a gothic novel. I wonder how far it is from San Gasper, Fidel seemed to be making often enough trips.

Can't wait to see Cheo's proposal to Sara & what will happen as a result!

jlk

I tried to look it up online, but there are so many cities and towns in Mexico called some variation of "San Gaspar" or "Progreso" that I can't tell how far apart they are, but I definitely didn't see a "San Dionisio." It seems like they're all within a few hours of each other? But then DF is too far to drive, so everyone always flies.

I seem to recall that this takes place in the Yucatan. I've found a Progreso on a map, but not San Gaspar.

Aha! Thanks to Google maps I've found San Gaspar Yucatan and Progreso Yucatan and they are about 4 hours apart. Progreso is on the coast and San Gaspar is more or less in the middle of the state of Yucatan.

I guess that would explain why Cheo isn't there all the time..but wow, that morning he showed up just to go with Sara to sign the contract, and then he was going to drive back to make it to work? Yikes!

Thks guys for the info. I wondered if they were legit towns. 4 hrs apart....doesn't seem far enough from Cheo's clingy self

jlk

It sure doesn't, jlk!

And I can't decide if Cheo is supposed to be the comic relief or if he's going to get dark on us. Or he could fall for Rosa. Anyone to get him away from Sara!

And I want Roque to given a more substantial story than saving Cheo's butt at work.

Housekeeping- any volunteers for the 24th-28th? I won't be able to put anything up until Wednesday. If no one can take a day that's fine. I can put up highlights on Wednesday and Friday. As long as we're chatting I'm a happy camper. I like to talk.

I can take the 24th.

Woo hoo! Thanks, Vivi!

I think I can do Friday again.

Thanks, Denise!

I know I can do Wednesday so if worse comes to worst we'll have a recap Monday, Wednesday and Friday and I'll put up highlights on Tuesday and Thursday.

Y'all are the best!

I can put something up Tuesday

jlk

What's left? Thursday? I can take Thursday :D

Thanks, jlk!!

I love reading ya'll's recaps. You keep saying you're nervous/haven't done it before...but I think you're fibbing. I've seen some mighty fine recapping!

I agree, Sara!
