Yo No Creo En Los Hombres Capitulo 18 Thurs 08/06/2015: Why are the slimy ones so good at their job?

I'm desperately sorry this is so late! Next week I'll be far more timely, I promise! I apologize for the typos and editing too; I'm running on very little sleep and I want people to be able to discuss the eppy.

After Max stupidly admits that he said he wanted to “play” with her, MD doesn’t give him a chance to explain himself and kicks both him and Daniel out. “I’m not some rich boy’s toy!” Max and Leo leave right away, but Daniel lingers to say that Max is on Ivana’s side because they’re friends and he won’t be able to give Maleny all she wants by himself. MD remains firm in telling him to get out, but she still loves him in her head.

Claudio and Isela explore the historic-styled hotel where Isela wants to stage Claudio and Alma’s anniversary. The hotel guide mistakes them for a married couple, but Isela clarifies that she’s his secretary. They explore the gorgeous area and it seems that Isela has set this excursion up as a kind of extended, but innocent “date.” Claudio’s very taken with her as they stroll through the area. After they’ve explored, they’re ready to head back but, oh no! Claudio’s car mysteriously won’t start. While they wait for mechanical help, Isela orders herself a drink. Claudio sticks to coffee. As they’re finally leaving that night, Isela seems to be getting sick from the drinks. Claudio helps her lean against the wall…and then keeps leaning in, as if for a kiss. Right before they cross that line, Alma calls out! She and Max are at the hotel! Alma doesn’t see how Claudio and Isela are standing. She runs up to Claudio with arms wide open, crying “Happy Anniversary, my love!” Turns out the whole day was Alma’s plan! She wanted to surprise Claudio. Isela helped her with the whole thing and Max drove her out so that he could take Isela back with him. Claudio and Isela share a look while hugging Max and Alma. As Isela nd Max walk to the car, he asks Isela to talk to MD about Daniel. Isela says she had, but MD’s in love. Besides, Dan says he’s going to marry her. If that’s his plan, why stand in the way?

After Julian sees his mother trying to wake Fermin up from his drunken stupor, he insists they take him home. After all, his testimony saved Julian from jail. Honoria protests mightily, but there are no beds available in the hospital for people who have elsewhere to go and Julian insists Fermin does have elsewhere to go – with he and his mom.  When Fermin wakes up in Julian’s room, he calls him his son. Julian corrects him, but says he and Honoria will be his family while he’s staying with them. Later, MD thanks Julian for his role in making her parents’ dream of having the shop become a reality. As Leo moves in, Max talks to his mom. He admits he feels something very strong for MD. He doesn’t know if she’s “The One,” but she’s different from any woman he’s ever met.  He assures his mom that he’s never cheated on Maleny; he’s only just started to understand what he’s feeling. His mom is horrified! She thinks maybe he’s confusing his natural desire to help and protect people with romantic feelings for MD. She asks him to stay away from her before these feelings become something more and he ends up hurting poor Maleny.

Maleny’s second, third, and fourth guessing her decision to help Daniel. She can’t concentrate on her tennis game, which might be why she kisses Ari without noticing her brother walking up to them. Dan rudely dismisses Ari (who gets in a few true insults about Daniel having no ambition). Now Dan knows Maleny’s secret – she’s got a thing for the lower class too! Well he’s not about to sacrifice himself on the altar of that pig Ivana all by himself. She’s got to help him out or he’ll tell Max about Ari. She begs him to stop this because he’s stupid obsession is going to ruin them all, but Dan won’t give up his games so that Maleny and Ursula can keep doing whatever they want.

Ivana’s taking the break up hard. She’s drinking and banging away absently on the piano, while Gerry looks on. Susana tells her she can “celebrate” discovering that Dan was a phony tonight, but she’s got to go to work tomorrow (excuse you, Leech Lady! Get a job if you’re so worried!), unless she wants to throw away everything she’s worked for. Gerry holds Ivana back from attacking Susana, then physically removes Susy from the room. Ivana collapses into tears, while Gerry holds her. (NOTE: Thank you to everyone who pointed out that my thinking Gerry was gay was based on my own assumptions about how TNs portray make fashion designers. Everything about him screams that he loves Ivana and it’s so beautiful that I like her more for his loving her.)

Maleny visits MD and Esperanza. She’s come to defend Daniel. She tells them that it’s true, Dan used to be a womanizer and a lazy spendthrift. But he’s different now. When they went bankrupt, he asked an old business friend of their father’s for a job. He really worked hard for the money he used to rent the shop for them. Esperanza’s not buying it. Maleny points out that she’s there, trying to support her brother in this. Their mom won’t, but would Esperanza and her husband have done the same? Maybe Dan has lied a lot, but he’s telling the truth about loving MD, Maleny insists. He’s done everything possible to show his family that he won’t let her go. That’s why she’s there: He asked Maleny, on behalf of the family, to ask Esperanza for MD’s hand in marriage! Esperanza is firm. She will NEVER support Dan marrying MD. Maleny leaves without another word.

Ari is telling Doris about his “friend,” who’s two timing his girlfriend with a rich chick. He’s even proposing to the girlfriend! He would never do that to a woman. Doris says what he means is he wouldn’t take things that far. She thinks Ari’s “friend” sounds like a jerk and that Ari should say something. No way! Ari argues. He could lose his job over that!

MD goes to share her troubles with Julian. He’s the only one she can talk to; she doesn’t know what to do. He tells her he can’t talk to her as a friend because he wouldn’t be able to support her; in his opinion, honesty is the most important thing in a relationship. But if it were him, if the woman he loved did something like that, he’d forgive her and marry her. She asks if he can ever forgive her for not loving him the way he loves her. “You know?!” He asks.  She begs him to forgive her and insists that he’ll find someone else one day. Nope, he says. Just like she’ll always love Dan, he’ll always love her (oh good! Then there’s hope!) He takes her hand; he’ll always be there for her.

Fermin is bummed that Julian doesn’t know how to woo a lady. Honoria defensively says she taught him what she could. But Fermin shouldn’t try to make up for lost time. Julian might have needed him when he was little, but he doesn’t need him now.

Josefa almost jumps on Isela when she gets home, wanting to know how things went with Claudio. Did she sleep with him? No, ISela says. Even better: she left him wanting her. Josefa thinks this is dumb; he’ll just transfer all of that want to his wife! Isela doesn’t think so. They’re a Netflix in bed couple; they’ve lost the fire. They may both be right; Claudio’s thinking of ISela while he watches Alma show off the anniversary dress she bought. He’s thinking of Isela when he says they should have dinner in their room. And he’s thinking of Isela when he kisses Alma and lays her down on the bed…

Dan comes upon MD pondering her situation in the alley. Maleny told him that Esperanza won’t accept their marriage…but that MD hasn’t completely rejected it. He wants her to balance his lie with everything he’s doing now to be with her forever. He cries as he tells her he loves her, she’s the most important thing in his life. He wants to be with her forever, to build a family with her, to wake up beside her every day and tell her he loves her. He kisses her and they stare at each other for an endless minute before she gives in to her wants. They kiss passionately again. Wow...I’ve got to give it to him: the bastard’s good. He’s really good.

Max, meanwhile, sits in bed, miserably remembering MD. Maleny comes into his room. Leo sees her and demands to know why she asked for MD’s hand in marriage for Daniel. Maleny swears she’s trying to help; she wants him to stop using MD too, just like them.

MD tells Clara and Esperanza that she and Daniel are back together…and getting married.  Esperanza thinks marriage is too sacred to survive under lies. Clara doesn’t buy Daniel’s turn about to the truth either. MD says she loves him and a lot of what he told her was true. She asks them to support her in this.

Fermin begins to crave his “medicine.” Julian, sweet innocent that he is, thinks he’s talking about the doctor-prescribed medication. His mom clears that up. Julian is firm that Fermin won’t be getting any of that while he’s in their house. MD stops by to tell him about her and Daniel before he find out elsewhere. He’s crushed, but he just wants her to be happy. He asks if he can give her away at the church.

Ivana doesn’t want to get out of bed. Her fruit breakfast is making her nauseated and she has cramps. Susana thought it was a hangover. Or the fact that a week ago, Dan was proposing to her. (NOTE: Shut up, Susana.)

Esperanza wants to support her daughter, but this isn’t want she and her husband wanted for MD. Besides, people marry into families and Ursula doesn’t want MD in her family. Daniel repeats that his mom’s all about the Benjamins, but he’s not. Clara’s not moved; Dan should’ve defended his love, like Leo did. Dan sadly says that the Bustamantes will reject her too. They’re exactly like his parents.  MD backs him up, saying Max’a parents told her she was a mistake in Dan’s life. Clara’s hurt that MD thinks Leo’s parents will be same with her. Isela confirms this for Clara, who leaves the house in tears. Isela worries Clara will tell Leo’s parents about this and she'll lose her job. Josefa belittles MD and Clara and says if Leo tells his parents, Isela will get fired for telling their business. Isela says is he doesn't, they'll get Clara and MD out of picture, so why does she care.

Claudio and Alma explore the area. They haven’t had a chance to hang out by themselves in a while. Alma doesn’t want to leave because they had such a great night.

Dan wants to marry in a week. MD and Esperanza say that’s nuts; they can’t organize a church wedding that quickly! Well, great because Daniel says they’re not getting married in a church. They’re going to city hall this marriage.

Absolutely awesome as always HellaShelle, thank you

"They’re a Netflix in bed couple; they’ve lost the fire"

Well they fooled me with the anniversary thing at the resort. I'm thinking Isela is liking this way too much and is she good or is she bad.

I hate that the smart girl Clara is headed for more trouble cause of her idiot older sister. Loved Clara telling him to his face she didn't believe him.

Gawd, Max she don't see you as anything other than a tool and you got a crush.

Disgusting as it is when I see Daniel and MD together, love does conquer all in these TN's, so happy for her she, is just gushing.

I love this show, the scene with Ivana playing on the piano gave me the feels

Wow, Ari calling the kettle black

Hellashelle- This recap was SO worth the wait! Just phenomenal.

Tofie- ITA. Ari doesn't even seem to register that he and Dan are doing exactly the same thing. I guess in his mind the difference is that he really loves Doris and isn't just toying with her. Juaever, Ari!

Yes, I hope Julian's love for MD is just as everlasting as her love for Dan. Meaning someone else WILL eventually come along. I'm glad that MD is making this mistake of giving Dan a second chance with her eyes open this time she can't say she wasn't warned or didn't know any of the facts. Her mother, her sister, Leo, and Max have all warned her. She's the one putting her own head in the noose.

How does Dan think he can get away with marrying MD in such a public way, and have it be a fake marriage? I am constantly amazed by this guy, so I'm sure he'll find a way.

Gerry looked super hot holding Ivana, and shoving Susana up the stairs.

Hellashelle- You were so spot on about both Isela and Josefa being right about the results of Isela's subtle flirtations with Claudio. Poor Alma! She doesn't deserve this. You know how many men her age, younger, and older would want to be with a beautiful woman like her? What's Claudio's problem? How have they been married so long when she has such a generous free spirit, and he has a giant stick up his butt?

Claudio is responding to the attentions of a young beautiful adoring groupie, Isela is playing him perfectly. He is so easy, dickhead.

Gracias, Hellashelle. It's episode 18.

Class consciousness is a fact of life even in the US (we're in big denial about it here). Max and Leonardo are somewhat above this attitude, but not their parents and certainly not the Santibanez crew. I wonder whether the incest vibe we get from them is all about them isolating themselves away from most of the world.

Julian will find out the ugly truth eventually and he will not be happy about it. Isela is starting to sound like her ho of a mother and Maria Dolores is in a very bad place right now unless her mother can put the full kibosh on the lack of a church wedding. However, knowing Danny-boy as we do he'll find someone to impersonate a priest.

Hellashelle--Thank you for coming through for us. I had forgotten some of the details. I, too, thought Isela was pushing her luck trying all kinds of ways to keep them at the historic inn-restaurant. AND she WAS--to a certain extent. Now she's in Alma's good graces and in Claudio's mind.

Danny-boy getting someone to impersonate a priest is shades of La Verdad Oculta--a very good tn. It didn't work there for very long, I wonder if it will here and for how long. Max had better get right on it, no? Something else to endear her to Max--NOT.

Hi guys! Thanks for the fix note, Urban. I changed the eppy number. Thanks Tofie and Vivi - I too hope that Clara doesn't get hit my the Dan/MD splatter on this one. But she and Leo are smart and devoted, so hopefully they'll just be like "whatevs." The MD/Max hook would prob affect them more, right?

Is Dan really just planning to "marry" MD via fake court person, bed her and then dance happily away to re-seduce Ivana into a "real" marriage? I'd believe it if he was trying to convince MD to run away with him and get married Vegas-style, but with all of her friends and family around? Doesn't he think Leo and Max will tell Ivana? I"m really not clear on his end game here at all.

So glad Ivana's not pregnant.

Thanks Anita - it's been a messed up crazy week. Family stuff, work load just about tripled, had to go in on my day off. Crazy. Anyway, thanks for reading my super late, sleep deprived recap.

Isela really wants to play the innocent later huh. "It all happened so gradually. I never set out to have an affair with a married man, honest!"

Anita- Even in La Verdad Oculta, the bride and her sister were the only people from her side there and it was done pretty hush hush. This seems like MD's family and everyone in her hood , plus some of the folks in Dan's circle will know about it and be there. How Dan thinks he can get away with this is a head scratcher.

Hellashelle--You got me on the civil wedding thing. Maybe he IS intending to take her away, but Espie and Clara would want to be present and Clara would be the first to tell Leo. Certainly Max, Leo, and his parents know Ivana and what Danny-boy was up to.

In La Verdad Oculta--the bride didn't have a rival. I wish I could remember why the groom was tricking her. Guess I'll have to go back and read the recaps!

This telenovela has more twists and turns than a lasso, so it's ripe for speculation. Either Dan hasn't figured out a long-range plan, or the fact that he's "broken" up with Ivana allows him to "marry" MD. Then when the time comes to suck up to Ivana again, he can pin something on MD in order to get a quickie "divorce" and Ivana might believe him. Oh, I don't know. I'm just going to watch and enjoy the ride.

Vivi--Thanks for the refresher. I like your new avatar, by the way. Where were you? You look so happy!

Anita- In a friend's backyard near Silver Spring.

Thank you, hellashelle! Thank you for taking the time to write this on little sleep.

Well, here we are almost a month into YNCELH and there has yet to be a dull moment.

I'm kind of happy Maria Dolores has decided to give Daniel another chance, this way, when she hits the ground hard (again) she'll know, for sure, the only liar is Daniel. She's definitely one of those people that until she herself proves herself wrong, she'll never learn.

I am super mad that she did try to ruin her sister's relationship because hers has backfired horribly for a while. It's not right.

If the fake priest thing is afoot, I doubt it will last long, YNCELH has already shown that keeping secrets until the end isn't interesting but rather the consequences of those secrets being discovered.

Thank you for the recap Hellashelle!

I agree with you on Daniel, he IS good. That scene of him gettint María Dolores back is so great for me because it reminds me in other telenovela where the galán, and not the villain, is the one asking forgiveness with all his heart (sometimes for worse things than whar MD knows he has done) and we are supposed to sigh in happiness when they reconcile. But come on, a true galán wouldn't have to ask forgiveness for such terrible behavior (hear that Lo Imperdonable?).

Jarocha

Thanks hellashelle, This is a very excellent and accurately informative recap. Your work is impressive.

I've been watching this TN but initially had a problem getting into it because of the horrible quality of the CCs when this began. I adore Azela Robinson as one of my favorite bad girls. I fell in love with her during Contra Viento y Marea many years ago. She was stunning. I really like the characters in this, especially María Dolores, Daniel, Maleny, Alma, and Claudio.

I'm guilty of lurking because for awhile now I've been reluctant to commit. I complained to the Community Affairs representative for Univision here in Houston about the early CCs. I thought I'd share her response to me which I received this afternoon:

Dear Dr. Hill,

I wanted to give you an update on this issue. The episodes where you mentioned were problems with closed captioning were being edited up until the last minute, which didn’t give us much time to get captioning done before hand. You should be seeing improvement in closed captioning.

Respectfully,

Grace Olivares

And indeed, they have been much improved.

Just a comment about last night's show, I loved this:

"Did she sleep with him? No, Isela says. Even better: she left him wanting her."

I thought her actual words were almost sidebar worthy:

"Even better, I showed him the menu and left him hungry."

Yikes!

Carlos

So glad you are watching Carlos! While I was watching it here I thought that if you ever watched it you'd like Maleny, I love your soft spot for the bad girls. Azela is great here.

I hope the CC's get better. It's interesting that they were being edited at last minute because it's been a while since this was over in Mexico and it seems like they had the novela waiting to air in Univision for a while.

I wonder if the dialogue here could be different sounding from other telenovelas for English speakers, while it was on here it was praised for the way the characters conversed since it was much more closely resembling of real life than other telenovelas. The reason being that the producer decided to shot the scenes entirely by memory, instead of using an "apuntador", the device that goes in the ear of the actor where he hears his lines while shooting the scene. The apuntador is used in almost every telenovela to sped up the shooting process so they can meet the pace required to finish the shooting for a show that airs five days a week, with no reruns, but it slows the tempo of conversations sometimes depending on the actor.

Jarocha

Hi Jarocha. I'm glad that I stuck with this. As I mentioned, my main reason for watching was Azela Robinson. She's never disappointed and this is no exception though I must admit, Josefa is not exactly warm and cuddly. I have to admit that I'm really enjoying Maleny, especially her odd chemistry with her brother, Daniel. She is so deviously attractive and he is such a skunk. I'm so glad that Univision has seemed to have solved the CC problem. I so vividly remember Claudio and his attraction to youngish women as Augusto in AdP. As I recall, he was not uniformly loved here at Caray Caray. The CCs are quite good at present, I hope this holds up. I also think that Alma is quite elegant and beautiful but her future doesn't look very bright right now.

Carlos

I like Alma too, you are right about her elegance, too bad her husband doesn't seem to be appreciating it much right now. I find Maleny to be a very interesting character, her relationship with Daniel is fun to watch, although he can be too awful too sometimes. Maybe the difference about Azela her is that she has muted her sensuality for the role, I know she is not the type of beauty you see in the sexy villains but I've always agreed with you about that part of her and how she usually adds it to her characters.

Jarocha

Thank you Hellashele. This was a wonderful read.

I was so pissed at MD falling for Dan's curveballs but so proud at Clara. She and Doris are the only good smart girls around. Ivana should be celebrating instead of sobbing like someone has just died. At least she got rid of the slimeball but I am sure that not even this will not last long.

I loved that Dan spotted Ari and Maly together, that way atleast Doris and Max will both be relieved of cockroaches if he decides to spill.

I believe that Claudio does love Alma in his own way but marriage is not all shine and gold. Sometimes it makes life twice as more tedious and complicated than usual but most of the time people themselves make it complicated. It is a very realistic approach of marriage in our society.

Thanks Hellashelle, I'm very late to the party but I was out of town and just watched this this morning.

I really dislike the actor playing Claudio. I think he has no emotion and reads his lines.

How do we know that Ivana isn't pregnant? I was thinking she could be. And wouldn't that throw a curveball to the Dan/MD marriage.

And I dont really know how to feel about Fermin . I want him to croak but that would cause more problems eitherway for the vecinos. One day the truth will have to come out though,. Hon should just tell the truth already. I mean Vermin is just a useless bottom feeder y Punto.

I enjoyed the recap hellashelle, thank you much.
This part of the story about these two golddigging twins and the way they twist the people around them is amazing. It makes you wonder if maybe mommie dearest schooled them in the way of scaming people out of their money. I wonder if that marriage is real, cause I remember a conversation between dannyboy and the lawyer about a fake ceremony with MD, and a real one with Ivana. And he kind of laughed about being able to pull it off. Does anybody else remember any thing like that? I think it was in an episode this week.
I think gerry does love Ivana, I don't think she knows it tho, nor is she aware of the kind of love he has for her. Something I notice about
TV shows they often portray men in fashion as being gay, thats not always the case, just because a man likes designing womens clothing or anything else in the fashion industry doesn't make him gay. But I don't think hes gay either. But that thought did cross my mind. It would be great if he and Ivana got together.
Hon and fermy should tell julian the truth before the mouthy one does ( josefa the heffa).

Thank you Hellashelle.
Your recap was great. I don't have time to comment, but wanted to say thank you.

It would be awesome if the recappers could put up a discussion page while they work on the recap.

Kat, I used to do that on my QPD recaps but I didnt really find them worth the effort. At first it was convinient but later the discussion post eats up more comments from the recap post. I might do that though because the post may garner more attention.

And I have started to dislike Isela. If we will have to choose between Alma and Isela I will always pick Alma out of the two. In my opinion Claudio may have not killed Isela's sister by his hand but by his bad professional choices as an ex lawyer. It happens a lot in real life when one small unintentional bad choice can affect the others.

Countx- The discussion post and recap post don't have to be separate posts. You put the header up an then come back and update it with the recap.

My guess about Josefa's daughter was that Bustamonte wasn't at fault at all for why she died. Josefa is a grieving mother who lost her daughter and wants to lash out at someone to blame for her death. I'm guessing that it will turn out to be the daughter's fault for her own death.

Yes, what Vivi said. The discussion page can be turned into the recap page and that way all the comments will be there when the recap is completed and added to it.
